The problem is intake manifold gasket leak at 45,038 mileage of a 2002 Buick Century (car new 7/02 and well maintained). I wonder if there is a recall or "secret" (or other) warranty on this equipment.

I have a 2002 Buick Rendezvous CXL. It has had cooling system problems which I cannot seem to resolve. I have had the intake gasket changed after recommendations by two different service stations. I paid hundreds of dollars to do this. I have also paid to have the cooling system checked for leaks and have been told there are none. My car has now reached a point where I can't use air conditioning without my car overheating. I am flushing the radiator today and replacing the coolant with a different brand after seeing all of the complaints about Dex-Cool. I have noticed the rust colored sludge in my overflow container and am wondering if I, like many other GM car owners, am being affected by this poor product. I am a nursing student and barely getting by. I can't afford to keep repairing my vehicle. My transmission is now shifting really hard and I am worried if it is being affected by this.

I have owned three late model Buick LeSabres including a 1988 in 1993, a 1997 in 1998 and a 2002 since 2003. My wife and I drive at normal speeds and do not stress the car with rapid acceleration. We maintain the cars very well with oil changes every 3000 miles, etc. All three spun a main bearing when the cars had only 50,000 to 65,000 miles requiring engine replacement. What is that about?

When getting my 1995 Buick Century car serviced at the Concord Chevrolet dealer, it has been found that there is oil in the coolant reservoir. This is due to the oil intermixed with coolant, leaking from a faulty intake manifold. The intake has to be resealed, rubber coolant hoses have to be replaced, radiator, heater cores and engine block have to be cleaned. The estimated cost of the repairs is $2,100.

In 2003 I posted a complaint on ConsumersAffairs.com regarding sudden brake failure on my wife's 99 Buick Regal, with 31K miles, due to a rusted out brake line bursting. Three rusted metal brake lines had to be replaced. Last week I posted a new complaint regarding my 6000 pound 2004 Chevy Avalanche with 38K on the clock. Sudden and total brake failure occurred due to burst rusty brake line. Had I been towing 4000 or 5000 pounds (as this heavy duty truck is designed to do) down a hill and this happened, I can imagine what the outcome would have been. Almost every metal brake line is severely rusted and requires replacement. But today lighting struck again in the same place. A brake line suddenly started to leak on our son's 99 Buick LaSabre with 143K on the clock. He noticed his brake pedal getting mushy and then the Service Brakes Soon Light came on. He nursed it home, we crawled underneath and found a rusted out brake line leaking brake fluid!! Would you believe? Like my truck, most of his brake lines are severely rusted and need to be replaced. Considering the most important safety factor in a vehicle is the braking system, the metal brake lines should be made of material (e.g. stainless steel) that lasts the life of the vehicle. I don't believe my experiences are isolated incidents and with people keeping their cars longer, or buying used instead of new, the potential for brake lines to rust out and suddenly fail increases. I'm afraid we are seeing the tip of the iceberg here - especially for those who live in the snow states.

I too feel that I have been scammed by GM. I purchased a 2003 Buick Rendezvous , March, 2003, in March of 2006 the engine blew. The engine had sludge in it. I had to replace the engine. I contacted GM and they gave me the cold shoulder, run around, etc. I was told that it was my fault and that I must have never changed the oil, then I produced all of my oil change receipts from the past three years. Since replacing the engine I have continue to have problems with this car, 3rd cylinder misfiring, water pump goes out. I have had to rent a car for a period of over two to three months while my Lemon was in the shop. Three years ago the engine blew now the service engine soon light is back on again after I was told all the car needed was a tune up and to replace spark plugs and wires. Dealership called today, May 1, 2009, and said that both heads are cracked and need replacing. How much more of this will I have to endure before GM takes the Lemon back and makes me whole again. I am spending between $300 to $400 every few months to keep the car on the road. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. Please help me

Coolant from my 2002 Buick Rendezvous (with less than 70K) disappears from coolant tank (intake or heads). Radiator went out last year. The A/C condenser went out 2 years ago. It had no heater for two years. Front bearings are making noise (falls under a recall). Battery has gone out more times than I can count. Car won't start from time to time. I was told BCM problem. It had a lifter noise from time to time. When turning from a stop, sometimes the traction control light comes on and car will not accelerate (very dangerous new problem). The gas gauge of course works only from time to time. The electrical problems are too long to list them all. I had no major accidents, minor scrapes only. Junk! The car for the last 2 1/2 years can only be driven short distances to avoid overheating due to the coolant loss.

I contacted Reynolds Buick about the coolant loss and they said they had no known recalls or known problems (2 years ago). I also asked about A/C problem when it went out, same answer, no known problems. I am very unhappy with the short use this SUV has given us. I was a mechanic for 20 years, had my own shop. I replaced the radiator when it began to leak/ so I did both radiator and condenser together (condenser failed first drove without A/C for a while). The sad part is the condenser is out again. I have been watching the coolant just disappear knowing a major problem would follow. We choose to keep driving 3 miles each way to work. There is no coolant in the engine oil so I figured the engine has no fear of failure. The problems listed above are very common to this car I found out looking on Edmond's just a few days ago. I now know that Buick/GM is well aware of the problem/s. The worst part, the BCM issue has never been resolved as well as the intake gasket/head gasket. They of course can be replaced and the same problem will happen again in a few years later (never resolved issue from what I have read).

With the cars new traction control issue, it is no longer safe to even drive around the block. I think it very sad that GM knows of these defects. I have only been contacted about the bearings. The problems have not been resolved in any way. There is no new BCM without problems. The dex-cool issue, I was never made aware of. I have cleaned out the coolant tank several times due to the strange rust color/scale/sludge build up in it. It has never failed emission test. The oil has been changed on time. The SUV is very clean inside and out. I have never had it back at Buick. I have called them and/or gone down to talk to them in person about the issue listed above. They charge of course just to pop the hood open. They said none of my problems would be covered by GM (General Mistake). They made me feel/understand I was the only one with these problems. Why spend so much money trying to fix what they cannot fix properly anyway. We are lucky my wife works walking distance from the house. If not, this SUV would have failed to be of any use years ago.

My car is a 1996 Buick Regal GS. The recall was for 1997? There was something on CNN about the recall on the 1997 (I missed the program, my daughter-in-law called me this morning to tell me about it). After going online, I saw this report to fill out and was hoping to be contacted about my vehicle that caught fire in Oct. 2007. I called a Buick company in Metairie, LA and they said they no longer have parts to fix the car (the fuel lines that burned). So, I bought another part that I also needed that burned. Now a year plus, I still can't find out how to get my car fixed (I'm on SS and cannot afford a whopping repair bill and can't seem to get any answers). Please, if you can assist me in any way to get GM to fix my car, I would appreciate it. B\I bet I am not the only owner of a 1996 Buick GS that had the fire problem. Also, my engine is a 3.8. I owned a 1999 Buick Regal and had only one payment left on the vehicle. In 2003, I drove it to church, went inside, and the car caught fire. It burned everything in the engine compartment. I had to get a rental car and wait for insurance company to settle. Once paid by the insurance company, which was not enough to get another vehicle of equal quality, I had to add money to that to get another car. GM has just issued a recall for this very reason. I find it absurd that a parked vehicle caught fire and no one (Insurance, GM) saw the need to investigate. With only one payment left, I more than paid for this vehicle, not to mention taxes and insurance costs only to lose it with very little compensation. I'm sure it has been too long to do anything about this now but I wanted to at least voice my complaint.

I just found out about the GM gaskets being faulty. I have a 2001 Buick Regal 3.8L. that I purchased in January 09. The SES light was on. I took it to the shop where I work. The mechanic ran the OBDC tool and it came back with a cat converter code. He told me several things could cause the converter to go bad. The guy I got the car from is the original owner had all service records and I've known him over 10 years. The cat converter was replaced a year ago. Its bad again. The water pump went out a month after I got it. I replaced it. I noticed a thick black grease in the neck of radiator, the oil cap and coolant level sensor. Flushing it for 45 min made no difference. The coolant kept leaking (about a gallon a week). I checked the oil twice a week to make sure it wasn't milky indicating a blown head gasket. No coolant leak under the engine, no radiator leak and there were no leaking hoses. The water had to be going somewhere. The only other place I could think of is the exhaust. So, I checked it out last week and what do ya know! Antifreeze dripping out of a small crack in the muffler. When I added water to the radiator that day, for the first time the coolant was full of bubbles like someone blowing in it through a straw.

Problems consisted of peeling paint (horrible), oil pan drip (never able to repair), two auto windows quit working (one was replaced because you cannot just buy the part but have to replace the whole auto window - one I just pulled up and left and was never able to use that window again), many expensive brake repairs on this car and the last thing was that the transmission exploded while driving in downtown (Charlotte) rush hour traffic.

Buick Window Motor Failure: (Known Buick defect) My Buick LeSabre Limited had a window motor failure at 60 mph this weekend which caused a dangerous driving correction while in heavy traffic. The fact that kept us from a serious or fatal accident was the adept driving of my daughter.
Today, the repairs were estimated by Grayson Motors to be between $500.-$600.00 for a complete repair or $105.00 just to jerry rig a temporary repair fix. As an 86 year old on a fixed income the motor replacement repair option was not feasible so I opted for the cheaper option. In reviewing my invoice I note that the part used for the temporary repair cost less than $2.00 and the balance was in labor cost. My issue is that this is a known problem that Buick has not recalled or notified its car owners of the potential danger of this predictable failure. We nearly rolled the car when the window dropped inside the car door and feel that Buick should replace the window motor and recognize their engineering defect. It took less than 30 seconds to find data on-line recording the same problem with other Buick owners. My daughter reports that Grayson Motors was polite and prompt and I do not fault them in anyway.

Now in 2008, the rear passenger side window has failed. All four motors failing (some multiple times) means there is a design problem. I previously owned two Mazda's, one for 12 years and one for 10 years, and never once had to replace a window motor. GM knows about the issues and are letting us foot the bill, while their repair centers reap the benefits of increased business.

I started the car, stepped on the brake and moved the shift lever from Park to Drive. The instant I took my foot off the brake pedal and before I could step on the accelerator the car accelerated at a high rate of speed. We were in the first row of the parking lot, facing the church building. Between our car and the church building was a parkway with large trees and shrubs, a driveway and another area with grass, large trees and shrubs before the church building. I was able to steer around 2 of the trees in the parkway before the car hit a small hill before the parkway curb and became airborne.

Still traveling at a high rate of speed we came down in the middle of the driveway and shot forward hitting the curb, bending my right front rim and going around 2 more large trees. We were now headed straight for the church building. I managed to steer the car so we did not hit the church building head on. We still hit it quite hard and my wife's head cracked the windshield. The car shot off the church building and was headed for a large cross on the church lawn. I steered around the cross and 2 large pine trees and was back in the parking lot where I managed to bring the car to a stop. My wife got an acute concussion and our car was totaled out. We received only $1,400 for the car, even though it was in very good condition before the accident.

One september cold morning with plenty of snow on the ground my car stopped on me as I was taking it to the college to be repaired and they told me I needed a carborator which cost me about 200.00 But before that I had other engine problems that same year which cost me more than 800.00 in repairs at David's Auto Repair Service, LLC. Now I'am having engin problems all over again and this is all within a two year span of time. I thought it was my thermostat because the needle moves very close to the right that warns me that my car is running hot.It did the same thing last year with thermostat but it wasn't my thermostat that needed repairs but the engine. I believe that GM knew all along this would be the case. What has happended to justice for all and accountability for one's actions. With no-fault divorce and no-fault insurance, I'm not supprised we have no-accountability. Why bother with elections when there's not enough blame to go around. 1999 Buick Regal GS. GMC Lacks Accountability in all they do. I discovered a value leak and brought the car into our local mechanic 2 years ago (2006) to get fixed. We take care of our vehicles with regular maintenance. March 2008 Buick determined their value cover oil leak is a safety issue that could cause fires - Recall #07035. We followed the recall instructions and brought the car into the Buick Dealership for repair. We learned the recall item had already repaired by our mechanic by in 2006. But Buick continued to repair the valve cover that was already fixed (go figure) and they (Buick) broke the valve cover and forced me to pay for the new cover noting I was responsible for payment of the part they broke. Yep, cause I went somewhere convenient to my home for something BUICK would not have paid for 2 years ago, it was my fault their mechanic broke my car because my mechanic had worked on it at 101,000 miles (this is very sad... no accountability to their people)! I appealed this decision to GMC and submit for reibursement for the original work done by my mechanic as well as the valve cover they broke. I had all the receipts and documentation on what was repaired and when. GMC reviewed my claim and they agreed completely that I should be reibursed and approved Full payment. In fact, they called me to advise me I would be fully reimbursed for all of my costs! I should receive a check in 2 to 3 weeks. That was in May 2008. Today I recieved a voicemail that GMC reversed their decision to reimburse for full cost incurred due to a recall of your Buick. Nevermind that this was a huge safety risk - they would only pay for one specific value something or other... wishy washes technical detail. You can either fix the leak or not! But in the end, I am not clear why they changed their mind, and they admit they changed their mind, reducing the full payment of $523 down to $142. And of course I will receive a check in 2 to 3 weeks again... I have been dealing with this for 2 months now. I can understand why they are struggling to survive as a company. I was a 30 year customer... but no more... They need to own their problems and learn to be accountable. The public will not put up with this type of customer service any longer. Not to mention, the stress and concern it placed on us driving this car until the identified how they were going to fix it!

After coming home from an eight day stay in two hospitals (August of 2007), I was with my wife to get my medicine. We came out of Walgreens and our 1999 Buick Park Avenue would not turn over. All the dash lights would come on and nothing more. We called the dealer we had bought it from in April of 2007(a non GM dealer) and he had it towed to their repair facility. After they examined the engine, they informed me that the intake manifold had failed and had leaked into the engine, basically ruining everything the coolant had come in contact with.

This repair cost me over $800, which coming after my hospital stay, was hard to come by. The service manager, who was a former service manager at a GM dealer, told me this was a common problem with these engines and said the new fix manifold should take care of the problem. As I have continued to read about this situation, I am amazed that this problem is so widespread. Has Buick issued a recall for a problem they have to know about? If they have not, why?

We like the car, but have found some problems are too common for a car whose price in 1999 was over $35,000. I feel sorry for American workers who are beginning to lose their jobs due to consumers buying foreign, and in most cases, more reliable vehicles. What is a consumer to do. A decent car is now over $25,000 and I want my money's worth.

We were without our vehicle for one week while it was repaired and parts ordered. We had just had the plugs, plug wires and other electrical work done just before this happened. Some of that work had to be re-done, but our dealer deducted some of that work from the intake manifold work. We have also had an A/C situation three times and the driver's side seat has totally broken down in its padding. Our car, although a 1999, only has 70,000 miles

I drove my 2000 Buick Regal GSE to P.O. Box, UPS, and Lunch. Returned home after driving approx. 50 miles, parked car in front of garage at 3:45 PM. I began checking E-mail on computer. about 10 minutes after arriving home I heard an unusual noise outside. Went to door and saw smoke rolling under eaves and thought we had fire in garage.

Checked garage and found no fire so went outside to find fire coming out grille of car and flames reflecting under car. Grabbed garden hose and started spraying thru grille and around hood. It continued to get worse and my wife brought a 10 lb. ABC fire extinguisher from the garage and I used it until empty. It did not stop fire but slowed damage until Firemen arrived ten -fifteen minutes later. They put foam on car and cut hood in half to access fire to put it out. I have no idea how fire started, as the car was running perfectly up until it burned.

I checked on internet and found this engine package is under investigation in Pontiacs. It is the 3800 V6 with Supercharger. If the car would have been unoticed or parked in garage the damage would have been tremendous and could have led to loss of life. The fire makes the car not moveable because you can't get it out of park because wiring is shorted. The motor mounts, radiator, wiring, hoses, battery, grille, plastic, rubber, and aluminum parts are melted. Fenders, hood, are damaged, windsheild cracked. Because I heard the noise, we were handy and quickly called firemen, had large fire extinguisher handy, water hose available we avoided disaster. But the car is a total wreck.

I will not be looking for another Buick even though I have bought several before for my business and personal use. Since GM uses this Engine package on several Cars, Chevy, Buick, and Pontiac I may not want a GM car again.

Engined fire destroyed car and estimate value at $8,000.00. It could have been easily $500,000 if it had destroyed our house and more if you value my wife and my life. I do value my family first and that is something should be done about these GM engines.

In January 2002 I bought a new 2002 Buick Century with a 3.1 liter engine. I started seeing drips of radiator fliud on the garage floor at approx. 46,500 miles. It turned out to be the intake manifold gasket leaking in the back mostly. My mechanic said that he has seen many like that and was always surprised that GM did not issue a bulletin and have them replaced.

He said they were plastic and he did not think they were suitable for the temperature. The new replacements they sell now are of much better quality. I decided to have the gaskets replaced and when the intake manifold was removed they found that the aluminium heater tubing, that runs within the manifold and is pressed into the housing where it comes through and connects to the area near the thermostat, was also leaking. There was no way to fix this leak, so I had to purchase a new manifold. They also found that the water pump was leaking and needed to be replaced.

This, in my opinion, should not have happened at such low mileage. I then contacted the Buick divison customer service department. The lady answering took all the information and had me hold while she contacted a service technician. When he came online I relayed all this information to him. He said he was sorry for all the problems and asked what I expected GM to do about it since I was out of warranty.

I told him I was very disappointed to have this much repair costs at such a low mileage and I thought GM should bear some of the cost due to to what appeared to be poor quality parts on that engine.

While walking to the car the other day I noticed the whole roof was peeling off in sheets about the size of basketballs. By the end of the day the wind had lifted all the paint off the roof and much of the hood.

Needless to say I wasn't going to drive the car looking like this so I brought it to the body shop to get painted. This was a cost of $1000 for the hood and roof. What's a recall for if they are not going to honor it.

The intake manifold on my 1998 Buick is made of plastic. After only 55,000 miles the exhaust gases eat thruogh the plastic and connect a water passage with the rest of the vacume chamber of the intake manifold.

This results in a lost of coolent if you are lucky. If you are not like me it results in a hydro lock of your engine which resulted in a engine which is unfixable. The cost of a new engine will be around $6000. why has this part not been recalled?

My 1996 Buick Regal sedan has huge pieces of paint falling off of the primer coating. I heard through an auto mechanic friend that GM had bad primer during the time that my car was manufactured. I went to the GM site and registered my vehicle and keep receiving an internal error message when trying to view the recall information for my vehicle. I find this a bit odd since all of the other site menu options work without any problem!
My only inconvience appears to be the lack of funds to investigate or repair this rather large problem. I am currently a student at Penn State Univ, a single mother of three young daughters, and working for not much above minimum wage. I would just like to know if GM is responsible for the repair of my obviously faulty paint job?!

Once the warranty expires, there's not much hope of getting any help from the manufacturer, unfortunately.

1999 Buick Park Avenue, used, bought from a Buick Dealer, 7/2001, with 30,000 miles on 3.8 liter engine. Jump to 4/2002, 57,000 miles. Car overheated because it ran out of antifreeze. Filled up and drove some more. Then car wouldn't start. Towed it to repair shop. They said the "plastic intake manifold" had burnt a hole at the EGR valve causing antifreeze to enter the cylinders and foul out the plugs. Estimate of repair, $800.00.
GM Customer Service said that to even consider warranty, I had to get it to a dealer. Towed to original Buick dealer from which it was bought. They confirmed the diagnosis, and that mine was the 10th one they had seen with this problem in a year. The first repair shop said mine was the 4th they had seen in 6 months. That's 14 broken plastic intake manifolds that I know of on 3.8 liter GM engines between two auto repair facilities. It makes me wonder how many there actually are that have been replaced?

The dealer said no warranty because I had refused to purchase the $900 extended warranty when I bought the car.
