Since purchasing my 2014 Silverado I've had at speeds of 73 mph plus a shake or shimmy in the whole vehicle. I can feel it in the steering wheel and in the driver's seat. I cannot tell if it's from the front end. With the initial test drive I could feel the shake but didn't think anything of it. The vehicle has been in the shop numerous times for the problem, with no cure. The dealership noticed a supposedly bent rim which I paid $200 to have fixed also But that didn't fix the problem.

I have a 2013 Silverado with 22K miles (under warranty). I drive down the interstate and the outside temp presents three hashes ( - - - ) and the compressor drops out. The environmental control unit is locked up. Neither temperature up/down will work nor can you increase/decrease blower fan speed. I showed Smicklas Chevrolet, Oklahoma City, pictures of the problem and they said they could not verify. I didn't download the pics off the internet. They did replace the environmental control unit. Within days, the problem came back. I took the truck directly to Smicklas Chevrolet where they could see the problem happening in front of their eyes. I dropped the car off. After a week in the shop, they said they couldn't duplicate the problem they were witness to and unwilling to try anything. If anyone has experienced this problem and has had it fixed, please report. At the rate I am going, my truck will be in the shop for the rest of the summer.

2012 Chevrolet Silverado - I am the second owner of this truck. I purchased it from the dealership and it was still under warranty. It had approximately 23,000 miles on it when I purchased it. It now has 27,000 -+ on it. I was driving down the interstate yesterday at 70 miles per hour and lost all power. Very scary. The truck is in the shop. I was on hold well over an hour with roadside assistance (GM) before they could help me with a tow truck. Wish I had known about the problems with the losing power before I purchased. I am now wondering if the person that traded the truck in had problems. I am going to try to track them down. Seems like these things should be disclosed. I have barely drove this truck since I purchased it nearly a year ago. I am going to watch for a recall and or class action. This is dangerous.

I have a 2003 Chevy SIlverado and this only has 17,000 original miles on it now. Five years ago, the emergency brake cable broke to the rear left wheel. Two years ago a brake line ruptured from rust, and last week another brake line ruptured. Upon pulling these lines out to replace them, 3 more just snapped off where the rust was heavy. This is unsafe, and totally avoidable. I had plenty of vehicles in my 47 years of driving and this is the ONLY vehicle where the brake lines rusted through, also a brake cable.

But 2 years ago, a Chevy dealer mechanic failed all my rotors claiming they had too many rust pits. It is better to put stainless steel in and charge more for the vehicle in the first place. I have a Dodge D-50 that is 35 years old and the brake lines are still good and gets driven on the same roads. There is no excuse for this kind of CRAP. This is the last GM vehicle I will ever buy. Now you see what cheap crap merchandise gets you, lost customers. I know enough about metallurgy that there is too much iron and not enough precious metals in the steel. This is why the excessive rust compared to vehicles coming from Japan and some other countries.

A few months ago my truck (2009 Chevy Silverado) wouldn't start. After jumping it twice it still wouldn't start. Called for a tow. Mechanic called to tell me he found the back of the fuse box located on the driver's side under the dash melted in two different spots where the wiring harness plugs onto the pins behind the fuse box. $1,800.00 to replace the fuse box, wiring harness and connectors. My truck's electrical system has never been modified in any way. I'm very lucky it didn't catch fire. Contacted GM. They took my information and I have had no response at all. This is a manufacturing defect. Apparently the government nor GM have any intention in addressing this problem. This is my third and last Silverado!

Purchased a 2014 Silverado on 3-27-2015, test drive was on back streets with speed limit of 20 mph. 2 days later I finally got the speed up to 40-50 mph. On the highway the truck vibrated horribly. Called the sales manager and reported problem. He stated he would have someone from service dept. call. It took several call backs before they finally contacted us. Had to wait for a loaner truck, had to wait for them to order a machine to do test before they could even test the truck to see what was wrong with it. In the meantime they wanted us to still drive the truck knowing that problems existed. Called Chevrolet customer service, did not get very far with this. I feel cheated and misled. I have seen many complaints on this problem. Chevy should recall these trucks.

I had a 01 Chevy 1500. It keep running hot. After I put about 600 pounds on the trailer behind it it squatted the truck which I thought was sick. If I wanted a el camino I would have went and got one. A truck is suppose to hold more weight than that so I took it and traded it in for a 02 dodge ram 2 wheel drive 4 door and that truck would out pull and haul that chevy any day.

Chevy uses a soft aluminum alloy in their metal which makes chevy the cheapest made trucks and way over price on the road. Chevy worries about making their engines with more horsepower. That's just one of their downfalls. What good is having all that horsepower and can't pull hardly anything of any kind of weight. You can't put a 500 pound 4wheeler in the bed without the wheels going up into the fenders. I just wish people would do their research before buying a chevy. Anything is better than a chevy, ford or dodge. Come to find out Chevy 350 is common to blow intake gaskets. That's something Chevy don't tell people. Chevy rust out way too quickly. The inside starts falling apart after about 80,000 miles so you people keep thinking that you got a truck because you don't. I hope this really helps.

Frame is rusting then coating will start peeling off. I only have 13000 miles on this 2013 Silverado and I take good care of it. Guess I will have to lay under it and do the job myself if it is to be done right.

Bought a new 2014 Silverado (demo with 3000 miles) in March 2015. On 5/23/15 while driving 55 mph on highway, the truck lost all power & just shut off. Were able to pull to side of road & call dealership where purchased. They sent a service employee with a booster box to jump off, but it was not the battery as we had already advised since all of the lights, radio, etc., inside the truck worked when key turned to auxiliary. So, had to be towed to dealership where the truck still remains. At 1st we were told one of the buses (computer chip) had gone out. But, when they replaced the chip, it blew the ECM. They ordered another ECM, same thing. They ordered a 2nd ECM, would not program. They ordered a 3rd ECM that was sent overnight from Michigan, it won't program either. Gets to 80% & everything shuts down.

The dealership has been helpful. They are providing a loaner truck and even cut us a check for our June payment. GM on the other hand not as helpful. I am still waiting for the return call from a GM rep that was told would occur within 48 business hours of my call to then at the beginning of the 2nd week our truck was at the dealership. The GM engineer was suppose to have been to the dealership last Thursday but did not show up until yesterday. They said there is a halt to ECM production across the country due to issues but that they were going to custom build one for our truck.

I do NOT feel confident in the ability of this issue being resolved, nor do I feel safe & confident that this will not occur again if they ever get it fixed. It is coming up on a month that out truck has been sitting at the dealership and I am more than a bit frustrated and have lost all confidence in GM period. (Especially since I am also experiencing issues with a few of the 2015 Silverado's and 10-15 of the 2015 Equinox's that my company just leased in May. With Fleet Manager as one of my many procurement responsibilities, it has been a nightmare the past couple of weeks for me at work dealing with the issues as well as my own truck!) All I know, is I want my truck fixed, back & guaranteed not to occur again and/or provide us with an extended warranty at no cost as long as we own the truck OR replace with a different truck altogether!

Limped home (2 miles) and the brake fluid just drained all over my driveway. Call the local Chevy dealer for a quote...$1800. Can you guess where I told them to go? I bought my 2001 Chevy Silverado 2500HD brand new in 2001. I still own it today. It now has approximately 155,000 miles on it. My first real complaint is that I've had to repair the power windows 8 times. Six times on the driver's side, and twice on the passenger side. My next real complaint is how quickly the rocker panels have rusted out, completely. And just last weekend, on May 2nd, 2015, I did a complete front brake job on it, only to discover badly rusted brake lines. In fact after installing the new brakes, (calipers, rotors, and ceramic pads), one of the brake lines ruptured in two places from being weakened by severe rust.

Now I have to replace all the brake lines on the truck from front to back. Plus, 3 years ago, my "ABS" & red "BRAKE" lights came on, and I was told I needed a new ABS control module, which would cost me around $1,300.00. My wife and I are on Social Security. We can't afford a $1,300.00 part for the truck. I also had to replace badly rusted transmission cooling lines about two months ago that were leaking from being rusted out. We can't afford to buy a new truck, so all we can do is try to repair the problems one by one as we go along.

I had a brake line blow on my 2002 Silverado Z71 while braking for a deer that ran in front of my truck. I was luckily driving down a straight stretch of road with no need to stop for a few miles. When I got to a safe place to pull over I had brake fluid dripping from the main brake line that supplies the rear wheels. My truck has 220000 miles on it so I just figured these things happen with old trucks but by the sounds of it I should replace all of my lines because it will most likely reoccur with the other lines as it is a very common issue with my truck's generation.

I was thinking about buying a newer Chevy but after reading the reviews I think I will just put a little money in mine and keep it going. I've had very few problems with my old truck and it has never left me stranded. Aside from the rocker rust and 4 WD problems it is still a solid truck that will probably last longer than the 2015's by the sound of it. Anymore it sounds like its an anomaly if an American made car makes it to 100k miles without any major work being done on it. Its really sad. I'm starting to think they are engineering cars to not last, the same way they engineer home appliances and other things to break after a few years so you have to buy new.

My husband bought a 2009 Chevy Silverado from a dealership brand new and of course the dealership is not there now so we have had all the repairs and oil changes done by Green Chevy. My husband was working out of town, and the truck wasn't holding oil pressure. So we had it towed back to our city to Green Chevy and they said it was the VLOM. I said fix the truck and of course that was going to cost 1275.00. The next day the red team service manager called and said that this parts was not the problem that we needed a new engine then he told me that would be 8500.00 for this engine 5.3 v8 engine vortex. So I emailed Chevy up in Detroit mad about their quality and how that their quality needed to be improved plus said other things in the email to get their attention.

They emailed me back immediately. I told them my concern and they listened and they did an investigation. I have been on the phone with them several times and they asked me what I wanted them to do. I said fix the problem with the engines that have issues with the oil pressure and I said I am not paying for the whole new engine. I would like for Chevy to pick up some of the cost. As it stands right now my bill is 2800.00 out the door which is better than 8500.00. Personally they need to recall the trucks for this issue and change out the oil pump. There is too many blogs and complaints about this on the internet.

Spent $50,000 to have the perfect truck only to have so many problems. Within the first month I lost all electrical. They replaced the body control. Then the sensors for parking constantly go off in the cold weather. They said they fixed that by resetting it. Next few days on again they said it was the snow. There is no snow in my garage and no snow on my bumpers. Then my heated seats stopped working. Picked up the truck the plastic covers were off and on the floor and not only were they not working then the heated steering wheel stopped working.

Took it back to the dealer said sorry for the covers and they were working fine. Called me at the end of the day said fixed one seat had to order parts for other seat and re-grounded the seat. So after a week I called back to see if they had the parts. They did but forgot to call me. The vibration in the truck is awful. Shakes all over the road when it kicks down to 4 cylinder. They said there is nothing they can do. The truck also started rusting within months. Can't imagine how bad that will be with the bad winter we had. I have always been a gm guy but really thinking it's time to change. I have had the truck 15 months and 26,000 miles as I go see my daughters in the military often. You can believe if Toyota had rusty brake lines. There would be hefty fines and forced recalls. The NHTSA is in the back pocket of American Auto Unions thus making GM untouchable. So you can bet I have bought my last car made by American Unions.

1998 Chevrolet Silverado - This is my 3rd Chevrolet truck. On the way home from the dealer it had a terrible vibration and I took it back the next day. The dealer Bob ** kept my truck for about a week and put 365 miles on it. The dealer told me they had to send it out to get it fixed. That was my warning sign, I should have ask for my old truck back and walked. I took it home vibration was better but just not right, they told me that was the best they could do. Next week my seat quit working, they put a new one in. Little later my wife was driving the truck and came home, told me the truck almost wrecked itself.

While going around a corner, the steering wheel took off in the direction of the turn and almost took her to the ditch. I did some research and had to disconnect the wire going to the back of the power steering pump. Not long after that I was pulling out of a store and hit the brakes, nothing. Seems the brake line that runs from the front of the truck to the rear axle has burst from RUST. I repaired it myself with a little help from the people at Auto Zone. Just last year, brake lights stopped working. I replaced the brake light switch, they worked for about a week, then stopped working again. I thought I must have got a bad switch, right so I go get a different one. I replaced it no help, still not working.

I removed the steering column and got up under the dash. The short pig tail wire that runs from the brake light switch to the main wiring harness had broker about 1 inch from where it connected to the main harness. I took it out and took it down to the dealer to show the parts guy. Keep in mind I paid over $ 20 grand for this truck, the parts guy laughed at me. Real funny right? I expected him to hand me a new pigtail harness. I took it home and soldered the wires myself and reinstalled the pigtail, now my brake lights work.

I can't imagine what the dealer would have charged to fix this problem. It took me a whole day to complete the job. Driving home in the rain not long ago, dash lights go out and no lights to the rear lights. I still have brake lights, but no running lights. I replace the headlight switch, not the problem. I did some more research and was told the wiring harness going from the front to the rear goes bad on these trucks. I spiced a wire going from the rear running lights to the fuse box. I hooked it up so whenever I am driving the running lights are on. Still have no dash lights, the radio lights went out 1 at a time right after I got the truck. I now have a buzzing noise when I turn on the headlights and after driving at night for a few minutes my headlights go out on their own and the daytime running lights come on.

I just leave the headlights off and use the running lights. For the dash lights I lay a small flash light in the tray in front of the speedometer so I can see it. If we would have known the GM was having union problems in 1997/1998 we all could have avoided GM all together. I have replaced so many parts on this truck, and looks like GM used cheaper parts to build these trucks. I now have a rusted rear bumper, chrome peeling off, and rust on the cab. I have bought my LAST GM vehicle, that new dodge looks pretty good.

I purchased a new 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. 4.3L V6, 4-spd automatic - yes, the cheap one, the basic truck. Never got more than 8.6 miles per gallon - Dealer said I couldn't calculate properly - I excelled in math, etc. Could not use cruise control - truck would speed up and slow down continuously. Set at 75 on interstate, tapped brake while a semi passed another, slowed to 55, tapped resume while on an upward grade, on cruise the truck gunned it to 95, slowed to 60, back to 80 or so, down to 65, just above 75, then finally 75. Couldn't even use it on flat highway. If road was wet at all, the front wheels would chatter, lockup, and slide when I applied the brakes. Windows iced up on inside during the winter. If I slowed down without coming to a complete stop, such as when someone was turning ahead or I was turning after oncoming car passed, and then accelerated, the truck would hesitate before going... It would rev up and not go, as if it were in neutral... Then it would slam/bang/jerk and take off again.

Other than the obvious drivetrain problem, it would hesitate so bad that it was dangerous, could get stuck in an intersection too long. A couple of times people would go around because it hesitated so long before going forward again. People probably thought the truck died on me. Truck would jump backward when I started the engine. The dealer and manual state that you should be in the truck, seat belt on, and foot applied on the brake. So that is their response. I wasn't following instructions. After work (maintenance) on a cold night, I would go to the truck, open the door, reach in and start it to warm up while I covered the seat and changed or took off my outer shirt or jacket. Sometimes the truck would start fine. Sometimes, it would "slam" like you started the engine and immediately slammed it into reverse. The truck would jerk backward. Sometimes, it would be an inch or two. At least two times, there was least 8 inches.

One time the open door bumped into my shoulder. The worst time it did this, it jumped back so far that it hit me in the shoulder & arm and knocked me to the ground. I could duplicate this about 1 out of 5 times -- only when the truck was cold. There were many complaints and reports of this problem, something about the fluid in the torque converter. Sometimes, very rarely, the truck wouldn't start. It didn't try to start, it was like I didn't even turn the key all the way. I missed two days of work because of this piece of junk, which it turn cost me some personal days (if we miss, we lose "earned" personal days). So, that was four days of pay lost.

I had this truck for 22 months and finally traded it for a new 2013 F150. I'm not in a Ford/Chevy fight. I know my Silverado was a lemon. I took it to the selling dealer 17 times, I took it to three other dealers a total of 5 times. Even though you are supposed to be able to take it to any dealer, the other dealers weren't helpful and suggested I take it to where I purchased it. Of all the problems, only the icing up on the inside was fixed. Nothing else was ever fixed. That was something in the defrost system being reset, updated, or reprogrammed - I couldn't get a straight answer. The dealers kept saying that they couldn't do anything unless GM published a technical bulletin.

For the horrible gas mileage, I was told by a tech and service manager that the engine was undersized for the truck. So, I'm responsible for the design and GM isn't? For those 22 months, I drove loaner vehicles more than my own truck. For my own truck, I had 7700 miles on it when I traded it off. Started with about the fourth or fifth loaner, I started recording the mileage... a total of 18,600 miles not counting the first few loaners.

This is the third gm truck I have owned. I have not had any issues with it or my Tahoe, but then again I do periodically maintain my trucks. It sounds as if many just get in and drive and never look over their vehicle. I live where we dump lots of salt on the highway for 6 months out of the year, never had a brake issue, sounds to me like too many guys are just not maintaining their trucks. Every truck rusts, and as for those paying over 500 dollars to have your lines replaced, you got ripped off. I would suggest getting a new mechanic, and for the guy who slammed it in park on his transmission, that is your fault. If your brakes fail, slight pressure on emergency brake will slow you down and move the selector down shift as your vehicle slows down. You people need to stop panicking when it happens, a very happy gm owner....

On December 27th, 2014, there was a complete brake failure while trying to stop at a stop sign. This happened on a 2003 Chevy Silverado 4 wheel drive truck. Fortunately, there were no cars or vehicles at the stop sign in front of me. There was no cross traffic either. The truck went through the intersection. There was no brake pressure and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.

At the shop, it was noted there was a complete brake line failure of all 6 rear brake lines at the ABS module. This is located near the driver side door. All the brake lines had severe corrosion and failed. The shop noted this was a common defect with the Chevy Silverado. I had the brake lines replaced at considerable cost. Fortunately there was no accident in this incident.

The brakes were shot completely shot, the rotors were completely scratched to the point of being dangerous on the road, the A/C stopped working, and the exhaust pipe completely fell off! So my husband called them 1 week after buying the truck and told the salesperson about all of that and the salesperson said he would have the owner (who we dealt with on the day we bought it) call us back. It's been over a month and no phone call from him! But that's not even the worst part 2 days after our 1st payment, the truck would not go into gear and I had to leave work to help my wife get home!!! Lost hours and money at work! I found out that the reason the truck would not shift was that the transmission went out and the transfer case chain had been welded together! We now have a $10,000 yard ornament and we still have to make payments on a truck we can't use!!! Don't EVER buy a vehicle from them! OUR 2002 CHEVY WAS IN BETTER SHAPE THAN THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE!

I stepped on the emergency brake and started swerving then threw the transmission into park and slid across the road. There was a tractor trailer heading right for my side of my Silverado Pick up but luckily he swerved into the oncoming lane and no one was coming. I most likely would have been killed by the truck who would have tee boned me. I was able to move the truck to the side of the road to get it out of the intersection, Again I had to use the transmission to stop. I found a garage near by, was towed there, and they spliced my brake lines together to get me home. The lines blew in 4 places. When I got home I took a look at the rest of the lines, they were rotted everywhere even in the engine compartment. I had to get the lines replaced entirely.

The mechanic informed he has done a lot of GM trucks due to the same reason, a cheap metal that is not coated. All together I ate a $ 2500.00 Bill. The other night I took the truck out since I don't use it much and lost my transmission now. I am sure it is due to the brake failure and the action I had to take to prevent from being killed. GM says you get a warning on your dashboard and have the other line to stop. BS!...I now have to find another $3000.00 to replace a transmission. How can they get away with this? If anyone knows of a class action suit against GM, please forward me the information. All GM Truck owners, please be careful, and monitor your brake lines. Brake lines don't rot like these do, even if you live in a salt box. GM, I pray no one else gets killed by your bad decisions, cause it is going to cost you a lot more in the end. Before I purchased I read several reports of driveline vibration. Dismissed them and bought a 2014 Sierra work truck V6. On the hwy at about 45-55 it vibrated, quite noticeable. Did some homework, it is the cylinder deactivation. When you have a V6 it has 3 power strokes per engine revolution. I assume they are equally spaced at 120 deg. Well, remove one and you get a torsional vibration. It gets better at higher speeds. Anyway, there's nothing "wrong" with your truck, it's the design. I bought a Range device for it. It was 169 shipped. It plugs into the diagnostic plug by your left knee and turns off the cylinder deactivation. Vibration gone, mileage went down by maybe 1 mpg. Can be removed and it goes back to factory. Supposed to not alter your programming at all, just defeats the cylinder deactivation when it's plugged in. So far mine works with no lights coming on or anything. These dealers who are replacing drive shafts and axles either don't know what they're doing, or bilking GM for warranty work. Try the Range, it works!

I ordered a brand new 15 Chevy 3500 crew cab long bed SRW clear over in the state of Michigan, due to the fact that trucks are ridiculously priced here in the oil patch. I saved almost $12k! Had a great experience with the dealer there, Myers Chevrolet, and was stoked to get my first brand new truck. I ordered all the bells and whistles, except the sunroof, don't really need that up here in the sub arctic of ND.

My truck was delivered late this summer, and has only 3600 miles on it. The driver's side window motor is bad, can roll it down, but won't roll back up. And I hate the fact that the tranny cooler is completely exposed in the front bumper. Here in western ND we ranch, and I work in the oil field, everything is gravel roads that are NASTY! This truck will not hold up I fear, and I have driven Chevy's my whole life, as well as my whole family has.

It irks the hell out of me that a truck that has a $68K price tag on it can't even make it a month before something is wrong with it, and I have to wait at least a month to get it into the dealer for warranty work. And all 3 Chevy dealers in this country, don't want to deal with anything related to warranty work, especially if you didn't buy the truck from them. I am a local, not some road tramp following the next oil patch job from state to state, I have lived here my whole life. GM should really look at how they are handling their relationships with their dealers, and how those dealers are dealing with their customers in regards to warranty and recall issues.

Which brings me to another problem. ALL of our work trucks that the company I work for are CHEVY. Nothing but problems with them, they are all 08-15 2500 HDs. Fuel pumps, ball joints, tranny linkages, axel seals, wheel bearings, upper radiator hoses, vibrations, brake problems, stabilitrak, traction control, you name it, it has been an issue. And we got the notice for the recall on all our power steering pump clamps, the dealer in Sidney MT said it's no big deal. Well it sure as heck is!!! We basically have a giant metropolitan amount of traffic on small two lane gravel or paved roads, I sure as heck want to make sure if I turn my wheel, that truck tracks correctly, or I'll probably be a grease spot on the hood of a crude truck or water truck up here.

GM definitely needs to cut the BS, and take a full honest stand on the problems that they are having and take care of them, but then again, that isn't how things are run in America anymore. Too much passing the buck, and dodging the questions, and getting nothing but lip service. I definitely will never buy another GM vehicle again, and I am weekly trying to convince someone in our corporate office to make the switch to another vehicle manufacturer.

Bought 2014 1500 new, after 6 months and only 4000 miles, the air condition recirculating button/function would shut off and barely blow air even though knob was on high. Brought in to Findlay Chevy in Las Vegas. Said nothing was wrong with it, only needed update on program. Well now 10% of outside air is now coming in, even though we have it on recirculating function. Chevy said this is the way "they" want it and too bad if you feel like you're going to pass out from the carbon monoxide poisoning from vehicles pulling a load up a steep hill (which I drive daily). They won't change it back and say this is how it is, take it or leave it. My truck never did this before the new program was installed. If they want it this way, they can pay the $40,000 price tag. And I bought my truck in AMERICA. I don't want to talk to anyone in the Philippines - what an insult to me.

The first time this happened was actually at the dealership. They had just completed the recall for transfer case shifting from drive to neutral on its own. I came back a couple hours later to get an estimate for hail damage that took place the week prior. I pulled up to the bay door that had a slight incline, put the vehicle in park, took my foot off the brake and I was rolling backwards. Most people's first instinct is to look at the shift indicator to see if it was in park. It was. I shifted from park to drive, then back to park. The truck was rolling backwards. The third time I shifted back to park the parking pawl engaged.

I notified the service people and a tech played with it for a few minutes, shrugged his shoulders, looked at me like a was a liar and said, "I can't get it to replicate." 2 days later the vehicle did it again. This time it hit a fence post and damaged the fender. If anyone else has this problem please post it... because GM is trying to bury it and pass the buck. This is very dangerous and I'm afraid it will take someone being killed to get their attention.

I was very pleased with my purchase until a week ago. I brought the truck to another dealer (owned by the same people) in for the ignition recall and while it was at the dealer, they told me the truck had a rust recall and they would take care of it. No big deal I thought, just a little problem. I get the truck back and I start to research the rust problem a little bit.

Find a video on YouTube showing a BRAND NEW truck on the lot covered with rust spots. Went and looked at the same spot as in the video on my truck and sure enough, I seen were the dealership spray painted my frame. Not happy with this at all, I got under the truck to see what else I could find and that topped the cake for me. My rear axle housing was covered in rust, and there were spots of rust all over the frame. I went to the dealer I bought the truck from and told them about the problem. The solution was to clean and paint the rust spots. I told them the dealer in Tifton already done that supposedly and asked them what they were going to do about the rust spots they could not see.

My salesman and the service manager were not much help so I confronted the sales manager about my problem and he said "You will not have a problem with the life of the truck". I was not happy with this answer. I told him "I paid a lot of money for this truck and I do not want it rusting like it is 20 years old". I live in South GA where there is no snow or salt water, so this truck needs to be rust free. This was on 6/28/14, he told me that he will contact GM and see what are options are, so waiting to hear back. I hope they make it right. The truck has 2600 miles on it and looks worse than my dad's 05 F150 FX4. Guess I should have gotten a Ford.

The worse is yet to come. I pulled into a shopping center to park, found a spot and pulled in, applied my brakes, guess what, no brakes, same flattering sound and same sound on my brake pedal. This time I could not stop, I hit a concrete light pole, in which demolished my front bumper and also damage to the hood.

Also again at a shopping center to park, somehow the passenger door unlocked and the right rear door opened, which I applied my brakes the truck would not stop, the rear door that was open, smashed into a parked tow truck and almost ripped the door off its hinges. This would be my third set of rear brakes. Before I left the dealership, they told me they were experiencing a pulsation/vibration in my rear wheels. I never experienced this before I brought it in their shop, but as I left the dealership it was quite noticeable. Over the next month, the problem got worse and Les Schwab replaced the rear drums three times (they said they got bad drums from their supplier) and did a complete brake job front and back.

Again, as I started to leave their shop the last time, they said they still felt the pulsation and vibration in the rear when applying the brakes. They said to drive it and see if it corrects itself - it hasn't. Two thousand miles later, driving the truck is almost unbearable. It shakes and pulsates terribly every time I apply the brakes. It goes back to Les Schwab 6/21/2014 to see if they can repair it one more time. The truck has a 100K Chevy warranty and is still under warranty. The crazy thing about this is that when I took it in to Les Schwab the first time, it was for a brake squeaking noise, not for shaking or pulsation in the rear wheels. Now, there's no more squeaking noise, but lots of other problems as noted.

It happened so quickly that I had no choice but to go through the stop sign turning as fast as I could to avoid going into the woods.

As soon as I researched the problem, I found that an extreme amount of Silverado owners have experienced the same situation. It is extremely disappointing that GM says that this is not a safety hazard even though they know it's going on. If losing your brakes at speed is not dangerous then I don't know what is. Unfortunately just like majority of the GM recalls, they will come after someone gets seriously hurt or killed because of the problem before they step up. You would think that after the whole ignition recall they would try to show good faith and save face. Hopefully they will step up to the plate before someone gets hurt or killed.

So glad we had our mechanic put the truck on the lift or something drastic could have happened if we went out on the road. I pressed on the brakes and the pedal was very soft and did not slow down the car much at all. I began to pump the brakes and the pedal went all the way to the floor despite rapid pumping of the brake pedal. At that point I jammed on the parking brake with my left foot which slowed the vehicle down somewhat but not enough to prevent me from going through a highway intersection at about 15 mph and clipping a car that was crossing through. This is the closest I have ever come to death.

The back left brake line had severe corrosion and had broken and was leaking brake fluid profusely at that point. There was no warning, no warning light, no indication at all that there was a problem with the system until I went to press on the brakes.

This weekend I began searching forums and realize there is a massive problem with 1999 to 2007 Chevy Silverado's brake systems and brake lines rusting and corroding through. This is a very serious problem. Based on what happened to me I think there has to be fatalities related to this problem. General Motors claims there are redundant systems and brake warning lights, but none of that worked in my situation this weekend, and there were no warnings that indicated there was imminent brake failure or a problem of any kind.

I would not recommend buying a Chevy Silverado based on this incredible safety failure on the part of that company and I feel grateful to simply be alive right now.

A few days back I was driving my GMC Sierra Denali pickup with my girlfriend in the passenger seat when the brake pedal went straight to the floor with no warning. The vehicle having a non-functioning E-Brake left me no reasonable way to stop the vehicle. The roads ahead of us were unfortunately all downhill and we had no brakes! I shifted the truck down to 1st gear and navigated down the roads turning left and right to avoid hitting obstacles in front of us, all the while the vehicle was picking up speed. I eventually came to the bottom of the hill where the road came to a dead end with a lake just beyond a very thick chain pulled between two posts, leaving me the option to either hitting the trees on either side or hitting the chain which I expected would tear apart the whole vehicle and possibly injure us.

I told my panicking and terrified g/f to sit all the way back in her seat and brace herself. We hit the chain and to my surprise it either broke or came detached from the post with little impact. With sustained momentum and a lake now in front of us, I cut the wheel pushing the vehicle into a skid to bring the vehicle to stop. The brake system offered no brake pressure at all upon failure. This was an extremely terrifying experience. I'm very grateful that we were not injured.

I also think it is nothing more than a fact that IF G.M.C. DOES NOT RECALL THIS PRODUCT, IT IS ABSOLUTELY OBVIOUS THAT THIS COMPANY HAS NO CONCERN WHATSOEVER ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND VALUES THEIR FINANCIAL INTEREST FIRST. ONE LIFE IS MORE VALUABLE THAN ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY. It is nothing short of embarrassing and evil that G.M.C. thus far has not taken responsibility for their mistake. GM HAS PUBLICLY STATED THAT "THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE." I ask what could be any more unsafe in a vehicle than losing your brakes at 70 MPH on highway? Maybe losing them at 80?? IT'S TIME FOR A RECALL! ON BEHALF OF THE MANY CUSTOMERS WHO ARE CURRENTLY DRIVING THESE UNSAFE VEHICLES PLEASE!!!

I've put 36,000 miles on it during that time, and have never had to do more than change the oil and filters. I finally replaced the battery after 5 years though it still worked, and had the fuel injector cleaning service done. I did have the air bag module go, but that was my fault for not pursuing the recall they put out for it in a timely manner. Other than that, it is a brand new truck after 5 years, running completely perfectly. It is astonishing to me, as someone who paid so little for a new vehicle, to have the kind of power and performance, and now it will be paid off in a couple of months.

I could not be happier with it, and I know based on its current performance that it is barely broken in. I can't get the engine above 2,000 rpm unless I'm speeding to get on the highway, and it never sounds like it's working, yet it is the most powerful vehicle I've driven. I have the smallest motor you can get, the 4.3 Liter V-6, which is very fuel efficient for a full size truck (about 20 mpg real world). I also have a 32-gallon tank, so I can time the gas prices for the best savings. I would recommend Chevy to a friend, and have in fact successfully gotten several friends to buy Chevys. After them trying to fix it at a dealer in Tucson and Houston Chevy told me this is normal. I hate to drive this truck and you will too if you get a bad one. Google Chevy bad transmission before you buy. I wish I did. If Chevy cared I think they can fix it.

My truck started to leak gas. My mechanic said the fuel line rusted and needs to be replaced. He is having difficulty snaking the new line through the truck body. He said it appears the fuel line was installed before the body and was not meant to be replaced. Two years ago, I had to replace the brake lines because they rusted too. In researching on the internet, I find that I am not the only one with this problem and that it may be a faulty design.

I am the original owner of this 2003 1500 4x4 Ext Cab, always had it maintained on schedule and washed including undercarriage. Upon leaving my house in truck yesterday, 12/14/2014, fortunately while still in my subdivision, I experienced TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. There was absolutely no warning, the pedal simply went all the way to the floor and the Service Brake indicator came on at that time. The ONLY thing that stopped the truck was a snow bank. Using the parking brake I was able to get it back into my driveway. Brake fluid was everywhere underneath.

I called AAA and had the truck towed to AAA Care Care center. The source of the brake line leak was hole due to a rusted line. The cost to repair the line from LF wheel to the ABS pump was $415. I was also advised that ALL the brake lines were rusted and could fail at any time. Yes we get snow here some years and chemicals are used but Virginia isn't really in the snow belt but even if it was and even if I never washed the undercarriage (which I did, religiously) brake lines are what I would consider a safety feature that should be somewhat protected from rust or use rust resistant material.

While searching the internet there seems to be an issue with brake lines corroding on 99-03 GM trucks. I am truly baffled as to why GM recalled my truck once because of possible tailgate cable failure but something that could really get someone killed like brake line failure GM and our government has ignored this issue - is it because it would cost GM thousands per vehicle to make these vehicles safe.

2003 Silverado brake lines - Brake pedal went to the floor when a car backed out of a parking space in front of me. A brake line ruptured on front brake system and I reacted quick with a lot of pressure. My vehicle stopped within inches of car in front of me on rear brakes. Pedal hit the floor and had hardly any stopping power. 58,000 miles on the Silverado. Chevy wanted 2000 bucks to fix it. I remembered I had GMAC extended warranty. These creeps would only pay for the one line that leaked but the mechanic at the dealer said they all needed to be replaced. I guess GMAC wanted 8 or 9 more chances to kill me.

To top this, GM doesn't sell replacement parts to fix and use generic lines and splice them together. I bought a Stainless Steel kit from a company that knows all about the sub-standard steel brake lines used on these vehicles and sell lots. I always loved Chevy but they let me down on this truck.. I babied this pickup truck and is garaged.. Never drove in snow. I bought this truck to trailer my boat and car trailer. I drive my 1998 Suburban with 238,000 miles on it in the snow with original Steel Brake Lines! Also have a 1976 Nova SS 4 Speed I bought new with original Steel Brake Lines.

I think these trucks were in a flood at factory lot. Rusty under carriage, rusty back bumper, looks like a water mark on muffler, dust shields on rear disk brakes rusty. All my vehicles were driven in same area. Only the Silverado has this problem, the one with the least mileage. Rust belt crap! I'll remember that on next purchase from Toyota

I own an equestrian center and trailer horses with my 2004 Silverado 3500 regularly. My brakes when new were fantastic. As I was driving one day this winter (2013-2014) my brakes became very soft and would go to the floor if pressed hard. I was more than a little concerned as this truck hauls some very expensive horses and is quite heavy loaded. It was determined at the dealer that my front brake lines were corroded and would need to be replaced. I had the work done at the dealer for the cost of $1400.00 for just the front lines. This is ridiculous.

Chevy as per my research has a major problem with this happening and is wiling to do nothing about it. If these brakes had failed while hauling the results would have been disastrous. Surely there would have been death and/or injury to myself or the horses. There is obviously a problem with the cheap grade of steel lines used on these and other vehicles. Obviously maintaining profits and shareholder returns far outweighs the safety and well being of the customers who buy and use their products. It will be a criminal act in my eyes if people need to die or become injured before GM addresses this concern. I am very happy with my truck other than this issue. If GM steps up to the plate and accepts responsibility they will have maintained many customers which ultimately will be lost if they do not.

Both front calipers started on fire a couple months apart in 2011, no recall. Now rusted brake lines, back line burst while pulling into driveway, thank god not on highway. As I pulled into my driveway the low fluid light came on but I was home with no other trouble. Checked, found the fluid level was low so filled the master cylinder. Light went out. Ok, low fluid problem but I then noticed a puddle under the truck where the cab and bed meet. Called my service person and he stated that I probably had a ruptured brake line as he has seen and repaired several trucks with the same problem. He stated that the Chevy pickups from 1999 through 2009 have this problem with rust on these lines. Since then I have done considerable research on the internet and have found this to be the case.

In contacting GM by phone, online and in person, all I've gotten is it can be repaired but you'll get no help from GM. There is an indication that those person that have gone to a public consumer for help have been able to get the repairs done at a much lower cost than what I've been quoted which I asked about and was told that didn't happen. Basically been getting the runaround. I feel that this problem is a public safety issue as if you're driving a vehicle which all of sudden blows a brake or any other of these rusted lines there could be a major accident causing damage or even death. I purchased a 2012 Chevy Silverado in July 2012 (new). At 3000 miles, the transmission went out and the trouble started. Many other major repairs were to follow. I went through the lemon law process with the state. During the arbitration hearing, the Rep from GM along with a mechanic and the state rep test drove the truck. Although, we continued to have transmission issues among other things. The day of the test drive, the transmission was great, no noise, no slipping (of course). However, one of the other issues was electrical shortage where anything that had lights would shut down, just black out. They witnessed this while test driving, the Attorney General rep, the Mechanic, as well as the GM rep. They all acknowledged that this was a major safety issue. The decision was made to allow GM to repair the vehicle instead of repurchase or replace it.

The GM rep spoke to me after the meeting and said that as soon as the decision has finalized and in the system, he would take care of the repairs and if not satisfied, he would work with me and get me in to another truck. This was 3 months ago. I have had no returned phone calls and no contact whatsoever from GM or the rep. This past Saturday night, my husband was driving home from an event we attended and this black out happened while he was making a turn. He looked down and went to wide on the turn and resulted in a roll over crash. GM has been recontacted by myself as well as the Attorney General's office and has yet to contact me still. One day I stepped on the brakes and had NONE. Luckily it was in the driveway and no one was hurt. Turned out it was a rusted brake line in the line that crosses under the engine support cradle and then goes to the right front wheel. The way it is routed, it is in a groove in the support that allows it to collect sand and water and it always stays wet. After replacing it, I had trouble bleeding the brakes. Turns out the Anti-lock brake actuator on the 96 trucks can't be bled without some sort of special tool that even the dealer doesn't have! The only other solution turned out to be a pressure bleeder tool that they use on airplanes! You have to force brake fluid backward into the brake bleed screw up into the reservoir from all the bleed screws in the truck. This is a pain! Then of course the rear brake lines rotted through about a year after, and had to be replaced and re-bled using that special pressure bleeder. Then the rear brake adjusters quit working and had to be replaced along with the rear brake cylinders and brake shoes.

GM makes bad cars designed to fail. I will never buy another one, EVER! This truck has been an abomination. The rear end ring and pinion wore out from being installed incorrectly at the factory. The engine fuel pump relay failed. The fuel pump in the gas tank failed. The gas tank support straps broke when they were removed. The Camshaft bearings are badly worn and it won't hold oil pressure at idle. The oil pump had to be replaced with a high volume one to get any oil pressure at idle. The timing chain had to be replaced because it was loose. The engine has a large amount of noisy piston slap especially when the engine is cold. GM made the pistons fit loosely to make sure they would wear out prematurely. The transmission failed around 99K miles and had to have a complete rebuild. The front brake calipers froze up and had to both be replaced. The brake pedal has been soft end goes down too far all the time.

The rear side windows on the stretch cab have leaked since I bought the truck because they don't close properly, and it has caused the body and rear door of the stretch cab to rot out. The dashboard broke loose due to the cheap plastic attachment points on the plastic dash. The spare tire cross brace mount rotted off, along with all the pickup bed cross supports. The rear bumper rotted off and had to be replaced due to no plating on the inside of it. I almost got killed when the rear bumper trailer hitch failed due to the poor corrosion proofing and weak design. The tailgate release mechanism has had to be fixed several times due to the cross rods bending so it won't release. The paint is coming off all over.

I fear for my life every time I have to drive the thing. The front axle 4-wheel drive actuator failed and when it was replaced, it has never worked right and bangs hard whenever you try to actuate it following the directions. All 4 tires are the same and it bangs or grinds when engaging the shift on the fly electric shift, which it it is not supposed to do. I always have to completely stop, and shift into neutral to make it shift without banging. Also the brakes when they work are POOR, and the truck is dangerously hard to get stopped, especially if it is loaded. Don't ever stop quick in front of a GM truck, because they can't stop and will run into you! I know, I have 2 of them. GM doesn't belong in the car business. They are trying to kill us all. No wonder they almost went out of business. They should have gone out of business. The government saving them means we will have more of their sorry excuses for cars on the road.

When he heard to sounds, he was amazed that no one else could actually feel the vibrations coming from the suspension or running gear. We put the vehicle on a hill, turned the wheel to the right and with gentle acceleration could duplicate the mystery. He thinks it's associated between the transfer case or the rear end or axle bearings or ??

Anyone got a better guess, could Chevrolet investigate without charging me an arm and a leg? It's the same clunk as when new when no one could duplicate. What could it be that hasn't gotten any worse in 100,000 miles and 11 years?

I live on a hill, 100 feet elevation off the main road. On Sept.4, I started to descend down the sloped driveway and applied the brakes, as usual. This time the brake pedal floored. I pumped to no avail. Somewhat rattled I applied the emergency brake which slowed but did not stop the descent. I then rammed the shift up through reverse and into park to short stop the truck. This could have been a disaster since at the bottom of the drive is a creek. I inspected the vehicle to find that the brake lines were severely corroded and had ruptured. I lost all brakes, both front and rear.

I called the customer service line at Chevrolet and was told that this is common in the North East because of the road salt. Since I am an engineer, I was somewhat annoyed since this could have been designed better using proper materials. I was told there were no Safety Recall or Service Bulletins regarding the brake lines.. Also told that the repair would be about $1200.

This is a 10 year old truck that has been continually garaged and maintained. Upon further research I found this is a common occurrence with this vintage Silverado. Needless to say I didn't suffer any injury but very well could have if the brakes failed a mile from my home where I need to stop before crossing a dangerous intersection. This should be recalled before someone is killed or injured.

I was told this is normal, but our 2003 Buick doesn`t have any rust on them and an older Olsmobile has no rust. I am told it is safe to drive. This is what GM said the dealership said. Please note: I have not taken my truck to Dunn Chevy yet, I am not displeased with any of their service. I am wanting to know in advance what assistance I will be able to get to fix my severely rusted brake lines. I own a 2000 1500 Chevy Silverado. I am VERY picky about my vehicles, and have taken extremely good care of it. My brake lines are very rusted, and I was advised by my mechanic that whatever I do, not to touch them, or try not to drive over uneven terrain. As I have investigated this further, I have found out that it is a fairly common thing to go wrong with brake lines in my type of truck. I also talked with my best friend in Tennessee who has a friend whose wife was hurt as she was driving the truck, the brakes went out, she had to hit a tree to stop. She was not hurt badly, thank goodness. I have not had an accident at this time.

Being curious, I went on line, found multiple reviews of this same problem, and now I am afraid to drive my truck. It seems to me, being a long time Chevy owner, and knowledgeable about mechanics, I know this is not a normal occurrence. I also am aware that this could cost over 2000 dollars to repair, and unfortunately, I just don't have that kind of money available to make these repairs. I am hoping that GM/Chevy will stand by this apparent defective brake line, and direct me to a dealer or repair shop where I can get much needed assistance. Please contact me to discuss any assistance GM/Chevrolet is willing to give to repair this defect that should not be happening at this time. I am willing to send pictures of my wonderful truck, the brake lines, etc if that will assist you in making your decision.

Husband drives over the road and thought I needed to have something safe, ha ha. I have babied this truck and so far these are the problems I have had: 2 fuel kits, 3 complete brake overhauls hubs and everything. It just keeps breaking. Tranny went out at 60 thousand miles and has gone out again at 100,000, water pump, wheel bearing and other little things. My gripe is that if you pay 30 thousand dollars for a vehicle it should last longer than this one has. Yes some was under warranty some not.

I will never buy a vehicle from Mills Chevrolet again. Some of these problems I knew something was wrong and I would take it to them and they would just give me back the truck and say, "Well, we are not sure so you will just have to drive it till it breaks." Who says that? My husband says I know more about my truck than the experienced mechanics at the dealership. It is very sad that I did not get the whole tranny replaced when it broke the first time. That would have been the proper thing to do, and we also had the top warranty. Disgusted with Chevys...

Our truck has over 300K so I can safely say out of all the trucks we've owned, this is the one that will be our last Silverado or any Chevy product ever. I will only buy Asian or European from now on. To get started, I will list the three primary reasons to avoid the Silverado's in particular. 1. The entire electrical system in all newer model Chevy’s completely negate the point of having a fuse box. Almost 90% of all repair work is countless hours researching symptoms and finding out which "plastic box, plug, diode, whatever" inside the dash or engine compartment flipped out and is now causing havoc with the entire system. These can be anywhere from mildly annoying to extremely costly.

One nasty one that got us was that if the "ignition switch" which is anything like an ignition switch of yesteryear as it's some weird electrical/gearbox/switch hybrid monstrosity. This "switch" which of course is only made by Chevy can cause anything from airbags to be disabled, turn signals on trailers to stop working, vehicle won't start to something even more drastic like your 4WD system to "slip" partially into gear thus wrecking it. And that too is a Chevy part that of course is no longer made or supplied and will cost you $1,400 just for that one unit. If one electrical system component fails, it has a habit of taking out another so once your electrical starts to go, the whole vehicle is essentially a loss. Most common problem is the "electrical plugs" due to "heat/melting" - makes you wonder why they put them right under the heat vent. Chevy stopped making vehicles a long time ago. Now they make crappy computers with 4 wheels attached.

    2. Cutting corners in manufacturing saves their bottom line but massively increases the repair job headache for you. One common repair are U-joints, and instead of metal pins, they used nylon injected in - removing this stuff is a major headache and can be very dangerous. Hope that 15 minutes you saved on the assembly line was worth 6 hours of my life with a side order of stress and threat to life and limb. 3. The metals they use in their engines and transmissions are complete junk. It's all been pressure cast and with speed and cost in mind, not quality. Engine and tranny failures are extremely common and random.

And finally, this applies to all American Auto Manufacturers and many overseas manufacturers as well. They all design their vehicles on a computer to perform to the specs advertised, but designed to fail in key areas, essentially classic "planned obsolescence". It's becoming so that taking OLD classic vehicles from the past, tearing them down to nothing, and putting the whole mess back together with new engines, transmissions, and everything else and building your own vehicle is the way to go. How pathetic has the auto makers of the world become when everything they make is a designed to FAIL and milk you dry in obscene repair bills and maintenance hassle. If you want a job done right, got to just do it yourself.

At 4:35 pm, I was contacted and told 3 fuel injectors were defective and the Technician wanted to try and clean them. I approved. On 5/14/2013 at 9:50 am, I was contacted and told they could not repair the 3 injectors and would have to replace all 8 Injectors (Cost Approximately $5K). When I picked the Truck up and paid the invoice in full, I asked for the old parts and was told they were rebuilt parts and I could not have them. I filed a claim and it has been rejected.

This Truck has been serviced regularly and service records are available. The truck has never been abused, altered or wrecked and it looks like new inside and out. I paid over $40K new with ext. warranty and have invested over $10K in repairs & service. I purchased it when I retired to pull a small RV. Repairs are as follows: Replaced Steering Bushings; Replaced Steering Shaft Splines; Replaced Steering Gear; Replaced front wheel bearings; Replaced Instrument Cluster; Replaced 4 Glow Plugs; Replaced all 8 Fuel Injectors; Replaced Transmission Dipstick; Replaced 4 Shocks. The service brake light comes on intermittently and the Dealer cannot fix the problem. This truck is a Lemon.

The injectors were inferior and defective parts from the very beginning much like the front wheel bearings. I found it interesting when I had to replace the front wheel bearings, the Technician told me the new bearings unlike the OEM bearings would probably never fail. I was in effect told the same thing with regards to the injectors. 50% of the time, when I see a Chevrolet Duramax sitting at a stop light, it is smoking. I wonder why. I also wonder when the Brakes or the front wheel bearings are going to fail.

Brake lines are critical safety items that should either be made of stainless steel or other non-corroding material. Since GM opted not to make safety a priority, GM should have maintenance requirements to change periodically.

My lines failed after 10 years. I have read in blogs where others have failed in a lot less time and mileage. Also an issue that appears to have been ongoing for years. The person at the dealership told me he had to change on his 1995 vehicle too. The dealer service rep knows about the potential danger. Why shouldn't everyone else? They made TSB on the issues, which is not a recall and they won't pay for anything. Also, while stronger than steering rack and pinion, they still use the same poor idler arm/pitman arm/tiny tie rod design that continues to wear out very quickly. Furthermore, the transfer case has issues where the chain eats through the case and requires $10+ a quart fluid. There is no fix, but to replace the transfer case. Next, I went to get my brake pads changed out and the parking brake repaired. The parking brake, to the best of my knowledge, I have never even used. The design on these parking brakes is the worst design that my mechanic has ever seen, and GM even admits it is a poor design. But GM did not make this poor design a recall item, so guess what? The brakes and parking brake repair was another $535.00.

Now I have my instrument cluster failing the PRND321 and the odometer has stopped working or at least you can't see the readout. So guess what? I was told, it would be another $500.00 to fix this. What a long lasting and cheap to maintain pickup my Chevy Silverado has been. I am praying that this is the last repair I have to make.

My 1994 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado pickup is falling apart due to heavy rust and rot in multiple areas of the frame! Overall condition of the truck would not warrant one to suspect this level of deterioration. I recently purchased the vehicle used, in a private sale, upon assurance of the seller this vehicle was sold to me as solid drivable condition with only known areas of rust being in the rearward trailer hitch area behind the spring perches, the rusted rear bumper and the acceptable minor spots of body rust at bottom edges that were common to a used vehicle residing in the New England area. I clearly absolve the previous owner of false statements as it was a below market sale and with that I assumed the risks.

Two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, one of the two fuel tank straps broke due to rust and the fuel tank partially dislodged. No leaks were apparent. I attempted a proper repair, only to discover the areas of the frame normally blocked from view by the now partially dislodged tank were heavily rusted. Above the tank, the two crossmembers that the fuel tank is attached to are also heavily rusted and rotted through in spots. I made an alternate repair as the intended tank strap mounting locations are rusted badly.

Two weeks later, while traveling home from work and after hitting a bump in the road, I heard a horrible sound. I stopped to investigate. The other strap holding the tank which looked fine upon inspection when I fixed the rear strap was touching the ground. The fuel tank dislodged partially, again. I investigated the cause of the failure and found that the actual mounting location tore off the crossmember of the frame due to rust. The strap itself was still good. I again made an alternate repair to secure my fuel tank back in position up under my truck and made an appointment with a shop to have a better repair made and for an evaluation of my newly discovered rust problems.

Again, even if you look up at the underside of this truck, you see normal surface rust, a solid, still painted and not heavily rusted underside to the body. From the sides, the frame rails look good. It's not a condition that you would expect nor should it be with a vehicle in this overall condition. Pro evaluation of my truck revealed rusted out crossmembers. They are also rusting and detaching from the main frame rails. The main frame rails are rusting out on top between the area of the two fuel tank crossmembers; there is heavy rust and possible weakening in the frame rail section beside the gas tank; a small crack is starting in the bottom rail. There are rusted out body mounts at the rear of the cab and the radiator support mounting areas in the front of the frame are rusting out along with the rear shock absorber mounts that connect the top of the shocks to the frame.

My mechanic tells me this is common for these trucks. After much research, I see he is correct. 1988 to 1998 across the line of Chevy and GMC truck and SUV models have heavy frame rust causing safety issues. There are numerous reports of fuel tanks falling, brake lines failing unexpectedly, underside mounted spare tires falling down and becoming road hazards for other motorists and even trucks having complete frame failures and breaking in half! Most of these vehicles were in good or better overall condition. There is no reason to suspect failures like this. All cases are due to frame corrosion and parts closely mounted to the frame. Most instances, both the failed parts like lines or mounts and the area of the frame they are mounted to are badly rusted out. These are not cases of improperly cared for and/or overly exposed vehicles. These are cared for and reasonably used vehicles for the purposes in which they were intended and recommended to be used as such by the manufacturer.

Materials used in the making of structural and undercarriage components on thousands of these vehicles are most definitely defective. And action should be taken by General Motors to correct this problem and make amends to current owners of these affected vehicles and to those owners who no longer own the vehicles due to a total loss over structure failure problems. These problems run heavily from 1988 through to 2008 models but may also affect earlier and later models that I have not discovered in my own research. Please, anyone else experiencing the same or related rust and rot corrosion problems of the frame structure and related components of your GMC, Chevy or other family brands of General Motors line of trucks and SUV type vehicles, please come forward.

2000 Chevy Silverado, rusted out brake lines - In January of 2012, I experienced a full brake line failure as I was approaching a stoplight. I began to press down on my brake pedal. It gave a few seconds of speed reduction, then the pedal dropped to the floor. I had to run through the stoplight and swerve into the opposite lane to avoid a collision with an oncoming van that was turning through the intersection in the left lane. I had no brake activity at this point and had to use my emergency brake pedal and hit a curb to slow the vehicle down. After the vehicle had stopped, I examined the underside of my truck to see that the brake lines had rusted out entirely and had burst when I had tried to apply the brakes.

I have a 2005 Silverado 2500HD with 82K miles. I'm the second owner and bought it in 2007. When I got in it a week ago to drive somewhere, the brake pedal went to the floor. I checked the brake fluid reservoir and it was completely empty. I had no indication of a problem up to this point. I filled the reservoir but the brakes would not pump up. I looked underneath and saw brake fluid dripping. Upon closer inspection, I found the entire set of brake lines and fuel lines were rusted to the point of being rotten. I wiped off the lines to find the leak and found the fuel line was also leaking. At this point, the fittings on the ABS module cannot be removed without breaking or damaging the module. I haven't estimated the cost, but all the lines, brake and fuel will need to be replaced as well as the ABS module.

On 1-31-13, I purchased a used 2007 Chevy Silverado from Bruner Chevy/Toyota in Brownwood, TX. I love the truck. It's exactly what I was looking for and they really went out of their way to get me a deal I could live with. The problem is I have owned this truck for exactly one week now and Sunday morning after church while I was sitting in my new truck, I discovered huge cracks in the dash that weren’t there when I purchased it. I returned immediately to the dealer to show it to them and I was told it could cost $1,200-$1,500 to repair it. I fully understand that this is a used vehicle and I also understand that neither they nor I did anything to cause this damage. However, I didn’t pay $18,000 for a clean low mileage truck only to have the dash crack open in only a week. Their first comment was I should probably file this with my insurance, because it was going to be very expensive to repair. Then I was told they would look at ways to possibly cover it.

First of all, I will not file this with my insurance because it is not a valid claim. Neither I nor anyone else caused this. Secondly, this would cost me a $500 deductible, and thirdly, the very reason I purchased this vehicle is because my previous truck burned one week prior to my buying this one and the insurance would most likely cancel if I file two major claims within a week of each other. I am very proud of my truck and am pleased with the deal and dealership with which I have dealt. However, I feel this is something that GM should have to cover. It was not caused by excessive heat or cold, neglect (as the dash looks like brand new) or by either myself or others.

I know however it will be much more beneficial for GM to have a satisfied customer showing off their beautiful vehicle to friends and family than have a very disgruntled one pointing out the defects. I sincerely would appreciate knowing if there is anything at all that can be done to have this repaired and not cost me as I feel like I don’t owe anything here. I haven’t even made a payment on this vehicle yet and already this has happened. Quite frankly, I wouldn't have bought it in this condition and the person who sold it to me said they wouldn’t have sold it in this condition. They would have wholesaled it out rather than sell it on their lot like this. Please, anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

I started my GMC truck and applied the brakes to shift into gear. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor but then seemed to work. I continued on my way on the highway, and shortly afterwards, the brakes went completely out. Thankfully, I was close to home and slowly drove directly to our Chevy Dealer in our town. Our Chevy Dealer was very helpful and inspected the vehicle immediately. They found that the entire brake lines were rusted out and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,300. Note this vehicle only had 35,000 miles on it which I questioned our dealer. But he showed me the vehicle's rusty brake lines, and they were in fact not repairable.

Brake line ruptured while driving. Luckily, it happened while I was traveling at low speed and had plenty of stopping distance because while the second half of the brakes still functioned, stopping distance was greatly increased. I've come to find through research that this seems to be a very common problem. I had the ruptured line replaced and was told the rest of the brake lines and fuel lines should be replaced due to the amount of rust. I love this truck but knowing I'm driving around in a truck that is known to have such a dangerous safety issue tarnishes my opinion of GM.

It is possible that a strong metal handle is in order as we need it for strong farm vehicles. Even the 1969 Chevy Impala I grew up learning to drive had terrible inner door handle problems.

Our 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500's brakes busted coming out of a parking lot. We lost all the fluid and the parking brake didn't work at all. All the lines were rotted. I called a garage and they said that it was a common problem with Silverados. They said it would be about $1600 to fix. I couldn't afford that, so I had it towed home. It sat for a few weeks so I could try and find a garage to fix for less. We forfeited Christmas to have the brakes fixed as we live in an area where snow and ice is frequent, and my husband needed the truck for work. We again had to have it towed to the garage and it cost $1,584. We are still suffering financially for that one. There is no recall for this although there are numerous complaints?

This garage knew what kind of vehicle we had before I told them. They said they had done brake lines on these vehicles many, many times, and that day I called they said they had 3 at that time they were doing. This is a good garage that I have repairs done. They said the brake lines are a bad design on these Silverados. Of course, calipers had to be replaced. The mechanic said it costs this much because it is a tedious job. I just want you to know that the very next day after these lines broke, I was taking a trip to MD to visit relatives from PA. Just about all of the trip is highway at 65 mile per hour. There is no doubt in my mind that we would all be dead if those brakes broke just one day later. I am pursuing this matter.

In Dec. 2012, I discovered brake fluid leaking from a pinhole that developed in one of the brake lines feeding the rear wheels. Upon inspection, I was shocked to notice that all of the brake lines throughout the truck are severely rusted. The truck is in otherwise such excellent condition that the paper identification label that was attached to the frame by the factory is still intact and in good shape, proving that the truck has experienced minimal weathering and use. The rusted brake lines are an obvious manufacturer's defect in material. There is no way these should be this rusted and failing. Thank God, I wasn't driving the vehicle when the line ruptured.

I took it back and they told me it was the injectors. I took the truck to another dealer. They spent 3 days at a cost of $1,000 after removing the glow plugs to tell me it was the injectors. Why they have to remove the glow plugs to tell me that, I really don't know. It wasn't necessary. They told me with the work they did so far with the glow plugs and to install new injectors, it would run 5,600 bucks. The truck has 165,000 miles on it. The same dealership replaced the injectors before at 75,000 miles. Can you tell me how you (GM) can justify these ridiculous costs? I thought I would trade it in on a new truck. The dealer told me as the trucks sits now, it is only worth 2,500 bucks. If I fixed the injectors, it would be worth 7,500 bucks.

I have always owned Chevy's. I bought a diesel because I was told they are the most durable engine. I blew the engine in my '97 gas engine at 123,000 so I switched to a diesel. But engine repair costs are out of control. These trucks are not worth the extra money you pay for the diesel power. I need answers. I feel I'm getting ripped off at these dealerships and by GM. I pulled over and was able to stop again but the brakes never felt quite right again. I had warning list come on several times and had to keep adding brake fluid.

When I inspected the leak, it was under the driver's door right where the lines sit in their plastic hanger. I also noticed all the other lines were shot as well (as in rusted). This is my family car as I use it for work and every time we go out as a family as well as drive kids to school, etc. I am amazed at the corrosion level and am currently attempting to replace the line that is leaking, but just a small portion of it. After reading the complaints associated with this vehicle and brake line corrosion, I hope you do something(!) as thank goodness I am a careful and conscientious driver because if I were going any faster (faster than 35 mph on a 65-mph highway), I would have caused a crash. I ordered an '11 Silverado HD, 4x4, crew cab, 6-1/2' bed, 6.0 gas. Everything's fine until July '12. On a trip to California in Eastern Arizona, pulling an enclosed trailer (55 mph, cruise control, "trailering" engaged), the engine suddenly raced to 4500 rpm without a sensation of acceleration. I disengaged cruise control, braked, and finally stomped on the gas several times till it quit. Several other similar events within an hour on the trip sometimes initiated when putting on the brake in the same cruise/trailering status. I continued our trip to California and return to New Mexico without repeat. I took the truck to Casa Chevy in Albuquerque. They had it two weeks and did absolutely nothing. Explanations were that "We imagined it", "Computer says nothing is wrong", and "GM says that it can't happen". Well, it absolutely did happen.

Service Manager promised that he would intensely pursue the matter and would keep me informed every step of the way. That was August 20, 2012. Today is November 30, and guess what, no calls/contact. On a trip earlier this month to Texas and back (same truck, still pulling the same cargo trailer, this time 45 mph, cruise control, trailering engaged, going down an incline on a winding mountain road), this time, the engine suddenly raced to 5500 rpm. It took repeated applications of the brake, disengaging the cruise control, and depressing the gas pedal over about 45 seconds to get the engine speed to drop. Did I contact the "crew" at Casa Chevy? Not a chance after the disgusting incident in August. I wrote the dealership, franchise owner Mark Wiggins, NTHSA, and so on. I'm now terrified driving this truck! Otherwise, I've absolutely loved the vehicle. But memories of the incidents with other speed control issues with other vehicles like the Toyotas that killed a bunch of people come to mind.

What can I do? I have absolutely zero confidence in the truck, Casa Chevy, General Motors, and Chevy in general. This is a profoundly potentially dangerous condition, and my truck cannot possibly be the only one with the issue. I've owned numerous brand-new Chevy vehicles since 1986 and loved them all. I had a new '93 1/2t Silverado for 10 years, 186,000 (apx) miles that I sold because it was 10 years old. It has zero problems. I bought a new '03 Silverado 1/2t and drove it 8 years, and it has about 170,000 totally trouble-free miles. The only reason I had to go to the HD (3/4t) was that I wanted a crew cab with a 6-1/2' bed. Chevy doesn't make one in a 1/2t. Well, with this absolutely dangerous condition in my '11 3/4t HD crew cab 4x4 Silverado, 22,000 miles, I'm afraid to drive it.

I am absolutely certain that Mark Wiggins, Casa Chevy, Chevy, and GM will not do anything or respond. By the way, both the service writer and service manager said that they would not permit their wives to drive my truck alone - with it loaded, pulling the trailer, up and down the mountains around Albuquerque and New Mexico. Yet, they promise action and do nothing. Perhaps this truck should be called the "Lemonado".

My wife was using our 2004 K2500 Silverado (32K miles) to deliver our freshman to college in August. As she approached an intersection, she attempted to stop, but the brake pedal went right to the floor and she barely missed hitting a pedestrian. Seeing how we have had previous issues with our local Chevy dealer, I took the truck to an independent repair shop. He indicated that they had already seen about 12 trucks ranging from 2002-06 where the brake lines were totally rusted and had blown out and had had to replace all of them. Such was the case with mine. After replacing all the lines, the mechanic also indicated that the fuel lines were not that far behind and could go at any time. This issue is just as dangerous as the brake line issue as the fuel system operates at about 60 PSI and if one of those lines burst, fire could be a result.

I called my local dealer and sure enough, the service person indicated that there was no recall for either issue and I should call GM at 800-222-1020 to report both issues. The GM service person gave me a case number and indicated that I should take the truck in for inspection, which will be happening soon. I couldn't help but feel that the service personnel at the dealer had been trained to act as if they had never heard of either issue. After seeing all the reported cases on this site, I find that hard to believe. Should GM continue to turn a blind eye, it will simply be a case of pay me now or pay me later as I can just imagine the lawsuits which may fly if any of these brake- or fuel-line-related incidents results in death or severe injury.

My wife and I were in a car accident yesterday. The truck was hit by a Honda Sedan at 50 miles/hour from the front driver side, in which my wife was in. No airbags exceeded. She was thrown from the driver’s side. She is suffering from fractured foot and bones.

We are the second owners of a 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500 4WD truck. We have had brake lines go twice. The last time was at our town dump. My husband was stopped with the truck in park and when he put his foot on the brake to put the truck in gear, the pedal went all the way to the floor with no real stopping power. He checked the emergency parking brake and that too was not functioning. It doesn't seem right that Chevy has been able to use such dangerous engineering on something as important as brakes. We also have rusted transmission lines and backer plates. It is going to cost $2,000 (two thousand dollars) to fix these problems.

We are requesting that a recall be made for this defective manufacturing on such a necessary function. We are lucky that we were in park and putting the truck into gear from park when the brakes failed. This could have happened in traffic on the highway and the results would have been catastrophic. How can a manufacturer look the other way on such a serious defect?

Our 2005 Silverado 1500 had severely corroded brake lines. My wife was driving with my children and fortunately had a line rupture 500 yards from our house at 30 MPH. No injuries or damage. I've worked on vehicles from the 1970's recently that have better-looking brake lines. No excuse for such a thing. All brake lines being replaced with aftermarket stainless steel. Frame and fuel lines are also in poor condition. I've been a loyal GM truck customer most of my life until now. Shame on you GM.

My 2003 Chevrolet Silverado (2500SD 4x4) was cut off by bad driver who braked hard. The pedal went to the floor. Luckily, he missed the car by swerving. The car limped to a parking lot, and after walking around the truck, I found a burst brake line on the frame close to the left front wheel. Upon closer inspection, all the brake lines are badly rusted. The truck is in the shop for evaluation. I have a feeling this is not going to be an inexpensive repair. After reading numerous similar complaints, why are these trucks not being recalled? I've owned at least 20 different vehicles and this is the first brake line failure I've ever had! I wonder why safety is not paramount with GM. To all of you in similar situations, make sure you report your issues and save all receipts. If there is a recall, you may get some or all of your expenses back.

My 5-month old 2012 1-ton diesel Chevy Silverado with only 73,000 miles had the radiator start leaking badly in-between the cooling channels where the tiny heat fins are welding in - a $870 replacement. I expected better quality.

I have a 2001 GMC Sierra (same truck as the Silverado with a different name on it). It just hit 100,000 miles and the brake lines gave up. Lucky for me it was in the driveway and not on the highway. They put a stainless exhaust on the truck - why cheap out on the brake lines?! My 89 Chevy Cheyenne went 280,000 miles before the brake lines went, but at that point that truck was on its way out. I just paid this truck off and figured it’s going to start falling apart now a lot more. There’s rust under the carriage shocks and the shock mounts look bad. Also, at this rate she will be ready for the scrap yard in 2 or 3 years. I figured a $40,000 truck would last a bit longer.

I was driving down the road at highway speed (65mph) and the front right steel brake line burst and I lost most of my brake fluid. Upon looking under the truck for the cause of the problem, I noticed that all of the brake lines and two of the fuel lines were badly corroded. I tow trailers often and I'm thankful I wasn't towing our 11,000 lbs 5th wheel camper when this happened or there would have been a horrific crash! I have done quite a bit of research and noticed that there are quite a few complaints about the same problem for this model year pickup. Is there a recall and how do I go about getting this fixed? I am out of work on medical leave and cannot afford to take the truck to the shop and "wait" for GM to think about reimbursing me.

I was trying to make a slow stop while traveling down a hill and I nearly rolled into the intersection and hit a car because the ABS system stopped the brake from working. There have been some recalls for this safety problem but not for my 2004 Silverado.

I was driving from the boat launch to park my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD when the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I pumped the brakes as I slowly approached my parking spot, however, I could not get any pressure to build up in the system. With no action on the brake calipers, I used my parking brake to stop as I entered my parking spot. There was no warning or indicator light alerting me to any brake problems. After parking, I noticed a leaking brake line under the driver's side near the ABS brake module. I made a temporary repair, attempted to bleed and pump up the brakes which resulted in the rear brake line blowing out right at the hose connection. Still, no warning or indicator light came on to alert me to any problems with the brake system.

I had the vehicle towed home and as we were taking my vehicle off the truck, the brake warning light finally came on and the electronic dash displayed the message "Service Brake System". The lack of fluid in the brake reservoir must have triggered the sensor there. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the brake line failed inside a plastic brake line retaining clip, located on the outside of the frame just before it was routed over to the ABS Modulator Valve, under the vehicle on the driver's side on the inside of the frame. I replaced all the brake lines with Pre-Bent stainless steel lines from ClassicTube.Com. I am only glad that this happened in a parking lot and not while I was towing my boat. I do not believe I would have had enough wits about me to use the parking brake to stop my truck. I mentioned this problem to my local GM dealer who blamed it on the treatment of roads during the winter months. Granted living in the "snow belt", one should expect corrosion but never complete brake failure without any warning.

While towing a 34 ft. 5th wheel travel trailer with my 2004 Silverado, a car pulled in front of me causing me to engage in a panic stop. My brake pedal went to the floor. If it wasn't for the trailer brakes, it would have been a disaster. After $700 at the Chevy dealer to get my rusted brake lines replaced, I was on my way again. The brake line should be made in such a way that they will not rust out!

I have a 2007 Duramax diesel crew cab 4x4 long bed. July 2012 my factory warranty expired and in September, I brought my truck in for 75,000 mile service. I have never missed an oil change or maintenance of any kind. Today, two months after my warranty expired and 10 months before the truck is paid off, I was informed by Ed Bozarth Chevrolet that my transmission cooling hoses need to be replaced; my power steering hoses need to be replaced; my tie rod ends need to be replaced; my idler arm needs to be replaced; my pitman arm needs to be replaced; my oil pan is leaking; my carrier bearing in the drive shaft needs to be replaced. They are charging me $3,500.00 for these repairs. I was GM's biggest fan. I paid over $50,000 for this truck and have babied it like crazy. I can't even get 80,000 miles out of the original equipment. I am so angry. It's like clockwork, build it to last only until the warranty expires and screw the customer. After a lifetime of GM loyalty, I will never be a customer again.
