    The TrueLane app does not give accurate readings all of the time. The main issue I have is that the app will show that I am distracted (which means I am using my phone) even though my phone is either in the cup holder or my center console. If my phone happens to slide or gets bumped, I sometimes get a score saying I was on the phone. For the most part, the other two readings (speeding and braking) seem to score me accurately, although sometimes the app says I braked too hard. On several occasions, I get a score of zero for braking on a trip, I know I did not brake hard. There for a while, I was getting constantly nailed for speeding on a local road outside of our subdivision, where the speed limit is 35mph.

    I had never had problems on this road for months, always getting a perfect score. Then... all of a sudden, I was getting low scores for speeding. I finally called customer support, I asked them why the low scores. They told me I was driving up to 42mph in a 25mph zone. I informed the person that the speed limit was 35mph on that road. No apology, no score correction, just a matter of fact conversation. How about my score always at a 93 for the longest time (it used to be between 97 to 100 using the older scoring system), and then a month before the renewal, my score drops to 88 in a week. My driving habits stayed the same, but I was being nailed for braking the most.

    Of course, my rate went up, after that... my score increased to 92. Funny how that worked. No matter how many trips I make, my score has never gotten to more than 93 with the new scoring system. Why? I would like to know how getting perfect scores for over a hundred trips at 15 points per trip and then getting a 12 on one trip can drop my score a point? Anyone who knows about averages, knows what I am talking about. I do get a good rate with The Hartford on two vehicles and our home, but... the TrueLane app does give phantom readings, there is no doubt in my mind. And like previous posters have mentioned, the customer service people seem to always think the app cannot be incorrect. They seem to be arrogant, knowing there is nothing you can do. Once they tally your score, there is nothing they can do to correct it.

    I had Hartford insurance tell a drunk driver hit my car and my car hit another. They up my insurance because it wasn’t my fault. I drop them.

      Heard companies can delete 1 star ratings, so I gave them a 2. I'd love to sue this company for emotional distress. I was in an accident on April 8th 2026. I had just gotten in the left turn lane and this guy pulled out of a Wesco parking lot. He hit me BEHIND the driver's back panel, BEHIND my rear tire. Hitting my tire and rim also. In the police report, after listening to both sides the officer put in the report that the other driver made an improper turn and hit me. Simple, right? Could have been, but The Hartford claims adjuster allowed the other insurance company to blame me, despite the police report.

      My adjuster, Andrew, did nothing to help me get my deductible back nor did he fight the liability that was put on me! I called Andrew and he told me to contact the other guys insurance. I called Andrew and The Hartford 33 times in 3 weeks and no return calls or help. I HANDLED IT MYSELF AND I REVERSED THE DECISION WITH NO HELP FROM THE HARTFORD. I GOT MY 500.00 DEDUCTABLE BACK!!!! And please, "The Hartford of AARP", don't respond by telling me to call and that you're sorry. Your AUTOMATED message. What a joke!!! Guess what? I'm changing insurance companies next week😊😊😊 To the guy's insurance company that hit me. Karma

      Garbage customer service. Had a tarp on my house for 9 months, that leaked! Finally got a new roof only to find out portions had to be removed to fix broken rafters!!! Still waiting to be paid for a supplemental claim on the dining room ceiling. Tree fell September 27, 2024.. Today’s date April 15, 2026 and 5 different adjusters. Horrible. Don’t do it.

      My mother's Auto Insurance was cancelled by The Hartford, AARP, due to non-payment. However, they never tried to send her a bill by mail, nor tried to call her home phone to let her know. They only used Email. Now, I don't know any seniors that use email at all. I think as a company that is supposed to serve senior citizens, they should have been more diligent in contacting her in mailings and phone calls. I received a quote for Auto from another company that is much lower than The Hartford's rate. And she never had an accident. I can't recommend The Hartford. Poor service.

      After being with the State Farm auto insurance ("SF") for 16 years by continuously maintaining a no claim in my entire life and two speeding tickets as a college student decades ago, I switched to AARP The Hartford ("AARP") in late August 2025. As a member of the SF Drive Safe & Save program, I always received a near perfect score in every category (speed, braking, distraction, acceleration, cornering, etc) and I received a good amount of discount on the premium.

      Now as a senior member of the AARP TrueLane program, my mobile phone shows that my score is at low of 44/100 for a reason of braking. This is strange and hard to believe in a case where there was no change in my residential address, the same driving route taken 100% of time to go anywhere anytime for 23 years, and no encountering of an event that necessitated me to take a hard or sudden braking. In fact, I tend to apply a gentle and smooth braking to gradually come to a stop at stop lights and stop signs for an economical reason to protect and prolong the brake pads on my car that runs excellent. Hard to swallow.

      Furthermore, AARP.org has demonstrated: "What They Advertise Is Not What You Get." On January 14, 2026 I completed the AARP Smart driver online course, received a certificate of completion, and then reported next day. According to the AARP advertisement, for taking the course members would receive a 6.75% discount from a full price charged for non-members. I was/am an AARP member. But AARP charged me a full price. Upon noticing based on my bank statement, I complained. But they did not respond. AARP.org is questionable.

      This for the truelane app. Specifically for stopping at red lights. It takes 3 seconds for the light to change from green to red. Everything I lawfully stop and it takes me 4 seconds to stop it charges you with hard braking, which is 1 star. It does not matter what the speed limit is. They are trying to get you run stop lights to get a better rating. If you are on a short trip it automatically brings your overall rating to 2 stars. Braking all have only one star. I have complained several times with the app and all you get is a canned response with zero feedback. It makes think whoever designed this app does not drive and no one ever tested this when it was implemented.

      Very disappointed that AARP does business with this company. TrueLane app inaccurately records phone use/distraction when the car is parked so one can’t look up an address without being penalized. And how can you use your phone gps then… Also penalized for braking in situations caused by other drivers. Hartford was not clear that pricing would increase significantly if one decided not to use this “big brother” like app. A representative assured me I did not have to use the app but was not clear on the hefty price increase.

      Terrible service. The Truelane app has serious technical issues, but The Hartford uses that as an excuse to raise rates. The app won't fully load to my new phone and the company said they will have to raise my rates because of it. No help, just threats.
