Klarna loan products

Klarna’s buy now, pay later plans let you split purchases into installments. While it's most commonly used for online shopping, you can also use it in physical stores with Klarna's merchant partners.

Klarna offers a few options for BNPL plans, including:

  • Pay in 4: Divides your purchase into four equal payments, due every two weeks. As long as you complete all payments within eight weeks, you won't pay any interest.
  • Pay in 30 days: You have 30 days to pay your balance in full, completely interest-free. You can choose to make several smaller payments or one lump sum payment within that month.
  • Pay over time: For larger purchases, you can opt to make smaller monthly payments over a period of six to 24 months. This plan accrues interest, with APRs reaching as high as 35.99%.

Before signing up for a payment plan, review the plan’s terms, including the APR and any applicable fees.

Klarna rates

APRs for Klarna's BNPL options vary from 0% to 35.99%. Your individual rate is determined by the length of your payment plan and your creditworthiness. Generally, borrowers with better credit scores can expect to be offered the lowest available rates.

Klarna fees

In addition to potential interest charges, Klarna may apply late payment fees. The amount of these fees can differ depending on the specific BNPL plan you are using.

For instance, a $7 fee is charged for each missed payment on Pay in 4 plans. For other payment plans, late fees may also apply as outlined in your individual credit agreement.

You can easily access your payment details whenever you need them, either by logging into your account online or using the Klarna app. If you need more time to make a payment, you can also request to extend your due date.

It's essential to make your payments on time with Klarna, as your payment history directly impacts whether you'll be offered BNPL options in the future. Consistently paying on time helps maintain your eligibility for these services.

How to apply for a Klarna loan

You can apply for a payment plan in the Klarna app, at checkout with stores that accept Klarna or through Apple Pay. To qualify for Klarna's buy now, pay later plans, you must:

  • Live in the U.S. and have a valid U.S. address
  • Be at least 18 years old and have a valid Social Security number
  • Have an active bank account
  • Be able to receive verification codes via text message

To get started with the Klarna app:

  1. Create an account: Use your email or phone number and set up a six-digit code. Klarna doesn’t run a credit check at this stage.
  2. Shop with retailers in the app: When you're ready to check out, enter your name, birth date, address and payment details (bank account or card).
  3. Get approved: Klarna runs a soft credit check and tells you if you’re approved for that specific purchase. Your spending limit may vary by retailer. If approved, you can generate a one-time card for your online purchase.
  4. Earn cashback: Some purchases earn up to 10% back when you use the Klarna app. Check the app for current offers.

Seem great for quick purchase of a few payment, but if you have to return a product all hell beaks lose. They put it on a card you can't use to get credit for money you haven't paid for. WTF? CS has 0 resolution. I have to cancel my bank card and stop paying until they figure it out. Just painfully not worth hassle of returns. I got a broken freezer so not keeping it ao just know BIG hassle for little money.

If there had been an option for zero stars, I would have selected it. I was on the ticketmaster website to purchase a gift card and it came up and offered an option for Klarna and to see how much Klarna credit I could get. It said I qualified for far more than what I wanted to spend so, I tried to check out using Klarna and it came up and said it couldn't verify my identity.

I contacted customer support and was told the problem was I hadn't used my account in 5 years which wasn't true. I currently have something else financed with them. I logged into my account and my information was there. I was told I needed to make a "paid in full" purchase which made no sense. Why would I "pay in full" using Klarna? Isn't the point of using Klarna the financing? And, Klarna had JUST finished telling me I qualified for much more credit than what I wanted to use. CLEARLY, they had just verified my identity if they qualified me for credit. I was told to try again in 24 hours and "politely" dismissed. Their customer service clearly did not identify whatever the problem really was and I found them quite disappointing and useless.

Purchased an item through eBay. Item was never received. I contacted Klarna for customer service since they offer buyer protection. Klarna stated that if eBay did not respond in 21 days the dispute would be closed in my favor. 40 days go by and after speaking to their representative on the phone who gave me the run around, I contacted my bank who returned the down payment. Now upon hearing this Klarna is charging my account back for the funds because they are saying my bank ruled in their favor. I contacted my bank due to me never receiving a decision in this matter in writing. My bank stated it's an ongoing issue so no decision has been made yet. would not suggest Klarna nor is their buyer protection worth anything. Also to note Klarna had posted that the refund was issued and I wouldn't be charged but here we are. Today they charged my bank account 157.39 three times.

DO NOT USE KLARNA!! There are other options who use the correct regulations like Affirm or Afterpay. I used Klarna just to see what the process would be because I’m in sales and we offer Klarna as an option for financing. The process was pretty simple but I’m telling everyone and anyone DO NOT USE KLARNA!! They offer financing to illegitimate companies/merchants. I did not receive any invoices for my purchase nor did I receive my purchase. When I tried to work with Klarna they told me 2 separate times that they would take care of the dispute. Only for them in the end to tell me some merchants will sell items and close their business. But I’m still responsible for the item that I did not receive! And after…reading the reviews for Klarna I learned this is common. I imagine it’s a Swedish company and they set their platform up to steal from other countries like the US. DO NOT USE KLARNA!!

They charged me but admitted there's no order processing. They refused to help. Customer service lied, put me on hold for a manager but I called back to find out there's no way to transfer me to a manager. Crooks.

I also give zero stars. I decided to try this buy now pay later product to see what it was like, and I would recommend considering your options before proceeding with this company. My order from store was delayed, yet Klarna did not adjust the payment start date, and I had to start making payments before I even received the order.

At no time will Klarna change your payment date, frequency or other. If you experience hardship and are not able to make your payment, they will not offer payment extensions or deferrals, even if it is only 5 days. They will instead aggressively attempt to take the payments daily, and incur a new late fee each time (not to mention any fees charged by your bank). They will not stop this activity even after being asked, and their customer service will not escalate your concerns to their manager. In fact, if you ask, they will "resolve" your inquiry while you are typing or pretend the connection has been lost if you are on the phone. They do not have a call back feature, so you need to call again. They flag your account with notes, and it only gets worse from there. I would not recommend this product, and would strongly state "Buyer Beware".

I give zero stars. I got fraud on my order. Didn't receive the product. Didn't get a tracking number. The site blocked after I set up the payments and I notified Klarna. Klarna said give it 21 days then I still had money taken from me. They said prove I contacted the store. I had no proof as I was blocked from the site right after I made the purchase and payment plan. Klarna couldn't get ahold of them either but said since no proof they are still taking my money. They're **. Obviously if no one can get ahold of the site it's scam. I had to change my account and stop payment. Do not use Klarna. You will not refunded if there is a problem.
