    My entire experience was exceptional. All the representatives I spoke to were really great. We were so excited about the package that we signed up for especially since we received a really good deal on the sports package. Unfortunately, we found out that our apartment complex wouldn't allow any additional services needed for installation. Sadly, we had to cancel because of this.     I explained to https://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/ the rep from the DirecTV office of the president that I was moving to a home in a development which has a contract with a competitor. I will be paying for my TV service as part of my Home Owners Association fees which means it would be ridiculous for me to pay for DirecTV too. Amy and Mehmet still elected to charge me $220 early cancellation fee (but did waive half of it). And, they also told me they don't take down the dish from my second floor roof (It's mine... What a gift) so I have to pay to have someone take that down too. Disliking DirecTV and AT&T.

    Was billed for a number of items that had been cancelled or not ordered. It started when I called for service to add a new TV to our account and I was led to believe by sales that wireless minis everywhere were required in order to use RFID and not have wires. The wireless minis still have wires and are not required for RFID as explained by the installer who came out so he called to cancel the 2 added minis. This cancellation was confirmed by me on the phone at the time. This and an additional premium channel (???) were added to our account on the next bill so I called to have the bill corrected.

    I spent 1 and a half hours on the phone with 2 different service reps. At the end of the call I was assured that all was resolved. I spent probably 1.25 hours of this time on hold. That was a bad enough experience. I then checked our bill and found that the items were not credited back so I had to call again. I was once again placed on hold for 25 minutes by the first service rep who told me that she was looking into what I told her. She finally came back and told me that I needed to speak with a different service department. She then asked me if I would hold for a transfer and I said "No, I wanted to instead be transferred to someone to discontinue our service."

    She ignored this and transferred me to the other department placing me on hold and after another 3 minutes. I hung up and called back to the sales number to ask them to disconnect service. In 2 minutes they sent me to a person who was able to correct the errors in 5 minutes. I think we will cancel service as soon as all special offers expire. Working with Directv is far too painful!! We are thinking that we can just switch to Internet TV services for most of what we watch anyway and we would save about $75 per month.

    Do not use Directv as your service provider for cable television. I had awful service and my receivers were constantly going down... I had my receivers replaced twice and they still are awful! Not to mention, Directv does not disclose that if you move in the first year, they charge you! And I lost around $350 due to their nondisclosures... Sure it's in the fine print that they send you later, but who really has time to read all that crap. Directv is very deceiving and I think there are much better products out there on the market... Stay away from Directv! Bad Directv! Book Directv! Warning! Directv is awful!

    I would like to start out by stating that I have never been treated this way by any other company in my entire lifetime. I have made numerous attempts to resolve the issue with them on the phone and I get one person stating they will correct it and when I follow up with them I get some else telling that the last person was completely wrong and shouldn't have told me that.

    I called on a recorded line on 8/27/2015 and spoke with someone in regards to my bill about making arrangements to pay it. I stated on that phone call that I was not able to make payment until the end of September. To which I was told that would be fine and that I should just call in when I am able to make the payment. So I thought everything was fine. On 9/02/2015 Directv proceed to process a payment of 501.24 out of my account without my authorization. I called and asked that the money be returned to my account and stated that it was not an authorized transaction. They told me and I quote "We store all forms of customers payment information so if we need to use them at a later date we can."

    The claim that I was made aware of it when I made my payment. I was never told that any of my account information was being stored. I never gave them permission to store any of my information. I want the practice changed and I would like my money refunded to my account. If anyone else was to do that it would be considered credit card fraud and they would go to jail so I don't see why it should be any different with a company such as theirs.

It appears that every rep I talk to gives me a completely different answer or resolution to my problem.     I have been with Directv for 7 years altogether at all of my residences and can't believe they are being as slimy with me as they are and trying to steal from me. In August I found out I was moving and was not allowed to put a satellite on the house I was moving into. So I had called Directv to see what my options were. It was August 10th around 10 pm and spoke to a representative named Chelsea and even got a confirmation number from her for what she told me to do and the steps to take to get my situation taken care of. The confirmation number is **. So as I am speaking with her she told me that the technician had to come out to my new address after I'm all moved in and say he couldn't find a line of sight and make a note of that on my account.

    She was telling me this all while telling me how stupid this new requirement was by the company she works for is and telling me this is the only way to resolve this. Everything we are discussing is being recorded on their system and is proof that this should not be happening, but everything she said would not happen is, and more because I got my bill and there is all this crazy stuff on it and my bill is over $340. Also they said they were sending me a recovery box to send my receivers and my remotes back to them 2 weeks ago and it will take no longer than 3 days to receive them and I still haven't gotten anything but I received a bill with a large balance on it stating balance due immediately.

    This happening the way it is and me not receiving what they said they were sending me and everything completely different than what is going to be on that recording from August 10th is what made me file this and feel completely taken advantage of by a multi billion dollar company trying to lie, steal, and cheat their way into filling their pockets with more money from people who work very hard just to be lucky to even be able to afford some of the things in life. Thank you for your time and if you can't help me at least maybe you'll know about what's going on and what DirecTV is trying to pull with the public.

    In May 2014, I signed a contract with Verizon for internet and telephone and they hooked me up with DirecTV for the TV service. Within a month of the TV service starting, DirecTV said something about 'suspicion of fraud' and 'unbundled' me from Verizon thus pushing up my monthly costs. No further explanations were forthcoming. After two weeks of 'phone calls, they admitted their mistake and 'rebundled' me. A month later the same thing happened - 'unbundled', increased monthly costs and no explanations whatsoever. If I had not reviewed their bill closely, (and believe me they have deliberately made the bill so complicated so that no one can make head or tail of it - in fact even their own billing staff could not understand the bill!!), I would not have spotted the 'unbundling'.

    Verizon and DirecTV refused to talk to one another to resolve this issue - so it was left to me to make the link between the two companies - I have lost track of the number of telephone calls I made and the amount of time spent negotiating their stupid automated call systems. In the end, after another week of calls, they 'rebundled' me. Then 12 months after the start of the contract, all the 'special offers' and 'special discounts' stopped and the cost increased dramatically. They failed to inform me that this would happen. I called them and downgraded to their cheapest package -- as I was stuck with them for 2 years.

    They gave me a credit and asked me to apply it to my next Verizon/DirecTV combined bill. The credit was not applied and Verizon has accused me of under payment. They then sent me a threatening letter (e-mail) threatening to suspend our service! I have had no choice but to absorb all the costs of their incompetence myself and pay them what they want - in other words they have applied threats and extortion. This level of appalling service from both Verizon and DirecTV has been going on for 14 months and I expect it will continue for the remainder of the contract. They were initially reluctant to give me any mailing addresses for me to write a letter of complaint but I managed to obtain addresses for both the Verizon CEO and the DirecTV 'President'. I am now awaiting their responses before I take the matter further.

    The bundle with Verizon was not properly discussed and had to do a reschedule! The problem with Direct was I was told someone would be here between 8 and 12 and it was 3 pm! Didn't get a phone call! I had to call DirecTV to see where tech was! Poorly handled. I work night shift so I was up that whole time. With the bundle, the person who setup the order never asked if I wanted to keep my same # thus causing an issue with Verizon. I then had to keep my connection with Comcast also to keep a phone Thus causing billing issues.

    I recently cancelled my DirecTV account after 10 years of satisfactory service. I wanted internet service, and it became available from a cable company in my rural area. After returning the boxes to DirecTV as requested and paying the final bill, I just received a bill for 337 dollars for ** allegedly rented 7 years ago. Apparently when switching to HD boxes, it became possible to purchase these PPV by using the remote and bypassing my cellphone/password. I frequently watched PPV movies by texting on my cell phone. These legitimate charges show up monthly on my bill. I have now found many websites dedicated to the sneaky tactics employed by DirecTV. I plan to spend my time informing my friends, neighbors, and relatives of this swindle.

    I was originally pretty excited about DirecTV. We moved into a new house and there was already a DirecTV dish, and since I had already been an AT&T U-verse customer for two years was excited to try DirecTV out. Initial signup was easy; selected the plan and installation options, put in my contact and credit information, paid the $99 signup fee, and booked an installation for the next week, the Saturday of a long weekend. The installation window was a four-hour block, from 8am to noon.

    When Saturday came, and the installer hadn't shown up, I called. Two different agents gave me another number to call and couldn't/wouldn't provide any information. Finally a supervisor was able to tell me that the installation had been automatically flagged by the account verification team and the installation had been cancelled, and that the verification team would not be available until Tuesday (3 days away).

    After some frantic googling, I was able to find an alternate contact number for the account verification team. They simply confirmed my birth date and address and then took the flag off the account. When I asked why no one had contacted me throughout the week, early enough to resolve it before the installation, she verbally shrugged and said "Should have automatically called you" and that was it.

    I had to call back to have the Installation group try and send the installer back out. By this time, they had helpfully scheduled me for an appointment two weeks in the future, which was "the next available appointment". Over and over I explained that I had an appointment that day and had been waiting all day for the installer's arrival. Each time, they would put me on hold for 5-10 mins and then tell me my order had been escalated with the local dispatcher and they would call within the hour. That went on throughout the day, with me calling after each hour and saying I hadn't been contacted, and they would put me on hold again, then say it was "prioritized" and I would be called within the hour.

    Finally, at 6pm after having waited 10 hours for an installer to show, and on hold one final time, I hopped onto the Dish site. In the time I was on hold with DirecTV, I was able to order new service and was able to schedule it for the following Monday (1 day away, and a holiday no less). The next afternoon I called DirecTV back to get my install cancelled. Another few cut-offs, another few blank on-holds (where the music disappears), and 30 mins and 4 agents before someone could cancel my appointment, which for some reason you can't do online.

    I gather they want you to talk to an agent to have the opportunity to convince you to stay, but the agents I talked to about it were as resigned to the process as I was. I never did hear back from the installer. A thoroughly awful experience for the most simple setup. I shudder to think of how bad it would have been if I had an actual account with them and was trying to get help. I gather from reading old reviews that DirecTV used to be OK. I guess it didn't take long for the AT&T to rub off on them.

    We have 6 TVs. Mini genies in each addition room means an addition $32.50 a month. I ordered the Genie and 1 Genie mini. I do not need all of the bells and whistles for the other 4 TVs. One TV is in the kitchen, 2 are in spare bedrooms for occasional grandkids that watch cartoons or a DVD before bed and rare overnight guests. The last TV is in half finished basement. I want just regular TV for those 4 sites. I was advised only Genie Minis are available. That is $26.00 monthly that I do not need or use. Secondly, my telephone service area cannot be bundled for a landline and internet service with DirecTV. If I break up my cable package I will be paying very high rates for phone and internet. I also priced Frontier for phone and internet. They are still DSL. We are trapped by our geographic locale and the local cable co.

    I wish DirecTV didn't always want or need surveys done. I understand that it helps them understand by their customers' comments where they could improve their jobs better. But if and when I have a problem I call to talk with someone, if you were to record the phone call you would be able to see what is going on from both parties on the call, and then you would hear how your employees hang up on your customers when they don't want to deal with the problem you're calling about.

    I had a horrible experience with my install. Took off work. Installer couldn't do what I was told on the phone, unless I paid extra $99. Then the ensuing failure to get me rescheduled in a timely manner. I've spent 4-6 hours on the phone much of it on hold, being passed through different departments. One time I was on hold for 20 mins before I was hung up on after... "Have you talked to a supervisor?" Me: "I was sent here by a supervisor"... Click. Hung up on me. My online account didn't work for the first week and the streaming sports they offer are sports movies. Just one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had.

    I signed up for DirecTV. The lady asked me, "To better serve you and give you what you need no more or less we would like to know what you watch." I said, "Well, I have children, so I want all the kids channels and I only watch Fox News and enjoy movies from On Demand", plus I have an HD TV so I'll need a receiver that supports HD, so she signed me up to get an installation and when I went to watch on demand I couldn't! So I call DirecTV and they said I can't watch On Demand because I don't have an HD DVR! I said "well why not? I signed up for On Demand." She said I signed for the HD Box "when the tech installed your services". I said "yeah, because I don't know what equipment I need to watch on demand!" She said "I couldn't get a tech to come back out and give me the dvr box". I said "why, they didn't give me what I asked for?"

    She transferred me to so many people only to get me so upset I wanted to cancel service with them and they said even though this was within 3 days of activation, I would be charged for an early termination fees of over $400. I was furious. So, they said they will give me a credit to get a dvr for a discounted price of $100, and here we are 30 days into having DirecTV and they can't or won't give me the discounted rate for the dvr. They want like $259 to come out and hook me up with a DVR. I hate DirecTV. I think they are thugs of the satellite services. I'm going to buy a dvr out right somewhere and hook it up myself and see if they'll at least send me a card to be able to use the thing. I really hate DirecTV's customer service. I'm going to stay with them for 2 yrs and I'll never go back to them ever. They've burnt this bridge.

    We stayed with DirecTV when we moved solely because the "movers deal" would save use $$. Free equipment upgrade, no transfer fees. After moving we received a bill with two separate protection plans added to our bill (Never asked for nor were we told they would be added) and the equipment upgrade "set up" fee which was suppose to be free and is still being advertised on their recorded advertising when you're on hold. After being on hold for 15 mins 1st person helped with protection plan charges. I was told. Had to speak to 2 other separate people about the setup charge and I also wanted to change my package. After being on hold for 1hour and 10 mins the second person changed my package then tried to sell me more stuff at which time I said absolutely not after waiting over an hour.

    Transferred again after another five mins to the movers dept. Explained we were charged for it a service was suppose to be free. She apologized and said it was a mistake but billing dept would have to remove it. Transfer again. Phone just rang about 15 times. This person said she couldn't see my notes on the account and couldn't do anything about the charge. End result I will never recommend them. Do NOT sign up for anything because you will never last their hold times OR you do and they dismiss you. The price you pay for the service. Once they sign you up you're screwed.

    Throughout the entire time we had DirecTV I had problems with connecting to the internet. Several Friday nights, which is my movie and popcorn night, I was unable to watch a movie because it would not connect. I would rest our internet, even though I was receiving a connection to the internet on my laptop, but still it would not connect. I called them several times, and they would say "Nothing is wrong. Call your Internet provider." But I was able to connect other things to the Internet fine. I then switched to another provider and received a hefty disconnect charge of which I could not pay all at once, so I told them I would have to make payments. They said that was fine. A week or so went by, and all of a sudden there was like a $465 charge on my bank account. I was furious, but they said the contract said they could do that and would not refund my account, causing me to have over $200 worth of overdrafts!! I would not recommend using DirecTV.

    I am currently a DirecTV customer but have tried to cancel service since the 2nd day. I was told if I cancel they would impose a 480.00 fee on my account because I did not cancel within 24 hours. I explained that I was under the impression that the two year contract wasn't in effect anymore... but found it wasn't when it was too late to cancel.     8/31 DirecTV installed - Techs came out to install and now tell me they cannot run lines along with existing lines, I must pay extra 99.00 for wireless Genie's. After discussion with techs and service already completed and turned on the techs tell me - "the on demand may not work as it requires the internet" and Comcast internet, which is the only one that works in our area, may not work well with the on demand. At that point they should have said "if you are not happy with this you have 24 hrs. to cancel the service."

    I called at 6:00 am this morning 9/3/15 to cancel the service and was told the problem is not their problem but the internet provider and they are not required to give me the information about their on demand which would have kept me from requesting service with this provider. So now less than 2 1/2 days into this service, it would cost me $460.00 to get out of the contract. Is there any help, I am a senior on a very limited income and somehow this feels like a major wrong.

    I have a paper trail going back months with communication with DirecTV asking them to fix the very poor reception we had been experiencing for months. I was assured it would be fixed promptly but they never did anything but continue to charge us our monthly bill, which has tripled since we signed up with them in 2010. From the beginning of my contact with their service department I made it very clear that we could not watch the TV because the reception was so bad and that we would not be paying them the monthly bill until we could watch the TV.     I was not aware when I signed the New Customer Sales Order on 8/29/2015 that the DirecTV equipment "must be directly connected to the same land-based telephone line." Also, it is stated in the agreement that DirecTV can use my landline phone to contact me for messaging and also, can use auto dialing devices to ring my phone, etc. You may have no idea how frequent and annoying sales calls and other unwanted telephone calls from unknown callers (callers with whom I have never had any business transactions) are, and signing up on the Federal Do Not Call service does not seem to be of any help at all. This is the reason I canceled the sales order. Otherwise, DirecTV in Costco was a very good experience and the sales order was a terrific deal.

    I was talking with 'Raul' a promotions specialist. He speaks 100 mph - which is typical sales - hate it. He told me twice that ALL equipment and installation was completely free. Then we started talking about the package and here comes the other shoe. First, there's a 'One Time Processing Fee' of $33.00. This is to ship the 'free equipment' from Sony to me (I guess, or to them). Then there is the equipment 'rental fees and taxes'. I never asked how much the rental fees are because he told me the 'equipment was completely free'. So I questioned him about this. Wanted to know why he told me it was 'free' when there's a rental fee?

    He used an analogy "If I gave you a car you would still have to pay for gas right?" - is he kidding me? So I told him if he gave me the car I would own the car so I would pay for my own gas. I asked him if DirecTV was 'giving' me the equipment. He told me "No. It's $1000 worth of equipment that I would have no use for without DirecTV service" so basically nothing is free. I am renting the equipment just like I do with Optimum. Then taxes, fees etc. Total savings is very limited. Not interested.

    To make a story of 6 weeks of hell short... Back in June of 2015, I cancelled my DirecTV service because I had accepted a job overseas. 7 days before I left, my current job offered me a promotion so I stayed. At that point, I had already sold my residence, and cancelled all services to the house. I had 48 hours to find a house to live in. I moved into a nearby community that has an HOA. The HOA does not contract with DirecTV.

    I went 45 days without internet or satellite TV of any kind, just trying to move, and get connected with power, internet service and TV service. I am now being charged 135.37 because I am leaving my contract 6 months early, even though I have been a customer for 7 years and NEVER EVER skipped a payment. How is this even possible? I am being charged early cancellation? I am supposed to pay for something that I am not and have not been receiving? I have called again and again. I get put on hold forever, then transferred to different departments.

    After being on the phone for almost an hour again tonight, I finally talked with a billing supervisor. He then lied and told me that he could not waive the fees. Every other person I talked to said that he had the choice as to whether or not he could waive fees. This corporation does not care about their loyal customers. The only thing they care about is corporate GREED. I will not stop until I am heard. I have returned all the equipment they required me to return. I do not believe I owe this amount of money.

After a couple of other calls no response so I canceled order. On Mon 8/31/2015 Dish is installing now with no issues. I have DirecTV at my house in Temple and will be switching it to Dish also. I have been a DirecTV customer since 2008 but they are now on my jack in the box list which means that I will not be a DirecTV customer again.

    I have been a loyal Directv customer since 1999, I started with Directv when you could go to Walmart and buy all your Directv equipment, that's what I did. I bought my dish and receivers, installed them myself, and then over the course of 16 years moved 6 times, reinstalled my Directv equipment each time I moved. Now that Directv offers more HD channels I decided to upgrade, when I upgraded I wanted to install the equipment myself, which over the course of 16 years and moving 6 times I think I have the ability to install, I was told I would have to have a technician install it. I agreed. Over the course of a week I continued request an install date, each time I was met with "we have no dates available". Finally after a week I was given the only times available, I had to take a day off work to wait for the technician to install the HD equipment.

    After waiting all day on the agreed upon install, at the end of the day the technician arrived, when I started a conversation about the install, he stated all that is on my work order is to install the receivers, I said "how could I use the receivers without the new dish needed to receive the HD signal". He finally informed me he did not have the dish, he would have to get one, then he said he had the mount but would need to leave the old mount in the roof. At this point I was upset and told him to just leave.

    I called Directv and complained about a technician showing up at the last minute and not having all the equipment he needed for the install, the customer service representative asked what he could do to make me happy, I said "ship me the equipment needed and allow me to install it myself". He said that was not possible.

    So I said "then my order needs to be cancelled as well as cancelling my service altogether". I said "after this I do not want to be a Directv customer any longer", so after over 16 years of being a customer I cancelled.

    I want to add another TV in another room. When we first signed up for DirecTV I was told I could add additional TV at any time. Now, since AT&T acquired them, I have to sign a new 2 year contract and pay $179 for an additional Mini Receiver. Asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that the supervisor was unavailable. So now it is back to Time Warner. My contract is over and I do not need to commit another two years to DirecTV for a mini receiver. Another monopoly is being formed. I thought we broke up AT&T in 1984 for this very reason.

    We are now into our second DirecTV replacement box. We suffer constant freezing and pixelation of recorded shows. Both times DirecTV determined that their box which they owned failed. Each time they have agreed that the only way for us to get the quality programming they promise is to replace our box. Okay. So far so good. They replace the box for free. So far so good. But, now the Catch 22. They insist that a service tech come out, and regardless of the problem, we have to pay $49 for that, or else instead pay $7 per month or $84 a year for a service contract. Thus, we are out $100 in repair costs for our two replacements (or we would have been out $168 in two years’ worth of service plan payments).

    DirecTV refuses to guarantee that their boxes actually work as advertised at no extra charge!!! Seriously! I advise every TV subscriber to talk to the cable or satellite provider about this hidden cost nonsense. The salesman will tell you, "We replace our equipment at no charge if it has a problem." and that would be untrue. The box is free, but to hand you the replacement costs $49 each time, or $84 a year for the plan. Sneaky. It’s sort of like AT&T billing me for replacing my telephone pole if it becomes defective and telling me the pole is free, but to stick it in the ground will cost me a bundle.

    I decided to return to DirecTV after being with dish for five years. Everything was going as planned. Tech called said he was on way to install in which I took day from work for. He arrived during time period. He got out his device to pinpoint satellite in sky to know where to place dish at. Said it was malfunctioning and did not want to drill a 100 holes in roof trying to pinpoint best signal. He said he was going to go to another tech on another job and get their digital reader and return within hour. Hour passed. Tried contacting leaving voicemails. No return so I waited till two hours passed. Contacted DirecTV direct.

    They then informed tech canceled installation due to obstruction of trees. Wow I was pinged back and forth between reps and supervisors retelling my story. The best they could do was apologize and schedule another installation after 4 more days. And given first month free! I'm beyond upset with the all around turnout of this. This company is a joke. I spent 3 1/2 hours on phone trying to get answers and satisfaction yet I'm left questioning why I ever wanted to leave Dish to go with DirecTV After wasting a day's pay on. This is highly unacceptable and I will never recommend DirecTV to anyone unless they want to waste time and frustration.

    I was approached at Sam's Club by your rep to let him compare my Dish service to DirecTV. I hate hard-sell tactics at Sam's Club but have frequently encountered it there. I work for AT&T so I let the guy talk and after determining that my favorite programming was included, especially Fox Sports Mid-West, I agreed to order service. Later at home, I read all the paperwork the salesman gave me and I saw no mention of local programming or Fox Sports Mid-West channel 671. I called 877-758-4346. The nice lady there told me I did get local programming but not 671. She advised me to call 800-531-5000. I talked to William and he was finally able to amend the order to include channel 671. Including the initial ordering process, the time involved exceeded my last income tax preparation. You have nice people, but your processes are cumbersome.

    For about 2 months I have tried to get my problem resolved. Well it is still not fixed!!! Every time I want to watch TV, I turn on the Genie and my TV with the remote; I now have to press the on button on the remote, then my TV shows no signal. The only solution is to crawl on the floor to the DirecTV Genie Box and press the Red Reset Button. Now I'm told it's my problem that since DirecTV made a Software change, now I must fix my TV.
