I purchased a 2001 Chev Impala in 2001 and just had to have a remanufactured engine and water pump installed costing me $4,900.+ The car only had 62,000 original miles. I am not hard on my cars therefore, was shocked when I was told my engine was shot. Ever since I bought the car the Check Water Level Coolant light would come on during long road trips of an hour or more. I would need to fill the resevoir that normally would never need to be filled. Before the 5 year warranty was up we took it in to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. As time progressed the light was coming on more and more. Finally, my car started making pinging noises and leaking water mixed with oil. We took it to a local car repair and paid $150. and they couldn't find anything wrong. My husband noticed the water/oil leaking over the head gasket and we took it the dealership and they called with the shocking news that the engine was shot. They knew right away what was wrong. Apparrently, this is quite common with these new 3.4 liter engines. We couldn't even order a new engine from the manufacturer because they stopped making them because they had an abundance of remanufactured ones. This isn't the first Chev that I've had problems with. My 1991 Chev Camaro was a lemon too. It didn't even have 90,000 miles and the crank shaft went out on that, not once but twice. I had to have that engine rebuilt the second time. I will never ever buy another Chevrolet product again. Buyers beware!

This is reguarding your 2002 montecarlo ss. Ive been doing alot of research on the steering stabilizer from the clinking noise they make when turn and there have been many complaints on this issue yet GM is not fixing the problem. My car to is having this issue. The cost to fix this problem should not be the car owners responsibility as this has been a problem and they just now after our bumper to bumper is expired telling us what the problem is. The dealership also knows that there has been many complaints about this problem but GM is refusing to honor this, this should be a recall as there are many cars with this issue. I do not know where else to send my issue or complaint to.

As you cited below the same happened to me last night (6/8/07) with my 2003 Chevy Impala (74000 miles) when driving home at dusk I turned my hi beams on and ...Nothing no headlights at all! It was only by holding the switch all the way back that the high beams would operate to get me home. Now I was lucky being older and in the Automotive business (after-market for 30 years) but what if I were driving on the highway at high speeds, or worse if one of my daughters or wife were driving the results could be catastrophic! This switch should have been designed to default to at least a low beam position to allow the driver to drive safely. This is one that needs to be recalled! Chevrolet Impala Investigation Advertisement Click to learn more... May 25, 2006 The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has notified General Motors that a preliminary investigation is underway of the Chevrolet Impala to determine if consumer complaints describing headlight failure with the Impala justify a recall of the vehicle. The Office of Defect Investigation at NHTSA has received 15 complaints claiming that the headlights on Impalas failed without warning while the cars were operating. Some consumers reported to NHTSA that they were able to restore the headlights by manipulating a malfunction switch on the Impala steering wheel.

I have a 2002 Chevy Impala - for the last year and a half, there's a knocking sound in the front end when making turns or driving over bumps in the road. Firestone thought it was the Rack and Pinion and we paid to replace it. Three months later, the problem was back. Firestone said GM had a fix because it's an issue with the intermediate steering shaft that they know exists but have no solution for. That fix lasted three months. They did it again and it lasted another three months. I contacted GM customer service and was told that GM now recommends having the steering shafted removed and lubricated every three months - that it is now considered a maintenance issue. I asked them that if it was a maintenance issue, why isn't it printed anywhere in the car's manuals and why is it just for this model? Their maintenance issue costs $100 each time and is not guaranteed to last more than three months.

ConsumerAffairs.Com has received complaints about the problems with GM antilock brakes since 2002. They have a recall for the trucks and SUV's but I own a 2002 Chevy Impala and am having the same issues with the ABS system on my car, yet they have no recall for it and refuse to return any calls about it. My child, as well as countless other children, ride in these vehicles. What can be done to include the Impalas in this recall?

I'm the 2nd owner of the car and there is no warrenty, so fixing a problem they refuse to acknowledge in the cars is costing us alot of money to fix. My mechanic stated that it would cost over $1,000.00 to fix. This comes right behind an $1,100.00 repair for the intake valves that I was told Impalas are famous for. Well if they are famous for it, why isn't GM stepping up to take care of it????

I have a 2003 Impala that's in the shop right now. There is a problem with the 5th cylinder. The mechanic (it's not at the dealership) told us this is a very common problem with 2003 and 4's. He said he repairs 1 a week and this is small shop. He also said this is something GM should recall but they don't want to eat the loss. It's going to cost $985. I've also had a problem with the steering column and after doing a search on autosite.com see that this is also a very common problem with alot of GM vehicles and it should also be recalled. What we do to make GM recall these problems?

I have just purchased a 2003 Impala due to the fact my other car was having major issues. On the way home from the races the other night in the middle of the country with no street lights, no warning....I lost all lights. Could not see the road. Thank goodness it was a straight stretch and there was no traffic......elsewise would have been a tragic accident. I messed with the light switch a few times and they came back on.......scary drive home!!!!!

I purchased a 2000 Chevy Impala and have had trouble with it starting since I've owned it. The security light comes on and seems to lock up the car. It will not start no matter what you try. If I wait 15 to 30 minutes, it will suddenly turn over. I have brought the car to several cheverlet dealers both in charleston and orlando florida, and have been informed that the problem was fixed. It is still doing the same thing! Today I was told that there is an addtional unit in the car related to the problem and it will cost an additional $650.00 dollars to replace. I have come to find out that i am not the only customer with the problem and as i purchased the vehical at a chevy dealership I believe they knew of the problem and still sold my the vehical preowned.

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala with 56,000 miles. My story is the same as all the rest. I experienced sludge build up in radiator, leaking dexcool antifreeze, intake manifold was leaking coolant. Had to have the radiator flushed this past fall and this week I had to have new intake manifold put in. My mechanic did not put dexcool back in as it ate away at the gasket. He put in a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze. I just want to say thank you GM for standing behind your product. I have always bought Chevy Impalas and my husband has always bought chevy trucks but our next vehicles will be Toyota. If you can't own up to your mistakes, what good are you?

I own a 2002 Impala. The gas gauge has not worked properly for well over 2 years now. I understand there are many many more out there with the same problem, yet GM won't issue a recall on these fuel gauges. The gauge is erratic, reading full most of the time even when it is empty. GM knows about this problem with their gauges, yet won't do anything about it. Having this repaired on my own will be very costly. I am a widow on a limited income and can't afford it.

I have run out of gas a couple of times and before I had a cell phone, I had to walk a long way to a station. Since I am a female I broke down and got a cell phone because of this problem. I have to constantly monitor my mileage and put the same amount of gas in my car at all times or suffer the consequences of running out of gas.

If I wait 15 to 30 minutes, it will suddenly turn over. I have brought the car to Denecker Chevrolet several times, and have been informed that the problem was fixed every time. It is still doing the same thing! Today I was stuck at a gas station for 20 minutes with three of my grandchildren in 20 degree weather. I had to wait 20 minutes until it would start. I have now read MANY complaints similar to mine and find it hard to believe something is not being done by GM.

I have an 2003 Chevy Impala and I brought it in to the dealer (which I have had good luck since I bought the car) for a no heat problem. When they diagnosed the problem they found that the lower intake manifold gaskets were leaking, the water pump and gaskets needed replacing, the antifreeze (Dexcool) was so low that it didn't allow for heat-be advised there is no low coolant warning in this vehicle. I was told to fix it it would cost $1,150.00 which I don't have and after reading othewr complaints isn't there something that GM can be held responsible for to fix my car?
