Unlike the negative reviews I have read here, I had a wonderful educational experience at Kaplan. I initially earned my Associates degree and went back to earn my Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, which allowed me the opportunity to step into the top position within my agency. The professors and instructors were great and in fact, I've become life long friends with a few of them and we continue to keep in touch long after I've graduated. Kaplan as well as any other school, is what you make of it. Put in the hard work and you will reap the rewards of your efforts!

I completed 11 out of 18 courses at Purdue University and was doing well, 7 As, 2 Bs, and 1 course transferred over. That was up until last semester when I received a C. I am presently enrolled and STRUGGLING. Why? Because the remaining courses use random questioning for test. Which means that the exams do not reflect assigned readings for the current units. My first exam covered content from unit 3 and beyond. The problem was that we hadn't even progressed through the first unit.

After speaking with the instructor she explained that test questions were random, meaning that they cover all content in the course. So after reading and studying 6 chapters assigned in unit 1, zero percent of the material was on the exam. It seems to me that one would need to first study the entire courses content in order to do well. Had I been aware of this, I would have purchased the text book and done the readings 3 months in advance. But somehow this doesn't seem fair to students.

Reaching out to instructors is a waste of time. The response I received was that I would be notified of areas for which I needed to focus on. This is a joke! How does that help the horrific grades received for exams that you can't prepare for? Of course at this point I am too far into the program to throw in the towel now. However, I recommend that any nurses looking to advance their education to look into another university. One that is realistic to the working professional and fair! Education requires both time and money. So find out as much as you can about a university before enrolling.

I enrolled during Fall 2003 and took 2 courses. I decided to enroll in a local university and they would not accept these courses as a transfer. I was told that this school is only accredited to itself and if I planned to go elsewhere then I shouldn't have wasted my time with this school. I had to retake the 2 courses that I had taken at Kaplan once I got to the University.

After speaking with Haley Carrillo on the phone today, I will never re-enroll in Kaplan again. He was demeaning, invasive, and condescending. From the very start of the phone call he was brief and rude. I had first began attending Kaplan after my son was born and I wasn't working. My grades were excellent and I was named on the Dean's List for most of my terms. Fast forward to when I re-enrolled after a two year break, I received a major promotion at work. All of my time went into work and my son, as I am a single mother NOT on any type of government aid or child support! I failed classes simply for not attending. I am not arguing that today. I take accountability and just wanted the chance to finish up the degree (as of 1 year ago, I was 2 classes away). As Haley made the already obvious so clear in his tone, "You know you still have to pay for the F's though, right?" I'm fully aware, which is why I wondering why I was being berated... I'm paying you!

I don't really think it's in an advisor's position to even talk about what I'm paying for. And I don't think it's in their position to criticize or be rude. Saying things like, "It doesn't matter how many classes you have left; it matters more what the dean will think..." or "You can file appeal, but I can't say they'll even want to work with you." or "Why couldn't you get it together? Just work? Is that it?" The calls are recorded, but I'm assuming this behavior and treatment is passed down through the ranks, so I'm not expecting much out of this. Go somewhere that WANTS to work with you and ADVISE you about what the best path to take is academically. You're supposed to feel empowered and motivated about finishing your academic career!

I enrolled in Kaplan and had a good experience for a month and a half. Needed to speak to my advisor however she wasn't in the office. The advisor speaking for her told me I was wasting her time and and the school's when they could be better spent on someone who deserves it. This was a few years back but if individuals such as these are supposed to be an Academic Advisor, I can only imagine the standards she was pushing onto the students when they asked for help. Whether under a different name or how few years ago, if this is the sentiment tolerated or personal opinions are more important, DO NOT ENROLL HERE.

I signed up for a Bachelor's degree in Business Management. I was told that I had gotten my financial aid so I assumed everything was good to go. Well it wasn't. I took the first ten weeks of classes which I passed and was loving the classes, but when the next ten week classes came up I was in the second week and they blocked me from getting into the class. They told me I had to come up with a little over a thousand dollars to continue with my classes. Well I was not able to come up with that kind of money in the length of time so I didn't get a chance to do anything. My question is how could I owe Kaplan University that much money when I was taking online classes. I live in Mississippi so saying that, I will go on to explain why I asked the question why I owed them so much because I never got any books. I didn't use the library or anything. I used my own laptop computer and my own electricity so what exactly was Kaplan University charging me for.

I also think if another University bought them out the students that they say owed them should not have to pay for the classes that they took after the other University bought Kaplan. I tried and tried to call and get answers but you get put on hold and I couldn't keep on paying for the phone calls because that is long distance so you can imagine the bill when you sit there waiting for ten minutes or more then you just get tired of waiting and hang up because you have to get ready to go to work. So you try the next few days and the same thing over and over you just get tired of trying.

Trust me I will be looking into when Purdue University bought Kaplan University out and if it was before the year 2018 I will be looking into what I can do because if Kaplan University is no longer available why are they still getting my money because they took my 2018 tax return. People a word of advice. Never sign up for this College. The classes were good. I will admit that but as far as the financial aid office it's a joke. A scam because I know for a fact that in the little print it states you do not have to start paying for the classes until you graduate and get a job but I already had a job. That was not the problem. The problem is they lie out their back end. If my review gets read I want to thank everyone for reading it. Robbie **.

I worked really hard to obtain my degree and you could see when my worked declined when I found out I wasn't gonna have enough to finish. Even with financial aid and my advisor encouraging me to continue. Why continue to rack up a bill and not get my degree in return?? Now I can't sign up anywhere to continue because I'm to my limit in loans. All that hard work for nothing but in so much debt I'm drowning. What a waste!

So I drove the hour to get to her location and she said my books would be arriving at my home shortly. I got my books, and there were no instructions other than an email stating that the "in classroom class" would be in a couple months. I get to the class and the other 15 students and I were under the impression that we would be learning and going through the books and online stuff...nope. The online stuff was supposed to be finished BEFORE coming to this classroom class. This put all of us behind because there are 6 proctored exams that need to be passed before you can go and take the state exam. All of us were angry. I do not recommend this school. Prior to enrolling in Kaplan University, I contacted the DOH of the state where I currently reside to make sure they were regionally and nationally accredited. I received a letter stating that they were, so I enrolled into Kaplan's MSN program. About a year into the program, I began having trouble with several of my instructors. One was so illiterate that she couldn't properly cite nor spell, yet she critiqued my papers harshly. I also began having issues with one of the foreign students who was emailing inappropriate hate mail to me which the instructors excused. I looked into those instructors and discovered they were not doctors of anything, and that the assistant dean was really the senior data clerk.

I then found out they were not accredited and that they were being sold to Purdue University for $1.00 (one dollar) and have a history of corruption. After much ado, I learned that any degree from them wouldn't be worth the paper it was written on and quickly withdrew from the program. I have since entered into a class action lawsuit with many others who discovered after they enrolled that this school is corrupt.

No job because even though I asked numerous times about accreditation and was told they were. In all actuality they are NOT. Now 60+ in student loans and cannot use my education because they do not recognize it as an accredited college. So for all the hard work I did it was all not worth it. I signed up for a series of in-person GRE classes that cost $1299. I then rearranged my schedule, changing airline tickets and moving important meetings, to accommodate the class. Out of the blue, just 2 weeks before the class was going to start, they canceled the class because not enough students enrolled (meaning they couldn't make enough money off of it). They didn't offer a refund or even a partial discount to make up for the inconvenience, nor do they even tell you how to re-enroll in a new class. They claim someone will call you in 1-2 days, which no one did.

Instead of refunding my money immediately, they asked me to find a new class - and rearrange my schedule again. And even though I signed up online and all my communications with them had been online, they refuse to process a refund without me calling them on the phone and waiting on hold. (They do this so they can sell you again...) I guess they've cornered the market so they don't feel the need to deliver good customer service. It's so disappointing.

My Admissions experience was fairly positive. However, there are no dates or amounts posted. You're directed to email/call financial aid and they don't want to give you direct answers to questions like: How are Student Loans processed (semester or term)? How much will be requested? When will my bill be published and how much am I being charged per class? When is the Add/Drop Period? When are refunds processed? All very important questions right?! Then while all that's going on, the online Instructor is "chatting" a live Seminar (class) with screaming kids in the background and not on topic for every class.

Her students are telling her that her "Templates" for assignments aren't loading and asking for clarifications on instructions. To which she answers "Don't worry, I'll grade whatever you turn in." Well that was a lie, her Syllabus had no due dates on it whatsoever and PG/Kaplan sent you aggravating messages that you weren't allowed to turn in quizzes or assignments before Wednesdays or they wouldn't be counted (the class was on Monday). God forbid you have something else to do during the week. The Advisor that was assigned to me, called me EVERY DAY. This is even after asking her to email since she "was just checking on me" not providing any answers to the 40 questions above and I couldn't take 4,000 calls at work daily... One class was enough.

Worst decision I made, when I had a situation with an exam, I called, several weeks later someone called me, it was a waste, he didn't even help any. The biggie was that I had mentioned several times I was a real estate salesperson in NYS for 19 years, and you think they could have told me that I didn't need to take this course. I received my BS in psychology at Kaplan in 2014, I am now 3 weeks away from completing my Masters. Kaplan is a great school, as stated, you get what you put out. You do have to work. Online is not as easy as many people think. The professors are awesome and academic advising are wonderful as well. My only issue since 2010 is the financial aid department. Something is always changing, everyone is not on the same page, and stipends are almost always delayed. This sucks to me. I have decided after this semester to attend another college to future my education, I simply cannot take how funds are handled another 3 years.

I have learned a lot from Kaplan University however, when it comes to the financial part of it they truly need some work. Many people depend on these stipends. Besides they are loans student have to back... so why hold them for 14 days. I am experiencing this issue AGAIN. No one ever knows when you'll get your monies. However, education wise, they deserve a 10.

Wife attended this college for a single semester and having nearly $7,000 in grants and loans totaled, her $5,000 bill (incredibly high for a semester) was not covered and she was told to pay out of pocket. Come to find out that they held one of the loans for a month's time to see if she would pay it on her own before the loan came through. We checked back a month later after they dropped her from all classes and refused re-enrollment and the balance was paid with a loan and she even had some extra set to her balance ledger.

After contacting the proper people to figure out what was going on they refused to speak and ignored all e-mails. I do not use the word lightly but this place can only be described as a scam. They are trying to collect more and more money at the expense of their students and will delay you receiving your degree as long as they can just to accrue you in more debt. Needless to say the balance remaining will not be used as we move to another college. Will probably not transfer any credits but we will see.

When people think of taking an online class, they think it's going to be so easy. That's true maybe for the local community college, not so much for Kaplan University. One way to describe it is squirrels on Ecstasy at a rave. You have 10 weeks to do the work, but in truth it's pretty much only 7 weeks to do 5 months of work. And you WILL WORK. You only get out of it what you put into it. Most of the professors are professional, you will run into one or two that really shouldn't be teaching but that is something you will see everywhere. You will be given an outline of everything that is due and you have no questions of when everything is due, there is NEVER a doubt when something is due. There is a seminar each week where the professor goes over everything and answers your questions live.

If your grades start to slip, you will get a call from an adviser to find out why and if there is anything they can do to help you out. If you work full-time it's brutal, exhausting and painful because there is so much work that needs to be done. Your discussion board questions are mini-papers, and they're required... Sometimes there's two or three questions and yes you have to also reply in full to two other people over the week. I decided to return to community college online for a few classes as a refresher. There is no comparison between them. Nothing is clear-cut, there is no seminar for the instructor to answer questions, all learning is done through YouTube (I wish I was joking), all other learning is done through links to other colleges and there are no notes. I'm paying for this and compared to Kaplan, it's just a disgrace.

The only huge drawback to Kaplan is the fact that they are not regionally recognized by the community college I returned to (a fact the woman was very happy to point out as condescendingly as possible) so those credits won't transfer. I don't care... I'm beyond happy with the Master's I EARNED from here. It took a lot of pain (sometimes blood, sweat and crying every week) but I did it and I'm proud of what I accomplished. No this university isn't for everyone. Yes it is a for-profit university. No I don't believe they are a degree mill. And yes I would go back in a heartbeat. If you think you can handle being treated like an intelligent adult, are a bit of a **, a lover of caffeine and think you want a challenge then this is the place for you. Good luck!

I am in the Master of Management degree program with Kaplan with an emphasis in Human Resources. I will be graduating in August of 2017. I love the way that the online program is easy to maneuver even with their recent changes in connecting with Purdue University which will give it more prestige. Overall, the instructors, classes and assignments were good. The only thing that I did not like was the high emphasis on working in teams. I think that we pay too much money for our work to be based upon if someone did their portion of an assignment.

Team projects are good if you are actually meeting face-to-face, but to have virtual teams where everyone is on different time zones all across the world is very challenging. My last few classes, however, I was fortunate to not have to have any teams. Another issue that I would think Kaplan will change is their not having direct deposit for student refunds. Who mail paperchecks in the 21st century? I have seen where this has been a major complaint with students, and rightfully so, that Kaplan has refused to offer direct deposit for its students.

This is something that maybe they will change now that they will become Purdue University. I believe Purdue offers direct deposit for its students, so I am assuming the Kaplan will have to follow suit due to their union. Overall, the experience with Kaplan has been a good one and I wish all who attend in the future much success.

My last 2 terms I have had a professor who long story short was just absolutely was annoying and I would mute her and teach myself. When your professor bounces on an exercise ball all class long and speaks like Minnie Mouse, you lose it. I was about to have her a 3rd term and reached out to my advisor to see if there was a different professor to teach the class or other options. Yeah! I could take a different class. I had to get permission from the dean, granted and receive an 85 or higher. No problem, My grades have been excellent and I did not see any problem with the class I was about to take, it was a Word class. Should I fail the class, I will have to take the class with Professor Minnie Mouse, no ifs and or buts. Rest assured, I was set out to pass this class with flying colors!

Well, I am into week 4 and already failing. Not failing the homework, that I am passing on with flying colors, no quizzes in this class. It is the seminars - it is entirely a new way to log in. You have to log into one site for the attendance credit and another for the seminar. Now mind you, I have been here 2 years, I am done in Oct and have never had a seminar like this and my other class is not set up this way. While there are things that I do love about it, if you miss the attendance section, even though the professor knows you are there and has acknowledged that you are there (in writing) you miss all the points. I screen shot to the professor and my advisor as well as tech support that I was logged into both sites per my browsing history... apparently this is not good enough for them.

What are my options? Ask the professor for an incomplete, she has to provide it, still left with paying for this class and take the Minnie Mouse class and pay for that too. Kaplan has stated that the professor can change the grade, she will not and they are not willing to back me on the other problem I have had with the grading from her - she makes up her own grading system as she goes - swell! Nothing like finally being at the end and Kaplan screws you over to get more money out of you. Personally, I believe and feel that the advisor and dean went to the professor and told her what was going on from day 1 - ANYONE ELSE HEARING UNETHICAL?! Save your money and go to a different school, PLEASE.

The courses are helpful to me. I'm enjoying my online courses because I know I'm bettering myself. And makes me feel proud that I'm accomplishing something. Never was very good in high school but I find these classes easy to understand. But I really wish they had a good course on veterinary science because I love animals and would love to pursue a part time job doing this. But Kaplan does offer a lot of other courses. I wish I could get a little more help at night but they're mostly available in the daytime hours. Also, I do wish it was a little bit cheaper.

I would like a good business program and that is easy access. Is also good that at least be at least 50% classroom and have a flexible schedule and if possible classes from Friday to Sunday in the morning. Class schedules should be at least 4 hours a day for at least two days a week and the intensive course would be good for a duration of at least 6 months of classes, as well as the university supporting the course with a valid certificate to work and recognized by the national education.
