What is LendingTree?

LendingTree is an online marketplace that partners with online and brick-and-mortar financial institutions to help consumers find and compare different financial products. Through its marketplace, consumers can be matched with products like mortgages, personal loans, auto loans, business loans, debt consolidation loans, credit cards and insurance plans.

You can compare loans and rates directly on LendingTree’s website. Some of its lending partners can fund loans in as little as 48 hours. You can also sign up for a free LendingTree account to check your credit score and get matched with products.

How does LendingTree work?

LendingTree can match you with loan, credit card or insurance offers within just a few minutes. From the home page, you can click on the type of product you’re interested in and then answer a series of questions related to what you’re looking for. You’ll then receive an email with up to five offers suited to your situation.

Each lending partner through LendingTree has its own borrower qualifications.

Typically, you can apply with a lender immediately, but you can also simply compare offers and rates if you’re not ready to move forward with a specific lender. If you opt to apply for an offer presented by LendingTree, you’ll need to finish the application directly with the lender. Make sure you have your financial information ready, such as information about your income, debts and assets.

LendingTree also offers helpful tools like calculators, informational resources, company reviews and a credit-monitoring service called LendingTree Spring, which also provides personalized financial advice.

LendingTree rates

LendingTree’s matching services are free, but the annual percentage rates (APRs) it displays vary from lending partner to lending partner. Its rates will also vary based on your financial profile, the product and your location.

Comparing offers can help you find the most favorable rates, terms and fees.

Typically, a lender will set your rate based on your credit score. You can expect to get the best rates and offers if you have very good to excellent credit, or a FICO score of 740 to 850. You may still qualify for competitive rates with a good credit score (670 to 739), though you may have a harder time qualifying for a loan or credit card if you have fair credit (580 to 669) or bad credit (300 to 579).

FAQ

Is the LendingTree a legitimate loan company?

LendingTree is a legitimate company, but it’s not a direct lender. It’s a marketplace that connects people with offers from different lenders in one place. It’s licensed with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS), and it’s been in business for about 30 years.

Does a LendingTree loan hurt your credit?

LendingTree does a soft pull on your credit when you request loan offers on its website, which won’t affect your credit score. If you apply for one of its loan offers, the lender will typically perform a hard credit inquiry, which will temporarily lower your credit score by several points.

Does LendingTree charge a fee?

No, LendingTree doesn’t charge a fee to use its matching services. Its LendingTree Spring service, which offers credit score monitoring and financial resources, is also free to use.

I only wanted to know how much payment would be on a $30,000.00 loan. Also interest rate. Ended up with all kinds of questions which I foolishly answered while not receiving any of the info I requested. I finally stopped and backtracked and closed site. My phone immediately rang, it was them calling. I told them I changed my mind and was not interested. As of now, Lending Tree companies are calling me from all over the U.S.A. As fast as l block calls another one calls. I don't answer, sometimes send a not interested message then block that number. They must have a million associated companies. They did not bother to share with any of them that I am not interested. DON'T CONTACT LENDING TREE! YOU WILL BE VERY SORRY! If I had actually decided I wanted a loan I know better than to call them. They should not have circulated my info until I had completed the online data.

Literally within 10 seconds of submitting my inquiry for refinance rates, I received 3 texts and 10 phone calls. The calls have not stopped and it's been over a week. On average, I get about 60 spam calls a day now, 7 days a week. It has not slowed down. For the sake of your own sanity, do not do anything with Lending Tree!!!

If you want to get bombarded with dozens of texts and phone calls beginning the SECOND you submit your innocent little “hey I wonder what kind of rate and payment a loan might be” inquiry, and keep getting text-bombed and phone-bombed for days and days afterwards, Lending Tree is perfect for you.

Over and over and over they keep calling. I asked them so many times to remove my number. I've never applied for a loan. They steal your information and sell it on the market unbelievable. I've told them they disturb my business. All the time, and yet they keep calling. This company is desperate to tie you into a loan.

I went to their site just to see what interest rates were at that time. They REQUIRED my name, phone and email to be able to view rates. Before I could get off the site my phone began to ring constantly. They unleashed the hounds of hell on me. I had to turn off my phone for the remainder of the day. They need to add in their questioning whether or not you are truly interested in moving forward with a loan and release the rabid dogs on you only if you say "yes"!

Today, Nov 17 2025, I received a text message saying my Renters Insurance quote was attached and to call with questions from a legitimate State Farm agency in Jacksonville FL. Attached was a real PDF of the quote. I checked online to make sure the agency was real and called as well to have their agent call me about the quote that I received but never ever requested. I then looked at the quote and it was for an old address in the Jacksonville FL area that I have not lived at in over 15 YEARS! What is worse is I never even owned that home or rented it - it had been my ex-fiance's home where I lived for about 2 years.

The lovely State Farm agent called me back and said they got my information as a lead they purchased from QuoteWizard.com which is - no surprise - now owned by LendingTree! The agent said the website claimed it provided real leads filled out on their website for auto and home insurance quotes. I said I never filled out any information ever on QuoteWizard and the agent was shocked that I also had not been at the said address in many years.

As a licensed insurance agent myself and having to hold myself to high ethics, I find QuoteWizard and LendingTree despicable in having some sort of AI engine comb the internet for old addresses and blatantly sell those addresses as real requests for quotes when they are not. This is a major disservice to potential customers and agents/agencies alike. Why BBB is giving QuoteWizard and LendingTree an A+ rating when all the reviews on there are negative is beyond belief. There are numerous complaints on the BBB website about all 3 locations of QuoteWizard and for LendingTree. The BBB rating is 1.1 out of 5 stars and for LendingTree, the BBB rating is 1.0.

Complaints from consumers who did go on the website asking for a quote and then getting an overload of supposed insurance agents calling them to sell them insurance and basically being harassed. And complaints from agents/agencies who purchased leads from QuoteWizard/LendingTree and finding out like in my case that the lead is fake with old addresses, old phone and email addresses. Also, Agent and Agency complaints on not getting properly refunded for the fake leads as well. This sounds like Fraud, plain and simple. I recommend anyone here to file a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the internet scam complaint website ** on your experience.

The biggest mistake I have ever made was to request a home equity loan through Lending Tree. I was under the impression that I was requesting 3 different options to get an idea of a ballpark monthly payment. My phone has been ringing nonstop for 6 days now, and I have received over 250 phone calls and about as many text messages. What an absolute nightmare. I filed a formal request to stop all information sharing and place me on a do-not-call list on their website. This has not done a thing about the sheer volume of calls I am receiving. I am beyond frustrated!

LendingTree provides a list of "possible lending sources." Many, including Lending Tree, advertise that they will not affect your credit due to "soft checks." This is an outright lie IN THE CASE OF AUTO FINANCING. As soon as your VIN is out there, hard checks begin! Despite the change of subjects, you will be offered, like "there is a two-week window when hard checks will be allowed," this is also a misrepresentation, because dozens of hard checks can come via your VIN.

To make it worse, Lending Tree's results are a nest of vipers on the auto financing side, ESPECIALLY FOR LEASE BUYOUTS! Companies sounding like 'lease end,' 'lease ending,' 'lease finance,' 'lease buyout co,' etc., are brokers for brokers. Once they get their hooks in you, the lies multiply, the hard checks propagate like viruses. You end up with the one semi-legitimate broker, Ally, which itself is a broker that moves your paper via underwriters if you have a relatively low score as 680. However, this score will then drop to 599 by the time this crew is done with you.

Example misrepresentations include "dock fees" where brokers claim to be "dealerships without an inventory," "tax fees" when tax was already included in the buyout (these are broker closing costs that are marked up from another broker closing cost, like Ally, to a final group of closing costs by the actual lender)! ADVICE: Skip lending tree and their band of thieves and go directly to ALLY or a LEGIT LENDER, NOT an UNREGULATED LIST OF FLY-BY-NIGHT FIBBERS.

Worst mistake I ever made was to go with LendingTree. Spam after spam calls, emails, etc. I got emailed by a suspicious person who couldn't simply explain who they were and what company they represented as a lender.🤔 Nawww you won't get me that easy.🤡 I think LendingTree needs to filter their lenders and do background checks on lenders before suggesting them through their site. Bad look if you ask me.😕

I don't think Lending Tree actually makes loans. They just sell your info to potential lenders. Once you enter your info, you will be barraged by spam calls immediately. Within seconds of providing info about the type of loan I was seeking, my phone started ringing. Nonstop. Multiple calls in the first hour. Dozens the first day. And it never ends. I am two weeks out from providing Lending Tree my info, and I still got four calls yesterday. On a Saturday. Unless you enjoy spam calls, avoid Lending Tree.
