What is Enterprise Rent-A-Car?

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a global vehicle rental service company that offers a wide selection of vehicles to travelers or those who need a short-term vehicle.

Drivers can find an Enterprise rental location in most major airports and other locations throughout the country. If you use rental cars regularly, you can subscribe to Enterprise and take advantage of benefits such as access to a range of vehicles and insurance, maintenance and roadside assistance for just one monthly payment. Subscribing with Enterprise also lets you swap out vehicles up to four times in a month.

From compact sedans to minivans, trucks and luxury cars, Enterprise makes it easy to reserve, rent and return rental cars across the country.

How does Enterprise work?

The first step in renting a car through Enterprise is the reservation process. As you browse its online inventory of rental cars, you’re asked to input information such as:

  • The type of car you want
  • Pickup location
  • Drop off location
  • Pickup/drop off dates
  • Additional coverage options
  • Added features (car seats, GPS, snow chains)

Once you’ve input this information, Enterprise will produce a list of vehicles that meet your needs.

Picking up the car
Once you’ve made your reservation, pick up your rental car on the predetermined date at an Enterprise location. An agent helps you locate the car on the property and do a walkthrough to take note of any damages or issues with the car before you take it. After signing some paperwork, you’re free to take the car for your agreed-upon rental.
Additional options
During the reservation process, you will sign a damage waiver that covers minor damage to the rental car such as scratches or dents. This is an optional protection plan, but any minor damages to the rental car will come out of pocket if you choose not to sign a damage waiver.

Drivers can also add personal accident insurance or personal effects coverage at the time of their rental for an additional daily charge. These insurances are optional, and the cost varies based on the location where you are renting the car.

If you are worried about losing your keys, running out of gas, or getting locked out of your car, you can add roadside assistance protection to your reservation so that you aren't charged out of pocket for these roadside incidents.

Returning the car
When it is time to return the car, drive it to the predetermined drop off location. During drop off, an Enterprise agent will perform a walk-through inspection again to ensure the car has not been damaged.

The agent will also check that the car has been refueled. If you choose not to fill up the gas tank, you will be charged the company’s gas rate, which is usually more expensive than the local pump price. If you are picking up a rental car at the airport, you can prepay for fuel, which lets you return the car without worrying about filling it up.

If you need your rental car for a few days longer, you can call the Enterprise location and ask if the car is available for an extension. There are no penalties for returning your car early, but you can only return your car to a non-airport location during business hours. Enterprise locations within the airport usually allow returns after hours.

How to rent a car with Enterprise

To secure a rental car, you must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable form of payment and meet the rental location’s minimum age requirements. Most rental locations set their minimum driver age at 25 but may allow drivers between 21 and 24 to rent a car with a “youthful driver surcharge” of $20 a day. You will also be required to put down a deposit that varies by location.

The cost of your rental car depends on a variety of factors, including how long you have the car, what type of car you choose, your rental location and any insurance or additional products you select. Below are a few examples of the most common types of rental car selections and the cost for a week.

Enterprise FAQ

What does Enterprise car rental insurance cover?

Enterprise offers three different tiers of car rental insurance. There is the basic damage waiver that covers minor damages to the car, the personal accident insurance that covers the driver and the passengers in the car if there's an accident and the personal effects coverage that covers the driver, any passengers in the car and drivers of other vehicles if you’re liable.

What time does Enterprise open?

Most Enterprise locations open at 6 a.m., but this can vary between locations, so it's important to check before you rent a car.

What time does Enterprise close?

Some locations close at 5 p.m., while others are open much later. Operating hours depend on the location.

    Midwest City in Oklahoma went above and beyond to help us get a vehicle to rent at the last minute after sustaining a transmission failure in our personal vehicle. I can’t say enough about the kind staff- especially Imani ** who worked tirelessly to help us. We were traveling back to Texas from a camp and had a lot of luggage and miscellaneous. We had to bring it into the office where the staff allowed us to sit and wait with luggage in tow while they worked to get us a rental. Everyone checked on us frequently while Imani was processing returns and getting customers their reserved vehicles. I can’t say the other locations in OKC were as helpful but Midwest City is top notch!

    I recently rented from Enterprise in Richmond BC, Canada. After trying to rent an economy car from Hertz/Thrifty/Dollar in my neighbourhood in Vancouver only to be bluntly told that they only had minivans for rent (really? Three different companies under the same roof and that's the best you can do?). No explanation, no apology, no offer to try and find something suitable. I left, and crossed the bridge into Richmond to try Enterprise.

    What a totally different experience! The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They apologized for keeping me waiting for five minutes. Although they didn't have any economy cars right at the moment they upgraded me to a compact, which turned out to be a beautiful Hyundai Kona with only 7000k on it and more options than I've ever seen. I wasn't sure how many days I would need it for but it wasn't a problem to renew the rental twice; I went back to the office both times but they said I could have just phoned them. Everyone I dealt with was wonderful. Special thanks to Rahul for all his help. Will rent there again without hesitation.

      I had rented a car for one week together with my Family. The guy of this location was very friendly and attentive, he went over the rental agreement and inspected the car. He provided his card and advised if I had any questions or issues, to contact him directly. Upon our return of the rental car, we were approached by Yann. Also very friendly as well, asked how was everything with the car, he went over the car and ensure that we had filled the gas tank as well. He proceeded in asking how I wanted the receipt and I had stated via email. We were truly grateful so shout to the team, the manager and of course Yann THE MAN. I recommend all to rent from this location again!

      The manager Ken sent messages as soon as I rented and then when I returned making sure that I had an excellent rental. I choose to only rent from the Bartow location because I have been to other ones in the area and they are not customer service oriented. The previous manager Justin always went above and beyond for any requests I had and I was sad to know he had moved on to other places, but Ken is filling his shoes just fine!! Always wish the prices were lower but that’s not the employee’s fault, it’s the greed of corporate executives and the dynamic of the lowest employee gets the least income and the brunt of all customer complaints!!! So they are to be acknowledged when they are doing a fantastic service to the customer!!!!

      I recently rented a vehicle at Burbank Airport from Enterprise. It was the BEST SERVICE I have EVER received from a car rental company! Usually, when renting a car, I go from the counter to a row and number and am on my own to make sure it is the correct car, figure out how to work all the controls, etc. This time, a person escorted me to my vehicle, showed me the various controls, and even paired my phone to the Bluetooth in the car. Never has that been done before. Very impressive. When I returned the car, there was a person there to receive it, asked me if there were any problems, how was my trip, etc. Also a rarity - often there isn't anyone available for a hand-off or any instructions. Kudos to the team there!

      I want to start by saying that my complaint is about Enterprise as a corporation, not my local Enterprise location. The people that work at that location were not the issue. We reserved a minivan weeks ahead of time. When we arrived, we were told that there were no mini vans and no large SUVs available and we were given a small compact SUV. That was annoying, but I realized that this was completely out of their control. They apologized profusely and even gave me a free day. When we got to our destination, we realized that the passenger side rear door would not open. Not from the inside, and not from the outside. I would say that that is a major safety hazard.

      I contacted Enterprise customer service to report this as a safety issue. I was given a very cold reply and was told that they would make sure that the people that worked at the location gave me better customer service next time. I explained that that wasn’t my complaint and that I was surprised that the safety issue wasn’t being taken more seriously. This person‘s response was, “I don’t recall, saying I didn’t take it seriously.” Lots of sarcasm and a lack of concern. Buyer beware. They do not care.

      First I will say that the staff at the I-45 Spring, Texas location was great. I took my car to the body shop and they brought me a car to drive but I had requested an SUV. It took them a few days but finally got me into the SUV. My dissatisfied experience started after the return of the vehicle when I received a bill from a place called Toll pass go for 3 weeks of the hardy toll way Mon-Friday was 187.73 they are charging me 3.00 for a 1.50 toll and on top of that a 34.95 service fee. I was never told that the tolls would be charged double nor was I told that their would be a service fee charged. Just want everyone to be ware of this Toll charge.

      ​I am writing this review to warn others about the unreliable service at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the Turtle Run/Coral Springs location. ​I booked an SUV reservation three weeks in advance, specifically to ensure I would have the vehicle class I needed. When I called ahead today for pickup after visiting the branch the day before to make sure I would avoid being without my rental, I was informed that they did not have an SUV available for me.

      ​Having a reservation confirmed weeks in advance is a contract of service, not a suggestion. To call and be told there is no vehicle—despite providing ample notice—is a complete failure of basic operations and customer care. This experience has caused significant disruption to my plans and has completely eroded my trust in this specific branch and especially since this is the second time that this has happened so it's really shame on me now.

      ​It is baffling that a company of this size cannot manage its fleet inventory to honor reservations made well in advance. I expect better than to be left stranded due to administrative incompetence. Do not rely on their booking system if you actually need a vehicle. I will say that the staff is kind and professional but I can't put my luggage in them and ride out of town.

      I would use Enterprise periodically as I traveled throughout the year. I reserved a vehicle for pick up at 12 (noon) today 6/26/26. I was a couple hours late getting there because I was at work. When I arrived, I was told they do not have my reservation anymore because I was supposed to be there at 12 noon, and they could not help me. I called their corporate and spoke with a foreign woman who was hard to understand, she told me they had the vehicle I was looking for at a different location, and it was reserved for me to go and get. I ran out the door and headed to Buffalo to get the vehicle, when I arrived at that Enterprise, they did not have any vehicles available. What is going on with this company, and we were not the only family that this happened to today while we were there. I will never use Enterprise in the future for my rental needs; I will also spread the word about the horrible customer service I received from this Location.

      When they take a reservation and you show up expecting to drive to your destination, you should not be told zero vehicles in a 60 mile radius are available. Secondly, you should not be told and made to feel like you’re the one with a problem. Flawed system that allows overbooking all for the sake of not losing business, but at your expense.

      They charged $25 fee for a $1.90 toll!!!! I was hoping to get through to them before that fee was incurred. I was told at the counter that I had 30 days to pay the actual toll to avoid that fee. I attempted to make a call at three different times within that time frame without success in getting through... An hour wait time at one point. I would like to know exactly how I can manage to pay a toll (not the processing fee) when I rent a car with Enterprise if 1) they don't have toll passes at my local enterprise 2) the toll statement takes days to post and 3) when I do call multiple times, I can't get through? It is beyond frustrating to pay that fee which penalizes your customers without an alternatively straightforward way to take care of this. Totally predatory! Frustrated is an understatement.       I reserved a van online, got a confirmation number, then 6 days later I received an email saying it had been canceled and to re-book. I re-booked and then got a text to call the local Enterprise office where I was going to be picking up the van. I was then informed they had no vans available. I then booked a SUV. When I arrived, I was informed the SUV wasn't available. I then booked a more expensive vehicle that was on their lot. It was filthy inside. Don't book with Enterprise!

      We booked a van over the phone and when we got there they didn't have the vehicle that we reserved and they didn't offer us another vehicle. Horrible customer service and the workers are arrogant!!!! Save the headache of dealing with this company and rent from a more reputable rental company.

      I was looking for a 15 passenger van and was confirmed one at a certain location. I received a confirmation, return/pickup time, reservation number. I visited the rental site 3 days before to check and make sure that the driver could pick up the rental since they were a different person than the name on the reservation. The staff notified me that they do not carry a 15 passenger van and they do not understand why the website lets you book it and confirms it. I am so glad that I went by there 3 days before because we would not have been able to take our trip. Luckily, I was able to find a van from a different company. They need to fix this.

      This hot mess journey started with the phone call to Enterprise call center representative who told me that I could use a Debit card to do a one way rental. This was after I SPECIFICALLY ASKED her if I could use the Debit Card for that and she said yes. The day before I was due to pick it up, you folks called to confirm and that is when I found out a Major Credit card was required. So we went early to do the paperwork at 9 instead of the 10 am pickup, and they didn't have the car back yet from the oil change place, but said they were about to go pick it up. At that time, I was told it was going to be a Nissan SUV. I found out later that SUV was a 3-row seating vehicle, which would have worked for me.

      As I had other places to go, told them I'd pick it up later that afternoon. So when I got back to that Watson Blvd location, not only did they not have that SUV, they had a smaller one that would not work for what I needed, and I cancelled the whole transaction. Needless to say, they didn't call me to let me know the vehicle had been switched. So now, I have had to switch my travel plans again and am totally unimpressed with this Enterprise location, and have filed a complaint with USAA regarding the way they treat customers. Before I left that location I asked for the area manager, Henry **, to call me back and still have not heard back from him. This just gets better and better. Hopefully, other Veterans call to file a complaint, as I believe I am not the first person who had to change travel plans due to the way business is done at this location in Warner Robins, Ga.

      For the fourth time in less than a year, I have made a reservation with Enterprise, only to find out a day later that they have no availability. I realize it's an automated system, but for goodness sake, CHANGE YOUR SYSTEM! It is so annoying. If a location does not have the vehicles, don't take the reservation. I have made plans based on thinking I had a vehicle rented, only to find out later that I do not. I know it's not the folks who work the counter, it's the call centre. But it's the poor folks on the front line who take the brunt of it. What is the point of a reservation, if there are no cars available?

      I have been an Enterprise customer for decades. Over the past five years, my company and I have spent tens of thousands of dollars amongst the branches in Massachusetts. This past time is the LAST time I will ever do business with them. Their processes are not customer friendly, they are harassing and rude, and the regional managers do nothing to make things right when they are in the wrong. Being in business myself, I am disgusted by how they treat their customers…. and get away with it!! Only because they know they have you over a barrel because of their presence. There aren’t many options for car rentals outside of the airport, so the number of Enterprise locations provides them with a monopoly where they can literally be as awful as they want.

      I reserved a car online when I came to pick up they didn't have the car I requested SUV. They gave me a van. I was not happy and told them I was not happy. It was like take it or leave it so I took it. When I returned the car I had the nicest young woman. Her name is Hayden ** and she was wonderful. She asked about my experience with the van and I told her I was not happy with it. She was so professional, kind, and really cared about me as a customer. I will come back because of this interaction with Hayden.

      Selection & number of cars available at the 5th ave location in anchorage sucked. I've seen more cars a drive thru coffee shop.. No follow up with checking at the other Enterprise location in town to see availability. No star would be a more fitting rating.
