LA Weight Loss - Refunds

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I joined in 2006 approximately for myself and my son. I was talked into a deluxe program and paid $2000.00 through Care Credit. This was in Hyannis, MA. From the start, the program seemed very unstable as I never saw the same counselor twice. After 1 month, the center closed without any notice at all. I went down to get some bars/shakes and the office was empty. I went online and found that the closest office was in Providence, Rhode Island. Other offices in MA had also closed. Then, the company went bankrupt shortly after.

Feeling like a complete fool, I paid Care Credit or GE Moneybank as they are really called for about 3 years to keep my credit good. But I was paying for nothing. I stopped paying in 2009 and tried to work with GE Moneybank through documentation from the web. Meanwhile, the LA Weight Loss online program, a different owner, had no record of me or my son ever joining. Also, GE Moneybank would not reveal any of my statements from past payments. I had always paid them online and had no records. Now I am being sued for $3800.00 by GE Moneybank. I have read hundreds of letters like mine online. My trial is on Nov. 1, 2011. I'm going to get a lawyer to help me hopefully out of this fraud scam!

I know that many people signed up for LA Weight Loss and added more weeks right before they were closing. I dont think most of the employees knew that they were going to be closing, but the company did before they started running these ads to save money. For those of you wanting a refund and you attended any store in Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington state, you should contact Medifast for a refund. The owners of Medifast in those markets was the same franchisee who owned the LA Weight Loss's in these areas. I would contact your Medifast stores to get a refund from what they have now franchiseed Medifast. I would be careful joining Medifast as well, since who knows if they will be doing this again with this company. Contact Medifast to get a refund ASAP before they go out of business too!!!!

I joined 3 years ago and I paid $560.00 in full. They closed their doors and I have never heard from them again. They stole $560.00 from me!

I paid a full program price and was in the middle of my program when they closed the doors. I asked about the potential of them closing (of which I heard a rumor) and of course they all denied it. I was not given all the nutrition bars I paid for, nor the additional weight loss service: $1500 for me and $1500 for my wife.

I belonged to the original LA Weight Loss program. I purchased the program and was happy. I still had money sitting on their books for LA lites. I stopped going due to personal problems and I was never notified that the center was closing. I have about $300. dollars sitting there. It would be nice that I get that money back.

Just recently I received a flyer in the mail that the program is again starting but is called LA to your door. They told me they are not affiliated with the original LA Weightloss clinics. What I would like to know is how I can obtain the money back from the original LA Weightloss clinics? I have recently signed up with the "LA to YOUR DOOR" and it would be nice to be able to apply that money owed to me to this program. Losing $300.00 dollars, hurt. Could have used it.

I joined on January 13, 2007, lost most of my weight and then they closed their doors on November 14, 2008. I had received my first 25% incentive rebate and this one-on-one counseling is what helped me. I spoke to someone on November 12, 2008 that no one had contacted me and they gave me the name Jenny and that she would be e-mailing me her e-mail so I could send my weigh-in each week. On December 3, 2008 I faxed the company telling them I hadn't heard from anyone yet. My last weigh-in was at the office on November 3, 2008. I never got my other 25% rebate because of no personal contact and I gained it back.

LA Weight Loss entered into a contract with me in 2006 to provide services for their weight loss program and rebates when I got to certain parts of their program. After reaching my goal weight, I went on a year's maintenance program. I was supposed to receive a rebate in October 2008 after maintaining my weight six months (which I did, weighing in every week at their facility) and a second rebate for the second six months in April 2009, after working through the phone with their counselors because they closed their doors here. I have yet to receive either rebate and through their website, I emailed a request for help on this for the first rebate, which the manager of the facility I went to told me the rebate paperwork was submitted Sept. 2008. And in February 2009, they contacted me and requested that I fax over copies of my original contract, receipt and rebate form to them.

I faxed everything requested and have never heard from them again. I went over to their facility faithfully for two years and three months to weigh in, weighed all my food, journaled, etc. as my part of contract. Then they closed their doors in October 2008. Then I was supposed to get a counselor call every week through their "LA On the GO" alternative to closing their doors. After multiple calls with no answers, mailboxes full, etc., I finally got a live person and counselors started calling but counselors changed frequently because LA Weight Loss has been closing down their doors across the states. I stopped receiving counselor calls with no notice or explanation. I would ask my counselors every week if they found out anything about my rebate but of course it was always "No". I can't believe they are still advertising on the internet as if they are still legitimate and solvent! They are scamming people all over the US! Look at all the complaints below the LA Weight Loss website address!

I also checked with the Better Business Bureau and they have multiple complaints against LA Weight Loss, which LA Weight Loss never addresses or responds to. I understand the corporate office is in Pennsylvania. I utilized the Telegraph Canyon Road, Chula Vista, CA office until it closed. I'm not sure what to put on the address above since it's no longer there. LA Weight Loss was expensive and part of my incentive and motivation for going with this program was because of the rebates I was supposed to receive back and never did. I am very upset that even with a contract, I'm losing out on a few hundred dollars that I can certainly use, as it looks like many, many others are too and I don't know what can be done about it. Could this be a class action suit?

Joined LA Weight Loss in June 2007. Spent over $1500 in program fees, which included one year of maintanence and rebates and was strong armed into buying bulk supplements for my entire program. Lost the weight to make my goal and began maintanence. Center closed and was told to use the LA on the Go program which is on the phone for support and maintanence but the phone number does not work. They promised I'd get my $400 worth of rebates and it seems I will not.

Obviously, the economic damage of having over six months left of the program and then $400 worth of rebates as my contract indicated I would earn if I maintained my goal. I certainly feel some mental/emotional damage as they left me without support and advice. They basically abandoned all their customers who prepaid for their services.

I signed up with LA weight loss 7/06 with a 6-month maintenance period with rebate programs at 2 increments during this period. My maintenance date started 2/17/07 with first check due ($156.37) in August, 2007. Staff kept telling me it takes 10-12 weeks to be processed. Unfortunately, this check never was processed; and henceforth, my next and last rebate check was due 12/17/07. It was never processed as they were closing their doors.

I also had been encouraged to pre-purchase their bar supplements to get me through maintenance which I did, and again I am due $608.42 for the bars that I had purchased. In total, I have been robbed of $921.16. This is outrageous as I had signed a contract and had followed their program and their suggestions to the "T". I have 4 children in college, I work full time to support them, and then to be taken for this much money. I am asking for your support and guidance.

I was a member there, and due to being out of the country for a few months I was not able to go there. I come back, and the premises are closed down. What is going to happen to the money that I paid? I would like to get that money back.

My husband and I became members at LA Weight Loss in 7/07. They changed their name to Pure Weight Loss and then went out of business, never notifying us of this matter. We went there to pick up our food which we paid $500 in advance on their charge card Care Credit by GE Bank, but the door was closed and the place was empty. We tried notifying them but no one answers the phone.

It cost us $450 between us to join and another $500 for charging the snacks that we were picking up every month. We only received one month worth of food, never received the rest due us, but paid for the total amount of $500. We would like to get a refund for this and would like our membership refunded also since we only had 5 months' worth.

I joined Pure Weight Loss on October 8, 2007. I paid $651.15 for the LA lite bars that you must purchase with the program. Nicole did not charge me to join up since I was a returning customer. A few days later, I decided to cancel and I called and spoke to the district manager who promised that my American Express card would be credited. It has been more than three months and my money was not returned to me. I heard the centers were closing, so I visited the center. Nicole gave me a copy of the transaction's detailed report and told me that my refund was processed on October 30, 2007. To date, I have not received my $651.15 and no one is answering any of the phones for Pure Weight Loss. I am a poor woman and I need my money from Pure Weight Loss.

I signed up on 8-25-06 with LA Weight Loss expecting to lose 26 lbs. On Sept.12th found out I was pregnant and froze the program. I had lost maybe 4 lbs. at this point and hated the Bars that I was told I needed. I had my child in May. I went in on July 5, 2007 to cancel this after getting the runaround for a week--and one person telling me I had to like the program and bars because she has NEVER heard of someone who didn't.
On November 29, 2007--six months later--I have NOT received my full refund that I had to fight for. I was told at first I could not cancel, and when I stood firm was told I wouldn't get much back. I was then informed that from the date I should have had my baby, the program automatically started back up without so much as a phone call. I was due back $195 out of almost $500.00, not counting my bars which I was stuck with. I then received two separate refunds but am still waiting on my third one. The center I signed up at doesn't have a file on me anymore so tomorrow Corporate will hear from me.

I wasted a lot of time and energy on this and still want the final refund.

When I signed up for the program, I refused to purchase the bars. After several weeks of not losing weight, I was told I should purchase the bars. I objected indicating I was allergic to some of the contents and they made me feel ill. Again I was told the diet would not work wihtout them but if I had a reaction, my money could be refunded. They received my money, I never received the bars as I had a reaction after the first one or two. I requested my money back for the items never received. I was told the money would be refunded but I never received it.

I found out on Friday, Sept. 21st that the Bend Center was closing from a friend. I went to Bend & talked with them about a refund, transferring to another center, getting the LA Lites I was still owed. They gave me the information that I could transfer my 57 weeks ($564.30) to another center or take it in products and they would order the 22 boxes of LA Lites that I still had coming. They told me I had until next week to decide. They would not refund in money only products.

I called on Monday, September 24th to make sure they were still open and told them I would be in on Wednesday, September 26th. I just drove to Bend from Redmond. They are closed. am owed $795.30 by the calculations they gave me on Friday.

I joined on Jan. 18 2007 and signed a contract. When I got home, I realized that I had agreed to buy the supplement bars for the length of the program (53 weeks). I called back that day and told them I will not be buying the bars at $29.00 a box. Julia told me no problem they just made the bars mandatory last week so I would not be required to purchase them if I did not want them. Today I went in and was told that if I did not purchase more I could not continue the program.

I explained the situation to the district manager who was sent in to review all the files that day and was told that Julie was no longer with them for the reason that she was telling clients false information. There is nothing she can do and will try to get me a refund of my unused portion of the program.

Started with LA weight loss. Spent about $2000 and now they closed. I want my money back. I am out that money and I have two small children. I cannot afford to give away my money.

I went in on the 8 Week Special and was told about the cost being $7 a week, then a $149 joiners fee, but they would take $98 off that price as part of the special deal. I signed a contract, after reading more carefully; I realized I was in for over $800. Then I returned to cancel within the 3-day grace period and was given a signed rebate for 50% off ($400) once I reached my goal of 30 pounds in 17 weeks and 6 weeks maintenance, which seemed okay.

Then my next appointment, after the grace period had expired, I was told that I HAD to buy the supplements and I HAD to by the products (LA Lites) and that was in the contract that I signed. Although when I first signed up I was told I was under no obligation to buy any other product, that were available for my convenience. By the way--nowhere in the contract does it say it is mandatory to buy the products, only that the price is not included in membership.

When I went to request a refund, I was told I couldn't get a refund for the supplements I purchased, even though I had not taken the supplements out of the building. I was then given the remaining bottles I had purchased in bulk at the discounted price, & that was the reason I was told I couldn't get my money back...they were purchased on sale. I had never opened the bottles I had been given, but I was told that they left the premises, and they are considered drugs, so I couldn't bring them back. I was given the remaining bottles I was supposedly owed since I couldn't be refunded the costs. These are bottles of vitamins, minerals, herbs. Unopened bottles of supplements...not drugs, & if they were drugs why are non medical personnel selling them?

$639.33 is the amount not refunded. Also, I never received a copy of the bulk sale of the supplements, only a copy of the program agreement & the LA AT Home Online service (which I was refunded.

Went in to discuss their weight loss program after seeing an on-line advertisement that said pay $5 per week. At time of appointment, I chose to enroll although was told I would have to pay my 2 year program costs all up front. I didn't understand why they said 5 per month but was desperate at this point so I signed up. Was told that the there was a non-refundable enrollment fee of 149.00 that I would not be able to recover; however, the remaining program costs would be recoverable if the program was not working for me. Total program cost was $480.60.

At a 2nd appointment, I was told that to ensure optimal weight loss, it was strongly recommended I purchase LA Lites to assist with my weight loss. While I was told it was not a requirement, the purchase of these bars was required to get my weight loss guarantee. For a bulk rate discount, I purchased all of the bars I would need for my weight loss phase in advance: this cost me approximately $700.00.

Very quickly into the program I discovered the program was not in fact a lifestyle but a fad diet. Additionally, I found out a few days after signing up that I will need to begin traveling several days a week as a part of my job and this program will not work given they require you visit the office 3 times a week. I (within 10 days of enrolling) went back to the center to ask for the appropriate refunds. I was told they do not have a refund policy and a Regional Manager would have to call me to discuss my options.

This is ridiculous. I showed them my contract that said only the enrollment fee would not be refunded and by the way I didn't even have all of the bars I purchased in my possession so I demanded a refund. Again, I was told there was no refund policy and the Regional Manage would need to call me. I immediately upon leaving the clinic, called Amex (bought the bars on amex and wrote a check for the program costs) and asked they make a billing inquiry and suspend the charge given a refund was not granted to me. I will have to now battle with the Regional office to get the program costs refunded. I understand I will lose the $149 in nonrefundable charges but legally I feel I am entitled the remaining refund.

When I signed up for the program, I was told that if I kept my weight within 5 lbs. of my goal weight, I would be given a refund of $144 at six months and then again at the end of my program. I achieved both goals. I finished the program in Nov.2005 and have yet to receive my refund of the second $144, despite several phone calls and a letter.

No one has ever returned any of my phone calls, nor has there been a response to my letter. Every time I have called, I am told "the cheque is coming". Four months for a refund is completely irresponsible and inappropriate. I am currently considering my next steps of action. Why no one from LA Weight loss has contacted me to even give the status of my refund is beyond me.

I had bought several box's of weight loss bars that was suppose to cover the entire time that was needed to lose 40 lbs. I could not commute from Vacaville to Sacramento any longer and was no longer interested in LA weight loss, I asked for a refund, and that they could keep the bars and they said I had to take the bars home, I bought them and I cannot get a refund or credit my acct., the bars at the time were in their possession.

So now I have a bill on a credit card that they opened for me in the remaining balance of $800.00. I end up having to take the bars home and I gave them to friends. I want to know if they could still credit my acct and close it. I did not want to take the bars from the center, but they said I had to.

I went to LA Weight Loss for a free consultant. They said that I had to pay the enrollment fee of $149 before they could explain the program to me, but it was fully refundable if I chose not to go with them. I paid the fee and an extra $150 for the program.

The next day I called the manager to cancel. I was told that was okay and within 14 days I would be receiving my $300 refund. That was 11-01-05 and I still have not received my money. I call every day and get a different story. My next step will be to file a claim at a small claim court.

I joined LA Weight Loss in January of 2005 after having a baby in November. I paid for 19 weeks of weight loss, 6 weeks of stabilization, and 52 weeks of maintenance. I was high pressured in to purchasing LA weight loss products as well stating that if I did not buy them now, the costs would significantly go up. I asked what I was paying $8.00 per week for (i.e. what services I would be getting for the money). I was told that I would get counseling, a weekly blood pressure check, and a monthly measurement check. The counselor (Julie) showed me what questions the counselors would be asking me and told me I must come in at least three times per week.

I informed her at this time that I often traveled for work and would only be able to come in 1 to 2 times per week, but would try for more as able. She said this would be fine. The program I joined up for stated that I would get half of my money back after losing the weight and another half after maintaining the weight loss for 6 months. Julie did not inform me that I would not qualify for the refund if I did not come in 3 times per week or buy LA products. I found this out later.

I did well on the program for the first four months. After this time I had to travel a good deal and my weight loss stopped although I was still following the program. I went to the Dr and was told that my thyroid was the problem. I was feeling very ill and asked my counselor if I could take a break until I felt better. She (Julie) told me this was no problem and to just let them know when I wanted to start back. Weekly I would receive a call from the center and I thought this was to just check on me. They did not tell me that while they were "checking" on me they were using up the weeks I had paid for.

I complained to the manager Marcy but had to purchase more weeks to cover the balance of my weight loss. I was told by Marcy that I was not allowed to use stabilization or maintenance weeks for weight loss and if I wanted to keep coming in I would need to purchase more. I complained at this time that I was not getting what I had paid for.
