We purchased a 42' LCD Emerson TV on Black Friday of 2010. Late this June (only 7 months ago), we started having problems with the TV. While watching, the screen would turn completely black and we would only be able to hear the sound. We would shut if off for a while and turn in back on and it would be okay for a day or two.
On July 9, 2011 the screen went black and stayed that way, and had a very strong burning smell. We unplugged the TV and called Walmart since we purchased the TV there. We were told if we did not purchase the extended warranty, we needed to call the manufacturer despite the fact that inside the box, when we purchased the TV, was a "Limited One Year Warranty" issued with the "Walmart" logo printed at the top. We called Emerson the same day and was given a claim # and an appointment date for the following Tuesday for a technician to come out and look at the TV. We got a call from the repair shop on Monday, they asked us to describe the problem and when we did, they advised it was not necessary for a technician to come out. They said they knew what the problem was and they would be ordering the replacement part which would take 3-5 business days.
There have been several calls to Emerson since that day. Each time we were given different information, including 3 different dates that the part was mailed, we were told the part was probably on back order, and so on. When we finally spoke to a supervisor (Rick), we asked him to provide the tracking # if the part had actually been shipped. Of course, he could not find the tracking # in the system. This was on 8/1/11. Rick said that he would be forwarding this issue to the "service solution" department and we would hear something in 3-5 business days.
We will be calling tomorrow but are not expecting anything good to come from the conversation. It is a crime how these companies can get away with robbery. I am not sure how this will turn out; however, I do know that someone is going to honor the One Year Manufacturer's Warranty in one way or the other because our claim is within the scope of the 1 year time frame.

I purchased an Emerson LCD 42" at Wal-Mart on Black Friday. It has been less than a year and my TV stopped working. You could hear the sound but it has no picture. I called Emerson and they sent a technician. Apparently, the light went out on the TV. I had to wait two weeks for the repair because the part was back ordered.
It's a shame that products are not made as they used to be. I have a Daewoo and Sanyo that are both over 13 years old and they are still working great.

I purchased an Emerson HD flat screen TV in January with additional warranty. Three weeks ago (today is 06/30/11), it stopped working. It turns on and the screen flashes red, yellow, blue and green, repeatedly. It won't turn off without unplugging it. The last time I tried it, it smelled like something was burning, so I unplugged it and have left it off since.
Customer service will not honor warranty, or another representative will tell me it will cost me. It is five months old, with light use. If everyone would contact http://www.milberg.com/ with me, maybe we could start a class action suit. You can email like I did. If we unite against this company, we can do something. There are so many of us who have had problems with these televisions for several years, so it looks like they are knowingly doing this.
Isn't that against some kind of law?!

I purchased 32-inch LCD Emerson TV on March 18, 2010 and last month, it started changing channels and the volume would go up and down all by itself. I purchased the warranty (one year) but of course, it is just over one year. Research shows it has to do with the switch on the motherboard. To fix, it would cost almost twice what I paid for it. This is what these big companies do to the average consumer. They get their money and don't stand behind their product. No wonder this whole nation is going downhill! I went in to Best Buy and they don't even carry Emerson anymore. I will not do anything about it and Emerson could care less. This TV was for my disabled mother and we don't have the funds to fix it or replace it. After countless hours and stress, I just don't have the energy to fight it anymore.

I bought a TV--LCD 37" MODEL# LC320EM8-EMERSON, from Walmart in 2009. It is fairly a new TV. For the last couple of months, this TV is showing colored lines along the screen. I had a local TV technician look at it. He told me that it was a manufacturer's defect. Now, the TV has several lines. I have been calling Emerson at their listed phone number, 888-290-0871. They don't even answer their phones. I have to hold for several hours. With this level of customer service, and the ** products they are distributing, I want to know who is keeping them in business. If I had known of the faulty products Emerson is selling, I would have never bought anything from them; but I will make sure my friends and family do not go anywhere near their products.

I purchased on 5/15/2010 a 32-inch Emerson TV model LC320EM1. The TV immediately gave me issues since letters and numbers began to run across the screen. It would stop. Though it would happen regularly, sometimes it happened and sometimes it didn't. So since everything is computer-ran nowadays, I ignored it. Well, my TV started shutting down about around Easter, April 2011. It would then come back on. It worked okay in May. But it has cut off twice this June.
It happened last week and after unplugging, trying a different outlet, powering it off and on, it finally came on. Yesterday afternoon, 6/18/2011 about 12:45, I was watching TV, it shuts off. I tried several times turning it off and on, no luck. I called Emerson, spoke to Dennis, the rep. He says the product was manufactured March 2010. I purchased the TV in May 2010. The warranty expired March 2011. He asked if I'd unplugged the TV. I responded, yes. He asked if had I waited over a minute to plug it back in since that usually resets the TV. He says, "You usually have to turn it on and off at least 15 times sometimes before it resets." I advised that I'd waited longer than that and still it would not come on.
I advised him that the when I would power on the TV, the green light would blink several times and then go back to red, standby mode. I asked if anyone has ever called with the same issues and what is usually the reason for the TV not coming back on. Dennis stated, "Yes, we've had several calls on this issue. It usually is the powerboard that needs to be replaced." I asked him what is the recourse, but he stated that they will usually replace/repair it within the warranty. But since I am no longer covered, I have to take it to get serviced. He provided me with an address and telephone of an authorized service/repair shop in my area of North Augusta SC. Oddly enough, there is only one. They're closed on the weekends.
Though Dennis stated that he wouldn't know the price of the repair. Understanding Dennis' job as a CSR since I am one myself, he could only do but so much. I never gave him a hassle. I just thanked him and disconnected. Since today is now Sunday and I cannot take it in to the service/repair shop until Monday, I'm without a TV and then still until they give me a resolution on price on the repair, I'm left with Emerson's junk

I purchased an Emerson 42 LCD TV on 11/27/10, which worked for one week. I called cable three times and stated TV was broken. I called Emerson at 1-800-242-7158. After numerous requests and evasiveness, part is on back orders.
I am stuck for six months with a broken TV. I demand my money back. The inverter cable kit is melted inside of one week. I want this junk out of my house and money returned in my hand when they come to get this junk.
I have been sleeping on my living room floor for six months to watch TV. Their TV is in my bedroom: no satisfaction at all! I paid to have it delivered to me. This is a factory mass production defect. I spent $80.00 for pillows to lie on the floor and $456.33 for gas. I experienced mental anguish and disgust. I bought two 32" Emerson LCD TV for my two girls, 8 and 9 years old for Christmas, at Walmart on December 2010. Here it is, almost five months later, and I just had my 9-year-old stop working. It goes to standby and power light being on together, but no picture. Walmart will do nothing being outside of the 3-month return policy, and from what I've read, Emerson does not back their defective products that they mass produce.
Now I have a sad 9-year-old, and probably a sad 8-year-old, in the next few months, when hers stops working. It's $600 worth of disappointment. Thanks Emerson for your faulty products.

They actually wanted me to pay $150 to get this TV fixed when I paid $200 for it in the first place! I said, "No! I refuse to pay that!" They told me me $75 would do.
I still find this hard to believe. I even bought an extended warranty from Walmart but they won't cover anything until the manufacturers' warranty is done. I'm so frustrated at this point. I feel as though since this is a know problem that they should be recalling this TV. What about a class action law suit?

I bought a television from Emerson. The unit had a one year warranty. On the anniversary of the one year, the unit stopped working. I contacted Emerson and they told me to fax them a copy of the receipt. I was unable to locate my receipt but I went to the store (Walmart) where the item was purchased and they gave me a print-out from their systems. Emerson is refusing to take the receipt because they state that it does not show a price. The information from Walmart shows the product that was purchased, the date, and the store.
This is becoming a hassle because Walmart said that because I did not pay with a credit card, it was the only invoice they could duplicate. I need help.

We have called Emerson several times who state that we need to take it to get serviced as it is under warranty. However, everywhere we call states they are no longer willing to service Emerson's under warranty. I'm so frustrated. Is there nothing we can do? Even the darn Emerson's website seems to be faulty. The DirecTV box attached the to Emerson TV started shocking anyone who touched it (of course, we unplugged it immediately) and the surge protector the television was plugged into was fried and the outlet itself shorted out.
Wal-Mart has been very accommodating and cooperative. They have been great. DirecTV boxes and system was fried. The surge protector was fried. The outlet was fried and two fuses were blown. I purchased a small Emerson very portable Combo TV when visiting my brother down in NM about 2001 to use to carry in my RV as I traveled. As life changed, I kept the TV in my office. Played great, great pix and sound -- no problems! Better than the flat screen I bought this year, 2010 which I just sent in for repair, sound is terrible, takes for-forever to change channels, etc, etc, etc! This week, when I hooked the older, little TV up to my little Roku Netflix player, to save funds on utilities, the TV will now only play the Roku stuff! Can not change from Roku selection!
I even Tried disconnecting all of the wires and it 'seemed to remember' the little player. I know the TV has no memory, but, with no wired connection to the Roku, it still did not play the cable shows. I now can not even use it to see regular TV on it -- and, the big problem is the Netflix movies have horrible color; the little TV had great color last week and the volume is better than the new flat screen I just purchased earlier this year - 2010. After hooking up to the Roku, the TV seems to need 'degassing' -- it did have great color in the office just last week! Crazy!

And to have the labor done on the TV to the repair center recommended by Emerson would charge me 200.00. That's a little more than what I purchased the TV for originally.
I'm disappointed that Emerson would only cover labor within the first 90 when the store would return the TV within that time period. I'm not satisfied with the service from manufacturer. I purchased a Emerson 32" flat screen television about a year ago it worked fine then I get up in the morning and try and turn it on and it goes to the green power light for about a second then straight back to the red standby light. Then I start researching this and find out that it has happened to numerous people, I mean there should be a recall on this product if something in the TV is defected and the problem continues to happen.
I don't make a lot of money so I was very proud that I was able to purchase this television and after almost a year it quits working it just makes you aggravated that they would continue to sale a product that is defected and with all the complaints that I have read I am sure they are aware about the problem.

We purchased an Emerson 19” LCD with DVD player attached only about six months ago. Today, it turned off. When attempting to push the “on” button, it stays green for about two seconds then immediately turns back to stand-by or immediately turns off. The screen does not turn on and it makes a slight static noise. We, like most people, have paid a hefty price for this TV and it should be covered by Emerson, no matter what. I see that many people have this similar problem and I feel horrible for blaming my son for what happened, when it is really because Emerson does not make quality products.

In September 2008, I bought an Emerson 19" digital LCD TV (LC195EM9 B) online from WalMart. It didn't work, which should have been my first clue. I spent a lot of time on the phone with tech support and was told I got a lemon but I could return it to the nearest WalMart and just trade it out. So I did trade it out with no problem. Everything was fine until 18 months later when I turned on the TV and nothing happened! Occasionally, I turn it on to see if it might work. I threw it away today.
I got it on sale for around $200. It isn't worth it to pay for repairs, especially because the unit wasn't even worth the original sale price. The sound was so tiny, it sounded like a transistor radio. I say good riddance to bad rubbish, and I will never buy anything Emerson again! Five months after purchasing a 19" LCD-DVD flat screen TV, the green and red indicator lights began flashing and the picture went out while watching it. It then began to make a continuous high pitched whining noise. It still makes this noise unless unplugged. It has not worked since. This seems to be a common occurrence with their products and they seem to have to take no responsibility making TVs that don't last a reasonable amount of time! We actually purchased 2 of these at Christmas for our children. How long before the next one goes out?
The TV was $200. Walmart, where it was purchased, only honors returns for 90 days on electronics. Then the consumer must "work with" the manufacturer. Fine if you actually could get in touch with them. What can be done? This company has to know they are stealing hard-working people's money. I guess they won't stop until they have to.

They said they would get back to me in a few days and give me a repair shop to go to. I finally got someone to call me back and they gave me a repair shop, Chaparral Electronics, Upland Dr., Houston, TX and I took my set to them on 11/6/09. Today is June 8, 2010 and I have yet to get my TV back from Chaparral. Every time I call, they say they are ordering a part, just ordered a part, or waiting to get a part in. I have been calling the warranty service company, 866-309-8819, but they say they can't help me, that I've got to call the repair shop.
As you can see, all I'm getting is finger pointing back and forth. The last person I spoke with at the warranty company said he personally would see that on Monday, June 7th, I would either get my TV back repaired or I would receive a new one. That didn't happen. He didn't call me on Monday. I called him today and again he said the part is on order and I should call the repair shop if I wanted my TV back. As you can imagine, I am at the end of my rope. None of the other TVs suffered any damage. I called Emerson but was left on "ignore" indefinitely. I am truly worried because just this past
Nov, we purchased a 32in TV for our room, again an Emerson from Walmart's black Friday sale. How long will it be before it goes ka-put and we are out the $$$ on that as well. Unbelievable that Emerson will not back their products, especially if they know that there is a problem, and it certainly seems that way. The only major "damage" is that our consumers are being treated this way by once again, a major corporation. It is unfair as a consumer to put your faith and loyalty in a product/company only to have them turn their backs on the people who trust them to supply a quality product.

Even though they can see that this has happened before and it is not a problem that I caused it is a defect in their TV's! Which is ridiculous! So I decided to call around to see how much it would cost to fix this problem and everyone I have talked to has said it would take anywhere from $200 to $300 to fix! Seriously? That is more than the TV is worth. It makes absolutely no sense as to why this TV has not been recalled because everyone has had this problem! And I believe that the company should fix the defect if it occurs at any point in time not just if it is under their 90 day labor warranty or their 1 year parts warranty! The owner's manual said if there is a break in power to unplug it for 30 minutes to allow it to reset. There was no break in power, as it was plugged into the surge protector strip with the computer and DVD player but we tried leaving it unplugged for two hours.
Still nothing. I called the customer service number on the owner's manual and spoke with Valerie in customer service. She was rude at best and told me I needed to talk with the warranty department and she gave me another number to call. I called that number which is for "level 2 customer service" with Funai Electric and ended up leaving a message. It is a nice looking TV and I really don't watch it that often, but when I did, it had a nice picture and good sound. I had it on one night and it just up and turned itself off and wouldn't turn back on.
All that happens now when the power button is pressed, is the green indicator light blinks and about 2 seconds later, it makes a high pitch squeal of sorts and then turns to the red indicator and goes back to the standby mode. I unplugged the TV for a while, tried different plugs, even unplugged the cable and still nothing works. I called the manufacturer and the woman that answered said it was out of warranty, and that was all she could do.
She didn't offer a solution except to say I could try to take it back to Walmart for an exchange, which without a box or receipt, they won't take it either. She did say that she had heard it had happened a couple of times prior, but there was no further attempts to make it 'better'. Now I am out a TV and in financial situation to afford anything else. I am writing this on behalf of my soon-to-be husband. We have been together for ten years. When he finally felt we were financially secure and able to keep our house, he finally bought his self one thing: an Emerson HDTV, model LC320EMX. This man has purchased absolutely nothing for his self in the past five years, not even clothes! He purchased this television on August 3, 2009.
Since then, he has barely watched it and neither have I, since we have spent the last 6 months trying to find a way to keep all of his professional equipment on our own property! He worked all his life to obtain everything he has. Last Tuesday, he suffered a massive stroke.
I am so very sick over this one last thing, this $400 tv he purchased from Wal-mart in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Both the manager there, Robert **, and the assistant manager, "David," who refused to give his last name, were inconsiderate and said the same thing that Emerson customer support said, "You should have purchased the extended warranty." On the Emerson website, "Wal-mart" is listed as "a featured partner' for the "excellent technology and the highest of quality" Emerson HDTV, "providing customers with high quality products at an affordable price."
David assured me he would contact Emerson and work it out and call me by the end of the day. He did not, and there was no message on my answering machine or a telephone call from the store on the caller ID on my telephone. I almost vomited in my car on the way home from the rehabilitation and recovery center he is in, after hearing him trying to tell me he couldn't wait to come home and watch "his new TV," since the TV in his room doesn't have a remote that works.
I have read so many of the complaints on this site about the Emerson TVs, all with similar model numbers, and our TV does the same exact thing... just stopped turning on. The green light flashes for a second or two, but it never comes on and the light goes back to red. The red light stays on, even if I unplug it for an hour.
What's next? Will this defective piece of junk burn down our home before he gets better? The customer support tech at Emerson, who was also inconsiderate, told me it was a defect in one of their own part in the power center of the TV. The reference number he gave was **, so that I could tell the "local" authorized repair center that's an hour away from me and so they would know what part to replace. But I'd have to pay for the labor which the tech said "shouldn't take more than three hours to replace" at a cost of anywhere from $50 to $75 per hour. Funny how the Emerson tech support representatives know which part number is defective and how long it will take to replace and how much it will cost. Has anyone else noticed this?
The Emerson HDTV, model # LC320EMX was puchased from Wal-mart, the same "distributor" that many of the other complaints have mentioned. Also funny how many of the other complaints have received no assistance from the Wal-mart stores. I can't help but wonder how and why the results of many of the problems have similar outcomes. Also, I wonder how and why Wal-mart aggressively advertised the Emerson televisions. Maybe Emerson and Walmart are "friends."
I've shopped at Walmart in Ny, NC, Vt, and now Florida: almost always they will give a refund, exchange, or store credit for a product, even when you've lost the receipt. Now all of a sudden, we are all immediately turned away as soon as they find out it's an Emerson TV. In fact, that is the first question the Wal-mart manager asked me: "What brand of television is it? " When I replied "Emerson," he said, "Oh." I asked him if he needed the model number, and he said, "No, that's not necessary."

I can't afford to drop $60-$70 or even $$500 every time something breaks. The point of this purchase for us was to upgrade and the price was decent.
However, I would've spent and extra $100 on a Vizio by Sony instead which are now top of the line! Walmart will not exchange or return the TV because it's been a year and we no longer have the box or receipt. I do however have bank record of the purchase. I still have not even had a response with Emerson since I complained on their website. Frustrated and stressed about how we are going to come up with another $500-$900 for a new TV! I am using my daughters 13" Spongebob TV right now.

Another unfortunate individual who purchased a lemon Emerson TV from the giant Walmart. Emerson offers no help or recourse, other than to give you the address and phone number of the closest repair shop. The TV was working fine for almost two years. Then, when it was turned off, it's now dead to the world. I understand warranty periods. However, when this many people have the same complaint about the same product--it's not right, warranty period or not. I did write a letter to a group online just called Class Action Attorneys. I also wrote Walmart to advise them about it.
Walmart has forgotten that their success has been built on the backs of working people that have believed in them. I do know that if Mr. Sam were alive, this would not be allowed to continue and somehow, things would've been made right. To further rub salt in the wound and to show Walmart's complete disregard for their customers, visit their website and check out flat screen TVs. Keep paging down and they are again offering Emerson TVs for sale! This is the height of hypocrisy. I remarked to them that I expect no fruition from my complaint or action. I called customer service for Emerson on back of TV. They said it has a one year warranty and since I called on 2/19/2010, it was expired and there was nothing they can do.
We paid $460 for this TV for one year use? Unbelievable. And I have read there are people everywhere having this problem but Emerson refuses to back up their products. Customer service told us to take it to a repair dealer. Should I have to pay to have it repaired after one year? Unlike most of the people complaining, mine's been working but it does not get a signal when trying to watch TV from an antenna. I live in a rural area and my old TV worked flawlessly. I want what I paid for it back! This 575 dollar piece of crap has to have at least a 75 to 80% on the signal meter or it goes blank. Now, if a 75 or 80 passed you in school, then why is it not good enough to receive television reception? I first thought it was the "better digital transmission" but I had a friend buy a different model LCD TV and his works perfectly. We live next door to each other and are using identical antennas at the same height about 50ft apart so it has to be the TV.
I think something needs to be done about this. I'm a poor unemployed person and I don't have $600 to throw away every year on something like this. The only reason I got this ** thing is because the digital switch was coming soon at the time and between tax money and having my old TV sold, I thought it was the thing to do. I bought a 32-inch Emerson television from Walmart on February 6th of 2009. Late in August of 2009, my television turned itself off shortly after I turned it on. At that point, I had no reason to suspect the TV was failing on me because I have minor nerve damage in my left hand, and sometimes my fingers get twitchy. I figured that perhaps I inadvertently hit the power button one too many times and so I put the incident at the back of my mind and didn't pay it any more attention.
Starting roughly on the weekend of September 5th 2009, my television started turning itself off again. It would stay on from anywhere between about two minutes to an hour or so each time but it would invariably and inevitably turn itself off. Concerned, I began to look for my receipt. However, I couldn't find it, so figuring that I had no way of getting the matter resolved without one, I tabled the issue until I came across it a little over a week later on September 16th. Curious about what options I had available to me to get the situation resolved, I jumped online.
That was when I found this site and read page after page of horror stories about Funai's terrible craftsmanship and equally terrible customer service. As a frequent visitor of The Consumerist, I went there to see if they had posted any stories about how to get the issue resolved as they generally include alternate methods with which to get your issue resolved when all else fails. I found a post there sent in by a couple who had problems with, you guessed it, their Emerson-branded 32-inch LCD TV which met a similar fate to my own a mere few months after they purchased it, and their inability to get anyone at Funai to pay attention to the problem they were having with it. In the end, they were able to get a refund for their set but it involved starting up a Twitter page to boycott Funai. This concerned me, as I don't enjoy being made to feel like a sucker and given the frequency with which this issue occurs, coupled with Funai's apparent lack of regard for its customers when it happens, that was exactly what I was left feeling like.
I went ahead and filed a warranty inquiry on Funai's website which went ignored for three days. I know that doesn't sound like much, but let's be realistic here. Given the number of folks on this site alone who Funai ignored in the hopes that they'd just go away, along with the couple whose success story has to be tempered with the very real possibility that they'd still be waiting for Funai to get back to them had they not used Twitter to their advantage, I had no faith in Funai to get a hold of me at all. In fact I'm willing to bet that I'd still be waiting had I not been proactive about the issue.
Tired of waiting and growing more anxious by the day, I went ahead and nicked the level-2 customer support e-mail address from the Boycott Funai Twitter page and contacted the customer service representative listed there by the name of Mr. **. He had resolved the issue for the couple who ran the Boycott Funai initiative, so I figured that it wouldn't hurt to see if he could help me out too. He ignored my email, but a lady by the name of Candace responded the next day with an email asking for my phone number so that she could quickly resolve the issue for me. Unfortunately, I work from 8 am to 4 pm everyday, and cannot take calls while there. I don't get home until 5 pm most days which I would imagine would be too late for her to reach me, so I called the phone number Candace included in her email on my lunch break in order to speak to her.
Upon getting through to customer service, I asked the gentleman who answered the phone if he would transfer me through to Candace. He refused. He said that she couldn't offer me anything that he wasn't likewise entitled to offer me, and so sending me through to her would be pointless. I insisted that I be allowed to speak to her but he continued to insist on being given the opportunity to help me himself. Being that I didn't have much time on my break for a pointless back and forth, I gave up trying to get through to Candace and asked him what they could do for me as Level 2 customer service that filing an inquiry on the Funai website couldn't accomplish for me. He launched right into explaining the terms of Funai's warranty to me, and told me that the only avenues I had available would be to either send my television to them for repair or to take it to a certified Emerson repair center, but that being that I have had the TV for more than 90 days, I'd have to pay for labor.
This was problematic for two reasons. The first being that it exposed something that may have affected my decision to buy the TV had I known about it earlier. If I had known that the 1-year warranty only actually covered parts and labor for 90 days, then just parts thereafter, I wouldn't have bought the damned thing in the first place. That sort of warranty speaks to a lack of faith in the product on the part of the company that manufactures it, that it will perform over the long term. The second reason being that I had read more than a handful of stories here from folks who paid anywhere up to a third of the purchase-price for the TV in labor fees to get it fixed, only to have their TV exhibit similar symptoms anywhere from a week to a couple of months after repairs were completed.
I was not comfortable with paying them additional money over the purchase price in order to fix a problem that absolutely should not be occurring just a little over half a year after the set was purchased. Had the TV cost 100 bucks, then perhaps it could be treated like a piece of cheap, disposable merchandise but for just under half a grand, there's no excuse for why this TV should be exhibiting issues like the ones so many of us are experiencing so soon after we've purchased it, nor is there any reason why we should be asked to pay to get it working when it dies within warranty. I explained that to him and told him that I would not be happy with anything short of a refund and he told me that his hands were tied. I thanked him for his time, and then terminated the call.
I immediately emailed Candace back and asked that she call me at home at around 5 pm if possible. I related my experience with the rep to her and told her how disappointed I was about how the whole ordeal had been handled by Funai up to and including that point. I urged her to contact me only if she was prepared to offer me a full refund for the cost of the TV, and predictably enough, I haven't heard back from anyone from Funai in the week since.
I emailed her today and made her aware of my intention to file a complaint with the FTC, as well as the Attorney General located in the state in which Funai's US operations are located. I told her that I also intend to send my story to any consumer advocacy site on the web that will hear it, and that I will post my negative experiences on every social networking site available to me. If I can keep other people from being suckered in to buying a Funai TV set by its comparatively inexpensive prices, then maybe something of value will have come from this experience. I may not get my money back, but I will do my damnedest to make sure that they don't make a sucker out of anyone else.

We were out $327.99 + tax, not fair at all. I will join in a class action suit just to get this kind of rip off stopped. Paying over $400.00 for a year’s worth of TV is mental anguish. We don't have that kind of money to just throw away.

I purchased an Emerson 32" Digital/Analog TV (Lc320EM8A) from Wal-Mart on June 11, 2007. I don't watch the TV much, so I didn't notice the problem for a while. Then I started noticing these lines at the top of the screen that started coming down the screen. Other people have also had that problem. The lines haven't gone away and have increased in number and length on the screen. I'm preparing for the time that the TV won't be viewable at all. Of course, the warranty is up. The cost was a little over $500, which is a lot. My last TV, which wasn't Emerson, lasted about 15 years. So I expected the same here. It's not so! It appears that these TVs are all coming out of Wal-Mart. I'd be willing to join a class action suit.

I have an Emerson LCD TV 32" that I bought from Walmart in January of 2008. When I turn the TV on, it automatically turns off, it will not stay on. I was reading some of the complaints here and it is obvious that Emerson sent out many defective TVs to Walmart or Walmart purchased them knowing that they were refurbished or defective in some sort of way. This is really a sad thing for the consumer and for Emerson because I am like the last person. I know I won't ever purchase another Emerson product ever.

I just called Walmart and talked to a manager. They told me to contact Emerson, which I did. They told me the TV was out of warranty and couldn't be repaired by them. My mom purchased an Emerson 32" LCD TV with the same model number as those of most everyone on here who has complained about it in November 2008. I used it about 10 hours (She is a snowbird.) and came back north and watched it for 1 day. The picture change to look like an undeveloped negative. She did purchase the warranty, and after jumping through their loops and taking it to a repair shop and paying the labor charge (I was never refunded.), the TV was deemed unrepairable.
They then sent her another TV (after waiting for a call back several days), only to receive a used, refurbished one. It's probably one of the other TVs from another consumer problem return. Now after receiving the 2nd used, refurbished TV, that one also has the same problem. Now, we are waiting for another call back. She would like her money back. It doesn't matter if you purchase a warranty or not, it will cost you! If not in labor fees, it will get you in the stress level. I'm highly aggravated!

My daughter bought a 32-inch Emerson from Wal-Mart in February or March with her tax refund. She was watching it one day when it just went black and now it won't come back on. She of course cannot find her receipt to return it, but I contacted Wal-Mart and they said it would have to be returned to Emerson, which from reading other post won't do any good. She is a single mom making a small salary and cannot afford another TV until tax time next year; until then she is back to using her small 19-inch. It is shame that Wal-Mart and Emerson both will do nothing to fix this defective product. I warned her about buying and Emerson. Maybe she will listen to me next time. The consequence: loss of about $500.

We bought our 32" Emerson TV from Wal-Mart about 16 months ago. I've only wiped down the frame of it, not the screen, with a slightly damp soft cloth. It’s hardly enough to get fingerprints off the screen and is only careful dusting. 6 months ago, I noticed a dark crease in screen that is only visible while the TV is on. It developed another and then another, starting at the top of screen. The middle one is about 1" wide and goes almost halfway down screen. There are three to the right of that and two to the left. The farthest at each side are the shortest in length but the widest in width. It is not moisture. It is not outside the screen. They developed in a few weeks time.
They seem to be permanent and I really believe it's an inner screen behind the outer one and that because of poor manufacturing or poor material, it slacked, causing the effects of ripple. This was my first brand new TV. Not the cheapest, but far from the most costly. It's miserable to watch through these dark marks. I have very little faith in any electronics these days and the price of things. Wow. Who's to blame for all the foreclosures? I gotta buy a new TV every two years? What happened to something lasting 10 years?

I am disgusted to see that all these people have the same complaint and cannot get help. A prime example of how not to build a solid customer base. I won't buy Emerson again unless this can somehow be resolved. Also, though I'm a Walmart customer, it is curious to me that most (if not all) of these faulty TVs came from Walmart. Interesting. The individual that I spoke with at the 800# said the problem sounded like a power supply problem. I explained that having worked with electronics for eleven years, the power supply board should last longer than 15 months and I would hope that Emerson would offer some recourse to have the unit repaired. This of course was not an option and I had nowhere to go to have the unit repaired in my area. What do I do? The response was, "You should have bought the extended warranty." It's not just the point of buying a converter box, coupons, etc, it's the fact that it was supposed to come with what it stated and it misrepresented that.
