What is Alliant Credit Union?

Alliant Credit Union was founded in 1935 and has since grown to become one of the largest credit unions in the United States. It’s headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and has more than 700,000 members across the country.

Alliant is known for offering some of the best savings interest rates in the nation. For example, as of this writing, its high-yield savings account boasts a 3.10% annual percentage yield (APY), and its one-year certificate has a 5% APY. These rates are significantly higher than the national average for savings accounts.

Alliant also offers a variety of credit cards with different features and benefits. For example, the Alliant Cashback Visa Signature Card offers up to 2.5% cash back on purchases.

How does Alliant Credit Union work?

Anyone can join Alliant Credit Union by becoming a member of Foster Care to Success, a nonprofit organization that helps young people who have aged out of the foster care system. Alliant will cover the $5 membership fee for you, effectively making membership free.

As a member-owned financial cooperative, Alliant Credit Union is not-for-profit, which means that it is able to offer its members better rates and lower fees than many traditional banks.

In addition to traditional banking services, Alliant Credit Union also offers a range of online and mobile banking services, making it easy for members to manage their finances from anywhere.

Alliant is the hardest company to deal with that I have ever had a bill within my life! 1. I requested a skip payment last month because our business has been so slow! 2. I was told I could not have it because there was a payment due. 3. I paid the payment the next day after our phone conversation. 4. I was told IF I requested within 5 business days prior to the payment I would get help. 5. Today 1/27/25 at 11 am I requested a skip payment…. Again! 6. My payment is not due for 5 business days… I was WITHIN YOUR RULE! 7. I was told NO AGAIN because it was NOT within five business days! 8. IT WAS WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS. 9. It’s not due until Feb 1st and that IS within 5 business days! Monday Morning, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday…= 5 DAYS! It’s due Saturday!

From the beginning of this loan with Alliant it’s been one thing after another and frankly I am sick and tired of your company. I have explained over and over that you are lucky this note is EVEN getting paid! This is my mother’s note, and she has become bedridden since June 2024. Yet in one year and eight months all but one payment has been paid early! She is not able to work anymore, and I am running her business for her to the best of my ability. Our business has taken a huge cut in business because every single road any place near us is under construction. We are talking about 20 to 30 minutes to go 2 miles, then you hit the road… that is even worse! People are not booking with us because of the traffic, and we have lost tons of business, and I needed some HELP!

There is a great chance that my mother will never work another day in her life because of her illness… yet you all keep messing with the ONLY person (me) who gives a crap this is being paid! If you think for one second a person basically dying and in bed gives a crap she owns this RV and payments are being made… you would be mistaken! Last month I requested you allowed a real person make the decision (not your system) to allow a skipped payment because it's been more than struggle that I can prove it and I was told your computer / system makes the skip a payment decision. Talk about a personal touch there!

Your company created a BIG issue with the Power of Attorney I supplied you. We paid $6000 dollars a few years ago to have professional legal estate planning done for us and your company would NOT just accept a legal document that is filed with the state & county. You forced me to go get your stupid one-page Alliant Power of Attorney who I had to pay a notary to come to the house. If we ended up in court… I promise you my Power of Attorney that is legally documented in the state and county would HOLD up vs your one-page notarized piece of paper!

Another HUGE pet peeve with Alliant! I made a payment on the due date and during the day, in fact it was noon! Yet your stupid system would NOT allow me to PUT IN THE DATE I ACTUALLY PAID IT ON! Your customers should be allowed to enter the payment “on the day” they are making the payment and IF your company choses to take 4 to 5 days to process… THAT IS ON YOU AND YOUR PROBLEM. YOU ARE NOT DOING THE JOB! This has happened much more than once and it’s just WRONG! Now I get if I made a payment on Friday at 4 pm that it wouldn’t get posted until Monday BUT this is not what happened! And frankly knowing Alliant you still wouldn’t even post it until Tuesday or Wednesday! It’s more than apparent you need to HIRE more people in the department that post payments or have a class on how to do a better job.

I went round and round with your insurance because this RV has been parked from the day it was delivered because we do not have a vehicle large enough to pull it… That has been nothing but drama. I did finally receive a call from a nice lady with Alliant that put it in storage until June 2025. And one more thing that drives me crazy about Alliant. You make a payment and two to three DAYS later you have someone call me to make a payment! REALLY... how hard is it to LOOK AT YOUR OWN RECORDS BEFORE you call someone and tell them they did not make the payment. That has happened often, do you really have any idea how dumb that makes your company look? If your company keeps making things more difficult in a situation that I am dealing with my mother’s health and trying to run her business and you all not working with me… trust me it will not go well for Alliant!

I sent an overnight check in the amount of $39,744. They outsourced the payoff processing so they claim they cannot even talk with, or email them. They had an employee reach out and ask if she could get payment for the payment in November, two and a half weeks away, when I sent them a check to payoff the entire loan. She said they wanted to be sure to get it because she thinks they lost the check that was signed for and is in their building. I have spent 6 nightmarish days with no one helping. I've never seen a company that is run so badly and uncaring. Not one manager has reached out and I have gotten to the point of needing to email their leadership team with no response at all. I would tell you never, never use this company. $39,744 is a lot of money but not one person has shown any compassion for them losing the check and not processing the payoff.
