I received an offer for a Capital One personal loan and applied on-line. The offer I received was not what I applied for, which was a possibility stated on their offer. However, there was not an option on-line to not accept their offer. They proceed assuming the offer has been accepted. There should be an option to not proceed with the loan offer on-line. I immediately called to stop the procedure and was told I'd have to call back on Monday, that a check would be sent to me for the loan amount and to not accept it--just not to cash it. I did not accept this loan on the terms they gave me and did not have an opportunity to refuse their counter offer. This is my major complaint: I should have been able to cancel the request on-line.
Proceeding as though the offer is acceptable will affect my credit rating. The ridiculous amount of interest they offered would not help consolidate debt, but only add to it.

All these years I was never late ever in my Capital One payments. All of a sudden, I noticed that they jacked up my APR from 14.99% to 19.99%. They say it is not due to my fault but to economic reasons and that they SENT ME A LETTER to notify me on this increase. I never received any letter or notification. WHAT A RIP-OFF. One tries so hard to maintain a good credit relationship with Capital One...but what do you get? They suck up every fiber of resources one has.

My wife died, so like a nice guy I let Capital One know. Now they rejected my credit card and will not reinstate it so I lose 33,000 rewards to apply for a new card. They say they do not hassle. Boo hoo. I am still awaiting a phone call that was promised five days ago. I owe them $1200+. Are they going to cancel that debt? No way, I bet.

I had my Capital One account increased from 6.9 to 13.9 for no reason. As a long time Capitol One card holder, what sent me over the edge is their adamant refusal to remove a $39 late fee when in fact I had paid 3 weeks early. I paid $468 on July 27th for that billing period (July 22 to Aug 21st) and then I paid $1000 on August 21st. Well they told me the 21st is the end of my billing cycle so in essence I paid twice on my July bill. According to them I got a late payment fee as that 2nd payment could not count towards my August bill. That really irked me!
I never pay late and usually pay multiple times per billing period and sometimes pay off the entire balance each month. They said it was their policy that because I did not make a payment for my August billing cycle there was nothing they could do about removing the fee. I did get transferred to the reps Supervisor but even after repeating how I paid 1 day too early, she held her ground with the same policy mantra, refusing to either send me higher up the chain or providing any type of Customer satisfaction. I have no choice now but to pay my balance and close the account. I will no longer do business with these folks. Where is their Customer Service?

This is a dispute with Capital One that involves two accounts. One is for $1641, November, 2003 and the second, $1374, in November, 2003. I did not open two accounts with them, and I did know until today that it was even possible to open more than one account within the same month. I had excellent credit until I moved to Maryland and bought my house, but it has not been up to par since. I did have one account with Capital One but not two. The reason that I found out about this was I was doing a re-finance and trying to clear up my credit, and this was brought to my attention by the accountant. I've had to get an attorney to help on this confusing problem.

I tried to close my Capital One account in January 2007. I called customer service to let them know/to ask about any fees I may owe, and then I paid in full. At no point did they tell me that the account balance had to stay at 0 for 30 days. The next month I had a $5.99 charge for the CreditInform service. The CSR said nothing about this fee. I assumed it would be stopped with the account closure, as CreditInform is a service offered by CapitalOne.
The next month I got a statement for the $5.99, another $5.99, and a $39 late fee. I called the company to cancel whatever service they were charging me for, and again to close. I was told that because my account balance wasn't at $0 they could still charge things to my account.
I wrote to Capital One explaining that I thought the account was closed, that I was unhappy with their services, and that I would pay the $5.99 but not the new fees. I sent a check for $5.99, which they promptly cashed. The next month I had another $5.99 charge and another $39 late fee.
At this point I contacted the Attorney General's office to complain. Over the next several months, the AG's office attempted to contact Capital One (3 times I believe), with no success. During this time, C1 continued to charge me late fees, although as part of my customer agreement all fees being inquired about were supposed to be put on hold until the issue was resolved.

Just a few months ago, we negotiated a fixed rate with a supervisor at Capital One for 12.9%. When I went online to pay the latest credit card bill, I was shocked to see the finance charges so high. I saw our interest rate had gone up to almost 20%. My husband called C1, talked to both a customer service rep, and a supervisor. We were told the same everyone else is hearing, it was a business decision.
When we told them we were offered a balance transfer and may just transfer our balance out, the supervisor said good, go ahead. Is that customer service?

In 2005 I called my credit card company, MBNA, and asked why my interest rate went up. MBNA told me it was due to nonpayment of a Capital One credit card. I told them I only had one Visa and that was MBNA.
MBNA did a three-way call with Capital One and I gave them my information in an effort to fix whatever problem existed. Capital One said I had a credit card with them for approximately $500 that was two years over due. I told Capital One I had never used this card and it must have been stolen.
Then Capital One started calling and harassing me. I figured Capital One would investigate this used card.
In the fall of 2006, Capital One hired an attorney to sue me for the $500 that went up to $1500. I spoke with the police who told me I needed a copy of all the charge slips and all of the monthly statements where this card had been used. Since I didn't have any, I told Capital One's attorney this and they told me they requested them from Capital One. The attorney never provided this to me. The next thing I know I got a paper in the mail saying there was a lien on my home for $1500.
I met with a Cincinnati Police Detective who helped me get a local police report in Northern Kentucky where I live. Now I am stuck with a lien on my home and a severely damaged credit report. I have never had credit problems in the past. I always pay all of my bills on time and my credit report showed this until this credit card issue.

Capital One raised my 9.9 fixed to over 25% APR. When questioned they claimed they did this to all their customers. They claimed I failed to respond to a opt-in document sent to me. (I never received this document). As a long time customer they offered me a 12.9% rate. My rate was a fixed 9.9 for life. I believe this is a scam for them to force customers into default status so Capital One can write off the loans (tax break). Then they send the default accounts to in-house collections where they will reinstate reasonable rates for collection. (All proceeds at that point are pure profit to the company). Many/most customers who carry balances won't have any option to protest and be forced into the higher rate. I'm prepared to join a class action suit when it inevitably comes.
I paid 27.6% interest one month before I noticed the rate change. I'm also forced to pay 27.6% interest again when I close my account--an amount about $300 more than my normal 9.9% interest.

My husband, who had a credit card with Capital One, died 7/21/07. He always paid his bills on time. Capital One was notified of his death.
I made repeated calls trying to get a statement of the charges due for the period just before 7/21/07. Instead, I received dunning calls at home saying that money was due. Finally, I received a statement: for the period of Aug 20-Sept 19, 2005, a very large bill of over $4000, which had been paid on time in 2005.
Clearly, they believe that widows are addled, and will pay anything. I have given up calling them. I believe they are incompetent or dishonest, or both. They have the nerve, too, to solicit my business by sending me applications for their credit card!

I can join the chorus of people complaining about Capitol One's change of interest rates. Long term Platinum Card holders our interest jumped almost 10% points.
We were told that information had been sent tell us of this business decision (I'm guess they got hammered by bad mortgages and decided to get their money back on the backs of their credit card holders). At any rate, we do not believe we ever got such a letter. If we did, the information was well buried so we wouldn't notice it.
We will be paying off and closing our account immediately.

When I called to complain and pay (reluctantly) these charges and close my account, the representative refused to close the account and refused to transfer me to a supervisor!

I promptly applied for another credit card with a 12-month, no interest and zapped Capital One out of my life.
They had the nerve to send me a "special offer" stating: unlike some companies, we won't increase your aprs because you pay late only once, go over your credit limit, or your credit record changes with another lender. The truth is, that unlike other companies, they raise their rates just because they can!

They told me on the phone it was no fault of mine that this rate was changed. It was a management decision to change the rate. I feel that this is not a lawful practice and would like to know how they can just raise you rate because it is a mangement decision.

They also said that the payoff amount calculated by the collections department was wrong so my account was not actually paid off.
I sent in another payoff amount of $107.83, that they received on Oct 3. They said that was late and tacked on another $29.00 charge.

I have had a Capital One credit card for over 6 years. I decide that I wanted to close my account so I spoke with a rep for the pay off amount. I asked if I would need to pay more than that amount to cover any additional fees that ALWAY appear without explanation on my bill. The rep assured me that the amount was correct to close my card. She informed me that as long as I didn't use my card for thirty days, the account would record a zero balance and close like I have requested.
30 days later I checked my account and the automated voice tree informed me that I have a balance of $40. After calling several different numbers, I finally reach an actual live person who informs me that they added an additional interest fee and that now I have a balance of $45.
As I type this, I am being forwarded to a manager/supervisor. I've been on hold for over a half an hour. Capital One has no problem charging their customers for additional hidden fees but can't provide an actual human to answer your questions in a sufficient manner.

I was given a $15 late fee, but I never received a bill in September for this account. I did receive a bill on 10/11/07 with another late fee of $15 for a total of $35.02.
When I tried to call again, I realized that the reason I never talked with them previously is because they do not have an option on their automated menu to speak to a customer service representative. I pushed 8 different numbers and went through 7 different menus to finally reach an actual person.
Three hours on hold, 3 customer service representatives, 2 account supervisors, and 1 account manager later has worked! I now have a zero balance but at the cost of my sanity.
I did make use of my time on hold and filed a complaint with the BBB, the FTC, and the Office of Comptroller of Currency. I was told by one of the supervisors that if you keep hitting pound at the beginning of your call, you will reach a customer service representative.

I was a valuable customer of Capital One for 7 years. I always paid my bills on time. Then, in May 2007 I found out that Capital One put on my credit report that I had paid 30 days late in December 2006.
I sent the money on time and in time. But because of their error, because of their mistake, they did not post my payment until 3 days after the due date and they still rated me as being 30 days late.
When you call them you might as well be speaking sign language. They don't seem to understand and or know what they are doing. When you ask for a supervisor they refuse to transfer you and argue with you. Their rates are very high and we customers do not get any respect.
So a couple months ago I decided to close my account with them. I paid the full amount and closed my account. They tried to keep me by offering some stupid deals that I refused because I do not trust them and I really do not like them.
After my account was closed and the full amount paid, I received 3 weeks ago an invoice from them asking me for money when my account is suppose to be closed.
They are crazy.
So I wrote them with all the proof I have to show them that the full amount has been paid and my account closed.

The usual Capitol One experience: Over limit fee where none should have happened, and the resultant triggering of all the Universal Default problems. I have worked for nearly 10 years to rebuild my credit (following bankruptcy in 1998). To that end, I literally became obsessive in my managing of accounts. I'm online MULTIPLE times a day checking and rechecking all my account information. In these 9+ years, I've never had a negative on my credit--not a single late payment, careful use of credit, every bill (including medical bills) paid timely and in full. In short, I watch what I'm doing and, as a result, have a perfect record. Capitol One, in one fell swoop, ruined it all. I literally haven't slept in the last three weeks, I am so FUMING FURIOUS at Capitol One. Worst part of all, I know I will never have anybody batting for me in this matter such as the Congress of this country, and will never be able to undo the damage(even though I've written over six letters thus far, including one to the AG of the state of Virginia). So I've decided my only recourse is to literally start up my own anti-Capitol One website, which is what I'm working on now. If it helps steer even 10 people away from Capitol One, the website will have been entirely worth it.

I repeatedly told him I just wanted to cancel. Finally, he agreed and said he had read a legal statement to me before he would deactivate my account. In the statement, there was mention of membership fees that may be levied to my account. I made it clear to him that I have never paid a membership fee and I wanted to be clear I would not be assessed any of these fees while my account was being deactivated. I had not been late on any of them. Since I am not working I was making minimum payment on my credit cards. They said I could close the accounts and not be accessed the higher interest rate, and I chose to do that. Now I have not used my cards since I closed the accounts but continue to pay my bills, but I have a problem. Every month when I get my statement I have been accessed an over-the-limit fee on my cards. What? I don't even used the cards. They say it is interest that knocks it into the over-the-limit fee. So I have to make minimum payment plus interest fees! Why do they put minimum payment if that is not really what it is. I have filed with BBB to try and get these over-the-limit fees reimbersed and to find out why they never honored my credit protection that I paid for almost 2 years.
I now have to struggle to pay my credit card bills. I am already behind on some bills because I am still waiting to receive my disability benefits. Capitol One is making it impossible for me to pay by adding these over-the-limit fees to my account, and I may end up getting behind, and the worrying is getting worse. When I called to question the payee of a transaction on my monthly statement, I was offered cash, interest-free for 18 months, at a cost of 2% of the cash amount. When I called to ask why this wasn't on a separate statement, I was told that from now on, any payment I make on my account, 90% of my payment will go towards the loan amount, and only 10% to my purchases. That leaves me paying monthly finance charges on my purchases, which ends up costing me more than if I never accepted the loan.
This deal leaves me paying 16% on my account balance. Which I could have paid down if I hadn't taken out the loan through them. I never received anything in writing, it was all verbal over the phone.

First of all, thank you for the information provided out here it was very helpful when I had to contact Capital One for the same issue that everyone else has been reporting.
I was a longstanding customer with Capital One with a fixed 9.9% apr, but received notification that the rate was going up to 15.9% variable. I have called and decline the terms, but I wanted to share with you all my experience in trying to reach a person at Capital One.
Normally if you hit 0 on your phone you would be transferred to customer service. I hit 0 and was asked to make another selection, I hit it again and got the same message. I hit it a third time and was finally transferred to customer service. I did speak with an actual person and my request to decline the change in terms was put into effect. I will have to wait and see, but that was my experience in getting this far.

I have had a credit card through Capital One since 1998 that was supposedly 9.9% for life. I have never paid late, never been overlimit and rarely carry a balance over 6 months. I received a notice in August, 2007 that they were changing the terms of my card and raising my rate to prime + 7.65%.
I called customer service and was told the change was for economic reasons. I asked them to send me a copy of my original contract but what they sent me was what they referred to as my original offer. It doesn't have the words For Life anywhere on it. I truly believe the card I applied for said 9.9% For Life.

I originally had a fixed rate for LIFE of 8.9%. In March I received a notice that my rate was increasing to 13.9%. I have been given excuses that the Feds increased interest rates or that this is simply a business decision. My complaint that a fixed rate was not the same as a variable rate and could not be changed fell on deaf ears.
I have recorded several conversations with their account specialists and was told that I did not have authorization to record the call even tho Capital Ones' automated system plainly tells you that this call may be recorded for quality control purposed. What can I do?
I finally got the name and fax number of Capital Ones' CEO of Richard Fairbanks as I was told that there was no one in more authority than the office in Virginia that I could speak to. This same thing happened several years ago and after much ado I was finally transferred to an office in NYC where the rate was immediately restored to its original level. I have excellent credit and a limit of 25k but only have < a $300 balance and soon it won't be that!

I was assessed a Late Fee for which I adamantly disagreed with. I prepaid one month early about $2500 of a current's month purchase transactions. Capital One charged me a $29 late fee because my prepayment didn't fall into their billing cycle. Their system can't recognize prepayments for purchases made a whole month in advance. Their system did see, however, the small residual balance not paid of $130 ($80 residual balance & finance charge) and thus the late fee was added because a $10 minimum fee was not made. (Hello!! I paid $2500 a month earlier.)
I was told by the rep that I should not pay so early and that I should try and pay -in the future- right after the billing cycle ended so that the system could see the payments and not charge the late fees. Imagine that!! I asked her to write it off and she said they can't. I intentionally prepaid so I wouldn't be hit with a late charge and they got me anyway.
I would also like to add that Capital One has changed their late fee policy. It used to be a standard amount but now it goes up with the purchase you've made. In addition-I had them reverse out a finance charge assesed to my account in error. I had prepaid a week early on that's month's purchases and their system didn't recognize it either. They did reversed the $8.00 out though. But not the $29 late fee.
You've got to watch them like hawks!!
What's in my wallet???? Soon to be moths! Thanks Capital One!

I have been making my payments weeks before the due date of the 30-31st of the month .. I have recieved late fees for being early .. It appears that any payments no matter how many you send in before the 6th of the mont are credited to the prior month Ie; say your statement says due by august 31 and you pay august 3 and have already paid for July that amount goes toward july so if you do not make yet another payment in August you are considered late and charged a $30 late fee .. there is a 5 day limbo at CAPITOL ONE ..
If the bill says due by a certain date then anything after that date should apply to the next month not penalize you for paying early . not to mention making you look like you are a credit risk by making late payments.

Yup, I am just another victim of this pernicious credit card company. I have carried the card for 10 years, NEVER made a late payment, NEVER went over the limit, ALWAYS paid well before the due date and ALWAYS paid two times the minimum amount. Yet, I, too, have had my interest rate substantially increased for business reasons. I would cancel the card but those who know about these things tell me not to, just to pay it off or transfer the balance to another card which I fully intend to do. I will keep it open with a zero balance to preserve, if possible, my credit score.

We had a Capital One card for years and always considered it one of our better credit accounts. Out of the blue, our interest rate on one of our other cards was increased due to debt to income ratio. That's where the companies run your credit check and decide you have too much debt so they raise your rates, somehow believing that if you aren't making enough to cover your payments now, somehow a higher payment will be better!

I received a pre-approved offer for a credit card from Capital One. It said that if I open a Capital One credit card and use it in the first month, they would pay the first $50 I charged to it. Well, after buying a guitar off ebay, and making a payment 3 times the minimum amount due, I saw a transaction for $50. It said Credit Card Usage Bonus. Well, it wasn't a credit, it was a charge. I guess they meant that they would give me a bonus charge, meaning they would just charge me $50 for nothing at all. And, it said No Annual Fee, well, they dont need to charge an annual fee if they are going to just charge at will to the credit card.
So I called their costumer service number and got a lady in India. She acted like she had no idea how this could happen. And I said This isn't a mistake, nobody makes this kind of mistake, because its in a program, and it would have been fixed a long time ago.

My FICO score is +750 though, I have excellent credit. I even paid off my truck loan early which was taken out with People First who was bought out by Capital One before I paid off my loan. I made approximately 1 years worth of payments to Capital One for the truck, then paid off the balance 2 years early.
I just received a notice that my 9.99% for Life Capital One Card interest rate is being jacked up to 14.99%. When I called to ask why, I was told it was a business decision.
I promptly called the opt out of terms number on the notice. About one week has passed and I called them to make sure they got my opt out information on my card. Guess what! No record of that on my account. I was put on a conference call with the CSR and she dialed the opt out number while staying on the line with me. The opt out number said it had already received the information. The Live CSR had no record of it on the account.
If you're opting out of their new terms make sure you follow up with them until a LIVE person tells you it is on record.

From the Capital One Complaints on your site, I see we are not alone. Capital One recently sent us the notice too, that it was raising our APR due to rising interest rates. This raised a red flag. We've had a Platinum account with them at a FIXED rate of 9.5% for many years, never been late, etc.
The second flag went up today, when we received brand new cards in the mail from Capital One. A letter accompanying the new cards explains, As a result of a data compromise at a merchant where you have used your Capital One credit card, we believe your account may be at risk for unauthorized use and so are sending you a new card. The letter encourages us to activate our new cards today. This seemed very strange, since our account number has not been changed, and I suspect that activation of these new cards will serve to accomplish something other than fraud protection that is known only to Capital One.
What's going on and how can we find out? Are they allowed to change an APR that was supposed to be fixed? And they didn't even disclose to us what the new rate would actually be. Also, by activating the new cards, are they changing everything else about our account and its terms, so that we're entering into some new arrangement of theirs without knowing anything about it?

Although I recently paid off this card and would like to keep it open, I have now chosen to close/cancel this account with them.
With a credit score of 740, and being able to purchase a home with no money down, interest only, this interest increase is a slap in the face to those who manage their money very well....more like Excellently if that were a word. And to think, I was just thinking about canceling one of my 3 credit cards and now the decision has been made for me. Which it has until Capital One started making up their own rules. When I called, they said that it was a decision within the company. This was a poor excuse. I spoke to a guy that could hardly speak English, and he sounded like he had memorized his speech. None of this made any sense.
O.K., if this was not upsetting enough. I went online to make my August 28th payment, and found that a late charge had been put on, my account of $39.00. I went balistic!! I again called customer unservice, and I demanded to know why this late payment was put on my accout. She said the payment I made on 7/5 was late for June. O.K. June's payment was made on 6/8. In mine and my husband's 30 or more years of having credit, we have never been late, instead always early on paying our bills. This is more than upsetting.
I am going to have a late payment showing on my account, which was in fact an early payment. This will show up on my credit. An account in good standing and they can do this!? Capital One does not want your business, they want only to pillage and plunder. In what realm do they justify an increase to 15.9% interest? From 4.9% introductory to 5.9% to 15.9%! A business decision based on what? Clearly not wanting my business, only my earned money.
Capital One has done nothing for me to earn 15.9% interest on my balance.
I prefer to do business with intelligent companies and will close my account as soon as the 'rewards' are posted to my balance. I've been given until September 11th (significant?) to do the right thing and not accept their terms.
On September 16th, I lose any unused rewards. Can they do that to an earned benefit? Do they really own those points and having them on my statements was really a fake-out?
Capital One, and any company associated with Capital One, has lost my business for life. And I just got an offer from their on-line bank. As if I would choose to. I'll go to e-trade first. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Is this not modern bait and switch? Is it not predatory? Hook, line, and sinker. Complain to your representatives about getting these unfair practices stopped.
Close your account and choose to partner with a credit business.
Cut up your cards and use them no more. They are not worth the plastic they're made from. When those new offers for lower interest rates come in from Capital One, send them back with blank sheets so they are burdened with the postage. Maybe the 15.9% is needed to pay for 'no-hassle' marketing - what a joke!
The 5.9% offers and the 9.9% on the web site are too good for customers. Those deals are offered as bait for the next round of suckers.

Now I am getting bills saying I owe them for Credit Inform, which I did not sign up for and protection services, which I did. They say my account has to have a 0 balance for 2 months to close it even though this is not in their TOS.

Several months later, I was getting phone calls constantly from an 800 number on my cell phone, finally fed up with the constant calls I answered and it was Capital One trying to get a late payment. Instead of canceling the card they continued to accept charges to it from some web site subscription or other I had made, I am guessing.
I told them I had closed the account before and wanted it closed and for nothing else to be charged to an account. I asked how does an account that is closed accept charges? Getting nowhere, I again paid it in full and requested that the account be closed and no other charges be accepted to it. They said it would be done and I asked for a confirmation number or something to verify I had closed it, should they call again. They said they did not give out confirmation numbers.
I asked them to at least annotate in the call log that I had paid it in full and closed it out. They said they would. This was in November of 2006, I know, because I put it in the notes section of my electronic check book, 20NOV2006 in the amount of $21.45.
Fast forward to April 2007 and I start getting a a barrage of calls from an 800 number, which I answer, but there is nobody on the line. I finally answer and wait a while and someone comes on, I assume it is the delay to India, where most of their calls are answered. They say they would like me to make a payment. I told them I didn't think I was late on my payment as I always am worried about late payments, because I travel quite often, and I am afraid I will miss one. While he is on the line I checked my check book and saw that I had just made a payment. He said a payment had not been made in several months.
I asked him to double check, then he told me the number and I remebered the last 4, because that is how I distinguish between the accounts in my check book. Once he told me the number it came flooding back, that I had closed the account twice already. I then told him I wanted to talk to his supervisor because I wanted to talk with someone who had some sort of ability to be able to close the account permanently. In the transfer we were cut off. So I tried to call them at the phone number on the back of my other Capital One card only to dial into thier menu driven nightmare, which I was unable to penetrate with only the last 4 of the account in question.
I then tried to dial the 800 phone number using the account number for which I still had an open account, figuring I could wait it out to talk to a live person. I was unable to get past the menu to a real live person because there were no issues with it.

In December of 06 I applied for and was issued a Capital One Platinum card with a total credit line of 3,000. Since December, I have made every payment well in advance, sometimes 2-3 payments a billing cylce to ensure that a balance, never, or rarely carried over into the next billing cycle.
I never had a problem with Capitol One, but I did notice that although I'd make my payment online, well before 3:0pm on some business days, this payment would not be posted for 2-4 days later; much longer than the guaranteed Pay before 3:00 pm and your payment is posted that day to your account. I noticed that this could potentially cause problems for people that paid their bill online close to the date payments were due.
Here is THE BIG PROBLEM: In April of 06, I received notice that my credit line would be increased from 3,000 to 3500. About a week later, I went on line to pay a portion of my bill, and noticed that in the Recent Activities tab, my credit line was now only $1,167.00 and my available credit was 49.00. In disbelief, I checked My Statement and found that my credit line still read $3,500.
COnfused about these two conflicting amounts, I called Capital One. It took about 2 hours to finally track down a phone number that would actually allow me to speak to a human. Upon explaining my situation, being left on hold, and transfered around the company, I was told that this could be a system glitch, and a manager would contact me within 48 hours. Being that this was a Friday, and I was scheduled to leave for vacation in a week, I asked if someone could prioritize this request; I was told a manager would call me back Saturday. The weekend came and went without a phone call.
Monday morning, I called Capital One to get this 'system glitch' off of my account. I was told that millions of cards were issued during the month of Decemeber with incorrect credit limits-this was costing them billions of dollars and they had to correct the problem. I was told a letter was sent to me on APril 27th, and when I responded that that date was over a week ago, I was told that I could not claim I did not receive notice unless at least 10 days have passed. I was basically told that I could not speak to anyone else, a manager was the best they could do, and that was that. The 'manager' made it seem like Capital One was doing me a favor by not charging me over limit fees-that's a load if I ever heard one.
I was scheduled to vacation in the Carribean for a week, and have since canceled my plans. I was depending on my credit card for the hotel bill. I am beyond angered, and feel quite helpless that I will never be able to do anything about this.

I signed up for a card after I got a call solicited by Capitol One offering 4.9% for life of the card. In March/April the balance was accumulated at a rate increase of 9.9% which I was unaware of. I called the service number and got a myriad of press this automated button one after another. I finally hit the close the account button and got a real person.

My wife recently discovered a rate increase with our monthly statement raising us from 7.9% to 19.9%....if we miss a payment it could be raised to prime rate + 19.9...so we're looking at the possibility of 28.15%, despite having a pretty good history of paying on time and being a customer for over five years. When I called to negotiate this down, the senior level account rep told me she had no alternative offers. When told several times this rate was unacceptable, she could only repeatedly say, I can understand why you feel that way. Nearly 20%...to over 28%? Honestly...how can these scumbags work for Cap One and live with themselves? Predatory lending at it's finest. Makes their TV ads a joke...What's in your wallet? We have to get them out of ours ASAP.

I filed a dispute against a vendor because they a) processed an amount on my card that I did not authorize or approve b) did not provide the goods and services that was contracted. I provide the contract and explained everything in writing to Capital One. To top it off, in his rebutal the vendor admits that he did not provide the goods/services that was contracted and provides excuses for not providing them. They ADMIT to not providing the goods but capital one does not honor the dispute and says they cannot do anything that I have to pay the amount. Further and more infuriating, their letters claim that my dispute was in reference to a hotel stay and it's not. They claimed that I stayed the entire time -- this dispute is NOT about a stay.
Further, they claim that the vendor is not obligated to accept a refund request -- this is not a refund request, this is a dispute because I did not received the goods I thought I was going to pay. Because the letters sent by Capital One and countless conversations with Capital one reps whereby they have LIED about information, I believe that Capital One has no intention of protecting it's card holders. They do not investigate disputes and send out standard letters to cover themselves as the deny the disputes filed. Neither the vendor or Capital One are willing to credit me for goods that I did not recieve and/or funds charged to my account that I did not approve.
Capital One has reported me to the credit burreaus, it has affected my credit rating, I've spent hours on the phone with Capital One (lost days) - where they have hung up the phone, transfereed me and I cannot get any assistance.

An online transaction made my account go over limit by twenty-three cents. I immediately went to my Capital One account online and transferred a payment of $20.00 to the account. Not only did I get a $35.00 over limit fee, but my APR was raised from nine to NINETEEN percent! I called to complain and get the amount adjusted and they were of absolutely no help whatsoever.

I've have two cards with Capitol One. A VISA and MasterCard, both cards have payment protection. In July '05 to October '06 I was out of work and submitted all required paperwork to activate my Payment Protection. I even made a couple of extra payments to be certain that I didn't fall behind. However, I have spent enumerable hours on the phone with Capitol One Customer Care explaining to them that my account should have never been charged over the limit fees, or late fees because I have Payment Protection. (Which started two months late).

In December of 2006 I made a payment of $325.00 to Capital One. Later in the month I received information that my account was past due and that I needed to pay over $500.00 to keep the account in good standing. I made a payment but was not able to hunt down what had happened until 1/2/07.
At this time I received a monthly statement for a business account that had been closed previously. On it was shown a $350.00 credit and a zero balance. I called Capital One and it took many calls and a couple of hours for them to determine that for some reason they had posted the money I had sent to this other account. I asked them to close that account and they said they would take the extra payment and put it toward my other account.

When I called to get a credit limit increase I was turned down, but was given another card. Soon after that they said my payments started being late, although I sent them at the same time. When I started to call in payments they would block the phone line so I couldn’t make a payment, yet I would call and enter my other account that was not due and the call would go through. They have ruined my credit!

I do not have an account, or ever applied for one, with Capital One, but they ran a report on my credit score 31 times in the past 2 years! Each time a credit check is made, my credit score went down 2 points! I really don't appreciate this.

I have paid my balance off and then charged $57.75. I went online the next day to find out that they charged me $40.00 in interest. I called and one of their reps told me that she will take care of it, the system is automated and it made a mistake, etc. 15 days passed and the balance was still there. I called back only this time to be talked back to and hung up on two times. I wrote a letter to them two days ago and still nothing.

My son, who was still in high school, received at least 4-6 credit card offers a week (all pre-approved). Capital One issued (2) separate credit cards to him without him even having a job. When I realized what was going on, I tried making the payments for him, until I made a payment a week before it was due and they claimed it was received the day after it was due and so they charged both a late fee and an over the limit fee. Since I had paid using bank money orders, I requested copies and found that they had marked the front of the money order with his account number and the date received which was, in fact, the due date.

I opened a Capital One credit card account prior to a trip to Mexico since they don't charge a currency transaction fee. We have had credit cards for over 40 years with no upper limits for our gold Amex card to $30,000 for others. Capital One issued a limit of only $2,000. After only several hundred dollars worth of charges in Mexico, Capital One denied any additional charges. I tried to access my account on line with all the correct passwords etc. to no avail. I paid the account $1,500.00 to cover any unknown problem.
Checking with my bank, the check was processed by Capital One, however, it made no difference in our ability to use the card. Upon our return, our three weeks worth of mail contained no statement from Capital One. After speaking to several people in their customer service center, I discovered that our account had been placed in the fraud department.

I opened a Capital One MasterCard credit card account in June 2002 with a fixed 7.9% interest rate that will "never go up as long as account remains in good standing". I confirmed this with a customer service rep at the time.
My account has remained in good standing. I have never been late with a payment or gone over the credit limit. So I was very surprised to find a notice in last month's bill that my interest rate would be increasing to 12.9%. When I called Capital One about it, the customer service rep admitted that my account has the notation '7.9% fixed rate for life' but that it was in the 'fine print' that the rate could go up.

I signed up for payment protection and credit reporting through capitol one. They did not inform me that it was with another company. When I canceled the card they did not tell me I had to contact these companies to cancel the two accounts. They did not bill me till the bill got to about 125 dollars, they then called for an overdue payment. They let these charges build up when they knew I had no use for them since I no longer had the credit card. They refused to cancel the charges.

I am an eight year credit card customer of Capital One, and had a fixed interest rate of 7.9% during that time. I just received a letter that Capital One is raising my rate to 12.9%. My account has been in good standing, never a late payment, almost always paid in full. I have charged over $100,000 over the past eight years. The only reason I was given for the change is that it was a corporate decision. Capital One does offer cards with a fixed rate of 9.9% for new customers only. They are not willing to help existing customers with maintaining their existing rates. They would rather lose a long-standing excellent customer rather than work with them to maintain their business. In my opinion, this is a very bad business practice, and will drive existing customers away.

According to Capital One my payment was one day late so I was charged a $35 late fee. I have been a Capital One customer for several years and always pay more than the minimum payment so I was not happy with the fee but maybe it was my fault.
At the top of the bill it said this can happen to anyone. In the middle of the page I was informed that I would now be charged their Default APR, if I did not decline their terms and cancel my credit card. My card was cancelled on 3-10-07.
The Lord does move in mysterious ways. Capital One is helping me to get out of debt faster!!!
