Walgreens to Pay $1.6 Million in Massachusetts Class Action

Shelley of Oregon City OR writes (6/24/03):
I was charged 8.99 for THREE thyroid pills! I had a lapse in the perscription and had yet to get into my doctors appointment. The doctor called in 3 pills and the drug store 'minimum fill' policy cost me 8.99! Look up the price ... 8.99 for 3 thyroid pills is CRIMINAL.

Chris of Evanston IL (6/24/03):
Prior to minor eye surgery to remove a chalazion, I was prescribed a mild sedative because I was very apprehensive about the surgery. I was prescribed only one tablet but was charged the price of more than one because they said that Walgreen's policy is to charge a minimum amount of money regardless of the amount of pills prescribed. I was not aware of Walgreens policy prior to purchasing my prescription. I felt I was overcharged for one pill.

Dawn of Peoria AZ (6/23/03):
I recently had to get antibiotics as a pre-operation procedure. Two different prescriptions, 4 pills each. One cost $9.69 and the other was $8.99. Since these were necessary before the operation, I had to buy them, however I think $20 for 8 pills is a little extreme. I did not realize they had the minimum charge policy or I would have went elsewhere.

Jill of Louisville KY (6/23/03):
I didn't realize they charged a "fee", but when I went there to get my son's monthly prescription (usually get it at Krogers), it was $10 MORE than Kroger's! Now I know why! Thanks.

Brianna of Phoenix (6/23/03):
I heard about the issue of Walgreen's charging a minimum of $8.99 per prescription. I knew something must be wrong when I had a prescription for #2 diazepam (generic valium) and I had to pay a $7.00 copay on my insurance plan. The cash price on that must be less than $7.00. I should have asked and been more proactive but at the time I just wanted my medication for a scan I was having.

Marilyn of Santa Barbara CA (6/23/03):
2/24/03 I paid $16.44 for a 3 month supply of Levoxyl. Per our insurance, if we used the Walgren's mail prescription service, we are able to order a 3 month supply for the price of 2 months worth. At a local pharmacy in town I pay about $5 for the Levoxyl, so I thought it was odd I was paying $16.44 for 3 months when I was anticipating paying about $10.
