What is Current?

Current is a financial technology company that provides digital banking services. The company’s financial offerings are provided by Choice Financial Group. Current's goal is to make banking more accessible and affordable for everyone. It does this by eliminating service fees and offering high annual percentage yield rates and cash-back options.

The main appeal of Current is some of its more unique features. The app has biometric security measures such as fingerprint and face ID lock. It also allows you to instantly block transactions. Parents who want their children to learn money management can open a teen account. This provides a convenient mix of financial freedom and security.

How does Current work?

Current aims to make banking simple. While it’s only available through the mobile app, it is simple to set up. The company offers “Savings Pods,” which are basically savings accounts with particular goals. These pods have APYs of 4% and no restrictions on moving money to and from the account.

Your Current Visa debit card is usable anywhere that accepts Visa. This includes the 40,000 fee-free Allpoint ATMs across the U.S. You can receive your paycheck up to two days early. You can also deposit checks through the mobile app. Current users can instantly transfer money between each other with Current Pay. You just need a Current Tag to share your profile with others.

Current also offers points for your purchases at participating locations. You get one point per dollar, or more if the retailer has a multiplier. These points can be redeemed for cash or even for a premium account. Points are available for both basic and premium members.

Current offers three types of banking accounts: basic, premium and teen. Each account type offers a variety of features that suit different needs.

Current closed my account without providing adequate explanation or opportunity to resolve any issues that may have led to this action. Since the account closure, I have been unable to access the funds that remained in my account. I have made multiple attempts to contact Current through various channels to resolve this issue and retrieve my funds:

I attempted to contact customer service by phone on, but was either disconnected, placed on indefinite hold, or told they could not assist and would escalate the matter and I would hear back soon. Never to happen.
I sent multiple emails to Current's customer support department on, but received either no response or automated messages.
I attempted to access my account through Current's website and mobile application, but found that my access had been completely blocked.
I tried to contact Current through their social media channels, but received no meaningful response or assistance.

Current has effectively blocked all avenues of communication while withholding my funds. This constitutes improper retention of customer funds and a failure to provide adequate customer service. The company has not provided any valid reason for withholding my money or for preventing me from accessing their customer service channels.

As a financial institution, Current has a fiduciary responsibility to handle customer funds appropriately and provide proper account closure procedures. Their refusal to return my money or even discuss the matter is unacceptable and potentially illegal.

I work 3 jobs. Only have one tied to this bank. Says need $200 deposit to qualify for the perks. I get over $400 deposited and no perks. I was considering moving from Cash App and my other bank and tie all 3 into one. But now I'm thinking of just moving to Cash App. Current said I don't qualify for the perks even my one income doubles the amount.

I just got off with customer service with Current. I signed up for the account as I was just getting back to work after being off from taking care of my sick mom. I received a check from insurance for 5.00 and also wanted to deposit 10.00 just to get the account some money in it. I linked my debit card and the system said I had to transfer a minimum of 100.00. I asked the agent was this standard, he informed me that because of security issues, I would need to transfer that amount and I could deposit the 5.00 check after they received a direct deposit.

Clearly, 10 dollars is far less of a security risk than 100.00. I then went on the BBB website to read the reviews. Clearly, this bank targets high risk customer... several over 500, that's more than several customers complaining about them receiving their direct deposit, then for some reason or another Current locks their account and these people can't access their money, nor are they getting resolved from Current. If I had not spoken with them, they literally said my deposit needed to be 100 dollars or greater because of security risk. Now that makes zero sense. Just wanted to pass the information on for the next consumer.

Horrible. They charge a fee to borrow money from your own pay check. They also don't give you 200$ like they say. Cash app gave me way more money to borrow for no fee. Switching back. I was crazy thinking they would be better. They are horrible.

I ended up going with Current to use for my direct deposits and when I went to the ATM thinking that they were like Chime without a daily limit of how much I can withdraw if I choose to make 6 transactions in the amount of $300 each transaction I was denied, which caused me to go into the app and I see that there is only a $500 daily limit which really sucks. Now I'm starting to rethink using Current to receive my direct deposits. How is it called Current and I can’t take withdraw what I need Currently. And why is there not an option to transfer money over from my current account over to my over debit card? It let me add my debit card but only gives me the option to send money over from my external account over to chime and not vice versa which sucks as well.

Look I had a bank I used for years. I had a handful of people suggest Current to me so I decided to give it a try. A huge mistake on my part. Since I have been with them it's been nothing but trouble. They suck. Here is just one small example but there is many believe me. I've been using current now for 2 years. Since the day I started using them I have been getting a weekly deposit of 500 plus dollars from the same employer. Well he recently over the holidays we received a paper check. This is No lie, it took me 4 days and 53 rejections because they said the picture was too blurry before I could even get my check approved. Now keep in mind I told you I've been with them for 2 years. I've had a 500 plus dollar deposit in my account every single week and the same place that made those deposits is the very same place that wrote me a paper check. I'm on day three and have not received my funds.

Now I could understand if it were a new account if I was a new user or even maybe if the deposit was from a different source. But it's not. I have never had this issue before. Not out of any other app and I've used many. In fact I've had current longer than I've had all the other apps combined and in the same situation they all cash to paper check the same day. But it's not just that. They will give you a cash advance let's say one week it's $650 you get your advance then your payday rolls around on the same day of the week it's the same amount as always. It takes your check to pay back the $650 advance. Now all the sudden it's only 50. This my friend is how they steal your money. Use common sense and use any other app other than this one and I swear to you you will thank me.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would, I had an issue where I needed to pause my paycheck advance auto repayment for 1 week, I withdrew my consent via chat, and email, 24 hours later, after my paycheck had hit and they did the auto repayment. AFTER my consent was withdrawn for auto repayment, I have sent emails and screenshots of the timestamp and I keep getting the exact same response from everyone that works for that crap company, apparently nobody can read. 5 days. Literally 5 days is all I needed that's it. I have been with them for 2 years. Never missed a repayment. NEVER AGAIN.

Sent $30 to Current to open account in June. But, they put it on hold for over 10 days and I could never open the account on their app. Customer service cannot help with ANYTHING and you MUST do problems via online and robo answers. They requested I prove my ID AND I SUBMITTED REQUIRED DOCUMENTS PHOTOS, however, could not access because of phone issues. Was finally resolved over weekend after I sent letter to the CEO, STUART SOPP. But now the account is suspended! I still don't have my money back. I cannot call because I have to file complaints online and system hangs up, and get Robo answers online. Now I must fill out multitudes of complaints just trying to get back $30. Margaret **. I am experiencing a bad situation with Current. I had a direct deposit into my account on September 10, 2025, and I still don't have access to my account as of this day, they keep telling me to wait for an email which I never received from them, customer service is very poor, I would not recommend anyone to join this company. I have filed a complaint with FDIC and the FTC also.

Terrible experience. Drastically reduced my advance for no reason and put me in a very bad spot. Not to mention, customer service is all but nonexistent. This app is highway robbery at the very least….
