My billing cycle is on the 2nd day of the month and on the 1st day of the month my online statement stated that I had $200 credit available. Therefore, on the 1st, I charged $100. On the 2nd day of the month, Chase calculated my interest owed ($180) which exceeded the balance credit available remaining and therefore, caused me to exceed my total credit limit. They charged me a fee of $39 with the intent of increasing my interest rate. The only way that I could have avoided this would have been to calculate the interest on the 1st that would be due on the 2nd. I phoned the company and they waived all the charges and did not increase my interest rate. It's unfortunate that many people are not able to receive a reversal that I received.

I have an Chase reward credit card through Amazon.com. I pay this card in full every 2 weeks, and never carry a balance. I've never gotten a late fee from them until recently. My payment is due on the 29th of every month, and I paid the card in full on 6/6. Between 6/7 and 6/29 I carried exactly a $30 balance, and Chase charged me a $15 late fee.
When I called them the said the couldn't waive the fee and were fine with me closing the account. Apparently, this is there way of getting rid of customers that can afford to pay their credit cards and can't make any money from. I'll never use them again, totally dishonest, shady business practice.

Today is July 15, our latest abuse/we-promise-to-close cycle began on May 2. Only the statements, from credit reporting agencies and Chase Visa, continues to show "their almost invisible actions." On June 10, just in time to be reported to other agencies, they CREDITED our CLOSED ACCOUNT $30--the amount of the last "non-bounced" check that they had attempted collections on in May. Then 3 days later, June 13, they debited this $30 credit. Our records show NO CONTACT with any Chase rep after May 27, but customer service claims "calls" from our home in June (beginning Monday June 2, when my records show NEITHER of us were "at home"). Our cat died while we were still fighting this, no human was at our home--do we have talking mice? We have been struggling with Chase problems for over a year and a half, we want a Chase Visa account (and non-functioning insurance) CANCELED. After 15 months, they finally remove the insurance; but until the statements end we do not believe this is out of our lives (17 months and they still are coming).
We should have believed negative reports online or from acquaintances who had quietly mentioned Chase problems. My hubby, who used to think he was smarter and that we were "abler" than those who developed a "chase problem" has sworn off new credit card offers no matter how tempting and I believe that Chase VISA will continue honing their shoddy business practices for as long as they attract enough "fools born every minute" and those who "think they are smarter". The continuing influx of false fees easily pays for a new string of customer service dupes to fleece the foolish.
My husband opened a second credit card, small trial account w/Chase after receiving a mailing shortly before he became ill in 2006 and was hospitalized for several months. We were initially relaxed as his balance was only a few hundred dollars and that would be taken care of by the "insurance" that Chase sold him with the card. Since HUBBY was hospitalized, and often unable to speak to the rep. They neither called our home or answered calls or sent statements.
I had my own cards, and while this was ODD--as long as the insurance paperwork went through I just put it down to Chase privacy and I did not want to take over his account and give up the insurance benefits that he had paid for on it--neither of us were worried as Chase customer service assured us and the forms for his disability continued to arrive for his doctors. We had never used this card insurance before, so initial answers were acceptable. Six months later, a month before he was to complete his treatment/therapy, my husband contacted Chase himself to find out why the monthly medical form had not arrived, and he was concerned about not receiving any statements (a matter he had me request info on for two months prior without any luck). He struggled then asked them to talk to me about this.
Their NEW answers ruined our holidays and almost sent him back to bed: 1. several months earlier the "insurance" had stopped paying but continued sending forms and no one had contacted us; 2. they now asked if he could please "catch up" the $450+ in charges related to this; 3. the previous request was repeated, by their Collections department, in a DAWN CALL a few days later even as a "manager" checked on our problem. After more calls to Chase and their outside insurance company, we were told that copies of the doctor's forms would not help nor would they reinstate his insurance without the late fees being "paid off". Hubby negotiated that amount down from $450 to $150 in a strained voice and I delivered a check to the local bank.
By the time it was settled, we no longer needed the medical forms as he had completed his initial treatment, and, while still disabled, his new goal was to pay off this card and argue about odd charges. CANCELING the card and the mock-credit-card insurance was more difficult than it should have been. This took over a year and several major confrontations that negatively affected our credit ratings. Chase reported payment errors, "bounced" checks (that MY bank never rejected), and late fees even when the faux balance was paid before a due date. This was NOT a "joint account". THEIR ABUSE has increased the interest on MY current personal and business credit cards from a past 3.4-12.3% all the way up to 22.3-35% WITH NO LATE PAYMENTS. I am lucky, I can put away my OLD cards and open NEW lower rate interest cards but even that move lowers my (and our) credit score. We had planned to buy a handicapped-accessible home this year, but with these errors affecting our rates we will stay where we are for a few more years.
The CHASE ERRORS were a learning experience in how the actions of one incompetent company with poor customer service can add stress and/or destroy lives. WE ARE VERY LUCKY. My husband notes that if he did not have me available to fight this for him he might never have been able to end the nightmare or have had another stroke. We lost hundreds of dollars in an ugly learning experience, but are still here with a few resources left. With his health (and voice) damaged by a stroke, it took us over a year to get CHASE to close the account. The ORIGINAL CHASE CARD was cut up and not used, but it was not unusual to spend an afternoon with the manager of the local bank (easier than customer service) working to get the card back nearer to a ZERO or near-zero status. By May 2007, we were assured that soon it would be CLOSED!
Then the collections calls started, at 6:00 and 7:00 AM Central Time; they did not see why we had a problem with this as they are based in another time zone. NOW they wanted "bounced check fees" and "late fees on fees" for a check that had cleared our bank long before the Chase Visa computer stated that our check had been refused-- for a small fee, again less than $100, they would not damage our credit rating any further (they had already reported the issue before notifying either of us by phone, email, or in writing) and would promise to "investigate" the issues--keeping the card open. In a few more weeks, maybe they would CREDIT MY HUSBAND's no-longer closed card and correct the credit report (his) after a few more months, mine. This sent me back to customer service and the bank where no one has a problem with DAWN calls and various managers suggested paying the incorrect late fees EVEN IF THEY WERE WRONG TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE TO MY CREDIT RATING.
At this point, I went to my own bank and sought assistance there. Even though I was NOT on this credit card I HAD paid the Chase bill from my bank account (ergo, this 1 of 4 negative reports was correct in their eyes even though my bank said that I had NEVER had a check "bounce"). AFTER this check cleared (before the due date etc), they reported the Chase card (that I do not have) unpaid AND they reported ME for a bouncing check that had never been refused by my bank. After a few more calls from the bank, and a three-way call starting at our home and tying Chase Customer Service to my bank--Chase Visa finally agreed to correct their files and FINALLY allow us to CLOSE the account. Another "check up", a week later kept the card open through May, but authorized a return of an additional $70+ to my hubby after they realized that I had overpaid/charge errors during our extended 15-month "one day we will close this dang card" period.
I should be happy, BUT they only corrected errors to my disabled husband's credit reports. NOW, two months later, they continue to report activity (payments) on a CLOSED, 0-balance account but they will consider, if we want them to keep his account open and file a DISPUTE FORM, submitting a note to correct errors that they have added to MY credit reports; this is not done easily as my name (different from my husband's) and social security number was not associated with the card when it was opened or closed. In two years, nothing has come of any of the complaints that I have made, BUT Chase PROMISES THAT THE DANGED VISA ACCOUNT IS "or may be soon" CLOSED! Is it?
Three months after we were told that the account closed, we continue to receive invoice statements with ZERO DOLLARS DUE after faux adjustments--a credit/debit on a closed account. We owe nothing, but this "action" at CHASE keeps the account active. We have to read each one for accuracy. We want this account CLOSED-CLOSED-CLOSED! How can we go a few months without receiving new 0-BALANCE statements? Today, they AGAIN promised it was closed and the statements would end (soon). If only we still had the ability to believe
There should be a SPAM button that could be attached to a mailbox, then perhaps some could avoid CHASE credit card damage and the related mental and monetary stresses (our mailed invitation came via a local bank after we "opted out" of most offers). Unless you enjoy pain (and have enough cash to pay for it), avoid offers from Chase Visa!

I was told I signed up for PAPERLESS statements. That is when I remembered that many months earlier I was online signing up for that, BUT never clicked the CONFIRM button as I was side tracked and never finished the process of enrolling. Thus, no statements were received thru the mail and I continued to carry the CC in my wallet. I then asked to have the late charges removed to no avail. I always paid my balance off as the bills came due. So I paid them $423 to get current and said I would look into this and call again regarding the late fees.
I then went online and viewed the statement delivery preferences and there are 3 bars at top of page, 1)enrollment- which I had filled out.
2) verify- which I did also. 3)Confirmation- which I did not click or proceed with due to me being side tracked and deciding not to proceed.
The 3 bars for the first 2 items were filled in and colored blue but the 3rd bar (confirmation) was not colored. This led me to believe I had not proceeded with the statement delivery preferences and would continue to receive my statements as usual. I then called back customer service and explained what I believed had happened.
I basically was told by this very rude rep that she was on the phone with me for over 30 mins. and she would do nothing and that is that. I was concerned due to all this my credit would be affected and asked to speak with someone that could verify that I had indeed signed up for paperless statements. I was given a phone # for the IT dept. When I called the number the # was DEAD! I have been livid ever since and have not tried to contact them since and have continued to make my minimum payment to keep things current on a balance of $93.
I want to call them to ask to remove the late fees but have not brought my self to do so. I have been with this card since 2001, and always made my payments as needed and on time. I presented this to rep but they did not care or empathize what so ever. My FICO score for nearly 10 years has been on average of 750, when I checked last month it is now 660. I tried to get a loan on my paid off truck this week and was denied due to my score being below 680. Is there anything I can do about this? I am unemployed, with my savings exhausted, selling my home, and need to utilize my remaining assets while I look for work. But Chase has pulled the rug out from under me.
I even questioned the fact that I never even got a letter saying I was overdue/late on payments! Also after all this I went back in and turned off paper statements, requesting them by US mail. I still have not received a statement. Did it again and am now waiting to see if I receive a statement on this next closing date of 07/16/08. How do I contact IT dept for verification that shows I completed the paperless statement signup? Thanks and no thanks to Chase CC or their rude reps! Fico score reduced by nearly 100 points. Not able to borrow against my present assets till I can sell home and am scrambling to keep up payments and not foreclose on a home with over 100k in equity.

I NEVER have late payments. In the past 2 years every credit card or loan I have has been paid usually one week in advance. I planned on doing that with Chase as well. I've only had this account since May and for my June payment I mailed it one week in advance, like I do will all my loan payments. For some reason it was cashed 2 days after the due date. How is that possible? I will pay them off this month and never use them again.
I worked to 2 years building my credit and they ruined everything for a measley 29.00 late charge profit, which is ridiculous in itself. I will send the next payment registered mail this month because, clearly, they cannot be trusted and they need to be monitered and babysat. I'll need to call on the 20th to make sure they got the payment and actually cashed it like they were supposed to do. I was planning on getting another account with them for a bigger loan when this was paid off and now I need to find another company. The world has become full of shallow people who are ruled by money, and it's really sad.
My interest rate will go from 0% to an enormous interest rate. It's damaged the credit that I worked so hard to get and it wasn't even my fault. It's stressed me out.

The Chase credit card had a promotional offer in May, whereby you could write a check on the account and not pay interest, provided the amount was repaid in full by November. I took advantage of this and wrote a check for $5000. It was not actually interest-free because there was an up-front charge of 3%, but it still seemed a good deal. I always pay my balance in full each month so as to avoid finance charges. In June, I had several transactions on my card in addition to the $5000 check.
At the end of the month, I paid enough to cover all of those transactions plus some of the $5000. Yet I was charged a finance fee on my July statement. I now find that I have to pay finance charges until I reduce the balance to 0, even if I make no further transactions. So much for 'interest-free'. I am actually paying more in charges than I would have done if I had simply spent the $5000 without making use of this promotional offer. When I called to complain, the representative was extremely rude and sarcastic. She literally laughed at me and said, Absolutely. Have a great day. I will now look for some legal remedy.

I received my statement today for the billing period ending July 7, 2008. I noticed immediately that the due date was July 27, 2008 only 20 days from the end of the billing period and only 15 days from today. Allowing for mailing time and, from what I gather a time for the actual processing, that doesnt leave much time, does it? A second page came with the bill. It had Important News as follows: Please note that your payment due date has been changed and is earlier than in previous months. To select a payment due date that works best for you, please call customer service.
I called and asked that my due date be 30 days from the end of the billing period. The woman I spoke to said, We dont allow 30 day grace periods. I told her that I didnt want a grace period, I wanted to pay my bill (or have it arrive) 30 days from the end of the billing period. She insisted that wasnt possible and that only 20 days were allowed. The claim that a customer can select a payment due date that works best obviously isnt true.
Since our conversation was recorded, Id like to ask [them] look up that phone call and tell me that the woman understood what I was asking. I think not. If she did, I would be satisfied and my billing due date would be 30 days hence July 7th or any 7th thereafter. My credit record is far above reproach and I am appalled at the way good customers are treated.
Because I plan when to pay my bills, I use my credit card accordingly so there wouldn't be a need to jockey my savings around once it's time to pay a bill. This new system doesn't allow the consumer to get the most benefit from a savings plan that would gain interest, as opposed to paying interest on credit cards. It's ludicrous. How are Americans supposed to save? There's no such plan anymore. It's all corporate (executive and board) greed.

Chase offers this ID Protection service. Don't use it. It is a racket. They offer it for free and then start charging you $11 a month to do what a credit card company should be doing anyhow - protecting your identity. I tried to call to cancel, when I got through to somebody, I said I wanted to cancel the ID protection service and he replied Ok, give me one minute and I immediately heard on-hold music.
I have now been on hold for 45 minutes, (am on hold as I write this). This happened yesterday, where they kept me on hold until after closing hours. It is their attempt to keep you from canceling their service. Nothing but organized crime.

The customer service person was unable to waive the late fee as was her supervisor. Both assured me that I had an outstanding payment record and was never late in all those many years however, Chase policy did not allow them to waive ever any late fee, and there was no one else in all of Chase who could waive it either. I closed the account right there and then after I paid the late fee and will never ever again utilize any Chase services.

I had a charge on my Chase Credit Card for $59.99 and had no idea who or what it was. At the time the charge appeared on June 25, 2008 my computer was down with a horrible virus and I wasn't using it at all. My husband is 80 years old and never touches the computer. I called Chase and they transferred me to Trilegiant who said they had too many phone calls and could not take my call and hung up.
I then called Chase back and they said they would refund the 59.99 but it would take 30 days and that I had to pay the whole amount this month and then get the credit. I said I would not do that and talked to the manager who finally said I could deduct that amount from the total and just pay the smaller amount. I didn't trust them to give me the credit. I never authorized this and have no idea what it's for or how they got my info to charge me for it.
My husband is 80 with diabetes and had a triple heart bypass. I'm 76, also diabetic and have just had my 3rd back surgery. We're on a fixed income. We would not have enough money to pay our monthly bills if this charge is not taken off and still be able to eat and buy medicine.

Chase offers the 0% balance transfer, on all credit balance. What is in the small print is that the if you miss a couple of payments the interest rate is jumped up to 28.99%. I was deployed to Afghanistan and never received the statements. Additional the credit cards had to be resent to me a second time.
Now my credit rating is ruined, and instead of a lower credit card payment, I can barely pay the interest on the card.

On May 20,2008 my husban called the automated system to get the balance of my credit card with Chase so that we could pay it off. He paid the balance that day and got a confirmation #538497658. He did this with several credit card companies that day as well. We were upset to receive another statement from Chase showing a balance of $50.74. When my husband tried to talk with someone, no one would talk to him because the card was only in my name.
I called the number on July 7, 2008 to try to find out why we had received another bill. After talking with Alex Roman, a customer service manager, I can tell you that I will NEVER have any dealings with Chase again. I have closed my account and asked to be taken off of the mailing list. We did not have this problem with any of our other credit card companies. Everyone else was very helpful. Now, because I waited to make the call, an additional $20.00 has been added to the other balance, and Alex told me that even when we pay this new balance, Chase will still send us a bill for $1.00. This is a ripoff and I am MAD!
My husband lost his job two years ago, which resulted in our moving to another state where he found another job. We are trying to get out of debt which has resulted from his job loss and our relocation. Chase is making it very difficult for us to pay them off. I feel sorry for the customers who lose their jobs and can't dig their way out of debt because of credit card companies such as Chase.

I paid off my account in June. I was told there was a difference of $30.59 and I paid it on July 1,2008. Now I'm told I have interest of $35.81 on the amount I just paid. I was told by a manager that I have to pay the interest on the $30.59 or more interest and late fees will be applied. I closed the account. I don't understand why such high interest is due on the amount I paid. I've been paying interest right along. The person I talked to was not friendly when I told her that I don't understand how credit card companies can get away with charging such rediculous interest rates.
I'm on a fixed income and that's why I got a debt consolidation loan to pay off the credit cards and be rid of their high interest rates. I thought I had Chase taken care of, and now I have to see how to budget in another payment to try to be rid of them. I think they're being unreasonable.

I get a $7.93 finance charge for a $9.51 balance? She said that it was also the interest for the new charges which is not yet even due till the end of this month.

I closed a Chase credit card in Jan 2008. In March 2008, my closed credit card account was billed $20. Initially, when I called Chase customer service, I was told by the rep. that he didn't know how this could happen. He said he would send a dispute form to me, and I would have to complete it and mail it back in order for Chase to review this charge.
After hanging up, I called back because I realized that the address that Chase had on file for me in that account was outdated. I spoke to another customer service rep. She confirmed that my address on file was outdated. I gave her my current address and she said she would have the forms mailed out to my new address. I asked her why I even had to fill out any forms, since the credit card account was already closed when the charge was put through. She said that the first person I spoke to was in the Dispute Department and since he already started the dispute process there was nothing she could do. And that I would just have to fill out the forms.
I did not receive any forms in the mail. Late Tue night 7/1/08, I called Chase to again tell them that my closed credit card account had been charged $20 after it was closed. I spoke to a woman named Sheena; she said she did not have a rep ID number. She told me that the $20 was for a subcription, and that subscriptions are allowed to be charged to a closed credit card. I told her that didn't make any sense that Chase would accept such a charge. The $20 charge was from the Wall Street Journal. I had paid for a one year subscription to their online paper in March 2007. The credit card that I used was the credit card that was closed in Jan 2008.
In March 2008, I paid for another one year subscription to Wall Street Journal online paper under another Chase credit card. I told customer service rep these information. She checked my other Chase credit card and saw that I had indeed paid the Wall Street Journal with my other Chase credit card in March 2008. She said that Chase would not do anything until I complete the dispute forms. I told her that I did not receive any dispute forms in the mail, and that I believe that I should not have to go through so much trouble if a vendor runs a charge through my closed credit card. I asked her why Chase would even accept a charge on a closed account.
I asked her why Chase couldn't pursue the Wall Street Journal to ask for proof that I authorized the charge. She said that the only thing Chase would do is to investigate, after I complete the dispute forms. I asked to speak to a supervisor. She said a supervisor was not available, but even if one was available, the supervisor would not be able to do anything other than tell me that I have to file out the dispute forms. I asked her if the forms could be faxed or e-mailed to me. She said no--they could only be mailed, and it would take 7 to 10 business days to arrive. I told her I did not receive the forms last time. She had no comments. I told her to go ahead and mail the forms to me.
After hanging up, I thought about this again. I should not have to go through this much trouble if a vendor runs a charge through my closed credit card account and Chase chooses to accept that charge. I called Chase back and ask the customer service rep if there was any government agency that regulates credit card practices. I talked to a different rep. She said she couldn't help me. She told me that I should do a google search if I want to know where I should file a complaint.
Specifically, this has caused me about 2 hours time speaking to customer service, so far. I will still need to fill out the dispute forms (if I receive them) and follow up with Chase. But more importantly, this current process in which Chase places the responsibility on a customer to clear a charge that was made to a closed credit card account is ethically wrong. I don't believe it should be legal--if it is. Furthermore, Chase has constructed this process to make it as burdensome as possible for the customer.
If Chase is reasonably assured of a customer's identity to be providing confidential customer information on the phone, why does the customer need to sign a dispute complaint before Chase takes any action? Why can't a multi-billion dollar company like Chase fax or e-mail dispute complaints to customers to expedite this process? Why can't a dispute complaint be filed directly from the customer's online access to the account?--it appears that Chase makes it easy for the customer to pay his bill online, but won't provide any capability for the customer to file a complaint online.
I think this is a ridiculous process that Chase has set up because they think they can get away with it. I want them to: 1) not accept charges on closed credit card account 2) if Chase chooses to accept a charge on a closed credit card account, Chase has to eat the charge or resolve with the vendor; the customer should not even be involved 3) Chase needs to make it easier for a customer to dispute a charge. If Chase has enough techincal expertise to construct an online payment system, they should be able to provide an online dispute system.

Today I found myself charged a $65 annual member fee even though my account is not current, when called they say it is because I have a balance and so I have the member benefits, the only benefits are theirs and another way to make money with hidden fees from their cardholders

I recently went on a trip overseas and my card was disabled after I tried to make a cash withdrawal. Their fraud reporting is only done by telephone and since I was overseas, I was by definition not near my phone. Since I did not inform them that I was overseas, and since I did not call them, my card was disabled. All the automatic bill payments that went to my card were rejected while I was overseas. I have asked, and apparently a number of people have asked for e-mail notices and not phone calls.
As a computer programmer and system administrator, I know for a fact that automated voice is significantly more difficult to program and support than e-mail. I don't understand why they cannot make that either an option or an all out change. Even though I was overseas, I was able to read my e-mails. This fraud service is a negative service, they charge for it and it does nothing because the fraud department and the customer service department seem to be unrelated. I called customer service about this, they forwarded me to the fraud department, who then said that they cannot do anything and that I should call customer service.
When I called them back, I was told that I should be speaking with the fraud department, and before they were able to forward me again, I asked for a Supervisor. This supervisor, who I thought was rude because I wanted to speak to someone in IT, he said that nothing is going to change so I should stop insisting. He did, however, said that I should call them that I am traveling and they would flag my account as likely to have unusual activity and they would let that through. For this time around, he would send me a letter that I could send to any credit agencies to get my record corrected since it was Chase that suspended my account and not by any fault of myself.
I guess that doing this might have me flagged as a problem customer, and thus I don't know until the next time I check on-line. They also have a problem with their on-line system that you can only have one computer registered to the on-line site. Thus if I want to do anything from the office, I can't do it from home and vice versa. They seem to be unable to let you access from more than one computer.
I return home to late notices on a number of bills that I thought were still being paid. Luckily none of the 5 bills that are regularly paid via credit card had reported me to a credit agency.

chase lured us in with the o% interest for the life of the balance that is for balance transfers. We schedule our payments automatically online with our bank, chase kept changing our due dates causing our payment to be late. Or they would take 2-3 days to post a payment that was sent with our bank electronically and delivered on the due date, there by charging us the $39.00 late fee and increased our interest from 0% to 29.99%. I called them about this they refused to do anything about it I asked for a 10 day payoff quote and paid off the account and closed it. Chase is unbelievable greedy....normally the credit companies does not charge a late fee or increase your interest rate if your payment is 1 day late chase will.
I just applied for a card with circuit city and just got it in the mail today...guess who? you guessed it. I am going to call and cancel it today! and call circuit city and explain to them why I don' want to carry their card being backed by chase. Maybe if we all voiced this places like amazon etc will get the hint. I Encourage everybody to go to bbb and file a complaint against chase and make sure you check out a business there before you accept their credit.

My husband has had a Chase Mastercard since the early 70s. Recently we've run into some financial difficulty. Last month, Chase called and offered a payment plan until things get better for us. I agreed to the payment plan. However, 2 weeks after the 1st payment was made, they started calling our house. They call at 8:00 am, they call at 9:00 pm. Some days I have 17 or 18 calls from them on my caller ID. It doesn't matter what day of the week it is either. Today, (Sunday), they started calling at 8:15 am. They're driving us nuts. We haven't used the card in over a year, but at 31% interest, we go over the limit every month. We've called and asked them to lower our interest rates, but they refuse.
I've threatened them with a law suit for harassment, but it doesn't even phase them.
Since June 25th, I have 32 calls logged from them, including 3 already this morning and it's only 10:00am.
If I had the money, I would send it to them, along with the card cut up in little tiny pieces. I will never do any kind of business with Chase again.
Beyond the constant harassment. The economic hardship is beyond repair. We make $350 payments to them every month, but because of the interest rate, the balance only continues to go up.

I was charged $39. for a late fee because my payment was 2 days late. It was late because my due date for June had changed to June 3th when in May the due date was May 4th, and April it was April 8th. Adding insult to injury the next statement I received had an additional $96. late fee. When I called regarding the second late fee I was told that because of the late fee I now had a 13.99% interest rate (as opposed to 0%) and I was being charged the interest EVERY DAY since May 14th, when the previous statement had ended, until I actually made my late payment on June 5th. They felt sorry for me and removed the $39. fee but said there was nothing they could do about my $96. interest rate penalization.
Furthermore, my interest rate will stay at 13.99% because I've lost my 0% promotional fee due to my late payment. I begged them to see if there were something they could do about it and reminded them that I have been a very good customer for years with no late payments. I have 3 other Chase cards that I've never been late paying and I've been with Chase since the 80s. They said they couldn't do anything about it. I then told them that I would have to pay it off in total and close it and all of my other Chase accounts but they still didn't care and wouldn't remove the $96 fee or return me to my 0% interest rate. Also, my due dates have fluctuated many times over the year.
I now have an interest rate of 13.99% and I have to shell out $96 dollars not to mention each month I will now have a large interest rate charge.

On 03/11/08 I called the company and spoke to Adeel regarding a 1.99% fixed APR that was offered. He informed me that there would be a $75.00 transfer fee in addition to the 1.99% but there would be no other hidden fees as long as the loan was repaid by 08/29/08. I then did a balance transfer of the offered $35,000.00.
When I received my next bill on 04/08/08 I called to inquire as to how much needed to be paid in order to keep my account current (I have always paid each months balance in full). I spoke with Darla, Nicole Chapman & eventually a supervisor Shelley Clevenger that any monies that I pay go against the loan amount and not my recurring monthly charges. I than told them that I felt I was misled & I would immediately repay the $35,000.00 which I did that day. I was assured that all associated fees would be re-imbursed.
When I received my next statement I called and spoke with Sandra Branch to verify what I needed to pay in order to insure that no fees would remain outstanding. I was told that $1,897.95 would pay my outstanding balance in full (not new charges). My next statement revealed a previous balance of $5,150.40 and payments received of $5,150.40 and a past due amount of $0.00 however I received a finance charge of $25.42. I immediately called & spoke with Omari who refused to allow me to speak with a supervisor even though he was difficult to understand.
Eventually I spoke with a supervisor who said that no additional fees would be reimbursed & that I need 2 cycles paid in full before finance charges were no longer charged. I complained that I was not informed of this when I spoke with Sandra Branch last month. She informed me that it was not their responsibility to inform me but that I was responsible to read my agreement. I told them that I was very disappointed & that I had been an excellent customer for years & this is a business account that they obviously did not value.
Many time consuming phone calls plus the $25.42 which was not reimbursed.

A year or two ago I had Lasik performed on my eyes. The institution performing the surgery was offering a 0% financing option through Unicorn Financial, so I opted to go with them. My bank offers an online bill paying service, so I set the Unicorn payments up online to reoccur each month well in advance of the required due date.
At the beginning of this year, I started to receive letters in the mail announcing the fact that my account was no longer being handled by Unicorn, but instead by Chase Health Advanced starting in April. Assuming that my account information was going to change, I deleted that account information from my online automatic bill payment service. Unfortunately, I failed to properly recreate the account with the new Chase information, and as a result my April installment was never received.
On Saturday, May 3rd, I received my April statement (which I opened on Sun May 4th), showing an outstanding balance for the previous month of March. Shocked, I quickly went online, rectified the account information, and scheduled an electronic payment for the previous month, along with the present month's charges, and a $39.00 late fee, which was to be sent out the next business day (May 5th). Being the statement said that I had until the 28th to may these payments, and that there was nothing annotated anywhere that the payment was due immediately, I assumed that the only penalty for my administrative mistake was the $39.00 late fee. On May 14th, however, I received a letter simply informing me that my promotional program of 0% financing had been terminated due to a delinquent account.
Perplexed as to why they did not receive my payment that was dispersed on the 5th, I called them the next day. Much to my dismay, the CS rep tells me that my promotion was cancelled on the 10th, they processed my check on the 12th, and sent the cancellation notice to me on the 13th, which I received on the 14th. It seemed really odd that I received their cancellation notice in 1 day, but yet they did not get my check for seven days, until she told me the amount that I now owed in back interest: $1200! Of course I challenged the validity of the cancellation, due to the fact that the only penalty reflected in my statement was for $39.00, that a termination date of the 10th of May was not disclosed, that I was mislead in believing that I had until the 28th to rectify the situation, and the fact that despite this clouding I still sent a check for the full amount next business day. This, coupled with the fact that it occurred during the first month in which changes to my account had taken place, and the fact that all my previous payments over the past two years were in full and early, should have been enough to see that it was an honest mistake, which I tried to resolve in a timely fashion. Despite this evidence, all the CS reps kept reiterating was that it was not their fault? and that I was now responsible for an additional $1200. After asking to escalate the issue, they agreed to perform an investigation of the account. After a day or two, I contacted them again to get the results, which of course yielded that they were not at fault, and that I still owed the money. I again asked that it be escalated, at which point I was put in touch with Cindy Grubmeyer, whom I believe to be the CS manager.
After relaying my case to her, and pointing out how I sent my check next business day after being made aware of my outstanding balance, despite the deceptiveness of my statement, she again reiterated that it was not their fault. Although obstinate, she did agree to perform another payment investigation. I called again this morning to check on the status of the inquiry, and although she was not in the office to take my call, the CS rep said that the notes on my account were that it was not Chases fault that my payment was received / processed after the supposed grace period, and that I still owed the back interest.
Now, I understand that it was my fault that my March payment was initially late, which is why I have no problems paying an additional $39.00 for the month of March, but to then deceive me in believing that I had almost a month to make the payments, hide the fact that they were going to cancel my promotion if they did not receive payments by the 10th, conveniently not process my payment that was mailed out on the 5th until the 12th (especially after I received their cancellation notice in one day), then blindly adding an additional $1200 in back interest, is just shady. Regardless of how this transpires, not only am I going to cancel my Chase credit card and sever all future ties with the company, but Im also going to encourage all my friends and family to do the same.

The CHASE Freedom Credit Card is a scam, re: its reward point system. One receives a base-rate 1% back on all purchases, and a higher amount on your top three spending categories as long as they are within preset categories such as telecommunications or groceries. On the surface this looks great--cable, telephone, groceries, are all things that cost a lot of money. BUT BEWARE: their trick is that they will only recognize a company as say, telecommunications if the company itself recognizes it as such. They claim there is no recourse for changing the label on their end.
For example, I get my cable from COMCAST--a very well known cable provider. They insist that since Comcast doesn't declare themselves as telecommunications I can't get the reward points. Even the helpful telephone support folks admit that Comcast is obviously a cable provider, but they won't help. Anyone thinking of using CHASE credit cards such as the Freedom Rewards or cards like that should make sure to check in ADVANCE if the places you shop will be recognized. You'll in in for a surprise otherwise!
Reward points are above-and-beyond. But while there may be no economic damages per se, this is definitely tricky advertising on their part!

I recently applied for and was issued a Marriott Rewards Credit Card from Chase. With the card came a convenience check that was supposed to be good up to $2,800. There was no number to call to get authorization before using the check. There was no warning the check would not be paid unless I received a phone call from Chase and confirmed that I did indeed deposit the check. I wrote the check for $2,000 and deposited it without giving it a second thought. A week later, when I looked at my checking account balance online, I saw it was over $1,300 in the red and was shocked. After reviewing the detail, it appeared Chase declined to pay the check.
I called Chase and was told they called my home and were unable to reach me, to confirm I used the check. Therefore, they declined the check, which of course messed up my checking account and probably will result in a penalty to me from my bank. Chase confirmed the convenience check came with no authorization number to call and no warning they would decline the item if they were unable to reach me.
This seems outrageous to me. I do not answer telephone calls at home from toll-free numbers, especially without being told in advance that I would receive such a call. When a company as big as Chase sends me a convenience check and I deposit it, I depend on the check being paid without giving it a second thought. Then, out of nowhere, a large negative balance shows up in my checking account, and checks I've written are declined for insufficient funds. I have to scramble to get the $2,000 back into my account, and I probably will be charged a penalty by my bank.

I have delt with several credit card companies, payed them off, opened new ones, etc, never had any problems. I have a very good credit rating and I always pay my bills. Chase is purposely not giving a finial balance so that they can catch people with finance charges, late fees, and interest that rolls over from the above stated charges. There should be a law or something that when a debtor requests the total amount of his debt, that the creditor must give the pay-off amount, because apparently with Chase the total balance is not the total. They did a credit report and sent me a letter stating that I had another Chase card and they were deducting $1000. off my $6,000. They would issue me another card for $1000. I received the $1000. card, never activated. In the meantime I received a letter from Chase, stating that I was over-limit and they charged me $39. I asked them to take back the card and return everything to the way it was. No-one called me.
Today I called to see what they would say. The first person I talk with, Bill returns my $39.00 fee, moves the $1.000 back to my card, returning it to $6,000. and cancels out the NEW CARD for the $1,000. that I never activated. I ask him at the end if my 3.9% will be returned, he says he cannot answer that question. He now transfers me to the promotions dept. Linda Rodriquez was NOT very sympathetic and refused to do anything about it. I say this is YOUR fault and I think it's deceptive banking practices. She says I'm sorry that you feel that way. I say I will pay off this card and get rid of it.
Well I lost $178.00 fee, I lost 2 months and probably will be 3 mos. before I get this all accomplished of the higher 24.24% interest rate vs 3.9% and I don't know what that figure is. I have been upset over this since it first happened and wondered if they'd done it on purpose? After all is said and done, I do feel that they saw the opportunity to make more money. I have an account with Chase, where I've been making automated payments from my bank account, well over the minimum payment for a number of years. This month I realized that I was being charged a $35 late payment fee, that went back to February. Calls to Chase's customer service confirmed that they altered the billing cycle, just enough that my payments were arriving a day late. I have $160 in late payment fees that they have refused to reimburse. They claim that this change was communicated in a statement mailed to me in February. I contend that they have communicated the billing date over 60 times (5 years x 12 months), and that this one time communication in February was part of a calculated scheme to harvest fees from automatic payment customers like myself.
A google search identified several additional victims of this scam. No other business operates this way. If businesses en masse arbitrarily changed their due dates, it would undermine the entire electronic banking business process. A google search on billing cycle changes revealed only one industry that was engaged in billing cycle changes. This change was in the utilities industry, triggered by the adoption of enhanced and more regular meter reading practices by several municpalities. In this case, there was a clear benefit to the consumer - more reqular billing - i.e. consistenly 30 days, instead of a wide variation in billing cycles based on when meters were read. Again, in this instance, the change was communicated by press releases, updates to web sites, and I assume by clear communication to their consumers. In addition, the change was applied consistently across their entire consumer base, not just a targeted minority.
While the individual damages are not large, I believe that the class impacted by this business practice could be substantial, and easily identifiable through a discovery process. Either that, or Chase would be found in violation of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act requiring detailed documentation of computer system changes.

I made the mistake of using one of the convenience checks and two problems arose: 1)The transaction fee is uncapped, which is the first time in over 15 years the fee was uncapped. Normally is 3% or $100. 2) Becaue the transaction fee was uncapped it caused my account to go over limit by $20 and they charged me an over limit fee of $39.
I called to dispute the over limit fee and was told that it was bank policy that even if you are over $1 due to a fee they charge or interest they will charge the fee and not remove it. I will be paying the account off within the next 15 days and closing the account. I find it ironic that their marketing material tells you to access you account up to the limit and if you do so not only will you be charged the uncapped fee, but a late charge, and your promotional APR will be revoked because you are overlimit.
I am paying $500 in additional transactions fee which is exorbanent and I also have to pay $39 which is a result of their high fee which is not clearly stated.

Chase, unlike any other credit card issuer I have ever dealt with, will let you go OVER YOUR CREDIT LIMIT when doing a BALANCE TRANSFER. Instead of transferring the balance of your credit limit minus the balance transfer fee, Chase will transfer up to your credit limit and then charge your BT fee on top of that AND THEN charge you an OVERLIMIT FEE. (I can't believe that's even legal.)
The most disturbing thing is that when you call to request a courtesy, one-time reversal of the fee, they refuse. They outright refuse. The $39 in additional revenue is more important to Chase than having satisfied customers and rewarding them for their loyalty. Come on, guys. It's a one-time reversal. Every good credit card company does it with a smile on their face. The 2nd most disturbing thing is that they report this information to the credit bureaus!! BEWARE of Chase!
My otherwise perfect credit now has a negative notation indicating that I have gone over my credit limit.

I ordered something on my Chase card then got solicitation calls. I told the caller this was a cell phone with limited minutes and I was not going to pay to talk to them and NO I do not want what every you are selling. Then I received my Chase bill and there was a $19.97 member ship charge on my account for a membership in this phony fun pass thing. I called the number and told them to cancel what ever it was that they charged me for and Ruth gave me a confirmation number and told me to watch my mail for paper work to sign to confirm cancelation.
You should see the hoops they have me going through to get my money back and it will take at least three weeks! This is ridiculous. It is fraud they stole my money --without my permission and are causing me to jump through crazy hoops to get it back. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
They took $19.97 from my credit card and signed me up for a membership in some phony travel fun pass thing that I did not ask for and certainly do not want or need.

I had my Chase amazon.com credit card June 2007. When I got the card, I called a number coming along with the credit card. - Maybe this call led to my purchase of the ID proection, but maybe not - I don't remember exactly. But very soon (June or July) when I found the ID protection charge of $11.99 on my statement, I called them to cancel the service immediately, because I would just stay in US for 1 year and I don't need to build my credit history.
However, about 3 months ago (Feb. or Mar.2008), I found Chase has been billing me $11.99 for the ID protection since July 2007. I immediately called the number 800 362 8182(ID protection department in chase) to cancel the membership again. Yesterday(May 11, 2008), I found the bill is still on my bill statement. I called chase's customer service again to 1) cancel the membership again; 2) refund all the payment. But they told me that they don't have my records of canceling the service and only agree to refund me for two months. They said it's my fault that I didn't closely watch my statement.
Actually I seldom use this credit card. I trusted Chase and its service in the past and didn't know they would do so badly. I have no reason to order such a service for two reasons. 1)I will go back to my home country next month and don't need to build my credit history in US. 2) I seldom used this credit card. For about 3 or 4 months out of my past 11 months using this card, the only bill is the ID protection. I clearly remember I called Chase last July(or June), because I even joked to my friends that Chase was a bad sales to sell to a wrong customer. I also clearly remember I called Chase in Feb. or Mar. 2008, because I was already angry that time. I don't check my bank statement often also for several reasons. 1) I trust chase. 2) I seldom use that credit card. The payment each month is too small for me to get alert. 3) I set up an automatic payment from my bank account to this credit card.
they charged me $11.99 every month from July 2007 - April 2008, totally 10 months. So it's $119.9 totally.

I noticed a cash advance listed with interest on my recent statement. Since I never ever take cash advances from a credit card, I called to inquire about this item. Long story short, this was a legitimate purchase charge, but was listed as a Cash Advance. I signed up for this card based on a zero percent balance transfer offer a few months ago. It turns out that the Cash Advance cannot be paid off, but only is paid after all other items are paid.
So now I am stuck paying interest on this until I pay off the balance in full, including the transfer. I requested this charge be properly re-assigned to purchases and they say they cannot do so. Mind you the amount is small, but I am angry over the concept. Looks like a nice way to collect some interest from someone who takes advantage of the transfer offer. Watch out!
$3.00/month, but it still should not be assigned to cash transfer as it was a purchase.

I receieved a letter in the mail saying I was pre-approved for a BP gas card. It came with reward points and everything. I thought it would be a good investment to help establish my credit. I went ahead and applied, and they sent me the BP gas card.
I called the customer service number to validate the card, and the person I talked to said I have to sign up for their Fraud Protecting Program, I kept refusing and he said they wouldn't be able to activate my card until I agreed to it and that I could cancle at any time after I got my package and statement for it.
About 2 weeks later I got a statement in the mail for the Fraud Protecting Program and I called saying I wanted to cancle it, so they did, at least thats what he said; and I never receieved a statement again. The BP gas station in my area closed soon after I received the card, so I never even had a chance to purchase anything with it.
A year after I purchased the card, I receieved a call one morning from the Viking Collecting Agency saying Chase contacted them and said I had an unpaid balance on my card. I explained that I never receieved any type of statement in the mail, since I had gotten the first one. What happened was Chase decided to enroll me in the program after a certian about of time, without my permission, and began charging me for this Fraud Protection. They failed to send me statements, or even call me to let me know what was going on, so I had no idea, especially since I hadn't used the gas card once, I ended up shredding it.
The Fraud Protection Program is a fraud its self. They failed to contact me about my statements, they saw I wasn't making any payments on it, and yet failed to call me, or send me something in the mail to notify me about what was going on. Then they expected me to pay the amount that had been building up over the past year!

I sent in everything they wanted from what work I had paid for before to second opinion letters from other contractors. I did all this even though the amount charged was never justified by any work or labor performed. It was just a scam charge because I fired the company. I didn't owe them anything. Chase called me and I responded to all their needs to clarify and resolve this issue.
The bottom line is that I have been calling for the last 15 months why it still hasn't been resolved. I am being told by the customer service department that they are working on it and someone will get back within 48 hours. Nobody ever does and I have talked to supervisors but there is nothing they can do. They are baffled as well and they just promise to look into it. It has been 15 months and a charge of over $16,000 dollars keeps showing up on my billing statement. Chase will just not resolve this and it has been 15 months and always the same respond from customer service; we'll get back to you in 48 hours.
It is killing my credit. I wanted to refinance my house but I can't because this charge is on my credit card. Chase is ruining my life and economic situation. Chase bank has tricked me or made a mistake with me because they made a College account and told me that they wouldnt charge any fees except late fees. This was my 1st time having an account and credit card. The bank told me since i have a college account the card wont charge me any fees except late fees. I agreed with them and started the account.
When i started to use my card for the i kept taking out cash from the atm from my savings account. They charged me 10 dollers for every 20 withdral i took out and made the bill impossible to pay. There was about 120 dollers of transaction fees.I than called them up and asked them why did they charge me all this money for when they said they wouldnt. They told me they never said it and i have to pay for it no matter what. I told them unless they drop those fees im not going to pay for anything, but they never did it.
Right now my credit is being destroyed because the bank lied to me or made a mistake and i have to suffer for it. The bill went up more than 1800 dollers which i origanlly owed them about 900 because all the late fees and overlimit fees. I tried to ask them to make a deal with me for 3 months but they said no. In the end they made a deal with me and i agreed for 350 dollers for 3 months.
I than asked my father after i made the deal because he was overseas so i had to wait. I thought he would be ok with it but he wasnt after that i called them up and asked them if they can lower it down and pay for extra months. For example, 50 dollers a month every month till it reaches 1050 which they required. They said no so i cancled the deal and we are still at war with eachother.
We than found out that they charged my fathersa account without his permission for 350 dollers twice and now going for the 3rd and last payment. They still went with the deal after i told them to cancle and took 350 dollers from my fathers account. Now my father has to go to his bank to tell them to get his money back which my bank took from him(credit card). These past 3-4 months, maybe more. They no as a student i couldnt pay what they were asking for and it was there fault for the lie or false information they gave me which is not my fault. They are taking advantage of begginer student like me to make themselves money and thats not right.
My credit is being destroyed. Charging my 1850 dollers before the deal. Took money from my fathers account without asking him making it harder on him to pay his own bills. Even adding more stress on my life that i have from my college and work. Still have to pay my tuition and they are making it even impossible for me to so.

for over 7 years we had excellent credit. our fico scores where in the high 700's. we had always been on time. we use to pay larger amounts then was due. sometimes even paying off balances in full. ex. $2,000 + at one time. when ever we had the extra money to put to the cards. our interest rates where 10% and below. we had 7 credit cards that we used. then came the month after christmas 2 1/2 years ago. i got a letter stating they where increasing to a one percent increase because the federal law wanted it like that, it was to benefit the consumer. now my payments went from $100 to $400 a month. this went for all my cards. i still was managing to pay the cards and the house and all my other household expenses.
They said if we came into to any trouble to let them know and they would help. around may my finacial situation changed and things were getting harder. i called each one up asking for help explaining my situation. they wanted us to answer all these questions to see if we needed help. they went through all my monthly expenses. the final answer was sorry your credit has been excellent and you never have defaulted so we cant help till you mess up. to this day this does not make sense. Why in the world would you want me to mess up my credit if you can help me with a solution.
After this happened they started to increase my interest even though i still paid and was on time. i asked why they said because from what i said we were becoming a high risk. they froze accounts from being charged. interest rates jumped to 15% then continued to rise. i still was begging for help and they ALL continued to deny our requests. i even try to refinance to get them out the way but the market was no good and i wasnt going to mess up the great loan i have with my home. that has never once been late in the eight years I've owned my home. around august i told them i could do no more. they started saying to borrow money or take it against my home. i said give me a better deal for either no interest or lower. i explained what i could pay each one. they refused. that is when i let them go one by one because i could not pay what they wanted.
We even tried to do a credit transfer which they approved. but when they did that they never raised the amount on the card and were wanting over $2,000 up front with a over the limit fee. she said sorry we will continue to charge you late fees and over the limit. this wasnt helping me. we even had a fraud incident which chase said they could not release any records because we owed them money never solved that one this was also from chase. now began the phone calls, the harrassments at work. telling co-workers our business when they picked up the phones. i finally had to change my house phone number.
Now that the cards are out of the main dept. and in collections they said they still have the right to charge me interest. i will never bring them down because they are still climbing. now they want the money in full or some riduculous monthly payment. they are threatning garnishment. my debt went from $19,000 for one to 27,000 another has gone from 10,000 to 17,400 i owe so much its so depressing. my mother in law helped me make a deal and paid off two cards for $15,000. i still have five more. she cant help with anymore. i am so stuck. i am paying chase two cards for my husband at $120 because we received a supeona for garnishment they were placing in court. i wrote back to their attorneys stating i will give $120 to them each month and please to stop charging me interest.
When i called them to make my settlement for my card they had a higher amount i asked why she said thats because we are still charging interest. chase never sends me statements to show my payments are being applied the the only thing i have is my letters and checks. I DO NOT HAVE A STATEMENT. this is such a shame, i dont know how we can get rid of this debt if i cant even lower it.
as of now our credit is almost void we still own a house our payments are always on time never ever late our current cards are on time no lateness either. our way of life is little harder not being able to apply for credit when necessary or emergency such as refinancing to try and clear some this debt . physically it was emotionally draining dealing with all the calls and harassment everyday trying to figure out how your going to get back on your feet but finding no true answer now.

The statement never indicates which charges have been denied. I call and after many minutes they finally tell me that such and such gas station does not meet their critieria. I ask what that criteria is. They cannot tell me. They remind me that they can change their mind at any time.

I made the mistake of using a convenience check from my credit card company (Chase). After the check posted I noticed a $150 Transaction Fee. I asked myself why I would have a transaction fee. I remember looking for a catch like that before using the check and felt confident that there would be none. I assumed that it was an offer to longstanding customers. So I called Chase customer service. They told me that it was clearly stated that there was a transaction fee for the convenience check. We (a Chase rep. and I) looked over it together and this is what we found. On the page with the checks, there are a few bullet points (big font and clear) that list the fiscal advantages of the checks (e.g. 0.00% Fixed APR for a limited duration). Below the bullets there are some very small footnotes marked with a asterisks. One says Check must be posted to your account by the post/void date on the check(s). The other says See 'Important Information' section for more details. I looked for the Important Information section in my paperwork. I kept looking... and looking... and looking. I never found this section.
After about 5 minutes of being on hold, the rep told me where the information actually was. It was in a section called Explanation of Finance Charges. I pointed out that nowhere in this section did it say Important Information and if I was supposed to look at Explanation of Finance Charges then why didn't the convenience check offer say See Explanation of Finance Charges section. I think this is ambiguous at best and seemingly intentionally misleading. The account supervisor agreed that it wasn't really clear, but said that if I looked hard enough I would have found the fine print for the convenience check. Therefore, he would not waive the transaction fee.
As of now, I am closing my account with Chase and hope that consumer affairs will look into this questionable, at best, business practice. Additionally, I would like to note that when I requested to close my account, the rep. told me that I should wait for the following reason. I was told that I needed to have United Airlines Mileage Plus transfer the miles from Visa before I closed my account otherwise I would forfeit the miles. I called United and they confirmed that this was absolutely untrue. My miles transfer automatically each month. I feel that I was AGAIN intentionally misled to delay me from canceling my account.

I acknowledge that I placed my accounts on hold via the insurance program they offered while unemployeed. When I resumed working, I immediately began making payments. I asked to have my date changed to help me be able to pay on time - I was told the only way the date could be changed is if I agreed to a rate hike on all 3 accounts to 29.9%. Because I was not able to pay on time with the existing due date, I agreed. I was told that if I paid on time for 1 year, I could request that my interest rate be lowered.
Since then all I get when I call is stonewalled. I am very diligent in at least paying the minimum on time. All I have asked for is to get a lower rate. I recently paid off $10,000. I called and requested that my interest rates be lowered based upon lowering my debt with them. I was told that there was no way to lower my interest rate. They said they did not care if I cancelled my accounts. To add insult to injury, I was changed interest on the amount which was paid off.

Last week I received a letter from a collection agency called Valentine & Kebartas, Inc., informing me that my account with Chase Bank was delinquent and I owed them $280.58 which I needed to pay in 30 days.
When I called Chase Bank all I got were service people in India and they were less than helpful. No one could give me an answer of what this charge was for and why I hadn't received any statements in the mail informing me of this debt. The next day I called to cancel my other card and the service person forwarded me to a rep and she was very concerned why I was cancelling. I told her my story and she revealed to me that I had a charge of $79 in 2007 and the remainder of the charge was late fees. I told her I never received any statements and wanted to get a statement. She said she couldn't send me one, (since my sccount was now closed) but they would file a report for investigation by Chase of my past due debt. It would take 30-90 days, and I should receive a letter letting me know the outcome.
Good grief! I have a very good credit rating and am never late on my bills. This really aggravated me and also caused me worry this would affect my credit rating.

My credit is EXCELLENT, yet this credit card company shortened my billing cycle, charged me a $40 late fee when I was two days late, and huge daily interest charges. I paid their extortion, but then found they were still charging me interest charges into the following (2nd) billing cycle also. I have yet to figure out their math. I stopped using the card, but needed to use it once more since I needed to purchase a European train ticket with a Mastercard.
My vacation was 2 weeks, I came home (slept for 2 days) then paid my bills about a week later. Fool! Can you believe it? Chase had again shortened my billing cycle even more so that my $64 bill was due two days after I returned, which I noticed a week later! Needless to day, they've charged me another $40 late fee, will not waive it, increased my rate astronomically and again expect me to pay into the following billing cycle also. At this point I'm willing to take the hit on my credit score to tell them to you-know-what. This is usury plain and simple. If anyone is going to file a class action lawsuit again this company, I am in!

When I signed up for chase credit card, I was hoping to get some cash back as they promised. But I have not been able to see a penny of it. So I stopped using it. Little did I know, Yahoo Music automatically charged to my chase card around April of 2007. Since I do not use it very often, I do not check the statement every month. I did not receive the statement from them neither. When they finally called me up three months later, I immediately paid it off along with the late fee. I even explained to the customer representative. She showed great understanding over the phone. However, they still reported it as negative item on my credit report.
My credit score is very much affected. I was never late for my payment. Now I have to dispute this negative report.

My bank Union Bank of California recently paid off my Credit Card through Chase Bank. I have recieved a bill for a finance charge from Chase Bank. When I questioned this Chase Bank told me that it is impossible to make a payment in full and that there will always be a finance charge. How can there be a finance charge when a payment is made for the full balance before the payment due date.
What I am hearing is that is esentially impossible to pay off a credit card if full with Chase Visa.
Chase Visa is charging me for a $4446.90 finance charge. When I spoke to the Customer Service Manager she offered to reduce the finance charge by half to $223.45. I do not feel I should pay any finance charge since the entire balance was paid off before the due date.

On April 1, 2008 I received two monthly statements for two Chase credit cards I use. One bill was due on April 4 ,2008 and the other on April 7, 2008. With insufficient time for the payment to arrive by mail, I attempted to make an online payment and was never able to get the site to allow me to make the payment that evening. I mailed both payments as early as possible on April 2, 2008. On April 2, 2008 I finally got online and thought I had made minimum payment until the final screen said I had made a payment in an amount far exceeding what was in my checking account. I called Customer service and they canceled the high amount and entered the correct minimum payment.
While on the line I explained how my statements had arrived too late to mail the payment. I was told they were mailed on the tenth of March and I should call my post office. Her only other comment was I could go paperless online. I talked with a post office employee who said since the statements have no post mark it is hard to prove when they were actually mailed, but doubted it was really on the tenth. I agreed, and the fact that all my other mail seems on time and only my Chase statements are repeatedly late. I feel like it is their way to try to force me into being late so the can charge me more. My solution was to do a balance transfer to my Discover card which consistently arrives 30 days before the payment due date. Most of these problem cards were another name when I obtained them. It was after they merged into Chase that I began having the problems.

I have had 3 new credit cards sent to me in the last two weeks. (from different companies). Each has an 800 number to dial to activate the card. It used to be that you dial from your home phone and get an automated message that your card has been activated. NOW a high-pressure sales type representative answers the phone, confirms your information and then tries to get you to enroll in a credit protection plan (in case of illness or injury) and other services. They don't even wait until your current card expires, just randomly send you a new card so they can get you on the phone when you call to activate. I guess because they are not suppose to call customers on the DO NOT CALL list to solicit their services.

I had applied for a Chase/BP Visa credit card to save some money on gas. They have this deal where you get rewards on fuel purchases through BP on up to 10% of your purchases within the first 6 months. Sounds good right? I signed up. Apparently I had a typo with my account number which I never noticed until it was too late. I used the card for gas and then I made two payments on my card WELL IN ADVANCE before anything was due. Then I get my statement and because the account number was incorrect I received two penalties of $40 each on the card. I checked my bank statement and found that I had more than enough funds for the payment. So I called up Chase. They said my account number was incorrect. It seems that I skipped a number and I could not see it because they XXX it out online except for the last four digits which were correct. So I asked for a refund in exchange for the full payment. I was told no. I asked a supervisor with the customer service department, I received another no. So I lost my patience, paid the balance and canceled my card. I paid out an extra $80 on penalties for making two payments in advance without the ability to see or ever know that there was an error until it was too late.

Chase Credit Card and their so called Service is the most unethical and un-American business I have ever dealt with. I paid a bill online because I didn't have time to send a check to them. Apparently I accidentally clicked on a button that says go paperless. This wouldn't have been a problem as long as I received some sort of notice. I didn't receive a bill for months and finally learned about the situation from one of my other credit card providers, Bank of America. I never received any online bills or phone calls from the Chase. So, phone calls and e-mails do not involve paper right? I am so disappointed that they have such a lack of concern for the customer and have the inability to help. After Paying off the balance and having several dead end phone calls with Chase, I received an e-mail stating that my account is now available for online banking. This e-mail came four months later! This has to be illegal. How can Chase run their business four months behind the world and expect us to pay for it? Oh, by the way, we have 100% perfect credit except for this Chase account.
I am sure my credit score is affected in some way. I didn't pay to receive my credit score but my credit report is 100% perfect except for this experience with Chase.

I fell into hard times like many many Americans recently, and my Chase card went past due and delinquent. I'll state up front that my total credit limit on this card is $300, and I think at the highest point of delinquency it had a $310.72 balance from late fees and fines. I, unfortunately, didn't do the right thing in working with them to resolve my issues. This is the first time I've ever found myself in this type of situation, and so I didn't know (I do now!) that most places will try to work with you on your balances if you at least call and discuss things with them. Anyhow, recently things have started to look up for me and my business, so I took the balance and paid it off on Friday Dec. 28, '07. Of course I had to make a secondary payment of about $7 in January to cover some of the interest that had accrued that wasn't listed on the balance previously...but hey... it's paid off now!
Nice. So here it is March, and a friend's grandfather passes away and I take the widow into a nice furniture shop to purchase a nice flag case for the flag from his military funeral. DENIED... WTF! Boy was I irate. I paid for it on another card and went home and called Chase. THEY CLOSED MY ACCOUNT! Even worse, they never told me (or not sufficiently), and the rep on the phone said they didn't have to (which I KNOW is not true). He said if there was notification it would have been at the bottom of my last statement. Well who looks at their bills once they are paid off? You know what REALLY REALLY irked me about the situation? If I login to my account online it shows I have $300 of available credit. How can they tell me I have $300 of available credit and then tell me my account has been closed? Apparently, Chase closed my account because I am too big of a 'risk' for them...a $300 risk. What a slap in the face, too. Here I am trying to do the right thing and pay off the debt that I owe to everyone, and Chase close the account on me.

Suddenly the payment jumped to $150.00, and they called my son constantly saying he is late, when I know they just cashed our check not three days before. My son has not used this card since last Aug/Sept. The only thing that goes on monthly is a $15.00 credit card fraud insurance charge. My husband has paid my son's bill faithfully every month.
We are paying out an extra $600.00 a month now trying to pay for his next semester of college. Having this payment jump from $69.00 to $150.00 is going to make it very hard to make ends meet. The next month a letter arrives saying I am more of a credit risk and guess what, my interest rate is going up to 29.9%. That's right (and don't forget the compound daily part of the equation). I have been a card holder for 9 years and never late and always paid more them min due. I have NEVER seen Major Corporations in the US get away with this kind of business practice as I am witnessing with these credit card companies. It does not surprise me that only in March 2007 Chase (CEO Richard Srednicki),Citi, and Bank of America were being questioned in Washington DC on their credit card practices and yet I see them doing Business as usual.

However, in accordance with the term associated with your account, you may lose the promotional APR as of the first day of the billing cycle in which a default occurs. If this is the case, your next billing statement will indicate that your promotional APR has changed to your standard APR.
On 02/2008 's statement, they do charge me over $260 finance charge and $39 late fee. I have never made one late payment on either of my accounts. Both of my accounts had very low interest rates - first 0% and then 7.9 and 8.9 respectively. I think it is outrageous that Chase is allowed to do this to consumers who have never made a late payment.
Furthermore, forcing consumers to close accounts lowers their credit score. This seems inherently unfair and wrong when the same consumers have paid their bills on time. Chase likes to lure consumers in with low introductory rates but doesn't seem to have any intention of honoring their offers.

Credit card introductory rate was 0% for 12 months. At the end of the introductory period, the rate would default to 9.9%. The original terms of agreement stated that late payments, returned payments and over limits would terminate the introductory rate and default to 9.9%. The payment was missed by 1 week, and the rate defaulted to 29.99%. No change in terms notification regarding the new default rate was ever sent. This is not an issue of losing the introductory rate but rather imposing a default rate that was never accepted. Upon inquiry, Chase then only offered a home equity line of credit to pay off the high interest credit card. This all happened within 6 months of purchasing a home.
This is a transparent attempt to try and force me to secure an existing, unsecured loan. Now I am accruing interest that exceeds the payments being made.

My Chase Credit Card expired in July, 2007, and was not renewed; however charges continued to accumulate after expiration including new charges every month for TLG*Everyday $11.99 (or more) and TLG*Travel $119.99--for services that I was unaware that I had. I am 83-years-old and do not travel. My son called Chase in October to get a balance so I could pay Chase off and close the account. He was given a payoff total of over $22,000 which I immediately sent in. However I received another bill for $208.28, which I though was included in the amount I had sent in the large check. My son did get them to stop the TLG accounts, and I do not recall how many years they were on my account before my son questioned those charges. I now owe $337+ due to continued late fees of $39 per month plus finance charges on the $208.28 which I though was paid off.
My son contacted Chase in Dec. and Jan., and they will not reverse any of the finance or late charges. They told my son today that they could not have quoted him the $22,000 amount because they are not able to quote payoffs. They will not accept anything less than the $337.41 due now. They prey on the elderly and have profited from services I never used--and did not realize I was being billed for those services.

I went to a Chase Bank and paid my credit card bill in person. It was 2 days late. I had never been late before. The next month, my interest rate had more than doubled. It also took Chase 4 days to process the payment. When I called customer service, they told me I should have paid over the Internet, because that would have been processed immediately. That's ridiculous. I then complained about the interest rate increase. I also asked where in the agreement I accepted did it say that my interest rate could be doubled because of a single late payment. I had accepted one of Chase's promotions for a low interest rate for the life of the loan. No where in that offer did it mention late payments. The customer service rep said that low promotional rates always end if there is a late payment. So I dug thru the promotional material. On an insert that looked like a common ad (not a disclosure agreement) there was a statement that interest rates may change if the terms of the credit card agreement were not followed. That supposedly was the disclosure.
I have had this credit card for 13 years with Chase, and never been late. I have several accounts at Chase. They didn't care. I threatened to close my accounts, and they don't care about that either. I spoke three times to a branch manager, and from the sounds of it the branches have absolutely no influence over the credit card division at Chase, so that has not helped either. I called Chase customer service again, and they said that they could lower my interest rate by 1% as a gesture of good will, since I had been a customer for so long. The customer service rep then read a long disclosure message to me about interest rates and terms of the agreement. When he got done reading the disclosure, I said I didn't want to accept. He told me it was too late - he had already made the change. I asked him how he could make that change when I had not agreed to it, and he didn't have an answer to that.

In October 2007 I received a monthly statement from Chase; they raised my interest by more than 7 1/2. I have never been late on any credit card and had this card since 1997. I called to see what steps as a consumer I could take to reduce the interest rate, assuming there was some magical secret number of a balance I could bring it down to, to reduce my interest rate. They said in such a way that led me to believe everything was arbitrary and there were no written set rules, and they reduced my limit, which damaged my FICO score. Since then I have not used the card for any reason other than to pay the balance and have paid the minimum monthly AND the current month's finance charges. Even though the interest rate has not gone up or down, my monthly minimum keeps going up, and my monthly finance charges keep going up month after month. There is no mathematical reason why this should take place. I hate Chase Visa and Master Card credit cards
Damaged FICO score. Monthly minimums keep rising and just eats my wallet.

When a credit card account is closed (i.e. due to loss or theft), automatic bill payments should not be accepted by the CC company and certainly should not be transfered to the new card (when applicable)--especially not over a month later. Closed should mean closed. I would rather have the security of knowing something is over and accept the responsibility of redirecting my automatic payments and any consequences from denied payments (most companies are very reasonable when contacted) than having to constantly monitor my bill like a hawk to see what charges the CC company randomly accepts. There should be legislation barring them from this practice especially when directly requested by the consumer.

I received a confirmation of payment received and a confirmation number. The following month's statement showed that I had not made any payment the previous month and that I had defaulted on the terms of agreement.
I immediately contacted a Chase representative and explained what had happened and they stated that I could not pay my CHASE CREDIT CARD with a Chase savings account and only a checking account. The online bill pay did not specify this and accepted my payment. The rep took away the late fee service charge but did not keep my lower interest rate of 4.99 for life.

I have always paid this bill on time and in full for 10 years...but for some reason this time they got fee happy!
I called them 3 times and one out of the 3 times I spoke with a supervisor; all declined to reverse or waive these fees! So I closed the account, and they were more than happy to do that! BUYER BEWARE. Chase has got to be by far the most unethical, disrespectful bank that I have ever dealt with. They are greedy and want to maximize their profits at the expense of the consumer. The situation involved my credit card. I was charged late fees, over limit fees, and various other finance charges and fees that totaled $240, in one month. I chose to use their online service to transfer money from my other bank account to my credit card account, held by Chase. Chase charges a fee for this transaction. So my account was over the limit. Chase also charged me an insufficient funds fee. I disputed this and sent them a bank statement PROVING that there was money in my account at the time, and there is no way that the account had insufficient funds. I finally closed the account and paid it in full. But the fees never stopped.
Did you know that if you have a balance on your Chase account, you will have to pay compound interest on that dollar amount regardless of how its computed? Let me elaborate: If you closed your account (which you should do if your reading this), and you paid the balance in full, the interest that was charged will still be valid on that account. If the interest amount is $100, if you pay that $100 you will receive a bill the next month, charging you interest on that amount that you owed. This cycle will not break, until you pay them more than they bill you for and hope to get a refund check in the mail. I am very dissatisfied with Chase, and have done everything in my power to make others aware of their business model: GET AS MUCH AS YOU CAN FROM THESE IGNORANT PEOPLE WHILE THE PICKING'S GOOD! My loss is your gain, as I have valuable advice: Never bank with Chase, do your research. You have the power of Google at your fingertips. What happened to me could happen to you.

I then requested my bank statements so I could check each month. I was horrified at what I found. Month after month my bank shows a payment received on time and Chase shows the payment received the next day and charged me a $39.00 late fee. This has happenend to the tune of over $400.00, then they charge an overlimit fee on top. I had NO IDEA!
I had made arrangements with an agent from Chase last summer when we were going out of the country to pay my payments ahead so I would not have to worry (this was before we had bill pay). I paid 4 times the payment to cover the two months we were gone. They charged me a late fee for both months anyways and now they say they do not make those arrangements. But I have the letter confirming those arrangements and the agent's name. Chase just responded back to me after I sent them proof saying that their records are correct and my bank is incorrect! My husband and I have had our Chase Credit Card for several years. We have always paid our bill on time and for more than the minimum payment. During the recent Christmas holidays, I went over the credit limit, assuming that I would have to pay a fee and that my minimum payment would go up which is all understandable. When I opened my the bill I received after Christmas, I discovered that my minimum payment jumped from $200.00 to $568.00 (for going over my credit limit by $400.00). When I called to inquire, the csr stated, much to my surprise that it is Chase's practice to make the consumer pay the entire amount of the overage at one time in addition to your minimum payment and of course the $39.00 fee.
I paid the amount requested a week and a half before the due date (1/6/08). On 1/3/08 I received a call from Chase stating that if I did not pay an additional $176.00 before 1/6/08 they would turn me into a collection agency! How can they do that when I paid the requested amount on my bill and paid it before it was even due? The csr replied and I quote, "Because you did a bad thing, and there are more charges on the card that posted after your statement." So, I promptly paid the $176.00. When I came home from work late Sunday evening (1/13/08) I saw a call on my caller id from Chase (9:30 pm). There was no message so I assumed it was a telemarketer. On 1/16/09 I received yet another call from Chase. The customer service representative stated that I was still over the credit limit due to $155.00 in finance charges and if it was not paid I would be turned into the collection agency. My husband and I have been excellant customers (accept for the one over the credit I spoke of), always have paid the bill early and up until the recent charge paid more than asked. We have dealt with many companies through the years and Chase is by far the worst, bordering on (in my opinion) criminal behavior. I told the csr that the bill would be paid when I received my statement and to please quit calling my home. The csr replied that they would call my home every 3-5 days until this was paid. When I asked if I was going to be turned in to collections she replied that she did not know. When I reminded her that that was what she stated at the beginning of the call, she replied, "Well, what do you think?" Very rude, disreputable company and my husband and I will pay this card off in full and never deal with them again. I opened the BP chase card in 2003. My wife and I have put a lot of money on this card over the years, and have paid it off numerous times. In August of 2007, I made an online payment of approximately $6500.00. This was the balance that was reflected on the online statement, so that is what I paid. (Just FYI...I had signed up for the e-statements in Feb 2007 and do not actually recall if I ever received one or not...I always made a habit of checking the balance online). After paying off the balance I never received another e-statement. Today I attempted to use the card and it was declined. Turns out that the balance that I believed I had paid off, was charged a daily finance charge PRIOR to being paid off and a $21 dollar balance was left on the card. Since I was not receiving the e-statements I did not know about the balance. And according to the supervisor I spoke with, because I was signed up for the e-statements, they do not send any notices via US mail telling you that your account has not been paid. They do not call you either.
So as of today I have an 89 day late payment on my credit report. I asked them to look at my history and to think about why I would sacrifice my credit score over a $21 dollar balance (especially since I had just paid them over $6,000). They assured me they understood but because the email statements were not getting kicked back to them, and it was not a bank error, they would not remove the negative mark on my credit reports...my score is 735, or at least it was. Additionally they cancelled the card and never notified me of that either. When I mentioned to the supervisor that I would dispute it with the credit agencies, she responded by telling me that it would do no good because they would simply state the account was late. What a system we have to deal with this stuff.
One last gripe...I had a second card with them that had not been used since October 2006. Apparently a charge was made in October 2007 and that account is now 50 plus days late. Again no phone calls or emails telling me about the late payments. I called to dispute the charge but the system was down and I was told to call back later.

This caused me to--according to their claim--pay late for several months. Of course, this meant my standard payment no longer covered the new late fee+unpaid amount+monthly bill.
When I finally paid this overdue amount off (unknowingly because, again, I didn't read my mail), they changed my due date--without telling me again. When I called Visa to cancel my account and to dispute the November charge, Chase personnel couldn't help me with the former and transferred me to TWX, a third party magazine subscription company associated with Chase. I confirmed that my magazine subscription was canceled in September and requested that the $30 charge be reversed: this was done through TWX's automated attendant.
Today, I had to go through the whole thing all over again; this time, to tell Chase that I didn't want to pay for the late fees assessed on the $30 back balance. Chase personnel said they can't reverse these charges until the original $30 charge is dropped. And I can't get the $30 charge dropped through TWX because TWX doesn't recognize my card # given that my account is closed. In short, Chase won't take responsibility for this feedback loop and help me reverse the $30 charge their own reseller infers is invalid. I asked them how was that possible, and they said my interest rate had been raised to 19.99% in November, and since I had not paid the full amount (an extra $73) I was put into default and all my current offers, 2.9%, 5.9% and 7.9% were revoked. I kept asking how did my account go to that interest rate when I have never been late before.
The story is horrible and I could go on and on but this is the short version. They said it was not because I had not paid them or anything like that or even that my credit score was low--but because I had too many credit cards with high balances. They said they sent a letter in July telling me I could freeze my current interest rates, but I received no such letter. These people are scum. I ask all of you to contact this address: creditcards@hsgac.senate.gov and tell your story. The more stories they get the better. Chase claims they are working with people to try to fix this, and they are lying to the subcommittee that is in charge of investigating them. You can see what chase said at this web site address. http://www.cardratings.com/creditcardnews/2007/11/chase-will-no-longer-increase-rates.html A complaint may also be submitted to the Consumer Action hotline by telephone at: 415-777-9635 or through their online web complaint form at: http://www.consumeraction.org/hotline/complaint_form/ .
If you cannot do this speak to a manager, they are there but have been prepped to not allow anyone through, if you get someone who is adamant about not letting you speak to someone, call back and ask again. I got through; so can you. We lost a few hundred dollars and probably will lose a few more hundreds before we can get them the full amount. Our 5 children will get less this year for Christmas, but I know that our Lord and Savior protects those who believe in him. I believe so whole-heartedly that what goes around comes around. What Chase has done will come back to them. I almost feel sorry for Chase the Grinch. They are lost in the lies of money. May God help their lost souls and the people that work for them.

They keep giving you offers and transfer checks, but for no apparent reason at all they all of a sudden send a flyer with very small print that they are raising your rates to like 23.9%. I have to accounts with them. The first one I didn't catch the small print. On the other I did. You must write to them requesting they freeze your account and close it and they will then freeze whatever rate it set at that time. Otherwise, your rate and your payments go way up.
I had my card in various other forms for over 25 years and never missed a payment. One day, I was shopping on Amazon.com and saw an offer t0 save 10% by opening an account. I did the on-line request. What I didn't know was that Chase was behind the offer. When they discovered I had requested another card, they not only denied my request, but substantially lowered the available credit on both my existing accounts with no further explanation and raised my rate on one . I am in the process of having my transferred to another bank.

I purchased items from Amazon.com in December 2006, and was enticed to open a Chase Amazon credit card, and thereby save $30.00 off my first purchase. After that I received one bill in the mail in January 2007, which I paid in full. Later, I ordered more merchandise from Amazon, but Chase did not send me any more statements or notifications of any kind regarding the outstanding balance of approximately $56.00. In November 2007 I ran my credit report and found that this credit card now has a balance of over $200.00, and had been charged off to a collection agency.
Chase did not notify me in any way of this situation, but instead has simply allowed finance charges and late fees to accumulate. If I had actually received the account statements from Chase that were supposed to have been sent, I would have paid them in full immediately, because that is the way I transact business. I have no interest in incurring unnecessary financial liabilities, nor in skipping out on any debts whatsoever. Anyone who thoroughly reviews my credit history will see that this is a fact, and will also see that the current situation with this Chase account is an exception. This exception was caused by some kind of error, breakdown or policy within Chase, and it needs to be thoroughly investigated. By this practice of theirs, they have now damaged my excellent credit rating, which I have been very careful and diligent in maintaining.
My credit report now has a negative item on it as a result of this. If I try to get financing for anything, I will not be able to get lower interest rates that I have earned by handling my debts appropriately. Also, Chase is trying to collect over $200.00 from me, and I have had to spend time and money of my own with research and correspondence to try to resolve this matter, and restore my good credit. I do not know what other consequences there are which have not become apparent yet.

Without my permission, Chase Bank stopped sending statements through the mail and did not send me an e-mail notification of outstanding bills. As a result, I was unaware of a few purchases I had not paid--until I received a phone call last week. I paid this bill immediately and have been charged $178.33 in penalties and late fees. I have 8 or 9 credit cards and always pay my bills on time and have never had to pay late fees or interest. Chase has charged me close to 30% interest. I feel it is extortion.
It is not so much the $178 as the mental anguish and sense of injustice and vulnerability. I feel it is criminal to hide bills and spring charges on unsuspecting credit card holders.

Chase Visa charges late fees of $39.00 even when a payment is not late. I carried a relatively small balance of $1100.00 on my Chase Visa card. During the month of November I made two payments on that card (one on November 8th for $500.00 and another on November 19th for $500.00). When I checked my statement they charged me a $39.00 late fee for being late on December 10.
When I called to complain about this I was told that the payment of $500.00 on November 19th cannot count toward my minimum due on December 10 because they applied that payment toward my balance. Apparently I paid it too early! I have since canceled my credit card with Chase Visa and have paid off the balance.

Chase solicited my business through a purchase I made through Amazon.com. If I used Chase they would credit my bill for $30.00. I used the card for several purchases and always paid on time. I then decided to pay the balance off in full, or so I thought. I use a credit monitoring system that reports any adverse information or inquiries to my credit reports. When I checked on an alert I received from them, Chase had reported that I was more than 30 days late on a payment and owed $56! They had charged me some sort of interest rate and a late fee and reported me to the credit bureau! My score slid from 748 to 668. 80 Points!
First I called to complain that I never received any notice (e-mail, statement) of any kind for this, and asked how could I possibly owe any more money if I had paid the balance in full weeks before the due date! The Chase rep could not give me a payoff balance when I asked, would not remove the charges, and mumbled something that I signed up for an electronic billing notification. I said that was ludicrous. In other words, he would not commit to telling me that I even owed just the $56. He told me to call right before the due date. Huh? That's exactly what I was trying to do. I have paid these extortionists the $56, but can bet they will come back with some other ridiculous charge. I will never ever do business with Chase again and demanded that the account be closed. It will be months before I can repair the damage done to my credit report. I have noticed many similar complaints. This should be a class-action lawsuit .

I started to use Chase - Continental business credit card since June. 2007. I paid my balance in full every month except Sept. 2007. So, on the Oct. statement, there is a late fee and financial change. I paid in full (including the financial change) on time on 10/22/07; but again, on Nov.'s statement, there is $2.68 financial change. Since I paid Oct.s bill on time and made full payment, it seems to me this charge is incorrect. On Nov, I paid my balance on time, but did not pay $2.68; on Dec.'s statement, this $2.68 balance became $6.66. See? The interest rate is over 200%! I called the customer service: 18008755220 several times regarding this issue, but I did not get any satisfactory response. Some of the representatives are rude. This makes me very upset; it is just because of a one day late payment.

Received a bill from Chase credit cards regarding our account which had a 5.99% interest rate. The bill indicated that our $400 a month payment was to be $659 . When I called they said that our interest rate has been increased to 19.49% due to credit card balances rising, and there was nothing they could do.
This payment has drained us mentally and has us barely making our bill payments each month. We are also afraid this will start happening with other credit cards; then we will be bankrupt.

Chase, in an effort to look better to the public, has done it again. They no longer will support the practice of Universal Default, so instead they have decided to increase their interest rate to 31.49% as of the first billing cycle included with the February 1st billing. Well, much to my surprise I was hit with the increase from a random credit report review from Chase back in Sept. No, my payments were not late, and yes I always paid more than the minimum payment due even if it was only $25 to $50 more. Now I as well as many others will have the privilege of paying a higher APR if we choose not to opt out and agree to this insane act. So here it is, as Chase states on their pamphlet, to manage good credit one way is not to close your older accounts which could cause a drop in your credit score. So if you follow their advice you would have to accept the increase (which by the way I AM NOT!) to maintain a good credit score.
Now I ask you, is this the kind of banking practice that the American Public should have to accept from those who have the ability to keep us in debt or force us to seek credit help or file for bankruptcy and lose everything we have tried to build over the years?
The economic damage will be felt by myself and those who accept the increased APR. The longer term damage will be that of a credit score which I have worked so hard to repair from my youth. No physical damage resulted but emotional damage and financial will undoubtedly result if this pratice continues by the banking industry. It will effect us all, even if we only use department store credit cards.

I recently received a notice that my APR for the credit card account I have with Chase is going to be raised from 6.99 to 19.49%. There was no reason given, and I have had not a single late payment on any account in over 15 years. I have sent them a letter opting out of their change and also advising them and anyone else that I will no longer do business with them, for them, or with any organization associated with Chase.
This change would in effect change my monthly mininimum payment by a factor of 3x.

I had an $9,000 balance with Chase at 4.99% that cost me about $35/mo in interest. My wife asked if she could transfer her $11,000 credit card to my account to take advantage of a 3.99% offer. I called Chase and did the transfer online. When my wife received her next paycheck she sent a payment to Chase on the 7th of the month. I sent the rest of the payment a week later. The first bill we received after the balance transfer had a late fee and the interest rates were raised to 14.9%.
I called them and asked why? They said my wife's payment was EARLY by one day before the closing date and was applied to the previous month. I said but my due date is the 28th so why is a payment on the 7th applied to the previous month? They said that's how their billing works. I asked if they were really going to raise my interest rates for paying early, and he said he spends all day answering calls just like mine. There's nothing I can do!
This scam has caused my monthly interest amount to jump from $75 to over $250. I am transferring all of my money from Chase, and I will never do business with any branch of Chase as long as I live!

I didn't even realize I used that card, I thought I used my regular card and I was told I checked a box to have the bill sent electronical, which I never did. It would have gone on for years if I hadn't run my credit report. They had all my info to call or write and never did.
An $80.00 purchase has cost me over 2 hundred dollars and my credit score has been lowered. I just bought a car and could not get the lower interest rate because of this. I think Chase should be investigated for unfair practices.

My husband and I have a home equity line of credit with Chase. In April '07 his company went on strike and in May, I had to have major surgery and was off work for a while. My husband called Chase in April and asked what we could do about our financial situation. We wanted to make our payments, of course, but we were temporarily strapped.
He was informed by someone, representing their self as a supervisor with authority to make decisions, that they could "re-age" the account. In May we received a call that we were more than a month late on our payment. The caller said no "re-age" showed on their records.
Since the re-age hadn't been granted, we had fallen behind and the late fee was $150 each month! So the month we thought we had been granted a reprieve, we were actually charged an additional $150 for being late.
In May, I was told I could get the "re-age" if I would pay $389 in past dues on the spot. So I did. The re-age was not granted again, but I was not informed so again we were late by their records and another $150 late fee was tacked on to the payment.
The past 6 months I have paid thousands of dollars to Chase and they say I am still behind and late. My husband and I are going to have to dip into his 401K to take a hardship loan out to get Chase off our backs.

I went to use my card and it was declined. I logged into my Chase account and found it over the limit. I noticed my interest rate went from 12.9 to 26.4.
I called customer service and was told they can do nothing. I have had this account nearly 2 years never been late in paying $82 a month average. Now my payment for Dec is $191, due to over limit fees and the much higher interest fees.
I told customer service there is no way I can pay such high payments. I was told, "oh, well". I got a response from Chase stating after review there was nothing they could do.
