William of La Grange IL (09/13/08) Purchased a Whirlpool Gold Accubake gas range. After a few weeks the oven would not light. Repair replaced control panel. Then the oven began to overheat and would not shut off. I had to pull unit out to reach gas valve. I called Whirlpool and complained this was a fire hazard and they agreed to replace the range with a new one.
New one came and guess what? After a few weeks it too began to overheat. Control panel was replaced but oven continues to act eratically and never keeps correct temperature. Whirlpool offered to repair but I requested a refund because I do not trust this unit in my home. They refused. I also filed a complaint with the U.S. Product Safety Commission with no result.
Vernon of Weatherly, PA September 10, 2008
Vernon of Weatherly PA (09/10/08) I had purchased a Whirlpool Oven and Microwave/Hood combo when I purchased our home. The original cooking equipment was bad, and we purchased this equipment as soon as we moved in. This was in 2005, February. Since then the oven control had broke twice. Once the company had covered the parts and labor, but with in 10 months it failed. Then the part was not covered under warranty. I had to pay 150 with shipping and tax to fix it. Soon after that the microwave went dead. I have not fixed this yet, but now both items are useless. We paid over 1200 dollars for new cooking appliances, close to 200 dollars in repairs, and they are not even three yrs old and now I am looking to replace them again. The Model #'s are:
Oven GY398LXPT00 Serial XS1110404
Microwave MH3185XPT Serial TR R4412075
Now I am looking to replace these appliances. We cannot cook food for ourselves or the children. This is a cost burden that should not happen. We purchased these pieces for a high cost, now have to shell out money we can not afford. Steve of Lanse, MI August 26, 2008
Steve of Lanse MI (08/26/08) I baught a Whirlpool gas range model no.GS563LXSB in August of 2006. After about four months of use the range started locking out for no reason even when it was not being used. I finally got Whirlpool to replace the main control board as the warranty was still in effect. It worked fine for about 6 months and then it started locking out again. When you bake something the oven shuts down without notice and if you're not watching it you don't know how long it's been off.
We have had the new control board less than 1 year and now it looks like I neen a new one again. This is unacceptable. Virginia of Lexington, KY August 25, 2008
Virginia of Lexington KY (08/25/08) We purchased our cook top stove in Feb 2005 and have had nothing but problems with it since we purchased it. The very first time I ran my self cleaning oven, the ceramic cook top cracked, [they] replaced it, I didn't use my self cleaning oven again for 2 years because I was afraid it would crack again, but I had no choice when my daughter spilled something in the bottom of the oven, but it didn't crack I was so happy, but 2 days later when I used my oven to bake a pie crusts, I check on the crust by opening the door and when I closed it lightly, there was pop and the top had cracked again.
When my husband called because the first time it cracked the lady at the customer service said it has a 5 year warranty on it not to worry if it cracks it will be repaired at no charge, but when he called and mentioned the 5 year warranty, he was told no its only for the parts, not the service call or labor. WE would have to pay for that which would be about 75 or more. My husband told her we don't have 75 to get it repaired she said sorry nothing can be done. My husband is a disabled vet who works full time to support a family of 5 on. I can not believe a company with a reputation like doesn't stand behind what your products or warranty.
This is the second time we have ran our self clean oven and both times, the cook top cracked. So now our stove has gone from a simple hair line crack down the middle to 5 pieces where we have had to cook on it in order to feed our children. There is obviously a flaw in this stove if every time I use the self clean function on the stove it cracks the cook top. [They] should recall these stoves before some one or a child gets seriously injured or killed. Thank you
WE paid almost 400.00 for this stove and they expect us to pay for the labor and repair for a flaw in their range. Beverly of Thornton, IL August 24, 2008
Beverly of Thornton IL (08/24/08) I bought Whirlpool gas range model #SF262LXSW in early Nov. of 2006. Since then, it has needed 3 repairs. I never needed one repair on my old 25 year old range.
While under warranty, the oven wouldn't heat up and needed a new gas valve. The repair man told me that very seldom happened and the part would have to be sent for. Because of the wait,I was upset with the company that I bought the range from and they extended my warranty for one year beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Good thing! I had to have the timer fixed because it stopped working correctly and the broiler would light for a minute and shut off for a minute and continued doing this for about 6-8 minutes before it would stay lit. Both repairs were covered under the extended warranty. Now I worry about what's going to go wrong after the warranty is expired in 2 months. While living on a fixed income as a senior, that's a real concern for me.
There were no physical or economic damage, only the future worry. Cathy of Rochester, NY August 11, 2008
