I can't seem to get any help with my dryer. I have replaced the drum 2 times and thermostat 3 times. Model number is mde9700ayw. Serial number is 13229569gp. I simply want a new dryer that works.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I have a front loader dryer, model number MAH5500BWW, serial number A9147862ec. All of a sudden, I found water on the floor and after opening up the front door, I see where around the part that sticks of on the inside of the door, there is a big piece of plastic that has broken off and cracked all the way across the bottom of the door and is missing. It is allowing the water to leak down the front of the bottom of the washer and onto the floor.

I purchased a Maytag dryer several years ago, not a fancy one but just a plain simple dryer (model number MDE2706AYW). Thank goodness from the other complaints I have read I didn't buy one that is computer controlled. The heating element has burned out twice, main thermostat and limit thermostat has burned out, and if you look close, it seems the wires are trying to melt or at least the insulation. Well, the insulation is melting. And the venting system is cleaned regularly so they can't blame that. The last dryer I had lasted well over ten years with zero problems.
I should have just fixed it. I'm sure I wouldn't have spent as much money on repairs as I have with this one. You remember that lazy Maytag repairman that was on TV for so many years, you know why you don't see him any longer? He is at my house repairing my ** dryer! You never, never hear me say this but the next dryer I buy will be made overseas. My last appliance purchase with any of these name brands on them: Maytag, Jenn-Air, Amana, Admiral, Crosley, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag, and Norge.

I purchased a Maytag gas dryer in November 2011. This is January 2012. I have got to use mine maybe 2 weeks altogether since I had it. It is to be repaired for the 4th time tomorrow. In the meantime, I have to go to the laundry mat to dry clothes, Maytag refuses to do anything about this. They say they are helping me by getting it repaired each time it breaks down. I want a new dryer. The retailer I bought it from will not stand behind this product either. You see these commercials on TV where the Maytag guy is sitting back and waiting on a call. That's a bunch of ***! I have never purchased a product from anyone that they would not stand behind it especially for the 4th time in two months. I will never buy another Maytag product as long as I live and I will tell everyone that I know not to buy one either.

My Bravos Washer and Gas dryer are only a few years old, and they have both been problematic to say the least! Neither Home Depot nor Maytag have been helpful. My washer has had the shocks replaced already, because it would constantly go off balance and shut down and they can't grease the bearings because they are "sealed". So, now it sounds like an airport is in my laundry room! The gas dryer takes an entire day to half dry a load and it's burnt on the inside!

I purchased a Maytag electric dryer Bravo 300 Series in November 2009. December 2011, the main computer board went out and had to be replaced. Do not purchase Maytag appliances. They do not stand by their defective products. First and last Maytag purchase.

I purchased a washer and dryer model MAH8700AWW. In 2005, I purchased the extended warranty. In 2009, I had to replace the main control board and motor on the dryer. Now, I find out that the washer has a warped drum which caught on the door boot and messed the shaft up. I didn't know that it has probably been that way since I purchased it because every time I washed clothed, I had to stay in with it because when it would go to spin, the washer would walk out into the middle of the room. I called about it and they told me to put rubber pieces to hold it still. Now it is going to cost $ 821.95 to fix. That is more than I paid for the washing machine and Maytag will not help to fix it. I would like someone to contact the company and find out why they don't stand behind their products anymore.

Horrific, useless, inconsiderate, rude, discourteous, arrogant and banal! I bought a brand new washer and dryer. The dryer is steam type and defective and they will not exchange, despite never being used. Nowhere am I committed to an agreement saying that the machine will not be replaced if it is defective. I am getting the run-around from the store, the manufacturer and the service technicians that didn't even arrive with tools when they came to evaluate the problem. If I had my way, I would return the washer and dryer and change manufacturers.
But it is a stacking unit and I used the washer which commits me to it! Maytag, Whirlpool, JennAir and KitchenAid are all the same company. I am running out of options except going to the European manufacturers! Miele will at least install the appliances. They will be my next machines and I will not have to pay a plumber twice to install them the next time!

I purchased Maytag Dryer Model # MGDC300XWO on 5-4-11. It has been repaired for the same problem 4 times. I was told that as long as they can repair it, they will not replace it. This is obviously a defect in this machine but they don't care. It has cost me hours and hours of my time. I will never buy a Maytag product again. I don't want to deal with a company who would rather inconvenience their customers then stand by their products.

A few weeks after I purchased my Maytag MEDC300 dryer in April 26, 2009, I noticed it gradually did not dry as hot as when I first used it but the element did not go out totally until April 2011. Now it's November 2011 and the element is out again. Maytag is sending a service man, of course I have to wait until Monday, I am now inconvenienced 2 times in a year.
There's also what appears to be a burn mark on the back of the drum. Two years ago, I paid more than $400.00 for this thing and when it does work, you have to run it over and over again to dry your clothes. Wow! really energy efficient. What a piece of junk! I had my old dryer 10 years before an element went out. I did buy the Lowe's protection plan that was sold with a No Lemon Policy. "If the product requires more than 3 repairs for the same failure, they'll replace it", it says in the front of the brochure.
In the small print on the back, it states 3 repairs for the same failure in one year. These companies are making money off us consumers who buy Maytag because of the name and what is supposed to be quality, and are ripped off by these insurance programs that say one thing but another in the small print. Big business is nothing more than robbers who get away with robbing the hardworking American people. When is it going to stop?

My 1 year old Maytag Bravos 300 dryer caught fire on Nov. 21, 2011 after the first one was replaced. Firemen came. Luckily, it didn't spread to the house. The first one wouldn't dry my clothes.

I bought the Maytag Bravos Series 300 Dryer in 2009. In September 2011, the dryer won't start. I called Maytag. They basically said we're on our own. It only lasted two years. What happened to appliances that lasted 10 years? I will never buy a Maytag dryer again.

We have a Maytag drying center that is almost 6 years old. It never did a good job drying especially for the money we paid, but it just quit on us two weeks ago. We purchased it from TA Appliances in Barrie, Ontario who recommended that we call B&K Appliance repair to fix it. The owner showed up and said he would be back to us in a few days to fix it, as soon as part arrives. He now won't return calls and it has been two weeks, so we called Maytag customer service.
We knew we were in trouble when we received a message telling us "Due to higher than normal call volume..." (so much for the Maytags that never need repair). Anyway, we finally reached an incompetent, ignorant and anti-customer service representative who proceeded to tell us in an extremely, nasally drawl that the part needed to fix our 6 years old dryer is no longer available and the most they could offer as compensation for this on our $1500 plus tax dryer that should last at least 10 years is $120. This is for a dryer we never used more than 5 times a week.

A 14-month-old cabinet dryer required a new motor. I was promised delivery in 3/4 days. Following several calls, all of which resulted in the delivery date being extended to over eight weeks, the same engineer called to install the new motor. He refused to do it as the surrounding paneling had not been removed to give him access to the cabinet.
It took another four days for him to return after we called in our builder to remove the panel--three screws and four-minute work. I asked for the warranty to be extended, by way of recognition of Maytag's awful service. My request was rejected out of hand and the reasons do not accord with the chronological evidence I hold. I am about to bring a claim in the local County Court.

Maytag dryer model MEDC300X - I bought a new dryer from Lowe's. The first time I used it, it snagged all my towels which were brand new. I determined the sensor had a sharp edge on it, thus the snagging. It was repaired and the sensor replaced. I emailed Maytag and was told their warranty does not cover this. It was delivered defective. It didn't happen after using it for years. I can see that, but it was brand new. I sent a UPS package with pictures, a letter explaining, the service slip, even the threads I had to cut off my towels. I emailed them yesterday to see why I had not heard from them yet. I sent my letter on May 27, 2011. She said there was nothing they could do and she offered me $50. Those towels cost me $168.00 (without tax). It seems a small amount to pay to keep customer satisfaction, which is also good advertising for the company. Now, I have nothing good to say about Maytag.

I purchased a Maytag dryer in October '09. To make a long story short, it has been repaired 5 times. Maytag just kept sending a repairman to fix it and extended our warranty. It broke again Easter weekend. I called the corporate office and basically had to jump through hoops to get a new dryer. I've had to follow up for the past 2 weeks with phone calls. The dryer has been ready for delivery for about 4 days now with no phone number or address to be delivered. Their customer service department is horrible. The main problem with the dryer was the thermostat and drum. I will never purchase another Maytag appliance. They don't return emails or phone calls. Customer service just keeps transferring to another department with no solutions.

I have been a loyal customer in the past with Maytag because their products lasted forever. However, I purchased a Maytag dryer in 2005 and the Control Board has gone out twice since then costing me $270 for the first visit to have it repaired. I called Maytag and asked about ordering the part the second time it went out and they were going to charge more than what I could order online from a parts company. They were not willing to discount it to compete. I told the rep I would be better off buying a new dryer and this time it won't be from Maytag. Their product and service has gone down the tubes.

I spent $1200 on a Maytag Neptune drying cabinet in 2005. The heater/element is bad (open). Maytag no longer makes the replacement part. There aren't any replacement elements for this dryer. I will have to replace my dryer because of a 96 dollar part that Maytag opted not to manufacture. This is a horrible product lifecycle management. I truly expected more from a name like Maytag. But I guess that's the result of Whirlpool driving.

We purchased a Bravo series from Maytag in November of 2009 and the dryer stopped heating in October of 2010. We contacted Maytag about the problem and they sent a company called Cliffs Appliances to fix the problem. Six weeks later and 6 service calls from Cliffs, we still have no heat and are unable to use our dryer. I contacted Maytag twice, explained that Cliffs had not fixed the problem and they could care less. Six service calls and numerous calls later, it's still the same old problem. Don't buy Maytag Bravo Series! And please don't use Cliff's Appliance Service! Incompetents!

We have a Maytag dryer (gas). My wife noticed a burned blackened spot on the heat vent inside the dryer. Her nightgown was stuck to this area and the gown was burned with a hole and the surrounding area was in the shape of the vent holes.
We are now trying to call Maytag to find out if there has been a problem. The dryer was delivered and sold in April of 2010 so there is a warranty on it.

I have a Maytag Neptune dryer that I purchased in mid-2005. First of all, I must state that I was never notified of any recall and now I have a defective dryer that has to have the electronic board or sensor, or both, replaced because it is stuck on "51 minutes, sensor dry". It makes a constant chirping noise that is so annoying and does not start when it is locked in that position. I was told by one repairman that I can put alcohol on a cotton ball and rub that on the sensor inside the dryer and hope that works. It actually seemed to do something for a while and then that stopped working, too. Even with the alcohol "fix", I have to keep unplugging the dryer and praying that it will start so I can finish a load of laundry.
The only way I trust it to actually complete a dry cycle is to try to do a timed dry. I am not sure if the sensor is shot or if it is the whole control board that short circuited, and my appliance repairman is not sure either. He is suggesting I replace the board and see if that works. Great! It's about $400 to start in repair costs and still not sure if that will solve the problem. I am very upset. This was supposed to be the top of the line and a big splurge for me.
I remember the days when you invested money for a washer and dryer and they actually lasted for 20 or more years! I guess those days are gone forever. I am seriously considering buying a different dryer after reading all the complaints from others experiencing similar complaints. I'm not sure if it is worth it to repair it. So frustrating!

I am very disappointed with my Maytag Dryer. It is about 5 years old and has a huge tear in the stainless steel drum. The replacement part costs about $275.00 not worth replacing. It has damaged my clothes. How does a stainless steel drum get a tear in it? It is literally ripping at the seam.

I purchased a Maytag Bravo Dryer New on May 2007, Serial no. MA4006440. I had cracked drum on June 2010. It cost $310.00. Sears does not warranty this product. Manufacturer Maytag does not cover this product.

I have put in many service requests to date. I have had a few different service men to look at the problem all of whom "can't find anything wrong". Yet my dryer is still not working correctly! Today, I was on the phone for 45 minutes without any resolution until they transferred me yet again and I got disconnected (their end). Calling back is not fun.

Dryer began making loud noises and finally I noticed all the felt coming out from the drum and the whole drum fell to the bottom of the appliance. We stopped using the dryer in March (before it was even 4 years old!). I have had 2 Kenmore dryers which each lasted over 20 years. I cannot believe what a shoddy piece of machinery this Maytag is! Unfortunately it was after I purchased the machine that many people told me how poor of a product it was. I am just sick! I just lost my job and I have no way to buy another machine unless it is a used one, which would certainly be better than even trying to fix this piece of junk as long as the used one is a Kenmore not made by Whirlpool!

Our Maytag Bravos Dryer model MGD6600TQ1 has caught on fire on three occasions now. Lint settles in the bottom of the dryer where a consumer does not have access and the heat of the drum and heater unit catches the lint on fire. In addition, the inside drum of the dryer has burned up as well. We have contacted repair only to have the techs pull the dryer apart, vacuum the burned lint and try to blame our dryer vent. Previous models of Maytag would turn off the heater component if a vent issue occurred.
Our clothes and bedding smell like a wet forest fire. We cannot leave the house while doing laundry in fear that the house will burn down. Tonight, my wife and I went to a laundrymat instead of doing laundry in the comfort of our own home with our worthless $1000 dryer due to the foul smoke smell it places on our clothes. My son has asthma and we are concerned this might trigger an attack.

When I put sheets in my dryer (2 years old) and go to get them out, they are rolled up like a sleeping bag, one inside the other. The inside ones are not dry and are wrinkled! This has happened numerous times. Don't tell me to put fewer sheets in, I only put four. It is too late to help me but please help others!

I bought a brand new dryer that makes a knocking noise with every revolution of the drum. The authorized service technician said that it was the way the drum was seamed and welded that there is no fix to it. HE also said that he installed 3 drums for 1 customer and all sounded the same. No damage was done but I feel that it is an engineering flaw or shoddy construction. I wish I had my old dryer back as the repetitive knocking is annoying beyond description.

The only steam from my Bravios MGDB700VQ0 is coming from my ears. Today marks the third time this dryer stopped producing heat. Maytag used to mean quality. Now it is just a stock ticker to me whose future doesn't look to bright! That poor lonely Maytag man is going to get overtime on this product! We are on a first name basis. The first time Maytag sent A&E (Sears) to my house, the technician was learning about these dryers as he was taking mine apart. Needless to say, there were 2 weeks glue and a rattle when they were done.
The second company had never seen one of these either. Their marketing department sends me an offer for warranty at least once a week. If they spent the money they use for marketing on R&D I would not be writing this note. I am hoping to not have this dryer long enough that it will need a warranty. Does it save money? No, I have to keep going to the laundromat to dry clothes. The dryer now rattles and makes a clumping noise. Screws are missing (not replaced). Dryer vent was not reattached and it blew off. A second service man found missing screws inside the unit. This could have led to high levels of CO in my house (Gas Dryer), not to mention the fire hazard as a result.

After under 2.5 years, our Maytag Neptune dryer has developed a series of cracks in the steel drum, makes a lot of noise, and occasionally catches clothes on the edges. I called Maytag, and because it's only got a 1-year warranty, they're not prepared to do anything but give us a discount on parts. They claimed to know nothing about any manufacturing problems with these drums.
Based on what I've found out about the number of drums with the same problem, I'm not prepared to spend multiple hundreds of dollars repairing it with something that again may only last a couple of years. They still claim on their website to stand behind their appliances with a strong warranty, but it's only 1 year on P&L. I'm faced with finding a way to dispose of this faulty appliance and replace it with something that will hopefully be more reliable than this. It cost $800 less than 3 years ago, and I expected to get 10 years out of it with minimal service, not 2.5 years before having to replace it.

I spent $800 more on this dryer than the one I was going to get because my wife wanted the "Steam" advantage for wrinkles! I am just out $800 for the Dryer and now another $800 for the matching washer! That's $1600 Total I could (should) have saved myself. I will never buy another Maytag again!

I purchased by Maytag Bravo set in June of 2009. Since that purchase I have had my dryer serviced for a new heating element three times. The cycles on the dryer do not count correctly and the dryer makes a loud rattling noise. I can run the dryer on the normal cycle which automatically sets at about 44 minutes. Come back an hour later the dryer is still running and the timed cycle now reads 1 hour and 39 minutes left to dry. When I stop the continued cycle, the clothes are hot to the touch. I need to wait for them to cool down before folding them. This last heating element that was replaced had burnt marks in the element.
Typically the technicians leave the old parts behind but they took this one with them. When the technician took the element out, a piece was broken which he claims was preventing the element from heating completely. I then asked why the burnt mark on the element of which he couldn't explain. But did say he could put the element back into the dryer and let me continue to use the dryer until the new part came. Which would be a week. I told him no because I felt it was a safety hazard. In addition to the timer not counting correctly and drying cycle running continuously until prompted to stop manually by me, the dryer walls on the outside of the dryer are hot to the touch. It is now five days with a new element in and the problem has occured all over again.
The product is still under warranty. When I mentioned to the technician the possiblity of having a defective dryer since they are replacing the element so many times, he said it more than likely won't happen and then offered to sell me an extended warranty. If this were not covered under warranty still, I would be paying enormous amounts of money for technician fees and labor costs. I am concerned there are safety issues that haven't been addressed by this company to assure there are no fire hazards. This dryer gets so hot on the side my instinctive reflexes prompted me to pull my hand away.

My Maytag dryer was approx. 2 years old when the timer went out. I lost the papers where I bought it. so I called a local dealer who sent a tech. to my home. The timer was on back-order. It's been over a month. The tech. said to call the Maytag company and complain, because they are getting worse all the time, and they were making cheap appliances that won't last long to save jobs for their employees

There can be buyers remorse and then just anger at my ignorance in trusting the name Maytag. I had a quality Amana clothes dryer for years and then bought this piece of junk that doesn't even have a light bulb in the drum. Cheap crap. I did not know this until I used it. Too much for Whirlpool to put a $1.00 light bulb in the dryer drum. If I could return this garbage free and clear I would.

we bought a gas dryer in march of 2007 and already only 2 and a half years later it is not getting hot. I called maytag and the woman i spoke to is was very nice and offered 50 percent off parts after I pay to fing out what part is needed. Thats nice but not good enough what happen to standing behind your product its not like its 10 or 5 years old and it already needs service. I would think you would stand behind your product for a longer period of time if you truly think it is a good product.

My husband purchased all new appliances less than 6 years ago when he bought the home we now share. He bought Maytag and admiral not no name brands, he believed you get what you pay for. In the past 2 years we have replaced nearly every appliance. The dryer 2 yrs ago, the stove 6 months ago and the refrigerator last week. The only remaining working appliance is the washer and that sounds like it is ready to die anyday. Why don't things last today.

My husband and I purchased this Maytag dryer/steamer on top when we moved into our new house in March 2005. I used to own a maytag washer and dryer and I did have problems with the mildew and other stuff but this time I just bought the dryer and hoped it was different with the washer. I barely used the top part of it, since we bought it, maybe less than 10 times. November of 2007, was at work and my mom and my 2 yr old daughter were at home and when this smoke from the laundry room started.
Thank God my mother didnt open the door, instead she picked up my baby and head outside the house. She called my husband at work and at that time about 30 mins away. A neighbor called 911 and me at work. I hurried home and found out after that our maytag dryer started all of these. The funny thing was it all started from the middle part/area of the machine where all the functions located. Burned all the clothes that were in the dryer and the whole top/steamer were burned.
As soon as it happened, I didnt know what to do. We have 3 kids. We didnt have much money to get a hotel but fortunate enough that our insurance gave us some to get us by until they get it fix. The house didnt get burn to the ground but we have the Smoke Hazard they said. That we couldnt stay until they cleaned it up. started that day, I was feeling stress and sure enough, was sick and went to see my doctor. Emotionally, was devastated and it was christmas. I promised my kids before it happened that we were going to have a nice christmas that year, but it didnt happen because of that fire.
I didnt know about this site until today when a friend of mine told me. I wasnt able to work most of the time that couple of months because of the inconvenience of our living situation. I couldnt even bring clothes to wear because they have to either to be thrown away or dry clean. We lost that spirit of the holiday being away from home because of that stupid machine. It still gives me creep thinking about it until now when I washed and dry our clothes. I know for sure, Im not buying ANY MAYTAG or WHIRPOOL brand no more. I think its not fair for our part that insurance only pay us the dereciation value of our stuff that we rece

I purchased a Maytag dryer MDE2400AYW, a year ago, and have been experiencing problems since then. At first, it was making an awful squeeking noise when it was working. It took 5 repairmen visits (5 wasted vacation days for me) between February and May of 2007 to figure out that there was a loose screw left in the machine. Now, just a year after purchase, the dryer no longer dries the clothes. It runs fine, but the clothes com out as wet as they went in. I had purchased extended warranty for 3 years through Maytag Dependability Plus, paid $90 for that. I tried contacting them to send someone, it has been 3 days, hours on hold, and not a one live person answered to schedule a visit.
Needless to say, I will never buy a Maytag product in my lifetime, neither will my friends or family.

MC8000AWW Dryer. Here we go again. First I suffered through the Neptune washer problems and never received any benefits, now the drying center has a lower dryer heating element problem. So myself along with many others are sitting here with $1100 unfixable dryers...Maytag does it again! I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG!
Winter is coming and we have no dryer for the 8 people in our household. I don't have $1100 to replace this dryer. I only spent that much in the first place thinking it would last a long time.

We bought a Maytag Neptune Dryer in May 2004 for $1300.00. The heating element went out in January 2008 and we were told the part would not be available until September 1, 2008. I called regarding the part on September 5, 2008 and was told the part was still not available. I received a phone call today from A & E Appliance repair (they have been great!) telling me they received a message from Whirlpool/Maytag saying there would be resolution to our problem.
I called Whirlpool/Maytag and they tell me the part is no longer available! They offered a %15 repurchase incentive! A lousy $195 to buy one of their products! What a rip off! I plan to tell as many people as I can (that could end up being thousands of people) about the absolutely horrible customer service of Whirlpool/Maytag. Thanks for listening.

I purchased Maytag Neptune Drying Center 3 years ago. This dryer costs over $1000. This weekend a series of events occured, making it unsafe to leave plugged in. It all occured within 48 hours. First, the timed dry button wouldn't work, no problem, I usually use sensor dry. Then light inside went out, then dryer stays running when the door is opened--getting dangerous now. Then, later that day--I hear something in laundry room, I go in there and the dryer is running. I am the only one here, and there is no clothes in the dryer, and I hadn't used it since that morning and it is 12 hours later. Now, none of the buttons work and I can't turn the dryer off, because even when you open the door, it is still running. I have to flip the fuse on it as the plug is not in a place that can be reached, nor would I have tried unplugging it while it was running.
Next morning, I turn fuse back on, and test the dryer. Now it will not run at all on the bottom portion, but top part works. (well not really, that stopped heating a year ago and Maytag refused responsibility, but it does turn on and blow cool air) I have written Maytag via their website 3 times and called once. All I wanted to know if this is a common problem, and perhaps an idea of what it could be. After spending this much on a dryer 3 years ago, I didn't expect a large repair bill so soon. I was told that they do not offer technical support on the phone and it is not warrantied. They could only schedule a person to come and look at it for $65 plus parts and labor.
This dryer is a fire hazard and a complete waste of money. I feel that Maytag should take some responsibility and offer some sort of technical support in diagnosing the problem as well as offering to pay for a portion of the repair costs. They have not answered any emails yet and the phone calls get me nowhere.
