I found the online platform extremely easy to adjust to. It allowed me to do the courses when I had the time to no matter what time of day it was. And for the most part, the courses I've taken are hit and miss, some are helpful and others, not so much. I loved the fact that all the assignments were given on the first day of class. The reason this was important to me was because it gave me the opportunity to work ahead of the rest of the class if I wanted or needed to. I also liked that the professors were very quick to respond even if you were further along in the class than where the rest of the class was. I would lower the cost, because even though it is an excellent program, jobs are not always available after graduation. I know I haven't even finished my degree yet and I'm already sitting at a substantial amount of money that needs to be re-paid.

Kaplan University is an okay school. They have resources for students who needs extra help like tutoring, but you'll have to seek out the help if needed. It is a for profit school so if you can't pay for your classes then I suggest taking a break or you'll end up being blocked from classes and still having to pay for the weeks you did attend. Some instructors are very helpful and there are some that just do the minimum so I suggest looking up the instructor before taking the class. The classes is challenging but not overwhelming. You just have to keep up and try not to fall behind. The online environment is good. You have a lot of support through the class.

    Ease of Use

    Reviewed May 30, 2017

The internet platform used is very intuitive and user friendly. It is very easy to get into and understand the layout and what is going on, and this matters because everything you do will stem from there. Also, all of your records are easy to find and view or print. The classes themselves are far too easy. It does not feel like you are learning as much as you should, and the material they do teach you seems like it is simply driven to pass the exams. However, the interactive "classrooms" are short, and on several occasions the professor did not show up, and there was no explanation given. When you did have class, there were far too many students, so you usually could not participate. The platform is very straightforward, and you are usually 1 or 2 clicks away from anything that you would be looking for. You are required to participate in the discussion boards every week as part of your grade.

The method of evaluating a little is things that gradually improve as well as users, although there are things that are needed more practice everything that applies is good. The enrollment method is easy. Enter the main page you are looking for what you are going to study. You fill out your forms, you make your payment and you are ready in contacts with the teachers.

Great online courses but they need more associate degrees. Also I had an issue with credit transfers, they should definitely accept more credits and take into account life experiences. The online platform was very easy and very well put together, I never had any issues. There were no major bugs in the software and my wifi reception didn't have to be perfect in order for the software to work. However, they shouldn't require students to stay in school for the year round semesters. Burnout is a huge issue especially for students working full-time and going to school at the same time.

It makes me a better person and gives me insight into myself that I didn't know I had. It gives me confidence and pride when I tell people I am in college learning a valuable trade. The enrollment process was easy and the courses have been helpful. First I saw a commercial for Kaplan, then I called the number, set up an interview, signed paperwork with electronic signature after choosing courses and getting approved for a grant. Then my schedule was generated on the classes I will take and I started on the start date.

You know what all your classes are for the whole semester. However, I dislike having to sign in for seminars because most of them are boring. I don't like sitting in front of the computer watching these things and sometimes trying to give answers to some questions you have is difficult because everyone else needs help or the attention of the teacher. Program is offered online so don't have to attend campus. Online classes are the only way to go, they allow you to work at your own pace and in your own environment and doesn't interfere with work schedule or family time. I still work full time and have time for family. It has been easy to take classes online, no real glitches or issues at this point. This is much better than online courses, no fixed or set schedule and you can still reach out to your instructor for help. I enjoy all the classes I have taken so far and encourage others to try it.

Enrollment is really easy once you comply with all the requirements, the system guide you all the time with very much useful information and the very user friendly. System were really good most of the time, sometimes there were some delays but nothing to worry about, no deal breaker at all for me.

I have seen online schools who don't even try half as hard as this place did. The enrollment was a pretty simple process in learning about this place. So I started college for the first time in Arkansas and already started school when I was advised that apparently I couldn't get my financial aid all because a Kaplan University having me as I was a student and had loans took out when I never even heard of them. I called them first thing and of course they didn't have anything in a file on me not even a copy of a ID! They told me to file a police report and fax it to them and also put my phone number and email in their system. After 5 times of sending the police report and keeping a copy of everything I sent it showing it sent they finally stopped lying saying they didn't get it.

After calling and calling and them saying it will take weeks and told me to stop calling them I found out the bank wrote it off as fraud but the school refuses to talk to me now and won't fix it on their end so I can get my financial aid. After calling once a week for the last 4 months every time I call they said they dropped the case because I gave them the wrong number and email to reach me but yet they read it back and it’s correct, and now the manager refuses to talk to me or give a phone number so I can have a attorney call them and tell me I need to give up because it's not their job to fix it. Now I want a lawsuit and whatever it takes!

In 2015, I started this program (Bachelors of Science Legal Studies) and I would be done if this institution was responsible. I was selected for some sort of verification in the summer of 2016 (for basically being too poor). They didn't quite explain it. They just made me turn in a bunch of documents. I was already in class when it happened and was given the okay that I'd be able to continue with my program and then out of nowhere I received a bill for 3,900 and something dollars that I needed to pay in full before I could start my next class - so long story short I was barred from my classes. I tried calling and talking to them and all that would happen is I'd be on hold, switch from line to line to basically be told I can't start until I pay that. How does that make any sense? They have seen my tax transcripts and they know I don't magically have 4,000 dollars to pay out of nowhere.

To make matters worse they are tacking on 100$ worth of interest every month that I can't pay. Pretty soon I'll have to start paying on a student loan I also don't have the money for because I wasn't able to finish my degree. No one has explained to me how this happened. They keep putting it off on me like I did something wrong, but how does that work when I did everything they told me to? This has ruined the last eight months of my life. Does anyone know what they charged this insane amount for? I'm noticing a trend here on the reviews, by the way. Thanks for nothing Kaplan.

I started attending Kaplan University for a Masters program while I was living remotely in the woods. I thought Kaplan would work perfectly for me during this time of my life. The joke was on me. After 5 terms I realized that the school was a scam and wasting my funds. I called my guidance counselor numerous times over my first four terms. I emailed this woman numerous times as well trying to ask for assistance with some ideas for studying and to discuss my thesis. Not once did this counselor contact me. I then requested a new guidance counselor which was another huge ordeal for the guidance office took personal offense to my complaint regarding this individual's horrible professionalism.

The last course I participated in gave me my final opinion of the university. For being an online school, I would think their server would work perfectly, especially for the amount of tuition I was paying. HA nope!!! Out of the 10 classes, which are only one hour long, 8 the professor disappeared. Sometimes she would disappear for most of the class. My fellow classmates and I would openly discuss in the forum how we found it bizarre how the professor would disappear for long periods. She finally gave the excuse that she had spoken with the IT Department with the claims that nothing was wrong with her connection or the server. This upset most of us in the course for we lost much of our class time, our time to ask questions, and placed the blame on us the student.

I personally contacted the IT Department. Their response is they have no control of others' computers connecting to the server. Kaplan passed all the responsibility of the fact an entire class kept losing their professor off the server. I also found it very interesting that the professor did not stand by her entire class and actually resolve the problem. I suggest to no one to attend this joke of a university.

I started Kaplan in 2015 for a BS degree in Healthcare Administration. From the very beginning I had support. Kaplan also accepted most of my transfer credits to my new career choice. Financial aid helped make sure my financial aid was up to date. But it is not their responsibility to tell you how or when your financial aid is ending. I questioned my financial adviser and she looked into it for me. I know it seems harsh but some lessons we learn the hard way. Don't blame an institution because you neglected to do your research. You have to take some of the responsibility. They put me on a great path.

When I call Kaplan, they are there to answer any questions I may have. I am now starting my Masters at Kaplan and expect the same care as my first week of class. Kaplan held my hand by giving 3 free weeks to see if the experience is for you and helped me along. I think Kaplan is great, but every school isn't for everybody, choose wisely. I spoke with a man who told me there would be no issues with my aid and loans and I would be able to finish my degree with the funding I had left. He told me I should start taking 3 classes per semester and that should help. I said "ok".

MY DREAMS WERE CRUSHED! I contacted financial aid, they told me there was nothing they could do about it. I had to pay it or they would put a hold on my account. I told them I could not pay it and I was lied to by the school!!! I was told that I had enough money in my loans to finish out my degree. Now, I have nothing. I'm in the 2nd week of my last term and I graduate Aprill 11th with a bachelor's in Psychology with a concentration in addictions. The classes are rigorous and you have to give it your all; online schooling will not give you good grades for "**" work. There's 10 units in every course and you usually take two classes a term. The unit runs from Wednesday to Tuesday and all work for that unit has to be submitted by 11:59 PM Tuesday night. You go one seminar a week, which the majority of are held on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Mondays, but you can access your unit and see what work needs to be done at any time during the week; you don't have to wait to take the seminar.

The professors are amazing, now that's not to say you won't get ones who drive you crazy; some make seminar so boring you fall asleep, some take points for every tiny thing, some that have rules others don't (i.e. Having to submit your initial post by Saturday, and having to participate in discussion boards on three different days); some accept work after 11:59pm and into the wee hours of the night because they understand we live in different time zones, while others will lock the unit the second the clock strikes midnight.

Kaplan University campuses and courses online are just as good as any other college. During my first 3 week trial period, I contacted around 25 employers in different forms of treatment; including, in and outpatient treatment centers, hospitals, private practices, and methadone clinics. Not one of those facilities said they had a problem with Kaplan University. The crap I've read about employers throwing resumes in the trash when they see the applicant graduated from Kaplan is just that bullcrap.

However, several of those employers said that applicants with a degree from University of Phoenix would be avoided if possible. I had a 4.0 GPA for my first two years, but I admit it did drop when my husband deployed and with four kids I was struggling on my own. I've gotten three C's and one F, which brought my GPA down to 3.64. There is no way I would have gotten those C's if it wasn't for the empathy, compassion, and understanding if my professors. The F was unfixable because it was a graduate course.

Oh yeah, here's another great thing about Kaplan, if you plan on getting your master's degree right after your bachelor's, Kaplan has a master's accelerated program where you can take graduate courses as electives while earning your bachelor's. You have to have a 3.0 (not 100% on that one), you have to write an essay about why you want to join the program and your future goals, and you have to have 4 open electives. If you're accepted, like I was, you have to get at least a B in each class to stay in the program, and when you finish you have 20 credits go to your bachelor's degree and when you start your master's degree the grades from those classes carry over and you have a shortened masters degree program. That's 6 months off your master's degree. However, I did call the first class due to personal issues and if you fail you get kicked out of the program and you cannot retake that course; that's why my GPA took a nose dive.

Okay, now I'd like to address some of the things people said on here. For the woman who turned her paper in the wrong format and is blaming the teacher for not grading it on time... that's not the professor's fault. S/he doesn't have to grade work during the unit work is due or even the next week. If you had submitted the paper in correct format you would have won the grade appeal. When we first start at Kaplan we sign a paper stating we will have Microsoft Office; it's a requirement and in every course I've taken it's also been stated in the rubric. You said you had gotten all these A's then you should have known better. Also, and a few people have posted about this, as far as scholarships go that let's say 12k is not one lump sum that you get, it's spread out over a certain number of classes.

For example, I receive the single parent scholarship from Kaplan, which in total adds up to $8,000, but I only get $500 of it each term and I have to take at least two classes a term to receive it. So, just because you have a $12,000 scholarship and you owe the University say $9,000 doesn't mean you get all but $3,000 of the scholarship to pay it off. There was also someone who said that all Kaplan cares about is money, which is and isn't true. Kaplan University is a for-profit university and other schools are non-profit; this isn't a derogatory term used to put down universities it's a classification. Kaplan cares very much for their students and they want them to succeed.

They have a graduation percentage, which is how many enroll and graduate versus those who enroll and don't graduate, and the higher it is the more people want to go there. I have had my educational advisor, my professors, and even the dean go above and beyond to help me succeed. For example, they all worked on trying to get that F off my transcripts for weeks, and I ran out of funding and still had 3 classes left. That would have cost me over $5,565, but my education advisor figured out I could take Kaplan's Open College to get the credit for those 3 classes and they're free, the only thing you have to pay for is $100 for the assessment/exam.

The courses are self-paced, they have 5 modules where you read a few chapter, take quiz, do some activities, and then take the exam, but none of that other stuff counts on your grade; you have to take the little quizzes to unlock the assessment but you don't have to get a certain grade on them, you have to pass the assessment to get the 5 credits, and you're only allowed to take up to three courses if you're already enrolled in Kaplan.

Bottom line, Kaplan is a great school, what and when I read the comments it's blatantly obvious that for almost all of them the fault was theirs alone. You what's required of you, you know what you have to do, and it's your responsibility to monitor your government funding. You can go right to FAFSA website and see how much was given to Kaplan every term, how much funding you have left; that way if something funky happens you can address it right away. Online schooling isn't for everyone, some people fail, and they want someone to blame, that's normal, that's human, but students are constantly dropping out or being expelled for their grades or for lack of payment.

Most of these posts are from people who were expelled for those reasons. I graduate in 9 weeks, so take it from me this is a great school as long as you're ready to work hard to reach your goals, and Kaplan has tons of tools, professors, and tutors to help you reach those goals. There's a math center for tutoring, access to a library filled with all the research information you can imagine, and there's even a writing center where you can turn your paper in and they'll give you advice within 48 hours on grammar, essay set-up, and what all needs to be fixed on your paper. I love Kaplan and if you're a hard worker so will you. You get what you put into it.

I was solicited by Kaplan University after filling out a request for a grant or scholarship so I talked to an advisor about the Paralegal Studies Associate Degree. I had been certified as a Paralegal a few years prior and thought if I got my degree, I wouldn't have to keep getting recertified. It seemed like a good plan and the advisor convinced me that it was. I had gone to community college where I received my Computer Applications Certificate in early the 2000s and was on the Dean's List and in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I was able to transfer 40 credits toward my Associates Degree, which only left me with 50 credits to earn for my Degree. Kaplan also gave me a $15,800 scholarship, which they said would cover most of my tuition and I could pay for the rest with student loans. It sounded doable so I enrolled.

I was a 63-year-old widow (now 65), working full time, so the online course was perfect for me. I was doing very well in my classes, getting almost all A's, and on the Dean's List at Kaplan. I had four classes to go to complete my studies and earn my Degree when I lost my scholarship due to my professor not informing me that my final project for her class was submitted in an unreadable format in a timely manner so I could resubmit it. She had, on more than one occasion, turn our grades in late, and this was the case on our finale projects. Because of her negligence, I was not given the opportunity to resubmit my assignment so I could receive the grade I deserved. I was getting almost all A's in this course too.

What happened was, and this really pisses me off, I had purchased an HP laptop right before I started school, and I would do some of my assignments on the laptop, but I would submit my assignments into the dropbox from my desktop computer because Microsoft had Word Starter on my HP, and as a marketing strategy, they had it designed to randomly reformat documents to encourage you to subscribe to their Microsoft Office Suite. That's right, you couldn't buy the product, you had to rent it, and resubscribe every year, so you had to pay for it each year. I couldn't afford to do that at the time, so I just made sure I submitted my assignments from my desktop.

One night, I was working in a client's home (I am a caregiver), and I was finishing my final project, which had to be turned in by 9pm PST in order to be submitted on time EST. I had to submit the assignment from my laptop because I would not get home till after 9pm. When I opened my assignment it was in Word format, but when it went into the dropbox it was reformatted into an unreadable format. Since the professor was late in grading our assignments, she never emailed to inform me of this and ask me to resubmit it. Instead, she gave me an F in the whole course. She never even returned any of my emails regarding this issue, I think because she was at fault and didn't care that she lost me my scholarship. I had never turned an assignment in late in any of my classes.

When I talked to my advisor about what happened, I was told that I could try to appeal the results, but I shouldn't bother because it probably wouldn't do any good. Needless to say, I feel that I was scammed. It was as if Kaplan just waited for the first opportunity to yank my scholarship. Due to this unfair treatment of me, a student with a high GPA, and an excellent record of completing and turning in all assignments on time, I now have over $12,000 in students loans that I can't repay.

I have been able to get a forbearance for the last two years, but I thought I had to pay a company to negotiate on my behalf. Come to find out, after paying a company $300 the first time, I got a for one year, and then the company called me a year later and I paid them another $300, only to find that they took my money and didn't contact FAFSA to get me a forbearance for another year, they just took my money. So, I called and took care of it myself. So, I was out $600, plus the over $12,000 in student debt that I can't afford to pay, and no Degree! I want to see Kaplan University go down. They are nothing more than major a con artist.

Two weeks later I get told that that money will have to be paid at the end of the semester or I can not keep going. I emailed them a second time and they said it should be within 3 to 5 days. I have no faith it will get done this time. This school has no reason to be binding me up with getting into another school other than spite. I paid the balance due by the due date. I did what was asked of me. They refuse to do their part. I also was rewarded 8,500 in scholarships I never heard about past being awarded them? I'm just confused. I was 7 weeks in my classes, I attended them I just never sent in the work because I was told I could send it all at once. Then I was told I needed another form for my aid. I made a scribble on one of the forms I faxed, which I initialed so as to say yes I made this small scribble (like I was taught in high school) so I needed to re-fax it. Done. Transcripts sent. Transcripts returned??? I was awarded zero after I was told I was getting 8,500 in scholarships alone. That won't pay for a semester??? Why are my transcripts back in my mailbox? I paid for them, they are the official ones! I was also taking out loans and getting all of my Pell or so I was told by my lying advisor.

I needed the money for a computer, internet, a roof over my head because I moved home for this and I have to have power, water etc. Which I promised to pay my father back for... you know basic needs and school related stuff, food. Well I waited for an email because that's what you do. Nothing. I asked my advisor, she said "funny, I haven't seen any forms from you". My faxes were received from my end. I asked my advisor about filing a hardship because I couldn't pay to have internet so I could attend classes, etc. Nothing. No replies. All emails stopped. Nothing. The semester is over now so no one is even admitting I'm enrolled or was enrolled if I do get someone half decent in the phone because they dropped my classes 9 and a half weeks in?! I attended every "seminar" up until they started giving me the run around 7 weeks.

I have a 4,000 bill but no way to pay it so they might as well let me sink myself into debt with loans so I could pay them right? But no. Now my family thinks I've lied to them so what am I supposed to do?! Did I mention I'm homeless now Kaplan?! I wasted my time, my money, my credibility, and put myself into a future hole hoping I would have something to show for it. The only reason I wasn't posting my work was because I was behind on the first two weeks because my former best friend tried to kill herself by first week of class while I was babysitting for the weekend and staying overnight. So, I asked to file a hardship and my advisor just overlooked my question of how to do so all together and she just told me to send my work in when it was finished. Well I wasted a lot of time on weeks 3-7 that I'll never get to send in because they dropped me. This is a nightmare. What gives with this rip off school? How can they do this?? It's 2016!

This school has failed to uphold their responsibility to me as a student after attending for three years. I was told during admission that my financial aid would cover my entire higher education, only to find out in the middle of a semester, three years later, 5 months before I'm supposed to graduate, that I've exhausted my financial aid and that I would be required to pay for the remainder of my higher education out of pocket. Being on a tight budget, this was impossible for me. This resulted in me withdrawing from the two classes I was in the middle of, and dis-enrolling from the school. I was told by the education advisers that I would be dropped from both classes and that my grades would not post to my transcript.

Now, 6 months after dis-enrolling, I am trying to admit into another online school so I may finish my higher education and get my degree. The new school I am trying to attend requested my official transcript from Kaplan to complete the admissions process, but Kaplan has put a hold on my account. Come to find out that this hold was placed on my account for "financial, or academic reasons."

After looking into it, I've found out that I was NOT dropped from the two classes when I was told I would be, I was not dis-enrolled when I was told I would be, and due to me not attending classes after the phone call I made to dis-enroll myself, was expelled from the school due to consecutive non-attendance. On top of this, I am being required to pay for the remaining balance not covered by financial aid for the two classes I was supposed to be dropped from, which is several thousands of dollars, AND because I wasn't dropped from the two classes, as I was told I would be, I failed them and my GPA was affected negatively.

In short, Kaplan University has screwed me over financially, in regards to my grades and GPA, and are now also preventing me from continuing my higher education elsewhere, due to placing a hold on my transcript. If the financial aid department at Kaplan University had informed me well before exhausting my financial aid, instead of the day it was exhausted, I would have been able to prepare and save up in order to pay for the remainder of my higher education with them out of pocket. But, given their lack of responsibility, I now cannot move forward in obtaining my degree. I've filed a complaint/dispute with their accrediting agency, the Higher Learning Commission, and am currently awaiting a response regarding this matter. Save yourself some time, trouble, and money by NOT attending this dishonest, stealthy institution for your higher education needs.

Brightwood College formerly Kaplan College has put loans with my info. How? IDK... but I'm sure it's a solution for this. Reading the reviews I'm sure I'm not the only one. This school need to be reported as fraud. I'm sure Department of Education will dispute this from your account. But why and how did they get anyone info to proceed.

All they want is people's money and I don't have a lot of money. Someone needs to stop these people. All they want is your money, forging signatures and stealing people's identity. I wouldn't ever go to Kaplan. Quit ripping people off. These are people's lives you're ripping apart. I would like to know if there's help out there for them filing student loans under my name. Seems no one believes me but it's true. They opened accounts under my name and thousands and thousands of government money went to these con artist.

I've been going to Kaplan for roughly 3 years. The courses are rigorous and challenging. Each term is typically 9-10 weeks long. I received a partial scholarship, and student financial aid. All financing has been delivered as promised. Sometimes the payments are a bit delayed, but eventually the financial department gets everything where it needs to go. I attended University of Phoenix prior to going here. I've found Kaplan to be much more educational, with particularity, the amount of information I retain after each term. I am noticeably more intelligent, my writing skills are becoming very acute, and I can see a huge difference in the amount of knowledge I have.

Many people who go here are happy, but there's always a few who wouldn't be happy at 'any' school, no matter how astute the college may be. I can honestly say that if it were not for Kaplan I would not be able to get a degree, or benefit from the vast amount of knowledge I have obtained. I'm currently in the legal studies program, and let me tell you, it is very challenging, but worth every moment. I have learned specific legal industry data; how to write legal briefs, how to cite using BlueBook, how to use Westlaw for legal research, how to write to my audience, and much, much more. It is a rich education, however, as with any education it is fully up to me to use my education to find employment. Luckily I am also an entrepreneur, so I know how to work for myself.

So, to all of the 'class action' folks on this website... shut up and get off your lazy tails and stop expecting everyone to give you everything. Go to work and payoff the loans you agreed to accept, then finish your degree; but, this time, instead of just doing what it takes to get by actually apply yourself and LEARN something. It's up to you to retain your knowledge. Nobody will do it for you!

I have 3 children, run my own business, and I'm over 50 years old. If I can do it, so can you! My current GPA is 4.0. I work hard to maintain it, and if my financial aid runs out, which it probably won't because I haven't changed my initial degree plan, then I will find another way to pay for it. What I won't do is blame Kaplan, or anyone else, for my failure to complete the degree. It is up to 'me' in this life. Kaplan is just an information hub who validates that you are a decent person who can finish a project. If you sue you are simply telling the world, including employers, that you are the kind of person who will sue to get what you want, even if you don't deserve it. Best of luck. I graduate next August.

TL:DR version: If you want a real education without getting jerked around then go elsewhere. However if you don't mind having your student loans maxed out for a mere 10 hours of instruction in each class, and don't mind classes that teach you nothing, then maybe Kaplan is for you. I was contacted by Kaplan in late September 2015 because I had indicated on some survey that I would like to continue my education. Instead of taking their time to get things right I was rushed through the admissions process in two days because they were eager to get me started in the next term. I was a little uncomfortable with this but went with it thinking I could trust them. Additionally according to my works HR page, Kaplan was offering a 10% discount for people at my employer. With those thoughts in mind I started in late September.

My first indication that something was horribly wrong was the "admissions test" that I had to take. While I understood that Kaplan has somewhat lower standards than say, Harvard, I was still expecting a little more. I honestly cannot fathom how someone with above a 6th grade education could possibly fail this exam. My first term was a complete waste of money. $3,133 of student loans for classes that I could have taught. When I mentioned this I was told, halfway through the term, that I could have taken ANOTHER class that would see what life experiences would give me credit.

My first problem with this is that, in any other reputable college in the country, they do not require you to take an additional class to prove what you know. Instead they offer competency exams for a nominal fee and give you credit for the course. The second problem was, given how late in the term it was, I had no option of doing this for these classes.

Now to their credit the teachers for that term were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately they had very little to teach that most of us didn't already know. My "Foundations in Information Technology" class only had seven people in it, all of whom already worked or had experience in the IT field. Due to the small class size it made it almost impossible to complete the required "discussion posts" that accounted for about 40% of your grade. Many of our classes literally consisted of the professor randomly reading stuff out of the book with him mumbling "you guys already know that..."

I passed the first term with a perfect 4.0 thinking that things would get better. I was sadly mistaken. I still had not received any funding from my student loan and I was not receiving my discount. When I mentioned this I was told, via email of course, that my employer must be mistaken as that promotion had already ended. When I repeatedly pointed out that the website, which is registered to a domain belonging to Kaplan, still showed the offer with no mention of an expiry date they finally caved and said I would qualify.

My second term consisted of a communication class, networking concepts, and "programming fundamentals for beginners." This term was like the kiss of death to Kaplan for me. Our "programming" class consisted of learning how to program in a 3D environment called Alice. While the program was admittedly fun it provided no working knowledge of any software used in a real work environment. When my brother, who has a Masters in Comp Sci and a bachelors in IT, saw this his response was literally "WTF?" "You will never use this in the real world." To add insult to injury the instructor was unable to share his screen with us so most of the work was trial and error. My communications class was even worse. A big part of the course credit for the classes is taking a one hour seminar each week. If you are unable to attend the class then you are to write a one page paper to prove that you watched it.

I had not missed any seminars to this point. After a couple of weeks into the term, however, I noticed that I was not receiving full credit for the seminars. When I questioned the instructor about this she blithely pointed out the syllabus stating that one had to make so many comments during the class in order to receive full credit. Every other professor would accomplish this by inserting random slides in the seminar that said something like "type in the number 83." This teacher didn't. My response to this was to tell her that I already had one class that ran long, thereby making me late for work, every week due to people treating the comments section like a chat room and that I thought it would be academically irresponsible for me to do the same. Her response was basically to tell me to pound sand, either type or don't get full credit.

The sad thing about that is that I did not attend one of her seminars the rest of the semester and achieved more points than the weeks that I actually attended.

My networking class was also a complete joke. Our instructor was very knowledgeable but would rarely share that knowledge. Our classes literally consisted of him copying the questions out of the syllabus and pasting them into a word document. That's is it. When asked questions he would reply to "ask in the virtual office" which translated into "ask your other students because my hour is done." Additionally many of the labs that were supposed to teach the subject matter either didn't work or left the viewer more confused than when they started.

My third term I was completely done with the bull. I had another class hosted by mister copy/paste as well as another networking class in which the labs didn't work. Our networking with TCP/IP class labs did not work about half of the time which required us to, again, figure it out on our own. Midway into week two I started filling out applications to more reputable schools. At this time I attempted to contact my "Academic Advisor" and what a nightmare that was. My first contact with the number they had listed directed my to the EAP line. My second call placed me with what was supposed to be the AA department. However when I gave them my name they could not find me in the system at all. After about an hour of them repeatedly asking me to just "look in the upper right hand corner of the page" and me repeating that "there was nothing there," they finally figured out that I had to call another campus to speak with my AA.

I finally did reach him and he went on and on about how much it was going to cost me if I stopped now and to just stick it out. After I hung up the phone with him I did not attend one more class. I was completely disenfranchised with the whole place. During that time I had either my AA or another advisor attempting to contact me on an almost daily basis. This irritated me even more. I would pick up my phone and think "If they would have tried that hard to teach me, I'd still be there!" Needless to say I did not pass the third term but in the meantime I was accepted to a much more reputable school. Imagine my surprise when I start getting emails again talking about the upcoming term from Kaplan! I contacted the AA again before the end of the first week and told him that I was done. All he could point out, again, was how much money this would cost me.

My response to that was to tell them to keep the 10% discount that I still HAD NOT SEEN along with my student loan disbursements that I... still had not seen in eight months of school, and leave me alone. I don't know about anyone else, but paying over five grand a term for less than thirty hours of instruction and nonfunctional labs is a waste of money. I now have almost ten grand in student loans and nothing to show for it. Oh well, I guess I could always sell my books to help a little. No, wait, I can't because I was charged full price for ebooks which takes even that option away. My advice, if you're looking to go back to school, is to find a nearby community college. If you must do online courses do your homework and choose classes from a reputable school.

I started attending Kaplan University as a transfer student. My expected graduation date was August 2014 however 3 semesters in I was told my federal student loans were tapped out. I received any notification or guidance from Kaplan University financial aid office. At the time I was able to get tuition assistance from my employer for weeks prior to start of the next semester. I submitted a form that Kaplan needed to fill out so I could submit to my employer before the deadline. Almost every day I was calling Kaplan to get this form filled out no response. It was just sitting in my document file unread. I missed the deadline, therefore I had to withdraw. I was hit with a $5000 bill. I finally paid it off after 3 years. So I decided I would go back to Kaplan in June 2016 prior to the start of the semester. I submitted all documents and kept trying to reach the financial aid office no response.

I need to know how much financial aid I was getting so I could make some provisions if I need to pay some out of pocket. No response. I live in Florida and I see on the website all the grants that Kaplan accepts from Florida. I apply for this grant. I meet the criteria. I was a full time student and I have a 3.4 GPA. I only need to have a 2.0 GPA. I called financial aid almost every other day to find out the status. Every time I called I was being told different stories that they did not participate in this particular grant program or they did participate. I could never get a straight answer. Finally, I called FL Dept of Ed who in fact told me that Kaplan does participate in this particular grant program because they are accepting funds. However, I am still being told by the financial aid office they do not participate in this grant program.

So once again I had to withdraw from school with 6 classes left to get my degree and a $5000 bill. They want to place me on a payment plan that does not fit my budget. SO I am thousands of dollars in debt and no degree. This school sucks, scam artist, they are selling people pipe dreams. Nobody in the financial aid office is knowledgeable. They just want the money. Their students do not matter to them.

But they took the payment and was gonna take every last dime of what I had left if I didn't call to make sure again I will have enough. They have taken advantage and they are doing nothing to help me get a degree but draw many loans under my name and I have no degree.

I enjoyed the presentations of the instructors of this program... All were motivating and professional. The problem was not with them but with the amount of material that was required to be mastered in 3 weeks. The program is 4 weeks but that fourth week is 3 days of review for the test, not instruction. Even with the required 100 plus pages of reading a night, online tests, and 6 hour classroom days, the subjects taught couldn't be fully comprehended nor was the majority of national material applicable to either of the two national portions of the state exam that I took!

I completed all coursework and true/false questions which were a guarantee of an 80-90 percent pass rate. The mathematical calculations weren't emphasized at all and we were told not to worry about that as the percent of those problems were very few... There were a number of scenarios on the tests but these weren't really discussed in class. We were told to do the 4 practice ones online. I failed the national portion by one point. I passed the state at a little over 80% which was a surprise. This was my weak area according to Kaplan's coursework testing... but I obviously studied or understood that material.

I retook the National portion 2 days later and passed with a score of a little over 80%. With the level of intensity of this program, and the fact that it was classroom instruction, I expected a higher level of comprehension. My evaluation of this program is that more time is definitely needed to truly understand the material and that Kaplan needs to re-evaluate their program as far as applicable studies to prepare students for the state exam. Having taken the test twice (national portion), I believe I know. I've learned something about real estate but expected more for the nearly $1000 program fee I paid. I could have learned more if instruction had been better presented and more streamlined with more time dedicated to each subject. Disappointing.

Why have discussion boards when you already have seminar??? The financial aid advisors have no clue as to what the hell they are doing or talking about. They are beating the students out the money that we are going to have to pay back. I was suckered into getting an associates degree in medical assisting when I could have gotten a certification in 9 to 12 months.

What a ripoff, and the classes really suck, still had to pay for cpr, 50 dollars for a background check they already had, a flu shot and tb shot just to pass a course on professionalism. Really! I should already know how to be professional on and off the job and what to wear to an interview. I would have had to pick my own dr offices to extern at which is really ridiculous as a school. I'm sure they could have done all of this, I was charged for my footwork. So I switched to psychology to obtain a bachelors instead and this is a true ripoff.

I now have classes that took for medical assisting and passed them in my psychology course. My class credits have went up to 6 credits as if they are not high priced enough. (1855-2226 per class) What a rip off. So I thought about finishing up my medical assisting and lo and behold they discontinued the class. So will those associates degree's in medical assisting hold any weight. So what I am going to do is transfer my credits to a school for medical assisting. I need to leave this made up university. He enrolled me up for classes. He never explained to me what kind of course it was and what I needed for the course. Now I am falling behind in class. She told me she was going to call me at 7 pm my time but never called me to help me with downloading software to my computer that I needed for class.

The point I am trying to make is nobody at Kaplan University the staff cares about your education and how much you put time and effort into your work on your own plus not really helpful resources that they have their own line. It's really pissing me off because most of the unit assignments have nothing to do with the seminars or discussions. What does not make sense to me is how could my educational adviser tell me I have to learn everything on my own. That does not make sense that just like me asking a question when I do not understand something and the instructor does not respond which that happens very often with this business.

It is this one teacher that I extremely hate because I feel like there is no way he has been teaching for twelve years! The course he is teaching is already complex but he making the course even harder. He does not make or set examples on the course. All he shows is a Rubric of each assignments like that is going to teach a whole lot and it is not. I been going to Kaplan since this April of this year. To be honest I hate Kaplan - wish I never enrolled myself in the college program because it is a very uncourteous, uncooperative and frustrating university.

When I first began my journey into my Master of Science in Criminal Justice program online everything was great, all the way to the completion of all my program courses. I did it all while taking care of my terminally ill mother at home full time. Well in Feb 2015 my mom passed and I took a leave for only 6 weeks because I did not want to get too far behind. I made it to the end with a 3.64 GPA, which I was proud of but also mentally exhausted. My next step was to take my Comp exam after a 3 week break. Well I did not realize how much of a mental break I needed until I was on that small break. The requirement for the exam was to write a minimum of 10 pages on 4 different topics in 3 weeks. Once into the exam I struggle with getting back into school mode. Needless to say I came in shy of my 10 page requirement, so I received a grade of failing.

Professor informed me that I had a second chance to take the exam. I needed to get scheduled through registration. I contacted registration and they scheduled me for the next exam that was in 3 more weeks. While waiting, I received an email from a re-enrollment counselor that says he was sorry to see me leave. I told him I have not left. I was scheduled to take the next exam in April. He informed me that the school dropped me for non attendance. I replied, "I was told I failed the exam and was scheduled to retake the exam". This again was where the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing at this school. Once I explain my situation, he says I needed to fill out a forms to re-enroll, pay $125 for it, $50 for another background check because mine expired and I also had to speak with financial aid because I had a $150 balance.

I took out a financial aid loans and I'm trying to figure out why do I have to pay the school $150 to take my exam that I was never told I had to do. After that the counselor calls me back and says I actually need to do an appeal because they actually dismissed me due to me failing the Comp exam. Apparently the rule changed and you now only have one chance to pass the exam but no one but the dean of the school knows this, not even the counselor!!!

So now I have to reapply for FASFA, pay for a new background check, a re-enrollment fee just to retake a darn exam!!! Then to add insult to injury, my counselor won't clear my appeal to be sent in because it's not written well enough and I need to include documentation for instance my mom's death certificate or he does not feel it will pass. I appreciate his guidance but I'm pissed I have to jump through all these hoops to take an exam!! Kaplan is now the worst school ever. I have completed my program courses and all I need to do is take my exam in order to get my degree but they are making it impossible. I have worked through too much not to receive my degree.

I am so burnt by this university in the same way that most of the students on this site. I started Kaplan in 2007 in hopes of finishing my bachelor's degree that I had started at the University of Alabama. Being a new mom and a non-traditional student Kaplan admission advisors did a good job baiting innocent students in started their degrees and getting into such "high paying" jobs. What BS! Then they sell you on their financial aid, why not? If only you would know how they will be scamming you pretty much in your last term, you would NEVER sign up for this school.

Long story short, I started my Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and every time I had a change in concentration i.e. from Forensic Psych to Juvenile Justice, they gave me a new degree plan adding a couple of extra USELESS courses just to get their money. They added a new program called International and Comparative Criminal Justice which of course in my mind was a great degree considering the current situation in this country. Sure enough, I changed my program but did not need to change classes. Instead of having my courses transfer over they gave me YET a new degree plan and ADDED courses I DID NOT NEED TO TAKE!! Anytime I wanted a class it was 'conveniently' not offered in that term and since I was a full time FINAID student, I couldn't sit the term out and ended up taking classes I did NOT need.

Sure enough, my last term I log in to class only to find out that I was blocked out due to a STUDENT BALANCE... Are you kidding me??? A freaking balance? For what?? Every time I call they transferred me to yet another CLUELESS advisor. I NEVER got an explanation of charges and was NEVER told of any out of pocket expense... Heck I was not even told as a FIRST TIME financial aid student that I had a certain amount allotted towards my bachelors degree. What kind of ADVISING is that? I feel sorry for so many other students including the current ones. Please DO NOT GET FOOLED. Kaplan is a big SCAM!!! Now they won't release my official transcripts and have a hold on my account? What a joke!

I informed him of the FTC and TSR laws regarding identify himself as ** and the company. He laughed and practically stated I did not know any laws and stated that he would love to see me in court for he can laugh at me. He kept stating he was looking for someone and I informed him this was my number. He said it did not matter that he is looking for someone. This went on as he continued to mock me until I hung up. 1601 SW 80th Terrace plantation FL 33324.

I have read a few of the reviews left by others and I must agree. Kaplan University has to be the worst online school out there when it comes to issuing refunds and communication. I have been attending this school for a little over a year and every term there is a problem with my refund. And when you try to speak with them they give you standard answer never truly helping you. I live one city away for where the checks are mailed from and I have been waiting over 2 weeks for a check, was clear sent to the incorrect address yet again. There is one person receiving for these types of issues and she lacks understanding, they never gives update or set expectation. Some terms they say they're doing updates to help FAFSA process move along quicker, it seems to make things go slower each time.

And my FAFSA went up this year so they raise the cost of my classes. Seems like something is not right with that. The professors are great but when it comes to the school itself, the staff you have to communicate with is unable to express empathy for the students. I have two friends that attends Kaplan also and they have the same problems. And the bad part is the person handling your check can only be reached by email. I sent this lady like 10 emails simply asking for next step and expectations. She took 3 days to reply. And she still didn't answer my questions. My boyfriend said it was the same way back in 2010 when he attended Kaplan. If you are thinking about attending Kaplan please don't even if you can pay for school. They are very incompetent when it comes to assisting their students.

I am DISGUSTED by the experience I have had with Kaplan University's financial aid department. First things first... When trying to contact Kaplan about your financial aid and why it hasn't posted within the 14 day time period that it must legally be posted, you will not get a response. Also, when you contact them asking why a stipend has not been sent within the 14 calendar days that they must legally send the stipend... Again, you will not get a response.

Now for the straw that broke the camel's back. There was a pell disbursement that was posted to the wrong term. I then received a refund check for double what I should have. I NEVER received any sort of notification, communication, NOTHING stating that they made a mistake on their end. The next thing I know, I receive a bill in the mail stating that I owe $1,033 or my account will be blocked from my courses.

I then called and sent numerous emails to FA to find out what I could do to fix it and bring my account back up to date. I was more than willing to set up a payment plan... I get it, mistakes are made, let's move on. NO RESPONSE. Then, a month later, I receive a final notice. My account has been blocked. Still no response from the numerous attempts to figure out how to fix my account. My next term was coming up quickly so I set up an automatic WEEKLY payment to withdraw from my checking account so that they could see that I am at least Making an effort to pay back for their mistake. That didn't go over, at all.

I finally called Kaplan again to find out exactly what I had to do since nobody was returning my calls, and my account was completely blocked. After talking to an FA representative, I was told that I had to make a minimum payment of $800 in 2 days in order to unlock my account. ARE YOU JOKING ME!?! So I'm getting screwed because you made a mistake and overpaid me!? Without ANY notification whatsoever!?!

Now here is the kicker... I have now enrolled in a new school and was supposed to start this week. This new school requested that a worksheet be filled out stating that I am withdrawn from Kaplan and my funds have been cancelled so that I am not awarded for 2 schools. Kaplans response? "They don't do clearance letters for loans". Excuse me??? You can't confirm that my loans are cancelled after I withdrew from your school? I have 6 years of experience in financial aid. I am fully aware of the R2T4 process and I am fully aware of what can and cannot be released to students. Kaplan is nothing but a joke.

Originally, I started off with Colorado Technical University which seemed to be a great school. I never had an issue for the year and a half that I was with them. The issue started shortly after I transferred to Kaplan. I originally started off with the Bachelor of Science program with a focus in Human Resources Management. Everything went fine for the first year. Just last year, I had to take an emergency leave because my wife was out in the hospital and all my focus needed to be on helping her recover, but also taking care of my kids at the same time. I have two toddlers, one 3-year-old and one 2-year-old, so they definitely require a lot of attention. I was advised that while I am able to take this leave of absence that my degree program would no longer be available upon my return. This was troubling, but priorities first.

I returned and was assigned to a new adviser who also reaffirmed the same. I spent the next year taking management courses towards a general Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with no focus. I am 153/180 credits into my degree program and being told that the only way I would be able to gain a focus on my degree program would be to take a post-baccalaureate certification directly after for Human Resources Management. I took this advice and continued my degree program. I personally had a medical emergency about a year later and had to withdraw from my degree once more for a little bit of time to recover. When I came back in, I was given the same adviser, however she shortly thereafter left Kaplan and gave me the contact information for another adviser whom would be taking over. At this time, I had not yet had communication with her.

I was using the Post 9/11 GI Bill from the VA to fund my education throughout this entire experience. Kaplan would not even try to bill the VA prior to the 6th week each and every time. Sometimes we were looking at the 8th week before I would receive confirmation from the VA that Kaplan had billed them. At the same time, I had applied for Federal Financial Assistance (FAFSA) in order to help with the costs of going to school. Kaplan would literally hold my stipend hostage until the VA paid for my semester, so it wasn't until up to the end of the semester or after during my 1-2 weeks before the next semester before I would finally receive my stipends (if I actually received them). Most times, I had to call in and try to micromanage the stipend team because we are only given just their email address "schecks@kaplan.edu" and no other form of contact. You cannot call them; nobody inside can transfer you to them.

If you request a supervisor call, you will never get an answer. If you get an answer at all, usually it is just 3-4 words stating "check will be sent..." without a signature which is extremely unprofessional at best. I actually went a time-span of 8 months before I was issued both my current stipend as well as previous stipend due to a "glitch" in the system. However, I wasn't told this by the Stipend team. I literally had to file a report with the Better Business Bureau before Kaplan finally took notice to the issue. I was contacted by the Student Relations team who was able to get in contact with the Stipend team and get the issue sorted out. I was paid for the current period as well as back pay for the previous periods that I had missed payment. Ridiculous it took that much effort to get something that should have already been sent to me.

Don't get me started on the 1098-T Tax Team. They are nothing short of a hot mess as well. For both 2013-2014 I received 2 of these tax forms to file on my normal taxes each year. I didn't receive one for 2015. We are only provided with an 800 number to reach them which goes directly to a voicemail to which they may respond up to 2-3 weeks later. So, good luck to all of you trying to do your taxes. I noticed this issue 3 weeks after the deadline was to send out W2's, etc. When I contacted them by email at 1098t@khec.com, I was advised one wasn't generated for me. I then proceeded to ask why and they stated that all my income was considered grants/scholarships. This kind of made sense to me as the VA was covering me 100% for school, but I wanted to find out when this had changed and why I had received ones for previous years.

I got told that I was never sent one. I responded back "Really, then why did I receive this?" and added an attachment of my 2014 1098-T form that I had scanned into my computer. They didn't respond back to that. I ended up contacting Financial Aid and let them know the situation and that I wasn't getting anywhere, especially after requesting that a manager/supervisor call me from that team as the person that I was talking to didn't seem to understand that I wanted to know why it was no longer being sent to me. She told me that I would need to call the 800 number. I told her that I already tried that and they didn't contact me back. She told me that she would bring me on the line with them. Now, you would think that by this phrase that she would be transferring me somewhere internal so I could get this issue resolved, wrong! She sent me to the 800 number. Furious, I hung up and called them directly back and filed a complaint against her.

The next person was able to provide me with another email that ended in the standard "@kaplan.edu" address and not "@khec.com". They provided me with one through email, however offered no explanation. I finally gave up and contacted my tax adviser and was told that this was something that changed for 2015 only and she provided with a link to an article on the IRS site that I had not previously found before which explained everything. I finally got a call about mid-week (2nd week after leaving voicemail with 1098-T Tax Team) that also explained the change after I already had the information. Just unbelievable, but should I expect something different from Kaplan?

I just withdrew again, but it wasn't for any emergency. I am done with this school and how I have been treated the entire time of attendance. There were multiple reasons for this. First off, there is only one professor that was teaching one of my courses in business (not going to mention names here), that could not relate what he was teaching to that of the case study assignments. Normally, other universities have other professors available that you can transfer into their class in order to better match the students to in order to optimize their learning experience (as somebody else may have taught it better). Wrong! This guy was the only one that was teaching this course online. So, it was a matter of me spending enormous amounts of time learning the material "on my own" instead of from him. What am I paying this school for again exactly?

Second issue was that I was lied to about my degree program having been discontinued. Yes, that's right, the Bachelor of Business Administration focusing in Human Resources Management according to the adviser that processed my withdrawal from the university. The program never went away. So, wait. You mean that I just spent a year on management courses that would have been unnecessary to take had I just been reinstated into the program? So, do the courses that I just took transfer over if I were to return to my original program? Of course they don't. I would be set back almost 40 credits in order to return to it. So, my original adviser lied to me about the program having been discontinued. That's grand. Does your school understand how the GI Bill benefits work? You just wasted my time and available benefits to have me learn something completely unrelated to my original degree.

Finally, the last two reasons are the Stipend team and the 1098-T Tax Team. I have never met two teams that were so disorganized as much as both of these were. Nobody could provide me with an explanation for my missing stipends and I would always have to micromanage this team to ensure that they would get sent to me (otherwise as shown 3-4 times previously, they would hold it indefinitely on my account). Also, please for crying out loud when I am asking for more information regarding a change such as that of the 1098-T form, please just provide me an explanation or find somebody that could. I literally sent 16 emails to your team and tried calling before I gave up. What am I paying your school for again?

Overall, the experience was horrible and your money would be well worth spent elsewhere. If everything that I just wrote above doesn't turn you away, this may be your pick of a school. Apparently, wasting money is what they are best at doing. I will be reporting this school to the VA as having done this. Maybe they will recover money, maybe not. But, if you would like to maintain your sanity between Financial Aid, FAFSA and the Stipend team, and the Tax team, I would recommend looking elsewhere. I probably won't be returning to school as my benefits are expiring and I would have to start a Student Loan to finish. Thank you for that Kaplan! I don't write this to be defamatory to the school. I write this to tell you all the truth of what happened to me. The rest is up to you if you would like to take that risk. Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy review.

Everything was perfectly fine at the beginning. Never had a problem with Kaplan University until recently that I'm a term away from Graduation. I now realize that I am not the only student who has been having problems with them. I was told that I would graduate on July 2016. Then I'm told that it has been extended to October because I was a credit short. I always kept constant communication with my academic advisor but was never informed that I would be a credit short. At all times she informs to me that I would graduate in July. But whatever... I get over it and take on another course to complete the required credits.

Then afterwards, they tell me that one of the courses that I took years ago in another university wasn't transferable when in fact, I was told all my credits transferred. So they wanted me to take on another term just for this one course. But it doesn't end there... Now I'm being informed that I have to $1,300 for this current term or else they would place a block on my courses. This is just absurd! Kaplan University is shady and completely unprofessional. I would not recommend this school to anyone. All Kaplan does is mistreat students for their money. They do not care for our education or future, we are simply but a bad investment to them.

I wish I had read these reviews about Kaplan before because I truly thought I was the only person frustrated with them. Each term it takes a minimum of 6 weeks into the term before any form of funding is applied to my account. The "reasons" I am given vary each time and they never run out of excuses. It is so distracting and stressful to have to worry each term if the funds are going to be applied correctly or not.

The stipend is never mailed out in a timely manner, I always have to call to get the ball rolling. I have one more class left after this term and I found out that they are not accredited according to ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) there for I am unable to be state certified in my field of study. I spent so much money at this "College" and I can't even use the degree to reach my career goals.

In addition to this travesty they don't even require basic classes that I would need as prerequisites to further my education at a College that is accredited for the Nutrition Science Degree. I only discovered all of this last term when I was getting my ducks in a row to job search and decide if a Master Degree is what I want next. Now I have to basically start from scratch at another college or give up my dream while now in debt thanks to these "knowledgeable" individuals working at Kaplan. I would seriously do your research before choosing any College and I would NOT recommend Kaplan. The convenience factor behind working, raising a family and getting a degree at the same time is why I went with them and I am now embarrassed to have wasted my time, money and effort here.

I filled out the grievance form... only to find out that was for if you have a complaint about a professor or their staff (LOL). So I left that alone. Now this term I told my Education Adviser that I was homeless and I could only get on the internet to do the seminars and my assignments would be late. He was OK with it, then he calls me and says the Dean wants to switch my classes around.

He puts me in 2 classes that requires a LOT of internet access. Right now I am failing and unsure what to do. I read the terms and conditions, and I believe I'm at a 50/50 chance of being dropped from Kaplan all because of a stupid ** education adviser who should have never put me in those classes. Kaplan University mismanaged my Federal Student loan. I enrolled as a student at Kaplan University (KU) mid 2012 with promises that I had enough funding up until I graduate. However, I received notification two terms prior to December 1, 2015 that I will reach my limit of funding from FAFSA as an undergraduate of $60k. I received an email stating that I will need an estimated of $22k for the next three terms which includes room/board, transportation, computer, personal, and banking fees. In KU terms these charges are called indirect fees.

I questioned the fees due to being an online student and I received a reply, via email stating that I was charged direct fees. I spoke with my lawyer after I compared my statements from FAFSA (Nelnet) and my ledger from the web portal of KU. The charges that we debited from FAFSA and my expenses from KU was not adding up (I am also a certified public accountant).

I was advised by my lawyer to request an official ledger from KU. I sent an email on Monday, November 16, 2015 requesting a ledger expecting a reply within forty-eight hours. However I received an email today, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 stating to go online. I called KU Financial Aid Department at (866) 458-2008 and spoke to Marcey. She stated that I need to email ledgercard@KU.edu and request for an official ledger. I was upset because I received an email eight days later with the incorrect information. I am getting the runaround for a simple request.

This is not the first issue that I had with KU. I claimed bankruptcy in 2014 and I had to contact my bankruptcy lawyer due to KU refusing to write off a balance. I contacted the Better Business Bureau (Complaint Case Number **) and there were no solution (although they told me to call the financial aid number for a resolution). After three days of being on hold for over an hour; there was not resolution. Currently I sent the proper paperwork to be on a payment plan. However I was told that I was denied due to claiming bankruptcy!

Since I am not able to make a FULL payment to the school, I am not able to (ironically) receive my official transcript. I called Kaplan (after several harassment calls and emails) and was told that they did not receive my denial letter from Sallie Mae nor my application. The funny thing was that I saw the paperwork scanned in KU's web portal. Today (March 29, 2016) I was told that I was denied because I claim bankruptcy.

Bottom line: I would like know EXACTLY where my FAFSA funding went to and be refunded as well as a transcript to forward to my lawyer and accountant. I was told to go online for an official transcript but I was told from different officials as local universities in Colorado that Kaplan should and am suppose to honor my request. I have worked very hard the past three years to achieve a bachelor degree: but to no avail I am not able to graduate due to "fraudulent" financial activates from this for profit organization.

I told them put it in my account. According to them I received two checks for the amount of $1126 and $131. I never received anything. Once I found out within two weeks, I let them know that I never received anything. They told me that I did and that I have cashed them out. So I asked for a copy of the checks if they had it because I did not have anything at the moment.

They did send me both copies. When I saw them and looked at the signatures I realized that somebody has cashed them out and it look like signature but it wasn't. I took it to the police and they gave a copy of the report. I spoke to someone in Kaplan. They told me to send it over and they will do the rest. I did send it and I also kept on calling and emailing them to find out what was going on. NOBODY GAVE ME AN ANSWER. I had attended Kaplan University. Unfortunately I believed everything I was told. They are accredited and my credits will be accepted anywhere. I received my bachelor's in paralegal studies and decided to get my masters degree with AOM coercion. All of this was online. I have quite a bit of student loans but was assured as long as I am in school I am fine and the loans covers everything. Needless to say I was a bit too trusting and never check disbursements or anything like that.

Towards the end I change a class but was reassured everything was covered and I would owe nothing in the end and that I qualify for graduation. Now I cannot remember everything due to a very tragic accident (severe head injury and multiple broken bones). After a long recovery (three years later still recovering and now disabled) I was receiving calls and mail about my student loans and a large personal school loan. I asked financial aid about this and that is when I saw the disbursement page which they directed me to.

I had to have help from someone outside of financial aid but long story short I not only owed for the loans but for a loan from them. They said the loans did not cover everything. That is not what I saw (what I saw was everything was covered) but when I had someone look at it later some things were changed. I spoke to one of the loan people and they said because I changed one of my classes for a different one I had to pay out of pocket. Good grief the class should not have been that much.

I spoke to someone that had one of my school loans and they told me about some kind of forgiveness program for disabled persons. I filled it out with all my doctors notes stating I am disabled and pics of car from accident and hospital. My loans were forgiven. Tax time comes and now I owe taxes. Comes to show all the loans and the school loans are taxable. Hello, I do not work. Kaplan was so not what they claim to be and people disabled are not protect in this area.

The funding I use with the Post 9/11 GI Bill was sent to them only after I called to make sure the request was sent to the Department of VA education. The funds were sent out days before the email was sent and I have confirmation that they received it. The financial aid department is still telling me that they cannot do anything to the upgrade that was finished in December. This school is not a school I would have enrolled into if I knew that I would only be throwing money at it for nothing in return.

This is now about my 3rd time contact Kaplan regarding my financial aid. Here the response for the representative as of today, 1.20.16. "There are processing delays due to an update to our system. Our processing team has been working to resolve the issue so that funds can be received but it has not been resolved yet. We apologize for the delay. The funds should be received soon but I do not have an exact time frame." I've been told the same thing each time I call. I will be reporting them to the Department of Education. This is unacceptable. I am very disappointed in Kaplan. It's time to search for another school.

I'm glad to know that everything that I did for this school, Kaplan University didn't get me anywhere in my state of CT. Their associates degree credits which is 90 altogether found out all of these classes I did for early childhood development turned into a very bad experience for me. Now I'm trying to fix this mess up in another school. They said that all of the classes have no content that is usable for the teaching degree. No one told me that this school actually wasn't going to get me anywhere. I wasted a lot of my student loans hoping to fix this but I suggest people to look at the reviews and decide for yourself if this is something that you would get yourself into. I'm glad for the success stories but I got to say I have none, since the associates degree I have will mean absolutely crap. I'm mad.

I am 56 years old and am embarrassed that I have let myself get into this situation. My only hope is the lawsuit against Kaplan University is going to be of help. For all I know this might be another organization trying to take advantage of low income individuals. My most obvious discovery of the misinformation told to me by Kaplan was after I was given an amount awarded by financial aid of around 15,000 it was changed to a little over 10,000 just before I was told my stipend check was being sent. This makes no sense, and when I called to question this I was given three different answers by three different employees. I hope everyone seeking help finds it.

I was attending Kaplan University online. During my second semester I decided to drop a class; before the deadline of course. I asked the financial aid department if my Financial Aid would cover the class I wanted to add, I was told yes. I explained that I don't have money to pay out of pocket for classes and only wanted to drop the one class and pick up another. Yet again I was told financial aid is covering the class I picked up.

A week later I received a bill for almost $1200.00. When I called to find out why I received a bill I was told "financial aid did not cover the class." I told them when I called to drop one class and pick up the other, I was told that I was not going to pay any money out of pocket and financial aid would pay for the class. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told by the supervisor they were not going to pull the call and that I still owe the money to the university. As a result I cannot get my transcripts to transfer to another school until the debt is paid. Kaplan University is all about the money and they do prey upon people so that they can scam money out of them. I will not just lay down and take this, I will be seeking legal advice!!!

Dec 23rd, 2015 for disbursement, not Jan 5, 2016, and check was mailed on Jan 7, 2016. Still nothing in my mailbox. Kaplan needs to have financial aid checks done prior to a major winter break time not after the fact. I have a printed schedule of when mine are suppose to go out. They have failed. People have bills and things to do, but to be screwed is bad judgement on their behalf. I am going to do 1 more semester then I am going to transfer my credits to a real college that at least offers direct deposit for financial aid.

I attended Kaplan on three different occasions. The first time I had to leave due to personal reasons and had only completed 1/2 of black mod. The second time I returned I was having financial issues and was switched to evening classes and I was in class one night and received a note stating I needed to see financial aid. Upon seeing financial aid I was suspended for nonpayment. Remind you I was finished with all of my classes but I had to retake 2 of my classes because I was suspended the second week of green mod. So I didn't bother to return after my suspension. I received a phone call from the school asking me to return. They wanted me to complete my classes and do my externship. So I went to talk to them. I was told that I could do my retakes and my externship and graduate.

I was excited and started my classes immediately the next day. Before starting I explained that I work in childcare and we operate according to school attendance so there will be days that I will have to work when regular school for the kids are out. They said "that's fine." Ok so I finish my green mod expecting a fairly decent grade because I stayed on top of my work and attended as much as possible and communicated with administration if I was out for whatever reason. When I got my grade it wasn't what I expected and I wasn't credited for assignments that I knew and had proof of doing. So I had red mod which was created for me to attend during the day. Knowing this was my last module. I started talking to externship coordinator. She states "you are not even in the system to do anything. So I will have to talk to education dept. to see what's going on." She never got back to me so I went to her and still I wasn't in the system.

When I completed my red and passed the class I get a phone call saying that I won't be able to return to do my externship because I exceeded the allotted time to attend. They did receive my financial aid money for the time I was there but I walked away with nothing but disappointment and wasted time. I'm sure they already knew that I wasn't going to do my externship before they even called me. I would not recommend anyone to attend this school because there is no real guarantee that you are going to achieve your goals. I was told that they would do what they can to get me into another medical school which means I would have to start all over again. After all of my hard work to finish I still walked away with nothing... smh... It's so discouraging.

I could have been doing other things besides going there to achieve nothing. All I kept hearing from them was "you have been here more than one time and every time you had something going on so you didn't meet the requirements and you were on academic probation so there's not much we can do" and I haven't heard anything else from them. I contacted financial aid and never received any calls back. I wanted to know what needed to do about my financial aid money that they were receiving since I didn't do my externship but never got a call back. Kaplan was very unprofessional in how they conducted business and communicating with honesty.

If I was told upfront honestly about the possibility of walking away with nothing, I never would have wasted my time. When I left the second time due to being suspended my gpa was 2.9. When I returned I was told it was a 1.9 which also had me questioning, how? To me Kaplan is all about money. They could care less about the students. One of the instructors there always made comments about the black girls and imitate the way she views them, the way she talked (ghetto) and I felt that was very unprofessional of her.

I have heard it all, from "They needed to verify my scholarship" (nope, already was approved), to deadlines via the federal government demand a 30 day waiting period. The latest seems to be a lot more accurate, but in no way shape or form seems legal. Federal guidelines state stipends must be delivered within a timely manner. Mine is an academic scholarship, so it may differ legally.

I graduated 12/1/2015, should have had my remaining balance second or third week of December. I have received my diploma, yet no money in sight. A man named Brandon spoke with me on 1/5, he said "Their computer system that posts the scholarships is down, it has been down since November 9, 2015. They are working to get it up, but they have no estimated time for repair." I am sorry, but this should not be the students problem, nor should I have received 6 previous versions of an excuse to get me off the phone. Lying to people is unethical, if this had happened in my previous term I would have transferred elsewhere. I only given them two stars because my teachers there were actually pretty great people. I was laid off during this time and of course I wanted to make life better and clicking on an ad landed a phone call within 5 minutes. I checked it out and was able to get enrolled without much up front, yes I was told that being an accelerated school, it would be a little more expensive. Really? Expensive? Double the cost of the local community college and I think I would've learned a lot more.

YES KAPLAN Preyed on me when times were bad. I got an AS, but how good is it? HAHA! I landed my first IT job with my interview skills and attitude, not to mention I didn't dress like I was going back to a factory. I was a single Dad when I started all this, now $50K in debt. I'm a veteran and I feel like I really got taken. SO, if there is any validity to the investigation, please let me know so I can file an official complaint with the US OIG. I honestly believe that a poor teacher should not be hired, but fired. If an educator indirectly ignores a student or refuses to answer a student then she has a problem - a serious issue. I find that she is very disoriented and careless. How is it possible for a comment to be made in this fashion without directly addressing the person: In terms of "empty questions" I think the author is referring to the times that students may participate by asking questions that are (a) already answered somewhere (syllabus) or (b) surface level questions that can be answered by flipping to an index, locating a page number, and jotting down the answer.

Can you believe this? This is supposed to be a very prestigious university and this is the indirect that is given to a student about another student which is me. I think it is extremely insensitive. I will call her an instructor because a professor doesn't behave as such. They are so much more and she is not in any way a professor. A title means absolutely nothing to a person who doesn't know how to give it the substance it merits. I will never disregard my students and/or clients like this. It's an embarrassment for the college and to the field of psychology.

I am really ashamed for the college. I cannot understand how schools are hiring people because of the titles they carry and are not considering the way they mistreat students or ostracized them. We criticize school shooters, but we are not considering what made them snap. It is an instructor like mine that will make a person snap. How effective is an instructor who talks about nonsense during a seminar and then forgets to give an overview of the unit that follows for the week? How is this effective? How is she able to assess our work when she fails to meet her own duties as an educator.

I have years of experience in teaching and I can identify poor teaching. This is it. I am afraid that this isn't the end either. After Kaplan, I will be enrolling into a real college... a community college. If I can study online, then great. This is sheer ridiculousness. I asked a question several days ago and I still haven't received the answer because the instructor feels they are stupid questions or as she put "empty questions". Well let's see what happens when she is slapped with a lawsuit for mistreating a disabled person. I am losing hope in education because the educators of today have lost the essence of the discipline. So after going from link to link, I ended up here reading reviews. I can understand if people had problems with billing or customer service as I have worked for companies that have had the same complaints. Basically what I see is that people are more likely to complain about a bad experience than report a good one. I have not had any problems with my financial aid or getting charged for things I should not be. It is all broken down under the account section showing the amount for each class and the financial aid disbursements as well as whether a balance is owed or an overpayment refund is due. I have called and been able to speak to an advisor or financial aid immediately and the last advisor I spoke with went above and beyond to help me.

If I have emailed, it has taken 48 hours at the latest to receive a response. I would say all of my instructors have had our best interest at heart and have always given suggestions on how to further yourself in your career. An example would be directing us to national sites for certifications (note: these are sites that are not related to them such as www.americanpayroll.org or aicpa.org). Some instructors are tougher than others, but you will have that in any school setting. As far as the pushiness to enroll - I had explored other online universities and I felt less pressured by Kaplan than some of the others. This is a reason I chose them as well as doing research for the top online accounting degree programs and price comparison of courses offered at these universities. I made a mistake when I was 19 and decided to go to Kaplan even though it was not really recognized as a actual school by employers. First let me tell you off by saying the counselors will tell you anything to get you to go that Kaplan because they also profit off it too. Anyways to the real issue. I was getting overcharged fees I didn't even know where they were coming from. I paid it off anyways because I am a fool. I was charged 2,500 for a class I didn't even take and I still had to pay it off.

Either way I finished the course. They never helped me search for a job like they promised they would. I can't get no job with my degree and I am 40,000 in debt. People save your money! It's only a scam. They pick on everyone including single mothers. It's sad but it's a business to pick on naive people!!! All these profit schools we need to put out of business so they can stop screwing people over.

Let's start off by saying that if I could I wouldn't even give them one star. I started at Kaplan in 2012 and everything was great. I made the dean's list many terms and was getting excellent grades. This would have been my last term and I unexpectedly had to go to a different state due to a family emergency. While I was there I was not able to log on to my classes. When I returned home and was able to have internet service I received an email stating that I was un-enrolled due to attendance. I understood that but my issue is that now they are charging me over $3000 for a class that they received money for already. They will not even let me re-enroll until the balance is paid. I told them that I am not going to pay this because they have already received money for the class and that this needs to be taken care of.

I called a few days later and still have gotten nowhere. I then decided that I would just cut ties and go to a different school. They will not even release official transcripts to the new school because this account has a balance on it! Their financial department is horrible and cannot keep their accounting straight to see that this was paid for and are charging again! Now I have paid out all this money for nothing! I will have to start all over again or pay them yet another $3000! Do not go to Kaplan. They are a scam!

Yes this was the first year that they have got behind on getting our accounts right. You're paying for online school, it's not going to be cheap guys. I'm going to start TSTC in spring semester of 2016 and yes, Texas State Technical College is way cheaper than online. I'm reading bad comments about the professors at Kaplan University. The teachers know what they are doing. This is a accredited college. Before talking bad about the school, take a trip to a campus and see how it is. I live in Texas so the nearest campus is about 8 to 10 hours from me.

I have attended this school since OCT 2013. There have been many things said on here that are correct about the school that I thought were anomalies. The two biggest and most accurate are about the financial aid department and how these individuals will enroll anyone. I will dispute slightly (about one 1.5 stars worth out of 5) that the people here at the school have poor communication skills. They will get back with you, but it is really on their own time line and the situation may be too late to deal with.

I would like to say this college is "cheaper" than other online programs but I do not feel this is true anymore with larger institutions (like Arizona State University [ASU] and others) starting online programs. Their FA department cannot keep dollar amounts straight to save their life, they have over paid me from their mistakes as well as under paid. The will jack with your student loans like crazy because they themselves cannot keep track of what is going on.

Most recently, I submitted a grade appeal because I was marked wrong on something I did right. I have evidence, I provided sources and confirmed it with other instructors from other institutions who work in the same field. Despite this they still did not agree to change the grade on the paper, I passed the class regardless but that is not the issue. They are teaching the wrong information to people. It could go beyond this class itself however, because I am learning most things for the first time (unlike in the other class I found the error in) it is un-telling how many other classes are doing this. This mistake was something that would matter in real world application as well which is even more unnerving.

During the appeals process I was given a bunch of cookie cutter (literally copy and paste, just change the name) answers and only a few days to generate a response when they took weeks to get back to me. I requested the information they used to support their claims to no avail. I even requested to be called and or emailed individually for the problem the school claiming this could not be done. They call me when they want money, but now mysteriously they do not own a phone.

Also of note, they only allow you to take two classes at a time, which is fine 3 is a work load trust me, but the catch is it is only 3/4 time until you get into the 300 level courses and above. Making any 4 year program take even longer. You better be able to transfer in all of your electives as well or it will be even longer, it's not part of their 4 year plan. They are trying to keep you there as long as possible to get as much money from you as they can. As noted above I started in OCT 2013, I am scheduled to graduate in FEB 2017, with nearly all of my credits transfer filling the required electives in and I only had to take one class. If you are considering this school please DO NOT attend, you will be as disappointed or even more so only a short time into your program. If you choose to attend despite this advice, I wish you the best of luck in climbing that mountain of grief.

I made the grave mistake of working for Kraplan UK briefly. At the time Kraplan, with its very debatable background, were desperate to demonstrate how squeaky clean it had become, by issuing new guidelines on bribery and corruption. In conversation I pointed out that corruption existed around the world - a sad but undeniable truth. Three months later I was hauled into HR and accused of bribery and corruption! This despite the fact that I had no access to company money, credit cards or funds of any sort. A clique of friends around the CEO - let's call them company apparatchik who disliked the idea of my being active and wanting to achieve things (it rocked their cosy quiet boat) - had falsified statements against me e.g. I had bribed the Indian Government with $600 and had a huge slush fund at my disposal. Complete garbage as they were forced to acknowledge despite wanting to get something - anything - on me.

Subsequent investigations by HR and legal teams completely cleared me i.e. no bribery and no intention to bribe. But the CEO fired me 'just in case'. This same CEO heard my appeal (on his own - with no independent arbiter - because "this is Kaplan") and completely ignored every word I stated, simply repeating the mantra "Why would they say it, why would they say it." In other words this cowardly CEO wanted to make an example of me to his bosses in the USA. Kaplan respect nothing and no one - they do not respect democracy, free speech, human rights or anything else. As others have said they are only interested in getting your money - they don't give a fig for you or your future, what they do to you or what it leads to. A loathsome organisation - avoid them at all costs.

While going through a file folder at home, I came across some paperwork from Kaplan. I logged online to do a quick comparison of my loans and the Kaplan documents I came across. The numbers weren't adding up, so I called my loan service provider, and sure enough I was being over changed. I called Kaplan and spoke with a very rude gentleman in the FA department. Turns out I am being charged for a class that I NEVER took. After I withdrew from a class at Kaplan, they re-registered me for the same course without my consent. The rep I spoke with claims that they sent the FA money I received back to my loan service provider, but clearly they didn't. The course cost a total of $2400- since I had no clue I was re-enrolled in this class, I was also unaware that Kaplan was charging me for this. They did not reach out to me once to collect the money, they just sent it over to a collection agency.

At this point I am not sure what to do or where to turn, but I am absolutely irate! Does anyone have any suggestions, or ideas on how to proceed with this? I spent over 5 hours on the phone with Kaplan, Dept of Education and comparing documents. I am fed up!! While I was in school back in 2010 I also came across some issues. I thought it was really strange that the adviser I spoke with was able to approve/enroll/register me into a MS program without any documentation. I was told to get my transcripts and tax info in ASAP but I was already enrolled in the program. The FA did not answer any questions at all, they were all rude and in my opinion, very unprofessional and uneducated.

It took forever to get any kind of responses from anyone - instructors included. The instructors I had were very unengaged and did not participate in online discussions at all. I paid a lot of money to teach myself! I ended up only taking one full class- the second class I dropped three weeks into it but still charged the full price. I am paying over $10,000 for ONE class that would not transfer to any other institution. Enrolling in this institution was clearly a huge mistake. If you are considering Kaplan, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. It is nothing but a scam!

Great, until I had health issues a botched surgery to be specific, and requested to take a break from classes, which they told me I could not. Really? I'm a grown woman not in public elementary or high school. Needless to say my grades dropped and then I wasn't eligible for the scholarship anymore and after 3 sets of classes accrued a $687 bill. Well like I said, I don't have any money over my bills so I got kicked out with 4 classes to go.

Okay fast forward to January 2015 and I get my income tax and promptly pay the debt and excitedly resume classes. First set of 2 courses they now tell me I've maxed out my loan amounts and now owe over $1500 dollars or I will kicked out again. Seriously? Is this how they avoid having to place people after graduation? Billing people in this way puts the failure on the student instead of Kaplan. I don't know how, but I will complete this course, while looking for a position that makes more money, and when I do graduate, will be taking my Masters degree to a reputable institution who will better explain what is truly expected of you before you get in for thousands of dollars.

I became a graduate student with Kaplan in the fall 2014. Not one department ever gave me the right direction, nor the correct guidance during my entire experience, leading me to withdrawal in Jan 2015. The financial aid, student accounts, and student services departments were completely unreliable and not one thing I was told was correct. Example # 1 - You are told you will receive your financial aid deposit within two weeks of the university receiving the funds. I did not get mine until the class was nearly over (6 week long class).

Example # 2 - I would make student payments with my credit card on their website. On 4/13/2015, I made a payment for the balance remaining and they doubled it! $281.57 hit my credit card twice and "We don't know how that is possible... You must have made the payment twice". No I didn't! I only clicked pay one time for the balance due on one day. The second charge was two days after the first one. I didn't log in two days later and make a second payment on a balance of -0-! Example # 3 - The "teaching" was non-existent. My Professors would assign us to read, give us work to do, give a deadline, but there is absolutely no live instruction via internet or videos, etc. - nothing! And when you are taking advanced accounting courses, there really should be some sort of 'teaching' occurring. I don't feel that I need to pay $1750 per class to be 'self-taught'.

Example # 4 - Same class - accounting. When I would email the professor questions on the course material, his responses were sarcastic, short, and no help whatsoever. He made it very clear that I was bothering him. I called the help line to complain and was told that I would have to submit my complaints after the course was over, through the survey. Seriously!?!? How does that help me now?? Example #5 - When I was trying to get answers on how the financial aid worked/disbursement, etc. I called the help number 4 times. Each time I called, I spoke with a different person and was told something different. It was so confusing, I finally decided to take the 4th person's direction as correct. Of course, that ended up being incorrect too!

Example 6 - When I finally decided to withdrawal, I was told that there was a withdrawal fee but they couldn't tell me how much that would be. I was also told that there would be a review of my account and then they would determine if my financial aid would need to be returned for that class. I then received a letter 3 weeks later telling me that after review, there would be no need to return the financial aid. However, when I logged on to my account at Kaplan, on the very same date as was on the letter, they had returned my financial aid back without my consent. I mean, how conflicting and disorganized can you get! Of course, when I called and sent the person a picture of the letter, she was confused and could not help me. No resolution was offered or received on this issue.

I would like to add that I am a mid-level finance manager (a leader of leaders) with a very large world-wide company. I am not a total idiot when it comes to paying a bill or accounting coursework. Whenever I tried to reach out for assistance on any matter, I was treated like the problem was me. Stay away from this organization. Do not even consider attending this university! Also, I have letters and print screens of everything I claim in this review. I still do not have resolution for the second charge of $281.57.

I started Kaplan University in March, 2011. I was unsure of what I wanted to pursue at the time, but I went ahead and decided on a Bachelor's in Human Services (which is a joke BTW; research before you decide on a career path. For instance, my state doesn't have jobs for Human Services. We do for Social Workers, but that is a completely different college/training everything). In the beginning, everything was wonderful. I won't sit here and lie. The academic advisors are wonderful. They care about you a lot and they really do care if you succeed or fail. They are with you every step of the way.

My issue is with the Financial Aid office. I started out in 2010 at Ivy Tech Community College. The reason I left there is because Financial Aid never explains anything. They want that commission. They will help you with your FASFA and any other documentation, that they will do. When it comes to actually advising you or your decisions, THEY ARE TERRIBLE.

I was a poor college kid with small children. I wanted to do better for myself so I could raise them all the better. Therefore, I took out extra loan money when I could. All the while, NEVER being told "This is a bad decision", "If you do this, you will run out of money", "Don't do them so often", nothing. They just signed off on them as though everything was going to be okay. Mind you, they are ADVISORS. That is their job title. That is what they get PAID to do. Not help me with my FASFA. My mom could do that. Heck, I could do it if I wanted to.

A lot ended up happening to me in 2012. I failed two classes, I was working two jobs full time and I took in two more children in my home (step kids) as well as my three biologically. My father had BAD medical issues (near death) and either way, I wanted to take a term to breathe! Instead, they kept me enrolled and still took my money for it. I only found out through an email from a professor asking me if I was ever going to come to class!!! So, what did I do? They told me the only thing I could do was to hurry up and try to make up weeks and weeks worth of work (that was going to be missing points for being late as well).

However, I stuck it out. I really loved my academic advisor. She begged me not to give up on my education. At that point I had been there quite some time and I felt compelled to show them they didn't bother me with their games and silly antics. I also met with other students there at the campus who were going through their own issues with the campus (financially). Some of them were taking their problems all the way to the Big Guys at Corporate. Did I mention that their turn over rate for Financial Aid Advisors is EXTREMELY HIGH? I think in my time in being there, there were about at least four I can think of off-hand. No wonder they were confused!!

To this day, I just found out, I am over $80,000 in debt with financial aid. And I have no degree. I owe the school $9718 and therefore they blocked me from my portal (WHILE I WAS IN WEEK 8 OF A TERM)!!! I mean really??? I couldn't finish my term??? WOW! That is shady. I would have paid them their $9718. Matter of factly, I repeatedly asked them for a written document saying they would accept my payment of $100 every two weeks. Instead, all they kept doing was calling me or emailing me saying "Just pay. Then we can see what we can do." I am sorry, but I am super poor. I cannot give them the very last of my money every pay period just for them to block me anyway (which I knew they would do). All in all, what they wanted was my $200 a month and to still block me. I cannot afford that to happen.

I have saved all emails from them and I plan on them reimbursing the Federal Pell Grant for classes I haven't even taken. They were still accepting Federal money from them on my behalf, and not telling me I was in classes. All the while racking up my bill with whatever wasn't paid through the Pell Grant. Now that I have exceeded the allowed limit of funding through loans for a Bachelor's Degree, I am just S.O.L. I never even knew there was a such thing as a LIMIT on funding for a degree. It was always my belief that people went to college, if you had kids and were broke, you got financial aid. People go to school to be doctors, lawyers, etc... That is what my belief system was. I never found out there was a limit until I reached it.

I warn anyone looking into this school!!! I am not a scorned ex-student. I am actually still enrolled there just blocked until I can make a payment plan. (Which, if it is their way, will be not a written document). All I ever wanted was a written document accepting my payment. IS that too much to ask? They won in the end. If I would have knew then what I know now-- I would have enrolled at a more credible college. For the price I have paid, I could have became an RN at a state college like IUPUI or Ball State. Instead, I am going to be paying student loans for the rest of my life and my poor kids keep saying "Mommy, I thought we were going to get a big house with our own rooms? And a doggy?" or on their bdays they will say "I thought you were going to school so we can have BIGGGG birthdays?"

But schools don't think about that. How rich is the owner of that school? Would it kill him to hire better FINANCIAL AID ADVISORS? They don't advise a damn thing! They rob you while you're vulnerable. Please do your homework before they sweet talk you into going there. UGH... I can hear them now "Choose us! We are a smaller school. Therefore, we have more one on one with the Professors" **! My classes always had at least 27-35 students. Hell one had 52!! I was flabbergasted! We couldn't even talk. I attended online courses and a couple at the campus. Both suck equally.

Please do your homework. Also, look into how much they get paid. I think one lady who does all the "SALES" of students (like getting them to sign up with Kaplan) she gets $41 an hour. My old advisor told me right BEFORE she got fired. They probably found out she told me or she told another blabber mouth. I hate when people complain on stuff like this website, but I had to warn others.

We went through all the paperwork and I was assured that I was fully covered for the classes. I only needed three classes they told me that I have been cleared for Federal Student Aid and I would have to take two classes per term. So away we went, with three classes I was going to need and three that I did not need. This was so I could get into their masters program of accounting. Now that they have screwed up, I wanted to take my transcript that I have earned of my Bachelor degree and go to another school. Even when I explained that I needed to drop due to a death in the family. I deferred the loan as long as possible, trying to contact Kaplan for resolution. Shocker that there was none, but even three years later, it PISSES me off every time that Kaplan took this money and I get NOTHING but a bill. The BIGGEST joke and fraud ever. I applied after graduation to take the exam, pain the money, and was told I could not take the exam due to not completing my degree through an accredited program.

I was also not reimbursed in full what I paid CMA (AAMA). Well I contacted Kaplan and they sent all the info showing that I am indeed eligible to take the exam. Needless to say after 4 years, I am still not certified. Let's not even discuss the amount of money I owe to them, for what?? A degree that I can' even get certified in. Kaplan was dishonest with me about how much money I would owe after completing the program and how much my financial aid would pay.

Kaplan University has robbed me of my education. This institution is supposed to be about learning and integrity however it has proven to be nothing but lies and pricey lies at that. I attended Kaplan since 2011 completing my BA through 2015 where I was enrolled in the Masters Applied behavior analysts program. In 2014 I was charged with plagiarism as I did not properly cite a webpage image, I did cite it but it was in the wrong format. I appealed the charge however they denied my appeal and I was told by my advisor that it was just a warning. Knowing from Kaplan reached out or spoke to me about this charge and the only means of communication between me and the people determining the charge was email. Sounds unfair but moving on.

In 2015 I used three-four sentences from a previous paper I had written back in 2013 for Kaplan. I cited the quote I used properly and wrote the remaining paper. My professor came back to me and said my paper was plagiarized and was not my own work/ideas. She then stated that she submitted it for plagiarism and furthermore stated that upon investigation it appeared I used parts/portion of my prior work.

Anyway long story short, again Kaplan charged me with plagiarism, I appealed this and yet again they denied my appeal. Yet again no communication besides their emails charging me with this charge. I had to hire a lawyer in order to reappear and communicate with Kaplan. Kaplan has denied my lawyers appeal and has charged me with self plagiarism, which is a second charge. I was given an F in the class that I had perfect grades in, besides the one paper and dropped from the ABA program.

I have since left Kaplan to continue my education. I felt I was treated unfair and they never even reached out or connected me concerning these charges. These charges should have been handled differently, maybe as a learning experience or even loss of points but this is not stealing/plagiarism. This was a horrible experience and a waste of my time and money.

Since I have enrolled with Kaplan, the only problems that I have experienced is the lack of communication between staff members that work in admissions. I would get calls from one person that is inquiring about documents that I needed to send during my enrollment period and I would tell the person that those documents were already sent. This happened because whoever I spoke to that received my documents either did not put it in their system that the documents have been received or that person failed to communicate with other staff members.

The problem didn't last long and was fixed so that I could enroll on time in my classes. I always received my stipend and Pell grants on time with no issues and whenever I call to speak to my advisor, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes. In fact, my advisor or someone from the advising department would call me and check to see how I was doing in my classes and asked if I had any questions. Heck, there are schools that won't even allow you to transfer some of your credits within the same school towards the same exact degree when you transfer school locations. If you're interested in transferring credits at some point do your home work and make sure the school you want to transfer to at some point will indeed accept those credits. Also, make sure your grades are good enough to transfer.

The teachers aren't bad as some people on here say. It's just like a bricks and mortar college and you will get some good and bad teachers. I have two degrees one from a well-known bricks and mortar college and the other one from a different online college. I can tell you that the teachers at Kaplan are no different from those schools. There are some teachers that really seem to care and even give out their number. There are other teachers that don't appear to care as much and seem more interested in getting a paycheck. The seminars can be a pain in the butt because the teachers do get kicked out sometimes. The same thing happens to students and it can be quite frustrating, but in all of the classes I've been in this happens rarely. Some of this probably has to do with poor Internet connections. Regardless the seminars are a nice way to interact and speak to your teacher live. If you're not understanding something you often get clarification through the seminar.

Speaking of class mates... It is true that some of them can't spell or don't seem to follow directions well, but I am still failing to see why people are complaining about this... After all, you're not graded based off what they do. You can't tell me that there aren't people at other colleges with the same issue. I've also read about the financial department not being that great. I was kind of worried about this after reading many of these reviews when I first started school with them, but this shouldn't be a problem if you stay on top of it. It's your job to ask questions and keep track of things. After all, it's your MONEY. You have the ability to read all of this information on the Kaplan website. STAY ON TOP OF IT and you won't have any issues. This is true when dealing with money in anything. Be an adult and manage it.

I find it funny how all of the people on here are complaining that their Kaplan degree didn't get them a job. Well no kidding. A degree will not get you a job. Jobs want a combination of experience and education. Do a few internships and doors will open. A degree is just one of many things it takes to get a job. Have you ever thought you may interview poorly or that you're one many people interviewing for the same job? Take it from me without my college degree I would not be making what I make now. I have nearly tripled my salary in less than three years in part thanks to my education. Reading further I see many saying jobs don't take online degrees seriously. That's just not true. Take it from an IT manager that has hired people with online degrees. What we care more about is how well you did (GPA) and what you learned from it.

Bottom line. Don't believe half of the people on here complaining. I'm sure many of them have had bad luck, but many also sound lazy and just think because they have a degree they should have a job. It doesn't work that way. If you can go to a local school do it and that is especially true if it is cheaper, but for the rest of us it really isn't that bad as these reviews would have you believe.

This school is a joke. It's all fake! I think a monkey could "get in" to their school. The Lincoln campus president is rude and fake too. No one should ever go there. It's 30K for a Associates Degree which is outrageous. They hound you if you decide it's not what you want to do. No means No!!!

Attended Kaplan in 2005. In my 3rd semester my "Counselor" who was in Charge of what classes I had to take put me in a class that had a Pre-Requisite Class I had NEVER Taken. I contacted my counselor tried to get the class changed and he refused. Without the Pre-Requisite the class was Impossible to Understand and Pass. I gave up and Dropped Out of College COMPLETELY Because I had No Hope of Passing or Getting a Degree. Ended up owning $9,000.00 AFTER My Grants! I have spent YEARS Paying on these Student Loans, Gone into Default and had my Tax Returns Taken for several years. I have NO Degree and Yet I paid for One. :( Very Hard when you're a Widow with a Baby to start with but to get Screwed Like I DID MADE IT MUCH WORSE!!! I still haven't returned to college because I'm so afraid of ending up in the same boat I'm almost out of now. :(

I started Kaplan November 2007, with a death of my mother in law in December 2007, then started divorce proceedings, I begged Kaplan to allow me to take a leave of absence, which they denied after failing the courses. They encouraged me to continue on after failing the classes twice (which they charged me for both times) they suspended me out of the University. After a year of Appealing their decision, I was granted to be allowed back into the school, but I refused. Since then I took Medical billing and coding somewhere else and made more student loans got a diploma but to no avail no job in that field either. Here it is 2014 and I have no job, no means of income and barely living. Thanks for the education!

This school is a joke. I started out with Andover College in Maine and Kaplan bought it after my first year there, so then I finished my associate's with Kaplan. They then contacted me and said because I had done so well academically that I would get a certain percentage (I want to say 5?) off tuition plus I earned a $5k scholarship towards my bachelor's degree. This sounded like a great deal to me, so I signed up to earn my bachelor's degree.

To be quite honest, the classes were so easy it was a joke. I made straight A's through my 1.5 years and although I believe I am pretty smart, I am not what you would call brilliant. Come on. I would get my homework back with minimal or no corrections on it. There was NO challenge to the classes and I feel like a complete fraud in earning a 4.0 GPA.

But my biggest complaint here is HOW in the bloody heck did I end up with almost $50k in debt to attend such a second-rate university? And to make matters even worse, I keep having to delay payments because guess what? I can't find a job because employers do not take an online degree seriously and honestly, I can't blame them. So I went back to school to improve my skills and to hopefully get a higher paying job in management and I end up unemployed with $50k in debt. Kaplan really is a joke - if you are thinking of going there, please do not. Go to a real university and get a real degree.
