Maytag Settles Neptune Washer Lawsuit

Tina of Scappoose, OR May 20, 2008

We bought a Maytag Atlantis washer & dryer set late January 2002 and just had to replace the entire unit due to the motor being out and corrosion on frame. The repair man said the bleach leaked out of the bleach dispenser and caused the corrosion. I called Maytag and was told the motor was not under warranty past the 5th year and that they wouldn't fix it.

I'm complaining because I think it's fraudulent for Maytag to get rich by advertising a brand of quality and service, to state on their website that their washers last longer than any other on the market?, that Maytag relentlessly pursues to build the highest-quality and most dependable machines?, that Maytag stands by their product -- and then refuse to fix or replace a washer that breaks down after six years of normal use. Its not unreasonable to expect a washer (especially a notorious brand like Maytag) to last longer than six years. Obviously something was wrong or defective with the washer. A company that convinces consumers such as myself to buy their product by making these kinds of statements quoted above should be held accountable.

It cost me about 1,000 to replace the washer.

I bought a washer and dryer set from Lowes. Maytag Brand Atlantis. Have had nothing but trouble with the Maytag MAV9501EWW Washing Machine in the past three years.

I have had a repair man out again for a third time.

Perry of Marksville, LA December 31, 2007

About 6-7 years ago, I bought a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer. The washer was constantly giving me trouble. The repairman was here at least twice a year changing parts on it. I was able to purchase the extended warranty when I bought the set. The last time the repairman came, which was about a year and a half ago, he finally called Maytag and told them that there wasn't any use in fixing the washer. So they told him to order me another washer which was ordered at Sears in Marksville, LA. He told me that there had been lots of problems with the Atlantis. So, they gave me the top of the line model which is an Ensignia.

I don't feel that it was given to me. Paying for extended warranty for 4 years, I figured I bought the washer myself. Anyway, they said that they could not give me a warranty with this washer because it was a replacement. I argued about it, but it didn't help. I thought every appliance had a warranty. Well for the last 9 months, the washer makes a grinding noise when it spins. About 6 months ago, the timer started messing up. It won't spin unless you raise and lower the lid. I have had it with Maytag. All of my appliances are Maytag. I can't afford to have it fixed. I'm disabled now. The old Maytag washers were exceptional. I had one that lasted 14 years. It was just rusted out bad. The belt was the only thing that was changed. Since Maytag has merged, quality seems to be a thing of the past.

I purchased new Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer set approx three years ago.  To date we have replaced one part on the washing machine b/c the spin cycle stopped working and two separate parts for the dryer.  One part because the door would not close and now we are replacing the timer unit & control knob.

The dryer runs without turning off.  Some times it won't dry the clothes and another times it gets the clothes extremely hot.  We just ordered a new knob and now the knob is broken off.

The appliances are horrible.

My Maytag Atlantis washer stinks. It is two years old and has had a mold problem since I bought it. We have taken it apart and cleaned the basket and inside the washer with bleach. We needed to take the basket to the car wash to remove the mold that clung to the sides of the basket. Washer smelled okay for about a week and then the smell came back.

The service man from Maytag told me to take machine basket apart every six months and clean it good. That is a big job and should not need to be done by the consumer.  Why doesn't Maytag own up to their mistake?

Perry of Greenwell Springs, LA April 9, 2007

The Maytag Atlantis smells of mold and mildew. It's like water has been staying in the pump and when you start this machine after 2 days not running you get a very bad smell. I bought the extended warranty and had the machine looked at and the pump was changed out. The smell continues even after it was looked over and the pump change. I have gone as far as to clean the hose and drain out but like I stated earlier let your washer set for 2 days then start a load and the smell returns.

Mary of Amherst, OH September 13, 2006

In April 2001 I purchased the Atlantis Maytag washer and dryer.  Six months later the transmission, drive belt, thrust bearing, motor pully and starter all had to be replaced. Then in Nov. of 2003, it all happened again and all had to be replaced again. Both times only the transmission was covered.

NOW here we are 2006, and once again the transmission blew.  Do we get it fixed a third time? We are almost at the point where we have spent as much money fixing it as we would to buy a new washer.

I'm highly upset, because now the dryer's timer has broken.  I HATE these appliances.
