Founded in 2015, Taxfyle is a tax preparation platform that connects taxpayers with licensed tax professionals for filing new state and federal returns. It works with individual taxpayers, small and new businesses and expats. With the Taxfyle app, you can complete your return 100% through your phone or tablet with the help of certified public accountants (CPAs) or enrolled agents (EAs).

Pros & Cons

  • Audit protection option
  • Expat filing available
  • State extra
  • No refund advances

What is Taxfyle?

Taxfyle offers on-demand digital tax services. It is a real-time tax filing app that allows you to connect to one of 4,000 CPAs or EAs within minutes.

It is SOC 2-compliant and uses AES-256 encryption to keep your data secure.

How does Taxfyle work?

To file with Taxfyle, you will start by answering a few simple questions about your filing status and tax year. Based on these answers, you will be matched with a tax expert and receive a quote for completing your taxes.

Once you agree to work with Taxfyle, you will need to upload all necessary tax files via your phone or computer. After the expert prepares your taxes, you will have one last chance to review them before signing your paperwork.

Taxfyle services

One way Taxfyle stands out is that it offers expat filing, making it easier to have a tax professional file your taxes even if you are living outside the U.S. Taxfyle says it has helped expats in over 15 countries.

Other services include individual returns for both basic and premium filers (such as taxpayers who have investments or who are landlords). Self-employed individuals, freelancers and contractors also have the option to add on year-end catch-up bookkeeping.

Taxfyle costs

For the individual level of tax filing, Taxfyle offers similar prices to what you would get with a do-it-yourself tax filing service. The benefit of Taxfyle is that you aren’t filing on your own — a pro is doing all the work for you.

  • Basic: Starts at $70 + $35 per state
  • Deluxe: Starts at $135 + $45 per state
  • Premier: Starts at $180 + $45 per state
  • Self-employed: Starts at $220 + $45 per state

Audit protection is an optional add-on for any package, but that cost is not disclosed.

Additionally, Taxfyle might run specials on these services, making them even more affordable than listed prices.

Taxfyle FAQ

Can you file back taxes with Taxfyle?

Yes, you can file multiple years, but if each year will require different answers to the onboarding questionnaire, it is best to submit separate requests.

Can you file for more than one state when preparing your tax return?

Does Taxfyle offer a money-back guarantee?

Taxfyle does not publish if it offers guarantees, such as a maximum refund or accuracy guarantee. However, it does say you are able to get a full or partial refund, depending on the stage at which you cancel services.

Is Taxfyle legit?

Taxfyle is a legitimate tax preparation company that says it is trusted by over 200 CPA firms and has helped 100,000 individual users. The company has grown from its three co-founders to dozens of employees since its start in 2015.
