I work with DD individuals and my job requires a vehicle. Due to other circumstances, I ended up at CarHop. I informed the persons of my situation and got approved by UAC for two vehicles. The sales female attempted to start the car, ended up quick charging the battery. During the test drive, the brakes were very soft, squeaking, and a rubbing sound. Salesperson said it was due to sitting for so long. The salesperson drove vehicle to my residence as I had another vehicle at that time.
The next day, I had errands and the blazer from CarHop wouldn't start, the ignition stuck in the forward position. I called and informed them, they sent a worker to my residence. He had NO success at starting the vehicle. CarHop had vehicle towed to what appeared to be a neighborhood garage, where CarHop person told me for three days, it should be ready tomorrow. Finally, four days later, it was ready. The first words the mechanic said is, "You better get that transmission checked out!!" He even recommended a specialist. I used the vehicle to get to work, loaded my DD client, and the passenger seat slid back and forth when I braked. I returned the vehicle due to it not being safe, and in my opinion, shouldn't be on any lot except maybe for parts. I cancelled the auto pay to UAC. UAC started calling friends and family on my reference list.

Ok went to carhop to get a car and was in need of a car. First off they had beaters there, a lot of them, but a car that was good and didn't have a lot of problems and was less than the beaters there I didn't qualify for. HOW DON'T YOU QUALIFY FOR A CAR THAT IS IN REAL GOOD SHAPE AND $2000.00 Less than the beaters. Ok now here is the killer. I been having trouble with a landlord, he takes your checks and says you are months behind. Well we aren't but the fear of him kicking us out well we have no choice.
Ok so I am 4 bi weekly payments behind, got state return and paid all but 214.00 now. In the meantime they are calling, threatening me going to take the car etc., abusive. This car had some issues but now has major issues-- it is falling apart, transmission slips, hatch won't open-- to fix this problem $1980.00 alone. The wheel bearings are shot and the oil was never changed in 50000 miles. They used grease for oil to hide that fact. The total value of this great car they sold me is $25.00. Well they say they are so great on tv and ads, they aren't. They take a desperate person that needs a car now and feeds them to the sharks. They get your friends' numbers so they can harass them to no end because you are a little behind.
My bank don't do that, they start getting concerned of 3 months behind not the little I was. They email you so you email them back ok. They say we need to talk to you and email won't cut it. When they do they are plain downright mean. "We need all of it now" or they say "call us to make an arrangement." No good so they can harass you some more. Times are tough and some people don't care. They won't pay but people like me that had a problem and now is solving this problem is being abused. NEVER BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!! I regretted it totally. You will also. The car is not road worthy. It will cost over $8000.00 alone to fix it.

Prices aren't right. They cheat you out of Money. They lie about their vehicles. They get them all in trade ins old rentals and auctions. They make them look pretty and the 3 day warranty they give you is all they make them work for. Me and my wife paid for a 5 digit car and with day in the first day we were having electrical problems. We called and they pushed the repairs back a week. So anything else we found doesn't matter. We had to replace the full front suspension new alternator. The mechanics said it was completely shot along with the battery. The fuel system keeps jumping up and down which would point to a fuel pump. There's also a complete heater system for inside the cab we have to replace and we also have to replace the rear suspension. Bumper was held together with a steel plate and some screws.
Recommendation. They should be put out of business. They do have some workers that work hard and are in fear of being fired for doing the right thing. CarHop's mechanics are your basic kitchen wizards. They say they have credentials but with everything I seen on what their mechanics said was a solid car I beg to differ. My mechanics found nuts and bolts in the suspension that aren't rated for what they were using them for. They wanted to put lives at risk to save a few bucks. We contacted a lawyer and didn't do anything for us. So we're putting the word out DO NOT GO TO CARHOP FOR A VEHICLE. Want a safe reliable car with HONEST COMPANIES GO TO YOUR VEHICLES DEALERSHIP.

We Took it in, and now they won't return my mother emails, phone calls, etc. I thought it was good Company at first. But now, how are they giving my mom the run around. It should be shut down and need to give all the clients money for the POS cars they sold! That shouldn't be allowed to treat people that Are down on luck like this.

When I purchased my car, I made a big mistake by not taking the car first to have a repair shop look at it. Carhop took this car and made it look nice by covering up a lot of things to make the car look pretty! Anyway, the film you watch in their office even has misrepresentation. The film states that as long as you're making your automatic payments the vehicle will be covered under their warranty. (This is a lie).
The front end of this car shakes when I drive down the road, because the stabilizer bar is broken. I told them about this problem 5 days after I drove it off the lot. The windshield cracked all the way across, which I also told them 5 days after I purchased this car. They told me that they would repair these problems and still have not... It's been more than a year and now they are saying that the Warranty won't cover it because I have gone over the mileage! WHAT? Their film said that this car is covered under "The Warranty until the car is paid off" (This is also a lie). Whatever you do, don't purchase a car from this company. You might help your credit, however you pay ten times more than what the car is really worth, and there really is no warranty.

Besides the vehicle being unsafe. My vehicle broke down so many times the first 3 months. Including engine, sensor and catalytic converter. I was without vehicle for 3 weeks cause they didn't want to cover all parts. The sales person promise to replace headlights, add a spare tire and fix seat belt. When I ask repair shop to fix the items at the same time he said they emailed him back no! So many things. My last and final is with all that going on I lost my mom. I asked if they will lower payments in October. Wayne account rep said "send in paystubs". This went on from October through December 2014. While making minimum payments. Tonight final straw - talked with a Jason in promotion dept. He was so rude, talked so nasty. I almost thought he was racist. Nobody deserves that type of treatment. I want nothing to do with that company going forward. If they really record their calls why won't the manager listen. Never did I talk nasty. I end up hanging up on him.

My car broke down and with the way it was looking, wasn't worth sinking the money into to fix. I went online and did a Google search and came across them. I had been a customer of theirs previously so I gave them a shot. Went in and filled out all the paperwork and was "approved" with $0 down, test drove a car and everything, all they needed was a pay stub. I explained to them that I will be getting one later in the week but it would be for only four days of work since it was a new job and was told it wouldn't be a problem. I waited until I got a pay stub and took it in and suddenly, the finance company wasn't so willing to approve me. Turns out, the guy I was dealing with was "new" and failed to fully explain what exactly the finance company needed.
When I mentioned this, they made every excuse in the book on their employee's behalf and didn't bother attempting to help me out due to the omission of information and sent me out the door saying "What do you expect us to do? It wasn't our decision!" I expected them to do what was right considering someone they pay didn't do his job properly. Instead, they made it seem as if I was lying and refused to explain the problem to their finance company. They were going to charge me over $7000 for a car that according to KBB, is worth $2000. They'll work hard to get you approved as long as you don't call them out on their **.

I went in to look at an older SUV that I could use to tow my boat with and had cash in my pocket to pay for the car. After looking at one on the lot, I went inside to talk to a salesman. After the guy wasted my time explaining that they are trying to "help" people establish good credit with loan rates of 20.9%, I offered to pay with cash and he said no and that they couldn't sell to me. Never would have thought a criminal, such as a used car sales man, would turn down an envelope of money... I wouldn't recommend anyone buy a car from these people.

Turns out there is a kiwi sized hole in my back driver’s side frame! They said it's been there for years and just getting worse by the day. She pretty much put what she thought was best on my application... which wasn't what I was explaining to her. She was negative and unpleasant to be around... and after being there all day... with income verification, co-signer and proof of address, I was still denied... Worse experience buying a car. I just recently purchased a vehicle, 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo 128000 plus miles. I drove for (1) full day. I work at night so subtract those hours. Upon arriving at work, the auto shuts off. I have to badge to get into the gate. Head home. The next morning I make a couple of pit stops - you know, showing the car off - after which I head home. Afterwards almost at the stop light I slow down, car shuts off again. Now I call the dealership. I'm told to contact the warranty dept, which I do. I take the car to a referred auto shop. Then after I get it there, then I am told in order to get the work done an approval has to be completed which could take from 24 to 48 hours.
Ok, I wait at least a day for that cars stays in the shop till the next day. I pick it up the following afternoon, Thursday, drive for a few more days. By Friday, the cars shuts down again several more time. I drive over to the original shop, explain what's happening. No, I call this time. The guy says, "Bring it in on Monday." So I drive a extra day. Later that afternoon, it shuts off again. Well, I don't take the car back right away. I receive a call from the finance co congratulating me about getting a new car. I tell them there is a problem going on after which I contact dealership once again.
This time they tell me to take to a different auto repair shop which I follow instructions. Work completed the first time was for a tune up. Now I am experience a different problem. Now the power steering has a problem and also the passenger door power window does operate properly. I can't roll up with the button from passenger side - only from the driver side. As I sit here pondering what to do next, I am paying for something that is not in my possession, sitting in a shop waiting on an approval - no car for the weekend.

Well I went to CarHop and I was given a 1993 Dodge Caravan. I didn't ask the right questions. Everyone seemed friendly enough to allow my self to get a piece of junk. I had no problems, I wanted to build credit. It sucked after I realized I was paying 2x's the amount for this 10-year-old vehicle. Needless to say after I called UAC and complained to no avail, I was stuck with vehicle. A year and half later, I went to a Ford dealership to trade-in for better vehicle. I was told the car had no value even if I still owed on in. The dealer wanted me to know that was the worst place to ever purchase a car.
I then looked at the women and reminded her it was her who sold it to me. As if I had the plague, she sent me to talk to someone else. He also reiterated CarHop takes broken desperate people and helps aid in their misery. I left feeling angry. I'm thinking what did I get myself into. Soon as I paid off van, it broke down and the mechanic informed me it was too costly to fix. I would be better off getting into a new car. Well the fun just getting started. All that "We help build credit to get you in the car you want" was a load of crap. I tried for 7 months and couldn't get a car. Within the years I was paying off car, I lost my job.
So I called UAC. I spoke to someone. I explained how I felt about the van and felt I was taken advantage of. Well true to format they look up purchase. It showed I paid on time and paid it off. I was now in a place with them to get a better car. All I had to do was go in. My dumb sick of buses, went and got a 1999 Chevy lumina, put 1,200 on it and owed over 10,000 more. Sure, at the time, beats walking. With a week, I was on highway, car stopped, started smoking. I was so angry I called the number given. To get car fixed, was informed I had to pay for towing and certain things still may not be covered in my limited warranty. I was enraged, but yet again stuck. Well it was the engine, they fixed something, but you can only go to their mechanics.
I got car back few days later. I started wondering why when I purchased car, they kept asking only time I would use car was going shopping and wouldn't be putting a lot of miles on it. It's coming to me, I'm signing paperwork not really paying attention to the slick I was being handled. A couple of months later, car broke down again. If I was flexible enough would had kicked my own **. I called, screamed, demanded that they let me out of contract. They all but laughed. I told them they were jacking up prices on junk cars, preying on poor people, and not being worthy of doing business and how the heck do they get away with it. I had 2 bald tires within 2 months. They don't cover that. I needed brakes fixed. I paid for a 10-year-old car 3 1/2 x's its worth. And I get enraged to this day when thinking of, not just expensive car, nor the amount fixing it, while realizing I could have been in a better vehicle for that type of money, a much nicer vehicle where the heat and air conditioning worked.

July of 2013 my car overheated, I was referred to Lloyd’s Auto on the South Hill. At the same time this is happening I'm having to buy and put in my car 1 quart of oil every 50 miles or so. Lloyd’s told me I needed a radiator cap and an oil change, so I did that and in September had to change the temp sensor. My car continued to lose oil, CarHop told me I bought the car deal with it.
I had to complain and complain about the continued oil loss until November 2013 when I assume carhop tired of listening to me and sent me to Lloyd's on North Division where they found a cracked piston, they replaced the engine. July 2014, my car has broken down again, thermastat this time. In 13 months I’ve had 4 breakdowns and pay 400 a month. If you are a single mom, run as fast as you can away from CarHop, I don’t feel safe that my car will get me from point to point and for you with kids, like I said run from this company.

I know that I have bad credit and I know that I am the one who put me in the situation to be preyed on by companies like CarHop. I didn't get the car that they offered me because when I test drove it I noticed it had a hesitation plus it wasn't the one I inquired about. I have had my current car for over 10 yrs and I have done all my own work to my car so I know some of the possible causes, but that is for another story. I seen an ad on Craigslist for a 2000 red Grand Am and I inquired about it, and they called quickly and set me up an appointment.
I drove over 40 miles to CarHop for the appointment. I had a small down payment and was trading my current car 1993 Saturn SL2 that burns a little oil and has some floorboard issues but still gets well over 35 mpg. I figured hey I get the newer Grand Am maybe lose a few mpg all along rebuilding my credit. My appointment was at 2:15. I got there at 1:35, yet didn't get seen till 3:35. Then I did all the info and application processed it was after 5:00. I must say the salesman was very nice and apologized several times for how long it was taking. I was interested in a couple of the cars on the lot but he informed me that I didn't have a choice, that it depended on what the finance dept chose.
I was a little confused since I am the one going to be making the payments, I should have some choice in what I am going to be driving and paying an outrageous amount for. The nice gentleman said everything came back good and they would have me in a car soon and said it wasn't going to be a two door like I was interested in, and I thought there was a couple "okay" cars on the lot. Then he states well the car that is being offered is out front it’s a 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis... My attitude changed then. To humor the man for all his hard work I took it for a test drive.
Well needless to say it’s not very practical and here is why 1. It’s barely going to get 20 mpg (my car well over 35 mpg and I drive 34 miles one way to work) 2. It is a big boat (my car is small easy to drive and park) 3. It needed a tune up due to the hesitation (whether the plugs and wires, the fuel filter, pump or injectors or something else). I took it back to the dealership and said I can’t do that car. "Why in the hell would I go backwards in mpg and take on a ridiculous car payment for something that isn't worth it - not including the extra money it would take in gas." Almost all the other cars on the lot are what I would consider practical for someone on a budget and credit issues not a 4000lb car with a V8 - not very practical for someone on a budget.

I purchased a car from CarHop in 2012, it was a 1999 Ford Explorer. Little did I know that the truck had so many problems. For one thing, it took six hours for them to do all the financing and for me to get the truck. Then I found out the driver's side rear door would not lock. I took the truck to get the front wheels aligned and I found out the calibers were messed up, along with the truck wouldn't pass inspection while still under warranty.
So I called the number they give for warranty work and they referred me to a shop here in St. Louis, MO which I took it to. That shop did not know what the Hell they were doing. They fixed everything but what was wrong with my truck and still charged CarHop $1000. And along with them not fixing, they kept my truck for 5 days saying they were waiting on a part, so I was like where the hell is the part coming from. So I got pissed and told them just put my truck back together and I'll take it somewhere else. That was the first incident.
The second was the fuel pump went out in my truck so I called the warranty people again, I told them I am not taking it back to that shop again so they sent me somewhere else. After diagnosing my truck they found out it was the pump. So CarHop told them to go on and fix it, but they were not going to pay to put a new pump in it because the truck was a 1999, and I was told that they are not going to put a new part in a vehicle that old. Then I told them I would buy the pump and they would have to pay for the assembly for the pump that was needed. They said they was not going to do that. It wasn't until I took it to one of their lots that they agreed to pay for the assembly. This is a messed up company.

2002 pontiac - DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM CARHOP! Carhop seemed good in the beginning. Advertising says only 99$ down, build your credit. All of that sounds great but doesn't necessarily mean that car's going to get you to work every day. I'm only 18 years old and had thought that it couldn't get any better than carhop because I had no credit and couldn't get approved anywhere else. I asked some of the standard questions when I purchased the car. Like, what's covered? Are the tires good? Etc. They do not give you a list of what is already wrong with the car. So when I purchased it, it was due for an oil change which is no biggy...
When I went to a mechanic explaining a noise I was hearing, my belt was cracked and my wheel cylinders were completely broken. The belt was not covered but the cylinders were covered, but WHY WOULDN'T YOU LET THE BUYER KNOW THAT SOMETHING THAT SEVERE WAS ALREADY WRONG WITH THE CAR AT PURCHASE! Everything was going good for a while besides me getting the alignment done and two brand new tires for the front. Remind you I haven't had this car for more than 3 months. I went in for my next oil change and had an inspection done. The rotors were warped and valve covers were cracked and I needed a whole tune up. Of course, I always get what needs to be done because I commute to work and need a working car. When got that done the mechanic informed me that my transmission mount was broken.
Not even another month my car started to not start, and died on me on the freeway. Pulled over, turned right back on. At work went and purchased a new battery and new alternator. It was fine for about a week. Then would not turn over at all! I've had several different mechanics take a look at it! It's not compression, fuel pump, spark, ignition coils, ANYTHING! We started to brainstorm and realized that there has been a security light on ever since I bought my car and no check engine light on the dash.. The last resort is that light has FRIED the computer.
I tried to talk to UAC about warranty and they said no electrical is covered!!!!! REMIND YOU I HAVEN'T HAD MY CAR FOR 6 MONTHS AND I'M PAYING DOUBLE THE AMOUNT FOR THIS STUPID CAR AND THE WARRANTY IS NOT HELPING!!!! When I had to get warranty in the beginning, they told me that the closest service center for carhop was the Hayward, CA center. Come to find out there is one not even two blocks away from my house!! I contacted them and they said this is a common issue with carhop and that carhop chooses their favorite service centers rather than servicing their customers at the best they can! So now I am carless for about two weeks while my car is at G-tech in Antioch, Ca where there are people that are affiliated with CarHop that actually want to help! I cannot wait till I am done paying this car off (if it makes it that long..) and junk it.

I missed one payment after paying on car for 17 months and not missing a payment UAC threaten to repo it after they agreed to help me with a payment plan. I was to pay double to catch up at $288. They don't even honor it. They said they fired my old account manager and now I have to pay $100 or there will be consequences. I told Ed my new account manager I couldn't pay now. Then he advises me to go to the pawnshop or donate some blood. I think the pigs at UAC know it's economic hard times and they talk down to you like you're worthless. It's unacceptable. I will not do business with them again.
I felt like I had no other options and they make you pity your credit history. Anyway I am angry with Ed. He was rude and condescending. Just stay away from CarHop. They sell cars that aren't street legal. They sold me a 2000 Ford Taurus with no horn, no working brake light and the front brakes were gone plus the rear passenger tire was worn out. This was my second car option I got to test drive. The first was a Kia Rio that was littered with dog hairs and had no working seat belts. In my haste, I purchased the 2000 Ford Taurus. I regret that purchase. I'm almost done paying on this car that need a new ABS system $600 and new rear brakes $500 plus under the hood is making squealing noises. The car isn't worth more than $700 in the condition it is in. After I pay it off, I'm gonna junk it.

In March 2014, my husband and I went to Car Hop to finance a car through them. We did all the paperwork and credit information which takes at least 4 hrs or more to complete everything. Then when they okayed us for a auto, we got to choose from 3 autos, a station wagon and 2 SUVs. My husband wanted to test drive the 2000 Chevy Blazer (2-Door). We test drive it and when we returned to the dealership we told the salesperson, and the manager lady there who is in charge of warranty that when you stopped or slowed down that is started missing. Both of them said it was because it was sitting in the lot for a day without being started and that everything was fine with it, that it had a 18000-mile warranty or 18 month.
We financed the car and a week later the missing got a lot worse, it would die sometimes. We contacted Car Hop and they said to take it to their service place and have it checked out on the machine for $75. And then they would decide if it could be fixed. We did this and after calling the lady manager a few times to get a hold of her, she said that they would repair it. A month later, we hear a sound like the drive belt is loose and making a sound like a flying saucer taking off when you are driving it. We found out when we took it back to Car Hop's service place that it was not the belt but the pulley that keeps the belt tight and that to fix it, it would be at least $110! Car Hop said it was not covered and would not pay to repair it.
Now, 3 months from getting the SUV (May 2014), the car is making a sound like a hole in something and air whooshes out while you drive it. We contacted Car Hop and was told by the head warranty lady at Car Hop to take it down to their service place again and then they would get back to us for a decision. Car Hop's service place told us that the problem was in the manifold to the engine, and would cost over $200 to repair. We were told by the lady in warranty at Car Hop that they would not cover it! We don't even have 1/2 of the 18,000-mile on the car that the warranty was suppose to cover! This car that we have had for only 3 months now is a big fat money trap and Car Hop should be responsible for the repairs to it since it has less that 18,000 miles and was just got in March 2014. All I can say is stay as far away as you can from Car Hop! You Don't want all the problems and Lemon we got!

I got a car from CarHop last year in around September I believe because I had no other choice! I didn't think my credit was good enough to go get a new car so I went to them. They didn't give me a lot of choices but being a single mom needing a car to get back & forth to work, I got a 2001 Buick Regal in poor condition! I had to drive it thru the winter with no heat with my kids in the car! When I told them about the issue, they told me to take it to their approved shop and they waived the diagnostic fee. Well, when I took it to the shop, the fee was $70! I told them it was supposed to be waived & they had no record of it.
So I put a thick comforter in my back seat for the kids to cover up with on our 30-minute commute every day (!) still faithfully giving them their payment each week. I'm in sales too & had worked with the Sales Rep Tyler at a previous employer of his so I felt comfortable letting him know that this was not a car I would be keeping. It was just to get me by till tax time. He said, "That's not a problem. Just stay current on your payments & you'll be fine & when you find something else just let us know." They were charging me $6000 for this car but I didn't pay attention to the price because I knew I wasn't keeping it.
So I get a new car in February, super nice for almost half of what they were charging for their raggedy hoopty & called to tell them where the car was so they could go get it since I can't drive 2 cars at once & they said, "Okay, no problem." Well then I go to my mechanic shop where I bought the car from almost 2 months later to get some subs put in & I see the Buick still sitting there! I asked my guy if they had came to get it or why was it still there and of course he didn't know why but I called them again & asked them why they had not went out to get the car & they didn't have an answer for me. I think they left it there intentionally so it would seem as if I wasn't making my payments.
The thing is I have a record of when I bought my new car & transferred the tags & the guys at the shop know how long it was there too so that was stupid on their part. Now I get a letter in the mail saying I still owe $5,000 on a car that #1 I gave back to you, #2 I never was late on a payment, #3 I was told I could return the car, #4 the car wasn't worth a fraction of what they were charging for it. If the car was worth what they said it was, why couldn't they just sell it to someone else since I willingly gave it back!
I know that CarHop & UAC play the blame game pointing fingers saying no that's their department or whatnot but trust me, I've been in sales a long time & it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that CarHop & UAC are one and the same company just using 2 different names to try to screw people over. I have numerous blogs & sales pages not only locally but also nationwide & I will be making sure everyone knows about these unfair business practices & I save as many people as possible from getting screwed over.
Times are hard enough as it is without people like them around. You can say goodbye to that $5,000 because I'm not gonna pay it & you can say goodbye to anyone that I could have sent your way to buy a car thru my social media sites. We all know negative word of mouth is way more effective than positive word of mouth. You all should be ashamed of taking advantage of people who are in tough situations as it is! Luckily, I found a good honest car dealer who doesn't do business the way you guys do! If anyone needs to know where to get a car & not get screwed over, let me know & I will put you in touch with the right people!

CarHop is quite literally the worst finance company I've ever dealt with and as far as I'm concerned, all of the TV ads and promotions should be considered false advertising (as little as $99 down bad credit no credit it doesn't matter) ha ha. I don’t have bad credit and I went to CarHop with $500 cash, the title to my previous vehicle for trade in. I’m not some 17 yr old kid with zero job history. I've had my job for well over a yr. Some would say gainfully employed, at least my landlord considered me to be. After I was denied the first time, I for some odd reason returned again with a total of a $750 down payment and a co-signer and again disapproved.
CarHop is complete **. I would not even recommend them to someone I don't like. Now I have a very nice reliable vehicle now which I financed through a different company that doesn’t advertise ** on TV, and they were great. The place is called Hotwheelz and I would recommend them to anyone. Your credit actually doesn't matter there. Hear that CarHop, you suck.

And they show nice cars on web just to get there to find out cars are old, lots of miles, dents, scratches, no hub caps, very poor shape, and the bad thing is customers are paying between $330.00 & $390.00 monthly for 2 to 3 yrs.
Come on, $12,000 total for a 2001 Dodge Neon, with over 150,000 miles? Are you kidding me? Book value not even $2,000. Please, they should be shut down. DO NOT buy a car here! They sell subpar quality vehicles and exploit people in desperate transportation situations. The car I bought had serious transmission issues. They were friendly and eager to take my calls when they were trying to sell me a car. However, they became very rude and left me on hold for 30 mins when I called their warranty department about the failing transmission. After my mechanic looked the car over, he told me that what they were charging me for the vehicle was "highway robbery" so I took it back within the 3 day cancellation period. When I went in to return the car, they told me I'd have to wait to get my down payment back.
After reviewing my contract and finding that nowhere in my contract did it state that I'd have to wait for my down payment to be returned, I call to ask for it back with the same speed at which I handed it over. I was given the runaround by several people on the phone (as well as lots of rude and unprofessional tones), I was made to hold for 45 mins, lied to by the hideously rude manager "Vee" and another sales woman who claimed that it was in the contract that they didn't have to give my money back right away, which it is not. This is an unethical business run by crooks and nasty people. Save yourself a whole lot of grief and buy elsewhere!!!

I bought a car in Oct 2012. They told me that there was a 'total coverage warranty for the entire time I have the loan on the vehicle'. In May 2013, the car stopped running. I took it to their mechanic who informed me that the radiator needed to be replaced, the water pump was bad and needed to be replaced, and a myriad of other things were bad and needed to be repaired. They sent CarHop the itemized work order and CarHop decided that the majority of the items were not covered by the 'warranty' and that I was responsible to have the car repaired.
I called customer (dis)service demanded to speak to a supervisor and then went above them again and finally got CarHop to pay for a portion of the repairs, although I was responsible for about $700 of the total bill. I deferred one month of payments so that I could pay for the repairs. It's funny to me how a warranty that was touted to be total coverage didn't actually cover any of the engine parts that needed to be replaced on my car. Fast forward to October 2013, I was contacted by CarHop who said they sold my loan to an outside company and it's a good thing, as my payments will go down because I will get a better interest rate - I was instructed to keep my auto payments the same and the new loan company would contact me to set up payments.
The new loan company contacted me in December 2013 to set up the payments, and I thought everything was just fine. Then Feb 28th happened. On this day, a car repo company came to repossess the car I had bought from CarHop. I called the new loan company and they informed me I was 104 days past due on my loan, and that the two months of missed payments, current month, the deferred month and penalties and fees totaling over $1700 was now due, but there was no guarantee my car would not be repossessed because it was Friday night and the repo dept was closed until Monday (how convenient). I asked him why I was never called or had any correspondence from them regarding the missed payments, and why I should be responsible for their error?
I was told to call the repo dept on the following Monday and make a payment in full, or my car would be repossessed. Well, the next morning, I took it to a real dealership and explained my situation and I traded that piece of crap clunker in for a brand new 2014 car. The new dealership did inform me that my credit score had taken a hit in the last two months - due to the "past due" payments to CarHop/new loan company. I feel like this is a big scam - CarHop sells cars for WAY more than their market value or worth, and then sells the loan to another loan company - telling the customer it's a good thing. But how is my credit score dropping over 100 points a good thing??? I will never ever ever recommend CarHop to anyone. EVER.

The warranty is not even worth the paper its printed on. No wonder they have many bad reviews and complaints. Sounds like these guys are predators. They way overprice their vehicles... They charge triple the value of what its worth. Then you get stuck with a payment and a non-working piece of crap. Please read these reviews and don't do business with them. The good reviews are probably done by their staff while waiting for their next victim. Well I bought a 2003 ford focus on April 3rd 2013. On that day on my way home from there the check engine light went on, and so I called them and stated that it was my problem and if it was covered by the warranty they can fix it but if not I would have to. I stated that I just left there and I just bought it. They stated that I signed the papers and it was now my issue. Then my car started to die out every time I drove it. It did not even go 3 blocks and so I called them. They stated that they will pay for what was covered and nothing more. Then the pulley busted off the engine and die in the middle of the street in October, and so I took it to the shop, and I had to pay 156.00 to get it out.
I called to carhop and stated that I did not want to pay for a car that was not drivable. They stated that a contract was a contract, so I stopped payment. I got to talk to a supervisor there and he stated that he promise to fix the car so it was drivable if I promise to pay my payments. I said deal, so I paid and they still made me pay. Then in November my car was blowing white smoke and I took it to the shop and they stated it needed a new engine. They waited till December to put it in, then I drove it 3 days later on the freeway and it made a very loud noise and die right in the middle of the freeway. I was almost in a deadly accident. I called them and told them and they stated that it was too bad because I had a contract and I still had to pay.. I stated that I was not going to pay for a car that was no good.
I am disabled and can't afford to pay for the car and pay for everybody to take me where I had to go, and it was not good and they sold me a car that did not run and it just sits in my drive way. She stated that I knew what I signed for and I still had to pay for the car even if it was not good. I told her to go get the car at the shop and that there was lemon laws for what they are doing to me. She stated that it did not apply to me and I hung up. They call every day, and don't care that I almost died in the car, and I asked them to replace it with another car and they stated that was not an option and I had a contract and must pay.

This is a very long story that spans over two years, and a little long to put in a comment area, so I hope someone will contact me so that I can explain in more detail why I believe Car Hop defrauded me. Long story semi-short... I went to Car Hop because I needed a car to get to California fast and went in to see if they could help me. When they said they would I was ecstatic. I could get home! I had been looking at a minivan, but when they approved me, they told me that I couldn't get that car. (I've seen other people say that they gave them a list of cars to choose from in their approved price)... I didn't even get that... I got the choice of one car... a 99 Ford Taurus and the total amount was $7,000. It was a 3 year loan I thought, but at this point I've had the car for 2 years and 2 months, and still owe $4000 on a car that is literally worth only $680. Kelly Blue Book, in the current state it sits in.
Even if it didn't have those issues, because of its condition, I could still only get maybe $1,100 trade and because it has so much rust on the underneath of the car and around it, I don't even know about that. Because my car has been sitting in my parking lot for six months, I had to change two flat back tires last night and the jack went right thru the underneath and the car dropped to the ground. Had I not had to get home, I wouldn't have done it. Even my account manager at Car Hops finance company UAC, said he would never buy a car from Car Hope. Boy wish someone had told me that before I got screwed with this piece of junk. I didn't think it could get as bad as it's gotten.
I've been in a battle with UAC for over six months now over my front end that needs to be replaced. I can't even drive the car because I was told the tie rod could break while I'm driving and that I could be killed if that happens. Again, I haven't drove the car in over six months!!! Anyway, I thought I was getting a car that had been checked out by a mechanic, like they told me, and had at least an oil change right! Wrong... that hadn't even been done. Nothing had come to find out. Car Hop told me the only issue on the car was that the windshield wiper cord had been cut, but I could get that fixed easy and cheap. **!!! So I drove the car to California, literally two days after I bought the car, and lo and behold, when I got there, I needed new tires and an oil change $350 bucks. I thought to myself... "But wait, they said they did an oil change and it had new tires. Why do I have to do that after 1400 miles? I should be able to go a lot further than that..." Interesting... The belts looked like, at that point, they should have been replaced before it was sold, but I told him it was under warranty and let me call them to see if they would cover it.
Nope. The warranty only covers "stuff in the engine" whatever that mean! Don't the belts make the engine run??? Weird but fine... I only drove the car 1,400 miles. There's no way I should have needed an oil change or tires or belts!! But I guess I have to fix that problem, maybe a couple months go by and the next thing I know I need new rear brakes $500. Couple months later and I'm now also having overheating problems... Come to find out the overflow tank for the radiator had a hole in it and needs to be replaced. That was like that when I bought the car he said that's why I filled it up so much. I thought it was just the Arizona heat! Fine. They don't cover that under the warranty. Great. Now another $250.
Almost right away it started acting up, cutting out. I took it to a mechanic and was told it was the fuel pump. He gave me a deal... just parts, no labor... $200. Are you kidding me? I guess I'm gonna bite that one too!! I start driving the car again and right away it's doing the same cutting out as it was before. I take it to the shop again and since it's doing the same thing, it must be the spark plugs and wires... $288. He said the fuel pump was going to need to be replaced. Anyway it was bad. This is all happening within a year of me having the car. There's a lot more to it, so please call me **.

I asked if he could find out. He said, "That's not how we do it. I run your credit and get you approved and we get a list of cars that you qualify for and can pick from."
I explained that the price of a car shouldn't fluctuate based on a person's credit and just wanted to know the price of the car. He again refused, saying that's not how it works. I asked him what would motivate a person to come buy a car from him if he won't give a price and he just said, "Well, then maybe this program isn't for you." Wow! It is very clear that these folks find people that are not in the best credit rating and desperate, and then overcharge them for a car that is not in that great of shape. This is horrible business and I would highly recommend folks to find a reputable dealer that works with those rebuilding or starting to build their credit.

I truly feel as if I was totally taken advantage of! Carhop is not honest at all. They gave me a 2004 Kia Rio that I thought was a safe and reliable car. I specifically told the saleswoman, Theresa, that I had planned on getting a car to get from Point A to Point B. I recently found out that I will be going to take classes to enhance my career, and by doing this I would need a car. That is the main reason I purchased this car. Before I even left the lot there were some issues with this car, like not being able to open the passenger door from the inside, the alignment was messed up, and the car was pulling to the left. Theresa had told me that the problems would be fixed with no charge from me, so I was thankful for that and bought the car.
That very night, after driving off the lot, the key to the car had broken in my door right before I was leaving for work. Carhop did not give me a second key so I had to go to a place that molds keys, which is not done at all anymore, apparently, because the machine is so old. So I had to use a molded key until I ordered one from the actual Kia dealership. Now, a little over a week later, I will have to take the car back to the shop because I believe it is having transmission issues. I bought a '97 Ford from them and was assured it was the most reliable vehicle on their lot. Wow, that's not saying anything at all for them because I didn't even get the car home before the problems began. In some states, there is a 3-day buyer's remorse law, but by then, they had trashed my truck I used as a trade in. A TV reporter tried to get them to talk about their vehicles and they refused. For a 1997 Ford Taurus, they ripped me off for over $8,000 and the repairs exceeded that amount. By the time I paid it off, the car cost me well over $15,000! Their warranty is a joke.
They find a trashed, used transmission and try to force it into the car. As soon as I paid it off, after yet two more tow bills and repair bills, I got the car going long enough to take it to a dealer who gave me $700 for it and I walked out with a brand new car. If enough people complain, I would think someone could put them out of business. It is totally illegal to roll back the mileage, so to the couple that found out they had done that, you need to see the highway patrol and an attorney. To those that think they can't do better, dealers are more than happy to work with you and understand bad things happen to good people.

I have never heard of layaway for a car. But there were only about 10 cars on the lot, with 6 of them already on layaway. So bad advertisement because I cannot come in and just leave with the car. I’m glad I didn’t buy one. I would never return here and will tell everyone not to even think about it. Customer service is huge, so hire people who are happy in life.

I purchased a vehicle from them in 2010. They sold me a 2002 Ford Windstar with 155k miles and the cost including a limited warranty was $8K. I have owned my fair share of vehicles in my lifetime, and I have to say this vehicle was not a lemon, it was a mess. It would stall randomly as I drove it down the highway. The brake light would come on for no reason and run my battery dead, even in the middle of the night. It burned a quart of oil every 2 days. The mechanics, independent of Carhop, said the whole engine needed to be rebuilt. I turned the vehicle back over to them because it was an unsafe vehicle to drive. They were not concerned salesmen wanting to keep my business or maintain a business relationship in the future, they were very disrespectful and uncooperative in the matter. I maintained a professional and respectful manner with them through my entire dealings with them.
After my purchase of the vehicle, I learned of 4 other people that also had dealings/purchased vehicles through Carhop. Two of them were single mothers. Both women had major issues with their car. One of them had the engine blow 2 months after she purchased it and was told it was not covered by warranty. She was told she was expected to continue making her payments even though she had no car and they would not work with her to put her in a different car. Another woman said she experienced the same issue of her engine burning a ton of oil and they kept telling her to bring it to the mechanic who never really fixed it. Finally, her warranty expired, and then they refused to help her at all. The guy I know that had issues said his transmission went out on him.
I know of one other person who bought a car and didn't have any major issues with the vehicle, but he said the payments were really high and the price was high for the value of the vehicle. He felt he had no choice because he didn't have better credit to finance at a reputable dealership. So my take on this is that 4 out of 5 people (including myself) known to me had really bad experiences. I'm not sure why that is, but it is something that should be considered. My recommendation to anyone considering Carhop is to suck it up for a while if you cannot buy a car outright. Eat rice and beans, get a second job, take the bus, do what you have to do to save every month for a cash car. Then you can buy a cash car for around $1,500 or so.
After you can afford a car like that, drive it for a while, stocking money away every month, doing the same strategy, saving. And then next time you buy a car, you have a car to trade or sell to use toward a trade, essentially "trading up." This is what rich people do. Be smart with your money. Do not buy what you cannot afford and get over financed into a vehicle that is not worth the financing.

I purchased a car on Oct. 3,2012 from CarHop. They picked out the car for me and would not even discuss the one I was looking at. The brakes were grinding on the test drive and the salesman added to the contract the brakes were to be fixed at no charge. The car made it one week before the trouble started. First, it was the fuel line and we told the mechanic that CarHop picked out to also do the brakes that they promised in the contract. When the mechanic submitted the bill to CarHop, they refused to pay for it even though it was in the contract. Within the next month, the tires went, and the engine needed to be replaced.
After they replaced the engine, it never ran right. It would either stall or jump at stop lights and was lucky to get 10 mpg. Every time you call the warranty dept., you get put on hold and eventually hung up on. You need to be transferred about 5 times before you get someone who knows anything. Once they sent me to an oil change place for an estimate on body work. Thank God, my daughter totaled it out because I think it would have haunted us forever. Dealing with them about the accident has been a nightmare!

This place is horrible! They will get you into a car that they choose for you that they tweak to work for only a couple of weeks before everything goes wrong! Then they promise you that the vehicle has a warranty if you elect to have auto-pay and if anything breaks while you still have a contract, they will fix it but you have to take it to their mechanic for some more temporary fixes! Do not buy from CarHop!

Okay, so let me start by saying I'm 20 years old and about a year ago, I was ready to purchase my very first vehicle. I have never had a loan or credit cards so I haven't established credit yet. I went to CarHop to finance a "reliable" vehicle for my job. Well, at the time I didn't understand everything that went along with purchasing a vehicle. I mistakenly trusted these people to have the best intentions for me. Anyway, the dealer walked me through part of the paperwork and skipped the fine print showing me a price of $8,000. I was under the impression that that was including interest. No, I paid $8,000 for a $4,000 vehicle! I knew they had insane interest rates so I didn't think much of it - until I read the fine print. The total I paid was over $11,000 and I have had nothing but problems since I bought it. I will never recommend anybody to CarHop.

A little over a year ago, I bought a car from CarHop. The first two weeks that I had the car, I didn't drive it, I was on vacation. When I got back, the car's engine light came on. I hooked it up to my grandfather’s sensor and found out that what was wrong with it. We got that fixed because it was something some and the dealership wouldn't fix it. Then the next thing I know, my car was dying left and right. We could not figure out what was wrong. Auto people couldn't even figure out what was wrong with it. My car then was dead for about 5 months. Finally, my grandfather figured out what was wrong. I thought, yes it’s finally over; all the stress of not having a way to get to work and the worry of what I am supposed to do with this car. I owe so much on it. But then three lights came back on.
Right now the car sits in my driveway. I only drive it when I have to. I have a two-month-old baby. I would love to be able to get a safe car. I tried to take it in to get it traded. They then informed me that the car was in an accident. I had no idea. I was then told that there is a law that says the dealership has to tell me if the car I am about to buy was in an accident, which they never told me. The dealership that I was now at then tells me the car is not worth anything. I freaked. I am now in a ** hole because of CarHop. I have an unsafe car for my new baby. I can trade it in without being in a bigger hole. I just am so upset over this whole thing. If I knew that it was in an accident and that what is wrong with it now is wrong with it, I would have never bought that car. I feel as though I am in a hole.

I purchased a used car from CarHop on October 1, 2011. The car I purchased was a 2001 Chevy Malibu LS. Prior to purchasing this car, I made sure that everything was working; everything from windows, radio, sun roof, dash/cluster, etc. To date, I have had nothing but problems with this car and I have had to spend thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for repair costs.
To date, I have had many problems with this car which include replacing the battery, all four tires, brakes and rotors on the front axle, ignition lock cylinder, sender and the cluster repaired. The sender was covered under warranty, but replacing the sender did not fix the original issue. A few months after buying the car, the cluster started having problems. Everything was not working except the "theft system" indicator, "check engine" indicator, left and right turn signal indicators, hazard lights, RPM and MPH gauges. The fuel gauge was not working and is the reason the sender was replaced.
As stated previously, the replacing of the sender still showed the fuel gauge to be reading zero regardless of how much fuel was in the tank. Therefore, the cluster itself was sent off for repair and it was received today. My mechanic put the cluster back into the car and the same issue remains. The only thing working on the cluster are "theft system" indicator, "check engine" indicator, left and right turn signal indicators, hazard lights, RPM and MPH gauges.
When I initially advised CarHop of the ongoing problem with the cluster, they advised me that they sold me the car with the cluster not working. The cluster was working at the time of purchase, but they maintain that it was not working at the time of purchase. I verified with Al at the CarHop location that I bought this car from (Des Moines location) that the car itself was not checked for any issues prior to putting the car on the sales lot.
My mechanic thought it could be an electrical issue, a sensor issue or even a Body Control Module (BCM) issue. I contacted CarHop and again. I got the same "not my problem" attitude they have always given. They will not cover the cost of these repairs and it will be even more out-of-pocket expense. They even claim that their limited warranty is the "best in town", but that is nothing more than a joke! CarHop is nothing more than a joke!
I have only had this car for five months and sixteen days. I have had nothing but problems with this car and I want to put in a formal complaint about CarHop. Their "customer service" is terrible and they have a "not my problem" attitude. They have been very unreliable and unhelpful. They have only covered the cost for one issue (replacing the sender) which was a complete waste of time because it didn't fix the original issue of the fuel gauge reading zero. To date, most of the cluster still doesn't work.
I would also like to know if "lemon law" will cover me under these conditions because I have had nothing but problems since the day I bought this car. As soon as one issue is resolved, something else happens. I am not Bill Gates and I do not have an infinite supply of money. I have poured thousands of dollars into this car and still have many issues to resolve which will cost even more money. I understand that there are always going to be repair costs when owning a vehicle, but this is becoming ridiculous! It's almost like I live at the mechanics because I am always there for one reason or another.
I even have an issue with the bearings on the front left wheel. According to CarHop and their so-called attitude, this too will not be covered and will be another out-of-pocket expense. What I would love to do is throw this heap of junk car in the trash and have it replaced with something different from CarHop, but of course, they are not about to do that. Please, advise me as to any options I may have.

I traded my 2000 Mustang in on a 2002 Mountaineer and the tranny was screwed in it. I had to put it in the shop for a week and when my girlfriend went to pick it up, the gearshift broke off. I've been without my car for weeks, so I called the shop. They came and picked it back up and the warranty people won't answer the shop or call back. The chick who answered the pone was rude and would not let me talk to the supervisor. I'm pissed. You guys are con men and I will be getting a hold of my lawyers. That's a ** promise.

I purchased a car back in June 2011. After 9 day of having the vehicle, the engine got busted. I took the car to the shop they advised me but it took them 11 days to repair it. Mind you, it would have been longer if I didn't do my work and stay on the top of stuff.
After I get the vehicle back, I had another issues with oil leak. I also have been waiting for 4 months, yes! 4 months, to get my license plates due to title and tax paperwork issues. I spoke with the dealer and have chosen not comply, even with the DMV suggested to them, I was sitting there while they called the dealer.
The dealership manager, Joe ** says to me that he will give me a letter on letter head, thinking I can take that down to the DMV and get my plates, which they laughed at me about. So, I am still waiting and nothing was resolved.
Totally unprofessional and they still expect their payments. I can't drive the car due to no license plates.

I'm a senior citizen, living on a fixed income. I needed to buy another car. So I went to CarHop. I've had the car for 3 months, and shortly after I got the car, it was making a noise. I notified CarHop, and they said to take it to a garage or bring it to Tacoma, as it was covered by the warranty. I took it to 2 garages in my area, as I don't drive in Tacoma. But CarHop wouldn't pay it, as they said the estimate to fix it was too high.
My son then went to check the car out at Car Fax. That's when I found out the odometer was altered, as according to my bill of sale, it said the mileage was 96,000 and according to Car Fax it was 181,262. I couldn't get the car fixed. I have no money to fix as it was supposed to have the warranty. I then told them to come get the car. Now, they're threatening to make me pay for it any way. I just need to know what I can do, as I was scammed.

I purchased a 1998 Ford Windstar from CarHop on May 7, 2010. I had test driven it prior to purchasing the vehicle. I heard a noise in the front wheel and in the belt. I asked that they check it out. Before getting the car back, I asked about the wheel and the dealer assured me that it was fine. Later on that night 5 hours later, the wheel came off on the freeway as I was going 60 mph. I injured my shoulders and neck trying to control the car.
I had it towed back to CarHop where they refused to give back my money or pay for the tow. Instead, they fixed the axle and hub but not the fender or body damage. They told me that I would have to come and pick up the car. This was a week later. I am still suffering from the incident and making payments on the van. I would like payment for the medical bills, my pain and suffering, the tow cost, and the body damage repaired. I had a lawyer working on the case and they decided that they could not pursue it any longer. What do I do now?
