Terrible organization for FSA. They will deny receipts for medical payments after accepting them many other times. If your org uses WageWorks for any elective benefit, DO NOT SIGN UP. This place is evil. Site is offline a lot. Very helpful for dodging support and hiding ability to make claims.

I try to pay my dental insurance bill and couldn't when I spoke to a representative, she wasn't knowledgeable. Now I tried again after the grace period and because of late payment my account was shut down. They shut down my account five days after deadline, I'm appealing and I'm having medical procedures and they can't make a decision for 30 days, this prevents me from procedures and being covered.

My company had a transition where they were covering the Cobra payments. The health insurance was paid. There was no information that dental had to be paid as well for them to notify the health insurance they received their money. Okay, maybe this on the work's side as far as communication. But this is where I get frustrated. The insurance company is more than willing to assist me as it has now been over two weeks. WageWorks recognizes that all payments have been made and that the information has been sent to the insurance company. The insurance company has not received it.
Wageworks refuses to resend the information. Absolutely refuses. Stating it will take 7-10 business days. 7-10 business days for the insurance company to receive an email that was supposedly already sent? That makes no sense and then to refuse to resend it. Even the insurance company was confused about that answer, stating that if anything, they would be ones who need that processing time. Absolutely would never recommend working with WageWorks. They have no interest in helping their consumers and just say, well that's how long.

I must agree with everyone. This company is awful. When my card is denied and must file a receipt, they want you to fax (yes fax, who faxes anymore) a form and receipt. I found an email to use instead of fax. The email works, I think, but goes to some black hole never to be found. So far I’ve spent two weeks trying to be reimbursed $15. Hopefully your company doesn’t use WageWorks.

I applied for COBRA through WageWorks and used their online portal on a Saturday. It was not clear that the premium payment was due before they would start doing any work - the website indicated that my payment would be due later; however, I can accept that I may have missed it. I called their offices on Monday morning and paid the premium (payment was verified by the representative on the phone). The representative then told me that it would take 3-4 days for my insurance to be active. I planned accordingly and scheduled my emergency dental service for the end of the week in line with what I was told. On Wednesday, the dental office let me know they still could not confirm my insurance so I called Anthem. Anthem was great - they checked their billing department and had not received any paperwork. Anthem then 3-way called WageWorks to find out what the status of my activation paperwork was.
Here's where I get frustrated - the WageWork rep now tells me that it takes 7-10 business days for them to process my application and payment. So my emergency dental work has to be delayed for another 10 calendar days. The information I am receiving is not consistent and the only "help" they could offer me is to pay out of pocket first and get reimbursed by insurance later, which is not feasible for a several thousand dollar procedure. I am in pain and beyond frustrated at the lack of consistency, slow process, and poor communication from WageWorks. If this is how they operate for something as simple as sending a letter to an insurance company to activate benefits, I would not recommend any of their services to anyone.

I have a Health Care FSA account that is run through WageWorks. I had a problem using the card and went to use the online chat. The chat couldn't resolve the problem and asked me to call 877-924-3957 to resolve the problem. That phone number would keep trying to sign me up for a "free medical alert service and device", and not provide me customer service help. I hung up and tried again thinking I had misdialed but it was the same. I subsequently realized that Wageworks number is 877-924-3967 (NOT 3957), which is 877-WAGEWORKS. So now I am wondering, why is Wageworks giving me a WRONG phone number on their own chat site? And why is that wrong number linked to signing people up for a medical alert system thinking that they have called WageWorks? Or did the other site figure out that Wageworks had given a wrong number and set up their own site to take advantage of it.
Either way, this is an abysmal performance by a company who continues to issue cards that are called "Debit Cards", tells people to use them as credit cards, has repeated problems with institutions not accepting them as credit cards, and does not even provide an easy way to set up a PIN that one can remember to use it as a debit card without getting redirected to a scam site signing you up for a medical alert device.

Now that I want to simply close my account, they are charging me an additional $25. For what exactly?? The tax benefit is not worth it when their fees just keep adding up.

Large private companies need to cut ties with this terrible company. Customer service has no idea what they’re talking about and often give you answers just to appease you and get you off the line. You send in receipts and they process on transaction, and then say they don’t have the receipt for the other transaction. Meanwhile the receipt was submitted twice, once for each transaction. They process one and tell me the file is corrupt for the other one and to resubmit. They’re incredibly inconsistent and disorganized.
For a long time, they had chip issues for OMNY (transportation) and kept blaming OMNY and finally sent out new cards. I sent in receipts to reimburse all the transportation I used when their card was failing and that never got address. Again, customer service does not address anything and blames it on anything when you know right then it logically doesn’t make sense. Example: issue with receipt they say they didn’t get, then they see I submitted a receipt today so they tell me to give it time to process. I tell them today's receipt was for another transaction, not the one we are discussing. This company is truly the worst for consumers and should be shut down.

The customer care person placed another order for the card and once again said it would come in 14 days. The card never came and I do not know what to do. There must be a price for such negligence. Despite the clear purpose of the HSA credit card – to facilitate seamless payment for medical services such as doctor's co-payments, dentist visits, and prescription medications – I have repeatedly faced unnecessary hurdles. Wageworks routinely denies payment requests, often without providing any explanation, forcing me into a frustrating cycle of submission, complaint, and resubmission. This pattern of behavior from Wageworks not only disrupts my access to essential funds but also suggests a systemic issue that prioritizes bureaucratic procedures over the needs of consumers. It appears that Wageworks is purposefully rejecting claims and creating unnecessary barriers to accessing funds, actions that are decidedly anti-consumer and contrary to the principles of customer service.

It wasn't until today that I decided to look up reviews for this horrid company to find I'm not the only one to have issues. HealthEquity and Wage Works administer an FSA for my former employer. Every single submission -- all of which were valid (dental, primary care, vision) -- was denied every time. Reimbursement was the only option; the card was completely useless. In addition, at the end of the contract (for me; I moved on to other employment), a legitimate submission for dental was ignored for weeks despite the balance which covered the full amount. I ultimately had to involve leadership at the previous job to intervene and even then it was no easy task for them, either. The customer service folks at HE/WW are very nice but with long wait times and little information or hope from their end, it's an utter waste of time to even call.

This is by far the worst FSA provider I have ever experienced. Nearly every single medical visit they deny claims until you provide a detailed service receipt even though the activity clearly stems from a clinic, dentist, medical center, optometrist, etc. Then when you submit receipts they deny many of the claims stating they want every detail of what services were provided and state the providers don't use federal tax coding for services, so the medical providers are the issue.
In general, this is my money, claims from the debit card are clearly coming from medical centers, and I have never EVER signed or approved anything in regards to their random employees having access to my PHI. When I contact customer service they are of little to no help and just keep requesting more detailed receipts to approve the distribution of MY MONEY. I've had multiple times had to submit over 3x, calling providers to send me more and more detailed receipts just to get items cleared in my account. Even having to send explanation of benefits. But buying random supplies at Walgreens .. no issue. Very frustrating company. There are better out there! Employers, please do your research. The only reason I'm giving them 1 star is their website is well put together and it's easy to use, which is good, because the customers are constantly having to be on it...

What is worse, they have continued to take monthly fees from our bank account for 7 months after our contract ended and you cannot get a response from anyone. I called and spoke with a representative spring 2023 on the day that I thought was the deadline to submit reimbursement for out of pocket expenses through my FSA that I had paid $2400 into over 2022. After I was helped to access my account I was told in no uncertain terms that the deadline for submitting reimbursement had just recently been extended through the end of the summer due to something to do with the pandemic legislation. I was relieved as I needed to finish my work day rather than spend it submitting multiple reimbursement claims.
On accessing my account again today and again speaking with a representative on the phone I was informed that the extension was not universal legislation and that my deadline for reimbursement HAD actually been the original day that I called on. Whether the customer service rep was poorly informed or they were INTENTIONALLY misleading me so I would not go ahead submit my claims is not clear, but one way or another, based on information provided by the phone customer service representative I have now lost $2400 of my money that I had diverted from my paychecks into my FSA in 2022 which now they keep as revenue.

This is the WORST managed HSA I have ever encountered. Imagine putting your own funds into an account for legitimate medical/dental expenses, and then having almost every claim from qualified providers summarily denied upon submission. This is the business model of this "service" company. They have you jump through hoops for qualified claims and then tell you that you can buy such items as suntan lotion with the few remaining funds. Apparently suntan lotion is a safer bet than dental fillings or crowns, or one's prescription eyeglasses. Avoid if possible, if not, speak to your Benefits Department at work if they are receptive. There MUST be a better alternative than dealing with minor factotums denying benefits out of hand.

I rarely ever write a review but felt compelled to do so. And in reviewing the other feedback, I now see that my experience (and former employees’ experience) is consistent with many others. I previously worked for a large law firm as the HR Mgr and often received complaints about Wageworks and their poor customer service. I left that position and have $300 in a transportation account, which has been there since last summer. I‘ve emailed them numerous times in the past 8 months requesting that they let me know my options and process a reimbursement as taxable income or send me the funds and a 1099 to account for the need to pay taxes on the money. I have only received one response from them and not one response to several emails in the past 3 months.
I’ve even requested that my request be pushed to a supervisor. Still no response. I honestly don’t understand how they remain in business. If you do not respond to emails, remove that as an option. In my next position, if Wageworks is the vendor handing the FSA and/or transportation, I will be changing vendors as quickly as possible as I will not allow employees to have to receive such poor service. I’ve now witnessed it and it’s even worse than I perceived it to be.

They're still living in 1900! They never heard of computer or emails seriously!).
I needed them around Jan 25 because my daughter was complaining about her ears and again insurance is still not active. I paid $860 and if you call their support, they don't care even if you're seriously in need of medical help for them to call the insurance and inform them about your cobra (since this is what the insurance suggested to us). With my previous employer I was the contact person with them and had bad experience. I was really hoping they had gotten better. Unfortunately, it was the opposite. They made a mistake and reversed my Transit and my Parking funds. For 2 years, I called hundreds of time, trying to have this fixed. And obviously during that time I did not use any of the benefits, since cards did not work as supposed. After 2 years, my employer decided to terminate the contract, and I called WageWorks immediately to inquire what happens to my funds. I was told I have 90 days to used those. At that point my funds were still not reversed, so I could not use them.
I had to call 5 more times to make sure this happens. Eventually, I was told all is fine, but will take effect on the 1st next month (that was when the contract terminated, but I was Ok since I believed I still had 90 days). I received a confirmation letter about the 90 days. To my surprise, 1st came and my card still did not work. Another round of countless calls and waits.....Receiving different answer every time...And if I requested a supervisor, I was told they are not available... And most importantly, I was suddenly told my funds are forfeited???!! Because I did not have 90 days....I am not even telling further...You get the picture...
Somehow, I found an address for some complaint commission with this company. No number, so I wrote a detailed letter. I almost gave up, but they did call. The lady I spoke to, was quite arrogant informing me I have lost my $213 and there is nothing I can do. I did not have 90 days and that is it. When I pointed out it was not my fault they did not fix their own mistake..She tried to convince me it was my mistake!?!? At that point I was speechless. After seeing the 1.8 star rating for WageWorks I feel a bit better. I thought it was just my personal experience with them. I have used FSA for almost 25 years for my family. I joined a new company last year and have to use Wage Works for the first time. It has never been harder to get to my own money! How does this business model work? Just like cable and phone companies, they make it extremely hard to use. However, it is much easier to downgrade your cable package than to get your account unlocked for a $3 receipt.
The signup process is the most cumbersome and slowest I have ever experienced. I had to request a code and it takes long to come in. Then they add a very short timer on this process so you probably have to repeat it a few times before you finally get it right. You can open 5 bank accounts in the same time of opening an FSA account at WageWorks (again, to get to your own money).
Second, why do you need a login and a separate pin code every single time you open the app on your phone? This is not a swiss bank account with $5 billion dollars in it. It is another way to discourage to reimburse your money. Just like other customers are experiencing, claims are denied (and your account frozen) even if you literally provide all the requested information. No feedback, nothing. Just go back online to check the status, hopefully you forget about it! Then try to get someone on the phone to help you.
They now merged with HealthEquity, the new site isn't much better. You'll have to sign up all over again and it is just as cumbersome. For example, if you have all information from the employer, why do you ask me to fill in a work zip code again? It is small thing but it shows how they're out of touch. The FSA store is another thing where you need to sign up for. I was out of time (it literally took 1.5 hours) and out of patience to try this. I think it is terrible that companies that are getting paid to provide a service are doing the opposite.

On November 28, 2021, I made my payment of $748.20 for December 2021; however, as of December 14, 2021, this Company is showing me, as having not coverage, after they cashed my check (ACH). They then try to blame my lack of coverage on my former employer.
This is not a Company that you want to do business with, they keep you on hold for extremely long periods of time (1 hour or more). The employees are not properly trained and will tell you anything to get you off the phone. I am scheduled to have a procedure done in a few days and I am scrambling to get this issue rectified with little or no help from WageWorks. If you have a choice, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

All of the claims were for items/services on the list of approved items/services. I included the requested documentation. Yet, all of my claims were denied without explanation. No response yet to requests for an explanation. I am concerned I will lose a couple hundred dollars as a result of this scam. I'm also annoyed by the time I've spent thinking about this and working to try to get a response/utilize the money that was withdrawn from my paycheck. If they approve my claims and I'm able to use the money in my fund, I can update this review. As of right now, it's looking like this is a scam. It blows my mind that my workplace promoted this. If nothing else, I'm hoping others read reviews before opting in and are forewarned.

Don't do it. Don't utilize a FSA ever! WageWorks' only game is to deny all claims to keep your money. I provided receipts for everything and they would still find a reason to deny. Even eyeglasses are WITH a receipt from the doctors office. Then asked for prescriptions, details and more details. Hospital receipts are denied, surgery receipts are denied, then they ask for invoices detailing what every little charge is for from the hospital which (to me) to a violation of my privacy. Who knows who these people are reading my personal information! Their only game is to KEEP your money.

Majority of these comments about Wageworks are almost identical....I'll be as brief as possible because it's sad to see this. So many people being taken by these crooks. I had a HSA card with money on it that I had earned for doing pro self health types of initiatives that my job offered to employees. Now to make a long story short the card expired. My job informed us they no longer using that HSA card anymore...Ok so what happens to my $1515 I still had on my card. I called Wageworks. Tried to explain the situation and that I wanted my money. "Send a check if you have to."
They say they couldn't send me another card. "I had medical bills I could not pay with the card" I told them. After calling several times and speaking with several different people. Listening to one lie after the next. No one seems to know what they where talking about but trying to sell it to me as if they know what they are doing. So I'm told go to their website, register and fill out a form called make a payment "Something". "But first you must pay the bill yourself." So this has to be done every single time I want to use my $1515 dollars. This is just a tactic to discourage people from trying to get their money back off these useless cards....Just imagine the number of employees who still have money left on these cards and could not get access to it....
Wageworks is reaping all the leftover money from hardworking people who has earned this money and now can not get it. Wageworks giving people all the phony excuses and making it impossible and very difficult to receive our money. Beginning in October 2020, without fail I have been paying WageWorks over $600 per month ON TIME directly from my bank account via electronic check.
In the midst of all this I got married and had a legal name and home address change. I submitted my name and address change to WageWorks in February 2021. WageWorks subsequently REJECTED MY PAYMENT for the month of February by returning the check to me in U.S. mail without any defined explanation. The accompanying letter (undated I might add) provided 5 bullet points with a sort of "pick one of these reasons and maybe it applies to you" type scenario. I promptly called the WageWorks toll free number and couldn't get any of the automatic options to work because THEY CANCELLED MY ACCOUNT!!!
Upon finally reaching a supervisor at this incredibly incompetent and useless company, I was told in no uncertain terms that in order to have my account reinstated I would have to prove to them that I made the February payment. REALLY???? Despite the fact that I had WageWorks documentation listing their reject item #, block #, batch #, etc. etc., they informed me they had no record of those numbers. Today's example: I took 2 hours to find and review FSA plan documents and IRS publications to prove that a rep incorrectly deemed an FSA purchase ineligible, then promptly disconnected the chat (rude). Second rep said it was eligible, but no evidence provided (but I have a screenshot).... we'll see how the claim processes. I saw Healthequity purchased Wageworks in late 2019 for $2 billion. My employer changed over to this company this year after having used Discovery Benefits for years because our COB decided it was better - but obviously just that it was cheaper to use. No interactions with them has ever been simple and happy or ended in me not being frustrated due to a complete lack of actual assistance or conclusion to my issue.
First: in regards to the FSA, I had the same issues many others have complained about. I used my card once, at a doctor's office, and it was shut down and I was never allowed to use my card again. I had to request reimbursements for each instance I wanted to use my FSA money. The card would not be reactivated. What is the point in sending us a card if you won't let anyone use it and immediately shut it down?
Second: in regards to COBRA. I was furloughed in April without benefits. The date of my furlough was one month before my baby's due date. As I had already met deductibles with my insurance that I'd had already, I decided the best option was to continue through COBRA knowing I would later have to add my child. I went to make my first payment through a Savings withdrawal, they said I couldn't do it without a check number. Why would I have a check number for my savings account? I didn't have any checks either, so the first payment was refused. I tried to set up automatic payments, they said that they couldn't set it up with my bank. So I found a package of old checks and started entering those numbers, finally it worked. But apparently, unless you have a checkbook somewhere, you can't make payments.
Third: Considering COVID-19 and everything, I looked up what I needed to add my child to my COBRA continued coverage. The website is useless, as it mostly facilitates payment and doesn't offer assistance on finding much else, so I Googled how to add my child to my insurance. I found a form on another part of their website (that isn't logged into), so after my child was born, I filled it out and sent it in. This form specifically stated a birth certificate wasn't necessary to add a dependent, just the signed form. I sent the signed form in 22 days after the birth due to recovery and having to order ink for my printer. On the 31st day after the birth, I got an update saying they received my dependent addition request, with a date 8 days prior listed before the explanation of receipt.
A week and a half later, I got a letter saying they needed the birth certificate or discharge paperwork. Well, I didn't have the discharge paperwork anymore, and with COVID, I didn't have the BC yet either. A week later, the BC arrived with a creation date 25 days after the birth and an issue date of 28 days after the birth - clear that it took a while to arrive. I sent a copy in to the same address as the form. I called my insurance later asking if my child had been added yet, they said no, but that it takes time, especially now. A month later, my pediatrician called to talk about my child's medical bill, so I called my insurance again. They said my child lost coverage the same day WageWorks said they got my addition request.
They got WageWorks on a conference call with me and they said I could upload the BC to the website because they didn't get it - but there was nowhere to upload anything, and now I'm concerned about a copy of my child's BC just floating around out there somewhere. The call got disconnected, so I called back, another CSR said I should be able to upload to the website, I said, "No, I can't, there's no way to." She was confused as well. She had me talk to a supervisor. The supervisor said I was right, there's no way to upload things, but could I fax it? No, I don't have a working phone line but I can send the BC again.
She gave me a completely different address and to add that she said my child could be added as I had originally met the timeline needed, this was just followup documentation and that the BC came much later than normal because of COVID. I did all that. A week later, after having about 5 different cases opened up for this issue, 2 of them were updated saying I was too late and didn't meet the 30-day deadline and had to appeal to my employer for assistance. I called back asking what was going on as none of this matched what I was told by a supervisor the week before. New CSR opened another case for me, said my child would be added as all the info was there and things would be fine. Got an update an hour later that my case was closed again, but no further info.
Called back up, new CSR looked it up and said I missed the 30-day window by one day because my form was postmarked on the 31st day...and not the 22nd day when I put it in the mail. I told them there was no way, I live in a completely different state and USPS has been delayed more than usual and if they updated my info on the 31st day, then that means it was postmarked long before that. They just said, "That's weird, I agree, but we can't change it, that's what our post department says it is, so it has to be done through your employer now through an appeal." I asked to speak to a supervisor again because this is RIDICULOUS and she just said, "I can't do anything."
I pointed out all the flaws in what they were telling me, she just said, "I can't do anything, it has to be done through your employer and an appeals process now." So now, I have to wait even longer to try and add my child to my insurance, during a pandemic, because WageWorks can't get their information together and are lying about dates to keep me from doing it. I just have to hope that my employer agrees with all of my proof that WageWorks is being sketchy to get my child added. This has been going on for about 2 months now.

From the get, it was frustrating - from enrolling (they took their sweet time sending the paperwork) then had issues setting up an account, then had issues trying to pay online, then they switched databases and all of the above happened again. Finally it all worked out - and I even called my insurance UHC/Oxford (end of April) to confirm coverage and they said my COBRA is in place for May - and as long as I make my monthly premiums to WW it will be fine. (NOPE) I had an appt in June to see my DR and they didn’t tell me there was an issue with my insurance.
Until July 10, I get a courtesy call from a special meds pharmacy (ordered by the DR I saw in June) to verify my RX coverage and they said my medical was terminated after speaking with UHC/Oxford. Well that put me over - I called UHC/Oxford immediately and sure enough - my account was terminated as of May 1st - WageWorks has been taking my money and not updating UHC/Oxford. I called WW and they said they would email UHC’s Eligibility Dept to expedite reinstating my account because I need my meds and have upcoming DR appts. I spent the entire day back and forth on the phone with WW, UHC/Oxford and my HR dept - NOTHING was done...

If I could give 0 stars I would. Where to begin? First, it took almost four weeks to get my wife's COBRA package from them after she retired. The package was thorough and provided many details all of which we followed closely. So far so good. They processed the payment and we were waiting for CIGNA and other services to be re-started. After two weeks, we called CIGNA and wanted to know why we weren't yet active in their system as my wife had medical appointments to attend to.
Anyone reading this review knows that if you incur medical charges out of coverage, even though the coverage was supposed to be active, it's difficult and time-consuming to get your provider paid. You often end up paying the bill and waiting for reimbursement or risk getting sent to collections if you let the bill linger. After at al least two or three phone calls to CIGNA and Wage Works, several with both companies on the line, we finally managed to get our coverage restored.
So fast forward two months and my wife is transitioning to medicare. We called WageWorks and spoke to the agents about moving my wife to medicare and me staying on COBRA through WageWorks. We download the form and completed them with them on the phone to make sure the form was completed to their specifications and send them in. Two weeks go by and we receive a package from them with my wife's cancellation notice, my approval to stay on COBRA, and a package of the new premium payments slips. All is right with the world. They did it right!
Not so fast, the day my wife transitions to medicare came and goes and we're not thinking about it much...So I get an email from my prescription med provider canceling one of my prescriptions? I go to their website and my coverage was canceled. Go to CIGNA...same thing...Go to Dental and Vision...same thing. They processed the request correctly but someone sitting on a computer somewhere failed to read the order and canceled all services with four different carriers!
Naturally, we get back on the phone with them. We explained to them exactly what happens and their associate agrees with our explanation. They get back on the phone with CIGNA eligibility and they seem to work it out but we can't be on the call. We get a call back from CIGNA telling us it's worked out and to wait 24 hours for the website to be updated. All good!
So we again call Wageworks back to try and get my Dental, Vision, and Prescription services re-instated. This rep has an attitude and tells us to listen to her...She says that a request to reinstate services went out at 1:01 PM their time. She states that this is standard op and all continuation services are canceled before they are reinstated. What gives? No one told us that? We quickly determine this is request to reinstate services that the rep is referencing is the result of our original effort with the previous rep two hours earlier.
All will be done in 24 hours... So it's been 48 hours and I'm still not reinstated. This level of incompetence from an allegedly professional services company is profoundly disturbing. Wageworks should be drummed out of business. Health Insurance is no joke and being without it, even though I'm probably covered is frightening. If something happens during this pandemic and I have to be hospitalized, it will take me months and big cash payouts to preserve my credit record to fix this....
Just to add insult to injury, when we originally registered on the Wageworks website we got an error code. We called them and they opened a ticket that she stated would be resolved in 48 hours and we'd hear back from them. Never did...Called them and they have no status. Asked for another ticket and still have not heard back from them. It's been over six weeks....I'm not holding my breath. The level of incompetence and apathy is staggering.
All line managers should be fired and replaced. These people don't care and they are not trained. I was a line manager of a 300 person organization with nine direct reports and I can tell you with certainty, it's not the people. It's the managers failing to train people, failing to hold personnel accountable, and failing to establish and maintain an organization of excellence....

I am writing this as a testament to corporations and companies benefit administrators. Your employees deserve better! This is by far the worst company I have ever encountered and I was so upset and disturbed I had to write a review. In the time of a pandemic and COVID-19 issues in this country and in the world, this is horrible for any consumer to have to endure.
I went to the hospital a few times with pain from a cervical sprain. I have not used this card since inception. I had over $2,000 on this card to pay for whatever is left after my insurance. Mind you, I have used FSA cards since inception. Mind you this is MY MONEY that uses the card because of the IRS tax benefit - pre-tax dollars. After my debits are approved and used to pay the hospital I get an email from WageWorks demanding receipts. Fine, I go to their portal and try to upload the receipts. I work in IT and I am here to tell you that their portal is the absolute worst portal I have ever seen in my life.
Every time I logged onto the portal I was logged out of my account and asked to get a PIN and/or a password. It took me exactly 2 hours to even have the ability to log into their portal. I find it suspicious that the entire process of logging into the portal is so tedious and every time I set up my account I would be logged out and asked to re-enter a PIN. I literally had to go to three separate computers/laptops/iPads just to get access. I also spent time on the phone with someone. After finally uploading my receipts, I realize that I didn't get any confirmation on the front page of the portal, that my receipts were uploaded as there is no way to confirm that a receipt is attached to the actually claim. I upload the receipts a SECOND TIME.
Two days later I get an email from WageWorks that says that the receipts provided by the Hospital are NOT GOOD ENOUGH. If you read the complaints, you will see that this is routine that this company does to every consumer. They do not accept medical receipts. I am going to allege that they never accept receipts by any person and make it extremely difficult to get it approved.
I spent another two hours speaking to a rep and a supervisor and I was told that even though they have the name of the hospital, the date of the service, the NUMBER OF THE HOSPITAL, the account and the account number, that WageWorks did not get enough information to approve my receipt. The consumer - ME - has to either go to my insurance company and get ADDITIONAL INFORMATION and send it either by fax or mail.
I told them I was contacting an attorney, the benefit administrator at my company, and the Press. NO CONSUMER should go through this amount of suffering to PROVE their service. I have spent over 5 hours and additional money to prove to a company that received the hospital receipt that was given to me that it is good enough for them to accept. This company is committing illegal business practices.

If I could give zero stars I would. I was recently reduction in forced from my company and WageWorks is the "Cobra" administrator. I have had nothing except issues with wageworks. First they owe me a refund for partial may coverage from what I had to pay while furloughed - almost a month and still waiting for my refund. Second - signing up for NEW Cobra insurance and for three weeks now I still have not been able to sign up my dependents as they are not showing up on the selection screen. 8 plus phone calls, 10 open tickets and I am still waiting to get this fixed.
Several family members need medical attention and they have to wait until wageworks gets their collective act together and fixes a three week old issue. What joke of a company. As if losing a job isn't bad enough and having to pay cobra - tack on ineptness to allow you to sign up for cobra on top! WageWorks you are useless and pathetic. Employers, for the sake of your employees go find a company that will do a better job with Cobra help!

I would love to call these people the worst names I could possibly think of but my Review would probably not get posted. Thing is, the problems I have experienced with WageWorks has happened numerous times over a year's period. I show up at a Doctor's office and they tell me I don't have insurance. When in fact, I am ACTIVE and all is good on my part but WageWorks can't seem to consistently and competently push data streams to people like Aetna and Guardian etc. in a timely and accurate manner. So, even if your Premium has been paid and on-time, there is still a chance that if WageWorks has anything to do with it, you might get told before at time of visit to your doctor's office that your insurance is not active.
Again, this has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last year. Each time it was WageWorks fault. Then, for them to fix it, it has to be escalated quickly and then it still might take a number of days before they fix it. The quality of people intellectually working inside WageWorks is the very bottom of the barrel in intellect. This company should be shut down. I do not know why ANY company would hire WageWorks for anything!! If you are a Company and you are reading this, DO NOT hire WageWorks to do anything at all for your Company!!!!

WageWorks go out of their way to make it hard to use the money in your Health FSA. They have been a pain all year round, the problems ranging from nuisances to outrageous ones. A common nuisance is, after using their debit card at doctor and dentist offices, being asked to submit a copy of receipt detailing the bill to verify the expenses were eligible. (What do they think people buy at a place like "Kids Dental"?! And can't they get the details from the provider?) Another nuisance - couldn't order online a replacement card for my husband after he misplaced his because "he has already been issued a card".
A more serious trouble is that, after approving claims for eligible out of pocket expenses, the reimbursements don't always make it to your bank account - they sometimes get automatically and, without any explanation, returned to the FSA account (not by the bank), so effectively, it is as if I never made a claim. But the last straw that prompted me to write this review was that on the deadline day for claims, their server is unavailable due to a "scheduled maintenance and system upgrade". Really??? Today???

After nearly 10 years, I decided not to use an FSA account anymore because this is not the first time that their company has been difficult to deal with. They make it seem like I need to beg to be reimbursed with money that I earned, and are inconsistent with how they process claims year to year. I tried using the FSA card and it was deactivated after one use, so it's always a hassle every year to substantiate claims, especially since their website is archaic, and they don't allow for online appeals (only snail mail). Last year they actually had the nerve to ask me to give them back money they had already sent me, and they denied my claims for acupuncture which is 100% covered by FSA (I submitted both the payment method and the invoices online and then via paper mail and my appeal was denied).
They should make it easy, not create barriers, for us to access our own funds so that we can afford our own healthcare needs. This is no way to treat nurses, especially right now. We're all under high stress and unusual circumstances during this pandemic, and I'm an ICU RN which means that not only am I working under high stress conditions that make it difficult to maintain typical functions, but that I also earned this money by caring for sick humans and now $3,150 has just vanished because they rejected my claim outright over arbitrary rules.
They didn't consider seeing if there was anything that could be done to assist, they said there was no one else I could talk to, and didn't provide any advice on what my employer could do from their end, nothing. If there is truly nothing that can be done I might accept that, but they did not seem empathetic or concerned, instead were placating and did not seem to have any genuine interest in helping. They only provided dead end responses as if following a black and white script with no humans at the other end of decision making processes as if their systems were set up beyond their control.
The information they gave me was also the exact opposite of what my HR dept. told me (Wageworks says employers set run-out deadlines, my employer says wageworks sets it). I checked the IRS website and there is nothing that states deadlines can't be changed. I was 30 hours late in submitting my claim for the first time ever because the tax deadline was extended this year due to Covid19. Any company that doesn't even offer to look into make life easier for nurses during a pandemic is not worth your time or money.

I noticed others (with different insurance providers) have had the same complaint. It seems Wageworks is taking our money and not turning our insurance back on. The core issue with Wageworks is their over-demanding of medical expense receipts and under-acceptance of receipts when provided. Almost every week, I am prompted to submit new receipts for legit medical expenses which can simply be verified by them directly with providers. It's like having a needy brother-in-law knock on your door every Saturday and waste an hour or more of your time. The website itself is meh - once you figure out how to work their navigation, it's possible to get around in it. The wageWorks website https://mybenefits.wageworks.com/Secure/Ras/DependentCareDCF.aspx is terrible. It’s almost like they make it difficult on purpose so I will not submit my FSA Dependent care claims. My primary issues:
• In spite of the fact that they require a very itemized list per kid per day-care stay, their interactive form has a 6 or 8 row limit. Therefore I must submit several claims.
• After entering several rows in their interactive form, when I hit the “print page” button, it goes to another blank screen. It worked for one claim (which I had to cut short due to lack of rows on the form) and now despite several attempts and 30 minutes of continuous re-trying it will not work.
• The website times out very quickly. There is not ability to save the interactive form. Therefore after entering several rows and making numerous attempts to print to a pdf (which it will not allow me), it times out and I have to re-enter all the information.
• When I print the form to a pdf. I check the Itemized receipts box as my option for Certification. The form has both boxes blacked out.
• When I look up account activity after I submit for 3 claims, I see no record that I submitted the claims. Nowhere on their site do I see a record or receipt of what I submitted. It’s not reassuring considering the strict time limit on the submission.

Attempting to get a rebate on Cobra premium. We were forced to use WageWorks for my husband's COBRA coverage. After paying the $1,800 premium in January, my husband got a job and his new coverage with his new company kicked in on January 13. I was expecting a rebate as I think it is ridiculous to spend $1,800 on insurance for 12 days. We filled out all of the necessary termination paperwork and they kept setting our termination date as Feb. 1, which is not true. I sent them images of the new policy effective date and told them to term the coverage on 1/12.
After 5 calls - which were supposedly escalated to Management for a rebate, I did not get a status or anything. If they needed more information, I would have been happy to send it. Then, on call number 6, I was told that they cannot give me any information about my husband's account as I did not have HIPPA approval to be given any information about him. WHAT A CROCK!! I was also required to send in the useless card with the form, which I did. I received my reimbursement, but I never received a replacement card, and by this time, it was too late to stop the deductions in for the card for March.
During multiple phone calls to customer service, I was told that a replacement card was coming; in one case, I was even given a specific date that the card was supposed to arrive, and in another, I was told that to had been mailed out. The card never arrived. Not only is this company incompetent--in the sense that they sent me a defective card and never replaced it--but, apparently, they also train their customer service reps to lie. Finished the work on 02/08/2020- $1,100-same receipt as on 01/11/2020, except for $1,100. Denied.
First time I called the answer was "02/08/2020 is the date of purchase and we need date of service". Meantime their website says that proof must include "date of service OR date of purchase". OK, I called back, this time hostile supervisor on the phone who would not let me say a word. Called third time, now was told that description of the services is not visible good enough. Then when you call up they say, "Oh it was credited back to your account". I think between denying claims and poorly trained customer service, they can scam money and no one will question it. I have spent over 9 hours on the phone with them and I get a different explanation every time I call. It feels like they avoid paying you or reimbursing you at all costs. They make up amounts and approve amounts that are nowhere on the receipt.
One time I had to write a letter on a word doc and upload it as a receipt explaining to them the amount they are approving is nowhere on the receipt and they needed to approve the full amount. My card has been suspended and they claim that all my claims get paid back to my account because I "overspent". I have asked for details on what transactions were paid that caused me to be overspent, however I can never get an answer from anyone.
When I call they talk to me like I am stupid and tell me to log into my account and I can see all my activity. I read the exact transaction off the computer and they play dumb and say, "Oh I can't see that transaction anywhere on your account". I think there is some serious compliance and unfair and deceptive business practices going on here. I am actually paying pretax and money out of my pocket for medical, so in a sense I am double paying for my medical. I think this happens a lot and no one bothers to complain because people like myself are frustrated with all unhelpful people when you call over there. It is seriously painful to talk to them. They claim that they are still looking over the scanned documents two weeks later. And that I am not able to actually speak with the department reviewing them. I just have to wait.

The two occasions I have had to call customer service number the agents were either thoroughly disinterested in helping me and/or seemed put out that I called them at all. One was absolutely no help in helping me figure out what info they needed to accept a charge to the card. Simply, repeated the same canned response to my inquiry. I provided them everything that the doctor's office could about the charge, but for reasons she was unable to explain why it was not accepted. Their online process is borderline harassing with its incessant demands to provide receipts for charged items in that what is provided is rarely accepted and they provide no clear direction as to what is acceptable to the eyes of their claim reviewers.
The next person I spoke to answered the phone already exasperated/annoyed, interrupting me when I tried to explain the purpose of my call (to have a issued check cancelled and payment reissued to a correct address). Thankfully, while frustrating that they would interrupt me, my need was addressed. My advise, keep receipts of doctor visits, pay with the card but do not sign up to receive email or text messages from them. Otherwise you will receive multiple message in a day/week or your receipts will not be accepted no matter what you do or say to explain the receipts to them.

I joined a Coca Cola in December and as part of my commuter benefits through Wage Works, signed up for the Breeze Card. They have processed my payment for Jan 2020 monthly pass in December and my card never got loaded. My money was deducted from the payroll, Wageworks website shows transaction complete but my commuter Breeze Card does not reflect anything, I still continue to pay every trip. I Called Customer No Service at Wageworks. All they say is they can order a new card for me but wont tell me why the transaction did not succeed. My order shows as complete when I login to Wageworks website but Wageworks does not have a clue.
Finally the customer no-service agent ordered a replacement card for me. Just to remind this is for the monthly pass for Jan. We are at 1/21. All these days I have been paying on my own for the pass even after the payroll deductions were made towards funding my Breeze Card. Now I asked a logical question. What will happen to the payroll deduction they made for entire month but I get the new card only for commute worth a week? Wageworks has a superior answer here; "we dont fund the cards. We only process. The funding is by MARTA." They want me to go back to MARTA to get any refunds. The sick thing is when I asked Wageworks Customer no-service agent to talk to a manager to get more authoritative answer, she said confidently that the manager will tell you the same story and she would not let me talk to a superior. I would not even give wageworks a single Star but there is no option.

Be prepared to waste plenty of time submitting receipts to an automated system - with NO recourse for rejections - unless you want to pay for something twice. If you got this HSA through your employer, guess what? You don't have to take it. My previous employer used Optum Bank - and I never once had to prove anything to anyone - because the card would work for medical expenses and reject anything else. Their support was actually understandable, helpful and friendly compared to WageWorks. Having WageWorks must be a bit like living in the former USSR. You can choose your own HSA. Don't just accept what your employer gives you. ESPECIALLY if it's WageWorks.

I Was surprised to read all these negative reviews, but apparently my expectations are not as high as many reviewers. When my employer set me up with WageWorks for (only) my HRA in 2011, I had to fax in all of my claims, using their forms, to get a reimbursement. I never even knew they offered a card that I could use to pay. So I was pleased when they enhanced their system to allow me to submit using an app on my smart phone. (A lot easier than faxing.)
Eventually transitioned to submitting online after I got a printer that scanned, because that was easier than trying to take legible pictures of documents with my phone. I always paid my providers with my own credit card, and had set up my checking account to receive the ACH reimbursement. They were always very prompt. If I submitting my receipt right away, my reimbursement arrived in my checking account long before my CC payment was due. Don't understand the complaints about having to provide a detailed receipt.
The receipt shows the DOS (Date of Service) which must be within the plan term. It also shows who the service was provided to. I mean... you could be paying Uncle George's bill for him. And the receipt has to show the service which was provided, since there are some services that are not covered... either according to IRS regs or the specific contract between WageWorks and your employer. I personally am most grateful that my employer provides this benefit for me, don't mind the few minutes it takes to submit the needed info, and have always received my reimbursements promptly.

Reading through the negative reviews posted here, there is a consistent theme of poor customer service and the feeling that this company intentionally tries to deny your claims to either keep your money or keep it longer so they get the “float”, a financial strategy similar to insurance companies. I can confirm these reviews are Spot On and some reviewers did a really intelligent and thoughtful job of laying out examples that support and validate these complaints. The customer service folks often struggle with English, and these mechanical and boiler plate responses, often used in awkward tones that are out of synch with the flow of a normal conversation, might make a Buddhist monk lose his temper. But even the more fluent speakers just don’t know how to help you and you get the feeling that they are trying to be unhelpful and deny or frustrate you.

The antiquated system, the ineffective communication, the constant battle to have legitimate claims approved in addition to the general lack of professionalism is disgraceful. It actually feels as though the associates are being instructed to challenge eligible claims in an effort to extort money from participants based on any technicality or unofficial discrepancy possible. WageWorks gets to keep YOUR money if they deny a claim for any reason. So they will manufacture reasons to deny your claim. E.g. no supporting documentation, when you actually did send it. You have to call up and wait on hold a long time to talk to someone who then submits a ticket for an audit request to a department that can actually fix the issue and re-send the information. Then you have to wait multiple days for a response and follow up with them. Call them back and wait on hold again to find out the status. They put the onus on you to fix their errors and make it really time consuming and frustrating to do it, so they hope you will give up and they can keep YOUR money.
And of course if they can find any legit but nit-picky ways to deny your claim they will. So document everything including proof of mailings. The FSA system is ripe for abuse. There's no way they should be able to keep YOUR money. But I imagine lobbyists for this industry is what got the laws passed to create this ridiculous system.

Justworks for the record was great—except for their choice to contract with WageWorks as their COBRA contractor.
WageWorks has only ever wasted HOURS of my time with obfuscatory responses to every needful request I ever made to them whether online or over the phone. They canceled my coverage after not sending premium invoices or any notice—funnily enough I DID receive the sudden notice that it HAD already been canceled. Quite evil? Then I had to ask Justworks to intervene on my behalf—thankfully they did.
It doesn't help matters that they outsource to some call center in the Philippines (unpatriotic)—the contract employees there don't have any actual answers or deep knowledge of the system and there is a language and cultural barrier that serves to make things more difficult. A couple of times I was transferred to the US customer service center which was only marginally better. Each time I called I was given different answers which was a setback. If you hear the name WageWorks—walk away. Wageworks management team has a difficult time staying on top of the current technologies and staffing needs. In a difficult FSA/HSA industry that consistently hides behind IRS rules, customer service is going to be a frustrating achievement. This is because many of the answers folks receive in why their FSA/HSA card cannot be used is 'no'. Because it is not a 'qualifying expense' Added to the frustration are companies (like wageworks) whose revenue is generated by not paying expenses. So incentive to not pay out medical expenses and hiding behind 'IRS rules' certainly paints a conflict of interest business model.
Though they do have a Mobile app to 'snap' a picture of receipts, the images struggle to qualify because they cannot be 'read'. Thus denying the receipt or expense. Though Wageworks does offer an online 'portal' as most FSA/HSA companies do, they really only like a single PDF format to upload these documents. this is a time consuming and cumbersome process. They also like to say 2-4 business days to process these receipts. In today's 2019 technology this should be instant. Yet Wageworks cannot improve this. Thus pointing to an internal staffing problem to get eyes on screensreceipts.
Again, back to the subjective & manual process of looking at receipts. It's a tough industry to be in and competitors like Benesyst aren't much better. Overall, Wageworks seems to stand out in their ridged stance on IRS rules and consistent denial of receipts and corresponding suspension of cards to bully in repayment. The attached documentation is the exact form THEY provide for your download! Customer service reps are rude, treated me like it was my fault their system was not recognizing that I submitted the necessary bits with my claim and that I was stupid for not knowing what their "magic 5 was." This is a terrible company when it comes to Daycare benefits. Not paying child care claims threatens my employment because I can't work without child care for my children. You should be ashamed of yourselves. This is deplorable. This has happened so many times that I am better off foregoing the tax savings just to be in charge of my own money and pay the daycare myself. Shame on you.

I've read the reviews and now I have PTSD! WageWorks has actually caused me to be sicker than I was before! Good luck on getting that "validated"! Seriously though, I just got off the phone after another one hour talking with a WageWorks "supervisor". It's the third call this week. My retirement Health Benefits is contracted from my ex-employer to WillisTowersWatson, they contract out to WageWorks. Since my ex-employer lives and dies by Customer Satisfaction Surveys I'm shocked they never have read these reviews. Reading these reviews has given me nightmares of past experiences. And they never end. NEVER! Having to give one star to be able to post a review is a slap in the face to anyone who has suffered with WageWorks. If you're not "lucky" enough to get an American call center my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Lately it's been more of the Philippines but India has always been there to torment us. It's called WageWorks Roulette. You dial then pray. It's really tough when a call center doesn't speak English! I always immediately ask for an American "supervisor". The email notification process, which WageWorks loves to brag about, is the latest obstacle for me. Absolutely worthless. This company hasn't got a clue as to what their own business processes are. Without an email notification that your card is about to be suspended for lack of verification on a $20 copayment from three months ago, the only way you know it's been suspended is by trying to use it.
Now begins the one month process of trying to lift the suspension. I've been with this "company" for three years now. The worst three years of my life. They're up for another Management change in January. Lord help us ALL! Another nightmare that will NEVER end! NEVER! Thank God for alcohol. Without it I'd be hanging from the nearest tree branch!

The website doesn't show the forms I need; I have to insist that they be emailed to me. The staff person's voice cuts out while we are speaking, and then the call cuts off. I am not called back. Meanwhile I am having to pay for a raft of medical expenses with personal funds; getting reimbursement will be another nightmare. When I talk to the folks in Human Resources at my company, they just nod in sad agreement.

All the representatives I spoke to provided different incorrect information. This will be the first and last time I enroll in this plan. All reps need to be retrained so that correct and valid information is given to the customer so that their card is not locked for months over 10-25 dollars. I sent documents but according to the supervisor it wasn’t enough because a card was used to make that payment. Mind you I was advised by the previous rep that one of those documents was approved but the other one probably was just overlooked by the rep that reviewed them. Not one time did she say anything about how the payment was made or that the documents I sent are not what was needed. Although I sent the documents I was previously advised to send by a different rep who said, "Just send us any documents that shows a payment was made with the card adding up to 25 dollars so we could unlock the card".
I’ve have other HSA cards and NEVER have I had such an Awful experience as I did with this company. Very unprofessional. I would give them negative stars but that’s not an option. I’m sick and can’t use my card because it is still locked and I have to wait 10 business days after I send more documents to prove I paid 10 dollars. Hopefully I send the correct documents this time so that my 400 dollars can be used.

ADP-managed WageWorks is either completely inept or just plain greedy. I have put aside thousands of dollars of my salary to avail myself of pre-tax spending on legitimate health-related expenditures not covered by health insurance. But ADP uses any and every excuse to deny medical expenses, even when proper receipts and forms are provided. So far, I've had to pay almost $700 out-of-pocket this year, for such things as eye glasses and eye exams for my children. Every time I swipe the card provided for legitimate health expenditure, payment is denied. I then have to pay out of pocket with post-tax dollars.
Then, when I put in claims to be reimbursed, they "lose" the claims. They "lost" a faxed claim that they found months later, and "lost" a claim submitted online that they emailed me at the time that they had received. Months later, they "found" that, too. It's been seven months since one of these claims, and I have yet to be reimbursed for any of them. Even when I am reimbursed (which I've been promised I would before, and have not), it will be with post-tax dollars, so now I'll be left with ways to figure out how to spend an extra $700 on medical expenses before the end of the year. They are disgusting.

I became unemployed at the end of May, my former employer uses WageWorks to manage the Cobra side of things. I decided to keep my FSA & Dental benefits so I could use the FSA for my husbands deductible for dental work he was having done. I signed up just before the deadline of July 30th. The co pay was 320 and my monthly payment to keep both is 256. So I figured it was better to pay the 256. On August 5th before making my payment I called WageWorks to make sure that making only the first payment would activate the FSA. I spoke with a woman-who was difficult to communicate with-and managed to get her to understand what I was asking. She told me that yes once I made the first payment the FSA would become active after a few days. So my husband changed his appointment to allow for this to happen.
Two weeks later he goes to his appointment only to find out that the card wouldn't work (I was not told that I would no longer be able to use the card) so I called AGAIN only to be told it takes "7-10 business days to activate and would I like a rush put on this?" Well, yes I said, it’s been that long anyway but Ok. So this person said to try again on Friday of that week (this was Monday). We actually waited until the Friday after that which was Friday, August 30th, no go didn't work. So. Today. After 4 phone calls and about an hour waiting on hold or just for someone to answer, I spoke with someone who told me that no, I would need to pay the other 513 to even be able to submit a claim because I can't use the card, which means also paying the 320 up front and HOPE I get reimbursed. I told her to refund the payment I already made so that I could use that to pay the deductible to the dentist.
I was told I could only get a refund if I had requested it before the end of the month I had paid for- which was June and I had paid it in August- I told her I had made a call to make sure before I made the payment. Se tells me that I had been misinformed but I still couldn't have a refund. She also told me she was going to "Report the person who had misinformed me to her supervisor but that person no longer worked there". I explained I also called on August 19th and wasn't told any of this then, I asked to speak with a supervisor and she tells me she is also a supervisor but still could not have a refund. I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to and was told I have to submit my complaint in writing to the "Executive Resolution Dept" but they probably wouldn't give me my money back either. I AM UNEMPLOYED!!!! I want some sort of recourse. I will be contacting the BBB as well as calling their corporate offices.

My former employer is using Wage Works as its Cobra Administrator. As a former employee on Cobra, I make my health and prescription insurance coverage payments to Wage Works who, in turn, pays the insurance companies and updates my eligibility for coverage. Only, they don't update the insurance companies on my eligibility. I learned this the hard way on three different occasions when I went to pick up needed prescriptions and was told I had no insurance coverage. When I called Cobra they said it would take 5-7 days or 2-4 days to update the insurance coverage. They insisted on this process even though: (1) all of my payments to Wage Works were made prior to the due date; (2) I really needed the prescriptions and could not wait 5-7 or 2-4 days; and, in one case, (3) I needed the prescription in advance of a surgery that was scheduled. The customer service representatives are reading from a script and are not helpful.
I learned from my prescription insurer that, in fact, Wage Works has not been updating my eligibility at all. It's September 3rd as I write this and the last electronic eligibility update they received from Wage Works was on June 19th for the month of June 2019. I've wasted countless hours and have been asked many inappropriate questions by the customer service reps such as what type of prescription am I needing, what type of surgery am I having -- none of which is relevant to why they don't update my eligibility. Clearly, when they update they must make payment which is why it's not happening. This smells to me like a really shady revenue model. I'm sorry I'm forced to give them 1-star.

I've had a WW account for years. The customer service and the processing of claims has gone downhill over the last two years. It has been increasingly difficult to get valid claims approved. They will accept one receipt/description of services from a healthcare provider and then when I submit an identical receipt/description of services three months later for follow up treatment, they will decline it. I get a different answer as to why it was declined depending on which customer service representative I speak to. They make it increasingly difficult to speak to a manager to get a problem resolved/final resolution as well. I submit receipts all the time through their phone app and most go through but not all. I find myself resubmitting required documents repeatedly.
I've had to call my healthcare providers more frequently and ask them to be more specific as to description of services. It's absolutely frustrating. I understand the need for review to ensure legitimate expenses. But expenses from hospitals are being repeatedly denied. What kind of bill would I be paying from a hospital or Emergency Room other than legitimate medical expenses? Horrible experience.

They are petty and even when you explain or provide receipts they still give you a hard time about paying. It's not like they are giving you anything. These funds come out of our pay checks. On another instance they were going to freeze my account again because I went to two different doctors on the same day and they said they would not pay for one of them and needed another receipt when I sent in both receipts.
It took almost 4 months of back and forth emails and phone calls to clear this up. All because someone did not read the name charges correctly and noticed it was two different doctors. In July 2019, my FSA card was declined despite more than sufficient funds in my FSA account. I called WageWorks to inquire.
WageWorks explained that Johns Hopkins decided on June 29, 2019 (one day before I left for another job) to change the terms of the agreement so that all remaining FSA money would all be forfeited if not used by June 30, 2019. WageWorks explained that the specific terms were that the remaining funds be “donated back to my employer” and that there was no way for me to get the money back for health insurance purposes. This company is the worst. I have spent countless hours trying to get my account released from suspension for a purchase of compression stockings in Dec. 2018. My story is long but I will try to be succinct. Back in February 2018, I had knee surgery. As as a result I was required to wear TED (compression stockings) to help with swelling and blood flow. I wore them immediately after surgery and off and on throughout the year, especially when my leg and ankle swelled. Fast forward to December. It was the end of the year and I still had quite a bit of money left in my account so I decided to get more stockings. I checked the FSA store through the WageWorks website and found that compression stockings do not require a prescription.
The FSA store however did not carry TED stockings but another brand. I prefer TED's and made the purchase from Vitality Medical. Again, their website too said the stockings were FSA approved, no prescription needed. I provided the receipt to WageWorks to verify the purchase only to receive a declination because they said I needed a letter of medical necessity from my doctor. I went through the whole story of the FSA store showing no prescription was needed to no avail. So, angry and frustrated, I asked my doctor if he would fill out the form for me. He graciously agreed to do so and once again, I submitted the requested supporting documentation.
WageWorks still denied the claim because they said the letter had to be dated prior to the purchase of the stockings!!!! So why was I told a letter of medical necessity was needed in July 2019 if the letter had to be dated prior to December 2018?! I spent more than a week trying to secure paperwork requested by WageWorks only to told it wasn't sufficient. To say I was disgusted is an understatement. I literally cried because I was so angry. Keep in mind during all this time, I can't use my card for other medical needs.
Insult to injury, I had a dental emergency requiring extraction of a erupted tooth. In addition to the extraction, I also had a bone graft. Out of pocket expense - $494 plus another $22 in prescriptions. I just submitted a claim for reimbursement (knowing they will deduct the $75.89 for the stockings purchase) but need my money back. You know it - my claim was denied. Why? Because supporting documentation was "predetermination of benefits is not acceptable." In addition to my credit card receipt, the dental office provided the cost of each procedure showing cost less insurance to support what I was being charged. But that wasn't good enough. I now submitted again this information along with a statement from the dentist office and an EOB statement from my insurance which hopefully will give them what is needed.
I have never had such horrible service with a flex spending account. I promise if my company continues to use them, this will be my last year. I only hope I will be able to use all my funds so I can end this relationship and nightmare. Just for clarification, I highly recommend using a flex spending account. It's tremendously beneficial, especially when medical emergencies arise. However, if the program is managed by WageWorks, don't do it! Trust me, you will regret it.

The university I work for uses WageWorks to manage our FSAs. I dutifully submit receipts for every legitimate expense, but have had to contact them no less than three times this year because they have denied the receipts for reasons that are blatantly contradicted by the receipts themselves. I just spent an hour explaining to one of their representatives that the receipt I submitted - and which we were both looking at - had the services provided, along with the date of service, and the payment I made, along with the date of payment (all were the same date). Despite the fact that the payment line item read "xx/xx/xx (date) PYMT **** (card #) $___ (amount), the representative seemed not to understand that the line represented a payment (I'm pretty sure PYMT couldn't mean anything else, and even though the last four digits of my card number were in the line description).
Apparently this representative was also unable to read the dates on which the various services (an eye exam, contact lenses, etc.) were performed. This kind of ineptitude can only be explained by the fact that WageWorks either hires completely underqualified folks, or they pay so poorly that the employees simply can't be bothered to care.

By the time the third was due, we had set up online payment. The bank account information was verified as correct. We were told by customer service that everything was confirmed and ready for us to make payments online. We made the payment and received a confirmation. WageWorks never withdrew the payment.
I did not find out there was a problem until after the grace period had passed. I could not even see what the problem was online because as soon as they canceled the coverage, they terminated our access to the online portal. We got conflicting information from multiple customer service reps about what was going on. Meanwhile, every call we made generated an email to us telling us to view the status of our inquiry on the terminated portal. Ultimately, we were told to submit a reinstatement request and that it would take 30 to 45 days to process.
I submitted the request with copies of the online records and payment confirmation. It took nearly a month for them to respond. Their response? We should have paid the payment by check before the end of the grace period. We received no explanation about why the payment wasn't withdrawn or acknowledgement that we had a confirmation! I considered filing a complaint with our State's Department of Banking and Insurance. When I called today, the rep told me that I could submit a paper payment coupon. When I said I didn't have any, he told me he could email me one, but it would take 3 to 4 business days. I just laughed, and asked him how he would feel if another online company gave him that type of response. I admit I also said "I don't know how you stay in business."

This company loves to claim the that it will save you money, which in a few cases it actually may. The reality is once you allow them to take your money it is gone forever. I had a commuter account, I knew one month in advance I was leaving my employer. I reached out to WageWorks and found I had a $520 CREDIT, due to the taking money without orders (which they cannot return to you, due to the IRS). Regardless, I worked with their representative to make sure I used most of the credit balance. Only to find that they took more money from my pay instead of using the credit balance, so I’m out money and I have a credit balance that you cannot use once you separate from your employer.
They love to hide behind the IRS, that is the one thing they say over and over. To add injury to insult, after 91 days after you separate from your employer, your employer gets that money that is forfeited by WageWorks... Guess again, your employer keeps that forfeited money. Bottom line any funds you provide to WageWorks is money gone forever, it does not matter that it is your earned income, save yourself the possibility of saving money with WageWorks, keep your money, in the end you will save money. I am a conservative and believe in free market, but this company is out of control. Currently, I have money IN MY ACCOUNT--that I earned, it was not freely given, it is MY money--that I am still FIGHTING to get back. This has been since March 2019. I left my job and I was told I would no longer have access to my account the same way I did while I was at work. However, I was not given ANY information--not an account number, how to access my account, a phone number, a disclosure, privacy notice, absolutely nothing.
Through a serious process of going back and forth through HR at my previous job and the customer service at WageWorks, I was finally informed by WageWorks that MY money in MY account was not allowed to be reimbursed (even though I had receipts of legit childcare to be reimbursed) because they changed/upped my claim date from March 31, 2019 to January 3, 2019. NO notice of changes were given--via mail, email or phone call. If I felt this was an issue, I was free to file a claim. Done and DENIED my claim. If I wanted to file an appeal, I was free to do that. Done and I was told they would reimburse me if I sent them back the receipts in a timely fashion (naturally they have all the time to respond but they want my receipts within 10 days of the approval). I sent the receipts off.
Interesting that they did not receive my receipts until three days later than my cutoff time. I called 6 weeks later and was told that they will move forward and process that reimbursement. I have just called (6 days later) to make sure they followed through and found they are not reimbursing me the whole amount! I am currently STILL FIGHTING for the last $26.79?! Not only am I upset that I am still currently dealing with this company, I am seriously upset that they set their system up where there isn't a supervisor to speak to. The customer service rep can only process a "ticket" to ask questions. Clearly this is intentional because who is going to continue fighting for $26.79?? This one. If there is a class action suit, please let me know.

I've had the WORST experience with this company! They have terminated my dad's health benefits not just once but twice by mistake!! Two months in a row. They say they have expedited the reinstatement but in the meantime he has prescriptions that he needs and can't afford until his medical is back in place. They are a JOKE! No one wants to help and they do not care.

Wageworks not only defrauds investors they also cheat the individuals utilizing their "services". They are criminals stealing money from hard working people. If you work for a federal entity, start a petition to change vendors for the services provided by WageWorks. Crooks and thieves with no remorse getting rich from stealing from us. Don't waste your time and money.

In their 2019 audit verification, WageWorks requested verification of three months payment premiums (for 2019) to United Healthcare - they requested this information by February 11, 2019. It was impossible for this to be done by February 11. I received a letter stating that my request was denied because of two things. First, I was missing one month's bank statement showing the automatic payment to united Healthcare because it was not available by February 11. I sent them the statement from United Healthcare that stated that 2019 payments would continue to be automatically paid from my bank account.
Second, Wageworks annual stipend audit reimbursement form requests a monthly cost for the insurance amount payments. I had one amount for January through July and another amount from August through December 2019. I indicated "see attached" in the block for the amount. They rejected that and said to pick an amount and put it in the block. I had made the exact notation for the prior year's audit, and it was acceptable. On March 9, 2019, I sent Wageworks a copy of an additional month's verification of payment to United Healthcare and I filled in "an" amount in the monthly amount block and we were good to go - I thought. On March 29, 2019, I received a letter from my company's benefits center stating that my "reimbursement audit documentation for the current calendar year (2019) has been received. Your documents have been approved and no further action is required from you at this time.”
In reviewing my bank statements, I noted that my last stipend reimbursement was in March 1, 2019. I was giving them a month or two to catch up with back payments, but out of curiosity, I decided to give them a call. I just got off the phone with Wageworks (and Fidelity), and Wageworks is now saying that they never received any information for 2019 from me. Go figure. Now we have to start with the opening of tickets and multiple phone calls.
I have been experiencing difficulties with WageWorks for three years now. I no longer will talk with anyone at Wageworks without a Fidelity representative on the phone. I understand that I am not the only retiree having difficulty with WageWorks. I retired on August 1, 2016 and I was not able to resolve the initial stipend reimbursement from WageWorks until the second quarter of 2017. This is just more of the same level of unacceptable, incompetent service from a company that no doubt being paid a handsome sum of money for their services.

I subscribe to TransitChek from WageWorks and for the past 2 years, my transit cards have been coming in the mail on the 20th or 21st of every month. The month of April, to make a long story short, did not arrive until May 1st. WEEK 1 - I called as soon as the cards did not arrive. Called WageWorks and had to explain the issue 5 times to the customer service rep because she acted like she did not understand what I was saying. Finally I asked to be transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor sent me a form to fill out and send by via fax or email and told me that any out of pocket expenses that I incurred regarding the MetroCard to send them in and I would be reimbursed. My out of pocket expenses were $70.00 because I take the express bus to and from work. I sent it in through email. WEEK 2 - No one can find my fax although I have confirmation. So I sent the out of pocket expenses in again this time via email.
WEEK 3 - I called to find out the status and was told it was the wrong form that the supervisor told me to send in. The next supervisor gave me the correct form and then told me I that the $70.00 are being worked on and will be sent out. WEEK 4 - After being on the phone for 2 hours on Friday, May 31st with a customer service rep that REFUSED to let me speak with a supervisor, I was told that I would not be receiving any out of pocket expenses and that when my cards arrived on the 20th or 21st of the month, I shouldn't have used them. I should have waited until the first of the month. I asked the rep, "Are you telling me that you are stealing my monies and that for the past 3 weeks everyone else including the supervisors were wrong!?" She said yes. I have fax confirmations and emails that state that I would be receiving my $70.00. The people are idiots, liars and crooks. I AM DONE.

This company has to be one of the largest scam artists protected by the IRS. I ordered two unlimited MetroCards in NYC, they were never sent to me. I've contacted WageWorks over a dozen times to resolve this issue. Basically the company is telling me they're going to reimburse me for one but not two MetroCards, yet the money for both were taken out of my check. It's been 30 days and WageWorks pretty much stopped responding to my emails. I'm taking them to small claims court....

Reached out to establish a possible partnership for them to administer our COBRA program. Left voicemails and emails, never received any response. I eventually went through my payroll provider and they were able to have a proposal sent; however, when I wanted to "sign on the line", crickets. So I went through another vendor who was responsive and wanted our business.

I have used other HSA / FSA accounts for years. Unfortunately my current employer chose WageWorks. They require proof of every debit card purchase even though they are made at doctor offices and pharmacies etc. Then they deny 80% of the valid claims. Ridiculous. The point of this card is convenience and Dr does not give detailed copay receipts. Then they threaten to suspend my debit card so I can't spend the $$ I have contributed.

My husbands prior employer switched from Wage Works to another administrator for COBRA. I had authorized a direct debit by Wage works to pay my monthly premiums when they were the administrator. They authorized the debit for the month that they no longer had a relationship with the employer. They first said that anyone that was currently on cobra was to stay with them. After speaking to the new administrator and the employer, I found they were incorrect. I called them back. Then they said they were waiting to get the money back to refund.
Four months later they said that there would be a check coming. The next month they sent me an email saying that my inquiry was closed. When I called they indicated that I would have to go back to the former employer after first saying there was no notes on detailing anything. They further said that I didn't cancel the autopay. That makes no sense since they were the ones debiting the account. Now it is almost June and the money has been who knows where since January. Now I have to start square one. The burden is on my both to fix the problem and financially. It is totally unfair. I assume I won't get my $700.00 back. I was nothing but understanding until today. It would have been much easier if they had said something in January. At least it should have been easier to trace. I really think that there should be some type of penalty for this.
