What is Bread Financial?

Comenity Bank and Comenity Capital Bank have rebranded to Bread Financial, a fintech platform providing credit cards, loans and high-yield savings products.

Traditionally, Comenity Bank primarily offered co-branded credit cards and rewards programs with stores like AAA, Victoria’s Secret and Ulta. Today, it also offers a high-yield savings account, certificates of deposit (CDs), a cash-back credit card, personal loans and a buy now, pay later service under its new name, Bread Financial.

How does Bread Financial work?

As a tech-forward financial company, Bread Financial lets you open an account online in just a few minutes. You’ll need your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number and government-issued photo ID to complete your application.

You can expect low fees and high-yields at Bread Financial. Its savings and CDs are federally insured up to $250,000.

Bread Financial products and services

Bread Financial has five types of products: a savings account, CDs, credit cards, a personal loan and a buy now, pay later service.

Bread Savings
The Bread Savings account comes with a 4.25% annual percentage yield (APY) as of publication. It has a $100 minimum opening deposit and no monthly fee. It’s a good choice if you’re trying to build an emergency fund or save up for a short-term goal and want a safe place to grow your money.
Bread CDs
Bread CDs earn competitive interest rates and have $1,500 minimum opening deposits. You have a 10-day grace period at the end of your term to adjust or cash out your CD before it renews.

At the time of publishing, Bread CDs have these terms and interest rates:

  • 1-year CD earns 5.00% APY
  • 2-year CD earns 4.75% APY
  • 3-year CD earns 4.50% APY
  • 4-year CD earns 4.35% APY
  • 5-year CD earns 4.25% APY
Bread Cashback Credit Card
With the Bread Cashback American Express Credit Card, you earn unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases — no caps or category opt-ins required. This card has no annual fee and comes with all the protections and benefits you’d get as an American Express customer, including ID theft insurance, dining discounts and more.
Bread Loan
With Bread Loan, you can get a personal loan of up to $35,000 with fixed rates as low as 6.99% APR (annual percentage rate). This loan is best used to consolidate credit card debt. There are no application or origination fees and terms range from 24 to 60 months. In most cases, you’ll get an instant decision.

At the time of publishing, you can only apply for a Bread Loan if you’ve received a direct offer; it’s not yet open to the general public.

Bread Pay
Bread Pay is a buy now, pay later service that lets you split the price of a purchase up over time. You’ll generally see this payment option appear when checking out with select retailers that support Bread Pay.

Bread Financial fees

Bread Financial has no monthly maintenance fees or incoming wire transfer fees. There’s also no annual fee for its credit card or origination fees for its loan.

However, Bread Financial does charge fees for the following:

  • $25 for outgoing wire transfers
  • $15 for official check requests
  • $5 for paper statement requests

If you have a Bread CD, you may pay an early withdrawal penalty if you need to access your funds early. This fee is equal to 180 days of simple interest on one to three-year terms and 365 days of simple interest on four and five-year terms.

Bread Financial FAQ

Does Bread Financial use Zelle?

No. Because Bread Financial doesn’t offer any checking accounts, it doesn’t partner with Zelle to allow you to send and receive payments from friends and family.

Is Comenity Bank now Bread Financial?

Yes, Comenity Bank and Comenity Direct have rebranded to Bread Financial. If you have any current Comenity Bank accounts, you should see the logo and branding update in the near future.

How do I contact Bread Financial customer service?

If you have questions about Bread Financial or Comenity Bank accounts, you can reach customer service by phone at 1-855-796-9632.

What is the current rate for Bread Savings?

Bread Savings currently has an APY of 4.25%. This rate compounds daily and gets credited to your account monthly.

Still have questions?

Is Bread Financial legit?

Yes, Bread Financial, previously known as Comenity Bank, is a legitimate financial institution dedicated to providing low-cost lending and savings products. It’s FDIC-insured, meaning your money is protected for up to $250,000 if the bank fails.

There are many fintech platforms in the banking space. Bread Financial is an option if you want a low-fee savings account or CD that earns a competitive interest rate, or if you’re looking for a cash-back credit card with no annual fee or reward caps.

I have multiple issues with this institution. 1. My monthly payments were set to $65. All of the sudden they charged me $2,829.94 - the full balance of my loan. This came out of my business checking account and I overdrafted. I called and was promised this was fixed. Several days later I got my money refunded, obviously I was charged a bank fee for this. So time out of my day to fix both their overdraft mistake and the fee that was their fault. Then, after the money had been returned, they charged this same amount to my same account AGAIN!!!! This is after I talked with them on the phone to fix it, after it had already been refunded, I was charged AGAIN. So more overdraft fees. And no money to run my small business.

I cannot believe a company of this size would make such large mistakes several times. For people who are wealthier than me, I would fear they are just robbing you blind. So in addition to the stress caused from them charging $2.8k TWICE, I had to take time off of work (unpaid because I work for myself) to fix this issue, I’m losing money because of them.

    2. Their loans in general are predatory. They set it up so that the min payment is far less than what’s needed to keep you from getting exorbitant fees. My loan was for $5k for laser eye surgery. I paid above the min payment every time, however I ended up with about $3k in fees because it wasn’t fully paid by the time they had chosen for the agreement. (Trying to remember the timeline here but I think I realized the issue all of 2 days late and paid in full at that time.) If they made the monthly payment the right amount, I would have more money to my name. Instead, I’m still living paycheck to paycheck, no thanks to these selfish fools. I cannot believe I have had to dedicate this much time out of my life to fix problems made by this company.

I have banked with a lot of banks, but the service at Bread Financial is the absolute worst. Banking with them is frustrating because they are so bleeping slow, and they rarely reach out to you directly by phone to straighten out an issue. They send hints via their secure message service, where the individual messages that make up a conversation take about a day each, such that it ends up taking about four times longer to do anything there as compared to somewhere else. One of their workers even mistook a withdrawal request for a deposit request even with explicit instructions about how to handle their check writing fee and to whom the check was made payable. If you want control of your money, bank somewhere else. Getting them to handle your banking is more like fighting a battle than simple business. On the up side, maybe A.I. will be used to eliminate the insanely ineffective staff they have there in the near future.

Initiated a wire transfer three days ago — funds still have not been credited to my account. Three days for a wire transfer completely defeats the purpose of the service. I manage multiple commercial accounts across several banks, and I have never experienced this kind of delay anywhere else. No proactive communication, no updates, no urgency whatsoever. If you value your time and your money, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. I certainly cannot recommend this institution to any of my colleagues or business associates based on this experience.

I was trying to purchase furniture from Raymour & Flanigan through my union for a discount. They had recently switched over to Comenity Bank/Bread Financial as their finance company. The representative told me to go online & apply for the financing. I went through the process & received a message to call to verify my identity. I called, but I wasn't getting the texts the customer service representative was trying to send me (This was during a nationwide Verizon outage). She rudely said that it's the only way to verify my identity and time was up. I asked if I could call later & try again also and she said no, this was my only chance.

I called later anyway because I knew I'd get a new rep. I still wasn't getting the texts so she said I could verify my identity by providing some documentation. I immediately scanned & sent them in to the email address she provided but they had to be reviewed and it would take days I called again the next day and I was able to verify my identity using the text method. I spoke with Raymour and the purchase was pushed through & I was told it would be interest free for 12 months.

A few days later I got a letter in the mail from Comenity stating my account was closed for not providing necessary documentation. When I logged onto the website, I saw that they were charging me monthly interest. I reached out to them several times via message & phone & they just spewed out information about my account & failed to rectify anything. A few days ago my balance was paid off in full before the due date. Like many others, I was hit with an interest charge after my payment went through. I called to ask about it and he said it was from the previous month. I asked for it to be waved since I wasn't supposed to be charged interest and he said no. Their customer service reps are extremely rude & don't listen. This is a greedy, sneaky company.

After hiring a lawyer we learned the check had indeed been cashed but 3 months later. So these predators sent us invoices for not only the check but an additional 5 k interest. After we provided the check from the bank we now realized they were trying to not only collect 5 k interest but kept sending an invoice for what we had paid. They claimed it was the POST OFFICE. It doesn’t take 3 months for a letter delivery. So now we are filing a small claims lawsuit. Patricia ** is the patient and my partner.. It's disgusting what he have done.

This company doesn't deserve ANY stars! This card is used so I can extend my payment terms as allowed by the CC company to purchase my NFL team's tickets. What I run into is they received a payment that is late, claiming it was received via US Mail. My payments are ALL electronic and ALWAYS on time! Once they acknowledge the payment was received correctly on time, I have to fight to get my incorrectly added late fee and interest charges removed.

And then the next month, they put an interest charge on showing part of a balance incorrectly added to balance that was correctly paid on time, and take you out of their "good graces" putting this interest penalty on, when it was ALL THERE FAULT to begin with! This is on top of fighting 18 months to get a payment that was CORRECTLY sent but never posted. I finally sent all my documentation not only to the CC office but to the president of the company to get this resolved. Bottomline, if you can find a CC that does what you want than this one, take it!

I paid off my $1600 balance in full -- plus $200 towards the new balance -- in a half dozen payments. They were spread across six days or so at the beginning of March, 2026. I wanted to clear room for further purchases; lock myself into earmarking these funds as they became available to ensure paying off this rather-high balance and obviating any interest charges.

Bread has noted these payments accurately and my bank shows that all of these debits have cleared. $1000 in my credit line is still not available and I have made two phone calls about this issue. This time I spoke with a supervisor. He has no agency. No ability to override the system. His role as supervisor is simply towards those under him. His explanation was that any payment over $500 "had to be reviewed," and my mistake was having made a payment of over $500 that put all of the other payments "under review" as well.

What this means in practice is that if you have a balance of over $500 and pay it in full, you will not have access to your full credit line for ten days. My grocery purchase of $66 was rejected even though my balance was approximately $1000 below my credit line -- and even though these funds had been debited from my bank account. Then my automatic car insurance payment suffered the same fate. I suspect that this company never wants its customers to pay their balance in full! Paradoxically, I was not asked if I would like a credit line increase, which might have been to their advantage by luring me into a situation where I would then be less capable of paying my balance in full. Writ large, this certainly would be the case for some / many of their customers.

I did an experiment with the supervisor and paid $100 on a Sunday when the ACH system does not process transactions. I got $100 of credit immediately and when this transfer is simply a promise! Their two percent cash back is their salient good point. I also very much liked their $200 sign-on bonus. Amex has excellent customer service. Bread is debasing Amex's brand. If you want customer service with agency when unexpected things happen, go with the original, not a pale replica.

I look online but I can’t log in without the account number which I don’t have without the card or statement. Come Jan. I see a report for Comenity Bank on my credit report. I search for the customer service number and the agent I speak to says she can’t help without me having the account number, so I’ll have to wait for the new card to make a payment or dispute interest and late fees.

It has been 3 weeks, still no card and statement, I call customer service again, this time I’m told the first agent I spoke to was incorrect. Something on their end prevented the cards and statement from being sent. The best they can do is remove some of the additional charges but it’s my responsibility for the others. A $72 bill ended up costing me $96 because I didn’t babysit them. I’d still be getting interest and late fees applied if I didn’t hunt them down to take care of it. Absolutely ridiculous business practices. Feel crooked and underhanded. I will never sign up for another credit card from this bank.

I am writing to express significant concern regarding recent charges applied to my account with Kay Jewelers and Comenity Bank/Bread Financial. Specifically, I was recently subjected to unexpected interest charges. Upon switching to paperless billing, I was not notified that interest would subsequently be applied to the balance throughout the year. As a result, a full year's worth of interest was added to my statement. I am very dissatisfied with this process and the lack of clear communication regarding the financial implications of opting for paperless billing. I request an immediate review of these charges and clarification on how this interest was calculated and applied without prior notification.

Bread Financial denied my application claiming my “internal credit score” is 490, despite my actual credit score being 840. The stated reasons were baffling: too few credit cards, balances that are “too low,” paying cards off in full every month, and a supposedly high percentage of recent credit inquiries even though I haven’t allowed a hard pull in the last three years and my credit is always frozen. In addition to all that, they were out of compliance with their Notice of Credit decision not sent out on time (within the 30 days they should be sending it from the day I started my application), and this was sent to the CFPB to handle.

If paying on time, keeping balances low, and avoiding unnecessary credit inquiries are somehow negatives, that’s a serious red flag. Had I known these were considered disqualifying, I never would have authorized a credit check. I was simply applying for a 5% grocery cash back card, not expecting to be penalized for responsible financial behavior.

This experience suggests their approval model favors less financially disciplined customers who carry balances and generate interest, rather than those who manage credit well. I won’t be doing any business with Bread Financial, and I’m sharing this so others with strong credit profiles don’t waste a hard inquiry learning the same lesson.

You're talking to reps overseas who you can barely understand. I called to report a fraudulent charge and went back and forth with my wife six times because the account is in her name but I, her husband, takes care of the finances. Een though she told him six times it was ok to talk to me but they insisted to talk to her anyway. Finally I was told it would take 90 days to resolve. A legitimate company like Chase would give you credit right away. I cannot believe a company like AE would be associated with them. I got so upset I had to call my doctor for anxiety medication (I am 76 years old). If something happens to me I instructed my attorney to file a lawsuit.

I had a AAA Signature Card through Comenity Bank owned by Bread Financial. By far the worst experience with a credit card company. There were multiple instances of a complete lack of customer service and support. I asked to close the account, but it took me awhile to remember everything it was set up to autopay. I thought I had paid it in full when one last charge of $21.71 came through. Once that account was fixed, I was ready to pay in full and close it out. There were 22 cents in rewards left on the account. With this card like every other, I put the rewards against my balance in order to pay less. I tried several times to redeem the rewards so I could pay in full the balance of $21.49.

I sent several messages when I couldn’t get the transaction to get through. There was no response nor did I ever receive an error message or anything to tell me WHY the system wasn’t working as it normally did. So I paid $21.49 and asked my account to be closed. Soon I got a bill for over $45.00. They had assessed a late fee plus interest on the TWENTY TWO CENTS. I have spent hours trying to resolve this. Apparently they don’t allow redemptions of less than $5.00 in rewards. I had previously redeemed smaller amounts than $5.00. ALSO I argued that on a final balance everything should be applied. They would not balance out the bill. Not only would no-one help me, people were increasingly rude and unhelpful, treating me like a criminal over TWENTY TWO CENTS.

To be honest, I didn’t want to pay the twenty cents on principal, but I would have paid it to end this, but they were insistent on collecting every penny of late fees and interest. I absolutely did not feel that should be the case. I tried reaching out to the executive office since customer service reps are clearly limited in what they are able to do.

Finally after reaching out to Executives at Bread Financial I got a form letter that literally doubles down on the fact that they are correct to add late fees and interest to the original TWENTY TWO CENTS that they are correct to negatively affect me credit, and that there is nothing I can do. The balance is now over $240.00. They expect to collect more than $240 of late fees and interest on a TWENTY TWO CENT balance that should have been covered by my remaining rewards. They gave ZERO SUPPORT for fraudulent charges and ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. This may or may not be legally OK…but it is a TERRIBLE way to do business.

DO NOT EVER GET A MICHAELS CREDIT CARD!! I will refuse to pay and let it stay in collections. I hope to repost this daily to warn as many people as possible.

I got the Bread Cashback card for the 2% but recently decided it's just not worth it. Customer service is awful and run outside the US, Many times I can't understand the person on the other end and a few times I have been flat out lied to. I had a dispute that took 3 months to get resolved and still after being told I won the dispute I still don't have the over $500 credit in my account. I will use the credit as a purchase for travel and then close the account. The App is limited in its functions so there is no way to communicate for assistance without the phone call into a terrible automated system and non-English speaking agents. Terrible - Stay away!

Horrible credit card practices. Caesars Rewards Visa cannot even be used at all for over a week if you pay a payment more than 50% of your credit limit. The rules are unlike any other credit card I have.

This company lacks integrity. They closed my account without my knowledge and then demanded that I paid the balance after stating that a credit reporting agency told them my account was being reported as fraudulent. Which was a lie, I contacted all the reporting agencies which they denied it would have to come from them. Then once I submitted a complaint to the CFPB they claimed that they can close anyone's account without warning according to their small print. I never signed up for them. I signed up for Capital One through Saks. Saks hired this company being cheap and they took over their accounts which they are doing a terrible job. I had a $4500 credit limit and now they have ruined my reputation. It's going on 5 months now and I am still fighting and challenging this issue. Do not get a cc with Bread Financial aka Comenity Bank. Terrible company.

Extremely Disappointed with Bread Rewards Customer Service. I have been a responsible cardholder with Bread Rewards for a long time — never missed a payment, and I consistently pay well above the minimum due. Despite this strong track record, I was recently charged a $30 late fee, which was both unexpected and frustrating. When I contacted customer service to dispute the charge, I was offered a one-time courtesy of just $15 — not even the full amount. I asked to speak with a manager, thinking they might recognize my loyalty and history. Unfortunately, the experience only worsened. The manager was dismissive, patronizing, and repeatedly used phrases like, "I'm sorry you're feeling this way," which felt more like a script than genuine support.

Let me be clear: I was not asking for pity — I was asking for fairness. A long-time customer with a spotless payment history should not be nickel-and-dimed over a $30 fee, especially when it's the first and only incident. Their lack of flexibility and empathy speaks volumes. If you're considering this card, be aware: Good customer behavior doesn't seem to count for much here. I’m seriously reconsidering my relationship with this company.

Do not trust any agreements that this Bread Financial (Comenity NFL Card) makes to you. They renege on agreements that you make with them, and are not willing to work with you. Sarah the supervisor in the collection department was rude and unprofessional. I admit that I was irritated after she was not even willing to listen to why I was upset. I was accused of using foul language with I never did and then she hung up on me. I am also in customer service in a supervisory role and have never been treated with such disrespect. I have closed all my account with Comenity and will never do business with them again in the future. I would advise anyone else considering them to seek other options.

Just paid 106$ for 3 months of late fees with last purchased paid off 10 days after purchase.

I have had this American Express cash back card for 4 months and there is pending charges that should have fallen off a month ago! The merchant released the hold the same day but yet Bread Financial will not remove the charges! Are you fricken kidding me! Wow 😮 2nd of all I have cash rewards saved up and wanted to redeem some. The only way you can redeem rewards is a statement credit but if you're last statement balance was $15 that's all you can use ? So if you had a $200 statement balance then you can use $200 but they leave that on there all month long so if you owe $100 but the last statement balance was $10 you can only use $10 even if you have $300 in rewards banked up! What a fricken racket they got going on! So I requested a direct deposit into my bank account and they said no problem and it will take 7-10 days!

I been waiting 2 weeks and still no deposit! I called Many times about both of the issues and even gotten management on the phone and they keep telling me not to worry and all is taken care of! Now they tell me no one ever processed my direct deposit and will need to do it all over and I'll have to wait several more days to process again! All I can say is absolutely horrible, horrible, horrible customer service and they're all a bunch of liars! I pay my balance on all my cards in full and never Carry a balance! When they want their money it comes out of your bank account real quick but when they gotta pay out it's a frickin joke and they don't give a crap about good customers that pay their bills! Wish I never got this card!

Today I've done all that and still it tells me the info is wrong, when it is 100% correct info. I'm sick of it. I'm not going to make blind payments and not be able to review my account.

Bread Financial is the company that handles the credit cards for two different businesses. The first is a pet company and the second is a shoe company. Well, the shoe company received the credit and did credit my account; however, the amount fell short by 71 cents. For two month, I was charged $35 late which equals $70 plus the 71 cents. Now the pet company, I've been trying for weeks to access my account as far as choosing a new password and nothing seems to be working. One agent said it would take 48 hours for the new password to populate. Another agent said it would take 10 business days. Worst of all, the new password showed up on the sign in of the shoe company.

Comenity charged me recurring $30 late fees and interest on a Bread Cashback® Amex that showed a $0 balance—no purchases, no warning, just silent billing. They have over 500 one-star reviews on BBB describing identical abusive fee patterns: **. It gets worse—they faced an FDIC settlement resulting in a $53 million refund, and multiple lawsuits for deceptive and abusive charges: **. When I asked them to reverse the fees, they denied it. This is predatory billing, not customer service. Stay away.

The worst, horrible...I had no idea I was being charged 35% interest as I never got a statement. It is IMPOSSIBLE to call them as every number you get is wrong or disconnected. That cannot find your account and continue to charge you. The people you speak have no authority to do anything but take a payment and say is there anything else I can do when they do nothing. Horrible, I cannot even pay it off because they still want more interest after.

I had my Victoria Secret card for almost 20 years. I didn’t use my card for about a year due to a female-related illness- no point in buying underwear just for it to be ruined. I’m in remission and went to buy all new underwear. When I tried to pay I found my card had been cancelled for inactivity?!?! I had even called to request, and received, a new card a few weeks earlier. No warning, or any notification the account was subject to being closed. I tried to call customer service for help. They require you to enter your card number. I couldn’t get beyond the prompts for assistance because when I entered my account, I would get an automated message my account was closed and they’d hang up. Very frustrating and disappointing.

Stay Away — This Company is a Scam! I opened a Kay Jewelers Card through Financial Bread and was lured in by their promotion of "no interest for 18 months." What they don’t tell you up front is that the interest is deferred, not waived — meaning if you don’t pay off the entire balance by the end of 18 months, they hit you with all of the accumulated interest from day one! No one ever clearly explained this to me when I opened the account. To make matters worse, they conveniently enrolled me in paperless billing without my consent, so I never saw a physical statement that might have warned me about these terms. This feels like a deliberate trap to mislead customers. I strongly urge others to avoid this card and this company. There are far more honest financing options out there.

The Woman Within credit card is absolutely awful! They charge $3 a month and if you are late, even just a few days they will put it on Experion and Transunion as a delinquent account, even placing that mess on the same day as you make a payment!! When calling the credit card company they'll tell you they fixed it ... but check again because they probably didn't change anything on your account and leaving that crap on your credit score, even when they promised to take it off. Woman within credit card is now canceled. I will not deal with that mess ever again and now will never shop that store either. If anyone has these issues with them dispute your issue with each credit company, transunion and esperion. The credit reporting companies will fix it with the dispute. I'll never deal with or shop woman within ever again! Absolutely a scam!
