I have a huge complaint about a brand new 2011 Jetta 6 2.0TDi. I got the Jetta on October 7th 2011 in the afternoon from Tri-Sec Autohaus.

The next week, Tuesday, not even a week later, I was back at the dealer with a light that came on the dashboard. According to the vehicle manual book, it is the catalyst converter. Tri-Sec Autohaus tested it and said that it was an exhaust temp sensor on the turbo that needs replacement. I was having a concern with the light that keeps on burning but they said that I can continue to use the vehicle. They ordered a new sensor and it was installed on October 20th 2011 (a day without the vehicle), the vehicle had only 599km on the clock.

On Monday morning, October 24th, the same light came on again; the vehicle did not even had 700km on the clock. I contacted Tri-Sec again and they said that I must bring in the vehicle again. I took it to them that Monday afternoon and according to the computer diagnostic, it was the same sensor again. They said that I must bring in the vehicle again for a whole day and I arranged my work so that they could have a look at the vehicle as soon as possible. They had the vehicle for the whole Tuesday, October 25th, and upon fetching it in the afternoon, they said that after speaking to VW SA the problem is that there are three sensors on the vehicle exhaust system and that all three needs replacement, so they have ordered it. They also confirmed that I can continue to drive with the vehicle. The light of the catalyst converter was off at this time.

On Thursday afternoon, October 27th, the light that says Particle Filter and a message came on in the vehicle. The vehicle now only had 1100km on the clock. I immediately phoned Tri-Sec and spoke to the technician that worked on my vehicle previously and he said that I only have to drive the vehicle in 4th gear above 70km/h and it might reset, if not I must bring it in on a breakdown so that they can reset it. The light of the catalyst converter also came on again. I drove the vehicle for 30 minutes in 4th gear at 80-90km/h and nothing happened, the light kept on burning.

On Friday morning, October 28th, I took it back to Tri-Sec and after two hours of waiting, they came back to me and said that they think that the remaining two sensors that must be replaced must be the problem for the Particle Filter not resetting. I must continue to drive like it until they have the sensors to replace them. The light of the catalyst converter was off at this stage again.

At about 10am, I phoned VW SA Complaint Department to log this with them. I told the lady that answered the whole story and that I'm not satisfied with this, also that I want to use the vehicle to drive a long distance over the weekend. She said that she will find out when the parts will be available and if it was safe to drive with the vehicle long distance. I told her that I'm not satisfied at all and that I want a replacement Jetta, being a loyal VW customer since 1990. She never phoned me as promised and on Saturday, we decided that we will only go to Johannesburg for the day. On the way back home, at about 14H45, the vehicle suddenly had no power and the coil light came on flashing, with a message Engine fault: Workshop!

I immediately phoned the VW Alert telling them of the problem and the whole story again and they said that they will contact the technician and get back to me. I continued slowly to my home in Secunda and when close to home, I phoned again because nobody phoned me back after 30 minutes. The person that I spoke to said that he will get back to me in five minutes, by that time, I was already at my house. Five minutes later, the lady that I spoke to first phoned me back and put me through to the technician on standby and he said that he can arrange that the vehicle be towed in to the workshop and they will only look at it on Monday, October 31st. I said that if it will stand there or at my home, it does not make a difference and he said it is okay for me to bring it to them on Monday and just tell the workshop people that he knows about it. He also said that he know the vehicle that was in with them on Friday with the problems.

I took the car in on Monday, October 31st, and the spares was only sent from Germany on the Tuesday, November 1st. The car will only be available again the next week, Tuesday, November 8th. I want to know who I can contact to request VW to replace this Jetta with a new Jetta 6 2.0TDi Highline (Silver Leave) in this ones place because what trust must I have in a vehicle that does not even have 1600km on the clock to last me five years minimum. I have sent VW SA a complaint e-mail but have not heard anything from them as well.

My 2007 Jetta Wolfsburg, at 61,000 miles, the fun really stops. My headliner is coming down ($899 to fix). Next, the A/C begins to stop working ($100 just to look at it). The compressor comes on only after the car has been operating for over five minutes and getting worse. At 68,000 miles, dealer tells me there is an oil leak from valve cover gasket ($499 to fix). Now, this morning, my airbag light came on. I have always babied this car. My wife's '04 Civic never had a single issue with over 160k miles. Her Civic before that never had an issue. Never again will I buy a VW.

I bought a TDI Jetta in 2008 with 60k from dealer, certified pre-'loved'. I put 40k on it in 3 years. It had regular service, scheduled oil changes, all the required maintenance. The check engine light comes on. It's a $7000 repair because a fuel injector came loose in the engine. The car cost me $17,000 and I just got done paying it. This is a big deal to me and it comes as a huge financial blow. I used to highly recommend this type of car. But now I can't because I just cannot justify this kind of mechanical failure, at no fault of my own.

I bought a Jetta model 2010 and yesterday, I got a problem. The car is not responding to the gear and is not moving. When I took it to the dealer, Egyptian Trading & Automotive Company, they investigated and told me that the control unit has to be changed which will take three to four weeks.

As users reported the same problem and one of them is a friend of mine, I knew that this is a problem that is in this model. I regret to say that my trust in VW, as a brand, is not as great as before. I was expecting that if there's such a problem in the car, they should have changed all these cars to new ones or at least repair it even without having the problem raised from any customer if they were really willing to satisfy their customers.

My number is ** and I am waiting for feedback as soon as possible and recommend to communicate all together to submit a collective complaint for VW to compensate us and other owners of this model.

In mild and cold temperatures, the car overheats and engine fan stays on for at least 10 minutes after it shuts off. It happens even at -15 degrees Celsius. The dealer reports no faults. The car is still under warranty but what about post warranty time?

I am Ritesh **, owner of a Jetta car no. **. I purchased the car in February 2009 and ever since, I have faced innumerable problems with the car and the service station where it is sent so very often. I send my car to World-Class Automobile, West Moti Nagar, New Delhi, Delhi.

Below is the list of the problems I have faced:

    1. The fly wheel of the car had been changed twice.
    2. The air-conditioning of the car doesn’t work.
    3. The fan motor of the car has been changed 3 times.
    4. The car completely breaks down on my journey up hills. (At one time, narrowly escaping a serious accident).
    5. Irresponsible staff of the service station who refuses to take responsibility.
    6. After every 3 months the car need some repair and the car is not returned on the agreed time.
    7. Tires of my car have been changed twice.
    8. I had to practically fight for the back sensor which was promised on delivery but received after more than 45 days.

    9. The battery has been discharged once.

These are the problems i have faced within 2 years of the purchase of the car. Now what credibility does your brand have? What makes you call it 'Das Auto'?

I live in South Africa. I own a Jetta 5 1.9 TDI Comfortline, and I am extremely happy with the vehicle. I looked forward to the Jetta 6 launch. I was seriously considering buying a Jetta 6, following its launch in South Africa. I browsed the Internet to attempt to get a sneak preview of the Jetta 6.

I must say that I may be the first person who will not buy a car due to a stupid trunk hinge design. The hinge design of the Jetta 6 seems cheap and removes a significant amount of space from the trunk. The new polo sedan has the same stupid hinge design. My wife was also planning to replace her polo, but after seeing the car, we were extremely disappointed.

We will probably not buy a VW again due to the fact that good working designs seem to be replaced by manufacturing cost saving methods. Based on these observations, what short cuts were taken with the design of the engines? I doubt the reliability of the VW range due to the cheap trunk hinge design. My only request is that you leave the current trunk hinge mechanism, which is currently doing its duty on the Jetta 5.

Actually I have a 2008 VW Jetta SE. I met with an accident while driving 40 miles per hour. The front part of the car is totally gone and the air bag sensor is nowhere to be found.

I went to the collision center and they found the sensor broken and detached. It was found somewhere in the engine parts. I tried to make sure it was air bag fault. Nobody took responsibility and collision center doesn’t want it to be a manufacture defect because they won’t get money for repairing.

I strongly believe VW Jetta models have faulty air bag sensors. Again in 2011, the airbag symbol popped up and I went to the dealer and replaced the clock spring. I have on and off issues with the airbag. I strongly suggest someone to check the airbag system of VW. I spoke to attorney about it but they said if I have $100,000, then they will fight for the airbag fault.

I am writing about the most bizarre experience I have ever had in a business, your business. I went to pick-up my Jetta TDI from the service at Luther, VW. I spoke to a service person named Brett. I told him why I was there, and then asked if my car had been washed. Usually, repair shops are washing the car, and the last time I had service at VW, they didn't wash mine, so I asked. Brett's response was a flippant, "I don't know, sometimes they do and sometimes they don't." It was obvious by his tone he had a bad attitude, and didn't care. So, I ignored him and just wanted to get out. He told me to go to another desk to pay and I said, "I hope they washed it. I have received poor service here in the past, and at this price, I don't appreciate it." I then walked away to go to the other desk. At this time Brett followed me to the other desk and said, "You can't just say something like that, and walk away. I don't even know your name." His approach and tone was intimidating. I told him my name, and bumped him on the side of the arm and said, "Don't worry about it." I was hoping his of his intimidating nature would go away. He responded, "Don't touch me." I said, "I just bumped you on the arm." He continued to talk back (e.g. I work 50 hours a week, and I don't like someone...), and I told him I didn't like his attitude, or the way he was talking to me, (his actions continued to make me a little nervous), but he continued to rant. I said I would like to speak to your manager and he said, "Good, I think you should talk to the manager, my name is Brett."

I could not believe my ears. Here is a worker who followed me over to a desk, stepped so close to me that he was not even an arms length away (I would call this kind of action aggressive), got in my face and told me how bad my attitude was, and told me, “ fine go ahead talk to the manager”. I was not swearing, or yelling (as my son can attest), but now I was really upset (FYI, I don't name call, swear, and my voice was no louder than Brett's). I have never experienced an employee with such a bad attitude, or had one get in my space and rant on telling me what I should and should not do. Not only that, this should been a simple complaint with a short apology. Besides, I felt I was in the right with my complaint. A shop that charges what VW does should be providing the highest level of service, and washing the car is now considered the norm. I was paying $250.00 for a bracket and wires to be replaced. I realized there was no reason to continue to explain myself. He was more worried going on about himself, and his perceptions of the situation than any customer complaint. Besides, he was intimidating me.

Well I found out why he wanted to seek out the manager. He must have known that the manager would support him, and his behavior. So, he continued his talking over me saying aggressively, "I'll get the manager, no, no, you follow me. I'll take you to his office." This manager of the service department was so passive aggressive. I got nowhere with him. I tried to explain my problem - both Brett and the service manager continually cut me off. He ultimately told me, “he had known Brett for five years..." where I replied, "So are you saying I am making this up?" It reminded me of the person that says I've known him for five years, and have never known him to beat his wife. This interaction indicated to me he didn't care, simply because of his statement (I've known him for five years); he wouldn't let me explain my experience, and the fact that he was walking me to his office door. This is before I even had said what I wanted to say. While I was being walked out, I said to the service manager, "I am 50 years old. How many VW's do you think I would have bought in my lifetime?" and told him, "I expect an apology from him (Brett)." I went to pay and get my car.

At this point, I was in disbelief. While I was at the desk to pay, Brett came up, leaned over the desk into my face and said, "I'm sorry you think you've had bad service." I looked at him like he was nuts and said, "that's not an apology." The service manager was behind Brett and I looked around Brett and said, "Do you think that was an apology?" The manager said, "I couldn't hear him." I said, "I expected an apology for how he treated me." Wherein the manager replied, "Well he said sorry." So, I paid and went over to my son to wait for someone to bring me my car. This experience was made worse by the fact that they were treating me that way in front of other customers. I walked over to where my son (Erick) was sitting, and asked if he saw what happened. He replied, yes he saw some of the interaction, and he could not believe it either. He is 22 years old and wanted to talk to the manager himself, because it upset him also.

I said go ahead and walked him to his office. In the office were the service manager, Brett, and a man in a suit. I think that may have been the general manager of Luther VW (Steve Hendricks), but I'm not sure. When Erick tried to talk - they also talked over him. Brett got up and walked toward Erick (again an aggressive action) and argued. Erick said later he could not believe he would get up and walk toward him like that. He tried to tell them what he saw, and said to the manager that he could not believe he was hearing him defend this employee to me. That he (Brett) was rude and had a bad attitude. He told the service manager that to say to me, "well I've known Brett for five years" was paramount to calling me (Martha) a liar, and he was shocked that he would defend his actions against the customer. At some point (again before we even were able finish talking, not that he cared or was listening) the service manager walked toward us so we would back out of his office while he repeated, "Well, were just going to call this a day, and we are done here." Also, when the service manager took my arm to keep we walking, I did not yell, "don't you touch me," as Brett did.

I have included Erick's statement below:

"After emptying the car, I came in to see my mother speaking to employee who quite angrily stated, "Yes, let's go get the manager." In my experience this was not the tone of someone resolving a situation, but escalating it. I ate my food and waited for my mother, who came back and told me about the car wash, and next how the manager had backed his employee. I was so shocked by this response that I wanted to speak to the manager myself. Simply because who has ever heard of a manager blatantly backing an employee to a customer? It's very bad business. I went to speak to him. Rather than getting to speak to the manager, the employee confronted me. He demonstrated what he had done to my mother, and proceeded to get in my face. He never backed up after this. I tried to get an explanation, and at the same time explain getting mad at customers isn't okay.

When I told the employee I had seen his demeanor, he tried telling me how mad my mom was. When I explained how he looked when going for the manager, he admitted, "yeah" he was mad. He proceeded to only get madder; I felt nothing was explained. The conversation was going nowhere, and I believe it's the business’ responsibility to make sure an argument like that comes to some understanding. Finally, I was able to confront the manager on what brought me there, backing his employee unconditionally. I tried telling him that it's bad business, and wanted to ask him why. This is when the manager decided that the conversation was done, saying, "Well, I think we have to agree to disagree, let's call it a day." These are the snidest individuals I have ever encountered in the service industry. I believe they should both be terminated, as they are a liability to your company. Finally, I would like to add that I probably would have called the police; if I had known this man initially chased my mother down to confront her. I'm a pacifist and don't hit people, someone who is not pacifist could have reacted quite differently to such aggressive displays. I left the experience feeling completely berated, when all I had done was go to ask questions, and stick up for my mother. No questions were heard or answered."

I will tell you I am sending this email to cooperate because I believe that may have been the general manager (Steve **) in the service managers office when Erick went back to talk to him. This tells me that supporting the employees over customers and customer service are status quo at VW. I will also tell you as a woman that I was intimidated. The behavior of these men is the reason I never dealt with these problems or service situations when my husband was alive. I found I was often treated badly, and he would just end-up going back to correct the situation. Unfortunately, he died in a plane crash; leaving me and my sons to deal with these unnerving issues. It is sad to see things have changed so little.

I believe that this is the only VW dealership in the twin cities, so I now do not want to go back there. I was looking for another car for my son, but obviously I will not bother with Luther's website anymore, and I sure won't go to the dealer. The question is how I get my car serviced, when I have issues that need to be dealt with by VW (e.g. getting new keys). Due to the aggressive and intimidating nature of this incident, I am contemplating further action. I hope to hear back from your company soon.

I have been bringing my 2009 Jetta for routine maintenance every maintenance. Each time I bring the car in, I tell them that the car is shifting funny. The car jerks far more than a car should and when I give the car gas, it delays a bit before it goes.

I had the transmission serviced at 40,000 (according to schedule) and paid around $500. By the time my car hit 50,000 miles, the car was jerking significantly when it tried to change gears. I would try to accelerate and the car's rpms would increase drastically but the car would delay before picking up any speed.

The check engine light came on this time as well. They are fixing a broken valve in the transmission under the 60,000 warranty but refused to fix the pressure gauge that is malfunctioning and charging me over $400 for it. I find it very odd that the car had a problem (that they tell me they cannot recreate) and when I do my usual routine maintenance, a valve breaks and this pressure gauge has absolutely nothing to do with what I had been complaining about.

I asked to speak to the manager. The service man told me he told the manager to call me but the manager did not. The manager is conveniently out of the office today and they will not let me talk to whoever is in charge nor will they even tell me a name.

I dropped my car off Tuesday afternoon and was promised it Wednesday. They told me Wednesday that they needed another day to order the pressure part and it would be done on Thursday. Today, I called and they do not have the part and the car will not be ready until Friday, assuming the part comes in. They told me today I could come pick up a loaner after not having a car for three days.

I purchased a brand new 2005 Jetta Wagon TDI. The sunroof has leaked into the car within a year of purchase and leaks gallons into the floorboards every time in a heavy rain. The source of the leak is from a dome light behind the sun visor on the passenger side. Volkswagen refused to acknowledge this as a legitimate problem and would not cover any diagnostics or repairs even tough the car was still under warranty. Finally, a recall came in for the sunroof needing regular flushing of the drains.

I had this taken care of and the same leak still exists just as bad. Volkswagen will still not take care of the problem and insists I pay for any issues since the car is no longer under warranty. I have documentation and receipts from the dealership that this has been an ongoing problem. Secondly, my temperature light is always on, no matter the weather, from the moment I start the car until I turn it off. I am so frustrated!

I called the service in Cairo and explained what happened and they answered back that I need to replace the gear box and I have to buy a new one, bearing in mind that my car kilometer age is only 30,000 Kms. In addition to the mentioned above, I would like to inform you that I had purchased my car on 17th February 2010 and from day one I started to hear a high fluctuating knocking noise produced by the gear box while driving.

Consequently, I went to the maintenance service center in Abu-Rawash, where I met with Mr. Ahmed ** who tested my car and told me that such noise is normal in all models that contain a gear box type DSG. To make sure, I went to another service center in automotive Al-Obour, where I met with Eng. Harvy who told me the same, the car Kilometer age was 1800 Kms.

While I am consulting my car in both Abu-Rawash and Al-Obour for gear box check, they discovered a can bus error and they told me that it's a factory error and they did repair it, but the factory didn't make reset for the car software, also they stated that the error's date was at the factory and don't fear about it. Also, they stated that there was no error in the gear box, and by trying to figure out the reason for the transmission malfunction via the internet, I discovered that its an industrial malfunction and it doesn't relate to a bad usage.

April 2nd, 2011, My wife was involved in a frontal impact accident 45 miles from home. She was driving a 2010 VW Jetta 2.5l sedan. The person that caused the accident was driving a 2004 Kia sedan, was struck on the left rear door and rear quarter panel and believe it or not was spun through the intersection. After her air bags went off! The one question that still comes to mind is, Why didn't our air bags go off with a frontal impact? The speed the wife was traveling was around 30 mph. The officer on the scene even told my wife, I cant believe the air bags didn't go off on our car.

Now for the latest accident two days after the car was fixed at body shop, I was moving to the east coast (North Carolina). When traveling through Missouri, I struck a deer @ 5:10 am, traveling at the speed of 68 mph. The car was struck on the same side but more focused on the left central, where as according to the wife's police report was focused on the front, still around the left air bag sensor! I'm glad the wife was not hurt but she stated that one car seat for one our children flew to the front of the car while the second car seat rolled forward into the back of the passenger seat.

Thank god the seats were not occupied with children! It is to bad that the 68 yr old lady went to the hospital after the paramedics arrived, but my wife also went later on to a different hospital to check her self out! From what I was told, the VW sedan that I bought was the best on the road. That's why we bought the car, for the safety features! Two accidents within two months of each other and no deployment of air bags! Both Frontal impacts!

You did not buy from the dealer and/or VW and they do not owe you. Take care of your car and your investment. First I would like to express my severe frustration and anxiety because of my case, I am a very brand loyal customer; however my problem cause me not to think of purchasing any VW vehicle after wards. I had purchased my car on the 28th of May 2009 from a VW authorized dealers names "Adel Gouda Agency". In June 2009 after one month from the car purchase, I had my car fixed at the VW maintenance shop in Abu Rawash because of a fraudulent "control unit", at that time they had to export it from Germany, consequently I had to wait one whole month to have my car again fixed, that was my first impression of a brand new VW vehicle.

My second and main issue of this complaint the one that up until this writing I can't find a solution for is the following: More than a couple of months ago I started to hear a high knocking noise produced by the gearbox while driving, I went to consult the maintenance shop in Abu Rawash, there I met Mr. *** who tried my car and came out of a conclusion and assurance that my car has absolutely no problem and it's performing fine. Despite the fact that I didn't feel good about that response, I decided to go for another professional maintenance shop; hence, I went for a well reputable maintenance company. I met the engineer there and after trying my car, he advised that I have a serious problem with the gearbox and specifically its megatronics. He then offered two solutions for the problem, either I have the spare part imported from Germany which is gonna cost me around EGP 31,000 or have it fixed at the VW maintenance shop, then it will cost around EGP 65,000. Now the case is as follows I purchased my car with around EGP 190,000 I faced two problems in less than two years from the date of it's purchase, the KM reading around only 28,000.

It goes without saying that any shifting or removing of such delicate parts is considered a big deal and immensely decreases the value of resale here in Egypt. At that point I was totally furious and shocked for the level of performance of vehicle that holds the name of respectful and long history brand like Volkswagen. Can you just imagine how disappointed and frustrated I am? After spreading the case amongst my friends and family members, they assured me that it's a malfunctioned car and I should not bear the consequences of such disappointing situation. So I decided to point out and direct my complaint to the international website customer care of Volkswagen in order to have a serious interference in my problem and by please not just forwarding the case to a negligent and incapable customer care here in Egypt. Again and please react to my problem and I do expect all what's good for a very brand loyal VW customer. Awaiting your proper action and feedback.

The 2000 Jetta I bought had a recall for the ECM back in 2002. The work history didn't show the part ever being replaced when I first took it to the dealer in Oakland. When I went back and checked on my own, the file had been updated to show the work was done. But unlike all the other repairs, such as, a recall for a light switch, there wasn't any information about where the repair was done or when.

The information when I called the customer service number also didn't have any relevance. I did receive an offer to go to the Volkswagen’s Company Arbitration Board regarding this issue.

The defective part has caused the same problems. Other electronic parts are wearing out and are being replaced. The car is stalling in traffic. The car is not shifting to drive gear on the freeway. All such issues were noted with the original recall as I was informed by the workers at the IFA garage in Oakland. Apparently, they did some of the repair and replacement work with the car.

I'm definitely looking to get reimbursed for the amount I paid for the car and for the thousands of dollars that went down the drain for repairs, rentals, and lost pay. I can calculate the exact figure when contacted. If possible, I’m also looking for punitive costs because they tried to show the work was done when the reports stated that it wasn't.

I purchased a 2005 Jetta in 2008 and have had nothing but problems ever since. First the trunk would not open or close next the halogen lamps had to be replaced 4 times costing $15.00 each. Then I have had to replace the coolant container and valve which cost $50.00. Next the car would not start as the car would not accept the key. It cost another $400.00. Also, the battery blew up in the car. That was $100.00. In October 2010, the car would not start so I had it towed to the repair shop and was told it jumped timing. Parts amounting to $1800.00 were ordered and I was told the tools to replace the parts were unable to be found. So I had to replace the motor at an extra cost of $500.00, mind you I still owe payments on this car and they are telling me if I turn the car back in, I can still be held accountable for the remainder of the cost.

Three months later, the car was fixed, or so I thought. Now the car would not go into drive and I was told by Volkswagen that the transmission was recalled but I could get a used transmission for $3500.00 Wow! They said it was not covered because it is 8 miles over warranty. Eight miles is what it took to drive the car to find out the transmission is bad. I received a recall for the sun roof but never one for major recalls. This is crazy! People are going broke fixing this mess of a car and something needs to be done. I have been without my car for 3 months because it was in the shop only to find out I have to pay more money. I will never ever again buy a Volkswagen!

Multiple bulbs burning out! It also "jumped timing" and that alone cost over $1,000.00 to repair! Also, problems with the latch on the trunk. Every Jetta owner I know has had the same problems. Why are there no recalls? VW does not stand behind their products and I will never own another. I love to drive my car, I just can't afford the upkeep on it. I bought my VW Jette GLX from a dealership in as is condition about a year ago. I did not look into these cars a whole lot. But what I did find was all good remarks. Now a year and a half later, my poor car is falling apart. I have had issues with all the windows. My two back windows are held up by a steel pole that a friend screwed to the inside of the door, as I couldn't afford to get the regulators. And my passenger window has never been able to roll down all the way or back up without manually forcing it. My driver’s side window regulator has been replaced about a year ago by my husband and now it’s broken again. I've now started looking into the window issues and it seems like you can get a metal clip type window regulator. But will that work?

I've also been having issues with the ignition. When I would try to start it, I would have to jiggle the key to get it to acknowledge that I was trying to start it. I've got the ignition switch to hopefully correct this problem, but have found out that replacing it requires a special tool that no one has. So for the time being, my husband has rigged it to start directly off the battery. I have had weird unexplainable electrical issues as well. None of the electrical issues have ever repeated themselves. But they have made me wonder if my car has a ghost or something as it is so random. Can anyone help me in finding out how to correct these issues or something?

Well, I have a letter in front of me and what am I supposed to believe. I am so darn frustrated! I was just told today when I called that my car wasn't even part of the recall! I told Peggy that was incorrect and after she went back and checked she was in fact incorrect! Then she said that the only thing they reimburse is for the ignition coils themselves but the maintenance guy at VW told me that in order to install new ignition coils, I had to pay for new spark plugs which Peggy again said was incorrect!

Could someone please tell me what is correct! I think it is a big scam and that they don't want to admit fault! Which is what it says in the article on this site from 2003 when they also had a recall on the same thing and my car was brand new! I have looked online and several people have the same complaints, I feel that VW needs to be held accountable for their miscommunications and their dishonesty to consumers! I had to return my car 4 times for repairs within 2 months time of purchasing it. Upon financing my car that I purchased on 7/5/2010, the dealership provided a carfax that did not state any problems with thermostat or electrical on their carfax report. I've did a carfax on 9/20/2010 and found out on June 2010 prior to owning my 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, the used car had a thermostat replaced. This information was not on the car dealer carfax.

They replaced the starter, all the battery cables replaced and have been working with VW Tech Line every time. The dealership suggested an exorcism, which makes me think they have basically given up on the car. Being less than two years old and having less than 30k miles on it, I am very disappointed. I had nothing but good experiences with this car and was looking to buy another VW Jetta wagon this June.

By now I had moved to Maine and went to the local VW dealer in Portsmouth, NH, Seacoast where I had been having my 2001 wagon serviced for four years (I was a preferred customer and the service people were very helpful). But it was deja vu when I went into the salesroom. I knew what I wanted and realized, because of the time of year, I'd probably have to compromise on some of my preferences which I was willing to do. This time, the sales manager told me, "My boss wouldn't want me selling someone else's car for them." He then said he couldn't get me what I wanted until November anyway and turned his back and walked away.

I wouldn't have said anything, but this has twice happened to me. Unless VW is bursting at the seams with buyers, it seems short-sighted. I left the showroom and went out and bought a Mini Clubman that same evening that was ordered from Europe to my exact specifications and was here in three and a half weeks. In the 2006 car, it started separating by the rear seat airbag section, which I addressed with VW America and our local VW dealer, who said this was not going to affect the airbag quality nor have the airbag deploy due to the problem. This is unheard of and the engine was redesigned and replaced with a timing chain in lieu of the timing belt VW had used in the past models of the Jetta. I had to have the following replaced a sensor, position sensor, turbo assembly, housing assembly, five manifold gaskets, five spark plugs, valve cover, tensioner assembly, gasket and timing chain. My bill was $1,926.22 and I was without my car for three weeks.

My mechanic said he spoke to VW mechanics all over the nation and that this problem is starting to occur and they all believe it is going to happen to anyone that owns a Jetta with the new engine design. VW should step up and claim responsibility. I am going to contact an attorney to see if we can file a complaint. Once at University VW in Albuquerque and after several hours of diagnosis, it was recommended that the head be pulled off to check for a blown head gasket or other seals. Dealer also found the main cooling fan to be faulty. The dealer quoted repair prices that were 50% higher than my dealer back in the Portland area. I felt I was being price gouged and opted to dolly my car and tow it the rest of the way to Philadelphia.

I checked my warranty while waiting in Albuquerque and discovered my power train warranty expired 3 weeks earlier. I called VW customer service to ask for help with the financial portion of all this and received an immediate no. As of writing this, the top level contact I have spoken to was Katie ** at VW Corporate, the fourth person up the ladder to immediately say no to any financial consideration. My Jetta is currently at a dealer here in Philadelphia/Ardmore who has pulled the head and now needs to send it in for further inspection to diagnose the cause of the oil/smoke through the exhaust.

My first week here in Philadelphia has been spent trying to resolve this situation. While trying to diagnose the problem at University VW in Albuquerque, the service department there caused further problems I am having to pay for here in Philadelphia and is denying any responsibility. When asking for help from the general manager of University VW, Mike **, to reimburse the costs. he told me I had to "live up to my responsibilities" in regards to not using VW parts after the failure of the water pump/repairs in Monticello--a town of 1700 people.

My goal was always just to get to a VW dealer. VW corporate/warranty has immediately said no right out of the gate to any financial help on this during every conversation. Water pump failures are a very common problem, and VW is just not standing behind their product and customers on this issue. I am now approaching a ripple effect hard cost of $3500 on all this to date. And I have been poorly treated by the VW dealer in Albuquerque and also VW corporate/warranty. There has very recently been a class action lawsuit against VW for another issue, and I feel this water pump issue is worthy of one as well. How many other VW customers/former customers are there out there who have been mistreated addressing VW water pump problems?

In Feb 2008, I leased a 2008 VW Jetta GLI. About one and a half months later, my passenger speaker went out. I took it to VW in Austin TX. The advised me that there was an internal short. They fixed it. However, I took the car back in on Feb 18, 2009 to Valley Imports in Fargo, ND because the same speaker went out and the driver door speaker was not working at full capacity. The first thing they try to do is change the amp. That did not work. Then workers there said they would have to order the speakers. They only ordered for the passenger door. They said the drivers were fine. They obviously did not know how loud the bass speaker was suppose to be. I had to drive almost 300 miles after they received the part to have them replace it. I am on my way home and that's when I realized the speaker was not right in the driver door. I called them and told them. I get set up with another appointment. It took three appointments to get the speaker situation settled, 600 miles round trip for three separate appointments goes against my mileage. I am not getting refunded those miles for something that is not my fault.

Next issue, in 2008 ,my trunk will not open. I tried with the remote key and the button in the car door, neither would open the trunk. Soon as I took it in to the dealership in Austin, it works for them. However, they replaced the trunk latch for me and have not had a problem since. Then my car tells me to stop, oil pressure low turn off engine. I felt the car was consuming too much oil. Valley Imports wanted me to fill it up and watch to see how much oil is being consumed for so many miles and to bring it in. I brought the car in and they first tell me they don't know where the oil is going. They ran some tests and felt that it was a valve.

They changed the valve, however they did not have the hose to complete the job. So then I was asked to come back in when they get the part. I then wasted more miles driving to and from Fargo. After that was fixed, several months later, it happens to me again and I was in Saint Cloud, MN. They had to do the oil test. They changed my oil and told me to come back after 630 miles. I took the car back to Valley Imports because that is when I reached about 630 miles. They said it was fine.

Now today 05/05/2010, my car oil lite came on again. I called customer care to tell them I no longer want the car. I am having too many problems. They said they can't. The only gave me an offer to take the car in to the dealership and a coupon to get a new car. I will be penalized for the one I got. How does that seem fair? So I called the dealership and they said it's normal for the car to be consuming oil. I only drove the car less that 4000 miles since my last oil change. I was given a card about oil consumption and it states the car can consume 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles. I call *** on that. What car would need to consume that much oil for a little amount of miles? The manager Steve at Valley Imports tells me that it is how German cars are made. Whatever. VW doesn't want to take responsibility for an issue that is not logical. No car needs to consume that much oil. I have owned a VW Jetta that did not consume any oil between oil changes. Why is there a problem now?

Some other issues with my car are third cylinder misfire, door would not open when I unlocked the car, the other three did, my stations would erase for my satellite radio and the radio would not go back to the satellite channel. I would have to restart car, my driver window would not go down and my cruise control will not always work. I will have to pull car over and turn off, restart the car and it would then work again.

For a newer model car to have this many issues in only two years, I am afraid I don't know what will happen to me for that matter when all the dealership and company do is fix, fix, fix the car back to manufacturer's specifications. That is only good at that time. They can't guarantee that my car will not have further issues down the road. They are just waiting for the warranty to go out so they will no longer be responsible for what happens to the vehicle. I have missed work to get the car repaired, racked up mileage that goes against the miles I am only granted within the four year lease. The car is unreliable. With these many problems, how can there be any guarantee nothing serious will happen?

I had recently submitted information to Volkswagen regarding their VW Coil Pack recall/reimbursement program. The details for this were at vwcoils.com, as well as in a letter sent to my home, stating that there was an issue with the Coil Packs in my 2004 Volkswagen Jetta GLS 1.8t.

I submitted repair receipts, bank statements, etc. for each of the 2 repairs I had due to faulty coil packs. My repairs totaled over $560. I was aware that the reimbursement would cover parts and labor for the coil packs. The amounts I paid also included diagnostic service. Both times, my local repair shop insisted on replacing the spark plug for the cylinder in question, which this coil pack fits over. During the first repair, I had the repair shop replace all 4 spark plugs at $15 each (since VW's use platinum OEM plugs).

When I was notified of the recall, I submitted all required paperwork. Today (5/3/10), I received my reimbursement check of $160. Even if VW decided not to cover any of the spark plugs (although the replacement of the spark plug on the faulty coil pack should've been covered), I should receive roughly $500 in my reimbursement. I immediately called the VW support line associated with this recall at 1-888-693-9156. I spoke with person named Peggy **. She informed me that the $160 is the amount VW had approved to cover my reimbursement.

Peggy said she reviewed the notes on my case and understood why I am upset, however, this amount was a corporate decision and would be final. Not counting the replacement of spark plugs (which are directly related to this issue), Volkswagen should be accountable for the additional $320 in expenses I've incurred due to this admitted manufacturer's defect. I would like to find out if there are other VW owners who feel completely short-changed by the reimbursement process of this recall and would like to take further action like myself.

I am writing to you in regard to the numerous mechanical and electrical problems that I have had to repair upon leasing and later purchasing a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta. It currently has 46,000 miles and has been nothing but a headache since almost day one. Lately, it seems that I have had to have items repaired on a monthly basis. I purchased it after leasing it due to the fact that I had such low mileage, but had I been aware of the many malfunctions it was yet to face I would never had done it.

After a few months of driving the car I realized that I was getting terrible gas mileage. After bringing it to Life Quality Automobiles of Bayridge, LLC, I was told that the car simply needed to be driven more often and was not repaired. Approximately two years later, I received a letter in the mail stating that there had been a recall on the vehicle for a faulty oxygen sensor which was causing my Jetta to burn enormous amounts of fuel. This leads me to believe that the servicemen who examined the car were negligent not to notice the problem and I was in no way reimbursed for the extra fuel that I had been providing.

In addition, I brought my Volkswagen in to Life Quality Automobiles while it was under warranty to report a terrible smell that appeared upon the first few minutes of operating the air conditioner as well as to complain that the rear window defrost never worked. Once again, I was sent away with no repair to the vehicle with the excuse that it was a problem that many Volkswagens faced and could not be repaired. After a few years of no longer being able to bear the problem, I went elsewhere for repair. This time the problem was fixed and the air conditioning unit was replaced; however, the warranty had expired, forcing me to pay for a problem that was present from day-one out of my own pocket.

Both front grills popped off on their own as a result of normal use. Again, after the warranty expired, the windshield wiper blades had to be replaced and the plastic hinges that keep the door of the glove compartment closed broke and were repaired twice. I have found nuts and bolts come out from beneath the passenger seat as well as a large metal spring (whose use is unclear to me). I have had to replace nearly a dozen different light bulbs (headlights, taillights, vanity mirror light, heating and cooling panel lights, etc.). Also, the socket for the light in the HVAC burned so I can not replace the bulb that burned out there. I was told I would need to replace the entire HVAC unit, yet again.

After noticing a rattling noise when the engine was on, I had it serviced and found that the catalytic converter and its surrounding parts had broke and required replacement. I repaired this at a local mechanic when the car was out of warranty, only to find out that there was a recall on the catalytic converter. After that, there I had to repair a problem with the brake light of the vehicle where it remained on while the car was in motion as well as when the ignition was turned off. This happened intermittently so I was not aware of it for several weeks. A failure to notice and send the vehicle out for repair in a timely manner would have resulted in other, more serious problems, including a possible rear collision. The emergency hazard lights have had to be replaced, the hose for a leaking vacuum line, ignition leads, spark plugs, etc.

Most recently, I have had to replace two of the ignition coils, water pump, air meter, thermostat kit, dipstick tube, driving and timing belts, mid-muffler silencers and clamps; all incredibly expensive repairs. With a car of such low mileage that has been garage-kept, this is almost unheard of. There is still a screeching noise that is heard when the car is coasting or has the gas pressed from 0-15 mph. I have had it checked several times and the cause of that still can’t be determined. I’ve have replaced the radio antenna whose plastic casing wore down and ultimately was stripped way. I have replaced all 4 center caps of the car numerous times since they were designed to peel right off. Apparently, their ease of removal has made them targets for theft when the car is parked at malls, on the street, etc.

In closing, I would like to express my distinct displeasure in having purchased this car and plan to inform anyone considering leasing it of the difficulties and expenses that I have had to endure. This car was purchased over similar cars made by several Japanese automobiles because of its good looks and solid feel, typical of German engineering. Unfortunately the only thing good about the car is its looks (even though it’s missing its front grills and front spoiler). The spoiler was too low to the ground and would get scraped regularly to the point where it was hanging by screws. As a result, it was removed and not replaced for fear of scraping the new one over and over again. Therefore, I am currently driving a stripped-down version of your Jetta. This leaves me with a quandary: should I keep the car because it has 47,000 miles and subsequently face numerous more problems in the future, or should I take a beating and sell it for whatever I can get (considering its condition) and buy something I am sure will be more reliable?

Please feel free to respond at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

As a gift for my younger sister and I (a sort-of moving out present), my mum saved up her first paychecks from her new job at a doughnut shop to buy us our own cars. I had my grandma's old jeep at the time, so I waited until I had to let it go to cash in for the Jetta I couldn't wait to have. I'd seen this guy on TV in a car chase just cruising with his Jetta, steering with his knees, so I was sold. When I found Jamie ** and his shiny silver 2001 Jetta Turbo, I was 9 months pregnant. I ended up actually having the baby before I bought it from him, took my dad with me and everything thinking this guy wouldn't try to rip off a pregnant 22-year old and her pops.

Well, I was wrong. He said he wanted to get rid of the car because he'd just had his second kid and it was too small. He lied on two accounts. I found out later that Jamie had in fact put CLR under the hood because he knew the engine was about to go out and didn't want us to notice. There's no way that guy has two kids; after one you would know how expensive they are and how impossible it is to afford a used engine swap for $4,500 when your baby isn't even a year old yet. Oh, and did I mention that nobody wants to touch my car because it's German? And that the engine has 85,000 miles? I can't find anybody to work on it. $4,500? From all the bad reviews I read here, I think I might just scrap the piece of ** for the measly $200 in parts and save myself future heartache. Shame on you, Jamie ** for taking $6,700 of my mum's hard earned money.

I have had to replace all four of the engine ignition coils in my 2002 VW Jetta. I was extremely dissatisfied with this car, when these coils continued to need replacing, and in less than a year, spent approximately $700 replacing them. I know I would never buy a VW again, until they announce a recall. I was told I would be reimbursed for the costs I incurred in fixing these coils. I had renewed faith in VW, because they were taking responsibility for this problem.

After several months of sending paperwork to get my reimbursement check, I received a check for less than half the amount I had spent on these repairs. My check was for $295.00. When I called to ask why the check was so small, I was told that this was the policy of Volkswagen's corporate office. I am appalled that they chose to reimburse me for so little because if these coils had gone out after the recall was announced, I would not have had to pay a dime for the service. They also chose to reimburse me for so little because I had not had the repairs done at a VW dealership.

I could not afford to have the work done at a VW dealership, because their fees are outrageous. VW should take responsibility for this issue, and reimburse me for what I actually had to pay for the repairs. At this point, I would warn everyone not to purchase a Volkswagen of any type. The repairs cost me so much money in such a short period of time, which left our family strapped for money, when we needed it for important things.

The car was engulfed in flames in minutes and totally destroyed. There was no problem with the car immediately before the deployment of the air bags. Also, there was no indication of a problem with the car prior to the deployment.

When I placed my gym bag in the truck, there was no smell or any other issues with the truck. Other than my gym bag and work bag, the only other thing in the truck was a new marine boat battery that I was transporting to my boat. There was no sound of any explosion prior to the deployment. The car was engulfed in flames in minutes and totally destroyed. I lost everything in the car and find that my insurance company must pay, which means I have a deductible for the car and my personal effects from another insurer.

I have a 2001 VW Jetta 1.8 Turbo with 80k miles. I just bought it three months ago as a used car. Two weeks go by and the EPC light comes on and the check engine light. I take it to the dealership I bought the vehicle from and they tighten the hoses, etc. The lights go away and I drive off. The car runs well for about two days. EPC light comes back on but no check engine light and now, the traction light is on. It kicked into reserve power and I'm on the highway and it's ridiculously not safe. I take the car to the nearest shop and they tell me that the battery is basically dead and I need a new battery.

Well, I guess so after nine years. You would think that the dealership would replace a battery with only 10% life before they sell a car. So I pay $150 for a battery. The car runs fine for about another two weeks. The check engine light comes on and there's a loud knock under the hood. At first, I thought it was the catalytic converter because it was so loud. The dealership has me bring in the car. I get there and they immediately acknowledge that the hydraulic tensioner broke--which also caused the timing belt, water pump, oil cylinders and oil pan cover all needed to be replaced.

Luckily, there was a warranty on the car with the dealership for 50/50. I paid $600 out of pocket to have all of those things fixed by a local mechanic at my local dealership. For the past week my VW Jetta purrs like a kitten. I also had a problem where it seemed like the oil was running out quicker than usual. Hopefully, replacing the oil cylinders helps. I do have a lot of cosmetic issues like interior peeling, front bumper falls off, front driver and passenger windows stick and have ruined the tint, the crayon smell, defrost button is missing and I can't find the part to replace it. But I did buy this car to play with and just fix it up as a play toy. Good luck with your VW.

Within a few months of purchasing a new Jetta TDI (at full price) the paint started peeling off the radio knobs. We took it in to the dealer who replaced the radio under the warranty and said he would replace it with one that did not have the paint on it. When we picked the car up, it had been replaced with the same style radio. They claimed that was all they could get under the warranty.

All fine and dandy, we tried to be extra "careful" with the knobs at that point and within 2 years, the same thing happened again. Now the car is out of warranty by about 2,000 miles and they will do nothing to replace or repair the radio. Obviously, this is a huge issue as many folks are having the same complaint. Volkswagen should recall those radios and replace them.

I recently purchased a 2009 Jetta TDI. When I say recently I mean 4 months ago. I had an incident where I bought fuel from a service station, and got water in the fuel. I took the car in--correction I towed the car in to Casey for service. Well the car of course did not run, so they had to diagnose why the car wouldn’t run. Well, after 3 weeks in the service department they finally determined it was water in the fuel. They initially said that they could not figure out why the car wouldn’t start. Now remember these guys are trained VW mechanics. Well, they said they would remove the tank and flush it out to remove any contaminants, then try to start the car. This was quoted to cost over $1100.

This supposedly was unsuccessful in starting the car, so they consulted with Germany via tech-line and determined the next course of action was to completely replace the fuel system from the tank back at a cost of over $10000. Now remember I just got this car 4 months ago from this very same dealership, so I was frustrated at this point. So I suggested to trade the car in and just forget about repairing it. The dealership that I just bought this car from 4 months earlier offered me $3500 for the car I just bought from them for $28000 4 months earlier!

Volkswagen offered no help in this matter and was rather short with me over the whole situation, explaining to me that even though you have a fuel filter that costs over $350 it does not filter water out of the system. Well, what does it filter then? I would never recommend VW to any one nor even my worst enemy, and I would definitely never recommend Casey VW. To not even stand by there product or the consumer is appalling. My insurance ended up getting involved and repaired the car at a cost of $8600. This car left me on the side of the road on the way home from work. I was without my car for almost 2 months and if I had to pay out of pocket for these repairs, it would have devastated me. There has got to be some kind of help or recourse for the way these people treat there customers. I feel as if my whole experience with VW has been ruined, considering that this was my first VW—and my last.

My Fiance and I leased our 2002 Jetta in 2001. Thought it was our only option, we were young with very little credit history. Well it is now 2010 and we are still paying for this car! Two weeks after buying this car things started to happen. Minor issues at first that were covered under warranty, The first major issue was a coil wire in the rear window burnt out so we took it to the service department where they soldered it back together.

About a month later while I was driving on the freeway (with my infant daughter in the back seat), I turned on the rear defrost and the window blew out! Shattered! All over my child, me and the car. Let me list some more, after that brake sensors, gas cap sealant, oh and this one was great! Go to leave for work, my car was stuck in park. Will not go into any gear. Had the car towed to Lithia, they told me nothing was wrong.

Another day, the same thing happened, I had the car towed 4 or 5 different times! They kept telling me nothing was wrong. Well it was in and out of the shop 12 different times due to it sticking in park. They basically told me I was crazy! Yeah I wasted how many hours on bringing this to you?

Finally the last time I took it there they said it was because the shift lock sylinoid was saturated in soda, and they were not going to cover it under warranty. Well we had it replaced anyways cost us $400.00 .For a while it would still stick, took it back, they said it was fine. Whatever! In between that issue some other things went wrong, maybe little, but after being in the shop more than we drive it? A year later at 52000 miles (our warranty ran out at 50000) guess what happened? Oh the transmission went out yep! Hm. Did that have anything to do with it sticking in park 47xs?

Well after fighting with them they agreed to replace it only if we paid $600.00 out of our pocket. So frustrated, I needed the car. I was 7 months pregnant with our 2nd child. Okay, so transmission replaced thought it would be good for a while, boy we were wrong! Since then, we had replaced the tires 3 times, water pump, timing belt, sensors, batteries, fuses.

Engine light is on now as I write this, we have to take it in tomorrow because of it, the tags expired in November and we are running on trip permits because it will not pass smog. I had the oil changed the other day, and the technician gave me three codes, a speed sensor, crank position sensor, and an over-boost sensor; whatever those are?

Afraid to even drive the car to the shop (the car dies while driving down the road, and the steering wheel locks up). It is probably going to cost us an arm and a leg to fix! We have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on this car we have paid the original price four times over. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the EPC light came on while on the freeway today lost a lot of power, almost wrecked.

Needless to say, this car has been in Lithias shop 32 times, not to mention the 10 times we had taken it to someone else and it always had problems. Please take it from us, I will never recommend anyone to buy/lease a Volkswagen! Save your sanity. Spent thousands of out of pocket dollars on this car, and its always something else! So much stress, and anxiety.

I am in lease with a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. I have had the car for 14 months and since I've had the car, I spent $250 to do the alignment after only having the car for less than 6 months. VW told me it was my fault! I have also had 4 blowouts with the factory installed rims that are 17inches and use Michelin tires of 225/45/17s in size. The biggest gripe I have about this car is that as a consumer, I was very misled about this car. I live in New York City and it is full of potholes. This car cannot and will not handle a pothole! If you hit it, you will blow a tire and it will cost you over $200 plus instillation to repair and odds are you will be in need of an alignment after a blowout.

Also, this car makes a front end noise that squeaks! I have taken it to VW twice for this matter and have hit walls with them. They oiled something and a day later, the sound is back. I think that this body frame of the car is unable to handle the dynamics put out by the turbo engine and the largest of the rims, it's just not what it's supposed to be so it just ends up having problems. At this point, I have given up putting new tires on this car and have resorted to just putting a mismatched tire on the back end because sooner or later, it's going to blow out again and I'll have to replace it but at least this time, it will be $90 instead of $250!

The worse thing is leaving home for work in the morning only to find a flat tire on your car then having to call work and add stress to my life over something so **. This car has put me in the poor house! I give up. I simply drive with fear avoiding every single pothole. I pay the lease each month and count down the day when I can turn it back to VW and go buy a car that doesn't blow --literally. If anyone can help, please let me know! I have records of all such incidents that have occurred. VW has refused to help me, all they want to do is charge. I fear that when I am on the expressway, I'll have a blowout and lose control, maybe crash.

Well, I have had nothing but engine lights coming on, having trouble getting this car registered and/or inspected each year because a new light comes on every few months that needs to be fixed. If it is a $10 part, the engine needs to be disassembled to be fixed; if it is an easy fix (O2 sensor--not yet fixed), it is a $250-$300 part. I cannot afford this constant stuff. It actually costs like $500-$1000 a year to get it registered. Lousy gas mileage now, headlights are "out" that aren't really out; taillights? We purchased the 2005 Volkswagen Jetta new from Quality Mazda/Volkswagen in Tuscaloosa, AL in 2005. This was our third Jetta but it will be our last VW period. This car has the 2.5 liter five-cylinder engine. It is not turbo-charged, although the sales staff thought it was (?). To start with, the air filter is a major undertaking to change and parts for this engine in general are scarce and expensive. The tires are the 16" low profile (255/55?) and have had to be replaced all around four times in the 75,000 miles the car has, wear, bad rims, you name it. But really bizarre, at about 40k miles, the tumbler turned inside the cylinder of the ignition lock, resulting in a $600 repair, which VW split 50/50.

The service manager agreed he had seen only one very old Jetta do that before. The electrical system is possessed. It burns out the halogen headlamps on the right side about every four months, only one on the left. The dash warning lights, flashers and other electrical accessories come on and off without any notice or reason. This car has never been under water, go figure. Recently, the catalytic converter internals separated from the cartridge. One can expect to spend as much on maintenance as payments! The dealer and VW America could care less. This car was assembled in Mexico from German (and other source) components. I have owned many cars and have had great service from some and misery from others, but never the truly weird problems as with this vehicle.

My '06 VW Jetta's headliner is almost completely coming down partially blocking my rear window. This began with small pulling apart at the seams about a year ago and I neglected to tell the auto service in April '09. It wasn't a huge noticeable issue and I simply forgot. My mileage was 51,000 in April of '09 at that time. They refuse to pay to fix it because now my mileage is 67,800. This is the first opportunity I've had as a single working mother to begin addressing it as it is now absolutely dangerous.

During the last several months, it has completely separated from the seams at the light fixtures on the ceiling and sides and is hanging completely down. This problem began at the start of the year right about the 50,000 mileage. (The car was only 2 1/2 years old.) The 4-year warranty time is May 1st, 2010. Due to my rural location, I put on about 1500 miles a month average. This problem has nothing to do with mileage but a fault with the interior design. I had a VW Rabbit years ago with this same problem.

The VW case manager (Ryan) acknowledged that this is a typical problem in warm humid areas. However, nothing was mentioned about it at the time of purchase. There is also no dealer on this island. There is only one authorized service center which I only found out about earlier this year. It will cost about $800 plus tax to fix. I cannot afford it and it's a safety hazard. All I want is for them to pay to have it fixed. I believe that since this started when the car was not even 3 years old and is intolerable at 3 1/2 years old, VW is responsible for paying for it to be fixed.

Then the auto windows stopped working. No big deal, it was only $800 to get VW to fix it. I went to a junkyard and replaced it for $150. Okay, stuff happens even at 25,000 miles. Then the trunk lid opener stopped working. Oh, no big deal, how about another $600? If it is what we think it is, if not, it will be more. Screw it! I now tie it down until I find out how to repair it myself. Oh well, stuff happens. Then all, not just a few, but all of the dash button covers peeled off. Oh well, stuff happens but this time they don't even have a repair for it. They said maybe in a few more years. Do I need to say anymore? I can but you get the idea. This German car must have been made in the US. Stay away. I sure will!

I have a 2003 VW Jetta 1.8T, which I purchased brand new. I kept up with the maintenance and never had any real issues until the last year or so. Last October (2008) is when all the major repairs started filtering in. This past July (2009), my check engine light came on; it started flashing when I was on my way to work. I checked my manual, and it said that was an indication that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced and that it was harmful to my engine if I drove my car. I ended up towing my car to the dealer and they said that the issue was only an engine coil.

A couple hundred dollars later - relieved that my bill was cheaper than what I had originally anticipated - I was on my way. Within a month, the engine light came on again! This time it wasn't flashing, and I took it to the dealer. They said that this time it was the catalytic converter and other things such as the timing belt. After paying $1,900, I had a car and an empty savings account.

Today, 2 and 1/2 months later, my check engine light just came on. And when I started my car this morning, it felt like it was going to stall. In fact, my car had felt like it would stall before, a few years ago, and the price wasn't cheap to fix that either. Who knows what is going to cost me to fix it. I don't understand how my check engine light can keep coming on and no one seems to be catching the problems.

I am purchasing a 2004 Jetta GLI Turbo from Gossett Motors of Germantown, TN. This car's emissions pump went out after about 9 months of ownership. Earlier this year, in May or June 2009, my car started hesitating and almost stopping. I went to go to work one morning and my car would not start. I called the dealership and they took my car in to dealership. I was told that my car has two water pumps. One of my pumps had gone out. It needed to be replaced. It cost me $600+. I paid and drove my car home. I started noticing that dash lights were coming on - oil light. I took my car back to the dealership of Germantown to check out the light coming on. They checked the oil and stated that I had oil in my car and that all was good.

My car then burned the fuse out that sits on top of turbo charger. It burned it up. I called the dealer and it was towed to Gossett at another location. They replaced the fuse. Now this was right at the 4th of July weekend and I had plans to go out of town. I picked my car up and was told that all was wrong with it was the fuse. I was not charged. I drove home and just before I turned into my subdivision, the oil light came on again. I turned and took it to the dealership where I purchased it. They insulted me with the question of, "Do you have oil in the car?" I stated yes. They went out to check and stated yes, you have oil in your car. They did not know what was wrong.

I told them that I was going out of town. They stated that the car should be fine. I told them that I had just picked it up from the other location. I was told that I needed to take it back to that location if I felt there was a problem. I stated that all my issues began at this location and only because the towing company that this dealership use took my car to the wrong location. I was not aware of that until it was there. I decided to go on my trip. The car broke down 3 hours away. I had to have it towed back home. $700+ to get it home. The dealership stated that I need a motor and turbo charger. I hate this dealership. They refuse to take responsibility for their negligence. Pressure test should have been done when the water pump was replaced.

I wish all of us could file a class action suit. Their customer service is horrible. I will never buy another Volkswagen. I have a broken car sitting in my driveway and still owe one more year of payments. Something needs to be done for the customers.

Unfortunately, after I shipped my car to Egypt 2 months ago, I had a terrible accident and i choose to repair at VW sole agent in Egypt. However, this is a starting point of my dramatic sad story began… The car was received on the 8th of October and it’s been there now for more than 45 days, keep in mind that according to the their expectations it should not take more than 2-3 weeks if parts are available… Deposit was paid as requested, after a month they advised that some parts such as (airbags, sensors & seatbelt) are not available and what they can do is proceed with changing mechanical parts (*should not take 2 weeks since the mentioned parts are available) so I can receive the car until the other parts are delivered and this should not take than more than 2 months…. Consequently, till now I did not receive the car mechanically repaired and each and every time they claim ridicules reasons, such as unavailability of wheel alignment device, or the unorganized supply chain to get the required parts from warehouses , delays of handling the car due to personal leaves etc… As for the other spare parts requested (unavailable stock) , the concerned department advice at the beginning that parts should not take more than 2 from order placement and request me to pay another deposit, and am quite sure that till now no progress has been achieved yet.

I was told by this facility that in order for VW to warranty the replacement of the CAT for free, I would have to have the Mass Airflow Sensor replaced as well. If this is the case, shouldn't the sensor be covered under the warranty as well? So it's only a $400 repair instead of a $1000 repair.....My thinking is that if ONE part is bad and caused another part to go bad, shouldn't they BOTH be covered? Also, should leather seats be falling apart after onlyu 70,000 miles? This seems very soon. Is VW using cheap parts so their cars fall apart sooner than they used to? I have a 2005 VW Jetta Value Edition. I do not recommend ever buying a Volkswagen. I bought this car in January of 09 because I found out I was pregnant and needed a reliable car that would not need much repair for a while. The first car I owned was a 1986 Jetta and drove it until it had a good 300,000 miles on it. Naturally I thought another Jetta would be a good idea, not the case at all. With only 60,076 miles on it and just 4 years old I am having to put in $8,800 worth of repairs. The timing chain broke and bent most of the valves in the engine. This is not a repair due to lack of maintenance as a timing chain does not need maintenance. My power warranty which ended at 60,000 miles only 76 miles over, would have covered this cost completely. When I confronted VW about this they offered to pay 100% labor and 50% parts. Which was great but still left me with $4,000 to come up with. I've owned the car for 9 months and bought it for $8,500 and am now already putting half as much as I bought it for into it. When I spoke to one of the so-called executives she told me she was sorry for the burden but this was the only offer they could extend and I'm lucky their even doing that. Now I have 5 good friends who work at a large dealership in my area and said in this case they would honor the warranty to the fullest extent. So I told her that and also told her if this was all they could do for me then I would never buy a VW again and would be getting rid of mine. At that statement she revoked the offer they made and stuck me with the full cost of repairs. Pretty Childish! Point is, after this happened I did much research about other VW consumers and have not found even one person happy with their VW or their customer service. Save yourself time, money and hassle and NEVER buy a VW!!!

Warning to all: Never buy a Volkswagon Jetta unless you can afford the many and costly engine repair/expenses for items that are not normal wear and tear (started year 3 of owning the car). Whoever heard of needing an engine rebuild/replacement for a 6 year old car with only 85K miles on it? Apparently this is normal for VW Jetta since the other articles on this website indicate that many Volkswagon owners are experiencing the same issues. In January 2006 I purchased a used 2002 VW Jetta 1.8 Turbo from a dealership. From the moment I got the car I constantly had problems with the car. The brakes constantly squeaked and needed to be fixed, then the brake light wouldn’t shut off. Then my check engine light would go on all the time. They were “random” misfires that couldn’t be explained. My car then started leaking oil all over the driveway. I had to get the oil pan fixed. One day I was getting something from my center storage unit and the snap just fell right off.
Later I invested in getting the timing belt replaced as well as the water pump. My car at this point had 102,000 miles on it. My mechanic said that around this time is when the water pump and timing belts need to be replaced. So $1000 later my car seemed to be running fine, until a few months later when again my check engine light went on, random misfires again. Had some hoses replaced which cost another couple hundred dollars. Later I had to get my O2 sensor replaced. Then a few months later my car was overheating while I was driving it. It was being sluggish and my airconditioner stopped working. This was all related since a fuse melted my spark plug box (or something like that). So the mechanic fixed that. A few weeks later my driver side seat belt unwound and would not retract anymore. Now it is completely out. I called VW of America because I felt that this was a safety defect. Since I do not have a warranty on my car since I bought it used, they said there was nothing that could be done and said I could go to the dealer and replace it for $400 plus the cost of labor. Really not helpful at all. A few weeks later I had to renew my car registration and while I was opening the glove compartment, the handle for my glove compartment snapped off. That would cost another $100 to fix. For the past month intermittently I have noticed that my car was having some problems upshifting. It wouldn’t do it all the time, but just certain times. It had been loud and idling loud. Again the check engine light went on. I needed some hose to be replaced. I got those all replaced hoping the car would drive fine. The mechanic didn’t notice anything to be wrong with the transmission. Then I drive it and the same problem happens, now he says it could be my transmission. I took it to a transmission specialist and they quoted me at $3,000 to fix the transmission and recode my key, because now my key isn’t being recognized by my car and it will periodically not start. It is frustrating that for issues like the seat belt and the transmission going out aren’t covered at all, this is also a safety issue. My car will shake if I put it in reverse. It is beyond loud once I start it. Overall I am extremely frustrated by my entire experience with my car. I am currently “upside down” on my car loan. Since I bought the car used and it has cost me so much money fixing it and maintaining it. I am beyond frustrated and upset. I will NEVER ever buy a VW car again. The customer service department at VWOA is the absolute worst. For the issue about the seat belt that is a safety issue, if this had happened to a Honda then Honda would have replaced the seat belt at no cost, because if affects the safety of the passenger. Now I have the dilemma, do I fix a car that isn’t worth it, or do I try to purchase a new car (but how do I do that when I owe more than the car is worth and the car isn’t even drivable at this point).

I first started having problems about 6 months after I got the car. The engine light comes on constantly usually with the code: "running too rich". While this running too rich code has been addressed many times it still continues to light up for a few days and dissapear for a few wks. I have gone through 4 batteries, 6 engine coils, a timing belt, 2 water pumps, 2 fuel pumps, 2 mass airflow sensors, 2 brake like switches, a new wire harness, countless sparkplugs, the wireing mechanism that keeps the fan in my engine going, and the list goes on. My air conditioner has stopped working about three times, and I have taken my car in for a few of the same problems countless times. The dealership and my current mechanic can never give me a straight answer as to why my car keeps having the same issues. My car, when running "normally", sounds like a diesel engin for the first minute the car is started everyday. If you don't let the car warm up until the noise goes away, the car jerks and shakes if in reverse or drive. As far as cosmetic concerns, the interior has a foul crayola smell that sticks to you if you're in the car for even two minutes. The plastic inside is peeling, the window switches must be replaced constantly, my sunroof leaks, my passenger side door leaks at the bottom if the car goes through the carwash or if it rains.

My father, brother and family friend drove my 2005 Volkswagen TDI Jetta from Phoenix, Arizona to Chicago, Illinois in June 2008. I bought the car brand new with 32 miles on. However, in New Mexico the car started to smoke and then broke down. The car was towed to the Volkswagen dealership in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After three days, the service man at the Volkswagen dealership told my father that they could take the car as is. However, my father said that he did not feel comfortable taking the car until it was completely fixed. The dealership had the car for over five weeks before finally getting it fixed to continue its way back to Chicago. However, during the time the car was in the University Volkswagen in New Mexico, the service department did not call when promised to call my father on the updates of the car and we went through my extended warranty company when Volkswagen’s warranty should have been covering the expenses (my car was under the mileage and was kept under proper care to maintain Volkswagen warranty). Additionally, Volkswagen kept telling my father the car would be ready and then would push back the date.

My father went to New Mexico on two occasions when they said the car was ready and both times the car was not. During one time he went there, he drove the car for a test drive and it broke down. Additionally, my parents contacted corporate and they were rude and they not listen to the consumer (us). Instead, they said they would be unable to help us. Volkswagen proved to have horrible customer service. When the car was in New Mexico, Volkswagen never offered to take out the suitcases and ship them (I moved to Chicago with one suitcase assuming my car was going to be there in a week). Volkswagen never offered a rental car; I had to rent my own car in Chicago and they never helped my father with all the expenses of the towing, hotel, and car rental in New Mexico.

Finally, the car made it to Chicago and it seemed that it was working. However, on January 13, 2009, the car broke down on my way home from the train station. I had to sit in my car when the temperature was 4 degrees Fahrenheit and wait for the tow truck. I got it towed to Danrich. On January 16, 2009 the manager of Dantich recommended having Volkswagen fix the car. We then had the car towed to Volkswagen. I did not receive my car back until February 11, 2009. I called Volkswagen on January 31, 2009 to check on the car and the man told me they ordered the part, but that it had not arrived. On February 2, 2009, I went to Volkswagen and was told by an employee that the wrong starter arrived and they had to order another starter, but it was on back order. My starter was not even the initial problem and was working when I last had to car. Volkswagen eventually realized that the car was broken more than just the starter (I believe they broke the starter from turning the key and cranking the defaulted engine).

At this point in time Volkswagen assumed I put in the wrong oil in my car because the oil light was on. However, I have always put in the warranty oil and I had just had my oil changed in October. On February 14, 2009, I was driving to the city and the car broke down again. I got the car towed from downtown to Orland Park Volkswagen. On February 16, 2009 Volkswagen decided that the car needed a new engine. They realized that the fuel was getting into the oil. The car was not finished until February 27, 2009. A few days later the car broke down again. This time it would not shift into gears. Volkswagen stated that a part was missing in the transmission, but that they had nothing to do with it because they only work on the engine. I never once touched the transmission or opened my hood. The last people inside my car were the servicemen in Volkswagen and wouldn’t they have had to touch my transmission since it was right next to my engine that they put in? I was charged with this expense since no warranty would pay for it. The engine that was put in February should have been replaced when the car first broke down in New Mexico. They tried to "patch" things up and keep the expenses low, but in essence the expenses became great because the car was never fixed correctly.

I am disgusted with Volkswagen. They committed fraud with my warranty company when they should have been paying for the expenses and I had additional expenses when I should not have had the expenses due to their negligence. I used to love my car, but I would never buy another Volkswagen again and I would never recommend the car to anyone else. I have all the paperwork and documentation saved because I would like to see a lawsuit develop against Volkswagen. I have been fighting to get them, but I hope others will help. I do not know what else to do, but I hope that someone will show them that what they are doing is not ethically right.

First off, I'd like to give other Jetta owners some advice, from quick cheap fixes I've had. If you're having a problem with the car starting in humid or wet conditions, put a plastic baggie around your coil pack with some zip ties. You can verify that this is the problem by watching it arc in the dark. The other problem could be the distributor cap, which can arc out if it gets wet. Simply wiping off the moisture and then using hairspray or some silicon coating will help prevent a recurrence.

With my 1998 Volkswagon Jetta, we used to have major problems in the rain, humid conditions or in the car wash. Any moisture would start the car bucking and jerking. Sometimes, the car would die out completely and not start for hours. This has since been resolved. Other issues have been drain plugs getting clogged for the A/C; the passenger side door doesn't open in the cold and the wiper lever was worn down to the point that I have to push on it to stop the wiper blades from going; also, other minor cosmetic issues such as the door lock knobs breaking easily. Other than that, it has just been maintenance issues associated with the car. I have not had such major problems as those above have had.

Ever since I bought my VW 2003 Jetta 1.8T, I have had nothing but troubles with this car. I had to replace the entire engine at 62k miles. At 85,000 miles, my check engine light and oil light came on. According to the dealer, my oil level was low and just needed an oil change. I was told to top it up at 2,000 miles. Well, at about 1,990 miles, the oil pressure light is back on. I checked my oil gauge and it was full. I did it several times and it was full. I called VW to complain about it and I was told to bring the car in the next business day. While driving back, less than a 1/4 mile after the light came on, the car started making a cranking sound and I ended up having to get it towed back to my house. Apparently, I have an oil pump problem. I refuse to replace an entire car engine twice between 30 miles. That is ridiculous. I have read several complaints about sludge and oil pump problems by VW and someone must hold them responsible. I am always at the dealer every 3 months. I have just read that the oil pump should be changed at 40,000 miles or thereabouts to prevent this. Well, this was never mentioned to me.

I have a 2001 Jetta GLX VR6. I bought it used in June of 2007 with about 67,000 miles. I fell in love with the car right away, but have since then regretted purchasing such a crap-pile. The knob on the driver's door that adjusts the side mirrors/mirror heater snapped off right after I bought the car. The handle to the glove box also snapped off. Recently, my car started misfiring. I took it to a garage that could plug it in and tell me what's wrong. They said it was a misfire, cylinder 4. Thinking it was time for the spark plugs to be changed, I did so. It didn't help a bit. I tried fuel injector cleaner, still nothing. I'm going to have to get new wires next and try that. They start at about $100. If it's not that, the next step will be the engine coils and after that, it was coded as "a major engine malfunction".

Luckily, I don't have to pay labor. My boyfriend went to school to work on cars. To top it all off, I went to my car after work and the rear view mirror looked like a lava lamp. The auto dim fluid somehow leaked. It was a pain to deal with, but then it started leaking onto my interior and spotted the leather on the passenger seat. I honestly will never buy another VW again. Ever. I had better luck with my 1996 Saturn SL1, which is truly sad. Luckily, I paid the car off last year. It's extremely frustrating to be told that VW are such dependable and long lasting cars. They are not. I would never ever recommend a VW to anyone, not even my worst enemy.

We do not want another VW as everyone we have test drove except for one TDI Wagen has the same vibration. Why would we want the same problem in a different Volkswagen? They are currently saying we would have to go outside of Volkswagen for a resolution. Also, our cruise control has stopped working intermittently, all this on a 2009 vehicle. I have stopped making my payments on the vehicle since I have been paying for a product that is not the quality of my expectations. I would go as far as to say this car is a lemon.

Spark plugs are supposed to stay exactly where you screw them until you unscrew them. Or are you supposed to check the spark plugs every 10,000 miles to be sure they are still screwed in to full depth and firmness? What's the deal with this?! I have a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI. A year ago, I had trouble with the EGR valve. It is a $600+ repair. And I was told that although it is required by EPA as part of the emission control system, it is not covered by Volkswagen under their warranty for that system. I was told that no damage would occur to the car if I chose not to do the repair at that time. Now I am replacing that part, and am eating the expense. (Is it just a coincidence that Volkswagen had to issue a recall for the 2004-2005 EGR valve, or do we see a pattern of negligence in their design?)

Meanwhile, the warranty ran out on the car and now I also have a bad cam. Volkswagen's attitude? Oh well. Too bad. So sad. This is their attitude even though the service folks suggest that the part was faulty to begin with and it just took time for the fault to show up. Don't even get me started on the shoddy interior upholstery which started falling apart after only 2 years and the radio buttons which are melting in front of my face. Then of course, there is the trunk latch which has not worked properly from the day I brought the car home. No amount of complaining has ever gotten any service for that and now they tell me that it is a common problem for the latch (a $250 repair if I remember correctly) to go south. I am disgusted with this auto manufacturer and will never buy one of their vehicles again.

I’m not sure yet what the cost of cam replacement will be. I am estimating in the $2,000 range before all is said and done. The EGR valve is now over $700. I am working to convince the service people that they can eat the cost of the trunk latch. Ha! I doubt I'll get anywhere with that. I probably won't bother to fix it, or will look on-line to see if it is a repair that I can get my brother to work on with me.

I join the legions of complainants about the many, many problems we are dealing with in what I perceive to be faulty design/manufacturer parts in my own 2001 VW Jetta. I am miffed as to why VW is not held accountable, what with this amount of incidents.

My own include: interior paint peeling when the car was 6 months old, faulty ignition wires, faulty trunk latch (I've had to replace it twice; that would be three trunk latches when you include the one it came with), problems with door locking mechanism, faulty temperature gauge part, faulty mass airflow, faulty hazard lights, failed turn signals, faulty brake lights, catalytic converter failure just past the covered period mandated by Federal Law, faulty lighting in trunk area (not a bulb). Some of these problems had "Technical Service Bulletins" from VW, but no consideration if the car was out of warranty. VW should, at the very least, give some concession when these problems occur just past the warranty.

VW corporate has constantly "disowned" their product and the responsibility inherent in manufacturing and promoting such vehicles. Although they eventually reimbursed me for the hazard lights, turn signals, and mass airflow valve, it was not without much aggravation and letter writing on my part.

I'm writing in response to a series of issues I have had in the past three and a half years owning my Jetta TDI 2006. On its second year, the flywheel was replaced. I was told at the service center that the clutch needed to be replaced. I challenged the associate asking if 30,000 miles was a normal amount of time to replace your clutch. He told me that yes, it happens often when you ride the clutch. I've been driving a manual transmission for 20 years and I do not ride the clutch. He told me it would break in 7,000 or more miles. I am now 20,000 miles later and it is still working.

At this same service (flywheel replacement), I mentioned that the door locks weren't working all the time. They told me they couldn't find anything. Keep that statement in mind while I tell the rest of the story. This year, the front end was shaking. I took it to the dealer and he told me I needed two new tires. I told him the trunk was broken and the door locks weren't working all the time. I purchased two front tires and got a new trunk lock put on. They said the door locks were okay.

This week (6/8/09), I went to get gas. The gas door would not open. I had to have the car towed to the dealer. The associate tells me the door harness needs to be replaced. Inside the door, the wires were pinched and broken, a factory defect at assembly. This is the cause of the past year and a half of the door locks not working, but since the car isn't under warranty by a couple of hundred miles, I have to shell out $700 to get a new door harness.

I'm livid. I have had nothing but problems and no one is very helpful. I was blown off three times when I asked about the electrical problem (when the car had a warranty) and now that it is up, they decide to find it. I love my car but I can tell you I will never buy another one. The problems and people I have had to deal with, making assumptions about my driving abilities and lack of customer care is enough to say that VW isn't worth the trouble. I should not have had to pay for a factory defect.

Now, they are telling me that my clutch is slipping. I don't know whether to believe them or not. I don't feel a difference. I can't trust the judgment of my professionals at the following VW Dealers: Trend VW in Rockaway, NJ; Young's VW in Easton, PA (where we bought the 2006 TDI Jetta). I feel like I have been taken advantage of and I'm helpless to do anything about it. I should be compensated for the door harness and the lack of respect from VW employees that I have had to put up with the past three and a half years. I'm very disappointed with the company when I use to hold it dear to my heart.

I now own a 2001 Jetta. Last year, the same problem arose with the front doors. I once again had to have the work performed for a cost of $500.00. Now, the rear doors are not closing. As you can imagine, I'm at my wit's end. I have not had the rear doors fixed, because I simply can't afford to. This defective problem poses a considerable safety risk. The doors swing open as I'm going around corners. I've attached a bungee cord for now, rendering my backseats useless for passengers. I do, however, sometimes need to carry a passenger back there and advise them of the hazard that exists there. If this is not a recallable item, I don't know what is. Several people told me before I purchased this TDI that VW has a lot of electrical problems and cost of ownership on a TDI is one of the highest for any vehicle. I almost bought a Honda Accord but I like all the safety features and fuel mileage on the TDI. One month after I purchased my TDI while at Cape Cod, Mass. the fan stopped working and had no AC on a 100 deg. day while on vacation. I was lucky the VW dealer in Hyannis, MA was able to fix the problem due to a loose wire connection behind the glove box. The Transmission blew- up under warranty last year. Springs and other parts fell into the starter and destroyed it. VW paid over $5,000 to Gene Langan VW for the repair. A few months ago out of warranty the air bag warning light came on. It cost me over $100.00 to fix a wire connection under the driver seat. This shows a pattern of poor wiring connection. On April 2, 2009 I notice no cold AC and the dealer replaced the AC Compressor and Condenser out of warranty for a cost to me of $2,047.56! Gene Langan VW told me they phoned VW but VW was not willing to compensate me for the repairs out of warranty. That winter or fall we started having issues with the car not starting. The lights would come on, the a/c would come on but not the engine. We had to tow it in they said they fixed it. That was the first time. It happend again, we towed it in they said they fixed. Then again we had to two it in and they kept the car for over a week saying they finally found out the problem. In fact they said the car did the same for them would not start then a couple hours later started. By this time the car had about 8500 or less miles, I wanted to trade it in but they said no. So months went by and the car was fine. Now in the last three months the car sometimes starts and sometimes does not. We have been stranded several times but after an hour or two the car starts. My husband is deployed so I am dealing with this on my own and feel I am getting the run around. Recently this month the car is doing it much more. We spent close to 25500 on the car and traded in a nice truck getting 8000 dollars for it. My husband did this for our duaghter because he is always deployed and she is an exceptional teenager. Now as usual my husband is gone and I feel helpless. I am worried to have my duaghter drive the car in fear she will be stranded. I fixed one window but this is a very costly repair considering that this is a faulty design and they are falling down on most of these in the jetta gl series. The vw dealership showed me the regulator that is breaking on these and they are made of plastic and don't stand a chance in summer weather or in cold climates. This should be backed up by the vw dealer and definately falls under the lemon law. Is there anything that can be done or is there any chance or a re-call.

I got it fixed and was compensated for it by vw but less and a year and a half later, again they both broke. How can vw replace a bad part with the same bad part. Now my warranty is up and they don't want to hear it. I can't believe they haven't corrected this problem yet. Replacing a broken part with the same defective problem is ludicrous. It's just a cheap plastic piece that's supposed to hold up a window.

I leased my VW Jetta in 2005. I had always wanted one because I thought they were cute so as soon as I could afford it I got one as quickly as possible. It was great for awhile until I had to have my first scheduled maintenance. No one tells you a simple oil change will cost at least $150 and that you have to go to the dealership to get that done because no American dealer can do it. THEN for the 10,000 mile service no one tells you it will be $400 for what appears to be nothing. Not to mention for all of that you have to take a day off and sit for five hours because they're only open M-F 9-5 and you have to make an appointment, and then sit and wait for literally half the day. The $400 maintenace service has to be done every 10,000 miles. Then when I went to turn it in it passed inspection and we turned it in without a problem. Which was great, until I got a $350 lease turn in fee which I have never heard of in my life and refuse to take payments. If I don't pay it - they're sending me to collections. I would NEVER recommend a VW to ANYONE nor would I ever purchase or lease new or used, again. They're customer service is terrible as well.

The dealerships simply said sorry, and told me to buy an air freshener. The crayon smell is enough to gag a person, and if you need to turn the heat on, the air is so THICK with crayon, you can't breathe.
A consumer complaint forum directed at this company, stated that VW corporate finally acknowledged that they used asphaltic sound deadening material sprayed onto the floor board, that did not cure properly, and smelled when heated. I own a 2001 Jetta. I bought the vehicle in June 2003 and have had nothing but problems since two days after purchasing this awful car. Two days after buying it the check engine light went on. I took it back to Volkswagen of Orland Park, of course they said there was nothing wrong with it & turned off the light. On my way home the light went back on. I called them and was told I should ignore the light if it was amber. Then days later the tire went flat. When I took it in it was a bent rim. I had only driven the car for a couple of days to and from work less than a mile from home. I didn't hit anything or run over anything that would have caused the damage. But of course this was something that was not covered in the warranty. In September my car began overheating. At that time I had to replace the hoses and one fan. This was at the Matteson Volkswagen. It seemed to be ok for about a month before it started again. I then had to have $2000 worth of repairs to the cooling system. Then another two months later same thing. In the spring of 2004 I had several more repairs. In the Spring of 2005 I had several more repairs one time I had it in to Matteson Volkswagen to have yet again the cooling system repaired again. This time they replaced valves, hoses, and the fan. Two blocks from the shop it started to overheat again. I brought it back and they claimed that the other fan must have just died out (and not that it was the original problem or not working when I left). The thing that I hate most about this car is aside from the engine everything is new in the car. While owning this it has continued to be a money pit, that I have spent hoping eventually it will stop. Basically for 5 years every three months I have spent from $700 to $2800. Now that I have finished college and grad school maybe I can finally ditch this absolutely horrible car. I bought it because I thought vw's were reliable vehicles. I needed a good car to get me to and from school and internships, and this did not. I just hope I can help someone else from making my same mistake. Also, at this time I had a timing belt and water pump replaced at a cost of $1272.79. The mileage was 104,896. At 105,197 mileage, on June 16, 2008, my car would not start. I had to have it towed to VW South. I was advised that I had regular fuel in my diesel engine and that was the reason that it would not start. At that time, I had approx. 1/4 tank of gas left out of a full tank that I had put in almost 2 weeks earlier. I had gone over 300+ miles that tank of gas and had not had a problem with the car starting. I was also advised that I had probably done damage to the injection pump and it possibly would have to be replaced. From past experience with this dealership, I knew that would be a given. I asked Larry in the service dept. to just hold off on any repair. I then checked with 2 reputable mechanics who assured me that I could not have been operating my car if there had been regular fuel in it. In addition, I called Carolina VW on Independence Blvd. in Charlotte, spoke with Vorg who told me the exact same thing. After paying VW South a diagnosis fee of $105.00, I subsequently had my car towed from there to Carolina VW. A short time later Vorg called me to let me know that the fuel was not the problem and that I had a small glitch in the computer. I OK'd the repair, picked up my car, and paid a bill of only $52.50. I have not received my towing bills yet, but I'm certain they will be expensive. I have insurance that will probably cover one of the towing charges, but not the second one. I feel that VW South was either very incompetent or that being a single woman, I was taken advantage of. I have made the mistake once of putting the wrong fuel in my car, and believe me, it is something that one would not do again. Back then, VW South charged me $188.00 to drain my tank and replace with 4 gallons of diesel fuel. Incidently, at that time, fuel prices were nothing like today's prices. I write this letter now because I have absolutely had it with VW South. Being a loyal customer since the purchase of by car in 2001, I have had NUMEROUS occasions of dissatisfaction with this service department. I kept going there becase of the convenient location as compared to the only other dealership in my area which is Carolina Volkswagon and also because of the difficulty of finding a garage that works on VW's. I actually have two friends that sold their vw's only because they were so fed up with VW South's service department. Personally, I will never take my car there again. My experience with Carolina VW was great!! Because of it's location it will be very inconvenient for me to use their service deptment; but I will continue to do so because of the good, honest service I felt I got there. In comparison to my year's of experience with VW South, it will be worth my trouble. I will never step foot back into VW South; and although Ilove my Beetle, I myself am considering selling it because of the problems I have encountered throughout the years with this service dept.

I have a 2002 VW Jetta and my passenger side window fell down about a year after buying the car. They did fix it and extend the warranty by 7 years. Probably because they knew that I would have peeling on the inside of the car, arm rest all but fell apart, condensor for air conditioner went out,

the sun roof leaks so when it rains I get a MONSTER PUDDLE of water in the front passenger floor board, the catalytic converter had to be replaced, the radio had to be replaced (oh, and the replacement radio went out and they wouldn't do anything about it.) Those are just the problems I can remember off the top of my head. Learned a lesson...no more Volkswagons.

I recently had to replace the rear brake pads on my 2007 Jetta. I purchased it new and when the pads were replaced I only had 20,500 miles on it. In fact, as I called around to try to get an estimate regarding the brakes, no one believed the rear brakes were in need of replacing this soon. I was told by several repair shops that you usually have to replace the rear brakes about one time for every two times you have the front brakes replaced. After replacing them the repair shop manager asked if I was aware that my brakes needed replacing much too soon. As for Volkswagen, they took my complaint and that was the end of that. The dealer wanted to replace not only the pads but they suggested that I have the (undamaged) rotors replaced as well. Needless to say I took the car elsewhere for brake service. I love my little Jetta, but I doubt when the time comes that I will purchase another VW because of the customer service or should I say the lack thereof.

On January 21, 2005, I purchased a used 2001 Volkswagen Passat. Approximately 11 months after purchasing this car, I begin experiencing mechanical problems. The first problem was when the STOP TURN ENGINE OFF CHECK OIL PRESSURE? light came on. Quite naturally, I contacted the dealership and took the car in to find out what was the problem. The Ourisman dealership has serviced my vehicle on several occasions for the same problem. A list of the service dates is below; in addition I have attached a copy of all the service receipts. Date Description of Problem Solution Cost 12/19/05 STOP Turn Engine Off Check Oil Pressure Purge Valve Solenoid Broken $ 400.05 12/22/05 STOP Turn Engine Off Check Oil Pressure Oil Pump Pick Up Tube is Clogged $ 0.00 02/20/06 Engine Light On Replaced Mass Air Sensor $ 504.15 06/08/07 Headlight Out Clicking Noise in Front End When Making Turns Left Head Lamp Wire Harness Failed Both Front Axles C.J. Joints failed $2,532.03 03/13/08 STOP Turn Engine Off Check Oil Pressure Oil Pump Pick Up Tube is Clogged $1,367.77 TOTAL $4,804.00 From the dates listed above, you can clearly see that I have had to have this car in for the same problem on numerous occasions. I have spent within the past 3 years of my owning this vehicle, $4,804 (that would have been a nice down payment on a new car) just to keep it in operating condition, and we are not even talking about the standard oil changes and preventive maintenance service. Just two months ago, my car was towed once again because of the oil pressure problem. It was discovered that the oil pump pick-up tube was clogged again. I spent $1,367.77 to get this repaired. Then on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, I had to take my car back because the check engine light came on again. Only for them to tell me that they found a faulty V Camshaft Position Sensor; the turbo and hoses need replacing, and the secondary air pump is faulty, and the cost would be approximately $1,867.81. Other dates that my car has been in the service shop for other service matters, oil changes, or preventive maintenances are as follows: Date of Service Cost 05/14/05 10/18/05 $542.55 04/10/06 $ 72.39 10/26/06 $ 79.19 02/08/07 $207.65 TOTAL $901.78 I am completely dissatisfied with the services I have received thus far and strongly believe I have purchased what one would consider a lemon. I am writing in hopes of being able to bring these continued problems to an end. I have been inconvenienced each time Ive had to have the vehicle serviced and have incurred expenses that I honestly do not feel should have been my responsibility.

The dealer took it apart, and showed me the pressure plate had cracked into 3 pieces. They blamed me, which is ridiculous. I have driven standard for 9 years, and this car was the being treated with the best out of all the cars I've owned. Looking around, this is a very common problem. I took the car back to the VW service dept. and they said the button could not be replaced. The radio would have to be replaced instead, costing $600. I made sure not to use this button for fear it would split open. It has opened up and started peeling. Today I took my Jetta for an oil change and told the service consultant I now have a bubble on my AM button which I never have used. I am sure this will peel as well. The service consultant told me VW is having problems with the buttons on the radio peeling and will not replace the radio. I lease this car and my concern is that when I turn the car in at the end of the lease will they charge me $600 to replace this radio. Over the years my husband and I have owned Accura, Lexus and Cadillac. We have had no issues whatsoever until my husband surprised me with this Jetta which will be the first and last VW we will own. My husband and I own a retail business. If we treated our customers the way we have been treated, we would not be in business today. Our business has survived tough economic conditions because we care about our customers and we put them first. The word of mouth advertising is the best form of advertising and I will never own or recommend a VW. They don't stand behind their product.

We lease this car. We were thinking of buying it, but after being told that VW knows there is a problem and they are not willing to stand behind their product we will not purchase this car. Will we we have to pay the $600 to replace the radio when we turn it in at the end of the lease? I only have 20,340 miles on this car and it is always garaged.

I was told on the phone they were under warranty & made an appt to have them replace. I confirmed the warranty issue when I arrived at the dealership. My brakes were installed & I was THEN told they were mistaken & the brakes WEREN'T under warranty. My family owns a towing business & repair facility & would have installed these brakes for cost on parts, no out of pocket for labor. I would have NEVER authorized this work if I'd know it would cost me practically $500.00. I was raised in the automotive repair business & am NOT uneducated when it comes to a reasonable cost for repair. The service manager became irrate with me when I couldn't pay for the work & he refused to turn my car over to me. I was brought to tears by his attitude & had to call my mother for help. She in turn called for the general manager for help. The VW gm was out of town, so she called the general manager, who in turn, drove to the VW dealership to help me. He retrieved my keys from the service mgr & allowed me to leave. I'm now receiving bills for the entire balance, even though I was told TWICE that this was warranty work. A letter has been written to the dealership regarding this entire ordeal, along with a check from my parents for their cost on the parts (family business cost -- approx 25% of price dealers attempting to collect). Neither my parents or myself have been contacted by the dealership to discuss this situation. They've ignored our phone calls & the letter & continue to send out invoices. I'm a college student who works full time & have to budget my income. I can't believe the tactics this dealership uses (especially toward young people) & the lack of professionalism within their staff! The fact that several messages have been left on voice mail in an attempt to resolve this matter, with NO return phone calls is just poor customer service on their part.

Anyway, the problems began and starting coming one after another..... My glove compartment handle just came off in my hand while I was opening it one day....haven't been able to get into it for a year now....I was told it would cost me $150+ to replace it. It seems like everything in the interior is falling apart: the center console's handle broke, little plastic pieces break. My left passenger's window rolls up half way and then automatically rolls back down, and then it rolls up the whole way on the second try. My A/C went out unexpectedly....and that just is terrible when you live in Florida. I was told it would cost $2000-3000 to fix it....so I'm bearing with it. My antifreeze is leaking, but thank goodness my car's temperature stays fine. It's almost an embarrassment to drive this car with all of the problems it has! But once you get past ALL THE BAD THINGS that has gone wrong, its a nice car....FROM THE OUTSIDE.....

I would have to hold the switch up for the window to completely close. I took the car to the dealership where I purchased it and they seemed to have fixed it, but the window didn't work as a new car anymore, it was stiff. Two years have passed and the driver side window is getting worse. Not only would it stop half way and go back down, but this time it would go sideways while going up and down.

I physically had to shake it side to side to make it go up and down, doing this while driving isn't exactly safe, but I had to do it while driving on the free way in case it surprisingly drops and shocks the heck out of me and I get into some sort of wreck. I took the car to another dealership, where I did not buy the car, and they replaced the regulator guides.

The driver side window seemed to work fine after that, but as I stated before it was stiff and didn't operate as a new car. A two year old car with problems already? I had extended warranty which I paid to assure stuff like this would get fixed before I paid off the car. Two years pass, my warranty including the extended has expired and the car is completely paid off WOOHOO! Four months after my warranty is expired my driver side window completely went off track and nearly fell into the door. I was lucky I caught the window and was able to get the tracks to hold it up. A

repeated event, but this time complete messed up. I called the dealership who has been maintaining my car for the remainder of the time, the same dealership that replaced the regulator guides, and without even inspecting the car they coughed up a $320 dollar repair fee. I don't know about you all, but how do they know without inspecting the car that it would cost that much? Something sounds wrong here. Furious I called Volkswagon Customer Service a few times, they state that I would need to pay 65 - 150 dollars for a diagnosis to find out what exactly is wrong with the car and from there determine IF they will assist me. I have not yet taken the car to the ORIGINAL dealership, where I purchased the car, but I hope they fix this issue once and for all.

Turbo failed on my 2001 VW Jetta TDI (Diesel). This turbo was replaced under warranty within the first year of new. This part is under warranty (10yr/100Kmi & car is at 97,222) and they agreed, however since I cannot provide 7 years worth of receipts for oil & filters (I performed most scheduled maintenance myself). I have dates, mileage, & description of all maintenance performed (done by their schedule). Everything required was performed, and if it involved more than fluid or filter changes, it was performed by a local mechanic who only works on VWs (40+ years experience).

He is the one who I towed the car to when the turbo failed. I wasn't sure what the problem was, & didn't want to pay to tow 100+ miles to a dealer at $100/hr to do anything that is not under warranty. Once we found the problem, I called VW 800 number & was told that this was covered under warranty. I called New Motors to schedule appt when they would have a courtesy vehicle available. Had my car trailered to Erie (1.5 hrs away) & when it got there, they screwed with my stepdad about the loaner car. After several phone calls, they finally gave him the car. (This was never a problem before - new policy). Then they informed us that there would be a $90 charge to put this on diagnostic computer to verify the problem. I said that if they found out it was not a warranted problem, I would pay the charge, but otherwise, it was part of the warranty.

They said it was NOT covered. I again called VW 800#, & they told me it WAS covered & there would be no charge. This is what I feel caused the voiding of my warranty. This was just payback for not letting them double dip on this charge. I spoke with my VW mechanic & he told me that even if I had not performed regular oil changes (which I have - even more frequent than VW requirements), that would have absolutely nithing to do with turbo failure. The engine oil does not come in contact with the turbo parts.

An oil line runs through the case, but it is sealed & not lubricating this part. I do not feel a receipt from Wal-Mart from 2002 proves any more about my maintenance than my records I submitted. Another interesting point, I have worked at a Pennzoil refinery for many years, and I have a large supply of oil in my garage (legally obtained!!). I could send them a photo of the 60+ cases of oils, lubes, & fluids currently in my garage if that would help. VW Customer Service (800 number) is researching this to see if they can give me some out of warranty consideration, and I was going to wait until I heard from them, but I don't feel I need out of warranty consideration.

I feel they need to honor their warranty. I have always maintained my vehicles at or above dealer standards, and resent the implication that I'm lying to them. One last point. The last oil change I had was about 1000 miles ago (synthetic oil) at Wal-Mart and the receipt is in the car and there is a sticker on the windshield. This should prove that there was the proper oil, with the proper characteristics (new oil-not broken down) at the time of failure. I do not feel I need to drive 3 hours round trip & pay a dealer $60, for something I can do myself for $25, or have Wal-Mart or JiffyLube do for $40 in 10 minutes. All in all, I do not know if this is a dealer issue, or VW USA, but either way they are not honoring the written warranty they provided me. Thank you.

It sounds like a design/engineering snafu as I have never had problems with any of my other cars; and I even owned a Ford. In addition, the check engine light has come on over 10 times. Spent about $1200 dollars to have the last one turned off so I can pass the state inspection. The most frustrating thing is that there was nothing mechanically wrong with the car. They just had a very hard time finding which sensor was bad. End result, I will NEVER by another VW.

A year later, our son was backing his Jetta out of the driveway when he noticed smoke wisping from the dash vents. Within minutes, black smoke billowed into the cab and melting pieces of burning plastic were falling around him. He turned off the key and turned a hose into the car. Fire dept responded, but entire electrical harness and components behind dash on drivers side destroyed.

One window just broke for the fourth time. VW will not cover the cost of the repairs, even though their window system is clearly faulty. In December, my garage replaced a motor and regulator, and the window died two weeks later. My garage fixed it for free for me, but clearly VW windows deserve a recall.

The coil recall issued by VW in 2003 read as if it included my exact model, but my car was excluded because the VIN# was simply not part of the recall: The vehicles affected in this action include cars equipped with 1.8 liter engines, which includes the Audi TT and A4; and the VW Golf/GTI, Jetta, New Beetle and Passat. The companies also included the Passat W8 engine, all VW's equipped with the 2.8 liter VR6; as well as the Audi 3.0 liter V6 engine. (I should fall into the all VW's equipped with the 2.8 liter VR6 part) VW knows that their individual coils (recalled) and coil packs (not recalled) are all prone to failure, yet refuse to issue a recall for the coil packs. The problem is so common that you can find plenty of discussion boards where owners discuss the same problem with cracked coil pack casings, and possible ways to fix it yourself (didn't work out for me after much hard work).

For the original owners of the Vw's bought in 2002 they need to warranty the coil for life. Or fix the problem for good

I have replaced all four regulators and motors several times. I've almost paid the price of my car in window parts. I've complained many times to VW and they really aren't helpful and don't seem to care.

There is no recall for the window parts and they refuse to pay for or discount the repairs. They also haven't done anything to fix the problem so this doesn't keep happening. If they made motors that could last more than 6 months and regulators that were made entirely out of metal and not plastic, maybe this wouldn't be a problem. The other problem VW owners seem to have is leaking.

Two of my doors have been leaking periodically when it rains and now my roof leaks as well. My car smells like mold for a week after it rains. Also, there are various electrical failures in my car to top it off. Yes, my car has many miles on it now, but these issues have been continuous since my warranty ran out. I don't plan on putting any more money into this car. I have had it with VW. I just wanted to add my complaint to the rest.

I bought a 2005 Jetta for my daughter in July of 2005, her first car. She's been drivig all manner of used cars since she was able to drive and she started driving manual so she's familar with a stick shift. We've had the car less than two years and its been to the dealer twice for what I have now come to understand, from the descriptions on others on this website, as an oil sludge problem that the dealer referred to as a fuel injection problem.

The dealer was unwilling to warrant the problem the second time, asking for $650 plus. I am very persistent, especially as this car has less than 25000 miles and is still under warranty. This month, March 2007, the car up and died, it was driving fine and the next moment it would not move although the motor revved up. We had the car towed to the dealership where we were shortly informed that it was bad. I visited the dealership today, 03/15/07, and I was informed that the clutch had burned out, needed replacing, and was not covered under the warranty, (mind you the car has less than 25000 miles), and that this is normal wear and tear. I asked and was shown the clutch plate. It looks like shredded paper, that is not normal wear and tear.

I told them in no uncertain terms that I would not pay their $2500 to repair this car, and that they will repair this car under the warranty. I have filed a complaint with their customer service dept., they were very nice but I was not convinced. I have owned several VW through out my life, and they have generally been very reliable, this one has not, and I am appalled to read how many people have similar problems with this model.

I am in outside sales, persistence is in my blood. Together we can make a difference, they can only stonewall for so long. My daughter pays her bill on time and in good faith, we expect nothing less in return.

About 1 1/2 years later I was driving when the oil light came on then went off, a minute or two later it came on in a blinking manner. I stopped at the first station I came upon and checked the oil and found it to be about a pint low, no need to worry, I topped the oil off and started the car again, the blinking oil light was still on blinking away. Since the oil level was correct I figured may be a problem with the sending unit and planned to have it looked at the next day. Never made the next day, engine quit running about 10 minutes later. The car was towed to the dealer on Tuesday, and the dealer first said the motor was fried and I need a new one, I asked why the motor was fried and dealer said for another $600 he would tell me. The dealer then said the motor failed due to engine sludge build up, a clogged snorkel oil pick up screen that feeds engine oil pump and smoked the engine and turbo, and that it would cost me $10,000 to replace engine. I talked to Volkswagen customer service, incident # 70013631, I think that is right, and VW NA said that I did not maintain engine correctly.
