My daughter-in-law and myself were comparing notes about a tooth pain we both have had for about two weeks. After returning home and found myself brushing my teeth, it dawned on me that I had been using a new toothpaste the past two weeks. Colgate Optic White! I called my daughter-in-law and asked her if she had recently changed toothpastes. Yes, she has also been using the same product for a couple of weeks. We both compared our problem and this has got to be it. I was going to call the dentist tomorrow, but will be buying new toothpaste instead. After reading all of the reviews, I can't believe this product is still on the market! Someone needs to do something. The pain I have gone through for the past two weeks is ridiculous.

Colgate Optic Whitening - I changed my whitening toothpaste to see if I would get better results with a different brand. I started getting swollen taste buds, sore tongue and throat, and constant dry mouth. I even changed my water intake thinking this was the problem when I realized it all started right after I changed toothpaste. I will not be using this toothpaste anymore. I can't even taste things because I'm in so much pain.

I started using Optic White Mouthwash for about a week and noticed my tongue was more sensitive and sore. It looked like I had thrush and I did along with red sores on the roof of my mouth and back of my throat. I recently started taking medication for the thrush and still hoping it makes this go away. I have never had this before, and the only thing different was my purchase of this mouthwash. Of course, I have stopped using it.

I started to use the Optic White toothpaste and liked the product for a couple of weeks until I noticed that I was waking up with a sore throat every morning and that my lips were always dry, no matter how much ChapStick or lip gloss I used. After a couple of weeks, my teeth became extremely sensitive. After reading these reviews, I am glad to have small side effects.

I had purchased a tube of Optic White about a month and a half ago, wanting to whiten my teeth and proceeded to use it. Thereafter, began to have extreme dry mouth at nights waking with sore dry throat. I had had throat issues in the past six months with persistent sore throat, so I did not connect it with anything. I had gone in to my ENT a month ago and he noted severe dry mouth in addition to my lingual tonsils being enlarged. He said maybe I was allergic to something and was to get allergy testing. Well I did not go back to get the testing yet, but recently noticed a yellow film on my tongue as well as yellow roof of my mouth.
My tongue also has red sores on the edges and red underneath. My taste buds feel burned and numb - deadened feeling. The worst symptom is that I have a swelling in my throat even which is making it hard to get some foods down. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. I'm in the midst of getting blood work done to rule out anything else, but have been narrowing things down of recent changes I've made to either my diet or lifestyle and came upon this forum.
I read from folks with many of the same or similar symptoms. I also got the dry sore, but not swollen lips. I think that the Optic White is strong and may have something in it that has caused a severe allergic reaction in my mouth/throat. I've of course quit using the toothpaste and wished I hadn't used it for this many weeks before investigating more in depth.

I purchased a tube of the Colgate Pro Clinical White toothpaste from Walgreens. I had no issues with this at first and used it as I've always used toothpaste. This morning, however, while brushing my teeth, I felt very sharp shards of glass in my mouth after only a few brushes. Last week, while squeezing the tube, something had penetrated it and poked me in the finger. I didn't give it much thought. After today, this made better sense. I now know that my toothpaste has shards of glass in it. Has anyone contacted an attorney about this matter?

After reading all the horrific reviews on Colgate Optic White, I think I may be the lucky one. I've been using this toothpaste for about three months now. I did notice a little bit of whitening difference in the beginning, so I continued using it. But I don't notice any whitening anymore. I bought the Optic White mouthwash about a month and a half ago to increase the whitening benefits and just noticed a slight change. Today I noticed that my teeth are very sensitive and the only explanation is the toothpaste and the mouthwash. The crappy whitening effect and tooth sensitivity are the only side effects I have noticed and seeing all the horror stories on here, I'm returning the new toothpaste and mouthwash I just bought!

I think I continued using Colgate Optic White toothpaste for about two months. Then I started having a funny taste in my mouth even when I hadn't eaten anything. I tried to see what was causing it and noticed a bumpy spot in my mouth. I also noticed that my lower gum line had become sore. I thought I needed to brush more than twice a day, and I did, but the soreness didn't go away. I decided to stop using this toothpaste. The soreness of the gum was gone the next day, but I still have a funny taste in my mouth after a month and a half have passed since I stopped using it.

Colgate Optic White - This is the worst toothpaste I have ever used. Within two weeks of using it twice a day, every one of my teeth started to hurt. I have just been to the dentist and had my cavities filled so I knew it wasn't from that. Hot, cold, pressure... everything hurt. I stopped using it, and within a week, my tooth pain was gone. It also didn't make my teeth white (I think it actually made them look more yellow), and when I accidentally got some of it on the skin around my mouth, my skin started to burn. I wouldn't recommend this toothpaste to anyone!

I began using Colgate Optic White Toothpaste a little over a month ago. I began having sores in the back of my mouth at first but they went away. I then began having subtle migraines and a very upset, raw stomach. The pain settled in my neck and shoulders as well. I didn't associate it with the new toothpaste at that time. I went to my chiropractor, whom I hadn't been to in about 10 years. I thought I had done something to cause a problem in my shoulders and neck and it was causing me to have headaches. Everything I ate upset my stomach but I felt I had to put something in my stomach to stave off the pain. I began wondering if I had developed an ulcer. I felt terrible all the time and thought I was just tired because of the holiday festivities and shopping and decorating, etc.
I usually get up in the morning early, 4:00 or 5:00. I began to not be able to get up before 7:00. After Christmas and my daughter had gone home, I slept until 10:00 some days. My days felt as if they were gone by the time I got up. I didn't feel like going anywhere but I made myself. I just couldn't function as I was accustomed to. Then on January 10th at around 6:30 at night, I had a violent episode with excruciating neck pain that radiated into my head and felt like the top of my head was going to blow off as the pain was so intense. It literally almost knocked me off my feet. I sat down in the chair in the living room and my husband got a bag of ice and put on my neck.
I was told the symptoms I experienced were those of a stroke. I went to the doctor the next morning and he told me to go and have a CT scan and carotid artery exam. I could not afford the co-pay so I didn't go. He told me to go to the Emergency Room if I needed to since I wouldn't do the exams. I did end up going to the ER and the doctor there thought I had an aneurysm. I had blood work, a CT scan, a CTA scan and an EKG. I had also developed chest pain and shortness of breath by this time. The scans and tests all came back negative and he diagnosed it as an atypical migraine. I then started evaluating anything new I had begun recently. I realized the only thing was the Optic White toothpaste and read the ingredients. One of the ingredients is BHT which is toxic and has warnings not to release into the environment. I discontinued using the toothpaste and my headaches and shoulder and neck pain have decreased and seem to be less each day, but I still have times when I have to put a heating pad on my neck to soothe the pain and I am living on Ibuprophen.
I truly don't know if this is merely a reaction to a toxin or if it is an allergic reaction as well. I called Colgate and the customer service agent said she would send me a check for the toothpaste I have purchased and a self-addressed postage paid envelope to send back the unused toothpaste tube and my medical reports and bills to them and they will pay them. Apparently, Colgate is quite aware of the toxin in this toothpaste. I researched other toothpastes and this is the only one in the store I visited that had BHT in it. This ingredient is not only unnecessary but toxic. Please do not buy this product. It should be recalled. I have read other reviews that have reported similar problems but none to the extent I have suffered.

I cannot believe the US is allowing Colgate to have this product on the market. I have been in excruciating pain since my first and only use of the product last Friday. I purchased Colgate Optic White at Target last Thursday and used it for the first time on Friday. I immediately began feeling serious pain on my teeth and gums. My tongue felt like it was swollen and sore. My lips immediately started becoming cracked, chapped and dry and still are. I have been in serious pain for three days now. It is so unbearable. I cannot sleep at night, cannot concentrate on work and have trouble staying focused. I am getting up literally every five minutes going to the bathroom and chugging down a gulp of mouthwash for temporary relief.
I have tried everything for the pain. I am constantly rinsing my mouth out with mouthwash for temporary relief (approximately 2 minutes of relief), chewing bubble gum to help, Anbesol (no help at all), massaging my teeth and gums, using gum flossers, etc. This is just unbearable. I have been taking Advil, but no luck with the pain. My whole head is swollen and I am constantly getting throbbing pain down the side of my face. This is awful.

I bought Colgate Optic White for a stocking stuffer. Firstly, I checked the reviews later that night, noticing some remarks about swollen lips, extremely dry tongues, and bumps on the lip. So I thought I wouldn't return the product due to the complaints. Nah, this is Colgate, a nationally recognizable organization. It won't happen to me. After four days of usage, I noticed bumps on lips and, as the other reviews state, it's rather embarrassing, more so than returning a tube of toothpaste back to the store. I'm an extremely passive individual and never write critical reviews, but this product whitens your teeth with the added bonus of bumpy unsightly lips. Smile and the world is a happier place.

I have never felt compelled to write an online complaint about a product until now. I bought a tube of Colgate Optic White and found its whitening ability to be superior to other whitening toothpastes I've tried, so I continued to use it for maybe two months. After using it for a couple of months, I noticed the biting edge of my front upper teeth felt rough as though the edge were eroding. I noticed in other reviews of this product, another consumer had the same complaint. Like him, there were no other external or internal changes in my diet or health of which I am aware, except for the use of this toothpaste. Yes, it whitens but it must be quite abrasive if it is indeed the cause of my sudden problem with my teeth. I think the enamel was abraded clean away and I don't know if it can be renewed. I've considered an emergency visit to my dentist but might just wait until my normal checkup time in March. I'm thinking Colgate did not do enough studies on this product before releasing it for public use.

After using the Colgate Optic White toothpaste for about 2 weeks, my tongue started looking like I had thrush, then it began to be red. Lastly, it looked as if my tongue had been peeled. I called the company. They said that that was an unusual complaint (right!). Of course, I stopped using the paste. Since it contained ammonia, I knew it had to be the paste. Yesterday, I had to go to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor because now I have only one tone that I can speak. I can't sing, call out for someone (such as "Dinner's ready"). The doctor didn't think it was from the toothpaste. I told him about my tongue "peeling", he said it was a coincidence. I am asking if anyone else has had this problem since using the toothpaste.

I bought Colgate Optic White Toothpaste and have used it for three days. I noticed the first time I used it that my mouth and tongue felt tingly. I thought it was just the whitening product working. My tongue has been extremely sensitive for the three days that I have used the product. The left side of my tongue really hurts now and feels like there is a sore developing. It feels as if I have something extremely hot and have a blister. It is really red and swollen. The product also left a weird film on my teeth and they do not really feel clean after I brush them. I am extremely disappointed with the product. I went to the Colgate website that advertises the product and it says that it does not produce sensitivity. This is a complete lie and false advertisement. I have not changed anything else in my diet or product use, so there is no other explanation for the mouth soreness.

Colgate Total Advanced - I changed to Colgate three months ago. My mouth feels like it is burned, numb sometimes, tongue burned, palate is burned. I thought it was the mega dose of vitamin D, but I have been off of D for two weeks and still have the problem. It is worse in the morning. I brush at bedtime and believe this stuff is not washed out for 8 hours while I sleep. The mornings are the worst. My taste is gone and the burn affects my food tastes. I reported this product to the FDA and to Colgate. After reading blogs on this problem, I believe there is a poison of some sort in it. Triclosin is a chemical that was added and I wonder if it is the problem. I suggest anyone with a sore mouth to report this product and change toothpaste immediately.

I purchased the Optic White toothpaste by Colgate about a week and a few days ago. I was so excited to use the product after seeing the commercials and the eye catching package, plus it was on sale! About four days of using the product, I started feeling a tingling sensation all over my lips and noticed teeny tiny bumps on my gums. I also woke up with the left side of my throat and glands swollen. I tried to replay my actions over the past few days to see if I had eaten anything different that may have brought this on. I came up with nothing! I was not dealing with a cold of any sort and I am not allergic to anything in my daily diet. The only new thing that entered in to my world was Colgate Optic White toothpaste. I have now stopped using it and have sought medical attention for my throat, glands and gums. After reading all the reviews on this site and others and reading the ingredients, I am strongly considering a lawsuit and recommend that no one should use this product.

Unfortunately, I used Colgate Optic White for about 2-3 months before I realized all the sensitivity, tingling and severe dry mouth was the result of this awful product. I, like many others, kept wondering why my mouth felt so sore and so dry. I felt as if there was absolutely no saliva in my mouth. My mouth constantly feels like it has been burned. I wake up at least 5-6 times a night to drink water and eating anything with salt, pepper or anything spicy makes my tongue feel like it's on fire. I contacted Colgate 8 weeks ago and got the same story. They never heard of all the complaints!
It has been 2 months since I discontinued use, and I still have same symptoms. I feel like my mouth will never be the same. I hate the way it feels all the time, and I can't believe that I have been using Colgate toothpaste for 40 years and they would put something so harmful on the market. I am so disappointed!

About a week ago, my wife started to develop a rash around her mouth and lips. I initially thought it might be psoriasis as she has had an occasional small outbreak of it on other areas of her body. Over the past three days, it has developed into severe swelling and blistering around her nose, mouth and eyes accompanied by headaches. She decided to take some Benadryl, and it significantly reduced the swelling and redness but still left with blisters on her face which we assume will begin to heal. We have been racking our brains for the past few days trying to figure out what was causing it. After coming across this website and going back in our timeline, we have come upon the conclusion that she started using the Colgate Optic White toothpaste I purchased from Costco a month or so ago while it was on sale.
Our normal brand we have used for a few years now is Sensodyne, but I thought of trying a new brand and the packaging and taste of the product were appealing to both of us. Now knowing that Colgate has done nothing short of poisoning its customers, I am very upset with my decision to bring their product into our house. My wife was embarrassed to go to work as the redness and swelling and blisters around her mouth/nose area made her feel like the "clown" that others have described here - not something anyone should have to go through when all they were initially trying to do was whiten their teeth. We are all in favor of a class action lawsuit against Colgate!

I had purchased a bunch of Colgate Optic White due to the fact that I had a lot of coupons for it. About 3 weeks after using it, I started getting really bad sores in my mouth, which looked like canker sores. The pain and swelling landed me in the hospital 2 times in one week. The hospital doctor counted 17 visible sores in my mouth. I had to put leftover roast in the blender in order to eat. They prescribed me antibiotics and steroids. After I was done with my prescription, I was fine and not only did it leave sores in my mouth, but a rash all over my body that got diagnosed as 3 different things. So after they went away, I was at my mom's and she uses the Optic White. At this time I did not realize it was the Colgate Optic White. I used it and my sores started to come back. I went online and found all these reviews and now realized what it was and have an appointment tomorrow. Hope this helps someone like they all helped me.

I just picked up Colgate toothpaste from my local store, Asda! And I'm disgusted with the different languages on the box. The box and the tube feel cheap. I even thought the item was fake, if such a thing could ever happen. All instructions look like they're in Polish. Not one bit of English on the box. How can this happen? I will be putting it all in the bin. You see ads every day about teeth saying use this best toothpaste, but when you go buy it, it's a load of **. This is trade description and I will never be buying this cheap Colgate crap ever again. I wouldn't even rate it 1 star.

For the past few weeks, I've been suffering from something I believed I had self-diagnosed online as exfoliative cheilitis. It first appeared as a couple of tiny little eruptions (red oozing bumps) on the edge of my lower lip. I thought it must have been an allergy to something I ate because I had never (in my 29 years) had any kind of cold sore or even chapped lips really. It went away, came back, went away, and came back. What happened was that my bottom lip would develop a place about as big as my pinky fingernail that would first feel like a piece of tape over my lip, then peel off and start all over again. A few days ago, the dryness started to spread all over my lower lip, so I really started panicking and started reading more about the symptoms online. Nothing I did (including putting 100% pure shea butter on it 24/7) would stop the process of peeling, embarrassment, stress and discomfort.
Luckily, I found this site and all of you who are suffering too, so I threw away my toothpaste! I've been using Colgate Optic White toothpaste for a few weeks now (since the problem started), and I'm sure it's the cause. I never would have guessed it could have been my toothpaste. I can't believe they would put a product on the market that has such harmful ingredients! I quit using it only a couple of days ago, and my lips though still healing feel much, much better now and have stopped cracking, peeling and feel less tight already. I hope by stopping that it won't be long until my lips are back to being normal and healthy again. How can Colgate justify knowingly poisoning your customers using cheaper substances by making a little more money? I’m so angry.

I used Colgate Optic White toothpaste for three days and had a serious allergic reaction to it which included headache and swelling of my lips and face. The toothpaste was the only thing that could have caused the reaction. I had not had any new foods or drinks and I had not changed any other personal care product aside from the toothpaste. I was instructed by a doctor to take OTC Zyrtec and Pepcid to stop the reaction and Advil to help with the inflammation and headache. After two days, I finally started feeling better and the swelling started to go down. I was shocked to come here and see all of the issues people have experienced with this toothpaste. It obviously can cause serious allergic reactions in some people; hence, it should come with a serious warning label or be taken off of the shelves. As far as whitening, I didn't see any improvement in the few days that I used it. My recommendation: Do not risk using this product!

Three days later, it was still sore and I happened to be at my doctor for a checkup. I asked him to look at it and he said it looked irritated, but didn't look infected. He suggested using Advil to cope with the pain. I did until today (another 3 days later), I went to see my dentist. He kept asking if I ate hot pizza because it looked like my palate was burned. I couldn't figure out how it would've been burned. Tonight after I brushed my teeth and went to do my Optic White rinse, I suddenly realized what the problem was. I started popping Advil every 4-6 hours. The pain even woke me up at night that I had to get up and use more Advil. My stomach is now killing me from using the Advil so much.
I went to the dentist who did X-rays and such, but nothing was wrong with my teeth that he could see. I told him what toothpaste I was using and he was not impressed. He recommended that I buy some paste at his office that would help with teeth sensitivity for $26. It didn't help, so I bought some Sensodyne, which I think is helping a little. This is the first morning I have woken up and not popped Advil right away, although as I type, I feel the pain coming on. This morning, I called Colgate and complained about it. If I don't like something, I just stop using it, but this is beyond that. They have never heard of complaints about this, which I find hard to believe after reading all these posts. I have used Crest 3D religiously for years now, though not a fan of their mouthwash or really any mouthwash for that matter. I have recently been wearing my night guard a lot and needed something to help rinse my mouth because of dryness and bad breath. I went with Optic White because I need more white in my teeth and, why not kill two birds with one stone? A few days after starting using this mouthwash, which I actually was liking and using twice a day, I noticed my mouth was having weird issues. I attributed these problems to oral candidiasis (thrush) because I have always been allergic to retainers and night guards causing yeast build up. I figured that the mouthwash would help with the problem because it contained hydrogen peroxide which is what I would use to treat it anyhow.
I kept rinsing and it was getting worse. Figuring it was just due to stress and thrush, I went to the doctor for medication. The doctor then told me it looks nothing like thrush and he was surprised that it felt the same. I said it did at first but now it is way worse, my skin was peeling off. He did treat me for thrush just to rule it out but it had been a day and half and had only gotten worse. I began to do more research to figure out what is going on, worried it might be a more serious problem while still rinsing. I found two days ago that people were having extreme reactions to the Optic White dental care line and stopped rinsing.
Though my mouth is still peeling and sore, it is way better and I have no doubt that it is only due to the mouthwash. I found the taste and whitening results to be amazing, but the fact that it raped my mouth and caused me to end up at the doctor's and on a prescription is just bad. I also used half the amount to rinse with each time because I am barely 5 feet short and a small-framed person. I could only imagine what would have happened if I used the full amount each time. Having only heard of people using samples of this product and sticking to their normal stuff, I had nothing to go off on but try it myself. My suggestion is to put a warning on the label in huge lettering so people know the terrible side effects. It does what it says, just causes extreme pain and issues while doing so.

It's definitely keeping the pain and itch to a minimum but the sensitivity in my teeth is still there. If you're thinking about trying this toothpaste or mouth wash, think again!

I purchased Colgate Optic White toothpaste two days ago, and I've used it twice a day since. All of a sudden, the inner lines of my lips feel like they are on fire. I have small white (what I thought were) blisters, but they've ended up just being bits of dead skin that I can scrape off with my fingernail that leave behind red, sensitive areas, almost as though my lips have literally been burned. I've been freaking out because never in my 31 years of life have I had cold sores, herpes, and rarely even chapped lips. I can barely smile, and eating anything with any spice, acidity or flavor is currently out of the question. I look like I went to the doctor to get a ** Lisa Rinna lip injection, and this is so not cool. Thank Jeebus for this site. I'm so glad I played a little game of process of elimination. This is an angry toothpaste made by people that must hate healthy mouths! Shame on you, Colgate.

After day 6, irritation began. I now have a feeling of dry mouth, which I have never had before. I am discontinuing use of the toothpaste and wanted to warn others to be cautious about the products you use. Research them before use, not after you have a problem. I thought this type of product was regulated and I didn't need to be concerned. I was wrong. Due diligence is needed for whatever you put into or on your body parts.

I used the toothpaste twice daily for about a week before problems began. I woke up in the night with horrific nerve sensitivity in one of my molars. I had been to the dentist about three weeks earlier and had no dental problems. Every time I would stoop over or look down, I felt like my tooth was going to fall out. I thought I had developed a problem with a tooth that would even require a root canal. I called the dentist and had him redo the crown on the tooth. He said the previous crown was very unusual because the minute he touched it, it just fell apart. I still had gum soreness and continued to use the toothpaste. I again woke up in the night with the same type of pain, but this time the pain was on the other side.
I started thinking how similar it was to the previous experience I had just had with the other tooth. I questioned if I had done anything different that might be the cause of these problems. The only thing that I had done different in the last few weeks was change my brand of toothpaste. I immediately threw the tube in the garbage and went back to my previous toothpaste. I continued to have sensitivity for a week or two. After reading other posts, I am lucky that I did not have more severe long-term problems. Please take this horrible product off the shelves!

I used Colgate Optic White toothpaste for about 2 weeks. On a Wednesday morning, I checked into the local hospital for an endoscopy. When I came out of recovery, my lower lip had begun to swell, and no one could explain it except to say I had an allergic reaction to something - possibly anesthesia, medication, etc. Within a half hour of leaving the hospital, both my lips had swollen so badly my husband rushed me back to the ER, and I spent 8 hours on an IV with Benadryl Pepcid, Epinephrine and Adrenalin, was placed on a heart monitor, etc. The swelling reduced to about half what it was, and I returned home with 4 prescriptions, including an Epi-pen (emergency needle containing Epinephrine) in case the swelling returned. It did. On Saturday morning, I awoke to a swollen tongue, swollen glands in my neck, and had to use the Epi-pen to keep myself from choking. Duh, do not use Optic White!

I purchased this product because my hygienist suggested it. However, upon trying it, within minutes my tongue swelled and cankers appeared all over my tongue. Worried about this weird experience, I asked my boyfriend to look at the red, raised bumps. My worry caused me to then gargle - that eased the strange sensation. I rose the next morning to a swollen tongue and blisters that resembled cold sores. The blisters lined my lower lip and are extremely painful. The tip of my tongue is also still very sensitive, as though it has been scalded. I will not ever use a Colgate/Palmolive product ever again and have notified the makers of Colgate of this serious issue!

I recently bought Colgate Optic White toothpaste because, well, who doesn't want whiter teeth? About 4 days later, I broke out in a cold sore on my lip (obviously not because of the toothpaste) and then a day later, the entire inside of my mouth broke out in canker sores. My gums were so inflamed and sore and the tissue on my gums actually sloughed off multiple times. I went to both my doctor and dentist who both assumed it was related to the cold sore virus and my dentist gave me a mouth rinse to help deaden the pain. I have had to miss work and have not been able to eat properly over 3 days because of this. I never thought about the toothpaste being an issue until someone asked me what kind I used and since I recently switched, it's the only thing that makes sense. I have used other whitening toothpastes before and never had issues. I will never use another product from Colgate and will be sure to tell everyone I know how horrible and unsafe this product is. I just hope my mouth heals soon and that it doesn't cause any long term effects with my teeth. And all because I wanted whiter teeth.

I bought Colgate Optic White toothpaste two weeks ago because it was on sale. After using it for four days, the left side of my upper lip seemed to be chapped. I really didn't think too much of it because I had been out golfing so I figured it was sunburned. I used copious amounts of Chapstick. After my whole lip area, under my tongue, and the end of my tongue became bright red, itching uncontrollably, I went to my dentist. She told me it was from the Colgate Optic White toothpaste and that she had seen this before with some of the Colgate toothpastes. She gave me a prescription for a mouthwash to swish with consisting of Benadryl liquid, kaopectate, and lidocaine to relieve the itching and pain. I was also told to buy Eucerine cream (not lotion) and coat my lips and inside of my lips with it. It evidently has a healing component better than Chapstick.
Well, needless to say, it's working. I suffered for a week and it got progressively worse to where I wanted to bite my tongue and lips right off they itched and hurt so bad. It's been two days and I'm finally doing better. My dentist told me to throw away the toothpaste, toothbrush, and that it's made in Mexico so the standards are not the same. I basically had an allergic reaction resulting in a chemical burn on my lips, tongue, and mouth. Buyer beware. Don't use Colgate Optic White toothpaste. It's not worth the chance. I was told to go back to using Crest!

I've had this bottle for quite awhile, as it was purchased in Pathmark - Camden, New Jersey when I decided to go grocery shopping after work before crossing back over to Philadelphia. I am seeking assistance as I fear someone may be hurt as a result.Thank You.

I used Colgate Total toothpaste for a number of years, thinking I was giving my teeth the best possible treatment to prevent gum disease and bad breath. However, I was losing skin on my gums and my dentist sent me to a periodontist. As a result of using Colgate toothpaste, my mouth was so dry, the skin was peeling off my gum. Now I am faced with an enormous dental bill as I now need surgery to rebuild the gum or I will lose my teeth. If I lose my teeth, I will then be toothless as I do not have enough gum to hold the false teeth in.
My first surgery is scheduled for April 19th. Since I do not have medical insurance nor dental insurance, all of this will come out of my pocket. All because I believed I was giving my mouth the royal treatment by using Colgate Total toothpaste. I am now using an organic toothpaste and my mouth is much better but the skin is gone.

I was brushing my teeth with Colgate Toothpaste, net wt 6.4 oz tub. I was cut inside my mouth when I was brushing my teeth with this tooth paste and found that there were glass pieces, about 1/4 to 5/8 long in the tube. The first time I thought it was the toothbrush, but not so. I have now cuts in my mouth after brushing, and my mouth is sore.

I bought a tube of Colgate toothpaste and it was full of glass shards. It cut my gums up real good. I called Colgate and they wanted me to send the tube back to them. Yeah, right. Is anybody doing anything about this? I had severely cut gums and swelling and I had to take penicillin for 2 weeks.

I purchased a bottle of colgate simply white clear whitening gel from a local CVS store in June 2004 and in July 2004 I used this product on my teeth. After three applications as directed, I noticed the outside of my mouth around the lip area turning white. I immediately stopped using this product.
After a couple of weeks had passed white patches started appearing in my face and spreaded to the side of my face as well. I went to a local dermatologist and he prescribed some cream and I used it for about a month but the patches didn't get better. I finally decided to go to a skin specialist out of town. This doctor prescribed a different cream and performed some test.
This cream is working a little better than the first but my pigment hasn't fully come back.
The use of this product has caused me facial damage and I have purchased numerous kinds of make-up to cover up the discoloration. I have always had a nice skin complexion and never wore make-up before this incident. I'm having to purchase make-up every month to cover up this problem.

A couple of weeks ago I purchased Toothpaste (Colgate Total) only to find that on the second day of use, I squeezed out a black piece of rubber mixed in the paste.
I contacted the 1800 number and they acknowledged that this has happened before and they asked me to send them the product and piece of rubber. They sent me two free products coupons. Is this a buy off?
The customer service agent told me that this is not the first time a piece of rubber has been found in the toothpaste and it's just a rubber gasket that has broken down and mixed in the paste before packaging into the tube.
My concern is that this piece was small enough to choke on if a child had stuck it in there mouth.
