I am at wit's end dealing with Capital One over a credit card issue. Because I get paid once a month, I like to pay all my bills at the begining of the month. I made my payment in December but it arrived before their statement cut off date by one day and got posted to the November statement. This caused them to show I did not make a payment in December. Because of Christmas, I did not have extra money to make a double payment. I called them early in December and pointed out that I did make the payment and it arrived early and I could not make additional payments that month. I told them I did not want to show a late payment on my credit. They told me they could not do anything at the time and told me to call back in January and maybe they could make the adjustment then. I have followed back up with them. The result was I have been charged a $39 dollar late fee and they raised my interest rate from 4.9% to 28% and charged me $111 dollars in additional interest. All of this because the payment arrived early. Despite dozens of calls, this remains unresolved and I am at a loss as to what to do.

On Noverber 8,2007 the payment to payoff this credit card was received. There was an overpayment of $142.76. On 11-24-07 a request for refund was submitted. The statement received today, Janurary 9, 2008, shows there is still a credit balance due me of $142.76. When I called the customer service number I had to go through three people transfers to talk to the Account Manager who advised me that the computer rejected the request and would have a check sent to my address within 7 days plus mail time. Aside from this final straw there had been several items which were not satisfactory in dealing with this company thus the closing of the account.
The overpayment due to me and has been delayed for beyond a reasonable length of time. Thier failure to followup on a rejected item has caused stress and required time to contact them to get thier error corrected.

I have a Mastercard and Visa with Capital One and never had any problems. To better my credit I tried to close my account in October. I was told that it was closed and that all I needed to do was pay off the balance. I paid but they continued to take insurance payments out. CO then told me I had to have a zero balance for 30 days.
I paid again and called the insurance company directly to insure they stop transactions. There had been a zero balance for 45 days.
The associate just told me I had to have a zero balance for 60 days!

I received a $39.00 late fee that posted on my Dec-Jan statement. When I called to dispute the charge, I was told that because they posted my Nov.-Dec. payment EARLY they were charging me a late fee. This does not make any sense and they refused to credit my account.

Capital One deception on member fee was never disclosed anywhere even in the fine print of the initial credit card offer and believe me I scrutinized this thoroughly as I do on every offer prior to applying for the card. I was incredulous to receive the credit card and discover that the credit limit was abhorrently low - $500, hardly worth the effort. I called customer service to request a cancel on the card but stupidly let myself get talked into keeping it. Upon return from a holiday vacation I found a Capital One bill for the member fee of $39! I had not even used the card yet and was assessed a nearly 8% fee! I attempted to call customer service to dispute the charge and review the customer bill of rights but was unable to reach a live person nor was I able to access any of the legal information from their website so am forced to take the time to write a letter! Who has the time to wait for a response via snail mail and the apparent run around is incredibly annoying. I wouldn't be surprised if they charged a monthly membership fee for the 2 months they require the card to hold a $0 balance before they will allow it to be closed! It sounds suspiciously like an elaborate scam to nickel and dime unsuspecting consumers.

Having been a loyal credit card customer of Capital One for several years, I received an offer to enjoy a low, FIXED 0% APR for 18 months! There was a 3% transaction fee. I borrowed $22,000 on Oct 30, 2007, to pay down a higher percent debt, meaning I assumed a new debt of $22,660 for 18 months. Beginning in Nov 2007 I've been paying $500 each month, well above their minimum requirement. In the meantime, my monthly charges on the credit card (averaging $1,581 per month over the last 11 months) are paid automatically by my bank, in full, and on time. It was agreed when I took out the loan that the two accounts would be treated seperately. Today's statement included a so-called finance charge of $38.46 which I protested (to no avail). I want this charge removed, now and forever, as long as monthly purchases are paid in full and on time. They are giving me some double-talk about charges being applied to average daily balance and this is not what was agreed or what can be deduced from the original agreement.
The Credit Card company is grossly misleading. They already make their money on the 3% upfront fee for the loan plus whatever percentage they take off the top when merchants accept the card. Bottom line: I'm losing money if/when I must end this nonsense and re-finance that $22,600.

Advertised as a No Hassle Rewards Card. It is nothing BUT a hassle! We pay 1 or 2x/month in large amounts to pay off the card in order to free available credit to charge again for our business. We try to use this card since it offers an annual 1/4% additional bonus reward based on your cummulative 1% rewards earned. Capital One continuously puts a hold on the acct payment, delaying freeing up available credit. For example, we paid $20k in one month's time, which is over the card's singular limit of $12,500, yet we paid what we had charged (i.e. states online it posted on 1/3/08, yet did not free available credit as of 1/7/08) because we used the card, paid the card, used the card & paid it again. We have a high credit score (in the 800's) and make payments in full religously. The individual we dealt with, Op ID EFP281 was additionally extremely rude to both my husband and myself.
In summary, if we use the card's available credit in excess of the card's singular limit of $12,500 in a 30 day period, even though we paid it off online each time in full, our subsequent payments within that 30 day period are automatically put on HOLD status requiring us to call in to get a manual release & CAP1 has to call the bank. We cannot freely use the card for business charges as our business requires, if we have to first get ahold of the Fraud Dept. and wait for them to call the bank EACH TIME we pay in order to get the payment truly credited and free up available credit. It punishes those customers who use the card and pay on time and in full more than once per month. It POSTS the payment online, but does not clear the payment. They do not tell you that you are discouraged from using the card's credit limit more than 1x/month, even if you pay it in full online each time you near the limit. This of course keeps a limitation on the rewards you can receive if you cannot freely use, pay and use the card repeatedly within a 30 day statement cycle. Obviously, they do not want you to use the card a lot and get that extra 1/4% annual bonus at the end of the year. This is their method of controlling the amount of rewards issued annually. We then have to use other credit cards that do not offer the extra 1/4% net annual bonus.

My mother is 86 years old and lives with me and is in great distress because: She paid Capitol One in full several months back, and they started billing her for a credit report and adding this to her CLOSED OUT ACCOUNT and then they added late charges to that. She did not request the service, she has called them three times now and has written to them also. Now she gets a collection letter and my mother is not use to that. Like I said, she is under great distress because of Capitol One and their mistake that they tell her will be corrected but never is. Can you help us? My next step is to see if an attorney can help. The collection letter states she owes $104.75, she has purchased nothing and does not owe this.

I have two accounts with CapitalOne, one for personal use, the other for business (I am a freelance programmer). I overpaid the personal account by $110.45, which shows as a negative balance on my personal card. I called to see if they would allow me to transfer the credit balance from the personal card to the other card, and their semi-friendly people in India told me it cannot be done, and that it was against policy. I asked what is the policy, and the 3rd supervisor I spoke to said I don't have it in front of me. Can you go get the policy? She replied It's not what we've been trained for. I hung up the phone, as I didn't want to keep getting tossed back and forth and no one can come up with the paperwork. It's ridiculously stupid. You would think that since I have two accounts and I've already paid them MY money that with the credit balance I could use it on the secondary account.

I recently opened an all in one Capitol One package which includes free checking, free business acct, personal acct, and a small business credit card. When I received my card and called to have it activated, they started with telling me that they need to refer me to security because there had been an attempt on the account. I asked them how there could be an attempt on an account that has not yet been activated. After an hour on my cell and speaking with 4 different referrals, and much frustration, I was not able to activate my card. I have received nothing but problems. I have had a personal credit card with them for 10 years and have not had issues in the past. They could very easily look at my records and verify the information.
They went as far as asking me a slew of questions, making me feel like a criminal. I could not believe the personal questions they asked me. One of their questions was where I got my SSN at. Usually supplying your SSN to anyone is sufficient. I had no idea since your parents usually apply for a social sec card shortly after you are born. They continue with their questions referring me to associate and associate. I am so frustrated with this company that I am going to pull all personal and business acct, cards, etc....if this isn't resolved very soon. It was extremely embarrassing to have to stand in Office Depot on my cell phone for over an hour trying to clear the matter so that I could check out. I ended up paying by another method so that I could leave. I do not appreciate them treating me this way. I have two banking accounts and one personal card, and one business card with them (one I can get activated). There should be more than enough information for them to go on without me feeling like I was under investigation. It was awful!!

I don't recommend getting a Capital One credit card. Capital One Banks has structured their credit card business to extract excessive finance charges and late fees from their customers. This strategy should be exposed, to protect customers. Here is my experience: 1. Capital One restricted me to an unbelievably low credit limit of $2,000 even though my credit history has always been flawless. I realize that this is their prerogative, but no other credit company I have ever dealt with discounts prior credit history. This strategy makes it easy for customers to exceed the credit limit. 2. Capital Ones website does not accept early payments. At Capital One, early payments can only be made over the phone, for which a $10 fee is assessed. When I made an early payment over the phone to avoid exceeding my credit limit, their computer system flagged my early payment as suspicious activity? even though my payment was immediately and successfully drafted from my bank.
Even worse: my credit account was not credited with this payment until one week later after I called and complained to four people in Customer Service. Holding my money because I paid early is a strategy that should be against the law. 3. Capital Ones notified me that electronic funds transfer from my checking account would begin on December 4th . On my statement that was due on December 4th was printed the following information: Capital Ones automatic payment service is in effect for your account. As requested, the New Balance shown on this statement will be debited directly from your designated bank account on your Payment Due Date.
You do not need to send a separate payment.? My bank account was NOT automatically debited on December 4th, and finance charges of $11.88 as well as a late payment fee of $39 were imposed. I was $70 away from reaching my credit limit. I had to call a customer service representative to have the problem corrected. 4. After just the ONE late payment above (which was THEIR fault), Capital Ones website threatened me (in bold, red text) that the national credit bureaus would be notified of my delinquent activity if it continued.

When I tried to contact Capital One with questions about my credit card, I could not get a live person. No matter what phone number I called, I got the same automated menu. After an hour of trying over and over I gave up in total disgust.
They are charging a higher interest rate for cash than for purchases. I have never used the card to obtain cash. At 3.9% higher interest charged on something I have never used is wrong.

My ex-wife got a credit card in both our names while we were still together. I was unaware of it. In 2005 they contacted me saying they wanted almost $7,000. It was hurting my credit, so I agreed to pay 1/2 the amount over the phone. The only reason I agreed to doing it this way is because they promised me they would hold my ex-wife accountable for the rest. It is now almost 3 years later and I'm being sued for $4,650.19. They should really honor their promises as I already paid more then my share.

I have a major complaint about Capital One and their late fees. I had a month that I was a few days late at getting the payment in. So much for that grace period.
They added an over-limit fee, okay, so I paid it. But they continued to add the late payment fee every month although I sent in the amount requested and then some to bring the balance back down. But again they continued to add a monthly fee keeping my balance from going down.
I wrote them and filed a complaint with the company. Their response was after careful consideration of my complaint the fees will continue. You never win with this company.

In March I noticed a charge on my Capital One account that I didn't recognize and so began months long (and still ongoing) ride in a world that Capital One refers to as Customer Service. I had about a 4 year history with Cap1 of never being late with a payment and paying off my balance several time. I have (or had) excellent credit...the product of 20 years of hard work, sacrifice and conscientious decision making. I'm careful with by credit cards and always use cash when I can. Nonetheless, there are people who are bound and determined to obtain your information and it happened to me. I immediately called Cap1 and was tossed back and forth between Fraud and Disputes for 4 months. Cap1 closed the compromised account and re-opened a new account (I did not want to do this but I understood that the disputed charge has to go somewhere while the investigation was going on).
After dutifully completing and faxing every form they sent to me (each time Fraud told me I then needed to talk to Disputes and Disputes told me I then needed to talk with Fraud), I discovered, after getting a call from collections, that they had doubled the disputed charge on the new card. I called again. Now mind you, the customer service number does not give an option to speak with a live person. But after 4 months, and completely by accident, I figured out how many cycles of the recorded message you have to listen to before pressing zero gets you to a live person. You're still at least two tranfers away from anyone who has any capability to help. I called again and was told by no fewer that 3 people that they could see exactly what happened but they'd have to transfer me to someone else to help me. I finally got a contact to the main compliance office in Virginia and the person I spoke to there had the charges removed in a few days, this was August 8, 2007.
I requested the new account be closed and was told the account had to be at a zero balance for 2 cycles before the account could be closed. Fine, what's two more months. On November 8, 2007 I received a notice that Cap1 had received a debit)(s) and/or Credit(s) to my closed account. So the *closed* account was re-opened to post a $0.98 credit. I repeat...98 cents...as in not quite a dollar. Again I call to be told that Cap1 has to issue me a check for this not quite a dollar credit and then the account has to remain closed (whatever that means) again for 2 cycles. I was told that no one could tell me when the cycle ends (this, I believed as no one seems to know anything) and it would be sometime in January. I did ask her to clarify that it would be January of 2008.

I have been the victim of identity theft in which a Capital One credit card was taken out in my name. I never received a credit card, nor have I received an itemized bill from this company indicating charges made on the account. I became aware of this account after reviewing my credit report and receiving phone calls from this company's collections department, 3 months after the account was opened.
I have made numerous calls to this company's fraud department, signed a notarized affidavit denying responsibility for the account, filed a police report, contacted the credit bureaus, the FTC, the Illinois State's Attorney's office, the Illinois ID theft hotline, and the FBI, without resolution of this crime. This company's fraud department has completed their investigation claiming this account was activated from my home phone, however they will not provide a copy of the application for this account, charges incurred, nor proof of activation supposedly from my home phone. I have reason to believe this account was applied for online without my knowledge. Information I have been able to ascertain includes: Capital One viewed my credit report 4/25/07, the account was opened 5/25/07, the account was activated 6/3/07, and I first contacted Capital One with my fraud claim 8/20/07.
The Police Department has all but dropped the case because Capital One will not cooperate with the assigned officer nor return his calls.

They reported me late on all three credit bureaus back in September due to a payment that got lost in the mail supposedly. I wasn't even notified of the payment not being received for the month of September, but it wasn't until October that I finally figured out what was going on. At that point my credit card was over the limit, and there were late fees and over the limit fees out of bounds for me. I didn't even complain much about the late fees or the over the limit fees, but I was more concerned with my credit report. They assured me they would not be reporting it to the credit bureau.
Well they did, and I've since tried several times to rectify this situation. The last Supervisor I spoke with told me he could see what I was saying and agreed that it was wrong. He told me he would personally see that this was removed from my credit report. Well, I just received a letter from them stating that the investigation was put on hold due to incomplete information. I've tried to call and ask them what's going on as no one seems to know why the letter was sent out or what to do about it. I want this false information removed from my credit report. I am a business owner--own a retail store in Galloway, NJ. Since my business is new, any credit I receive is on a personal credit score basis. Furthermore, this is illegal what they are doing to me, and I want this to be corrected. Please help me get this resolved as soon as possible. PLEASE HELP!

I called to complain and was told that I agreed to balance transfer fees.
I pleaded with them to listen to the recording of my call with the rep, but was told that the recording could not be retrieved. I was totally at their mercy. It took me about 5 phone calls and several hours on hold, and I was finally assured that the fees would be waived. But just beware when you do phone transactions with these people. I have absolutely no affiliation with Capital One in any way, shape or form. I keep receiving phone calls from a number that when you call back brings you to their telebank system. If you mess up inputting your account number enough times you get customer support. Well I spoke to them and notified them that we have no account with Capital One and that we are on the do not call list. They still call, and it's been over a week. I've talked to just about every supervisor probably twice at this point, and have been on their cease and desist list for about a week now (since day one). I've been getting about 2-3 calls a day that range from 9 in the morning to 10:30 at night.
Well in short, They are breaking the law that the do not call registry upholds--and continue to do so. They've called me on Christmas morning for Christ's sake. If I had an account with them, I would cancel it... but I can only tell others to never deal with them. If they hassle potential customers in this way I wonder how they treat their current customers?
So far it's just been a big hassle, waiting on the line for hours to try and solve something nicely when I don't even have an affiliation with the company. I have filed the complaints with the registry website and am wasting more and more time trying to just work it out.

I opened my Capitol One account in early 2006 and was served very well. I noticed, however, that the service they provided me was slowly eroding. In Nov. 2007 I received my statement and immediately paid the entire amount, which has been my practice since I opened the account. I noticed that I had not yet received my Nov. 07 statement, but allowing for the holidays just thought that it was delayed in the mail. On 12-25-07 I called Cap One to find out its status and found that my account was being charged a late fee because I missed a payment. In speaking with the most rude people that I have ever dealt with, they told me that it is not Cap One's responsibility if the statement got lost in the mail--rather it was mine. I tried to reason with them to drop the late fee, but they didn't even want to discuss the problem. They told me that I should have called them sooner and that I should keep better records as to what I charged and sent in a check for the amount charged in Nov without a statement.
This entire transaction lasted about 15 minutes, and Cap One refused further discussion regarding the matter. Basically, they told me it is not their fault or responsibility. I hope by posting this on line other people will be aware of what they are getting themselves into with Cap One. I am in the process of transferring my account away from Cap One and suggest that all of the Cap One account holders do the same. I opened an account on 12/14/2007 at Capital One. When the account was opened, there was no red flag of any sort informing the bank nor me that there were monies owed from a previous account. The bank representative and I went through all the steps to assure everything was correct before signing and submitting the final paperwork to close the deal. I deposited a check for $316.70 and $200.00 in cash to my checking account and $50.00 to my savings. When I left I had no reason to be suspicious about my actions. Well, on 12/17/07, I went into the bank center to withdraw $50.00, and I was told it was not available due to recovery deducting $200.00 from my checking and $32.00 from my savings due to an account I had with Hibernia, which was bought by Capital One.
I was not notified by neither one of the institutions about a balance being owed. I was livid because I had no clue that this could happen. I spoke with the branch manager, and he said I do not have to be notified. If it is owed, I have no choice but to pay it. I agree, yet, I should have been notified either by mail or by the branch that this was going to happen. We could have came up with some type of arrangement to settle the debt. The bank said the debt was from 2005. I received no type of notice about the debt. It is scary how much power corporate America is given. They spend some much time and money on marketing, then when they have you they get what is owed.
They took funds away from me without notifying me. My checks may bounce, and I was told I will still be held responsible for the charges that occur. I am willing to work something out.

Capital One offered a 0% for 18 months. I borrowed $4972.00 to pay off an high interest rate loan, when their 0% promotion expires and jumps to 25%. The transaction fee is 2% which came out to $99.44. I talked to a Rep named Earle. She explained to me that if I paid off my entire credit card purchases every month there would be no interest charge. The payment would pay off the purchases with the interest first, and the remaining balance of the payment would go to the 0% balance. I made a payment of $5000.00 so I could pay off the credit card purchases I made in October. From what I see from my statement, I had $4222.01 in credit card purchases. I thought that $4222.01 of the $5000.00 would pay off the credit card purchases and the remaining would go to the 0% loan.
Instead of $777.99 going into the 0% loan, Capital One put in $1067.23 into the 0% loan--leaving an outstanding balance on the credit card purchases of October which they can charge me interest. I talked to a Rep named Joan today and demanded that they remove the finance charge from my account and that it was credit card fraud. She refused to remove the charges, so I told her I am going to file a complaint to a class action Attorney and to the FTC.
I was quite upset. All these years I made my payments on time and paid the entire balance. They ripped me off $173.33 so far. Now I wondered how many other people they ripped off?

I did a 3-way conference with WU and CO and the W U rep. was trying to give them the information, and the CO rep said it had to be faxed. The WU lady said she would fax it. I called CO a day later, and they asked me what time was it faxed and from what area code. The fax had all of my info on it: my name, card number, authorization code, control numbers. They are still saying they never received it. I talked to 5 or 6 different reps per day from Capital One, and nobody had any clue what was going on the majority of the time.
The consequences are that I have not received my money yet.

I have NEVER been late on my Capital One credit card. In fact, I always pay my payment early. On November 1st, I paid my December 1st payment. On December 14th, I paid my January payment. The same week, I receive a statement from Capital One stating that I missed a payment and a statement that my interest rate will go up with future past due payments. Additionally, I received a late payment fee. I called Capital One since I've never missed a payment and have never been late. I was told the billing cycle for December did not start until November 6, and since I paid on the 1st (5 days too soon), it does not count as my December payment. I explained my intentions of paying my December payment early so as to allow for Christmas expenses. I argued that I'm obviously not aware of their billing cycle and requested they count my payment for the December 1st payment. I spoke to the rep, the rep's supervisor, and then her supervisor. I only received sorry, can't, won't, and unfortunately.
Even though I already paid the January payment, it counted as a December payment, and I'll have to come up with another $500 due December 31st. In the end, the supervisor (Ann, #PMG662) refused to let me speak to anyone else and advised me she was going to disconnect the call. MERRY CHRISTMAS to me and my family!
Bottom line, I can't pay it. I budget carefully for my family. The consequence of my paying early will result in a bad mark on my credit, late fees, penalties, and probably an interest rate increase.

A month later I recived a bill from them for $18.42 stating that their was a balnce of $3.42 left unpaid and so they added a late payment charge. When I asked what for, they said they had reason to believe there was fraudulent activity on the account. I said, what activity are you referring to? Perhaps it is a transaction that I initiated. They told me that they could not tell me, they just needed to see the forms they requested. They said, we can't see you and don't know who you are. I said "I just told you all the confidential information on the account"-- so of course they know who I am.
This conversation took place, by the way, after a full hour of being transferred (calls dropped). I was put on hold for 15 minutes, call dropped, then another 15 minutes, call dropped, etc. This is so irritating. I have decided to close the card and open a Citi Card for my business. My monthly payment is due by the 5th of each month. I paid my normal November payment and my husband received extra pay from his enlistment bonus, so we went ahead and paid December's payment on the the 9th of November; and Capital One applied it to November's billing cycle because they print their statements on the 10th of each month--that is why they decided not to apply the funds for my December payment. I called them and asked them to fix it; I was told then that they could not fix my statement, but they would remove the late fee charged to me for non December payment recorded, and they remove the late payment report with the credit reporting companies. She said it would be fixed with in 24 hours, and it was never corrected as far as applying to the correct payment. I called and talked to another account manager on duty on 11-11-07, and this one claims to tell me that this cannot be fixed--I will just have to accept it and make another payment for December.
We just do not have or make enough money to make two payments for the month of December and think this is being so unfair to a family that makes minimum wages, not to mention the fact of the credit reporting issue while we are trying to refinance our home.

I asked several times to verify that I would be getting the 9.9% interest. In November they charged me interest for the first time, at a rate of 18.4%! The high interest amount put me over the limit by about $3, so they also charged me $29 for being overline. I called and got the $29 credited and was told to call back the next day to speak to a supervisor who would fix the interest rate problem. I did that today and the best I could get them to do was reduce it to 14.9%, beginning in the next day or two and not retroactive. They insisted that the high variable rate interest was the offer that I accepted. I would NEVER have accepted a card with that rate. I get junk offers all the time and, in recovery from a bankruptcy, I took the CapOne offer BECAUSE it was a reasonable rate. I don't know if I still have the original offer letter, and realize there isn't much that can be done if I can't find documentation of the rate I was supposed to have. My credit scores are in the 700s, the operating accounting is healthy, and my records are current. However, Capital One disapproved me and stated that I would receive a letter in the mail -- I didn't.
Capital One is by far the worst credit card company/and line of credit company you can deal with. In addition, I applied for a no-inquiry credit increase and was DENIED. I have been a premier card holder for over FOUR years, and I am declined; the reason: rarely do we increase credit lines over the phone. I will crusade against this company until they (1) receive a class law action suit (I think one is in process); (2) make a public apology to all the people discriminated against and/or harmed as a result of their business processes; and (3) contact me directly and offer an explanation as to why they treat long-standing card members the way I have been treated on both the personal and business levels.

I have tried with phone calls and it takes on average 20 to 30 minutes to get through with them, and when you get to talk to them sometimes the phone call cuts off. I went from paying 7.9% interest to 18.40% all because I paid one day late. I was able to prove that the payment was sent post marked 4 days before due date, but that did not matter to them so they raised the rate.
I have asked the company to lower the available credit from $5000.00 to $2500.00 twice, and they did, but raised it up again twice to $4000.00 available credit without my permission. When I asked to close my account it was long before the dues payment for annual fees was up, however they were very slick and ignored my request so they can tack on another $59.00 fee. Now we learned that we are incurring interest on our monthly purchases, even though we pay off the balance, because they are applying our payments *first* to the interest free balance, and in the meantime we get hit with a finance charge on the rest. So, to stop getting hit with monthly interest charge on our regular balances, we have to immediately pay off the interest free part, even though they already charged us 2% of that balance up front! It is an absolutely diabolical scheme.

I have been trying to pay my Capital One credit card since Friday, Nov. 16, 2007. When I went on line and tried to pay I got a message that my bank did not authorize ACH payments. I make several ACH payments per month including this account and have never had a problem. When I called customer service they said since they were upgrading the web site, they could take my payment on line or I could wait until the next day and make it on line. The next day, Saturday, I still had a problems and I had to call twice. They could not help unless I waited more hours. I opted to wait until today, Monday, Nov. 19 to make a payment on line.
I got the same message that my bank does not authorize ACH payments. I called the customer service line again and after 35 minutes on the phone, most of which was spent waiting to have someone answer, was told I would have to mail in my payment since my bank did not authorize ACH payments. That means my payment will be late, since my due date is 11/23. When I told the person that she said I could apply for a waiver of the late fee and the probable rise in interest.
The economic damage is a late fee as well as a the mark on my credit report for a late payment.

I have told them that their billing for me is wrong, but they continue to give me Hell. I want it to end now! They are the worst credit card company; I am sure to tell everyone!

I received my statement last month and was shocked that my APR had gone from 7.90% to 15.03%. I called and spoke to a customer service rep and he said he couldn't tell me anything about it. So, I asked to speak to his supervisor, which was a total waste of time. I asked that my account be closed, which the supervisor said she would. A week later I get a letter from Capital One stating that they can't close the account unless the balance is $0, but a request has been made to close the account.
Once the balance is $0, it will take one more billing cycle to close the account completely. I get my statement this month and the APR has gone up again! I called Capital One and they tell me that all the rates have gone up. I asked why I did not receive notification regarding this and the customer service rep told me that she does not work in that dept (which ever one that is) and I would have to contact them.

Capital One's policy when trying to close accounts makes it impossible to ever close. You must have a 0 balance for a period of time. This includes a credit even after your request to close the account; this is impossible when they charge a monthly fee for having the card. It never ends. I have been trying for 4 months to close my accounts without success. This needs to stop and is completely fraudulent, especially if you are trying to become credit responsible and get out of debt.
Becuse of Capital One's policy, I have to pay the monthly fees on cards that I have since destroyed.

In October, my parents called capitol one because a payment wasn't credited to the account. They did a courtesy credit and then the next day finally credited the original payment. Then they took the second payment away. No problem except I had an emergency tow bill that put my card over the limit. My parents paid the bill in full as soon as the statement was issued, but Capital one did not release the credit hold. We had to call and ask them why they were recognizing the payment but not opening a credit on the account.
They finally released the hold and I was allowed to use my card. The bill for November was 257.00 which was paid in full again, but when the payment was received by Capitol one, they again did not release the credit hold on my account.
I use the credit card for most of my purchases as it is an easier way to manage the money. I am now left without a way to use the card and they are reporting that I am at my limit each month when I am not. This is damaging my credit rating.

We were told that information had been sent tell us of this business decision (I'm guess they got hammered by bad mortgages and decided to get their money back on the backs of their credit card holders). At any rate, we do not believe we ever got such a letter. If we did, the information was well buried so we wouldn't notice it.
We will be paying off and closing our account immediately.

They had the nerve to send me a "special offer" stating: unlike some companies, we won't increase your aprs because you pay late only once, go over your credit limit, or your credit record changes with another lender. The usual Capitol One experience: Over limit fee where none should have happened, and the resultant triggering of all the Universal Default problems. I have worked for nearly 10 years to rebuild my credit (following bankruptcy in 1998). To that end, I literally became obsessive in my managing of accounts. I'm online MULTIPLE times a day checking and rechecking all my account information. In these 9+ years, I've never had a negative on my credit--not a single late payment, careful use of credit, every bill (including medical bills) paid timely and in full. In short, I watch what I'm doing and, as a result, have a perfect record. Capitol One, in one fell swoop, ruined it all. I literally haven't slept in the last three weeks, I am so FUMING FURIOUS at Capitol One. Worst part of all, I know I will never have anybody batting for me in this matter such as the Congress of this country, and will never be able to undo the damage(even though I've written over six letters thus far, including one to the AG of the state of Virginia). So I've decided my only recourse is to literally start up my own anti-Capitol One website, which is what I'm working on now. Capital One charged me a $29 late fee because my prepayment didn't fall into their billing cycle. Their system can't recognize prepayments for purchases made a whole month in advance. Their system did see, however, the small residual balance not paid of $130 ($80 residual balance & finance charge) and thus the late fee was added because a $10 minimum fee was not made. (Hello!! I paid $2500 a month earlier.)
I was told by the rep that I should not pay so early and that I should try and pay -in the future- right after the billing cycle ended so that the system could see the payments and not charge the late fees. Imagine that!! I asked her to write it off and she said they can't. I intentionally prepaid so I wouldn't be hit with a late charge and they got me anyway.
I would also like to add that Capital One has changed their late fee policy. It used to be a standard amount but now it goes up with the purchase you've made. In addition-I had them reverse out a finance charge assesed to my account in error. I had prepaid a week early on that's month's purchases and their system didn't recognize it either. The second flag went up today, when we received brand new cards in the mail from Capital One. A letter accompanying the new cards explains, As a result of a data compromise at a merchant where you have used your Capital One credit card, we believe your account may be at risk for unauthorized use and so are sending you a new card. The letter encourages us to activate our new cards today. This seemed very strange, since our account number has not been changed, and I suspect that activation of these new cards will serve to accomplish something other than fraud protection that is known only to Capital One.
What's going on and how can we find out? Are they allowed to change an APR that was supposed to be fixed? And they didn't even disclose to us what the new rate would actually be. Also, by activating the new cards, are they changing everything else about our account and its terms, so that we're entering into some new arrangement of theirs without knowing anything about it?

I have been a Loyal Capital One customer since 01/2001 and NEVER made one payment late - NOT ONE LATE FEE! With a measly $7500 credit limit now, originally $5k, a current 9.9% interest rate, I too received a notice (08/2007) that my rate was going up to 15.9 %. Although I recently paid off this card and would like to keep it open, I have now chosen to close/cancel this account with them.
With a credit score of 740, and being able to purchase a home with no money down, interest only, this interest increase is a slap in the face to those who manage their money very well....more like Excellently if that were a word. And to think, I was just thinking about canceling one of my 3 credit cards and now the decision has been made for me. I'll stick with my Chase credit card at 9.99% fixed, credit limit of $30k and BOA (bank of america) at 7.50% fixed, credit limit of $23k for all my credit card transaction or should I say, my emergency situations.
Yes, the rep that I talked to at C.O. said it was a business decision. I told her..hmmm, you guys must have been bought out by someone and/or alot of you guys are going to be losing your jobs because guess what...I'm canceling too.

Similar to other recent complaints, I have had a Capital One credit card for over 5 years that was supposed to be fixed at 9.9% FOR LIFE. Now they tell me they are changing it to 15.49% vairable. Did I die or something? I have never been late, always paid well above the minimum every month and considered them a reputable company.
What's in my wallet? Certianly not Capital One from now on. I just pulled my $15K balance and put it in B of A at 2.99% for the next few months. I had always resisted surfing my credit cards until this came up. I feel that Capital One has broken their original contract with me and this is tantamount to bait and switch.

On Tuesday 7/31/07, my husband received a notice that his interest rate was being chaged to 15.9% from the fixed rate of 9.9%, which was supposed to be the rate if his account was kept in good standing. Which it has until Capital One started making up their own rules. When I called, they said that it was a decision within the company. This was a poor excuse. I spoke to a guy that could hardly speak English, and he sounded like he had memorized his speech. None of this made any sense.
O.K., if this was not upsetting enough. I went online to make my August 28th payment, and found that a late charge had been put on, my account of $39.00. I went balistic!! I again called customer unservice, and I demanded to know why this late payment was put on my accout. She said the payment I made on 7/5 was late for June. O.K. June's payment was made on 6/8. My payments have been made early, and they have never started putting a late payment on the account, because it did not fall in their billing period!!
This is just another unethical banking standard that they have started. I asked to speak to a supervisor, but she would not let me speak to one. In mine and my husband's 30 or more years of having credit, we have never been late, instead always early on paying our bills. This is more than upsetting.
I am going to have a late payment showing on my account, which was in fact an early payment. This will show up on my credit. This whole week has been most upsetting with all the tactics that Capital One had put us through. We are being penalized for keeping our accounts is good standing is what this amounts to.

An account in good standing and they can do this!? Capital One does not want your business, they want only to pillage and plunder. In what realm do they justify an increase to 15.9% interest? From 4.9% introductory to 5.9% to 15.9%! A business decision based on what? Clearly not wanting my business, only my earned money.
Capital One has done nothing for me to earn 15.9% interest on my balance.
I prefer to do business with intelligent companies and will close my account as soon as the 'rewards' are posted to my balance. I've been given until September 11th (significant?) to do the right thing and not accept their terms.
On September 16th, I lose any unused rewards. Can they do that to an earned benefit? Do they really own those points and having them on my statements was really a fake-out?
Capital One, and any company associated with Capital One, has lost my business for life. And I just got an offer from their on-line bank. As if I would choose to. I'll go to e-trade first. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.
Is this not modern bait and switch? Is it not predatory? Hook, line, and sinker. Complain to your representatives about getting these unfair practices stopped.
Close your account and choose to partner with a credit business.
Cut up your cards and use them no more. They are not worth the plastic they're made from. When those new offers for lower interest rates come in from Capital One, send them back with blank sheets so they are burdened with the postage. Maybe the 15.9% is needed to pay for 'no-hassle' marketing - what a joke!
The 5.9% offers and the 9.9% on the web site are too good for customers. Those deals are offered as bait for the next round of suckers.
Forced to use points in a manner inconsistent with my wishes. The reward site is no longer accessible. Are they overextended and unable to manage?

I have paid well over my minimum every time (one or two which may have been a day or to late(I pay online)). No worries right? Just pay the late fee.
I have just received a pamphlet that states important notice change in terms. This state nothing about late payments or anything, which of course it should not because they don't matter, right? This pamphlet looks like it has been made to be sent out to thousands, if not more, people.
It states, in light of rising interest rates over the past few years and the rate currently applied to your account balance, the APRs on your account are about to increase.Your new rate for purchases balances will be as folows: A variable rate that equals the Prime rate plus 7.65%, currently 15.9% ANNUAL PERCENTAGE RATE. Our current rate was 5.90%. What a crock. Are there any honest credit card companies that don't have high rates?
I am currently looking for a new card. The pamphlet sates that you can choose to decline these changes and cancel you acount by calling their automated system a7 1-800-211-3315 by midnight EDT, September 11, 2007. Instead of canceling the card they continued to accept charges to it from some web site subscription or other I had made, I am guessing.
I told them I had closed the account before and wanted it closed and for nothing else to be charged to an account. I asked how does an account that is closed accept charges? Getting nowhere, I again paid it in full and requested that the account be closed and no other charges be accepted to it. They said it would be done and I asked for a confirmation number or something to verify I had closed it, should they call again. They said they did not give out confirmation numbers.
I asked them to at least annotate in the call log that I had paid it in full and closed it out. They said they would. This was in November of 2006, I know, because I put it in the notes section of my electronic check book, 20NOV2006 in the amount of $21.45.
Fast forward to April 2007 and I start getting a a barrage of calls from an 800 number, which I answer, but there is nobody on the line. While he is on the line I checked my check book and saw that I had just made a payment. He said a payment had not been made in several months.
I asked him to double check, then he told me the number and I remebered the last 4, because that is how I distinguish between the accounts in my check book. Once he told me the number it came flooding back, that I had closed the account twice already. I then told him I wanted to talk to his supervisor because I wanted to talk with someone who had some sort of ability to be able to close the account permanently. In the transfer we were cut off. So I tried to call them at the phone number on the back of my other Capital One card only to dial into thier menu driven nightmare, which I was unable to penetrate with only the last 4 of the account in question.
I then tried to dial the 800 phone number using the account number for which I still had an open account, figuring I could wait it out to talk to a live person. I was unable to get past the menu to a real live person because there were no issues with it.
