About Ram

Ram Trucks broke off from Dodge to become its own brand in 2009. Now, it focuses exclusively on trucks and, despite its name, commercial vans. (In fact, it’s pretty much the dedicated truck brand of parent company Stellantis, which also owns Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati and other automakers.)

Pros
  • Focused on trucks and vans
  • Offers unique features, like the RamBox storage system
  • Off-road-focused models available
Cons
  • Average reputation for reliability
  • Average-length warranty coverage on new cars
  • Modest certified pre-owned warranties

Paint is bubbled from aluminum oxidation. Had a Chrysler certified local body shop look at it. He told me to call Chrysler because that should be covered. It's under the factory paint and it's corrosion. Well called Chrysler. They told me to call a local dealer. I did. The local dealer told me they do not get paid for this and cannot sublet it out anymore. The next dealer is 3 hours away? I called Chrysler again and they told me even though the body shop is certified they cannot do the warranty work? So I have to take it to a dealer who is 3 hours away? So you sell a product that if a dealer does not have a body shop you cannot warranty any defects? I think anyone who reads this and has any issues with corrosion under warranty just contact a lawyer. What a piece of sh** truck. 2022 Ram 1500 bright white. I have owned multiple Rams like an idiot and have a new Durango. They are getting junked after the lease is up. What a joke.

Bought a 2023 Ram 1500 in march of 2024 truck, had 22 km on it. Had it undercoated and master shield at 51,000 kms, rear bumper rusting around park sensors. Multiple dealers informed me that it is a manufactured defect and it should be covered under the 3/60 warranty. Well somewhere in between the dealership and FCA Canada, the information was falsified and the claim was denied. Falsifying this information is a criminal offense as it stands now, not the dealership or FCA Canada will honour the warranty claim and the only course of action would be to challenge it in a court of law!

If I could give this company a 0 star, I would...I love my 2019 Ram 1500 Big Horn, however my truck doesn't even have 56k miles on it and I have hardly driven it this year due to being away for the military a bunch of times and I have had to pay well over 2k in repairs. I'm gonna estimate the costs because I don't remember off the top of my head the exact amounts.

First I had a solenoid issue that cost me around 500-600 at the dealer. Then I had to bring it back to the dealer because somehow the fuel sensor went bad in my fuel tank. That was another 400-500. Then right before I deploy, my ABS system went bad causing my check engine light to come on.. this was another 500 to repair. I come back from deployment... Now all of a sudden my directional for air flow isn't responding and no AC at all. Bring it back to the dealership once again and now they tell me that somehow moisture has gotten into my computer system causing corrosion and needs to be replaced which with parts and labor is going to cost me over 1500.

I have no idea how the heck moisture got in there, it's not like I'm going mudding or driving through deep water or anything. I take extremely great care for my vehicles, some would say "baby it"... I call Chrysler directly about my issues this year with the truck and the first person said I was eligible for "Repair Cost Assistance Program." I call the dealership to inform them of this, then the dealership said I'm not eligible, I contact Chrysler back and then they say, I am eligible, then I'm not eligible because even though the truck is a 2019, it was sold in 2018 making it past the allotted time for the program and I'm going to have to pay out of pocket on this.

I highly recommend to never get a Chrysler product at all based on my experience with the company and the dealership with customer service lacking big time. Just because of these issues I'll most likely never get a Chrysler product again and highly recommend people to not purchase a Chrysler product.. Oh and the dealer name is Cortese that's located in Rochester, NY.

      Ram models

Ram’s model lineup largely consists of different truck offerings. (The Promaster van is its one non-truck option in 2024.)

Interestingly, Ram also sells two generations of its 1500-series trucks at the time of publishing. The Ram 1500 Classic utilizes an older design that’s more reminiscent of previous Ram truck models, while the Ram 1500 is the company’s true current-generation design.

      Ram warranty

New Ram vehicles come from the factory with:

That amount of bumper-to-bumper and powertrain coverage is standard for the industry — but it’s also the least you can find from a major manufacturer. We can’t necessarily knock Ram for offering what so many other automakers provide, but you can do better with some other marques.

Ram’s warranties look even worse compared to the competition if you’re buying certified pre-owned (CPO). CPO Rams come with:

      • 3 months or 3,000 miles of additional bumper-to-bumper coverage
      • 2 years or 40,000 miles of additional powertrain coverage

The best CPO warranties in the industry offer up to two years of bumper-to-bumper protection, so the three months of coverage you get from Ram is relatively little.

      Ram FAQ

      Are Rams reliable?

Rams tend to rank about average for reliability. J.D. Power put Ram at No. 17 out of 29 brands in its 2024 Vehicle Dependability Study, and Consumer Reports ranked it 15th out of 30 automakers in 2023.

We don’t have enough consumer reviews to make a judgment about Ram at the time of publishing, but we’ll update this article with insights from Ram owners when there’s enough data available.

      Are Rams expensive to maintain?

In 2019, RepairPal estimated that the yearly cost of Ram maintenance and repairs was $858. Updated for inflation in 2024, that’s $1,169 per year — well above the adjusted industry average of $888.

Is an extended warranty worth it on a Ram?

In our analysis of Ram extended warranties, we found that you could expect to spend between $700 and $1,000 per year of added coverage. (You might even be able to spend less if you shop around for a deal.) That’s close enough to the expected cost of Ram repairs that you might find an extended warranty worth the cost.
