It has been a lifesaver for me. Excellent for pain relief and a great place to meditate. I am 94 years young, have disastrous spinal injuries and had fractured pelvis three years ago. The tub is my pain medication... I take no other.

I have had a very good experience with American Standard. I enjoyed my first meeting with their rep. I also called him about a problem with the shower. I was scheduled for a hip surgery and I was planning on the tall toilet really badly. Three days before they came, I had a heart attack. I was in the hospital when they came but my friend was here and let them in. Everything was great and I was so happy that it was ready to go when I came home from the hospital. Otherwise, I would have had to go to a rehab somewhere.
When I had a little problem with the shower getting stuck, somebody came out and fixed it. The guy came out twice and rigged up something that would keep it from getting caught underneath there. Other than that, it has been wonderful. He told me what I needed to know. We also noticed a leak in the basement. I can't go down there so he is keeping an eye on it. Evidently, he fixed it and I'm hoping it's still the same. I use the shower and I appreciate being able to sit down safely. I haven’t used the bathtub a lot but hopefully, I will do so. It would surely be soothing for my hip. I also requested bars near the toilet. Although they only had one size, it all worked out. We figured out how to angle it, and it has been perfect. I’m really pleased and I’m grateful that I have it. I really needed everything that they installed.

I had a stand-up shower in my private bathroom but I had a lot of issues with breathing so I couldn’t handle it. I get dizzy before I can get through the shower. And the last time I took a bath in my garden tub, I had a really hard time getting in and out of it. I slipped a couple of times hanging on to the side of it so I called American Standard Walk-In Tubs and they came out. The sales rep was really nice. He helped me secure financing at a monthly payment I could afford to make. Their manager, on the other hand, got me a price which was extremely high. In fact, I’ll probably be paying for that tub for the rest of my life. But at least, I can step into it, sit down, and take a nice hot bath, and I don’t have to worry about falling. And everything they advertised about it works perfectly. And they guarantee it for life.
However, about two weeks after I had it, I had a slight water leak from underneath and on the floor. I called them, and they scheduled a crew to come out, and they fixed the water leak. The installers were on time. They were here when they said they would be and they made sure I understood how to use everything before they left. I use the walk-in tub for relaxing my muscles. When my legs were bothering me late at night, I just go in the bubbling thing and let it relax and massage me. So, I get my money’s worth out of it and I definitely feel safer. I get into the dry tub, I sit down, I close the door and lock it, and then I turn on the water and regulate it, and it’s completely drained before I get out of it. I just wish they would figure out how to make the price less.

I like that American Standard Walk-In Tubs has a lifetime warranty so I decided to purchase it. Their sales rep was very pleasant and professional and we had a really good installation experience initially. They did a great job with putting the tub in but there were some problems with the grout separating so they came back and took care of it. But, it just kept happening and we were frustrated about that.
Several things went wrong within the first six months. The motherboard and the electronic thing where you push the buttons went out. But, they always sent someone out and took care of the problems. Furthermore, I bought the stopper for the water that keeps breaking and the coating is already peeling off of it. So, we have been disappointed with how the thing was built and how it worked but with the lifetime warranty, we’re covered with that. On the other hand, we like the automatic drain. We really like how fast it drains. So, in general, we’re happy.

We are very thankful for your professional, informative, helpful, clean, and friendly installers. The tub itself is great as well. The tub, however, wasn’t as deep as we expected, but still enjoyable and effective. The biggest challenge we have (10 days later) is the very strong fumes from the caulking used. It actually causes my husband to be very dizzy and irritates my sinuses, throat and eyes. We are airing out as much as possible. We hope and trust that these toxic fumes will subside/be eliminated very soon.

I was browsing American Standard's website and went through the ratings. We also have some of their porcelain toilet and tubs. I liked their quality and the duration of time in which the install would occur. The sales rep was very informative. He was with us for about an hour walking us through everything. It was pretty quick. The installation of the tub was wonderful. They explained everything and left the house looking exactly the way it was, just with a new tub installed. It's for my mom, now that she suffered a stroke. It's been a tremendous peace of mind. The quality of work was really good. We haven't had any issues since we've installed it. It was a very good experience, and we've been really happy with everything. American Standard is definitely worth what you spend for it.

I'm in my late 80’s and my husband is 90 so we had to replace our toilets to a bigger one. And, I needed a walk-in tub because my husband cannot climb into our tub and American Standard was the one that came. I liked the fact that they were prompt, they got everything written up and they came when they said they would. And then, they said they had to come in the next week to finish up something and they were here right on time. Their reps were very nice, very professional and did exactly what they said they were going to do. And so, we signed with them. On the other hand, their installers were terrific. I love our tub. However, I only got to use the tub once so far because we have no door on our bathroom and it gets cold in there. I just got to get a contractor in here and get a door on that bathroom that has 95 inches tall opening, but that’s going to have to wait. So now, I'm stuck with a shower.

I was looking for all the options I could ask for and anything and everything that I did ask for, it came in the American Standard tub. Their sales rep was very professional, kind and he was able to answer all my questions. The installation went really well. At that time when they were going to bring the tub in, I was currently building my new home. So, I talked to their rep and he gave me all the numbers I needed and where to place the water, etc. When their installers were there, the install took 20 minutes because I had everything ready for them and it was just a matter of them hooking it up, setting the temperature and plugging it in. When I use the tub, I get very relaxed and sometimes I don’t even want to get out unless I have to. It's been very helpful. I have recommended it to various people that I know.

I’m 91 and my back is really bad. I thought it would be nice to walk in the tub and close the door. It sounded really good so I looked into it and asked American Standard to come give me an estimate. All of the sales reps came here on time and were very nice about it. The installer was here on time too. He worked late and did a good job. Everything they did in putting it in was perfect. But for some reason, I pictured that the machinery would be away from where I would be sitting. I thought it was behind and you could sit in front of it. It got me to think that if the water didn’t go out, I would be stuck in there. I can’t climb over it because I have a horrible back. That's just scary and I got claustrophobic about it. I have never even been in it and I’m never going to use it. It’s just sitting there, shiny and brand new. It's a shame but it's not their fault because I feel that way.

We contacted American Standard and the gentleman who came out and talked to us was a good salesman. We liked the explanation he gave us about the tub and how it worked. He also talked about the price, and I consider myself a good salesperson but he was exceptional. And we had no problem with the installation except the shower head wouldn't work. It was throwing water all over the place. We contacted American Standard and they sent people out who repaired it.
Two people were to come out. The first one told me what was wrong with it and why was it doing it. And the other has to come back because they were saying something about the washer in the shower head was the problem. But then, we never heard back from them. And when I called American Standard again, a different group, came and they were great, too at what they do. They told us that what the first person told us was wrong. They checked and they said there was nothing wrong with the washer. One of them said that the head was put in the thicker wall. And so, before the water gets into the tub on the part that's right below where the shower head was, it was throwing out, running all over the floor and wetting up the place.
They moved the shower head to the wall to the left and closer right at the edge. And now, the water is shooting down into the tub itself and not have to pass part of the tub to get into the tub. Everything was completed in a timely manner. But again, sitting in the tub and looking to the wall in front of you there, and a piece on the back of the tub is broken and needs to be repaired. But other than that, my wife likes the tub the best. She stays in it with the jets running. I would definitely recommend American Standard.

I was familiar with American Standard from my engineering business. I knew what I wanted before I went to them so their sales rep didn't have to sell me. I had to cut him shorter as I could then I signed up and got the walk-in tub. Their installation team were great. They came and did an amazing job. We even had a meal and everything was cool. The wife uses the tub quite often. She is handicapped and she can't step up to get into a regular tub. So, stepping in there is good. I was also very impressed with the door at how well that works. I was in engineering for 45 years and that’s why I stayed with American Standard when I was going to get a walk-in tub. I'd recommend them.
We've never had any other trouble with the tub except that stupid place where you rest your head would never stay secured. It's like a boyfriend after getting married. The kisses were different and the way that it sucked the wall was entirely different after the first week. Buying those things from China was a loss. So, I just saw the sucker on the floor and found a water-soluble cushion I got in the house that I could use.
The tub is also somewhat not everything I thought it would be but I'm always expecting more. When I add the smelly stuff in the water, it smells like too much flowers. Plus, the only time I smell it is when I put it in there. After that, I don’t ever smell it and it ain’t worth the time that it takes to do it. I'd rather have another cup of coffee then. I also had some problem with one of the jets where the water wasn't coming out. I went through a couple of months trying to get it done and them telling me over the phone how to do it. Then I told them to just come out here and do it. So, they sent two guys out here after a while. When the first guy got in there, he couldn’t do it either. Finally, when the other one got in there, he was a little more persistent and got it to do okay. But we had to go through several tests, put water back to the tub, and back and forth several times, until he fixed it.

I liked my American Standard walk-in tub as I had another walk-in tub before. However, they signed all my step on the way in when they were bringing up the tub. They bumped the wood of my beautiful step quite a bit. I was not expecting to have the sign in the wood and they would stay unless they find somebody that can put it in order otherwise, I will live this way. I also had the leak in the living room, which I don’t think has to happen. I like the idea that they had to put down the tub in one way and the sink in the other but I didn’t like where the water and the yellow stuff passes. I could not reach its handle as I am short. So, I took the extension for the brush but I travel to arrive. They have the turning chair around too, but I could not move it.
So, they had to work and spend for adjusting what has been done. But the issue is not only the money, it's having people by the house too. I also have to spend for the takeoff here and clean everything. It's more job for me. One, they tied up too much and they broke. And the other piece just broke. I cannot understand what they did, but it's also because there was very little room. I talked to customer service and they sent a man and he fixed the problem. I like him although he squeezed the tube too much. They did the repair partially as the leak was there and they had to wait so that it dries off. I use the toilet on one side and I use the bathroom in the other. And because it is on top of the living room, I am afraid that if the tubing side is not so strong, the yellow stuff would come out again.
I always recommend American Standard to a friend. I cannot understand why they can make a difference with my back. I don’t do a pedicure very often as I have to be careful with the vein because one time when I went for a pedicure, the water that they used was a bit too hot. I had thrombophlebitis and I almost died. So, I do it ahead not in the walk-in tub. Overall, their customer service could have a better service but it depends on the day. Sometimes people get out with the wrong foot and that's the day. Nonetheless, I am satisfied with American Standard but I could be more satisfied if things have not gone so wrong.

When I was looking up walk-in tubs on the internet, I recognized American Standard's name, so I figured it was a safe bet to go with them. The sales agent who came to our home talks fast. And perhaps I didn't understand a lot of what he was talking about, or I didn't ask a lot of questions. So, I let him talk and it sounded good and I was in need of a tub and I went with it. The installation team was fine. It seemed to take forever to get the installation done but they did a good job. They had to widen the bathroom door and they put a new door on. But it bothered me that it doesn't fit the framing that they did. The door frame is bigger than the door, but there was nothing that could be done about it. They were in such a rush to get everything done, and it wasn't as complete an operation as I would've expected.
The walk-in tub is good except that they told me that a 50-gallon tank would be fine to fill it up to where it says in the book where you're supposed to line, more or less, to fill it to use the hydro but it doesn't. I like hot water. I don't like tepid water for a bath. So, I have to fill it so far then wait for a while that the heater catches up and then, start again to get that up to where it's supposed to be or else, I just go with the lukewarm water.
Because of the water situation, I don't use the tub as often as I used to. And one thing that I was disappointed in is in the book which they left with me, there is a massage showerhead type thing and my tub doesn't have it. It just has an old bell-shaped one where water is coming out. And when I called about it, the guy said the bell-shaped is the one that comes with my model tub. I like to massage my shoulders. And with my tub, I can't really get down in the water unless I'm sitting on the floor in front of the seat to get the water up around the hydro things to be going through my shoulders. And it's very uncomfortable when you have artificial knees.

My husband could no longer get in and out of the tub. And so, I was looking for a different option and I consulted with several companies that do walk-in tubs. And American Standard, by far, was the best. They sent a sales representative who was very knowledgeable because he, himself, had an American Standard tub. And he was a retired contractor but he and his wife had bought a tub for some health reasons. It was recommended to him by his doctor and they were very happy with it. He was wonderful. American Standard also had a really good promotion at that time, so, financially, it was good.
The people who came and put the tub in were amazing. They didn't have to destroy my bathroom, too. They just had to take a door off and fit the tub in. A couple of the other companies were going to take out walls and demo my bathroom and it would've been very expensive. And with the quality of the tub, I felt it was the best option. The tub was American made, too.
I had to get the tub when my husband was very ill and unfortunately, he didn't get to use it very long before he passed away. I myself don't care for it because I like a garden tub that I can just lie down in and soak. But for someone who is incapacitated or has a hard time getting in and out of the tub, it's amazing. And still, I use it every day and I'm fine with it. I can get in and out really fast.

My husband was having some health issues. He was unable to stand for long periods of time so we felt that the walk-in bathtub would be better for him for bathing. The rep from American Standard Walk-In Tubs came in, explained everything to us and did the measurements for the bathtub in our bathroom. He set up all the arrangements, financing, and everything. We were pleased and we decided to purchase. My husband can manage his bath now much better than before. The installation team was great. However, they took the door off the frame, all the molding. Some of the moldings weren’t attached properly so I had to call and have someone else to come out and make sure the molding that they took off was correct. I would recommend American Standard Walk-in Baths.

I called three companies and they came and did their spiel. American Standard offered a steel frame and not fiberglass, so I chose them. They also offered a slight discount for being a veteran. It was a good sales presentation. And the only problem is our bathroom is small and I'm a six foot plus guy. We got the standard size tub and for me to get my shoulders submerge is really not that good because then I have to fully cramp down. I add about six pounds of Epsom salt to it and I soak hand towels and put them on my shoulders. And that works out well.
When American Standard did the installation, the water main broke. But they fixed it and only took about three hours. They also had some problems electrically. They did a separate circuit breaker outside that I used for my hot tub. And then, they run stuff off over the roof then down to the ceiling to get to the bathroom, which is right in the center of the house. They had to replace different things for the electrical three times. After they fixed it the third time, this horrible high-pitch whine kept coming out. So then, they built the door in the hall and they insulated all around there so the sound wouldn't get through. But overall, American Standard is top of the line and they have very good quality and service. The longest I had to wait was three days for someone to come and fix any problems I had. They had to fine-tune it. It took about a month and a half until everything was perfect.

We received a coupon for American Standard Walk-in Tubs, and we thought that it was interesting, so we tried it out. Their sales representative promised us heaven on earth, but it turned out to be a nightmare. First of all, we have an older house with wooden support system, and the tub is on the second floor. So, if we filled the tub with water, it would be very heavy. So, I wasn’t sure if the construction of the house could hold the weight. Plus, they didn’t measure properly, so we had to knock out a part of one wall.
They also had to get us another door because the whole door had to be taken out. We had an old-fashioned wooden door which was like an antique, and then they put in a plastic door because it was wider. But it was just strapped on, and it wasn’t nice. They also had to cut out the carpet that was outside the bathroom door. I was thinking that they would say that they’ll give us a discount for the inconvenience, but they didn’t. We were very unhappy with the whole procedure. The product itself is okay. But the installation seemed like it was done by brand new people, and it honestly didn’t appear like they were familiar with what they were supposed to do. Plus, they didn’t apologize or compensate for not measuring correctly. Other than that, they were nice, and they had good manners.
$18,000 is a lot of money to have to go through all that, and then sit by and have no one explain or apologize for anything. We have also had very little communication, as I just watched the people walk in and out of the house. I wouldn’t recommend American Standard to anybody, unless they actually know the person that was going to put it in, and that they were actually there when they measure to make sure that they measure everything.

I miss our old tub, being able to stretch out in it, and soak my shoulders. But the convenience of getting in and out of this walk-in tub that we got from American Standard is tremendous. That part was my problem and my husband’s, and I would rather not be able to enjoy the tub so much as to break a hip. So this is better for us. We watch the level of the water that we put in it because if we put too much, it didn't drain. Other than that, we have been pleased with our experience. The person who came and had us sign the contract was very informative and courteous. Then, those who came to install it were very efficient. I would recommend American Standard..

We did a little bit of comparative shopping. American Standard offered a lifetime warranty, and we also liked some of the features. They had jets and also some heating units that some of the others didn’t offer. The installation went smoothly. They came out, took the old tub out, and put the new tub in. They had to adjust the bathroom door and put in a wider door. That all went well. We also got a new commode with the tub.
I've got a degenerative disease in my back and neck and several other health issues. The American Standard tub would benefit as far as the soaks in the tub. It's easier to take a bath or shower. However, we had to call them back a couple of times to make some adjustments. When someone is taking a shower in that tub, if anyone uses any water from any other source in the house, all of the cold water leaves the shower. The person in the shower gets hot because the water is hot. However, they’ve never been able to fix that one issue. We still have a problem, and they never could explain why it did that. I just wish that it could be made right like it was promised.
We also had a problem with the handheld shower part leaking. They caulked that piece up on the base of the tub where the pipe comes out so that it wouldn’t leak water anymore. That fixed it, but the caulking is starting to shrink. I'm going to have to call them back out before too much longer to fix it again. They never got the caulking right around the tub. There are dips in the caulking and water stands in there. It's hard to clean that. Nevertheless, I like the tub. I wish it was a little bit bigger, but I still enjoy it.

I went to a home show and I saw the American Standard tub. I was impressed with it. I looked for another type of tubs and American Standard is a reputable company that’s been around for a long time. I felt comfortable buying the tub from them. I have a relatively small bathroom which means that I have to have something compatible with the size of the bathroom. I talked to the person who was demonstrating the American Standard bathtub and thought that it would probably be a good fit. It's got the seat in it and it’s not real long, but everything that I need is there.
The sales rep came over and went through all the features of the bathtub. He took a measurement in my home. He was very personable, informative, and accommodating. The installation team was good and efficient, and they got the job done. The tub is absolutely wonderful. I don’t have to fill it way up to the top. I can sit there with the shower on and have a shower, or I can fill the tub up and have a bathtub. Plus I am bit small enough, so I can sit down in the corner of the tub. It helps a lot with the stiffness in my neck. It’s really nice. I enjoy bathing long. My mother is 89 years and the tub also offers a safety feature for someone who as incapacitated to be able to use it.

American Standard's ad claims they are the best. However, I don’t like the sales rep because when we had some trouble with the tub, he didn’t answer my call. I did not appreciate that. At first, I knew that the one who installed the tub will be the one to come and speak to us if there is a problem with the tub. But then, American Standard subcontracted it to somebody here from our place. I do not like that American Standard claims this and that, and they will do this and that, and then they don’t do it. A representative from American Standard Walk-In Tubs came to my house one day. I like the lifetime guarantee and that everything was stainless steel in the plumbing. My husband was alive at that time, and he had Parkinson’s and was not able to get in the shower that I had. It was so wonderful to have the tub for him. I had home care for him and even the girl who came to give him his bath was thrilled to have it and it was so nice for him to be able to step in so easily and sit there. I love the tub and I know that my husband did as well. I sit myself down in the tub part with the air going. The upper spring, it splatters too much, but I do so much better when I just use the air and sit down in the water. I have a shoulder that the water massages so well and keeps it from being so arthritic. And I have leukemia and so I sometimes do 40 minutes in the tub until I’m almost shriveling.
The tub was installed twice. The first time, two dirty scabby guys came. When it was finished, my children who came to see it would not accept it. It wasn’t even level, and the installers made a lot of shortcuts in the installation. It was terrible and they stained my carpet and several things. We complained and it was reinstalled and then it’s working well. Last week when I was bathing, the finishes in the handle were coming off. I’ll contact my repair person and I’m sure they’ll come take care of that.

Also, we've got the tube that comes up from the shower wrapped in Stik'n Seal because water goes down in that and we had spots on the basement ceiling. With the tub, I’m getting around a little bit better. I asked their rep about bathing in the tub and he said it was fine but not to use the bubble bath. And I didn’t and I just used the body wash. It bubbled and it looked like I was sitting in a pot of grits. But now I’ve figured out to soak then bathe as the water drains out. Overall, others should check out American Standard.

I’m a shower man but my wife really wanted a walk-in tub. The American Standard rep had an equipment with him and he showed us everything about the product like how the doors worked and how it sealed up when you put water in it. He explained the whole ”take the old tub out, put the new one in” and how long it’d take. I liked his presentation and we had no problem with the installation. Everything has been fine.

We weren’t pleased with the two guys who put in our American Standard tub. They were sloppy. They put out caulking around and it was not glued in good. It wasn’t secure against one side of the front of the wall. They didn’t clean the one spot down the basement either. We weren't satisfied and we had to have somebody to come and redo it. He did a good job and he took all caulking all the way around it. The bathtub is fine though and we use it all the time. I was disabled and I liked the easy access to get in and out.

We're getting older and our health situation is a little iffy. American Standard Walk-In Tubs' guarantee was good forever and they would come fix if something goes wrong. Their installers were really awesome. Installation was done in just one day. Our house was very old and they ran into some problem but still got it all done. They even put wood where the wood was not so good on the floor. They're very efficient and they clean up everything. They explained how everything works, so when they left we're all comfortable with it. Also, the tub is sealed and I don't have to worry that my husband is going to fall.

My wife is handicapped and it looked like American Standard would work for us. I use the tub more than my wife and it is okay but the tub was too expensive. If I headed to do it over, I would just have one very similar to that from Lowe's or Home Depot. My brother did that and it only cost him about $2,500 to buy the tub and get it installed, but it cost me about $15,000.
The salesman was knowledgeable and he helped me out with the details of the product. The installation team put the tub in okay but I had a problem when they did the caulking around the tub. The installation started out with three guys. The third guy was really good but he was only here for one day. The other two guys were here for two days and the guy who did the caulking didn't know what he was doing and made a real mess. I have a professional carpenter that has done other stuff for us and I paid him to come and clean up the mess. I let American Standard know the issue I had and I got a phone call asking me about what went on. I told them exactly and they were going to take care of it but I never heard anymore about it.

We love our tub. The problem is that in the wintertime the tub takes two cycles of hot water from the heater to fill the tub. The salesman, John **, my wife and I checked the capacity of the heater (40 gallons) before sale and it was deemed sufficient. I am a 78 year old senior on fixed income with diabetic neuropathy who has spent sixteen thousand plus on an appliance that is difficult to use. Rest assured that I will tell my friends and not recommend your product because a salesperson needed a commission or to meet his quota. In effect you have sacrificed a few sales so that one salesman could meet his quota.

I decided to get a walk-in tub when I got older and since I have some problems with my knees, I would need to soak my knees in. I had been looking at American Standard for a couple of years. I had gone to a company over in San Rafael to look but backed off. Then, we made an appointment with the in-home sales rep from American Standard and a nice gentleman came to make a presentation for me and my wife. We stay in a Victorian and we had a concern if the tub would fit in when getting it up the stairs or when it enters the house. The guy took the measurements and talked about the way I wanted it to go. We then decided that it could be done.
I had someone come in and prepare the room for them to do the demolition. The installation team came and handled their business for two days. Everything went fine after. However, since I’m a big guy who is 6’5 and weighs about 350, I have an issue where the water doesn’t come as high as I thought I would. Getting in and out of the tub is fine, but if my wife gets in it, it comes up much higher on her than it does to me. I would have preferred to have gotten a tub that was higher where the water would come rather than around my waist. American Stand should also take into consideration the size of the individual getting in. Also, they were supposed to bring a toilet as part of the sales. I made several calls to the home office to find out why the toilet wasn’t delivered, and they eventually brought it.

I checked out three companies and American Standard had a better designed tub and came out the best. The sales rep was really nice. He was also very polite and kind to my mother. He talked to her and I felt very comfortable about getting the tub. The installation team was also very professional. The guy took his time and installed the tub. He broke up the old tub and made sure that we were not being inconvenienced. They closed the door so we wouldn't hear all the cracking and breaking. American Standard is a great tub and my mom loves it. She uses it three to four times a week. The only thing she complains about is that the smaller holes in the tub blow cold air. They tried to fix it several times but it didn't work out. I'm going to have them keep trying and see if they can fix it.

I’ve had a knee replacement, and my only shower was upstairs. So, I had American Standard put in a shower for me, but I can’t use it because the back shelf that they added to extend it to the wall is not leveled. So, when I turn on the shower, all the water goes down and comes around the tub and goes on the floor. So, I haven’t been able to use the shower at all.
The first time I called them and told them about the problem, they said that they’d take care of it. Two and a half weeks went by and I realized that they hadn’t called, so I called them back, and all they said to me was that they’re not going to do anything about it. It was really crude of them to say that they’re not going to help me at all when they first said that they will send somebody. They didn’t pay attention to the levelling when they installed it. The first guy that put the tile in said that it was not leveled, and he didn’t know what to do about it because he didn’t put it in. So, he went ahead and tiled.
I’ve had two or three different companies come in and tell me that there’s something wrong with it, and that the shelf is not levelled. So, the water hits it and runs down the corner and then down the back of the tub and on the floor. Now, I can’t take a shower and wash my hair because I can’t go upstairs. So, I’d have to go to a beauty shop and get my hair done.
When I was looking around for a shower, I found one at American Standard. I then called the number, and the salesman came and I decided on this shower rather than going to Home Depot. The salesman was nice and obliging, and he helped me a great deal. American Standard even called me every week during the first two weeks to see how I liked the product, and I kept telling them that I couldn’t use the shower yet, so I couldn’t tell them. Then when I found out what the problem was and I called the salesman about the it, he didn’t want to talk to me. I had more than three people come in to work on it, and the first three said that the back ledge has to come out. So, I had to put the walling twice. But I told them that there was no reason for that, and that they just had to take the ledge out and put one that fits in, and is leveled.
I also had much lower bids from other companies, but I decided to take this one because it sounded right and clear. But I found out later that I paid several thousand dollars more than the thing sells to other people for. So, they play about that, too. I’m really disgusted with American Standard Walk-in Baths, and would never recommend their products.

American Standard has a good, solid reputation so we bought a walk-in tub from them. Their sales rep was excellent. She was so professional and knowledgeable. She didn’t push us. She wasn’t smart alecky. She was too good. Fact is, I don’t know if we ever bought anything over TV like that before and we’re 72 years old. It’s not customary for us to buy anything we saw on TV. The installation guys were courteous and professional as well. There was no drawback at all. We didn’t feel any problem with having them in our house. The only thing was the price was higher than I thought it would be.
My wife and I both are beginning to have some mobility problems. In my particular case, if I’m maybe feeling kind of bad and I feel like I need a little recharge, I don’t have any problem with just going and getting in the tub. Whereas with the old tub, it was hard to get in and hard to get out. And it’s nice not have to use that one anymore. I would definitely tell my friends that they ought to look into this product before they look any further.

My parents are old, and they come here often and stay with me for a few months, so the tub is for their convenience. They can sit down and take a bath on it. I'm getting old now as well and it's good to have a walk-in tub so I can sit down and take a bath. In 2015, I had a walk-in tub installed by American Standard and spent $14,000. However, I had a very bad experience. I don't like the walk-in tub at all. It's damaged and though there's a lifetime warranty, nothing is good. The water is coming out from the top of the edges and I don't like how they fixed it. The slope is not right and on the edges, they put crack to join the wall and the tub. The level is not in the proper way so whenever I take a shower, the water goes over there and comes out from the tub.
I've told American Standard to properly fix it since four people use it every day, taking a shower and sometimes using the bath too. It's been only two years and I'm not happy with it. And now, I can't replace the tub again since the tub is expensive to replace. The tub is good for older people and it is helpful if they properly install it. I love the tub and I'd tell my friends to make sure they get the right installment people who do the labor work properly.

As you get older, it’s harder to get in and out of a regular tub. With this tub, you’re not as fearful of falling and that’s the big thing. Along with the tub, came a new toilet. We had a stroke so we looked into walk-in tubs. The American Standard’s sales representative was good at his job. My son was watching the installers and he thought they were quite good. It was an easy installation because they put it in our basement bathroom. However, the tub isn't deep enough. We've had a lot of hot tubs and we wanted our whole body almost down to our neck to be submerged and there was no way we could get it done. Even the seats were not comfortable, which is where we slide down. It’s more like an upright chair, which was not good. It would be better we could be on the end of the water on the shoulders since that would be the needed massage as we get older. What we get were massage from the middle of the back and the legs. But otherwise, the drain of the tub was very good. The tub does what people say, then it drains itself quite fast, so I don't freeze to death.
My husband has therapy every about four times a week and none of the therapists will put him in there because he can't stand, but he's beginning to be able to maneuver a little bit with his arms. Overall, I would recommend American Standard Walk-in Baths, but they won't fit everybody. I'm glad my husband and I were short because then, we can’t go down far enough in the water. I had a knee replacement and the orthopedic surgeon that I had said that if I ever ran across some money that I put myself in one of those walk-in tubs. My insurance company paid part of the cost of the tub. We love the sales rep. He came out here and did an okay job. Now the installation, my husband and I disagreed totally on that. I thought the guy that put it in was a baboon. My husband thought he was great. But he's not a follow-upper. I had places on my wall and my hallway that were never fixed as a result of bringing the tub in. We live in an older house and older neighborhood, and some of those hallways and some of those doorways are not especially made for the tub. So, they ruined the paint on my hallway wall and there was nothing said about it.
The tub is still not properly installed. It wasn't shored up properly. They replaced the gasket on the tub and what they did on the gasket wasn't correct. So, it's a big thing to get service on this tub, although we were told it had a lifetime warranty on it. I even talked to the man that owns the company and he sent people out here. But they're sitting in one place and I'm sitting someplace else.
It's a good product and I've enjoyed many hours in it. I like the tub part but there are definitely some design flaws in it. I find it extremely difficult to clean, like where the door closes. The method of cleaning that we were told to do is not sufficient to me. I feel like there are some design issues that someone should have taken a little closer look at before they let it out on the street. It even got a hole in the part where the door slams. There was a hole in the bottom of that material. Now, that came from American Standard. It's poor material to me. That was not the people that I bought it from or the installation, that was the company, American Standard.

My wife is 72 years old and I figured that a walk-in tub would be something good for her to use. It would be easier for her to get in and out of it. We had a redwood tub with a shower, but she had to raise her legs to get over the bathtub. That wasn’t happening. I wish I would have just gotten the walk-in shower instead of the walk-in bathtub, because she’ll have better access to the shower in and out. She still has to raise her foot up a good bit just to get in and that’s the problem she’s having since she has a problem with her legs. With a rolling shower though, there is hardly any lift.
Three years ago, she had circulation problems in her legs. I got the tub so that she can sit in the hot water with the jets to help comfort her legs. It was feasible at the time when I bought it, however it's not working now since she has got more circulation problems than that. Another reason why I got the tub is so my wife could sit in it and would adjust everything. But now, when she's getting up in age, it's getting hard to raise her leg high enough to get in it since she needs access and help to raise her leg to get in it. She won't use the tub unless I'm there.
Other than that, the sales and the service were terrific. Everything was good. They did what they said they were going to do and explained everything well. They had an electrician come in and hook up a special outlet for the tub since it needs its own circuit. I would recommend the tub to others if they ask me about it, but first I would ask why are they getting it. I would tell them that American Standard Walk-in Baths is okay down the line, but they should look at this before they make a decision.

American Standard Walk-In Tubs is the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I cannot believe I ever have anything that would turn upside down. It started out last September and they just finished last week. When their salesman came, he was very polite, kind, and very informative. He got pictures of my electric panel and he told me right there that it didn't have enough power available. They had to put a sub panel in. We went for the deal with the Jacuzzi tub then they came to put it in.
When the installers came, they told me they can't put it in and my sub panel wouldn't work. It can't get electricity to my tub. So I asked why it wouldn't work when I get electricity everywhere else in the house and I did that for a new furnace, and so they did it. Then, we made an agreement that I would take my Jacuzzi. That let them for $5000 off but they didn't want to write a new contract. They wanted to charge me the whole boat, for the subpanel, the jacuzzi, the whole thing. They wouldn't refile about it. So, then I told them to put the soaker tub in and they came to put it in. But they got the wrong tub. It wouldn't fit, but put it in anyhow so it wouldn't work.
Then, there was a big hole in my floor. Bugs and everything else came in the house and so called and cried and screamed until they finally sent a guy back and he put foam in the hole. But then, the tub wouldn't drain, so they sent a guy again and he came out and fixed it. They blamed it all on the salesman. But they can't do that. He was honest about everything he said. He took a picture of it and they told me what he had, and then they went on doing the deal and I ended up paying $8000 for a stupid walk-in soaker tub and I’m paying $100 a month and it's not what I wanted.
I needed a walk-in tub. My wife and I are both handicapped, and I can't afford to fall out of here and break another hip. I fell out of the regular shower once, and then from there, it's one catastrophe after another. I was there taking a bath and I couldn't get off because the drain wouldn't drain so I tried to crawl over the side of this walk-in tub, and then I fell, backward out on the floor because I'm wet. My wife helped picked me up and she told me that I shouldn't crawl out. I asked her if she wants me to sit in there for five hours because I couldn't open the door. The tub was full.
I was very unhappy with the way I was treated. They don't even understand me. In fact, when I called about the drain after the second time I fell out of the tub, trying to crawl out. They told me to take the little butterfly at the bottom of the tub, then followed up that I should take out the screw there. So I said it's not at the bottom of the tub and I would not be screwing anything around. I picked up a tub that was supposed to work and I want the tub to work. So I told them that I don't care what they do, but nobody is going to get paid if I don't get my tub to work. For the price I paid for the tub and the months I went without a service, I'm not touching anything.
Also, they put that hot water and cold water faucet backward and the guy that came and fixed the drain laughed. He noticed the faucets are backward and changed them. Overall, I'm very dissatisfied. For a supposed to be a big company, I've had to fight from Day 1. I agreed to do a $14,000 installation, which is absolutely stupid.

I looked for walk-in tubs and Kohler and American Standard were the only two highly rated ones. I got estimates from both and felt like American Standard gave me more input and information than the representative from Kohler, so I went with American Standard. The rep spent quite a bit of time going over what they do and how they do it in which the competitor would just blanket over everything.
Apparently, when they got ready to go, they found out that their permit hadn’t been processed properly. That threw them back so they had to do that. It wasn’t a big deal, but it cost them a couple of weeks, but once they got in, they were very professional about it. They had to remove the old tub and a lot of stuff and ended up having to build a facade around it so it would fit into the area that the old tub was in. They also had to do some tile work that had to be taken out to get the tub, and then they cut it and put it back in, which I’m sure they really didn’t plan on doing. It was all done under the roughly $16,000 that the tub and the installation cost.
I got it for my wife because I was having to lift her physically out of our tub. She didn’t have the strength to do it on her own. She could have crawled out, but I didn’t want that. I also knew sooner or later that my back was going to go out and I needed to do something. Once the tub got in, I found out that we had to put her in an assisted living situation, so she really never used the tub. I used it once and I was disappointed, but it was because of my misunderstanding of what hydrotherapy meant.
I was looking at my hot tub outside where I turn on the jets to touch my back at high. They work my muscles over and I was expecting the same thing with the tub. The jets came out, but it was not at the force that massaged the muscles, it was the heating. I was stupid to think that I was going to get jet propulsion. I called and asked them to put a higher horsepower motor, and I was told that they don't recommend doing that because it would possibly blow out all the other connections in there.
So, I’m living with it and I wash my dogs in it because they can sit on the seat and I don’t have to bend over the tub when I wash them. The dogs don’t like bathing there any better than they do on the tub, but it’s easier on my back. So, I’ve got a very expensive dog-washing area. Other than that, everything American Standard did was exactly what I expected them to do. I love that the toilet they installed was part of it. It’s a very fast flush toilet which has saved a lot of water. I have recommended them to a friend of mine whose wife has MS.

I didn’t know the tub was going to be so expensive but my mother loves the tub because she can’t sit down in a regular tub. The walk-in tub is really convenient for her and it’s also easier for me to get her in there and give her a bath because I have to bathe her.

I liked the lifetime warranty of American Standard and I thought that was important. They're also an American company and they're not going to go out of business. And when I have a problem, they're going to come to my rescue. Walk-in tubs aren't simple and there are some water things going on. I didn't want to end up with a tub and no support. My sales guy was nice but he didn't have an understanding of the installation which was my only complaint. I told him that the tub was for a rental property and my renter was going to be out of town when this tub was going to be done and I needed to know what I was going to have to do as a homeowner to get the bathroom up and running again in terms of the tiles. The guy didn't have a clue as to what that was going to look like. All he said was everything would be fine and I'll have some tile repair above the tub.
Also, if you just go online and you want to buy an American Standard walk-in tub, it's pretty inexpensive. But the purchase of this with its lifetime warranty and installation is really expensive. And it didn't make sense for me to have it delivered to this rental property, sit on the front porch then for me to call an installer that has never installed one. I was between a rock and a hard place. I couldn't find anywhere making it more economical. But the people that installed the tub were very skilled and they really knew what they were doing and they didn't damage anything. They were incredible. I felt comfortable with the company and I paid top dollars.
All I had to do was put some little tiny trim pieces on the face of my walls. I was already selecting new tiles for the tiles around and was going to all the hassle trying to figure out how I was going to get the bathroom looking good again. I contacted the sales guy a couple of times after I signed the paperwork and asked if I needed to select tiles all the way to the ceiling. His response on the email was yes, Y-E-S. He could have been a lot more customer friendly after the sale. He was great during the sale, but after the sale, I didn't feel terribly supported by him. Also, one time I tested the tub and the one thing I was disappointed in was the power of the jets. I have a jet tub in my own bathroom and I was expecting the same feeling. I have not read the manual but the renter has and I asked him how he likes the tub. He's 80 some years old and he said it was just fine.

I always go with American Standard for anything that comes into my house because they have the most reliable equipment and guarantees, so I knew I wanted them before I went into purchasing the tub. A gentleman came over here to do all the measurements and told us all the good and not-so-good things. He was very thorough and pointed to us everything he had. Also, one of the things that really got us more going with the tub was the lifetime guarantee on it. So, if anything goes wrong with the tub, anyone will get in time.
The installers got into some modifications since the entrances to our bathrooms are limited in size, but I was amazed at how thorough and knowledgeable they were. We were able to bring the tub all the way to the bathroom. The unit itself is self-sufficient and it’s wonderful. It’s a lovely unit and an excellent piece of machine. The only problem is that we are sloppy that we cannot take too much advantage of it even though the tub is right there. But we enjoyed everything and we’re happy with our American Standard tub.

I have many health issues and one of them is arthritis, so I can't step into a normal tub and I need a walk-in type. The American Standard tub is doing its purpose, so I don't fall and I can walk in, but I can't do some of the things that I should be able to do. Their ads show a picture of somebody resting his or her head back and feeling comfortable from soaking, but that doesn't work for me because there’s not enough room and I can't bend down enough to get there, and I’m a small person.
The installers were great but when they did the calking, they didn't calk everything. I walked around and there was one area that water could get into, and you could tell just by looking at it. That was ridiculous, and so I called and when I made an appointment for them to come, they had to cancel the first one. It took two or three messages before I got them. The salesman pressured me into getting an American Standard and I wanted the tub, but for that kind of money, I'm sorry I got it. I would never say anything about American Standard to anyone, other than to un-buy it because from that standpoint, I would never do it.

We got in a couple of car accidents and my back was pretty sore. We thought that maybe the walk-in tub from American Standard would do us some good, so we checked that out. American Standard's salesman told me it would take two and a half days to do everything. So the installer came in, put the tub together, and then asked me to lie that he got out of the house at 7:30, which I did. But he didn't get out of here until 9:30.
Unfortunately, the original installation was done incorrectly. The engineers should have everything leaning on two or three degrees so that water would be running back in towards the tub. It shouldn't be straight flat. But when the installer put it in, he had the back and the back front end of it below. So any water that splashed out from the jets would run down the side, round behind me, and flood the floor. I couldn't stop the water from splashing out if I’m using the jets. The installer came out and put a bluffer up there so any water running wouldn't run back behind and out on the floor.
So far, I have been in this tub four times since we got it and wouldn't get into it until I got it fixed because I was making a mess in my bathroom all the time. The guy who fixed it did the best he could. While we couldn't match the same wood that was on the flooring, it was close enough. And I had the flooring in the bathroom tiled because they were going to put linoleum back and if water gets underneath that, it turns black under.
The tub's worthless as far as getting into it and taking a bath. And overall, it certainly hurt our savings. We're retired and whatever savings we've got has helped us a lot. But there's been not much on American Standard Walk-In Tubs. It's just ridiculous for what we're getting out of it. If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t. I wasn't happy. Also, since the installer's new on the job, he still has a lot to learn about putting the thing in.

A guy came to my house and explained to me that American Standard Walk-In Tubs are very good and I accepted it. It was a 50 gallon tub so I asked him if my water heater was enough to fill the tub up and he said that it was. So, I established the installation of the walk-in tub which went very nice and perfect. And they cleaned up after. The tub's quality is good but I spent more than $10,000 but wasn't able to use it because the water's not enough for me. The water heater turned out to be 45 gallons only.
I have a friend who's getting old was going to install the walk-in tub. Although I recommend this product to him, I said no because it was a very bad experience for me. Until now, I'm still trying to find some person to install the 75 gallon water heater. But my space might not be enough so I'm so upset. It's ridiculous and I always complain to their consumer department. If American Standard treats their customer like this, their company's reputation would be ruined.

My wife is diabetic and she got arthritis in the back and the disc are too close together, and the tub is good for her. I've seen American Standard for years when I go to restaurants, but I saw their walk-in tub on television. When I went online, I checked the best portion that I can afford. Then, a few weeks later, when I saw it online again, I filled up a form. A gentleman came by and called it on me and showed me the product He had done all amazing work, and he couldn't have been better. They have to take a door and two vents out. It is moved in one piece from the kitchen dining room where he cut it out for the panel and he installed the gutter and put the paneling back where he can burrow each other. In doing so, he saved me $600. He was very knowledgeable and he didn't waste any time. The installation was done by a crew of three and each knew what they have to do and they've done it without any supervision.
My only complaint was that it takes about 32 minutes to take my bath and it takes me 10 to 12 minutes to fill up the water and it's 20 minutes to go through the bowl. But, it's good. I'm very pleased with it and the company has been around a long time so if I have any problem, they won't be going out. Nevertheless, I've also noticed since I installed my tub that a lot of people are trying to sell them on the internet. But looking long range, I think it'd be really worthy.

American Standard's salesman was excellent and very nice. I liked what I heard and thought, "I’m just going to go with this." I kept telling him I wanted a more reasonable price as it was too expensive for me. He came down on the price considerably, to the point that I felt I could afford it. The installers were okay and did their job. I've had it for a year and I was using it twice a week, but I’ve cut down to once a week since my water and sewerage have gone up. I like to use it after dinner and I sleep better at night after I’ve been in the jacuzzi. Plus, it helps with my back problem. However, I'm only getting the green light and the rest of the colored lights aren't working. Plus, sometimes I have to flush the free toilet they gave me twice to make it go down. When I need to call someone and complain, I have the name of the person on a card and a phone number. He’s very good about coming and working on what my complaint is. I’m happy with the tub and I’d recommend it to friends.

I heard that American Standard was guaranteed and supposed to be the best. I had an accident and couldn’t get into my other tub after that's why I had to get American Standard walk-in tub and with it, I was able to get in and out easily. It's working out really well but we had a few issues about how the walk-in tub was going to be installed. They had ordered a different kind of tub which wouldn’t have been working here because the salesman said it wouldn’t work. But the gentleman that came out solved that problem and they made it exactly what I wanted. It took another week because they had to order the tub again.
I’m a heavy guy and I always had some issues when I step into noises. So they came out and put some braces in to make sure everything was solid. I also had an eye surgery so I’m careful I don’t get the water in my eyes. I have to tilt my head back and pull the shower head out so I can do my back and the back of my hair. But I have to use two hands to push the shower head cord back in. But the installation only took a day and the two guys that came were wonderful and did a great job.

We were at a vulnerable point when I talked to American Standard's salesman. He had a good sales pitch and made it sound like what they had to offer was the best there is so we purchased their tub. When the installer got here, he unloaded the bathtub so that I could see and try it on because they said I could. But it was sitting on my front porch and his truck was in the driveway with a bunch of other stuff all around it so that I couldn’t get out of my garage. Then he went in, removed the old tub, took the old door off and enlarged the opening. We were told ahead of time that the door to our bathroom was not wide enough for the bathtub to fit through and we knew that it was going to have to be enlarged.
Then he proceeded to break up the old bathtub with a sledgehammer or something that went flying and broke our commode. So, he had to leave, go to store, and buy a new commode. Then he came back and put it in. This new commode is different and lower to the ground and we don’t like it as much as we liked the one that got broken. We found that old one more comfortable, too. After putting in the new commode, the installer didn’t secure it because he was going to move it when he brought the new bathtub in. He didn't take the door out either because he ordered the door and the door frame, and the one they sent was the wrong one. And if we took out the door before he had the new door, we’d have no privacy in our bathroom until he could get the new door in a week later. So we had a bathroom that had a door but no tub and a non-secured commode. When we sat on the commode, it would move because it wasn’t secured to the floor.
Then finally, the installer widened the door and came with the tub. He initially put the tub in my garage and I couldn’t get around my car because the tub took up a lot of space. I moved the car to where I couldn’t get in the cabinets and couldn’t go past it to go out to the mailbox and it was an inconvenience. Then, when he brought the tub in, my hallway door frame got all chewed up. He came back another day and puttied that in but didn’t paint or re-stain it. Now, my door frames are natural. They’re stained but not painted. I had someone stain it but you can still see the gouaches in the door frame.
The installer was a nice guy and he put in long hours. He was here until 11 o’clock every night that he was here. Still, our installation experience was a total nightmare. They also told us it would take a day or two to install but it took him several weeks to finish it. Then, he was supposed to come back and show me how to use the tub and that took a month.
A while back, I was in the bathtub and I couldn't get the shower thing to come out. I wanted to rinse off. So, my husband came in and he had a really difficult time but he turned it on. Then when I went to take another bath, the shower was still on and I couldn’t turn it off. I wound up soaking the bathroom including the toilet paper. The shower was on, there’s no shower curtain, and I couldn’t turn it off where the water would come through the spigot. One of the big things they said when they sold it to us was that their product was meant for people with physical limitations like arthritis which we both have. All that is good and well but this little old lady can't do it.
Finally, my husband went in there and he could barely do it. It was more than an effort for him. We called American Standard and they recommended we WD-40 it, which he had done twice but didn’t help any. My husband thinks the shower part needs to be replaced with a different style and that they should put a butterfly valve instead of what they got. So they need to revamp that shower release thing.
The bathtub is wonderful to use if you have the strength and the time to use it. I would like to use our bathtub a lot more but the time constraints limit how often I use it because I have to get in and fill it up which takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Then once I'm in there, I want to spend time using the jacuzzi which will take at least another 15 or 20 minutes. Plus, I can’t get out until it’s drained so if I don’t have an hour to bathe, then I go jump in the shower in the other room. Since June, we used it a half a dozen times because of the time constraints. So we paid $14,000 for a tub that we can’t use. That was a lot of money and if we had an experience with it prior to purchasing it, we probably would not have purchased it.
Another issue I never considered when we got it installed is when the kids come, they always use that bathtub and that shower so we have to share the master bathroom shower with them. And if we resell this house to people with families, under the circumstances that we now have seen about bathing in that thing, it’s not going to be for people that have kids. It's the only bathtub in the house and you can’t put the kids there because they would drown.

I had a good experience with American Standard Walk-In Tubs and I’m satisfied. I’ve known them for about 30 years and I decided to get one after all these years. I had my mind made up even before I even got the tub. I looked at American Standard Walk-In Tubs online and looked at those walk-in tubs and found out how they were built, and they’re acrylic. Some of them got a metal frame. The information I got told me the best one to get because of how they are structured. The people working there that I spoke to didn’t have more knowledge about it than I did. The installation team was excellent but they kept my brass fittings. I figured if they were going to take it, they should have asked me and that they wanted them. I don’t have any use for them but still they took them without my permission. And they left a big hole in the wall and I had to patch it up myself.
I didn’t say anything about it and I figured they knew their job. That’s the way they were supposed to do it but I realized it wasn’t. I fixed it myself and it was nothing major. I’m satisfied but I’m hard to satisfy anyway because I'm a perfectionist. I got the tub because of therapeutic purposes, massage, and hot water. I like to take baths with soap. I'm not a shower person that’s why I got it. And it’s easy to step in because I’m 76 years old. However, it costs way too much and that’s one complaint I got. That’s about a $7,000 tub but you can buy them for $2,500. The door that they had to put it in, I cut that out myself and they reimbursed me. They were going to do it and I told them it’s not $100. I said I could cut it out myself. I'm a carpenter, not by trade but by hobby and I cut that out and it saved me $900. Then I put it back in. I put a bifold door in. Instead of being a 24-inch door, I got a 48-inch door now for the bathroom.
I wanted to do it myself because I knew if I do it myself, it will be surgically done and it’s going to be neat. I was going to put the whole tub in but I said no. I'm glad I didn’t because that tub is hard getting in the house and they had difficulty. They had to back up three times. And that thing is heavy for two people. I was so frustrated with the procedure of cutting the door about two or three more inches wider. But they said, “No, don’t do that. We can handle that. We can get it in.” They kept trying and got it in there. But I had to take some of the tile trim molding down because that was less than 34 inches. It protruded about two inches on both sides. I took that down, put it back up surgically, and put up the same one. I did it myself. I didn’t want anybody to do that and didn’t want them tearing my wall up. I did it right so I'm satisfied.
My wife loves the tub and likes to sit down on the shower part. I like it, too but I don’t love it. I don’t use this thing. I only use it twice a week and I shower the rest of the week. It will take a lot of water, plus it’s loud as hell. You can hear the bubbles all through the house. It’s cool. But other than that, I'm satisfied. The price is astronomical. I spent $12,000 but they started off with $21,000. They discounted this and discounted that. They had one and they said, “We have one that’s been cancelled. We’ll let you have it for $12,000.” I knew they had that one all along and it was just like the one I wanted, too. I've been dying to get one for the last 20 years because you get a massage and a bubble bath. It makes you feel good. It’s not for the bathing purpose but for the therapeutic purpose, like the whirlpool, the hot water, and the massage. I’m happy with the experience but not with the finances.

He seemed to know what he was talking about. Then the installers did their job, went a little beyond the standard service, and took care of some things for us. We’ve had a large olive painting above the tub which they took down and then because this tub was taller, they rehang it properly slightly higher than it had been. The installation took most of one day and was excellent. I use the shower while my wife primarily uses the tub and she is very happy with it.

American Standard has been around for a long time and I've bought a lot of bathroom fixtures and stuff so I know the American Standard name. But as far as the bathtub, which I think has a different name, I saw it online and made a phone call. The sales representative was very nice and I showed her my bathtub. Being handicapped somewhat, it's very dangerous for old people to step in and outside of a bathtub so I said I'll share with the lady that came by. Getting the suppliers and the people that worked in the tub though was a whole different story. Their communication needs improvement. They were not really steady and not really confident. In fact, to get this thing fixed, I had to write their place and had to do some negotiations with them to come out here and fix the thing. There have been problems with the bathtub.
At first, the electricity went off on the side, the computer part that makes the tub function. So, the guy came out and said it was something and he supposedly fixed it. Then it happened again and it wasn't fixed. And so, they sent out someone else. When the guy came out, there was a motor not working right. He pulled out the tub at an angle which distressed the metal around the door and the caps so they popped off. And now, the trim around the door is cracked so that needs to be repaired and fixed. They sent me the caps but no one to put them on and I'm not taking a hammer to the tub to try to get the old ones off. They need someone to put them on. I haven't contacted the people that put it in yet. There's supposed to be a lifetime warranty on the material so that's my discomfort with it. Other than that, the tub is comfortable. It does drain well and doesn't take too long to fill it up. You have to sit in there until it fills up to get a bath.
Those are my complaints about it and I understand they've shortened the time that it stays hotter. But I never waited for my hot water and didn't need that anyway. Nonetheless, I'd probably buy another one but they're very expensive. I use it a lot as a shower. I'm short and I use it as a tub only once a month so I don't use the Jacuzzi part very much at all. The shower is fine and it's easier for me to get in and out. I like the wand on it and the fact that I can sit down too while I'm showering is helpful.

American Standard Walk-In Tubs sent a crew up from Chicago. They were semi-skilled and did not care what they did on the job. They said they drove all night to get here. In addition, they brought up the wrong tub and I had to contest the issue with them. The flooring had to be replaced downstairs for $657. They had to replace the door opening or pull it out to get the tub in there and they damaged the jams and split 'em. They didn't pull a building permit, which was required. Plus, I found out later that they weren't licensed to work in Minnesota. The city inspector told me that they had no business doing the job.
The workmanship was also shoddy and I had to get an electrician out here from a city-sponsored type of program. Consequently, the electrician took about 4 hours to rewire the box and get the installation up to code. The city inspector came out later and approved it. It was a disaster. If I had to do it all over again, I would not even consider it. I called the woman who was in-charged of the operation and she was cooperative and she paid the bills thereafter.
The salesman, on the other hand, was very congenial, but he hadn't told me where the crew was coming from. I asked them if they had a Minnesota crew and he said yes. However, it was not a Minnesota crew and they just came in on a night run. There was an aggressive female in the threesome that came in here to work. She insisted I sign the releases while the workmanship was shoddy and terrible. Finally, I had to almost escort them off the premises. I couldn't take any more of that.
The tub has the standard technology. They fit in a fast drain, and that's at least partially true. The spouts for air bubbles that are shot into the water are poorly spaced in a couple of instances because they get your feet in direct contact with this bubbling, supposedly soothing water and you have to somewhat elevate them. I'm just glad that it's all over with and they have to sort this behind me.

The service personnel were nice but they failed miserably the first month or so. I blame the equipment because their personnel had to come back out here and keep working on it. They had to change the pump motor and drill some holes in it for the heat buildup because these things are designed for people to sit with their back up against there. It never had the same pressure since and it doesn’t seem to have the power that it had when I first got it. The company sold me a crappy product because I spent $15,000 on it and it takes long to get it to work and then it doesn’t work like when they sold it to me. It only lasted a few days before the thing broke down again.
The salesman was misleading. He told me one thing and I wound up having electricians come out here and rewire and do a bunch of crap that I wasn’t informed about when I was sold the machine. American Standard kept the technicians really busy and they waited days in between and then when they came up here and did the work, the machine still didn’t function properly. I don’t blame the technicians. They just did their jobs and they were awesome. They came out, did not complain and redid whatever they had to do.
I’m a disabled veteran and I bought the American Standard Walk-In Tub because I’ve had multiple injuries and surgeries. I spent money for the supposed number one in the nation and it turned out to be a piece of garbage. They only seemed to be interested in making a sale. Once he got my name on the dotted line, the salesman was gone.
This company has been in the plumbing industry for as long as I can remember. If this is the way they’re going to do business, I’ll never recommend any of their products ever again. I would tell all my veteran friends not to buy from them because they’ll sell a piece of equipment and not stand behind their product. They were in such big hurry to sell it and get out of here. They didn’t even bother to follow-up on their sales. American Standard didn’t give me any discounts. American Standard has been around for a long time and they always had a good reputation. I got a walk-in tub from them after moving to my own home from my daughter-in-law’s condo where she also had a walk-in tub from a different brand. American Standard’s reps have been fine and the boys who installed it did a neat job. I went with their tub because I am short and it was advertised having a low walk-in entrance way. I'm almost 90 years old and I use it for practical purposes. The tub takes some getting used to and the one thing they did not put on it is a very small handle on the right-hand side of the entryway. Though it is not something that can be added, it has to be done in the factory. It would only be a three-inch handle but it would make all the difference in the world. It would be something of a grab bar that would steady the person who's getting in and out of that walk-in tub.
Also, I was dissatisfied because the incentive of their advertising was that it was a low entryway. I guess I did not perceive the idea of a low entryway the way I wanted it. It's difficult to get in and out of. I had to have steps put in and have a pole put in to give me stability to get in and out of the tub. It cost me around $400 more to make the thing useable. Plus, it's a very overpriced article.

I've always liked American Standard products since childhood. We had a American Standard stool back then, but I’m upset with them now. The guys who did the work were great, but I'm not satisfied with the caulking. It keeps coming off and I have a closet at the back of it, so I need to have them come back. They were supposed to call me back, but they never did. They said that they would do anything that needed maintenance for life. Right now, I’m constantly wiping it down while I’m in the tub so that I don’t have to worry about the moisture and water. But as far as the product coming from the factory and the workmanship, I like it really well. The jets are great and I’m not unhappy with the product. But it would be fair if they would take care of the caulking.

We built our house to be ADA, when we get older and getting wheelchairs. We had the American Standard walk-in tub put it in for later, when we're old and crippled. My plumber who is building the house put the tub in and it’s what I expected. It’s a bath tub that I can get in and any jets, any kind of whirlpool feels good. It’s got a handheld shower nozzle and I use one button, which is to turn the hot water on. There’re two buttons and one does the water. The other button mixes air in with the jets and it’s better than having hard jets on especially if I'm hurting. The water comes out softened and I can adjust how much air I want to inject. There’s also a couple other buttons that my wife messes with. She might as well take a bath because she’s in the shower forever.

American Standard is an old-time name that I had confidence in. The installation team gave me a brief rundown of how the tub works but they didn't go into detail about the functions of the deodorizing attachments that go with it and what to do. So after they installed the tub, I had to call a number and figure out the best way to do things. But I was disappointed in the tub itself when I first got it. It had some problems with the rapid draining and it took me six weeks to get them straightened out, even though I had a lifetime guarantee. Plus even when American Standard decided to do something about it, there were always delays so I was dissatisfied with the service I got.
There are also two suction pads on a headrest but now they don't hold. I started to put glue on it this morning but thought that I shouldn't. Instead, I pressured until I got the suction pads to hold but then I went to lunch and when I got back, it had fallen again. Also, I have a huge water heater tank but I can never get the adequate amount of hot water into the tub in order to use it to the full capacity that I need to use any of those air or water features. But despite that, I enjoy the tub and the fact that it's easy to access.

I had fallen and I hurt myself and I was fed up. We're trying to get into my tub and I didn't call anybody else. I called American Standard Walk-In Tubs because I saw the ad and it was the first one I saw. It was something I wanted and I didn't search to see if there were better prices out there. The sales rep was a nice gentleman who came in on time and our interaction was pretty straightforward. I am happy with the decision to go with American Standard. The installation guy was excellent too. He was here one afternoon and I didn't have a big enough water heater, so he went out and got that. I paid him a check for the purchase and he put the water heater in the tub as well. He had his daughter with him and the two of them did the tub all in one day. I'm really happy with the company.
Ever since I used the American Standard tub, I’ve been going swimming every day. I even take a bath there even though I have gone swimming. I love the whirlpool and it's so nice to lay back and relax and have those jets going around you. It's so much safer getting in and out instead of a low tub which I had. However, the handle came off and the drain needs to be repaired. You're supposed to open and close the drain and I just pushed it back in. That's the only thing I had done wrong and it's been almost a year. The tub and the service have been wonderful but dealing with the finance company they set me up is horrible - their interest is just outrageous. The tub wound up costing me $15,000 which is a lot as I'm retired, and what I'm paying out each month is not getting paid off on my bill. I've recommended American Standard to friends and they loved the sound of the tub, but when I told them the cost, it really scared them off. I wished the tub was a little cheaper

I’ve got to get a larger water heater since the one that I have isn’t sufficient for filling the tub that I got from American Standard. I have the bathtub for a year now and when I purchased it, the sales rep came out once I qualified and he did a pretty good job. But I have a gas water heater and I should have known that it's not going to do the job so I could have discussed it with their rep who came out. That person could have also done a better job of evaluating the heater's size because the water goes cold before the tub gets full.
Also, the tub is very big but I wish I have known how it would fit me. I’m 5'10" so when I sit in there, it won’t even fill up and the water’s only coming up below my shoulders. I could upgrade the water tank but I still couldn’t get underwater in it. There's no way that a guy can scooch down so he’s underwater. On TV, they showed women with water bubbling around their necks and I don’t know how they did that because the seat would be on the small of their backs while they were squeezed down like that. So I wouldn’t recommend American Standard to others unless they were little.
I also have to be careful not to be squirting the water all over the floor since there’s no barrier. So I’m disappointed that I couldn't get into the tub but if that’s that way for me, it’s the same way for everybody else and they ought to know that. Another thing is that American Standard came out with the heated seats right after I bought this one. It certainly needs a heated seat to help people be a little warm in there.

I already made an appointment with another company to have them come out when we were reviewing the ads that we’ve seen in the paper. Then, my husband said to cancel the other appointment and have American Standard come out first. If we didn’t like what they had to offer, we could go to the other. Everybody has heard about American Standard and it was their reputation that sold us. Even our toilets are American Standard. Their rep was excellent. He explained in details what to expect when the installers came out and what to expect in the operation of the tub. The two guys from the installation team were great and the quality of their work was fine.
My husband has COPD and he's on oxygen all the time. We've always used the shower but a shower makes too much water vapor. Since using the American Standard walk-in tub, our water bill has gone up but my husband feels better after he's been in it because he can breathe better. That was the main thing in a shower that sprays water all over the place. As for me, I go in there with a magazine, sit in the tub for half an hour and bubble and read.

I asked companies about their warranty period for their walk-in tubs as I was looking for the hardware, the pump and all the mechanisms inside and how they were covered. They told me about the tub but they never exactly touched on my question. But when I called American Standard Walk-In Baths, they said that everything had a lifetime warranty including the inner parts and the tub.
I was displeased however with the contractor they sent out for the installation. He was supposed to be the leader of all the contractors that they have in the country in a certain section. And Minnesota happens to fall under his jurisdiction. But I have sharp ears for listening to contractors whenever they're going to tell me something. Every time this contractor said something, I had to divide by number to get an answer which was unbelievable. Also, we wanted the finest installation but I had to have them back twice to change something. When he came back the first time it was about the corroding caulking and it was atrocious. He asked why I didn't tell him while he was doing it so I explained that I have a spine problem and I couldn't be by his side watching every little itemized thing he did. He made a real mess.
I was told that the installation would be finished on the first day but it wasn't because the contractor didn't get here until 11 o'clock. He called me earlier in the day to tell me that he had to do something so I asked him to tell me what time he was going to be here and then we would go from there. He had to take out mirrors and he started complaining about how he was made to do the task of doing the existing equipment before he put in the equipment that he was sent there for. I told him that was not my problem and that it was the salesperson that did all that arrangement. I added that he could go back and get a hold of that person.
When he got here a little after 11 o'clock, he had a youngster with him. He asked me what I wanted to do with the mirrors to which I answered that I wanted to keep them. By the end of the day, the youngster was trying to get the mirrors down the seven steps to get to the front door and he broke one of them. But the contractor never said a thing about that except when he went to clean up to get out. He told me that he had to come back the next day to finish things up. I told him that if he had been here at about 8 o'clock, that would have given him enough time and he wouldn't have to come back the second day.
I came to know that he was doing other businesses while he was doing the job with me. I heard part of his conversation over the phone where he was trying to sell something that he had. And this was going on a couple free hours during the installation. That was probably one reason why he didn't meet his commitment. I told him that I did contracting work before and I knew how it operated.
I said I was going to report him and I did. I was told he started crying and that he needed to have the job but I wouldn't let him come into my house anymore even to do a repair on the future. American Standard would have to make other arrangements otherwise, the contract would not be signed. When the youngster the contractor brought along with him finally came back to get the caulk and squirt away, he said the work wasn't too bad and that it was acceptable. I told him to stop and to do the job he was there to do. I didn't want to hear him belly-aching about any more stuff.
Now, I'm still living with the problem and I meant to call the company but I've busy taking care of my health problems. But I had another person take a look at the tub and was told that the water runs right around the tub and right down the floor. This means that the tub is not leveled. I use the tub twice a week and every time I get out of the tub and the water's on the floor, I think about how one could slip and fall by accident. I have to put towels down there then pick them up and put them in the proper place. The purpose of the walk-in tub is that I don't have to step over and get out. I just walk in, sit down the tub, lock the door and turn the water on. I'll be handling the issue now and won't be asking American Standard anything.

It was a horrible experience during the installation. The installer came out dressed in his pajamas. Then, he went into my daughter’s room since the attic is in there in the closet. He asked my daughter if it was okay if he took a couple of pictures. She thought he was taking a picture up in the attic so she said sure. But he stood there and took pictures of my daughter. We just wanted to get him out but there’s been some problem. The water stays on the caulking where the little shelf is. Then the caulking was coming up and water was getting behind it, so we were thinking that it’s possible that it’s going to create mold.
So I called and they sent somebody out. The gentleman could not believe the sloppy job that the previous guy did. So he took pictures and was supposed to turn them in. He said we would hear from somebody right away but we haven’t heard from anybody. So I called them again and the lady that I talked to said she hasn’t received any pictures. She also said she’d take of it and she’d get a work ticket but I haven't heard from anybody still. I have only used the tub in the beginning but now, I haven't. I told the lady if nobody comes out here, they can come pull this thing out.

I've heard of American Standard before and they've been around for a while. I spoke with three people. The first person was somebody operating out of an office in the mid-west somewhere. They were pretty good at taking down the information about where we live and our phone number. The next person we had was somebody who purported to need to come to the house and measure the size of the bathroom and check the accessibility down the hallway or upstairs. That person seemed very knowledgeable about the mechanical stuff, however, he didn't really understand where we lived, which is in Massachusetts, on Martha’s Vineyard Island. It is different than Nantucket which is another island in Massachusetts.
He was supposed to arrive and I was going to pick him up with the boat sometime in the morning, but he wasn't there. I came back home and it's a half an hour trip each way. Then I got a call from American Standard that said he had gone to the wrong island. Instead of driving 50 miles or less, he drove 150 miles one way and then 150 back wasting a whole day and that disrupted our plans a little bit. On the other hand, when he arrived a few days later, he answered most of our questions very well, so I won't hold it against him for the rest of his life.
The installers were the best in-person performers that we've dealt with. One was a very experienced plumber who could also do electrical work. He was assisted by another fellow who was experienced but didn't have as much as the first guy. But together, they're a terrific team and they did a lot of work in a small amount of time. They brought themselves over and arrived on a boat. They got on a boat with the car and came to our house. Then they came back a second day and part of the third day. They worked like the devil and it made me tired just watching them.
At some point, there was an issue about something and they needed to get some part. I said, "I'll call the headquarters and see if they can accept my word that you wanted this." They gave me a picture of it. However, I found the people at the office very officious and weren't as helpful as they should have been. They knew everything and they didn't need any information from anybody else apparently. For example, I told them initially that whoever is coming out here, we'd help the whole process. If they called me first I would have told them how to get to where they needed to go. They said, "Oh no, we have these maps and radar and electronics." I didn't really like talking to the people in the office after the first call, but the workers that came out were very good. The tub works fine, though. My wife enjoys it when she uses it. Overall, it was a good experience.

My mother-in-law moved in with us and she has arthritis and chronic pain so we went looking for a tub. American Standard seemed to be the industry standard so we went with them. The people we talked to and came out to our house were very informative and helpful and they set up the whole process for us. However the installation people are another story entirely. They came here during a snowstorm so they tried very hard to get the job done very fast. We have been in the process of remodeling our house and we had a problem with condensation for our toilet so we put a mixer valve in the toilet to add a bit of hot water for the toilet not to sweat. The installers put that out, as well as a length of copper, so our toilet was flushing entirely on hot water.
I think what they did was a shortcut and it decreased the amount of water to the tub significantly. When they timed it, it didn’t take very long to fill it all because they did it with hot and cold water together. But when you try to fill it with warm water it took 30 to 40 minutes to fill. We’ve called them several times to try and get it rectified and they told us we had to hire our own plumber to come in and fix it and then they would repay us for it. When my mom uses the tub she has a lot less pain as both the heat and the water take pressure off her joins while she’s in it. The product is exceptional and we’re very satisfied with it but I wish they had better care of us as customers. The tub improves one’s quality of life but I could not tell people to go with American Standard as I'm very dissatisfied with the service.

We’re 85 years old and we didn’t want to slip so we got a walk-in tub from American Standard. Their sales rep was a regular sales guy who wanted to sell something but he knew what he was selling. We like the tub very much and it has all the jets. We feel relaxed when we go in there.
But, I was a little disappointed when the tub wasn’t set in right. The installers had to come back and the tub had to be totally reconstructed. They had to put it like a shelf because it’s not the exact same size as just tub but it’s a bit smaller. Then we had a little trouble with the valves and they sent me a couple and I replaced them. The main installer was good but the other two guys were so-so. But the two people who did most of it didn’t come back. The guy in charge came with his wife and they put the tub together. In contrast with the American Standard Walk-in Baths sales rep I dealt with, she was all pleasant, not pushy, and very knowledgeable. Plus, they have a lifetime warranty on the product. Then the installation experience was mixed. The team was very knowledgeable in the plumbing of the tub but there’s an awful lot of carpentry work that went into the finish, and they never had any training on carpentry works. The trim they put around the tub was poorly done but they tried their very best to make it right. A lot of it was covered up when all was finished. So, overall, we’re satisfied.

The rep, who was from New Orleans, explained everything in detail. And then they sent three installers and they were very good but I wasn't happy with whatever product they put around my tub. It looked cheap to me. To spend all that money, it should have something nicer to fill in around that tub. It should've taken them two days to install but they wanted to finish, so they worked till way after dark to finish it. They hurried up about it and didn't do as well a job as I expected. I ended up getting my cultured marble man to finish it up to make it look nicer. I like everything about my tub. It has all the features that I was looking for. I was trying to get a hold of the other companies but they didn’t return my call but American Standard did. The rep was very knowledgeable and told me what size I needed. I trusted him and the seat inside is fine but when I'm actually taking a bath where I want to lounge in it, I have to really scoot down like I’m off the seat to get more water in the upper part of your body. I would like the water to go up over me when I’m taking this like luxurious bath. Maybe the seat should be longer so I can slouch down and I wish I was given the option of a little more leg room because I had a knee replacement and it's hard to have my legs bent when I’m crunched up.
The rep also told me that the water heater I had would be sufficient but it only heated water up to my knees. If they would have told me that, it might have altered my decision of getting that one. I ended up having to get another 40-gallon water heater. When I fill the tub up, it takes a substantial amount of the hot water. So I’ll have the dishwasher after the bath or do the laundry because I couldn’t have them both running at the same time.
The installation was fine but the installers could have done a better caulking job around the tub too, because it was separating from the wall. It left a gap where I had a bathtub before. It had wall tiles and even if they would have suggested about making the wall tiles go down to the floor so it looked more complete, it just looked like they’re chopped off. I wish that they would have advised better or made the bathtub fit better so it accommodated that space. I also noticed that the water spout itself is loose. It was stationary when I got it but now it moves. I'm not getting any leak but I don't know if it's still okay or how that can be fixed.

He wasn't pushy at all and did a very good explanation of what we would get, so we were very pleased and we bought a walk-in tub. The installation guy was very professional, too, and he did a super job. There was just one guy because his partner's wife had just had a baby the night before he came to do the installation. He was so apologetic and he came back Saturday to finish the installation because he was very anxious. The only thing I would change is they have now the free bidet toilet seat, and it doesn't fit the toilet well. They need to take a different toilet that the seat will fit better on.
The walk-in tub is very beneficial for my husband because he had two strokes, and he has had rheumatoid arthritis for years and it continues to get worse. We bought the American Standard walk-in tub for his safety, so even though we were having home care come, he wouldn't get a bath with them most of the time. My husband wanted to get the American Standard for me because I’d fallen so many times. One time, I hit our bathroom toilet so hard. So, he called them and there was a call right back. The salesman, though, before he left, wanted to come in and see me. I was in bed and my husband was here. He kissed me right in front of my husband. We have guns here and I am just so surprised that my husband didn't wing him with one of them. But that salesman never came back. We have not seen him since that time.
They gave the installers the wrong unit. It was a left instead of a right. They got it in and my husband said, "My wife is going to have to crawl over our toilet to get into the tub." The guys held back and said, "Oh my, goodness. They gave us the wrong one." So, the guys did all that work, plus the plumbing was wrong, but they had to be on the other end. They had to stay overnight in a motel here, and one of them drove up and picked up the correct tub. They had to wait until it came from some other state, so that whoever was driving it down to meet the other guy that got up and got it. That was in Columbia, which is four or five hours from us. He went really out of his way to get the right unit.
The handles in the shower are wonderful. They're extremely safe. But the thing that they didn't tell us is there was no grip. The first time we went in the shower, I sat on the seat and I slid almost completely out, my husband caught me, and onto the bathroom floor. There is no traction in the showers. We have a spray which my husband bought and sprayed on any place that I would touch, sit or stand. We let that sit a day and then it was very safe. Overall, though, the shower is number one.

I was curious about American Standard Walk-In Tubs and their salesman came out and told us all about it. He was really good and so we decided to go with them. It's mainly for my wife. She has vascular arthritis and scoliosis of the spine so she can't get into a regular tub. But she was able to get in the walk-in tub and then I would lock her up like she's sitting on there. It gives her tremendous amount of relief. There's a couple of hours that she'll be in there.
When the installation team came, they had to saw the old tub out and it was a messy job. There were all kinds of stuff and none of them got to the rest of the house. They were very courteous and will not really wait to get things fixed straight. They were superb and they cleaned up after themselves. The walk-in tub got a heater built into it. Whatever temperature you set it, you feel it. The heater keeps the water under constant temperature so you can stay in there and you don't have to keep draining and putting in more warm water.
The only problem we had was, we only had a regular hot water tank. So we had to put another 250-gallon hot water tanks to fill it and keep it at the level it should be. The installation team explained that we may need more water but they wouldn't know until they come out to install the tub. And when they came, they said that will never do. So we went to a plumber and got our best bid and got a really good deal. We got a good team who set up to put the gallon tandems, hot water tanks and detect the hottest water from the tub. And when you fill it up, the warm water goes to the tub fast and it is able to maintain it. It worked out really well.
Overall, it was a really good experience. When we bought the walk-in tub, the team was there within two weeks. I thought it was going to be a really holy mess because it's all built in. Got the new one in and the installation team started hooking things up so fast that I couldn't keep track of how fast they were working. My husband and I are not that old, but we were preparing for later days and we wanted to be able to get in our bathtub.
The team that put our tub in was outstanding. They were very friendly and outgoing. It took a full day to install and they didn't leave here until it was completely done. They also ran a cycle and made sure everything worked throughout the drain. The new tubs that they have had a hidden fee, but we couldn't ask for any better. The tub has helped a lot on my bad knees and my husband's bad knees, leg, and back. Then once you get out of the tub, the blow dryer comes on and dries the tub a few minutes later. That way, water won't set there. It dries some stuff and mold, etc. We love our tub. My oldest kids came and have taken a bath in it and they love it too. We enjoy it a lot.

American Standard walk-in tub has a warranty that extends to anyone, like when my daughter is going to inherit my house then it will go ahead and extend to her. The sales rep seemed like he knew everything, which was good since we knew nothing. Everything was good with him and the installation team. The tub takes a while to fill up if one wants to use the soaking tub. But one gets a quick shower if they want the shower.

Two guys from American Standard came and they did a great job. They didn't miss and they cleaned up their mess. They didn't leave anything hanging out or leave any kind of junk lying around. They did what they were here to do and got it done in one day. They had to put up a new door for us. It cost us, but we had to open up that door in order to get the tub in. I was very proud of them. It's easier for my husband to get a bath now. He can sit down in the tub, but it also has a shower part that you can turn on. He likes showers and I like the tub. We've been well satisfied with it and haven't had any problems.

My wife and I are disappointed with American Standard. In the advertising, they showed that this person is lying down really enjoying it. You just can't lie back in it and enjoy the water. You really have to just sit up on this thing and it's just not what it is. I wish I would have bought something better. I would have gotten a sit-down shower. Everybody that worked on it did a good job except that I just couldn't get the results that I expected. I thought that it'd be more of a relaxing type of thing and it isn't.

We looked at two or three different models and American Standard had the largest one. Since my husband is a large man, we decided to go with the larger unit. There was a bit of a disaster with the installation though. They tightened down some of the connections to the water flow too tight. It broke a pipe and we had a lot of damage in the ceiling below and had to have a lot of repairs done. But they got it all taken care of. And then, twice I've had them back out because their caulking job around the tub was not good at all. First, it was sloppy and then it popped up. And the last time, the deck popped up. I just simply glued it down myself and didn't bother to call them. Whatever that company was that installed the tub was not very efficient, but it got done.
We don't like the tub very much though. We have a very large capacity heater and because we were getting a bigger tub, we wanted confirmation that we had enough water to heat it. It turned out that the large bath was a real mistake because we can't keep the water warm in it. So, that's a real problem for us. I don't think anybody saw that through very carefully. They definitely need to know whether or not the heating system can support the tub. I didn't have any concept of how much water it was really going to take to fill it. It was a mistake all the way around. In fact, we haven't used it in months. We tried to use it a few times and it just really didn't work for us. I would never recommend this tub to anybody.

The rep came and sold me their product. The only question I had was about the toilet. I have a walnut toilet and he wasn't able to match that up which either had to be done or we won't do any toilets. But he got that answered. The installation team was on time. They did what they needed to do and had to come back the next day for an hour or so. With my walk-in tub, I don't worry about falling over the edge getting out. That's why I spent enough money to put a new room in the house. However, with the way it leans or the lack of angle, there's nothing to redirect the water back into the tub if you splash it onto the edges. So, every now and then, I end up with a wet floor even with the shower curtain in.

The workmen had pleasant personalities. They were polite and we had no trouble with them. However, my parents were a little disappointed that when you put your foot into the tub and if you hit the gasket, it comes out. Older people have a hard time stepping up and over things. And even stepping in there, the very first time they used it, they dislodged the gasket. American Standard had to come back and put the gasket in it. So, that was an issue with it that we think from a planning or design aspect, may be something they could improve.
Another thing is the gentleman who installed it jack-hammered away the tiles in the bathroom in a larger space than what the tub was going take up. So, there are spaces now where there are no tiles. My father has called on more than one occasion and American Standard said they were going to try to repair it, but they haven't followed up with it. So, there were a few things with it that didn't really go as smoothly as we would have hoped.
The tub seems to work, but from a design perspective, I don't think they had old people in mind when it's going to be in the bathroom. My parents have had difficulty trying to use the tub. It doesn't accommodate well any kind of handles. There's a door there but if you're right-handed and you're putting your hand on the door, the door has a hinge so the door is moving. That's not a stable hand-hold. On the other side, the panel sticks up with the buttons to push the light and the little jets and the air. It's a raised panel. Beside that, it's a small area that's also just a piece of plastic with square edges all the way around. There's no kind of hand-holds or handles of any kind. So, when you're trying to get in, there's nothing easy to grab onto from either side.

We responded to an ad by American Standard and their salesman came to the house. We went through the way the walk-in tub was manufactured. He represented that it was the top and it’s manufactured differently than other tubs. He was extremely knowledgeable. He also knew about the other units and had the documents and material that showed how the other units were made. He said that the American Standard tub was made with a different product that's guaranteed. It’s also warrantied for life, not only the product but any repair that would need to be made on it. And that was very significant.
They got the job done but the installation kept getting called off. It didn't take three days, but partial days for three days to get it done. The guys said the truck that had all the supplies had broken down and it was in store somewhere and they had to keep running back and forth to Home Depot. They also had to take out a piece of the wall to get the tub in. But they put that wall back better shaped than it was. They did a good job. My wife's a little stickler for stuff like that so she was checking them all the time. And they had to do some demolition with the old tub that was here to get a regular tub in. We had downsized into a patio home, so they had to carry stuff out through the stairs and through the front door. My wife was really cautioning them about messing up a wood floor. They put down paper runners and they really cleaned up after themselves when they were done.
But I would have to complain about the appearance of the workers. They were all overweight and showing butt cracks. It wasn't pleasant every time you look at them bend over to put the installs and you'd be looking at their tails. There are some clothing companies now that advertise long tails, and they cover butt cracks for plumbers. And as for the tub, the headrest was missing. We had to call American Standard to tell them it wasn't installed and they had to send that to us. We had to put it in ourselves. It was a $15,000 item, come on. It was exorbitantly priced and I wish my wife had done more shopping. The way they do it is, they won't give you a price and send you a sales rep to the house instead. Then, the salesman is pressured in to close. They didn't close me, but they closed my wife.
We've had it about six months and I've used it three times. And I'm not a fan of it. I have neuropathy from diabetes and they said that the four little air jets on the floor would massage my feet. There are two stages of turning it on, one with the water jets and the other for the air jets. The salesman made a really big deal about it. But I'm not happy about it. When I fill up the tub and use the jets, there's not enough pressure coming out of it. So, I don't get any benefit out of it.
But the big one that needs to be addressed would be the space between the tub and the wooden trim. The installers put on the trim around the top of the tub and then they caulked it. But when one gets in the tub and loads it with water, the weight pulls the tub down. So, there's a space there and water gets into that and to the wall. During the installation, they didn't have the parts. They went to Home Depot and they got a two by four. They cut that, and put that around against the wall around the top of the tub. I don't know if that's their normal sealing process. They could come and deal with it now but they wouldn't see the spacing. It's stuffed in the tub. So I got a tube of caulking myself, and when the space existed there, I put the caulking in the spacing. But when I got out of the tub and it goes back together, it pinches and pushes the caulking out. That spacing is a real irritant. And I think it's going to create other issues for me with the walls if they get wet enough. They need to do something about that.

The sales representative was fine and he was knowledgeable about their product. However, the installation team wasn't as great as we figured they would be. They were on time and did their work, but I asked them to not extend to my walls and they didn't take care of it. So, we had to get a handyman to fix it since American Standard wasn't doing it yet. Nevertheless, it's been nicer with the walk-in tub. I have bilateral knee replacements so it is nicer to be able to get in and out. We're enjoying it though it was a little more expensive than I thought it was going to be.

I had my shower in my bathtub when I ordered American Standard Walk-In Tubs. I said that I want a walk-in bathtub with a shower and they told me it's no problem. And so, after I got it installed, which was quite a bit of money, it sure didn't work. I didn't have any room to move and then, the water was on a shelf along the wall. I asked if they can put at least a little drain in there since I couldn't do it myself and I don't want to ruin a going deal. I told them a little pipe from the shower or maybe an inch longer it had to be would do. They said they're going to check that one. So far, I'm still waiting for an answer. Though they called one time and said that's the way they're made, that it's not made for a shower, that was the last I heard.
So the wall went uninstalled. It was necked up quite a bit, and I can understand that. But I was so disappointed that I couldn't get a good, decent shower. I tried showering a couple of times in there, but between the faucets and the hoses. The seat is so uncomfortable so I quit using it all together. If I had something to say to somebody, I'd tell them not to get American Standard because they won't answer and won't get back to me.

My wife had hip and knee surgery and she's enjoying soaking in the tub. It helps loosen up her joints. I've been familiar with American Standard as a trade name for quite some years. I've used some of their other plumbing products. We were doing an online search and made comparisons on user reports and evaluations of various other manufacturers' products. We decided that we were interested in the American Standard. About that time, we got an inquiry from an independent salesperson who was an associate marketer for American Standard. He came out, and we went over the product. We then did some further research. and bought and paid cash for it on the spot. I felt the salesperson was forward. He volunteered that he was not employed by American Standard and that he got a commission. I appreciated that. He also followed up and gave me the information that I needed. We were satisfied with him.
We received the tub early in December. Then we had a gentleman come and do some work. We had to do a lot of remodeling, busting out concrete flooring, and redoing plumbing. We finally got the tub all installed and it took several weeks. However, it's never been used because they were supposed to come back and put a panel on the back. Recently, I was notified that they don't have that panel anymore. They could do an extension on the back of the tub where I do have some free space. However, I'm determined that I don't want to forego that space.
I sent them a text that said to forget the panel and that I figured out a way that I'm going to do it to make it more workable. The panel's function was to protect both the electrical and the plumbing from any intrusion or something getting into the system and damaging the wiring. I can accomplish that since we totally remodeled that bathroom and enlarged it out to just over 200 square feet. We also put in the new walk-in shower and came out with new vanity. It's for my girl who is an amputee and does not have a left leg.
I really enjoyed working with working with the gentleman who came to do the service. He was quite helpful. Recently, when I talked to American Standard about the back that I've never received, they said they didn't think he's still with the company. It wasn't definitive and I'm not sure if the person to whom I was speaking with was in the position to really know.
Over time, I ended up making 10 or 12 calls back to their corporate office. The helpful gentleman whom I spoke with after that was located somewhere in the Houston, Texas area. That was their products and manufacturing division. The only downside to my contact with American Standard was that I was given a contact person, Genevieve, and I only got to speak with her once. After that, whenever I called it was either her day off or she wasn't available at the moment. So each time I spoke to a different telephone representative, it took me a while to answer their questions because they weren't familiar with the previous conversations. But overall, they were an acceptable business.

I was impressed by the easy entry, walk out, the drain time and the jets of American Standard Walk-in Baths. The sales rep that came to the house was very professional and explained it well except for the amount of hot water required. We had to put two 40 gallon water heaters in. One 40 gallon water heater will not take care of that tub. He said he warned that that might be a problem but he didn't investigate it very well.
When they installed the tub, it came to fruition that one 40 gallon tank would not handle it. It was fairly costly. It was $600 for the electricity bill and another $400 for the installation of a new water heater so about a little over a $1,000. But the installers were very good and it took two days to finish installing the tub. The tub itself works very well and it is top quality. Everything's A plus. We've had it for about three years. American Standard is a little bit pricey but I supposed that it took a little bit to put the tub together. The tub is safe and very comfortable and I highly recommend American Standard.

American Standard is a well-known source for plumbing and fixtures. I went online and discovered the person who would install it since American Standard has some written policy that requires that an American Standard factory rep or dealership do the installation as opposed to just getting Joe the plumber which led me to a company down in the Richmond, Mechanicsville, Virginia area. I was in the process of building a house and they sent a representative up there. They did a recon and an assessment of the installation. We talked about the cost and timeframe then I agreed to let American Standard install the walk-in tub.
The builder of the house wasn't involved in this at all simply because he wasn't installing it. Therefore, he wasn't providing any kind of warranty for it. So, the warranty in those kinds of matters fell to the American Standard and the installer. There was one instance where they had to send a team back from the installer out here because the tub had developed a small leak, and they had to take care of that. I had the thing installed not because I personally like walk-in tubs or even tubs. I'm actually a shower guy but I realized that I'm 79. I just moved in last December and the future value of the house, after I'm passed on and my heirs have to dispose of it, would be of much greater if it had a walk-in tub since these tubs are getting very popular.
It's not only a tub that I can sit in, but it also has a shower mode. It has a long, handheld shower nozzle and it's very nice in spraying. However, the tub is four feet high and most people are around six-foot tall. That makes the shower head well above the rim of the tub. One has to be cautious that the shower head doesn't splash water and reflect water off of the walls onto the floor. Maybe a specially tailored shower door that would go from the top of the tub up to seven feet high would be a solution for that to improve it.
Nevertheless, I have used the tub a few times and it meets my expectations. It has got a few features that every tub doesn't have. It has got all of the Jacuzzi features that bubble the water, spray, pressurize and massage. It also got a recirculating heater so that the water doesn't sit there and get progressively cold. It has a pump that empties tub so that one doesn't have to sit there and wait for it to gravity drain. It gets empty so that the door can be opened to step out fairly quick and that's very convenient.

The people who installed the tub also seemed professional and seemed to know what they were doing. The only problem I have now is on the bottom long door, on the outside of the tub, there is a white bar that holds the door in place but the white strip is not holding the door and the door keeps popping open. They also gave me little beads to put in the cup on top and I'm supposed to be able to turn that on then it's supposed to shoot out colors but those are not the things that come through. It’s not an important thing to me but it is not working right. Nevertheless, I’m enjoying the tub. I’m not a shower person but I can sit in there comfortably and be relaxed. I love the tub and the jet and it also empties fairly fast.

We thought we could put shampoo on the back of the tub but he didn't say that we couldn't put things there. It turned out that there was nothing that would hold it.
I got a gadget to pick all the pieces up the floor behind the tub. I then cut out some wood to fit it down to the floor and put a piece across the top so it keeps holding a stand on that if we want to. The installers could have done that. The other thing that we were disappointed in was they had to take the door frame out to get the tub in and then do it so they scratched the paint off of the wall. The American Standard sales reps gave me some sort of a discount and then later told me that it has a self water heater. It was appealing and it made sense for people who can't get in and out of tubs. I got the 50-gallon tub and by the time I fill it up with 30 gallons, I will have no hot water to set a temperature for the controller anymore. It doesn't have adequate reheating or maintaining a temperature ability. I have one of those quick-heating units which costs about $1000. It just heats the water up for the moment. So, that's slightly overpriced. Also, it's slate, and not fiberglass. It appears to be much more of quality and it's gigantic in the bathroom. There's no shower curtains constructed for that particular unit, too. But other than that, it's fairly adequate for its set-up.
The craftsman who put it in did a pretty good job. It helps caring for my cancer. So, I'm in the process of trying to deal with that and trying to get the water heater hooked up. I've only used it once when I was with cold water. I couldn't recommend it though because it's a high-cost item and not many people are going to buy it. For the amount of money that entails you to put out a Jacuzzi outside, those things go in hot and stay hot because of the direct heating unit that's connected with those.

The first time I used it, it was too cold and there wasn't enough hot water. I called him and I told him and he said we could put a booster on it. So he sends out two people who don't have names and don't belong to a company. They came and said they don't have the right kind of pipes and they disappeared. They came back with something that looks like medusa's head and they put it on there. It's not even a booster. They lied.
I woke up in the morning. It's very hot in my house and the air conditioner was open. The floor was flooded, the bedroom was flooded and the walls were peeling off. I was hysterical so I opened the phonebook and got the first plumber I could find just to get the water out before the mold starts to grow and I reported it to the party that was concerned. The guy who put it in was trying to be sweet and honey, and I turned sour. He asked why was I being mean and I told him that I have a brand new house.
The company that insures my house fixed all the stuff that had to be done immediately. Restoration came out and everything was completed. Now, when you shut it off, the faucet leaks so, we called the plumber back because the guy who sold it to me would not come near me because he knew he screwed up. The plumber comes back and he needed to get a whole new part from American Standard. He was very nice and fixed it. It's a brand new tub that's broken. I don't know what else is going to go wrong. It took all the joy out of it and it's so sour in my mouth that I really hate to use it.
The president was calling me on a Saturday afternoon and I thought they would be nice about it because he even asked me what would be a good settlement for me. I said that he owns the company and it's up to them but they never gave me a dime. They should have done something to compensate me for the hell I went through and I didn't want to sue them. They were calling left and right and they were so afraid I was going to because I have a huge lawsuit. I told them to take the tub and I didn't want it. It would be nice if they send me a $12,000 check. I'm about to sell this house and I'm going to be moving in about five to six months in another house. I don't want any of this repeated to the new owners because it's not their business. It's been a nightmare and I would never, ever recommend American Standard to anybody.

I asked the American Standard salesperson how long it'll take to install the tub and he said two days. And then, I asked him the price, he said $13,000. I went along with that because I said, "Well, two days. It got to be it." But when they got the payment, they were here no more than four hours. That kind of threw me off because if he had said $13,000, which it got to be 4 hours, then I would have said that was too much. That's the only negative that I have about it. Other than that, everything is fine. The installation team, two fellows, worked quickly and they did a nice job. And the tub was perfect. It's nice for me and wife, we're elderly people. We don't worry about falling or anything.

I had a fall in the bath tub so I called a local company. They said they had a walk-in tub but when they got here, it was a walk-in shower so I called American Standard. The sale was wonderful. The home sales rep explained everything and brought the samples in. However, the ones that put the walk-in tub were horrible. They ruined my trim and my door. The home sales rep brought a carpenter that he got from his own home to fix my house. I won't recommend American Standard, it's too harsh to have your tub put in.

The American Standard Walk-In Tub has allowed me to take a bath by myself and to be more free with it because before I just couldn't get in and out of the bathtub which was great because I'm old. I've had it for a year. Also, their sales rep were nice and their installers were great.

We bought American Standard Walk-in Bath a couple of months ago but I was disappointed because it wasn’t as advertised on TV wherein it shows the bubbles come up around the chest and neck. When I got in it and sit in the tub, it barely came above my waist. I even tried scrooching way down below the seat and still, it didn’t cover me, and I’m not fat. I’ve only used it once and it drained my hot water heater and the water went cold before it got filled up, and we have a 50-gallon gas hot water heater. I used it but I’m sure it would have been much better with warmer water. When we get some money saved up, we'll call the guy that originally installed the hot water heater and see if he has got anything like a hot water on-demand or something and see what we can do with that. We liked the idea that it is American made however, the price was a bit more than what we have anticipated. $15,000 was a big investment for something that we can’t really use.

I'd like to have a walk-in bath even though I don't really need it. I chose American Standard, and interacting with the sales and went very good, and so did installation. American Standard has done very well.

We are in a mobile home and the salesman didn't do the measuring right. It would have been nicer if the salesman had the right information for the installers. Because of the wrong dimensions, I lost the tiles that I had put up on my wall. The installers had to do a lot of work, but they were fantastic and they did a great job. My American Standard walk-in tub has been wonderful and my favorite features are the hot water and bubbles.
