I hate this bank. Worst customer service, I’ve been trying to register my trailer for the past 6 months! And they haven’t released the paperwork to the DMV. Wait lines to speak to someone are way too long. Find another bank. I bet if I stopped making payments they would call me in a heartbeat. Ridiculous that I’ve been dealing with this for so long.

I went to my local branch to close my accounts, which took over an hour. I requested a written letter stating that I closed my account. They thought it was as a silly idea and told me not to worry that my account would close the next business day. It has been 2 weeks and my accounts are still open. I have written two letters to customer service through the app with no response and have tried to call, but am on hold until it finally rings only to be greeted by silence and then I am hung up on. I really do not know what to do at this point. Bank of the West is holding me hostage. Soon I will be charged for no active deposits. If you complain using social media they just block you and do not help.

And it's steadily gone downhill. Initially it was a smallish regional bank with great customer service, convenient locations, and low to no fees. They were my choice for my first credit card and then my very first mortgage. Then they got bought up by an international bank and that's when things started to go south. First it was little things like increased fees on what used to be "free" checking. Then longer wait times for telephone support. Then reduced hours and closed locations. Lots of little annoyances that added up to a poor experience.
Now, today, the last straw. I called in to their support line for something that couldn't be handled online. Went through the prompts, entered my account information, etc. Got the typical "we're experiencing longer than normal wait times" message. Seriously, if you always have that message it's not longer than usual, it's usual. But that isn't the problem. After waiting on hold for a few minutes a message came on that said "your wait time is approximately" and then hung up on me. I went through this 3 times. I'm out of state somewhere with no branches, going in to the weekend, and need to handle something urgently.
I'm done. I'm expecting a $75,000 wire and when it posts I'm transferring all my money and accounts to a local credit union. They may not have all of the services available that a big bank might, but I never use those services anyway. And I won't be sending my fees and interest to BNP Paribas, a huge French bank who couldn't care less about a small customer like me. Bye!

Terrible. My husband and I have been with them since 18 for business/personal. Rose at the Holbrook, AZ branch is the only reason we have stayed this long She is GREAT, deserves a BIG raise. Every other part of the bank is useless. $9 to use an ATM that isn't theirs but guess what- they have 1 branch in a 4 hr radius. $12 monthly fee. And my absolute favorite banking feature is that they LOVE to your turn your cards off for suspected fraud for the most minuscule things. Tried to send my sister in law a small sum of money ($50), fraud. Went on an outdoor day trip with my kids 3 hrs away where phone service is minimal, fraud. Spent 5 HOURS on the phone that day trying to get my cards back on while running out of gas in an area I wasn't familiar with. Alternating between turning car on and off because... it is 100 degree SUMMER in Arizona and I had 4 children under 10 in the car.
The first time I got someone on the line (2 hr hold) they wouldn't turn my card back on bc I couldn't access the net to verify my charge amounts in order. There is no mobile net there. I called my branch, was told they don't have access to help me even though they DO know me. Fraud line again (1.5 hour hold) crying now, they said they turned it on. I advised I have to drive another 30 miles with no service to reach another gas station. He said he'd call back in 45 min to make sure we were okay. Card didn't work, no call.
Called again, hour hold, they advised a branch was another 30 miles or so. I made it to the branch with my car literally sputtering. My husband was also making the 4 hr trip to bring cash by this point. When I walked into the branch to pull cash out I explained and the teller did not sympathize or apoligize. She simply said I "should have told the bank I would be traveling". We live in rural Arizona, a trip to home depot alone is 130 miles round trip.
I am from a state that is 31 hours away from Arizona, 4 hours is hardly traveling for us. Bank of the West has turned our cards off 4 times in 6 months. Once outside of Death Valley during the Extreme heatwave in 21 while our motor home was broken down. They. Are. A. Nightmare. We pass anywhere from 60 to 100k through Bank of the West a year. We are local known business owners. Have never filed a fraud claim and have never had cards lost or stolen but they micromanage our money constantly. They seem to forget that we are the customers and have choices on other banks to use.
The latest stunt on Halloween we drove 3 hrs to take kids to a Halloween event. Again we live rural, driving 3 hrs to do ANYTHING is very normal. Everything was fine until we got there. Apparently on our last gas fill they shut our cards down. When I tried to pay for the kids entry- all cards were declined. We had several thousand in the bank. It was 7 at night, branches were closed. Of course the 800 number tells you EVERY. TIME. There is a longer than anticipated hold which means you will hold anywhere from 1.5hrs to 3 hrs to speak. We luckily had gas to get back BUT I had to drive with kids crying in the car bc they sat 3 hrs ONE WAY excited about the event they missed. Painful. My husband met us halfway with a credit card (we keep in a safe and don't use) and we got a hotel for the night.
The straw that broke the camel's back though is this. 2 mos ago we received a considerable amount of money as backpay as we didn't take business pay during covid. We used what the business made to keep the business going. When we paid ourselves we decided to buy 2 things. A used/new to us camper and new to us car. We withdrew 8600 one day, the next day we withdrew 5400 and bought the car. We don't have loans, we own every vehicle and camper we have. This is not out of the norm for us as we strive to be debt free. I never ONCE had anyone call me to follow up about the problems or anyone ever say, "I'm sorry we inconvenienced you for HOURS on multiple days," BUT a few days ago I recieved a call from my local branch. They advised me that their "backend" asked them to call to find out why we withdrew the money on the two days and what did we do with the money. What? Unbelievable.
I took the opportunity to tell them everything in this review and that we were moving to the alternate bank in our area. There are only 2 banks within 100 mile radius of us and I finally made time to go switch our personal and business over. If you want a bank who acts like you shouldn't use your money and plays controlling games with your cash access while making you wait HOURS to speak to anyone with a pulse. THIS BANK IS FOR YOU. Otherwise ANY other bank will do. Better yet, bury it in the backyard or seal it in a wall! It would take less time and effort to get it out every time you want to use it.

Terrible, sexist management. I thought that because this bank was headed by a female CEO it might be different. Not so. First, the manager canceled my first scheduled appointment to eat his lunch in the conference room. (I could clearly see him through the glass). Then the manager actually questioned whether or not I as a single mother could open a child savings account with my surname. After setting up the account, he actually wrote me to ask me to re-prove she had my surname with a birth certificate. Oh, and this was after we had had a tedious hour-long appointment in which had been told my entire employment history as a Ph.D. professional and all my financial history as an independent woman who owns her own house. Even so, he wrote me the next day as Mrs.
Then to my greater dismay, I discovered that the bank's claims to fossil-free investment are just greenwashing. They are highly invested in palm oil which is decimating the forests of the Americas. ** I attempted three times through the customer service on the online banking to find a regional manager to report this incident to no avail. I just got robo responses delayed by two weeks. Huge disappointment.

Last week I made a deposit in person with the teller at the Beverly Hills Branch: the bank itself looks like a dark studio set in a scary movie; across the Hall from Citibank… The employees working there are demure, uninviting… If the ATM was working I’d never enter the branch… Yesterday I was on hold for 50 minutes trying to talk with a rep about a $35 charge to my account: I was explained that was an error and as a courtesy the charge would be reimbursed. I did not write a check, nor should an erroneous charge be “courtesy return”… best part is the employee on the other end started to cry…? Bank of the West seems to have an unbelievable amount of 1star ratings - it’s actually shocking! Stealing money from your entrusted consumers is not acceptable… (no, so far the missing $35 have not been returned).

Bank of the West was a great bank with great customer support until 2-3 years ago.
- They have limits on wire transfers that differ based on how “good” a customer you are.
- They close accounts without notification.
- Even if you have millions in their bank they do not treat customers with good service and respect.
- They do not answer phones when at lunch and do not have a messages stating they are out to lunch.
- They hide the phone numbers for Executive Offices.
- If you want to buy a house with a large down payment that requires wire transfers BOW is NOT a bank that wants to make it easy for you to get your money out of.
- They point fingers at other departments and say they cannot help you because it is the other department's issues and they do not have a way of contacting the other department.
- Branch Managers and Regional Bank Officers do not have full access to account information to assist customers.
- The website is hard to use and does not integrate with Quicken very well.

I opened a checking account on a Wednesday and had to wait until Monday for my enrollment to complete in online banking. I tried calling on Friday but hung up after being on hold for 90 minutes. Called Saturday morning and was on hold for 9 minutes. They need a call back option if the wait time is more than 3 minutes. Agent sounded extremely weary, like he'd been yelled endlessly by angry customers but he told me right away I would get an email by Monday at the latest to confirm my enrollment. I got two emails on Monday, 1st to confirm my enrollment and an hour later to apologize for not being able to enroll me (?). Webpage & Mobile app likewise gave me conflicting messages. They're a lot better than Citi. (I couldn't log in to Citi webpage & mobile app for 18 months until a year ago)

Do yourself a favor and find another bank to deal with. I have called and left seven messages with the person handling the loan (Ken). I’ve also left two messages with two different supervisors. It’s been two weeks and I haven’t had a single person ever call me back. Maybe if I was borrowing $1 million they would call me but maybe my $75,000 is just not enough for them to want to help me. They will absolutely not call you back and by far have to be the slowest bank I have ever dealt with in my life. It took nine days to approve a loan with a great credit score. By the time the loan was approved the seller grew impatient and sold the boat to someone else Which I can’t blame him because I wouldn’t wait nine days either. So thanks to Bank of the West for me losing out on something we have been wanting for over seven months and searching high and low to find.

The overall experience if you need to communicate with BOW for any reason is just atrocious. I paid off a Jet ski loan and was told it would take 7-10 business days for them to get the electronic lien release for the title, that took 85 minutes of hold time to get that answer. Day 10 I call to check on the status and now the time frame is at least 10 days, that was two on-hold times of 35 minutes and 45 minutes then I am suppose to call a different number. Day 12 they blame it on the state. There is more but it just reinforces what I said in the beginning, absolutely terrible customers service and almost impossible to contact. Never Again!!!!

I have been a customer personally and through my business for approximately 22 years. I have endured many mistakes such as the most recent $150,000 bank error. Managers failing to properly close accounts and hours on hold trying to find out what is happening with my account. Yet I decided to apply for a HELOC loan with BOW because I had been with them 22 years. I have excellent credit, a high excellent fico score, minimal debt (car loan just to keep credit up), cash and assets. I applied for 37% of the low end value of my home. After countless requests for information they already had, being sent packets requesting signatures and legal documents that later I was told to dispose of they finally called me with a counter offer. We were being offered 3.1% of our home value. I am insulted, outraged and quite disturbed.
Our sin! We are retired and seniors, we do not have the income stream we used to have. What we do have is assets, great credit, perfect credit history. They did not verify our retirement accounts, other bank accounts or even give us the opportunity to allow these to be a part of the loan application. Imagine if you are retired and traveling and you suddenly cannot use your funds from your account. Terrifying and a huge inconvenience! "Ooops sorry we accidentally put 150k of someone else's money in your account and now we are taking it out with a $35 NSF fee." Who discovered the error, me. How often have you attempted to reach BOW via telephone or online only to be told they were closed (business customers) or systems were down.
I strongly urge you to google the reviews for BOW, here are just a few.
Wallet Hub-689 reviews 2.7 ratingTrustpilot-32 reviews 1.7 rating
Yelp-87 reviews 1.5 rating
BBB-285 complaints in last three years.
Deposit accounts-44 complaints 2.0 rating
ConsumerAffairs - 39 people took the time to write a one star review in the last year.
That is a lot of unhappy customers!!! How willing are you to let them make mistakes with your money. There are other banks out there and other banks that are willing to take your deposits and be happy to have them. There are other banks that will not insult you with a paltry 3.1% loan because you are on a fixed income. I am joining the ranks of the unhappy BOW customers and pulling all of my funds out and closing all three of my accounts.

When I finally paid off this loan, my auto payment sent an additional payment of $1800 dollars of overpayment. This payment was deposited and never refunded.
I tried to reach them to discuss, but they still had no email option, no chat option, long phone wait times (over 30 minutes every time) and bad published fax numbers. So, I had to file a complaint with the BBB and CFPB just to be able to get a response from them. In these complaints, I asked for email contact for efficiency purposes. Instead, they called during business hours when I was not available and kept leaving the same message "Call our 800 number if you need help." As is the definition of insanity, they kept doing the same action, hoping for a different outcome. I kept asking for an email, they kept calling.
This matter was never resolve, and I'm going to have to take legal action next. Bank of the West is the worst banking institution I've ever done business with. for 12 years, every time I would try to call them, their message would always say "We are experiencing unanticipated high call volume, we apologize for the delay." Until I decided to basically tell them I’ll just do it myself on the self-help automatic phone system. I don’t know what it is but they seemed to really be good at first but not anymore. The bad attitude over the phone and the over the phone customer service is not very good anymore.
One example: a customer representative would tell me a charge was going to be taken off then a month later I found out that I was charged a late fee because of the mistake that supposedly was being taken care of over the phone wasn’t actually taken care of. As if my other phone call never happened. Then I get on the phone with another operator and it’s the same issues over and over. I can’t seem to get one good person on the phone with this particular bank. Very unprofessional. I paid off my loan early by 1 year and I was never more a few day past my payment date so they added 25.00 every time. Well they put this money into a special employee savings account. At the end of your loan you have to pay every 25.00 that was add into this account before they release your title. They never tell you this until the loan is paid in full.

I have a lease with Bank of the West for my 2016 FORD F-150, I have not been able to re-register it here in the state of Kentucky, not due to any fault of my own, Bank of the West has failed to renew paperwork with the state and pay back fees due to the state not related to my truck. So now the state of Kentucky has put a block on any renewals with any leases with The Bank of the West, I have spoken to a AVP with the bank with no results, and now she refuses to return any of my calls. So I have paid off the lease, and the residual via an ACH payment and they claim I have not, so now they have 31k of mine and not applied it to the lease and the residual and send me the title so I can transfer it to me and register it. Never again will I do business with this bank.

Goal: I wanted to open an account with a bank that had a local branch. Week 1. I went in person to the local branch to open the account on a Saturday. The banker advised me it would be quick and easy to open it on-line. Later that day, I used the on-line application process. At the end of the process, I received a pop-up that stated it would take 3-5 days to verify my identity. So, not quick. On Thursday I received a brief e-mail stating additional information was required and a link was provided. The link took me to a webpage that did not ask for any information or indicate anything was needed. So, not easy.
Week 2. The following Saturday, I called the customer service number to find out what additional information they needed. After multiple questions, I was able to get the employee to go from the vague “We need the date the alert was set” to the specific in clarifying they wanted the date I set a fraud alert with Experian. The only rationale the Bank of the West employee could provide was because they wanted it. No date = no account; no alternatives, and no substitutions. Note: I have always had difficulty getting through to Experian so I knew immediately this would not be a simple matter to get this piece of information. I also knew this was not a normal request for a bank to make to open a checking account.
After trying and failing to get through to Experian, I called the customer service number for Bank of the West again. I explained the situation to a male employee and asked for options. He informed me in the most condescending manner possible that I was “required to comply” or they would simply refuse to open an account for me. Those were my two choices. I pointed out a third, that I could open an account with a different financial institution. Week 3. On the following Saturday, I went to the bank to meet with a banker only to find the branch was closed for employee training.
Week 4. I returned the following Saturday to meet with a different banker to discuss the difficulty of opening a simple checking account. She called the customer service number to find out what my options were and was given the same Experian fraud alert date requirement. She verified I could not open my account without it. I demonstrated the difficulty of getting the information from Experian. I left still unable to open an account even in person at the bank branch. No bank has ever worked so hard to not accept my money.
I called the customer service number and explained that since I could not obtain the information they required to open my account, I wanted to terminate my application and have all my data deleted. I was assured my application would be closed. However, they absolutely refuse to delete my application data and it will be kept indefinitely. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a bank. The employees in the branch were pleasant, but ineffectual. The employees on the customer service number were actively unhelpful. In the end, I am relieved I was not able to open an account as this bank definitely does not meet my needs or expectations. Note: I opened an account with a different bank in one hour over the phone.

I have a loan with this bank for my motorhome. I had no choice in the matter. I immediately set up auto pay. No problem. UNTIL I wanted to send more $$ and have it applied to the principle. Well, shame on me for going to the website and setting up this second monthly payment. Guess what? It IS NOT being applied to the principal. And I am unable to cancel future second payments via the website. It is not even visible in my account info. So I sent a message via the website to resolve this. It takes 4 days to get a response. Guess what? I MUST call to resolve. The wait time for a call to this bank is ALWAYS in excess of 40 minutes, often longer!! I've tried different days of the week, and different times of day. So here I am on hold (going on 30 minutes). DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK! The website is antiquated, worthless, and customer service is non-existent.

I purchased a travel trailer back in October 2019. Upon purchasing the trailer the finance personnel used Bank of the West in Calameda, CA. After reviewing my account I discovered that their finance charge rate was way higher than what I could get at any bank so I opened a line of credit at a local bank that was way lower so I arranged to pay off my loan of almost $27K. After reviewing my balance I noticed that the payoff wasn't posted yet and it had been over a week. I tried repeatedly to contact someone at the bank to find out when my payoff would be posted however that was a lost cause as there is always a long wait time of at least 45 minutes or longer.
After much frustration I tried to use the chat line also to no avail as they could not answer any of my questions through the chat line! Ridiculous! Why have a chat line? Just to chat? Seeing that another payment would possibly be drafted from our account within a week I headed them off at the pass and stopped the auto draft from my bank. There is no telling how long that it will take two get my title transferred now. Do yourself a favor and not go through the frustration of dealing with these people as you will regret it!

Last week, I attempted to open a checking and savings account online at Bank of the West. I decided to go the online route rather than stop into a branch to maintain social distancing during the pandemic and I also figured it would save me some time. WOW, was I wrong about saving time. I filled out the online forms, everything looks good. I fund my account using my debit card from an existing checking account. Perfect. I go to the last step and I'm under "extended review". That's fine, I appreciate extra security and I assume it's because I have a PO Box as a a mailing address.
Now is when it starts to get stupid, for lack of a better adjective. I'm under extended review but there are no steps for me to take and they have my $500 as a pending transaction. I email customer service asking what it takes to either finish the account setup or release my funds. One or the other. I'm told they'll expedite the review process. Great! But I still don't hear from them.
Two days later, I receive an email telling me that I need to verify my identity. I call. Am on hold for half an hour. The rep on the phone keeps losing his place on his script that he's reading. This takes a lot longer than it should to answer credit verification questions, but fine. I ask the next step and am told I need to upload a document with my mailing address into their portal. Finally, we're getting somewhere! I log into the portal, and.... it doesn't work. When I upload my credit card statement, I get an error message that the category (the ONLY category to choose, mind you) doesn't exist. I wait an hour, try again. Same error message. I email customer service, and these people actually suggest that I email (through a regular old outlook email) them my financial documents. I'm no cybersecurity expert, but aren't these things supposed to go through some kind of secure system? Yeah... nope. Not doing that. So I wait.
TWO DAYS LATER, they fixed their portal and I can upload my document. And I wait. I wait for at least an acknowledgment that it was received, hopefully for account details. But nothing. This morning I wake up to an email from my bank that the holds on my funds (the pending withdrawal for funding Bank of the West) have been released back into my account because the transaction has expired. So now it's been a week. They no longer have my opening deposit, have not acknowledged receipt of my documents, and have made no effort to open my accounts. I guess they don't want my business?
I'm not claiming to be some high roller here, just an average member of the community looking for a decent bank to put my money in. Clearly, they are not able to complete even such a simple task. I guess it's better that I find out now that they have terrible service BEFORE I opened an account. Too bad I just wasted all that time.

While the loan was being processed, I needed to constantly follow up, with multiple emails or phone messages, to even get a response. Now, the loan is complete, and I'm making payments, but I've been waiting for over 5 weeks to get the registration and title. I've been calling and emailing, and can't get any answers. I attempted to sign up for an account online, everything was fine and legit, and didn't think twice about anything. Then I get a notice that my application has been sent for an extended review. Then I get a notice that they need more documentation and will essentially accept any document from a third-party that is addressed to my new address. So I go ahead and scan and submit that documentation. Then get another email saying that that document is not sufficient and that they need another document. Now normally I would accept this kind of bureaucratic b.s. except that I already had another local/regional bank already accept my documents and open an account for me. And I also rec'd a thank you and welcome letter from that bank.
The only reason I was going to open a BOW account is that the bank is literally one block from where I live and I figured it might be more convenient. But if this is the red tape they put prospective customers through, I have no interest in pursuing a relationship with them. This was not a good experience and a waste of time. Especially considering that one of their competitors already has my business and opened an account with no hassles or issues like that. As someone else mentioned on here, I don't think BOW really cares about the customer experience. It just seems like a bunch of mindless bureaucrats.

They received the payment on July 3rd. I can no longer access my account online. I have called 5 times (with each wait time of a minimum 45 minutes) to see when I can get this loan to show as paid so the people who want to buy the camper can transfer the title. I have been told different time frames every time I call. I was told they would fax me a payoff letter that I never received. The next time I called they emailed me a payoff letter that was not on company letterhead.
I called the DMV and was told that it was an electronic title and they need to electronically release the lien, but if I have a signed payoff letter on company letterhead I could bring that in and the new owner could have a temporary registration. I called again today and asked for a supervisor. I was guaranteed that he would send a new letter on company letterhead by email, which I have yet to receive. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen.

I called Bank of the West for debit card access being denied. I called once and gave information to satisfy security for the customer service agent. She told me she reset the card and I should have access debit card. She also informed me the bank was having technical issues with debit cards. The reset did not work. I called back within five minutes. The agent was rude and harassed me to the point of me requesting a supervisor. I gave two transactions for security she request to the cent and day the transaction. They worked just fine with the first call agent I spoke with who reset my card. This agent stated my information was not acceptable. Let’s review. I gave my account number, social security last four digits, all my account information, two transactions to the penny, and day. I gave her more information related to other accounts I had as well. She was clear I had not given her adequate information for her to access my account.
I requested a supervisor and sat on hold for over 20 minutes. The supervisor was just as unsupportive and demanded more information because the security information I for a third time gave was not enough to access my account. I was able to verify everything and verify monthly transactions, recent checks I paid through bill pay, and companies to which I have automatic payments set up. None of this was acceptable. She pursued and asked me questions related to my personal history. She asked me about cars in the past that I leased, about my university mascot, and one the pertained to my ex-husband’s father. This question asked me if I knew of farmland he owned. I told her I had not seen my father in law for over ten years, how would I know his farmland purchase history.
She was full of rudeness and said so "you are saying you are not associated to him?" I said I did not say the least, but I cannot answer that question with accuracy. I have no contact with him. I have no idea what property he owns. I am associated because he is the grandfather to my children. She then informed me because I did not answer the question correctly she would not unblock the purchase. All of this for a 25.00 book purchase for a masters program. I requested my accounts be closed. The supervisor closed my accounts. The remaining balances will be mailed to the address associated with the account. No verification needed to close and have remaining funds sent to address. Seriously, she authorized all accounts to be closed WITH NO VERIFICATION. TRISH WAS THE AGENTS NAME.
I was harassed and my rights to my money, my account was clearly violated. I gave every supporting piece of information they requested. They made up rules as one agent was absolutely fine with the information I provided and the others bullied me and harassed me and in the end refused to let me have access to debit cards, but authorized closing the accounts. This is not the first interaction with this company that is negligent. They pull this security bullying every time a customer calls. It is beyond security they are looking for, it is power. This company thinks they own the right to their customer's money and legal action should be taken to end this corrupt company.

I took out an installment loan with this bank and learned my first additional principal payment was held up for 3 weeks. When I called to inquire what the hold up was, I was advised their Alameda location was behind but I could expect my payment to clear within another week. I was hoping to reduce my interest payment on my loan by paying additional principal so the delay raised the first red flag about this institution. I have since used their Pay by Phone feature as their online payment system does not include an option for additional principal but this hasn't been easy to accomplish.
Believe me, customer service does NOT appear to be a priority here. First of all, be prepared to be on hold for at least 20 to 30 minutes just to make a payment (and this was before the COVID 19 Pandemic). Moreover, after clearly indicating the amount to apply to my monthly payment and what additional amount I wanted applied to principal, I found that only 1 out of 5 payments were processed correctly reflecting an interest difference of $301.00 in 5 months. I have contacted the Bank via e-mail to rectify this situation and will advise the outcome once I hear back from them.

The thing I look for in a bank is: Customer service, monthly fees and location. I have no monthly fees which is the only thing keeping me there right now. But I am starting to look around. For the last 11-12 years, I have a 25-30 minute drive to go to the bank, but have been there for about 20 years so that’s fine. However, Customer service is terrible. Oh they tell you all the time how great their customer service is.... but you just don’t see it. It is almost like if they keep telling you over and over how great they are you will believe it.
I had gone into the bank to make a withdrawal. I slid my debit card as instructed by the teller and she asked me to please slid again. That was fine. My card was still in my hand and I slid my card... She was looking at her screen for a bit and said something like “Whoops wrong person”... I responded with, "What???? I had slid my card..Oh my daughter.. Yes she is on my account.” The teller said no and gave my dad’s name. (He is not on my account). So this “Nosey Nancy” teller stated that she pulled me up by my name (remember I had slid my debit card) and let me know I was on my dad's account. That really bothered me as to why she was even in my dad's account.
A couple of days later I had to call the 800# for an issue regarding my dad. Someone may have gotten his account information and worried they may be able to get to my account. I was informed that I was a beneficiary and not a signer and my account was not linked to his and could not be gotten into. When I brought up what had happen a couple of days earlier and how the teller went straight from my debit card to my dad's account and that’s why I questioned it. He had no idea why the teller did this.
I called my branch spoke with the manager Chris on Monday. I explained what happened and asked why this would happen. He asked teller's name. I did not know but informed him of the date and time I was there. He said without the name there wasn’t much he could do but would look into this. He never called me back and makes me wonder how often she was playing in people’s account.
I was telling my daughter what happened and how bad that was, and she was saying she was having an issue buying something online. She had been calling the 800# With instructions that were not working. Now she was worried that maybe her account was being linked or mixed up some how. Like mine and my dad's. Told her to call Chris the branch manager. And good luck...(needless to say that was a waste of time but that is her story to tell if she decides to)...Moral of this story...IF THEY SPENT AS MUCH TIME ACTUALLY DOING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY BRAG ABOUT then they would be a good bank. Unfortunately I don’t think that will happen.

On 2/15 I opened an account online. I transferred money into both checking and savings accounts electronically. Those funds were put on hold for several days. New account, understandable. After waiting for a week and not receiving a debit card I called and asked what the status was. The guy on the phone told me the generic “cards can take up to 10 business days.” In my experience with other banks and credit cards it has always been 2-3 days max. I asked if I could go into the branch and have a card made at the branch like all other banks do. He told me that I could not.
On 2/28 I had a direct deposit submitted to Bank of the West. My payroll direct deposits have always been available immediately anywhere else I’ve banked. Funds were not released until 3/3. The woman I spoke with told me my employer didn’t deposit the funds to be available instantly. Huh? What is she even talking about??? Direct deposit is just that... direct.
During the past 2.5 weeks I’ve had to call multiple times inquiring about the debit card and money. The shortest wait time was today when I called about closing my almost 3 week old account. That was a 7 minute wait time before speaking to someone on the phone. The longest was my call on 2/28 which was “longer than normal hold time” that ended up being 28 minutes before a human answered. The DMV hold time is less than that. If you expect to have quick access to your money this is NOT the bank for you. The customer service people on the phone and in branch that I’ve dealt with are not helpful at all.

I purchased a car in 2016 using Bank of the West auto loan and I have had nothing but headaches using them ever since. I should have refinance out of that bank immediately once I knew of their unfair practices. As a young naive person, I didn’t care much about credit and did not pay close attention to my credit profile and credit reports.
In the process of rebuilding my credit I noticed I had multiple 30-day late reporting on my credit report from BOW. I started to investigate by pulling all my receipts and found, there were times I paid, and it was processed 28 days or 29 days past the due date but never a full 30 days in which and only when a company can report you as being a full 30 days late. I tried to dispute the facts with them, but they gave me a hard time and forced me to dispute it with the credit bureaus multiple times before they removed it with me showing my receipts. It was such a headache. I had to prove and use the correct credit reporting verbiage for the 30 day late to be removed. Showing only receipts will not overturn the original reported late. It took me a while to figure that out. It was actually a Trans-union account manager who informed of this and the proper way to dispute to get them to remove it. I am reporting them to the FDIC.

We bank at a few different banks. Bank of the West has long been my least favorite for a few reasons.
2. $5 monthly service fees.
3. The MOMENT a charge goes through they will charge a $35 overdraft fee if you have insufficient funds. Bank of America, for example, will not charge you that overdraft fee until the transaction fee has completed processing, thus giving you time to correct you error.
4. Bank of the West charged me TWO $35 fees today bc a $1.05 charge went through after the charge that caused the first overdraft fee and they would not reverse it. They literally see me once a week in there doing my banking and they just said no.
The lesson? Bank at Bank of the West ONLY if you never make any mistakes! Or actually don't bank there. Go to Bank of America, they are the best. I would give Bank of the West 0 stars if I could.

I have been a loyal customer of Bank Of The West for over 30 years. I was told to stay away from the large banks because they are predatory and will use bait and switch tactics on you. Bank of The West was just right, not too small, not to large. Transactions have always been easy, and customer service had always been top-notch. Bank Of The West, has a credit line that you pay $25 dollars for to use as a overdraft account if needed. This is called a "Gold Line" account. This was great since I work for the State of California, I only get paid once a month, and I don't need to move money over from my savings account every day for purchases while using my debit card.
Apparently, corporate managers wanted to make more money, and started to charge a "fee" for each time the "Gold line" is activated. So in 5 days, you can use your ATM for lattes, gas, kids diapers, and it will transfer money from your credit line, triggering a $12 fee each time. So for 4 purchases, you may be charged $48, for the privilege of having a account. What was the $25 yearly fee for? Who knows. I have a 840 credit score with several credit cards that I do not use because i used my debit card for everyday purchases. I understand there were lawsuits for this shady practice, but the branch manager has not return my phone calls to ask for a reversal of these fees that amount to $444 for 12 months. I belong to 2 credit unions, so this is most likely my last bank I will use.

I’ve been with Bank of the West since my high school days. I’m mad that it took me this long to realize what a crap bank this is! I’ve been calling mobile banking for an entire month regarding a Zelle payment that was deposited into my bank account and then wiped out as if I never received it, although it was still in my zelle past transactions as if I had still had it. Every time I called mobile banking they told me that they’ve never seen anything like it and that they were opening a ticket with zelle and “investigating” the transaction. Most of the mobile banking representatives I spoke to were nice but they never had an answer as to what happened to my money. Finally the last guy I spoke to was by far the worst. He made me feel like a liar and like I was the one who had to figure out what happened to my money. He spoke over me like a child and didn’t let me get a word in until I finally just had enough and hung up.
The only reason I started to use zelle was because it was a service provided by BANK OF THE WEST through mobile banking, so I was certain any transactions I did through them were safe, however I was wrong. With that being said, my bad review is based on them not protecting my money and then not doing ANYTHING about it to help me recover the issue. I even visited one of the branches near my house to try to file a claim and they told me I couldn’t file a claim on a zelle charge but the lady was quite certain my money was just sitting somewhere being “investigated.”
On top of that they always took forever to process what was suppose to be instant transactions. Most of my instant transactions were suppose to be in my bank account within minutes but instead took 2-3 BUSINESS days. They don’t let you transfer any funds past 7 and they overdraft you for any little thing. Save yourself the trouble and find another bank to bank with. Your money isn’t safe with this bank.

For some reason they are constantly letting charges go through 2, 3 or even 4 times for things I’ve never had issues with before I switched to these guys. They also flag random purchases so my card gets denied and I look like a dummy at the store. The only answer they ever give is “it’s a hold from the vendor”. That’s crap considering it never happened with my last bank. I also don’t buy it because it’s always a difference of 1 cent. A couple of months ago they flagged a gas purchase at Shell so my card kept getting declined. Customer Service said “you never get gas here so it got flagged.”... I literally live across the street from Shell, so I don’t understand that logic. They tried to tell me they would allow that purchase only but I need a refund card. I have been accounts holder of BOW for many many years and I ordered a checkbook as I used to do. But after 3 weeks, I still had not received the book yet and called. The representative told me that they sent to the checkbook to a wrong address and not worry they would stop the use of the checkbook. I was shocked they took this lightly and I asked if they are sure my account is safe because my route number and account number can be in a wrong person and jeopardized my account.
Then she said I need to go to the branch office, close the account and open an new account. My god, why I had to spend my time and little bit of money (send the application to Edison, gas, water, homeowner's association,,, etc) to cover the Bank of the West incompetent employee who sent the checkbook to the wrong address. No sincerity or professionalism within this bank any longer which were proved by so many previous reviews before me. Yes. I will close the account and change the bank other than BOW degraded bank service.

Earlier this year I opened new accounts at Bank of the West under a promotional offer. I handed the promotional code/offer from the BOTW site to a branch manager, who personally opened the account, and verified that I would get the maximum bonus. This never happened, and I contacted customer service who said "the person opening the account didn't use the right code to open it". I have attempted to contact the branch manager for several weeks to discuss it. None of my calls or emails have been answered.
In addition when opened she offered a "line of credit". I responded that I had plenty of available credit and didn't need it, but she said "might as well, no harm in case you ever do". What she didn't tell me was there was a fee assessed on my first statement for this. I was considering also buying CDs here in 2020, but will go elsewhere, as I am concerned about the lack of integrity and poor customer service due to no reply on my request for explanation after a month of attempts.

I walked in, handed my check to cash, check was for thousand dollars, I swiped my ATM card, entered my pin and waited to get my money. Teller said she can't cash my check from my Citibank account. I asked why, she said I don't have enough to cover the check I'm presenting. Here's the issue, I worked as teller, and I know most procedures haven't changed much. I'm presenting check drawn on Citibank, not Bank of the West; therefore whether or not I have enough funds to cover should not play a role. Instead of offering me other options, deposit today and you can withdraw tomorrow, or withdraw what's available which is in my account, she just stood there. I offered to deposit and withdraw, was told I can't deposit either. I asked to see a supervisor; she said they aren't a supervisor or branch manager here.
Then I asked if there's no supervisor or manager or assistant manager, (from my banking days, one is always available). I asked for phone number to call, a man walked over and without presenting himself as branch manager or giving me a name, he asked me to leave. He also said I can take it to my branch which is Glendale branch and have them do it there. I explained why I should drive to Glendale since Bank of the West is Bank of the West regardless of location. He said that's that and I should leave. I asked him to give me his name and position and supervisor name for me to contact, he told me "I'm closing your account". Imagine my shock when I'm trying to cash a check and I'm being imposed just disgrace. I asked why he's closing my account, his answer was "Because I can, I have the authority" then he highlighted some lines from a book and handed to me with a letter that he's closing my account as of today.
Still in shock, since I have no idea why, I just want my money from my account, I asked him again to give me explanation and contact number, then he said he's the branch manager and he can do whatever he wants, handed me the letter and asked to leave. I said I have direct deposits and auto bills from this account; he can't just close it for no reason. He said he can and if I don't leave he will call the police. I left in hurry and they still have my Citibank check from my personal account payable to cash at their possession.
I'm writing this letter because I feel I was discriminated. I don't know what reason but you don't treat a human being that way. I felt threaten by his actions from telling me that he has all the power and can do whatever he wants to calling policy to get me arrested. I left in fear and I still feel anxious and disturbed by all this. I did drive to Glendale office to speak with my branch manager Haroot, but he said he can't do anything about it.
Whether or not I will have this account with Bank of the West or not, that's that the issue, issue here is the fact Bank of the West have employees like branch manager Armen ** with lots of issues. I'm not a psychologist but people with issues should not be in possession there they can use their EGO to go after law abiding citizens. I would very much like to keep my account open. If it's not a possibility then I will work to get my banking life back together with Citibank or Bank of America, where I have accounts. But I would like for Bank of the West Corporate to take a look at what's going on at the branches and people they put in charge with issues.

I don't wish this complaint to reflect upon the persons in any particular branch since most seem to do an ok job within the bank's policies. This is intended for the Bank of the West institution itself. Before now I have never had a bank that "floated" MY money so often and so long. How can you make a cash deposit unavailable for two days? They have a way! Worse yet there is an absolute lie on their reporting to the credit bureaus about an account I had with them. And after more than 2 hours on the phone: they won't correct the mistake; they have to stick to their policy no matter what; they can't change (correct) what they did; THEY DON'T CARE. BEWARE of this institution--they will find ways to take advantage of you for their benefit--once your money is in their bank, it may not be yours again for a while--BEWARE.

Now that we are trying to stop the recurring deposit into BOW checking account, we realized that their online banking does not have the option of canceling the payments.
When I called to resolve this issue, first lady told me some nonsense about how I should contact the other bank I'm transferring funds from even though I set up the transfers from BOW online account. When I called back to speak to another representative, the new person didn't even listen to my concerns and transferred me to a wrong department. I was transferred 2 more times after that. When I finally got to the 4th representative, I was helped accordingly. 25% customer service success rate is pretty pitiful.

I used to have several accounts at BOW, both personal and checking plus an IRA. I could not get the personal banker at my branch to call me and she was never available when I went there in person. The bank manager was never there or was busy when I went in and would never return calls. I had a business account to use the BOW app to upload checks but they set my limit so low I could not upload all my checks. I requested several times over a 2 year period that they increase the limit but they refused. After 2 years of poor customer service and no help, I finally closed all my accounts and put them in another bank which has much better customer service and gave me the daily deposit limit (through app) that works for my business. After I left, BOW started calling me asking me to bring my business account back but I refused. They have also increased my daily deposit limit but too late - they don't know what good customer service means and they don't care.

I have been charged so much money in fees it's unbelievable. All because the way they post your transactions. I check my account often with the app to make sure I've got money. Couple days ago, I knew I had like $8 so I spent $5 at jack in the box. Then I was almost out of gas so I bought $2 in gas to get home. Under the $8 right. Wrong. They decided to back-post an $18 online purchase that wasn't showing until I checked my account over $100 in the negative. I don't get it.
Couple of months ago I tried to buy a couple things online but their watchdog company suspected fraud and denied payment and put a double hold on my account. The girls at my local branch said they've never seen before. So I couldn't purchase when I had money and was able to somehow spend $2 and $5 with no money in my account.
I deposited a paycheck same day, of course that's got a hold on funds. But another online purchase has come through that I made a month ago. It's paid of course with along with another $35 fee. $140 total this time but it's happened so much in the past 5 years. They will always manipulate your posts in their favor. Whether it's a deposit, online charge, debit transaction or ATM withdrawal.
I've written emails asking them to look at my account and see just by switching one post, I could have avoided hundreds of dollars in fees. Also continuing to hold my deposited checks even though I've never had a check come back unpaid. They used to be great but now everything is automated and when you complain you get is an automated response stating bank policy.

I spend 15-45 minutes on the phone each time. They think they have the answer but does not happen. Super frustrating since I don't live in the area. I can't walk in and get a new pin. Totally at the mercy of the customer service people on the phone. Three or four of the phone customer service people I could not understand and were very annoyed and upset by my request to repeat themselves several times so maybe they ignored my request to send a new pin. Others though seem to be competent but still no pin. My thought is it should be an easy process.

In my 30 + years now with B.O.W I have had minor issues with them. Most no big deal, once they did something to really piss me off and at the time I had financed a truck with them. I had the money to pay for the truck but didn't want to use it and the interest rate wasn't bad so I financed it. After they did whatever it was – I can't remember – I paid the loan off so they wouldn't get any more interest from me. Other than small issues for about 11 years they started calling me literally almost every 3 weeks to verify my last 3 charges on my debit card. Borderline harassment in my opinion so I got a Cabela's credit card and that's all I ever used. Then they charged me 3 overdraft fees for something that wasn't my fault and would only waive 1 of them telling me I had to take it up with the credit card service that double dipped my account so I pulled my money market savings account and put it in my other bank.
Just recently I had a vehicle repair at a local dealer and tried to use my B.O.W Visa to pay for it through a secure text which was declined. About 5 minutes later I get a phone call asking about that charge and I verified it. They said the card would be taken off hold within 30 seconds, I called my wife to have her make the payment over the phone. The very next morning which was a Saturday I stopped in a McDonald's like I do every Saturday so at that time the card was active. After I left work I stopped in at Lowe's to pay for a door I was in the process of working out with them. When I tried to pay with the card it was declined. After trying it again with the same result I called my wife and had her bring her card down. Same thing. Declined. Needless to say I was furious.
We called their 1-800 customer service number to see why. They thought it would be a good idea to play stupid and tell us we would have to go into a branch to get it fixed. Well it's like 1:00PM Saturday so we would now have to wait until Monday. That wasn't going to work for me as I was leaving on vacation for a week the next day Sunday morning and was counting on that card for all the expenses but needless to say they don't give a damn so now I have canceled the card and am in the process of closing my checking and 3 savings accounts I have with them and will never do any business with B.O.W again for any reason.

Sold my RV on 8/23. Mailed a check (the buyer's) to BOTW same day. Also same day paid small balance by e-payment thru bank. By 8/28, no online access to my acct. Called on 8/28. Balance is zero. When will I get title? Once payment clears, which takes 5 to 10 business days, they'll process title. How long will that process take? 5 to 10 business days. Called 9/13. Title was mailed today. Called 9/23. Yes, title was mailed 9/13, but they won't pursue any follow up until 5 to 10 business days after mailing date. If no title by 9/27 (10th business day after said mailing), they'll initiate a process (you guessed it ... which takes 5 to 10 business days) to review to ensure title is clear.
Wait! You already knew title was clear if you released it on 9/13, so you don't have to start all over. "Well m'am, that's our procedure." Then another 5 to 10 business days to obtain another title. Meanwhile, our buyer's temp registration has expired (it was for three weeks) so can't use RV. So, no title as of 9/24; if none by 9/27 - one day shy of a month since they closed the account - we're facing a minimum of another two sets of 5 to 10 business days.
Oh, if you have a loan with these crazies, first of all my condolences. Second, DO NOT OPT FOR PAPERLESS STATEMENTS. Not only will they stop mailing you statements, they'll stop generating them altogether and you can't even view one online. If you request one, they'll be happy to send you one ... for a fee. Rude, rigid customer service. Oh, and when (not if) you must make that dreaded call, the recording will ALWAYS say they're experiencing a high volume of calls and the hold will be about 12 minutes. That message NEVER changes. I will do without if BOTW is the only bank willing to finance. I recommend the same to you.

My husband and I are named in a trust for life insurance proceeds. Mind you the trust was set up in May. We have still yet to receive the funds due to banking regulations that hairs being split due to the "reasonable time" extended holds on new accounts. Our attorney suggested Bank of the West and we didn't have any apprehensions. In hindsight we should have read these reviews and that of the BBB BEFORE agreeing.
We have now incurred many hours of attorney fees and had to get a court order to release the funds (which we are transferring to a totally non-affiliated bank) and are being told they have 24 hours to review. This has been the most unbelievable experience ever. My husband has been in banking for 20 years and I have been in banking for 10 years. We thought it a good idea, due to the amount of funds being received to diversify and not put it all in our current banks. We will be reporting this to the CFPB and the Banking Commission as well.
NOTE: we have confirmed with an ABA (American Banking Association) consultant that they have violated the banking regulations by not providing a notice at the time of the in person deposit when the funds are expected to be released and after the 9-10 days they verbally stated they would be available and decided to put the extended hold on the funds and still did not provide a letter notifying of the extended hold but only advised when we inquired of the funds. Once our funds are released... we are filing a suit against this bank. RUN do not walk away from this horrible banking establishment.

I'd advise just getting an account with USAA, or US Bank. (Or even Chase, Citi, or Wells Fargo, if you need a BIG Bank.) Credit Unions are always the way to go if you can do local, and don't need sophisticated online services. This bank should be called, "Bank of the Fees"! Terrible service at this branch! Bank anywhere else, if you can. My wife, who had her personal and small business account here, got charged over $500 in fees just to import her own transaction data into Quicken! And then there's all the other fees for stupid things (NOT insufficient funds, or anything that's her fault!).
When I went in to talk to them and complain on her behalf, I had an email that she had written to authorize me to speak for her. (She hates confrontation.) But they refused to talk to me, saying that they had to talk to her. So I called her and handed them the phone. Then they said that she needed to call them. She called their number and then they said that they really only would talk to her! And I heard them say they were "busy" on the phone. I got a bit angry, and then the branch manager poked his head out and I engaged with him. Total run-around! This bank is based in France, and they charge HUGE fees. They seem totally out of touch, and couldn't care less about their US customers. I'd give 0 stars, if I could!

We bought a 2014 Motor Coach in 2016 through BOTW and was not informed by the dealership that it had been involved in an accident. Had we done a history check on the vehicle it would have shown the vehicle had been owned by 4 other people before us within a 2 year time frame. We wondered if the vehicle had been in an accident because of certain things being damaged and/or missing, but being new to the Motor Coach family we were unaware of things. It was causing us $1000's of dollars every time we went on a trip because it had to go back into the shop upon our return from a trip because something else would be going on with it. Well, after being told we'd have to pay $2000 more just to diagnose what could be wrong with the vehicle because they'd found Coolant in the oil, we decided to relinquish it back to the bank.
BOTW sold it and sent us a bill for the unpaid remainder of the debt, $50,000. So the following day we called BOTW to see what we needed to do to arrange to pay this debt, and Michelle stated our options would be to pay the $50,000 at once or $350 monthly. We chose to do the monthly and gave her the banking info to set up auto payments. We received a letter dated 22 Jul 19 that said we would be getting a monthly reminder with an envelope for the agreed payments. We never got this, and wasn't concerned because we'd arranged to autopay. I was out of town on the 1st of the following month, and the payment didn't appear, so I notified my husband.
On the 5th, my husband called and spoke with Michelle, again, and she claimed we hadn't set up any payment arrangement and gave him an address to mail the payment to. He explained he needed to get with me to see what I'd arranged and what we needed to do because he knew I'd already gave the banking info. Upon my return on the 12th, I phoned and spoke with Tim, who said Michelle had stepped away, so I explained to him the situation and he said he didn't want to take the payment info again and me get double charged, because their office that handles the payment processing was 2-3 weeks behind, so he transferred me to Michelle's voicemail and I left her a message and requested her to return my call, to no avail. So on the 15th they turned our account over to collections.
On 7 Aug I called Michelle again and she claims she didn't get that info from me and refused to discuss with me anything and would only speak with my husband, so we asked to speak with her supervisor. Ms ** answered the phone and I explained the situation to her and she said she needed to pull the recordings and review the conversations and call me back but it probably wouldn't be today but maybe tomorrow. Well, tomorrow came and went and on the following Monday 12th, I called again and ** requested me give her the dates and times again and to give her 15 minutes. Apparently she didn't do as she claimed she would.
45 mins later she called and claims there was no discussion of payment info, which is obviously a lie, and there was nothing she could do. She even quoted my husband incorrectly when he spoke with Michelle on the 5th. I think they're trying to cover their tracts and document lies and not listening to the actual recordings, because we know what we discussed and its impossible not to hear the info being provided if it was actually recorded. Liars and frauds! Now we're having to wait and rely on ** to contact the collections and withdraw our file. I doubt she will even follow through with that!

The next day Friday I called back and they said if I had called the day prior that they could’ve reversed it and that now it’s going to take through the weekend because of business days. So I wait and call back on Monday when it still wasn’t done that gentleman told me it would take 3 to 5 business days. Which would make it Thursday that it would be transferred back. I was wrong. My bank statement shows that the deposited money cleared and AFTER they charged me a 175 overdraft fee. Because the 8 were all $1 payments. So they gave me 5 $35 over 5 $1 payments. But they also went on ahead and waited another day to finish processing things because they only charge 5 fees a day. So then the next day I'm hit with 70. And this morning another random $35.
But looking at my money going in and out minus the overdraft fees I should be positive. They never needed to front money for me for anything except these fees. My total right now is -$256, but how much sense does that make if they charged me -275 in overdraft fees. My balance should be negative more than the fee amount had I actually gone over. What they mean is they've cut their Customer Service so much there's no one there to take your call. They don't care about the customer. I was on hold for over one hour and finally when the rep answered they cut me off. I phoned again and waited another 30 minutes. My account is locked due to me putting in wrong information. I called them at 5:00 am and got exactly the same message. I am now on hold for another hour. DO NOT BANK WITH THIS BANK. THEY DON'T CARE. As I write this I am listening to the same stupid message. I have been a loyal customer of Bank of the West for over 7 years. I currently have my savings, checking and RV loan with Bank of the West. In July of 2017 I started a divorce and my spouse failed to make a payment on my RV. I contacted the bank and caught up the missing payment. I have requested they remove the late payment ding from my credit report, based on past and current payment history however they have refused.
To add insult to injury they billed me $50.00 for the late payment in May of 2019, nearly 2 years later from the late payment. I just spoke to the customer service department and was told the 50 fee was from a late payment in 2016 and one in 2017, funny they never took it out or notified me of the due bill until I made an extra payment, in fact she said they would usually just bill it at the end of the loan but since I made the extra payment they took it out. HMM. I again requested they explore removing the negative mark from my credit report given my loyal patronage and payment history. I was told that cannot be done legally.
Well Lexus did it, CitiBank and Chase did it, once they were apprised of the reason the payment was late and once I was never late again. SO I ask, why bank with a corporation that does not care about the loyal customer? I know I will not bank with them again, they can rest assured I will close my accounts and refinance my RV loan with a lender who puts the customer first. BE cautious with this lender and bank.

My home was damaged May 5th in Wichita, KS. My insurance company sent my claim check in my name and Bank of the West. Instead of endorsing the check and giving it back so I could start the process of the roof replacement they took the insurance check and kept it. Said they would send another check in 10 to 14 days. After waiting and waiting on what is "my money" not theirs I called. They wanted information I had already provided to an employee who went on vacation and apparently they couldn't access her email. They wanted the licensed number to the roofer and his quote. They were going to send the check directly to him. My roofer has been doing this work for over 20 years and has never had a mortgage company do this. So what happens if I decided on another roofer, or this one takes money without doing the work.
So it's my money, I pay insurance not the mortgage company, I'm not required to use a license roofer, if I want I could do it myself. I also don't need them to pay my roofer when I'm quite capable of making out the check. Then if there is anything left over they couldn't tell me where that money was going. This sounds really shady. The bank manager said this was just their policy. Well it wasn't 9 yrs ago when we replaced previous roof. They weren't even on the check we had a roof in 7 days. I'm over a month and a half and still no roof, because apparently I'm not allowed to handle my own dang money. I will be spreading the word to everyone I know. Luckily my son-in-law & daughter are real estate agents and can refer people not to do business with them. I don't even know how this is legal.

However it still shows up as pending instead of posting at midnight with my charges that put me negative in the first place. Ricky ** is the most unresponsive individual that I have tried to work with in many years. He does not answer his phone, nor does he respond to e-mail or voicemails. Natasha is the worst customer service representative that I have dealt with in many years and she has no business dealing with the public. Jim ** is the Supervisor and he also doesn’t answer his phone or return phone calls.
Because I couldn’t reach Ricky or Jim, and Natasha was so unhelpful, I left messages for three other people and never got a response from any of them. This process has been dragging on for two weeks! This company is so bad, that I am reconsidering my relationship with the Good Sam Club, as I can’t believe you would tarnish your reputation by affiliating with this type of bank. I was not adequately notified of the new fee and it cost me 24.00. If Bank of the West has 1,000,000 accounts and they started charging $3.00 a month each then they made $3,000,000 the first month and if on average it takes 4 months for people to realize the fee is there that is $12,000,000 dollars they have stolen from their customers through deceptive practices.

Do not borrow money from this bank. They don't care one bit about their customers. I made that mistake and took out a loan from them to buy a boat. The first 4 years or so I paid extra on the note each month. I ended up getting kind of lazy on my payments because I had paid so far ahead on the loan. After about 10 months or so I was no longer paid ahead on the loan and got a call from the bank to let me know. I mailed a payment that day. A couple weeks later I got another call saying that I still hadn't made the payment asking me to pay over the phone. I told them no that I had mailed a payment.
Over the next couple of weeks I got about three calls a week harassing me about the payment. I continued to tell them I sent the payment. I finally gave in and stop payment on the first check and sent them another. I called to confirm that the mailing address was correct (I was using the address sticker that came with my payment book). The address had not changed.
Each week for the next 6 weeks or so I continued to get harassed by them 3 or 4 times a week about the payment because somehow they never received the second check that I had sent. It had already cost me $20 to stop payment on the first check they never got. I finally got fed up and asked them for the pay-off amount and told them I was tired of the harassment and mailed a third check for the balance of the loan. It took 22 days for that check to be processed all the while I am getting harassed 3 or 4 time a week and taking negative hits on my credit rating. Here is the kicker... on the same day they processed the pay-off check they also processed the second check I had sent them 6 weeks earlier.
Finally, today I spoke to a gentleman who actually cared and help me resolve the issue. He was going to process the refund for the second check and remove the negative hits to my credit rating. The phone call today was 50 minutes long. So, even though I was never late I was repeatedly harassed, treated like a dead beat, had negative hits on my credit, spent close to 12 man hours on the phone on hold mostly, spent $20 for a stop payment, and now they owe me money. What a freaking joke. Throughout all of this I talked to one person who actually provided customer service the way it should have been handled. Every other person I spoke to over these 90 days couldn't be bothered to help. I thanked the guy today who helped me and told him that if my home was getting foreclosed on and if I didn't have a penny to my name that I would not take a loan from this bank. They were also frustrated in the unprofessionalism and incompetence. Never again!!!
Original Review: Paying off Loan - We had an RV that was refinanced with Bank of the West. We sold the RV December 1, 2018. Per the request of the new Lender we called Bank of the West for a copy of the front & back of the Title and a 15 day payoff. The only way BOW would send the requested items is by fax and snail mail so we gave them the fax # & our address. After not receiving anything by fax or mail we called again. This went on 3 weeks. We finally received via fax a copy of front of the Title and a 10 day payoff that was already expired.
Everything finally closed on 12/28/18 but only due to the new Lender that went over and beyond to jump through BOW hoops. On 1/3/19 we received via snail mail a copy of the back of the Title & a payoff on 1/4/19. We also got an alert that there was a change on our credit report. BOW put a zero balance and then put a new balance and then we received another letter stating our new payment and a new coupon book & that started a new set of headaches. Bank of the West goes above and beyond all other companies to make their process more difficult for the average person. Their customer service plays into this by not knowing what they are talking about and giving false information. I have found the only way to ensure you get the proper information is to call multiple times, ask the exact same question, take the closest 3 answers and fill in the blanks. Usually I have to call at least 5 times to get 3 answers that are similar in nature. This is assuming that you are able to get through the tangled web of their automated system to get a live representative.
Some days their system is so bad that it is a constant loop of automated answers and simply pressing zero just disconnects the call. Then when you submit forms or payments as discussed with the phone rep the individual processing the transaction will still usually mess it up requiring you to call and play the automated game trying to find someone that can fix the problem. I will NEVER do business with this institution again and I will discourage all that I can from dealing with them saving them the pains that I have to deal with.

Even though I've deposited the cash they say it's not there and tells me to deposit more. It's funny that I can see the deposit on my mobile account and online but they say it's not there. So again I'm charged $35.00. It's ridiculous. It's even more ridiculous getting customer service to treat customers with dignity and respect. Instead they choose to try and make me feel as if I've done something wrong and I have not. I would not recommend this bank to anyone and if you are already banking there I would suggest looking into other options.

I have had a mortgage with this bank on auto-pay since Janurary 2006. I received a call this evening and the CID showed Toll Free Call 1-866-243-1808. They stated they were Bank of the West and that a “banker" wanted to discuss redoing my loan. They said they had sent a number of marketing pieces in the mail - I have received NOTHING from them. They obviously had no information about my mortgage account as they were offering a higher interest rate than I actually pay plus the fee for just the paperwork was quoted at $875 plus all the additional title and appraisal costs. They didn't properly identify themselves and they think I should spend at least $2000 to redo a loan that has a higher interest rate than I currently pay.
This is unbelievably bad form on Bank of the West. Their "marketing department" needs to get it together as this makes them look like a total SCAM operation. Over the last 12 years they have made so many mistakes and been so impossible to work with that I would chose ANY OTHER bank for my home mortgage over Bank of the West.

1st off let me start by saying I have been a Bank of the West customer since almost the day they opened their locations in Reno, Nevada; which was 18 years ago. I currently have two bank accounts, a savings account, a business loan, a business credit card and I process all my credit card transactions through this bank. Dave the branch manager at the Lietzke, Ln branch has single handedly lost my business after 18 years. I will be finding new bank today. On Tuesday I went in to the Reno Nevada branch location and paid $9000 cash towards my business loan. Today is Friday and the loan payment has still not been posted.
After speaking to the only helpful person that I have dealt with through this process (Jennifer... here in Sacramento) I found out that when they made this payment they posted it incorrectly. I spoke to Dave on Wednesday to find out why my payment had not been posted to my account and he basically brushed me off telling me it would take several days and that was about it. Our phone conversation was 48 seconds long.
Now today; 3 days later it's still not posted. when I've been trying to receive help regarding this issue he boldface blatantly lied to the Sacramento location. He told her that on Wednesday he told me he was looking into the payment and why it had not been posted but that is a flat lie. He brushed me off and told me that it would take several days to post and that's it. He talked to me rudely and condescendingly as well as lied about what he said to me. And my payment is still not posted and they're saying it could take another 48 hours to post. Considering it is Friday 48 hours really means for more business days. This is ridiculous and they have lost a customer.

On September, 18 2018 I had my truck repo. I immediately thought it was stolen for the reason that I had made a payment on that previously Monday. Never did I imagine my truck being repo so I went to the police and they search it. To my surprise it was at the repo yard. So when the finance company finally open I called and ask why was the reason my truck got repo and they said because they’ve been trying to call to schedule a payment and since they don’t get a hold on no one they automatically thought I was trying to avoid not paying the bill. The same lady that help me out don’t took it upon herself to noifty on Monday when I made the payment that my truck was already on the system for repo.
Tuesday when I called it was the same lady. She gave me attitude. I know I wasn’t the one they gave the loan to. It was my dad but I was the one paying for the truck. I’m not gonna lie. I was behind a month and a half but from what I know they can’t repossess your vehicle unless you are three to four months behind. To make matters worst she tells my dad to not let me make any future payments because I’m not in the loan but we did send a paper where my dad sign it saying he was giving me authority to make future payments so don’t know if they lost the paper. But this lady was the worst of the worst you would imagine. I they want is their money but her telling my dad don’t let me make any payments smh unbelievable. Anyways her name is Reyna. I’m pretty sure I’m not the first that has encountered problems with this lady.

When I realize that I made the overpayment, I called and they said that they would send me a check in five business days. It has been 33 days and I still have not received a check. When I called to ask about the status of the check, they told me that I needed to prove that they were overpaid. I have spoke with several people at the customer service department and nobody seems to know where the money was put, but they said it could take up to several months to get my money back.
Upon paying off my vehicle, I asked for a lean release or proof that the loan was paid off. I was told they would send me a lean release in the mail. It has been over a month and I still do not have any kind of proof that my loan is paid off. When I called and talk to you alone supervisor, through the customer service number, I told her that in my state we need to provide the county clerk with a lien release. She told me that was not her problem and hung up on me. I have called several times, and each person I talk to, says something different. And when we went in to open a saving account the branch manager failed to tell us of the account that was only $25.00 to open. He only mentioned the highest ones because my mother is an elderly woman and I guess he didn’t think I had the slightest clue. Also when they ask me to verify with written consent so they can contact me on my mother's loan, which I have yet to give them, they CONTINUE to call me! But when I call (because I’m not on the loan documents) all of a sudden they can’t discuss it with me. Also when you do call their collections dept. they’re very rude. But we reap what we sow. WORST BANK EVER. I only had account for 2 months but had nothing but problems and finally got a letter from them opting to close my account. I opened my account and received my DMV registration. I used bill pay to pay it. I thought that because DMV is one of the largest "companies" in the US it would be in the 21 Century and my payment would electronically be paid. I received my registration and tags in the mail and thought all was well until I came home on a Fri about 2.5 weeks later and got a notice from the bank that a check I had written for $384 had bounced and was charged $35. I immediately called and explained that I had just opened an account and that at my previous bank when I made a bill pay the bank deducted payment at that time so I had a "living" balance so to speak. The rep was good and said he understood and we made a transfer of funds so that they would be there if the DMV tried again and he removed all fees.
Next day I got another snail mail and it said that they had tried to run the check through again, did not go through and charged me ANOTHER $35! (Never did they call or email me). Then the rep said that the DMV could try to cash it up to 4 x and that I should be sure and call the DMV on Monday and make sure that their bank tried to send the $ through again. Although she said they weren't supposed to she made an exception and after 40 minutes was able to remove the second $35 fee.
On Monday I called the DMV and that is where the nightmare started. I called and waited 1 hr. finally got someone who said I needed to call a different number. I called that number, waited another hr, and was disconnected. I called back and got a message that there would be a 72 minute delay. It also said if I wrote a bad check there would be a $30 fee and also a 65% fee of the original amount ($230) unless I could get the bank to say that it was their fault.
I decided to go to the main bank in Stockton and wanted to talk to the supervisor... But she was not in. I instead got the assistant manager. I explained the situation and asked if she could write a letter explaining the misunderstanding. She said she could not do it unless she got prior authorization from someone higher. I waited there for about 45 minutes and in the meantime kept trying to reach out to the DMV. Finally about the time the assistant manager came up with a letter DMV said just to go to the DMV and ask to the manager and take the cash to pay.
At that point I went to the teller and withdrew $384 as instructed by the DMV person on the phone. But something else had occurred in the meantime. On that Saturday I misplaced my debit card. I spoke to someone in customer service and asked what was the last place I used the card and also if he could just place a HOLD on my account so I could check and see if I could find it. Within 45 minutes I called back to notify them I had found it and asked to have the hold removed. She said she would.
On that Monday when removing the $384 to pay the DMV at the teller the teller said that there was a hold on my account. I explained that was not right. That I had put one on Sat but removed same. She said she would take care of it. MORE NIGHTMARE. Bank of the West actually CLOSED MY DEBIT CARD. So I could not withdraw money from the ATM or use my card. I did not find that out until later that week when I was HUMILIATED at Starbucks when I went to pay for a $5 purchase and my card was declined. I called and found out that the person had not put a HOLD on it but closed it without my authorization. I called and the bank said that a new card would take 7-10 business days. So now I could not get money out of my account as it was the weekend and had no access to my $ until Monday.
I talked to a manager at the corporate level and of course, I was upset, who wouldn't be...but he started stating that I was being abusive...which I was amazed at. They did not want to accept any responsibility for their person not doing their job right but wanted to turn the table on me and accuse me of being abusive... because I said that they should let the guy know how much he screwed up my life!!! I also at some point talked to another manager who said that he could not do anything but that I should talk to the retention center. I called the corporate office and asked to talk to the retention area...and the operator said, "What's retention?" She wanted me to give her the definition of retention. Finally she told me there was no retention center and then I called my local bank and asked for the district manager.
In the meantime I received a letter from BOTW stating that they were opting to close my account by Aug 17... another great inconvenience although I was going to close it anyway. And finally today about a week later I got that call after closing one account and removing most of my money from the other from the district manager... a day late and a dollar short? She was aware of my emails and problems but it took her that long to respond. She could have salvaged this account if she had called earlier. None of this would have occurred... And btw when you call for customer service for online banking you have extremely long waits. So I am in the midst of going elsewhere... and happy to say my nightmare with this bank will end. I will be surprised to see if they actually post this. Let's see if they can accept criticism.

I called the branch on Martin Luther King Blvd., and they said that in order to have my checking account online I had to fill out some paperwork.
My checking account had been online before I closed the savings account. I have no idea why they would just delete my checking account from online banking except for their massive incompetence. Over the past several years this bank has been slow to get accounts online, and has made errors causing me huge inconveniences. I re-financed my motor home & ended up w/ BOTW. Long story short, they have absolute idiots as CSRs, not to mention rude. Since the inception of my loan with BOTW, I have been making additional payments each month & each payment has been clearly marked as PRINCIPAL ONLY PAYMENT. With each check that I mailed to them, this was also noted in my cover letter in bold lettering, all CAPS & underlined.
What the morons at BOTW simply do not accomplish is reading the instructions in my letters or the memo on the check that clearly reads PRINCIPAL PAYMENT ONLY. So over the course of this loan, the idiots at BOTW charged me interest on four different principal only payments. This of course caused me to have to call these morons to have it fixed, as well has having to get supervisors on the phone because their CSRs either do not speak English worth a crap, they do not listen to what I'm telling them, or they rudely (& continually) interrupt me as I'm speaking. One CSR even had the gall to tell me that I was wrong & that the charged interest was correct on a principal only payment.
I was lucky enough to be able to pay off this loan & no longer have to deal with the clowns at BOTW. What they lost in potential interest by my closing out this loan may or may not amount too much. But they can blame their loss on their slipshod business & customer practices. Do not do business with these iggits. They don't deserve it.

The other bank could not talk to me as I don't bank there but I was told by them that BofW needed to contact them to resolve the issue. When I got to my destination they froze my account. It took two days of phone calls before I was able to use my card. Wouldn’t recommend them to anyone.

Made it my day start all bad. I went to deposit my money on Sat morning 09/23/2017. Was out there for 15 min. The teller seen me when depositing the money. Out of nowhere the ATM machine kept saying in process. 5min before opening I told them what going on. The teller just told me give it some time. When they open I told them what was going on instead of helping me they help 3 customers before me and I was the first person there. And on top of that made me late for work 40 min. But what upset the most was that they still wanted me to come back in one hour. Then she told I would have till Monday after my money card getting stuck there. They didn't bother to look into it. Because of that I didn't have no money because they had to do a claim and I wasn't able to get my car. But to collect the overdraft you guys are good but when come to helping you guys to take forever. I’m really disappointed with this bank. Smh.

Since becoming a customer with this bank last year, I have noticed that there have been repeated discrepancies involving what is reported as my balance (both available and current) and what is later changed to show an overdraft. For instance, I closely monitor my balance due to budgetary restrictions. I not only keep a running balance based on my records but I will check online and at the ATM site where I make my withdrawals to be sure I have enough that is "available" (the actual amount) to withdraw so that I am not overdrafted.
More than once, I have noticed the next day that the online system will suddenly show I am overdrafted after a withdrawal, when prior to the withdrawal it showed I had enough. This results in a deficit as well as a substantial surcharge. Even after I have called the bank, I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what they are doing to have this occur. When there have been outstanding checks or other debits that have not processed, I have deducted those from the balance so that can't be the answer. The only thing I can surmise is the bank is doing something with the reported balances as a deliberate way of obtaining the surcharge fee. Never, in all my years banking, have I ever observed this type of practice. This occurred yesterday, and I have decided to switch banks because I can no longer trust them.

I purchased a boat back in 2007. The financing was done by Bank of the West. I have had no problems with them until I paid off the loan in late July 2017. After waiting until about 15 August 2017 to receive the title I called the bank. I was told that all paperwork required had been sent out but they would send another copy. I waited until around the 27th of August 2017 and received the title for the trailer from Virginia DMV. I called customer service again and was told again all the paperwork was sent out but that the title was held by the dealer I purchased the boat from 10 years ago. I knew that was bull but told the customer service person I would contact Lynnhaven Marine and inquire.
I called them and as I expected they informed me that the title is always held by the lien holder which was Bank of the West. I called BOTW back and got a different person who again stated that all the required forms and paperwork were sent out to me on 11 August 2017. He stated that he will rush send out more copies but it would probably take about another 10 to 20 days for me to receive them. By the way I had him confirm they had my correct home address as I have been living here since 1988. He also stated BOTW could not be responsible for the time it takes the USPS to deliver mail. I am in the process of trying to sell my boat but can't complete the sale until I get the title.

Today I made what I thought was a simple transaction from the drive-in window transferring money from one account to another... After the transaction, the teller returned the tube with no paperwork or receipts. I ask her for the transaction receipts and her response was to give me balances on both accounts that were involved in the transaction. I ask her for receipts showing both the withdrawal and the deposit into the corresponding accounts and I was told she didn't know how to print those receipts. I asked her how long she worked in the bank and her response was 3 months. I asked her the question assuming she didn't know how to perform the receipt transaction and I told her I have copies of previous receipts showing the information that I requested... Deposit receipts. I proceeded to go inside the Bank of the West building to talk to the teller and was told the manager of the bank would discuss the situation with me...
I was ask to wait while the manager took care of another customer. When the manager appeared the explanation given to me was that was the method or process she taught her tellers and the method she was going to use and if I needed a receipt I was to ask for a receipt. The bank would do a "screenshot" of the account and use this print as the deposit receipt. I ask her if this is the method she uses for all her customers and her reply was "yes" so access to the funds were available immediately.
My statement to her regarding this method was without a deposit receipt was no proof that any transaction has taken place simply because I do not use account balances to quickly reconcile if the money was actually transferred to the accounts. She discussed that most of her customers banked "on line" and trust the system. They apologized for the inability to present me with deposit receipts and tried to leave me with the impression that I should trust the computer system.

The Back office is the Iron Curtain between old way & this new way. Some of this evolved out of the 2008 US "E" collapse. And we can thank Wall Street Financial Inst. & Congress for the over correction.

At a different bank the machine gives me fifteen bills like it was supposed to but in the middle was a $5 instead of a $20. I go inside and ask them to count the ATM out and find out what happened and of course they look at you like you're a second class citizen. Had to leave before I say something to get arrested. I also feel there is an issue as to how this has been handled. I asked for an accounting and was told this would cost me a lot of money. I would never use them for a trust and I should not have to get an attorney to obtain information.

I heard nothing back, not even an email that confirmed that I had applied until Friday the 27th. In the meantime I received another referral to BVNA Compass. Called, spent 30 minutes on the phone. She said, "We used to provide customer services, but people complained we called too early, so we don't do it anymore." IF ANYONE who worked for me said anything like that to a customer they would be fired on the spot.
Brittney who is hailed as a Customer service lead advised me it is the law for them to hold my check, it is not their policy. Then caught her later when she said only holding 5000 is the law, the rest of the time is their discretion. Liars and a previously good bank is going to follow the others if it doesn't get its act together. I want to file a complaint against your employee ** NMLS # ** located at the 201 N Church Street office in Las Cruces 88001. I had a Farmers Insurance check deposit transaction and received orders from Ms. ** instructions to get my wife to endorse the check and include the Farmers Insurance claim review information or statement. I said to Ms. ** this a deposit not a new loan, she shouts back at me, with four customers in the bank that the bank owns my house and requires this information. I told Ms. ** that the bank does not own my home, only has a lien on it. She again repeated that "the bank owns your house."
I return to the branch on Monday May 29 with the check from Farmers, endorsed by my wife with the deposit slip and the Farmers estimated cost to repair my roof and Ms. ** again shouts at me that "I told you I needed an estimate for the work and ID for you and your wife." I left and for the third time she shouts, "have a nice day." Where I come from that is personal curse that I should have sex with myself. I gathered together the information at home, made copies and return to the bank. Ms. **, after making me wait took the check, the deposit slip, the Farmers claim report and three estimates I had solicited. Ms. ** went in the back of the bank and I waited ten minutes for her to return. Ms. ** returned saying everything looked okay and again shouted at me "have a nice day". I told her she better stop saying that to me and I left.
There were four customers in the bank who heard this shouting from Ms. ** and they vocal demand to have a nice day... Ms. ** was rude, was not complete in what she needed causing me to make three trips to the branch, her shouting was out of line and not professional. Ms. ** needs to be removed from employment at the Bank of the West. Thank you for your time.

On the 25th day after talking to 3 different people the last Dana ** who claimed to be the manager and told me we had been talking to the WRONG people and they didn't know what they were saying. HELLO didn't know what they were saying. She said the title would be sent out the 31st or the 1st. I then asked her because of the runaround what will be the excuse on the 1st if it's not sent. No reply. Thought she hung up on me then asked her why she couldn't understand that question and please treat me like she would want to be treated. She eased up a little but said she has heard enough.
31st came and went. 1st came and went. On the second she told us to quit calling that she was recording this and we were harassing her. Hmmm, Ms ** if you did what you said we wouldn't be here now. Let me be very clear, this whole ordeal was a nightmare. After hiring a attorney and he calling their Legal Department the title is supposed to be on the way. It's terrible anyone should have to result to this. I have been in total disbelief at their outright arrogance in this whole ordeal and promise you this is the truth.

When you deposit a business cheque into your business account they will put a hold on cheques, although the cheques has cleared and been paid to them from client's bank, just to see if they can cause something that they can charge you for.

I would give this horrific bank a zero rating if possible. They don't deserve even one star. Aside from manipulating debits to gain overdraft fees they closed out account in a heartless and devious manner. We were still struggling after the loss of our company due to the 2008 big bank corruption. When our BOW went $160 overdrawn we called to explain a big deposit was due in a week's time. The conversation was amicable. The deposit was made on a Wednesday. It showed up as being in "processing" and as Available Balance as well on Thursday.
On Friday morning it was gone from all bank history. GONE! We were told that even though we could still sign in and access the account, including the deposit, they had already CLOSED the account. Not one notification, email or message. The bank manager dealt with us in a "couldn't care less", ambivalent manner. We are now waiting for them to refund the deposit to the sender so it can be deposited to another account. In the meantime we have no access to any money to pay our bills, or buy food and gas. These banks are protected in ways that allows them to do whatever they wish with absolutely No Consequences. But I swear to God I will utilize every legal means available to me to make them pay for the way they so heartlessly destroyed our lives again and again... if it's the last thing I do. Bank of the West has been a horrible loan service. We had a boat loan for 10 years and had nothing but problems. Found ourselves late on a payment and informed the first person who called that we would have the payment made on the 5th and asked that the account be noted. They proceeded to call everyday straight for 6 days while claiming that the automated system does not allow for notes to be considered. When we paid off the loan, they sent the title to a home address we left 8 years ago! They were informed of the move when it occurred and they had no problem sending statements to our new home but when it came time to send the title, they didn't know we moved. Such BS.
Now they are blaming the DMV for mailing the document to the wrong home and the DMV can't do anything since the line holder was in charge of the address information. They do not take responsibility for their incorrect actions and were VERY rude when we tried to get them to fix the problem... Do NOT do business with them!

Bank of The West is Horrible. First off this bank does not provide great customer service with any department or branch you come in contact with. I am a business owner and deal with PayPal to pay different merchants to vend at their events. I had two events which I paid through PayPal, one for $500 and one for $1,000 two weeks apart. The event for $500 never happened so I called PayPal to dispute and receive a reimbursement. They notated the account and advised that all I had to do was call my bank and have them contact PayPal to reverse the transaction. I was very specific with Jeremy from the claims department on date I paid, and amount. Two days later I had a reimbursement for $1,000. Bank of The West reversed the wrong PayPal transaction.
Again, I called Bank of The West claims department and advised them of the error. I asked to speak to a supervisor to rectify the situation, he was rude and incredibly unprofessional, however completed the claim. I have not received this reimbursement and have been through two different branch managers, The office of the president, the representative whom opened the account, every supervisor I can speak with and nobody is willing to do anything to get my $500 back. This has been two months and is an ongoing battle of unreturned phone calls and absolutely no answers.
Nobody at this bank seems to know whom should handle it or how. All they have to do is call PayPal just as they did for the $1,000 transaction. There were 14 other vendors at this event and ALL received their refund except me. The only difference with me is I have Bank of The West. See my frustration? My family and business is now out of $500 because this bank does not have their customers interest as a priority nor do they have professionalism. We are closing this account and paying off our car loan with them immediately as I will NEVER again deal with this bank and either should anybody else. In fact, they should be investigated, do not become the next victim!

"Very dissatisfied" is way too high of a Rating for this bank. They don't deserve a single star. This bank should be investigated for all their re-arranging of debit card transactions to acquire more overdraft fees. When I talked with a regional manager, actually 2 different regional managers, I got two different stories from the both of them explaining why transactions were put on a so-called hold status while other transactions made after the one on hold gets processed. Well of course they hold the small amount and process the larger transaction because regional manager says "Well we want to make sure the important ones go through which are the higher amount transactions."
Who gives this bank the authority to determine which transaction is more important. Little did she know the most important transaction at that time was the smallest amount. SO AGAIN WHAT GIVES THESE FINANCIAL COMPANIES THE RIGHT TO MANIPULATE HOW THESE GET PROCESSED? Oh the other manager just denied that they do this. LOL!!!

This situation has happened to me twice. The first time the representative reactivated my account quickly by asking a few questions. Unfortunately, again I forgot my password and my account was disabled.
Long story short: The 2nd representative asked me 7-10 questions to identify me as the primarily card holder. His last question was "When was the last payment made towards this account?" My reply, "I cannot recall the exact date but it was during this month". The representative then said, " at this moment I am unable to assist you with your account since you weren't able to answer all the questions. Please call back at a later time".
I was very upset! I said, "I answered all your questions and because I can't tell you exactly when I made my last payment you cannot reset my account? Let me speak to your manager".
