The worst possible experience for my husband and I. Even after 4 years, we are still being charged by the IRS for debts that were paid by this company. They don't tell you that if you pay off large debts, you get taxed on them as well. That's not the worst. Our credit is shot.

We are sorry to hear that you have any negative feeling about our program and how it worked for you and your husband. Creditors do have the right to send you a 1099C tax form and that information is covered in your contract and during your welcome call. Congratulations on graduating the program in just over 3 years and especially on your the 25% settlement we obtained on one of your largest accounts for $17,000.

I have been with FDR for almost a year, and I still feel like I am not seeing any results. I have contact their office regarding the settlements with all of my creditors. Even though I have tried to understand how the program works, I can't help but to be disgusted and discouraged. FDR has been taking so long with contacting my creditors to the point of my accounts being turned over to collection agencies. And, once my accounts are turned over to collections, I feel like my creditors want nothing to do with FDR. I see many positive reviews, and good for those who have seen good results; but, I am not seeing it on my end.

It would be exceptionally helpful if you are to make contact with my billers, even before you are ready to negotiate with them. If you were to let them know you are now in control of my accounts and they should contact you instead of me, it would stop or slow down the troublesome amount of irritating phone calls.

Some creditors will become more aggressive in their collection methods if we contact them and their are not enough funds in your dedicated account for us to use to negotiate with. If creditors are calling you too often, I suggest using the script we provide or just not answering your phone.

I've been dealing with Freedom Debt Relief since June of 2012. I had twenty thousand worth of loans/credit card debt I needed help with, and they took me on. Their terms at the time were completely within reason, which is why I chose them to help me. Their staff/customer service was always helpful. If I needed to call them, they were there. If for some reason they needed to get back to me, they did so promptly, and courteously. They communicated via email and phone very well, and it was a pleasurable experience.

However, that all stopped this week... when I had a problem with them. A serious problem, that has yet to be addressed. My agreed debt program of 42 months quickly became 58 months. A difference of nearly $6000! December 7th was to be my final draft payment, and I'm now being told it could take up to 16 more months. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold. For a long hold. When I couldn't wait any longer (I was at work), I arranged to have them contact me at a set time. They never called.

Below is a copy of the message that I sent to their customer service. This has yet to be answered, in any way... "On Friday of last week, November 13th, I logged into the client portal to verify when my final payment would be. I couldn't remember if the final monthly draft would be next month, or January 7th, 2015. What I found to be my "FDR Debt Free Date" is now 16 months later than the estimated time given to me on my Debt Resolution Agreement, prepared for me by John **, on June 12, 2012.

16 months? I understand that there can be a fluctuation on the estimated debt free date, but 16 months is completely unacceptable. Per my 2012 Debt Resolution agreement: Total enrolled debt: $20,287. Monthly draft: $354. Estimated payoff: $14,417 - $15,935. Estimated time: 42 months. My first draft of $354 was made on July 7th, 2012. 42 months from that time, tells me that by December 7th of this year, you will have received from me $14,868, which is just a little more than the low number on my estimated payoff. To meet the high end of the estimated payoff would require approximately 4 more monthly drafts. This is a fair amount, and I was prepared for that to happen.

However, the estimated time of 42 months is now 58 months. 16 months longer of $354 monthly drafts. $5,664 more dollars out of my pocket. Simply doing the math shows me that your "debt resolution" program has offered me no advantage. 16 more months of my monthly drafts will essentially equal my total enrolled debt. That being the case, why on earth have I bothered to use you as my debt relief? Per my current client portal, you've been able to reduce my debt by $5,587. Subtract that amount from my 2012 enrolled debt, and that works out to $14,700... Which is right around the amount of my 2012 estimated payoff.

I'm not an idiot. I've done the math. I never would have bothered entering this program, if I knew it would take me 16 months longer than I agreed to. I need this problem resolved, and quickly. I spoke with customer service on the phone on Tuesday, the 17th. I was told that I'd be in touch with a supervisor, but I couldn't wait any longer on the phone, as I was working. Later that day, I phoned and left a message for your company to contact me yesterday, Wednesday, the 18th, at 5:30PM Eastern time. Nobody called. Somebody had better call me today at 5:30PM Eastern time, with good news. I simply cannot afford another 16 months of these payments, and I do not want to be forced into filing for bankruptcy."

I am excited that my debts are going down, but one thing that bothers me is that why weren't the smaller amounts done first so that they don't have an overwhelming amount for you to have to negotiate with, which in return makes it seem that I owe more than what I actually started out with. Now that I have seen it with my eyes, it just doesn't make sense to me.

We are sorry that there is any frustration on how our program works. There are several variables our Negotiations team uses to get you the best settlements possible. Sometimes this means negotiating on larger balances first. In your case, it most likely had to do with obtaining a 10% settlement on a $6,000 balance. Congratulations on such a fantastic savings!! I had a very high amount of debt, but FDR was very confident when I signed up that I would be able to settle for close to 50% of my debt. My first card for $3000 was settled at 50% and then I paid 23% charge to FDR. Fine. My next two were for a credit union and they "settled" for 100% ...but I still paid $6000 in fees for ZERO PERCENT REDUCTION. I called to complain, but they took their money anyway. I still feel that was completely unfair since they didn't settle the account at all... just set up a payment plan, which they charged every month for as well. Then my Discover account was settled for 70%. After fees I saved a whopping $461 total. Finally for my last account, I just hired a local lawyer to settle it and quit the program. These were my results after 36 months and missing no payments.

After my initial review, I was contacted the following day, and two days later my issue was resolved. The CSR was very helpful and called me each day until I was satisfied with the resolution. I am very pleased with how this was handled, and have modified my original star rating.

    Original Review: Oct. 22, 2015

I was enrolled in the Freedom program on August 28th. The process was fast, informative and everyone that I spoke to was courteous, helpful and really made me feel that I was making the right decision for my situation. I have already approved my first settlement and they are working on the next, so the program so far is working fast and I am happy with my first settlement amount. I would be rating my experience much higher if I did not have an outstanding issue with my account.

Within the first week of setting up my account and well before my first draft payment I found out and decided that it would be in my best interest to remove one of my creditors from the program. I contacted customer service via phone and the person I spoke with was very helpful and explained that it was easy to add or remove a creditor at any time and that she could take care of it. When she got back to me a few minutes later she gave me my projected new bi-weekly draft amount and it was much higher than I expected. She asked me to suggest what I thought was affordable and that she would forward to underwriting for approval. She stated that if my suggested amount was not approved, that I would find out within two business days.

It is approaching the two month mark very soon, and I either call or email once per week to check status and get my draft amounts temporarily adjusted. There has been no issue with this, and I have not had any amount above what I requested removed from my checking account. However, it is frustrating and time consuming to have to continuously contact them to review and verify my draft amounts and status. Every person that I have been in contact with has been extremely friendly and they can see all the account notes, etc. from my previous calls, and each time I am told that they are waiting for underwriting approval. I will be making my weekly call again tomorrow, so I am hopeful they will get this resolved soon. Other than this issue, so far my experience has been very good and I look forward to being debt free in the near future.

When I signed up with this company, they told me I could leave at any time. Oh really? I told them I wanted to leave the program last week... I had a dropped call from them (could have been an accident), but then when I called back, they put me on hold for 20 minutes. Then, I was switched to the department that closes accounts. The guy there tried to convinced me to stay. I told him I had already made up my mind. Afterward, they said they would send me a confirmation email. I did not receive a confirmation email, money back in my accounts... oh and did not receive an email in SPAM. This company is so clever that it would say that it went to my SPAM mailbox. I don't think I am going to get my money back.

When I asked them (when initially signing with the company) what the fees were.. the customer service representative... initials (A.T) kept on saying "very, very minimal." Well, that is not a definitive answer. I think about getting my cousin to sue. This company had told me that they settled accounts. Upon calling the creditors and charge card companies, the creditors and charge company companies told me that FDR had made no overtures to them whatsoever. When I told FDR this... FDR told me that the charge card companies were lying. I am totally incredulous that the BBB would have a good consumer rating for this company. By all rights, they should be sued by many people.

Also she told me the duration of the settlements will take between 4 to 6 months. Today is October 16, my credit is the worst than ever with no results. I keep calling her and she never return my calls. One day I spoke with her and she told me that I have to call customer service because she does not have access to my account.

FDR truly and successfully negotiated payments with three creditors over the course of 2013 through 2014. Some of the creditors were difficult to work with. Thus, I never disputed FDR's fees since they did perform the work an provided me with updates. However, the fourth and final negotiation was performed by me and not by FDR. I negotiated directly with the creditor and had to provide FDR with negotiation information and instructions from my creditor since FDR was not a participant in this negotiation. Nevertheless, FDR returned funds to me minus a "fee." I feel strongly that, regarding this particular negotiation, FDR should not have collected a fee.

My credit was perfect when I was referred to this company but I was struggling to make monthly payments due to personal financial issues at the time. I was encouraged to stop making my monthly payments to my creditors because then "it would be easier to negotiate" with my creditors after a few months of no payments. They told me that it would only take a couple of months and then after it was all over it would be as if it never happened on my credit report. Well, I can tell you it is not as if it never happened, my credit has derogatory remarks all over it. And... once you have not made payments for "a few months"... more like 6!! They tell you they are in negotiations and this goes on for a while and then they tell you that they can give you a loan to pay off your creditors at the lesser negotiated amount.

By this time you are more than ready to be done with the process because it is very stressful, especially if you are someone that does not miss making payments to your creditors. So you take the loan but then, surprise! The loan they give you is at an interest rate of almost 20%!!! And why? Because you don't have good credit any longer because you have missed payments to your creditors. Do not fall into this trap, it is not worth it! Talk to your creditors and work something out yourself instead.

This issue has been resolved. I followed up with the District Clerk today and a "dismissal" has been filed for the writ of garnishment. NLLG did let the opposing attorney know it was not my fault and FDR did make sure they received their payments after NLLG notified them.

I would recommend them for anyone in this situation but debt settlement is not necessarily a pleasant thing to go through. Some of my creditors have been very understanding and then there are others who are not at all.

When all this is over I plan to write a book on this experience so others will know which creditors to avoid at all cost and how this process works in case they find themselves in this situation. Thank you!

    Original Review: Oct. 4, 2015

I recently had a settlement made that was negotiated by NLLG. I made additional drafts to cover the payment and no payment has been sent to the attorney the settlement was negotiated with. I had previously talked with representatives with Freedom and all assured that this would be handled with my extra drafts and assured me it was being handled appropriately. I was served with a writ of garnishment from the attorney's office by mail which I received on 10-2-15.

In my account with the trust company handling the funds, it shows they received the payments but no payments have been made to the attorney. Up until this point, I thought they were doing a good job but now I don't feel very confident this is going to work. NLLG sent me a copy of the settlement but nothing on it even states the due dates for the payments or when they are to begin. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have made the payments to the attorney myself and pulled this account from the program instead of sending in an additional drafts to cover the payments that are not being made which will now incur further hardship if this is not resolved immediately.

On 9/23, I received a Warrant In Debt on my doorstep from Zwicker & Associates that states I am to appear in court on October 19th regarding payment on my Discover account. I called FDR immediately and to be quite honest, the woman I originally spoke with only left me in a panic. I have no idea what any of this means and she made me feel pretty stupid and helpless. Upon her request and email, I enrolled in the National Litigation Group and now I have no clue if that was even the right course of action. My contact in that group won't get back in touch with me.

I also spoke with Juan on 9/23, and he said I would need to send an additional payment of $168 in order to avoid going to court. I came up with that additional money and ran to my bank that same day so he could submit that additional payment to resolve this matter. That additional payment was never taken out until 9/28. What was the urgency in having me rush to my bank to take care of this? Where is this additional money? I emailed Juan and he never got back to me.

Since 9/23, I have called the Advance Collections Team EVERY SINGLE DAY. I have gotten a different answer EVERY SINGLE DAY. On 9/28 I spoke with Levonne and he said to call back. On 9/30, I spoke with Amber and she said it should be resolved that day and she would escalate it to the management team and that I could call back that afternoon for an answer. Instead, I called back today and spoke with Elizabeth and she gave me an entirely different story. She said it hasn't gone to management and there is still no answer.

I am currently looking into other options because FDR has left me high and dry. The customer service group has been fantastic... Until now. Unfortunately I've read over a dozen other reviews online where people have the same exact problem. I am literally sick to my stomach. I got myself into this situation which was stressful enough. People make mistakes and I turned to FDR for help and now I think it only made my problem worse. I trusted them to help me and now when I need help the most, they are gone. It's very sad that a company can do this to people who are already struggling and doing the best they can to resolve their debt. I've never missed a payment in the 15 months I've been enrolled in the program. I've done everything I can to fix my debt problem and now I'm in a bigger problem than what I started with.

Yesterday we settled my first account, the one with the highest debt. I was in the fifth month of the program. The settlement was substantial, as the debt was reduced by 40%. I am gladly paying FDR for their services; they deserve it. I should be debt free in about 2.5 years. Please understand their services to fully benefit of their program. For me, the highlights were: debt reduction, elimination of accruing interest (freezing of the settled debt), a clear, relatively short program to come out debt free (compared to paying tenfold within 10-15 years, if paying only the monthly minimum). Credit score starts rebuilding once the payments restart on the settled debt. In California, we pay FDR 21% of the original debt for their services, on top of the settled debt. This is the only option to bankruptcy, which ruins your credit for good. If you have a substantial debt, this is the way to go. Thank you, FDR!

I was under a mountain of debt when I heard about the wonderful success stories of Freedom Debt Relief. The representatives I spoke with talked about the tremendous success they had in negotiating settlements with creditors. The program they offered sounded really good, the people I talked with on the phone were very helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about my plight. I signed up and started making the recommended payments.

About 3 months into the program, one of my creditors filed suit against me in court. I contacted Freedom Debt Relief and sent them the paperwork regarding the case. As the court date neared, I hadn't heard back from them so I called their toll-free number. Their response was, in essence, "YOU have a problem and YOU need to address it". I erroneously assumed they would provide legal representation or at least legal counsel. The attitude of the people I spoke with, while professional, seemed very detached. One person finally told me to file for an extension which would give them additional time to work out a settlement. This did work but at that point I realized Freedom Debt Relief was not as firmly in my corner as I had thought.

The first settlement they negotiated reduced the debt to my creditor from $15k to $9k and I thought things were wonderful until they took $3k out of my account for as a "settlement fee". That means their "fee" is one-third of the negotiated amount. In actuality, I will end up paying $13k on the $15k I owed. They tout themselves as "helping people" but there is a lot more to the story. I can honestly say I would not recommend this organization to anyone else seeking relief from creditors.

After writing this review everything finally got settled with no additional monies being taken. It still took a few months to get my "graduation" package but it did have a thank you card with the signatures of many people so i felt appreciated as a customer. I still feel you could save money & negotiate your debts yourself for a lot less but if you just don't want to deal with it I can safely recommend this company. FYI upon completion of this program my score went from a 450 to 670 within a few months. I'm now up to a 720.

    Original Review: Sept. 18, 2015

I enrolled in 2012, was told I'd be done in early 2015. I committed $17,024 and have now paid $20,559 and according to them, am still not finished. Their fees are ridiculous, however I wouldn't mind that so much had they been honest. I have been sending them a 1099-C since 2012 where one of my creditors wrote the debt off. I FINALLY got them to resolve the account last month (8/2015). They then tried to take their fee anyway, however, did drop the fee when I disputed it. I was told I would have my last draft taken on 9/15. I spoke to a rep and he gave me the name of 2 supervisors who told him this information was correct.

Now, all of sudden, I have an account that should have been closed still open because I paid a couple days late due to insufficient funds, which I ended up paying within a few days anyway. Looking at my bank statements for the last 2 years, the creditor still got their money every month, and I paid them twice in December 2014, but this account is still not settled. I feel like they lie and add hidden fees and feel like I would have done better saving my money and settling myself.

It was after 8 months of late charges and fees they said I would not have to pay. They always got them negotiated away. Bottom line: they put me 12000.00 deeper in debt between 6 creditors. They settled for 118% of the original debt. Now I am seeking bankruptcy and will likely find an attorney to go after FDR in my state. Don't trust them. They are liars and will allow your debt to increase thereby increasing their 21% profit on the settlement.

I have had a big mess of a problem ever since getting my second summons on a Discover account. The law group they have me on retainer for did not send Freedom the necessary paperwork that I signed for a settlement. Meaning Freedom had no idea a settlement even existed and if I had not called to check on it I would have never known payment wasn't sent and had a judgment against me for not paying.

Now this obviously isn't Freedom's fault however following this I have been sent on back and forth calls between them and NLLG. I have been trying to get payment out that was due on the 31st to this creditor and have been unable to. I needed to add funds that took 7 full days and now that the funds are in the account payment still hasn't been sent! They told me it could still be a few more days and the payment is already late to a law firm who I signed and said if payment was late they may get an automatic judgment on me.

Put it this way, for a 19000 debt that was settled for 10000, they take 3800 and for a 10800, which has not settled yet but they will take 2600 as a fee. Oh and they make sure they get their money before any creditor. And no matter your experience, awful or not (which mine was Atrocious) the fee they will get. Not a penny less. So they can give you the run around and not answer your questions and treat you like an idiot, but guess what they have already received their cut, so go cry a river. I would suggest anyone who is going through this, DO NOT GO WITH FDR. EITHER GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY OR DO IT YOURSELF. Do not fall for them - it is too hard to do it yourself. I was then charged exorbitant legal fees and was required to pay more money over and above the monthly fee I had been sending. These additional charges were far and above more than I had been told upfront and exceeded anything I could afford. I kept calling asking for an accounting and finally one service provider told me how much they were charging in legal fees. When I questioned concern about other outstanding creditors I was told not to be impatient. Following their plan would greatly exceed the time and the money I had initially agreed to. Beware. At the beginning of the program, I had a great experience with Freedom. Towards the end I saved enough money to pay off the remaining balances. So I called in April 2015 and asked for a payoff. I submitted the funds to pay off all the debt. After a few weeks I called back and they said that they were paying off the debts and had a few scheduled in May. So, I called back in June and they did not have enough money in the account to pay off all the accounts. The agent asked if I could send in a little extra to make sure it was covered and anything extra would come back to me. I was a little upset but I sent an additional draft. Now while all of this was happening, they had stopped automatic draft until they started again in Aug. I was really upset because I was told they were not going to take any more money.

I called them again - this time real upset. They said that they needed more money and they took it from the draft. I told them they had gave me 2 payoffs amounts and I was wanting a full refund on what they drafted from my account. Well, they said that a Manager would call me but they never did. So, today I checked the website and it said all accounts have been paid. I called them and asked to close the account. They said it would take a few days to get it processed. Well, we will see if this is over! I will be reporting the issues to the Better Business Bureau. In all I feel like was punished for paying off early and they wanted to make up some of that money. I would not recommend anyone from using them because of the problems I've had since April.

I am satisfied with customer service representatives being kind and attentive when I contact FDR. I am very dissatisfied with the fees being charged to settle my debts. After checking to make sure an account had been settled, I realized there is a $185 fee just to handle this, that is a bit outrageous. I realize my debt is large, however, I do not feel the fee should be this high to negotiate on my behalf. Despite the forms I mailed to my creditors, I am being hounded CONSTANTLY day and night. I was under the impression when I signed up, you all would also inform my debt collectors that you all were working on my behalf.

Again, representatives (from FDR) I talk to are informative, supportive and kind, that is a plus.

I was told that there was no way I could ever possibly pay off my credit card debt on my own (despite paying 0% interest on all but one account, which is at 7%). I was told that, even though I have been able to pay more than my monthly payments, with no record of missed or late payments, my best option would be to STOP MAKING PAYMENTS and try to settle with my creditors in court, using one of Freedom Debt Relief's services, of course.

When I mentioned that that sounded like an option sure to RUIN my credit score the counselor asked me accusingly "Why are you so worried about your credit score?" Ummm... Wow. Where do I even start? Also, what you only learn upon further, detailed reading is that once your debt is settled for around 50% of the original balance, you now owe Freedom a service fee which can be quite hefty. I can see how this company must make loads of money off of the generationally poor, people who might lack a basic financial education. What a bunch of sharks!

When you do the math that is more than $32000. They say that the estimate payment might change but I'm skeptical now. I received two court summons too but this company doesn't even tell me what to do. I only owe $26000 in my credit card debts but I'm paying more than I owe right now. I enrolled in the program in 2011 with a large amount of debt after a failed business and death of my spouse. They were awesome. They were supportive, helpful and got started settling my debts straight away. One of my debts was very large and the monthly payment amount was tripled after their settlement offer. It was difficult but with the help of family I was able to make these payments. I made these $$$ payments 2012 and all of 2012. In Feb of 2013 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. No insurance and not eligible for financial aid. No medicare, no medicaid. I could not keep up the (in excess of $1000) monthly payments and asked if they could reduce or suspend until I could find a solution. I needed the money to pay for chemotherapy and to purchase health care.

I received a very nice letter advising that was not an option and the account would close and any monies would be returned. Keep in mind I am a very sick little girl by now. Ok so (my bad) I assumed all monies would be paid to the creditors and they would explain my situation accordingly to help me through this time. Never heard from them again. I am now being sued by all the creditors for the full amounts - no monies have been applied. Where did the money go? I never received a dime. I have been contacting them for days. Each time I get the automated response. I am days from referring this to a higher power.

This has been the WORST experience I have ever had with a company. If you are thinking of doing business with them, think twice and take your business elsewhere. They started out great, always very helpful and quick to answer my questions. But about the time I was facing my SECOND lawsuit with Discover, they became completely unhelpful and frustrating to deal with. Somehow it was impossible for them to comprehend that I was being sued a SECOND time for an account that had already been settled. I emailed, I called, each time I would get a different answer from an employee that clearly had no idea what they were doing. I tried for months to get them to help get this issue worked out, they did nothing. I requested copies of what they had paid on my behalf to Discover, they never provided it (which is incredibly suspicious if you ask me).

Finally I had to get my own attorney involved and spend additional money on top of what I am paying this scam of a business to get it taken care of. So now they finally settled my last account for $700. They tell me it will be taken care of in six payments. Only problem is I am paying them $259 twice a month. If we do the math that totals $1813… more than I owed in the first place. I know they take their cut, but here is where it gets even more shady.

I currently have $2000 in my account with them. Why are they still taking $518 a month from me when the money is already in my account? Does this mean they are going to keep this additional $2000 for themselves? When am I finally done with this scam of a program? And WHY did I enroll with $20,059 in debt and have paid in $19,073… Allegedly all of my accounts were settled for thousands less than what I actually owed. How much are they collecting for themselves and why are we not given any access to see this?

All questions that I have asked in the last THREE emails that have gone unanswered. Suddenly they refuse to answer my emails when I am questioning their actions. I want to drop out of this program but I have no idea what they have actually been doing with my money and how much they claim I still owe them. How can anyone trust a company that won't be honest with what they are doing? I will tell everyone I know as well as anyone I even hear mention the name of this company to NOT do business with them. You will most certainly regret it and you will not save any money. Go with any other company!!!

So the first person I talked to that set everything up for me was great and I decided to go with the program.. I set it up to make my payments come out on the 26th of the month and that would start on June 26th. He said if I needed to change that to call back a certain amount of time before the payment came out. I literally Called back two days later and said that I needed to change it to July 26th.. A guy named Titrail ** sent me a form via Docusign and I signed and returned it. I then called back to verify with a random agent that it had been received and that the money would not be pulled in June.

A woman called me randomly one day (since I was new to the program) and asked if I had any questions about the program.. I then asked again if that payment would be on July 26th again, and she responded with "Let me check that out," and I went on hold. She came back momentarily and said that they would not be pulling. On June 26th I received notification from my bank that I was below 50.00 and I checked and realized that they pulled the money anyways. I called immediately and they said it would take up to a week to refund so I placed a stop payment with my bank.. That was 30.00. It backfired and they canceled the stop payment and then the money still went to them and it caused my checking to overdraft and I got more fees. Finally I call back and ask them (for the millionth time) for a refund and I kept getting people telling me different things and finally I got one that understood my situation and she promised a refund in 3 days.

3 days came and nothing and I called back and got a different rep and he said 3 more days. I waited 3 more days and nothing and then I call back getting a rude customer service rep that says I have to contact the bank they use. They made me wait that whole week for nothing. SO instead of their bank putting the money into my account I had to wait a week for a check to be mailed to me and when I got it, they shorted me $20.00. So this company (AT FAULT) pulled money from me without me authorizing it and cost me up to $50.00 in fees with my bank and took 20.00 from the money I put in. They are all on different pages and they are very unprofessional. I canceled out of the program and I still had to call them a million times! DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR MONEY!

After a few calls I was told that I needed over 14k but I had 6k in my account. So that left a balance of over 8k but for me to call back and get the exact amount the next day. I called back and was given a number of $8,911.00 to close my account. They also emailed me this same amount of $8,911.00.

I got the funds instructed by FDR and when I called back for them to pull that amount from my bank account they flipped the script and said I still needed 14k. So I needed over 5k MORE THAN I WAS GIVING! Now I'm stuck, can't get more funds and can't close the account! Talked with Supervisor Meesha and did not get any help. Meesha called me back and left a message to call her and the CS reps will not put me through. They keep saying they will email her. NO HELP & NO INTEGRITY! FDR screwed me really bad. I entered into an agreement with Freedom Debt Relief and I knew going in that my credit would crash but, after the completion of the program, my accounts would be settled and I could rebuild. I was informed by FDR that some banks may insist on settling with us but was instructed to let them deal with the banks because they always settle. Well after 2-1/2 years the only holdout, Chase Bank, refused to work with a 3rd party and we were issued a debt cancellation 1099-C for the entire $11,000 debt which is a bad mark on our credit. I immediately sent the information to FDR and they responded saying they would review my case and settle my account for closure.

That was March 26th 2015. It is now July 4th and still no closure and no communication. The problem is that they have $3,500 of my money and my account has not been updated in over 8 months because there is nothing to report on. We filed our 2015 taxes and had a total of $4,500 tax debt and after 3 months of repeated calls to FDR, I am so frustrated because everyone I talk to assures me that they will forward my case on to a higher supervisory level for review and settlement. The most frustrating part is that I always have to give them all my information even though my file contains all the notes they need and every representative does finally see the problem. However, they apparently have no regard for their customer, they only have my money, which I desperately need.

I have also had to regularly request a deferred draft payment of $408 from my account because they continue the auto draft. The last rep I spoke to was finally able to stop the draft payments altogether but another 2 weeks and still no response from FDR. I did receive one settlement offer from them for the Chase account which infuriated me. How can they claim to have a settlement with a bank that had already cancelled the entire debt and left a bad mark on my credit with no support from FDR, and yet FDR is trying to take credit (and my money) for negotiating an agreement.

As of now my account shows that I am behind $1,200 on my obligation, due to my missed payments. Could that be why they're delaying closing my account? I did inform them several weeks ago that if they didn't settle my account I would submit a bad review. Apparently they're trying to figure out how much of my money to keep. Stay away from these shysters!

I think you guys try to do good work, and I think you also are pretty upfront about what it's going to cost. However, somehow, my expectations were not really in line with how these "resolutions" shake out. Probably should have done this math first: I submit to the program an amount, say, $14,000 on X date, and a number of months later you (and I together, it turns out) manage to negotiate a settlement on that of, say, $5,500. That's a principal reduction of 60.7%, which sounds REALLY great! However, there is the matter of the fee... about $3000 or 21% of the original balance. That takes the "savings" down to about $5500 or about 30 percent. Now the kicker... During the time it took from joining to settling, the debt was jacked up by the bank from 14K to 19K.

So, taking a $5500 settlement for a 19K balance, they then report 1099 "forgiven debt" income to the IRS of $13,500... upon which I gotta cough up a 40% tax payment, or about $5,400. So, I started out owing 14K, and the amount I wind up paying is 5500 + 3000 +5400 = 13,900. That's a savings of $100. So, I took my credit rating from 710 to basically 0, and I saved $100. I am having difficulty seeing this from a positive viewpoint. Perhaps you have a different way of looking at it?

FDR has already taken over $4,436.00 in settlement fees from $10,621 in payments that I have made since joining the program September 2014. In addition, they charge me a $7.25 monthly account fee along $10.00 and $3.00 fees for making phone payments, etc. I am very concerned about how my money is being applied, especially when bill collectors are contacting me and the bills in question could have been paid out of the money FDR has received in my account already! Their results (paid in full) thus far certainly do not warrant $4,436.00 in payments. I have asked for a detailed explanation of each of the settlement fee payments taken thus far and what bill they are applied against.

Updated 7/16/2015 - On June 23, 2015, I filed a dissatisfaction review regarding how FDR is taking fees before debts are being paid in full. I was contacted and later provided a document outlining fees collected vis-a-vis accounts paid. I have contacted FDR to express my continued frustration with their fee extortion system. Furthermore, I was contacted recently by companies advising they do not work with FDR-like companies. Thus, my monthly payments need to be adjusted downward because two of the accounts totaling almost $9,000 are being paid by me. I have sent them emails regarding these matters. Thus far, I have received no response to either of my two emails! It seems that I will have to use this vehicle as the means to get responsiveness to my concerns.

We enrolled our debt which had become overwhelming to us with Freedom Financial in April 2015. They have already negotiated a 50% reduction on one of our accounts and if things keep going this way we will be very grateful and happy customers. Our debt got out of hand when things changed with my husband's health and our jobs. We are both retired now and the need to pay off this debt became critical when the news regarding my husband's health prognosis was not good.

I knew we had to get help so we took a chance and it seems to be working. We are looking forward to more settlements in the future and we have already restructured our spending and no longer use credit. It will take some time to work this out and we expected that but I feel as long as we are doing our part they seem to be quite efficient at doing theirs which takes a huge burden off of us. Thank you Freedom Financial. We had not had to do this before so there was of course a worry about it actually working but we believe now we made the right choice for us.

Overall the average time to complete our program is 36-48 months. Someone from Client Services will contact you today to review your accounts, progress and answer any questions you have.

I cannot register for an account in order to keep abreast on what is happening. Each time I register it says that it will send a confirmation email but I never get it which prevents the finalization of the registration process. I have brought this up to customer service which I was told that they would register me and I could change the password but that never happened. They also took money from my account which made my bank account to be overdrawn and they said they would return the funds but never did.

After losing a great job, I found myself only making about a third of my previous salary. Within a few months, bills started getting tough to pay. I needed help. I didn't want to "beat" anyone out of what I owed them but I simply couldn't pay everything. When I enrolled with Freedom Financial, I felt that finally there was someone on my side, helping me to get some relief. However, I received notice that both American Express, and Discover, were filing a lawsuit against me.

When I called to tell Freedom Financial their response was "We are not legal representation" and I would have to decide what I needed to do about those lawsuits. I tried to handle it myself but quickly became overwhelmed with all the documents I was receiving. SO, I had to hire lawyers to represent me. Now, I couldn't afford to pay both the lawyers and Freedom Debt Relief, so tried to reduce the amount I was paying Freedom Financial. I was told that if they could not maintain the monthly amount in my account that the accounts that had "settled" then they would not be paid and would null and void our agreements. The situation was at a point where if I had the funds to pay both Freedom and my lawyers, I could have been paying my debts myself.

AT that point, my lawyer advised me that the best plan for me was to file for bankruptcy. I contacted the bank that held the account that was set up for my debt settlements and closed that account and was told the money left in that account would be credited back to me (since that money belongs to me). Well no money was returned to me and when I questioned the bank about the funds, I was informed that Freedom Financial had taken the funds from that account for their "fees". Now I understand that the company is in business to make money, that they work on my behalf and deserve to be paid for those efforts; however, in my case all that was accomplished was my being sued.

When I dropped out of the program, I would have thought that ended our relationship and to be charged another round of fees amounting to several hundred dollars seems shady and underhanded. At a time when understanding that their efforts had done nothing to help me resolve my difficulties (except getting me sued) and appreciating the fact that every dime is important at this point, it seems to me that their only concern is collecting their " fees". Where is the CONCERN and COMPASSION they brag so much about? Apparently those are just words designed to appease their clients' concerns and are not really practiced.

SO in review...I get to PAY for a year of my time being wasted since I still have to file for bankruptcy. None of my accounts have been settled, since I'm now out of the program AND their biggest concern is the collection of their FEES. Understand, I'm not trying to blame them for how things have worked out. I'm just trying to appreciate how you justify collecting fees for a job that didn't accomplish any of the goals that it was designed to accomplish. So...BE AWARE...BE CAUTIOUS and unfortunately DON'T TRUST THEM to do the RIGHT THING because ultimately "they need to be paid" whether they "help" or not.
