i purchased an Atlantis washer in Sept 2001. Now my spin cycle does not work and I get an odor coming out of the washer. After reading many complaints from other users I am pretty certain I am one of many with a washer that does not live up to it's name. I am certain that I have a mold problem, possibly a belt problem or even problems with the compresssor unit. I am very disappointed with the short life of this washer and feel that it will now be costly to repair.
I have had whirlpool in the past and my last washer lasted me 18 years. I purchased Maytag because of the reputation that it had put out to the public and now I regret doing so. It also sounds like there is not much support from Maytag repair either. Thorougly disgusted with this and would advise anyone to think twice before buying Maytag washers.
Spent too musch money on a product that doesn't live up to it's name and am finding that repairs are expensive for such a short lived item.

My wife and I purchased the Atlantis washer and dryer set from Lowe's 8 years ago and we have never been happy with them. Our clothes simply don't get cleaned properly and do not smell fresh. I can only use a towel one time before it needs to be washed. My wife beleives that the smell is because the towels are older as well, but I am not convinced. I think a good quality machine should be able to clean any article regardless of age.
We have had repair people out several times over the years and they have replaced a few major parts which fixed the machine but the quality has NEVER been satisfactory. I am looking to replace this set and was considering the new Bravos series due to the positive consumer reviews, but after reading about the similar experiences others have had I will be taking a real hard look at buying Maytag or should I say Fridgidare/Appliance King. I can't remember exactly what the repair person said but the Maytag Atlantis is not really Maytag. It is simply another company that Maytag purchased so they could put their name on a sub standard product. Bad move!!
Clothes do not get clean. Everything, especially towel smell horrible. White loads still come out dirty even after soaking in bleach for several minutes. We have had several repair people out, paying them good money and still the machines don't work properly.

Maytag Atlantis Top-Loading Washer Model 950 purshased and installed 3 years and 3 months ago. Worked great for 3 years and then began to make very loud noise. 3 months later we requested a Maytag service thru Sears and learned the sealed motor bearings were defective. Cost of repair 411.
No physical damage just the replacement cost and labor for installation of the motor. 411

Bought a Maytag Atlantis washer 4 years ago. Sounds like it blew a rod and does not spin/drain. Bought it because of reputation of Maytag-Now I think Maytag's are junk and would not buy another. Unfortunately I bought the matching Dryer and a Dishwasher which have not been any better. STAY AWAY from MAYTAG
Replaced with different make

I am writing a complaint on the Maytag Washer Model PAVT244AWW. This is a 4 year old washer that has the same problems as the Neptune. It is suppose to be a self balancing quiet series and it has always sounded like a train wrek. Also the smell of mold when you first start it up is horrible. I paid 378.42 for this on 11/05/04. I think Maytag should help me replace this piece of junk. It is so frustrating when you go to do a load of wash and the smell is so bad I have to use baking soda in the washer and then stand there holding my ears making sure it doesn't bounce across the floor. Thanks for letting me vent. Did you ever see that commercial where the lady throw's her washer out the window? We'll that will be me soon .
I just wanted to let somebody know about this washer, This is was my first and last maytag.

I NEED TO KNOW IF SEARS SOLD ME A BOGUS MAYTAG WASHING MACHINE &/OR IS IT ACCEPTABLE THAT I PURCHASED A WASHING MACHINE THE MANUFACTURER CAN'T EVEN PROVIDE SPECIFICATIONS ON? Washer MAV15 - Model#MAV7757AWQ purchased from Sears Dept.Store in Sept.2002. I paid 800.00 which incl.a 3 yr extended warranty. I recalled Maytag was suppose to represent a quality product so I was basically sold by the Maytag name. I was advised by Sears this was one of the best machines I could purchase.
I learned after more research, the Maytag Model# on my washing machine did NOT exist anywhere - subsequently, I realized the Manual I rec'd. w/the machine listed no specifications, no information whatsoever. I have had nothing but problems w/this machine which started 8 mos. after I purchased it. I told the repairmen to take it back & have one delivered that works right. He stated they couldn't do that.
So,I referred to all the fine print on the docs I signed when I purchased the machine that indicates a minimum required 4 repair calls before they would consider replacing the machine. It hadn't even managed to get through the first year of manufacturer covered warranty period. The repair slip noted the brake/clutch had been replaced. After this, the machine worked somewhat appropriately for about 1 yr., however, I constantly noticed water coming from underneath the machine. Also, it never spun the clothes enough during the initial wash so I would need to put on a 2nd spin only.
Then it began squealing & making terrible grinding sounds again, but after (2) repair calls & the arrogance of both, implying I didn't know how to load the machine properly & finally being totally disgusted w/the machine I decided to tear it down to the motor. When I finally was able to get the rusted bolts off at the base of the drum mechanism- I was shocked to see that the bolts were so rusted from obvious long term exposure to water that the bolts were actually pitted. I decided I wanted to check out further information specific to the parts I was reviewing, so I pulled out the manual.
There was nothing defined in the manual so I went to the Maytag website & after realizing I was in error identifying this machine as an Atlantis model when unable to locate my model#, I sent an email to Maytag to ask where I should locate the specification sheet for my particular model - as all other Maytag washers were depicted. I rec'd. an email response from Maytag customer service stating that: (quote) This model was manufactured for a specific dealer (Sears) therefore you would not find any details for this model on the Maytag website. Unfortunately, We do not have a specifications sheet available on this model.
I don't understand this explanation & want to know if I have been a victim of consumer fraud or is this all some type of legal marketing technique between Maytag & Sears Dept Stores to the unsuspecting customer? Is there no accountability on behalf of either the manufacturer or the retail store that sold me this piece of garbage? I just want an answer as to the legality of this type of transaction.

I purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer in 2002. The mold & meldew was so bad it got on my clothes. My 5 year warranty had expired so I had no choice but to but a new one, and believe me it is not a Maytag. I feel Maytag should reimburse customers for this faulty product. I have never had this kind of a problem with a washer. It also was leaking out of the bottom.

I own a Maytag Atlantis top load washing machine that has what seems to be several functional defects from what I am reading from other complaints. The first defect is the Fabric Softener dispenser continually gets clogged and gummed up and starts to smell and staining clothing.
I clean it out at least every 2 months with no end in site. The second defect is it appears that the washer misses the drain cycle before the rinse cycle and leaves the dirty water in the basin for you to find later on. It has ruined alot of my families clothes, and as everyone knows in these economic times the washing machine isn't an easy appliance to afford to replace. I wouldn't mind a part going bad every once in awhile, but every other month of uneccessary maintenance is rediculous. I haven't contacted maytag yet, but just got through dealing with whirlpool on a 2-1/2 year old dishwasher that finally got resolved only because I read the warranty to find the problem was still under warranty, but don't think Maytag will do anything about it. I one would search under Maytag Atlantis they will find plenty of complaints that match mine, and to think that there isn't a single recall out there is negligence to say the least. We purchased a Maytag Atlantis washer and dryer set in October of 2002 and we have had nothing but problems. The washer began making loud noises when we first purchased it. Then, it would not rinse out our clothes. We are truly frustrated. We spent our hard earned money to purchase what we thought was a good brand of washer and dryer and all we get are problems. We still have the washer and dryer and are now in the process of purchasing a new one. The washer started leaving oil spots in our clothes, and would not spin the water out. We had had to purchase new clothes several times because of this problem. There is also a mold smell in our clothes and the washer will not completely rinse out our clothes. This truly upsetting.
We have called a repairman several times and they have had to replace several parts. We finally stopped purchasing the extended warranty because we figured we would have to buy a new washer and dryer before long. I called Maytag and told them that I believe we received a defective washer but they were not willing to assist me. I no longer plan to purchase another Maytag. I also know that Whirpool bought Maytag but this too makes me very skeptical.

I bought a Maytag washer and dryer in 2004. I have had nothing but trouble with the washer since i bought it. The name of the washer is Atlantis Model #MAV8551AWQ. The washer has had black soot coming out of the bottom. Did not spin, The pump has gone out twice the motor has gone out. and the valve has gone out twice. Problem with belt too. Washer makes a loud noise when spinning or washing and has a burning smell. Lucky I have an extended warranty. I just read on the Internet that Maytag had a class action Lawsuit for their Neptune washer.
Washer has ruinned my clothes, twisted them, tore them made them dirty and a bad smell coming from the washer. The bottom of the washer has ruined my tile floor because of the black soot material coming from the bottom.
