As the complaints below indicate, Farmers is not always first in line when its policyholders need help. In Texas, a Farmers subsidiary was fined $20,000 for illegally demanding income-tax returns when processing claims.

I applied for homeowners Insurance November 11, 2008 and cancelled it a month later, December 11, 2008, a month later. I paid 115.12 for two months homeowners premiums. The insurance premium were paid until Jan 1, 2009. I cancelled the insurance Dec 11, 2008. I am due 57.86 for the unused premium. This company is now stating that I owe them because I cancel early.

I wasn't told anything about a cancellation fee prior to cancelling the policy. I was told this when I informed them that I was cancelling the policy and requested that the unused money be returned to me. I want to be reimbursed the 57.86 due to me.

I was without a homeowners Insurance Policy for a while, because I was unable to pay another premium at that time.

My house got hail damaged on June 2008, Two adjusters come to do inspection, they all said same thing: My roofer just got little bit damaged, very small amount of hail damage 500, I dont need replace my roof. But after my neighbors in the street changed their roofs, I feel something is not right.

So I called claim office, talked with their supervisor Clay and Lura, asked re-inspect my house, answer is definitely no. I told them, I can send some pictures to them, it shows roof got damaged but their documentation didnt show these pictures, that means their adjusters missed something, but they refused to see my pictures.

We suffered hail damage to our roof in May 2008. We have been trying to get Farmers Insurance to cover the damage. There are hail hits to the roof and baseball size holes in the turtle vents. Farmers claims that the roof has wear & tear so they are not liable for the damage to the roof. They will pay to replace the turtle vents but no contractor will replace the vents without replacing the roof because it will cause damage to the surrounding shingles.

Hail damage to shingles, turtle vents, air conditioner, and window screen. The roof needs to be replaced at the cost of 5900.00

Pam of Redding, CA September 12, 2008

Westwood Insurance Agency is who I delt with. I had discovered water and mol damage in my spare room. Upon discovery I instantly contacted my insurance company. They responed quickley and then everthing after than was drug on. The claim started in March and end of July I finally got the denial. I was giveing the wrong root of damage that they claimed was not discovered early and then whenthe real root cause was discovered they drug out telling me this was also not covered. They have twisted every aspect of this claim and I have been living in mold since March. I am trying to do something to stop my health from not being effected but I thought that is why I had insurance.

I have not been checked by my Dr but have an appointment this comming week. I have two walls, window and carpet that is damaged.

I have had my homeowners insurance through Farmers for 3 years. I have been with Farmers for almost 25 years with my car insurance also. This year my homeowners insurance cost doubled. I have had no claims nor was there any additional coverage. When I called Farmers to ask about the increase in rates, they told me it was a standard rate increase.

Needless to say, I have now changed insurance companies.

Joyce of Independence, MO August 6, 2008

We had a severe storm in our area about July 2nd with heavy hail. Homes around us were getting new roofs...our adjuster said very small amount of hail damage 507, all wear due to age of roof.

We reschduled with a roofer and adjuster who was rude...but we are now getting a roof with some adjustments being made. He said he would never admit to hail damage but would process the claim due to customer satisfaction. We may be the customer but not satisfied ...still.

We will have to pay probably more than we should for a new roof.

Kathy of Mounds View, MN August 1, 2008

We were with Farmers Insurance for 34 years. We had hail & submitted a claim. An adjuster came out & said we didn't have hail damage. My husband was worried about it and we had the roof replaced. This spring we noticed many houses up & down our street being reroofed due to hail damage. The miracle was that we didn't have hail damage even though houses all around us did. Recontacted the company & have receeived no satisfaction. We are fed up with Frmers!!!!!

Janet of Virginia Beach, VA July 30, 2008

I have had auto and homeowners insurance here for over 5 years. It has been automatically deducted from my husbands account since him and I were married 3/4/05. We escrowed the homeowners last October so that is not coming from his account anymore. Now we are going through a divorce and evidently my husband called Ms. Suddeth and told her to bill me for my automobile insurance. I just all of a sudden received a bill in the mail for the previous month and the current month back in May.

I have not worked for months and without even contacting me, she just changed the bill from him to me. I emailed her and told her we were going through a divorce (which she was aware of) and that I had not worked in months and I had no way to pay the bill. The only response I received was that Farmers does things automatically when the premium isn't paid.

Consequently my insurance cancelled on 7/10/08. Now I have an overdue bill for 314.97 which I assume will soon be sent to collections. Can she just do that without any contact in a divorce situation? It seems totally unethical if not illegal. What recourse do I have?
