I have been a student with the UOP since 2005 and have received a MBA with honors. Then I started my MSN. Due to military assignments, I was unable to complete the degree in the 5 years allotted, by the university. After many appeals and battles, I received an extension. As I was ready to start my first class, my son died unexpectedly. For the first 5 months, I was unable to do anything but grief. But, I realized that I needed to continue with the essential things in my life, including my education, so I can provide for my young daughter. I contacted UOP to ask for an extension, in light of recent events.
They denied my request and stand firm on the unrealistic graduation due date. I was enrolled in their ADA (Disability program) program due to military trauma, PTSD, and have been given the allotments to take extra time for assignments. However, the university and their ADA program representative still insist on the demanded completion date. How can they say that I will be given extra time for assignments but expect me to double and triple up on classes when I clearly struggle with emotional and cognitive stressors. I am simply at a loss that a university that prides itself to be understanding, military friendly and highly supportive can be so cruel and cold.

I was so excited to start classes! I wanted to be a teacher! I was a mother of one and when I talked to the recruiter, she made it sound inexpensive and easy! Classes were easy but it was expensive. The way I was explained about the student loans was inaccurate. I was told that they take out the highest amount, use that and the grants, and then they send back whatever they don't need and I would get the leftover grants. No. I found out later that the money I was getting was not from a grant but from the loan.
I had some complications with my pregnancy in February of 2012 and called the school to let them know I would need to start maternity leave early. They said everything was fine. I was good to go and then two weeks later I received a call asking why I hadn't logged in to any of my classes. When I told my new (I had a few) advisor that my previous advisor had put me on leave for maternity, the advisor informed me I had not been put on leave and would have to pay 1000 dollars to start back to school. I was on bed rest taking a medicine daily to keep me from going into labor. I reported to my advisor before classes started to let them know, and since they didn't put it in correctly, I didn't get to finish my degree and now owe thousands and thousands of dollars to student loans. It isn't right to take advantage of people like this.

This school is a major joke! I read another recent review (Sarah of Macedon, NY on July 13, 2015) and Sarah is completely on target. The majority of these people in the doctoral program have no business in this program. They can barely construct a logical sentence with the correct grammar. Ridiculous. The school is about collecting money particularly from the Veterans Administration. The VA is an easy pocket book for the UoP to pick! The virtual organization they claim students can use for developing health care scenarios is worthless.
Students write ** posts for participation and attendance and pass the course anyway. I have had my work plagiarized and no one does anything about it. This school passes students merely to get paid. I am betting their ABD (All But Dissertation) rate is pretty high. If I had not wasted so much time with this school, I would clearly have dropped out by now. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone unless I knew they were an idiot anyway and would not make it in a real college! Signed - Wasted My Time.

I have been with UoP for a year and have to recommend avoiding this school for several reasons. While the education opportunity is nice and they ARE nationally accredited, all the materials one needs to learn are there, many teachers are underqualified. They do little to nothing to teach and the student has to rely on materials to teach themselves. Secondly, I noticed many of my classmates probably shouldn't have been admitted to college. They could barely spell basic words, couldn't use proper punctuation, and struggled to keep up. Not to insult those students, but them being admitted shows UoP has low standards and is more worried about collecting our money than providing our educations.
Thirdly, financial aid is a nightmare. Several times my aid has been late or wrong due to a blunder on their part despite my habit of having my paperwork done weeks in advance and me checking to make sure everything was done right. I also had $404 of my aid go missing, as in it hadn't paid for a class nor been refunded to me nor was showing in my balance. I had to harass the aid office with emails and calls for a month before it was deposited to me without a word of explanation or apology from them. Worse, speaking to other students, every student seems to have had $100-$500 stolen by them and, sadly, most aren't willing to fight for it like I did. Since then, I watch my aid like a hawk and retotal it myself to make sure everything's where it should be. WE are paying back those loans - that $404 could easily have been $1,000 or more I pay back after interest.
Further, the financial office seems to be clueless as to their jobs. EVERY aid period this year they've quoted what my aid refund would be dramatically wrong. To show them the $404 missing when it happened, which they couldn't seem to grasp, I had to do the aid math myself and email them a copy of my math. Really? Financial aid workers at a college can't do math on their own??? On top of that it's tremendously hard to reach who you need to when you need to. Whether financial aid, your student advisor, or your class advisor, reaching someone is a game of phone tag. Now, when there's a big issue - like aid missing or a problem with a class, that's a big problem. Finally, the website itself has some issues. Many, including myself, experience the website freezing constantly and many links and tools simply not working.
Now top all this off with how expensive UoP is and it's simply not worth it. I've maintained a perfect GPA this year through my own hard work alone and I am currently transferring to SUNY online - much cheaper, better reputation, and has several campuses and online programs. Thus, I truly recommend staying away from UoP. Save your money, avoid the stress, and stay out of the nightmare.

I have been a student at this University for one year. My grades have been excellent up until now. I have contacted one of my teachers constantly about my posting and replying to other students and this teacher always manage to receive a U from this lady, and I am not the only African-American student going through this. I contacted my academic counselor and really have not had any positive feedback. What makes me angry is it was told a teacher can grade you like they want to. This university needs to be under an investigation.

I was recently a U of P (University of Phoenix) student and I withdrawal from there June 20, 2015 because after reading reviews and complaints I've learned that not only are they not nationally accredited, basically if was to get a degree from them my degree would be worthless. But they lied to me from the very beginning and they owe me 1,365. And they said basically since I withdrawal from their school I owe them but at the end of the day it was my Pell grant and student loans that paid for those courses so how would I owe them anything? And the people there are so rude and I am going to sue them. I feel like they are a ponzi scheme. After reading everyone else's reviews I see that I am not the only one who has been wronged by them either.

Back in the early 2000s, I was looking for a school that my employer would pay some of the tuition. The University of Phoenix was listed by my employer, and so I assumed it was a good option. In the early days of online degrees, there wasn't a lot of information about those degrees, and I trusted my employer that they would not steer me to a worthless degree. I graduated with a Masters in Information Systems with a 4.0 GPA.
However, the degree was worthless, and I was even told that it is better to never mention it on my resume! Not even the University of Phoenix would hire me to teach! lol. And that is interesting since I have a degree from University of Wisconsin and 30 years of IT experience in major corporations. Today I am a senior software engineer in mobile apps. It might be ok if I owed the money to UOP, but they quickly force you to take a student loan to cover the costs, so it's not UOP that is owed, but the lending institution. I feel there should be compensation from UOP for their deceptive practices.

My first class I work very hard, I received an A-. Well the next class, by we was learning how the write our essays. To make a long story short, I was accused of plagiarism. Man I cried all night long, because I know I never stole anything from anyone. The sad thing about it, I had day surgery, mother-in-law was brain dead, uncle dying with Cancer and several more things going on. It almost burst my heart. I cited everything, gave every site, including web, author, book etc. I felt in my heart I was done wrong. I kept copies of my report. I was being charged over 10,000.00 dollars for just a few classes. It would be about 30,000 or 40,000 for the simple course I was taking.
Long story short, I do not have a bad driving record, no bad criminal record etc. and these people want me to have a bad school record. Even when I talk I do not steal anyone's words. These people need to be checked out, and the students that was wronged, be cleared. I went to Technical school and never got a plagiarism charge. I am so hurtled, I just turn against going back or trusting any more schools. Hundreds of people know me and knows I won't steal a thing.

I am 3 classes away from my Master's in Psychology. When I first started I was told the program was a good fit for me to start my own office. I later found out the program is not valid for licensing and practice. I was already halfway through my courses. After months trying to talk to a career counselor one called me back and told me to go to a different school to do hypnosis therapy because it was the only way I can work for myself unless I did my PhD. I have already used any money I could get in loans and can't afford and can't take long. I need a job and had all my dreams popped when I found out my degree only helped me get a low pay office job and nothing more. I feel lied to and deceived, and now broke.

This morning at 8 am, I received a phone call from a number I didn't recognize so I didn't answer (which I normally don't answer unknown calls) and they did not leave a voice message. The same number called me 4 times before noon and never left a message, so after the fourth call, I decided to call back and find out who it is. Well it was a someone from University of Phoenix and I told him to take my number off the calling list and that it is harassment. He got an attitude and defensive towards me and said "so are you saying I'm harassing you?" I told him "yes so do not call me again!"
Well, he called two more times after that and when I answered, he just sat there and didn't say anything for about 20 seconds then hung up. So I blocked the number. This is actually the second time, University of Phoenix has called me continuously, to the point of harassment. I'm sure they do the same thing to everyone they call. I would like to know how this business can get away with this and who to file a complaint with that has authority to put a stop to it?

I have attended UOPX since 2010; through it I have received an associate's degree as well as a bachelor's. I have never received anything in that time less than a B (I did have one C but continued through school while still working and having 2 kids). I started my MBA last August and things took a turn in February... I received 2 Ds in a row while still meeting the requirements but the professors were impossible. I have been placed on academic probation and receiving excellent grades. I am almost done with my ECO521 class and have had an A in it. I wrote a paper that meets every guideline required but received a 50%. My learning team is saying the same thing. I feel like they are trying to make us fail out instead of helping us graduate.
That is just a little issue. My bigger concern is that, even though I'm on academic probation and (since I'm only set up for failure) the financial aid office is OVERLY concerned about the seasonal grant I get from being a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. I will be contacting the tribe because I feel like the school is just looking for more free money they don't have to pay back all while ensuring I never receive my degree. I obviously will not graduate from the school and will be liable for the massive loans I have incurred but I do not want to see them get more money for doing nothing to help honest people receive an education.

I never attended this university. Rather, I did it the hard way - a community college and then a state university. However, I know a former instructor there. This individual caught MBA students plagiarizing case studies from the textbook. The admin pressured them to pass the students when they should have been dismissed for academic dishonesty.
Between the false advertising and the lack of academic accountability, it should be obvious to everyone that this is not a reliable institution. For everyone who has been conned into attending, I suggest filing complaints with the attorney general of your home state. For-profit colleges are getting hit hard right now as they are over half of the debt owed on student loans. In addition, please research. A great place to start in GetEducated.com. There are lots of great resources there (as well as ads for schools). As far as the seems too good to be true: Caveat Emptor.

This school comes with a variety of people who have access to your account... Some of these people are knowledgeable and some have no idea what they are talking about. I have had a huge issue with coming into contact with individuals who can only say, "I'm not sure we will get back to you" or "I do not have knowledge in the military accounts." They are not held accountable for giving misinformation and could care less because it's not their future they are messing with. There needs to be more accountability for the advisers and their ignorance of the workings of the company they work for.

So I attended this online college from 2007 - 2009 Feb. 2 classes away from my degree, I was dropped from the program due to attendance issues - "not logging into your account enough times." For these 2 years of what I can hardly call college, I racked up a bill for 24,000.00$ (average debt of a 4-year college student: $26,830). I was dropped from the program and much to say, almost none of the classes I took can be transferred. I continued to pay out of pocket for Colorado State University, but I was unable to continue on my own. I still am at a loss. And it is 2015...I can't even get out of the debt. Can't finish a degree. Can't fix my credit.

I was interested in going to school as a single mother. After several badgering calls the "counselor" subsided my arguments that I could not afford school as well as giving me a guilt trip that I had to start school now or I would go nowhere in life. In 2010 after a meeting with the counselor to discuss credits and how I would get them I agreed to start school. She took me straight into a room with computers and had me start e-signing for a loan. I honestly had no idea how much classes or that the loan would haunt me for the rest of my life. I was working and taking care of 2 kids on my own and coming home to tons of assignments. I was passing all classes but it was hard because I have ADD and I had to read everything over again being tired from work and distracted with my children's needs.
I was only 2 classes away from my associates degree and then I was put in to a pre-algebra class, I can hardly do basic math. I got through part of the class passing but the difficulty of the math increased so quickly I lost ground and failed the class. Next I was told by the financial counselor I would need to pay $1,200 out of pocket for the class within 30 days or I would be able to re-take the class and pass so they didn't send my loan back. I took the class again with no real other option and once again lacking the time and attention for tutoring I failed. Then I was billed several different amounts of money in which none of them would match or be itemized and I was not able to pay upwards of $2,000 out of pocket and sent to collections.
When I got the bill for collections it was $4,700. There was no itemization of any of the claims on how I could owe this amount and was told "she could make one for me" but it still made no sense. Now I owe $24,000 in student loans (federal) and I have 5 children, absolutely no degree and no way to pay this loan which cannot be forgiven.

I started with UOP 2007. I told the counselor I wanted to enroll in the social work classes to help kids in the ER of a hospital. I was told they had the classes I needed and that I would be on my way. I received my general classes math science writing... to get the required credits to move into the social workers' classes... As I was going through my classes I started to fall behind being a mom of a 2 year old, full time job and going to school I asked for help from the instructor. They did not want to help in the classes I was having issues with. I would write messages and they would not write back. I had gone to a school counselor to ask for help. They sent me back to the instructor and said "you need to talk to them", with them still not helping me I got frustrated and took time off.
In my time off from classes I was informed that the social work program I was enrolled in were not "certified" classes which meant I would not get into the career field I wanted to be in without going to another school, so I changed my classes for medical billing. I was told I had to retake all my general classes because I was out of school for too long and my credits were no longer in the system... I had to retake and pay for all general classes again and again having issues in a class the instructor and councilors were helping me. They would not return phone calls or message in the threads... I gave up and dropped out to lose everything I worked for at 42 credits and needing 66. I knew with this school I was not going to get the help I needed.

I am writing to let everyone know not to waste your hard earn money to pursue a degree at UOP. I am angry that I allowed myself to go a scam school. I have a MA in accounting and still can't find a job. I have called the school on several occasional to help find a job, amend resume, sent up a link-in account and I guess they are too busy taking my hard earn money and paying the president more than 1/2 million dollars. Why when you asked for help they never return your calls or emails. You have to resort to be an ass and then someone will help. Someone who's making straight A-B student is complaining. I was interested in what it would take to go back to school and earn a degree. I was sucked in by the staff at University of Phoenix. I did not understand that Financial Aid was something I had to pay back. I stressed my concern that I could not afford school, and they were able to confuse me enough so that I truly thought I was being awarded money to go to school. I graduated in 2005 at the age of 50, with a student loan of well of $30,000. I was able to get a job, but was laid off after 6 years.
Now my college degree is worthless...It seems that I am too old and no one will hire me, although I have an extensive background in my field. I have had to accept a job that pays less than what I was making 30 years ago. I am extremely angry and feel the fool for thinking that I was actually getting money to be able to go to school. When I first began attending University of Phoenix I was under the impression I would receive my Bachelor's Degree in 3 years for the maximum of $50,000. This of course is not the case. I began taking classes in 2009 and ended in 2015. Doing the math you can see that it took me longer than I was told. Talking to my financial advisor as well as the academic advisor did not do much help. Sometimes I was out of classes for weeks because of my financial aid paperwork. I cannot tell you how many times I as removed from a class because of this, which meant it is now taking longer to achieve the degree as well as costing me more money. I have had to pay for a couple of classes out of pocket.
I was told I did not have enough financial aid and in order to take the class I would have to come up with the funds. I am very disappointed in the way the school misguides students and is out to gain on them. I understand the company is a for-profit organization but that does not mean the school has the right to provide students with inaccurate information while charging the student a good amount for tuition.

The instructor which said I didn't pass the class had not graded 4 of my assignments. So now the school is researching this and if the instructor doesn't grade them, I will lose my grants and loans. Beware of **! I chose UoP because the school provided benefits such as discounts to military members, accepted tuition assistance payments, and provided flexibility which no other school did. Everything was nice and smooth until I applied for my graduation. During the application it said that the school is going to reconcile my account and make sure I don't owe anything so I decided to do the same on my end. I went all the way back and found a 95 dollar discrepancy. About a year prior I kept paying the school with my credit card while the military TA payments were going in at the same time. I paid for 4 courses which were 845 each (750 for the class and 95 for book fee) so for classes only it was a total of 3000. At the same time military tuition paid the same amount. Somehow the school ended up refunding me 2905 which I did not catch until after a year from then.
When I looked at the breakdown it was 3 payments of 845 (not sure why they would refund me the book fees) and another payment for 370 which did not make any sense. I went back and forth with my financial advisor (**) and she over 3 weeks to put together a spreadsheet which basically said "hey, our records say we don't owe you anything". How else I can explain to this lady that 750 times 4 does not equal 2905 -- I don't really know. To top it off, the transcripts that were free all of a sudden now cost 7 dollars (no biggie, but I'm not sure why they are no longer free).
Furthermore, if you call customer service the automated machine asks you for your IRN number. When I was a student, I'd be looking at about a 10 second wait. Now that I am not, last time I called I waited for 27. Because of the long wait I had to have the phone on speaker because I was doing something about 20 feet away. When the lady answered, she did the intro and before I made it back to my phone from 20 feet away all I heard was "I'm hanging up". Another call back and another 22 minutes later I finally got to talk to someone. All I'm saying is once you graduate, this school makes it clear that they want NOTHING to do with you and if they owe you money, take a hike. It quite pitiful that they are so business-oriented.

Then they wanted me to take the class again and pay for it out of pocket because financial aid does pay for failed classes!! I realize many people have been treated poorly during their time at UOP. Maybe I just had that rare "good person" during my time. My academic advisor is excellent. He calls me once a week and e-mails me regularly. He's helped me alter my schedule and plan well. He's helped me with time management and has always been welcoming. He's personal. He asks me how my daughter is doing and talks to me about his kids. My financial aid advisor was excellent. She made it possible for me to take time off when I went through chemo. She helped me work the system and made sure I didn't have to take out hardly any loans. I'm 3 years in and I'm only $8000 deep in loans. Had I went to a state school, I'd be seeing that every year. I qualify for scholarships and as long as I keep my grades up, I keep receiving those funds.
The administration part has been great. For those who have problems accessing your transcripts, you can do that online through the school's web portal. For those who have too many loans, you need to watch them like a hawk. Make sure you check your payment area regularly and make sure all of your financial aid adds up to the classes you took. You're an adult. It's not their responsibility to keep track of your finances. Their job is to simply tell you what you need and what you qualify for. Make sure you fill out your fafsa on time every year to qualify for grants. If you do have an excess of funds, send them back to the lender to reduce your loans.
As for the classes, that's a different story. Some classes are great. Others are terrible. You can usually tell in the first week how the class is going to go. Make sure you're open with your academic advisor and let them know that you might need a different class. Half the time, other students don't feel like participating and that makes it hard for you to participate too. If you have a terrible professor, tell your academic advisor and always fill out the end of course survey.
As for finding a job outside of UOP, I don't have much to say. I'm not at that stage yet. But I do know that the classroom portal has resources. Make sure you try to utilize the resources before you completely blow off UOP. Every year they send out an email letting everyone know that they are still accredited. And if you're having difficulty finding a job in your degree field, research internships. Companies are more inclined to hire people who have had experience. Internships give you just that. They may not be paid internships, but we all have to pay our dues before we make the money we are promised.

We were told we would have computer training and 24-hour assistance with any issues that may arise. Well of course that never happened and most of the 7 people had no prior computer experience. It was sad. I was their 24-hour assistance. Misleading and very persuasive in getting us signed up and once questions started we were told our admission rep was promoted and no longer able to help so basically we all signed up for debt with cruel intentions to get her commissions. I guess she got promoted thanks to us.

Please do not go to this school. The degrees from UOP are not recognized by any employer. Even CTU ranks higher than UOP. Go to a school where your degree means something. Be proud of your degree and not be ashamed of it as you would be if you got it from UOP. I have my bachelor's degree from UOP and have started my masters degree at UOP as well but now I'm looking for a reputable school to attend where I can be proud of my degree. I currently have my bachelor's degree hanging in my bathroom.
This school preys on military veterans. How pathetic. Someone mentioned plagiarism, the facilitators that write people up for plagiarism are garbage. I'm almost willing to bet that if management would get off their lazy asses and closely scrutinize their facilitators, I'm almost willing to bet that those same pieces of ** at some point in their tenure in college either plagiarized or cheated on a paper or final exam. It's a shame that a facilitator goes online and buys a paper just to fail his/her students. If you file a complaint because of a wrongdoing against a facilitator nothing will ever become of it because the school wouldn't dare to punish a facilitator but yet condemn a student. Please don't go here. ** UOP.

I have been attending the University of Phoenix for about a year and a half. The first year I began to realize how unprofessional the University of Phoenix financial aid department really was, my eyes began to open. Then I began wondering how many people continue to be blinded, scammed and ripped off by this "University." After being told my financial aid counselor (a racist **), that if "I knew English, I would be able to understand what he was saying." I requested to have a new financial counselor and that was a year ago and he continues to be my financial aid counselor. The financial aid department for the University of Phoenix is the biggest scam ever! They are beyond unprofessional, ignorant and racist as well.
** (My financial aid counselor) continues to disrespect me and my intelligence as a woman. The financial aid department continues to make excuses for my disbursements and they do not want to give me what rightfully belongs to me. I have so many emails between my financial aid counselor and I that is sufficient proof to start a lawsuit against this "university." Just like any other for-profit schools this university is a joke. They never transferred my credits from other schools so I had to start all over wasting money of classes that were so basic. WASTE of my time. I never even spoke to my academic advisor or even gotten emails from him. He didn't even bother to go over my plan to graduate and classes I needed to take. The instructors? Ok I guess. The ones I had were less interactive and just gave me things to do plus posts. Never learned anything.
Financial advisors are horrible and rude. I had issues trying to find my taxes so I can apply for aid. I've never been to a college where I had to find my previous taxes. I've used aid before and the financial centers did their job. At UOP? Forget it. Move on. I would rather go elsewhere and invest my time and money. This university isn't worth it and most people I know who graduated from there never found jobs in their field of study.

I was required to take classes for my teaching certificate. I had very few options, which the Board of Ed had pre-approved. I have experienced 5 courses. The first was silly busy work, but there were a couple of useful things. I loved the instructor. She was fair and thorough. The next class was a complete nightmare. I even went to experts for advice with the assignments. The professor based her grade on APA formatting. 80% of the grade was formatting and 20% was context. It would have been helpful to know that in advance. I dropped that class because even though I was working so hard, I was going to receive the 80% required by the Board of Ed. I enrolled in another course. WHAT A WASTE OF TIME. THE INSTRUCTOR THOUGHT PALM PILOTS WERE STILL BEING USED IN CLASSROOMS. That was 15 years ago.
The next class was another disaster. I am not a stupid person. I graduated with honors but the assessments were so vague that I had no idea what was being asked of me. No way was I getting an 80 in that class no matter how hard I worked. I dropped that one and enrolled in another. AN EVEN BIGGER DISASTER. This was a reading class and the instructor didn't even know digital textbooks existed. She was very disorganized and unclear. Her assignments made no sense. Classmates were constantly posting that they didn't know what she was asking. She made a mistake in the syllabus and penalized students for HER error. I would never recommend this school and never, ever, recommend the instructor or the course. I am done with the University of Phoenix. Friends like Capella.

In 2003 I came to University Of Phoenix in Costa Mesa, CA where I used to live, to acquire some information about the BS degree in Business Management and the student's Recruiter convinced me that with their programs I should be able to obtain a Management position in any industry and they would help to place me with one of the companies UOP have connection affiliating with. Sound good right? I was convinced and so excited so I registered on the same day and I studied really hard where I graduated with honor with a GPA of 3.7 (not too bad right?).
I recalled the student Recruiter also stated to me "with a great reputation UOP have in this job market you will be employable in the Management position in a heartbeat." Nevertheless, after I graduated, they did not even me help with any job placement, let alone help me to obtain employment with one of its affiliates. Here is a big joke that I must share with you all. I even applied for a position as an Admissions Representative that they were listing on Indeed.com, Careerbuilder.com for one their locations in Virginia. Unfortunately, my application was rejected as "non-qualified candidate". Later on that year, I was offered the same position from another similar for Profit College. So here is my thought, if UOP declined its own student/applicant, how can any companies trust the skills and the education we obtained from UOP?
Furthermore, I learned that the Admissions Representative position is nothing but a Sales position and this is how I was lured into UOP's program by a good sales man. I also realized that UOP is a for- profit colleges so they train their sales people to say the right thing and to play sympathy games toward the minority/single parents/young people who do not know the difference between a traditional college as oppose to a for-profit college. The AR duties is to make at least 100 phone calls a day to recruit the prospect students who either put their information online to inquire about the programs or just leads as we called it, from the marketing company that the school purchase for $100/lead, as we were told.
Amazingly but not surprisingly, these for-profit colleges only target the "minority" group, such as me. The AR daily tasks is to call the same prospect at least 3-4X day to convince them to attend their schools and each of the AR's goal is to get at least 5-40 students to enroll in a semester or in quarter program (depending on the school's program). It's about a number game for these colleges, in my case UOP. This is how I learned UOP was using the same sales tactics to sign me into their programs with promises that I will be employed by one of the connections.
In my situation, I feel so embarrassed because there were times when I went for a job interview; the first question that I get was "what prompts you to take classes at UOP?" And the negative comments about UOP certainly have left me feeling so self-conscious that I attended University of Phoenix. Last but not least, to this date, I have an outstanding student loan's debt of $65K due to the misleading information about employment presented to me at the time I was enrolled and with University of Phoenix's poor reputation I have been ashamed to tell people that I went there.
I'm taking my time to write this review, because I do care for people so I hope you will take my advise by go to a real community college to get your general courses/AA degree/Certificates out of the way, and if you plan to attend 4 years college afterward, then have your credit transfer to a real State college or to a State University system. This way you will be receiving quality education and most importantly you will not be left with a high student's loan debt that these for profit colleges charged. Student's loan debt is no joke because the interests add on to the principal is quicker than water drained down your pipe in the rainy day. I write this because I don't want anyone to fall into these for profit colleges.
Trust me on this, I was trained to say the right thing and how to go about to gain the prospect's trust so I can get their business. I hated this sales tactic because to me it is so unethical since they only target the minority/single parents and those who do not speak English well. I've worked in this line of work for a couple of years because I need to take care of my family, but as time went by, my conscience is not complying with who I am, therefore I resigned .
Be aware of these terms and statements Admission Representative/Admissions Advisor/Assistant Director of Admissions" "Thank you for talking to me," "You are making my days," "Thank you for your service," "I want to help you change your life," "I want to help you taking care of your family and be debt free," "With a higher education you will be employed with top 500 fortune companies," "You will be the first one to go to college so make your wife/husband/children proud."
Trust me I've been there so I know how you feel... What they are not telling you is that they are "Sales people" who sell education programs for multi-million dollars corporations. As a result of their sales skills they will leave us with high education debts and possible unemployment. I write this review because I do care and because I'm a victim of University of Phoenix's business schemes.

I enrolled for online classes thru the University of Phoenix in 2010 in hopes of finding a new career. I did graduate with my Assoc. of Science in criminal justice in 2012. Nearing the completion of those courses I started applying for various jobs with no luck. I thought that maybe I needed to further my education so I enrolled in the Bachelors program with the University of Phoenix in hopes that it would better my chances. As I neared the end of THAT degree I continued to apply to various criminal justice jobs in Texas (where I live).
To add to the disappointment of not yet finding I started calling the various offices I had previous applied to. I inquired about what other education and/or experience would be needed for the positions. The ultimate responses were that "the University of Phoenix is NOT an accredited university" therefore NOT acknowledged by the state of Texas. Needless to say I stopped my attendance with the UoP. I am still working a job that pays well below the national level of poverty and am expected to start paying the $700 per month loan payments for the next 10 years. Is there anyone who has experienced this and actually found a way to get any of this money back from this fraudulent degree program?

As a reminder to be qualified for the scholarship or financial aid, you must get your degree before a specific date or you will not be eligible for the scholarship/grant/financial aid and end up with a large bill (the classes are extremely expensive w/material fees). They will find every tiny loophole to get you (even it is not reasonable). Then they try to give you a reasonable explanation on the current so-called "SITUATION" that will cost you (the reasoning behind is to get more $$$ from students). Trust me my class was dropped due to lack of students and started late. I am currently concern about the last 2 courses if I even make it through without additional obstacles. The classes are not extremely difficult (GPA 3.8), it is the staff that is difficult to handle, rude, and not courteous or professional.
Fairness doesn't stand on your side, it is what they consider. The covering advisers is nothing compared to other colleges (So willingly to get you off the phone with an attitude - NO HELP!). When an internal issue arises with their website they advise you to call tech support. After calling tech support they tell you to contact your instructor, then your instructor tells you to follow up with tech support. It continues back and forth. After the past few months checking feedback on this school, I am still a nervous wreck and is too late to withdraw. After the huge loan and credit debt there is no turning back. So they suspended me for 6 months and ever since I started back in September 2014, they are just treating me like a piece of garbage. Also I have been sending out resumes after resumes and I still cannot get a job and this school does not help in any way to get you placed in a job, nor do they care about the people who attend this school. They only want to take people's money. I can tell you I have not learned one thing in any of my classes.
The other thing I would like to talk about is they have a Career Coach section on their website, but it is a joke. So I had a phone appointment this past Monday at 8:00 pm, but it never happened, so I emailed the person, they got back to me until midnight. So I emailed this person back and told them not to contact me again, because apparently they never wanted to help me out in the first place. It could be considered fraud. My many complaints yielded nothing! UOP told me they actually did find me student teaching positions and it is not their fault the schools backed out.
Now, I have a $25,000 student loan that will never be erased and could be taken out of my social security. I am in my 50's so that will hurt a lot. While enrolling, I received countless calls from admissions (or someone) asking if I knew anyone else who wanted to enroll in the program. They sounded more like telemarketers. During my AA degree I had zero issues. Being told money will come in a week is a joke, because it's posted on the website it takes 45 days, and another 10 to mail. You can get it earlier, however not everyone does. It depends on the processing. If you drop out of class you will still owe the money. Period. Also in writing. It does not matter if you or anyone else is dying.
Most of these complaints on here are of people who could not handle staying in for a number of reasons. I am almost finished my BA, and while there are numerous complaints I could state on that program it has more to do with the effort of other students. UOPX is accredited and most employers could care less where you received your degree as long as you and your GPA was great. If you are a mediocre or worse student, you will have a mediocre job or no job at all. You want an education that you have to put the effort into without much help, this is where you go. Most people that could get into other colleges would not come here anyways. I started at University of Maryland and it was too expensive, BA is more expensive here. No winning really.
Financial aid works fine however if you started because you want to pay your rent this month do not bother. You are required to come close to or finish classes to get your money. That's 9 weeks for AA. The main point is if you sign up for school anywhere it does not matter which school, if you say you're going to class and do not officially drop out before it starts you are responsible for paying. Drop date does not exist in this school, you post in the class online, you're stuck paying.
I have two friends who have signed up, one finishes in May without any problems and the other starts next week. If you sign up: show up, do your work, ask questions, make sure you know how to format in APA and write properly. If you need help go online and start looking up grammar rules etc. There is always someone willing to help.

The stress and frustration caused by their lack of professionalism while watching them collect money they were not owed was just too much. Upon attempting to transfer to another university, I found loans had been taken out that I knew nothing about. And after several attempts to obtain transcripts, I was told they never even obtained the information required from California proving that I had graduated from high school so legally I could not use any credits earned but I still had to pay for them.
I am currently trying to complete my Bachelors of Health Care Administration degree program at another University and because of their actions, will not have enough funding. I have had some courses that I really enjoyed and I have learned a lot since being with them but there have been a plenty of times that I felt like the courses that I was taking were irrelevant and the Instructors were NO HELP AT ALL. I truly believe that a lot of my classes didn't have a real Instructor because if I had a problem and reached out to the Instructor, sometimes I would get a response 2-3 days later (which was too late), or no response at all.
The amount of money this is costing me is ridiculous. For the amount of money, you should have access to a UOP Instructor when needed. I stressed out plenty of days and nights because I had deadlines to meet but was not able to speak to someone regarding the lessons or assignments. I felt like I was on my own. Dealing with the University of Phoenix has been the most absurd thing I've dealt with since leaving active duty. The Department of Veterans Affairs does everything they can to help encourage us to get a degree and take advantage of the benefits offered to us via our GI Bills. The University of Phoenix does everything they can to make this process difficult and frustrating, and they will offer no form of assistance or attention to your concerns.
I attempted to sign up for campus courses in my local area and was told to fill out the VA 22-1995 and 22-1990 to switch to the Post 9/11 and change campuses. I did so and submitted the paperwork in February as requested. I also sent scanned copies to 5 other employees of the university who were supposed to be my "advisors". (My so called advisors have changed over 8 times throughout the process, let's not even get started on that). After three weeks I had heard nothing so I reached out to the University who claimed to have not received the paperwork. I submitted it again and was told 10-15 business days before they would send it to the VA.
I was supposed to start a class on March 17th, and as of March 16th my paperwork still has not been processed so I reached out to the VA and asked if there was anything that could be done, and they told me that they could offer me a "line of hardship" that would allow the VA to send me partial benefits ahead of time in order to help me transition, all they needed was verification from the University of Phoenix office that I was indeed scheduled to start a course. I called the University and informed them of this, asking if they could comply with that request and was told that under no circumstance would that be possible. There's just no way they can prove to the VA that I'm enrolled in a course that they actually enrolled me in.
I'm not sure how this financially benefits them, but I'm positive they are gaining something from their inaction. In short, if you've got a GI Bill, do not use it with University of Phoenix, they will single-handedly turn the entire process into a nightmare. There are much better options to further your education, options that are actually respected schools.

So I talked it over with my wife, and because of our situation, I decided that it would be best to take more time off from school and get the money. Needless to say I am still getting the run around with my counselor and University of Phoenix since I have already called CitiBank to no avail, and gotten nowhere with University of Phoenix.
I just want my money, I have been waiting two plus months for it, and no paper checks like they said have shown up at my doorstep. I don't care if the money isn't in their possession (University of Phoenix), they have more than enough money to refund me, and give me MY money back to me, regardless if they transferred the money to two non-existent CitiBank accounts. So I emailed and called my finance counselor and told him I wanted the money. He told me that the money that was there was paid for by two bank cards. The problem is, that the bank accounts to those two MasterCards do not exist anymore. My counselor told me though that if the accounts don't exist anymore then the funds will kick back and University of Phoenix will cut me paper checks.
Well, I received several notifications from my finance counselor over the last two months about the transactions. Apparently the transactions went through, even though the accounts DO NOT EXIST. I even called CitiBank (the bank I used when I paid for the classes that this money is for), and they couldn't help me at all either, since even when I gave them my social security number, they only saw that there are no accounts under my name, and no activity on either of the account numbers that I gave them.

I started this program to better my life while being a single mother. This entire "school" is a joke. I had to stop after a month, and now they are stealing my income taxes to pay off a loan leaving my family and I in a world of hurt. I had to go to an actual college to get any type of real benefit when finding a job. They talk you into joining, link you into a loan that you never see and by then it's too late to realize this school is **. DO NOT be tricked into getting a loan, or into even considering attending this pathetic excuse for a school. I'm about to have my baby, and the money from my income tax was going to sustain my family while I was out of work. Now I have no way to feed my kids or buy the necessities for my new baby. This is a crooked scam that will not benefit you in the end. Run! You are better off getting a certification from a local college at $400 than wasting your time paying back a loan for a degree that employers laugh at.

I was interested in attending a school where I could complete my degree in an online environment. At the time of enrollment the degree I wanted to pursue was Broadcast Journalism. I was told that they had a English program that focused on Journalism and that was equal to a Broadcast Journalism degree. I completed orientation and was forced to enroll in a class that was geared towards educating students on personal finance and how to "smartly" sign up for loans. I told my admissions and financial aid counselors that I was never going to take out a loan and force myself into debt and would be paying out of pocket. Several times I told them this, but was still forced into this class about loans and was almost dropped from the school because I refused to take out a loan and they did not tell me when to pay for my class. Once I again told them I would pay out of pocket I then noticed I was enrolled in the wrong degree program.
When I called my admissions advisor he told me I heard him wrong and that, that was the class we agreed on. I immediately withdrew from this university. They will lie to you non-stop in order for you to enroll and force people into loans so that they can get their money and force you into debt. Do not enroll in this school - it is a fraud and the Dept. of Education should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this and other online vulture universities to exist in this country.

I began my doctorate degree in 2005. That was 10 years ago. This has been the most horrendous experience of my life. I paid over 108,000 for all my classes and still no doctorate degree. I have had committee members quit on me, lie to me, and the University basically extort my money with no return. I was even told by my chair that I was done, the congratulations given, only to have the School of Advanced Studies say that the proper procedures were not followed and I need to resubmit my dissertation. Mind you, I had the dissertation reviewed by three doctored individuals who gave it a strong "pass" only to have the Dean's Office of the SAS rip the whole dissertation apart, asking to redo areas that if removed made the dissertation horrible.
NOW UoP says that I must take another class to complete my dissertation after they had granted me and extension and reneged on allowing me one more review which I would have hopefully passed. This so called "University" must be closed down by the Department of Education, as it is nothing more than a scam. There is nothing positive about this place, as witnessed by NUMEROUS complaints. Why hasn't the US Department of Education withdrawn UoP's ability to issue federal student loans? This place would absolutely fall apart. This is NOT education, but a scam to get people's money and give nothing in return.

Enrolled December, 2009: I enrolled as a Student in the Masters of Psychology program at the University of Phoenix (UOP) in December, 2009. One of the reasons that I chose UOP for my master's degree was because I needed the ability and flexibility to get my degree while working full time in a very responsible manager's position and supporting a family. I selected UOP because UOP advertises that I would have the ability to earn a degree at my own pace, it does not mention within a certain time frame.
When I enrolled, I was never told that if I did not complete the program within five years that I had to start all over again and that the credits earned and money spent would be wasted. Again, I want to point out that I selected UOP because I was told that I could take the classes at my own pace and I needed flexibility due to my heavy workload and financial constraints. This is against UOP's advertisements that a person can get a degree at their own pace and the advertisements should be amended to notify future students that they can get a degree at their own pace but within a certain time frame or lose the credits earned and the tuition paid!! I find myself in a position that makes it impossible to graduate on time, I am a hostage. I have worked very hard to complete each course and I have a 3.5 GPA.
A quote from UOP website regarding On-Line Masters Degree Programs. Please note the following quote which is found on your website, there is no mention of time constraints to obtain this degree: "Don't let a busy schedule stop you from advancing your career. With more than 30 online masters programs, University of Phoenix gives you the flexibility to earn a masters degree on a schedule that's convenient for you. From MBA programs for professionals to masters degrees in education programs for experienced teachers and career changers, we likely have a degree program that's ideal for you and your goals."
Poor Advisement: While I have enjoyed taking the classes and the professors, I want to point out that I have not been satisfied with the advisement that UOP has provided. I have had 7 different academic advisors since I started the program and this does not speak well for UOP. I would also like to point out that when I enrolled in the program in 2009 and up to 2014, none of the advisors mentioned anything about the time constraints on the program, that if the degree was not completed within the time frame, that I would have to forfeit credits previously taken and all the tuition that I had previously spent which amounts to thousands of dollars.
I was shocked in 2014, when an advisor told me that the above forfeiture would happen to me. This is totally outrageous, extremely upsetting and totally unjust. I feel like UOP gave me the old bait and switch tactic (which other students have claimed UOP does) by notifying me in 2014 after I had spent my hard earned money for tuition and numerous hours studying and writing research papers.
Program Revised in the Middle of Earning A Degree?? As per when I enrolled, I have completed 30 credits, and I have to complete only 3 more classes for my degree. However, I am now told that the program has been revised, all of the tuition money that I paid to UOP is lost, and all of my previous work and countless hours of doing research for papers has been wasted because none of these classes can count in the new program. I am told that I now have to take ANOTHER 11 CLASSES in order to earn my degree. That is over $22,000 not including what I have previously spent on my current degree program. I don't understand how this can this be allowed. Shouldn't students who started the program be grandfathered in so that they don't have to start the entire program over again.
I work full time and I am a hard working student and my GPA reflects it, my only downfall is that I cannot afford to take more than 2 classes per year and I feel that I am being discriminated against because of this. If UOP insists that I have to take another 11 classes, I will have to consider other Universities because I can't trust the UOP will not change the 11 classes to another 15 or so since it seems to make up its own rules at the peril of its students.
I plan on filing a complaint with consumer affairs and the Department of Education because I am aware that the UOP settled a fraud complaint for $78.5 million and this is just another way of trying to extort money and scheming to deceive students. I may also have to consider a lawsuit to get back the tuition that UOP took from me without letting me complete my degree as initially enrolled. I also believe that others should be made aware that UOP falsely advertises and others should know that they will waste their time and money if they attend UOP. I will take ownership that I missed the deadline but this was only brought to my attention when it was too late to catch up because again, I can only afford 2 classes each year and at the end of the day making sure I provide for my family first is and has to be my priority.
The reason why I am seeking this degree is to advance my career for my future and I hope that UOP will be a part of my success by allowing me to complete the three classes that I originally signed up for instead of starting over. Please don't hold me hostage any longer.

I got a Bachelor's Degree from UOP. I got my associates from community college and finished off at UOP. My overall debt was about 25,000. Which is what I would have paid at a Cal State University. I finished my Degree and got a Master's from UCLA. How?? I destroyed the GMAT which what everyone has to do anyway... This is an accredited school. It's not Stanford but if you do it right it can pay off. I've seen some pretty ** people come from schools with a really great reputation.
Overall, I recommend you get your first 60 units at community college. Then get a high GPA at UOP for a Bachelors. Destroy the GMAT and get into a really good school for a Masters or a Doctorate. I have friends that used to laugh at me for going to UOP. Now, I make six figures and I'm the one laughing at them. On the other hand, a University is not your mommy... GO AND GET IT DONE! Thanks...

I enrolled in School in September and started my first class in October. I had been out of work since about May and was tired of moving around through low-paying jobs especially with the amount of experience both from prior service 10 yrs and 8 years civilian. I decided to finish my education and go full-time. When I enrolled, I was told that I could apply for financial aid and grants to assist me while I was still looking for employment and thought it was a great idea. I hate to get into even more debt but unfortunately, I just haven't been able to make ends meet. As I began the process, I explained my worries to the counselor assisting me about having defaulted loans and being approved. I was told no worries, they have ways to figure these situations out. The application process was extremely thorough, nothing like I had done before. It connected me to other web links such as IRS to automate my tax info and so on.
About a month later, I receive notice through the letter center that I was selected for verification process. This meant that I needed to provide relatively the same information as I did previously but fill out some additional forms with it. So about two weeks later, I had gone to the IRS to print my previous tax records and submitted all my forms once again. I received a call several weeks later that they never received these forms. So I do it again but this time, they want income verification and child support verification as well. So I submit the forms yet again. Then I receive another call several weeks later that I need to adjust the forms because it did not state exactly who is the payer of child support, even though it states my ex as the payee and my child's name as paid in part to as well as copies of all payment transactions with my name as the payer.
So I happen to find the same forms on the FAW website and adjust them there, so it could be quicker than printing, filling out, and faxing, right? Well then I get a call another week later that I had never made that correction so I go ahead and pull up the website and I'll be damned... Didn't stick. So I call the enrollment counselor and we do it together so she can see that I did it. We check it, call the financial counselor and verify that she see's it. Wait, there's more. I get a call a few days later and she tells me that apparently, if one has already submitted all of the forms via fax, that I am not allowed to use the online program and that I had to resubmit the corrected forms again.
Wait, but there's still more. So now we move on to the situation of the defaulted loans where I am told now for the first time that I need to contact the agencies to which I had originated my loans from previously and request rehabilitation agreements. So ok, I spend a few weeks coordinating with two different loan companies and fill out all these forms for each and send them all proof of income and child support papers and tax forms and obtain references... So here we go, round 50 - "ding ding" - I submit all the forms to the counselor and she says that it all looks good and that she will submit it for approval. I call a week later and she says they hadn't done it yet that she would get on to them and to call back in another week. I call the following week and she says that the forms are not the forms I need, that I need a letter from the loan companies stating that my rehab was approved (NOT THAT IT WAS COMPLETED).
So I spend the next few weeks, going back and forth on a daily basis communicating between several financial counselors and the loan companies and I'm told that there isn't other forms, just those. So she goes ahead and resubmits them again. I call back the following week and by this point, my nerves are absolutely shot! I had spent almost 4 months jumping through every hoop and fiery whole and while stressing about my bills, trying to take care of my kid, borrowing money week to week for rent food and bills.
Then finally some angel in the school elevator heard me complaining and gave the number to their manager.... AFTER ALL THESE MONTHS, I NOW FIND OUT THAT I SHOULDN'T HAVE EVEN DONE ANY OF THOSE THINGS WITHOUT COMPLETING MY REHAB PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS MINIMUM!!! The letter they were looking for was specifically called a "THE CHAPTER 4 LETTER." YOU NEED THAT FIRST AND FOREMOST BEFORE EVEN APPLYING!!!!

It all began in 2006 and I wanted to go back to school. University of Phoenix was where I wanted to go because I heard you could finish school quickly and still work at the same time. This would be the biggest lie and mistake I would end up making. I started school and listened to my Enrollment counselor believing in the words she spoke. As for my academic counselor the knowledge that wrapped around my education was all a mirage that was created. I attended school, yet when I was almost finished with my associate's degree I would have over $15,000.00 in student loans and was completely misinformed of how this happened and what grants, financial aid and anything pertaining to student loans.
I continued to go to UOP to try and finish a degree that even till this day has cost me more than it ever should. I was taken advantage of and believe to this day those who were there to elevate my education with UOP knew exactly what they were doing and didn't care. These employees only cared for a kick back or better known as a bonus/incentive. It is sad to know I am now deep in debit of over $50,000.00 and no degree other than an undergraduate. My question is how do the enrollment counselors, academic and financial advisors all get away with misleading, misguiding and misrepresenting the university? I know that for me I have received no benefit from having an associate degree in business. The university is seen as a disregard and disgrace to many businesses today. I hope that justice will be delivered to myself and others who are currently experiencing what I have been through.

The VA Dept. will not accept my C.O.E. because the address on the top of the page is from the regional office that covers my state. They want me to fill out a bunch of forms then send it to them, so they can send it to my VA regional offices, then fill out more paperwork to get my C.O.E. sent to another regional office, so they can send it to my school.
I have been in school for 2 months now and haven't seen a penny of the money I'm entitled to. I'm looking into switching schools. Luckily, I am still in my very first class. However, I will share my experience with the financial side only for now.. I was enrolled with the guarantee that I'd see some form of money within the first week of starting my class. My fiance, who worked in college recruitment several years ago, told me that didn't sound right. I asked my enrollment advisor again to make sure that I heard him correctly and he assured me that I did. I couldn't afford a decent computer at that time and expressed my reasons for not enrolling at that time. I now realize why I was lied to.
Fast forward 2 months.. I apply for a small student loan to purchase a laptop. The "military financial advisor" better known as Kimberly the former UOP custodian, informed me, after my NUMEROUS calls and emails that were never returned, that my forms was incomplete. A full week had past without her letting me know this. She told me to fill it out again and email it directly to her so she could make sure there were no mistakes before submitting it. I did. And another week passes. I decided to call her back to get a basic timeframe of when funds would be available only to find out that the form was incorrect again! She sent it without checking it and only realized the error when I called her.
Fast forward 2 additional weeks, a financial manager and new "military financial advisor" later, I still had no answers. No money. And NO patience. I finally reached someone in the call center who cleared up the disbursement issue as well as sent in my attendance to the VA that had been in a holding status for 4 weeks. (He didn't even understand why they did this to me). 2 days later, all issues resolved. Now, a month later and still no returned phone calls from financial advisor, academic advisor, and an instructor who could care less about her job, I am leaving this train wreck of a school. My Pell grant disbursement date has now allegedly been changed for a 3rd time!!! They said that I was going to be released on December 13th... Then January 2nd... And I called again and now not until January 15th!!! This is ridiculous!!! I do not know who to go to next!! Anyone know anything?

I received an email from my advisor, Amanda, stating that someone will call on the 29th of December when my funds will be applied to my account. There was a balance of roughly $1300, with that being satisfied with loans/grants that totaled $7,423.00. This was to cover my last two classes @ $1,856.41 each = $3,712.82. After tuition is deducted, there is a remaining amount of $3,710.18. According to information on my student site, I will tentatively receive around $820.00. So what happened to the remaining funds... that I will have to repay to the government? It is obvious that this 'for-profit' organization is keeping student funds. Fraudulent, yes... illegal, yes.
The phone call on the 29th was scheduled to discuss this with Lisa **, because my advisor Amanda **, was never able to adequately answer my questions. Lisa ** is a supervisor and I hoped that she could be of better assistance. Today is January 5, 2015 and I have not received any communication from this university about how funds are applied to my account. Why are they never able to provide answers to legitimate questions? Contact the Office of Inspectors General/Department of Education. You can download the form and mail it to their office. This university needs to be shut down before the end of 2015. I am sure that it will be revealed how this university has kept funds that should have been released to students. And unfortunately, we are stuck with the bill because of this Ponzi scheme. Let's act.

I enrolled with University Of Phoenix and was advised I would have my money within a few weeks of school starting. Needless to say we are going on week 7 and still no money. I have called numerous times and spoke with several different people, my account shows my money was disbursed to the school and everything so I call back and was told they are waiting on my Pell grant. It's on hold, they couldn't tell me a reason. Only thing they said is it's getting fixed one student at a time. Needless to say I need the money so I call several more times complaining about the lies and they offer me a credit balance refund till my other comes in (course I'm still waiting on it). So I call back today and they tell me the processing center is working on it then I receive a call this afternoon telling me my credit balance has been released but it will be 3-5 business days before it reaches my bank (which is direct deposit). So I'm not a very happy person and I'm wondering what in the heck they are doing there with the money because I sure need my part.

I started school around the beginning of November. As of now, late December, they have just processed my financial aid. I've did online school before but UoP is like nothing I have ever seen. My loans have posted to my account but now all of a sudden my pell grant is on hold. After reading most of these reviews, they've figured out some kind of way to hold onto your financial aid. So I called to inquire and the response I got was that there was a glitch in the process and that it could take anywhere between one or two weeks to be resolved. That is such a load of bs. Now my disbursement is on hold because the pell is on hold. If this doesn't get resolved quickly or I have to go through the process of sending in a bunch of paperwork, I will gladly withdraw. There was no problem when I esigned my paperwork online but to request now that they need an actual signature on paper is just plain ridiculous. I will wait to see what happens and keep you guys posted.

I have attended the University of Phoenix for almost a year now. The first disbursement I received was pretty easy. I received the funds about 2 days after my disbursement date. Well now it is time for my second disbursement and my date was supposed to be December 12, 2014! It has been 10 days. I have called the school numerous times and everyone says something different. They all say one thing in common that I have been selected for a manual review. When I call the Department of Education they say that I have not been selected for a manual review but I have to speak to the school because they don't have any information.
I need the money to buy a new laptop to get my work done because mine just stopped working. If I fail this class I am in they will charge me an extra 1200.00 but they will not release my funds. I have spoken to a few supervisors there and my financial aid advisor, no one seems to have the answer on this manual review. I have met all requirements as far as grades, classes and participation goes so this makes no sense to me. I had a friend also attending this school and she left because of financial aid problems. They made her fill out a paper to request her funds and only gave her 300.00 out of the 8,000.00 they received and tried to hold her 2,000.00 that was extra after classes and tuition. I have tried to file a complaint with the DOE but I can not seem to get through to anyone. I am so angry and frustrated with this school. They can take their sweet time releasing our funds but the lien holder will not let us take our time paying them back! This is ridiculous! So I signed up for some classes in August and in October I had to drop out for personal reasons. I was told at that time that I would receive a letter telling me if I owed anything for the classes I took and eventually had to drop out of. While enrolled, I was receiving harassing calls up to 5 times per day from various employees at University of Phoenix. Some calls were to check up on me, others were to ask me questions about my courses. I had requested a 2 week break between classes, and was never allowed the break. Plus I have credits from another school I attended which were supposed to transfer over, but never did.
Now, come December, I get a letter dated 12/8/2014 which clearly states that I owe the school NOTHING. I then start getting calls from a financial adviser, Timothy ** asking me to call him back. This morning I placed a call to them asking what they needed from me. I have already reported the harassing calls and got a letter stating all my funding was returned to the lenders and that I owed nothing. I was then told I owed 882.00 to the school for an over payment of funds. When the gentleman I spoke to in the financial office told me the amount, I said that I have the documents from the Dept of Ed and them stating I owed nothing. He became very agitated and belligerent on the phone and told me to fax the letter in and they would have a manager look it over. He also threatened me with collection action if I did not pay the balance of 882.00. I told him that I would get in touch with Timothy. I was recording the calls and would only wish to have further contact in writing since I saved all letters, e-mails, etc. sent to and from the school. He hung up the phone on me.
So now I am filing a complaint with the Dept of Ed with all the documentation I have and am waiting for a response from Timothy ** in the financial dept at University of Phoenix. I'll update more later.

University of Phoenix gave me the poorest education and I regret that I took their courses. From 2008 through 2010 I took online courses for an Associates degree in Accounting with UOP. The prerequisites that were required were the only classes that I received good quality professor to student help with. Whenever I had trouble with any of these required classes all teachers would always answer my emails, return my phone calls, or text me with some help. I was very satisfied with the attention that I was receiving from them. Then when I began taking all my Accounting courses which were the classes I was majoring in everything changed.
The Accounting professors for whatever reason, were the complete opposite of the prerequisites ones. They never returned a phone call, and emails were answered days late after the assignments which I was having trouble with. They always seemed inconvenience whenever I reached out for their help. I literally barely ever got any help so I was forced to pay tutors to help me. I should have never had to if I had to pay these ridiculous overly priced student loans afterwards. I even purchase Accounting for dummies to help me understand. Was this right when the University of Phoenix professors should have been teaching and helping me?
The worst education I have ever received from any college I have ever attended. The only exception was the prerequisites. Professors they were very helpful and courteous, I hope they transferred to a better college to work at. Until this day I have not been able to land a job as a bookkeeper or any related career using my degree.

When graduated from the next degree program, I attended from that point was my Bachelors in Science in Business Administration w/ a Consideration in finance. So I was told that I would not have any problems with tuition hikes from that point, which was a lie. I now owe them over $40,000 dollars for a degree that has done me no in the work force in the state of Oregon. Now take in mind that I questioned them on their accreditation for the state of Oregon where I am from. The college I knew was out of state and completely 100% online.
For this, I do feel that my educational finances are much more of a burden on me and my family due to a Profit organization that has mislead many students, like myself, to make money from us and leave us with a huge financial problem that I will never be able to pay off before I can even 100 yrs old if I live that long. I went to the University of Phoenix campus for a year after transferring from a traditional school. I started going to online when my kids were too young to leave them. I attended all of the classes and when I had 6 classes left to finish, UoP contacted me and told me my financial aid had run out. In 2009, UoP contacted me and told me that the laws for financial aid had changed and I could complete my degree. However, the degree I was formally enrolled in no longer existed, so therefore, without telling me, they put me into a different major. I was attending these classes now for the second time and paying a lot for them.
In 2010, when I had completed all but 6 courses... UoP dropped me from my classes, told me there was a problem with my financial aid. They said they were sending my money back to the federal government, and they were going to charge me for all the classes and I would be put into collection. Additionally, I was dropped from my classes. As it stands now, I have attended UoP for 5 years total, have taken over 50 units, I have no degree, and am 40K in debt due to their classes. I am in week 5 of my first class and University of Phoenix is not abiding by the dates they told both me and my husband that my refund from my financial aid was to be in our bank account. They said that it would be in the Bank by December 9th or 10th, and it is not there. So we called for the third time this morning and their reasoning was "we can hold it for another week because we can". Those were the exact words that the Financial supervisor said to me. Normally, I would be okay with that, but We are in dire straits right now as I have a payment that is court ordered that I have to pay by next week or I go to jail for failure to comply with a court ordered payment. Now this could mess with my education as I am sure I would be in for a few days. The amount that was granted to me was not just for tuition but also a housing allowance that would help keeping things I need for school paid, like internet or electric.
Now, my husband had read all of these reports about the University and began looking up numbers. We called FASA. The supervisor there gave me the Fed Loan servicing number and the number to report an Institution. Now, I know from calling these people that not many have actually filed an official recorded complaint and have only posted reviews. Just posting reviews will not change what is happening. The only way to do that is to file an official recorded complaint by calling the Washington DC number @ 202-377-3173. If Fed loan servicing is your people that manage your loans give them a call to make sure things are disbursed as the school said or to cancel loans @ 800-699-2908. To double check and make sure who your service provider is for your loans call FASA. If none of these work out report Fraud to the office Kathleen Tighe @ 800-647-8733. This is the only way that we are going to get this school to not screw over students. These are the steps that need to be taken. Good luck to all!!

I don't even know where to start here. From day one, I have been lied to about everything with UOP. Not one single thing that has come out of anyone's mouth has had an ounce of truth in it. I began at UOP in 2012 because I had lost my job and figured that it would be a good time to go back to school. I should have never even considered this school, let alone gone there. I am currently still a student because they refuse to release my information to any of the other schools that I have attempted to enroll in. According to UOP, they cannot "legally" release my information for me or another school until I complete my current program. My graduation has been changed three times because I've been told that "new" classes have been added to my program. On top of all of this, I have also found out that out of the 70 credits that I will have when this is finished, only 2 will actually be able to be applied for the degree that I am going for. A few of the others can be applied as extras.
Disbursement with this school has been a nightmare because I was supposed to get my direct deposit in August and it is now December and I have gotten nothing. I have not been able to get in touch with my financial adviser for eleven months now, but I have talked to others that keep telling me my financial papers are being "processed" and that someone will get back to me when this is finished. My academic adviser never actually answers his phone or returns emails so when I try to contact him, I always end up talking to many other people.
During my last conversation with one of them, I actually hung up because I was fed up with the girl I spoke to calling me ignorant and when she told me that if I was really this stupid, then there was no point to me wasting other people's money to attend college. The only thing I had wanted to know that day was when the issues with the math program were going to be fixed and I have been asking that same question since June.
Tech support has been absolutely no help. After waiting anywhere from ten minutes to three hours, all they tell you to do is contact your instructor and your adviser because they are unable to fix the issue. I chose to go back to school to better my life and get a better job and so far, all this school has done is cause issues. I wish that someone had just grabbed me and shook me and told me that this was by far the worst mistake that I would ever make because that is what this has become. A mistake that I am now stuck with as the debts pile up and nobody can give me any answers about anything.

This is my 2nd run with UoP. After I was so aggressively pursued in 2012, I decided to enroll. I dealt with a plethora of problems with my financial aid that year. I posted numerous complaints, talked to supervisor(s) and they eventually appeased me. However, as I am now only one class away from completing my 2nd degree, they are choosing to manipulate my loans/grants AGAIN. I am not writing this complaint to downgrade this University. After reading the complaints already posted, I have grown tired of repeating other complaints. They withhold funds, manipulate their system to make it 'appear' as if you owe when you don't.
And speaking to a financial aid advisor or supervisor DOES NOT help. They seem to be ill informed or trained to only give basic answers, never providing solid explanations. I absolutely regret attending this university. After I completed my first degree, I would come across more complaints about credits not transferring. I thought that perhaps things would get better after the new president came on board and after they claimed to have received accreditation. After submitting this complaint, I am moving forward with a complaint with the Department of Justice. I admonish others to do the same. One complaint will make a little noise but multiple complaints will cause them to pay attention to what we have experienced.
I have received close to $6,000 in loans/grants but they have only given me credit for 1/3 of that. My account is showing a balance due and it is so hard to get a response from my financial aid advisor. This university needs to be shut down and they seriously need to be audited by an outside party.
Dec. 12, 2014 Update -- I did speak with a rep from UoP's Grievance office. (She said that she was a Financial Aid advisor) For starters, the representative began the conversation by telling me that the notes in the system for my account show that a different rep had spoken with me earlier that day. That is and was a false statement. I kindly asked her to remove that 'note' because I had not spoken with ANYONE from UoP before she called me. I asked why my account showed a zero balance in November but now shows a balance due. She 'never' answered that question during our conversation. She said once I made attendance in my next class, the funds would automatically (her word) load to my account; thus, showing a zero balance thereafter.
I reminded her of the amounts awarded in loans and grants. The awards letter shows the date(s) of disbursement, along with the amount of funds awarded. She only mentioned the smaller amount that I have been awarded. I do not believe that the staff is adequately trained to provide substantial answers. Our conversation lasted 11 minutes and she never provided an answer to my initial question. To me, its basic math, addition and subtraction. If there is no hidden fees, at least it should be basic math.
I am aware that fees are deduction by the government, but UoP should not be deducting fees from money that I will have to repay. Why didn't she answer the question about how the account showing a 0 balance and then a balance due? Why didn't she mention that I received more than the small amount that she mentioned in the conversation? Will I receive the full balance that I have been awarded or will UoP keep (for some unknown reason) what they want to keep? It definitely sounds that way to me. I hope it’s not the case. Tell your family/friends to not attend this university.

I am currently trying to begin at a local community college, but even after earning almost 60 credits with Axia and incurring $25,000 in loan debt, I can expect maybe 6 credits to transfer. In order to get those credits to transfer, I have to get an official transcript from Axia. This is where I believe the real fraud occurs. UoPh/Axia will do everything they can to keep you from attending another university. If you stop attending before completing, they will send back any additional financial aid money, putting the student into a totally new debt with the school itself, in my case over $3000, allowing them to withhold an official transcript and making it nearly impossible to attend any other school. When considering this school for my Bachelors, I felt that the approach of the admission's staff was a little aggressive but I was motivated to complete this goal. The Online division was totally different!!! This is all about the school getting your MONEY! I found the Online atmosphere to be very frustrating and not be conducive to learning! I completed the first class figuring it has to get better than this! The learning teams are hit or miss as far as working with motivated or unmotivated people. The fact that 30% of your grade depends on your learning team performance -YEAH Right! I ended up withdrawing after the second week of the second class.
I spoke with the financial aid staff at which time I was instructed that may receive a refund but to hold on to the refund in case of any remaining balances. I also received this information via email. I was told by the academic advisor not to go back into the class because it could be perceived as attending class after withdrawal. Per my conversation with financial aid I expected to be mailed a bill with any balances - at this point I did not trust anyone in this university system. I was getting almost constant calls or emails to return to school with reduce tuition rates and that it was not too late to return to class to complete the course withdrawn from in the first place! I felt like the academic advisor was not concerned in the least about the lack of any benefit attending courses at this school.
Three weeks ago I received a call from a collections agency informing me that I owe over 3,000 dollars to University of Phoenix. 2 days later I received written notice to check my balance on the website. I was instructed to stay off of in the first place - expecting a bill in the mail. I immediately sent the refund to University of Phoenix totaling over 1,000 dollars. I contacted the financial aid office which could not tell me why they had not received any money from my student loan. This school has aggressively tried to recruit me back to attending even though they have a collection company still hassling me. Keep in mind this is after withdrawing in the beginning of October 2014 - they have not given me enough time to pay this bill off!!

I began attending the University of Phoenix in July of this year (2014). When I started I was told that my financial aid would be applied after my 4th week of my first class. When I called at my 5th week I was told it would not be until my second class was completed that my financial aid folder would even be sent for. After I completed that class they told me it would be 30 days for it all to be processed. After a month I called again and was told that my file was canceled because this was my first this applying for Financial aid. When I reminded them that this was my second year of college they told me that it wasn't canceled but it was a hold because they had to review my loans.
Two weeks later I was told that my financial aid would be applied within a week. I set up direct deposit. I get an email saying that they tried to deposit my excess funds but that my account information was incorrect. Mind you I had just received my paycheck the day prior via direct deposit!! They told me now that it will be another 14 days for them to send a check!
Now, while this is going on my job got more demanding and I needed to go on a leave. I was told to wait because if I did not it would freeze my account and to not do any assignments because once I went on leave I would have to retake the class and do all work over anyway. So I did what they told me. Finally I got tired of waiting for someone to get in touch with me and called them only to be told that it was too late for me to drop the class and that if I failed it I would have to pay to retake it out of pocket!! So now I am trying to redo 6 weeks of assignments in one week before this class ends to avoid paying 1200 in cash. I am so pissed. When I called management they gave me attitudes and would not return my emails. I finally got a half butt reply answering none of my questions. I will definitely be transferring to another university first chance I get!

I enrolled in the University of Phoenix in July 2014. I began my classes on August 19th. When I filled out my financial aid information, I asked to receive both Grants and loans. After I finished my first 6 week class, I realized that I haven't received an award letter so I began calling them every other day. Each time I called, I was given a different response. At first they told me I needed some kind of slip and it would take up to two weeks. Two weeks later I called back and they told me my credits hadn't posted from my last school and to call back in 3-5 days. I did and I still got the run around.
Finally, I decided to stop calling my financial adviser and call my counselor. She looked into the system and told me that I would have to pay out of pocket because I only applied for grants... which was a lie. And even if I had of mistakenly applied for grants only, they should have told me that information before hand so that I could prepare. I was totally in the dark about how much I needed to pay so she gave me the option to go back and take out a loan. Once I did that, they gave me the maximum amount and told me that I would be receiving a refund check. I set it up so that it could be deposited into my bank account but of course the University of Phoenix (and it's poorly ability to process the accurate information) has sent out a paper check. And guess what? Today is November 18th and I still haven't received it. My disbursement letter and the refund amount that was posted on the website account didn't match. I've called so many times and I don't even have the patience to keep trying. This school is a waste of time and a total rip off!

Those graduates do not have any job skills to be successful in my business. Anyone can go to UOP; therefore, my choices would be from the bottom of the barrel, and I do not run my businesses from the bottom of the barrel. I have found that one employee from any other college is worth three from the University of Phoenix. All applicants with credentials from the University of Phoenix are promptly disposed of in the circular file.

I have attended UofP for several years. I successfully completed my Associate's Degree with them and moved on to the Bachelor's program. I am 6 classes away from graduation and I got a call from my financial advisor a week ago, who told me that I will reach my lifetime maximum on my loans and will have exhausted my PELL eligibility before the end of my classes. He then told me that my out of pocket costs would be $2403.75 and that he could set me up on a "payment plan". I have $60,000 of student loan debt invested into my education and he wants to set me up on a payment plan?
First of all, I'm not a rich person. I live paycheck to paycheck. If I were to pay that over a period of 6 months it would be $400 per month and there is no way I can afford that. So, basically, I'm going to be stuck in my job being broke for the rest of forever until I can pay my loans down enough to go back to school. Then, the best part is, they returned my PELL grant to the government and then told me I owe the school $940. Or not. I will NEVER pay that. Pigs will fly first with their own newly sprouted wings. My biggest issue with this is, when I re-enrolled for my Bachelor's program, why didn't my financial advisor discuss this with me? I looked over my own loan and grant paperwork and was under the impression that I would make it to the end of my program just under the lifetime maximum. Apparently, I was interpreting what I was seeing wrong - or someone is scamming me and my money is disappearing. I really don't know what I can do about this. They're not going to help me. I wish I had enough money to hire a lawyer because this is such BS.

I do not have any experience with a campus location, so all of my examples come strictly from the online side of things. First, DO NOT attend this school unless you have no other educational options. I know that when most people finish with their degree and complain, someone will always say "So why did you stay?". The problem is not everyone can attend a legitimate, traditional school. There are many reasons behind this, but in the end, it just isn't an option. University of Phoenix understands this and, in my strongest opinion, takes advantage of this. I am in my fourth class right now and the experience has been the same with all classes thus far. I will try to break it down into sections that I feel everyone should know before making the choice to enroll.
THERE ARE NO E-BOOKS/DIGITAL BOOKS. When I was talking to my enrollment adviser about how I would receive the learning material, he informed me the only option was digital books. Several times during our conversations, he would mention "e-books" or "digital books". While I do prefer a traditional book over an electronic copy, I have become more used to e-books so I didn't have a problem with this. However, University of Phoenix does not supply you with digital books. What you get are password protected PDF files that can only be open with a desktop version of Adobe Reader. I have heard that there is one pdf app for the iPad that allows you to open password protected pdf files, but other than that, your only option to read your "book" is on your computer. To make it worse, none of these files share a consistent format. Some will have chapter links, some can be viewed from a browser (making it possible to view the book from your mobile device) but mostly, your "e-book" is a scanned pdf file. The University of Phoenix has stated they are working on a solution to offer a true digital text book, but this has been a topic of discussion for many years now.
THERE ARE NO PROFESSORS/INSTRUCTORS. They refer to themselves as "Facilitators". They offer no insight or guidance whatsoever. Most have pre-formatted questions or discussions that they randomly post throughout the forums, making the already impersonal environment feel that much more impersonal. In short, expect nothing from them.
TEAM ASSIGNMENTS. I do not think you will run into this during your Associates programs, but every class for your Bachelors will have team assignments. This is by far the worst part of online schooling. The problem is that, so far in all of my classes, no one wants to do any of the work. Perhaps this is just my bad luck, but I always get stuck with the people who will wait until the last couple of hours on the last day of the school week to say "Hey so whats going on with this weeks assignment?" and contribute nothing more than that. Regardless if it is a team effort or one person has to suck it up and do everything alone, you MUST turn in a full assignment and you're grade is determined by the others. If someone says they will take care of this or that and fails to turn that in, you take the hit. Every facilitator will assure you that those who do not contribute will not be graded, but thus far, that hasn't been the case. I have had one assignment where I did the entire 5 weeks by myself and two assignments where it was me and one other student. Even after being very specific about who did not contribute and who failed to follow through with their portion, ALL students within the team passed. These empty threats have made way for most everyone I have come across, and many more to not do any work.
As was my expectations, your online education with University of Phoenix will be mostly self-taught. I have noticed that a lot of the material comes from third-party vendors, such as Lynda.com and SkillSoft. Needless to say, if getting a piece of paper that said "Bachelors Degree" wasn't so important in the real world, you could easily get this education at 5% of the cost on your own. Again, not everyone can attend a traditional university and for some of us, this is our only option. There are many other online schools you can choose from, but honestly I feel like you're trying to choose between the lesser of two evils. So my advise is to take note of what I have mentioned and make sure that you are prepared for it. DO NOT expect to be flooded with knowledge. DO NOT expect helpful instructors. DO NOT BY ANY MEANS expect your credits to transfer. This is the option for those who must have a degree to move forward and cannot rearrange their life to attend a real university.
To be fair, I have met several people who did graduate from University of Phoenix and they were happy with what they accomplished. However, this is a small percentage and even those people wish they could have done things differently to avoid having to enroll in this school. When it comes to my advisers, be it academic or financial, I haven't had any problems with them. That may change later but so far they have been helpful. I phoned my academic adviser and told her that I was debating on changing my program and she changed all of my classes for the next year so I could have time to think about it but still get credits regardless of which program I choose later on. However, if they ask you if you are having any problems or concerns, don't expect much help if you say yes and voice your opinions. I think they just ask that as a courtesy.

I am a current student of the University of Phoenix. As of October of 2014 I voluntarily entered a leave of absence (LOA). I entered this leave of absence for various reasons, mainly because I feel that I was mistreated by the University. Upon my initial absence from the school, I decided to pursue a more traditional brick and mortar college, or enter the State University system to complete my Bachelors degree. After attending the school for over two years I was confident that my credits would have no trouble transferring, especially because they are coming from an accredited private school. I personally visited every private and state college within my area; these include California State Universities: San Bernardino, Fullerton, and Cal Poly. Furthermore, I also visited some private Universities such as The Claremont Colleges, University of La verne and so forth. The answers from all of these schools remain consistent, either their accreditation does not match University of Phoenix, or they simply do not accept out of state credit, especially from a private or online based school.
Even though I attended the University of Phoenix in campus and in California at the Ontario Campus, the credits I received from the University translate as out of state. After each visit I was disappointed to know that my credits that I earned from the University of Phoenix probably wouldn't transfer. Some schools such as Cal Poly and Cal State San Bernardino blatantly quoted me at 7-12 credits were transferable. This fact made me angry as I had spent over two years at the University of Phoenix, and borrowed over 31,000 dollars only to find out I can transfer 7-12 credits out of 69. Most schools labeled me as a freshman, it was a big disappointment. This fact inspired me to question the school, and furthermore why can't my credits transfer? Upon further investigation, I uncovered that the school has some issues with its accreditation. The school has been on probation by the higher learning commission since 2013, and to this day is still on notice to have its accreditation revoked. In my investigation, I could not uncover a solid answer as to why the school, is on notice. So with nowhere to turn and many unanswered questions, I call my UOP counselor.
After bombarding them multiple questions, they began to become defensive. I even asked why the school is having issues with accreditation, they simply responded and said, that it is not an issue, we cannot discuss this matter, and that it has been taken care of. Ever more furious and confused, I decided I needed to return to school, as I was warned I could only be out of school for no more than six months. If I am out of school for more than six months, my loan would go out of deferment and with no job, I would have to pay back my 31,000+ dollars with interest to the federal government.
Armed with this information I planned to pursue to community college in the meantime. I figured I would have no problem transferring into a community college. I was wrong, when I had met with a counselor from Mount San Antonio College, they viewed my UOP transcript with the same toxicity and disgust as any other Colleges I had visited. They also quoted me at around 7 transferable credits, most of which would apply as electives, and I would be on first year freshman status if I did enroll. Words could not explain how frustrated and emotionally distraught I was. With every option within driving distance exhausted, I then called the people who put me in this situation. I explained to my counselor my issues, they then began to explain to me that UOP is not a very transfer friendly school, and that the students who enroll in their programs are expected to see them through. I then asked if they knew any schools that were UOP friendly. They simply responded "no, I'm sorry."
After being so helpful to sign me up in the program and allow me to incur debt, when I had went against the school, they were quick to respond and simply say I'm sorry, as if that helped alleviate my massive student loan debt. There are many other issues that prompted my disgust against the school, things such as repetitive classes, how my grant and loan money is disbursed, furthermore I question why I am incurring interest while I am in school. I can remember at one point, I was extremely motivated and loyal to UOP, I recommended them to all of my friends and family. I even quit my job to pursue and maintain my 3.7 GPA. I never imagined that I would write anything of this caliber against the University.
When I initially enrolled, I was aware that the school was expensive. My enrollment advisor, otherwise known as a salesperson, was quick to sign me up and state that because of my financial situation, after graduating I would only owe around 24-30,000 dollars. This number seemed fair, but somewhat high in comparison to other schools. During these last couple years in the program, I became so naive, the faculty and counselors constantly assure you and make you feel comforted that UOP is the right decision.
Furthermore, it seemed like every other month, I was under the guidance of a new counselor. I was blinded by their kindness, and attitude. It wasn't until that I looked at my student loan amount that I had started to question their motives. Two years into the program, I already owe 31,000+, how about the next two years? I am not willing to spend 65,000+ dollars on a Bachelors Degree that has a questionable accreditation. Furthermore, at one point in my program, I was asked to come out of pocket to pay for classes. I explained to my counselor that I am in a time of financial hardship and somehow the payment was forgotten, and I was allowed to continue studying. If the school wanted me to pay for classes, then what was the point of me borrowing money? It didn't add up, also I received financial aid checks in the mail, these were the amount not used by the university. I did not cash the last check, my counselor stated that this check because I did not cash it, would go back to the lender and apply to my principal.
Today I am offered nowhere to turn, some schools are getting back to me, but they only offer dismal amount of transferable credit. It's the same consistent story, University of Phoenix credits are toxic in the eyes of traditional schools. I now question if I have even learned enough to enter and actually succeed in a traditional school system. I have now come to the realization that I will need to either start over, or start with whatever credit I can transfer. My main issue is my student loan debt already incurred from the University of Phoenix. It's completely illogical, what student starts over with no job, minimal finances, and over 30,000 dollars in student loan debt? I feel as though University of Phoenix robbed me, they were just a money machine that pulled a few tricks, stuck me in a classroom with other working professionals, took a large amount of money from me, including my federal grant money, and left me out in the cold with no options, other than return to UOP. If I were to start over, which I am willing, then that means that my time and money with the University of Phoenix was simply a waste, and I would owe a large sum of money that did not even benefit me.

On 10/22/2014 I initially contacted the University of Phoenix, because they sent me a letter requesting me to send information in regarding my identity, after I was financial cleared and submit my identification documents previously in order to receive my financial aid funds. I received my loans and grants last month and now as of 10/22/2014 they are asking me to submit more identification documents. So, my financial aid has been placed on hold do to a second verification after I've already been financial cleared. I believe this is something on the University because it doesn't have anything to do with the Department of Education. This, is a form of harassment that the University of Phoenix is using to discourage students to stop attending. My funds were certified back on 09/26/2014 and I was awarded my funds and attend and received my passing grades in my classes, I just don't understand how a school representative whom has never worked on any of my stuff before determine anything when it comes to my financial aid and my classes. I've contacted them, several times and have spoken to a Mr. Jonathon **, in which he's claiming to be an academic advisor.
I reached out to him several days to try to resolve this and ask him questions about why I have to go through this process again. I really got frustrated with him and got out of my character because of this situation and the way he harassed me and will not allow me to speak to anyone else but him. He's asking me why am I doing this program, and why am I going to school, why didn't I finish my culinary school, why I didn't finish at a community college NAMED Penn Valley. I don't feel I have to justify myself and be question and when I don't give him the proper answer, he says I am a liar. Asking, me well, why you going online, I stated Because I have kids and this is the best option I have available to me right now, I have a newborn child. I then, stated why do I feel like I am in trouble, you continue to tell me that this school is not a right fit for me? Why, do I feel like you're interrogating me, "well my job is to investigate?" I asked, investigate what? I have been doing my school work, making good grades, he stated "I feel you're just going for financial aid money." He pissed me off, and I hung up. I repeatedly asked to speak to a supervisor.
Again, reached out to the financial aid person, again a person that works hand in hand with Jonathon **. No answer, I have emailed her several times, and keep copies of all my phone calls, and email to both Jonathon **, and Samantha **. I then decided to call my financial aid advisor whom I've been having, which was Kaycee **, and spoke to one of her colleagues, in which he help told me he would look into and open up a work ticket to have the issue resolve with a document I sent in. He called me back and stated Samantha ** emailed him and told him I can only speak with her only and for me to speak with her only and no one else. They put some notation on my student account, because every time I call in, to try to speak to a supervisor, they tell me I can only speak to Samantha ** and Jonathon **. So, called and called, no answer, no returned phone call. When I call them directly, no answer. So I call the 1800-366-9699, I get Jonathon ** but not Samantha **. In which today on 10/30/2014 he took it over top, and really got under my skin, and I had to report this to a supervisor in order to get some type of help and try to get my classes started again.
Waiting on him to get back with me to let me know if they are allowing me to start my classes or not. Regarding Jonathon **, He interrogated me and tried to belittle me and make me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about. He asked me the same questions over and over and stated, "I don't believe this school is right for you?" Whom is Jonathon **, to make a statement like that and determine my education plans? Again, he felt he has the power to tell me he a investigator and why did I go to Penn Valley and not finish. Like I have stated several times, I told him that was when I was younger, 9-10 years ago, don't remember anything about that. He continued to state that wasn't a good enough answer. I am so tired of talking to this guy and dealing with Jonathon **, he stated I am only going to school for Financial Aid money. I asked him, "how can you determine that when I have been attending my classes regular and passing my classes with Bs." I don't feel he should have the power to remove students from their classes and talk to people the way he does, it is not his job to determine, whom is a good fit to go to the University after they have took four classes with the University and passed all four of them.
I am fed up with speaking to this guy and requested to speak to a supervisor in which he stated there's no need for that, and wouldn't give me his supervisor name after I have asked several times. All I asked for is to start my next class so I can finish my degree and get my education, regardless if I finish it at the University of Phoenix or not, that is my choice not his. I don't feel comfortable about my personally information being sent over to Mr Jonathon **, I don't like his character and my personal information, social security number, date of birth, taxes, identification, kids social security number, all that was sent over to him for verification. Thank You In Advance for Your Time.

This administration makes it difficult for students to continue their education without having out of pocket funds despite of obtaining full financial aid. After 6 months they will ask for more money. They will also make it difficult for a student to obtain the so called Scholarship by keeping you from going back to school questioning everything you have on your Financial application. This school is awful, they worry more about money than education.

Updated on 06/27/2015: I got my Bachelors of Science from UoP in September 2013, and believed that this was a step toward a new career in the field, but that was just a joke on me I guess. I have been informed that a UoP degree is not even considered a real degree at all by most employers, and that the EXTREME student loan debt that I have incurred was a complete waste of money. First off, the IT field is ridiculously hard to break into at all, as are most fields today in this wreck we call America. Secondly, I am not 100% sure that I truly learned anything of value from my time at UoP. As there were almost zero programming courses, aside from Java 1, and Java 2, and no math whatsoever. I feel like I got scammed, and want some form of reimbursement for the money, and the time I spent on this school, or I want a JOB!!
Original Review: I completed my Associate's degree in 2000 for Computer Science from Tidewater Community College, and then went to work for the state for the next decade, and a half before being let go after being caught up in some massive downsizing of people to cover severe budget problems the state was having in 2007-2008. This was a terrible time to be out of work, and jobs were near impossible to find anywhere. I lost my home that I was buying, my jeep that I was still making payments on, and ended up destroying my credit rating with credit cards just trying to survive a 2 year long, fruitless job hunt.
I wore out my unemployment trying to keep my home, but could not get back to work because it seemed that America was in a second great depression, and people with a Ph.D. could not even get a job flipping burgers here. So, I decided to go back to school, and complete my degree, but could not find a Computer Science program to enroll in, so I chose IT instead. BIG MISTAKE, as I ended up going back to take online courses from University of Phoenix/Axia, where I spent 2 years working HARD, and keeping a 3.8 GPA, only to graduate, and realize that I had learned next to NOTHING, and was no better off than when I started. Also, I was now saddled with a MASSIVE $55000 student loan debt on top of still being unemployed.
I am now trying to get my numerous certifications that were suggested to me after completing an IT degree, but they are NOT cheap either, and I am not truly confident that I am learning anything useful from them as well... So, my final decision is to try and teach myself as there is NO WAY I can afford to go back and get a real degree from a real college now with the debt that UoP has left me with.
I can try to get some real workable knowledge of Web design by taking courses offered online, but like everything else in America now, they are also Expensive, and offer no guarantees. Still, I HAVE to do something in order to try and get my life back, and pay off these outrageous student loans I have. My friend told me that a college degree is practically useless nowadays, and I sadly have to agree with him on that. It seems to be just a way to accumulate more debt, which may or may not be representative of UoP, but I thought I would add my 2 cents on this subject as well!!

I decided to enroll in Phoenix University because of the new certification program that they have. I am very disappointed with the customer service that my financial advisor displayed. The advisors seem inexperienced, and unprofessional. There was an error on the school's part with my billing, and when I called to question it, my financial advisor gave me the wrong information and was very rude. The lack of customer service is very frustrating. The financial advisor called me a week later, and told me that I had a balance on my bill and that I had to pay it within a week or he would send my bill to collections and it will be on my credit report. I tried to negotiate a payment plan but he told me that I had to pay fifty percent of the bill upfront. I contacted his supervisor, who left me a message stating that there was nothing that he could do and that the information that the financial advisor provided me was correct. I would not recommend this school to anyone. The staffs are unprofessional and the school is a rip-off. Their only concern here is getting paid.

I completed my AA in Computer Programming with University of Phoenix in May of 2014. I cannot say that I did not learn a thing or two while attending the school but I feel as though I am missing something from my education. The day I received my degree I was excited at first but then I was left with an empty feeling. I was not satisfied with my achievement nor was I proud. Now I am stuck with a relatively useless yet expensive degree that I am paying for dearly. Now I am going back to school starting pretty much from the bottom to actually receive my Bachelors in Computer Science from my local University.
Please take my word for it and think twice before committing to UoP. When I was looking into the many online options, I contacted University of Phoenix mainly for additional information only to receive a phone call around 8 in the morning with a representative practically already setting up an interview/meeting with an academic advisor which I reluctantly agreed to attend only to find myself meeting with the so called "advisor" at my local campus branch who was throwing many papers and documents in my face which I admit, I signed the papers and it was my fault but I wish I was as wise as I am now because the whole process of signing up was too easy and simple because the next thing I knew I was enrolled in their first introductory course.
If it's one thing I have learned is don't let fancy commercials that brag about how great their institutions are get the better of you. Standard brick and mortar colleges have been around much longer than these online schools and therefore they are much more reliable. P.S. Any school that offers a "free trial" is bogus and should be avoided, if only University of Phoenix had offered that crap when I enrolled maybe I would not be in this position...

The representative that I talked to said I would be able to do my full degree with their school (minus my student teaching hours of course). After about a year and a half, they call me to say I have gone as far as I could with my degree, so from here I will have to do the remainder of my degree with a different school. They were very good at reeling me in and making my student loan so large but when it came to delivering on their end of the deal... all of a sudden they couldn't do what they promised and yet I'm stuck with a huge student loan with no degree.

Based on the experience, I registered for another class and the instructor was terrible. I was having problems with one of the partner websites and told the instructor about it and the instructor took off points (a lot of points) for not submitting the assignment. I reached out to the instructor for assistance but he did not give me an answer.
I was having so many issues with the instructor, I reached out to my enrollment representative and she help me not only withdraw from the class, but refunded me most of my tuition. I can't say it was a bad experience, but unless you have many hours in the day to study on your own, don't enroll in their classes. You're better off going to a traditional school that has the class you want that fits into your schedule.

I came across University of Phoenix during a hunt for the best online college for what I was looking to do: Web Design. In the beginning, everything was great. They worked with me to help make the transfer quick and easy and my recruiter was super nice.
Looking back now, I realize that they were perhaps too nice and helpful. There were some things about the process that just didn't add up in my mind. For instance, they seemed very interested in the fact that my mother made a decent paycheck (I had to file as a dependent as I wasn't working at the time) and asked me to send in my parents' tax return for my financial aid so that they could get an idea of how much I would receive. It wasn't until I wanted to change my major that I realized why they were interested in the first place. I put in all the necessary paperwork to change my major, resubmitted the documents for my financial aid and was told that there should be no problem at all. Oh really now?
What should have been only a 2-week wait turned into a month and I didn't hear a word from anyone. Concerned, I called the office and tried to speak with someone to find out what was going on, sent emails, everything that I could think to do, all to no avail. I became extremely frustrated and made the decision that I was going to transfer to another college that was close to me in my new state and attend there.
Eventually I was contacted by another advisor who informed me that the paperwork I had submitted had not come in and I would need to resubmit them. I did so not thinking about it, even though it struck me as odd that the faxes hadn't gone through when I had confirmation that they indeed had. Another month passed, and I FINALLY reached someone at the financial aid office at University of Phoenix and spoke to who had to be the most sarcastic woman I have ever spoken to in my life. I explained to her what was going on as well as told her that I was more than unhappy with how this process had been handled.
I was told that there were "discrepancies" on my transcript and that there was no way I could transfer to another program unless I redid a program that was already completed. Not only that, but the paperwork had expired and I was required to send everything in AGAIN. Finally, I was so frustrated that I told the woman that I would not be attending the school anymore and that I would be transferring. Bad mistake.
The woman scoffed and said that since they had to pay out of pocket for a mistake that they made on my classes and financial aid, I would be required to pay them $938.17 before they would release my official transcript and told me to look for a college that would take an unofficial copy in a very degrading tone. I immediately said absolutely not because that was an error on their part and therefore was not my fault. We went back and forth for some time before I had to hang up the phone before I said something that I would regret.
A long story short, I am now at a loss as to what I need to do. I'm unsure if I need to find legal help, file a suit against them, I just don't know. I feel like I've been scammed out of my education and that I am being blamed for something that just wasn't my fault. If there is one thing that I am at fault for it's for being naive and choosing a "college" that has the lowest graduation rate. To say that I am beyond upset with University of Phoenix would be a severe understatement. If there is anyone out there that can help me and guide me in the right direction of what I need to do, I will take all the help that I can get.

I have read quite a number of unhappy posts about the University of Phoenix. My review is not going to be a glowing review of my experience, but it’s not going to bash the school either.
I attended the University of Phoenix off and on from May 2006 to April 2010. I decided to attend UoP because my active duty Air Force officer nephew (I’m a 10 year USAF veteran) was attending UoP and earning his MISM degree. The Air Force has some stringent requirements when it comes to educational institutions and program. Well, at least they did when I was in the Air Force. Since he was attending and it’s on the USAF’s approved list of educational institutions, it must be a decent school. I decided to enroll into the Master of Information Systems (MIS) degree program. I had earned my BS in Applied Science (Maj. Business Management, Minor: Aerospace Systems) at a “true” university in Texas and am very proud of the education I received there. So much so, that my degree is framed and hanging on my wall and my class ring is on my right hand as I type this. Guess where the UoP degree is? Yep, it’s sitting in a drawer in my closet.
I had a total of ten instructors. Most of them were good. There were a few instructors that really did know their stuff in their area of expertise. My instructors for the Systems Analysis and Development, Project Management, Database Concepts, Networking and Risk Management were really good. These folks worked day-to-day in their field and teaching was their part-time gig. I don’t know if this is normal for Phoenix instructors, but those instructors where the ones I got for my classes. Did I luck out? I don’t know. Some other instructors, like my C++ instructor, left a lot to be desired. I struggled through the class.
The individual assignments and group projects weren’t overly easy, but they weren’t difficult either. That may have to do with my interest in computers and information systems where I read a lot of articles that interest me in this area. At this point, I want to say, that I don’t and have never worked in the IS field. It’s more of a personal interest than a career. I pursued this more as a personal goal instead of a professional goal. Granted, I will say that by having done this, it did help some in the job I had at the time. Since I had a “Master’s degree”, they did bump me from the “Engineer” to “Senior Engineer” pay grade. My job duties had nothing to do with Information Systems. My career is working in Systems Engineering in the aerospace industry.
If I had it to do all over again, would I attend UoP? I probably would not. I have never had any director, manager or supervisor look down on me because I attended UoP, but I think if I had attended Emery-Riddle Aeronautical University, I think I my degree would be more respected and more in-line with my career. An ERU aerospace degree is more respected.
My advice to anyone reading this, do your research. Attend a well-respected university. The money you spend at UoP compared to another school may be the same or even less in some cases. If you’re a veteran, such as myself, use your money wisely and use your GI Bill benefit in the time allotted. Overall, yes, I am disappointed that I spent all this time and it doesn’t carry much weight. The IS program is NOT accredited through the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). So in that regard, UoP’s Information Systems programs are worthless!

When I was unemployed, I could not find a job I believe now due to my age. I contacted UOP since I did not have a car & could do the classes online. When I was told the cost & I could take out loans for the tuition, I was undecided mostly due to the fact my credit rating was bad because of a job loss. I told the "admission advisor" that I would call her back with my answer. I was called everyday for three weeks with a very high pressure sales pitch telling me that I did not need a good credit rating for loans. After an hour on the phone, I finally relented & figured I would give it a try.
After classes had started, I lost my availability for Microsoft Word & was not able to do any assignments. I was called constantly by an "advisor" who told me to get to a library to do my assignment. I kept telling them I had no car or any way to use public transportation. I was told I would be "thrown out" of school if I could not complete the assignments. I was indeed "thrown out" of the school but not before I got a bill from them for $1,200 for what they say my loans would not cover. I could not pay this since I was still out of work with no income. Now I am on the hook for $7,500 worth of federal student loans & this other phantom bill from UOP for $1,200. I get calls everyday from a bill collector not for the federal loans but for UOP's money. I am now in the process of declaring bankruptcy & put UOP at the top of my list. Please do not attend a "for profit" school like UOP. Their drop out rate is 88%. They should be ashamed of their high pressure sales & lack of real instructors.

I started this school in June or July of 2014. First off they never put me in an Orientation class so I didn't get to start on the date I should have. Then after I started my class after Orientation which was my Foundations class the working in teams was horrible. Most of the time my teammates would never answer me or wouldn't get back to me so I ended up doing all the work for all the assignments. Then the Instructor keep changing the assignments in the middle of that week which was completely different from the syllabus. Then the Instructor would post a thread at the very end of the week for us to post our assignment to about one hour before the end of that week. With that she would give the team a 0% for not turning in our assignment in the right place when we posted the assignment in our team chat because there was no thread to post to.
On top of all that my academic advisor called and I voiced my concerns to her and she said she couldn't help me with any of it until the Instructor posted our final grades for that class. She stayed on the phone arguing with me (which was over my Bluetooth in my car) and my Mother was with me and she said something in the background about how stupid this lady was and my advisor said she couldn't talk because she heard someone else. Also, with all this she also told me that she thinks this school is not right for me because I don't agree with everything she was telling me. So I started looking for other schools and found one where I could get my Masters in Education in the same time it would have taken me to get my BA in Education with UOP.
This is a horrible school to attend. When I did the whole withdrawal from the school they decided for 1 month (1 class) and 1 week (start of 2nd class) that the Pell Grant I was entitled to was going to be just enough to cover it. I got the full grant and even the 1/4 of that should have been more than enough to cover all of it. I should have gotten most of it back. But they keep the whole 1/4 of the grant. They rip people off if they don't like the school and the person wants to change schools. I recommend not going to school at UOP!!! If you are looking for help with anything to deal with going to school they are there to get the money, but once they have it they are not there to help you anymore!!!

When it came time for me to do my student teaching UoP took three months to place me with the help of the on ground UoP in my area. After a week, the school pulled out with no explanation and would not return phone calls. I was then placed on academic probation when this was NOT my fault. UoP wanted me to complete a supplemental standards program which was attending Saturday workshops for teachers, ran by the on ground school for a few months. After completing the standards program, I would no longer attend the online school. I had to miss one workshop because I did not have a sitter. The on ground administration wanted me to set up a face to face meeting because of this with two employees. I texted and emailed back and forth between two ladies for a time, date, and place to meet.
The last email I got from them was extremely insulting and degrading as they expressed my lack of integrity and intelligence for not including a time, date, and place in a SINGLE email. Yes, sounds unbelievable until you have been associated with UoP staff. Today I received a message stating that I may be suspended from the school because I did not complete the supplemental standards program. I am not sure how this affects me but I have not been associated with that school for over a year and it was nice not having to communicate with them. I am now left with a huge debt and an incomplete degree. From what a few administrators have told me, a degree in education from UoP is virtually useless anyway. Also, an advisor at a state school where I live, told me two days ago that she sees a lot of students of education from UoP but none that have made it as far as me. Maybe they have never had to place anyone for student teaching before???

I have been attending UOP for the last four years, 8 more classes and I will have my Bachelor's degree. I can never get through to my financial aid and academic advisors, they don't return calls and when I call some other person answers. Yesterday I call to speak to my tribal liaison for my tribe. The girl who took my call told me she could not put me through since I did not know the person's name, so I asked to talk to someone who knew about the withdrawal process, so I could talk to them about the remainder of my student loan. She stated that students are not allowed to talk to people in that department. She would not tell me what department. Very rude.
I also was charged double for my microeconomics book and my macroeconomics book which happened to be the same book for two different classes. My financial aid advisor told me to printer both books and send them to him so he could look at them, but until then he couldn't refund me the money for one of the books. I am still after him to do this process for me. After my passed away in 2012 from cancer, my grades drop and I had to get a student loan. While talking to this rude girl, she stated that my 12,500 loan only paid for 6 classes and that I am short. It was suppose to cover 8 classes.

When I first started attending the University of Phoenix I had a 3.8 GPA. Then as I continued it dropped to a 3.6. As I have finally been about to graduate I got to one class Nursing 598 and had to retake the class 3 times (paying for it twice out of my pocket!) Perhaps I should say that my job has paid for me to attend the college and I took out student loans that for some reason totaled about $20,000 when I only received $7,000 of the money because I told them to send the rest back when my job picked up the payments. I walked across the stage on 7/19/2014. But I had to retake my last class which was nursing 590B. Well, first I was told that I had to take the class by 8/12/2012. It took them three weeks to give me a decision on my appeal, and then I had to resend my letter of appeal, and then wait 48 hours on a decision.
I was told by my academic adviser that I could take the class, but the instructor that had been looking at my work did not think that I could pass the class. This conversation was between the two of them, and it was by inter-office e-mail. Well, I enrolled in class anyway, when this instructor wanted the class to basically reinvent the wheel. I asked to be dropped because I felt that I was being set up for failure, and this and I had to get this class passed because I had time constraints with my job as well. Since all of this I put in an appeal to just retake the class that I needed and be done. The appeal was denied, and I never received the denial in any written form. I also received a e-mail from my academic adviser (by accident) that read "Thanks Amanda. This one won't go away..." Since I have attend the UOP I have been yelled at when calling instructors, and I have been talked to in very degrading manners. I just want my degree for my job and to be done with this school!

Due to my Status, I would be able to take the PTCE, job placement, and I would be able to transfer my credits to a school with a PharmD program.
I was deceived in this matter, only to accrue an estimate of $86,000 worth of tuition after what is said and done including 6% interest, without a job for a while in this field, a worthless 6-year education just to be a pharmacy technician. Along with that, I am 33 years old and unable to buy house due to this debt nor will I ever be able to obtain a career as a pharmacist as I have dreamed to be without financial help. This was my goal for my family and me to better our future.
Per the State Board of Pharmacy, the degree I obtained through this school to become a pharmacy Technician was incorrect. I had to go back to school in 2011 to 2014 to finally become a CPHT. But now I am in debt, I am not a pharmacist, I can't buy a house due to False hopes by Axia College. This school should be shut down for destroying people's life like mine and destroying my life and future, as well as my children's future and investments.

They are not applying financial aid correctly. Normally, any time there is a shortfall in your financial aid, the financial advisers call multiple times in the day, send emails to get in contact with you to collect the payment for the shortfall. However, with my last financial advisor he only told me of one shortfall and that the rest of my financial aid would cover the rest of my classes. Now, I somehow have a balance that I owe to the school. I contact my now new financial advisor, and she states that I had used my lifetime of subsidized and unsubsidized loans up which is not correct. There is a $57K limit between the 2 types of loans and I am not near the lifetime amount. I also noticed there were many mistakes in the financial aid reporting and that they did not apply my full amount for my Pell Grants to my account.
Now, the school turned my amount owed over to a collection agency. When I spoke to my advisor about this she said there was nothing she could do on her end unless I would make a payment in which I could make to the school. I am not sure how to handle this and if there is a way I can have them pay for the errors they are making?! This is very frustrating as an independent student who pays bills every day and has to come up with random money that I opposedly owe?? Please help with any suggestions! Thanks!!

I made up all but 9 of the units needed for my degree. After the death of a family member and a friend and two job changes, I went back to sign up for a Dantes exam to complete the 9 elective units I was short for my degree. I was told that since I had been out of school for more than three years, I would have to return to school for 10 months! Their reasoning was that what I had learned previously was no longer valid. How can this be possible?? Are they saying that information "expires" after a certain amount of time?? I've never heard of this happening with "legitimate" colleges and universities. I owe $40,000 in student loans and still have to pay it back degree or not. I just want to make up my nine elective units, get my degree and call it a day. It does not take a rocket scientist to go to school here. You do not have to know how to spell or write because they will pass you right along. It was very easy to keep A's in every class as long as you turn things in. It does not have to be complete, spelled right, or even make sense-- they will pass you. You pay for it in the long run never being able to find a job because they did not teach you how to spell or make sense of what you were writing. I wrote many papers with the same information over and over and still passed with high grades. It was 65,000.00 dollars down the drain.

I received my associate degree from this university last year, and had never had a school experience like this. I work between 4 to 8 hours a day five days a week getting my material done for my class. This school prepared me to handle my school loans, my personal budget, taught me how to set goals and apply them, helped me to determine my dreams and aspirations, and have truly allowed me to work at my own pace while doing it. I would and have recommended this school to countless people. My best friend just graduated from this school a few weeks ago with her BA. It all really depends on your attitude and the accountability you're willing to take as a student. It is up to you to put the effort forth and make the time, not the school! I am currently enrolled at UOP. After being out of school for 30 years, and being disabled, I decided I wanted to return to school to better myself. I thought long and hard about what school I was going to attend. After seeing the ads I decided to call UOP. Of course they told me EVERYTHING I wanted to hear. So of course I went for it. Being out of school for so long it took me a week or so to completely understand what I was doing. Finally I mastered it and from there I jumped in with both feet. Determined I was going to do my best and eventually become the person I always wanted to be. Until..........
First, I never liked this Team Assignment thing. To me it's stupid. I didn't join school to get a grade that I had to rely on other people for. Grade me on MY grade, not anyone else's. In the 5 classes I've taken so far, only one was tolerable. With every single other one there has been at least one, and sometimes more, students that make it their goal to suck off of other people. And of course in my current class I have 2 of these kinds of students.
My biggest mistake was to even open my mouth. I privately wrote my Instructor and expressed my disbelief, and anger at the fact that she allowed 2 people to jump into an already established Team. There had only been 3 of us, out of 5, that started from day one and were in the process of completing the assignment. After 3 weeks of working closely with the other 2 Team Mates, and working quite nicely, we were told that just because these 2 stragglers weren't active ANYWHERE in class that we HAD to take them in. We had to stop everything we were doing and delegate parts of assignment to them.
I was outraged! Are you kidding me? These 2 people who have never even posted but maybe one post in the entire class, can come wandering in and jump in our Team and we have to take them in? The three of us that have been working since day 1 together talked about it. None of us wanted to take them in, but when it was asked, the Instructor said it wasn't fair. We HAD to give them a chance! Again I emailed my Instructor privately, and once again I got the blow off. I wrote her a 2 page email about how I felt, and how unfair this was. All I got was a one line email saying, "I understand and I will look into it." Of course she didn't. And I'm still stuck with these 2 slackers!
This current class that I'm in is English. I'm in no way a genius, but not stupid either. My GPA right now is a 3.8 and I am trying my hardest to keep it this way. Of course until this class. One of our assignments were to write a "Case Study Analysis. " This is a paper I have NEVER done before. And all that they gave us to research about it was so little I don't even know why they bothered. So I took it upon myself to Google everything I could on it. After many hours I decided I got somewhat of a grasp on it. I sat up all night and wrote my paper and submitted it. I never thought I was going to walk away with an A+, but something reasonable. Since it being the first time ever that I had to write such a paper, I just assumed that the Instructor would take that into consideration with me and everyone in class. There were other's that didn't really understand either.
I got my grade today and gasped! She failed me! I got a 8.75 out of a possible 15. And I know in my heart that she gave me such a bad grade because I complained about the slacking Team Members! I believe in my heart and soul if I had just shut up and didn't say a word I probably would have received at least a C. But this is PERSONAL! Because I dared to complained she slammed me!
The only reason I can think of that she allowed these 2 slackers to come back in is because of money. Figure that these teachers get paid per student in their class, and she was in no way going to miss out on money. So she took these two losers back. Out of 5 classes I've already taken, I feel there has only been one teacher that really cared. He made sure to listen and he took the time to help when you had a problem. He made it a point to "teach." He was great! But every one after him has been a farce! They show in so many ways that they really don't care what you do. And watch out if you have a question. You won't get your answer, instead they will answer your question with another question. Or tell you to Google it. Ultimately making you even more confused!
I'm not happy with this school and I'm really considering leaving. There has to be another online school that cares about their students. And not about the almighty dollar. I know I could take this to my adviser, but why? Will it even matter? Probably not. They won't do a thing. And what about this current class? Should I even bother to finish it? This Instructor has it out for me and will probably fail me. And why, because I opened my mouth!? Aren't we the ones paying them? Shouldn't they be "pretending" to care? I just don't get it!
I have to really think about this. I only have 2 more weeks with this class until it's over, but if she fails me I'm out! I will transfer immediately. This is wrong! This is uncalled for, and most certainly UNFAIR! So for anyone out there looking for an online school, in my opinion keep looking. Don't go to University Of Phoenix! They will tell you everything you want to hear, make everything perfect for your Student Loans, and then once you're in they will dump you on your butt! You will be left to struggle with uncaring teachers. Teachers that really don't care if you pass or not. They only want the money you bring in.
DON'T GO TO UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX! THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AND FIND A REAL SCHOOL! THIS SCHOOL IS NOT ONE OF THEM!

Fresh out of high school, I attended Worcester State University and ended up leaving after one semester because of how bad it was. I decided to try my luck with UoP because I didn't honestly think it could be any worse than a school where professors fell asleep in class or spent half the class out in the hall on their cell phone. Well, I was certainly wrong about that.
After a year of slogging through the pointless general education requirements that had no relevance or usefulness to the program I was there for, I finally got to start my IT classes. The first one could hardly be classified as an IT class, as the entire 9 weeks was spent talking about business strategies. One of my next two was nothing more than a glorified Photoshop class that existed only to suck up another $1,250. The instructor was an idiot who graded assignments incorrectly and the syllabus was vague and I was often graded on phantom criteria.
But even after that, I told myself I would stick it out. However the next two classes proved to somehow be worse than IT235. A website design class where half the assignments were pointless essays that taught us nothing. For example, one was about copyright infringement. The other class was Java programming where students were expected to teach themselves. That's right, in exchange for $1,250, you get a few Adobe reader files. Had I known I would just be getting a textbook hurled at me, and nothing else, I would have just ordered the damn thing off Amazon. There were no other materials to teach students and the instructor was totally useless.
After that, I felt as though I had to cut my losses and try to transfer my credits. However I have the feeling I won't even be able to do that. I feel as though I've been scammed, and probably have. But I can only blame myself. There were warning signs early on I should have paid more attention to. For starters, they didn't check to see if I had graduated high school, only that I could pay for the classes. Secondly, A LOT of my fellow classmates early on were teen moms who couldn't spell. Lastly, the instructors cared more about format and word count than the actual content of what you were saying. You could literally copy paste an entire section of a website off Google (and many did) and not get punished for it. Oh, but if you were 30 words short or had too much space between your lines on the title page, your grade plummets. Against my better judgment, I continued on for another year and now find myself $15k+ in debt without learning anything. What stings more than anything is that they're getting away with this. I went to UOP and graduated from a BS in Management. It took me a long time to earn my degree and honestly UOP was a very easy way to get it. However, when I decided to seek employment through a different employer, UOP did not verify my degree! They stated that I was short by 3.5 credits, could not verify my degree. However, when I asked them if I could test out of the final credit (Dante Exam) they told me that my classes were no longer a part of the "current program" and therefore I have to retake 45 credits!! This was so upsetting and it made me look like I lied on my job application and to make matters worse, I had to turn down the offer because a degree was required. Please do not attend this "School" because all they care about is making money and ripping people off. I plan to pursue this legally even if it does not get me anywhere. At least I am not going down without a fight! Oh and one more thing to consider if you are looking to go UOP, they say that other universities honor their credits... Not true!!

First, the school never told me I had to have an SAT score. I was never asked if I ever had taken one either. Yes, I did take out those loans but I was told I would not have to pay anything as long as I kept above a C in my GPA, which I did do. I was lied to many times by different employees at the UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX ABOUT THE BILLS I RECEIVED, and they told me to ignore them. I trusted your school to be honest with me because I never thought that a college would lie to a very vulnerable prospective student. I was told to ignore the mail I was receiving from the loan companies because they are (just in case) loans. I do not believe I was informed correctly. I trusted your college to be honest with me, and I will do my best to let other prospective students know not to trust this college. I am going to seek a lawyer even though I did agree I would pay for my classes if I did not keep above a C in my GPA. Your employees deceived me, and now I will never be able to purchase the family home because of the very credit you have left me with.
I never thought this was a scam, nor did I think that a college would lie to people just to get them to join their college. I told your employees over and over again, I would never be able to pay for these classes, and over and over again I was told, "do not worry you are doing fine, just continue to keep your grades up, and you will not pay anything". I cried many nights because I thought in some of those classes there is no way I will be able to do this (keep my grades above a C) but I did. I was very proud of myself for staying up late many nights then getting up early to go into work. I told everyone how well I was doing and I even told many other college students where I work, that they should transfer because of what I was promised (if you keep your grades up above a C in your GPA) you will never have to pay a penny. I feel so stupid now because I trusted the college.
Thanks for nothing, University of Phoenix. Not only have you broken my heart, made me look stupid because I trusted you people, but now my credit is so bad. I will never have a home of my own. So, where am I going to get $48 grand. I cannot even get $4.08. I want to warn everyone and anyone who is thinking about going to this school. I never really learned anything, and when I tried to get help by some of the (instructors) they told me look in your syllabus. The woman that was supposed to teach us, did not feel she needed to teach us like a normal teacher would. She told us hire a tutor, or look in your notes and do it yourself.

I have been to 2 different colleges before I decided to try University of Phoenix... This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a school. I had my transcripts sent and they set me up for a class before my transcripts were even matriculated only to find out that they would only accept 34 of my 107 credits! Had I known this before I wouldn't have even bothered wasting my time! They made it sound like majority of my classes would be transferred only to bend me over financially. Then they made it even more difficult to withdraw by not making notes in the system and taking forever to be able to get a hold of someone. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone.

When I first enrolled in UoP I explained that the laptop I had did not meet their requirements for taking classes. The enrollment advisor told me that I would receive the refund after 5 weeks of the schooling, which happens to be the length of one course. At the end of the fourth week I called to see about what day I should be expecting that refund and at that time I was told that the 5 weeks does not start until after the first 3 weeks of class, which is considered a probationary period. Okay, so I figured I had about 3 weeks to go until I received that money. Wrong! So at the end of what was my 7th week I called once again to find out when I could be expecting those funds to arrive, you guessed it, I was told that the time frame I was given was for me to be "certified" and that can take up to 8 weeks from after the initial 3 week probationary period. And once I am "certified" then it takes 14 days for the funds to be released.
I called and complained, respectfully, and they replaced the Academic advisor, enrollment advisor, and financial advisors I initially had with different people. So when I called to find out what was going on with my financial aid reimbursement I had to explain the whole situation all over again, with still no resolution. I was told that my new financial advisor would call me but she had not emailed me or called either one. It's funny, when they were trying to get me signed up they would call at least 4 times a week, now nothing. So I started school around May 10th and the best answer I could ever get from them of when I would get my funds "released" (their words, not mine) was "sometime between the beginning of August and the end of August". Almost 4 months to get something I would of received after the first 2 weeks at a REAL school.
The whole program is designed to keep you locked in to Phoenix so you can't jump out and transfer to another school. The credits are over $400 compared to any decent Community College (whose credits are more likely to be accepted somewhere else) that run about $100 give or take $25 bucks. The bottom line is Phoenix holds your money in an account and earns interest on YOUR money while you pay the interest on the student loans. Imagine if they do this to 50k people, which is a lowball number on how many people are attending and using Financial aid, that is 50k people who are owed at least $1000. You do the math..... That is a lot of money for them to collect the interest on for 4 months. And the kicker is that if I try to transfer to a real school I will never receive those funds and my aid to go to the next school will be delayed because I will have to wait for them to figure out why LAST year’s aid was sent back.
DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL unless you have absolutely no other options. A degree from the University of Phoenix is almost worse than nothing at all. It is the butt of every online degree joke out there. Watch the internship with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. That says it all.

I apologize in advance for this long post, but please stick with me especially if you know a way to help or advise for me to handle this. It all began 8 years ago when I went to U of P local campus to get some information. Never would I have thought I would let someone sucker me into signing up for something so quickly. Sadly, they slipped under my B.S. radar. I was currently working in EMS and explained to the recruiter my desire to obtain my Bachelor's in Nursing. I could have easily went to a local university for this but was not thrilled with the long waiting list to be accepted into the program.
This is what lead me to looking into their program. I gave them copies of all my current certifications. They had me sit down at their computers to fill out a new FAFSA. At the time I was a single mother, and had no fear of being accepted for my PELL grant. Of course, it was accepted. I asked all kinds of questions including where they hosted clinical rotations. All my questions were answered and sounded to be a great program. They informed me that I would have to initially sign up under Health Admin. Management until there was an opening for the BSN program. I agreed to this as they said it was the normal process.
Fast forward a little over a year. I was in my one day a week class. Halfway through class, I was called out by one of the advisers and informed, "I am so sorry, but we told you wrong information. You can not do our BSN program because you have to already have an RN license to be considered. Sorry for the inconvenience!" I was really angry about this but thought well, it is fine. At least I have most of my core done & can transfer somewhere else. Upon starting the next class, I had no choice but to drop. This is when I found out how much debt I had accrued that I had no idea I even had!
They called me to tell me in order to take the math class, I would have to pay an additional $400 because all my Financial aid & student loan money had been used. I asked about what they meant by student loans because financial aid had always been more than enough to cover my school expenses. They then informed me that once the financial aid was used, they automatically reverted to student loans. I had not agreed to this nor would I have agreed even if I had known that I would be in debt with loans! All I got was an apology.
Now I have managed to get 2 of the 4 loans paid and I am at a point that I am no longer in default so that I can finally finish what I started years ago. My question in general, is there anything I can do about them lying to me to get me in debt for something they could not even allow me to take in the first place? I still am in debt for well over $10k for a degree they lied to me about being able to do in the first place.

You will not get them. I wasted all my time and got into $88,000 of student loan debt for believing their lies and deception.
Now, here I sit almost 10 years after graduating with a massive debt and no job. All I want are the student loans they took out without my knowledge refunded to the federal government so I can attend a real school where I can earn real internships and get a decent job. This school will lie to you and deceive you just to make a buck. DO NOT ATTEND!!!

So in May of 2014, I was in my last class - a 200 level class, that I had missed as a elective. In week 3, I had an issue and told my teacher a simulation was wrong and provided information as to why. My teacher's answer was "I'll pass on your feedback." Rather than attack her, call her stupid, or anything of the sort, I politely went into my team group to post that I was dropping the class due to fact our teacher wasn't good at her job and it frustrated the ** out of me. I was charged with interrupting a classroom (clearly, online cannot be interrupted, just irritated, but never mind that fact), and received an academic charges letter from Douglas ** who I then called a ** that should hire teachers who can do their jobs and don't ignore their students. I was then charged for that, and expelled.
During this time of being ignorantly harassed for stating a teacher was showing extremely poor performance, I Had dropped and restarted that class, and finished it June 17. I was not charged until roughly that week. I am done with all necessary credits, though my account is on hold. Now they refuse to release my transcripts or diploma. This after I paid almost 40,000$ to them in 2.5 years, asking for no loans, only grants, paying the rest in cash. I shouldn't have to pay for a teacher who is unable to do her job. I'm highly angry and intend to dispute each and every charge in breach of credit card law as I paid, and successfully completed that degree. Regardless of their policy, I didn't pay for teachers who were at best, lackluster.

Due to my limitations at the moment, online schooling is the only avenue I have to work on my degree. After doing an online search, I chose Phoenix based on the testimonials. I started classes, and it wasn't even close to what I expected for educational requirements. One, there is little interaction with the instructors. Two, there was actually little taught pertaining to my goals.
The first term, I expected to be put in secondary classes as a probationary to get me familiar with the processes needed. Bad thing is that I passed with minimal of study and just doing their 3 time weekly posts per class. I never even cracked open the study material to do the assignments, it was that simple. The next term actually had one of the items I needed for my degree. I never even cracked open a book again as even though I barely knew the material, the assignments were easy enough to not need it.
I'm in the process of going to another online school right now, one that has been a challenge right out of the gate and has a lot of teacher/student participation to the point where the teacher even took the time to learn the students' histories. Phoenix is still processing my loan to be sent back to the lender so it can be re-issued to the new school. I have the feeling they are going to delay it as long as they can as we didn't part on good terms.

The questions did not reflect the content of the book I paid UOPX for. When I mentioned this to my instructor, I was told to find other sources. This is the standard answer by the faculty. I have been told many times to "find other sources".
Google is the answer to all your questions. When I ask the instructor for help, they reply with Google search results that I found on my own. The way I see it, I'm paying for the material and the classroom. I should not need to use free third party sources. My math class cost me over $1200.00 and I was told "to find other sources". Anyone can write a post in the classroom. It does not need to make sense. I was in a class with a student that put words together to make sentences that had no meaning at all. It was like he used a word generator to fill up the word count to get credit.
The quality of the school is like that of Walmart but you pay Lexus prices. If anyone is thinking of UOPX, I strongly advise you to check the reviews of students that have experienced it. Anyone can get a degree but it won't mean much to the real world. Every employer knows these things about UOPX and will not give a UOPX graduate the time of day.

I just wanted to respond to all the people on here complaining about owing the University because of unfinished classes or schedules. FYI - When financial aid is disbursed, it usually covers "x" amount of classes, no school get all of your financial aid upfront. Disbursements cover semester, so, if you do not complete at least 60% of those scheduled classes, the school will return the funds to the lender and you are responsible for the classes that you have already taken. It sucks but if you know this info, then you would know when and when not to withdraw from a school or a class. Also Financial Aid does NOT pay for failed classes, so if you flunk a class, the funds are returned to the lender and you now owe for that class.

They said I had to retake the class out of pocket $800 in order for me to enroll in the upcoming session. I said I don't have that out of pocket at the moment. So they kept harassing me with calls and emails to pay the $800 and begin class. I finally called and told them I won't be attending the upcoming session. The rep said to accept this disclosure statement over the phone, as part of my contract - that I'm withdrawing and I'm responsible for any outstanding monies.. I was a little confused when she said "withdrawing" how could I withdraw from something I'm not enrolled in.
Well about a month later, I got a letter stating I owe the school $2000. I called several times, emails,..could never get my rep, or an email response. When I did finally get him, he said they sent the remaining of my loan to my loan distributor and I'm responsible for this amount. As far as I know, my federal loans covered my entire year, so I do not understand how I could owe this money... The amount was sent off to collections and is currently negative on my credit reports. I would like to attend another college and transfer my credits but I'm sure they will not give me my transcripts unless I pay this 2000, which if I did pay them because I really want my transcript. The credits won't even transfer based on what I've read. So I'm stuck with about 20,000 in student loans for the year I attended.... I don't owe this school a dime, if anything,...they owe me!

I have attended University of Phoenix for nearly two years now. I have an A average that I worked very hard to keep. I have read several other complaints about the school and most sound frivolous. The school's curriculum is really well designed and the classes are normally very manageable. Occasionally there is an instructor who is a pompous ** but you are going to have that anywhere you go... get used to it. If I had one thing to complain about regarding this school it is the learning teams. Learning teams can be as much as 30% of a student's grade and that does not settle well with me. Learning team assignments are difficult because you nearly always have a group of incompetent people who do substandard work. Or worse you have a group of incompetent people producing substandard work who refuse to get along.
If I looked at their GPA I would bet most of them are barely passing. This upsets me and the school's administration has done nothing to address the difficulties associated with the learning team model. Group projects are fine to do when you are face to face with other students in a classroom, but requiring people to collaborate on-line without any oversight is a bad plan. I graduate in less than a year and I will not miss this school at all because of learning teams. It took me too long to change schools so I am stuck, but you do not have to be. Do yourself a favor and find an on-line school that will not put you through the learning team stress.

I recently attended the UOPX and was selected for review by the financial aid department. Well, upon filling out the papers for review, I accidentally selected a wrong answer and when it was brought to my attention I was told that I was not able to correct it. The only thing I could do was get a certified CPA to comply with my issue or amend my tax return (which there was no reason to do so). Well, I found a certified CPA that looked over my taxes and determined my filing status to be correct; the only problem is that I file my taxes myself through Turbo Tax and the CPA that I spoke with sent the university a letter stating that my information was correct but since he was not allowed by Turbo Tax to send it on company letter head, the UOPX denied it. The only idea I could come up with was to transfer schools.
Well now, I am transferred to another school and I currently owe the UOPX nothing. The only problem is that I can't get my full financial aid benefits because the disbursement period with the UOPX is not up until next month. If they will end the disbursement period early considering they have rightfully received all of my funds and will not be penalized for it (per the department of federal financial aid), then I would be able to continue my education with the current school without owing them anything or any interruptions.
For so many people to trust this school and attend this school, I find that the UOPX is not helpful at all to students in need. I have been through so much with this school in a short period of time and all I have heard is guidelines this and guidelines that, without any of the advisers putting forth an effort to actually submit something and pretend to help. What I can't understand is how other schools' guidelines are designed for room to help the students and theirs are not, considering they are one of the largest and most recommended online schools around.

I am writing today, because I would like to prevent any other nursing student that has dreams and goals of finishing a masters degree in nursing. SO PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU ENROLL IN THIS COLLEGE!
I was progressing well in the master's program in nursing, and I seemed to love the program. I had all A's and only ONE B, and I was really learning a great deal in these classes. When I reached the last class (NUR590-B), I was very excited to be at the very end of what should have been the most exciting time of my life. I was told by the other students that they were so glad I was in their class, and that they learned so much from me due to my experience. I put very long hours in this last class, as I had with all my classes. I got my grade back from the professor, and I found out that I missed graduating due to ONE POINT. I have to tell you that I have done PLENTY of research on this school, and I have learned that the graduation rate for graduate degrees is only 5 percent! I am not understanding this at all, when this school states on all the infomercials that this school is perfect for the working adult.
I also taught nursing in the clinical setting for a local tech college, and I would never fail a student by one point. I was even asked to join the honor's society for this nursing program! I was later told that many students have the same problem of not graduating from this college, and putting hours of HARD work into their degree. I was also told by the instructors that they were in the process of re-vamping this last requirement, but that this would not be offered to me.
I just want to get my money back. I was in no way impressed by this college. I missed so much of my life doing these assignments, and did not even get to finish. I have read that this college is being sued, and I need a good lawyer so that I can use the money I wasted on basically a "trash school", with the LOWEST graduation rates. Thanks for your help, and any help to me will be appreciated!

When I was looking around at schools I was lied to about the RN to BSN program. I was told by the school that all classes were 5 weeks long when in fact there are 7 week long classes. I inquired about if there were clinical hours required and I was told "no there are no clinical hours required" and that "the program is 100% online." The man I spoke with went on to say that "there is nothing clinically that we would be teaching you that you don't already know or wouldn't get from your current job." It was a lie because not only is clinical hours required in 3 of the classes, but I cannot fulfil them in my current job. I questioned my current professor through the school forum about being told there was no clinicals and a fellow student responded they were told the same thing.

I've been taking classes with UOP since 1991. All of my earlier class were butt in seat, 4 hours at time. The online thing is new to me, and I'm trying to adjust. Speaking to online attendance, it's simple - post to the DQ's, and make 2 significant/substantial posts three times a week. That's it. If you can't do that then you shouldn't even be enrolled in collegiate program.

I am a combat vet. I enrolled with University of Phoenix about a month ago. Hoping to capitalize on my benefits earned. The post 9-11 will help me concentrate my time on my degree. I just recently learned that even though UoP says I am a full time student and do assignments leading right up to the next class, that's how they have it set up. The VA standards are way different. The VA considers that last week a break; therefore, I will not receive my full B.A.H and be prorated every time. As of right now that's $400.00 shy of what it is supposed to be.
I contacted UoP, the enrollment advisor and finance advisor to see how is it then that I continue to work through that last week and it still be considered a break and how they can fix this problem. All of their responses have been the same, "Double up on your classes if you want your full B.A.H". Why did they not tell me this instead of "Oh yeah if you go full time, you get you full B.A.H"? What is so hard about the school crediting you for the hard work you do that last week to the VA? The school gets paid their tuition money. Moral of the story, Complacency kills, in this case makes you broke. If you're reading this and have not signed up yet, Buyer beware!

Stop wasting your precious time with nonsense complaints about how upset you are because you failed or did not receive a certain grade. If you put the work in then the grade will reflect that. I have grades that I do not like but I do not blame the professor for my work. I blame myself for not putting that "A" effort. The school gives you the expectations in the first class UNIV 101. That is when you should have decided whether this is the time or the school for you.

We are currently still waiting on a check that they still say we probably won't get. DO NOT attend this school. They take your money and don't think twice about it. But when it's time to owe them they not going to wait on you to pay back. This week is his last week for the semester. This school needs to be under investigations.

First and foremost, my GPA was tarnished by a 'professor' who openly admitted to grading two weeks’ worth of assignments wrong and assured me he would fix it. He never did. My grade in that class was an entire letter grade lower than it should have been. I complained about this to my academic advisor and was told they would file a complaint. Nothing ever happened with it even with print-screens of the conversation between the 'professor' and I.
Also, I failed two classes. Thanks to my academic advisor. We are told that if we “have any issues attending classes to notify our academic advisors for help.” I did this because my grandmother died two weeks into two of my classes and I was getting too far behind. I was told “well, you need to catch up.” I was under the impression that I would be dropped from them until the next cycle (which I told her), but I wasn't even given that option. Instead I failed them both miserably and had to pay more money to retake them later. Secondly, I am now required to pay $25,000+ for an Associates Degree that is absolutely worthless. I learned more using Google for IT/Web Design before enrolling in school, than I learned in any of those classes. This school is an absolute joke and I won't even get into how they screw over our Veterans!!

I have been attending U of P since the end of 2008. I have my AA, BA and have one more class for my MA. A stipulation for attending your MA is to maintain a 3.0. I had some issues back in Sept that lowered my GPA to 2.86. My probation stated I had 4 classes to bring up my GPA or I would be disqualified. Since then, I have moved to another city and started a new job. Needless to say, I have been really busy trying to play catch up and get to the 3.0.
So, today, I have 2 wks left in my class and 1 more 6 wk class left to graduate and I am told that not only will I NOT make the 3.0 but I will have to serve a 6 month sit out and then come back, RETAKE 2 of the classes I have passed (never got less than a C) and then I could take the final class. Retake classes that I have already paid for AND PASSED?!!! Not only that, but pay for these 2 classes out of pocket. What a friggin scam!
Now, days before my disbursement, they said I will have to not only pay for the class I am currently taking (and completing) out of pocket because I am going (in the near future) on a disqualification. So the school sends back the financial aid to lender (for the class I am currently in) and then in turn charges me for the class that was taken and completed. Ugh x 100000000. Such crap! I worked hard to get where I am, and for me to be at the end of a Masters with only 6 wks left.. is just inexcusable. For those who say that U of P is a scam, I say that yes, they appear to be but my $90,000 debt sure doesn't feel fake.

My financial aid consular told me to apply for parent plus loan and hoped that it get denied (which it did) and the loan was for 9000 enough to pay for all the retakes and some extra in case I happened to fail anymore classes. Well I did my first set of retakes and now they said that I cannot enroll until I pay back a balance of 1,066, which doesn't sounds right because I should have enough money to pay for all the retakes. It appears this school is inaccurately reporting attendance to the VA for students using the Montgomery GI Bill. I couldn't understand why they would do this, what their motives were, but it actually makes sense. By showing breaks in classes when there in fact were none, this practice reserves funds on the back end for use later, when they inform the students who either finish their program or are close to it. When they inform them that need additional classes because the program had changed, they know the funds are available. Those funds are available to pay the school when those funds should have paid out to the veteran during their classes. That takes money directly from the veterans and into their pockets, and for what? It sounds like if you're lucky enough to receive the degree you worked for, it simply won't be taken seriously by prospective employers.
I have read too many complaints from people who received a degree in something other than what they were pursuing. I cannot understand why there is no investigation into what is obviously a trend with this school. One statement I read said, "I was going to be the first in my family to finish college". This made me angry, as this is also a true statement for me. I am one year into a 36-month Environmental Science program that will supposedly give me a bachelor's degree. I am afraid they will add classes on the back end because of a change made to the program that warrants it. Why the VA isn't looking out for their veterans makes no sense to me. The low graduation rates makes it obvious the school does not care about people succeeding but only about profits. I am not even sure I can quit, if I were to withdraw from the program, will the VA seek repayment since I didn't finish?

Hello, as a human resources director of a large corporation, I never hire anyone with a degree from the University of Phoenix. Anyone with a job application with the University of Phoenix listed as an institution from which they have a degree, their application is immediately shredded. Anyone can get a degree from UoP without learning anything. People who cannot get a degree from any other institution end up at the University of Phoenix, and according to the Department of Education, only 15% of those people graduate. There are many better real colleges with professors, with a campus that has world-class online classes and degrees like Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado or Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona, just to name a couple. To enrol at UoP will be a big mistake for anyone.

I am only writing this in hopes that I reach just one person. I am currently enrolled at the UoP (my major is Organizational Security). I attend classes regularly and I turn in assignments. I have had SEVERAL conflicts with instructors, mainly because of how unprofessional they are in class. I will start by listing each of the issues:
I have only read one paragraph of one textbook in the last 18 months. I write all of my papers off the top of my head the day they are due. I can honestly say I have never ripped anything off, bought a paper, or had another student do work for me. The curriculum is vague and not helpful. When I have to add references, which are rare, I do a quick google search and tag them in various places. I do this so I have a full bibliography page. Aside from that, I just make stuff up that I have seen or heard from life or movies, and write about it. In fact, I have added several "quacks" and other anomalies to my papers that are either never discovered or are never questioned by my instructors.
The learning teams are a joke. I do not understand why 30% or more of my grade should be determined by other people. Are they helping pay the tuition? No. The Government is via GI Bill. Either way, the work is simple and usually done within a few hours. Sometimes, when I have a real crew of winners, I have to do all the work myself. Not because I really like these guys or love doing extra work, no. It's because I have to or risk losing credit.
The instructors/teachers/baby sitters/facilitators/whatever they are, are hit or miss. Some care and really put forth the effort to help and explain. Most don't care and are there for a paycheck. I don't even really care because I'm collecting a paycheck but, its their job to teach or facilitate or whatever is written in their job description. I have had grown men stand in front of the class and make sexist jokes, use profanity, make derogatory comments about other students, and in one instance, pull me out of class and cuss at me all because I didn't feel comfortable telling him what I did for a living. He thought it was necessary to state that he had been arrested several times and been in trouble with the law. I don't really care about that. What I do care about is the fact that they are now setting the example for how to act in a professional setting. I am a vet but I have been out of the military for several years. 99% of all my classes are composed of men and women that are straight from the military and this is their acclimatization to the civilian world. Great work, guys. Way to set people up for success!
The system as a whole is corrupt. My grades have been adjusted on more than one occasion. It's for the best, for me, but I wonder why would anyone change a "C-" to a "B" when you don't have to? I was supposed to be on track to graduate around mid-July 2014. YAY!! However, I received a phone call this morning (02/07/2014) to announce that, "After reviewing your file, we found that you were 18 credits shy of your degree." Now I asked the lady, who sounded nice, why would you just now be finding this out when I have been enrolled for nearly 2 years? Her answer? "I don't know." Wonderful! After some more petty banter, I discovered a couple of lies, or half-truths, she tried to spin about how the schedule wasn't fully posted and that scheduling isn't done all at once and my favorite, "Well, I tell people to just work on it and do what they want." What? How does that apply to what I said? I should have asked if she knows what an agreement is. I say this because I agreed to pay a certain amount of money and in return they agree to give me a degree. Now they are changing the terms of our agreement and I am supposed to agree with it? The phone call ended with more "I don't knows" to any of my questions when I finally said I would call back when someone did know. I am aware how ridiculous that sounded.
How can anyone tell me with a straight face that the schedule that I was given at the beginning of my "academic" journey was good enough for 2012 but not for 2014? Where did these classes come from? Personally, I think they are trying to extend my schooling to get more money from the GI Bill. Think about it, a bunch of men and women that sign up with a free government bank account in their hand? Of course they want you to sign up. You are a guaranteed paycheck for them. They don't have to worry about student loans, late payments, or anything. They even help you sign up. How nice is that? Can anyone tell me why there is such a high turnover rate for academic and financial counselors? I think I have had as many of them as facilitators (teachers?). I guess they all do such a wonderful job they are on the fast track to promotionsville.
Either way, ALL vets that sign up at the UoP sign up for the wrong reasons. Yes, you will make a paycheck each month, good luck with that. As a vet, I only signed up for the money. I can say that because it's true. This education is a joke, the instructors are a joke, and the facility is a joke. The high caliber of students should be a huge signal to anyone that is looking for a legitimate education. If I wasn't already locked into a decent career, I would be sweating bullets right now because of how worthless this, and all, UoP degrees are. If you are getting out of the military and looking for a good education, go to a state school from your home of record. It is most likely free or low cost and the GI Bill can assist on books, laptops, and other school supplies like mechanical pencils and paper and stuff.
I will never recommend this school to anyone, in fact, I warn people about it. If you don't believe me, good. Do the research on your own. Find out for yourself how many others don't recommend this school. It will amaze you. However, if you are only looking to collect some money for a couple of years without really having to do anything, I know just the place.

I was in the Industrial Organizational Psychology PhD program with UOP and due to not satisfactorily passing one dimension of a three dimension comprehensive exam, was told I am now out of the program after two years of school with nothing to show for it but huge loans. A program, I also just recently found out, is now no longer being offered at UOP. Those students who are currently still in it will either one by one fail, drop out, or get a degree not worth much. By getting me out this way, shows they are trying to get rid of their obligations after taking 2 years of tuition money, with less and less faculty qualified enough with research published, to fulfill their obligation, with committee members for the remainder of the students still doing the course. Another huge issue UOP is facing.
In further explanation, I did not do so well according to two faculty members with the behavioral/structural interview and they failed me, after passing the first two dimension way before class...which is the majority of PSYCH/799... Then, I rescheduled very quickly to get it done before the holidays with my chair going on her honeymoon, with no one telling me that it's the last time I get to do it over or that failing the phone interview again will result in me being kicked out of the program! If they told me I would have taken a 3 month break till after the holidays, my sister's serious illness, and my chair getting married. Plus, if all concerned, knew or were reminded of the seriousness of being kicked out of the program by taking the class the 2nd time (who already passed the majority of the dimensions of the class, and who only needed to pass a phone interview) then why did they not change the two people who interviewed me for the second time? Why give me the exact same two people to conduct the interview? So, the exact same thing happened...even worse... I was more nervous...plus they asked the same frame of questions of which I answered the exact same way...so they failed me the exact same way again...
Then, when I wanted to reschedule the class again they told me I am now out of the program and need to write a letter to appeal. What an easy way of getting rid of people who paid for an extra 2 years of school and have nothing to show for it... I just wasted two years of my life, and thousands of dollars, that I now have to pay back with nothing to show for it. They told me I needed to appeal to be allowed back in class (also not telling me the appeal is final or I would have hired an attorney to appeal on my behalf).
So, in my ignorance with no guidance or education from the school I wrote the following appeal letter which was denied within a week, and a new academic advisor within the same day of denied appeal. The appeal letter that was denied:
"I was informed that I need to appeal to be allowed to further my completion of the Industrial/Organizational Psychology program since I failed the 3rd Dimension of the Comprehensive Exam, the Behavioral/Structural Interview twice. The comprehensive exam has a three part dimension and all three dimensions have to be completed before continuing the program. PSYCH/799 is a three week class where those who have not completed the first two dimensions before the start of PSYCH/799 will have the opportunity to complete these two dimensions within class, given only one week per dimension.
I successfully completed the first two dimensions of the exam before the deadline of enrollment into PSYCH/799, and only had to conduct a structural behavioral interview with my chair and one other faculty member. Since I have successfully completed the first two dimensions before the start of the class, each time I had to wait two weeks (maybe also due to scheduling conflicts) to do the 3rd dimension which is the Behavioral/Structural Interview, adding to the stress build up.
My first enrollment into PSYCH/799 with my chair, was between 10/22/2013-11/11/2013. The two week wait before the interview was a blessing for preparation's sake but also a curse for the stress and nerve levels. Other students who did not successfully complete the first two dimensions had it hard, as they had to complete all three levels within a three week period but also had the opportunity to rewrite the written exam or redo the presentation if they failed to satisfactorily show comprehension.
When I failed to answer the interview questions satisfactorily to show comprehension of the program, I failed the entire PSYCH/799 class and were not given the opportunity or time to redo the interview while in class. I then had to re-enroll into PSYCH/799 and pay $810 out of pocket to redo the entire PSYCH/799 of which I did. I then started the second PSYCH/799 three week class on 11/26/13-12/16/13. The exact same situation happened. I had to wait two weeks before we all three had to agree on an appropriate time to redo the interview.
Again, a nerve wrecking two weeks of preparation and wait to do an interview with the exact same two people I had the first time around. My chair, gave me enough time, support, wisdom, advice, and encouragement but I feel I did worse the second time around than the first time, and I failed PSYCH/799 the exact same way, if not worse!
I am now appealing to all who are concerned, to give me the same courtesy to redo the phone interview without further cost to me, and with two different faculty members, without unnecessary wait periods to improve my thoughts, nerves, and stress levels with enough examples of what the answer should sound like since I come from a different culture. I can understand that I do not have proper comprehension of this course if my GPA level was not satisfactory but I currently have a 3.79 GPA.
Please do not deny me the opportunity to continue my dedication to this program and to better myself, since I now know I have a tremendous fear of being tested verbally. Although I had access to my computer and Google during the phone interview, I wanted to stay authentic and honest to myself by answering definitions and applications of a million theories, concepts, and applications as best as I could under a stressful situation but continued to fail immaterial, while building the belief that I am falling into a dreadful pattern where phone interviews are concerned.
If I need to redo this one dimension then please allow me the same courtesy to change what was not satisfactory until it is, as my peers experienced, while in class, without further financial strain. I sincerely thank you in advance for your serious and favorable consideration of this unfortunate truth."

I always assumed that it was something that I had done wrong, I was making a mistake somewhere because college was costing me more than my friends. What I learned was that UOP was taking a lot more than other schools despite the claim they are cheaper. I found myself "running out of aid" even though I had never attended a college or trade school prior. They started demanding I pay for classes and then demanding high payments rather than over time that were affordable. I got a call that they gave me too much money back and demanded that I repay it. I had called previously and verified the amount of my return the week before it was deposited so it was correct at that time. They said they had to make an adjustment and that was how they found the mistake but were unable to provide me any documentation of the correction or original mistake.
My online account was updated to reflect the new balance and they refused my appeal. I am a year behind my original graduation date and falling further because I found out two months ago I had to pay for yet another class. Most students I know get money back several hundred even a few thousand dollars I am paying, I have not gotten a refund check since my final set of classes for my associates. My classes will not transfer, and most colleges I want to attend will require me to test in and/or repeat certain classes because they do not recognize Phoenix.

I was told by a UOP recruiter in 1994 that UOP BSN program was 2 years in length; that after going every Tuesday night for 2 years I would earn a BSN. In 1996, I completed the "program" and "graduated with honors" at the ceremony held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Several years later, I began looking into furthering my education by pursuing a MBA. Upon review of my transcripts by a reputable university, I was informed that I was not granted a degree. I called UOP; this couldn't possibly be accurate! It was. The "program" did not include 9 upper division non-nursing elective credits that I needed to complete my studies. That was frustrating enough but I figured, OK which 9 units can I take to satisfy these missing credits.
The admissions counselor at UOP was sorry to inform me that since it had been more than 10 years since I "graduated," the program requirements have changed and I now need 38-39 units to complete my BSN. Only another $20,000! I have attempted to request that UOP allow my 20 years work experience be used to satisfy this deficiency. I was told that this is not possible. Other schools won't allow me to complete my BSN degree or enroll in an MBA without a BS or BA. The University has a responsibility to its students to ensure they are well informed and counseled or guided through completion of their degree. Who would pay $50,000 and give up hundreds of hours of personal time to walk away with NOTHING? I have nothing to show for my commitment. A class action lawsuit definitely needs to be pursued. Every university I have reached out to has told me I am not the first person they heard this story from.

I am in my last block of classes and due to graduate in March 2013. Up until last week, I had three transferred credits, so I only needed one class in this last block. All of a sudden, my three credits were erased and now I have to take two classes and pay for one I did not need. My state grant should have been applied in November 2013, but they said they could not find my transcripts. I told them again that they were in my maiden name, and they finally found them. My financial advisor said that she sent me a message telling me that the grant was denied because I had already completed four full years of academic years so I did not qualify. Besides four months at a Vo-Tech 25 years ago, UOP is the only college I have attended. She did not send me a message in December and could not provide me with a copy of the message.
I disputed their decision on the grant this week, and they said that they would look into it. Today, I got a denial again, this time it was denied because I don't need the money when I have so few credits left to complete. In November when it should have been disbursed, I had 18 credits left to complete. I had filled out the forms for the grant in January 2013... you would think that they would have had time to process the forms by November. I never know who my academic advisor or financial advisor are because they seem to change weekly. So, now here I am in week two of my last two classes owing them 2500.00 that I do not have. I imagine they will tell me I cannot graduate until I pay this money for the classes that the grant would have more than covered. I had to fill out forms to receive my student loan disbursements more than half of the time I have attended UOP. They were earning money on the money I was paying interest on, and they withhold the funds for as long as they can or until you get nasty and threaten them.
There are good instructors, and there are very poor instructors who cannot spell or structure a sentence. In many classes I have not had to open a book; either I am very smart or the classes are far too easy. I have a 3.87 GPA going into these last two classes, Algebra brought me down a bit. With a first-time student graduation rate of 15 - 18 percent, be very leery of what you are getting yourself into. It is a constant battle of fighting for your funds and disputing all of the mistakes in their automated grading system. I have waited to fulfill this dream of earning a degree for more than 30 years, and now when I am so close, all of the sudden I have no funds to finish. I would not recommend UOP to anyone who is serious about their education, and I wish I had read some of these reviews before I enrolled in the "school of scam". If anyone is serious about the class action lawsuit against them, make it public, and you will most likely have hundreds if not thousands of us standing with you.

I am concerned that this university may be a scam. I started online courses. I was immediately asked to pay for 2 courses up front although only one had begun. That raised a red flag for me. Then in the first week of my online class, there were problems. There was a lack of clear communication of expectations between faculty and student. I submitted a whopping total of 11 essays to the Prof and quite a number were not graded. I called the Prof., my calls were not returned. I questioned the grading scheme with academic advisers and they advised me to drop out the course which meant losing most of the money which I had already paid in full for the course and paying over again.
I suspect that this is being done intentionally to possibly line someone's pocket. I have turned my work over to an administrator and will seek legal counsel regarding this if necessary. If I fail my course, I miss the deadline for entry into a master's program which I will take very seriously. Is anyone interested in a class action lawsuit, because if that happens to me I will pursue one. If so, please contact me.

Then she tells me on a voicemail we can't get you enrolled because you didn't pay your fee as if it were my fault when she specifically told me weeks prior not to worry that there was no application fee. Wow. I hung up on her and got a voicemail 3 days later asking me to please call her. I called her and she got the fee waived because of her ignorance... Then I was hoping everything would be fine, kept going and filed my FASFA paperwork.
I filed it Oct 29, 2013 and it is Jan 23, 2014 and just receiving my financial AID money. I had to take money from my regular paycheck to get a computer that I needed to get with my FIN aid money that took 3 months to receive. This school is totally incompetent when it comes to getting you financial AID money. I am veteran and my VA money is what paid that majority of my tuition and on time otherwise I would have had major troubles there. The University is just a scammed to get your money. They have no intention of helping you or letting you graduate. That is the reason why they have graduation rate of 15 percent. How can any school call themselves University when they don't even have 50% graduation rate? They focus on marketing and make it easy for you to enroll and rake up your loans from the government. Faculties are not helpful and teach, they give you the book then require you to post. The faculties are call facilitator because all they do are less than the help of another student. They also changed their requirements in the midstream without notifying you until the end when you are about to graduate and owe lots of money. The worse financial exploitation of students I have ever seen. We should start class action lawsuit.
