story)into something called United Online and are struggling along trying to provide not-quite-so-cheap Internet service under both brand names. Along the way, a few customers have gotten burned. See below. Mary of Bay Shore, NY August 14, 2009 I called them on 8/12/09 to cancel my subscription to Net Zero(too slow) and spoke with Jada who told me the account was cancelled any I would receive an e mail confirmation of this. I got an e mail confirmation congratulating me on my new accout with net zero. DEBORAH of PALMDALE, CA August 9, 2009 I signed up for this service to try it out. On the website they offered to give me a free website for my personal use. I thought it was free bit I found out that my bank account had been charged the amount of 19.99. I have not received this money back after I had cancelled it and I don't know what to do. Gwendolyn of Lithonia, GA August 4, 2009 I called netzero to cancel my service and explained to the representative that I would no longer be using any credit cards and to please send me a bill for the amount I owed. 16.90. The rep told me she could not send me a bill and they would have to send it to collection. She also told me she would put it on suspension for 2 months. I don't want any suspension. All I want is a bill for the 16.90 so that I can pay it and be done with it. It should not be this difficult to get a bill and pay it off. This sounds awfully suspicious to me. You make me feel as though you will continue to bill me when I clearly want to discontinue the service. Please send me a bill promptly and I will definitely send the final payment as soon as I receive the bill. Jamie of Marietta, GA July 25, 2009 I canceled my account with Netzero in 2007. I just now see charge on my account for 9.95 for 7/14.09. I called and was told my account was activacated in 2008. I did not activate my account and on further investigation, found Netzero had charged my account in Feb, March & July '07 total 29.85. I can not go backwards, so I am making sure they do not stick it to me again. I have confiremed my cancellation and I have confirmed the cancellation confirmation numberis valid. Margaret of Woodland, WA July 23, 2009 signed up for free trial. called to cancel 2 weeks later and was told I would not be charged, but 2 weeks after that was charged 9.95. Called and talked to customer service. I repeated over and over, "I don't want to call back and cancel again, and I don't want any more money coming out of my checking account." I had to repeat this 8 times to various different "offers." we'll see if I get charged next month. If so I will close my checking account. This is pure and simple theft; I think scam is too tame of a word, that customers call and cancel and still get charged. How are they getting away with it? Fortunately I had the money in the account to cover the charge, or I would have been charged a 33.00 overdraft fee for a 9.95 charge. I lost at least an hour of work while on the phone with them. Kisani of tucson, AZ July 17, 2009 I signed up for a free month of net zero. then they said they would be charging me 7.47 per month for 'high speed' and I couldn't get the free month. Then they offered me some 'games' & something else that they said was a free gift & i should just go to a site to accept it. I thought it didn't matter so I never visited the site & therefore thought I hadn't gotten the "free gift". I called to cancel the next month and they said I was being charged 18.95 because I didn't call in to cancel the "free gift". They also said, "Rest assured, you will not receive any more bills from Net Zero". But, after seeing the comments/complaints from others, I'm going to call my credit card company to record a dispute of that & any future claims. I hope I have somehow added my voice to the complaints to save someone else the hassle of falling for anything "free" netzero has to offer. Their web service is not worth the trouble they make it to cancel. karen of landrum, SC July 13, 2009 dear sirs; i am on disiability 674.00 a month the only in come i got and no food stamps..any wat on may 15 2009 i signed up for net zero dial up internet service i was told a month free then 9.99 amonth afther the free month.. but on june 13 2009 two days before the thirty day free trial was up i cancelled net zero. and i decided to go with msn dial up which is three months free and payment not due to september 2009. but now net zero and msn all dial up services say that any access# to dial up may be long distance and show up on your phone bill. i except that part because my phone company is global connection and my third party long distance is at@t long distance unlimited local nation wide etc. and their was no charges on my recent phone bill i just payed. but if their had been charges it would be with or on my phone bill not net zero.but july 1 2009 t got my direct deposit on my direct express debt card paid bills etc. then on july 2 2009 i went to bilos my card kept showing declined so iwas puzzeled and embarresed. so i got home called direct express they found out that net zero took off my card without my permission or authorization 115.00 dollars and now at that time it left me 3.00 to live on until august 1 2009. i was shocked in tears direct express said they will investigate it .. but as i stressed to them i did not authorize that payment to net zero i had cancelled three weeks earlier on june 13 2009 it is now july 2 2009 and i am still with msn .. so called net zero demanding my money back i kept on being put on hold cut off i must of called half a dozen times asking to speak to a supervisor they would not me through to one please help me ineed my money back on my card that was my grocery money and now i got zero balance on my debt card .. august 1 2009 is along way to wait icant buy food anything its my money and i want it back Juliette of Creedmoor, NC July 10, 2009 I signed up for Netzero after hitting a link that offered 3 months trial of DSL, and after which that you would be obligated to a 2 year contract. After 1 month the modem stopped working and I called customer service to get it replaced. The person I talked to asked me to go from room to room connecting the power to see if it worked. After 5 outlets I told him it was not working and he insisted that I try yet another. I, frustrated at this point, asked to just cancel the service. The telephone went dead. He called me back and said someone would contact me in 36 hours. I called back to cancel the service and was told that I would have to pay 100 for cancelling my service. I told them that I had signed up for the 3 month trial deal before the 2 year contract. She said no, the "email" we sent you had one month. I told her that the link I hit offered 3 months. She said you still have to pay 100. mark of portsmouth, OH July 1, 2009 I canceled my service shortly after activating in Feb, it did not work hardly at all!! They have kept billing my cc which causes a 35 overdraft fee ecah time every month since. They refuse to let me speak to a Super and the csr will not veen provide afirst name.
