We had credit card for 4 years with 4.99% interest. Cap One recently raised the interest rate to 19.99%, which prompted us to pay off balance and close account. A supervisor added pending charges and interest to the payoff.
Capital One received this payment 4 days before its due date, and still added interest. Thus, I received a new bill for $94.66 just for interest on the interest! By the time I am calling today, the balance has grown to $113 and multiplying each day.

I recently noticed 8 charges to my credit card that I did not authorized. When I contacted Capital one I transferred into the fraud department, who then transferred me to the disputes department. I spoke with a woman who informed me that the charges were occurring from Capital One business partners and that the charges would gradually get worse. The charges would increase in domination and some would be as high as 129.99 a month!
I told her cancel my card immediately; at this time she informed me that this would not help. She said that these are set up as reoccurring charges that would reopen my closed account. She told me to contact you, Consumer Affairs, and Rip off Report.com.
I inquired, if Capital One knows this is happening why are they not stopping it and how does their so-called business partners have access to my credit card number and her response was they just do. She told me that I needed to dispute the charges with the actual companies before they can do anything, meanwhile my card would be open and subject to continuing charges. She gave me the addresses of the companies. I contacted one of the companies whose phone was answered in a foreign language, another companies wanted to look up my order by phone number, when I refused to give my number the operator said I can't help you then and hung up.
I contacted Capital One again and this time got through to the fraud department. They have supposedly closed my account and reissued a new card. Meanwhile I am receiving random packages in the mail from their affiliates. I would think this is a major privacy issue that this company is having. All you have to do is be a business affiliate and you can have anyones credit card number and mailing address and charge what ever you want until the customer notice the charges? What other information do they have about me now?

I was offered a credit card from Cap One immediately after my 18th birthday. I accepted and made sure I made payments on time.
Payments for 4 months were listed as being returned although my bank has no record of Cap One even attempting to post them to my account. I triple checked that the info was correct and still was getting returned check fees and late pay charges.
I finally attempted to cancel the card after paying in full and was lectured and harassed about how canceling the card would ruin my credit. Now I am getting bills saying I owe them for Credit Inform, which I did not sign up for and protection services, which I did. They say my account has to have a 0 balance for 2 months to close it even though this is not in their TOS.

I pay bills online. I tried to pay on the Capital One account several days before it was due. The service kept sending me to links that said "not available".
After the date, I was charged a late fee of $29. I have tried several times to call them but cannot get to a person to talk to. Only automated responses on that line.
As a result of late fee, they want to charge higher interest.

My bank was bought by another, account #'s changed. Old acct # on file at Capital One. Charged with late fees for 2 months with no notice at all. Then when I tried to use the telephone payment system, the CSR screwed that up and another payment did not go to the account. After making changes online, I was not allowed to make a payment for 24 hours.

With an almost perfect credit rating, and paying off our Cap 1, in full, on time for several years, we missed one payment because for the first time, we disputed a charge (and won the dispute). We were told we would be issued another bill but instead were hit with finance charges and late fees.
We paid the bill and charges in full down to a zero balance. Yesterday in the mail, we get at $24 finance charge on the zero balance.

I paid my account off in full almost 10 yrs ago and I am now getting a bill from a collection agency for 3 times the amount of my final bill.
This has happened a few times before, about 6 or 7 yrs ago and I sent them a copy of my cancelled check then.
This is on my credit report as an unpaid debt and goes against my credit.

Several months later, I was getting phone calls constantly from an 800 number on my cell phone, finally fed up with the constant calls I answered and it was Capital One trying to get a late payment. Instead of canceling the card they continued to accept charges to it from some web site subscription or other I had made, I am guessing.
I told them I had closed the account before and wanted it closed and for nothing else to be charged to an account. I asked how does an account that is closed accept charges? Getting nowhere, I again paid it in full and requested that the account be closed and no other charges be accepted to it. They said it would be done and I asked for a confirmation number or something to verify I had closed it, should they call again. They said they did not give out confirmation numbers.
I asked them to at least annotate in the call log that I had paid it in full and closed it out. They said they would. This was in November of 2006, I know, because I put it in the notes section of my electronic check book, 20NOV2006 in the amount of $21.45.
Fast forward to April 2007 and I start getting a a barrage of calls from an 800 number, which I answer, but there is nobody on the line. I finally answer and wait a while and someone comes on, I assume it is the delay to India, where most of their calls are answered. They say they would like me to make a payment. I told them I didn't think I was late on my payment as I always am worried about late payments, because I travel quite often, and I am afraid I will miss one. While he is on the line I checked my check book and saw that I had just made a payment. He said a payment had not been made in several months.
I asked him to double check, then he told me the number and I remebered the last 4, because that is how I distinguish between the accounts in my check book. Once he told me the number it came flooding back, that I had closed the account twice already. I then told him I wanted to talk to his supervisor because I wanted to talk with someone who had some sort of ability to be able to close the account permanently. In the transfer we were cut off. So I tried to call them at the phone number on the back of my other Capital One card only to dial into thier menu driven nightmare, which I was unable to penetrate with only the last 4 of the account in question.
I then tried to dial the 800 phone number using the account number for which I still had an open account, figuring I could wait it out to talk to a live person. I was unable to get past the menu to a real live person because there were no issues with it.

On 5/20 I called Capital One to discuss the basis for the interest rate increase on my wifes credit card. The increase was from 9.2 to 13.9. The reason given is present conditions in the market and we had an opportunity to opt out in February 2007. I let them know that a normal thinking person would not have chosen to pay more if the they had been given the notification. When I checked my account I found that they had increased my account from 9.2 to 18.9.

I open an account in Jan 1997, went through downsizing and financial hardship. I called Capitol One explained my circumstances. Their representive told me to pay $688.31, and that he would waive the remaining: $900. I scrapped the money up (a major sacrifice) and paid them in June of 1998.
To my surprise I received a notice, dated 5/9/2007, saying that I owe $3000. This matter was resolved, and it never appeared on my credit report the last nine years.
Now, Capitol One (through their representative - Portfolio Recover Associates) are threatening to place this on my credit report.

I opened a Capital One credit card which was issued with an initial credit limit of $3000. I was sent a letter stating that making my first three payments on time would make me eligible for a $500 credit limit increase. I made my payments, and my April statement indicated that I had the $500 increase, bringing my limit to $3500. Less than a week later I attempted to use my card to purchase a bicycle, and the charge was denied. I was told that my credit limit had been erroneously set at $3000 initially, and that it should have been closer to $850. They had still approved me for the increase, but that left my credit limit at only $1377.

My credit card has a $200.00 limit which is all I need. However, due to fees and late payment recording, I was unable to pay and thus was charged over-limit fees. I have, many times paid $300 or more to try to control their charges, but to no avail. I have requested, in writing, many times for them to send me my annual statements, so I could see what I paid, what I was charged and the difference. I wrote that once I received these, I would call and settle the account. They have never responded to these requests and continue to call me five, six even eight times a day.

I happened to notice on my most recent Capital One statement that they increased my interest rate 80%. Since I rarely use the card, pay it in full when I do, never run a balance, and have a credit score at 800, I rang them up to find out why they increased the rate and to get them to lower it. They said no, it's their new policy. However, they did acknowledge my excellent credit rating and history. Still it made no difference for the rate.

I had an unexpected car repair of $450 that I charged to my account. I tried to add an additional $178 but my card was declined. Come to find out that Capital One had dropped my credit limit to $300, which left me $150 over my credit limit.

I signed up for a "No Hassle Reward Card" from Capital One. I was sent a new card with a limit of $3000 and a list of terms and conditions. Initially everything looked good so I called to activate the card.
However, I had to speak with a certain account specialist who I tried to reach for ten straight business day to no avail. She never returned a phone call nor answered her number. After two frustrating weeks I finally demanded to speak to a supervisor and the request was only granted after I asked them to cancel the card and asked to which governing body I should report my experience.
Several months went by, I used the card several times and I paid my bill every month. However, in April I was suprised when the sales associate ran my card for $1000 and it was denied. I found that my credit limit had been reduced from $3000 to just over $900.

I had my No Hassle card with a fixed 4.9APR since 2002. I never missed a payment and rarely was near my limit. Recently, I transferred money to this card based on the low, fixed APR. After noticing my APR was now 9.90, I wasted an email and 25 minutes on their phone trees/holds/disconnects. Finally, selection the option to cancel the card - would you believe I got to a live person instantly?
Long story long - they gave me the script about how they sent a letter (which I do not recall) to opt out and in the end there wasn't a damn thing they could do.
I gave them the option to keep my business - but I'm paying it off, my wife is closing her account, and I no longer entertain the thought of using their online savings account - which btw, is 5% - the same amount they seem to have increased every credit card holder. I now have a better understanding of their business model - offer great savings returns on the backs of their current credit holders - NEVER AGAIN.>

In December of 06 I applied for and was issued a Capital One Platinum card with a total credit line of 3,000. Since December, I have made every payment well in advance, sometimes 2-3 payments a billing cylce to ensure that a balance, never, or rarely carried over into the next billing cycle.
I never had a problem with Capitol One, but I did notice that although I'd make my payment online, well before 3:0pm on some business days, this payment would not be posted for 2-4 days later; much longer than the guaranteed Pay before 3:00 pm and your payment is posted that day to your account. I noticed that this could potentially cause problems for people that paid their bill online close to the date payments were due.
Here is THE BIG PROBLEM: In April of 06, I received notice that my credit line would be increased from 3,000 to 3500. About a week later, I went on line to pay a portion of my bill, and noticed that in the Recent Activities tab, my credit line was now only $1,167.00 and my available credit was 49.00. In disbelief, I checked My Statement and found that my credit line still read $3,500.
COnfused about these two conflicting amounts, I called Capital One. It took about 2 hours to finally track down a phone number that would actually allow me to speak to a human. Upon explaining my situation, being left on hold, and transfered around the company, I was told that this could be a system glitch, and a manager would contact me within 48 hours. Being that this was a Friday, and I was scheduled to leave for vacation in a week, I asked if someone could prioritize this request; I was told a manager would call me back Saturday. The weekend came and went without a phone call.
Monday morning, I called Capital One to get this 'system glitch' off of my account. I was told that millions of cards were issued during the month of Decemeber with incorrect credit limits-this was costing them billions of dollars and they had to correct the problem. I was told a letter was sent to me on APril 27th, and when I responded that that date was over a week ago, I was told that I could not claim I did not receive notice unless at least 10 days have passed. I was basically told that I could not speak to anyone else, a manager was the best they could do, and that was that. The 'manager' made it seem like Capital One was doing me a favor by not charging me over limit fees-that's a load if I ever heard one.
I was scheduled to vacation in the Carribean for a week, and have since canceled my plans. I was depending on my credit card for the hotel bill. I am beyond angered, and feel quite helpless that I will never be able to do anything about this.

I logged into my account early last week and saw that they had lowered my credit to $907.00. When I called they told me the original amount they gave me was wrong. On Feb of 2006 I joined a travel club for 3995.00. Capital one did call to make sure the transaction was authorized. On May 2006 and June 2006 the travel club put the charges on again. The travel club is being pursued by the Indiana Attorney Generals office.
My complaint against capital one is that on the May and June charges they did not call to make sure this was an authorized charge and when I connected them they had me talk to their legal department. The legal department ask for a letter explaining what happened. I sent the letter in the mail 2 times and faxed it about 6 times. First they told me that they didn't get it. Then they told me I didn't give enough information about the complaint. Then I was told I sent too much information. Now I have been told that my time has run out for their help.
The attorney general office has said we have 2 years to get this fixed. Capital One should have never accepted the May and June charges. He got a Credit card from Capital One in June of 2005. I didn't know this until I got my credit report Oct. 2006. My name had been placed on the card as a debtor. I called them about it and they placed the card in Fraud Dept. Dec. 30th.,2006 He received a letter saying that he was the responsible party and they would make an adjustment on the next billing. Feb. 16th, 2007 he filed Bankruptcy as he couldn't pay bills. He is on Social Security.
Capital One sent a new statement with a new account # listing us both on it. Before long they sent another statement with the new account # ; took his name off the bill and had mine on it. I have fought it with everything I can think of. I am not responsible for this debt. What they did is Fraud on their part.

I've had my Capital One credit card for about 5 years and had made a few sporadic payments just a few days past the due date. They jacked my APR to 29.2% a few months ago. I have been having some financial difficulties and was late again. They began calling me only 1 day after the due date. I made an online pmt of $128, which made my account current. After I made my payment, Lisa called. I told her I'd just paid $128 online, but she said I had to pay $327 to bring my account current. I told her no, the $128 was the Feb. payment and I just paid it so the next payment of $199 was due 3/19. She would not accept that and insisted that I owed them $327 right now. I told her that I'd need to set up payment arrangements then.
I agreed to allow $133 to be debited from my checking account on 3/19, 4/2, and 4/19. The next day, I came home to 2 messages from Capital One. Later that evening, Angela called demanding payment. I told her I spoke to Lisa yesterday and I paid $128 and set up payment arrangements. She said the $128 payment broke those arrangements. I told her to cancel the arrangement, and that I'd pay the $199 online by the due date of 3/19/07.

I specificially told the representative that there would be two doctors involved. Further, they claim that the vendor is not obligated to accept a refund request -- this is not a refund request, this is a dispute because I did not received the goods I thought I was going to pay. Because the letters sent by Capital One and countless conversations with Capital one reps whereby they have LIED about information, I believe that Capital One has no intention of protecting it's card holders. In January of 2005, I noticed a charge on my Capital One statement from a credit protection offer that I had declined when I first applied for the credit card. I tried several times to contact the company that provided the service, but I was unsuccessful in canceling. No problem, I thought, I'll just tell C1 to deny the charges.
Unfortunately, their response was that I needed to deal with the company myself and get documents in writing from the credit protection company that they were refusing to cancel the service. Why on earth would a company, that refuses to cancel an account, send documentation stating such? Well, they clearly wouldn't!
C1 told me that they could NOT just deny charges because I requested it. I'd never heard of such an absurd policy, and immediately requested the credit card account be closed. I also paid the entire balance of the card at that time so that I owed C1 absolutely nothing. They told me the account was successfully closed, and I went on my merry way.
Fast forward four months and one (yes, one) statement later, and it turns out that the account was never cancelled. Seems C1 has a policy of REOPENING an account if anyone tries to charge anything within 30 days of account closure. The charges that reopened the account? My annual Capital One fee!
I paid the fee and the additional late fees that had accumulated as a result of not having received a statement until May. At that time, I requested that ALL charges be denied, and that the card be closed immediately without possibility of reopening. I confirmed repeatedly that the account was closed forever.
Fast forward another four months and one statement (notice a pattern?), and suddenly I have a balance of $1200!! The card itself only had a limit of $1000, so a lot of that was alleged overage fees. To date, I still have no reasonable explanation for the balance. I've walked through the charges that were made to the card between May and September (all of which should have been denied because the account was closed), and the total was in the vicinity of $200. The charges came from the original credit protection company and Capital One's late/overage fees. This is where it gets even more confusing (not to mention shady and illegal).
When I started questioning the high balance (I had a zero balance in May) the customer service rep. suddenly changed the story and claimed that I had a balance of $750 when I requested the account closure in May. Naturally I asked where the balance came from, and how the accumulation of charges totaling $200 had been added to $750 to give an end result of $1200. The dumbfounding response was that she did not have records available prior to six months ago, and that because of the high balance, interest over the summer had accumulated to make up the other mysterious $250.
I once again requested that the account be closed and that I be immediately sent documentation on every charge to the account. She refused my request and told me to call the customer service number (which I had called to talk to someone in the first place).
It is now January, and the account is STILL OPEN. I have not made a single payment to it since May (8 months ago), and they keep adding on overage and late fees and destroying my credit. There's no way I can possibly consider paying them while the account is still open because they'll just keep it open and start all over again after pocketing my ever growing due payment. They refuse to close the account, they refuse to deny charges, they don't even seem to want to write off the account and throw it all to debt collection... I have no idea what to do.

I had applied for a possible credit card through Capital One and received an offer to open an account. Upon receipt of a confirmed offer, I decided against opening any account and never activated it. However, Capital One is attempting to bill me for the $39 annual fee. After several attempts to clear the issue via telephone, I was able to speak to a representative (Erma) on Sept 18, '06 and she confirmed to me the account was inactive and would be closed. They are still attempting to collect a $39 annual fee for this account that was never activated or in existence to begin with.
I worked hard to clear my credit debt. The last situation I need is a credit card company attempting to collect a bill from me for a never-activated, non-existent account that could adversely affect my credit report.

Well that was in July and guess who had to pay the $1230. and never got the merchandise. This process to fight with Capital one took many, many phone calls and caused an enormous amount of stress in my life for several months. May they rot in hell!!

Capital One charged me a $600 fee for a check I wrote against my Line of Credit Account. The first time I called them I was on the phone for 90 min. before they even found my acct. After filing a complaint with the Attorney General in Maine, they contacted me and reduced the fee to $450. I still felt that the offer was fraudulant because it was compared to a home equity line of credit acct. The difference being that with a home equity acct you're not chared a 3% fee every time you write a check.
This was not a credit card so the only access to the acct was to write a check. After about 6 mos I gave up fighting with them, then I received a letter saying that "Our system can no longer process this type of account" so they are forgiving my debt.
Needless to say I was quite happy and surprised. So my question is why would they do that? At one point they told me that only about 1000 people took advantage of this offer so I'm wondering if they had more complaints similar to mine and they are just avoiding more trouble?

When I checked back the next day or so those same payments have been altered and I have been charged NSF fees. Well after I received more money because the dentist, Eastern Dental in Clifton, NJ said he was changing the plan of the implants for me I called Capitol One and asked what was the balance on my account. They told me it was around $16,050.00 and I was going to pay that but the girl said Oh, you want to pay it off? I said, Yes. She told me in that case the payoff was $18,600.00. I said how can I amass so much interest in ten days? I had just paid them $1,000.00 on July 07, 2006. She said I will have to pay because I have to pay for the year that was supposed to be free.

I've had a Capital One credit card for 3 months and am desperately trying to close same. While on vacation in May, I made the big mistake of taking a cash advance on the credit card for $300.00 - I'm still paying interest on this even though I pay the full balance each month. I have contacted the company several times and have had no success in getting the issue resolved. I have one payment left that they again have pro-rated up to the next billing cycle (with a finance charge attached) to pay this card off. My understanding from their own paperwork is that if you pay your new balance each month, there are no finance charges attached. God forbid, but it isn't true with Capital One - they are rude, they do not work with you - do not want you to close the account, etc., etc.
I have written a letter and got no results. I have also filed a consumer complaint via the internet with the AZ Attorney General's Office but have not heard from them yet. They clearly are committing bank fraud and I would like to know how to get money back I've paid in unlawful finance charges and how to close the account. I have already paid two pro-rated amounts in an attempt to get a zero balance (large amounts of money) as a credit card for me is a convenience, not a necessity.

Unfortunately, I am not a great bookeeper and could not find the reciept so, once again we have paid the same credit card off. I wonder how long it will take until they start calling again. Can we all band together and hire a lawyer? This is causing me a lot of stress and I'm afraid what I'll do if they contact me again.
Obviously when we are trying to pay a card off, it's because we can't afford to keep it. So, this has taken a lot of extra money out of our pocket that we could have used for other things. Not to mention the stress that this has caused. Whoever owns Capitol One are evil people. No good person would do these kind of things to anyone if someone was trying to do the right thing and pay them off. Now, thanks to them, our credit scores are not good. On May 1, 2006 I was looking through my credit report to make sure all was in order. I was planning on refinancing a home and getting into a more fuel efficient car. Unfortunately all was not as it should have been on my credit report. I have been a loyal Capital One card member for over 7 years. During this time I have NEVER ONCE made a late payment. I have never made a late payment on any of my credit cards. This however was not reflected in my credit bureau report.
According to my credit report, with all three bureau, I had made 4 late payments on two different Capital One credit cards. One card reflected 30 & 60 days late in November and December 2005. The other reflected 30 & 60 days late in July and August 2005. I contacted Capital One immediately. The representative on the phone confirmed that this information was in fact incorrect and she would in fact have it removed immediately by sending the correct information to Equifax, Transunion and Experian.
It is now August 3rd and I just got off the phone with a Capital One agent who informed me that one of the accounts has been properly deleted but the other account was being 'researched' and would not be updated for a minimum of 120 days IF they found in my favor. To put it in the most blunt way - Capital One has screwed me. With four RECENT late payments reflected on my credit report my score has fallen over 87 points and I am not 'eligible' to refinance my home or get a decent interest rate on a car all due to THEIR error. The respond by telling me THEY need more TIME to figure out why this happened. All the while my credit suffers.

Let me first say, we are deep deep in credit card debt which is no ones fault but ours! we received a solitation from Capitol One promoting balance transfers and fixed interest rates. On July 5th I called to see what it was all about. I told them I wanted to pay off a $30,000.00 balance I had on a CitiBank Master Card. She told me to give her some personal information and she could do a credit check while we were talking. She read me the long agreement terms and when she was through she said I was approvedfor the #30,000. and did I want to do it. I said yes but first I wanted to know what my monthly payment would be.
She checked and said the monthly payment was $900.00 plus monthly interest. I told her I didn't want to do it and to cancel my request, she said she couldn't do it the loan had already gone through as a wire transfer and couldn't be stopped. I argued with her that it was ridiculous that you could do a credit check and loan for $30,000.00 in less than 5 minutes and not be able to stop it but she said she could not do it and gave me a number to call,1-800-933-5182.
I called this number and talked to Beth, she says they cannot stop an electronic transfer when it is already in process. she said call Saturday the 8th. and they would try to put a stop on the application. I called back on Thursday the 6th and talkedto Rob, he told me the same thing, the transfer could not be stopped and to call back on Saturday, it took that long before his dept would see it. He would put notes on my account that I wanted to cancel the application. I called on Saturday 8th and talked to Yalesea, she said they could not stop the transfer that it went through on 7/5. She said just have Citibank send the money back to them! Told her I wanted to talk to a supervisor, she gave me to Colene. I told Colene what everyone was telling me and that Rob had put notes on my account that I wanted the transfer cancelled. She looked and said yes the notes were on my account. I ask her why then did they go ahead with the transfer, she said they don't read the notes, they just go ahead and do the transfer!!! She was the last person I talked to. I have now received a bill for my first payment for $900.00 which is $250.00 more than what I was paying. I was trying to reduce my monthly payment! Amd would you believe after approving my $30,000.oo request in 5 minutes I now also have a Credit line for cash of $15,000.00.!!!
I went to Capitol One in hopes of reducing my monthly payments. Instead I now am paying $250.00 more a month. I don't understand how they can start a transaction that fast and not be able to stop it. I think I was taken advantage of and I want this complaint on file so that maybe they will not do it to someone else.

Capitol One had all thse hidden charges that ended up on my bill. After I sent them the letter I noticed that they reported me to the Credit Bureau for being late. Problem is they reported different late dates to three different bureaus. When I complained about that I noticed that they made changes to two of the bureaus and one bureau still has a different late reporting period.
To top it off, they keep sending me credit card offers and I recieve them against my wishes. It is my belief that they report me late so that they can tarnish my credit, therefore it improves their changes that I deal with them for credit. After cancelling the card, we(my father) then a few months later got a bill from them that there owed another $3700 in charges that were accrued after the cancellation. It seems that someone got a hold of the number after the cancellation and ordered a replacement card in my deceased fathers account and Capital One sent the card to another address so the thief could run up all the charges.
We then filed with them a fraud report, and they have not taken the charges off the account. Now they say that there seems to be no fraud. BUT HOW DID A DECEASED MAN MAKE THE CHARGES... My balance had gotten up to about $180.00. I sent them a check for the whole $180 about the same time I moved to a new apartment. I was going to call the company and give them my new address, but I kept on putting it off, since I knew I had paid them off and I had not charged anything else new on the card, I wasn't that worried about receiving my statements. About 2 months after moving, I had almost completly settled in to my new address and thought to call the company with my new information. When I called, I learned that I owed almost $300! This came as a total shock as I knew I had paid them off and made no new charges.
They not only showed no record of recieving my payment, but also has added on tons of late fees, which put me over my $200 balance, so they also added tons of overlimit fees. The fees were growing by the month. I called the company to work something out, but they were unwilling to work with me. A few days later I called my bank to see if the check I had sent Capitol One had cleared - It hadn't. I was really scared that it was lost in the mail or something. I decided that I was going to cancel the original check that I had sent them and send a new check to pay the original $180 and all the fees. I was disappointed that the check had been lost in the mail.
I called Capitol One to tell them that I was going to send a new check. When I called, my balance had been reduced to about $120. What happened? They finally found my check that I had sent several months earlier - the one that I was going to stop payment on because I thought it was lost in the mail! I told them that it was their mistake that the check had not been credited to my account and that I wasn't going to pay the $120 in fees. The phone rep told me that she could put my account on hold while I worked the problem out with management. Transactions that I did NOT create, nor did I authorize.
I IMMEDIATELY reported this. Initially, the service reps were kind and helpful. Well, needless to say... that did not last for long. I could spend hours telling you my story, and the daily nightmare that I have lived and endured (still pending I might add) through this unbelievable experience.
The long and short of it all: In America, we are "innocent until proven guilty." Capitol One Credit Card Company does not subscribe to this theory. Capitol One has branded me "guilty" and has forced me to prove my innocence in this matter. Through my own hours of labor, investigation, stress, and financial detriment, I have not only discovered who made these fraudulent charges on my account... I have handed the suspect to them.
Still, Capitol One is holding me responsible for these fraudulent charges on my account. They have attached this to my credit report. I received a letter from another creditor of mine today stating that "the credit terms on my account have been reviewed and will be changing on June 1, 2004." Through further in inquiry it was explained to me that my interest rate on my card will soon be raised by SIX POINTS due to "Serious Delinquincy, and Credit 'Charge Offs'. Go Figure...
I am at my absolute wits end. I see no end to this HORRIBLE injustice. I will not rest until I am vindicated of this, however, the credit history that I have worked so hard for to achieve...has been DESTROYED.

I have been battling Capital One for quite some time now. I discovered that someone used my information to obtain one of their credit cards, the funny thing is that according to Capital One they actually made payments on the card and then defaulted. I've been disputing this account through the credit bureaus and through Capital One. Each time I disput through the credit bureaus I get a response of "this account has been verified, no change".
I have called and written numerous letters to Capital One requesting a fraud investigation, but they refuse to assist me. I've also called and written requesting copies of the statements, but most importantly a copy of the original application. But they literally refuse to give me any information and when I ask to speak to their supervisor I'm told that they are too busy to speak to me. I have been verbally insulted and they hand up on me. I have never received a response to my written inquiries.
As a result I have been unable to find a mortgage lender that would make a loan until I pay off the debt.
Adolfo and the others should file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, which regulates national banks.

I had an account with Capitol One Bank with a $250 limit. I used the card but did not get a statement for 2 months. When I finally got the statements 3 months later there were 3 $35.00 late charge fees even as I continued to call and find out how come I have all these service charges no one could give a good reason. I fought back and forth with the company. It was removed only to show up again 5 months later.
Also I noticed that there was a charge of $15.00 twice. When I called and asked what were they for I was told it was for credit protection agaist identity theft and life isurance. I told them please cancel because I had such a small limit and I also had life insurance on my job. I got a transfer balacnce from another credit card which was to pay off my balance. The check was cashed but never credited to my account. I also found out they were still billing me for the insurance fee and the life insurance fee.
This credit card is a terrible card company. The Goverment should step in and closed this company down or investigate their practices. I'm in civil court with them now because a $250 limit which I have paid off have turned in to $3,072.00 judgement against me. This is totally wrong I have paid this debt back 10 times over. There is something really wrong here.

I went over my limit in 2003, just in time for my membership dues to be paid. Then they hit me with finance fees. Now, my debt to them is $1012+ and I've tried to close my account and even cut up my card.

I had an electronic funds transfer done through my bank to pay off my credit card balance. This was on 1/23/2004 and as of 1/30/2004 they have not credited my account. My bank faxed them all electronic information including tracer numbers showing where Capitol One had received my payment and they still have not applied the payment of 216.00. The funds have already been taken from my bank account and every time I contact them or fax them they do not take care of this problem. They still have not applied the payment. I spoke to Customer Service on 1/29/04 and was told funds would be credited by 1/30/04 and this still has not happened.

In February of 2003 I signed up with a Credit Counseling Service - they told me to send them all my bills and they would negotiate a payment plan with each of my creditors for a large fee. I paid the fee and sent my paperwork. At that time my Capital One bill was $947.96 and I had a credit limit of $1000.00. While the credit counseling service was negotitating a payment plan with Capital One it came time for my payment to them - which was never made. Because the payment wasn't made they added $35.00 for a late fee, $17.29 for finance charges which put me at $1000.25 so they tacked on $29.00 for overlimit fee.
Well the next month came and they were still "negotiating" so again Capital One tacked on $35 for late fee, $22.00 for finance charges and $29.00 for overlimit fees. By the third month the finally agreed on a monthly payment of $33.00 of course not in time for them to add another set of late fees, finance charges and overlimit fees. So I thought everything was taken care of but not until July, when I received my Capital One statement did I realize that the negotiated payment is being sent after my due date so Capital One is still adding the $35.00 late fee, finance charges (which were not reduced) and $29.00 overlimit fee.
By now my $947.00 bill had made its way up to $1457.00. I dropped the credit service and ventured out on my own to deal with my credit debt. Everyone I spoke to at my other credit card companies were more than willing to negotiate payment plans and lower interest rates. In August I sent a payment of $100.00 for Capital One and at the same time received a letter from them stating they were willing to help me with a payment plan. The next day I received my statement showing my $100.00 payment before the due date and also showing $29.00 overlimit fees, $25.26 finance charges and $35.00 late fee. I called immediately and spoke to Lisa in collections. Lisa told me because I did not send them $104.00 I received the late fee (of course nowhere on my statement does it say to send $104.00) and they do not do payment plans to "just make a payment before the due date".
So every month I have been sending $50.00 before the 15th. They stopped the late fee but still add finance charges and overlimit fees. Everyday including Sunday, they call me house starting at 8:00am and finish at 8:59pm. They call anywhere from 7 to 18 times a day - we have caller id. I have tried calling them back and they tell me that until I get my balance below the $1000 they will continue to call my house. They were very rude about the whole situation.

I got a loan from my Credit Union to pay the two credit cards off. Then they turn around and send me a pre-approved Platinum Visa card. Nowhere in their information or applications do they disclose that they charge the annual fee to the card right away. I sent them a letter telling them in no uncertain terms that they are to remove that charge and close the account. They ignored that letter and are now trying to extort money from me.
I haven't got the money to pay this extortion. I am really ticked off that Capitol One pulls this kind of garbage, and thinks they can get away with it. I have since filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission concerning this loan shark outfit.

Capitol One is applying similar tactics as Direct Merchant's Bank. I have faithfully paid my bill on my K-Mart MasterCard each month. Recently I started receiving "Late Fees" even though I had sent my payment 7 or more days prior to the due date. When I contacted Capitol One their reply was, "You need to send your payments sooner. If we do not receive it on the due date you will incur the late fee."
My response was what keeps you from holding my payment until the next day then charging a late fee? Their response (as I figured it would be) "Oh, we would never do that". At any rate one of the late fees placed my account over the limit and I was charged an additional "Over the Limit Fee." My next bill stated the required minimum payment due, which I paid and now I find that there were additional fees attached after the bill was generated, which Capitol one claims they do not have to disclose to the comsumer.
Since I have made the minimum payment I am now receiving up to three calls a day claiming I am late and that I need to do a "Check by Phone" in order to bring my account current even though I have been told that this payment is not do until January 14th, 2004. According to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act of 1997, 805 USC 1692C(5) Capitol one is in violation of harassment, abuse and annoying the consumer.

But they keep raking up charges on the bill every month even admitting to my mom that they put $700.00 worth of finance charges on the bill. Mom says how can I get it paid off when they keep adding finance charges on it every month. Is there anything my mom can do to get them to stop calling and adding more to the bill each month? I have been trying to cancel my Visa and Mastercard accounts with Capital One and stop accruing charges since October of 2001. They are continuing to assess charges to J. C. Penney Insurance, membership fees, and late charges made after they acknowledged that the accounts were closed. I stated very clearly in my closure letter that I had stopped authorization for any additional charges on my account and called J. C. Penney and the credit care protection company ensuring any direct charge accounts to them were closed by 11/05/01.
I do not believe that it is coincidental that the companies that Capital One is making the charges for are affiliates of Capital One. Capital One has continued to accrue charges and issue statements to me for unauthorized charges since I received their own letter acknowledging the accounts were closed. They are also attempting to assess late fees because I refused to pay for unauthorized charges.

On 02APR2001 I checked my account balance online, confirmed it with a call to customer service and made an electronic transfer of funds for the complete current balance ($1149.15). Since this took place in the evening, I knew that thae actual transaction would not take place until 03APR2001, the due date on my last statement. I believed this would be the end of it.

Then I paid the 77.00 in protest of them holding my check because they threatened to ruin my credit. Then I proceeded to get a bill out of nowhere for $102.00. Originally the $40.99 was paid with 10 days advance they held the check which I have copies of front and back where they held it almost 3 weeks and added $1.66 which they billed $102.00 we are still trying to find out information to get our money back.
