My dentist recommended that I try Colgate Total for brushing with. I took it home, and I used it, but 3 days later. I couldn't find my regular toothpaste (Sensodyne), so I tried the Colgate. Within 30 seconds of brushing I found I had an extreme pain coming from the roof of my mouth. I checked with my finger, and there was a bump there that wasn't there before. I immediately rinsed out the Colgate, rinsed again with salt-water, then brushed gently with Sensodyne. I also had to apply Oragel. Within a day, the bump was gone, but it's been 4 days, and the pain is still there. My dentist has recommended that I rinse with Periogard as well as my usual methods, and has decided to warn patients of the possibility of such reactions. I know I'll never use Colgate again.

Back in the beginning of October of 2014 I purchased optic white toothpaste. As I used this toothpaste, it was giving me very warm sensation. I just thought that this was what it was supposed to do, however it got worse from there. This sensation got greater even when I wasn't brushing, then it started to cause terrible pain, I mean all of my teeth and my gums. This had me in so much pain I thought I was going to die. When I thought it was over, it happened again, blinding pain over and over then I developed a pretty highly sensitivity issue as well that is ongoing to date. With periodic pain issues, this has caused real discomfort for me and I wanted Colgate to know about this problem their product has caused.

So when I made contact, they asked for me to mail them the toothpaste in the package they provided, so I did. They also told me if I wanted to be reimbursed and make a claim for damages, do so in writing and so I did, and I haven't heard from them concerning that as of yet. I did also go to a dentist, they confirmed, that it was the toothpaste, and told me to stop using it, of course by then I did!

I was using Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief. The dentist gave me the sample last fall. I started using the sample from my travel bag approximately Feb 10/2015. At my regular scheduled appt on Feb 21/2015, I mentioned tooth sensitivity was present. My check-up was fine, including x-rays. The hygienist instructed me to use it all the time, instead of casually. The result(s) have been extremely painful. My teeth are extremely sensitive to hot, cold, and pressure. Flossing is difficult as my teeth have moved together. Swelling is present. The pain radiates into the jaw bones. My wife experienced the same pain, using the same product two months ago; we didn't connect the dots until last night as I was working out of town. I can only hope that ceasing the use of this product will return my mouth to its former state. Beware this toothpaste.

I received some Colgate Optic White toothpaste in my stocking at Christmas. When I ran out of my normal toothpaste I started using it. Didn't realize at the time, but before long I had a white tongue with sores and burning in my mouth. I've been googling to find what might cause this and found this list of complaints and I'm blown away. I had no idea something as simple as toothpaste could cause these types of problems. I stopped using it today, and have just been rinsing with salt water. Any recommendations how to recover? Also wondering what a good toothpaste is, as I'm very skeptical of using anything now.

I did not connect my sore mouth in December to the toothpaste until last week when I developed sores again and rawness in my mouth. I was thinking about what I had eaten on my last trip and on this trip last week - nothing connected. Then I remembered the new toothpaste. It IS the toothpaste. I have been using a mild salt rinse, using my regular toothpaste and eating softer foods. The sore under my tongue is healing as is the rawness on my gums. No Colgate anything ever again for me!! I subsequently endured much discomfort and lost my sense of taste for several months, which was extremely depressing. Though I never used it again, the irritation and loss of taste for several months recurred twice. Now I'm terrified to put anything in my mouth. Someone needs to start a CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT for this dangerous product. I have been suffering for nearly a year simply because I bought a tube of toothpaste at Target.

Four days have passed and the salty taste is still there but slowly beginning to diminish. It's very irritating because even after eating a sweet, the salty taste is instantly back. Approximately in August, my temporary bridge broke and I went to my out of town dentist, who recommended Colgate Total for my plaque buildup. I had never used it before. Approximately in January 2010, I had no taste or smell. It is impossible for anyone who has not experienced it to understand how depressing and socially isolating this is. I have tried two types of acupuncture, biomagnetic, EFT therapy, as well as Nose sprays and steroids. Have had some partial or temporary relief. About three weeks ago, when Dr. ** spoke out against triclosan, I immediately switched brands. Colgate Optic White Mouthwash - Warning!!! Please do not use this product. It has some very nasty side effects. I recently purchased this product about 3 months ago and had been using it regularly. At the time I began having an onset of my lip swelling within several hours and even days of using this product. At first I thought it may have been some type of food allergy because I read that "MSG" which is a flavor enhancer was found in some Chinese food. And when I first begin having the onset of swelling I had eaten Chinese food so I associated the swelling with the food I had eaten. I refrained from Chinese food but the swelling continued and I realized that it wasn't the Chinese food that was causing the swelling.

So I assumed that maybe it was my medication. But I wasn't very convinced about that because I've been taking the same medicine for years and never had a problem before. So, I stop taking one of them for a few days and then reinvited it and I was perfectly fine. I didn't experience any lip swelling or anything. I hadn't used the mouth wash either for about a week or so during this time of me trying to pinpoint the problem. So are getting back on my meds routinely I was still unsure about what was causing my lips to swell. But the very day I began to use the mouthwash again; after not using it for a week or so, guess what happen??? I had swelling that same day. It wasn't immediate swelling right after use. It was within several hours. I used it in the morning before work about 7:30ish (a.m.), and around 5:20 (p.m.) or so I could literally feel my top lip swelling as if I had just been punched.

At this point I was able to pinpoint exactly what was causing this problem. I hadn't used the mouth wash for about a week or so and then when I finally did the swelling came back. I immediately discarded this product when I got home. And I haven't experience anything like that since. I am so glad I identified the problem because with continuous use it could have potentially become fatal.

Imagine hearing this from your doctor after you've been married for a decade.

The next 6 months of my life were in complete misery, thinking I had Herpes and HIV. I lost a severe amount of weight, hair, health, mental & physical, etc. I attempted suicide. My little one and I moved cross country to live with family. My family is torn apart now. I'm slowly trying to work on my life and marriage. My life is in complete ruin right now because of this stupid toothpaste. I am now hooked on anti-anxiety medication and going through therapy. Fortunately, I have not tested HIV positive and have not had an episode of this since using this toothpaste.

A few days ago, I ran out of my normal toothpaste and used a family members tube of Colgate Total. The same thing exact thing happened. After reading through these comments, I have finally found what was the cause of my problem. You've got to be kidding me. I have wasted so much money and time, I will never get back. I hope that I can get my physical and mental health and life back. I have since developed a thyroid disorder, which was more than likely due to the severe amount of stress and mental anguish. I've also been diagnosed with PTSD, GAD w/ agoraphobia and suffer from severe hypochondria. I can't sleep at night without taking medicine or I will wake up sweating, in panic, in fear that I have a life-threatening disease. To say that I absolutely hate this product would be an understatement.

For the longest time, Colgate has been the reason for my teeth feeling sore when waking up in the morning. It's only when brushing with said toothpaste that my teeth feel sore the following day and I've been brushing with different brands throughout the years of experiencing this. It's happened long enough that I've been able to point my finger at Colgate as the cause as only the months of brushing with Colgate would I experience this soreness. Last time brushing with Colgate, the following morning it literally felt like somebody punched me in my front teeth. I now understand why the Tourettes Guy called in to complain. This is an example of a faulty product that's left on the shelves.

Like a couple others have mentioned, I found a shard of glass 1 inch long in one of the Colgate products, 'Tarter Control, Mint Past'. I had used approximately 1/4 of the tube prior to this, so it would appear that the glass was buried rather deep inside. Obviously this could result in a very dangerous problem with cutting or choking. I'm not sure what steps I should take next, but it appears that this is an on going problem of either bad quality control or intentional sabotage... or both. I plan on following up on reporting this.

Today is the 3rd day after my 2nd trip to the ER in the past month. I feel like I am dying. Every test in the world has been done on me and except for the normal problems I've had since 2009, nothing shows up. I can't eat. I feel like I'm going to throw up every 5 minutes. I've had diarrhea for 10 days. My mouth is broken out with cold sores. I'm weak, dizzy, and hear ringing in my ears. I can't even stand for very long without feeling like I'm going to faint. Since all internal tests are negative, I began concentrating on my head after a dear friend of mine told me of her 18-year-old son's incredible suffering with these same symptoms.

After two years of doctor's scratching their heads, he himself sent off for a metal allergy test upon synopsizing his symptoms and researching the Web. Turns out he is off the charts for titanium allergy. Colgate Maximum Strength Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste has titanium in it! The toothpaste in my guest bathroom does not. I'm so scared right now. I've been using this toothpaste for years. I wouldn't even know how to get it out of my system. Of course, I'm tossing it, but what damage has been done that can't be reversed? I'm calling my allergist immediately but just had to post this during my research. Please, please, people, see if you have a titanium allergy. It could be your answer!

Colgate Optic White - Been using this on & off. I think it works just a little. I'm not sure though because I smoke, I'm a smoker, causes discoloration plus I drink several cups of coffee a day. Maybe it does really work and just couldn't tell because of the stains I get from old bad habits that are hard to get rid of (what can I do lol, I love coffee! And tried e-cigs but did not work for me!) so I don't know. I did however experience some the side effects reported in this website, but not to the same extent. No extreme pain or blistering, just a little discomfort, i.e. a little burning sensation, dryness of the mouth, peeling of the skin, you know the white stingy skin you get after brushing or gargling with anything that’s too strong?

One of my friends made a comment on how my teeth got a tad bit whiter after using the toothpaste continuously for a month or more. Pretty sure I had already used up at least 1 tube at the time. However, as far as I can remember around that time I started using disposable cigarette filter, so I really couldn't say if the toothpaste had anything to do with my friend noticing. I switch brands every now and then. I use Gumtech (local brand) sometimes because I think it's good for my gums. So it’s possible that not being exposed to whatever chemical they have in this product over prolonged period of time helps to avoid getting ulcers and other stuff unfortunately others have had to go through.

So maybe it would be wise to switch brands while you're not experiencing any of the terrible side effects yet to give your gums and teeth some time to like recover. Not going to tell people to totally avoid using this product but I definitely would not recommend Colgate Optic White to anyone w/ highly sensitive gums/teeth - not after reading some of the horrible reviews.

This has never happened to me before but I thought I must be getting sick. One evening my son (16) used the toothpaste and within a couple of hours his lymph nodes in the right side of his neck began to swell to the size of a walnut. He could not eat because it hurt his throat. We had to contact a doctor because it got so bad, so quickly that it scared me. He was given benadryl which reduced the swelling. Although the swelling has gone down, his gland is still sore from the rapid swelling. That night, we reviewed all new products in our home and discovered it may be the toothpaste. We quit using it immediately and the symptoms are all going away for both of us. This product should not be on the shelf. I only hope this review will help others prior to buying it so they will never have to experience what we went through. I can't believe Colgate would keep a product like this in supermarkets!!

A few days later my gums started swelling and begin to bleed constantly making it hard to for me to eat, work, sleep everything causing severe pain and headaches and me almost losing my job. I have had all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically cut out and it doesn't compare to this feeling at all. This brand of toothpaste has put me through hell the last few days.

After hours and hours of research I came across this website and went straight to the hospital. I started using Colgate Optic White several months ago. I already had pretty white teeth naturally but I wanted to keep them that way because of the tea/coffee that I drink. To complement the toothpaste got a large bottle of the Optic White mouthwash. I'm 40 yrs old and my teeth have always been quite healthy and low maintenance, with few cavities and no sensitivity issues. After using the toothpaste, noticed my gums receding and a sensitive part of the tooth started to be exposed. But when I started using the mouthwash, things REALLY escalated. My teeth have become so sensitive during brushing that I switched just this past weekend to using Sensodyne. Right away I noticed no irritation during brushing. That's when I realized the change in my teeth and gums were directly related to the use of Colgate Optic White.

I used the Sensodyne this weekend and then this morning decided to try using the mouthwash one more time, and I had to spit it immediately out of my mouth because of how my teeth hurt with sensitivity. It was SO bad! Tonight I decided to Google key words "Colgate Optic White teeth sensitivity" and found a ton of similar complaints. Then I remembered that at my last dental visit the dental hygienist cleaning my teeth noted my sensitive spots where my gums had eroded and exposed sensitive parts of the tooth, and she told me to avoid using toothpastes with harsh abrasives like baking soda.

I came home and immediately looked at the ingredients in Optic and there was no baking soda so I felt confident I could continue using the products and just thought the change in my teeth over the last 6 months was due to natural ageing or something. But seeing the difference when I decide to try and use the trial size tube of Sensodyne to address the sensitivity, it not only did, but my whole brushing experience was a lot more comfortable.

I'm so disappointed because I grew up on Colgate products and always prided myself on my perfect healthy teeth. It's terrible to think my teeth could remain permanently like this because of Colgate! They should warn people to not use the toothpaste and mouthwash every day if it's too strong, not just let people unknowingly destroy their teeth. I'm really disappointed. I'll be contacting my dentist to see what can be done AND telling all those people who always compliment me on my white smile and ask me if I use anything special, what NOT to use, that's for sure!

I noticed some pain so I decided not to do that anymore. Well, on Wednesday, Sept. 23, I made a dental appointment for a maintenance cleaning. After this appointment the dental hygienist ran a light in my mouth and was mortified. I noticed some slight sensitivity and being a "tough" guy I just ignored it. The hygienist had the dentist examine me and the dentist told me that my taste buds were missing from the end of my tongue and that I had skin tissues damaged on the roof of my mouth. She said it wasn't normal. She suggested I see my primary care doctor and worst case scenario it could be cancer.

I never made the connection at the dentist's office to the toothpaste but it has become very clear that after reading these hundreds of reviews it could very well be damage cause from this product. I took my cell phone and snapped a couple photos. Well, my fingers are crossed and I'm praying.

I thought I was going insane! I've been using this, too. Yes, tingling, burning. I've been brushing my tongue with it - a debated thing. Some dentists say yes, others say no. Many articles mentioned yeast infections of the mouth. I get yeast like right before my menses. Doc calls it hormonal and nothing to worry about. But when I had this experience, I thought it was progressing, that something was wrong, etc. I found this forum, stopped using the toothpaste, and what do you know? I'm fine. Unbelievable! Still, I've learned my lesson. I will be careful about my toothpastes in the future.

Thinking it was a food allergy at first, I realized after the third use that it was in fact the Colgate toothpaste. Please be advised before using.

May 29, 2013, I flew to France for my niece's wedding and I bought a travel size Colgate Optic White toothpaste to take with me. I used it twice a day for the duration of my vacation and continued to use it when I returned home. When I returned home, I bought two more regular size tubes that happened to be on sale. The second week in June, I noticed all of the glands on the right side of my neck were quite swollen and limited the movement of my head to the right side. After a week, the swelling went down and I was left with a lump on the right side of my neck. I waited for a couple of weeks before making an appointment with my doctor because I thought it could have been a result of the air pressure on my ears (thus affecting my glands) from flying.

I went to my doctor in July and he didn't think it was anything serious but to put his mind and my mind at ease, he was sending me for a CT scan. Had the CT scan (with the dye injection) in August and my doctor received the results the same day. He contacted me stating there was a 1 cm. node on my lymph gland and the technician labelled it "not normal". I am now waiting on pins and needles for an appointment with an ENT specialist. Naturally I am thinking that it is cancer.

Today is September 8th and I have been using this toothpaste twice a day until yesterday. For the past several weeks, I have had a constant chemical/metal taste in my mouth that only goes away when I'm eating. When I run my tongue over my teeth, I taste chemicals and my teeth feel like they have "fur" growing on them (as if I have gone days without brushing my teeth). Last night was the first time that I made a connection between the chemical taste in my mouth and the use of Optic White. I immediately ran to the store to buy my old toothpaste, Aquafresh. Already, I notice the chemical taste is dissipating. I did not have the burning or mouth sores; if I had, perhaps I would have made the connection back in June. Funny, what they say about hindsight, because I did notice a little white blister (I thought it was a pimple), on the corner of my top lip back in June.

I should have questioned that more because I am 51 years old and have never had a cold sore in my life. I am praying to God that I do not have cancer and after reading all of the other reviews, I am hoping the swollen node is an allergic reaction. I know, strange eh, hoping I have an allergic reaction; but it is much better than the alternative that has taken over my thoughts. How can Colgate keep saying when contacted, that this is the first complaint of that nature they received, when so many on this panel have contacted them? My guess is they will never admit culpability and they will not recall the product because this will open the window for possible lawsuits. My guess is what you will see is the price of the product drastically reduced (which is happening now), and stores will continue to sell it until it is gone and then you will no longer be able to buy it because I bet Colgate has already stopped production of Optic White!

The corners of my lips also cracked badly, I developed headaches, and the back of my throat has been swollen and red. I never thought that it was the toothpaste. I thought it was something I ate, which is still a stretch for me since I have never had allergy issues. I took Benadryl with no relief, so I made an appointment with my doctor this past month. They asked me if I tried any different products recently, but the toothpaste never came to mind because it's toothpaste that's something everyone uses. I went to have an allergy and herpes test (so embarrassing) and both came back negative. I eliminated food places and food products, but still no results.

Finally, it clicked to check the toothpaste reviews after reading someone's chapped lip experience online. I am so upset about all these reviews. After finding these reviews, I have recently thrown out the Optic White and switched to TOM's all-natural toothpaste. I'm going to make appointments for my dentist and ENT to check to see if there has been any serious damage. This is absurd that Colgate has not pulled this product with all of these bad complaints. I bought a travel-size tube of Colgate Optic White toothpaste because I wanted to try and whiten my teeth and figured it would be a good product. I've been using it for about two or three weeks now. I noticed just recently that my gums were getting kinda sore. I didn't think anything of it until a dime-sized section of skin peeled off the roof of my mouth, which has never happened before. So I went on with my day and figured it was just one of those things. Then I noticed my throat started hurting (within hours of skin peeling), so my dad checked it out and he said it looked yellowish and it's very uncomfortable. So I went online looking for what this could possibly be, and came across this site, and what people are saying about...(who knew) Colgate Optic White toothpaste. I am experiencing the same things, so I figured it has to be linked...

I did some research as well. Colgate Optic White Toothpaste has Propylene Glycol in it, which is really a downgraded version of Antifreeze, which, if the right amount of pH buffering agents aren't added, can corrode metals... Teeth aren't made of metal, and metal is obviously stronger.

I'm just wondering if these symptoms will last. I've stopped using the product of course, but I'm wondering if these symptoms will go away or if this is going to affect me for a while. Granted, everyone's different.

I began using Colgate Optic White Toothpaste a little over a month ago. I began having sores in the back of my mouth at first but they went away. I then began having subtle migraines and a very upset, raw stomach. The pain settled in my neck and shoulders as well. I didn't associate it with the new toothpaste at that time. I went to my chiropractor, whom I hadn't been to in about 10 years. I thought I had done something to cause a problem in my shoulders and neck and it was causing me to have headaches. Everything I ate upset my stomach but I felt I had to put something in my stomach to stave off the pain. I began wondering if I had developed an ulcer. I felt terrible all the time and thought I was just tired because of the holiday festivities and shopping and decorating, etc.

I usually get up in the morning early, 4:00 or 5:00. I began to not be able to get up before 7:00. After Christmas and my daughter had gone home, I slept until 10:00 some days. My days felt as if they were gone by the time I got up. I didn't feel like going anywhere but I made myself. I just couldn't function as I was accustomed to. Then on January 10th at around 6:30 at night, I had a violent episode with excruciating neck pain that radiated into my head and felt like the top of my head was going to blow off as the pain was so intense. It literally almost knocked me off my feet. I sat down in the chair in the living room and my husband got a bag of ice and put on my neck.

I was told the symptoms I experienced were those of a stroke. I went to the doctor the next morning and he told me to go and have a CT scan and carotid artery exam. I could not afford the co-pay so I didn't go. He told me to go to the Emergency Room if I needed to since I wouldn't do the exams. I did end up going to the ER and the doctor there thought I had an aneurysm. I had blood work, a CT scan, a CTA scan and an EKG. I had also developed chest pain and shortness of breath by this time. The scans and tests all came back negative and he diagnosed it as an atypical migraine. I then started evaluating anything new I had begun recently. I realized the only thing was the Optic White toothpaste and read the ingredients. One of the ingredients is BHT which is toxic and has warnings not to release into the environment. I discontinued using the toothpaste and my headaches and shoulder and neck pain have decreased and seem to be less each day, but I still have times when I have to put a heating pad on my neck to soothe the pain and I am living on Ibuprophen.

I truly don't know if this is merely a reaction to a toxin or if it is an allergic reaction as well. I called Colgate and the customer service agent said she would send me a check for the toothpaste I have purchased and a self-addressed postage paid envelope to send back the unused toothpaste tube and my medical reports and bills to them and they will pay them. Apparently, Colgate is quite aware of the toxin in this toothpaste. I researched other toothpastes and this is the only one in the store I visited that had BHT in it. This ingredient is not only unnecessary but toxic. Please do not buy this product. It should be recalled. I have read other reviews that have reported similar problems but none to the extent I have suffered.

I had to put Sellotape on to keep the toothpaste from coming out on the side. I was so disappointed. I don't think I'll buy that toothpaste again.

After using the Colgate Optic White toothpaste for about 2 weeks, my tongue started looking like I had thrush, then it began to be red. Lastly, it looked as if my tongue had been peeled. I called the company. They said that that was an unusual complaint (right!). Of course, I stopped using the paste. Since it contained ammonia, I knew it had to be the paste. Yesterday, I had to go to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor because now I have only one tone that I can speak. I can't sing, call out for someone (such as "Dinner's ready"). The doctor didn't think it was from the toothpaste. I told him about my tongue "peeling", he said it was a coincidence. I am asking if anyone else has had this problem since using the toothpaste.

I bought Colgate Optic White Toothpaste and have used it for three days. I noticed the first time I used it that my mouth and tongue felt tingly. I thought it was just the whitening product working. My tongue has been extremely sensitive for the three days that I have used the product. The left side of my tongue really hurts now and feels like there is a sore developing. It feels as if I have something extremely hot and have a blister. It is really red and swollen. The product also left a weird film on my teeth and they do not really feel clean after I brush them. I am extremely disappointed with the product. I went to the Colgate website that advertises the product and it says that it does not produce sensitivity. This is a complete lie and false advertisement. I have not changed anything else in my diet or product use, so there is no other explanation for the mouth soreness.

I brush at bedtime and believe this stuff is not washed out for 8 hours while I sleep. The mornings are the worst. My taste is gone and the burn affects my food tastes. I reported this product to the FDA and to Colgate. After reading blogs on this problem, I believe there is a poison of some sort in it. Triclosin is a chemical that was added and I wonder if it is the problem. I suggest anyone with a sore mouth to report this product and change toothpaste immediately.

I purchased the Optic White toothpaste by Colgate about a week and a few days ago. I was so excited to use the product after seeing the commercials and the eye catching package, plus it was on sale! About four days of using the product, I started feeling a tingling sensation all over my lips and noticed teeny tiny bumps on my gums. I also woke up with the left side of my throat and glands swollen. I tried to replay my actions over the past few days to see if I had eaten anything different that may have brought this on. I came up with nothing! I was not dealing with a cold of any sort and I am not allergic to anything in my daily diet. The only new thing that entered in to my world was Colgate Optic White toothpaste. I have now stopped using it and have sought medical attention for my throat, glands and gums. After reading all the reviews on this site and others and reading the ingredients, I am strongly considering a lawsuit and recommend that no one should use this product.

Unfortunately, I used Colgate Optic White for about 2-3 months before I realized all the sensitivity, tingling and severe dry mouth was the result of this awful product. I, like many others, kept wondering why my mouth felt so sore and so dry. I felt as if there was absolutely no saliva in my mouth. My mouth constantly feels like it has been burned. I wake up at least 5-6 times a night to drink water and eating anything with salt, pepper or anything spicy makes my tongue feel like it's on fire. I contacted Colgate 8 weeks ago and got the same story. They never heard of all the complaints!

It has been 2 months since I discontinued use, and I still have same symptoms. I feel like my mouth will never be the same. I hate the way it feels all the time, and I can't believe that I have been using Colgate toothpaste for 40 years and they would put something so harmful on the market. I am so disappointed!

About a week ago, my wife started to develop a rash around her mouth and lips. I initially thought it might be psoriasis as she has had an occasional small outbreak of it on other areas of her body. Over the past three days, it has developed into severe swelling and blistering around her nose, mouth and eyes accompanied by headaches. She decided to take some Benadryl, and it significantly reduced the swelling and redness but still left with blisters on her face which we assume will begin to heal. We have been racking our brains for the past few days trying to figure out what was causing it. After coming across this website and going back in our timeline, we have come upon the conclusion that she started using the Colgate Optic White toothpaste I purchased from Costco a month or so ago while it was on sale.

Our normal brand we have used for a few years now is Sensodyne, but I thought of trying a new brand and the packaging and taste of the product were appealing to both of us. Now knowing that Colgate has done nothing short of poisoning its customers, I am very upset with my decision to bring their product into our house. My wife was embarrassed to go to work as the redness and swelling and blisters around her mouth/nose area made her feel like the "clown" that others have described here - not something anyone should have to go through when all they were initially trying to do was whiten their teeth. We are all in favor of a class action lawsuit against Colgate!

About 3 weeks after using it, I started getting really bad sores in my mouth, which looked like canker sores. The pain and swelling landed me in the hospital 2 times in one week. The hospital doctor counted 17 visible sores in my mouth. I had to put leftover roast in the blender in order to eat. They prescribed me antibiotics and steroids. After I was done with my prescription, I was fine and not only did it leave sores in my mouth, but a rash all over my body that got diagnosed as 3 different things. So after they went away, I was at my mom's and she uses the Optic White. At this time I did not realize it was the Colgate Optic White. I used it and my sores started to come back. I went online and found all these reviews and now realized what it was and have an appointment tomorrow. Hope this helps someone like they all helped me.

For the past few weeks, I've been suffering from something I believed I had self-diagnosed online as exfoliative cheilitis. It first appeared as a couple of tiny little eruptions (red oozing bumps) on the edge of my lower lip. I thought it must have been an allergy to something I ate because I had never (in my 29 years) had any kind of cold sore or even chapped lips really. It went away, came back, went away, and came back. What happened was that my bottom lip would develop a place about as big as my pinky fingernail that would first feel like a piece of tape over my lip, then peel off and start all over again. A few days ago, the dryness started to spread all over my lower lip, so I really started panicking and started reading more about the symptoms online. Nothing I did (including putting 100% pure shea butter on it 24/7) would stop the process of peeling, embarrassment, stress and discomfort.

Luckily, I found this site and all of you who are suffering too, so I threw away my toothpaste! I've been using Colgate Optic White toothpaste for a few weeks now (since the problem started), and I'm sure it's the cause. I never would have guessed it could have been my toothpaste. I can't believe they would put a product on the market that has such harmful ingredients! I quit using it only a couple of days ago, and my lips though still healing feel much, much better now and have stopped cracking, peeling and feel less tight already. I hope by stopping that it won't be long until my lips are back to being normal and healthy again. How can Colgate justify knowingly poisoning your customers using cheaper substances by making a little more money? I’m so angry.

I was instructed by a doctor to take OTC Zyrtec and Pepcid to stop the reaction and Advil to help with the inflammation and headache. After two days, I finally started feeling better and the swelling started to go down. I was shocked to come here and see all of the issues people have experienced with this toothpaste. It obviously can cause serious allergic reactions in some people; hence, it should come with a serious warning label or be taken off of the shelves. As far as whitening, I didn't see any improvement in the few days that I used it. My recommendation: Do not risk using this product!

Three days later, it was still sore and I happened to be at my doctor for a checkup. I asked him to look at it and he said it looked irritated, but didn't look infected. He suggested using Advil to cope with the pain. I did until today (another 3 days later), I went to see my dentist. He kept asking if I ate hot pizza because it looked like my palate was burned. I couldn't figure out how it would've been burned. Tonight after I brushed my teeth and went to do my Optic White rinse, I suddenly realized what the problem was. I started popping Advil every 4-6 hours. The pain even woke me up at night that I had to get up and use more Advil. My stomach is now killing me from using the Advil so much.

I went to the dentist who did X-rays and such, but nothing was wrong with my teeth that he could see. I told him what toothpaste I was using and he was not impressed. He recommended that I buy some paste at his office that would help with teeth sensitivity for $26. It didn't help, so I bought some Sensodyne, which I think is helping a little. This is the first morning I have woken up and not popped Advil right away, although as I type, I feel the pain coming on. This morning, I called Colgate and complained about it. If I don't like something, I just stop using it, but this is beyond that. They have never heard of complaints about this, which I find hard to believe after reading all these posts. They are going to refund my $26 and send coupons, but they need to take Optic White off the market! I appreciate the $26 but it doesn't cover the dental visit, time off work, and the pain!

I have used Crest 3D religiously for years now, though not a fan of their mouthwash or really any mouthwash for that matter. I have recently been wearing my night guard a lot and needed something to help rinse my mouth because of dryness and bad breath. I went with Optic White because I need more white in my teeth and, why not kill two birds with one stone? A few days after starting using this mouthwash, which I actually was liking and using twice a day, I noticed my mouth was having weird issues. I attributed these problems to oral candidiasis (thrush) because I have always been allergic to retainers and night guards causing yeast build up. I figured that the mouthwash would help with the problem because it contained hydrogen peroxide which is what I would use to treat it anyhow.

I kept rinsing and it was getting worse. Figuring it was just due to stress and thrush, I went to the doctor for medication. The doctor then told me it looks nothing like thrush and he was surprised that it felt the same. I said it did at first but now it is way worse, my skin was peeling off. He did treat me for thrush just to rule it out but it had been a day and half and had only gotten worse. I began to do more research to figure out what is going on, worried it might be a more serious problem while still rinsing. I found two days ago that people were having extreme reactions to the Optic White dental care line and stopped rinsing.

Though my mouth is still peeling and sore, it is way better and I have no doubt that it is only due to the mouthwash. I found the taste and whitening results to be amazing, but the fact that it raped my mouth and caused me to end up at the doctor's and on a prescription is just bad. I also used half the amount to rinse with each time because I am barely 5 feet short and a small-framed person. I could only imagine what would have happened if I used the full amount each time. Having only heard of people using samples of this product and sticking to their normal stuff, I had nothing to go off on but try it myself. My suggestion is to put a warning on the label in huge lettering so people know the terrible side effects. It does what it says, just causes extreme pain and issues while doing so.

I was also told to buy Eucerine cream (not lotion) and coat my lips and inside of my lips with it. It evidently has a healing component better than Chapstick.

Well, needless to say, it's working. I suffered for a week and it got progressively worse to where I wanted to bite my tongue and lips right off they itched and hurt so bad. It's been two days and I'm finally doing better. My dentist told me to throw away the toothpaste, toothbrush, and that it's made in Mexico so the standards are not the same. I used Colgate Optic White Toothpaste for 3 days and experienced a sharp pain in my front lower tooth. This was in a tooth that I was getting ready to get repaired and wanted to whiten them so they would match up at the dentist. I ended up going to the ER 5 times with 5 antibiotics that did not work at all. The pain was debilitating and I could not take care of my 6 kids. The more times I went to the hospital, the less pain medication they gave me like I was a pill popper. I have never felt so helpless in my life. I cried for weeks. I will get my student loans next month and plan to get my tooth fixed. I have pictures of my temple where the pain pulsated so bad my veins were bulging. I never would have thought a toothpaste could make me lose a month of my life. This was like poison.

I should have known better when after the first use, my mouth and lips were tingling and had a slight burning sensation. I was thinking okay, the whitening ingredient must be working. I also have acquired a blister in the mouth out of nowhere. I won't be using this product ever again. It has also turned my lips from a healthy pink to brownish on the edges. What in the world! I hate it. I can't believe with all of these complaints that this product is still on the market. Buyer beware! Back to Crest I go. I hope my lips recover soon. It is a painful lesson to learn.

My mother has lost 3 teeth in the first couple of months.
