    Subaru Ascent extended warranty options

Subaru offers Added Security plans as its extended warranty option in the U.S. and Canada. While you can purchase an extended warranty for your Ascent through a third-party warranty provider as an alternative, Added Security plans are backed by Subaru of America, Inc. All Subaru models with active warranty coverage from Subaru of America qualify, except those used commercially or equipped with a snowplow.

Added Security guarantees that repairs will be made with only genuine new or remanufactured Subaru parts and installed by factory-trained Subaru technicians. This is true regardless of your vehicle’s mileage or age.

Plans are available for up to eight years or 120,000 miles, though some may extend to 10 years or 100,000 miles. Deductibles are available up to $100, with zero-deductible plans also an option. They are assessed on a per-visit basis, rather than a deductible for each required service or repair.

Subaru Ascent extended warranty coverage details

Added Security plans are available at two levels: Classic and Gold Plus. The Classic plan protects many of the vehicle’s essential components, while the Gold Plus plan offers more comprehensive coverage.

You can combine add-on services with either plan for sweeping coverage. This includes a maintenance plan and Subaru Equity Shield.

Subaru Classic vs. Gold Plus plans

    Classic plan

The Classic plan covers most of your vehicle’s major components, along with some wiring. This includes powertrain coverage, which protects your engine, transaxle and differential components.

In all, nearly 1,000 parts are covered under the Classic plan, including these items:

    • Steering
    • Brakes
    • Suspension
    • Electrical
    • Cooling and fuel systems
    • Air conditioning

Additionally, the Classic plan offers these benefits for greater protection on the road:

    • Towing allowance: In the event of a covered failure, Subaru will provide a reimbursement of up to $100 per mechanical breakdown.
    • Rental car reimbursement: If you need a rental car while your Ascent is in the shop for a covered repair, you can receive a $40 daily allowance, up to $200, with coverage for up to five days.
    • Roadside assistance: This includes reimbursement of up to $100 for services including locksmith service, fuel delivery and battery jumpstarts.

    Gold Plus plan

The Gold Plus plan includes everything that the Classic plan covers and more.

Similar to a bumper-to-bumper warranty, the Gold Plus plan protects almost everything on your vehicle. It adds coverage for electrical systems, such as EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, Blind-Spot Detection and STARLINK Safety and Security. In addition, it extends your powertrain coverage for up to 10 years, protecting your engine for longer.

Benefits also include trip interruption coverage. If you are more than 50 miles from home and your trip is halted by a covered repair, the plan offers a $500 allowance that you can use toward hotels and meals.

    Add-ons

You can opt to add a maintenance plan or the Subaru Equity Shield plan to your extended warranty through Subaru.

    Maintenance plan

You have several options for a Subaru maintenance plan:

    • Term-based: Two or three years with 24,000, 36,000 or 45,000 miles
    • Mileage intervals: 3,750 or 6,000 miles

This locks in the cost of scheduled maintenance at the time of purchase, so you don’t have to worry about inflation increasing prices for covered maintenance during your plan term.

    Subaru Equity Shield

Subaru Equity Shield offers additional coverage that you can purchase individually or bundled under the Subaru Equity Shield Optimum Vehicle Protection (OVP) plan. You may be able to add:

    • Tire and wheel protection
    • Windshield protection
    • Dent and ding protection
    • Key fob protection

Coverage can vary by state, so ask your dealership about local-specific information.

    Exclusions

As with other service contracts, your Ascent’s extended warranty has some coverage exclusions, such as the following:

    • Maintenance items
    • Glass
    • Brake pads
    • Windshield wiper blades
    • Hoses
    • Belts
    • Batteries

For a full listing of all exclusions, check your factory warranty guide or ask your Subaru retailer.

    Subaru Ascent extended warranty cost

Subaru Ascent extended warranty pricing relies heavily on the plan you choose (including whether you purchase an Added Security plan or a third-party plan), but Added Security plans range from $1,490 to $3,580 on average.

The exact cost you pay to protect your Ascent ultimately depends on several factors, including:

    • Plan term
    • Retailer
    • Plan selection
    • Add-ons
    • Deductible
    • Mileage

Your location can factor into how much you pay, even if you purchase an official Added Security plan through a Subaru dealership. For example, Sport Subaru South of Orlando estimates warranty costs for a typical Added Security plan to be between $1,200 and $3,000. Pennsylvania’s New Motors Subaru, on the other hand, advertises Added Security plans starting at $1,165.

Before purchasing a plan, compare quotes from multiple dealerships in your area, and for similar coverage from third-party auto warranty companies, to ensure you purchase the right coverage for your Subaru Ascent.

When to buy Subaru Added Security

You don’t have to buy Subaru Added Security when you purchase your Ascent, but you’ll need to do it before the factory warranty expires if you opt for this coverage.

Although Subarus are widely known for their dependability, your Ascent will likely require repair at some point. An Added Security plan can provide not only peace of mind, but also long-term savings when compared to parts and labor costs for potential repairs.

The average Subaru Ascent owner will pay $8,778 for maintenance and repairs during their first 10 years of owning the vehicle, according to CarEdge, with a roughly 25% chance of a major repair being needed during this time. Depending on what is needed, this can be a pricey venture: an engine compression test averages $376, while a front replacement brake rotor/disc costs $705.

Added Security plans are transferable if you sell your car. This increases your Ascent’s value and, in turn, the sale price. You can cancel coverage and request a prorated refund if you sell your car and the new owner doesn’t want the policy.

However, purchasing a Subaru Ascent extended warranty may not make sense if you don’t plan to own your vehicle for the long term.  Explore our guide on the pros and cons of an extended warranty as you weigh whether it might be worth the additional investment for you.
