Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Why are the reward certificate given on each visit last year, now this year and you can't use them if you use the one time? Stop giving them out.

This is a complaint and I did not find anywhere on your website where I could provide my experience at your Brownsville, TX location. So if this can please be forwarded to the correct department I would really appreciate it.

I am currently on your baby registry and received a gift card as a present from one of my friends at my baby shower. She felt a little overwhelmed with how messy the store was and opted for this instead. I went to Burlington to redeem my $25 gift card this week and I understood that the store was very messy because it is going to be closed and reopened at another location.

What bothered me very much was not how messy the store was, but how ignorant my cashier was. So, I bought a Pregnancy Belly Cast Kit, and a jar of candies totaling out in the amount of $25.75. I gave the gentleman my $25 gift card and a dollar bill so I could get 25 cents back. Instead the cashier, being very ignorant, gave me a gift card worth 25 cents! I know this probably sound neurotic, but it seems as if this cashier has no common sense. He defiantly was not logical about how to give me change. Why the ** would I want a 25 cent Gift Card. I think that maybe your employees need to be trained as to how to give cash to your customers. This guy was a complete idiot. Of course, me being the person I am, told him that what he had done was completely dumb. He did not even apologize. Just stuttered and said nothing. It is just 25 cents, I understand. This cashier of yours should just have redeemed the $25 gift card and charged the 75 cents from my dollar.

I was planning on making a trip to Burlington Coat Factory's Baby Depot to get a new stroller. The night before I decided to go on the internet to print a coupon. When I did a Google search, to my surprise, many websites popped up citing problems from several different people being refused the use of their coupons at Baby Depot. I decided to go ahead and go to the store to get what I wanted, hoping that the same thing wouldn't happen to me.
Well, sure enough, my experience was just like the other women who had posted their complaints. I was immediatley told that they wouldn't take it. When I asked why, they called the manager and he said that they wouldn't honor them. He didn't even have the decency to come up and speak to me personally.
So, I asked to see him. He came up, finally, and repeated himself that they wouldn't take it. I asked why and he said that I had photocopied it! When I explained to him that I had downloaded it, he acted like he didn't even hear me and just repeated that he wouldn't accept a photocopy.

I was so embarrassed. He made me feel like I was doing something wrong! My point is this: If you aren't going to accept the coupons, do not make them available on the internet. I am, or was, a loyal customer of Burlington Coat Factory, but this incident has somewhat tainted my feelings toward the store. There are ways to talk to people and this manager definitely didn't have that ability. Frustrating!

I have been a loyal customer of Burlington Coat Factory for years, but after today that changed dramatically. I have always liked shopping at Burlington Coat Factory because you could find name brand items at excellent prices; however, their return policy is the worst one in the industry and their customer service has always been pretty poor.
Today I went in to buy several items for my infant daughter in the Baby Depot department and brought a coupon that I had downloaded from the Internet for $10 off a $50 purchase. (Your typical Burlington Coat Factory offer) The coupon came from a reputable company the Entertainment Book website (http://www.entertainment.com).
After shopping for about an hour, my children and I went to the checkout line. I handed the coupon to the cashier after she had scanned my items. The first thing she said to me (in a very rude tone) was Did you make a copy of this coupon? I told her No, I downloaded it from the Internet from the Entertainment Company website. They sent me a special email to introduce their savings book and I downloaded three coupons as a trial. This coupon just happened to be one of them. The cashier looked at me very questionably and then said, So you can just download multiple copies of this coupon huh? I then replied No, the Entertainment website will not allow you to download multiple copies.
I started to become very upset at what she was implying. She told me that she would need to have her manager look at the coupon. Her supervisor looked like she was making a phone call about the coupon. While we were waiting, the cashier came back and I told her that I would not buy any of the items if they would not honor the coupon. That was the whole reason I made the trip to their store. I then stated that I was not some con artist!

The supervisor came back and said that they would have to call a lady named Phyllis in their corporate office to get approval for the coupon. At this point I became extremely upset because they looked like they were not willing to honor the coupon. I then told the cashier that they were very difficult to do business with and I would not be making any purchases then. I then left the store empty handed.

I purchased a King size comforter set at Burlington. The regular price is 149.99. I had a 20 percent off coupon that I had cut out of a Burlington flier. I was excited that the coupon knocked 30.00 off the price. I paid 119.99 for the set. I took the comforter home and figured out that I actually needed the Queen size instead. I returned it the very next afternoon. The Queen set's original price is 129.99. The cashier then told me, rudely, that I owed her 10.00. I was stunned and asked how could that be.
What happened is that they took the 119.99 price that I paid for the King set and said I owed them 10.00 to make up for the 129.99 Queen set. I understand this math but what about the 20% off coupon? It doesn't seem fair that the store has my 20% off coupon but I didn't get any savings from it. The manager said I could only get the 20% off if I had another coupon.
You know as well as I do that you only give out 1 coupon per customer. I feel as though the company has ripped me off by not honoring the coupon I presented. The only reason I had decided to buy the comforter set in the first place was because of the coupon. I am very frustrated and appalled that no one could help me with this simple problem. All I am simply asking for is the 20% off of the 129.99 Queen Set price.

As a side note, the cashiers were playing football at the checkstand while they are checking out customers. Yes, you heard correctly, I said football. The customer service is horrible. The cashiers are rude and if you ask them a question about something they act completely put off that they have to go through the trouble of helping you. This isn't the first time I have been treated rudely by Burlington Staff. My mother-in-law says they have treated her rudely and were also playing football another day that she was there. I understand that Cashiers don't make that much money and they may feel disgruntled about their job, then they should find another job. I don't think it's fair to your customers to be treated poorly.
