I would not advise buying a Tacoma with the 3.5 V6 and automatic transmission. I was excited to pick mine up from the dealership but after the first drive was very unimpressed with the acceleration and braking. After more miles the issues kept coming up and the erratic shifting and steering vibration made me concerned. I started reading reviews and found thousands of complaints online that resemble my issues. I set up a visit with a technician and was told it is just how the truck drives. This also matches the experience of others in the online reviews.

Toyota has clearly educated the technicians to tell people to deal with it and go away. Those are my words but I hope you get the point. It’s not a good vehicle in my opinion and I want others to be warned before buying. I do not feel safe in my truck due to the lack of acceleration and poor handling. It also underperforms by 4-5 mpg and I drive highway miles, not fast or aggressively. I have a hunch Toyota knows about the issues but has already had a recall and won’t take another hit with the drivetrain. I would like Toyota to buy back or trade for a comparable 4Runner without incurring loss and paying sales tax and doc fees. Otherwise I will be forced to trade at a loss. If I do so it will not be for another Tacoma or Toyota, ever again.

Updated on 02/06/2018: I would like to update my initial review of my Tacoma (Tacoma TRD Off Road Automatic V6) based on my last visit to the dealership. First the technician couldn’t replicate the shifting issues. I was not in the vehicle when he drove it, but I insisted that they check the fluid. It turns out the transmission fluid was low. After they filled it I drove it home and noticed a difference right away. It still hunts for gears and is not a great driving pickup, but at least I can merge into traffic without panic. Now I will watch to see if my MPG goes up. So far I’m still getting 16 on the highway. Why would Toyota continue to sell trucks low on fluid after they knew about it in 2016?

This truck has left a bad taste and I still would caution a person who is considering buying one. Test drive it for a long time and get them to run diagnostics and check fluids. I had a checklist that was not filled out in my glove box. I showed the sales person and he brought it back in 10 minutes checked off and signed. Is it possible to do an inspection that quickly? I hope to receive a reply from Toyota.

This 4,000lbs truck stock from the factory on the highway is getting me 12-14 mpg’s on the highway. I have already taken it to 2 dealership so both say truck not throwing codes. It's updated to most recent TSB’s flash tune. I drive around 80-100 miles on any given day and I have to be putting 15-20$ daily in this truck in fuel! I don't drive hard fast. Just normal cruising speed 70-75 mph (mind you Texas interstates) and still it's nowhere near the advertised mpg’s, the transmission cannot hold 5 or 6th gear to save a life. Any little incline or slight headwind and it's constant downshifting! Honestly if I was at least near 16-17 mpg’s I wouldn't complain as much but 12-14 mpg’s really grind my gears for this tiny truck! It's reliable yes. It looks good yes. But the constant shifting and bad mpg’s really make me not like this truck.

2017 TRD OFF Road - 4x4 - 20000 miles. Very Unhappy with this truck. Bought it on the premise of "Toyota" reliability, performance and etc... so here's my complaints: 1.) Gas Mileage is NOT as advertised. Toyota advertises around 20 - 24 MPG highway and 15 -17 city. I get 15-17 anywhere. 2.) Transmission is squirrely and downshifts at the slightest blow of wind or change of road incline. Not stable on highway - yes it has the new updated software version. 3.) Too many goofy safety features, bells, whistles and other "deterrent" things to capture one's attention away from the fact that it just doesn't have the goods to compete with real trucks. 4.) Easily markable/scratchable plastic - seems like the interior plastic is a from the lowest bidder. 5.) Roof rack - nope. Try again Toyota. Just get a fixed metal rack and dump the cheap "plastic" ideas.

6.) Rear transaxle noise. I often hear a "clunking" from the rear axle/differential when slowing down to a stop or accelerating. Seems like the drive train is either trying to catch up with the engine or dropping the load. 7.) Toyota service centers - will not listen to customers. I tell them of these issues and all they do is respond with what seems a pre-printed response and dismiss the issue and customer. I have been a Mechanic for 20+ years - I think I know what I am talking about. 8.) Gas pedal/er... potentiometer - not that responsive - sometimes you get nothing until you depress it halfway down then the engine revs to the higher Tach band. Just stick with a cable.

9.) Towing MPG literally... SUCK! I bought a 5x8 trailer and pulled it back from the deal, Empty - I got 11 MPG. Overall... Car sells for around $38,000 and in my opinion this squeaky cheap plastic truck is not worth over $25,000. Save yourself the time, hassle, disappointments and just get a V8 or diesel Chevy/Ford/Dodge Truck. As soon as I can - I will be selling this thing.

Beware!!! Majority of 2012 Tacomas have defective air injection valve and pump assembly. The manufacturing defect allows moisture into these units and disables your vehicle! Toyota initiated a recall for these items in Tundras but has not done so with the Tacomas. It may have been covered under the warranty (64,000 miles on the truck) except Toyota hides behind the "water intrusion" exclusion to avoid honoring the warranty. Now wait for it... The cost to replace these parts is over $2,000. Understandably we were shocked. We were advised by the service manager at our Erie Pa. dealership to contact Toyota directly since we have owned 9 Toyotas over 2 decades. He felt they may reimburse us at least part of the cost due to customer loyalty. Don't bother contacting the "customer experience" line. No help with the bill. ZERO. The dealership did offer a free oil change and detailing.

We bought a 2017 Toyota Tacoma truck in Feb. and it has been nothing but a headache. After having it a few weeks my husband realized there was a severe deformity in the driver's side door panel, they had to order a new panel and after 2 trips out there. (approximately 50 miles round trip) They fixed it, or so we thought. It was fixed incorrectly so we had to go back out so they could repair what was forgotten. Then there was a recall because of a leak issue in the rear differential. Now a few months later there is an issue with the dash.

We dropped our truck off to have this issue fixed on a Saturday and we were told it would take only 4 hrs to fix. Later that evening they called and told us it would be a few days that they had to order parts. Tuesday morning we received a call saying our truck was ready. My husband went to pick up the truck that was to be repaired and it was not performed up to what I figured Toyota standards were. The dash was NOT attached, the shift was not fastened down and we now have grease on a seat. Now once again we are having to bring in the truck back in so they can fix what they half fixed last week.

One the years I purchased over 12 trucks from Toyota and the 2006 rusted apart on the frame. Holes and I have photos so bad I was instructed not to drive, never pull anything as it may bread in half. I did not obtain a recall so had to file the forms as part of a lawsuit. This was one of two trucks Tacoma's I filled on and this one is the only one with major rust. Now I have learned Toyota has no record and due to this getting hosed again by them. Will no longer purchased any Toyota and have moved to Honda for trucks and waiting for the new Ranger. Toyota has had this rust problem as far back as 1998 and it continues. Just check layered frames that don't last.

Tacoma 2017 4x4 off-road is not really off road worthy due to the fact that the front bumper valance gets ripped off when driving through a foot deep of water and your license plate comes off together with it because it's mounted on the valance itself.

Purchased a 2004 Toyota Tacoma with 125,000 miles. The entire truck is in perfect shape except for the rusted frame. The frame is rusted completely through to the point that it is not safe to drive. Took the truck to the dealership and was told they couldn't work on it due to the severity of the rust. When I contacted Toyota about the issue they said their "extended service program" had already expired and there was nothing they could do, that I would be responsible for replacing the frame. I'm supposed to replace a bad frame that you put under there? No way. The case workers that I spoke to were very rude with no regard whatsoever to the money I had lost on their worthless product much less my safety that was put at risk driving their product with the faulty frame that they used. I will never buy a Toyota product again. If I could have given them 0 stars I would have.

Purchased a new 2004 Tacoma 4wd regular cab with 15 miles off the lot. I was super excited because it was my first new vehicle and payment that I was able to cover and still eat more than Ramen on a weekly basis. In 2007, I believe, is when my excitement turned to frustration and disappointment at which point I decided learning the art of patience, as I could see directly through the smokescreens and lip service I was fed and would continued to be fed until the present day. I got the "recall" notice for rust and frame damage at which I could have the vehicle inspected and if it met the criteria, it would be replaced (the frame). I was told and have documentation from numerous dealings that my truck would now have an extended 15-year warranty on the frame, as well as I could have it inspected as many times as requested as well as a nice, gooey tar substance be applied.

I dealt with the same issue years earlier as my sister had a Tacoma that didn't pass the "hammer test" and literally it went through the frame like butter. She was promptly given settlement for 1.5 times the KBB value and got a check from TMC in the mail. So, I knew I could never be as lucky as she was with a fast resolution. So I took it in for inspection #1... it passed of course and sure, at that point I agreed. Nothing terrible yet however signs of rust acceleration were obvious, and not your normal surface rust. This was different. So I got the gooey tar put on and it was a mess.

About 3 months later, it had come off. I asked the shop manager why this coating was so fast to disappear and the answer I got was, "The coating was meant to just cover up any perforations and strengthen the frame." I wasn't too sure that made sense but I took the service manager at his word. He actually told me to check periodically to see if there were any improvements in the visibility of surface rust or perforations. Ok, whatever. I didn't know rust improved so I learned something new that day. Yea, I learned that I needed to research exactly the wording of this "criteria" and "protocols" and find out the difference in a legal "recall" and a voluntary maintenance program.

In between these months of research, I also got a "recall" for the spare tire carrier being faulty or rusty or it could fly off in midair. I don't know. I just added it to the list. What I did find out and to make this a bit shorter of a sob story is this... If Toyota issued a legal "recall", they would be required to take every single frame in w/o a single question of inspection or coating and simply replace, period. Think on it... You see a ice cream recall on tv, do you turn in some of it, take some chances by keeping some. No, it's a complete action with no chances left to cause further harm. Ya know, if you think about it, it's actually very sly and crafty on the behalf of Toyota lawyers and they knew exactly what to do because they had been through this in the past and were definitely ahead of the game.

So, if they went ahead and offer the owners of those model years an extended service plan or warranty for 15 years, it looks like they are being wonderful to the clients and so caring... but here is the catch. By doing that and having no clue as to what we were accepting or what options we even had or gave up, we lost the opportunity of a straight buyback (like my sister got). I saw where the buyback was past the deadline and of the 3 times I had inspections I was never once advised, offered or one single mention of that being available. I only heard of it when I got notice saying that buyback program is dead! Ok, I get it... One point for Toyota. Nice move guys. You lost your ** in the past so you are making assurances to have that not repeat. I was very upset.

Then with any inspections I have, they always meet criteria and protocols for these perforations. But the rust is accelerating each and every time, ruining full muffler systems, my rotors, pads, O2 sensor, springs... I mean every damn piece underneath is totally rusted and obviously so due to the subpar steel and lack of effectiveness on this bs spray they used. As time goes on I realize the 2nd part of the "recall" and it's so very clear from day one I just can't believe that anyone in charge of a class action suit wasn't able to see exactly what was happening.

Let me put it out there and help if I'm wrong; If a company offers a voluntary service program that includes an extension of warranty on an item that could otherwise be legally recalled, the company has then taken away any admissions of wrongdoing and when offering up a resolution before a legal recall was put into effect, even when a class action suit is brought, heard and settled... it takes or allows that company to still not admit or show any fault or wrongdoing but, they are willing to settle a issue which to anyone with common sense is logically saying they have done something wrong and IS an admission of fault.

The kicker to this is the voluntary service for 15 yrs. They were able to write their own criteria and protocols, in-house and accept no outside, independent inspections as valid. I personally had 3 independent mechanics document the vehicle as not roadworthy and show I have replaced numerous systems and parts due to accelerated rust issue. I asked numerous times for their criteria used in determining my passing grade and was never obliged. Also, the most obvious part of the whole thing is that since 2007 until now, 2017, I have the exact same Tacoma I bought new and is part of their 15 yr program. Sorry. The obvious part I was getting to was this... I am willing to bet the farm that when the program began there was a memo saying to deny, deny, deny unless the frame was literally chunking off in the floor. Who would ever be so patient and continue to wait year after year and pay for repairs on a rust bucket, nobody right?

They, as in Toyota, figured over the 15 yrs they could build up a nice little coffer and if anybody was lucky enough to get a class action or actually have the nerve to stick with it and fight, they would be more than prepared this time. No way they would take a hit like previous years and guess what, they have succeeded. I've waited all these years and still have until 2022, apparently, until my extended 15 yrs is up. Now what do I do, I've been lied to, denied, told one thing then another and somehow every time I inquire about my rights and what is owed to me... I'm the bad guy. I see a settlement in 4/27/17 and how receipts can be sent in with documentations, etc. I guarantee that turns into a huge hassle and more red tape.

It's a joke that corporate big boys can just walk over people and it's a real shame that this whole voluntary program is so transparent and was conceived not to help the customer but to benefit the company not take more losses. I just can't understand how it's not obvious to a lot more people. So I will send in my receipts and numerous documents and keep you posted on the speedy reimbursement or the further delay I am forced to endure. Learning the art of patience was important in this dealing and I hope nobody else has to go through a obstacle course like I am enduring. Thanks.

I would like to say how much I understand how people feel when they buy a car or truck that is a lemon. I have had this with Ford and GM. Fortunately for me, we now own our third Toyota and until they sell me a piece of crap I will continue to buy them. Our 2004 Corolla was traded in at 330000 kms and it barely had any problems... a black box and fuel pump under warranty and extended warranty and recall. My 2013 Taco has 92000 on it and just one parking brake cable under warranty. I can assure you that my Tacoma is the best truck I have ever owned and I drive the crap out of it because I have extended warranty and I am putting the automaker Toyota to the test. The dealer where I live in Brantford is absolutely one of the most honest and willing to help the customer. They actually measure the brake pads and tell you how your brakes look... amazing. I can say that I've been approved for the recall for my 2005 frame. They said 6 month wait and deemed it safe to drive. Now going on 10 months, I called once a month with no answers to when they will get one in for my specific year seeing it's different after 07. During this time, my motor mount rotted off and destroyed my hood and the remaining motor mount. I called Toyota directly and said, "Sorry..." Long story short I patched it up myself to keep driving because I'm not eating a crazy rental bill. So that was month 7.

Next and most recent, I was driving on 95 and had my passenger side rear leaf spring fall out or break, causing quarter panel damage, sheared my e-brake cable and brake line. This is my first and last Toyota. Back to Chevrolet as soon as they fix this thing deemed safe to drive by my local dealership. Update!!! My state inspection expired and will not pass, so not I have to forfeit my plates to the DMV before they suspend my license. Thank you Toyota...

Yesterday I received news that my 2005 Toyota Tacoma frame was corroded to the point it won't pass inspection; the catch is I had the CRC treatment completed two years ago based on the limited recall. At the time I thought it was great that Toyota was fixing or replacing frames. After all, this was the second Tacoma I owned that had frame issues (first was my 2001 Tacoma). If I knew then what I know now, I would have pushed to have the frame replaced, or better yet I would have just gotten rid of it. I now have a well maintained truck that could run for another ten years, but is rotting from the inside out. A worthless, but otherwise good looking truck.

Toyota's answer? "Sorry the limited recall period has expired." Doesn't seem to matter that an inspection was performed during the period. Doesn't seem to matter that Toyota's fix for the issue failed to work; the CRC coating is falling off my truck because of the rust that was under the treatment. Seems to me if Toyota identifies an issue, the recall should actually fix the issue; not simply cover it with a band aid and then assuring me the issue was resolved when clearly it was not. A fix that doesn't actually fix an issue is a scam. Toyota should be ashamed of itself, this is simply disgraceful. I bought a Toyota because of its reliability, durability, and retained overall value. My expectation was that it would last as long as I was willing to keep it. Instead, I've been burned twice by frame issues. Never again Toyota. Buyer beware.

I find many of these negative complaints laughable. People cause their own problems or do not follow instructions or use common sense. Then they get screwed and blame the vehicle or company. I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. In spite of some issues, it's still the best truck I've owned especially after several Fords one of which caught fire. My truck is now 10 years old with about 120/K miles. Until recently I've not had any major issues. Just an exhaust shield that came loose and a gas recirculation valve that went bad. In the summer of 2015 I was reading about the leaf springs issue. I checked my springs and they were sagging and one had a small crack. At the time Toyota was not recalling the trucks for these. I ordered a pair of heavy duty springs and U bolts and installed them myself holding on to the original receipts.

Because I live in a snow belt state and not someplace like Alabama, I received the frame recall notice. I took the truck in for a belt replacement and asked them to check the frame under the recall. The frame was rusted some but they would apply a rust prohibitor. I had to schedule that as it was a several day process. They supplied a rental car free of charge. The truck was done on time. They spray a rubber like coating on accessible parts of the frame. They do not take anything off other than the wheels, or attempt to get into tight spaces. A few months ago I got a notice for the leaf springs recall. They finally decided to do a recall on them. I was able to send in my receipts and was paid in full for my costs of replacing them myself.

Currently I am ready for a service interval and will be having the auto-transmission fluid flushed and radiator flushed. I cannot lower my spare as the hoist mechanism is rusted. This requires cutting the cable to remove the tire and removing the bed liner. I do not have the tools to do this so the dealer will get the job. My Tire Pressure Monitoring System is also giving me a light. This can be my fault as I may have gotten the TPMS computer locked into loop mode by pressing the reset button at the wrong time. It may be the 10 year battery death which is common to all wheel stem transmitters. It's all part of maintenance. Overall I like the truck, it runs very well, shifts well, looks great and handles well. I will keep an eye on the underside as rust seems to be an issue on some components. If I were not retiring soon I would trade up to a new one.

My 2007 Tacoma is getting a new chassis and new suspension on the recalls. It's with Stephen Toyota in Bristol CT. They gave me a brand new 2016 Camry SE loaner. Called me to said the transmission mount was shot, that was 190.00 job, I said ok. Went online. The part runs from 58.00 dollars to 85.00. The job high is 150.00 with labor. So they got me on the part and labor. I can live with that if it's new. There is a video online with a cam under the Tacoma, what it looks like when it goes. Also I believe there will be a recall on that, a lot of complaints. So tomorrow Wed they said it will be ready, so I'll be posting how the ride is. Also went in with a full tank of gas, and will be making sure my spare tire is there. So far my experience was very good.

Updated on 7/12/2016: I now have my truck back, with 1/4 tank of gas. My tank was full. New chassis and suspension and brakes lines, lower ball joints and anything that rusted. They said my back brakes can't be adjusted, that the adjusters need to be replaced for 335.00. Really? The parts cost 6.95 for each adjuster. I figured with 141,000 miles it's time for new drums. Got 2 drums, new hardware, brakes, and adjusters for 165.00. I'll do it myself. Also said my front end was making a grinding noise. No fooling. I was in the process of doing my front wheel hubs, when it was recalled for chassis. Did wheel hubs for 100.00 a piece. Took 27 minutes on each wheel. Love that YouTube.

So all in all they got me for the labor on the tranny mount. Toyota is okay with me. The mechanics I got nothing bad to say, except you scratched the bumper, I'll fix it myself. The service people are vultures who will try to pad the bill. When I had free oil changes, I watched the service reps sell cabin air cleaners that go for 20.00 to old people and women. They could do it for 90.00, what a markup. Just my two cents. When dealing with dealers, never finance with them, never trade in with them, (even at the end of the sale), never settle for the MSRP, and always buy a vehicle in Jan or Feb.

This truck has been babied, is a second vehicle, has very little mileage. How can this happen?

Took tacoma in for frame recall inspection... was fine. Made appointment for spray... my wife took it in! They took it right in their garage for 1 1/2 hours then told her - it was good to go! Taking their word never thought no more about it... I was doing a brake job on it and noticed the sway bar was almost rusted off. I called KINGSTON toyota where we bought it brand new!!! To my surprise the manager of service department told me there was nothing he could do because we never brought it back for the spray!

I told him, "My wife had there for the appointment. You took it in for 1 1/2 hrs then told her it was good to go." He says he has no record of us showing up for the appointment - grrrr... he went on to say that if it was there for only that length of time - it must of only been the inspection! He told me they would have given her a rental because it takes 3 days to dry and they don't do the spray there that it gets sent out for that, and he would have record of that because he has to submit the bill to Toyota Canada!!! Called Toyota Canada and got pretty much the same story... They have no record of that vin# being sprayed! So there it sits in the yard as a pile of scrap!!! After owning 8 toyotas over the years.... never AGAIN! Btw it came brand new with no spare tire which is part of the safety check!!! We had to fight with them to get that!!!

My truck was left with a local Toyota dealer in October of 2015 for a frame replacement. In Jan. of 2016 I was notified that my frame was on its way. A few days later I was told they ran into an issue. The frame they received was not the correct frame for my truck. This was found after they started working on it. They told me they put a rush on my frame and were hoping to have it in a couple weeks.

Now it is May, and I still don't have my truck. I can't get an answer as to when my frame will arrive. I have been given a rental (numerous different rentals) to drive while my truck is out of service, which is great (at a cost of almost $7000 so far). But I am concerned that I may now have issues with my truck when (if) I get it back as it has not been started, and has been sitting in the same place since January. I've been a supporter of Toyota vehicles but this may change my mind.

Toyota motor company has really gone to **. I've owned both of my Tacomas since new and they have always been registered, in Alabama. I have never received a recall notice about frame rust for either truck. Toyota hides behind their big company and all their high paid attorneys and comes up with all these stupid excuses to not fix these trucks. And our government as sorry it is does nothing either.

My wife has a 2014 Scion tc and we had to take it into the Toyota dealer where we purchased it last year because the a/c flooded the floorboard last summer. We were told that a filter screen was missing and apparently was not installed from the factory and the cowl had taken in leaves and debris. And the water wasn't draining off from the a/c box and flooded the floorboards carpet mats and all. Then they told us they wouldn't replace the carpet. Well I had to take my butt up there and show my ** then called Toyota motor company and told them I was about to go public with the media and all about this crap. The car is new. Sometimes that's what you have to do to get these sorry ass people to do anything about a problem.

Well we got the car fixed and got new carpet and mats and all. We have 6 Toyotas in all and I have to say Toyota has gotten sorry. And the truth is plain and simple they don't care. When they build a vehicle and it's sold to someone, Toyota motor company or the Toyota dealerships could care less if they ever see you again. It's the truth!

If TMC isn't going to fix these vehicles they built and got our hard earned money for, then I think seriously our government should step in and force them to do something. And for those smart mouth people that think they know everything I've heard all the stories about the frame rot and oh those trucks are 10-15 or more years olds. I've got a 1989 and a 1993 Toyota pickup and neither of them have any frame rust or rot. Needless to say I still love my Toyotas but really TMC needs to do more to treat their customers better, just do the right thing. And I know there will be some smart person out there that'll say "oh do you know how much that will cost?"

Do you think the customers that purchased these cheap built vehicles care? Toyota should not have cut corners on quality and they wouldn't have this over their heads would they? They got their dam millions from these poor quality rusted/rotted framed trucks. And all they do now is hide behind their attorneys. TMC should be forced to pay for their screw up. Wake up American government, do something about this poor manufacturing of automobiles. Leaving hardworking Americans in unsafe situations. Very dangerous situations.

The second time in 2010 they put my truck on the lift and said that there was no real problem and that Toyota did not have a fix yet... they were still waiting for the treatment (rust inhibitor spray). Last year, I filed a complaint with Toyota and they told me the warranty was expired - sorry - Out of Luck! Also, the local dealer did not record my visits so there is no record. The burden of repair or final disposition of the vehicle is entirely my problem.

I am disappointed in Toyota's response. This problem is clearly a safety issue. The most rotted part of the frame is in the front crossbar. As it goes, so goes my front end. Luckily I spotted it before I was traveling on the interstate at 70mph and hit the bump that finally causes it to snap. I will be taking it to the body shop and seeing what they can do - I do not have high expectations. Everyone should file a complaint with the National Highways Traffic Safety. Toyota has an extended service program to replace perforated frames or clean and apply rust inhibitor to those which are still intact. I contacted Toyota and requested a case number regarding this issue.

A Toyota customer service rep, who sounded irritated having to deal with me returned my call. I was then advised only a few cold weather states were covered in the frame warranty extension and Colorado is not one of them, unless the frame is perforated. Their campaign expires in March 2016. They are turning their back on the issue of a faulty product by blaming a defective product on a region of the country where salt is used to deice roadways during winter. If you do fill per the dip stick full mark it takes 5 qts of oil. Started noticing major scaling on the frame in 2011, called Toyota and were told nothing can be done because no recalls were issued. We looked into getting the frame coated to help protect it and we were told it wasn't worth it because it would just continue to rust thru. In 2014 our muffler system went due to the defective material from the frame. Had to put out $700 to replace that. Our mechanic told us it was very important that we contact Toyota and make them aware as to how bad the frame was. I called corporate Toyota and they told me to call the dealership. I call the dealership speaking with the VP of communications, told me to call corporate. I called, emailed, took pictures, even put the pictures on Toyota’s Facebook page and was told call the dealership. After all the run around the dealership (VP of Communications) refused to see our truck saying there was nothing they could do because there was no recalls at this time.

Well, finally we got the recall notice and had an apt scheduled asap! Brought the truck in on New Year’s Eve and had it looked at. The local dealership where we bought the truck brand new was beyond horrible with customer service. Making it like it was our fault for the rust. The frame was in very bad shape and they told us there was holes in the frame. Nothing we couldn't drive around with until our frame came in, but in case the frame wasn't in before our truck was due for inspection they would call us and set us up with a loaner. At that time I had requested to speak with someone because we were told that the hitch and bumper weren't part of the recall despite the truck was a purchased TRD tow package vehicle and the defective metal was causing the hitch and bumper to scale. I was supposed to get a call back from a manager named ** which never happened despite my multiple phone calls in to him.

May 29, I still didn't get a call regarding the replacement and we were worried since the inspection was up June 1, 2015. I placed a call into the dealership and was told that we weren't on the list for it to be done so quickly despite giving them the inspection information when we were there in December. Our info was lost. They agreed to get us into a loaner as promised and we could come up that next Monday for the rental. At the time of us arriving to pick up the rental and drop off the truck, mass confusion began to happen once again. Our information wasn't in the system, and they had to manually put it all in again. The VP from communications was involved since all the issues continued to happen. I asked her to come out and see the truck and all the damage to the hitch and bumper and she stated that she wanted the collision manager to come and look at it as well.

I walked out with them and just simply touching the metal it broke off in my hands. They told me that they would discuss with corporate Toyota and see what they could do. Since our frame wasn't in, they weren't sure as to when we would have the truck back. We stated it was fine as long as we had a rental and they were fixing our truck, that was all mattered. We got a call stating we needed to replace the rear leaf springs, shocks, all the fasteners and bushings along with multiple things. With a price quote of $370 not including taxes, BUT it did include the inspection. We were very taken back because the person whom called stated it was all due to the rust of the frame that caused these things to go. So why are we responsible for it all, why isn't this part of the recall?? After we discussed it we decided to just pay for it and have it fixed only so we could say it was all replaced at the same time.

At that time I placed a call to the VP of communications for an update on the hitch and bumper. We were told that it is being worked on and we would have an answer in 24 hours. By 48 hrs later I called back looking for an update, especially since they were just about finished with the framework and I didn't want the bad material to be placed back onto the truck. I was again told they had no answers, but the truck was done and they wanted the rental back. We told them we had no issues with returning the rental, but what about the truck having no bumper at all along with the hitch. It isn't a short drive for us to get to the dealership either. It is 1hr each way so it was very hard for us to make multiple trips back and forth to them.

After some more back and forth they told us to keep the rental until they finalized it with corporate. We got a call from the VP of communications and the manager of collision on a Friday evening telling us that corporate Toyota wouldn't work with them at all. They stated it wasn't part of the recall and they wouldn't replace it for free. We could have it done but it would cost us over $2400 for the repair. Of course we don't have over $2000 to spend on this and I continued to fight longer and harder with them. Pleading with them and threatening an attorney, they agreed to figure out something to fix the defective material. Mind you the whole time they kept on saying they don't represent the manufacture. I told them, “Is your logo attached the vehicle?” They responded, “Yes, it is.” I said, “Well then you are representing the manufacturer that Toyota has chosen to build your frames.”

We went to pick up the truck and within seconds of arriving at the dealership our truck was picked out in the lineup of Tacoma's that were fixed. We noticed the front tow hook was put on backwards. Went in to the dealership to question this and they called the mechanic that fixed it out and had him look at it. Laughing hysterically he said, “HAHAH, I guess I put it on wrong!” Not finding it funny, we asked if he was going to fix it. Settled that issue and went on with checking out and paying our responsibility for the charges (which shouldn't have been our responsibility). The girl checking us out ** gave him a price due of $700 which wasn't what we were told by the mechanic and the VP of communications and the collision manager. The VP came over and told them to correct the price and we were only responsible for the price quoted.

Went out to the Truck to get into it to leave and there is grease everywhere from the dirty hands and feet of the mechanics. Figured, “whatever, truck is done. We will clean it when we get home.” Well... Start the truck drive off and the steering wheel is now making noised clanking noises to be exact. Didn't even get out of the parking lot yet are you kidding me??? Go back in as for the VP again and tell her what is going on. Service manager called in and we were told it wasn't from them. Truck has never had this issue prior to them fixing the frame and if they could put the tow hooks on backwards and find it funny what more damage is done to it. The manager gets into the truck with my husband and again says hmm doesn't think it was from them and it was our responsibility. My husband quickly stated, “This is a 2005 w/only 60,000 miles on it, never damaged and in great shape despite the frame issues. This most definitely is your issue!”

Came in, got setup with a loaner and waiting on the call back about this damage. Next day called in, spoke with the VP again and she was apologetic as to the way things happened and she was working on correcting the issues. She went on to say how they strive for customer service and we shouldn't have been treated badly. She was to call us back and keep us updated on the progress and the actual damage of the steering column. We finally were notified that they had found the problem and they will be ordering the parts to fix it and they will notify us this week to know when it was ready. Checking on it today because the VP was away on vacation, we contacted the collision manager in her place just so we can plan on getting the rental back on our availability from work. When questioned on the damage, we were told it was a steering coupling and it was a very common break with the frame repairs.

So then why did the service manager say it wasn't their fault?? Our truck still isn't finished and it has been in Toyotas hands since June 1, 2015. I have contacted corporate Toyota and I am expecting them to call me today to discuss with me the escalated issues with the service we have gotten. I have requested that the vehicle is looked at by another mechanic since the quality of work isn't where it should be with Toyota Scion of Scranton! NEVER AGAIN will we ever buy a Toyota product!

I bought a 2004 Tacoma crew cab for 6000.+ A few months later while I was pressure washing my truck at the car wash a long narrow piece of rust fell off the bottom of my truck. After examination I found it had came out of the frame on the driver's side. Now there was a gaping hole about 14 inches long & 3 inches wide on the bottom of the frame & a hole in the side that I could put my fist through. I also found another spot on the right rear in front of the leaf spring shackle. It was a larger hole in the side of the frame with about 20 inches missing off the bottom of the frame rail. I looked at the frame a few months before when I 1st purchased the truck. There was surface rust here & there but no holes & most of the frame still had factory paint. The outer body had no rust anywhere on the truck.

I had heard about the frame recall from a guy in the parking lot at Walmart when I was driving my 95 Tacoma. He told me Toyota was either replacing the frames or buying the trucks back. He even looked at the frame on my 95 & was impressed with the shape it was in. He said Toyota paid him almost 3 times what he paid for his 98 Tacoma. I did a little research on the internet & decided to book an appointment for a frame ck. When I called the dealership they asked for the vin # & looked it up. They told me that the only recall warranty on the truck was to replace the spare tire carrier & that the frame was not covered under warranty because I had not taken the truck in for a frame inspection when I was notified back in 2010.

Now we have an issue here as I was never notified by Toyota for a frame inspection on either my 1995 or my 2004 Tacoma. On top of it all I did not own the truck when Toyota said they had sent me the letter for the frame inspection. They would not even book an appointment to inspect the frame. They said they weren't replacing frames in that model of trucks anymore. But I could take it to any dealership to have the spare tire carrier replaced under warranty. I immediately did the needed repairs to my 95 Tacoma as I did not feel safe driving the 2004 & the frame was too far gone to even think of welding it. Now I'm stuck with a truck that is worthless & I have over $6000 invested in it. I'm driving my 95 Tacoma now, the frame is good but the rest of the body is showing its age with rust around the fuel cap & wheel wells, fading paint & a rusty rear bumper.

I'm still making the payments on my 2004 so I can't afford another truck at the present time. I feel Toyota should be responsible for replacing the frame as they put the rotten junk on the road in the 1st place. They admitted it when they extended the frame warranty to 15 yrs. My truck is well within the covered years of warranty. What to do now???

Hose clamps not put, on lights not plugged in, bolts missing on grill. Then after driving for about 200 miles my exhaust was dragging the ground. Dealership said it was due to aftermarket exhaust system I had installed.

The system was on the truck when I purchased it. They had called me numerous times during the frame change about various issues that needed to be fixed but never said anything about missing hangers for the exhaust. My power steering isn't right. They claim it's due to a flat spot in the column. I never had problems before the frame change. So now over $2000 later my frame change is done.

Took truck in for inspection after receiving recall notice for frame rust. Inspection was done, result: "no significant perforation". My Question to dealer "were there any insignificant perforations?" I received no response. I asked if the frame would be sprayed with rust inhibitors. The response was no. My concern: slight problems turning into major ones down the road.

Earlier recalls stated that if there were significant perforations the frame of these trucks would be replaced. If no significant perforations found then the vehicle would be sprayed. This statement concerning spraying was omitted from my recall letter. I called Toyota HQ, they declined to spray the truck. However there are issues with these frames because they were improperly coated or not coated at all in my opinion, and this is why they are being recalled.

Any slight perforations I have may turn into significant ones and after the recall remedy has expired. Toyota HQ said I could address the issue at a later date. I had the inspection done today, they won't inspect it again months from now. First Toyota I have ever bought, love the truck, it's beautiful but has had 4 recalls to date. Since Toyota won't spray the frame with rust inhibitors I won't be buying another vehicle from them and suggest that everyone be leery as well.

In November 2014, we got a recall notice to have our 2005 Toyota Tacoma checked for frame rust. My husband took it back to the dealer we purchased the vehicle from the weekend before Thanksgiving. The dealer had said they would inspect it and it would probably just need a spray coating. They lent my husband a loaner car and said they would be in touch. The next day we received a call saying that the truck's frame was completely rusted and it would need a new one, which would take 4-6 weeks.

My husband had to go back every 21 days to renew his loaner contract, however they noticed a small scratch on the front bumper (smaller than a finger nail length). They kept it to have it assessed and came back that with a quote of $597 to pay for the scratch! Some free rental car, huh? That was in February 2015. Needless to say we no longer utilize Toyota's "free" rental service and are using a family member's 2nd car so my husband can drive to and from work! I have been in touch with our Toyota Corporate rep out in California a few times. Each time it's another song and dance about how a 4-6 week frame replacement turned into a 10-12 week replacement, to a 16-18 week and now another delay of 20-22 weeks.

We dropped our truck off at the dealer the weekend before Thanksgiving of 2014 and I actually got a ship date of April 3, 2015 (with a 8-10 day delivery estimate). When I called back for a status update, I was told that the frame shipping date was now pushed back another 3-4 weeks, which brings me to around May 3, 2015! Our truck has been sitting idle for almost 20 weeks and Toyota deems this acceptable! I come from a family of Toyota owners and have owned 6 of them myself! I cannot even fathom what has been happening here! And the real kicker is to find out that I may have to pay for parts the dealer claims need replacing when they are trying to put the car back together!

Again, this "free" Toyota Support Program (Don't call it a recall because I was told by my rep it's a customer support program. And recalls are federally mandated, which this program is not, although my notice said "recall" on it!) is turning out not to be free at all!!! I have been a loyal customer to Toyota for over 15 years and this whole experience has been an extreme nightmare! Toyota has dropped the ball on their quality of product and service, efficiency, timeliness and customer support! Shame on you Toyota!

I traded in a 2003 GMC Sonoma in October 2006 for a brand new 07 Tacoma. My experience with GM was awful. The Sonoma was so bad that I felt lucky to go 2 oil changes without a major part going bad. I went through 3 water pumps. A starter, had an ignition switch blow on me that almost left me stranded. The truck also made a whistling noise at low speeds during cold weather that the dealer never could find, and somehow the drive shaft got bent. The day I got rid of it I was told that another water pump was leaking. That was enough. I was tired of being nickled and dimed to death.

I traded it in for the 07 Tacoma that I currently own. Around 80000 miles the heater core malfunctioned. The extended warranty at first refused to cover it saying it was corrosion. O'Brien Toyota in Urbana Il argued that my maintenance was up to date and they succeeded in turning a $1300 repair into a $100 deductible. I had my first 2 wear & tear problems at 150000 miles. Two u-joints.

This truck has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I am currently having my frame replaced in the recall and I respect Toyota for doing this. It will cost them over $11000 to do the recall. Much better than GM's 57 cent ignition switch that they had to be forced by the government to replace. If my truck was totaled in a wreck, I would immediately buy another one without hesitation.

I got a recall call for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma frame. I gladly took my truck into the dealership to have it looked at. I was told that my frame was bad and it would have to be replaced. I was told it would be replaced within 3-5 weeks. I accepted it and I was given a rental vehicle. I was then told that there was 4 other items that were not covered in the recall that needed to be replaced, which were the rear shocks, front struts, sway bar links, and the muffler. I was not happy when he told me $1600+ to replace these items.

It has been now over 3 1/2 months since my vehicle went into Toyota. I have become extremely suspicious of whether or not those additional items actually need to be replaced or if Toyota just told me this because they are fearful that they would damage the parts when they replaced the frame. I called corporate Toyota and explained to them the situation as well as added my truck has been sitting idol with 3 month old oil, 3 month old gas, most likely a dead battery, and flat spots in the tires. Not to mention a lost money having my company wrapped vehicle away from me for over 3 months now. Corporate Toyota does not seem to care at all. They do not care that they are creating more damage to my truck or stealing money from a valuable Toyota customer.

No one at Toyota cares. They have screwed me out of my vehicle for over 3 1/2 months now, are creating more damage to it, and are not doing what they should for their loyal customers. I would recommend that you as a prospective vehicle purchaser go somewhere else than Toyota because they do not give a ** about their customers. They are a screwed up company and will look to stick it to you if it will hurt them in the pockets. TOYOTA SCREW JOB.

I previously had this vehicle in the shop on multiple occasions for repairs to the brakes and wheels where the damage could easily have been noted, but was never told of the issue or of the supposed recall or "Buy Back" of Tacoma's. After the frame broke I went to the dealer and asked if there was any cure and was told that I had just barely missed a buy back option. Very disappointed in the Tacoma, and even more disappointed in the way Toyota handled this and continued to produce a substandard / unsafe vehicle into the present. Personally, I find it hard to believe the government hasn't stepped in on an obvious risk to human safety (both in and out of the vehicle) with these trucks. Was previously a loyal customer of toyota, doubt I ever will buy another.

Frame rust on 2001 toyota tacoma - I purchased this truck in October 2012, I had no knowledge of the rust problems in the Toyota trucks. I discovered the problem while I was under the truck doing some service work. There are large holes in the frame near the spring shackles at the rear of the truck. I contacted corporate Toyota, they told me to take it to a dealer to get it inspected, and gave me a case number to refer to. I took it to a dealer in Sandy Utah for the inspection. I did not know where the truck was originally purchased, but I was informed that the truck was from Pennsylvania. I looked for information online about the rust issues, and was shocked to learn about all of the problems over the years.

I have owned many Toyotas over the years and had been very happy. My last truck a 1989 had no problems at all with rust. I thought they were great trucks until this one. The dealer contacted me and told me there was nothing they could do, that Toyota could no longer replace the frame. I contacted corporate Toyota many more time. They told me that the 15 year warranty for the frame no longer applied, and would do nothing to repair or replace my truck. Because I was to take the truck to a dealer to have the truck undercoated again by 2011, I did not buy the truck until 2012, Toyota did not care what the circumstances were. They would not even give me anything on a trade for a new truck!

I have since learned a lot about the problems on the internet. How Toyota got a settlement out of Dana Corporation on a lawsuit over poor quality steel because it did not have enough nickel in the steel to prevent rusting. I have owned a Toyota of one kind or another, cars and trucks since 1976. This is my last one. I will never have another Toyota. If this is the kind of customer service they provide, they should be ASHAMED. Hello Chevy Colorado! I will never have another Toyota. If this is the kind of customer service they provide, they should be ashamed.

We own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 6 cycle pre-runner short cab...This past weekend we were involved in a car accident on the freeway. There needs to be a recall immediately!!! This is a serious safety concern and this can definitely result in someone losing their life! My two toddlers and husband were in the car. Fortunately, the accident took place as we entered the freeway and we had not picked up speed yet. We pressed the brake pedal way ahead of time. However, the car did not stop like it should have. So we pressed the brake harder, the pedal became hard and the car did not stop! We rear ended another vehicle.

The cars were not damaged, as we had pressed the brakes way ahead of time. As we drove off the freeway, the brakes continued to be locked and car began to smoke. Our family would have been in more danger, had we stayed on the freeway. We had to get our car towed to our mechanic. The master cylinder, brakes, brake pads, fluid, caliper, all had to be replaced!

About a year ago or so, we called Toyota to ask if any recalls were in place for our truck. We were concerned because our truck was making a THUMP on its own, when sitting at a traffic light. We also had questions about the brakes, since they had failed to make a complete stop once. We continued to drive the truck this way, not knowing how much danger our family could have been in. Toyota informed us that there were no recalls pertaining to brakes or transmission. I will be calling Toyota tomorrow after reading all these complaints. These are valid complaints that need to be addressed ASAP! I had the car fixed and was charged 1,094 by my mechanic. I will be seeking a refund from Toyota.

Until a week ago, I respected Toyota, but they did me wrong, and I want to tell my story. If one person reads this and has a better outcome than me, fantastic. If a lot of people read this and Toyota gets slapped, then my mission will be accomplished. TL/DR: I know a lot of you have Toyotas, and I hope you are happy with them. Please get your vehicles frame checked regularly. Some models have a severe problem with frame rust, making them profoundly unsafe. Unlike other vehicle safety issues you may have heard about, there is no recall for this, and as I found out, there is no remedy for the owner either.

On 12/1/2014 I took our 2002 Toyota Tacoma to our usual shop for what I thought would be regular mechanical repairs (I thought my alternator was failing). What happened was the mechanics said the truck’s frame, that huge piece of metal that everything is built upon was so badly rusted they would not even put the truck on a lift. They said they literally have had Toyota trucks break in two in their shop, while on a lift, due to rusted frames. I’m not talking about surface rust here. I’m talking about a hole big enough to pass my hand through.

It turns out Toyota knows about this problem too, but somehow no regulatory action has ever occurred. No recall was ever issued. On the internet I learned Toyota ran a program (from 2009 to 2012, I believe) where they were compensating owners with these frame problems. So I called Toyota corporate. The rep confirmed there was indeed a program, and mailed owners about it several times. Mind you, I was the second owner. I emphatically told her I never received notices of the program, and didn’t know about the rust until 12/1/2014. Nevertheless, Toyota closed my case by telling me the program closed and they will take no further action. None.

So what I thought was a $5000 asset is actually a $200 scrapheap that isn’t even safe to drive. Toyota knew about this material defect, didn’t care that I didn’t get the memo (the rep herself suggested these might have been mailed to the previous owner, HELLO?), and basically I showed up too late to be remedied. Needless to say, I will not be shopping for a Toyota any time soon. And I promised the rep (who was very polite, and I did not blame her personally), that I would do my best to prove to Toyota that while they may have closed their financial liability on this rust problem, they can expect to feel the impacts of bad publicity for not taking care of the customers who slipped through the cracks.

Now a proud owner of a 2004 Toyota Tacoma with a broken frame. The representative that we talked to at Toyota said the truck was JUNK. It did not receive a certain undercoating that happened to be a recall that we were NEVER notified of. We bought the truck used from Midstate Auto (a Dodge/ Jeep) dealership in November of 2005. They would not service the truck so we had to bring the truck to a Toyota dealer (Courtesy Toyota). They never mentioned ANY recalls or any to-do's that needed to be done.

8 Years later we find out about the undercoating issue the hard way. The frame broke on the way home one afternoon. I have been a proud owner of Toyota Tacomas since 1999 - have leased several. My son wanted to buy this Toyota and spend many years with it to get him back & forth to school/work. He is now without transportation and has no money to put towards another vehicle. When you spend $18,000.00 for a truck it should last you longer than 8 years.

I have lost ALL respect for Toyota and the way they handled this situation. If we had known about the recall and ignored that then I could understand, but when you haven't been notified then it is hard to handle. The FRAME BROKE. What more should they care about, luckily no one got hurt. No longer a proud owner and love talking about my experience. Toyota has disappointed me and I share that as much as I can also.

I'm deeply disappointed in the current corporate model that does not correct or stand behind their product. There was a time when quality mattered, but since there are no known issues or current recalls relating to the bumper, nor the rear axle and differential that is so rusted that the fill plug cannot be taken out, all the while small rust cracks are leaking fluid for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. My vehicle is outside of the warranty parameters, and since Toyota is unwilling to offer any assistance for my bumper and the rear end concern I feel that I can be of no further assistance in talking about your product in a positive manner to friends and family. In fact I can say with certainty that it will be quite the opposite.

Toyota's reply to my concern in both instances were to tell me the same thing from their script, which follows: We sincerely apologize for your dissatisfaction with the information we have provided regarding the bumper and rust issue for your 2005 Toyota Tacoma, but since there are no current related recalls. As previously mentioned, please be aware the information you have provided is used in combination with warranty claims and other customer contacts to track trends with our vehicles. Furthermore just take your truck to your nearest dealer and have them correct the problem (AT MY COST!!??). AND If in the future a Special Service Campaign (SSC)/recall or warranty enhancement is issued that would cover your specific issue, and you have already made repairs to the vehicle, Toyota would review your repairs for reimbursement at that time. Your disappointment has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #** and we apologize again for any inconvenience you may have experienced. I'm now in arbitration over this issue, and Toyota acts like I'm the only one, but I have friends that are dealing with this same issue. In my opinion buyers should avoid these trucks. Once this issue plagues your Tacoma you most likely will always have to deal with it or move on to a different make. My 82 yr old Dad bought a 2001 Tacoma in 2002. He takes care of it like a baby. If it snows he gets under the truck and sprays the snow and salt off. He drives it in the rain. He goes under it and sprays mud off. He has ALWAYS responded to all the recalls. When he went for a recall a month or so ago. It was for the spare tire holder under the truck. When he came home he crawled under the truck to see exactly what they had done. That's when he noticed his frame was rusting. He called our local Toyota Dealer. They said there had been a recall and nothing could be done now. They also told him it was very dangerous to drive. He said so I guess I have nice pile of junk in my drive. They said we guess so.

I called the Toyota Corporate Office. Explained all of this. They said according to his VIN# he was sent 7 recall notices between Feb 2010 and Oct. 2010. The recall expired in Sept. 30, 2011. I said but he didn't receive them. I asked them if they could see that he had responded to all the other recalls. They said using his VIN#, yes they could see that. I told them he was very upset and thought at his age the truck would outlast him. He doesn't have any money to purchase another. All he wanted was his truck repaired and the recall honored. I have spoken to several corporate employees in the last month or so. They all say once a recall is closed that is the end. There is nothing they can do.

He and my 80 year old Mom have their mail sometime delivered to the wrong street but same address number. Like tax refunds. But if the recall letters were dropped off there, they never received them. They have lived in their house for 59 yrs. Toyota said maybe our family could purchase him another Toyota. NO WAY!!!! After the way they have handled this. Why would my Dad ignore this very important recall when he has responded to the others. I will make sure I tell everyone I come in contact. Do not buy a Toyota.

Now they are saying for me to take it back to the dealer during the week so the service manager can check them. How hard is to fix the the breaks? And why they can't get it right? Received the recall letter for my Tacoma in July 2014. Called 802 Toyota in Berlin, Vermont for service and was told they could not look at my truck until December. At that time I did not know how bad the rust issue was or even that they had a recall underway. I took the vehicle in for inspection in August to a mechanic not associated with Toyota. I was told the vehicle would not pass inspection because the left rear shackle was rusted through and therefore unsafe to drive. Was told to take it the local Toyota dealer to have it repaired, which I did.

I was told by the service department at 802 Toyota that the left rear shackle was fine but there was a hole in the frame so it wouldn't pass inspection. I have seen the shackle - it is not fine. My assumption - Toyota doesn't want to replace it now because it will be part of the frame replacement. I was then told that a new frame was needed for the truck but that I was "number 119 in line" and wouldn't get a new frame for six months.

My options: park the truck for 6 months (or however long it took before they had a frame) or trade it in for something else. I asked if they would give me a loaner for that time or if they had a buy back program and was told "No, Toyota doesn't do that." They would prefer to put a $13,000 frame on my 8-year-old truck than do a buy back. Why? Perhaps because if they had to buy back all of these defective Toyotas, they can no longer promote how long their vehicles stay on the road.

My truck is 8 years old, has 88,000 miles on it, and can no longer be driven. So I can let it sit for months or buy another Toyota. Unfortunately, it would have to be a Toyota because right now the truck has no value to any other dealers. But Toyota knows it is going to get a $13,000 frame. I have a suggestion for a new slogan for Toyota - "Our customers are loyal to us because they have no choice." And how is it that Toyota is able to produce plenty of frame for the new Tacomas but existing customers just have to stand in line. I would guess if I traded in my Tacoma, the local dealership would have a frame to put on it in much less than 6 months so they can put it out on their lot and sell it.

Today is Monday August 10, 2014. About 4 years ago I received a letter informing me that there is a major recall on the Tacoma pickup trucks concerning potential damage to the carriage frame resulting from RESULT!!! I brought the truck into Koons Toyota, Annapolis, MD. They inspected the undercarriage and sprayed the undercoating. Today (8/10/14) they claimed I signed off on it the first time around. So therefore, they WON'T help me.

Yesterday I took back to the dealership my 1997 Toyota Tacoma extended cab pickup truck because my brother discovered the rust proofing materials that they sprayed on the frame and surrounding areas has come off. Which means, if I'm correct, and please let me know, if the auto body dept had sand blasted the frame (which they didn't) THEN sprayed the undercoating, I wouldn't be having this problem.

NOW, the rust has eaten through the leaf spring shackles which are welded to the frame. I can't believe the amount of rust that is there. The undercoating is GONE! Up front is worse. We, as consumers, should band together by forming a CLASS ACTION against Toyota for INEXCUSABLE and DEPLORABLE business practices. Apparently Toyota has this problem before. AND to beat all hell, I sold my '97 tacoma to my brother! LET'S BAND TOGETHER all you fellow TACOMIANS! I wouldn't own another Toyota if it were the last brand name available!! I HATE THEM!!!

I purchased a 1997 Toyota Tacoma in 2010. I brought my truck into the Wallingford, CT dealership to have the frame checked on I believe 2 occasions. I was told that there was signs of rust but the frame was in good condition. Keep in mind this was still within the extended frame rot warranty. Two years later, the frame is completely rusted thru right at the rear wheel. Now a frame that is in good and safe condition cannot rot thru in a short period of time. It would take years. I brought the truck back to Wallingford and was told that they took several pictures and the frame was safe. So I called Toyota and was told that there was nothing they could for me because the extended warranty was over. So the failure on the part of the dealership to properly check the frame leaves me with with a very unsafe truck to drive and unable to purchase something else.

To keep things short, I will list all that I've had to deal with, and that Toyota never stepped up and backed any of these problem - even after several attempts, and at 3 different dealerships. Three clutch replacements before 100k miles $1,500 out-of pocket. It was found out on clutch number 3, that the flywheel was cut wrong, so it needed replacing ($600 out-of-pocket). Did rear spring TSB, but Toyota did not set the rear diff pinion angle correctly, so it destroyed the drive-shaft carrier bearing ($900 out-of-pocket). 5-speed transmission failed at 60K miles - due to 2 cracked gears ($2,100 out-of-pocket). Front diff left shaft bearing failure twice ($1,600 out-of-pocket). Catalytic converter failure due to defective 02 sensor ($2,200 out-of-pocket). Front wheel bearing failure at 80K miles - complained about this at 60K miles ($1,000 out-of-pocket).

The truck is at 126K miles, and now I'm dealing with a frame rust problem (and I live in the High Desert where humidity averages at 10%). I called Toyota about this, and have yet to hear back - boy am I surprised. On a last note, during the time I was having to deal with most of these problems, I contacted Corporate Toyota (even sending a letter to the CEO - to which my letter was sent back to me), and was never offered any positive dispute resolution. For over 14 years, I have been a loyal Toyota customer and have purchased 5 top-of-the-line vehicles from them. I today am so upset to be a Toyota customer. Their corporate level customer service is the worst. My husband has been for months trying to get someone to help with his Toyota Tacoma that has one of the faulty frames that rusted and developed big holes in the frame which made the otherwise good truck unable to pass inspection and undrivable. On top of that, the corrosion from the frame cause a total brake line failure while he and our two small children were in the truck. The failure caused him to have to go through a red light and maneuver into the dealership without hitting anything until he crashed into a ditch in the back of the woods of the dealership.

This was days before the limited service campaign was announced that would replace these faulty frames in 2005 and older Tacomas. My husband and children were traumatized and they just put them in a rental and got them out of the dealership. My husband had to stop as his legs were shaking so bad and that is how they sent him out. We then spent days on the line with corporate who said they would cover the rental, etc.

Then we got a call from the dealership - if we did not pay for the brake line repair on the truck, we would be charged storage fees and we had to pay for the rental. Since the repairs would be covered in the frame replacement, we paid and paid for the rental as corporate assured us we would be reimbursed. We also found out that prior to the service campaign, they have been replacing these frames to squeaky wheels and even paying for the rental cars for those customers.

Tuesday night, we were told that since the program was in phases, even though our state was on the list, we would have to wait months. The woman said to see if the dealership would cover a rental and if not call back. The dealership will not cover the rental and so I called back and I escalated things speaking to a Steve ** who took all of the information. He just called back and in the most callous way without one ounce of human compassion or kindness stated that, "Sorry there is nothing we can do for you. You will have to wait and you are responsible for a rental and all the fees incurred. When the phase goes through in your state, we will review it and let you know if we will cover any of the cost."

When I asked how they helped other customers out prior to the campaign, he sidestepped it and double spoke to try and lie his way out. I told him I was so sad, disgusted and ashamed that I have been a customer for 14 years and this is how I am treated. He was like a robot, not one ounce of sympathy or customer care. I asked to appeal to someone and he told me he was the highest and that corporate had authorized him to handle this.

So we have a truck that is undrivable, a rental we need to pay hundreds of dollars for and find a vehicle for my husband to drive while we wait months for the campaign to begin in our state and we are not even given any help. I feel like taking my Sienna AWD Limited and driving it there and leaving it. I am so ashamed to own Toyotas. Shame on them for treating people like this and my family could have been killed and they have not one ounce of compassion. What an eye opener.

My new 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road V6 4.0L developed an engine knock after I picked it up from the 5,000 miles maintenance visit at my dealership. Upon taking it back immediately, the head technician said, and I quote, "That is just something these new Tacoma's do". The service director at the the dealership wanted to have the regional Toyota FTS agent look at it. The FTS agent too said that this knock is, and again I quote "normal as listed on page 547 of owner's manual.... FTS verified engine noise described as engine ping under light throttle.... On page 547 of the owner's manual this is a normal condition under specific driving characteristics and not as a result of a mechanical defect. FTS concludes vehicle is operating within manufacturers specifications". On page 547 of the Tacoma owner's manual it states that "You may occasionally notice light knocking for a short time while accelerating of driving uphill. This is normal and there is no need for concern".

In no way is engine knock "normal" and it most definitely is detrimental to the engine. By Toyota putting this in their manual, it is saying they knowingly put out a substandard product. At this time Toyota has no fix for it nor has any communication I have had with the dealership or corporate tells me they are concerned by it. The Toyota name, I thought, stood for quality. I do not have a quality truck. In no way should it knock while accelerating... everywhere I go and anytime of day like it does. Using 91 octane gas seems to help somewhat, but Toyota refuses to reimburse me as they always state that the knock is normal.

If on page 600 of the Tacoma manual it states that the fuel type needed is 87 octane, then it should run perfectly on 87 octane. I have asked Toyota for reimbursement for the difference in fuel price, they denied that request. I asked them to take the truck back, they denied that request as well. They refused to issue me an extended warranty as compensation. They offered to have me fill out paperwork and have a third party arbitrator look at the case. Shame on Toyota for putting out this inferior product.

I purchased my 2004 Tacoma in May of 2013. I found it with 89,000 miles and it only had one owner. When looking at the truck, I saw that the exterior was in great shape. I looked at the outside of the frame and it seemed to have minimal rusting. After purchasing the truck, I entered my VIN at Toyota's "Safety Recalls & Service Campaigns" website to see what recalls/service notices it had. NOTHING...

Within a few weeks of purchasing the truck, I had the transmission fluid flushed as well as the spare tire holder replaced (a recall due to none other than rust). This was done at Kings Toyota in Cincinnati, OH. In addition, I asked them to inspect the frame since I knew some Toyota's had an issue. They completed the service and told me the frame was FINE, and told me how there was a satisfactory program that had ended the previous December. I had to bring the truck back once parts came in to have the work finished, and again they neglected to tell me about the SERIOUS DANGER associated with my frame.

On 3 other occasions during that same summer, I had it in for other service performed underneath the vehicle, and NOT ONCE were the large holes in the frame mentioned, nor did the office, when they entered my VIN, did anyone mention the CSP had not been performed. They did try to up sell me on new tires, and explained the safety issue of tires as their tread wears.

I was at 2 different Toyota dealerships for 4 separate service appointments and not once did anyone from Toyota flag the issue with my frame, nor the serious safety risk. Two of the services included other known improper corrosion resistance issues - a tire carrier requiring replacement, and a corroded parking brake requiring replacement components. Work for both of these was performed right next to the very obvious frame "holes".

After noticing the holes myself, I brought it to a 3rd Toyota Dealership, who said that the defect is present on my vehicle, that if it was their truck they would not drive it another mile due to the safety concern, and that the dealership would not do anything about it as the CSP ended 12/31/12. When I called Toyota customer support, and explained all of the information above, they told me that there was nothing they would do.

It came natural to him after many years of great service & reliable vehicles, that upon retirement 10 years ago, he made the choice to purchase a brand new Toyota Tacoma to "ride him into his golden years." Or so we thought... Who would think ten years later, his truck would now hold the value of a heap of scrap metal (about $200)? Thanks to the substandard metals used to make the frame. Not only will it not pass state inspection, but also puts his life & the lives of other motorists in extreme danger!

Upon multiple visits to the Toyota dealership repair shop, they concluded that the only thing they were willing to repair would be the (re-called) lift plate that holds up the spare tire. Who really cares if the spare tire is at risk of falling off because of the rust, when the whole truck could fall apart from it's frame at any given moment due to that same metal & rust! Sad that this Father's Day may have to be spent truck shopping for my Dad. Not by choice & also with a vehicle that at only 10 YEARS OLD, has ZERO trade or resale value! I don't feel we are asking too much, or for more than we deserve. Only for Toyota to DO THE RIGHT THING & take care of the people that have poured their HARD-EARNED MONEY & TRUST into this company over the years!

The truck has been in the garage for one full month and still no solution. A new transfer case was recently ordered, was on back order, then one was apparently shipped and received at the local Toyota Service in St. John's, Newfoundland, but wait there was no record of the part received and the shipping company has no record of it being shipped.

Oh, by the way, I have found the local Toyota Service people very friendly, warm, and helpful but they are getting the support and parts from Toyota Canada. I completed an application for Arbitration and I had a Toyota Service supervisor call me and tell me that she has confirmation, and she promised that a part will be at our local service department Monday morning and she will call me early afternoon to give me an update. She had also arranged for me to have a Tacoma truck to replace the present Corolla loaner vehicle so that I could use it during the weekend. I told her that I haven't used the Corolla as the insurance deductible on service cars is $2500.00 and I could not afford to have an unlikely accident so I do not use it, except when absolutely required.

I asked her the same question that I asked the Toyota Canada service representative earlier this week when I learned that the part (transfer case) was on back order. I asked why a transfer case part could not be removed from a new vehicle from the local Toyota lot and used to repair my car - or at least to ascertain if that indeed is the problem. She said that would disable another Tacoma. I explained that only one Tacoma would be disabled, and that would be the new truck from the lot. My Tacoma would supposedly be repaired and I suggested that after having my truck stuck in service for one month, this should be done as a priority "given" to get me back in my Tacoma. She said that they will not do this, now, as the new part is confirmed to be at the service center on Monday morning. If that part is not there on Monday morning, then they will do as I suggested - removing the part from a new truck.

I asked her why this was not done before this, with the part listed on back order, and she said that she was sorry, but moving forward, this part will be there Monday. She suggested when all is said and done and the truck has been repaired, they will look at compensation for my trouble. I had told her that I bought this 4 x 4 truck for winter, snowy roads and so that I could go to my cabin and enjoy the winter. I told her that I expected to have the truck for about five years so iI have lost one winter - (which equates to about 20% of my expected winter use). She explained to me that Arbitration allows for them to have reasonable time to repair the truck before a case is settled.

I asked her what is considered reasonable, one week, two weeks, one month, two months, five years? I suggested to her that if Toyota Canada wanted to give good service to me, a new truck owner, in its first winter, the truck would not be in service for one full month or longer. The part would have been at the service center a long time ago. Her subordinate - the service rep that was supposedly handling the case told me that unfortunately, the transfer case is too heavy to air freight to the local service center. I told her that my son is the manager at our local Purolater shipping company and he has told me that he has seen transfer cases for all make of vehicles shipped through them via air freight. He also seen transfer cases and other huge parts for large Case tractors shipped by air freight. My son told me that if Toyota was willing to pay the freight it could be shipped by air.

So far no resolution to this non-effective service by Toyota Canada. My oldest son bought himself a 2013 Nissan Triton - excellent truck - no problems. My youngest son has a 2006 Nissa Sentra that purrs like a kitten all through the winter and summer. My middle son is extremely happy with his Nissan Altima and with regular maintenance, he expects to have his vehicle for many trouble free years. My wife almost bought a 2014 Corolla, but 2- 3 weeks ago, she changed her mind and bought a lovely brand new Nissan Sentra that she loves to drive. I was the chump who bought the Tacoma!

I own a 2005 Tacoma with 123,000 Km on the clock and last month on regular servicing was told that the body mounts have rust holes in them and that there is significant scale on the frame. The dealer approached Toyota Canada with no satisfaction. I called Toyota Canada with my own complaint. They refused to accept responsibility and were downright rude on the phone. So now I have a truck which is immaculate everywhere but where it really counts - the frame. I have owned Toyota vehicles for 29 years. This is my last one!

At first, they took all my information so they can open a 'claim' that would be followed up with a call by somebody that can resolve my issue. I got a call back to be simply informed that they bear no responsibility, its my problem and there is no manager or anyone else that they would allow me to talk to. I feel strangled, violated, and taken advantage of. How is it possible that a company can acknowledge a real problem and do nothing about it. After reading the hundreds of posts regarding the issue, I see that its extremely widespread and needs to end now. Any class action lawyer would love a suit of this nature. In the past year or more, I was experiencing my vehicle shutting itself off when I got in to start it. It would start, run a couple seconds then shut down. I thought I had a gasoline problem at first, but that was not the case. I decided to change out ignition keys as I had a new non-use key, and guess what, the problem was not anymore! I have come to realize that the tumbler (on the steering) column was going back (getting sloppy inside) and this had caused the ignition key to engage and start the truck but then again, the truck automatically shut itself down seconds later. I even got the truck into the drive position a couple of times, as I went about 2 feet then the truck shut off. Only until I switched out keys... this has not happen again. Toyota has a problem with the ignition tumbler!!! It gets sloppy and shuts off the truck.

I am aware about the recent GM products that this has happened with (vehicles self-shutting off) even while in transit. I'm afraid that the Toyota products are going to have the same troubles. I will contact my nearest dealer to make them aware of this problem but I have NO confidence that they will even acknowledge this problem. As I had had different problems in past with this same vehicle, had to get downright nasty with dealership for many months, prior to any satisfaction results to get things fixed. I'm ready to go back to a good ol' American Ford or Dodge product!!! Better Built!!

Well after reading numerous accounts about frame rust on Toyota Tacomas, I have to say that I'm in the same category as many others with sufficient frame rust on an otherwise good looking truck. I am the second owner who purchased this truck from a friend who was working in New Hampshire where she bought the truck. When taking in the vehicle to my local garage for inspection in 2010, it was suggested to me that I should consider getting it undercoated as it was starting to show sufficient rust on the undercarriage. I did this but when returning for another inspection this past summer, 2013 I was told it would not pass inspection due to sufficient rust on the frame.

I took my own action and had welding work done on the frame at my own cost of over $900 and it subsequently passed inspection. Now the worst part started. I lodged a complaint with Toyota Canada who told me there was nothing they could do because the vehicle was purchased in the USA and that I should contact Toyota USA concerning the frame issues. Having done research and reading numerous complaints of similar problems with other Toyota customers, it was evident that some frames had been replaced by the company but most weren't.

I lodged a complaint and eventually received a call from a "customer agent" who told me there was nothing I could do as the truck wasn't registered in the US and the recall bulletin had expired concerning a 15-yr time frame. He said they couldn't do anything else other than record my concerns and passed the buck saying I should contact Toyota Canada. At this point after some arguing with him, he agreed to accept correspondence from me (reluctantly and probably just to get rid of me). I promptly registered it and found there were two recall notices for this vehicle, completed my detailed package including photographs, receipts for repairs and a request for reimbursement for the repairs I had done.

Never heard anything back for months and months and finally sent in another complaint in December 2013. I received a response back saying my customer agent would be contacting me on January 13, 2014. Well, I am still waiting and no call or response from Toyota as yet. I plan to follow this course and continue to try and get some kind of response from Toyota USA. But I am appalled by the attitude and neglect by this company to deliver a quality customer service to their customers. This uncaring attitude will definitely drive valued customers away from purchasing other Toyota vehicles. If I can't get any satisfactory response from the agents I'm dealing with in due course, I plan to submit my complaint all the way to the head corporation in Japan. It doesn't matter where the truck was purchased - Canada or the USA, it's still a Toyota and it has defects that are well documented and should be taken care of. Maybe if we pester them to the end of the earth we might get a rise out of them.

2006 Tacoma has hole rusted through frame - Last year during my inspection Hanover Toyota informed me that there was surface rust on my frame. I was shocked a truck that new could have frame rust already but they told me it was not a problem yet and that nothing could be done about it then. This year I take my truck in for inspection and they fail it because a hole has now rusted through. Toyota Corp. will do nothing even though they have already had to replace or buy back many pre 2005 models for the VERY SAME REASON!!!

After over 20 plus hrs. of internet research I have come to the definite conclusion that nothing will be done until people start getting hurt or killed. Several owners have seen trucks less than 10 years old have to be junked or are forced to pay upwards of $15000 for total frame replacement. There is no excuse whatsoever for Toyota to neglect claims in this extreme circumstance. $25,000 plus investment on a truck that is a possible scrap heap at 8 years and 115k miles. That is flat out stealing from their customers. This problem already cost them in the past and it's now very apparent that they never really fixed it as this problem is widespread.

For all those who are facing these frame rusting issues remember that Toyota waited until multiple deaths and serious accidents along with intense media coverage of the acceleration issue occurred before they took real action on that problem! These truck frames are dropping like flies and if we wait for Toyota to help us we will all have beautiful Tacoma paperweights to sell to the junkyard! TAKE ACTION NOW AND SPREAD THE WORD! File a claim with Toyota corp. and then the minute they tell you there is nothing they can do hang up and set out to share your exp. with every consumer group, safety risk reporting agency, and if possible media outlets.

I have begun emailing my detailed exp. to every local news station and also CNN Headline News and Fox News Channel who were both instrumental in putting light on Toyota Corp's obvious neglect of serious customer issues. The choices are simple: 1)Take the loss and shell out big money to replace the vehicle. 2) Shell out big money to repair or replace your frame. 3) Do what you can to turn up the heat on Toyota by sharing your story EVERY way possible. Be accurate and be detailed. The only help we are gonna get is going to come from ourselves. Good luck and don't stop spreading the word including telling potential Toyota buyers about your experience so they can be informed in advance about the type of company they are about to give their very hard earned money to.

Problem reoccurred 11/04/13 with 32,713 miles and horn stopped working several months prior. I verified its cause as faulty spiral cable. Toyota said to take it to dealer to verify and I was led to believe they would cover the part and I said I would pay labor. Took to NYE Toyota in Oneida, NY and 15 min after I left it, they called said couldn't warranty none of it. Said I hit something with the headlight and there were no codes for the horn not working. Upset, I went back there to show how I had not hit anything and there is no such thing as a code for horn not working. They took it back with a new attitude and replaced the headlight and verified horn didn't work because faulty spiral cable.

I paid the $456.42, faxed a copy so Toyota can reimburse $311.65 for the headlight and give me go ahead for the spiral cable replacement. Toyota called me, said they will only pay for the headlight not the spiral cable. I put in another call and their supervisor said flat out no, they won't even pay the labor for the cable to confirm my claim. I had to pay for their 5 minute diagnoses for cable of $82.95 (already had the plastic around the steering column removed). I was so upset my parents were going to buy each new Camry's. I got them a 2014 Honda Accords a red and a black and I got a Suzuki Equator for myself. The Tacoma will be going after winter. Toyota won the battle but lost the sales. I put the OEM spiral cable in myself, takes 15 minutes. Toyota going to have to pay that one who plays Jan on the commercial more to try to convince people that Toyota is a safe and reliable car. I don't believe it and I certainly won't buy it.

I think the only reason my truck isn't rusting is because I had it rust proofed twice and redid it by hand with roofing cement and motorcycle chain lube. Toyota corporate attitude is the worst I have experienced telling me as long as spiral cable verified bad by dealer, they would pay for the part and then back out. They said they needed it confirmed for Toyota then why did I have to pay for them to know? I should have just replace both headlights with better looking aftermarket and do the spiral cable and never deal with Toyota. I would have not paid as much that way.

Just got the news yesterday that my '06 Tacoma's frame has rusted to the point that there is now a hole in it. The truck has 83K miles on it and is in perfect condition. I baby it to the point that my wife actually makes fun of me. And now this news. The dealer's service manager told me to call the Consumer Relations number and they would make it right. I wasn't super excited to hear that my frame was shot after 7 years of driving in central Kentucky, but hearing Toyota would fix it did make me feel a little better. Unfortunately, when I spoke to Toyota, they had a different story. They told me that they were doing research, but as of yesterday, they did not have sufficient evidence to suggest there was a problem with the '06 and are offering nothing to replace or repair the truck. So after having a buy back program of some kind up to '04 models, they apparently thought the problem had been taken care of. They were wrong.

I explained to the Customer Relations rep that their stance would suggest that they feel a rusting frame is normal or acceptable for a 7-year-old truck, to which he promptly disagreed. So which is it? Either a rusting frame on a 7-year-old truck, driven in central KY, is not acceptable, and you fix it. Or it is acceptable and I know moving forward what to expect when considering Toyota vehicles and will be sure to let everyone I know what they can expect too. Now I am stuck with a truck that is rusting from the inside out. The dealer said it was safe to drive for now, but for how long?

I can't sell it and get a fair value knowing the frame is rotten. The dealer won't take it back on a trade in either. So I am stuck with this great Toyota truck that is all but worthless and will at some point become unsafe. The worst part is that I chose the Tacoma and Toyota because of their reputation for producing automobiles that will run forever. So much for that I guess. Not sure what else can be done, but it's clear from this thread that there are several of us who are dealing with the same issue and it would be nice if they would take some action to preserve their reputation and our confidence in the brand. Until then, I'll never again purchase another Toyota and will advise everyone I know to do the same.

I was just notified by my local dealer that my 2002 Toyota Tacoma had a rusted frame with perforations and that it was not safe to drive. In addition, they stated I was ineligible to have the frame replaced because I never had a rustproof coating applied to the frame. Apparently, there was a Customer Support Program for 2001-2004 Toyota Tacoma trucks that expired in September 2011 where they would inspect the frame and replace it if it was rusted through or apply a rustproof coating if it passed inspection. A subsequent call to Toyota corporate (where I opened case **) informed me of the same thing.

While looking through my past repair paperwork, I noticed that I did have the vehicle inspected in November 2009 while the Customer Support Program was in place. The frame passed inspection but the dealer never put the rustproof coating on the vehicle. Unfortunately, I did not know of the Customer Support Program. I inquired about the frame recall, and the dealer’s response was that the coating had not been done. Therefore it was not eligible for the recall. They also stated the truck was on record in 2010 passing a frame inspection also.

Upon taking my truck in June 2013, the service department found a hole in the passenger side frame and stated that while they had gone as far as they could with Toyota, they have no way to pursue covering it under warranty. They then asked if I would like a quote on a new frame. I have compared my frame to those of older Toyotas, when I thought rust like this was normal, and was surprised when I found undercoatings entirely in tact (both vehicles in the same city). I am extremely unhappy with Toyota's handling of this situation and was very misled by the company being known for 'quality'.

In 2010, I purchased a 2002 Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck used from a local car dealer. The vehicle was purchased to have a safe vehicle for my son to commute to college 2 hrs a day. We were never told of any recalls or problems with the vehicle by the dealership and it was in very good condition and we paid over $12,000. My son drove the truck every day and had no problems.

Yesterday (6/6/13), we noticed the truck was sitting crooked and took it to the Toyota dealership here in Kingston and they told us the truck's frame is so rusted it is unsafe to drive. The dealership said there had been a recall on the frame that just expired in December of 2012. We had never been notified of any such recall. Yet we have just received a recall last week for the spare tire rust issue.

We contacted Toyota and was given a case number and told it would be reviewed and they would contact us. Today, we received a call from Toyota that there is no coverage through them to replace the frame. We now have a truck that we cannot drive and a loan to pay off. What would have happened had the frame rusted out while my son was commuting to college??!!

Tacoma resale value is a lie! We now have a great looking truck that is essentially worthless. The body is rust-free and even the muffler is original but the frame is shot. We love our 2005 Tacoma and expected to have it for another 7 years but the main support frame has rusted out from the inside of the box spring areas, inaccessible areas where the owner cannot apply rust preventatives.

Toyota has had an ongoing issue with Tacoma frames since the mid-90s but still keeps using the same flawed design. Their frame rust proofing consists of only a layer of paint, to the exterior of the frame, that wears off and then you have to apply oil to the frame to prevent rusting. However, you cannot apply oil to the interior of the box frame areas and this is where my frame has rusted through.

At this point, I have a truck that looks and runs great that can neither be traded in nor ethically sold to someone other than the junk yard. Of course it should be noted that Toyota warrants the body against rusting for 5 years but only warrants the frame for 3 years. Toyota's response is only that it's not under warranty or recall so it's not their problem.

What really angers me is that I have consistently had most of my services performed by the dealership that sold me the Tacoma. Not once did they mention about the frame rusting, even as they were performing recall actions on the 2001-2004s. Why doesn't Toyota inform the owners about this issue early on so they can be proactive? Better yet why doesn't Toyota apply the rust preventatives themselves? At this point I will never buy a Toyota product again and will try to stop anyone else I meet from buying one either.

My husband and I purchased our 2010 Toyota Tacoma in Jan. 2010. We paid cash $30,000. We bought it at David Maus, Sanford, Fla. We did our regular check-ups and oil changes relying on them through the year. We moved to Ohio in 2011. My husband passed away two months later leaving me this truck. I relied on this to be SAFE. Well, I drove the truck and put about 10,000 miles on it. It brought the mileage to around 35,000.

I started hearing funny noises coming from the rear. Not knowing much about a truck, I drove it another week and decided to make an appointment to the dealership, the closest one being 45 miles away - Toyota in Delaware, Ohio. I made it for a Saturday so I would not miss work. I brought it in; they took down info and asked what the problem was. I told them about the noise underneath the truck. My brother-in-law picked me up and took me to his house as I was instructed the dealership would call after they check it out.

An hour went by and the dealership called - the truck was ready. Great news! I was feeling relieved. I got there and they tell me they hear nothing. They would have to ride with me at another time to hear what I am hearing. So, I decided to drive and take it in with another appointment as it was not a short distance. 5,000 miles later on Jan 10, 2013, I broke down after making a right turn to get on the interstate. I did not know what happened; just panic struck as I was on my way to work. I called my brother cold, with snow on the ground and scared.

Something happened to the truck, I explained. "What happened?" he asked me if I had a service for towing, to call them and take it to a place in Bellefontaine, Ohio (7 miles away). I did. I took it to Muffler Brothers. A real nice young man called me when he found out what happened. He said, "This is probably under warranty. Your drive-shaft snapped in half (in other words the YOKE broke)." It would take the whole drive shaft to replace it. He gave me a price of labor and part which was $1558. I called my brother crying, "I don't have that kind of money." He loaned it to me.

I called Toyota back to tell them what was going on. Christine assigned me a case number and took my report. I told her the vehicle was being looked at by Muffler Brothers. She said, "Normally, we like to take care of the vehicle but in your circumstance here is what you need to do to get reimbursement from us - title, insurance card, copy of payment." I sent pictures of the broken drive-shaft (yoke) and waited 8-10 weeks for a response... not a word. I made a phone call to Toyota customer service and they tell me reimbursement is waiting on cause and remedy from Muffler Brothers. I got that, sent it to them and got a letter in the mail 2 weeks later declining me a reimbursement.

I am furious. I do not see how they can get away with not being liable in some way. I was not asking for loss of pay for my job, just to pay back for the cheap part that broke on my 3-year-old truck and if not paying for labor, at least the part. I would like to know if I can do anything to get them to pay for their mistake. Thanks!

I just traded in a 2005 Toyota Tundra for a 2013 Toyota Tacoma and am very dissatisfied with it. So far, Toyota is doing nothing about it. It is a V-6 extended cab with the towing package and steel wheels. When starting off, the truck has a very disturbing vibration that comes up through the steering wheel and you can also feel it in the floor boards. Toyota has told me that they know they have a problem and cannot figure out the solution. When I brought it back to the dealer, the service manager said they had three others in the lot that were brought back for the same problem. I am hearing that I can't go the Lemon Law route because they did not do any repairs. I am going to try it anyways as I have nothing to lose. If you tow anything, the vibration is 10 times worse and feels like the truck is going to vibrate across the road; it is that bad. I now regret trading in my Tundra as that was an excellent truck.

The pumpkin (rear axle) on my 2004 Toyota Tacoma rusted through the casing so that it was leaking fluid. Keep in mind that the truck was less than 8 years old. I was told by the dealer that this is somewhere around $3,000.00 to replace. The service manager and the salesman that sold the truck to me could not believe that this happened. Both said this should have never happened. After contacting Toyota and filing a complaint, I was notified that they would not do anything to fix this issue. Things to consider with this truck: (1) Toyota had to undercoat the truck in 2012 because of rust and replace frames if necessary.

    (2) Last month, 04/2013, Toyota recalled this model due to rust issues with the spare tire unit. When I took the truck in for the spare tire plate to be replaced, I was told it would take an hour. Two and a half hours they finished the job. The service person told me it took so long due to really bad rust issues.

Why is Toyota not standing behind the rear end issue when they know this model has rust issues this bad? I have talked to many mechanics and auto part stores. They all cannot believe that this rusted so early and cannot believe that Toyota has refused to fix this issue. I had to remove the protection plate on the gas tank because that also rusted through. The protection plate under the engine will also need to be replaced real soon. I paid over $40,000.00 8 years ago after price and interest. I find this not to be a good customer service decision by Toyota.

In June of 2010, I leased a Toyota Tacoma TRD from Sunrise Toyota Abbotsford, BC. I paid for extended warranty, aftermarket leather/heated seats and a bluetooth system for the stereo was thrown in on the deal. I picked up the truck and brought it home. I realized that the box was never cleaned, but figured it wasn't a big deal. The outside of the truck was perfectly cleaned. 4 days later, I returned to Sunrise so they could install the seats and the bluetooth system. This is when my issues with Toyota began. After returning to Sunrise, I discovered the following problems: 1) Scratches on 2 of the rear plastic cargo covers; 2) Scratches along the bottom of stereo plastics, crossing the entire dash where the stereo is mounted; 3) Floor mat on driver's side was black with grease stains; 4) Bluetooth mic was installed on the underside of dash (nobody could hear me speaking).

I immediately called the sales manager regarding these issues and was told I needed to return back to the dealer for them to look at it. I lived, at the time, 60km away. Returning to the dealer, the sales manager and the service manager were very upset and apologetic (however, the sales manager said he thought I had made the floor mat dirty in the 4 days I drove it). I was told that all would be fixed, however, parts needed are to be ordered and I would need to again drop the truck for a few days. A week later, I drove back to the dealer. I was giving a loaner car for the few days it would take to make repairs and as I am driving home down the highway with the loaner, I realized the vehicle is running on fumes (useless!).

The sales manager had made a statement to me regarding the problems and said, "Let's just start over. When you pick up the vehicle, we will pretend it is for the first time. I will have it detailed and a full tank of fuel for you to make this right." Upon returning, there was no manager on-site. I was handed my keys by the reception. The repairs had been made, however, there was no fuel put in; it was not washed; the bluetooth mic had been moved, but not re-glued to dash so it was hanging off the dash on a funny angle where it still remains (still in a useless spot and nobody can hear me), plus the glob of double sided tape from the old location was never removed. I was appalled at the poor, poor quality work. I vowed never to return to Sunrise.

I went home and wrote the sales manager an email describing what I had found, how I was disappointed that nothing I was promised was completed and the poor quality of work that his techs had giving. Shockingly, the sales manager never replied. Moving forward a few months, I developed a strange howling noise inside the cab. I went onto the Tacoma forums and found this is a known issue with the windshield, so I took it in to the Langley Toyota. They replaced it - no problems or questions asked. Over the following months, I have to take it back for these reasons: 1) Interior heated fan ticking (replaced and then replaced again for the same issue); 2) Driver's door panel had to be replaced because the inner rubber seal was folding down when the window went down; 3) The rear bumper rusted after the first winter (I live in Vancouver where it rarely snows and there is not a lot of salt on the road). This issue I was told by reception could be fixed by simply using some chrome polish. They would not replace the bumper. I demanded a new bumper, which eventually they did.

By this past fall, the windshield began to howl again and I took it back. Reception argued with me that they would not do this work under warranty again and that I needed to prove what was causing the noise? The work had already been done and she felt as though the windshield could not be the issue. I had recordings of the noise, examples of the same noise off the Tacoma forums and a TSB. After arguing with her, she finally said, "Fine, we will change the windshield." But again, parts would need to be ordered and I would be called when they were in. A few days later, I received another phone call saying parts were on backorder. Weeks later, I had heard nothing. I called back to see if parts were in and I got, "Yes, they have been sitting here for a long while. Didn't anybody call you?" I passed over 65,000km this past summer and I am no longer under warranty, which I was aware of. However, I did buy the extended warranty which I am told is useless for my latest issue.

Just before Christmas I discovered that my rear window is leaking. I called Langley and tried to book an appointment for them to look at it (I had looked at Tacoma forum and found that there were 2 known issues regarding window leaks, third brake light leak and the rear window seal leak). I was told by the girl that there was no point in them looking at it. I should go to a glass repair place and have the window fixed. I asked her why would I do that when possibly it is the brake light leaking and furthermore, would this not be a warranty repair. She finally agreed I could bring it in. I took the truck into Langley and left it there for 3.5 hours. When I returned, I was told that the issue would not be warranted and they could not diagnose the problem because I had a canopy on. I was told to go home, remove the canopy and book another appointment to bring it back. I was furious.

I left without saying a word. I brought the truck into my work and a co-worker, a vehicle technician, within a few minutes diagnosed that you could push the entire rear window out at the top (about 1). I called Speedy Auto Glass the following day. The rear window was removed and replaced within 3 hours (including sliding the canopy back out of the way). Speedy discovered that the rear window had 1 12 strip of glue on it and the rest of the window had been held in with screws and clips. They were shocked to find that the window was never installed properly at the factory; enough so that they took pictures of the entire process, which I forwarded to the service manager at Langley. On the 24th of December, I spoke to a service manager at Langley and asked him why previously the service tech refused to help me move the canopy back and diagnose the problem. Realizing that I was out of warranty, but the fact that the window was never installed properly from the manufacturer, why would it not be covered?

Never answering the question regarding the canopy, he told me that this matter was out of his hands and that he would forward an email on to the head office. I received a phone call telling me that Toyota was willing to refund me $176.00 of my $300.00 I paid to reinstall the window. My question is if they are admitting guilt by paying a portion, why are they not refunding me the full service fees? I'm unsure why I'm responsible for manufacturer's failures? I returned the truck to Toyota and handed over the keys. It's a lemon if I ever saw one. Toyota is one of the worst places to get any customer service.

But they stated that NY State wouldn't allow them to spray at that time. When I called in June 2012, they stated that NY State still was not allowing the spraying. Now, Jan. 2013, the truck didn't pass inspection because of perforated frame. Any Toyota dealer in these states - CT, DE, IL, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI, WV - will be happy to conduct this inspection and treatment at no charge until 10/31/10.” Why did the dealership not do the treatment when it was inspected, when it was listed in NY? Now, the dealer and Toyota tell me there is nothing they can do for me. Now, I have a piece of scrap metal in my yard I have to pay for till 11/14.

My 1996 Toyota Tacoma failed. It has a faulty frame. They cannot replace the frame nor is it worth spraying the undercarriage. My truck is unsafe to drive, and it has been for years. I have put a lot of time and money into this vehicle, and I need my truck for my job in landscaping. It will never pass inspection again. Hyannis Toyota offered me 150% blue book value of my truck. I signed the contract promising this. I was then told I would receive a follow-up call by CECH, Toyota USA.

Before receiving this call, I returned to Hyannis Toyota the next week to hand over my title and get the rental car I was promised. I talked with the sweet woman, who had helped me from the beginning of this process. She had a message from CECH literally moments before we arrived, so right in front of us she called back. Her face turned bright red, and her jaw dropped. I was then informed that I no longer qualify for this program. Again, my truck was deemed unsafe due to rust perforation. I missed the deadline, because the first owner of this vehicle bought the truck in 1995, just before the new year. I am out of the program by weeks. My truck failed and is a 1996.

By my calculations, I was in the time frame for the 15-year program, the last day being December 31, 2011. I am the third owner of this truck and had no idea when the first owner bought it. Now, the only thing they are offering me is $300.00 for parts. Maybe?! I love my truck but have always felt unsafe in it. I was responsible by taking my truck in. I don't want to put my self or others in danger. I have almost sold my truck many times unaware of the recall prior to 2009. My truck at that time passed the frame test, and I spent all day at Falmouth Toyota and $2000.00 instead of getting my truck off the road for safety reasons. I believe because I'm a woman and because they had more recalled trucks than they could handle at the time, they passed my truck.

I am left with nothing and no way to do my job. I would put the money I deserve into a new or used Toyota truck. Bottom line is I have been endangering myself and others for years unaware of the fact that my frame could have fallen out beneath me. More people than I can count with trucks in better shape than mine went to Hyannis Toyota, and under this recall program, they came home with a new truck or a check. I went to Falmouth Toyota, because it's closer, which was a mistake. I just want what I deserve. This slippery, sneaky paperwork is hurting me and others. I didn't even get a letter until 2009. At this point, I feel I deserve more than the original agreement. But really, I just want a truck.

They have me between a rock and a hard place, and frankly, I'm very angry, dissatisfied, and ashamed of Toyota for the way I have been treated. It shouldn't be so black and white, and I will still always have a Toyota. But if this doesn't get dealt with to my satisfaction, maybe not. There are lots of ways to reach the masses, and I know I'm not alone. This is not a threat, but I feel like I have a case and I'm not giving up. Thank you for your time.

I received a letter a few years back regarding the perforation of the vehicle's frame caused by rust corrosion. I brought my vehicle to the dealership and was told that my truck passed the inspection at that time. I just received another letter four years later for the same reason and once again I brought my truck to the dealership but this time I was told that my truck failed the inspection and because the truck is past the warranty enhancement period of 15 years, that there was nothing that they could do. All the service manager could say was "sorry". In my paperwork that I was given it says "frame is rusted through, we do not recommend driving this vehicle until repaired. Not safe to drive". I noticed when I brought the vehicle home, that when they inspected the vehicle they put a hole above the back tire.

So now I have this truck that I took care of for 16 years and I find out that they won't repair the truck or buy it back. I am very angry and disappointed at how Toyota handled this situation. I am a loyal customer and now I am stuck with a truck that can't be fixed or bought back and I can't sell.

I have a 2008 Tacoma. I bought it in February, 2008. The car produces very thick smoke. It blows out smoke like a fire extinguisher, all the way from home to Park & Ride, about 4 miles, even though it's warmed up for 10-20 minutes before take off each morning. I'm also an owner of a 2000 Sienna, 2000 Corolla, and used to have several other models. However, this 2008 Tacoma gives me very unusually thick smoke. I really believe this issue is from the manufacturer, because it happened since I bought it. At first I thought the car is too new to tell, and later I thought Toyota might recall for this matter. I am being patient for 4 years now. I'd like to know if anyone, who owns a Tacoma, has the same issue I have, or not? If so, what should I/we do next?

Dealer said there was surface rust but the warranty issue/recall did not apply in Alaska. I told them the car was originally purchased in Mass and driven in Maryland previously. Now the frame is literally rotted away and I have little choice but to possibly sue the dealer for denying a claim on a national recall issue. I just want to have it repaired not necessarily bought back, but that would be great too.

He stated that they had 7 trucks or vehicles that they had to spray for the frame. He didn't go into details about that. But the thing is the letter said to go before the 31st and I did and they told me they would not do it. So I called some places and am waiting for them to get back with me. Toyota is doing a great job with replacing frames or buying back customer vehicles. However, they have not addressed the issue of corrosion on their rear axle housings. Serious corrosion on the rear axle housings of Toyota Tacomas cause gear oil to leak out. This will lead to eventual failure, due to lack of lubrication. This will lead to a structural failure due to such thin metal with tiny pinholes from rust. This also causes an environmental concern with pollution of ground water from millions of rusty axle housings leaking drops of gear oil.

After almost three years of ownership, I have experienced overheating in the front brakes which required replacement as well as a complete fluid replacement before it is scheduled.

Also, for almost a year now, I have been experiencing some rear brake sticking and stopping issues; I recently replaced the rear brakes and still have the problem. Power Toyota in Buena Park insists that there is nothing wrong with my brakes, however, according to my research and my experience in driving this vehicle, the brakes are in need of redesign. So, as I pulled off the road the engine cut off. As I got out of the truck, I smelled some oil burning and there was some dripping from the engine somewhere.

At 104,000 miles, a Toyota dealership in Santa Fe, NM replaced the head gaskets again on recall. I did not experience any problem with the gaskets at that time, but I trusted Toyota and let them do it.

Within a couple years, I began losing coolant from the coolant reservoir. I did not know why until 2005 when the vehicle broke down with a miss-firing number 3 spark plug. I was informed by a Toyota service technician that the head gasket was leaking coolant into the number 3 cylinder. They said new head gaskets would cost $1,800 plus tax. I did not have the money to make this repair, and continued to drive the truck, replacing the number 3 plug whenever it quit firing.

Eventually, by May 2009, the gasket deteriorated further. Both number 3 and 5 spark plugs were being fouled by coolant. I paid out of pocket to have Gladstone Toyota replace the head gaskets with newly designed original manufacturer equipment head gaskets. I was assured by Gladstone Toyota's service department that this new gasket was designed to permanently solve the long standing problem.

After 23,000 miles, in July 2011, the fourth head gaskets that were installed in engine failed again. The coolant leaked into the same number 3 cylinder and fouled the spark plug. This was discovered by Power Toyota of Tempe, AZ.

My 2003 Toyota Tacoma with 70K miles, which I keep updated with maintenance, came to an abrupt end. On December 17, 2010 my son while driving home made a right hand turn and the vehicle started shaking violently. He immediately drove it home. It had the check oil light on. I checked the oil and found it clean and full. I turned the truck on and it shook violently and the check engine light came on as well. I parked the truck and on December 18th, 2010 I took the truck to the nearest automotive repair shop. They told me after putting the computer on it that the first cylinder is missing. They suggested a spark plug and wires change. They informed me that there were two different types of plugs on my 6 cylinder, 3 on one side and 3 on the other side.

By the way, did I mention my 2003 Tacoma only has 70K miles on it? After the plugs were changed, the truck ran rough still. They did a compression check and found the first cylinder was not firing. After paying $200 and some change, I then towed the truck to the nearest Toyota dealership. They said that they needed to diagnose the problem and would cost $95. After the diagnoses that I already knew what was wrong with it, they said I needed a new motor. I asked why and they said it could be due to a variety of reasons. I asked if this has ever happened before and they said no. They said they were having problems with 4 cylinders, but not 6 cylinders. If I wanted a rebuilt engine short block, I was looking at 5600 plus or another type of engine for 7600 plus or minus.

Then they said that Toyota of North America will not get involved until they find out what is wrong with it. I needed to authorize a tear down of the engine for $2500 first; then they could find out what the problem is. I recently had to authorize the tear down, because of Murphy's Law that says, "Anything that can go wrong will.” Well, after the tear down I was called and told that I threw a rod in the first cylinder. I asked how could that have happened. They said it was not, I repeat, not due to lack of lubrication, so the only thing they could come up with is excessive revving? I mean you say that driving is excessive? I haven't even got to 75K miles yet and I need a new motor? Are you kidding? I purchased Toyota's and Honda's because of their reliability and service records.

Now, I need a new motor through no fault of my own. In fact the service mechanic said there should have been a loud bang when it happened and neither my son nor myself heard anything like that. In fact, it happened and the check oil/engine lights came on. No warning, no nothing. So now this Toyota dealership is putting together an estimate of a new short block engine repair and sending it to Toyota of North America to see if they will help with the cost since it is a manufacture's defect. So now that I am into this engine deal for about $2900 plus or minus, I have to wait to see if Toyota will man up and stand behind their product.

Being a Toyota owner, Highlander and Tacoma, and owning Hondas as well, I have started to lose all faith in Toyota. Waiting to see what breaks next is not what wanted in a car or truck. The economic damage that has been caused by this so far has been $235 for the first diagnosis and new plugs an wires, $45 for towing, $95 for the second diagnosis and $2500 engine tear down, and I’m still waiting for next amount to come. Also, I insured a vehicle that is not being driven because it is sitting at the dealership waiting for a new engine.

Two days ago my "SRS" light came on. (It is a picture of a large red circle in front of someone sitting). I looked in the manual and it said, "Take to Toyota Dealer Immediately." That is all it said. I called Toyota of El Cajon, where I purchased my truck and asked what that light meant. I was told by their repair department that it had to do with my "traction control". I said that I think it looked more like an airbag issue and she said it was most certainly "traction control" and that it wasn't a big deal. I then looked up the warning light on the internet and it said that it was a faulty airbag warning. That does seem like a big deal.

I took the truck into Toyota of Hollywood and the real fun started. They charged me $99 just to hook up the computer to find out what the problem might be. Five hours later I called them, they were suppose to call me after three hours, to check in. I was told that "More extensive diagnostics were needed and they couldn't find the problem yet. "But they did let me know that I needed a $300 brake job. (I also requested that they do the free gas pedal replacement per the recall. Since my truck got a recall letter). I also mentioned that I could remove the ignition key while driving and that when I shut the truck down and removed the key, it sometimes continued to have power.

They said that I had "worn down the cylinders in the ignition and I would need to pay $800 to get that repaired. (Not covered by warranty). FYI, I had purchased the additional 6-year/100,000 warranty. I mentioned this to the mechanic and he said, "Yeah, I don't think that covers any of this."I asked if it would cover the "airbag warning light" issue. His response, "Probably not." I said that it had to be a "mechanical" problem and he said, "What makes you think it is a mechanical problem?" Because there is no way I could have done something to break an airbag by just driving. He paused and said, "Listen this truck has 80,000 miles on it. "So if you want to purchase a vehicle that falls apart at 80,000 miles and you don't want good customer service...then get a Toyota Tacoma.

So here I am, with a truck worth about 11 to 13 thousand dollars that looked straight and now I have a brand new frame with a crooked body. The bed doesn't even line up with the cab. This is how they treated me. I don't want a truck that has been taken down to the bare bones and put back together. I just barely got it back and the problem is starting to arise. They paid the dealer 13,000 dollars to swap it over and a rental for 6 weeks. You should have just given me the 13 grand and I wouldn't have a botched up crooked truck.

I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. My dad bought this truck brand new, and I was given it late in 2005. My family also owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, and we were contacted by Toyota regarding a recall due to frame rust. Both trucks were purchased in Pennsylvania and have significant amounts of rust; the 2000 Tacoma's spare tire is rusted to the frame and cannot be removed. In my 2004 the Locking Rear differential actuator has rusted leaving the locker inoperable. I called Pearson Toyota in Newport News, VA and scheduled an appointment for the recall. After arriving there, the Service Advisor Kevin F said he knew nothing of the recall but, they would still look at the truck. He came back shortly after and told me there wasn't any rust, but I had multiple leaks under the truck. Oddly enough I work in a garage and had looked at the truck the day before and saw no leaks. I then called Toyota because I felt they really didn't look at anything under my truck. The rep I spoke with from Toyota Corporate HQ said they would, "Never buy a truck back, it may have happened rarely but is not something we do.”

I then told her the letter I received from them said Toyota was doing a Buy-Back program for 1.5 times KBB Retail Value and she said, "It sounds like someone got in there and cut and pasted a fake letter.” I told her that I personally knew 2 people who had their trucks bought back, and she said she never heard something like that. She then suggested taking it back to Pearson Toyota to have it looked at again; I felt this was not the solution as they had no idea about the recall. I then asked if I could take it to another dealer and she said, "Sure you could definitely do that, you just have to pay around $45 for it.” At this point I was completely disgusted and got off the phone. I do like my truck, even though it has rusted quite a bit. But after I was talked to like a 5 year old child by Toyota, I will never again buy their product. I am so happy that they are having so many problems and recalls now; they seem to look at their customers as just another number and not a real person.

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, 4DR, 4WD and just discovered frame rust on the passenger side frame at the leaf spring attachment point. The rust has started layering which will lead to devastating results if it continues. Toyota should make good on these models, as it did on the 1995 through 2000.

The horn stopped working right after a year. I took it to the place of purchase. The technician checked the relay and told me that I'm not covered. I purchased my 2006 Tacoma in Orlando, Florida cash for $15,000.00. My car has basic feature, but I still miss my horn. I cannot warn anyone that I'm coming their way unless I stick my head out the window. This can cause major accident that's why I have to drive defensively.

I bought a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab Short bed V6 engine in November 2007. Now with all the complaints and recalls, I want to make sure I communicate my concerns as well. I noticed a couple of annoying problems, the first of which is with the AC/Heater fan. During cold days (temperature outside below 4 degrees Fahrenheit) when I turn the heater on, the fan makes a clicking noise that lasts for as long as the heater is on. The noise goes away every spring and comes back on winter. The second problem is with the brakes, since the car was new, the brakes make a squeaking noise when you are slowing down about to stop. I've had the truck for almost 4 years and this noise has always been there.

The technicians at Toyota, the inspection centers and the shops that change the oil, all say the brakes are in good shape and that it must be the material from which the brakes are made of. The brakes are original Toyota brakes. The third problem is with the spare tire. Two years ago I drove over a big nail that punctured my tire and I decided to put the replacement tire on and take care of the flat tire later on. However, I was not able to remove the spare tire from its compartment below the truck using their mechanism and following their instructions. A few months later I went to Pep Boys to ask them for support and after 3 hours in the shop they were not able to lower the spare tire either. This tire has never been used or lowered. The last and most concerning problem is the excessive rust in the truck chassis.

Two years after I bought the truck I noticed rust spots in the steel frame of the truck and today the rust is visible on many components under the hood. I clean my truck on a regular basis and the weather in my area is not humid so it is surprising how much rust the frame has for the age of the truck. No damage this far, but I would like to prevent any from ever happening.
