Rebecca of Gwent, OTHER September 6, 2008

About a year ago i made a final payment to AOL because my computer was broke. The visa I used was not the same as the one that had a monthly direct debit had been set up on. Until now i havent realised that for the lastyear AOL have taken 17.99 a month, unauthorised from my account when i am not even with them. The account (if still open) is unused and i am now with sky.

Economically, AOL have frauduently taken a high amount of money from me and the only reason i found out was when i had to pay charges to my bank for overdrawing.

I received a letter from the AOL Billing Department threatening to terminate my account if I did not write to them within 24 hours to verify my account. I was out of the country for two weeks and this etter was old when I read it.

Although my address is stilll working, I do not know what to do. [They] provided no telephone number or return address to take care of this matter.

I signed up for AOL service about a year ago using my debit card. I used it very briefly and then forgot about it. In the meantime, I lost my debit card and had another one reissued. Apparently, AOL continued to attempt to charge my debit card unsuccessfully for monthly services (that I never used). Since I do not use this account, I was not aware of this.

One year later I have received a bill from their collection department stating that I owed them for four months of service. I questioned why they feel it is ok to continue to charge someone for additional monthly service when it is obvious the customer doesn't know that the account exists since the first bill wasn't paid. Also, there are no transactions on the account so it was clear I wasn't using it. Most other businesses would value their reputation and never adopt this policy. The account would be placed on hold.

I told the rep I would paid the bill but I wanted a guarantee that account would be cancelled as I have heard that they have a bad reputation with this. I refused to pay by phone and asked for their address to mail a check. I am now hesitating with this as I have this feeling they will open up the door for additional charges since their cancellation process is not obvious. What should I do?

Over billing for this month

For approximatly 1 yr AOL has been making small withdrawl from my bank account listing them as Authorized automatic withdrawls. However the ammount was small enough that I did not notice until I logged on last month and this month. The first withdrawl was for 3.95 and the second withdrawl was for 14.95.

My bank has blocked the access from AOL; however how would I recuperate the almost 230 that were taken? I have never had AOL through my bank. It was always through my husbands.
