I purchased my 2017 Chevy Malibu last October with 17,000 miles on it at the time. Since October of 2017, I have had to take it back to the dealership 5 times for multiple problems including: Car not turning off; Driver's seatbelt not buckling; Wire sensors in engine had to be replaced; Transmission control had to be replaced and currently I have water getting in the roof and seats of my car every time it rains. Also, trying to trade the car back in they only offered me $12,000 for it with only 27,000 miles on it.

My mom told me to choose this car over Kia Optima. It was a better price than the Kia and parts are easier to get. The dealership had a good deal on the Chevy Malibu and salesman gave me that. The car has clean lines and updated. I like the touchscreen on the dashboard and Bluetooth is convenient. But I wanted a different color. I like black and dark colors. And if the car wasn't so wide I would like it more. I'm used to driving Nissan Sentra and compact cars. But the Chevy Malibu is very smooth driving and I feel Very safe to drive.

Chevy Malibu is a very reliable vehicle. There is not many complications that go wrong if you keep it maintenance regularly. It's very safe as well. Definitely a good starter car or even a daily use vehicle. I never worry about being broke down on the side of the road. The appearance is very nice and the design of the car is too. I've never even had this car in the shop for problems or complications. The price is not outrageous either. It also has very good gas mileage which is a big plus for current gas prices. I can get 25 miles for gallon most of the time. There is a lot of compartments as well to store things. There is also a lot of trunk space in this vehicle and it also has a good stereo system. Furthermore, it has a sports appearance but is also a good family car. You can fit five people in this vehicle and not feel crammed in together like most cars are.
It is a little work taking the front bumper off to access some parts but it is not too bad. Also, the sensors short out sometimes. For example the tire air monitor, it shorted out sooner than expected but it is not a big deal as long as you continually check your tire air. But it is definitely a good quality car in my opinion. It is important to trust that your car will not malfunction at the worst times. I've had all positive experiences with this car and I really enjoy having it. My mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and myself all have this type of car. A lot of my friends and family has this vehicle and love it. I always recommend this vehicle to friends and family.

I bought a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu a little over a year ago and my rear brake calipers are so hot that they are literally melting the back tires on the car... Of course my warranty is no longer valid. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this sort of problem with this year and make.

I really spent a lot of time researching the car purchase. I really like my new Chevy Malibu because the cars drive is smooth. It’s very sturdy of a car and also really a quiet ride. The car’s Backup camera is absolutely the greatest and also has cruise control. The other models that I considered just didn't have the same features and the price was not comparable to what I was getting with this car. However, trunk isn't as big as I wanted. I also had issues with the detailing coming off in certain spots. Plus, the engine wasn't as big as I would have liked it to be.

My Chevrolet Malibu has been very good to me. I have had very minimal issues with it. It runs great for the year it is (it's a 2005) which is fairly old. But for the year it has been great. The exterior appearance is in good condition. It's got good trunk space and plenty of space for my children in the backseat. I chose this car because it's good on gas and I like the overall appearance of it. Overall, I am 100% satisfied with my vehicle.

The Chevrolet Malibu Classic 2005 runs smoothly and I love driving this car. And I like the color of it. When I bought it everything I asked for to have in my next car worked and still does right down to the lighters working so I can charge my phone while driving. My blinkers and the air condition worked. But the car had the wrong thermostat in it. It for a summer one and I needed one to replace this, so it could put out more heat for the winter. Now I had IT FIXED.
I have already put around 1000 dollars in it to keep it running. But I have a brake and rotor job to do still. This week I'm going to buy my second pair of window wipers because the one I have on it now, the rubber on the drivers side does not touch the window to be able to wipe the lower half of my wind shield. Then I think my car will be good for a while. But I wish they had tinted windows. And I wish it didn't have chips of paint off the front of the car. If I could only afford to have a paint job done on it then I would love the car even more.

The Chevrolet Malibu used to be a sports car. Now it's a family sedan. It is a good, quality, well-running American-made vehicle. The car is sturdy. It is durable. It is long lasting. I like that this has been a reliable basic car: always starts, gets us where we are going, little to no maintenance. Just gas and oil, mostly. An occasional tune-up. Nothing fancy. Any mechanic can perform it. This is good because we live in a rural town where you can't get fancy mechanical services. However, it has complex dashboard features I have been unable to entirely figure out. For example, the heating system is too complicated and not user intuitive. Overall, it was a good car, would purchase again.

I bought the Chevy Malibu mainly for the OnStar system. This system is excellent and simple to use. The car however has not been such good buy. I have had some problems with the car and have not been too happy with it. The car has had tire, brake, battery and window problems and all item repaired came out of pocket. The OnStar is its only saving grace. I like the handling of the car, the leathers inside and the color of interior. But I would improve paint on exterior because my car has serious paint peeling. It was a factory defect that was not covered by warranty. The door developed a leak in the driver's window that was not covered either. I would also improve gas mileage. It is acceptable but not too much. Will really think before I purchase another Chevy.

My Chevy Malibu 2005 runs great. I drive it to and from work every day. I would not trade it for anything. This car is the car of cars. If you don't drive a Chevrolet then you are not driving a good car. I simply love my car. I like its radio, cd player, remote start. It has nice tires. Cool gray color, nice interior and exterior, great running motor. Chevy cars are built to last a long time great running vehicles. Body style is great as well. I will be using this cars for long time. If you want a nice clean car get a Chevy Malibu. You won't be sorry. It's a cool car and nice perks too. But 22" rims would make the car stand out and dvd players in the headrest to keep the boy busy. I may one day put a sunroof in the car. I am one very happy customer. I smile when I think of my car.

This 2016 Chevy Malibu is our second Malibu. They are well made and reliable. I like the warning lights when they work. In the last Malibu the gas tank gauge stopped working and the cost to fix it was outrageous. Nevertheless, we like Chevys, easy to drive not too fancy. We have had good experience with these cars other than the gas gauge. Also, the top coat started to come off. The interior lights do not come on soon as you open door at night. There is a tire that loses air in cold weather. Still, very satisfied with car.

I have had a few Chevys before. Chevy Malibu so far has been probably the best I've had. It's a newish model so has some of the nicer amenities. I like the fact that it had been done by only two people and it has never been in any accident. Also, it is fuel efficient, is comfortable, and it is a perfect commuter vehicle. Unfortunately it has had a couple of recall issues which is frustrating. Also, it has a stained driver side seat from a previous owner that I have not been able to afford to fix. Furthermore, I'm not a fan of the fact that it is silver because of the metropolitan area that I live in is known for its rain. I hate the fact that I have to take it to a dealership just to get the headlights and taillights replaced costing about $300 for 4 headlights.

I absolutely love the Chevy Malibu! In 2010 it saved my life in a rear end collision! I was stopped at a stoplight and a woman that was texting ended me at 55 miles an hour! It had all the right breaking points! Besides that I love the cruise! I also love the way it looks and it's comparable to the Camry for thousands of dollars less!!! Overall, Chevys are very dependable! It has all the bells whistles for reasonable prices! Also I like its durability. If you take care of a Chevy it will take care of you!

I purchased a Chevy Malibu because it offered heated seats heated and comfortable. It also had a plethora of useful additional features. The electric seating controls were a pleasant surprise and the sunroof make it a pleasure to drive on a sunny day. It drives like a dream and very pleased with the car. It also gets very very good gas mileage. The control features are extremely easy to access. Chevy Malibu exceeds all my expectations in a vehicle. Unbelievably easy to drive and a pleasant surprise was the ability of it to handle the variety of meteorological conditions which exist in my area of the country. But I am not particularly fond of all the computerization of current vehicles.

Gets routine maintenance by a dealer. One day out of the blue, no warnings, just shuts off while driving, had to get it towed. To only be told the engine is shot! Engine warranty expired in February this year. Called GM. With, "Oh well, your warranty expired." Waiting on hearing back from dealership. I do not have out of pocket money to pay for this. I will never buy another Chevy again nor will I recommend one. Wish I really would have checked with Consumer Affairs before making this purchase, because I wouldn't be where I am now.

I purposely chose the base model 1.8L engine over the more powerful 2.0. I knew I was giving up some pep, but I feel that I made the right decision since I average nearly 35 mpg highway. Not too shabby for a midsize sedan. Otherwise, the fit, finish, and aggressive styling of the interior and exterior of the Chevrolet Malibu are quite appealing. Equally important is that this is a very comfortable car to ride in.

Pretty much what everyone else said. I’ve had a lot of issues since my ownership of this car. I bought a 2010 Chevy Malibu in 2012 and it’s constantly having problems. Rear defrost doesn’t work at all and the other defrost hasn’t worked worth a crap since I had the vehicle. Auxiliary in the radio has not worked properly ever. Airbag light always coming on and off. Key fobs quit working, door locks work on and off sometimes 2 doors lock, sometimes all, sometimes one, sometimes none never consistent either. Not to mention the rear door locks are way in back so not easy to unlock manually. Doors lock when they shouldn’t, they’re suppose to engage on putting in drive they’ve locked before on closing the door, don’t ever exit the car without the keys in your hand never know when they’ll lock. One of the doors would pop open when shutting other doors.
All these issues have been ongoing since day one. There have been numerous recalls. Let’s not even talk about taking the bumper off to change headlights. Car currently leaks, so every time it rains or snows I’m sitting in a puddle. Apparently even though I’ve gone through all this and probably more that I’ve forgot it appears I’m luckier than many other reviewers. This whole vehicle should be recalled.

I purchased a new 2017 Malibu in December 2016. February 2017 my check engine light came on. I was told there was an issue that GM was aware of, but had no fix. Finally received the recall notice and had repairs completed in August 2017. I have had nothing, but issues ever since. My car has been in the shop 7 times within the last 8 months. Oxygen sensors have been replaced on 2 different occasions and the car has 26,000 miles. Typically sensors are not replaced until approx. 100,000 miles. I have also had accelerator pedal replaced as well as wire harness. My car works weeks to a month at time before I must return back to the dealer.
On 2 occasions my car lost power and only operated on reduce power at 20 mph. Very dangerous in high traffic area. I purchased a new vehicle so I would have reliable transportation and this car has been anything, but reliable. Not only does this affect the resale value of the vehicle it is putting my life, the life of my passengers as well as other motorists life in danger. The dealership and GM are of no help. I have contacted the DMV and filed my vehicle as a lemon with hopes of getting relieved of this expensive piece of trash. DO NOT BUY CHEVY OR GM VEHICLE!!! I wish I had known.

I vow to inform everyone about how GM has somehow paid off somebody to keep this rubbish from being recalled.
I will never purchase another Ford, GM, or Fiat, er I mean Chrysler for the remainder of my life. These organizations know quite well the problems consumers are experiencing with their products and they are not accepting responsibility. So the next time your child doesn't accept responsibility for their actions, it is a direct reflection of the attitudes of our elected officials and corporations. 2016 Chevy Malibu is a lemon! Since purchasing this car, brand new, I had to take it back to the service department numerous times, I’m on my 5th trip because the radio is not working and they can’t seem to find the problem, the tech said it may be electrical. I’ve had to get the tire sensors replaced, the battery replaced and other things done to the point that they are practically rebuilding the car. The steering column is not working properly either so they will have to look at that when I bring my car back to figure out why my radio even after replacing it, is still not operating! I’m done. I will never ever in my life buy another Chevy and I have steered all my friends, who like the way it looks, away from this lemon!

We have a 2012 Malibu with 43,000 miles. The transmission failed. We jumped through all of the hoops GM required to "research" this issue. It took approximately 2 weeks to finally be told there was nothing they could do. Although the service manager at the dealership where we took the car to be diagnosed stated it would be better to replace the transmission ($3800) rather than repair it ($2800) GM only offered to help with repair and quoted a price of ($3100) but would discount it to $2800. How generous of them! We will never purchase another GM product and will be happy to share this miserable experience whenever with whomever we can. Don't believe the ads. GM could not care less about the people who made the mistake of purchasing their product.

2016 Malibu Premier - This car is outstanding! 2.0-liter turbo has plenty of power at 250HP. Feature and build-wise it stands up to the Cadillac for a fraction of the cost. Only issue I have is the MyLink needs updating. Dealer is doing that for free on Sat. though. It sounds like the majority of issues are with the LT and LS models and the 1.8 or 1.5-liter motors. Gas mileage is also very good for such a large car. I'm averaging 32Mpg.

Here is my NIGHTMARE... I went thru the buyback program twice! Turn down both times. The Dealer Service Manager said it should be bought back. It's in shop now since 2/26/18 and still there. The Dealer has no idea what's going on. I'm close to 80 days in the shop in all. Pistons replaced, numerous sensors replaced etc.
Earlier this year I purchased a Chevy Malibu at Hare Chevrolet in Noblesville, Indiana; at that time it had ** miles. Unfortunately this vehicle has had numerous issues, including dangerous safety concerns since it was purchased. Provided below is the timeline of events: 2/25/17 Purchased vehicle. 4/5/17 Vehicle lost complete power. Identified problem: Accelerator Sensor issue. Repair time: 6 days. Note: Occurred while driving 65 mile/hour on I-65; myself, as well as other drivers were put in harm’s way. 8/ /17 Driver’s side power seat became jammed in the most forward position, thus leaving it undrivable- Identified problem: Repair time: 4 days. 10/10/17 Engine light came on. Identified problem: None, initially. However the brakes stopped working as the service manager was returning the car to me. Repair time: 4 days.
10/25/2017 Engine light came on. Left vehicle at service center on 10/26/2017. 10/30/2017: Identified problem: Piston rings need replaced. 10/31/2017: Replacement parts will not be in until the following week – per Customer Service Rep. 11/7/2017: Repair complete – Car picked up/pistons and rings were replaced. Repair time: 13 days. 10/31/2017 Case opened with GM. 11/9/2017 Received call from GM Rep. Rep stated they would call again on 11/10/2017 with an update.
11/10/2017 Engine light came on. Left vehicle at service center on 11/10/2017. Repair time: 19 days and counting… waiting on buyback program. 11/14/2017 GM Rep spoke with Hare Chevrolet Service Advisor, discussion included: “Buy-back” program – The question was asked by the GM Rep should the vehicle be placed in “buy-back” program, the Service Advisor stated “without question” it should be based on the vehicle’s multiple issues. GM Rep asked them to run the “GM Assistance Calculator” on current issue. Vehicle put in CAC Program. GM Rep called to inform me of this on 11/14/2017. GM Rep said she would call on Nov. 16th to follow up on the GM Assistance program for the new current issue. The GM Rep never called the Dealership nor myself.
Question I asked: Did you fix the problem that makes the pistons/rings melt? The answer is no because no one knows why this is happening. She told me she would call me on 11/16 to follow up on the GM assistance on the current issue and had talked to Jen at the dealership to also reach out to the district. On November 16th, Candice did not call me nor did she call the dealership. On November 20th, I called Candice in the afternoon. She did answer the phone. She first told me the vehicle was denied the buyback because of the mileage. She could not answer why the decision was made since mileage has nothing to do with the nonconformity of the Pistons/Rings?
This vehicle has had 3 sets of Pistons/Rings: Born on Date, Feb 8th by Hare Chevrolet (according to GM Records) and now in Oct. 2017. This is very common with the Malibu 1.5L engines. This has nothing to do with mileage. The statistics of this vehicle tells you that every 8/9 months the pistons/rings will have to be replaced. Stats don’t lie. This vehicle had to have pistons/rings replaced at approximate 21,000 miles and again in Oct. 2017 with an additional 35,000 miles. The vehicle was declined because of the mileage but there is no consideration if the car is safe or is non conforming and out of service of over 46 days combined.
In Shop in December for 4 days, In shop January for 2 days and now in shop since 2/26/18 and current date: 3/9/18. This has absolutely nothing do with mileage but it does with have everything to do with 1.5L engine that keeps melting itself and there is no fix to it. So that would be a nonconforming situation and a safety situation that will go on and on, never ending. Note: All repairs were done at the Hare Chevrolet Service Center.

I purchased my Chevy Malibu from Jeff Smith County Chevrolet (Essex, Ontario) at the end of Dec. 2016. I have previously owned 4 GM vehicles (a Grand Prix, Trans Am and 2 Grand Am’s.) and enjoyed each one. This vehicle however has been a nightmare. Shortly after purchasing this vehicle (mid June) I experienced a problem with the remote. I was out shopping and the vehicle would not open. Fortunately for me I was outside Home Hardware where the staff is very customer service friendly and they were able to replace the battery for me. My next disappointment came when I returned from a weeks holiday the end of Aug. and the vehicle would not start. On Star was unable to start the vehicle and a call to roadside assistance resulted in them informing me that the battery was dead. I vacationed with 6 adults each one owned a vehicle, mine was the newest and my vehicle was the only one that would not start.
In Sept., I drove my grandson to art class and left him while I did some shopping. When I came out of the store the vehicle would not open using the remote. I tried the button on the door handle with no success. I was panicked because I needed to pick up my grandson. After making several calls to family I called roadside assistance where they hung up on me because they stated they could not hear me. After 10 mins. I tried the remote again and the vehicle opened & started. At this point I lost all faith in this vehicle and felt it was unsafe. On the 10th of November I was driving down the street and stopped for the red light, when I put my foot on the gas to go, the car jumped. A little concerned, I drove on, and at the next light it repeated the same behavior. I pulled into a parking lot and positioned myself to pull through the parking space.
When I put the vehicle in reverse to straighten it, it would not reverse. I drove the vehicle home and parked on the road so I would not have to back it out of the driveway. I called the dealer in the morning and dropped it off. I waited about 6 weeks for them to get parts to repair it. (During this time I stressed to the dealer that I felt the vehicle to be unsafe and did not wish to keep it.) The dealer notified me that the vehicle was repaired but after driving it they felt the transmission needed to be replaced. I met with the owner Jeff Smith and again stated that I was uncomfortable driving this vehicle and would like them to trade me a vehicle (demo) from the lot. Jeff stated that he was not prepared to do that but he would talk to a GM rep regarding my situation. During this process I was in touch with GM’s Customer Care office and that experience was not pleasant.
Not only did I not receive any advice or concern they rarely returned my phone calls. My vehicle was in the shop waiting to be repaired for 3 months and no one listened to my concerns. I stated on numerous occasions that I wanted GM to buy this vehicle back. I picked it up on the 12th of February 2018. Three months! I received an email from the Customer Care Rep on the 16th of February offering me 2 months car payments and an extended warranty for 4 years, the offer to expire on February 20th. I replied stating that I was not keeping the vehicle and I wanted GM to buy it back. I received my second email from Customer Care last week offering me $3000 as a trade incentive. I was to accept the offer by the end of Feb.
I realize GM is a very large company and I am literally no one, but I am a consumer and this will not be my last vehicle purchase. I believe in customer service and standing behind the products you build and sell. GM has let me down and now I will be out thousands of dollars trading this vehicle in. I will not be trading it in on a GM product. I hope that GM will reconsider my request and buy back my lemon.

After seeing nearly 600 complaints about the Chevrolet Malibu and reading the first 20 everyone needs to log all these complaints with Chevrolet and demand compensation (whether money, new engines, new car etc.). I just did this and hoping something will come of it if enough people complain. I currently own a 2013 Chevy Malibu Eco that I bought new just after graduating grad school. Excited. This was the first car I purchased. I thought I got a great deal. About 2 years into having the car (2015) I had to get the battery replaced... Too soon in my opinion but it was about -40F in Chicago so I chalked it up to that.
In the winter of 2016 I noticed my engine was ticking while I was idle and I decided to take it in to the dealership. Mind you at this point my car only has about 30000 miles so it is thankfully still under bumper to bumper. They told me my oil pan was leaking and got that fixed but told me to take my car into the dealership every 1000 miles so they can monitor oil consumption. They must have known something was up but didn't tell me. Took it back to the dealership and my oil levels were fine so I just go get regular oil changes.
Cue Fall of 2017 or the year my car went kaput. At this point my car has about 45000 miles on it (I don't drive a lot in Chicago) and I am driving in the middle of a very busy road in Chicago and my car shuts off. I am praying it will turn back on because I am in the middle of the street. I get it on and coast into a parking lot. Thankfully I am right down the road from the dealership so I take it in. They charge me $200 to look at my car and tell me my oil level is low (I had an oil change maybe 2.5 months prior) and they suggest an oil change. They said something could be wrong with my engine but they don't know. Well I get my car back and it works again...for about a week. I am driving it back home and it does the same thing, dies on my street. Check engine light is on and I am livid. I was just at the shop a week ago.
I call OnStar and they give me a diagnostic code of p0036 - something with the emissions system. I have my Fiance follow me as I drive my car to the dealership. While driving it shuts off multiple times in the middle of the road and the steering wheel locks up. Not safe at all! Thankfully I was not on the highway when all of this happened. I get it to the dealership and they end up replacing my intake and exhaust camshaft actuator solenoids. Thankfully this is covered under powertrain so I take my car and drive off assuming it is fine.
About 2 months later I go outside to start my car to drive to the train and what do you know it, the check engine light is on again. The car is driving very slow. I am beside myself because how can this happen again. This time onstar gave me two diagnostic codes p0036 and p062f. Pretty much saying the engine is failing. I checked my oil level and it is good. I am taking it to the dealership again but have called Chevrolet and complained. I asked them to make sure they log this so maybe they can have a recall. I have also asked for them to either give me a new car, new engine or buy my car back. This is ridiculous now that I see so many people having the same issues. A car with less than 50000 miles should not have engine problems.

I've owned this car going on 2 years. Not only have my transmission seals completely broke twice within the first 6 months owning it, my transmission and timing chain have both went at 96k. I am looking at over almost $5000 on repairs on a car I still owe $6000 which puts me at over $21k after everything is said and done. I am highly disappointed in Chevy solely because they know of these transmission problems and will not fix the issue.

I bought my 2014 Chevy Malibu lt 9/11/2015. The vehicle had about 30 thousands miles on it. It is now been 2 years and my engine is already going out, right after I got to 130k miles. I constantly get my vehicle checked every 1-2 months and no one has ever said there was a problem. All of a sudden about 2 days ago my check engine light came on and it also started flashing out of nowhere. Next day I took the car to the nearby GMC dealership and they told me I’m going to have to replace my whole engine, which will cost $7000 out of pocket. 2014 was suppose to be General Motors best year for vehicles. I do work for the General Motors company and I’m very upset. I love my car and it was my very first car. I really hope GM will go ahead and replace for me, even though I’m over warranty terms. I honestly do think that I just got a bad engine from the supplier.

I bought my new 2016 Chevy Malibu Hybrid in Dec. 2016. First owner never owned a hybrid before, but I thought I would give it a try. In Sept. as I was driving on freeway at 65-70 mph in traffic the car stalls and says something like reduce engine speed and car is slowing down. I was pressing gas pedal and nothing, then it says put in park. I couldn't put it in park as there were cars speeding past me as I was trying to get over to exit as I was in center lane. I put on the hazards and coasted towards the off ramp praying I wasn't rear ended in the process. I made it to off ramp. Luckily it was downhill as car was dead and barely coasting as I made to side street. However it was in a very rough part of town I would normally avoid. Where I finally stopped was not in a very safe place so I tried to restart it once It was stopped and it moved a little further then stalled again.
I had AAA, so I called them to come get me because it was on the weekend. After sitting for a while the car started and made it up on the tow truck. But after that harrowing experience I was very nervous of driving it at all not knowing when it was going to die on me again. Monday I called a nearby Chevy dealership for service and they had it towed to service dept. On Tuesday they said my car was ready and I could come get it as they reprogrammed something on it and said it was fine. They drove it 30 or so miles and didn't do it again. So I went to pick it up and was waiting and waiting for them to bring me my car, when service adviser told me they would put me in another loaner, that my car stalled on them as they were bringing it up so they were going to keep it again. 3 days later they call me and tell me the transmission needs replacing.
Keep in mind you when this happened my car only had a little over 5k miles on it. I never drive it hard or anything, just normal driving. This should not be happening to a new car with very little miles on it. I don't know if I can ever feel comfortable driving this car after this. Not knowing when it is suddenly going to die on me. I think Chevrolet needs to do a recall on these cars. After reading others are experiencing same type of issue with these cars.
I think something is seriously wrong with them. They are going to have a lot of lawsuits if people end up getting killed or seriously injured from this problem. This is a life or death problem with car suddenly dying while you're driving it. I definitely don't trust it anymore. It's not like your radio or window not working. I have owned Chevy vehicles my whole life and never had anything like this with any of the others. I am very disappointed in Chevrolet's quality control on this vehicle. I will update later what happens. Right now I think I would prefer a different car.

I bought my 2016 Chevy Malibu on March 31, 2017 used with roughly 9000 miles on it. By June one night when I was headed home my car lost power and I looked at my gauges and it said reduced power and the check engine light was on. Called the dealer and they sent a truck to pick it up. Truck driver said, "Yup the check engine light is still on."
Next day the dealer called and they said there wasn't anything they could verify. We had bought the car so we could travel and had plans to go. Knowing that the car had done what it did and I didn't trust it not to happen again we took our camper on our trip. Then we rented a car because it's not that easy to run around with a camper once you reach your destination. Get back home and drive car roughly a couple hundred miles and the same thing happens. Before we take it to the dealer again we check to see if there is a code on the car. There was. When we go to the dealers they say, "Oh that's the same code that was on there last time." What? I thought they said there was no code. Never gave me paperwork the first time. Make sure you always get paperwork.
So after a few days go by they say they fixed the problem by replacing the gas pedal with a new one. I thought ok, sounds good. Finally dared to travel some distance. Put a few thousand more miles on the car, traveled 5 different states in 1 weekend with some relatives and thought things were fixed. Wrong. By the first few days in August we needed to travel again to meet a deadline. The very day we were going to head out the car started to shake. Took car to dealer. Told them we needed a car to travel with and they said we could not take one of their cars out of state. Waited till late the next day to see if we had a car to take. Received call from dealer, said, "You have major damage to your motor." At that time they said pistons and rings. Then they said we could take their car but we didn't.
Came back 10 days later and never heard a thing. Went to dealers and they gave us a car to use. A few weeks later we are told the car needs a new motor. We needed to travel again and got permission to take loaner car. Today is Sept 20. My car has been there for about 6 weeks this time around. Don't want car back because I won't be able to trust it.
Would like to take them to court because when we thought about getting a different car from them (they were gonna work with us) they were going to give us about $8000.00 less for our car than when we bought it. That felt like a slap in the face. I don't think the car was fixed right from the beginning. Maybe if it had been the motor wouldn't have needed to be replaced. Any advise would help if people know the lemon laws. Was contacted yesterday and said the car would be ready by the end of the week. Big deal. I really don't want it back.

I bought my 2016 Chevy Malibu in January 2017. I had them pull car facts, all was fine. After 7 months I started having issues. I had just exited the freeway and it reduced speed, would not go faster than around 20 miles an hour. I pulled over, put in park and back in drive. It still would not pick up speed, message was on dashboard saying "Engine Power is Reduced" and engine light was on. Luckily I wasn't too far from work at that time. I drove 20 miles an hour the rest of the way. After work, I got back into the car, same message came on, I noticed you can dismiss the message. I pressed dismiss, car seemed to act normal again. On the way home, that happened two more times, one of those times I was going 65 miles an hour. At that point I was terrified that I would get rear ended. I took it to the dealership the next day.
They had my vehicle for about 4 days or so. The oil pump pressure control valve was stuck on, replaced pressure control valve, oil pump flow control solenoid valve replaced also. Recall 17019 Stochastic pre ignition safety recall. (Never notified of a recall.) Engine control module reprogramming with SPS and courtesy oil change came with it. Two days after getting it back, on my way home from work, it stalls on me twice during rush hour traffic. I had to put in park, and restart while people are honking at me on the freeway. Then 3 days after that I was backing up out of a parking space, as I put in drive to go forward, it will not go. It went 2 miles an hour. I put in park, and back in drive about 4 times, and then it finally goes slow and starts picking up speed.
On the way out the parking garage, the ramp to exit is at a slant up. I was the second car from the top, others behind me as well, after the first vehicle waits for traffic and pulls out to the street it's my turn to get to the top. My car will not go up. I press the gas, and car starts rolling back. I panic since a car is behind me, and step on the brake. I try again by pressing the gas all the way down, still car will not go forward, and again starts rolling backwards. I had put in park, and they had to let the cars behind me out on the opposite side. Help came, and 4 men pushed my car up the exit ramp. Once I got to flat surface it was ok, it drove forward.
I really am stressing at this point, and really feel unsafe in this car. I was about 2 hours from home and was scared to drive home thinking I would be in trouble if it reduced speed or stalled on the freeway. I took it to the closest dealership. I explained to them what happened the following week with it being repaired, and now doing the same things. Only difference was this time the check engine light was not on, and the message on dashboard never came on either. He hooked up the little machine, and said no codes were coming up to any type of issue, and there was really nothing he could do if there was no messages coming up telling him what was wrong. So I drove it the two hours home, thank God I had no issues with that drive.
I called the dealership I bought it at, they said I can bring it in tomorrow, but they would need to drive it around because they aren't sure what's the issue. I also called Chevrolet customer service. They took my info, gave me a case number and said that a case Manager would call me within 24 hours. I better hear from them tomorrow. I see many reviews online with the same issues, and not just the 2016 model. I really think Chevy's are making lemons. At this point I do not want to drive the vehicle anymore, I don't want it.
I trusted them after they said they fixed it the first time, and now a few days later I am having the same issues. My life is worth more, I want a different car. I do not want to trust them again and drive around, and end up in an accident or rear ended because of these issues. I think an attorney really needs to look at all the complaints and get us all together with a lawsuit against the company. They are putting lives in danger, and apparently it's been happening for a few years, so why are they still making cars? I learned my lesson, and will read reviews before buying another car. I hope they don't give me any issues with wanting to trade it in, they are the ones who sold it to me and they can have it back. Done with Chevy!

I purchased a 2010 Chevy Malibu LTZ. I purchased with 30000 miles on it. I at first did not want to even test drive this car due to the fact I had owned a 2000 Malibu. Drove off the lot brand new and ended up replacing the engine at 60000 miles. Warranty at that time was 50000 miles then ended up replacing it. Again finally took the Dexcool out. Finally seemed to take care of the problem. Soooo after explaining my reasons as to why I did not even want to consider this car the salesperson assured me that I had a 100000 mile warranty with this car. Foolish me buys into it again. I have not felt safe in this car for a long time. Twice the car shut down on the freeway. Thankfully I was able to pull over, shut down then restart the car and get off the freeway. I contact GM. My car was not part of the recall. Only up to 2009.
Thankfully my mechanic (not GM affiliate) was familiar with the problem after months of this going on. We were able to fix the problem. Then my headlight went out should not be a problem right??? Wring 350.00 to replace a 1.45 bulb. Ok is what it is. Then back taillight goes out hopefully easier than headlights. Well I guess could not get just the bulb. You have to buy the whole assembly through the dealer who by the way did not even know what part I bought them. I had to tell them it was a taillight which the response was this part is so rare we have to order it. Lol. Of course to the tune of 80.00. So no taillight for a few days. Next I am driving down the expressway with passengers in the car. Thank God they were with me. It is a downpour and with no warning my wipers go out while passenger has head out the window. I was able to cross over 2 lanes to get off the freeway.
Problem windshield wipers, trans to the tune of close to 500.00. Really which I was told probably should not have gone out. Get the car back now. Not even 2 weeks later at 115000 miles the transmission goes out 15000miles past warranty. What a slap in the face. Almost $4000.00. Now back to the headlights. Now I have replaced them twice in the last 2 years. Finally realized my wiring harness is bad but I can't just replace the harness. It appears you have to replace the whole headlight. There are no specific wiring harness for this car. I am currently down to one high beam on this car that functions. Will I buy this car again or any Chevrolet product? Absolutely not!!! I have had people say what a sharp looking car. My response is "It looks nice but let me tell you"... so I got the idea.
I now have a paper taped to the window that states "Yes nice looking car. But let me tell you then lusts all the problems with the car." It does get the attention of those that see it. It also states "GM does nothing but tell you to take it to their dealer. Why? So I can't get it back to my mechanic and you get my money or I pay to have it towed back." GM is fully aware of these problems but does not address them especially the transmission. Was told trans out at 115000 miles. Really. That is like a slap in the face. No, no GM no more!!!! Most my neighbors have Hondas and are fully aware of my problems. My one neighbor showed me his Honda. Told me he has only done maintenance oil, change brakes, ECT... Has over 300000 miles on it... guess what my next car is going to be. Bye bye Chevy.

My 2011 Malibu has had issues that cause the car to be unsafe to operate in other traffic... based on my own personal experience. About a year ago or so my Malibu began to lose power while I was driving it. This would occur randomly and often. If I was driving on a highway with other traffic around me, and this would occur I would have to TRY and get the Chevy Malibu off to the side of the highway safely so I would not be hit by another car behind me (going at full speed). I got the car into a garage and found out this is a typical problem with these GMC Chevy Malibus. I had to pay to fix it or risk a unsafe drive, I paid but I certainly did nothing to break or damage the vehicle, it was just made poorly I guess!
Recently the airbag sensor continues to "ding" and light up on the counsel even though all seatbelts are locked. And now, I am going to have to pay 700 + dollars to replace a gas pump of this 2011 GMC Chevy Malibu! Again, I didn't break it or cause damage to this but I have to pay for the poor quality of this GMC vehicle. I called them to ask about any remaining warranties or recalls and to request them to reimburse me for my garage repair since I did nothing to cause their parts to break.
Customer service was less than helpful, they questioned me for like 20 minutes and used my answers to find a way to "say" they helped me when they really did nothing but question me and refuse to help or pay for their poor quality workmanship on the GMC Chevy Malibu. OH and On Star... Equally as poor and NOT worth the money, I could have just used my cell phone apps to get the help when the GMC Chevy Malibu left me stalled on the road with my Grandchild in the car.

Also since I have owned this car the check air bag light keeps going off and on. Took it to a chevy dealer that I bought it from and told them. They wanted me to pay for a diagnostic test. This vehicle lacks the power required to render it a functional car. GM's EcoTech 2.0 should have been in this vehicle. The 1.5 EcoTech Turbo is destroying pistons and GM needs to send its customers new engines for this vehicle. 2 cracked pistons on mine after driving it 4k miles from the date of purchasing the vehicle. In 6 months I had a check engine light and a "Low Engine Power" warning message while the car went from 65 to 20 mph in rush hour traffic while driving. Very tense situation. Dealership said it reduces speed automatically for safety when in this low engine power mode. Does this company understand customer's lives are in their hands? Result of that incident was that they replaced the accelerator pedal. Check engine light never came on.
Shortly thereafter it started shaking while idling, hesitating to respond when pushing gas pedal on takeoff, headlights dimming when triggering stop/start and at one time stalling while sitting at a stoplight. Again, check engine never came on. I took it to the dealership on gut feeling (if you consider all these problems a gut feeling). GM said no codes were found. I insisted that they spend more time with the vehicle as the issues seemed to be happening randomly at times. They finally discovered the shaking and ran tests. After 2 weeks they brought in a GM corporate engineer and he said it was misfiring. Upon engine disassembly they found 2 cracked pistons. Why did the check engine light not come on? According to the dealer one piston failure cancelled out the other so no check engine light. Facepalm. They want to replace the pistons. I am done with this brand. Been a customer for 10 years. Not anymore.

I have owned Chevrolets since 2005 and the first was when the Equinox was first released and that was a nightmare of a vehicle. I got rid of it and purchased a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado which was brand new. No problems with that truck. Then I purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado brand new and that had no problems. In May 2010 I purchased my 2010 Chevrolet Malibu LT and I regret the decision to this day. I no longer have the trucks, but I have the Malibu and that car has been the biggest nightmare of all. I have replaced the blower motor twice, the suspension twice, the headlamps... I can't even remember because it's happened so many times, the battery twice, the entire radio/CD player unit completely fried out after 3 1/2 years so I had to put an aftermarket CD player in because to replace the factory one was over $1,000 because of Onstar. So I don't have Onstar, which I'm fine with.
The electrical system has been fixed multiple times and now it's at the dealership because when I move the shifter from "P" to either "R" or "D" and step on the accelerator it doesn't move!! The engine revs up but no movement. Then if it does eventually move when I step on the brake pedal to slow down or come to a complete stop when it's in "D" or "R" and push down on the accelerator to start moving again it will do the same thing. I have had to get out of the car to push it to safe spot on the road. Now, there was a recall in 2012 for 2008-2010 Chevrolet Malibus for a transmission issue that involved the transmission shift cable to fray and/or fracture and separate. But of course the recall is not for my VIN#. Now they say there is no safety bulletin either for my VIN# but there are over 500 people so far that I've seen have the same issue as me and their 2010 Malibu's are also not included in the recall.
So for a $40-$50 part it will cost close to $800 to have it fixed at the dealership or any other automotive shop. I can honestly say I will NEVER, EVER buy a GM product ever again. GM offered no advice, help, assistance or anything of that nature. They just repeated themselves like a broken record, "Miss you have to take it to a certified Chevrolet dealership to be diagnosed". I couldn't even ask any questions. I eventually hung up. My best friend has owned Subarus forever and even when her warranties were up including the power train warranty they always went out of their way to assist her. They gave her a rental for free for a few days while her car was being serviced. GM could learn a few things from other companies and the customer service. I'm waiting for another mailing or email to come from Chevrolet trying to sell me another one of their pile of garbage vehicles. Aside from the truck line they are all horrible, cheaply made vehicles.

I purchased my 2015 Chevy Malibu LT from Preferred Automotive Group on Illinois Rd. In Fort Wayne, IN on 12/16/15. Less than 24 hours later I took it back because my odometer was displaying (and still is) 6 dashes rather than my mileage. I also discovered that neither trip odometer works. They ran a diagnostic test, even though my check engine light has NEVER came on and told me they didn't know what was wrong. I asked for a different vehicle and was told no initially because it was a GM problem and my warranties would cover it. Wrong! Neither UK Certified Dealership would even look at it unless I paid.
Needless to say, after flying off the handle and taking this POS back to Preferred numerous times and having numerous diagnostic tests ran they still couldn't figure it out. I demanded a different vehicle and threw out the words, 'lemon law', 'attorney general', 'court' and they began to start listening, or at least I thought. Suddenly the sales guy no longer worked there, the mechanic I spoke to on Tuesday "does not exist" "has never worked there" and conveniently the service records that a manager read off to on Tuesday as well have completely disappeared. So now it appears that I have never brought my vehicle in once or complained about it.
I took my car to trade it in at another dealership last week. They loved it! I was honest about the mileage not showing, they said it was fine and that they could retrieve the mileage even though it wasn't displaying. They couldn't figure it out, did a diagnostic test and said the ECM was malfunctioning. Seriously?! Due to that they put the sale on hold and stated until I could retrieve the miles my car has $0 VALUE!! I instantly called Preferred and lost it. I was told to bring it in and they would try to retrieve the mileage and diagnose the problem.
After about 1 hour and 15 minutes they finally figured out how many miles were on my car, but in KM!! Another 30 minutes of screwing with the computer and they couldn't figure out how to change it from KM to miles!! FOR PETE'S SAKE, SERIOUSLY?! Well by that point the service tech was P.O. and wanted to go so he printed the information about my car in KM and didn't perform a diagnostic test to determine the exact cause of the problem. I took my car and my paperwork to the other dealership, but since it's not miles and the cause is unknown they are still holding off on selling me the new car I want. I'm beyond livid!! Has anyone else experienced this?! Please help?! If it is the ECM, I'm looking at $750 before taxes! I'm so done with this car.

Dishonorable mention to Rick Hendrick Chevrolet. The short abbreviated version: Purchased my 2016 Malibu on April 13th of last year. The sales experience was horrid but purchased the car despite my reservations with the expectation that it would serve me well since I drive full time for Lyft and Uber. Prior to 20000 miles, the car had a few system recalls/upgrades, but nothing too serious. One of the computer chips had to be replaced, and there were several minor glitches, such as the radio not coming on occasionally, and an error message when the car was placed in park.
After 20000, I began to notice the car had a slight sputter, then at around 24000 the engine light came on and I got a Stabilitrack warning. Upon taking it to service, I learned that the engine had a cracked piston and a cracked valve, and they would have to be replaced. Upon further investigation of the problem, I found several similar incidences on-line, most of which involved complete engine replacement. I brought this to the attention of my service rep, but he said that the part could be replaced without compromising the performance of the car.
After 6 weeks in service, I got the car back and it ran fine for a few thousand miles. After that, I began to notice the sputter again. This grew into more of an engine misfire as time wore on, but all of my attempts to bring this to the attention of my service rep were ignored because nothing was showing on diagnosis. After a few weeks of this, the car engine would shut off after going into autostop, requiring me to restart the car at traffic signals.
At this point, I called GM customer service to complain about the situation with my car. I even took a ride with a service manager to show him what the car was doing to no avail. Again, service would tell me that if it doesn't show on their diagnosis system, there is no problem. After the problem persisted, I took it to service for a more thorough evaluation. They kept the car for several days, during which, GM customer service called me to say there is nothing wrong with my car despite my claims.
A week after I got the car back, the engine light finally came on and I got the Stabilitrack warning once again. Then the car went into low power mode and began burning oil. By the time I got it into service, it had burned up most of the oil in the system, and upon evaluation of the car, the service rep told me they would have to replace the engine. This was at just over 40000 miles. They had the car for just under a month, and a week after getting the car back, the engine light once again came on and the car went into low power mode. This time the accelerator failed and would need to be replaced.
Two weeks after that, another engine light, and a Stabilitrack warning. Now the ignitors failed, but according to service had nothing to do with the new engine or the installation thereof. Now, at 51000 miles, the car is beginning to do the slight sputter again. This car is a lemon! GM nor Rick Hendricks will do anything about it, or to make up for all of my lost time and wages due to these problems.

I purchased a new 2016 Chevy Malibu from Jerry's Chevrolet in March of 2016. My current has 19k miles on it as of April 2017. The car was put in the shop on April 20, 2017 because it had lost almost all power and was driving so rough it was barely drivable. Much to our surprise the service manager notified us the following day that it needed a new motor. Outrageous! Once we got the General Manager of the dealership involved the following day we were told it did not need a motor but had a broken piston ring. They apparently removed the entire motor from the car and replaced all the pistons and gaskets and did a third repair on the malfunctioning auto stop part. So basically they rebuilt the top part of the motor. I did not purchase a vehicle with a rebuilt motor. I purchased and am paying for a new, reliable and safe vehicle. They sent me on my way and said I would be very pleased with the repair and not have anymore problems.
A day later while driving the vehicle I lost all power to the vehicle. I was trapped inside, unable to open windows or doors. Odd that there is no manual way to unlock the doors to get out. Extremely unsafe. Could not even put the car in park to try to restart the vehicle. Notified dealer and they informed me that the car problem just needed to reset after the big repair. What? The car did start back up and I drove it home. Two days later it did the same thing again while I was driving the vehicle. Only this time I was pulling into an intersection and the car just stopped and lost all power. I was almost hit by a vehicle traveling behind me and I was again trapped in the vehicle. This vehicle is a lemon and at this point a death trap. I was terrified and that is not acceptable. My child is with me everyday in this vehicle and we could be killed if this were to happen on a major highway.
The dealer has me in a loaner car and has told me that the reason this happened is because when they were doing the previous repairs the mechanic did not tighten back the positive battery cable. No way! I do not want to drive this vehicle away from the dealership! It is unsafe and I do not trust what the service department is telling me. We have demanded that they take a trade in on this vehicle without any additional finances from us. They are telling me they don't have that authority. That is ridiculous! They make deals everyday to just sell a damn car! They passed me off to Chevrolet customer service to file a formal complaint. Shouldn't the dealership assisted me in this? They are the ones who sold me the vehicle.
I placed a formal complaint with Chevrolet on April 26, 2017. Was told I would hear from someone within 24 hours. We will see how well they back their product. I will not get back into my vehicle until they have something resolved! It is unsafe!! I am prepared to take this all the way to the top with a civil suit against GM if I have to. Oh and did I mention that my husband's company has 50 employees driving GM/Chevrolet vehicles. I would hate to see that account lost.

I purchased a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu brand-new from Don Folk Chevrolet in Kelowna BC, Canada. Since purchase, I have complained about electrical issues with this car that is causing a serious safety risk that seems to be very prevalent in this model of car. The steering wheel and brakes go stiff and the instrument panel and radio unit shuts off completely. The car will also shut itself off while moving in gear which causes complete loss of operation of the vehicle. I have complained about electrical problems multiple times and from what I read (sadly) is that nearly everyone has the same issue with their dealership and/or General Motors Corporate. They say they have to replace my rack and pinion now? If anyone else has had the rack and pinion replaced please let NHTSA and or Transport Canada aware that you are having this problem so we can get the ball rolling because this is absurd.
The car is clearly mis-engineered and the dealership is trying to deny a defect, so everyone with this problem is in the same boat with this car and there seems to be a substantial amount of sheer evidence that this is an engineering defect cause a very unsafe and possibly deadly situation. The rack and pinion assembly they want to replace is approximately $2560 Canadian. They will not cover the cost because it isn't deemed a recall or defect which it should be and much like other people have said. They also do not want to cover any portion of this repair as it is just past warranty and will not guarantee this will ensure the safety of my car. There must be something we can do together, this isn't a co-incidence.

I bought my 2017 Chevy Malibu Premier in January of this year and already have problems. I brought my car in for a simple oil change and the dealer decided (without my permission) to fix a recall on it. According to the dealer he was "required" to fix the recall (transmission module update??). I had no problems prior to this "fix". Now my car shifts hard and my cruise control doesn't work. The dealer claims "That is normal. The car just needs to relearn your driving"... Not buying that.
I asked him to reverse the "update" and he said he couldn't and there is nothing he can do for me. I decided to get a second opinion and brought it to different dealer. Lo and behold I was right... It wasn't "normal". The new dealer told me that they might have to replace the whole transmission... WHAT... NO. This is a new car; I don't want a car that has a rebuilt transmission when I paid for a brand new car... Needless to say I'm very disappointed. I have always purchased Chevy vehicles, however, that is now going to change.

I will never buy another GM!!! So my 2002 Chevy Malibu blew a head gasket at 88000 miles. Head was cracked ended up replacing motor. One day the wife was backing out of my driveway and ran into my other vehicle which busted up the driver's side tail lamp assembly on the Malibu. When she got out to look the light was glowing and poof, burst into flames. She frantically got my two kids out of the car and tried putting out the fire with some water bottles and one gallon jug of water, all to no avail. Luckily she was at home, and grabbed the fire extinguisher which put the fire out. The assembly is melted with some blackening around it and a burnt smell inside the car. When I called GM they said it was the "collision that started the fire". So if a minor fender bender can catch their car on fire with my two kids in it, no thanks. Not to mention the fire was right above the gas tank. Lost a customer for life, and I recommend everyone to steer clear.

I was transfer to the service department and they told me to bring the vehicle in the afternoon. After work I proceeded to go and get my children from school. As I was merging into Interstate 4, the car panel turn off. I lost power steering, the steering wheel lock. I was not able to merge into traffic. The car went from 60 miles to almost a complete stop. I tried to turn my emergency lights and the car panel kept turning off. I lost power again, the steering wheel lock. I couldn't get off the highway because the power steering will not go back on. The windows and power lock did not work. I couldn't open the windows, it was very scary for me and my children. I pull on the side of the road, call the dealer, talk to Mr. **. He told me to drive the car to them and it was going to be check on Monday.
I requested the car to be towed. This car was not safe to be on the road. He kept telling me to drive the vehicle to them which the dealer is a 40 minute drive from my home. He even told me to go directly to the Chevy dealer close to me which is in Clermont, FL, almost an hour from my home. I requested the vehicle to be towed. Mr. ** told me to drive it to my house and then they could send someone to pick it up. I cancel my purchase of vehicle. I do not want this car anymore, it not safe to drive. I was terrified. My children and I could have gotten seriously hurt or even kill driving this car. The car would shake, the heat would cut in and out, the battery drained over and over, the headlights came on in the middle of the night, the alarm began sounding often, check the esc. Then it just stopped.. Starting. First trip to the dealership they told us it was the codes, 21, low codes. The car wouldn't start the next morning. I bought my 2011 Malibu brand new with 4 miles on it. 4 days after driving it off the lot my car died making a left turn. I brought it to the dealership and they were unable to replicate the problem. Years passed with some normal wear and tear until I felt it shifting late. It got worse until 1 day I was at a stop light and when I went to accelerate it wouldn't move, no matter if it was in the manual mode, automatic or reverse. Had it towed to a dealership and the transmission control module had to be replaced, thankfully under warranty.
6 months went by and I felt it shifting late again, so a mechanic recommended pulling the battery and maybe it would reset its learned shifting behavior. When I reconnected my battery my odometer went from 74,000 miles give or take to 7,300 miles!! I spoke with a dealership and they had no idea what would cause it. 9 months passed and I decided it was time to trade it in, but no dealership will give fair trade value because of the odometer issue. So I brought it to another dealership and they accuse of me of tampering with it. They replaced the instrument panel cluster and of course did not get it resolved. So Chevy has no clue why this happened and the dealer has no idea. I owe 7k on the car and I'm ready to cut my loss.

I have had my 2011 Chevy Malibu for 5 years now and I loved it! Keyword loved... I used to consider myself a Chevy guy after being raised with Chevy and GMC my whole life. I have had numerous issue with this car and have shrugged them off with Brand Loyalty. Especially since my dad worked at GM for a long time. I will never be buying myself a Chevy again. Let me get you up to speed with my story on this car (or lack of car).
So my car is 2011 Chevy Malibu LTZ with 90,000 miles on it. In the course of 5 years, I have had the brakes replaced 5 times. The mass air flow sensor go out twice. All the spark plugs go out twice (they are 100k mile plugs). Battery go out 3 times within a 3 year span. Different rims bend while normal driving and having to put on the spare because the tire deflated (still on factory rims). Radio switching inputs on its own. Aux hit or miss if going to work. Car shaking then turning off right after it being turned on. Car sometimes not braking properly even if pushing down all the way on the brakes.
After all of these it leads me to my worst and breaking point on the vehicle... so the current status of my car is undrivable. I had just gotten back from vacation and had left the Malibu at home. I went to go to work in the Malibu and on the drive the car came almost to a halt on its own from 55 MPH down to 20 MPH instantaneously and wouldn't go over that speed. I pulled over and turned off the car. After waiting 5 minutes and trying again my car would not accelerate past 20MPH and the check engine light came on.
After getting it home I checked the code on the car with my reader and got error P0700 which says shift solenoid or transmission control unit. I tried to reverse it out of my garage to take it to a mechanic just to find the reverse had just stopped working too. I had 3 mechanics look at it and they all said the transmission was out and that it had a special code on the transmission that only Chevy could program in so that the replacement would have to be through Chevy. I called all the dealers and they said my warranty was a month up, but that they could look at it to see what's wrong. I called the main line for GM and they had told me that they could do a courtesy fix or they could possibly give me an extended warranty.
The catch was I had to get it checked out at a Chevy dealer first for them to give me the free fix. They set up a tow which they charged me for and then charged me to have it inspected. They came up with the same conclusion that it was the transmission. They said it would be 2000 to inspect the inside of the transmission and 4000 to replace it. After that the following week went on with me not being able to get ahold of the people at the main GM office that told me they would fix it. Then I got a call from the dealer after having my car there for 3 days saying that if I didn't come get it by the weekend that they would deem it abandoned. They had told me the talked to the representatives from the main GM office that I had spoke to and they said they would not help with the problem and for them to have my car off the lot if I wasn't going to pay to have it fixed.
The car is 5 years old and has 90,000 with a transmission problem!!!! I have seen multiple Malibu owners with all different year Malibus reporting the same issue with the transmission between 80,000 to 110,000. I am afraid to pay to get it fixed because if it stays consist that could be 3 transmissions in the life of the car. That would be 10s of thousands of dollars on that fix through the life of the car. I think this car is a lemon because of everyone having the same issue with different years of Malibu's. Chevy is aware of this and have not recalled it because they know of the repercussions from it and probably like all the money they are making off of the constant fixes. This car is a money pit and should not be sold anymore until all these things are fixed.
I would like this car replaced or something to be done about this. I would be willing to get into a class action lawsuit even for this. They have no problem taking your money for the car and fixes but will not help you to fix the issues they are aware with the car. Something needs to be done about this and it can't just be one person it has to be all the people who have been wronged by this model of car. If there isn't a stop put on it then they will continue to cause more distress on more unknowing victims that buy this car. If something doesn't change soon there could be a lot of people injured or fatalities in this car and a lot of life's in danger. There isn't a price on people's lives and this company must be stopped! It has gone on for far long enough!!!

I purchased my 2010 Chevy Malibu LTZ slightly used with only 8,000 miles in same year of 2010. Thought I was getting a good bargain being that due to it being slightly used the price of the LTZ model was the same as the lower end models of the same year saving me $8,000 for all the upgrades. The first problem began roughly 3 years after purchase and around 45,000 miles.
I live in south Texas so even in the winter months temperatures are fairly mild but during our cold months I was unable to start my car in the mornings. I would turn the starter and it would sound as if it was trying to fire up engine so I tapped gas pedal and it would then start however a cloud of black fumes would come out of tailpipe. This happened on a few occasions so I took it to 2 separate mechanics who were unable to find cause of problem but believed it to be a fuel injection problem. They said normally a car would need to change the fuel filter but my car does not have a simple fuel filter to change. This worried me a great deal because it sounded like it will be a more expensive fix.
By chance, during the same time this was happening my passenger side low beam light went out. So I went to AutoZone to purchase light and usually they are kind enough to change the bulb for me however when the AutoZone worker came out and looked at my car said he would not be able to change my bulb due to the complexity of the design of my car. Had to be taken to a mechanic which cost $179 in labor just for headlight change. I spoke with same AutoZone worker about the problem I was having with my car not wanting to start when the weather is cold. He said to try using only high-octane gas from either Shell or Valero. Up until that point, I would buy my gas at any gas station and only use regular grade.
So I followed his advice and 4 years later I have not had any further problems with that issue. I chalked it up to having a "picky car." My car is now 7 years old with approximately 102,000. Last week the transmission went out. Up until the day it went out I had no indication there was a problem with the transmission. So I am now replacing the transmission with a Jasper at a total of $4,400. My car was just paid off 3 months ago and of course the warranty is out. I didn't bother to take it to Chevy but a very reputable auto mechanic in town.
I had their mechanics give it a thorough look over to see if anything else would need to be replaced or see any further potential problems. They did find that all 4 ball joints have a rubber seal that protects against grinding are all worn down and recommend replacing those at a cost of $650. Mechanic did indicate that it is rare to see them worn out and that on most cars that is something that sometimes never needs to be replaced. Headlight needed to be replaced once again about 4 months ago which this time was about $159. Both times the headlight was out I had them replace the bulbs on both sides since the cost of labor is so high.
To list a few other things my rear defrost went out about 3 years ago. I left it alone because being in south Texas I don't really find that I need it. The sunroof leaked when the car was approximately 3 years old. Luckily I had that fixed for free by a relative that works in an auto body shop. No problems with that since the fix. The leather interior is not holding up well on the driver's seat and door handles are peeling. Service ESC light appears frequently. I would like to say that I am good about taking my car in for regular service when car indicates it is time and use synthetic mix oil. High octane gas.
Overall I, will continue to drive my Malibu once the transmission is replaced but have not been happy with the design of the mechanical engineering of the car due to not having dipstick to check transmission fluid, no fuel filter and high cost to change headlights. I will drive this car as long as I can because I simply cannot afford a new car at this time but I will not buy a Chevrolet in the future. Not even sure who makes a good affordable midsized car anymore.
Disappointed because I really wanted to buy only American car. Especially when purchased back in 2010 right after all the car manufacturer's closing. I thought I was doing the patriotic thing at the time and "WAS" proud of the Chevy emblem. I could probably name a few more minor issues but I'm an easy going kind of person and never worried too much about the small stuff but when things become a danger or cost working class Americans more money than its worth I must speak up. Shame on GMC.

After fixing, it ran fine for a while then it started having many, many minor issues. Tire rod, new tires (after already having new tires) ball joints, lots of electrical issues from the front to back. It is now October of 2016 and I have yet had a break on this car. Now, there's oil leaks and possible transmission fluid leak on top of the transmission going bad due to the symptoms.
Due to the past of this car, the transmission was replaced back in 2014 so if it's not the transmission fluid leaking, how could the transmission already giving out. I'm stressed upon measures. I've never had this many car issues or driven a car period that is in this kind of condition. Every model Chevy Malibu should be completely taken off the market until the issues are fixed. I was on the highway with my children on Saturday 9/10/16, when my 2009 Malibu went from 70 to 20 in seconds, complete loss of power, and my steering became difficult I was almost hit by a semi that swerved into another lane to avoid hitting me as I tried to get to side of the interstate. I was so shaken and upset my car had no power when pushing down on gas pedal. It started shaking violently, I turned it off and gained composure. Got out, check all my fluids which were good. Nothing overheating. Fan, everything had kicked on as it should, my lights at the time of incident started chiming and a service ESC came on .
I turned vehicle back on and lights were then off, and I was able to make it to the next exit with continued loss of power by continuing down the side of highway. I got off and pulled in to a S&S where he came out. An 11 Codes had popped up. He advised this car had recalls, and some complaints about issues I just experienced, and advised me to park it and get it to a dealership. Imagine if we had been hit and killed. Would my family had even know that this car malfunctioned at 70 and caused it? UPSET MOM.

Transmission is shot!!! So, the trans shop said $3,400! I still owe $7,000! What a pain! I wish I had known this was the a lemon for transmissions just like the Chrysler Town & Country! Recurring issues, possibly transmission? Purchased vehicle new and have had it back to three different dealerships for same problem within the past several months...none of which can replicate (except one) or properly diagnose. When you put the car into park and shut off the engine, a message appears that the vehicle is not in park. Have to restart the engine, put the transmission in gear, back in park and shut off again, occasionally several times. Dealership service departments put vehicle on diagnostics with no results, each at approximately $60/visit. GETTING OLD and extremely frustrating that they can't find the problem. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Most recent issue is the brake signal light on the dashboard...so far this has been a one-time occurrence, but the dealership wasn't able to replicate THIS trouble light either. UGH!!!

My heart sank as I read some of the comments showing what was needed to fix it and then, of course the cost. Even the low end numbers on some of the comments for price were still very high. I was hoping for a miracle but I felt like I already knew before the dealership called back what it would be. Sure enough, as Jason ** called back, he told me about the "35R wave plate" and that the transmission would have to be disassembled. He estimated a cost of around $3800 but said that they would only know the actual number when they got it taken apart.
I understand the risk undertaken when you purchase a vehicle new or used. I understand there are going to be certain things in life that cannot be controlled by a dealership or a car company. There are certain things, however, that is a universal understanding (or should be) between a car company and their customers. One of these is the transmission. We did buy the car used but it only had a few thousand miles on it, and it was in the same year it was built. We bought it from a Chevy dealership (Jim Glover Chevrolet in Tulsa). We take care of our vehicles. We remain up to date on servicing and our cars are never driven in a reckless or dangerous manner. Over the course of six years we have driven it around 60,000 miles. It has either been in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Joplin, Missouri or Oklahoma City for the duration of our ownership. We have made about 5 family trips in that time where it was driven over 2+ hours.
I do not consider the 70,000 miles it has on it now to be worthy of a broken 35R wave plate or anything else in the transmission. I felt a bit naive reading over the comments related to this model of vehicle apparently dating all the way back to 2000. Through the years, my wife and I have developed a bit of blind trust for Chevrolet. Both of our families had Chevrolets growing up. Our friends had Chevrolets growing up. It was quite natural when we came together that the cars in our family would also be Chevrolet. I have to tell you, had I previously known about these issues you probably would not be receiving this email from me today because I never would have bought the Malibu to begin with.
The worst part is for me, and mostly everyone else with the same problems, is that there was absolutely no warning. Thursday the 18th. Fine. Morning of Friday the 19th. Fine. Coming home, for the first time since I've had it, the car scared me. By this evening, I have around a $4,000 problem. Needless to say, I think this should be a recall issue. Seeing the cars I grew up with go for 250,000 + miles without a transmission issue and this 2010 cannot make it to 70,000 without having to be replaced leaves me scratching my head.

I have also replaced the thermostat 10 times. The fuel pump as well as the steering column twice. Other things I've replaced has been the timing belt and the water pump as well as several sensors.
It was in the shop last week all week because It says "ESC off, service ESC, service traction" as well as the engine light. I've literally had my car in the shop more than 24 times in 18 months. I stress because how am I supposed to make a $400 car payment a month as well as garage payments to get my car fixed. I still owe like $8,000 on this car. I purchased a chevy Malibu ltz 2010 in 2013 - the car only had 30000 miles. I faithfully have done maintenance on this car and currently have 124000 miles on the vehicle. I had not wanted to purchase this vehicle due to the problems I had with a 2001 Malibu that we had to replace the engine at 65000 miles then a year later start replacing very large expensive parts all over again. It was finally thought it was the dexcool in which we had flushed out and different fluid put in - never had a problem again but GM would do nothing. So I was very hesitant about purchasing this vehicle. But I was assured GM had changed and that I had 100000 mile warranty.
I have lights that have come on esc traction list power steering on the highway all of which I was told were not on a recall list at least not my model or year. Now lights are off and have been for some time but I get a letter after 2 years that they have extended warranty to 120000 miles if it should occur - hmmmm car just turned 124000 miles. Other things that have occurred windshield wiper trans went during a heavy rainstorm on the freeway 485.00. The following week my actual transmission went at 114000, 3595.00. Now my check engine light is on again and it is thought to be my timing chain - will have diagnostic test on Thursday.
I have had more problems and complaints on this vehicle but won't go into it. I moved from the Detroit area and 95% of the resident in my neighborhood drive a Honda or Toyota. The mechanics I have dealt with tell me when a customer asks what vehicle they recommend - they tell them Honda, Toyota reason being they don't see them. I still owe on this car and can't get rid of it just yet although I am now probably looking more in repairs than I owe. I bought a 2013 new from Pop's Chevy in Prestonsburg KY. The car did very well until about 52,000 miles. At this time the car would stop running while in motion. The first time this happened I was going about 65mph down the highway. I took it to the dealer and was treated like I was crazy. I had this car at the dealers about everyday. The car was hooked to a computer for diagnostic and no codes were found. Finally they told me that my timing chain needed to be replaced. The work was done and I got my car back. Drove home and then to work out in the field (I work 22 counties) all the coolant leaks out. Had to be towed back to the dealer. They stated that they had creaked the coolant when fixing the motor. They fixed it and gave back.
The same thing happened the next day. I took it to a garage on the way to work. They changed the clamps (98 cents) for the hoses and fixed it. Now all the dash lights will go on and off. If I give a signal the headlight will go off. Turn on the wipers and the engine stops. No power steering or brakes. The car will eject the CD and suck it up and all lights flash. The traction control will kick in and jerk the car to a stop while I am accelerating. Took back to deal as this has been a recurring problem. I am told they don't have time for me. Took to private mechanic and he could not find a problem either. Made an educated guess and replaced the body control module. Problems ended but now are starting again. Was taking my child to a med appointment in another state when all lights started to flash. I stopped for gas and after I restarted the car the problems stopped. This is a very dangerous problem that Chevy needs to address before someone is killed.

I purchased a 2008 Chevy Malibu Cruise Lt2. The car is a piece of crap!!! I really had faith in Chevy though GM is a mess. My car was sent to mechanic for transmission problems, at which GM had just sent out a bulletin for that very problem. After arguing with four different reps, my car was scheduled for an appointment with the dealership. I was told to call back after diagnosis and I would then get help to repair my car if it was damaged to the wave plate breaking in my transmission. My vehicle had 13 different codes in reference to my transmission all due to the clutch rocket wave plate cracking. This problem GM was well aware of that being the reason for them offering an extended warranty to their customers as though they claimed. In my case they say that I was over my the mileage for the warranty to cover my transmission repairs.
After arguing with them for a week I gave up. Lo and behold I look in my email and there was a message from Mary an advisor supervisor. Like trying to reach her is impossible. Funny to me how such a big company can be so rude and very disrespectful to their customers. They don't see it as disrespect. It is very disrespectful to take someone's hard earned money on a false pretense. They say they value their customers and strive for the best services. Not true at all. You can't get anywhere with their customer service representatives. They act like they bought the car for me and I am giving them a problem. I asked to speak to manager, was denied that. I called back and asked for claims dept and was told they didn't have one. Called right back, talked to another rep and only asked for claims dept number and 800-888-0164 was given to me. Called them and was told nothing could be done unless there was injury to my persons.
I explained that I did have a nervous breakdown and anxiety attack they still don't care. Chevy GMC is absolutely a flute they care nothing about their customers. They love our money though. I'm not going to stop until they repair my car. I refuse to pay out of pocket expenses and a car payment for damage that the company was well aware of. With all the money invested in that company from their customers, there should be no way in the world them folks shall not be responsible to fix customer's vehicles. Honestly that's what they pay insurance for. Sad, sad, sad how innocent people try to do their best to provide for themselves and family only to get robbed by companies like GM. A car is a necessity to those who go out and purchase them.
School, job, church, grocery shopping and anything else I may need transportation for is why I pay a car payment that is not even worth me paying. I would not ever purchase a Chevy key chain that alone with another car. Chevy is not where it's at. GM no good. Only thieves and it's sad. Ongoing Safety Issue on 2010 Chevy Malibu -- The Service Esc and Traction Control Light continues to come on. Despite a Recall (#13036) for this very problem. The brake lights malfunctions and it is difficult to move the gear shifter out of park. My 2010 Chevy Malibu was serviced for this problem in July 2011. September 2012, August 2013, September 2014. In February 2016, this light came on for the fifth time in 5 years. The dealer wanted to charge me around $500. I told them I had contacted GM about this ongoing safety issue. I picked up my car and declined service. The light was no longer on, because they cleared the fault code.
About 2 weeks later the Service ESC Traction Control Light was on again. At night I could see clearly that my brake lights were illuminated even when I wasn't applying the brakes. At this point, I decided to take it to another authorized GM dealer, since my previous authorized GM dealer could not fix my problem. In February 2016, I was told by the GM Senior Advisor that was assigned to my case that if the Service ESC Traction Control Light came on again I would be reimbursed by GM for the repair.
On Friday, April 8, 2016 I took my car to the new dealer. The Service ESC Traction Control Light was on. The technician checked my car for 30-45 minutes, while I waited in their lounge. The technician told me that there was so many codes in the history that he could not diagnose my problem. He said they would have to put their hands on it and for me to bring my car back on Monday, April 11, 2016. I brought it back on Monday, the Service ESC Traction Control Light was no longer on. The following day, the service department called me and said it was going to cost me $1300 to repair my car. I told them not to do anything until I spoke with my GM Senior Advisor because they had told me in February that GM would reimburse me.
I was in contact with GM 2 or 3 times throughout the week. I also went by and spoke to the service manager in person and ask for a copy of my estimate for $1300. He gave me a copy of the estimate but it was not an itemized list. It had a price of $861.02 and a price of $527.38, total $1388.90. It did not tell me what these prices were for. No parts were listed. The service manager spoke to me twice about my cost being $1388.90. He said he would run the calculator and see if he could get any financial assistance. He called me on Wednesday and said GM would pay part and I would pay over $500. I told him I appreciated him running the calculator but I was going to hold GM to their word that they would reimburse me.
On Thursday the GM Senior Advisor called me, and after looking through the notes from February she saw where GM had told me they would reimburse me. She immediately called the Service Manager at the dealership to tell him. Within about 10 or 15 minutes I got a call that I was not expecting. The service manager called to tell me to come pick up my car. He said, he did not know what was wrong with it and since the light was not on anymore he couldn't do anything with it.
All week they had wanted to charge me $1300 for the repair, but when they learned that GM was going to reimburse me the dealer decides that he doesn't know what is wrong with my car and wants me to come pick it up. I should not buy out any money on this repair because this is an ongoing problem from the beginning. GM doesn't know what is causing the brake lights to malfunction or all the other problems that is listed in this recall #13036.

It's a given that headlamps will eventually burn out, just like any other light bulb. Light bulb replacement should be easy enough for anyone to change, just like in one's home. So why in the hell would Chevy design a car that you would need to remove the Front bumper just to change the headlamp? So now, the everyday person just can't reach in and change their bulb. They need to jack the car up a bit, get specialty tools (like torque bits) remove the bumper, remove the headlamp housing then replace the bulb. OR they can have it done from $100 to $250 at a mechanic's store. A bulb costs $20. How STUPID is this? The next time I buy a vehicle, this will be the first thing that I check. I have had my Malibu for about 2 years. When I was driving my kids to school when coming off a stop light and trying to make right hand turn we heard a loud noise from the front. When I stepped in the gas no acceleration. All of my warranties were up and the extended by 2 weeks. So I called and I complained to the dealership and to GM. GM had my car towed for free and diagnostics done after sitting in my driveway for 2 weeks coz the dealership was busy.
The dealership found 2 history codes which were no longer showing bad. The computer reset itself and it was running. They were the p0716 and p0717 transmission codes. But since no duplication of my issue could be found they said it was in tip top running shape. My car had 62,300 miles on it. Shouldn't have tranny issues. So 2 weeks later with my daughter in the car making a left hand turn the car jerks violently 2 times and then no acceleration. I frantically call the dealership. They did not call back so I called GM. I also filed complaints with both attorney generals in michigan and new york.
I will say GM was great. They paid for most of the 3100$ transmission repair and the dealership knowing they made a huge mistake paid an additional $500. Though I don't think they fixed it right. I purchased a new Chevy Malibu in 2007. It ran good with no issues until 2011. That is when the frustration began. I had people telling me my brake lights were on continuously. I took the car to a dealership to have the repairs done and paid a few hundred dollars for the brake switch to be replaced. 3 months later, the same thing happened again. I skipped the dealership this time and went to a private mechanic who, once again put on a new brake switch. Again a few months later the brake lights started acting up again. The problem was they come on and remain on until you push the brake pedal and then the lights go off. By the third time I started to research this problem and came to find out this is a common problem, however there was no recall. I reached out to Chevy directly who were of no use. I was on my own because there was no recall. I again took my car to a local dealership and they repaired it by adding some grease to a wire.
Finally I received a recall in 2014 and had the issue repaired, or so I thought. Now it is a year later and the brakes are acting up again. I took the car to the dealership again thinking this was still related to the recall only to have them tell me that I am on my own. This issue is separate from the recall and will cost me 500.00 for repairs. I am having the exact same issue I have been having since 2011 and Chevy is not willing to make this right. Tell me how this can be continuously happening for 5 years even after so called repairs? I have never seen this brake light problem on any other car I have had. Needless to say repairs will not be done by the dealership. Chevy will not be getting any more of my money. They do not stand behind their vehicles.

I had my for three years now. It's a 2011 Chevy Malibu - never had problems with my transmission before. Now out of nowhere it started slipping in and of the 6 gear and the 2nd and 3rd gear does not work. I received a letter base on the Eps but it's not a recall on that particular part, the recall is for the seatbelt issue is concerned. But I just found it funny how the cars are built especially the Malibu 2011. There's no way to check your transmission fluid - no dipstick. There's also not a way to change or accessing my third brake light. Without taking the car apart to access it.
I had problems with my third brake light. The electric sensors system that has to do with that was under recall last year or two. But it's seems like it's always something. But I don't see why to get my diagnostics done on my car is going to cost me 118 dollars at Chevy. Just to have it looked at but I know for a fact that it needs work. So depending upon that will determine if it's more or less.
The one shop we had the car looked at Aamco was trying to charge 2000 dollars to get for a new transmission. But to remind you that I just started having problems with the gears shifting far as my 2nd and 3rd gear and going in and out of the 6 gear. I found it dangerous and hard to believe that you can't change or check your transmission fluid. It's terrible there haven't been any recalls on the transmission. Better yet the way things the whole under recall to check and fix everything.
With all of the complaints on here and everywhere else, I been seeing - it really is a shame to see where our money, time and stress is going. Not to mention I thought my battery would be under warranty, no recalls on it either - I had to pay for a new battery and get the red cord to replace the last one. Pep Boys tried to charge me 500 dollars. So I only ended up spending 300 dollars instead through a mechanic from someone I'm good friends with. This really make you think twice before buying a new car and new model cars.

I was told it was the torque converter by the shop foreman as he drove it and seen the RPM's move as we were sitting still. They said on that issue they would torque it, but it continued and then popping sounds from right front end always was there. The Chevy said they could not make it do it. Same issue on 2015 on the popping sound. Chevy service said they couldn't make it do it and said they can't figure it out. I am really sick of spending time on nothing getting done and I can't help they cannot figure the issue out with popping.
Other people who have rode in my car hears it as well. I just want to trade it NOT for a Chevy Malibu. I have driven Courtesy cars, such as Cruze and Impala. No popping sounds from either of those. What is the issue? I feel with a warranty it's useless and even if I use in 2 years my purchased extension it will be the same. Trust me I want out of the Malibu. I feel embarrassed and not welcomed when I take my new car in for these issues. Though service advisors are nice, the fact is nothing can be found or fixed. I guess if it pops to point I crash and live maybe a recall will be in effect. Let's hope I do not crash because they will say it was my fault.
The paint on my new Malibu is an issue as well. Now they tell me I need to file an insurance claim with my own insurance. This was like this when I purchased it. The clear coat is peeling away from my paint - I have red Butte. I told the Courtesy person who followed up with me after I did my first survey the detail department left spots all over the car and did a lousy job on cleaning the car and left windshield streaked to point it looked like a dry wet wash rag marks all over windshield. In the winter of 2014 I didn't seem to have the same problem that I had during the summer. However during the summer of 2015 I am having the same issue on a more regular almost daily basis. This is significant because I park at a park-and-ride and as I am approaching my vehicle I use the remote to unlock the car so that I can enter quickly and safely. Unfortunately the lock does not unlock. At times using the key doesn't even unlock the driver's door.
Recently I started to notice that the rear driver side door is also starting to have a problem. There were two occasions where I was actually in the car and put it in park and try to open the door and the door would not open. I live in Houston and the summers are quite hot so of course I panicked when even pulling up the lock did not open the door. My concern is that at some point I may be in a serious situation where I need to open the door quickly and the door will fail to open. After a scan it was confirmed - issue with the transmission. The transmission shop said it's the same plate that broke in the 08, 09 recall lawsuit. The shop also told me there is a service bulletin for 10, 11 models having this plate issue as well. My power train was up in December 2014 so I couldn't get it any coverage from that.

A couple of months later, I received a recall letter in the mail regarding my break light. I immediately took my vehicle in for service again and constantly told, "these things happen".
A few months passed and I began to hear a bubbling sound coming from underneath the hood and the check engine light on. I took my vehicle in once again and was told the cylinoids needed replacing. Problem solved so I thought. The noise persisted and every time I checked the coolant reservoir, coolant was leaking out. Another trip to the dealership and this time Chevrolet kept my car for over a week. I had to rent a car and at the end of it all was improperly charged for it after Chevrolet told me they would take care of it. Chevrolet had to replace the transmission and coolant reservoir. I have had my vehicle for 3 years and all of this happened. I am fed up! Now there is a recall on the seat belts. I purchased my 09 Malibu in 2010 as a graduation gift to myself. I loved the car and the look. However, after driving it off the lot, I encountered many issues. The headlight went out, locks were going up and down on its own, the dome light in the vehicle was malfunctioning, Bluetooth would not stay connected, the auto dimmer and dash lights would go in and out. Needless to say, the first few months of having the vehicle I had several repairs, all of which were under warranty. As soon as the vehicle hit the 60k mile marker, putting it slightly out of warranty, the vehicle started having issues staying straight, bucking forward, wobbly wheels, etc. Instinctively, I thought I needed new tires, alignment, and possibly balancing.
After purchasing these items on four different occasions with over 20 alignments, the issue has not been resolved. The first few days the car seems to drive better but then it reverts back to the unpredictable steering and wobbly feel. Because the car has 18" rims, low profile tires are required and these are very expensive. In addition, my headlight consistently goes out. In the past I would simply purchase a light bulb and put it in myself, but the construction of the car calls for the bumper to be removed in order to replace the bulb. This cost is roughly $300.00 each time. I truly love this car but it feels unsafe and at this point pretty unreliable. If GM is not able to issue the proper recalls for these issues, I am sorry to say that I will have to stray away from GM vehicles in the future.

I have a 2011 Malibu that's beginning to give me serious issues. Like most of the customers, my car's engine slowed light came on, service traction, and esc. I called the company who sent a tow truck to take the car to a dealer. The dealer calls me within 2 hours after the car arrives there and says he found the problem. It's a bad accelerator and the part is going to cost 123$ and I would have to pay for it out of pocket because like most of you, it's not covered under my warranty. Two hours of labor I would also have to pay for. Total 315$, I'm sadly disappointed. Thank God I was less than 1/2 of a mile from home.

Let's start by saying I am a car guy, not just a car guy but a Chevy guy. I have built many a old Chevy and I'm proud to say those are still on the road. But this 2009 malibu lt 3.6 -6 speed, purchased new off the lot, has been a problem since the first oil change. Interior trim began to sag, no longer aligning after only 1000 miles. The dual exhaust, which is factory, also became tweaked and sat lower on one side and out to the other. Exterior panels started popping out, erasing the clean lines for which first drew me to the car. Having a bumper to bumper warranty and a extended warranty I brought it in for repairs. They couldn't realign the interior trim so they adjusted the entire door to attempt to correct problem, which now distorted the chrome and fit of the doors to each other and the rest of car. Best they could do they said.
They couldn't fix the exhaust themselves so they sent it to a local muffler shop. It was close but not a perfect fit as a new car should be. They couldn't explain the plastic bumper popping off but assured me it was ok to just push back in by hand. I took it all with a grain of salt, still proud of my new Chevy even with its flaws. Since then the turn signals have stopped working, broken internals in the steering column. Door locks stopped operating, fried actuators. Axel seals leaking, struts gone out, head light connectors corroded causing them to melt but luckily not catch fire, multiple turn signal and brake lamp failures. A wind shield that is separating, yes actually coming apart, the glue that makes it safety glass is failing and creating visual obstructions. This was all before the warranty was expired. Some Chevy covered, most they didn't, all of it an argument as to whether or not it was warrantied.
Now my car is just out of warranty and at 60,502 miles the transmission has gone out requiring a compete rebuild. I am lucky to have a honest trans shop nearby that can rebuild it for 1600$ which is a steal, but is still something I shouldn't be replacing/rebuilding at such low mileage. When I contacted GM about the problem all they would do is give me directions to the nearest dealer for repairs, but the car is out of warranty so it will not be covered. I love my Chevy but not the customer service or reliability of this vehicle. I bought this car because of its safety ratings as I was a new father at the time of purchase and wanted my families safety to come first.
If I buy another GM product it will be another classic as I expect them to need constant TLC, but NEVER another new GM car or truck. I wish I had never picked this lemon and as soon as it's out of the shop, it is getting traded in for a more reliable import. It's your own fault GM, build a better vehicle and quit using inferior, outsourced parts in your product.

The car would tick constantly as if the flashers were on... all the time.... tick, tick, tick, tick.... the ticking finally went away because the blinkers no longer work. The starter went out, the radiator blew, I replaced the hose along with he radiator and now the fluid level light won't go off but it's full.... Check engine light comes on every other day. Fuel pump now needs replaced and was quoted $400 by my mechanic. That's completely doable... but they said the faulty wiring and ignition issue (key comes straight out even when driving) is a fire hazard and they won't fix the fuel pump until it's taken care of.
I have my car towed to Henderson Chevrolet in Nevada, horrible... HORRIBLE customer service by the way. Nobody greeted me, nobody met the tow truck driver... I walked in the service door and waited a good 5 minutes before finally asking if someone could help me. The man acted like I was inconveniencing him. I know the 2000 Malibu had recalls to the issues making my car a fire hazard. They said my VIN wasn't included in the recall. Then quoted me $850 for a new fuel pump. I walked out and called GM. They gave me the run around, then said my car was too old with 138,000 miles and they won't dump any money into it. Then asked if I would consider buying a new car.... ** you.... and no thanks.
I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another GM vehicle. My other car is a Honda and their customer service is impeccable. The service department at the local dealership (across the street from Chevy) has been working on a check engine light issue for 2 weeks for me. They comp'd a rental car and aren't gouging me on parts or labor. I was considering a Chevy Sonic to replace my Malibu when I pay off my Honda next year... but that's not even a thought anymore. I won't buy a Chevy, my parents won't, my siblings, and my children. Never again. From a family who have owned GM Suburbans, Cavaliers, Avalanches, and this carp of metal called a Malibu. It's a shame since my employer is a partner with them, too, but I'll pay retail for good customer service.

I bought a 2003 Malibu with less than 70k miles on it for my daughter recently from a well established new car dealer (it was a trade in model). As I've been having another car I own there, serviced there for years, and also bought another used car previously from them, I felt I could trust them. I'm blaming the dealership (who is Chevy/Honda dealership), they should have known of this chronic, well documented issue I've since learned of after doing an internet search.
After having sold so many of these models over the years they could not have been blind to the electronic issues with these 1998-2004 Malibu. I'm sure they sold many brought back in for continual problems. The electronics issues started almost immediately with the door locks not working, lights blowing out, window won't go up now, etc, etc. I've discovered from research it's due largely to a faulty anti-theft device and ignition issues (we noticed that ignition switch seems loose), that have actually caused the vehicle to DIE while people are going down the road at 65 miles per hour, etc. etc. etc.
I'm now "negotiating" with the dealership as of today to fix this or take the car back! No, there was no warranty. Still, I was successful in the 80's in getting my money back for a used lemon Dodge Van I bought from a used car dealer after having to replace a faulty engine gasket 3 times in 6 months and getting independent (2) mechanics written testimony that the engine was basically "warped" and the gaskets would not hold in place. I've spent so much money at this new car dealership over the past few years and they HAD TO KNOW this car had electrical issues since they sell Chevy's! We've only had the car for 2 months!
I am not willing to dump hundreds if not thousands into this lemon and will take them to small claims court if need be showing all the documentation found on the internet. I know I'm not likely to win, but this is a smaller town and people usually ask for recommendations for a dealership here. I'll have my recommendation and experience to share.

I just bought my 2011 Chevy Malibu on October 31, 2014 with 74k miles. Everything was great then the weather got extremely cold and we got pounded with snow and now the problems. In Dec while driving down the road my car dings 3 times then flashes service traction control, engine reduced power. Yeah no kidding, went from 65 mph down to 10mph even with pedal to the floor it would not gain speed. Pulled over turned off car. When turning it back on it was still in reduced power, couldn't drive it. Shut it back off, waited 10 min ,started it up and could go again but not for long.
Took to dealer and he said it was my tires cause the tread was starting to wear down. Great so I go buy 4 new tires and figure let's just get the oil change. It says I'm at 45% oil life. There is 1500.00 out of pocket and car runs great drive to clarion go out to eat, shop, come home, park my car. In the morning go start car to warm up to take kids to school, finish getting dressed, walk outside, car sounds like it's about to blow. Service traction control, service esc, esc off and engine reduced power all flashing on dash. ** off car wait 10 min which puts everyone running late. Restart car and we are off. Get to end of driveway and here we go again. A 10 min drive turned into a 45 min.
Took car, get codes misfire, buy new spark plugs and wires, replace them. Everything great so we thought. Later that day again my car does it. I'm out of town and have to get home in time for kids to get home from school. I'm a single mother. 4 hrs, 52 shut off and restarts, 2 school calls, 3 relatives. I'm home! Go to dealer, get codes throttle position sensor! Get estimate 600$ - 800$. Out of pocket of course cause the power train warranty does not cover sensors!
Really I have 78k miles with a 5 year 100k mile warranty and it's not covered. Oh and did I mention I'm a single mother who lost her job. And now I have a 3 month old car I got because I had a Saturn ion that shut off all the time while driving and almost got my kids and I killed. I buy this car just to have the same stuff happen and it's not a recall and not covered. Are you kidding!
In 2 years I've have my first 2 Chevy cars and I can say this for sure NEVER AGAIN! If I could trade this car off it would be gone today but I'm stuck making the 250 car payments and it doesn't even run. I can't afford to fix it because I don't work anymore so too unreliable vehicle! So thank you GM! Now not only do I have a crap car, my kids can't get to school because of where we live, I also lost my job. Maybe it wouldn't hurt for you to own up to this issue with your GM products and replace them or maybe you should have to support all the families you screwed over by selling junk and refusing to make things right! After all had you fixed the first car I wouldn't have ever ended up with this one and I'd still be able to support my family of 4. And yes that's myself and 3 kids who are all under 12.

I bought this car (2011 Chevy Malibu) brand new. During test drive I noticed it sounded off, a weird high pitch noise from engine. Dealer insisted it was "normal for a 4 cylinder", which is code for "you're a woman and we think you don't know any better". But my options were limited on what I could purchase and it came with a warranty so I took it.
From day one I complained to dealer that it felt like transmission was off, it struggled to change gears and revved when it shouldn't, etc etc. Less than a year later, we were driving uphill, over train tracks and BOOM the car just died- on the train tracks with my kids in the car. Wouldn't drive. Worked in reverse for a moment and then nothing. Had to tow it 150 miles home and turns out the transmission was gone. Dealer said something about the solenoid being burnt out.
I did my research and saw this car had many transmission problems, insisted the dealer replace the entire thing. Two months later, the roof started leaking. Was told some BS line about "the sun roof drains being blocked and they need to be cleaned out once and a while". My reply "oh really, because this car is not even a year old, I've owned many cars with sun roofs before and NEVER had this problem". Issue was fixed.
Four months after that, doors weren't aligned and wouldn't close properly. Dealer told me the hinges were bad, and it would be an out of pocket cost for me to the tune of $400 per door. My reply "F that" and I fixed it myself. Now, last summer, the car has 48,000 miles on it at this point, there's an awful sound when turning corners and stopping. I figure it's something with the suspension. I bring it in to dealer three times and they say they can't replicate the problem. I take them driving with me and all of a sudden they can hear it, and say it's the struts and they'll fix it free of charge.
A couple of weeks after that the car is back in the shop for a recall. Now today, 53,000 miles on it and all of a sudden we get an awful shuddering feeling, engine struggles and the dash displays "engine service-traction". The car was just in the shop yesterday for routine maintenance and now all of a sudden there's a problem?
I do some research and of course it isn't covered by warranty! All I want is this lemon to go away. I've owned Chevy and GM cars my entire life and have had no problems before this horrible car. I traded in a gorgeous brand new Camaro for this POS because I unexpectedly needed a kid-friendly car and it has been nothing but problem after problem. I will never buy a Malibu again.

I have had to have the brake lights replaced twice and my tire sensors have malfunctioned several times but this is minor compared to this week's experience. I was on my way home from work and right before entering onto the interstate my Malibu lost power in the middle of the intersection. Cars had to swerve to avoid hitting me. An error messages of 'Power Steering and Service ESC' flashed. I waited for 5 mins, turned the car back on and all the messages were cleared and the vehicle was again operable.
I googled the issue for more information and found out that GM has an open recall on my year and model for this problem. I instantly felt relieved however this relief was short lived. I placed a call to GM for further info on how to handle this issue. The rep ran my VIN number and informed me that while this is a known issue for my make, model and year vehicle, my VIN does not fall in the recall list. I was and still am infuriated.
I feel betrayed by GM as a consumer and I feel like my safety and the safety of my newborn child is not a priority for this company nor is proper customer service. The rep told me I would have to pay for repairs out of pocket and she would happily refer me to a dealership. Unsatisfied with this answer I called back the next day and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was intercepted by another rep who asked me what the problem was. I explained it to her and her response, "Well a supervisor is just going to tell you the same thing. We don't decide what gets recalled so you just will have to pay out of pocket." This is unacceptable from a company and customer service standpoint. I would strongly advise anyone in the market for a vehicle to not spend their money with GM.

Only after four additional tries with turning engine back on and putting in park that the key released. The process had to be repeated when I arrived home. The key was stuck again. Noticed burning smell and some jerking while driving 65. I called service department to be seen tomorrow but only two technicians are scheduled to work Dec 27th so I have to wait til Monday. I have a 2008 Chevy Malibu with about 82k miles on it that has many problems. My lamp lights started flashing then my engine light came on and has stayed on. Chevy dealership wants to charge $125.00 to check the engine. The car locks do not work, the automatic start stopped working when all of the indicators flashed. The seat warmer does not work and the biggest problem is that the gears are sluggish from 1st to 2nd. When I stop the car and accelerate to make the car drive is it so sluggish that I have almost been in two accidents. It stays in 1st gear far too long but then drives okay until I accelerate to about 50 -60 miles per hr range. It seems as though the gear is getting stuck. This a definite safety issue. I had in the shop on a recall two days ago and of course Chevy does not have a recall on this issue and said they have had no complaints about the issue.
I am becoming afraid to drive the car. My guess is that it is a transmission issue. I will never buy another GM vehicle. My first GM vehicle and my last. I thought this car would be my last car purchase. I had the extended warranty on the car but it has recently expired so now I have the expense of trying to get it fixed.

I took the car to the dealer and they couldn't find any problems so they reset my computer. The car was fine until a few weeks ago. I left work to get dinner and the car started her jerking and throwing codes. It said reduced engine power and service traction control. The dealer says it's the transmission. They do the work, I pick it up and it breaks down two days later. It did the same jerking and codes. This time they said throttle body. They fix it and I drive off then last Friday it breaks down yet again. Same problems. But it's my battery. I had no issues with my battery but they insisted it was dead. I got a battery and again two days later it's back in the shop. Broke down again with same jerking and saying reduced power. I am so upset. I love my car but this is insane. I didn't purchase car new so I can't claim lemon law. I feel lost.

I bought a brand new Malibu LT2 from what used to be the best Chevy dealer available in the region. Less than 10,000km the car started getting all sorts of dashboard lamps starting from tires monitor to the engine light!! I contacted the dealer then, they advised to change the car's battery. After doing that on my account it started coming out again about a month later. Went back to them, they told me I should look for another GM dealer as the dealership has been broken. Went to the other dealer, they got me in, checked the car, they asked me to leave and that they'll fix it. After a couple of weeks in their workshop it came out without any progression!! It has been in and out for the same problem a number of times until they said you have reached the end of your warranty and it's out of our hands!!!
I guess GM has gone to a different level of customers service!! Now they called me back saying that the wiring to the back lamp has a manufacturer problem. When they checked the car again, they insisted they'll do only the wiring to the back lamp that caused me to change the lamp a couple of times while I haven't changed the other side at all. My car has many manufacturer errors which they refuse to do anything about. Hope this get to the right people to know what's going on in their dealerships.

I began to have problems with my power steering. I took the car to several mechanics to have the problem fixed. They all told me that I was having a problem that they could not fix. They said it appeared to have problems with the car's computer and that only a Chevrolet dealer would be able to fix. I then looked up the symptoms online and discovered that several models of the Malibu had been recalled that were experiencing the exact same symptoms that my car displayed. I was amazed! The 2007 Malibu was totally skipped as a part of that recall. However, I had two other recalls pending that were not related to the steering.
When I went to the dealer to have one of the recall repairs, I told the service advisor about my steering problem. He said I would need to contact GM headquarters. I did that. They told me I would receive a phone call from Jim ** in Norcross, GA. I spoke with "Bryan" who told me, "you would need to pay to have a diagnostic." I disagreed since this was apparently a GM problem. After going back and forth about it, he agreed to do a diagnostic and waive the cost. I took my car in on Nov. 3 @ 3:00 pm. They did a diagnostic.
After it was done, Mr. Gerald ** came to me and said, "Your battery is showing low voltage. Right now the battery is dead. You will need to purchase a battery before we can do further diagnostics." He stated, "Well we can jumpstart your car if you can't get a new battery. That will cost you $149.00." At that point I am baffled and totally confused! I'm thinking, how is my battery completely dead. I drove here, and I haven't been having recent battery problems, so why is it that when I bring it here all of a sudden the battery is dead. We went back and forth about that for a few minutes.
I then asked for Bryan. Bryan (a supervisor) came out and gave me a sheet of paper that had no real information about the diagnostic. I then asked him for a copy of the diagnostic stating what they did and what the diagnostic showed. He hesitated, then said he'd make me a copy of the receipt. He went back to his office for about 7-8 minutes and came back with a copy of the invoice. The invoice stated my complaint, but stated nothing about my car except low voltage. After handing me a copy of the invoice, he stated, "Ok we're going to pull your car around." He said nothing about my battery being dead and my needing a jumpstart.
No one else was able to diagnose that my only problem is low voltage? This is a GM problem that needs to be repaired by GM. I will not let this go. Since GM won't own this problem I will have to take it further. I have taken good care of my car. This is the only problem that I continue to have with it. I'm so frustrated! It is also a potentially dangerous condition.

I bought my 2010 Malibu with 32,000 miles used in Dec 2010. It had no issues at that point. 6 months later, go to change the tire, tire monitor split in half. No worries, not a necessity. 1 year later, check engine light. Chevy Dealer says bad gas, charges me nearly $100 to put a $10 gas treatment in. Light goes out for awhile, right before last year's recall part was replaced, light came back on. Thinking it was bad gas, I put a treatment in a full tank. Light intermittently went out and came back on again. Noticed when we pump gas, the gas tank thinks the tank is full and stops nozzle from allowing gas to come out, trigger on nozzle releases. Takes 15 minutes to fill tank. This continues and sometimes does not always happens.
2 months ago, get "Air Bag Service" message. Called Chevy dealer to make appt to install part recall from this year and discuss issues. Says not under warranty, car has 73,000 miles but is not 5 years old and has not reached 100,000 miles. I checked the mpg on my car, average 16mpg city. Meanwhile, I still owe $9000 on this car and I am stuck with 30 more payments. This is utterly the worst car that I have ever owned. Never again will I buy a GM vehicle. That's it! I purchased a 2012 Malibu LT in January of 2012. Since the purchase, I have been to the service department at least 8-12 times for various malfunctions with the car. Last my daughter was driving us home from my mom's house when I heard a loud knocking noise. I looked over and saw the check engine light was on. I immediately called the dealership (whom by the way has been excellent) and they told me to bring the car in asap.
Long story short, they told me that the alternator was gone, the water pump was gone, 2 solenoid switches had to be replaced, 2 generators in the rotors had to be replaced, and there is a recall on the brake lamp. I called GM to inform them that I don't feel safe driving this car let alone my 16-yr-old daughter driving the car. They seemed uninterested in the fact that now I'm still hearing a loud rattling noise coming from under the hood. The car only has 34,778 miles on it. Long story short, after talking to GM back & fourth, they want to extend the warranty on the vehicle as opposed to being proactive and trading me out of the vehicle.
In the event that something else goes wrong with the car and my daughter is driving, they would prefer a million dollar lawsuit rather than just paying the difference to get me out of this vehicle. The service manager at GM suggested that I let my 16-yr ride the bus to and from school. I was insulted and pissed because I brought the car so that my daughter wouldn't endure all of the violence that is occurring in Chicago. Can you say unsatisfied customer but I will NEVER be buying another GM product. I am in touch with an attorney.

Just how many recall notices am I going to received telling me my car is unsafe to drive, but the parts to fix the several issues with the 2005 Malibu Maxx are unavailable? I bought this car new in 2005, and GM was aware of this problem with the .57 ignition, airbags not deploying, etc. for several years now, and this year (2014), I've received several notices that translates to: "We sorry. We know we gambled on no one discovering our lack of manufacturing a safe, dependable, quality vehicle, and it caused at least 13 deaths that we'll admit to, but we don't have the parts to correct the defaults. However, when the parts become available, we will inconveniently schedule an appointment to repair the life-threatening defaults at our cost."
Well big frigging deal. How generous of you! What is the consumer to do if this is the vehicle used in the daily commute and there isn't another available option like public transit or another vehicle? GM could at the least provide (safer) loaners or replace the affected vehicles. This is one of the reasons many American consumers discontinued purchasing American made vehicles several years ago beginning in the eighties in the first place. Just when we thought it was safe to buy American automobiles again, not only is the vehicle unsafe, there's no consumer resolution unless there's injury or death. Well you fooled me once, but never again GM. Not only will I not purchase your vehicles, I will prevent anyone else as well and as you know, 'word of mouth' is the most effective. I want a resolution to this potentially fatal negligence immediately.

I tried one more time and then I smelled something burning so I exited the car. About ten minutes later while waiting for the tow truck I opened the door to get my belongings and black smoke was coming out of my car. The car was towed to a privately owned shop where they found the fuel pump, battery, fuse box in the trunk and the wiring were all burned/melted. The dealership said that they cannot complete diagnostics until they replace the fuse box, wiring and cartridge which will cost $1,500. I have been getting the run around between GM and the dealership. GM said that if the dealership says that is what is due then that is it. I purchased an 08 Chevy Malibu in 2010. It had just 15k miles on it and was practically flawless. It has been a pretty good car, until things started to happen. I keep my car well maintained, even use full synthetic oil every 3k miles.
1.) It seriously lacked in power. I wasn't looking for a sports car, but didn't want to lag when I'm trying to enter the freeway either.
2.) Every time I drove this car on the highway at about 70 miles per hour for longer than a few miles the check engine light would turn on. Turns out the transmission oil pressure solenoid gets stuck at those speeds. Luckily I sprung for the extended warranty so they covered it, but it had to be changed twice in about 3 years.
3.) All 4 of my door lock solenoids went out within the same year. Chevy didn't cover it; luckily, my extended warranty did. Would have cost $180 each. Plus labor.
4.) This last time the camshaft sensor went out, again was covered, but I had to get the car inspected and it failed because the part that they replaced left a pending code in my car's computer. Drove the car 150 miles and waited 3 days and the code is still there. The check engine light is off, there is nothing wrong with the car, but I still can't get it inspected because the computer is taking so long to erase.

Got a "great" deal on this car in late 2010 (i.e. it had been sitting on the lot forever and the dealer wanted to get rid of it). It had less than 30k miles on it at the time and I got it for $13k. I read it had gotten decent reviews, so I took it. First off, the car has ZERO power. It drives like it had a heart attack and forgot to die. I'm not interested in a hot rod, but the lack of power on this vehicle is just shameful.
The keyless entry stopped working a month after I got it. Tried to change the battery and the flimsy little battery bracket broke right off with barely any pressure. Dealership wants a ridiculous amount to replace keyless. Auto parts store a bit less but still almost $100. A few months later, passenger side door locks have to be locked and unlocked manually.
Every time I go around a really steep curve, the ESC traction warning comes up and my suspension does this weird rapid shaky thing for a second or two. Then the steering screwed up. I would be driving along and the steering wheel would start doing this weird thing where it would 'twitch' and vibrate, making the steering lock up or jerk to the side for a few seconds. Thankfully, that was replaced free of charge. The front suspension has always made weird knocking and squeaking noises. I've driven Hondas for years with barely any problems. This was my first Chevy.
