About Recovery Centers of America

Recovery Centers of America’s main concern is patient safety, whether from their addiction, or COVID-19. RCA has implemented new policies and procedures due to COVID-19 regarding pre-screening, medical clearances and limiting exposure to those who are not RCA staff or patients. That said, addiction is a deadly disease and it is important to seek medical help. RCA continues to admit new patients 24/7. Recovery Centers of America (RCA) is the fastest growing addiction treatment provider in the U.S., making treatment for addiction and other mental health disorders as affordable and accessible as any other disease. With world-class clinical treatment in state-of-the-art facilities throughout Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, every RCA patient is given the highest standard of care and evidence-based treatment with dignity and respect close to where they live and work.

Recovery Centers of America was one of the places that my insurance would cover. From day one, it was awesome. The people at the desk were super nice even though I had a little buzz on. I knew what I was getting into. Two weeks into it, I saw the girl from the front desk and she said that I was so sweet when I came in and that she was glad I am doing well. She remembered me and I asked her if I caused any trouble back then. She told that I was just great. So, that reinforced the fact that when I came in, it wasn’t like I was a sheep going through, but it was personal. The girl was there on Day 1 and she was talking to me on Day 14. It makes you feel like you count and you mean something to somebody. It was really, really cool.

It has absolutely been amazing in terms of what I learned there, and to take like skills of coping to the outside world. I've made many great connections with people there and I had an opportunity to learn so much about myself and about other people. I was a peer leader in there, and it really meant a lot to me to have other guys count on me. I’ve always played sports my whole life, and it reminded me that camaraderie of being in a team. Everyone has an up and down day, and you might get in arguments, and you might not agree on everything together, but you’re all in it together. It was really cool for me. It was just the kinda atmosphere that I thrive on.

The kitchen staff was amazingly awesome. The staff of counselors that I worked with and talked to on a day-to-day basis were fantastic. They got to know me and I never felt like a number or just a random name. I could have real life conversations with them, and not even about recovery. I never felt like they were belittling me. It was like you all know why you’re here, but at the same time, I felt like a regular person just getting help. I didn’t feel like I was in a rehab facility. Every one of the people I worked with were so cool. I felt so comfortable around them. It was great for me.

I’m out of the program now and I feel good and I’m healthy. I still talk to guys that are still in there or out of it. We keep in contact and we really made good friendships. It is really cool that you’re all on the same boat. I like that. We’re all here for a reason, and we all count on each other, and wanna help each other in the next level. I’ve learned a lot and I would welcome the opportunity to help anyone.

Recovery Centers of America is like no other rehab I've been to before. All the staff was there for me. They were nice and professional. When somebody new would come in, one of the patients would show them around. They did the same for me and asked me if I needed anything. With other rehabs, it would be the opposite and it wouldn't be a good environment.

Orientation and accommodations were also pretty good. Still, they could give people a little more when they get in, like what they might not have such as shampoo or a bar of soap. Even so, the staff handlers were great and they worked with me. They didn't try to push me too hard and got me to where I needed to go when I left. It was a great experience all the way around.

We were in a hurry to get me in somewhere so we did a lot of research and we found a center that was relatively close, which was Recovery Centers of America. When I arrived at the facility, everybody was super welcoming and very helpful. They were understanding of my situation and I felt cared for and welcomed from day one. The staff that I dealt with were all great. They were really polite and wanted to do their best to motivate us to get to groups and be functional within the little community that we had. Cassandra was my counselor at the Waldorf location and she was excellent. She was extremely helpful as I deal with some of the things I had going on.

The entire experience was a positive and wonderful thing. It was what I needed at that time and everybody was supportive. The guys I was with in the facility were also some of the greatest people I've met in a long time. I lost track of my strong support system even when I was with my family and checking into Recovery Centers of America's facility has helped me get in touch with that. They became a good mediator between my family and myself. I have also felt better since I got out of the facility. During the whole process I felt a little bit guilty and ashamed, but having talked to some of the people involved and going through the groups that we had, I felt more comfortable in my own skin. I would definitely recommend Recovery Centers of America. I hope more people can get into their facility and experience what I experienced for themselves, if they're looking for it.

My 20-year-old son had nothing but positive experience with Recovery Centers of America. He had a 30-day stay there and since then, they had a sober living program where he has been for two months now. Everything was really good. It was at the right time for him and we went to the right place in our city. He met people at RCA that he still lives with and he is grateful for what RCA did for him.

It was my first experience with that kind of recovery and I thought it would be more like a hospital but it was nothing like one so I was impressed. Now, I know what to expect so I know what to compare other places to and hopefully, I never have to go to another one. Everybody at Recovery was excellent. Their people were very caring, very friendly and professional. They were trained well to see a guy like me who didn't know what to expect and looking for help and they were very cool about it, all the way around. All in all, I would recommend Recovery Centers of America.

I was having some issues with anxiety and depression and I was smoking to deal with that. I play lacrosse at the university and my athletic trainer recommended I speak to Recovery Centers of America to fix it. I was comfortable talking to the counselor and I had a good experience when I first arrived. The only issue I really had was with my bills. My athletic trainers had told me a certain price for everything but I turned around at the very end and it was a lot more than I was told. Other than the cost though, everything was very good. Everybody was nice and the service was good. We had talked about some issues, like why I was having anxiety, and they really helped me deal with those in a more productive way instead of bottling them up and letting them affect me on a daily basis.

My wife found Recovery Centers of America and recommended it to me. It was pretty good. The initial counselor suggested that I participate in another portion of the program but I didn't think it matched what I needed. She gave me the criteria and told me to do the in-house portion of it. I successfully made it through and I got a lot out of it. The counselor I had was really good. I still use the tools that she taught us in the class. It was a pleasant experience and I actually enjoyed going.

But there was a lady at the center who I just felt, initially, stereotyped me in some type of way. But I made it through without any hiccups and she saw that. I have no hard feelings about that at all. Also, there was an issue when it was time for me to go back to work. I voluntarily went back because I wanted to. I didn't have a mandate. The center released some information to my job. My job had no idea why I was out and when they saw the center's letterhead, they wanted clearance from a medical doctor. But there wasn’t one on staff that had an M.D. or a nurse practitioner to clear me to go back to work. I had to go see a source outside of the Recovery Centers of America in order to get cleared. Other than that, I’m clean now and I haven’t looked back.

Staff is professional, but down to earth when needed. I enjoyed the RSS thoroughly! The higher learning experience from the RSS and peers over the therapists/counselors. RCA is my second experience in recovery. I would use the word "sadly", but I gained so much more knowledge this time! They helped me achieve a priceless peaceful state of mind. It was also the first time meditation worked and helped my mentality. I am entirely grateful for the experience, and would never have a negative thought or comment towards RCA. MIMI IS AN ANGEL (Spirituality counselor)!!! I also miss her son Nick! Oh, and wellness with Noel... He's the man! I could sing praises all day every day!

The folks from Recovery Centers of America came and picked me up and it was nice. But with the traffic and the weather we had in February, the drive was a little rough. At the same time, the way you have to go from Frederick to Waldorf is not an easy commute, no matter what time of year. When I got to the recovery center, I was physically ill and throwing up. But the nurse for the in-process was good, although there was a ton of repetitive information. You had to in-process five different groups of people so some of the information was redundant. It gets a little old, especially when you're not in your sharpest mind.

Still, I had a good treatment. I got along great with everybody. I even ended up becoming the men's group president and that was cool. The staff was wonderful too, but there were a couple who were like former corrections officers. Two of them particularly had a mindset that you’re an inmate rather than a patient. That was because they got mixed people. I was there voluntarily but then some people were court-ordered. But regardless of that, we were there for treatment. Still, a couple of the RCA staff were a little heavy-handed. Other than those two though, everybody treated us with respect and as a patient.

The biggest negative about the whole thing was that I didn't realize that the opioid epidemic was so damn bad. My addiction was with alcohol but clearly, the majority of the people at the recovery center were there for opioid abuse and issues. That demographic was very young too, relative to the alcoholics. They're in the young and middle 20s and for about two weeks, it was tough because their addiction is not what alcohol addiction is. It was a mess. The older people were primarily there on their own accord. They wanted to change and anybody who wants change will make that decision and treatment. But a lot of the young people didn’t care. They hijacked people's treatments and were in and out of classes. They were so disruptive and disrespectful. It was almost as though some of those people had been in the criminal justice system. So maybe it wasn't the proper treatment facility to start with.

I know RCA can't do a separate facility but there might need to be separate classes. RCA has to decide where their sweet spot is gonna be. If it’s gonna be everybody, then it is what it is. But if they’re gonna be selective, they have to find their spot. If they’re gonna do opioid addiction, they can do better by having facilities and treatment classes that go to addiction.

I think the opioid problem is big enough that they can have a center that's just based on that and then have the proper staff. The addiction that persists around the opioids is a lot stronger and more destructive. There were people who were in detox for a week, whereas an alcoholic might go in there for three or four days. Not everybody from the RCA staff had been a heroin addict either. You could tell which instructors or guidance people had a background in it and then those who did not. There were some people who had real world experience and there were some people who had book smarts because they went to college and ended up as a counselor or therapist.

From the management standpoint, there was also a lot of what appeared to be the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. There were certain little things like whether something was scheduled or what they would do when the next person comes in. When I got there, the classes started right on time, 9am on the dot, in the first few weeks. But then they started less than five minutes and sometimes, 15 minutes. The treatment is very expensive care too. I was fortunate enough that my insurance company was gonna pay for everything. But it was basically $30,000. If you count the number of people in there, that’s a lot of money.

I mainly went to the one in Waldorf because it is physically closer than the one in Earleville, Maryland. The facility was about a year and a half old and it was a really nice facility. I'd give them credit for that. But if they don't make changes, they're gonna start having some fundamental problems and I would hate to recommend RCA to somebody then. Word is gonna get out like, "Don't come here. This place is a mess." But I'm assuming that the new CEO would make changes with their approach. I would speak very highly of RCA but I would also have people do their due diligence. If I was going into a program, I would ask what their mix is, who and what they treat, and what they specialize in.

We were trying to get me into rehab at the last minute, and my mom found and told me Recovery Centers of America. I’ve also seen it in the commercials. I was a little lost the first few days because they wanna leave you in detox and let you just get accustomed. They didn’t tell me that so I didn’t know what the schedule was. They detoxed me a little incorrectly and we had to adjust it a few days after the detox because they detoxed me a little too fast. But besides that, the experience was good.

Alexandria was my primary therapist at Waldorf. She was amazing and she helped me a lot while I was there. Cassandra was another primary therapist and she was great. The other staff, for the most part, were pretty cool. Recovery Centers of America helped me get into a recovery house and set up everything that I needed. It was useful and I got a lot out of it.

All the staff really cared about how I was feeling. It went as well as it could have gone. It was definitely a good experience. I have a working program afterward, which is something I’ve never done before. Everything I’m doing that’s helping me out now is all stuff that I got out of RCA.

I’ve been to three Recovery Centers and they were all awesome, quick and easy. They made things comfortable. At the Lighthouse, there was a guy named Job who offered to do all my laundry and fold it. When I got there, he made me food. I just got six months over so it was pretty good. One of the case managers that I met at RCA Devon got me into a sober living house in California. I just prefer them when they were smaller like the RCA Devon which was only 150 people. It was much more personal than when they opened the expansion.

The people at Recovery are really topnotch. It was a great experience that I had there and they took care of me. I got along with a lot of staff members there 'cause I'm sort of a social person and a lot of the staff's in recovery as well. They know what I was going through and I can talk to them about certain things and they understood. That's a really comfortable feeling. They're caring and really helpful.

The thing that bugged me a little bit was there were a lot of young kids there in sad shape but they just didn’t take the treatment seriously a lot of times. It was frustrating for me but I had to worry about myself and not about them. Going into treatment must be taken seriously. It's not a joke. It's your life you're talking about. You can only get out of it what you put into it. You will have to want it. My experience at RCA has helped me out a lot on my own post-treatment. When you're in recovery in there, you're guarded. Then once you get out, you gotta really deal with things. If you're there just because you're court-ordered it's not fine at all, but if you really want it, you have to buckle down and do what you're told. It was tough for me. But I went to meetings and have a sponsor. Now, I'm doing well.

With my attitude towards my life, I didn't like to go to the Recovery Centers of America at first. But once I started to get to know the staff and they started to get to know me, I thought they were pretty good. The place sort of grew on me. The whole staff, like the people serving the food, were really cool. There were some days when you'd get different people and you wouldn’t like them as much as the other people just because the other people were so good. Some courses sort of went a little sideways, too, but it was never a big thing with me. I really took all the lessons even if the staff and I got in a little back and forth type of thing. I really liked it to be a type of lesson but it was more of working-on-myself type of thing. It was helping me working on myself.

I didn’t like learning, but I learned from being there that is a better way to use your time. They prepare you in there for when you get the urge to use. They get you equipped with tools. So far, I haven't used what I went in the center for. If you really need help, the center is a good spot to go. I saw a lot of people in there who were not feeling it but I was. Once it was my second week, it was hard because I was away from my family, but if I didn’t have those things to look back to, it would have been so hard for me. The center pushing the meetings on me was good as well. There was a lot of stuff to do that were cool. We got to go to the movies one time when we made all the meetings.

The only thing that could have gone differently was they could have let you look for a job in the meantime while you were there. They could help you get employed coming out. Overall, I like how the program went and it worked for me. There were little things to learn from and it was a good experience. But you kind of don’t know what to expect when you get out of being in a facility. You need some time as you can't just jump right back into a job. I just got a job today. This is my third week out.

Recovery Centers of America was my first rehab. Everybody else was saying that the one in Devon was by far the best one, so I chose that one. When I first got there, I had a little anxiety. I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even know anyone that had been to a rehab to get an idea of how everything works. Everything was a new experience. But as far as my experience with RCA, I had a good time. Everything was good. The activities, art, music and all the things that you can do therapeutically, were able to help and I like that. The food was good and the beds were okay. The community was tight and the staff was wonderful. They understood our position as addicts. They weren’t aggressive but were nice. Especially in my first week, everybody was so welcoming, making sure I have everything that I needed.

On my first couple of days, they brought my meds to me because I wasn’t feeling too well. They also didn’t force me to go to meetings. They told me to just go whenever I'm ready. Once my first week went by, I got the flow of everything. Someone in the community helped me out when I didn’t know where to go. The therapists were very nurturing, making sure if I had any urges or thoughts, I was welcome to come to them and share and talk about those. They would also ask me everyday if I was okay or how was I feeling.

Recovery Centers of America definitely did a good job. Right now, I’m in RCA at Wilmington for IOP, and I chose to go to RCA. Anything that had to do with them, I was willing to do it. It’s the same system -- caring and nurturing people. They also understand that I am an addict and I need help. There was no judgment. I would definitely refer Recovery Centers of America. I’ve already done that for other individuals who are first timers. I told them that when I went to the RCA in Devon, it wasn’t like a jail facility. I got so comfortable there and for my last few days, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to leave yet. That’s how comfortable I got.

Everybody at Recovery Centers was helpful and made me feel comfortable. They separated the older from the younger which was a great thing to do because there wasn’t like drama going on. Also, the counselors were helpful and the nursing staff was great. My primary counselor was awesome. Her name was Keller. And this one guy, Nick, is a really good asset to the company. He really knows about recovery. He has been there and he had done it. He has a Big Book meeting there which on his own time for the people. And the RSS were all nice. They never had an attitude and were always smiling. It was a great place.

They were always asking if I was okay and how things were going. If they saw me in a bad space, they would ask what was going on. I had some problems with my dad passing and they were really helpful to me. Recovery Centers of America gave the tools I needed while I was there to stay sober and they set me in the line to do what I need to do when I got out of there. My experience was the greatest. Keeping the classes separated as far as the age group was the best experience. I would recommend it to anybody.

Actually went to the Waldorf location, but that wasn’t an option to pick. I personally can’t speak highly enough about my experience with RCA! From the moment I walked into the door I felt welcomed by the staff and I knew I was in the right place at the right time. Rock bottom wasn’t far away. The nursing staff did a great job making me feel comfortable and helped me get through the toughest first five days (detox). The group sessions were lead by staff that actually wanted to be there and most importantly most of them have walked a mile in our shoes. I can’t thank Kassandra, Constance, Ms. **, and Mr. ** enough for their insight. They kept me engaged and brought things out of me that I didn’t know were there. And if we weren’t in group we had access to a state of the art facility with 4 star hotel amenities. Susie, my case manager, went above and beyond for me during my stay there! Wouldn’t have made it the full 30 days without her.

The only thing that I would suggest for improvement is the quality of the food. Some of the meals were downright uneditable. But if that’s my biggest concern that proves how great this place truly is. I had/have a great life outside of RCA and before my stay alcohol was depriving me of that. I can proudly say because of RCA I’m going to have a better, more meaningful life. If you’re struggling with addiction, there is nothing wrong with letting your guard down and asking for help. And if that’s the case there’s no better place than the RCA in Waldorf, MD.

I had a very good experience at RCA. This was my 4th detox and 1st stay for full treatment. I was cut a week short and it was sprung on me last moment because of insurance which I was not happy with because I was not fully ready to leave and none of the staff even offered to try to help me out with it. Also the whole nursing program is terrible, it takes days to get any problems with medications sorted out sometimes weeks. I had asked 2 different nurses on 3 separate occasions to put in a sick note for me to adjust medications and none of them even did it, it wasn't until I asked a third nurse a fourth time that it was resolved. You have to really bug and pester them to get even the simplest problems taken care of, the whole program needs to be re-evaluated, and fast.

Other than nursing/medications I had a really good experience, the good vastly outweighs the bad. The RSS's are really good and really helpful, especially Ricky, he was a massive help to me. I had no faith in myself of ever getting sober and I can honestly say because of him I actually want to stay sober and really excited about it, that man should be running the place. He also helped me recognize happiness for the first time, I had no idea what it felt like prior. I also have nothing but great things to say about Korey and Anthony. Because of those three guys the program was worth it and I feel I am able to stay sober for today.

I got to the Recovery Centers of America at 4:30 in the morning and I was pretty tired. Their staff were great. They were professional and at the same time were caring. They also tried to meet my dietary requirements which was good because I had a gastric bypass. I pretty much have to eat about every 2 1/2 hours and they worked around the rule of "No eat up at the cafeteria," in order to meet my night time needs.

Their accommodation of my needs was really important because if I don't eat, my blood sugar drops then I pass out. That was a concern to them and they really went out of the way to make sure that I was able to have mini meals when I needed to. My experience at the center gave me a lot of tools to use, which they made sure I had a lot of. It was really helpful. I was really happy with my whole experience there, except for the initial search. But they had to do that. They had to do a few room searches while I was there too. Thankfully, none of them applied to me.

My experience at Recovery Centers was very easy. The lady at the front desk was very nice. She told me exactly what I needed to do because it was my first time. She told me exactly where to go, exactly what to do, and it was very easy and simple. I was with outpatient care and Britney, the lady I was with once a week, was awesome. Being at Recovery Centers changed my mindset. It also gave me a different outlook on life.

My husband was finally ready to go to rehab. After 15 phone calls, or more, to RCA, we had it scheduled. I went through rigorous, repetitive questions from the staff of which I did not mind. The conversations detailed insurance information. After he was picked up and taken to the facility in May's Landing he called me. They told me personally that the detox, with insurance, would be a $1000 copay. When he arrived they told him it would be $5800. They screwed up BIG TIME. Gave my husband an out, exactly what an addict needs to bail. I would not recommend this center for anyone who is serious about recovery. Have not heard back from them once after the episode. What a HUGE disappointment.

Going with Recovery Centers of America helped me out a lot. The staff was very nice and they treated me well. It's just that when we had classes, and on the board where they had written down for the date and time, the break, they were short-staffed a lot of times. And things would change, and we had nothing to do. We’d just sit around and when you sit around, time drags. It mostly happened on the weekend like that.

The food really sucked. Everything I ate, like breakfast sausage, was overcooked. So, every time I got meat, it was hard to chew. The vegetables weren’t cooked. And they came to the room every 20 minutes to check on me. So, if I fell asleep, doors opened up, the light from the hallways, and I was awakened. I have trouble sleeping, and as soon as I doze off, somebody was opening the door up.

Either I had high expectations of a what a recovery center was or this place is just a revolving door for users. I got very little help with my actual psychological issues. Luke and Gabby were a bit helpful after my wife and I complained that I wasn't receiving therapy and only getting detox and a watered down version of AA. Overall it was the worst decision I have made in my adult life and I would have been better off doing an at home detox and taking a few weeks off of work and meeting with an actual (PhD) therapist. One thing I did learn is how and where to buy opioids. I will say that Max was and has continued to be helpful in my recovery, even though he was taken off of my case because he lived in my neighborhood. (WTF?)

I was gonna go to Warwick, but they didn’t have a bed. I called up the person on the back of my card and he said that they found me a bed at Recovery Centers of America, and I said that I would go. That place was heaven on earth. The chef was unbelievable and the housekeeping was phenomenal. There was also a girl there and she helped me out so much. The head nurse that works in the office was really good and all the nurses were super nice. It really changed how I was feeling. The people were caring, compassionate and they listened.

The only thing I would change that stunk was the medication line at nighttime, which was horrendous. It would take 45 minutes or so to get your medicine. While I was there, I would have to leave the 8 or 9 o’clock meetings just to get my meds and the meeting would be over when I came back. I could sit by for 45 minutes or go back to my room and take a shower. Overall I would tell my friends to go to RCA and not to any other place. I was at Warwick one time and they didn’t make me go to meetings. The people were like cattle. You gotta go here and there, and some days, you’re not feeling any. You need an extra hour of sleep or you can’t wrap your head around going to another meeting for that day, and they let you go. I went to all the meetings at RCA, but it was no pressure. I’m still recovering and I’m 130 days now, and I feel good.

My friend knew the advocate for Recovery Centers of America, so I got a scholarship there. I love my experience with them. When I arrived there, the whole process was nice and the intake process wasn’t super long. It's a beautiful place and I love it. It's a great facility all around. The staff and the food were great. I liked the fact that I could custom-order a hamburger or a turkey meal. That was a huge benefit. The amenities and accommodations were excellent. The rooms were the huge highlight because the beds were really comfortable and the TVs in the rooms were great. Everything, including the lectures, was good. A lot of the techs had been in recovery themselves, so they could relate to the clients and they cared. I wasn’t just another client. They talked to us on a personable level and did not act like it wasn’t their job.

I’ve been to so many treatments where there wasn’t something that the people there could tell me that I didn’t already know. But for a person who has only been to treatment once or twice, Recovery Centers would give them more than the average treatments and coping skills. They bring in certified recovery specialists and they dive in with the 12 Steps a bit more than the average treatment center. They prepare clients for what they’re gonna be experiencing outside, rather than just having lectures, coloring, and simple activities like that. You would know if your insurance is paying for your treatment because a lot of recovery centers are almost like adult day care where they ask you to color something and you tell them how you feel about it. But Recovery Centers didn’t do that. Aside from bringing in CRS’s, they also blended The Big Book for Alcoholics Anonymous, so their treatment was definitely beneficial.

I had my problem with drinking and I was in the hospital. Recovery Centers of America was recommended and I was told, “If you wanna go to a really good place to get yourself together, RCA is the place to go.” I’m a former military and a former law enforcement, and I expected the initial stringent interaction. In RCA, it was like you were under lockdown, but it was the way it should be. There are no phones. There is constant surveillance which I felt was good. Everybody was friendly, courteous, and helpful. The accommodation was excellent and the food was very good. We had two people in a room. Each bed has its own large-screen TV and a coffee room on each floor.

I was in a special wing, a special floor for first responders, cops, firemen, paramedics, military and we got all along pretty well. I’m still in contact with my roommate and with other people that I was there with. My therapist, April, was excellent. The counselor, Jimmy, was good. He was pretty passionate about his job there. A lot of the RSS, the people that kept an eye on us, walked the halls, and observed, were good. The family therapist, Ed, was another guy that was really good and very helpful. When it's downtime and there’s nothing else to do, I hit the gym, which I think was important for my recovery. I had gym time pretty much any time I wanted even though there was a structured gym time. It was all opened up to us. Everybody at RCA was good.

One of the things, which I’m still involved in and probably for the next two weeks, is that they set me up on Intensive Out-Patient, scheduled week-nights. They were weekdays before, and that is at the Center City Recovery. This is my second rodeo and I didn’t have that the first time. I was hit by my father’s death after the first time, so I basically went to the bottle again. But this time, Matt from RCA set me up for the IOP. I wanted to go to a place in Philly where I live, where I was born and raised, but this has been very helpful for me. A week in the hospital, four weeks in Devon, and 90 days at the Center City Recovery and I’m on my way now. I highly recommend RCA and I would recommend this facility to people out there in need whether alcoholic like myself or people with other addictions. There are more people out there than people generally realize that need to be in recovery.

I’ve been to a lot of treatment centers and Recovery Centers of America is the best by far. They are my first recommendation to anybody who’s seeking treatment. I’ve been in recovery and in and out of the room for about five years. And every time that I get sober and even on the times when I’m using, there are things that I learn that I then use as reference or that I can use to build on a skill or a coping mechanism to help me improve my state of wellness. Having staff members who were also in recovery was an essential part of my positive experience at Recovery Centers of America. The information is not as formidable to a newly sober or a newly recovering alcoholic or addict. So it’s definitely essential to have people with 4, 10, 20 or 25 years of sobriety working there.

Horace has been sober for 25 years and he was at Waldorf. He made a phenomenal impact on my life, not just on my recovery, because I see things at a different perspective. He motivated me by being the person he became in recovery. I asked him what he did that kept him sober when he got out of treatment and he told me that he went to meetings 2-5 times a day. He was also in an intensive outpatient program in seeking therapy and treatment outside of the rooms. He told me to get a sponsor and work the steps. That was what he did and that’s what I’ve been doing. In fact, I’ve been doing all the things that he said that he did. He didn’t tell me to do it. I asked him what he did, hoping that it may guide me into the positive direction that I’m aiming for, and so that I can implement everything that he did into my recovery. I wanted to learn from someone whom I had a lot of respect for.

Chuck was exceptionally helpful in my recovery also. My case manager, Suzzie, also helped me get into an excellent next-step situation. She provided an opportunity for me to get into a sober living house where I wanted to be. I was really appreciative of the staff that was there, even including the staff that’s no longer there. When I heard that some of the assessors and the staff members were no longer there, I was disappointed because they made a huge impact on my recovery. It was a wonderful experience overall.

My experience with Recovery Centers of America was fantastic. I like the goodness and friendliness of some people. I learned over the years of being around that a person's experience was all in the approach. Some of them approached nastily. I didn't give anyone a hard time. I had already sat down. All the guy had to do was explain things to me. He didn't have to yell at me. I also had so much to say at one of the meetings that the CEO pulled me into her office and we talked for an hour.

I’m recovering and I know better. Kids today are dying out there. They’re looking for the way out the door and not the way in. They wanna go home to their wife and say they're not getting help at Recovery Centers. They want to say that the lady hurt their feelings and that she was mean and didn’t treat them right. If people couldn't help an alcoholic, they shouldn’t hurt the alcoholic. The only time you should look down on an alcoholic or an addict is to pick them up. I felt that a few of them could have some lessons in mannerism. If they don’t have empathy, they shouldn't get a job there. Some of them wanna play police. We don’t need the police. We need help.

Some of the people were absolutely fantastic though. I came off the streets. I didn’t come out of my house because my wife and kids didn’t want me. I had no underwear and they got it for me. It doesn’t have to be the big miracle thing, little things mean a lot. The caring and feeling like a human being again helped. Laurie, a tech there, and also another lady were fantastic.

When I arrived at Recovery Centers of America, I was very distraught because of my health situation and it was later in the night. It was uncomfortable and then there was an issue with insurance so that delayed it even more. My insurance did cover but that exacerbated the whole situation. The staff was really nice though. I did IOP there and in retrospect, it was a bunch of nonsense and I felt let down. But their group leader was fantastic. She was one of the reasons that I kept coming back to the IOP. But she left there last week. She was just not recognized or acknowledged for the great work that she did. And that left a bad taste in my mouth.

Also, I'm not a smoker but gums were like my cigarettes. All I wanted to do was to chew gums but they would not allow me. I took it up with my therapist so many times but every time, there was a different stupid excuse why I couldn't have it. They came up with every BS excuse that they could. I understood that I was in rehab and they were trying to discipline me but it was ridiculous. On the other hand, the women there were smoking their faces off whenever they had three minutes. So all those women are gonna have lung cancer but I couldn't chew gum. It sounds silly but it frustrated me beyond.

Towards the end, my mom would sneak gum in for me and every night we had an AA meeting but one night, I accidentally dropped my gum. Some of the people were like, "Oh my gosh, you have a gum?" They were so excited. Other than that, somebody also stole a 400-dollar pair of sunglasses from me. I probably should not have brought them. But at the same time, there was no reason for someone to steal them. I'm really pissed off about that.

I wasn’t very pleased with the experience I had with Recovery Centers of America at all. Taking everything, I learned some things at RCA, but I do not believe the staff was certified. I went in there without paying an insurance and I was confused as to how RCA prorates with people that have insurance. For instance, one girl that lives here around my neighborhood who graduated at the same time I did had an $80,000 bill whereas mine was $35,000. She had insurance and paid $150 out of it. I feel that RCA prorates and I don’t believe that their billing system is correct, but I could be wrong there. I tried to ask to get a grant or some sort of reprieve for it because I did not have insurance and they weren’t conducive to that end of it. The people that led the meetings seemed to be very young and new to the center and didn’t have very much experience. I have been to other rehabs before and have exceeded more experience than the people there.

I know my therapist and she was good. She was registered, as well as my counselor. But the ones that were instructing the classes weren’t certified by any means to sit there in class and instructor meetings. The clients ran the meetings more than the people leading the instructor meetings. It was bogus. I’m 58 years old. It’s okay if a family is sending their child to try to detox because they wanna save their child, but I’m an adult.

The people that walked me through the rooms or around the building were never on the same page. One person told me one thing and then another person said another. I told that person that the other person just told me this and that person needed to go talk to them. I voiced my opinion a couple of times about how they all need to get their stuff together and everybody needs to be on the same page because they have people trying to get better and go by rules applied by RCA standards. However, the staff can’t even apply the rules on their own and they did not stick to those rules to any of the clients that were in there. People went and slept in their rooms all day long except for when they came out to eat. Also, there was a particular person that graduated a couple of days before me that was an isolator. I saw that nobody helped him try to come out of his room and get him going.

The RCA facility itself was clean and beautiful, but that doesn’t disguise the people that are running it. It wasn’t just menial things. There were nurses that were rude to clients and nurses that were dispensing wrong medication. Also, when somebody asked for their medication, they said no. They couldn’t have it because it had to be doctor-recommended although it was already on their chart. They were looking at somebody else’s chart. The way RCA was advertised, they would have a psychiatrist and a doctor on hand 24/7, however, they didn’t have anybody there, although they had nurse practitioners. RCA has false advertising and I hear on the radio every day about them trying to promote their business. Unfortunately, I believe that the RCA that I went to in Waldorf only happened to be four months old and they didn’t have it together. I also heard that employees who worked for RCA quit there and I don’t blame them.

At one point in time, I was thinking about putting a class action lawsuit against RCA. I had eight people that were willing to back me on it because that was what the lawyer said that I needed. At the same time when I spoke to the lawyer, he said that with the money that it would cost me and the money that RCA had to back them, they would beat me one way or another. So, he wasn’t willing to take the case and referred me to another firm.

I was going through some things and then my wife had registered me for a place. She called up Pathways but it was pretty full and they didn’t have beds. I needed to get somewhere immediately, so she looked online and found Recovery Centers of America in Waldorf, MD. I’m from Upper Marlboro, so it’s about 15 minutes away. She took it upon herself and I went to Recovery Centers of America.

It was my first time in a rehab. At first, I was pretty scared and worried about what I was getting into. Upon arrival, I looked around the building and it seemed to be pretty nice. I met with a lady named Deborah and she told me all about the rules and regulations. And then, I went to intake with the young lady, Crystal, who was very nice. She made me feel a whole lot more comfortable. I’m a cigarette smoker, so she gave me a chance to smoke my cigarette while she was checking me in.

I’ve been telling everybody about Recovery Centers of America because it’s a very nice place if you have a problem. The comfortability is nice and the staff is great. You can get a lot out of RCA. You have a certain RSS at RCA and that was just phenomenal. They made me feel very comfortable even it was a time when I wanted the AMA. A young lady talked me out of it. The first couple of days being on blackout was frustrating, but I understood the concept of it. After that, it was pretty cool. However, as the program went on, you get like you wanted to come home and do your thing again. But there were a lot of good people there like Harris, Chuck and Jay who kept me from AMA. The group itself came together by about Day 7, and the group started to know each other a little bit more. It became more of a family bond and it just was a good experience overall.

One thing that is needed at RCA at least in Waldorf though is like myself who is willing to go to speak to some of the newer patients and tell them that we have stayed in those rooms and sat in those chairs and now in recovery. That should be brought to someone’s attention because they have a couple of people who come in, but it’s normally the same AA group or NA group, but those are people who have never stayed at RCA.

Even though I was on the fence and had a poor attitude they still treated me like I was family and did their very best to help me. I've been to many treatment facilities and never have I felt so welcomed and cared about right the very start. I left early because of mine own issues and even then when trying to leave the staff were so concerned and tried everything they could. My counselor even cried to me. Never have I experienced care like that anywhere, and it's the reason I chose to go back a month later and they sent me to RCA Waldorf, Mayland. It was the same feeling even though they were only open for a month or so I never felt more welcomed and cared for. The counselors there were amazing, really knowing how to get down to the core of my problem.

The groups were beneficial and the information I got about my disease was the best I have ever gotten. Like I said, I've been to many treatment facilities and RCA was still able to teach me new things and give me hope that I've never had before. I would recommend this place to anybody they treat you with dignity and respect and like a human being, not just some number to fill the bed. Thank you guys for everything. I've been to treatments before, in 2010 and 2011, but I went for like a week and left. I've gone to six different treatment facilities but Recovery Center is hands down the best place I've ever been to. I live outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they built one in Devon, which is not too far from my house. I didn't have private insurance and they gave me a scholarship but that time if I wanted the scholarship, I had to be there that day, which was a Saturday. It was about 4 o'clock in the afternoon when I called and they were like, "Yeah, we can get you in today, but you have to make it down there by today," and it's like a three-hour ride. I got on the train about 9:00 PM and they picked me up from Washington, D.C. which was like a 45-minute drive. Their decision to go out of their way to pick me up was a big deal.

They offer the best amenities. Patients have a TV in their room, which is unheard of in a rehab facility. They have a basketball court, a gym, yoga sessions and they have church every Sunday. They also have a case manager, a family therapist and the patient's own individual therapist. They have a psychiatrist. Then, I had some medical issues and the nursing staff was very hands on. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. When the staff pass by us in the hallway, they talked to us and asked how we were and how we felt.

I stayed there for 29 days and they got my outpatient set up before I left there. Despite the fact that I'm from Pennsylvania and I was in Washington, D.C. they made all the calls necessary where I had my outpatient therapy set up. The only thing is, they were only about three months new when I was there. I could tell that they were still working out kinks like with the schedule and staffing situations. Other than that, everyone made me feel like they care and that the patients always come first. I will recommend Recovery Center to anyone.

A family friend that we’ve known for several decades now, currently works in the addiction treatment field and he recommended Recovery Centers of America. I had a general feeling of panic and nervousness when I arrived there. I was gonna be in a place where I didn’t know anybody. I had never been there before and hadn’t really heard of it before but I was gonna be there, separated from people like friends and family so it was very scary, confusing and stressful. But other than that the experience was very smooth and very good. And it ended up being a very easy transition.

The staff was phenomenal. I was very warmly welcomed by all the staff from the admissions to detox. They made me feel comfortable. Like when I said, “I’m scared to be here.” They said, “Oh, don’t worry. Everyone’s great here. The beds are so comfortable. There’s nothing to be scared of.” They eased my mind. And then when I transitioned upstairs to the treatment unit, they also welcomed me pretty warmly. If I had any questions they always answered them. If I wanted to ask, “Hey, how is this gonna work? When am I transitioning upstairs?” They were perfectly upfront.

And if they didn’t know the answer they would direct me to someone who did. Our assessors, Amy, Susan and Joel, were amazing. Not that they all weren’t amazing staff members, but those are the ones that were the most friendly and helpful. And Wendy down in detox was also amazing. All the staff down in detox made it a point to come up, visit and check in especially during the first few days of the transition. Wendy would always come up and whenever she did she would always say, “Hey, how are you doing? Is it still going okay for you?”

Also I felt the handouts and the worksheets and all of the materials that they gave us were very informative. It’s one of those what to expect afterwards kind of thing. I still have them and they helped me walk through what the next steps would be. We discussed sober living, like a sober house versus an IOP. They also gave me leaflets and brochures about different sober houses. They were more than willing to let me experiment with different recovery groups like AA versus SMART Recovery and see what would work for me. So they were very helpful.

I admitted here on July 4th, and from there on in my life changed for the worse; was there for alcohol detox so I could have an operation, sounds simple, but my first day there my ** medication was taken away and I was given a dose of ** (which makes no sense) and numerous **, and other, unexplained by staff psych meds, which I did not need nor was ever prescribed! By the third day I stopped taking the meds and was basically left to rot in my room with no food or drink offered or my blood pressure checked, all while still not having my **, which I started to feel the effects of withdrawal from; and was still not tended to for at least 5 days. Never saw a doctor thru all of this, my fiancé had try to contact the facility and was never given my status as well as me not being told that she had called. I woke up on my last day there to find nobody at the front desk or a nurse that is said to be on site 24-7, another lie.

At that point I realized I need to leave here or I’m going to die. Also, I lost 23 pounds here. And upon leaving I was told that they were unable to get my personal belongings (cell phone, wallet etc.). I replied that my lawyer could call am maybe expedite the process, 10mins later I had my belongings and was finally free to go. It was a horrifying experience that no one should ever go thru. I saw that another of their facilities was shut down due to numerous deaths, had I known I was going to be treated like an animal I never would have gone, I feel violated on so many levels. Lastly, the meds that they had given me made me lose my sight at which point I was told to drink Gatorade and was never given any, and again still never saw a doctor.

I had a great experience at Recovery Centers of America. Checking in was very simple and there was a great guy named Charles who I knew throughout and helped me out through it. My therapist, Tiffany, was right on point. I got a lot of help from her. I went there mainly just for detox as I only drank for a few days. I ended up staying for 28 days so I got a lot out of it, from the detox standpoint, with the meetings and how comfortable the building was.

The facility is great. The people there were really courteous and they made sure that they took care of my belongings. They were also super knowledgeable. The facility was very secure, with a wonderful gym, comfortable beds and everybody was getting into it. I've been in recovery a lot of times and it's really hit or miss but Recovery Centers of America is the best place I've ever been in my life. The place I have been to before just stowed things in the corner. Also, I went to a place before and they lost my telephone. It was a complete and different experience. I'd recommend Recovery Centers of America to others.

And when I got back for the check in, the lady was real nice. She asked me all the questions and it took about an hour long. Even so, it was fine and there was no problem. The staff there were nice, helpful and caring. My counselor, Joni, was really good and I liked her. She was very laid back. She let us talk and that was what we did in our group. The experience has definitely helped me. I'm clean and sober now. Overall, going to Recovery Centers of America has worked and they've been unbelievably great.

They had the experiences that I had with alcohol and drugs so they knew what I was talking about. It worked out really good for me. All of the staff was fantastic. I went right to another treatment place but I learned a lot then and it helped me a lot.

I’ve always been a social drinker but in the last few years it got worse and it started to scare me. I was gonna stop drinking on my own but I just couldn't do it. When I decided I needed treatment, my husband went online and looked to see what was compatible with our insurance. Recovery Centers of America got a good overall review.

RCA's place was very nice in appearance. I was very scared, very nervous and very ashamed, and they treated me very respectfully. I did appreciate that very much. The staff were very nice. I had a primary therapist and we met privately and in groups. She was very good. She got me to get outside my comfort zone. She was very fair and I think she really did a wonderful job with me.

They also have the rehabilitation support specialists. They were wonderful. They did groups and it really was a well-designed program from my experience. There was some complaining with some of the younger patients and it was mostly for good, because they weren’t able to socialize with the male population as much as they like. It was very well supervised. The reason I went there was I needed professional help and I’m not a professional so I took advantage of it. I did everything they asked me to do and I really learned a lot about myself and had wonderful experiences. I can’t tell how many wonderful people are employed there. I can’t say one negative thing.

Right now, I’m feeling very good. I also have very good family support. I think that’s very important. When I first came out, I got involved with AA right away, going to meetings and doing the steps. I initially got into what they call a PHP, which was partial hospital program and that was every day -- Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 2:30 and that was two weeks and now

I’m in what they call IOP, which is intensive outpatient program and I’m currently in my second week of that. That is Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 9:00 to 11:15. And I’m back to work. My work was very supportive of me and I’m very grateful. I had a case manager who handled all my insurance and my aftercare and they got me set up. I l left the rehabilitation center on a Thursday and I went right to the Malvern Institute. I did the interview there and then I asked if I could start Monday. I didn’t wanna start the next day because I just wanted to get acclimated. I wanted to get some meetings in and try to network a little bit. But they really were helpful. And I also had what they call a family therapist, which he was very wonderful in keeping me in touch with my family.

There was a five-day blackout period where you can’t really speak. If he was in the room, you could make a phone call on a speaker phone. There was never a privacy. But it was at least reassuring to be able to talk with family members. I really wanted to get better. I think some people go in RCA were either forced or court ordered and I think a lot of them, especially the younger ones,. And they’re very nice people even to the patients. They really gave a lot of bonding time. You really got to be in a relationship. It was really nice. I think some of the patients just were not happy and most of it had to do with regulations. But I thought all the rules were very fair.

I really appreciate my stay at the Recovery Centers of America. They did great work with me. I was pleased that they picked me up in an unmarked vehicle that didn’t reveal to my neighbors who was picking me up. And it was a nice car, so it could have been anybody, like someone taking me to the airport. It was cool that the car was filled with snacks that were decent. Plus, the driver was very nice and friendly. And when we arrived there, both staff and faces were very welcoming. The facilities where I stayed were gorgeous too.

They had a lot of wonderful staff people. And while they weren’t all perfect, I had a lot of staff members who went above and beyond to help me and support me and make my stay comfortable. There was a time when they changed my room, but the cleaning staff was busy so they forgot to clean the shower stall. I didn’t discover that until 11:30 at night and I didn’t want to clean it myself. It was really dirty because of some other client that was there before me so I said something to them. A nurse came, got on her hands and knees and cleaned the shower stall out. I was amazed that a nurse would do that.

Also, it was unsolicited but the same cleaning lady who had forgotten to clean that shower came back to me and profusely apologized. I didn’t expect that from her, but she pulled me up specifically to tell me about that. Because I was treated so nicely and it was such a nice facility, I can have less feelings of guilt and shame about what I've been through, which helped me stay focused and not beat myself up. But they could improve their group programming and cultural competence.

My wife called and researched, and 12 places would not take me because I was on a certain prescribed medication for three years. She found some woman who gave her an advocate’s number. She called RCA and it was Godsent. The facility was brand new and was really nice. Everybody there was professional and getting checked in was smooth. I got into my room and I slept the first few days because I passed out and the first night, I actually freaked out a little bit. But the facility director, Luke and Christina and all the way down to the RSS's, which handled us were unbelievable. Out of 100 maybe only one or two I didn’t get along with. Everyone that worked there was in the highest percentage you can ask for.

I’m on my 22nd day of my 90-in-90 with AA. I’ve just seen the difference of what people deal with an outpatient approach. First of all, when you get there to detox, they let you detox. It was not like getting ripped out of your bed and saying go. They brought me food because I wouldn’t move out of my bed eventually. In there I thought like they were moving us around too quickly and everything was limited and had time constraints because of the structure from the roll call in the morning, the evening stuff and everything in between but it all makes sense when you leave.

I'm from Long Island, New York and it took me almost 3 hours to get there. It’s a great business model and I told them they should use that and open those places all in the country. They brought in a therapy dog one time and the cafeteria offered everything you could ask for. There wasn’t one thing they missed. And I had an experience with Luke, who’s just a smart guy. He happened to just be in a place where I was in the situation and he pulled me aside. I didn’t know he was the director of the facility and the people on the top to the people to the bottom running the place, whatever role they filled, they really knew what they were doing.

The upper management people understood what they were doing and they were able to implement that, which is so important. RCA changed my life. Some crazy doctor put me on a medicine for three years and I couldn’t get off it. I have young kids. I have a wife and business. I have everything to come back to and live for and I was dying slowly and not knowing it. But it was an amazing 28 days with RCA. They gave me medicine the whole time because they needed to. But they’re also giving you vitamins and melatonin. They’re not overlooking the natural stuff that they could give. They had nurse practitioners evaluate when you don’t want to take something or you needed to be on something. When you needed help, they would be on it.

Not only that, my therapist, also dealt with my wife and not just monitoring me, but taking care of the outside people. So you’re away from your business in 30 days and your kids but to know that there’s a line of communication happening and it’s reassuring that you can do your recovery. When people get in there, some people are angry. Some people don’t wanna go there. But being in my mid 40’s and understanding life a little bit better, I’m fortunate that my wife didn’t get me into those first 12 places she called.

I got an email from RCA about alumni stuff and I’m so far away from the place that if I was closer like a lot of those people are I would have been back there to say hello. I actually missed some of the staff. It’s crazy because the RN, the people that have handled me are recovering addicts, like the RSSs and so you think you’ve been through it all and then people that have been there even worse have gone through it and when you’re maybe freaking out or having a damn moment, they pull you aside and they help you out. Maybe there’s one you didn’t get along, but again there’s a 100 you do and they were able to know what I was going through and they told me what I need to hear. It was so nice to have that. There are people like the therapist that haven’t gone through and gone to study this and they were just as good as well.

Recovery Centers of America can be found through Google search for good rehabs here in Philadelphia. I called some sort of help center and they referred me to RCA. The check-in process was quick, friendly, easy and hassle-free. They are very nice to me. They helped me out. I was sick and throwing up when I showed up. They didn't make me feel embarrassed or anything. They really made me feel okay with it, brought me trash can and brought me tons of foods, drinks, snacks, kept making sure I was okay. So they made me feel really welcome.

RCA helped clear my mind up through detox and through making me feel safe and comfortable there. So I stayed and just staying there opened me up to other people, let me explore my own thoughts, attitude, behaviors and stuff I was dealing to like cope with things and how I was doing it wrong. It just really let me essentially explore my mind in a safe, positive way. I really like the community especially the people. I don't know if they actually intentionally did it or what, but the community was really nice. And I would say that the patient advocates or patient managers really know what they're doing and they really point out the best things for you and you kinda realize that once you go through the process, that everything they said was best for you.

Recovery Centers of America is an awesome place. They have good food, great people and good coffee. The tech staff are really nice and personable. I would definitely recommend it to friends. I would tell them it's a little disorganized because they're still growing. Some of the supervisors are rude and need interpersonal training skills such as that woman, Patty. But since they're not interacting with us on a daily basis, I would say this place definitely goes if they're trying to get clean and sober and if they need to go to a place that also really helps them out with any sort of aftercare, which is important.

At first, it was kind of hard because I wasn’t used to certain rules being an adult, but it was necessary to keep pace in order with all the patients that were there, so I dealt with it and it was good. The staff and the nurse were very nice. Also, talking to the therapist that I had helped me a whole lot because of my emotions and problems. When I first checked in at RCA, it was late at night but the staff was extremely welcoming and super helpful. They were very warm and comforting. I walked in and the vibe was amazing. It was such a beautiful atmosphere. I didn’t feel the words “treatment” and “recovery”, which were scary in themselves and when I looked around, the surroundings were absolutely beautiful and clean. I felt like I was a decent human being. It was an awesome experience.

I did the 12-step program. And they looked into after care for me and they gave options. They have advocates for me all over the place but they have this do-your-own self-advocate as well. I talked good about RCA to everyone who is in need of information about treatment. RCA has great case managers to work with you along the whole way. My experience with RCA wasn't that great. Our time first time there, we went to have a family session, but Robin, the family counselor, had never met with my daughter. She didn’t know what she looked like nor how old she was. I was totally disgusted that they even wasted our time to have us come to a family meeting when she hadn’t even know why my daughter was there and what prompted her to come there. And it's their job to know the people that the insurance is paying them to take care of inside and out. So, I talked to their CEO Mike Stuart about all of that and he was very responsive once I got him involved. Also, the girl at the front desk was extremely rude. But other than her, the people in the facility who I've dealt with were very nice. My daughter also like the people there. They were able to talk her off the ledge a bunch of times and they were able to calm her down and make her think more clearly about things.

The facility used to be a hotel a couple of towns from where I live and it physically is very nice. However, it's unsecured. The doors are not locked, so you don’t need to buzz and anybody could walk in right off the streets. Two of the four times I went there, there was nobody at the front desk and I proceeded to wait at one time over 12 minutes before anybody came to greet me. Then in the front main foyer, people were just walking in to check in high. If I have smaller kids that were with me, it wouldn’t have been very good.

Another thing that bothered me the most was that RCA discharged my daughter on a Thursday and dropped her right back off at her boyfriend’s house who proceeded to get her high that night. She overdosed twice the succeeding days. There was no arrangement for her to continue on to a sober house or to continue to a halfway house. So, the facility letting her go home and putting her back in the same environment made me feel like they took $25,000 so much so I've called the insurance company, Med Health, and asked them to hold any payments until this has been all worked out. I thought it was kind of a scam. For $800 a day, they should have taken care of my daughter. Besides having great food and drinks, there needed to be a lot of very intense commitments and therapy which didn't happen.

I also had asked RCA to watch her there 30 days and work with her to get some things accomplished while she was there including getting her back on Med Health because her Med Health had expired and she was qualified for it as a secondary and getting her a new dentist. When she was discharged that Thursday, they sent her home with meds which were not preapproved through Med Health. Then when I had known she had shot up that Friday, I went to CVS to get the prescription because she didn’t have any money, the prescription was about $50.

That Friday was before the Memorial Day weekend. I was on the phone with RCA in Philadelphia and then the RCA up here was trying to get a nurse practitioner to call to get it pre-approved. I also got Mike Stewart involved since it was ridiculous because it would be a long weekend and every time I went I have to pay, so by the time the weekend was over, it would be $250 for a prescription. RCA told me they've called it in, but when I went back to CVS Saturday, it was still not called in, so I ended up paying for all weekend long and then had to get all the paperwork and submit it for reimbursement.

Still, I would recommend RCA. I've gone through a lot of counseling myself so I'm a firm believer. You got to give everybody a second chance. This is my daughter's fifth time in rehab and we've spent over 50 grand sending her to Florida. I'm hoping at some point she’s gonna get it, but I know RCA is working with her currently to get her back in there when she reached high point. I'm hoping this time around will be more productive.

I was referred to Recovery Centers of America during the time I was struggling. Their reception was warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, I've been to a lot of treatment centers. And compared to other ones I've been, this was a little bit more hospitable and a lot more friendly. It wasn't the same sterile kind of hospital room feel I got. Somebody came and picked me up at my house, which was amazing. And the guy who picked me up, I actually became quite close with while I was there. So literally from beginning to end of the experience, it was quite nice.

I came in with a hatred towards a Higher Power and 12 Steps and was not even thinking about going towards the 12 Steps because recovery centers bases their motto after the 12 Steps, which I've come to find my way back to. Somebody gave me different versions of the 12 Steps, told me other ways to recovery and were very supportive of whatever direction recovery I was going. I wanted recovery, they didn't care what kind. They were willing to back me up on it.

The mere fact that everybody was in recovery for themselves and I could identify with them, was a lot more becoming of the place because they know where I'm at. You're not just somebody who's reading things out of a book. You've been through the trenches, you've been through the hell and back, you've been drilled to the mud and came out clean on the other side. That's what I was looking for. Through the experience I learned to apply myself more. I was just so beaten down that I was ready to come to any way of getting better. The fact that they had better accommodations and people are more supportive made the whole experience a lot better.

I'm used to state run facilities where I have to sleep with my stuff under my pillow and worry about getting into a fight on a daily basis. With RCA I had my own queen-size Tempur-Pedic bed and my own cable. These are small things that you shouldn't really worry about in recovery but it made me feel more like a human during the whole process. I didn't feel like just another patient, just another drug addict trying to go through the rigors and applying some 12 Steps.

The gentleman who drove me there, Dave, started up on a rescue meeting and they had a bunch of beds. When I was there, it was still being built, so I was one of 30 or 40 patients. And I heard it gotten much bigger. I previously worked in ENS I would urge them to press that issue more for people who were military, fireman, EMT, paramedics, police, to push those types of meetings a little bit more because as much as we all identify as alcoholics and addicts, there's another level. There were certain things in the rescue meetings that I could say that I couldn't say at any other meetings without people looking at me sideways.

The fact that they boast that and they have certain meetings for people who were in ENS and recover, I hope they can stand firm and stand strong with that a lot more because I think a lot of firemen and cops, they have that kind of tough, stoic attitude like, "I don't need the help. I'm the people that help people." They show like, it's okay for you to show weakness. There's other people who were in the same field as you doing the same thing. I don't know if that extends to any other RCA's but the RCA Devon that I was at, that was a huge factor in my recovery. I'd definitely recommend it.

It has been 65 days since I got out from rehab but I’m still not in IOP and Luke doesn’t even take my phone calls now. I'm still clean but I should have completed my aftercare by now. It’s pretty crucial. There were some really good things but a lot of times, I had group all day and they only had three months clean time. It’s a new facility and all the stuff is getting worked out. But I would tell somebody to go back there because it was really nice.

My experience with Recovery Centers of America was pretty well. Everything went according to plan. I was greeted immediately when I arrived. They took all my stuff and I got escorted in the back right away. I went through all the processes and everything went smoothly. Everyone was very nice to me right down to the maid service which was unbelievable. And since I got out, everybody has been checking up on me so I'm letting nobody down.

It was a whole different kind of detox there. The accommodations were incredible so that put me at ease right away. I got my own shower, bedroom and TV. They had nice shirts and pajamas. I was treated like a human being instead of some cow in a pasture. Everything I could have asked for was there like washers and dryers. All the classes went by and I learned everything. There were state of the art gyms. It was just the way it should be run.

The staff at Recovery Centers of America was kind and courteous. I had great interactions with them. They were very informative and I liked the fact that their recovery support specialists are former addicts in the Recovery as well so it was easy to talk and to relate to them. I also liked that we did a patient-led Big Book Study every night. That was very useful. I'm 38 years old and I've been in addiction for 20 years. This is the first time in 20 years that I think I'm overcoming the addiction because of RCA and because of the hard work I've been putting into going to meetings. Recovery really got it through our heads. There was a lot of education that I did that was very valuable.

I didn’t really know what RCA stood for but I heard people mentioning it over and over. Then, when I was trying to go somewhere else, my insurance changed so they were out of network. I just threw out RCA knowing that it was in the area and I'm really glad that things worked out the way they did. They were exactly what I needed this go-around. And I think they did a phenomenal job.

It wasn’t easy going through the experience, but their staff and facility were great. Checking in was pleasant. Unfortunately, I was already starting to go through withdrawal and getting sick by then, but they did their best to help me through the process. Also, I know the clinical director. He was my counselor 12 years ago so I had that welcoming, knowing that I had a connection there. Overall, the intake process was smooth. The accommodation was like a hotel and could not have been better. I had also gotten to see the doctor first thing the next morning and had gotten the meds straightened out. My counselor, Tiffany, was exceptional and the clinical director, Luke, was another great experience all around. He knew that I like to try and manipulate people. He stepped in and did what he needed to do to help me get through the rehab.

My previous attempts going to rehab had been almost fun, which is not the right mentality. It's weird because I go back to RCA on a regular basis to help out doing stuff and I would never have thought that I would’ve wanted to go back to the place after spending 30 days there. It's a testament to how I feel about it. I go back there every Sunday to do the spirituality service. I play the piano for them. I also go back Thursday nights for the alumni meetings. I'm trying to be as involved as I can stay. It adds another whole layer of accountability, which I need right now.

My overall experience at the Devon facility was a good one. The medical attention alone was invaluable and much-needed. The nursing staff was outstanding and diligent, especially Andrea, Carol, Colleen, and Val. Dr. ** was the single best doctor I have ever interacted with. Many of the RSS staff were outstanding as well, including Charles, Joel, Matt, and Jason. But I also suffered the effects of a sort of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" syndrome during my stay.

Well before my second week in residence the pressure for “aftercare,” something I had heard nothing about, was ramping up. After initially being assured by my case manager, Matt, that I was a “grown man” and that there would be no “finger twisting” with regard to this, things soon changed radically. I found the pressure for aftercare immense and relentless, especially when I met with Meg, my "therapist," and Matt at the same time. They masterfully worked together in a well-rehearsed routine that left me feeling helpless.

Meanwhile, Meg never once discussed issues of anxiety, depression, “triggers,” spirituality, family relations, self-esteem, life satisfaction, sadness, etc. with me. She never once contacted my wife for any sort of "therapy." She had “the plan” in place from the get-go. And she was a master manipulator. One of her favorite tricks was to pit group therapy members against one individual in the group prior to a meeting. It was beyond obvious when this was happening. On a meeting where we discussed aftercare—specifically PHP—I learned from others about its great benefits and that I didn’t seem committed to AA. The most manipulative move Matt and Meg made was to call me into Matt’s office and to promptly call my wife making it a conference call. Of course I wasn’t prepared for this move. Feeling deflated and betrayed, it turned out to be a low-point of my entire experience at RCA.

The inordinate stress and anxiety--and ultimate lack of trust--this caused me was debilitating and it is the last thing a client needs to deal with. Once I found out upon returning to work that my RCA paperwork had not been completed (specifically my "fitness to return to work"), even after leaving a message for Mary **, I was literally moments away from contacting my attorney. Causing stress through manipulation and deceit is one thing, causing difficulties for my career is quite another. I understand that the recovery industry has become a profit-driven enterprise, and that there are financial and career incentives for aftercare from the top down, and that one hand washes the other, but my experience with Meg and Matt was unacceptable.

And I stayed the full 30 days because the staff helped out and it's a lot easier to talk to staff when they're addicts or alcoholics themselves, instead of someone with just a degree telling me what to do. RCA has very clean and nice facilities as well. The groups that I went to were very good. They place you in the process groups where you could get really vulnerable and be able to relate to a peer who had dealt with the same stuff you did. The 12-step program was awesome. It taught me that I got to be able to do things I don't want to do. I got to try new things and I have to stay vulnerable and honest every day.

I was in withdrawal so my husband called the number associated with Bracebridge Hall, and then we received somebody from Recovery Centers of America. When I got there, they neglected to tell me that I would need to bring brand new things like toiletries and everything should be unopened as well. None of my toiletries had alcohol in them and they were very, very expensive. So I was a little upset about that. Also, they did not tell me that I was going to be strip-searched. I expected to be searched, but not treated like a prisoner. I would have been better prepared had the person on the phone told me about that.

Somebody from admissions was supposed to meet me around 11, but we didn't meet until around 1:00, so I just sat in the nurse's office from 8:30 to 1:00. The nurses were very pleasant and the facility was very clean and nice. The staff was very welcoming. My therapist Mike was wonderful, and the kitchen was great. The chefs were great about setting aside vegetables for me that weren’t cooked in butter and oil, even though the cooking staff was an outside source. The environmental services team worked themselves very, very hard to keep the place looking nice. All of the RSSes were good, except for Herb. He had an attitude and he didn't like any of us. I took this to the upper management when he started to pick a fight with a resident. He was purposefully enticing this person.

I've gotten a lot of tools from them. I’m still reading every day and I’m going to meetings. I’ve taken some of the things I did there and have incorporated them into my life that I need to do daily. I’ve gotten some tools to handle situations that may come up, that may set me, or may have made me want to drink. And I’ve been able to deal with them appropriately. It was a great facility, but they need to do some upkeep at Bracebridge Hall. My room there was the stinkbug room. I ended up bringing a couple of stinkbugs home with me, which I wasn't pleased with. But overall, Recovery Centers of America was able to help me find different tools to use instead of alcohol when things bothered me.

And that's very important but I would add males and females back together in more groups because it's good getting the other sexes opinion on certain subjects. There's so much one can get from other guys. And also, I hope they would add more process groups. There weren't many processes going on. We had primary once a day, but it would be important to add some groups that kind of really get down to the meat and potatoes. Other than that, my experience was great. So the receiving process wasn't too smooth at first, but it was okay after that. All the staff were very professional and everyone acted in a proper manner. I also like the everyday structure. Everything was well-structured out and there wasn't a lot of downtime during the week. I was very busy except for the weekends but that was understandable. It was like we needed some downtime too so the weekends were our time basically. We can't stay there forever either. We have to go back out in the real world eventually and they gave us all the tools that we needed for our own post-treatment. It was just up to us.

I was in Long Island and I was Googling Dual Diagnosis or co-occurring centers in the area. And the website for Recovery Centers of America looks really good. It made it really stand out and it seemed impressive. So, I called them. They didn’t have a bed at Lighthouse but they did at Devon location. It was a nice facility but the admission lady didn't know what she was talking about. I told he certain tings go her and she just gave very judgmental responses, which was extremely unprofessional. It was a miserable experience, but everybody else was good. The staff really cared about the patients. They would go out of their way to do stuff for us. My therapist was incredibly smart and I could tell that she really cared.

They separated genders while we were there and I got the whole reasoning behind it. But it just got pretty ridiculous because there were times where they would let us talk to the girls and then they would pick random times where they would not let us talk to them. So they let us establish a relationship with them, and then they would tell us that we can’t talk to them anymore. And then they would let us again and it was back and forth like that. And from a lot of 12-step meetings, I found that a lot of the women actually had more in common with me than the men. It's a little recovery-based relationship and I wished that I could get to know them and talk about things. Other than that, I was pleasantly surprised how it went. This was my first treatment center and I wasn't expecting it to be that nice. I’m in another treatment center right now because I need a little more than a 30-day program. But it was a great first step.

The staff at Recovery Centers of America was awesome. They were very accommodating and the house, Bracebridge, is awesome. I was lucky I was in the double room, but I was pretty much by myself for most of the time. It was pretty cool. My only problem with the room was that the air conditioning in my room was kind of just screwy. Also the roof was leaking in the library, so the library was closed out, and that was one of our favorite rooms. Another was that we didn’t get a lot of time outdoors during winter and some of us really wanted to.

The staff members that helped me the most were some of the RSSes. For nighttime it was Kelsey and she was awesome. She got out of her way to talk to a bunch of us and just make sure that we were all doing all right. And then throughout the days were Alvin and Lizzie. RCA set me up with a recovery house and to get the mindset back on. I feel like I also got a lot more out of talking to other clients there than my therapist. And some of us are actually still staying in contact, and just the accountability really helps.

I am writing this review for Recovery Centers of America Danvers and to share my experience and to let others know what a horrible experience I had. It was probably one of the worse in my life. I went into this facility in hopes to ending my addiction to ** and **. I had an extremely high habit with both and was prone to seizures due to my ** habit. I was actually hospitalized for 3 days before entering the facility. The nurses and doctor were aware or this. Many of the nurses did not know what they were doing and were talking about their outside problems and bringing their problems into work with them which in turn affected their work performance. Some of the nurses were great, especially one male nurse who went to bat for me. After 2 days of being at the facility I was sent to Beverly Hospital due to having such high blood pressure and heart rate.

After I was released from the hospital, I still did not feel right. I felt as though I was about to have another seizure, thankfully I didn't, but I was having the tremors and to be honest I was feeling really unsafe. I also had to deal with my roommate getting in trouble. That made me really uncomfortable to have some random man in my room while I was sleeping and these individuals faced no consequences and were still allowed to stay there. I even witnessed and heard inappropriate conversations with patients and staff.

My health continued to plummet as my stay went on. I found out later that a young man had died not even a month before I entered the facility. It took almost a week for the doctor to see me. The doctor was unprofessional and the only reason I was able to see him was because the male nurse fought with him for me to be seen. I told the doctor and nurse practitioner I no longer felt safe staying in the facility. They sent me out AGAIN, this time to Mass General. I was told that they had set it all up so I would be able to be put on ** instead of the ** protocol that RCA had me on that obviously was not working. When I got to Mass General, they had no knowledge of any of this. RCA Danvers made me feel unsafe and I watched several other patients leave to go to the hospital and be put in harm's way.

After leaving RCA I found out not even two weeks later there was a death of another man. That's two deaths in less than a year. The addict and the addict's family should have HOPE and feel safe that their loved one is getting help. I would never come back to this place and would never recommend this place to anyone. Apparently, they are under new management but the place was very unorganized and chaotic when I was there. Maybe it has changed, maybe it hasn't... But I would never take the chance on going back there. Detox is there for you to get help, not for you to worry about your well being.

After the program, I went to after-care programs, which they set me up with directly. It put the foundation down for me so when I got out, I was able to make relationships of my own in sobriety. I had entered Recovery Centers of America Danvers towards the end of July 2017. This was the worse experience in my life. I came into the program wanting to get help for my addictions and all that happened was me being set up failure, and I also felt completely unsafe in the facility. I was one of the most high risk patients there due to having a high ** habit along with having an ** habit as well. As my stay went on, I did not get better, I only got worse both physically and mentally. One male nurse who was extremely good at his job even spoke to the doctor and said he needed to address my physical state immediately because my vitals and blood pressure were extremely high. He had also told the doctor that if I was not seen and this issue wasn't addressed he said he had a bad feeling something bad was going to happen. Not even 24 hours later I ended up having a seizure and was rushed to Beverly hospital.

The night before I had the seizure I was up all night telling the nurses something was not right and they did not do anything. I remember that night watching TV at the edge of my bed and waking up on the floor. I felt as though I had lost time. After I was released from the hospital, the doctor finally saw me. He was extremely unprofessional and called me his "seizure boy". I witnessed several patients have seizures as well. There was sexual misconduct amongst patients and there was inappropriate conversations amongst patients and staff! One nurse even came in talking about fighting with her boyfriend and was putting the blood pressure cuff on wrong and getting wrong results for vital signs. It wasn't until the male nurse I had mentioned before caught it and had to recheck patients' vital signs.

I finally had said enough is enough and asked to be sent somewhere that would take care of me. They finally agreed, or so I thought because they had got all of my belongings and then told me I was not going anywhere and gave me ** IM. The facility had left my phone and wallet that had money and credit cards in there up at the nurse's station all night. Thank God nothing was taking. Out of not feeling safe, hearing of the death of a young man that happened not long before I entered the detox, and seeing other patients be put in harmful situations I decided it would be in my best interest to leave.

I found out a few weeks after I had left another person had passed away in this facility. My prayers go out to both families. I know first hand how patients were treated, including myself, and the incidents there should have been prevented if the doctor and staff knew what they were doing. Some of the nurses were great, but unfortunately I would never recommend this place if it were open. You and your family should feel safe that you are in a detox getting help... Not the opposite!

RCA was closer to home when I first went there and I’ve been there three times. When I first went to the Danvers facility in Massachusetts, the arrival was good. The first time I went to Westminster my intake wasn’t long at all. Then this last time I went, it was very long and I was very cold. They wanted me to sit by a window that was cold. But then they got me a blanket so, it was all right. I wasn’t feeling good and I just wanted to go lay down. But it definitely took a lot longer than it should have. But I was also grateful that they flew me from Florida back to Massachusetts so I could get treatment. I was grateful for that.

Their staff is great. A lot of them are in recovery themselves and they know a lot. Then a lot of them have family members that are in recovery as well. They’re really there for us. The program got me ready to leave. RCA is a great space. The food’s great, beds are comfortable and the groups are good. I wish they have faster intake and it shouldn't take four hours. Some of the nurses weren’t that good. But there are nurses that were on point with everything when it came to medications.

My experience with Recovery Centers of America was great. I was not accepted into any other rehab center. They told me that I didn’t drink hard enough since I didn’t drink every day in 30 days. I only drank one time. Also, the insurance at Recovery Centers of America was handled well while another place wanted $11,000 upfront, which I didn’t have. The arrival at Recovery Centers was good. The vicinity was only four hours away and the driver was really cool. And when I got there, Christine was the RPC that took care of me for the check-in and she was wonderful. It was on New Year’s Eve and I came in late. I got there 10:30 at night and the service there was good.

Lisa was my primary and she was amazing. She needs a raise. And there was Joaquin, the supervisor or the team leader, who was at night shift. He was also amazing. I’m only allowed to talk for 10 minutes a day and it made me worried once I realized where the hell I was and what had been going on. But the staff at Recovery Centers made the whole accommodation for me, to make me feel welcome and work on myself since I called for a reason. Connie, an RCP, and Sarah, the nurse manager, were phenomenal. And another staff did the church ceremony. However, I had a problem with one of the staff and I filed a grievance against her. She needs to lose her job because she doesn’t talk to the other staff well. She was horrendous and does not belong working in a rehab facility nor people with any kind of disability. But other than that, the experience went well.

I’m more of a binge drinker that goes on three or four binges a year. But I had grown up with alcoholic parents and my father was an addict. So, it’s definitely in my genes. Whether I binge drink or I drink every day doesn’t matter. But I would never have accepted it until I had the counseling and the therapy. That was the way I was saved. The outside meetings were so tremendous in my recovery since it was an eye-opener for me. I have a very successful position and I’ve made a life for myself as more like a functioning alcoholic, where I could never have accepted that part of me. Till this day, I go to their online meetings. I’ve accepted it and that was because of RCA. Had I not been there, I probably would have been out doing the same thing as before. I went to church, but I was going to church for somebody else. But at RCA, I worked solely on myself. So, the whole experience, from start to end, was amazing. I’m so thankful I went there.

The arrival experience at RCA was rough because getting a bed was a problem. They sent me out from the medical hospital and it looked cleared. I was told there was a bed for me and I was waiting for transportation at the hospital but they never showed up and they never picked me up. They gave the bed away and left me there. Then, they said that there was a bed at the facility in Pennsylvania, but I had a warrant for me at that point so I couldn't leave the state. I’m from Boston and I was left driving to Western Massachusetts, which is a good hour ride. At 2:00 in the morning, my dad had to drive out from Boston to Western and pick me up. The next day, we were told there was a bed so he drove out to Westminster, which is an hour and a half ride. But the bed was gone so he drove home.

Finally, on Friday, they came and picked up so it was four days of commuting out to either Westminster or Western, trying to get a bed. Eventually, I got one but once I was there, the process wasn't very smooth. Worse was they left me at the hospital and no one told me. I was just sitting at the hospital waiting. It sounded like I was at home though I wasn't. I was left at the hospital and getting out of a psych ward so I didn't feel very good about myself. But the intake was great. It was a bit of a long process but that was fine.

My experience at RCA has equipped me to be successful in my post treatment and I am doing an IOP, which is great. My case worker, Steven, was a really nice guy but the caseworker position felt like they were a professional Googler. Everything he did, I could have done ten times quicker if I had access and everything felt a lot longer because I was using a middleman to get things done. There were issues with claiming my IOP for the insurance company and he said, "I don't know if they take your insurance," so I went right to the head of billing and she took care of it. We got it all done on the phone. I also had to call the IOP one day and I did it all. It was more of a hassle having a caseworker than doing it myself.

There was also this guy named Chris who was the head of the recovery and he was insulting and rude. He yelled at us and was nasty. We had a really negative experience with him. Primary process is by far the most useful group of today but it was like they were taking us out of it to have this guy. He was a Philadelphia businessman and stockbroker who thought he was funny, but he wasn't. He was being very demeaning. He wasn't professional and is not someone that RCA would really want representing their brand to the consumers. At the end of the day, it was a business and we were still there paying to deal with our insurances, but he really was a turn off to the point where they had a meeting with him and that also went south.

I sat down with Val, who was the coordinator, and she was receptive and wonderful. The first thing she said was that the guy's views did not reflect that of RCA. I sat down with her for 20 minutes and we had a great conversation. She was apologetic, the way she spoke to me and to the entire group. And then, they had a guy come in the next day and he was there to get feedback from us but didn't want to listen to anything we had to say. Then, the guy who came in on the third day was far more receptive and talked to us on our level.

My arrival at Recovery Centers was good and the people there helped me out. They were very nice and the techs were very supportive. But outside of the groups, they would always come and interact with me one-on-one, just to check in with me and see how I was doing.

I’ve been to some places where there were a lot of people court ordered and it has that institutionalized mentality, but Recovery Centers didn’t have that. The room was nice and had a TV. It was comfortable and laid back as far as the housing aspect of it. The food was great as well. It felt like home. Overall, Recovery Centers of America was a great place and I’m happy I chose them. My experience with Recovery Centers of America has been awesome. I saw them on the web when I was looking for detoxes. When I spoke to the first person, they hit me with a price. So, I said, "Well, this must be like one of those guppy places where high-end people go”. When I arrived there, it was high end, but they take the program very seriously. They take people’s recovery very seriously and they're more technical into it. It's like they know what they are doing, very professional and no profanity, like in the other places. I was sweating, and it was raining outside. And since I had to use when I arrived, they were very concerned. They kept asking me and they were going back and forth. So the orientation took a little longer. But they made me feel very comfortable. I felt at home and I could have fallen asleep on the waiting room.

The staff there asked me if everything was okay and did I need any help. They also asked if I have any allergies, did I take any medicine and did I bring my meds. They told me that they would have to search my clothing to make sure that I didn't bring anything just for my safety and everyone else's. They were so nice. They were not like giggling on the side or joking. They were all focused. The way they spoke to me and explained things to me has given me a better outlook in life. This time around they have really opened my mind, and the way I look at things is very different. Nothing comparable.

Recovery Centers of America is local for me. I had a good experience with them when I got the sobered IOP there. I liked that they had knowledgeable people there that worked at programs themselves. I’ve seen some of them at outside meetings because I was in the program before. They did more AA meetings than NA meetings and I liked that there were a lot of staff that work NA. Most of them were very helpful with a lot of questions I had. And some of the staff weren’t very compassionate but they were not mean. For the most part, I loved it. And when the staff passed by, they all said hi to me and hugged me. They even brought me good food.

I have been using Recovery for a month and a week since I left. Although, I did not have a very good experience with the family counselor I had. He was not very knowledgeable about Narcotics Anonymous at all. He was telling me stuff that was completely frowned upon with Narcotics Anonymous. The counselor was good when it came to couple’s therapy and working on our defects but just some of the things he was saying were not accurate. So, I felt they needed to do a little bit more research on the steps and how they worked. Out of a lot of the treatment centers I have been through, Recovery is the one I would recommend.

I had a very good experience with the center in Westminster of Recovery Centers of America. It took me a while to get admitted but it wasn’t bad. They got me in to my room and the nursing staff on the floor and the RSS were all absolutely amazing and very helpful. They were always there for anything you need. The one big thing I had was about getting MAT. They ask you in the beginning if you’re interested in MAT and I was very interested in a particular drug. Everyday I would mention that to the nurse on the floor or the RSS staff and they said they would send me an email. But it doesn’t happen. My therapist sent multiple emails and talked to them personally. She even showed me the email that she sent just because she wanted to let me know that she did her part. There were only a few nurse practitioners there and you can’t just go talk to them.

In the end they got me on the oral form but they never followed up. They never got me a shot before I left even when I got a seven-day extension to get it. I was wondering if it was an insurance problem but my insurance covers the shot. Toward the last few days all I wanted was to know why it didn't happen but they couldn't even do that. I wasn’t even able to talk to someone.

I left there with the oral form but it’s not something that you want especially for someone in early recovery. It’s not easy because you technically have to get in another treatment center. It’s almost like you have to do an outpatient program to get the shot with the way they get it set up around here. There was a lot of extra crap that I had to do. They told me they were going to get it for me before I left and it never happened. I ended up getting the shot on my own.

I’m not the only one either. At least 50% of the people there had the same type of complaint while I was there, whether it was with the drug or any other problem that they had. As a matter of fact I go to NA meetings and there was a guy who must have been there a couple of weeks before I did and he had the same exact problem. He could not get the shot before he left there and he still hasn’t got it. He’s going through all those crap to try to get it. It’s crazy.

I didn’t do the shot and I ended up relapsing and it was the same in May. Even just getting the generic oral one before I left almost didn’t happen. I ended up getting it on the morning just as my discharge in May. I was on it from the beginning though. I actually sat down and talked to a nurse practitioner. She said she was going to order me one that day and I would have to be on it for three to four days, they they could give me the shots. I was on it the whole rest of the two weeks and never talked to someone again. That was my biggest complaint but other than that it was a great experience. The room was so nice and the food was good. It’s an absolutely awesome facility there. It’s a great place to go for a treatment.

I had an overall amazing experience at RCA's Lighthouse location. The building and physical amenities were well beyond what I could have hoped for. The treatment I received while here was excellent. Not only did I learn more about my addiction and its underlying causes, but I gained the tools necessary to keep it in remission as long as I actively work at it. While pretty much all of the staff was polite, respectful, and informative, I'd like to make a few special thanks. First and foremost, I'd like to thank my primary therapist Taj - I was truly blessed to have been put with the very best counselor in the facility. She was always available whenever I needed her, she was never late, and the only the day she missed was due to the snowstorm. I was comfortable with her from the very beginning and as a result, I was able to open up to her about several things I had never discussed with anyone before; all of which she helped me work through.

With regard to the recovery staff, I'd like to make specific mention of John **, Sue, Mike **, Miss K, Big BOB, and Dante - all of whom took extra time to sit down and speak with me about a range of issues ranging from recovery to personal matters. Words cannot express how grateful I am to each of them. In addition to the recovery staff, I'd also like to thank Ali, Ramona, and Ray for all of their help in their supervisory roles - any questions and/or concerns were dealt with in great fashion. The nursing/medical staff were all top notch and again I'd like to highlight a few of their "rock stars". Nurses Kim, Krysta, and Cailyn, as well as Kim ** and Crystal were absolutely phenomenal. Not only are they all great at their jobs, but they each made every day a joy to be here for me in their own special ways.

Finally, I'd like to make an extra special thanks to Dawn. I couldn't imagine a better Clinical Director in the world. Not only did she handle any issue I had with the utmost care, but she's pretty much the most awesome person in the world... Like seriously... Whatever you're paying her, she deserves a raise! Either way, I'm grateful for every single day I spent here - Lighthouse basically saved my life.

I was not happy with the medical end of things here and believe that needs were not met. Also my individual therapy never happened and counselor was absent a lot so didn't get a lot of small group while here which I believe is one of the most important parts. The people at Recovery Centers of America were very friendly, and my experience upon arrival there was pleasant. I’ve also been in a lot of programs so Recovery Centers of America felt almost homey. Everything was run well, besides the nursing department that could’ve used a little bit of help. They have protocols so I had to follow them. But sometimes, it was tough because some of the patients didn’t understand why they could not or could get the same medication. It was kind of confusing sometimes. Also, it seemed like there were a few mistakes with medications. There were times when I had to take out my own medications, which was completely fine but other people don’t normally do that. And then, there was one time when they gave me one of my medications twice. It wasn’t a medication that would harm me but it matters to me.

They were a little bit more laidback than other programs. Some people might think that it is a negative thing but for me, it was positive because, at certain times when I was feeling down or I wasn’t feeling well, I could relax rather than worry about missing some activities with certain groups. They still tried to push me to go, but it was not like they were forcing me to do certain things. They were also good at setting up aftercare, and they set me up with an IOP.

I also went to the facility in Devon, PA but they were not as organized as the one in Mays Landing which was way more attentive to legal issues. It’s one of my most important issues when I get to a place like that, and I know based on me and my friends' experiences that Devon was just not good at dealing with that. I now have a renewed faith that this company has the best of intentions and operates a business that is very difficult as each person has a unique set of circumstances.

They almost killed me. I had 3 seizures in July which the nurses called "panic attacks." During one my pulse was over 150. I am in the process of signing with a lawyer. Dr. ** never came to see me once. I even called multiple times after. No return call. They finally rushed me to a hospital, called my wife and told her I was having seizures. I continued to be in massive pain for a month. Find somewhere else to go if you want to better your life.

A colleague in my work union went through Recovery Centers of America before and he found it to be helpful. As he told me about it, I Googled it. I liked their cleanliness and their variety of services. It was important to me because if I’m going to be staying somewhere, I’d want it to be clean. All their staff, counselors, therapists, and everything went above and beyond and it was nice. All the dealings I had with their staff were positive and it was the best part of my stay there. They gave a lot of resources. I also met fellow people in treatment who were going through similar things and we created our own support network. The food was good too. I don’t plan on going back, but if I am or know somebody else that needs help, RCA is definitely a place I’d recommend to them. They gave me assistance at the time that I needed it.

I was quite scared when I came here as a 49 year old man. I've never been to a treatment center before, so the image in my head of what it would be like was frightening. However, everyone on staff at this place has been more than exceptional - from Miss K to the cleaning techs (Tish, Sabrina and Carla). The nurses always had my best interest - Yolonda was like having my mom here. Krista always made me laugh and I needed that more than anything. Mike always checking in with me. Every RSS is fantastic here, I could go on about these men and women for an hour or more. They are the 13th step in this place. Plus they have the patience of Saints. I only came across one nurse who was rude showed no patience and sleeps while working (Amy). I will tell anyone that needs help to immediately call RCA Lighthouse. Thank you all for saving Me!!

Bracebridge - Different staff very kind and friendly, RSS staff overworked spread too thin. Communication needs to be changed. So everyone gets the same information. Clean neat food. Great food. I didn't like that the schedule and rules change every day because it made it hard on the staff and confusion for the patients. This causes community disturbances.

I also requested a tour of sober house and will be returning home because I never received it. I will not return to Bracebridge if I ever am in need of treatment. My experience with Recovery Centers of America was amazing. The effects are still working because since the day I stepped in there to this day, I haven’t drunk or had any drugs. The layout itself is welcoming and the staff, with their professionalism, made me feel comfortable. I didn’t feel like I was being interrogated and it’s almost as though they were just happy to see me come in the door so I felt comfortable since the first night. I’ve been in another treatment facility last year. It was a very nice place, but I didn’t feel the same going into that facility as I felt going into Bracebridge. Bracebridge had a way of just making me want to know what the next day has to offer.

After a couple of days, the staff seemed to know my name and was happy to see me come around. Each staff that I met for the first time would approach me to let me know who they were and what their responsibilities were. I knew who to go to when I had different issues or questions. They were very personable. Plus, they have a wonderful CEO. She stops in and always explains when there are changes. It's great to see a CEO who comes in and speaks to us when we had that roundtable.

I felt like I was getting something done. When I came out of detox, it was as though they had me up and running. I really appreciate that they kept my mind into the program. Each day went by so fast since they kept me busy in groups. At first, I thought it was annoying, but then when I think about what I got out of it, it was necessary and it was worth it. I was taken to school and I learned a lot. Plus, I’m continuing with the outpatient. I’m on **, which they introduced to me, and I’m glad they did because it is a miracle drug. I haven’t had a craving yet and I’m not thinking about drinking. Even my wife can’t believe it. I have gotten so comfortable. I never had a week sober since I was 15. But now at 62, I have been able to do things that I’ve never done before. I’m more organized, I’m up early, and I’m ready to go without even a thought of a drink.

But that didn't happen until they got me to understand the urges I had, my cravings, the obsession, and all those things. They educated me on what to look out for. Now, here I am, sitting here at home watching my TV, with a Kobu order instead of a cold beer, and I’m enjoying it by myself. My son’s upstairs, my wife’s at work, and I’m where I’m supposed to be.

I wouldn’t recommend them to a lot of people because I respect their place so much. I know people who need treatment but I also know the people who wouldn’t appreciate the place. They would just cause more trouble than necessary. But I have a nephew and once he’s ready, I'm going to recommend Recovery Centers of America to him. He’s a good guy, but he's an alcoholic. He’s younger, he’d go in, respect the rules, stay and get what he should get out of it.

I’ve been at the Recovery Centers of America three times but this last time was my worst experience. I loved RCA the first two times because it was a lot more personable. This last time around felt more corporate-ish. I feel like it was less about the patient and more of a job than how it used to be when people really cared. There was a lot of different faces in the building now so maybe that’s why. But my mindset wasn’t 100% either this time. I just came in to get the crap out of my system and roll. Nurse Kim, though, went above and beyond. A lot of people did but Kim got my number one vote this time. She remembered everything about me from the last couple of times and she was extremely caring. She’s awesome and she deserves more recognition.

I was greeted, cared for appropriately and was made comfortable at the Recovery Centers of America. Everybody there was positive and seemed to be sincere about their job. I have medical issues and I wasn’t there for any type of street drug. I was there for abusing my medication. I have experienced having postmortem withdrawals and I didn’t know what I was going through. I mentioned it to somebody and they jumped right on it and figured out what was going on, and they took care of that situation. I was really pleased.

The place is gorgeous. It’s a big, old mansion and they have a whole bunch of very expensive furniture and artifacts, pictures, and all types of knick-knacks. At the capacity, if they had 60 or 70 people there, people don’t take care of stuff like that. I just thought a value in it because I guess I'm older but I'm sure as they move forward, they’ll figure that part out. They have vases and furniture in certain rooms with really good leather chairs. They also have a nice piano.

I've been to facilities where they don’t value that stuff. Kids write their names on things. I had to go somewhere and I went to Florida and all the pictures that they showed you on the website was a bunch of lies. When I got to RCA, everything that should be on their website, that’s what their place looks like. I see they’re doing additions to add more to it and they’re building all around it. What you see is real and it’s not a fake-out.

I understand they’re a fairly new site that they have. There were some things that they were working out. There were times when the staff wasn’t positive about where and what they should have had been doing. There was a small situation where they started to ask everybody to go to this one particular room. If there was somebody out there shooting guns and everything, we were in a round room. They have this great big table in the room and it’s all glass around. That wasn't the right place to send people if you thought there was some type of threat.

But they realized it and they handled it. They took care of it the next morning and it won’t happen again. I see their place being someplace that would probably grow in the future and once they get through all the little kinks that new businesses or new facilities have, it’s gonna be a good place. I also had a smaller incident where they weren’t sure where I was supposed to move. They told me to move to a room and the room wasn't quite ready but that’s expected. That was a communication gap.

I stayed there for two weeks and they’ve called me every week since I’ve left there. That wasn't my first time into a treatment center and I've never had that. I appreciate the fact that they reached out to me. The guys there are good. They feed you well, the place is outstanding and I've never seen anything like that as far as treatment. I needed to clear my head, clear my body and Recovery Centers of America handled that to the utmost. Overall, it was enjoyable, considering why I was there. I was made comfortable and at ease.

My sister's experience at Recovery Centers of America was a very needed experience and it has been positive. We were thrilled that when we did the intervention for her, she embraced the opportunity. Recovery Centers of America have a site that was geared toward the healthcare professional, nurse, first responder and she is a nurse. They’re also part of her insurance which is a big issue. But other than that, it is basically well-established and what I found online was impressive. I googled their online presentation and there was a gentleman who did a three-minute video. In terms of the overall program, their website is very well done.

The interactions we had when setting up the program went well. We went down and visit. We are up in New York and it was a four-hour drive each way. Everyone there was incredibly gracious and kind. My sister is a healthcare professional and she has a doctorate in nursing. She’s a very intelligent woman and was very comfortable in that environment. She was able to relate to the staff and they related to her. She seems to be doing well. In fact, we just spent Saturday evening together and she seems very committed to attending meetings. She said she was going out to breakfast Sunday morning with some of the people that she’s met at the meetings. I spoke to one of her daughters and asked how things are going at home. And she said, “Good.”

She’s using the courthouse, the AA meetings. She said it’s cute because she made a comment about one of the people that attend the meeting. The gentleman was in his 80’s. She goes to the different meetings based on time because she’s working. If she’s off a day, she might go earlier in the day. Yet, if she’s teaching that day and she’s not able to get to a meeting until 6 pm at night, she may attend a different town or a different site based on her schedule and her capability or ability to do so.

Overall a good experience. I was a little disappointed in the process groups and the lack of consistency with the therapists that ran them. Heard that the other group that had the same therapist running them every day had more interactions that made them more effective. I honestly would get more out of the meetings that I had with Mike in our 9 a.m. meetings, he always showed care and compassion to what we were going through. In terms of my primary therapist, I found her very useless. Others that I talked to had the same issues with her. With coin out I never did see her speak about her patients where the other therapists had great things to say about theirs. The RSS staff was amazing all around. Always available to talk and always had great advice.

Everybody at Recovery Centers of America went out of their way to make me comfortable. I started there on October 10 and the place was just phenomenal. They did their job, gave me the tools I needed to succeed in my recovery and all the staff members were very helpful and caring. Anytime I had an issue, whether minor or major, they went out of their way to make sure I was happy. The housekeepers were very courteous too and there was one girl from the cafeteria who bought blue cheese dressing for me with her own money when the cafeteria didn't have the dressing for over a week.

I had a pleasant experience there and although I'm no longer involved in their program, I still have contact with them. I tried another center in May but they didn't give me the tools I needed and it was run like a jail. It was just horrible and that was why I had a relapse. If they were able to give me the skills that Recovery Centers of America gave me, I wouldn't have had a relapse.

Bracebridge Hall was a great experience. I found a new way of life and freedom from my drug addiction. Everybody was extremely kind and loving and I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. I'll forever be in debt to everyone there. My primary therapist Carrie was extremely helpful throughout the whole process and really showed me the sensitivity and love that any person needs through this process. Peter, Judy, Jess, Al, Liz and Amanda were extremely helpful RSS Staff throughout the entire process. Peter showed his dedication to the NA program and added a dimension of spirituality which heightened my awareness through this time.

Jess was an amazing spirit who took the time to reach out to every patient, always stuck to the rules and dedicated her time to adding to the whole community's experience. She added a dimension of creativity and really helped patients get in touch with her fun, loving spirit. Judy was also a very helpful RSS who was like a grandmother in the process, guiding all the patients down the right path. Her positive attitude and spirit helped open my mind to a whole new perspective. Sarafina and Tiffany were loving spirits and reached a hand out to me when I really needed the help, and I will always remember their embrace. Overall I had a great experience at Bracebridge Hall and will forever be grateful to all the staff there. The way they run the program is amazing and I wouldn't change a thing. Being such a sensitive time in an addict's life, BH handles the entire process in such a respectable helpful manner.

The staff was caring and tried to meet my needs as best they could with my recovery in consideration. The process groups were large at times which made it more difficult to speak and express myself during them. There seemed to be a lot of miscommunications between staff and how they relay the information between themselves and among the patients which at times caused a lot of confusion. I was also told I would have a family therapy session and a psych evaluation and did not receive either. I understand Brace Bridge Hall was understaffed and they did the best they could. My overall experience for being in a rehab for the first time was a good one and I feel I got majority of the treatment I needed.

The overall experience was generally good. The facility is very well kept and is a beautiful campus. The fitness center is well equipped and there are a lot of opportunities for resident activities outside of just attending groups. There are many staff who seem to have the well being of the staff at the forefront of their minds at all times. On the other hand there are some staff that do not seem to have the proper sensitivity training for people going through the process of learning how to handle life after addiction. There is a deep need for reassessment of rule enforcement and how to properly discipline people. For people who come in suffering from deep shame, public shaming is not the best way to handle most situations.

There are a lot of good groups but it often feels like either the schedule is too packed or way too loose, not often anywhere in the middle. The food and dining services are very good, there is a good mixture of menu options available. The community that is made up by the residents is also extremely good as of now, everyone is very recovery focused and support each other. I appreciate what the institution has done for me, but it is clearly very young and has a lot of management and staff sensitivity issues that need to be worked out in the near future.

I'm quite satisfied with my time at Bracebridge. The counselors, and staff are solid across the board. For the most everyone is friendly and available whenever you need assistance. I understand it is a relatively new operation and going through some growing pains so there are occasional lapses in communication but nothing all that disruptive. The facility is quite beautiful albeit in a remote location so you can feel kind of trapped. It would have been nice to get offsite into civilization although I do believe they have occasional trips for outside meetings and to a salon if you are willing to pay for it. The food is ok, it would have been nice to have more options available other than scheduled meal times. Overall, ok place but room for improvement.

While staying at this location, I had a great time. I was able to get in touch with things I didnt know; however, there are some flaws in the program. While I am a diabetic and I carb count, the medical staff would not allow me to carb count. It took a week and a half to allow the change. Then some of the staff that does the wake up come storming in like the police.

Some of the staff show favoritism to patients that they like better than others. Before I got here, I was told I didnt have to worry about the $1500 payment, but with a few days before discharge, I was advised I had to make a down payment. While I had to be taken to the gatehouse for financial info, a staff held my phone the entire time and it was taken from me once I was done with a call. I understood that, but when a ** patient was in the van with me, he was able to keep his phone the entire time even to the point of putting it away on his own. To me it seemed that I was singled out due to me being **. Other situations have gone on at this location that would have a person ** feel terrible. There has always been an issue where if there is a rule then it's across the board, but thats not always the case when it comes to me. Overall, it's about my recovery, but some things are just not right.
