I purchased a 42-inch Phillips 42PF9631D. After two years of having the TV, a red blinking light appeared. The TV no longer turns on. Thousands of people have had this problem. After calling customer service several times with no responses or help, I am so fed up and am very willing to start a class action lawsuit with all unsatisfied consumers. Philips should pay for selling a defective piece of garbage.

About two years ago, I purchased a Philips 50 inch plasma TV with ambilight for a little over $2000. Two years later, it wouldn't turn on, blinking red lights on indicator, unplugged it several times and now picture is real dark. What I have read and peppered throughout the internet, there are known issues with Philips TVs. I called Philips consumer care and they basically hung me out to dry. It took me two years to pay for this TV and as soon as it's paid off, it breaks. I couldn't afford the extended warranty on this set which would have been around $500.

In 2006, I purchased a Philips 50" Ambilight Plasma TV that no longer works. Model/Type 50PF9631D/37, SN YA1B0628037068. It started shutting off and restarting on its own after the first 3 months we had the TV. I figured maybe it was just a remote transmission issue and it wasn't too inconveniencing, until two months ago, it started shutting down and then red lights with a series of intermittent flashes, 6 flashes followed by three rapid flashes.
At first, I was able to unplug the unit for several seconds and plug back in, then the TV worked fine. The problem progressed to the current state in which it is totally non-functioning. I purchased this unit at an approximate cost of $2,800.00 + tax (I'll have to locate the receipt for exact cost), but it is crazy to think you make such investment for so little use. At this rate, having a TV would cost me $1,120/year and subject myself to major back injuries having to replace the thing.

42" Plasma Philips TV, model 42PF5321D/37. 22 months later, the set failed. No picture. I contacted Philips. They sent a local repair serviceman out to inspect the set. He said that several circuit boards needed to be replaced due to failure. After three plus weeks, I was called and told that the parts were on back order. Three months later, I received a call from someone in Philips that they were going to replace the set.

This TV bought in January 2006 has been a complete waste of money. I bought it at Sam's Club in Columbus, Ohio for $1999 plus tax. It is a complete disappointment to think that over $2000 has been spent on something that is now left us with only one option--trash it. The screen goes black with lines going across it, and when I phoned customer service regarding the problem for advice, they replied with "These TVs do this."
How appalling it is for Phillips to still sell this product as well as Sam's Club to keep it on their shelves for loyal customers to purchase, when Phillips and their customer service employees admit, as they did to me on Friday, May 29, that the product is a lemon. I am completely unsatisfied and asked that the company stand behind this product and pay for it to be serviced. The customer service rep offered me a $20 loyalty coupon to replace the TV. I could not believe the audacity of the supervisor Aaron to offer such a small sum compared to what I spent to purchase the TV. Please help me rectify this situation as a consumer of both Sam's Club and Phillips.

I bought a Philips 42" Plasma TV in 2003. After the year's warranty expired, I then purchased 2 consecutive 3-year warranties totaling $3,300. In March, the TV fell into disrepair. The service technician said he couldn't repair it. He also informed me that the TV was manufactured in 1993! That means it was 10 years old when I bought it. Service Net is contracted by Philips for the extended warranties. Service Net will honor the warranty and provide me with a "new" TV. My concern is this: how old can a TV be and still be considered "new"? I've been informed that accepting the "new" TV will void my current warranty which still has 18 months left.

Our 52" Philips TV stopped working after a year and a half; it’s blinking red lights. We paid it around $1,600 at Sears. We just had a technician today, and he ordered a part for me (power supply board). Total cost should be around $520 with 90-day warranty. After reading these comments, I'm thinking about canceling my order.

My husband and I bought a 42" flat screen plasma TV. It's not even 3 years old, but all of a sudden, it went off. Also, the LCD light went from green to flashing red. I have called Philips numerous times to find out if there is a recall on the TV and they told me no. I have talked to many service reps and have been told different stories. This TV cost us nearly $2,500 and Philips can't help. But they want us to have a service repair person to look at it; it will cost anywhere from $109 to $150 just for a service call. That's not including parts and labor. You would think that with the way the economy is now, companies would do what they can to help. I will contact Channel 2 News to let them know what kind of company Philips is and what crappy products they make. I have read several complaints on this website and I don't see Philips trying to recall this type of TV. I will never buy this type of TV made by this company.

I purchased a Philips TV model #47PFL3603D/27 in September of 2008 and paid around $1500 for the unit. We put the unit in our upstairs office area and only used the TV on the weekends for upstairs retreats to watch football games. We noticed early on that the TV was having some sound problems and about every 45 minutes, a loud static noise would come over the TV. Initially, we thought it might be a Dish Network problem and called Dish who told us to simply turn off the TV and Dish and power back up. This worked fine but, after a while, it became annoying so we had a Dish repair person visit our home who said we should try a new HDMI cable. We tried this and the problem persisted.
We called Dish back and they came back out to our home to say it was not a Dish issue, for us to contact who we bought the TV from. We contacted Target who would not accept the unit as a return because it was now past the 90 days. As a result, we contacted Philips who put us in touch with a repair center in Dallas. The repair center picked up the TV and had it for three weeks before they diagnosed the problem. For an additional 2-3 weeks, the replacement part was on back order.
I grew tired of using the repair center as a go between and contacted Philips Consumer Affairs department directly. I was told that policy stated the TV must be in the repair shop for 21 days before a part can be ordered. After appealing to the manager of that department, I was told that I would receive a call from another department in 36 hours. Of course, the call never came and I had to repeatedly make calls to Consumer Affairs. Once I was reached by customer relations, I was told that they had to wait another two days to see if they could find the part. Two days later, there was no call. I called every day until I got an answer - the part would be another five weeks. I refused to be without the unit for that much longer and they agreed to replace the unit in approximately 10 days.
I was so emotionally tired of this situation and was so relieved to feel like the issue was resolved ... until the unit arrived at my house yesterday as a refurbished unit that was not even the same as the old one. When I called Customer Relations to tell them I never agreed to a refurbished replacement, they said it's in the warranty fine print and that if the TV works, then I should have nothing to complain about. Please, please, please! Do not purchase a Philips brand product! This has caused emotional chaos and exhaustion in my everyday life for over six months and has affected my family life. I have had to take numerous days off work to have TVs picked up, delivered, and for visits from the satellite company, yet the issue is still not resolved. Essentially, I am being punished for making what was obviously a poor purchase. Do not let this happen to you!

I bought a 50-inch plasma model 50MF231D in 1/07. In 4/09, it would not turn on anymore. I got the green light at first, then the dreaded four blinks of red repeatedly. I unplugged and replugged several times and that worked for about another 2-3 days. Now completely dead. I will never buy another product from this company again. I am hopeful for legal action based on the numerous complaints. It is obvious there is a known defect with these TVs. I lost the $1,300 purchase price, plus had to buy a replacement set (different brand) for $900.

I bought a Philips 42'' plasma TV back in March '07. Lately, the TV doesn't want to come on anymore. I get a series of four red blinking lights and it doesn't come on. I have been reading all the complaints that a lot of people have with this product. I can't figure out why it hasn't been recalled. I kept getting the extended warranty from Philips. We move from our previous address and we never got a renewal letter from Philips, so my wife called and told them about our problem with the warranty. They told her that they didn't send an invitation to renew our warranty. I think that they knew about all the problems people had with this product and didn't want to deal with this anymore.

My TV went out. I had purchased it at Sam's in Victoria, and afterwards received a letter in the mail for a service contract for 5 years, and I purchased it. I later received a letter for a warranty on the picture tube which I also purchased for 5 years. I put both contracts in a drawer and thought that I would never use them. Today, I called the service department. They told me both contracts were for the picture tube and I would have to find a service man to take care of it because the contract did not cover the service, only the picture tube. They then told me that I had purchased 2 contracts for the same thing. They have drawn interest on that money for 2 years and they cannot even find me a service man. I really thought Philips was a better company. They did offer to refund my money on the contract, without interest of course.

Last night, my Philips 42-inch plasma, model # 42PF7320A/37, stopped working. It shut down and the red light now flashes 7 times. Last week while watching a movie, the display blanked out several times but came back on but, now, nothing happens except the flashing light. I got pretty dismayed seeing all the other complaints and how unsuccessful the repairs have been, if at all. I thought I was getting a good deal when I found it on sale for $1200, marked down from $1800, back in Mar. 2007, but little did I know. Maybe they knew something then?

I bought my Philips 42 inch flat screen from Circuit City in September of 2006, and it is a goner 30 short months later. When I would go turn it on in the morning, it would blink red. I would unplug and re-plug it and voila! It worked. That lasted for 3 days. Now, even re-plugging will not help - just a series of 4 flashing lights is all the entertainment I get from that thing hanging on my wall. I did my internet research on how to fix it. Jury's out, but also sounds like I am out $2500.

I bought a Philips 42-inch plasma TV from Costco wholesale in September of 2006 for a little over $1,300. Within three months the TV developed a blue line on the far right of the screen from top to bottom. Costco said it was out of their hands and to contact the MFG. Philips Electronics said that they would repair it but shipping would have to come out of our pocket. So, we decided to leave it as is for the high cost of shipping the TV. It worked fine although distracting until 4-2-09 when the TV would not turn on, just a green light followed by seven flashes of red. So, for $1,300 we got a little over two years use out of the TV. That's $650 every 15 months. I will never buy from either Costco or Philips again!

Again, another problem with their 42-inch plasma TV. Product was purchased in October of 2006 along with a 15-inch LCD TV. Last month, the 15-inch broke, not worth fixing so I just purchased another TV and did not complain. Now my big plasma will not come on. After researching the internet, I realize they have a big problem with these sets concerning the SSB card failing and causing the TV to go to a blank screen. They know about the problem and will not fix it. These sets should be recalled and the faulty cards replaced. I will never purchase another Philips product and will warn any consumer I see looking at a Philips product at a store I may be visiting. In addition, I am looking into some type of legal action with our state's AG.

In Dec. 2006 we bought a 42" Magnavox Plasma TV from Home Depot for $1000.00. In October 2007 (10 month old TV) half of our TV screen started going black. After many phone calls to Magnavox, they finally told us to take it to a repair shop in San Diego. We live 600 miles south of the U.S. in Baja, Mexico, so in November some of our visitors took it to San Diego. It took over 2 months for the various parts to come in ("on order", "backlogged", "en route") were common statements-- really, if they told you up front to wait 3 months, it would be more honest. I offered to pay for the item to be overnighted from anywhere in the world and was told this was impossible. We were counting on friends to bring the TV back, so it was imperative that it get fixed in a timely manner. Well, it eventually was fixed and returned.
Here we are now, October 2008 and I am sure you can guess why I am writing at this time-- it's a no brainer. The TV is now erratically going silent and erratically going completely black. And what did the ever so kind customer service woman Nikita tell me this morning ?????? You guessed it Watson-- the TV is no longer under warranty...
Will we ever buy a Magnavox/Phillips again? I think NOT. I read on another comment that Circuit City is no longer carrying the line due to these complaints -- I intend to write to Home Depot and Walmart to recommend the same line of action. We would love to participate in a class action suit and intend to file a small claims suit once we are back in the States, asking for full restitution. I cannot imagine why this TV was not recalled and damages fully covered. What is this company thinking ???? ?

Now this week, the TV will not turn on at all. We called Philips customer service. They told us there are no service centers in our state and they would not cover it anyway since the warranty expired. The repairing store then informed me it might take up to a month for them to be able to get the TV working. So I called in and asked them if they had any loaner program and the answer was an absolutely rude NO. They are not friendly, nor do they care about their customers. The repairing company also told me it takes them forever to get in touch with them about the replacement parts. I think it is ridiculous how they treat consumers. The minute you buy their product and walk out the store, you are on your own, because they certainly would not help you with your issues. Their TV was not half bad, quality wise, till it breaks down. Once it is broken, good luck in finding help. I intend to use my newspaper source and internet news source to let people stay away from their product. At least the high-priced TV's.

What a joke they are! I started this claim on September 8th and here we are on October 1st and no resolve. I have called every day and they tell me the part I need is on back order until 10/26 which is unacceptable to go that long with no TV. Every time I call the service center at Circuit City, I talk to a different person and they seem to be stalling me until the part comes in or so they don't have to replace my TV. They act like it is no big deal that you spent thousands of dollars at their store and now they want to weasel out. After getting nowhere with C.C., I decided to call Philips directly and the lady tells me that we are moving parts buildings and the parts have not been scanned into the new warehouse yet! There is a back order and there is nothing I can do. I don't see where that is my problem at all. I feel I have done everything right and you still get the run around.
