  • American Botanical Council (ABC)

Extremely disappointing experience with iHerb. I ordered 3 jars of 4th & Heart Original Ghee with Himalayan Pink Salt, 454 g (16 oz) each. However, I received 3 jars of only 255 g each. This is not what I ordered, and I paid for 454 g jars. I contacted iHerb customer service several times, but my complaint was rejected. What is especially disappointing is that iHerb did not offer a reasonable solution, such as refunding the price difference or providing a prepaid return label. I have been a customer of iHerb, but after this experience I am seriously questioning whether I can trust the company to resolve problems when an order is not fulfilled correctly. Check your orders carefully when they arrive. Very disappointing customer service and an unacceptable resolution to a straightforward problem.

I have been a long time customer and have a regular subscription to several products. Now iHerb is using UNIUNI for their deliveries and my deliveries are not arriving. I paid for expedited delivery on my last order thinking it would go to a different carrier. Nope. This carrier is legitimized porch pirates, except purchases don’t even make it to the porch. I have reported this problem to iHerb but the next delivery still went to UNIUNI. I will no longer buy from iHerb.

As others have said, I am a former Vitacost customer. Vitacost was recently purchased by iHerb. In attempting to try ordering for the first time from iHerb, I was reading product reviews at the iHerb site. It is quickly evident that there must be some compensation program for review writing, as 90% of the product reviews by customers there use almost the same banal, general, and essentially unhelpful expressions. This does not engender confidence in the products.

There are abundant descriptions here of incredibly poor service that seems to have only recently afflicted this company. Did Amazon have a hidden hand it buying up iHerb in order to orchestrate it's demise, so to completely obliterate any competition in the lucrative field of supplements? Not kidding. What else would explain these seemingly overt self-sabotaging practices of this dominant player in the supplement reseller field?

I used iHerb until 2018. I had switched to Vitacost because they had better prices on most items. Vitacost was great in every way. IHerb recently bought Vitacost and I have faced multiple problems:

Problem # 1. They offered a 30% discount on the Vitacost app to start an iHerb account. I understood the need. But the app link to do so never worked, after multiple attempts. A few days later, I received a Vitacost email (now owned by iHerb) offering a 20% discount, so I thought, it's not the 30% but, at least, I would save some on a several-hundred-dollar order. I followed the link from the Vitacost app and placed the order.

Problem #2. When trying to verify my order and check the details, the Vitacost app no longer worked. No information was available, including my personal info. I didn't have an iHerb account linked to my Vitacost account, so I had no way to check it on the iHerb site or app.

Problem #3. When my order arrived, it did arrive quickly, but there was one item missing.

Problem #4. Unlike Vitacost, iHerb customer service is terrible. The previous company, Vitacost, had a number you could call and a customer service representative always helped you quickly. With iHerb, Customers CANNOT talk to anyone because they DO NOT PROVIDE customer service via PHONE. To get help from their idea of customer service via their website or app, which I downloaded, you have to sign in. To do that, you must have an account. If I created an account, it would be a separate account from my order and would have nothing. I had no way of contacting Customer Service. I finally ran across a hidden email and sent them an email with pictures of the problem.

Problem #5. The box had a label noted “Relabeled,” and the tape on the box was to the far right of the seam. It didn't appear to have opened but it was barely taped shut. After a day and a half, I received an email response saying they would not replace the missing item, but they would refund my card in 7-10 days. They added that if I wanted to re-order the item, I could do so. What that meant was, you’re going to lose the 20% that you should’ve had on that item. And you’re going to have to order more than that item to meet the “free shipping” minimum order. This also means I have to watch and make sure the refund is actually put on my card.

Problem #6. They did have a chat link to use to communicate with customer service, which I tried several times from the app, but it continually knocked me back telling me I had to log in again - and again - and again. I think I logged in three or four times before I finally gave up.

Needless to say, Vitacost will truly be missed. I am sorry that they sold to a company that will not treat their customers as they did. Anytime there was a problem, Vitacost took care of it so I didn’t have to lose time and money dealing with them. I have bought several thousand dollars of products from Vitacost a year. I appreciate discounts for incentives to buy from a company, but frankly, the stress of dealing with iHerb is not worth it. I don’t like dealing with any company that cares more about making money than they do about having good communication with their customers and making orders right when they have erred.

I have been a loyal customer to shop on iHerb for my quarterly supplement purchase. iHerb was doing great until recently (I believe they started going downhill after buying Vitacost over early this year) and the dawn of AI chatbot is absolute garbage. I'm really curious who the heck in iHerb's management team approved this junky, immature, half-baked AI chatbot to replace human entirely. It does literally nothing than providing an actual useful resolution to customers. If I had one word to describe your decision, it's abysmal, hence contemptible. Could of given -5 stars if there's an option. Good luck with your nonsensical business model without proper blueprint, am sure you will lose a lot more customers down the road.

Mr. Michael W **- You are supposedly paid money to analyze the "digital experience" of iHerb. As you can see here, the consensus is that iHerb has ruined Vitacost and the chatbots are beyond useless. To call this "business" is laughable since your website fails to process orders, fails to have any path to resolution of issues caused by your own backend processing, and ultimately wastes the time and money of hundreds of thousands of would-be customers. Your paycheck should go back out to all the Vitacost customers whose time and money you've wasted.

It has been a huge waste of time trying to get my Vitacost products as well as try iHerb products. I do not know how they stay in business when they cancel every order. They are inept. You can not talk to a person in customer service. The chat bot is useless. You cant talk to a live agent in chat. The bot sends an escalation email to I guess the help desk. The email response is that it could take up to 48 for them to respond. I want to order my products and have them arrive in a timely manner. I don't want to wait for 48 hrs to get an email response. I have used Vitacost for 20+ years and loved their prices, customer service and shipping. If there was a problem, it was resolved within 1-2 business days, communicating with phone or email. Their website layout is easy to use (not so with iHerb). The page doesn't jump around when trying to look for an item (as it does with iHerb). I tried placing my first order with iHerb for only 7 items and tried to use the 30% discount for first time customers. It wouldn't let me. "Joy", the bot, said it's for overseas countries only (come to find out later that they had my address as India). I have no idea where that came from. Only lived in USA.

Anyway...so when I tried to use the 30% coupon that Joy gave me, all 7 of my items in my cart had disappeared and been replaced with 4 items I had never seen! It was supposed to be an easy switch from Vitacost to iHerb. Not so. I had to set up a completely new account with them (what happened to transferring our info over and making it easy?). I finally got my order together and placed it. However, it was unknown by my bank (thank God) and my bank declined it. iHerb, without contacting me as Vitacost would've done, just rejected my order without letting me know what happened. Vitacost would always let me know if there was a problem so it could be fixed quickly and get my order shipped. They always sent me a confirmation email. I didn't get any notice whatsoever from iHerb. I don't understand why Kroger doesn't use Vitacost and get rid of iHerb. Much happier customers. I won't be returning

Two weeks ago I placed an order and was immediately canceled for whatever reason. I tried again to reorder the same items, canceled. No explanation whatsoever. I waited until today to try to place another order and since this was a transfer from Vitacost and being canceled twice, requested the WELCOMEVC30. Wouldn't go through due to saying I already did a prior order. Again, Never went through! It's impossible to reason with AI JOY and the best discount for cart order was 20 percent.

Needless to say, they've already lost a customer before I've even started. There are other vitamin companies out there that will take my business and I don't have to deal with AI or customer no service. Plus, compared to VitaCost, I don't see the multiple discounts, grocery products, and customer service that made it a number one go to for vitamins and food products. Leaving your customer service to AI with no other vocal support phone number available is going to be a customer killer.

They are great with shipping and refunding damaged items. However, it is getting very problematic concerning simply being able to leave product reviews and get the advertised 'instant' $1 per item. I never had issues in the past, but whenever I leave a review, it is not instant anymore, and I have to wait at least 48 hours. It is frustrating working with the customer service bot to then get to a real human and the person I have received messages from has left me in the dark since last responding, seemingly not doing anything yet to get me the credits. It is not clear what has changed, but the credits used to be instant and not requiring 48 hours to approve. It is frustrating because the customer service is now so poor when you actually need to contact a human versus how it used to be not too long ago.

I'm not sure what happened, but just this issue makes me not want to order anymore. It's a simple thing, but I have chronic health issues and am autistic, and just trying to get some clarity on why this issue is happening so often and get discounts on my purchase so I can save a little bit of money being on a tight budget is making me waste precious time and energy trying to talk to customer service and still having to wait endlessly.

On a recent order from IHERB, delivery was to be made using UNIUNI. The delivery failed with incorrect address information. Funny—Amazon, FedEx, and UPS have no trouble delivering with this same exact address—even on previous orders from IHERB with the same exact address. Okay, somebody could make mistakes. A mistake is not a crime. Canadian company UNIUNI is seeking to expand operations in the United States. This is one company that Canada should be ashamed of and not allow to represent the great country of Canada. (My opinion, not a fact, not a slur on Canada.)

So, I went to their website. There was no way to make a complaint except their chatbot. The chatbot would not escalate to a human. Apparently, it is not able to do this. I used ALL CAPS to tell it was ANGRY. I did not use vulgar language. Apparently, it cannot recognize ANGRY customers and escalate to a human. It just provided a phone number to use in my time zone. I told it it should be turned off before disconnecting.

So, I called the phone number. It was a phone AI. It requested my tracking number. It did not allow keyboard input, only voice. I tried three times. It either dropped a digit, or transposed two adjacent digits each time. It would not, under any circumstances allow keyboard input or escalate to a human. So, I went back to the UNIUNI website. They listed an 800 number to call from anywhere during the hours sufficient to cover any place in the US or Canada during normal working hours. The phone rang several times and then returned a busy tone. I tried several times. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!

My conclusion: whoever designed the online AI chatbot and whoever designed the telephone AI chatbot should be fired along with whichever executives authorized or approved or oversaw the development of these AI incompetents. Using BAD AI IMPLEMENTATIONS does not help your company succeed in new markets.

As for IHERB, I told them to fix it or close my account. They should also fire whoever designed their online chatbot (“Joy”) that could not escalate to a human, along with whichever executives authorized, approved or oversaw the development of this incompetent AI. Using BAD AI IMPLEMENTATIONS does not help your company satisfy angry customers, or retain those customers, or discourage those angry customer from posting on social media about their bad experiences with your company. Nice of them to PROMISE to issue a full refund for an order that was not, and will not be delivered since UNIUNI has sent it back to IHERB. Thanks a lot. I’ve been a customer for ten years. You’ve lost me.

Funny things: UNIUNI sent me two emails, the second signed by a customer service representative: Manel. Both addressed me as “Dear 848” my area code. So, a chatbot pretending to be a human can’t figure out my name from the address on the package, from the name signed to previous communications, or from my email address which contains my full name.

IHERB asked me for a review on TrustPilot. They are going to get a review that says they have MAJOR problems, and that the executive who approved the UNIUNI contract should be fired for lack of due diligence. UNIUNI has the lowest possible TrustPilot rating for extremely bad customer service. I’m going to keep up giving IHERB bad reviews until: The package is delivered (no one else sells a similar product), and the UNIUNI contract is cancelled, and the IHERB executive who failed to do due diligence is fired. Refunding the order is not enough if I can’t get a similar product anywhere else.

Very poor search. Amazon and other websites are easy to use and have been since 20 years ago. Not iHerb website. Search for Vitamin E from Life Extension (a US based company with exceptional quality of supplements) and a mass of other Vitamin E's show up. 7 pages to scroll through to find the pic of the bottle I am looking for.

I have been a long time customer with iHerb, until now. I ordered 5 bags of Celtic Salt and they sent me bags that were unusable. Moisture had gotten into the product prior to my receiving the shipment. I requested a refund and sent over 20 pictures of the bad product. They refuse to refund my credit card OR send me new product. In my book, that is FRAUD!!! I have filed over 10 requests for refund, and every single time, I receive a canned response denying my claim.

I just stumbled upon iHerb when I was shopping around for vitamin supplements. They are great in all respects. I only rated the rewards program fair because I am unfamiliar with any of their rewards.

I have been using IHERB for many years, the selection is exceptional and generally all in stock. Delivery is fast and all our orders were right on without errors. They carry just about all major brands, some of the newer obscure brands not quite so much. I have not always used my rewards program options but it's there if I need it.

They're my only source for Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE) an anti-viral supplement. Pre-pandemic, as you increased your order, the price would be lower. Hope they go back to that! When I do place an order, shipments arrive really quickly, and I have been using them for other supplement orders.

iHerb sells good brands at good prices. Since 2006 I used them regularly and often -- until now. Now they have switched to OnTrac instead of GSO to deliver to my area. OnTrac refused to deliver my last order day after day and finally returned it to iHerb. I found out today I was charged a return fee even though OnTrac never came here and I did not refuse the package. The order was re-initiated, and once again OnTrac did not deliver but left the package on top of a railing a mile from my house. A neighbor brought it to me. After opening I discovered the glass vitamin bottle was broken. By now this was two months after ordering. I can get no satisfaction whatsoever through email or chat. No way can I get an actual human being on the telephone. I'm going to switch to another vitamin company.

iHerb sent the wrong product. After providing emails (many) in addition to a photo of the incorrect product, the correct product was NEVER shipped. After a month of correspondence, I received a refund after I threatened to turn the problem over to the credit card company. Will never do business with this company again.

I didn't get a chance to place an order, Not that I didn't try. I created an account, browsed the site which had many glitches, finally had all items I wanted in my cart, went to check out. Put in my zip code and it stated that they did not deliver to my zip code. I was so frustrated I could have smacked my head against the wall. I live in New York State, I was upset after spending so much time looking for the items I wanted and ordering enough to qualify for free shipping. I immediately knew that I would never place an order from this company.

I tried to delete the items in my cart and it would not let me delete them. I just logged out and will never go back. What company does not ship to NYS? I then checked my emails and I received an email from iHerb stating "Welcome to iHerb". I think NOT! I sent their customer service an email telling them to lose my email address and unsubscribe me from any future mailings as I don't have time to shop and not be able to place the orders. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone. I would say there are too many technical errors on their site.
