Purchased 12x12 marble tile squares for kitchen countertop.
After installation, I went back to the store and asked salesperson in flooring/countertop dept which sealer to use. Bought product recommended and applied. Followed directions. Damage began soon after. Unbeknownst to me, acids (lemon juice, ketchup, vinegar) permanently etched the material. Returned to the store and explained problem. Was told I been sold the wrong sealer. This salesman sold me another sealer and a stain remover. Went home and applied. Damage continued. Returned to store and spoke with store manager, Janet Wheeler. She assured me there would be no problem, a claim would be filed with their ins. co. After many weeks battling with their ins. co (too detailed to go into here) my claim was denied. I received an estimate of almost 5 K to tear out the present countertop and replace with alternate material. The manager offered 750 toward the tear-out and a 10% discount on labor and materials.

I paid over 21,000 almost 2 years ago, they cut the hole for cook top in my kitchen too large and say I signed off on it. The cabinets were designed over downdraft so they were unable to hook it up.

I have been unable to cook in my home for almost two years now and have spent 10,000 in lawyer fees.

Jacques of North Miami Beach, FL September 16, 2006

We remodeled our kitchen. We have waited over 3 months to finish.

We paid in advanced to measure; paid in advance 16,000 on the project;  and we paid extra because the crown moulding was not sized to match.  The installation is not finished, and there is no exact responses from the kitchen department.

I placed an order & paid 9657 for Premier (KraftMaid) kitchen cabinets on Aug 2, 06 with a written lead time of 4 -6 weeks. In a meantime I demolished my exist'g kitchen to prep for new one. After 3 weeks when I inquired about my order, I found out that my order was cancelled incorrectly by Premier by their fault (no change order was made) and they started the order on Aug 22 when I called. That puts my order for delivery on Sept 29th - leaving me for one month without kitchen.

Unnecessary one month with demolished kitchen while having 9 & 11 y.o. going to school. more than 8 phone calls to Home Depot and Premier asking to resolve the problem. Home Depot mgr at some point promised delivery of second part of the Sept. Premier consistently keep saying we cannot do anything about it.

In early April, my husband and I purchased about 15,000 worth of cabinets and install from Home Depot. We then sent in the rebate form for a 500 rebate gift card. The paper work said to wait 4-6 weeks. I carefully read all the fine print and made sure that I submitted every piece needed and on time. After 6 weeks, I called to check on the status, still not received they said. After another 2 weeks, I called and was told that it may have been lost because they were updating their systems and to please wait another 4-6 weeks. It has now been 16 weeks.

When I checked the status on their website today, it said that they've received the paperwork, but my receipts are not for the same purchase. In the meantime, I had also sent a letter to Bob Nardelli, President of Home Depot. I got a curt letter back stating that Home Depot's Management supports any decision made by the Rebate Center and is unable to make any exceptions regarding rebate requests. Good companies to not do business in this way or allow a third party fulfillment center to tarnish their name. I find it ironic that I found this site, as my husband and I had just discussed how this would be a perfect class action suit.

I have spent much too much time on the phone and online trying to find out the status of this. I had figured the 500 gift card into the budget for my complete kitchen remodel. Needless to say, the kitchen is still not complete (late August 2006) as we still await our rebate for purchase of additional materials. This has put much more stress on myself and my family, than a normal kitchen remodel.

We ordered kitchen cabinets and granite counters from the Weston, Florida store. The worst mistake of my life . All I am having is agravation. The cabinets came too big to fit on the avalible space. I had to go and purchase cabinets from other Home Depot stores to get what I needed. The quality of the wood is bad. Al colors and with blemishes. Not as advertised on the samples at the store. We paid for the measuring of the space, and after all that,.. they still came too big. All they could say is I gues they made a mistake. I have been without a kitchen for 8 weeks now. With no end in sight, I am wondering if I will ever have a kitchen again.

The granite top has been the culprit for the most part. We have waisted about 7 working days of pay just waiting for them just to cancel or just not even showing up. Just to measure the granite took about 3 weeks. Then to deliver the granite, I do not know since nobody seems to know anything. The store manager says they can not do anything about it. All I can do is wait.... or change to another vendor and start from scratch. Of course you figure, I am already in the soup, I'll stick with it. But then that may be the only way to get it to move. If you ever order anything from The Home Depot, you know it must be paid in advance, so there is no way you can hold money for damages or other problems. I am also still waiting for other parts of the cabinets to show up. The came late and broken so the had to re-order them. The gentlemen that we dealt with is no much help, and his attitude is of buy your granite somewhere else or wait.

Between me and my wife I have used about 5 days each of pay, not to mention the expense and inconvinience of eating out or pre-prepared food. Driving arround all over south florida for parts to complete the caniets, and lots of time and time.

Roberta of Laguna Woods, CA July 30, 2006

I had the kitchen cabinets refaced in my tiny kitchen. It cost me 7500.00. I thought they did a good job until 10 months later when I tried to pull out a cabinet in my livingroom. It was stuck to the wall by the refacer's screws. Not only that, I noticed screws all over a large section of the wall. We called the contractor first. Her name was Kathy and she was no longer with Home Depot. We then called Home Depot and got to a Mr. Lee who gave my husband lip service but didn't offer to come out and look. After all, the job was over and they were paid. My husband called several more times and got no response except Oh, isn't that too bad. We still have the screws on the living room wall. My husband is 81 with a severe heart condition and cannot remove them and neither can I.

The wall looks terrible. Though I am forced to buy things from Home Depot because they are close by, I would never again allow them to install anything or even touch my home. Handymen are expensive, and Home Depot should have taken care of the problem.

Margaret of Howard Beach, NY July 24, 2006

On 5/5/06 I ordered kitchen cabinets from Home Depot.  They sent a subcontractor out to measure and install the cabinets for the sum of 2000.

This subcontractor ordered the wrong size cabinets - the upper one should have been 18 inches and the bottom one 15.  He reversed the sizes and his men installed them that way so my stove door would only open 4 inches and hit the wall, and the refrigerator door hit the cabinet on the right and wouldn't open any more 2 inches. They dropped a cabinet and made gouges in my wooden floor.  The first time they came one worker asked ME to go to home depot and buy some supplies that he needed.

Another company, Innovation, came to measure for the counter top. He told my son and me he never so such a horrific job of installing anything.

Ron of Stafford, VA May 18, 2006

I contracted with Home Depot to install granite counter tops in my kitchen. The cost quoted to me was 6591.00 which I paid (required by Home Depot). I ask the HD salesperson if this was the total cost. She said yes it was. The Subcontractors came out removed the old counter tops and back splash, in the process sawing each of the two old counter tops into two pieces in the process of making a template for the new granite tops. The new tops were fabricated and when I was expecting the new tops to be installed, I got a call from Home Depot telling me that I owed an additional 3735.00 which had to be paid before the new tops could be installed.

Needless to say I was both surprised and angry. I consulted with an attorney about the matter. He reviewed the contract and said that I probably had a good case, but that I could not expect to be awarded legal fees, etc. I found myself in a position where I paid Home Depot or I paid the attorney (which also meant a long delay). I attempted to reach a compromise with Home Depot, offering to pay 1/2 of the extra cost. Home Depot refused to negotiate.

The pressure from my wife was intense, so I caved in and paid the 3735.00 and am presently waiting for the tops to be installed. One can be assured that I will never enter a Home Depot store again. For information purposes, I got a bid from a local independent store and the bid was approximately 2000.00 less than the Home Depot cost. I was too trusting of Home Depot and it cost me dearly.

Paid 3735 more than I contracted for as I was put in a position where Home Depot had 6951 of my money, my kitchen was in a shambles, and the cost and time involved in a legal battle were more than I cared to endure. Home Depot's stand was that a final bid cannot be determined until after the old counter tops are removed (in my case destroyed). This is pure BS, and my feeling is that this is basically a Home Depot scam to trap the unwary.

(1) In December 2005, ordered kitchen cabinets for rented condo, they installed, but one door was wrong. They said would be delivered within 2-3 weeks. As of 5/2/06, still do not have.
(2) Same condo in December 2005, ordered flooring. They came and measured and I picked out the floor. In February, they came to install. The installer said he could not put the laminate flooring in because of where the living room rug was higher. They said I should pick out vinal flooring. I asked why the measurer did not tell me that in the first place. I had to pay 75.00 for Home Depot to take back the flooring.
(3) In January 2006, they measured the exterior door for a new storm and screen door. I picked out the door and was told this model would fit. When installer came, I was told the door was the wrong size and could not be installed. At this point, I said cancel it. I finally gave up and knew I could not depend on Home Depot any more.

This condo is an investment property and I lost two months winter rental (which is high in Florida) because of all the problems.
