I just received a letter from Citi telling me my credit limit was lowered $200.00. I have never been late and use the card mainly for 0% purchases. I called to see if they would return it to the normal credit limit or I would just simply close the account. The "gentleman" told me, "Sir, we do not respond to threats." I responded, "Are you treating me like a terrorist (as his response was akin to the government policy not to negotiate with terrorists)?" I was calm in my tone and simply stated a fact. He was so indigent to me, I started to laugh. Then, he told me they would not tolerate rude behavior. After that exchange, I told him to just simply close the account. I urge others to do the same. This is just ridiculous and that guy needs to find a different job.
Consumer Complaints & Reviews

Several issues with this card, specifically Citi. I am familiar with the legislation on credit and was very certain that the time between statement and fees was 21 days; however, I was emailed by Home Depot/Citi that it is 2 weeks. Legislation also states that no card company can charge you to pay your bill online, via mail or over the phone unless paying for a premium type service such as same day. However, when you phone the Home Depot/Citi automatic payment service and you wish to deal with a human instead of a machine, you must pay a $14 fee for paying over the phone and with a representative.
I was told in the store that the 5% they tout to entice people in, is only received "if you ask for it". Cashiers who are not specifically informed before your purchase that you have a Home Depot card do not give you the 5% and it does not happen automatically after swiping your orange card (The same is true for Lowe's cards). Why is it that you cannot pay the balance on your Home Depot card before the billing period ends? If you show a balance of $132 but your payment due is $0, why would you not be allowed to pay the $132, or even $60 for that matter? I have only had this card for a month, used it once, and now I am not allowed to pay the balance until the cycle ends and the statement is sent.
Legislation also states that you should not have revolving due dates that change every month, or applying payments to specific balances on those wonderful sounding "no payments for 6 month" deals. Did you know your payment isn't going to pay that off? Does Home Depot/Citi give you the benefit of the high interest pay off exception for promotional offers which pays them off before the promotional period ends? Home Depot/Citi might want to read the document they are supposed to be adhering to. Scrutinize your statement and watch the dates and fees. Vigilance is your only weapon.

Credit card interest scam. They tell you in the store that the credit card is interest-free for a year - they lie! Only purchases over $300 are interest-free.

On May 9th, 2012, I inquired about receiving a Home Depot credit card with regard to buying several appliances (which I did have great service in that department). My purchases would have totaled approximately $3,500. I did receive credit up to $1,500 but wanted the card to cover the total purchase plus possibly other purchases needed for my renovation. I was sent to the credit desk where the cashier clerk had to phone someone regarding my request. I was handed the phone to talk to the person who said that my request would be considered within 7 to 10 days. I questioned this and received a very snotty reply. I do believe I was turned down because I am retired, 65 years of age and widowed. I have a very good credit rating and a very good income.
I really did not need the credit card but after seeing all the signs regarding the no interest for 12 months and not needing the appliances at this time as my renovation will not be completed until July, I thought that I would apply. The way that I was spoken to by the credit person made me very angry and totally dissatisfied with Home Depot. I have had several purchases with Home Depot and do not wish to pass on this discrimination practice to family and friends. Again, I have always received good customer service in all sections of Home Depot so was taken aback when this happened. A reply to this matter would be appreciated.

I owed just over $200.00 and tried to pay with my business card 3 times at phone number ** and it wouldn't go through. Your operator taking due payments said we can't take business cards. In the meantime, I was getting 5 calls per day at night and early in the morning from Citibank card services asking for payment. They would not stop calling. We have a newborn! I originally told Citibank that I needed a week before I could actually get over to my local depot, but they kept calling over and over. This has made me irate. Screw you Home Depot and Citibank card services! I'm going to make sure everyone knows how your Home Depot service is!

I am very upset and frustrated by what has happened now for the second time. Both my husband and myself have a Home Depot credit card account (It's important that we both have a good credit history in the event something should happen to the other). This makes the second time that my account was closed due to a 'periodic review of your credit history.' I can understand their need to continually assess their risks and watch for people that may not pay their bills, but my payment history was perfect.
Not only have I always paid on time, I pay more than the minimum amount due. I made my payment online this month as usual and checked to see what my available credit was. I was about to pay the remaining balance of $300.00 (the no interest promotion ends in June) in order to make another no interest purchase of hardwood floor. We already booked our measure date with Home Depot.
Well, I noticed that my available credit was $0.00 so I immediately called to see why. I was told my account was closed and I would have to speak to a credit agent. I then spoke to a credit agent that said, before I said a word, and I quote, "Well, Mrs. **, we review consumers credit and not only take into account their payment history, and I can see you have perfect history with us, but the Experian credit report. It looks like you had a late payment on your report and that's the reason why your account was closed."
And she's right. I missed a $15.00 payment on a store credit card because I returned an item and I thought the credit covered my balance. After receiving a statement showing I missed the $15.00 payment, I promptly paid the $15.00 and the $15.00 late fee. That's it. That was the only error, and trust me, paying double due that error was painful enough. They did this with our first account too. At that time, even with excellent payment history, they stated their 'periodic review' showed my ratio of revolving credit to income was too high. Again, no payment issues, always well above the minimum. It took me forever to convince my husband to continue doing business with Home Depot. For a year, he refused and went across the street to Lowe's.
But I went to Home Depot for years before they opened Lowe's and I felt comfortable there. I had finally convinced him that the first incident was a fluke probably due to all the tough credit legislation that had been recently passed and the credit card companies were nervous about bad debt. Well, after this time, he promptly went into the store and cancelled our measuring appointment for the flooring as well as returned all the items we had purchased the day before.
Customer Service was besides themselves when he explained what had happened and they knew us as regular customers. He told them he was sorry, but that was the last time we would be in a Home Depot store. And sadly, I agree. Citibank is the issue, but Home Depot has chosen them as their credit vendor and until that changes, we will not go to Home Depot.
And since closing a credit card account hurts your credit score, my credit has now suffered because of their action. And I find it very interesting that the only account that ever gets closed due to these periodic reviews is an account that only uses the no interest promotions. I have never paid a dime in interest, so that's probably the bigger issue for Citibank. It is funny how a $300.00 balance gets closed, but not a card with a much larger credit limit with a much larger open balance. Oh wait, right. They collect interest on that one each month.

My husband and I just recently built a new house and have several promos coming due. One promo we were graciously given a 20 day extension on in order to pay without penalty when income tax return came. I spoke with a representative on the phone who had explained the interest would be credited ($440.00). In the mean time, we had another promo came due which we paid in full. On our next statement, we had a $40 some charge of interest so I called to ask about it. I was treated very rudely by the lady on the phone. I finally asked her to not treat me like I was dumb and that I was not calling about the interest from the first promo but was just making sure I wasn't being charged interest from last promo.
As we all know, credit card companies do make mistakes and I like to monitor my bills. I don't care if I was calling about the initial promo and asking the same question over and over. Their job is to assure me that my bill is correct and well understood by the consumer! So, you better bet I will be reconsidering any further transactions with Home Depot!

I received a letter dated March 30, 2012 from your manager for the credit review department. It indicated that my account ending in ** had been closed. It stated the reasons I contacted Equifax and got my credit score and credit history. I have had several purchases from Home Depot and my accounts were paid as agreed. I have not had any activity on any of my accounts as I have been out of work for the past two years. You do not open accounts and charge an account when you have a very limited income. I don't, in order to keep my good credit.
Please review my Equifax Credit Bureau report and my credit score. I think you will determine that I am credit worthy. This letter makes me look like a pretty bad credit risk, which I am not. Will you please write me another letter after reviewing my account? I do have one negative regarding a Dr. **. This has been explained to Equifax on my activity page, it does not show as a collection. Thanks for your attention on this matter.

I went to HD to purchase a product on the HD card. I got rejected. I was informed by the credit department I had an overdue balance of $19.71. I paid it immediately and was then able to purchase the product. First of all, I hadn't received the first online statement. The charge was made via telephone in February 2012 and I was overdue by a few days. That's why I didn't recall owing a balance. I went to purchase items again on April 5/12 and was rejected again for a purchase of $22.00, so I left the store puzzled and angry. I was told today, April 9/12, by the credit department via telephone that my account had been closed (unknowingly to me and never otherwise informed). Also, I found out the overdue balance was from October 2011 and it was originally $17.00. The $19.71 was with interest.
Meanwhile, I had made purchases after last October and paid all statements as they came in and made a purchase the day I paid the balance of $19.71. The credit department said that the purchase shouldn't have been allowed and that the account was closed that day. I think Home Depot's credit department management needs to review their policies. They even track the past history of the thousands of dollars I spent there in the last 4 years. They wouldn't reopen the account. Imagine: $19.71 is likely due to mail and/or online error. I wouldn't have thought I would have received some kind of notification. Oh, well, Rona is expanding here in Guelph.

Back in 11/23/11, I went in for an appliances purchase. Because of the Black Friday, I was told that I qualified for a 5% discount and 24 months with no interest if the account was paid in full because the total went over $2,000. Now in March, I started noticing that I was getting charged interest so I called the bank and they said that the 5% automatically disqualified me from getting the 24 no interest. But then when I had asked the Home Depot worker about one interfering with the other, she replied with one has nothing to do with the other' and now Home Depot is refusing to fix their mistake! And now I have to pay for it.

I had the Balance Protector on my card for over a year, and then in March 2010, I lost my job. I was laid off, so I took a temporary job for 6 months. And then in October 2010, I took another temporary job, which was supposed to last 6 months. The job ended early, and I was told by Balance Protector I would be covered since it ended before it was supposed to end.
I submitted all the paperwork I needed to, and they kept asking for more and more documentation. I had sent a letter from my employer, stating it ended early and I sent proof from unemployment. But still after like 3 months of communicating, they denied the claim and said it was not covered because I was on a temporary job. The problem is still today, the Balance Protector website says a temporary job that ends early is covered. So do not trust the people at Citibank; they belong in line with several other big banks in Wall Street.

Approximately 2 weeks ago, my mother wanted to get a Home Depot card. She has A+ credit rating. She wanted to get a new kitchen put in and also ordered new appliances. My mother is 83 years old and doesn't drive. She was refused a credit card and I'm not sure why. What does her driving have to do with getting a card, everything would have been delivered? To me, Home Depot is prejudice against seniors, unfortunately, Home Depot missed out on a large sum of money as my mother had to go to another store to purchase the items she required. If you could look into this matter, it would be greatly appreciated. My whole family shops at Home Depot and we purchase a great amount of products/renovation materials, etc. Please advise why this happened and why Home Depot won't issue credit cards to seniors. Thanking you in advance.

On March 15, we received a dunning call from Citi asserting we were two months behind on the payment of a bill. We have not received a Home Depot charge card nor any mailed bills. On that date, the incompetent Citi employee stated that they sent the correspondence to the wrong address, but he would be glad to accept a check over the phone. We stated we did not know what was on the bill nor would be responsible for any interest, late charges, or adverse credit information. He said they would send a bill net of adjustments. On March 21, we received six calls from Citi seeking a payment of the unadjusted amount. Calling the number they gave us provided no way to talk to a human. Calling another number revealed they were too dumb and lazy to read the account notes, but they would be glad to receive payment for something for which we have not been billed. They were baffled about our reluctance to pay a bill that we had never received for unspecified goods. The total to date is less than $100. They continue to harass us and call incessantly.
Setting up automatic payment should keep me from ever having a late payment, right? Apparently not with Home Depot. For some unknown reason, the customer service representative set up a fixed payment for a revolving account. As soon as any change to the balance, interest rate or anything occurred, the fixed payment is guaranteed to be inadequate and guarantees Home Depot a nice, fat late fee plus the opportunity to report their customers to the credit bureaus. Add to that, a move across the country and USPS not forwarding mail properly and it's a no-win situation. My once flawless credit is now ruined! And what's Home Depot's response? "It is your responsibility to understand your payment obligations and make the necessary payments in a timely manner."

I have an extra "Balance Protection" charge on my card each month that I did not authorize. I called to see what it was and they said I checked it on the application. I did not and would never. This charge has been on my card for almost a year without me noticing it (because I pay my bills online and do not look at my statements). I told her to remove the charge immediately and I should be refunded for the months that I was unknowingly charged. This is a rip off! My bill would have never decreased with this charge on there.

I paid my home depot card off per an agreement with the company. They are now calling it a collection settlement, but I paid all that I owed, not a settlement balance. They told me that by paying all I owed it would not adversely affect my credit. I made my last payment in March of 2011. They reported my account as seriously delinquent 2/17/2012. When I called, they told me it took this long to report sometimes and that I did have a settlement (which I didn't by paying off entire balance) and that there was nothing I could do about it. This is a complete joke and I don't understand how they can do this.
We have had issues from the beginning. We pay at the store our bill thinking that would be the best way and fastest. Nope, it's incorrect. They take your money but don't post your account for two days. So, make sure you have at least four days before the due date or you will get hit with a $35.00 late fee. This is a scam and we have had others do it too. The best thing to do is cut the card up. We have overpaid hoping that the payments would go to the next bill. Nope, wrong there too. You need to physically call them or write them and tell them where to apply the payment (pay the bill would be nice I said). This is after we received two more late payment fees because we didn't get a letter telling us they were holding the extra money until two billing cycles went through. This is a scam again.
I have spoken with a number of accountants and they have told me that's one of the oldest "legal scams" out there with credit card companies. Today I wanted to pay it off online and be done with it. I can't even do that. I had issues trying to get signed on and they are closed on Saturday. The young lady said she couldn't help me and I could go to the store and pay it, which won't post until Tuesday night. This is one of the worst cards for my business. One more thing, when they say you have a limit of a certain amount, that is not true. They allow you to go over, so why do they have a limit? Home Depot has been a great tool for my company. It's a shame that they don't have a better credit service company.

My statements kept keeping mailed to an address that I never lived. I changed the address a number of times with HD and USPS and asked them not to forward my mail or changed my address ever unless I call and confirm. It still happened for 5 years and I gave up. I had them send my statement via the web. I own a business and get hundreds of emails a day. Either I erased an email or it went to spam. Statement(s) weren't paid - that's why I like paper statements. All other credit cards are sent via USPS - only HD is web because of this issue.
Needless to say, I got a 30 past due on my credit report. For 10 years, this is the only negative on my report and is keeping me from getting a business loan. I must have immaculate report for a business loan these days. I made numerous calls to HD, went to the local post office and made calls to postal consumer affairs per HD request to get a letter stating the postal service screwed up. The postal service says they didn't forward my mail. HD says they didn't change my address.
After 20 years of having a HD credit card and being a previous HD manager, I closed my account today. If this was a money issue, I would have been late on all my accounts, not just HD. This was an issue out of my control and no one will help me fix it! HD didn't even attempt to help just denial even from the beginning. I have copies of my statements where the address keeps getting changed even though I called them numerous times requested not to change my address.

I have now received about 14 calls from Home Depot credit due to a past due payment. I have not received any email ebills from Home Depot until just Sunday (2/12) and none of the links in the email worked. At that point (Sunday), I had received nine calls Saturday and Sunday morning. This morning, I paid the past due (unknown) balance and spoke with a supervisor. I was assured the phone calls would stop immediately. Since this morning, I have received three additional calls. I will be canceling this card.

I submitted a payment in the mail on 2/9/2012. My payment due date is on 2/9/2012. I received a phone call on 2/11/2012, which was on a Saturday, saying that I needed to make a payment because I was late. I expressed to the representative that I submitted a payment online and the check was mailed on the 9th. He responded by saying, "We do not have a grace period," the check has to reach us by the due date no later. I apologized and I implied that I have other credit card payments and they usually give my payment a couple of days to reach the office. He responded in a rude manner by saying that, "No, they do not do that. It was stated when I applied and sighed for the card." I advised him that I felt as if he was being rude. He responded by saying, "Well, I'm just stating the facts." I have been with Home Depot for 2 and a half years I have never been late on my payments. He was rude and did not genuinely want to help me find a solution and work with me. I am nine months pregnant and he upset me very much to the point that I cried. I have never been talked to in such a rude and domineering way.

I attempted to make payment on the due date, after 5:00 PM (five o'clock). I was told this was late, and would so be posted as such. "Late, after 5:00 PM, you will be charged". I was told previously, that if payment is made within the grace period, there will be no late charge. I was also told by a second representative to "read your paperwork". This is not customer service, rather customer abuse. I am sending copies to Mr. Frank Blake (CEO) and Mr. F. Ackerman (Director) of Home Depot in Atlanta, GA.

I have a Home Depot card and was on automatic bill payment. They put me on a 7-month bill pay and I was unaware that it would in in 7 months. I received a late notice in the mail showing that I am two months late and have two late fees of $35 (total $70). This has now hit my credit. I worked very hard to maintain a high and good credit score!
I am about to apply for a business loan and this will damage my likelihood of getting approved and/or getting a high interest rate! When I disputed this over the phone, they only credited me for one month and didn't offer any way to correct the situation! This was completely their fault for not informing me that they were taking me off bill payment! The Home Depot also cheated or scammed me out of my $35!

I have credit monitoring and received an alert over the limit on a Citibank card. After talking to my Identity Guard rep, they could not tell which card it was (crappie reporting) so I hunted and found it was a Home Depot card. Been doing some remodeling lately and went $26.00 over my limit.
Paid $100.00 via internet to correct the problem and called Citibank HD to ask if they could remove the negative report, the answer was "no." I complained that this is a customer service issue because they did not let me know I was over the limit and approved the charge.
Response was "you are responsible for your balance." I can deal with that and asked them to refuse any charge that would put me over the limit. Response was "we cannot do that." So I asked if they would please call or email me for a payment before reporting to the credit agency if it ever happened again, "sorry can't do that either". Is this even legal? Being a perfect HD customer for over 10 years, this is how they treat you? Unbelievable.

I was in an accident, which caused major med bills. I was uninsured at the time and had to submit my bill to Attn. Gen Office. (victims assistance). Meanwhile, I was a long term credit card user of this home improvement store (HD). Kept my card payed on time and balance payed off as often as I could through all this mess. When all of a sudden, I got my card cancelled, reason they said was because my credit score fell, (due to waiting on outcome of my med bills) which have been handled and being payed in full.
I called (HD) and explained to them that was what was going on after I received the cancelled account letterhead. I was told by a (HD) representative that he was sorry and when I get it all organized I can re-apply for another card. I could not believe they would treat a loyal customer that had great upstanding credit with them and to treat and make bad remarks. After I take my paper work to them from the Attn. Gen office, I will not re-apply. Being a small business owner, I will make it known of the unjust , unfair ,unfortunate corporation such as (HD) to all and any other trades of which I come across.

I made some purchases on my Home Depot credit card for some home improvement projects. Unfortunately, I was not able to pay the balance off before the 12-month zero interest. Now I am being charged 25.99% (26%) even though I have been on time and paid more than the required payment. I have asked for a more reasonable reduction on the interest with no help from them. I have dealt with Home Depot for a long time. This company does not treat customers well and will never get a recommendation from me or get anymore of my business.

This is the 3rd attempt I have made to try to send an e-mail message. To make a long story short. I am canceling my home depot credit card and will be doing all my shopping at Lowes from now on. I have been a loyal HD customer for many many years. In fact, I worked for HD for over 4 years. Your credit program stinks. It is very confusing and deceptive. I have been wrongly charged interest and a late payment. After being promised from one of your employees that the $25.00 late fee would be removed in October, it was not. I called back again inquiring about the late fee and they said too much time had passed since the statement in question, so they could not remove the late fee. I have had it with HD. I don't need this kind of aggravation in my life.

I made a purchase 8/15/2011 from Home Depot's promotional 6 months, no interest minimum payment. I never received email notifications of statements. I called customer service to complain about this matter a well as the $95 in late charges in 3 months. I was told, I must have something wrong with my "government" email account. I am a Senior IT Manager and very experienced with technology. Citibank and Home Depot Credit practice outright fraud entrapping consumers with promotions that the terms and conditions are not followed.

I was working on a project in NYC over the summer of 2009. I rented a demo hammer from the Home Depot in Brooklyn and put the rental on my HD consumer credit card. I make regular payments on my card as I use it quite often. Well, not so much now due to the economy. Unfortunately, I did not follow the statements and it appears that the card was never charged for the rental though there is a lot of other activity based on the purchases for the project. Now, jumping forward to November 2011, I have started to receive collection calls from a third party agency demanding that I pay the balance for the rental.
This is the first time that I have heard of this charge in two years and I am experiencing extreme financial hardship right now though I still make monthly payments on all of my debts as it has accrued on my credit cards. I am in the dark as to what my options are and wonder how it is that they have my information but were never able to connect this charge to my card in the first place. If they had, I would have paid off this amount long ago instead of receiving threatening phone calls from some third party collection agency.

In January 2011, I purchased a washer and dryer from Home Depot. I opted to take advantage of the promotional 12-month interest free credit card charge. Unfortunately, my husband and I continued to charge purchases at Home Depot. So in spite of making large payments each month, I never seemed to make much headway in paying of the charges for the washer and dryer. Two months ago, I called the credit department and spoke with a representative about why my payments were not being applied to the installment purchase. I was told that Home Depot's practice is to apply payments first to new charges, with the balance going to the installment purchase.
When I made a payment last month, I mailed two checks. One was made out for the exact balance owed on the washer and dryer purchases and I wrote specific instructions that the money was to be applied to that purchase. The second check was written against a different bank account and was to be applied to the remaining charges. I also made note on the payment coupon regarding how I wanted the payments applied. I made copies of the checks and the payment coupon. Imagine my surprise and fury when I received this month's bill and learned that my specific instructions had been ignored. My husband took the copy of the checks and payment coupon to the local Home Depot store and inquired as to why my instructions had not been followed. He was told that if I wanted the payment to be applied in a certain way, it would be necessary for me to call customer service and explain my desire.

I made a purchase in early September on my home depot card. I never received my bill and then I received a call saying that I was 25 days delinquent. I had paid my bill off and then miraculously made a purchase and never received my bill. I was told by the IT department that I changed to electronic billing, which low and behold the IT department cannot tell me when I did so, which I find a bunch of BS, since I work in IT and they have a date/stamp for all online activities, but they can't find it and now I have irreversible late payment because I didn't receive my bill.
I'm paying of my bill and never making a purchase from home depot again. So stop telling me to use my card for interest free, when all you do is change the billing, so the customer does get a paper bill. Then you tell them, "oh well, you are still responsible for paying the bill, regardless." Well, that a scam, as far as I am concerned. And something should be done. I have always paid my bill when I get one. Oh by the way, I went on the web to pay it off and now I can't, something is wrong with the website, so now, I have to call to make a payment and pay a processing fee. Get yourself together HD Credit Card people. Don't you see all the class action law suits from the consumers? We won't take this kind of abuse.

Home Depot reported negative information on my credit report. I moved recently and did not receive my statement at the new address. They reported that I was more than 30 days late on my credit report. This had a detrimental effect on my credit report. I called and asked for the supervisor and he said as much as he would like to remove this from my credit report he could not due to government regulations. I plan on posting this on the squeaky wheel.com to see if I get a response.

I walk in and pay my bill at Home Depot every month. I had 300 promo, minimum payment of $10. I always pay $20 for the last eight payments. As my balance got 100, they raised my minimum payment to $25 and charged me a late fee of $25.
Biggest crooks I've ever seen! So I paid them off and cancelled my card. Bye, Home Depot.

I was using my Home Depot credit card for almost a year to renovate my house. I never missed a payment that I usually schedule via my bank. Two months ago, I did not receive my statement. But anyway, I made a payment on time. Now in my last statement, I found a fee of $25.00 for late fees. I called Home Depot credit card costumer service and they told me that $5 was missing in my last payment. Even though I paid already all my balance, they refused to return $25.00.

I recently checked my credit report due to being denied credit and found out that Home Depot reported me for being late on my account. I do not have a Home Depot account! Never have and never will. Now, it is up to me to fix this. Thanks, Home Depot, bet that you will never see me again. I have wasted time and energy in trying to fix a major error on their part. It resulted to a lower credit score at no fault of my own and a financial burden in paying for the credit reports in order to fix them. Again, thanks, Home Depot.

A 24 month promotion was available during the Labor Day weekend, 9/5/11. To get the 24 month promo, I needed to open a new credit card account. I wanted 4 items; 2 were in the store but the other two were not in stock. The store manager made a call to accounts, letting them know that the customer, being myself, was making his promotional 1st time purchase but needed to order the two items not in stock online. The total purchase was $4100.00.
All 4 items were purchased on the same day at same time, but because the processing of the online order did not get through accounts department until the next day, the $3400.00 online purchase was not honored as a first time purchase and therefore the promotion was not granted. The only reason I opened a new card was to get the promotion on all items. I do not think I was treated fairly because their record systems are a day behind the actual purchase day.

They have 6 months no payments, no interest promotion. I purchased $8,000.00 worth of items and paid within three months. I was charged $58.00 late fees. And every month interest is compounded. This is false advertisement by Citibank utilizing Home Depot.

I recently went to the Home Depot retail store located on 135th St. in Overland Park, KS. I shop there quite often. In 2008, I opened a credit card account. I purchased some items which I promptly paid off. Since then, all items that I have purchased were paid in cash. But I knew that I had a credit account in case larger items needed to be purchased. When I went to the store recently, I shopped hard. I picked out several items for garage storage, put them on a cart, and took them to the register. It was my desire to put them on my credit card and then come back next month and buy more, until I could get my garage in tip top shape. Much to my surprise, my credit card was denied! I have an excellent credit rating. Needless to say, I left the merchandise and walked out of the store.
I called the customer care department when I got home. I was told that my account had been cancelled. I was told that I was more than welcome to go back to the store and fill out another application for another credit card. I was appalled! I asked this customer care person if they had sent me a notice of this cancellation. I was informed that they don't do that! You cancel a credit card, but you don't inform the customer? How can you treat your customers with such disrespect? Can a store just do that for absolutely no reason at all? Aren't they obligated to at least let the customer know? They were also very rude and treated me as though I was someone who never paid my bills!

On April 1 2011, my wife and I paid approximately $3400. We closed our Home Depot credit card account at the same time. The credit limit was $10,200. I had been a customer for 4 years never having a late payment. In March of 2011, we were preparing for a move. We filled out the change of address form through the post office. I never received any further statements showing I had any residual interest.
In June of 2011, there was a message on my cell phone saying to contact Home Depot about my account. I went to the local store. I told them I had paid it off and closed it in April. They told me my account showed it was closed and everything was fine. On July 26, 2011, I received another phone message about my Home Depot account. The following day, I again went to the local Home Depot store. I told them this was the second time I had received a message. This time, they told me an original interest charge of $17 was left from the April statement, and late fees brought it to $23.44. I paid it that day thinking it would be the end of it.
In the beginning of August 2011, I began speaking with a lender about a home purchase. My lender told me my credit was excellent. However in July, the Home Depot had reported two 30-day and one 60-day late payment to my credit report. I then called Home Depot customer service and told them what I had learned. The lady told me my account was in good standing. And she told me that they do not report any balances under $50 to the credit bureaus.
I called my lender back. I told him it could not have been Home Depot due to the previous discussion. He assured me that it was. I obtained a copy of my credit report. I saw that Home Depot did in fact report it. I called them back the second time. And then, they finally said yes they had reported it. They said I could request it to be reviewed. But 95% of all reviews don't get overturned. I requested a review anyway. I told them I have never received a statement at my new address as I had paid it off in April. I offered to send them a copy of the receipt showing I had changed my address on March 21, 2011, and the old statements showed my old address.
On August 24, 2011 I got the letter, which was sent to my old address. The only reason I got it was because the people that purchased my old house contacted me saying they had mail for me, only for them to basically say there was nothing they were going to do for me. My lender said this was going to cost me about 1.5 percent in interest. Also, this has cost me about 40-50 points on my credit! ** thieves! I will never ever purchase anything from Home Depot or retain their services ever again. I am still trying to get them to fix my credit.

I was shopping in the store and at the checkout, I was asked if I would like to save money on the purchase by applying for their credit card. After I said yes, the clerk filled out my info on their credit application and then told me that I had been turned down. I received a letter today saying that we had been denied credit based on info from Equifax. I have my Equifax report in my hand with a score of 848 (excellent) telling me that my score is better than 97% of Canadians! I am mortified that I have been turned down for the first time in my life.

I made a purchase over $299 a year ago, and it was non-interest for a year. I have been making monthly payments over and above the minimum every month. Now a year later, I owe this big amount of interest. Home Depot Credit says that I haven't made any payments on this purchase. I have paid $3000.00 dollars to Home Depot in the last year, but none of it went toward this. It does not make sense that this money was not applied to the oldest amount. This was a non-interest for one year if paid within that year. When I called to get help, the answer was "sorry but you have to pay it". I love Home Depot, but this sucks. And it is a little bit sneaky and it feels wrong.

In April 2011, I purchased a bathtub and glazed tiles on my Home Depot credit card, a card I only took out because of the large discount offered when one initially takes the card. Thereafter, on two separate occasions, I returned the tub and then the bathroom tiles. At both times, I suggested to the clerk that the refund be reflected on my Home Depot account. As I did not have the card with me, the clerk would not and instead, asked for another credit card which I gave her. Please note that I previously had merchandise charged to my account without my having the card at the same Marathon store.
Shortly thereafter, I began to receive my Home Depot statement which did not reflect that I returned the tub and the tiles. I called the Marathon store and customer service in Georgia. Everyone I spoke to, and there were many of them, offered (as the only solution) that I return to the Marathon store (or do the transaction by phone), refund my refund back to Home Depot at which point the store would adjust the Home Depot statement to reflect that the merchandise was returned.
I am no longer in Florida. This policy seems to me to be unreasonable, especially given that it was the store's mistake on both occasions. I explained to the store that I see no reason why I should have to do this and that they should send me a statement reflecting the returned merchandise and just charge the restocking fees for these items. They are intractable in not doing this and insist that I refund them the money. Their position is that I am an entirely delinquent account for the full amount of the tub and tiles, plus penalties. The entire response by Home Depot is unreasonable and unethical, especially given the fact that the mistake was theirs to begin with.

Last year, I spent over $30,000 to rehab a home. I used my Home Depot credit card using the $1,600 and paying every month with an interest in the amount of $23.00. Now, I got a bill that shows that I must pay over $100.00 a month in interest. My balance jumped up and Home Depot is asking for a payment of $123.00. How do you expect people to pay off the card? Home Depot increased my monthly interest rate of $23.00 to over $100.00. On top of that, I had to pay a $35.00 late charge for being over by five days. I will pursue this matter with the State Attorney and find out what bank you are using and I will notify the newspapers as well.

I bought a new refrigerator, stove, and a washer. They sold it to me with their no interest for 6 month-tag line. But what they don't disclose to you is that if you can't pay it in those 6 months, they go back and charge for those 6 months plus monthly after they start billing you. Like everyone else, times are hard for me right now. I scrounge up enough money to pay them off and they bill me on a zero balance $52.89. I want everyone to know that this is a company with no integrity. They are much as stealing from my family and I planned to share this experience with as many people as will listen.

On 21 Oct 10, I paid the outstanding balance of $818.37 on my Home Depot credit account. I made the payment online so there was no mailed check to delay the payment being posted to the account. As I had paid the entire balance indicated, I considered the account paid off in full.
On or about 31 Dec 10, I received a letter from Home Depot Credit Services indicating that my account was delinquent in the amount of $12.46. I immediately contacted them to inquire about this discrepancy, as I had liquidated the account two months earlier and I had received no further billing or correspondence to indicate any further outstanding balance. I have had no previous late or delinquent payments, and I have judiciously protected my outstanding credit history by being prompt with all credit payments.
I was informed upon inquiry that they were sorry that no one had contacted me and they did not know how this could have occurred. I was assured by a senior customer service representative that they would resolve this problem with the credit agencies and it would disappear within a month. They apologized again. I promptly paid the additional amount of $12.46.
I received a letter today (12 Jan 11), dated 5 Jan 11, saying that they are unable to change the information reported to the credit reporting agencies as it "accurately" reflects my account history with them. As this letter contradicts what I was told the last time I spoke to them, I contacted them again to inquire about this. I asked why it was not resolved as promised. They said that they are sorry that their senior manager reported inaccurate truths to me but there is nothing they could do. Consequently, I have cancelled the account entirely. Furthermore, I resolved that I, nor anyone else I can tell of this misdeed, will not do business with Home Depot again.
As I have stated, I have taken great care to sustain and protect an outstanding credit rating. I feel that this error, mistake or oversight, has unjustly injured me. And Home Depot has no intention of correcting this misdeed as they previously indicated that they would. If there is a lawyer that can help us, please contact me. I feel that this is entirely unethical behavior and treatment. I paid the bill off in full, and I subsequently received no notice of extra charges. Then, when they tell me that this will be taken care of, they lied. They indicated that their calls are recorded for quality assurance, so surely there must be a record of their manager telling me that it would be taken care of. Please, can you help?

I did not receive a monthly statement in the mail as I normally do. When I received the next statement, it showed twice the amount due and a $25 late fee. I contacted them up and explained what happened. They said that I could pay the past due amount now and they would take the late fee off. They looked at my account and noticed that I had a perfect account with no late payments ever. The only thing that was an issue is that even though they said they would remove the late fee, my next payment would still be $25 higher because they can't change the payment amount, but that the $25 would be removed, the principal balance. I didn't agree with it since that is forcing the consumer to pay extra now when they shouldn't have to. If the late payment is removed, the payment should be back to what it was. It wasn't the business's or consumers' fault in this case because anything could have happened in the mail, but the consumer shouldn't be forced to pay extra for something they didn't do wrong especially when they have made on-time payments throughout the history of their account.
I asked to speak to a manager and got transferred to an escalation specialist. This specialist told me the same thing, but said they don't think it will be a problem to make an adjustment to the payment since this is a home improvement loan but that a manager or higher up would have to do it since they didn't have the authority to do it. The specialist promised a call back from a manager. Later that day, I received a call back from a manager and they told me that they couldn't do anything about it. When I mentioned what the specialist said, they told me that there was still nothing they could do about it and they couldn't change the payment amount even though they removed the late fee. I asked how I could escalate this further and they said I could write a letter to the disputes department. I told them that I would do that and also report it to the BBB and Consumer Affairs. They said that was fine and the call ended.

I received a notice in July 2010 that Home Depot had decided to close my credit account, due to negative reporting on my credit report. My Home Depot account was current and in good standing. In fact, over the many years that I have had this account, I was only late on one payment in April of 2007, due to an address change. I immediately ran my credit report to determine the issue and discovered that there was an inaccurate negative report from one of my creditors.
I immediately set out on a mission to have it corrected and removed. It took me several months, but the inaccurate reporting was corrected and removed. I contacted Home Depot Credit Services this morning to ask why they would close an account of a long term, loyal Home Depot customer that was in good standing and current. I explained that the negative reporting was inaccurate and that I took care of it but it had no bearing on my Home Depot account.
The representative stood by your decision to close my account, and advised me that I was welcome to go to my local Home Depot, and reapply for a credit account or go online and reapply. I am not willing to go out of my way to reapply for a credit account that was closed after my long term, positive account was closed for no good reason, in my opinion. In addition, my Home Depot account is now showing as an Adverse Account on my credit report, and that it was closed by the credit grantor.
Further, I asked the representative to be sure to note my account that not only will I go through the hassle of reapplying, but I will also never, as long as I live, spend another dime in any Home Depot! I was a long term, very loyal customer in good standing with their company for a very long time, and they now want me to come back to them and ask if I can be a customer with them again? It's not not happening! I am insulted that they would treat me in this manner!
Up to this point, I would drive out of my way to go to a Home Depot. Going forward, to eternity, I will drive out of my way to spend my money anywhere, except Home Depot. Previously, I have never had any credit grantor close my account for any reason. I will allow their adverse mark to remain on my credit report, until the time that it falls off, as a reminder to me of how much they've appreciated my business and good credit standing with them over the years.

Home Depot raised their interest rates to a whopping 26.99% and totally taking advantage of the consumer.
I will no longer shop at Home Depot and have nothing to do with them. I paid $40 for my payment and $27 went to interest. They didn't even announce their increase and I happened to notice it on my statement. Way to go Citibank and Home Depot; together you should be hurting for business really bad! Welcome Lowe's!

A 30-day late payment for the month of October has shown up on my credit history. Please remove it. This is one bill, Home Depot was overlooked. There are several reasons why this occurred. They are as follows: I am self-employed, general contractor; I had an injury to my Achilles tendon that caused me to be unable to work for several months. I waited until my medical was approved. I went to a doctor who told me to stay off of my feet for three weeks to a month. All my mortgage payments and other bills were paid on time.
I do not know how I missed my Home Depot payment. My fiance was restructuring my payment schedule for me through the use of Quicken. I usually keep my unpaid bills right next to my desk. She had entered all of them into my computer (out of sight, out of mind.) I finally remembered to pay my bill on 10/24/10. Yesterday, I checked my credit score and saw that the only late payment I have had for 3 years has been with Home Depot. This has adversely affected my credit score.
Last night, I looked into My Home Depot bill. I went through their automated service. On three occasions, it would not accept my payment. I was also disconnected. The check no. ** is limbo. I have been a commercial customer with Home Depot for 15-20 years. I have also been an outside sales representative for Home Services (windows, siding and roofing). All I am asking is please remove the 30-day late fee. If you are not able to do this, please call me at **. I will keep pursuing this until all my means are exhausted. I also will follow up with this issue by calling the number provided for customer resolution.

We have had a Home Depot Credit Card about 7-8 years. The credit limit is close to $8,000 and we have always paid the bill as it was received. I worked part time at the Covington, LA Home Depot for five years with a very good work record. Our credit card account was closed only days ago. We received a nasty letter concerning it which made us feel like second class people whom they were getting rid of. I called the credit department and was told we had some unpaid balances over 90 days on our credit report.
Our credit score was well over the median and was excellent. The unpaid balances concerned student loans I had co-signed which had been deferred or were supposed to be by Sallie Mae. These were eventually deferred but the credit report was not updated by Sallie Mae. I was told by Home Depot that Sallie Mae had to go in and update the credit record and Home Depot would then process our new credit card application. I called Sallie Mae but got put on hold. I have decided Home Depot is not the company Bernie and Arthur started, it has changed.
The short of this is, I worked for Bernie and Arthur and while they were in charge, the company was a good place to shop and work. The numb nut they hire to run Home Depot after they retired was in charge the last two years I worked there. This was when the big change occurred. The company has not recovered. My wife and I were treated like "trash" to be taken out. I will not go back to Home Depot unless it is the only place for what I need. There are Lowe's and others. Lowe's has always impressed me with their selection of products.
Their floor people were less knowledgeable than Home Depot but now I see little difference, since the nut dismantled Home Depot. As for credit, I will use my Visa or Mastercard. I once had very little plastic. Perhaps I should go back to the old days. There are debit cards also. I was once orange but I am now disappointed.

I have had a 1, 250 credit limit with Home Depot for over a year now and have never been late.
I ran the card up along with some of my other cards, due remodeling and both my parents' death. In attempt to get my credit card balances down, I had a little extra money and split it up between my cards. I made a $300 payment on the Home Depot card in the middle of August giving me about a $330 available limit.
Without my knowledge, they inquires on my credit report and a few days after the payment lowered my limit to $1000. I informed them I was attempting to clean my credit up and you guys are making this hard for me, they said they would consider putting it back up to $1250 but I got a letter saying that my request for an increase was denied. I never asked for an increase just for them to put my limit back to normal. I feel they had malice in there decision to lower my limit after I made a large payment in attempt to lower my balance. I cut up my card as well as my husband and will only shop at Lowes.

Received a letter saying, "We have decreased the credit line on your Home Depot account to $780 of which $0 may be used for cash advances. Our decision was based, in whole or in part, on information obtained in a report from the consumer reporting agency listed below, specifically your credit report indicates a delinquent credit obligation, either paid or unpaid, with another creditor. Equifax Credit Information Services, 55xx *** *** PO Box xxxxxx, Atlanta, GA xxxx-xxxx. Please note, other than providing information the reporting agency played no part in our decision and is unable to supply the specific reason why we have decreased your credit line."
I have had this credit card for over 10 years. Have never asked for a increase on the account and have never used the cash advance. My credit report shows a delinquent payments because I was a co-signer on a KIA that my son got after getting out of jail. He had nothing but problems with the KIA. When we went to KIA, the manager told us to turn the car in and he got my son into a new car. If I was late or behind in my payments to Home Depot I could see this action being taken, but I have not.
This account has been paid off many times. Now my credit report takes another hit because of their actions. They want people to call and work out problems with them but they will not work with you. My son has lost over $600 a month in income because of the economy. If you don't go to a credit repair place, the credit card company will not ever discuss lower your interest rate, payments. They will pull your card continue to charge interest, over the limit fees and expect you to pay the amount due. Why bother calling them?
They want to dictate what you can agree to pay them. In the letter above, they have the audacity to tell me to review my credit report. And in the future, if I want my credit line increase I can request it and they will review my credit report again. Who the *** do they think they are? They are not dictators of my life. If credit card companies would quit increasing credit lines on their own, they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now.

For two months, I have been charged a $35.00 late fee for my no interest balance. My bills are set up to pay automatically on the first of every month by my credit union electronic bill pay. All my other bills are paid on time without any late fees. I called Home Depot service center to inquire why I am being charged late fees. The billing states that there is a 31 billing cycle but the manager said it is only 28 days. He also stated that the electronic payment on the first probably is not posted for 3 to 5 days which would always make a late charge applicable. I have an excellent credit record and have never had a late charge reported against me.
I am furious to think that this million dollar company would sink so low to pilfer money from a good customer of over 10 years. I will never do business with them again.I am going to find the proper California state agency to file a complaint against these unfair practices. Please join me if you have a similar complaint against Home Depot.

I had an small balance in my Home Depot Credit Card and could not make payment on line due to problems with the Web. Since I didn't received the monthly statement, I went personally to Home Depot and spoke to an assistant. This person looked into the system and told me that there was a balance of $20. I paid this amount to bring my balance to "0". Some time after this event, I received a phone call informing me that I have a balance with Home Depot of $4. I asked how was this possible if I had brought my balance to "0". They told me that this things occasionally happen with credit cards when there are additional charges.
Now the problem is that I am in the process of getting a house and this situation is affecting my credit report. I called several time the Home Depot for a confirmation letter to help this situation and even though they admit that there was a misunderstanding and that it was possible that I had never receive the monthly statement due to a mistake on the address, they are refusing to assist me.

I was unemployed. My mower had blown up. In shopping for a replacement, the salesgirl was very nice and suggested a new credit card with 12 months, same as cash. Being unemployed, it sounded great.
In the months following, I found a job and had to move. So a couple months went by without getting mail, being too busy etc. When I opened a bill the next month, there's $120 worth of "Credit Protection" added to my bill. I called in March, explained that never did anyone mention that while I was signing up. At that time they explained that "Credit Protection" was another company and gave me a number to call. I called, explained the situation, so they canceled it and promised a $100 credit. I was upset, because it should have all come off, but fine.
In April, it was the same bill, no additions but no credit. I called, the "Credit Protection" takes up to 2 months to post. In May, it was the same bill, no additions. Now "Credit Protection" is a part of Home Depot Credit and they transfer me. I'm told they'll put the credit through again and "It almost always goes through the 2nd time". I thought that was odd, that he had done it more than once so many times he knew this! ! Come June and it's the same bill, same amount. I called and got angry. I was told that it can take 2 months for the credit to come through and if they do it again, it will "reset the clock" on my 2 months. August is the end of the "no interest" so I'm getting nervous.
Come July and still the same bill, same amount. called and explained the series of calls, lies, etc. and was told they would "dispute" the $120 and it wouldn't be a problem. August and still the same bill, same amount. I called and was told there was "proof" of me accepting the credit protection so I had to pay it. I explained that I hated Lowe's, but would never purchase anything from Home Depot again. Of course, they didn't care.

I purchased a heating/air conditioner unit from Home Depot. It was installed by the company they contracted with. This was purchased on Home Depot's charge card with 1 year -- no interest.
Part of the unit included an electrostatic air cleaner. This was not installed. I know what the air cleaner entails because I had one on the old unit. Not only that, they had to patch the hole in the wall where the unit connected to the house. And then they tried to say that I never had that type of unit prior to their installation.
After many phone calls and letters to Home Depot, they said that the system was installed completely. However, they never sent anyone out to my home. How could they know that it was correct by just talking with the contractor and not sending someone out to look at what was installed?
About 7 months later, Channel 2 News was doing a research on people who had problems with Home Depot contractors. I wrote to them and they helped resolve the problem. It was at this time that Home Depot finally sent a manager out to look at the system. The electrostatic air cleaner was finally installed. At this time, I notified Home Depot that I would consider this the installation date and that I now had 1 year to pay off the system. There was not response from Home Depot.
120 days after the original bill was due, I was contacted by Home Depot that the bill was past due. I explained the situation and paid the original amount of the system. This was paid prior to 12 months after having the system completely installed. I refused to pay any interest or finance charges. Home Depot agreed to this and even gave me a letter stating that there would be no negative report on my credit report (enclosed are 2 letters).
Now, I find out that a year later, you wrote off the interest and finance charges and 1) reported it to the IRS on form 1099C as Cancellation of Debt for $4,558.47 and 2) Closed the charge card and reported it as paid for less than full balance.
Citibank (the ones carrying the financing) say that this balance was turned over to a collection agency and that is why it is a cancellation of dept. They refuse to do anything about it.

I have had a Home Depot card for several years &and used it this spring to purchase a chain saw and other items, which were to be billed on a 12-months same as cash basis. The total amount was around $500 which I plan to pay off in full within the 12 months. Each month, I make an electronic payment of less than the account balance. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered my checking account overdrawn. Bank statement showed that rather than deducting the amount I requested, Home Depot elected to pay the account off in full. When I called them, they stated they'd open a "dispute" and might possibly have my money back in a few weeks. After explaining that they'd wiped out my checking account and cost me over $100 in overdraft fees, they said they'd expedite the process and I'd have my money back by the next week.
That was over 12 days ago and I haven't seen a penny. HD lost no time in changing my HD account balance from zero back to what it would be if they'd deducted the payment I requested from my account. That happened within a day of my call. Every time I call them, I am told the check is in the mail and the US mail takes anywhere from 7-10 days according to one representative, to 2-4 weeks according to another. They insist the check has left their office. I have sold a lot of items on eBay and never had anything, even a package going parcel post all the way across the country, take this long.
Each person you speak with gives you different information. One person says the check is coming from Georgia, another says it is coming from Iowa. Additionally a lot of their customer service staff are rude, arrogant, and uncaring. When I requested a name and address of somebody higher up in the organization to write a complaint to, they refused to give me a name. So, nearly 2 weeks after I discovered their error, my HD account is back up to the original amount, but the money they took has not been reimbursed to me.
This is not the first problem I have had with HD credit. When I purchased my refrigerator, it was to be 6 months interest free, however they began charging interest only 2 months after purchase. It took about 3 months of phone calls to straighten that out. I am done with HD.

We have had a Home Depot credit card for many years and have always made the payments on time, for the amount due if not more. A year and a half ago, I lost my job and all income and have had to rely on family to help us pay our bills. We have several other credit cards, as well as a first and second mortgage, and they have all worked with us to reduce our payments to a manageable monthly amount. For our Home Depot card, we have been sending a regular monthly payment amount of $100, far below the required minimum, but we thought the monthly amount would at least show good faith.
Throughout the last year, I did not once receive a call from Citibank in regards to our Home Depot account, not one call. This week, we started getting calls from a collections agency and have come to find out that our Home Depot account was turned over for collections, even though we had continually made a monthly payment and received no calls. I don't get it. Not only that, but the collection agency representatives were extremely rude and would not accept my offer to continue making the $100 a month payment. Next time they call, I'm going to offer $50 a month instead.

Citi took money from my checking account without my authorization. It took almost a month for them to send me a check to cover the initial amount. In the meantime the withdrawal shortchanged my account and fees and charges accumulated. Again another wait for a partial check covering fees. The account was still short and I was forced to pay service charges for their delays. I had some bills on auto pay and this kept the charges rising. When I tried to have the service charges sent, I was told they would pay no more. I had to foot a $250 bill and because I am retired I am now behind in my other accounts. I can only imagine what is being done to my credit.

I am being harassed by phone up to 4-6 times a day, seven days a week starting at 9a.m. The machine message says, "Citi calling about your Home Depot account". I don't have an account with them, but my husband does. His latest bill says his due date payment is July 20, 2010. He was in the hospital with CHF and had an operation within the past two weeks. I explained this to the gentleman I spoke to on the number listed above. He said, well he has been late in the past. The phone calls keep coming, it is very annoying and a form of abuse.

A bill amounting to $4,692.62 is due June 20. I went to Home Depot on June 9, closed the account, talked to the finance personnel to have my account closed out, since the bill is already paid. I got a new bill in the mail on July 2, saying that I have zero balance, but $51 worth of interest due. I am retired, and on a fixed income. I paid off all my bills in good faith. Home Depot is not an honest company.

My wife and I bought thousands of dollars worth of flooring and bathroom hardware from Home Depot in Kanata Ontario. They advertised 10% off all flooring in store. The catch: It had to be purchased using your Home Depot credit card, which we didn't have. No problem, we can set you up in minutes, they explained. So we got the card and the people in the store insisted that only my wife's name was required. Now, they were also running promotions where you make no payments and pay no interest for 6 to 12 months on various items, one was flooring. I originally would have gladly paid cash for the $2603.96 worth of hardwood, but I would not get 10% off unless it was charged to the card.
I decided that I would just pay it off shortly before the promotion ended to avoid the 28.8% interest. If you don't pay it on time, they will charge you back interest from the date of purchase, something they didn't make clear, but I would expect. Anyhow, I always paid off my account, in full, in person, at the store ahead of time.
My last major payment for $2603.96 was due Mar. 29, 2010 and I paid it in full on Mar. 22, 2010 in the store. On my next statement, I noticed that I had been charged $300-$400 in interest (that interest is now gathering interest apparently) and Home Depot Credit Services started calling saying I was delinquent in my payments. The first person we spoke with told us that when I made that payment, it was first applied to my revolving balance of $7.95 and the rest was applied to the $2603.96. I asked where this $7.95 came from and no one could figure it out.
I then asked why I would be charged interest on $2603 as I felt that even if there were a legitimate outstanding balance of $7.95, the interest on that might be 2 dollars. They agreed with me, apologized repeatedly and said I was not at fault. They were going to look into it and assured me the matter would be cleared. Within a week, I got another call from collections.
Same story, same apology, nothing was solved as they continue to call every few days. On June 26, 2010, they called again and I went through the whole story once more and also found out that the interest was accruing more interest. The lady on the phone was very pleasant and polite and could not understand why this had happened. She looked up my payment history and pointed out that yes, I had always paid off my full balance ahead of time. She assured me that she would pass the information up the chain as there was nothing she could personally do about it. Then we got another call.
By this point, I was getting a little angry. I told them to look through their notes, fix the problem, correct my bill and send it to me. I also requested that they put their apologies and explanations in writing and email it to me as I was losing confidence in their system and ability to communicate with each other. Apparently, they can't send letters or faxes or emails so now I have nothing in writing, only my word to go on, and I am sure they will be calling again soon. I also suspect our credit rating may be affected as the entire system is probably automated. This is turning out to be yet another nightmare scenario dealing with careless, faceless corporations in this case, Home Depot and Citibank - who the Home Depot is blaming and passing the buck to despite me telling them it was Home Depot who coaxed us into this card and it is Home Depot's name and logo on the card.
I also do not buy their explanation that this is a computer glitch, as I have always found computers to be rather good at math and when there have been issues with numbers spit out by computers, it usually leads back to a programmer error. I may be wrong, but this is seeming more and more to be intentional. I now worry about our credit, I am going to have to look into it, fight to get it repaired and somehow get someone to put something in writing explaining the circumstances. I am frustrated, angry, unnecessarily stressed and honestly feel cheated. I am sure there are many others who are having similar if not identical problems. For now, I will pay them what I know I owe, on time, in full (not a penny more, not a penny less) with no interest as promoted by the store. I also personally think there should be severe penalties imposed on these companies for every such occurrence as I believe they are very quick to take one's money (they'll get you a card in 15 minutes) yet very slow to, if not reluctant to, correct mistakes in their favor.

Apparently, I purchased something over $299 during one of their promotional offers. I did not realize that. Now, since I had not paid that purchase off in full, they hit me with a $220 interest fee! This should not have been implied that I accept that offer. So now, you have to be careful of your purchases because you have no idea that they are running a promotional offer. I get my statements by email and just look for amount due and pay.
Apparently on the 3rd page at the bottom is where you see this crap! This information should be on the front page of their statements because not everyone reads past that full page of garbage they print! I feel this is wrong and that the promotional offer should not be automatically put on your account unless you bring in a coupon that is registered to your account.

I have a credit card account with Home Depot for over 3 years, making payments on time and pay my balances in full. They sent me a letter stating they closed my account based on a recent credit report, nothing to due with my Home Depot account. I advised them that I have paid them on time and in full in most cases, however, they closed it anyway which will now affect my credit negatively. They stated I can pull my credit report and send them that to dispute. Negative impact on my credit. I cannot use my Home Depot card to keep my home running when I need to.

Short version ,my last letter to Home Depot was 25 pages with exhibits.Home Depot allowed my sister to charge $266 in another city. I paid it anyway. On 10/8, Home Depot drafted $266 from my Chase account into Citibank account number **. Home Depot claimed the draft was "cancelled" two days after they had the money, but they still had the money. They called it an "invalid draft", even though the money was in that account.
From 10/15/09 until four days ago, I was hounded. Three different collection agencies, over 100 phone calls, as many as three a day. When I would send the statutory letter to stop calling, they just moved it to a new collection agency. They signed for certified mail on June 2, yet switched it to a new collection agency on June 4. Once they emailed me that the calls would stop. They lied. They finally called and said the calls would stop in 36 hours, but in that 36 hours, the callers were brutal.
They reported written off bad debt/collection of double the original bill to all the credit agencies. I was denied credit as a result. Discover and Texaco reduced my credit limits to $500 and $100 respectively (I cancelled them). Sears, a Citibank card cancelled me. I am a 61 year old attorney, licensed in 3 states. I was ignored, abused and my rights under Federal law and Texas law were violated and Home Depot did acts intentionally designed to skirt Federal do to call law. All this time they had my money. This is out of my field of law, but if they can do this to me, what do they do to the average Joe? I was totally ignored until I started posting this on their Facebook page, line and verse. Suddenly they got interested, a boy 8 months too late.
Finally, this week, I got a 2 paragraph letter from Home Depot Financial saying sorry, we'll remove this from your credit in 4 to 6 weeks. 4 to six weeks? That means, that for 9.5 months they were allowed to impune my name and wreck my credit with impunity? They ignored my demand for compensation, although I also sent it to their legal department.
I have over $90k in Citibank and credit card purchasing power of over $50k with Citibank dating back to 1988. In fact, on one card I had earned 700,000 miles on American Airlines. So think of the dollars I spent on that card. I have never a problem. Yet, this is the way I was treated.
Other things on my credit history are two late payments to Kohl's, one when I moved and one when Kohl's said many bills were lost during hurricane Ike, paid within 30 days, no late fees or interest. Also, one agency shows 2005 collection by an ER doctor for $187 that was a dispute with my heath insurance carrier and I guess that they finally paid it as it is marked paid.
I charge about $6-10k a month and pay off every card in full every month. I have one car loan for one of my kid's car, always paid on time. I own my home, my car and have considerable assets. I am not a dead beat non paying bad credit risk. I don't think that they should be allowed to get away with this type of activity and I would like to sue them. Lawsuits are not my field, real estate is. Any takers?
Consequences: denied credit by bank One, Discover reduced my credit limit by 80 percent, Texaco lowered my credit limit to $100, Sears cancelled my $9k credit limit card totally. I was mentally harrassed by over 100 calls by different collection agencies, at home, at work, weekdays, weekends, three times one night when I had the flu. I had to pass on a real estate deal, as I would need to borrow a portion of it and my credit has been destroyed.

I was searching for a way to send an email to Frank Blake, CEO of Home Depot, when I stumbled upon "Zimbio." I have no idea what it is, but I registered, and now I am here. I was searching for his email so that I could get the message to him that they are purging good customers from their system for no reason. I had a $1,000 credit limit with Home Depot, and I had used up the entire credit line twice, and paid it off twice. Never a late payment. Never, ever. My current balance is $181.
I was in the local Folsom, CA store a couple of days ago when I went to use my Home Depot card to make a $15 purchase. At the cash register I was informed that my card was declined. I sought help, and they told me they have nothing to do with credit, even though they invited me several years ago to obtain the credit card. They directed me to call the 800 number listed on the card. I called, and after being transferred to the right department, I was informed that the Home Depot, without my knowledge or authorization, ran a credit check on me and determined that I had been late on one of my revolving accounts.
Their policy was to cancel anyone who has ever been late on a credit account, even though it has nothing to do with the Home Depot. The fact is, they were mistaken, but that is what they said. And even though I had been a good paying customer for several years, without ever missing a payment to the Home Depot, they arbitrarily decided to cancel me. If they don't want my business, that's fine, I can always bring my business to Lowe's, which, in fact, is what I am doing. But why on earth didn't they tell me?
Why did they choose to let me find out at the cash register? I certainly would like to get this message to Frank Blake, because he once headed up the Customer Relations department. Is this any way to do business? I hope not. Injury to my credit rating.

I have had several bad experiences, mainly with their credit/billing. They sold me items with special financing i.e. 6-12 months no interest, etc., but did not include it on the billing. The first time I missed it and was charged fees and had to fight with the customer/billing service to get this corrected, it took weeks! The second time they pulled it, I called them right away on it. That also screwed up my account because I bought 2 items within a few weeks on credit with the special financing they did not include when they billed me.
The customer service/billing were extremely rude and hostile. They are arrogant in thinking they are always right and you are just trying to cheat them. It took months for me to get it straightened out. I wrote to the top people of the company, etc. They actually gave me a black mark on my credit, after I spent weeks talking to them on the phone at least a dozen times trying to work it out, and was told it was corrected. I paid $169 for a special service after I bought a carpet from them and had it installed to have it cleaned 3 times. It was like pulling teeth just to get it done just once.
The people from the service at HD lied and said we really did not get 3 carpet cleanings when I had the service agreement right in front of me that said it was. They gave us a fake number to call for the carpet cleaning, did everything to prevent us from getting it. We never did get the other 2 carpet cleanings we paid for. I wouldn't go near their stores for a long time. But, recently, I made a small purchase there and like a dummy put it on the card, $25. When I made the payment online, HD said it was declined by my bank.
When I called my bank, they said they never got the request for the payment. I've had this bank for over 2 years and used this account before for purchases at HD. I went online to check out my HD account info and HD had deleted all my information so there was no way I could find out what happened. I sent them the payment immediately on finding out, but then they charged me a $60 fee! I called them and tried to get them to take it off, but they refused so I told them to close my account. I have perfect credit. I took that bill with me on vacation so I could pay it online so it would not be late and this is what I get for it. I have always been honest with them and pay everything on time. I am completely fed up and will never have anything to do with HD again! I cut up their card.

This weekend, I was checking my credit balances as I do on a regular basis. I was shocked to discover that my credit limit had been reduced from $12,500.00 to $1900.00. I have had this card for over 7 years and have never missed a payment! When I called to inquire as to the reason for this decision, I was told it was because of items on my credit report. I immediately paid for a credit report. On this report, I discovered that my credit score was 798 out of 850 possible points and the only derogatory item was a disputed collection account for less than $150.00 that was 4 years old. During that 4 years that this item was on my report, Home Depot credit card increased my credit balance 3 times, each time by $2000 or more.
I called again to inquire about the reasoning and the only reason I was given was this disputed 4-year old account. I was so angry that I closed my account. In addition to closing my account, I called the manager of the local store to advise him of the amount that I had spent at his store in the last 5 years (over $25,000) and that I would not be shopping there anymore because of the actions of the credit card company. I also called the Home Depot customer care line in Atlanta and spoke to let them know that I will not be spending any more money at Home Depot. I have followed up with a letter to the customer care department. I encourage anyone who has had a similar experience to write them at:
Home Depot,2455 Paces Ferry Rd,
Atlanta GA 30339, Attn: Customer Care.
While they can do nothing about an individual credit card issue, they need to be aware of what their relationship with Citibank is really costing them.

I have had an account with Home Depot for several years, with a credit limit of $1,000. My current balance is $181.00. I was in the Folsom, CA store this morning to make a $15.00 purchase, and my credit card was declined. They had no idea in the store, and could be of no help at all, so they directed me to call the 800 number on the card.
I was informed by "Mike" that I was declined because for some reason, none given, they decided to check my credit report, which I did not authorize, and they learned that there was a report of a late payment on another account - which, by the way, is erroneous.
Therefore, after taking up the time of two of the floor workers to help me figure out what I needed to buy, I was turned down at the cashier counter. I have always paid Home Depot on time, and recently made a $600 payment to substantially reduce my debt to Home Depot. I asked Mike why I was not notified that Home Depot didn't want my business any more, and he hung up on me.

Home Depot Credit Services is not sending e-bills to my bank. They required I register my Home Depot account online to view any electronic information on my account. I tried this since it is easier and faster than using customer service; it may be designed that way. I don't know, but it seemed logical. After registering the website had account tools that I wanted and did not want. The tools I didn't want was "paperless statements". I did not want paperless statements, but when I left the site, the "Paperless Statements" tool must have reverted to I do want "paperless statements". I never wanted it. This was back in the beginning of the this year, 2010.
When I noticed I wasn't getting my statements in the mail for a second time this year, I called Home Depot Credit Services to wonder why. Again, they said I have checked the "paperless statements" box. I told them I didn't and even so I didn't want it. Again, they explained to me what to do online where the problem started. I received one mailed paper statement in February of this year since registering with Home Depot online account services, even though twice so far this year I told them I didn't want to go "paperless statements." Then again in March the statements in my mail stopped.
By the time I noticed I wasn't getting my mailed statements, a promotional balance had ended in April. Here comes the finance charges and late fees and a phone call on May 12 that I was past due. Again, the "paperless statements" was enrolled on my account. I called and again they said I had to change it online again. I asked one service agent, "What do I get as a confirmation that I want mailed paper statements?" He said it was only verbal. I then spoke with Micheal, a female customer service agent. She told me that the confirmation was a "print screen" button on my keyboard. This was new to me. I never understood the print screen button as a confirmation for my request of mailed paper statements.
This time I'm out $134 for an enrollment I never intended to enroll. I have no recourse for I don't think a print screen button is a case for confirmation of mailed paper statements. Watch out for this company. If they handle their mailed accounts this way, I cannot imagine what their online account service is like. Very poor service, not user friendly, service agents that seem to make up rules and guidelines. The customer is not right with this company. Their online account status is in control.
The comment about two months before action on an account seems to be a rule for my account also. Everything seems to roll fine until two months before a promotional ends and then account changes are done without your knowledge or permission. Citibank is handling the cards for Home Depot. This does explain a lot for why Home Depot Credit Services is a credit trap. Do not use this card or any Home Depot Credit Services. It is tied to Citibank and look at the complaints against this bank.

The promotional purchase issue described in lawsuit filed in 2004 just became much worse. These companies are now applying any payment over the revolving balance (which name they have dropped entirely) and are applying such "overpayment" to unbilled revolving amounts, i.e. to purchases made between their statement date and the payment date. In the past, I have avoided these usury interest charges by paying off each month the entire "revolving balance" plus a portion of the "promotional balance" such that the the latter goes to zero before its expiration date. This new arrangement of applying payments to unbilled amounts has the effect of reducing or eliminating payments on the promotional balance. It's an apparent back door way to squeeze consumers into paying the promotional interest anyway.
I have protested in the strongest possible way and my experience is that this is the way they want it, using the new law to cover their actions. I don't need their card so I will pay it off and destroy it. Meanwhile, my hunch is a lot of people are going to get into the last two months of their promotional period only to find out that all payments prior to 2 months before the promotional expiration date are not being credited to their accounts.

I got one of those 0% interests for a year. Then before expiration I decided to start paying all. I moved and that's when all starts: no statements, late fees, no solutions at their customer service department. So I decided on February the 28 and paid off, so they stop adding charges over charges. I explained that I never got the statements and all that and they told me to close it. I just need to pay off the remaining balance of $191.14. They even reduced a late fee of $30. Then I though it's finally over, but no. Next month in the mail there's a charge for $53.30. They said it was a miscalculation of the total balance, plus interest and some more. I told them that account is closed! I paid it off! It turns out that the guy never wrote or did anything. It makes no sense. What did I pay then? A little remaining balance? A partial? I don't get it. Why would they let me pay a partial to pay more later? I don't know, but they don't care. I spend one morning trying to solve with some manager , but they weren't available and somebody will call me. That was 3 weeks ago. They don't really care. Their credit is not going to be affected. They are still getting paid. Their customer service is the worst. It now increased to $74.36 and increasing!

On May 21, 2009 my wife and I purchased a countertop, sink and plumbing. This was on a year no-payment and interest-free plan. The price for all the purchases was $1991.17. I had to apply for a new card because they drop me for non use of credit on the card. So they check my credit, awarded me a credit line, and I electronic signed for my new card. On Feb. 11, 2010 the wife went in and paid off the debt. At that time they charged her a total of $2123.29, a $142.12 difference from the total on the invoice in which we thought was what we only owed. The fee was a balance protection fee that was owed. I was told that this is a fee that is charged to customers when they apply for a card and is verified by an electronic signature. This is not explained to the customers. The only way a person would know is by reading the hard-copy which they don't do when they do your credit check electronically and approve your credit.
Anyway we were not sent any paper work or a credit card, which we haven't received to this date. We were not told about the protection fee also. The issue we have is that I called the Home Depot office and explained that they have charged me with the fee and I was not told about it. The person I talked to told me that he would refund my protection fee back to me but only with coupons. Ok, I thought that was taken care of at the time. He also told me it would take a month to receive the coupons, so ok great I'll wait. This happened in February 2010 this year.
So on the 9th of April 2010 I decided to check on the status of my credit card and my refund at the local store (address above). They called up the main office and asked were my refund was and they told I would not get a refund. So I asked about my card and they had just getting a verification on it at that time I told them that I been waiting almost a year then the lady begin to tell me that it would be in the mail. At that time I didn't want to deal with it so I went home and told the wife I would deal with this later.
So on Thursday the 28th of April 2010 I called the balance protection fee office and talk to the accountant named Jimmy. I ask Jimmy why I was charged the fee. He told me because I signed the electronic signature I was liable for the fee. I explained that prior to talking to him I had already took care of the issue by another representative and he told me that I would receive coupons in the mail within 30 days. So when I told Jimmy, he said that the representative wrote down that I would not get a refund back. I have no way of knowing, and I told Jimmy about the coupons, and ask how the customer would know about coupons for refunding unless the representative explained Home Depot's refund system. Hopefully, the customer can keep these hidden fees from happening, thinking that the original bill is the right balance and it's not I have the paper work to prove it. Please someone stop them form ripping people off. Thanks.

I changed debit card and had auto payment with Home Depot online. By the time I added new debit card, they locked me out of the website, charged me a late fee, and did not send paper bill. I talked to an agent with Home Depot and she advised me I would be locked out for three months. Some punishment huh? How does that help a person pay their bill?

Home Depot Expo issued an EXPO/CBSD credit card that we never used, yet years later it shows up on our credit report as current. It was interpreted as more credit when Expo went out of business! I need help to have it removed.

Home Depot is unable to successfully setup my online bill pay on their site. Many attempts on my part to resolve this issue with customer services. America has became dependent on this service to pay our bills. I have been issued many late fees, phone calls and credited late fees by Home Depot. They say that they are aware of other complaints but do not resolve the issue for me and countless Americans.

First of all I am constancy working to keep my statements be mailed to me versus emailed. They tell me I am the one changing it; if I am, it's not intentional. I tell them every time I absolutely do not want email statements, send it via the USPS and save an American job, you can plants more trees. They wanted to raise my rate so I opted out. Then they made it impossible for me to pay online because I no longer had my three-digit code on the back of the card. I kept explaining that I no longer had the cards but it is like a mantra: you need your three digits, you need your three digits. So I gave up but was caught short and got charged $39 because I had to mail it in.
Later I realized that I could pay it at the store. I did that for a while and the online pay magically started working without my three-digit code. The next trap I got caught in was when I used the online bill pay to schedule a payment out four days. Well, it did not go through and I do not have any proof that I scheduled it, my bad, and another $39 late fee.
They are among the worst and I do not shop now and will never shop at Home Depot again. It's all Lowe's now and cash only. The credit card companies are doing their best to kill any recovery.

We've had an HD credit account since 2002. We have maintained it faithfully and used it often. Our payment history is clean. In January, I paid off a balance in full. After the funds cleared my bank, I check my HD account and saw a zero balance. However, HD charged our account 'daily' interest from the time the statement was issued on 23 December '09 until I made my payment on 08 January '10. I received no statements telling me that I owed this small amount of interest. They failed to notify me via email as they have always done before, so I had no idea that I had a debt with them.
On 26 March '10, I received an automated call to my voicemail telling me I had an overdue balance on my account. I called and was told what the amount was and that since we were good customers that they would zero it out. A few days after that call, we were reported as delinquent to all three credit reporting agencies. They zeroed the $22 oversight but then destroyed our credit for it! And they didn't even send me bills for it! We were told that HD isn't obligated to inform us of a debt in a timely manner since we receive e-bills. It's all our fault.
I don't understand how I could waive my right to this information just by attempting to be green and saving a little paper. And the most difficult part to understand is how, if it was a simple thing to just zero out this tiny $22 interest balance and not make us responsible for paying it, how can we we then be punished so severely for this amount on our credit report!? How can this be right? Me and my husband's combined credit score both dropped about 70 points each. We are in the process of applying for a mortgage and we are now in danger of not getting a loan or getting one with a high interest rate all over a $22 interest charge that was waived!

I have an excellent credit score and a long term credit history with Home Depot. I have an $11,000 line of credit and had recently charged $650, which is my total balance. They recently changed their policy from six months no pay no interest on charges over $295 to requiring minimum payments and I had not paid attention to that change. I had a $10 minimum payment that I missed on a $650 balance. $10. The payment was 20 days late and I was charged a $39 late fee plus interest.
Not only that, but the telephone has not stopped ringing all weekend with robocalls trying to collect. I lost count after my answering service logged 12 calls from their number, with no messages. Last night at dinner, the phone rang twice from them when I had company over on a Sunday night and I don't choose to answer the phone when I have company. Today, Monday, I called the company and told them I was paying in full through my BofA online payment service and to stop the calls. I also asked for a reversal of the late fee. The service rep reversed the fee but the calls continued today with two calls after I took care of the payment. She said she was unable to stop the calls.

I have been a Home Depot consumer credit card holder for many years. I have purchased thousands of dollars in merchandise with the card. I recently decided to upgrade my home windows, so I bought the first two of seventeen total. They were over a thousand dollars each. I of course put them on my Home Depot card. I did not receive my statement in the mail the next month and to my surprise when I went online I discovered that I had been signed up for paperless billing and no monthly bill would be sent to my address. In addition, I already had been charged a $39.00 late fee for missing my payment.
I called customer, no service and was told that I was the one who signed up for the paperless billing, yet when I asked what e-mail account they had on record for sending the bill to. They admitted that they had no e-mail on file, which was one of the requirements for signing up for paperless billing! Even though they had no e-mail address on file to send my bill to the customer, no service rep kept insisting that it could only have been me who signed up for the service. I became so angry that I requested, they cancel the paperless billing and close my account.
Why are the windows so expensive? They are insulated hurricane glass. I will buy the remaining $15,000.00 worth of windows from Lowes since they also carry the Anderson brand. The experience left such a sour taste in my mouth that I will never shop Home Depot again. The economic damage is to Home Depot, not me.

I have been a Home Depot card holder for about 8 years. Suddenly my account was closed for no reason and now they are harassing me for payment. Calling my home at least 10 times a day and my job. The account was closed because I was behind on my Master Card. What does one account have to do with another? I would like my account reopened ASAP. This has resulted to hurt my credit and I an unable to get the necessary items I need for my hard work.

Home Depot Credit Services authorized a payment to be made on my account that I didn't authorize. Watch out. Because I know I processed the payment correctly. I have been online bill paying for years. Instead of taking out my minimum due, which I always pay at least for the last 3 years at approximately $92, they took out my total balance due of $2734.00. It's a big difference, which in turn overdrawn my checking account by $600.
Customer service didn't care when I called and just insisted it was my fault and it's too late to do anything about it. They transferred me to online tech support for some reason with no help given there. I have heard of companies now, whom you especially do on line transactions with, are taking out full balance when they seem when your credit score drops. Which mine has because my husband has been laid off for several months, although we manage to pay our minimum due on our credit cards no matter what.
I am wondering if this has happened to any one else. It is now in my bank's hands. At least M and T bank is taking charge and they are disputing the charge and trying to get my money back for me. In the mean time I don't know how I am going to live. I will never deal with Home Depot Credit Services again or even shop at the store. The name just sickens me. I have no money at all. Checking account overdrawn by $600. Hopefully, my bank will resolve the issue with a dispute. Meanwhile, I'm spending time complaining so this doesn't happen to any one else.

I called to get the pay off on my credit card and the gentleman told me that he did not have to give it to me because it is not required by federal law. Legal or illegal, it is wrong. With the economic times we are in, there needs to be some provisions made for those who want to pay off their debt. Is there something that can be done about this? While there is not significant hardship for me, there could be for others. I am having to pay an additional $20.00 in payments and finance charges.

During the "Boom Times" I have probably spent over $100K at HD in remodeling my home. A good part of that were cash purchases, however, I did use their card for the special interest offers.
In 11/08, I was laid off from my job as a construction manager, and to date(3/1/10), I'm still out of work. To get by, I have used their card to make purchases for handy-man type work but the income received from the work was not enough to meet family expenses and pay the card, so I did run up a $6K debt. On 2/14, I sent them a check for $6,125 to be applied towards the outstanding balance of $6,375.
On 2/19, I sent them another check for $255 to be applied towards the interest between the payments. Today, I received another bill for an additional $79 for interest incurred between the 2 payments. I paid this off on-line but their internet site said, the pay-off amount was $79.25 but the most I could pay on-line was the $79 current due. This means another bill next month for any outstanding difference since interest is accrued on a daily basis.
I called HD credit and told them I paid the authorized full outstanding balance and that I would not accept any additional interest charges effective immediately. Further, because of their ursurous rates (Citibank shares 1/2 the guilt). I was cancelling my card and will no longer purchase anything from the HD.
While I'm wholly responsible for my debt. I feel that HD and Citibank are taking advantage of their bread and butter consumers by charging rates as high as 29% coupled with the way they calculate interest.
This is directed at Citibank. Look at the government bail-out money. Who needed the most? Who got the most? Who still owes the most? They got the money from taxpayers; the same HD shoppers they are sticking it to!

I made arrangements with Home Depot credit card (Citi bank) for a hardship payment plan. I was told interest would drop to 0% and that since all we could afford was $35.00/month, that this plan was okay with them. Yesterday, I received a collection notice from NCO regarding my Home Depot Credit Card, stating that it was sent to collections. I called NCO, spoke to Mrs. Horton, and was told the even though I was paying $35.00/month that it was not acceptable with Home Depot and in December/January had been sent to NCO for collections.
I called Home Depot Credit Card Services and they refused to speak with me stating that everything was being handled by NCO and that my previous agreement was "Null and Void". I have received no notification from Home Depot Credit Card/Citi Card nor any phone call stating that I needed to pay more or that the agreement made was "null and void". I am getting ripped off and am extremely upset with this situation. Times are hard and I know that credit card companies are doing everything they can to get more money but this is not acceptable.
I was told by NCO that unless I made payment arrangements with them by tomorrow, that Citi Card was going to go all the way with further legal action.I have made payment arrangements to get this account paid within 10 months but because of this situation I will only have $100 to feed our family for the next ten months. My wife has been looking for a job but still hasn't been able to get a job.
My credit is being ruined further by them and I will never get any credit card from Citi Card and am letting everyone I know about this situation. We have struggled financialy for the past three years; health insurance rates have gone up (wife is uninsurable), thus our health insurance alone is about $1300.00 per month. We have even considered bankruptcy which is not what I plan to do. Please help to make sure this doesn't happen to other people.

Lost job as school teacher in 2007, contract was not renewed. Could find no work equal to job lost. Matters compounded by physical problems related to excessive construction work in younger years. On unemployment insurance for some time. Started construction laborer job in March of 2009. In between played the balancing act of paying mortgage, heloc, living expenses, and credit card debt until finally could not make all ends meet. This Home Depot account was put in 12 months program with no interest due during that time.
In fairness to HD&Citi I could have paid off the debt in full with no interest if I was not in such a hole and making less than half of what I made as a teacher and no benefits with which to cover medical expenses. In June of 2009, someone from Citi called my home and said they would reopen my HD acct after the 12th month of the program successfully completed and one payment made at the 29.99% default rate. The APR of the acct would then revert to a lower rate of 16 something % (Stacey of Citi told me 17.15% was what was in the "computer").
I should have known that HD and other box stores never have any interest rate below 20% but I believed her. The 12th month came and the letter from Citi came stating what I knew from the conversation in June 09 but did not have interest rate numbers on it. so I called Citi to find out what the new lower rate would be after the first payment at the default rate of 29.99%. Stacey could not tell me, knew of no formula that was used to determine it (as if they write numbers on little pieces of paper, put them in hat, shake it up and draw one out and voila! you have your interest rate)! So she transferred me to Donna who did in fact sound as if she would know something more.
But she said that HD determined the rate and she in fact did not know how. But she was kind enough to call a credit manager who said it was 26% now. I said so the person who called me in June 09 was speaking words that meant absolutely nothing. Donna said it happened over the summer when banks were having all those problems (like Citi was not one of those banks). She made it sound so removed from the current issue we were talking about.
Donna also reminded me that it was in the agreement that the banks could change the terms anytime for any reason. I said so the conversation we are having right now or any conversation I have had or will have with someone from a bank/credit card company means absolutely nothing in terms of credibility. In response she asked if I wanted her to mail me a copy of the terms of the agreement. (nice deflection). I told her I had plenty already. After reading many of the other complaints on the site I realize they are all the same, the banks, the credit card companies, the box stores, anyone who extends credit. That includes the government from local to federal.
No one cares about legal issues unless it is how they can bend the rules to their benefit. No one knows what ethics are, what it means to be ethical, behave ethically. No one remembers what usury is. But, like dumb sheep the people (myself included) walk into the "agreements", which are no agreements really, you agree that they can change the terms of the agreement anytime for any reason. What kind of agreement is that? A fools agreement this fool must say. So the bonus is mine and everyone else who signed those terms of agreement.
What can we do about it? Well, the gov't was going to get those bad bank people and changed the rules for lending money, etc. They increased the grace period to 25 days! So what did the lenders do? They made it exactly 25 days! Now your payment may be do on a Sunday! Well, everyone knows banks can't move money on a weekend, gov't rules! So now you have to pay your payment on the Friday before, so you don't get the 25 days anyway. This is the foresight of the gov't in making the big bad banks pay? I think if the people would save and pay for things they could pay for, novel idea I know, granted houses might be an exception along with a car but even then have 25% to put down (that you saved). If people stopped borrowing, who would be able to lend?
If people stopped borrowing from lenders who practice usury and deceptive practices, they would go out of business. If we elected gov't officials who truly worked for the people's betterment and regulated in a way that punished wrong doers (like predatory lending institutions) and if we did not reelect those who did not and allowed them no benefits from just holding the office, punish them for not keeping the oath of their office, maybe things would change. A sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. And it probably will get worse before it gets better.
By not keeping their word of June 2009, I will have to pay more money in interest and it will be longer, if at all, before I can pay off the bill, or other bills. The consequence for Home Depot is I will not buy in their store and will tell everyone I can of what they did as well as not using citi anymore and telling everyone I can about what they did. I will be fair and tell everyone of what I did too, the foolish behavior in borrowing that caught up with me when I lost my job and could not get another one. Unfortunately people don't change until they have to, until something bad like what happened to all who use this service and website. God help us all. Thanks for the opportunity to tell others of my situation in hopes that someone else may be helped or spared the same.

I need to complain about their business practice of charging 29.99% interest on their consumer credit card, and their deferred interest practices. They advertise that there is no interest charged on purchases of $299 or more, but that is not true. In fact, not only are there interest charges that accrue over the 6-month "grace period," but if you do not pay your purchase off prior to the expiration of the 6-month period, the accrued interest is added to your balance, and then compounded! This is a surefire way to ensure that one never pays off the balance on this consumer card. If I make a $101 payment, $54.11 of it goes to interest! That's just not right! With Home Depot's credit practices, it is impossible to pay off the debt.

On my 1/6/2010 statement, I received notice that "due to regulatory mandates, our promotional offers for purchases over $299 must change. Starting Feb. 22, 2010, any eligible purchases posted to your account will require a minimum monthly payment". I called customer service to see if this would affect my existing no interest and no payment plan. To my surprise, they said that it would. I do plan to make the minimum payments and pay the full balance before the due date. However, I question the legality of this practice. In my mind, this company is breaking their contract. Furthermore, they are trying to make it appear that they are being forced by law to do so. This is a shoddy business practice.

On 6-2009, HD credit card service increased APR from 19 p/c to 27 p/c. I have a very good credit rating and pay all my accounts on time. They gave no excuse why APR was going up except that they just felt like it. I complained to them, to the BBB, FTC, to the comptroller of banks and everyone else, and no one did nothing. No one cared, just like our government that has been going down the tube for the last 20 years. HD claims a notice was sent out in early Jan 2008 to all card holders that we could opt out if we didn't want the high APR. I never received such notice, anywhere, anytime. This is a falsehood on their part. So now, I am stuck paying off a predatory APR and I will never step foot inside a Home Depot even if I needed one nail.
They've lost my business permanently and I know many of their stores will go out of business. With their sorry attitude towards their loyal customers, other customers need to be aware of their tactics. They lie very well. They are trying to make more money from the consumer with higher APRs to make up for the huge losses at their building stores caused by the recession, they have all but set my budget back.

I was referred to a HVAC contractor by Home Depot. After deciding on this contractor who mentioned 12 month no interest on HD card, I decided to apply. I called and emailed to inquire about 12 month 0 interest. Was told via phone only 6 month existed! I noticed online that 12 mon was available on HVAC installation. I applied online and received 1200 (not enough for 12K job). I called number on temporary card to request increase. I was asked several question about credit info (i.e. car loan company, etc.)passed series of questions, but was then transferred to someone else who asked me questions about my nieces residence, ex-husband's sister's birth month, which I explained I had no knowledge. Asked about my twin sister's rental property and several other addresses.
Nevertheless was denied credit because I couldn't be "verified & high fraud rate online." Explained questions had no relevance to me & credit report. Ashley, Judgmental Coach & Teresa, Credit Underwriter,(Tenn) "can't change questions." Went into store, store personnel couldn't believe my story and called credit division. Stacy & Joe (Florida call ctr),"we use public database-it's info that is in my report" I check credit report monthly, since bank institution had laptop stolen several years ago...all info correct! How would I know my ex-husband's sister's birth month! My twin sister's rental property addressess or her daughter's city of residence? WHY was I denied credit with a 700+ credit score? If home depot doesn't want to give credit, say so, but don't put up BOGUS questions that have nothing to do with me!

We had a Home Depot credit card for many years. We actually built up an available limit of 12,000 just by keeping it for so long! We never used anywhere near that amount. And our payment history was perfect. But we were suddenly cut to 6,000 without explanation. APR's have continued to continuously climb, along with minimum amount due increasing also. We were also cut once again for no reason on available credit. We called the bank that handles HD's credit card. No luck of course. We were told that "this is how they handle all Home Depot customers". We called HD to see if they cared about losing a customer due to the callous attitude of their bank. We went as high as an executve in the Atlanta corpoate office. But they "could not do anything" about it!! Since THEY chose the bank, that of course is incorrect!! Since the original cut in available credit and APR hike, we stopped shopping there for ANYTHING!!

The Home Depot makes it completely impossible to pay a certain kind (home improvement loan) of account online. I pay all my credit accounts online. The Home Depot is certainly a large-enough company to facilitate this type of transaction; and in fact, they do, for all but this type of account.
When collectors from CITI (who apparently own the loan) call me, I always ask them WHY cant I just log on to Home Depot's site and pay my loan. Their answer is always the maddeningly inane "This type of account cannot be paid online". Which is not an answer to the question of "WHY?"!!
I understand that in the world of home finance, loans are sold to other institutions. Such is the case with both of my mortgages. In each of those cases however, I was notified in writing and am able to pay the new loan-holder online. What's with the secrecy with Home Depot? IS there some gain in them continuing to send me statements with constantly changing due dates on behalf of the true lender, making their payment cycle so hard to track, and pocketing late fees mothly as a result?

The credit company charged a late fee on my account on 8/31. My internet payment arrived on 9/1, which is the date I was told my payments would be due when I first opened the account. They refused to refund the late fee because they said I complained too late.

I received my invoice this month and noticed one of my promo balances ended and I was hit with over $200 in finance charges. I called Home depot's 800 credit card # to see if they would extend my promo period so I had a little more time to pay it off. The woman I spoke to was extremely sarcastic, and rude. I explained that I spend thousands in Home Depot all the time and she can look at my acct and see that and see that I pay on time. She said "because people like you can't pay your promo balances on time before they expire doesn't mean that's our problem and we need to do anything to help you". I couldn't beleive how rude she was, I said "So you're telling me you'd rather me go shop at Lowes or another store like that rather than spending all the money i do at Home Depot because you're not willing to help me out?" She said I could do what I wanted, that there was nothing she was going to do for me. I'm not only upset about the fact that I spend thousands and thousands at this store between my card and my husbands, but also because of how rudely I was treated. I know if this woman wanted to she could have done something to remedy the situation and had a happy customer on her hands. Instead she was rude and obnoxious and I will NEVER shop at Home Depot again.

I made an electronic check phone payment on 10/19/2009. My bill was not due until 10/23/2009 so it was paid four days in advance. I called to check the amount I had left on the card and the prompt told me that my payment was not yet received. I went online and printed a copy of the electronic check made out to Home Depot and I also printed out a copy of my band statement that showed that it indeed went through as the electronic check # matched the check # on my account. I took the copies to the Westminster Maryland Home Depot Office and showed them what was going on and they called their own customer service and the faxed them a copy of the electronic check and the date it was cashed. A few days later I called to see if it have been straightened out and I was told by a Customer Service Rep that they had no record of a fax from the Westminster store. So, I faxed it from my home. It is now November 3rd and they still have no record of the two faxes and have sent me a bill with a late fee assessed and have put my account in default and raised my percentage rate to 29.9 percent. I am going to file a complaint with The Consumer Protection Agency

I made an electronic payment on 10-19-2009 on my Home Depot account. My bank gave me a confirmation number showing the funds had been transfered. On the same day, Home Depot charged me a late fee of $39.00, si I called them and they tried to blame my bank. They agreed to remove the late fee, but they refuse to remove the record of a late payment from my account and they say it will be reported as a late payment to the credit reporting companies. I called my bank and they told me Home Depot and received my payment and confirmed it on 10-19-2009 which was the payment due date. My bank added that they could not have given me a confirmation number unless and until the payee had acknowledged the receipt of the funds. Home Depot is penalizing me for their failure to post my payment in a timely fashion. I made my payment on the due date, received confirmation of it, and they still refuse to remove the late payment notice from my account. I also found out they have been charging me $46.69 a year for what they call a "Balance Protection Fee" (Credit Life) which I never signed up for or authorized. Of course, they couldn't do anything about that, I have to call another number to address that issue.

Home Depot balance paid and then they billed me for $69.39, interest they say, my balance was paid in full....before the due date.
Loan sharks?????????? We will be closing our accounts, for good. Lowes, here we come.

We were in a bind, and had to take out a line of credit last summer to fix our air-conditioning. We took out a line of credit to have our system replaced (+/- $6,000). After the grace period ran out, they GOUGED us with +/- 25% interest. Then, I took out a consumer loan with my credit union to pay off the Home Depot balance as soon as I could. Approx. three or four weeks ago, I paid off the ENTIRE balance. We then had +/- $500 credit on the account. Two weeks ago we closed the account, and asked for a check to be sent to us. Even after numerous e-mails, and phone calls requesting our check, we are STILL waiting.

I applied for a credit card account while at Home Depot after being solicited by the sales rep to do so for a "12 months same as cash" promotion. After the sales rep entered all of my credit information into the computer, and took my driver license, a message came up on his computer asking that he call a number.
The sales rep called the number and spoke with a rep from the credit card company and the credit rep asked to speak to me. I get on the phone and she says that she needs to first ask me 4 questions before she can approve my account. (Keep in my mind that my credit score is 730 and I have never been turned down for credit before and have a few revolving accounts with retailers) I then tell her that my English is not very good and could she maybe talk to my wife who was with me and she said no, she said she can get an interpreter on the line to help.
Once the translator came on the line, I had some difficulty hearing due to the conference call and trouble understanding the dialect of the translator. They both begin to ask me questions like "What counties have I been associated with in the past" and they also read a list of counties and asking me to verify which one I live in. I was confused by the question of them saying "I have been associated with" rather than simply to say "I have lived in before" (my wife later explained to me that it was maybe just a more professional form of communication) and when I told the rep that I did not understand the question she said "pay attention!" and then she asked another question and said for me to state if I am "associated with the numbers 6915."
I ask her to repeat the question because I did not understand. I was becoming frustrated with not understanding her questions, and still not understanding why I was even being asked these questions or how it related to my application for credit. I told her this and I also said "I had no problem in buying my house, so why is it so hard to open an account with Home Depot." She said to me sternly that "I applied for the credit and it is my responsibility to answer all of her questions."
My wife was with me and she became frustrated as well (it had been over 15 minutes now) and I told my wife what they were asking. I told her they want to know what "6915" is and she said "that is the number of our first apt." and then my wife said to me, "Why are they asking that? You live in Boone County and you have for 3 years. Do they need to know that you lived in Fayette County before when we were in another city?" I honestly did not know the name of the county for when we first lived in Lexington, KY and I have only lived in the US for about 5 years anyway. When I said this to the rep, "Before I lived in Fayette County, is that what you are asking?" she tells me then that I am being "coached" by my wife and therefore would not get to have a credit card.
I gave the phone to the home depot sales rep and he then talks to the credit rep and he also says to her that he has never had to put anyone through this type of interrogation before for a card. He said that the information will come up either "approved" or not when he enters the info and he wanted to know why they had to ask so many questions. They would not answer. My wife asked him to get the name of the credit rep so she and I could file a complaint and she did not give her name to him but did give a phone number that I could call.
I feel that I was being discriminated against for my race, and by my last name sounding foreign. My credit is excellent and there would be absolutely no reason to be denied credit, and especially no reason for me to have to be interrogated about prior addresses when this is not done to other applicants for the same card. If you look at my credit report you will see that I have excellent credit.
I need some sort of explanation as to why I was put through those questions. It seems unfair. I showed the sales rep at the store my driver license, my green card and my social security card even. He even told this to the credit rep. I think I have been discriminated against and will look at how I can file a complaint.

Home Depot is disontinuing their Mastercard Rewards program (for all customers). Accounts will be closed as of October 31, 2009 whether or not you have a balance due. This will be reported to the credit reporting agencies with a notation of "account closed by grantor." This will reflect negatively on individuals credit reports due to one; having an account closed by the grantor; two, having an account closed with a balance due.

Three days after the installation I received a letter from Home Depot Credit services informing me that my interest rate was raised to 30% and my credit limit was reduced to $300 BELOW the charge for the recent services!! I can hardly wait to see if my next bill has over limit fees attached. If it does, I am going to walk from the entire charge! I am supposed to have six months to pay it off with no interest and no required monthly minimum payments. I had used the card only once before and paid it in full.
I have never been late for any payment, have never been over the limit due to a charge authorized by me on any card, have always paid more than the amount due and before the due date on all my cards. I do not deserve this treatment and I am not alone! The banks seem to be racing to get their pound of flesh before February 2010; better the law was made effective immediately!

With no income, savings,or insurance and multiple bills she was placed on Supplemental Social Security with a payment of $50.00 per month (remaining 800.00 is sent to the nursing home she will be in for the next year or so). Unable to pay the Home Depot and subject to depression, on her behalf I called Home Depot Credit as directed on the bill.
I then followed thier instruction to submit in writing her circumstances, along with power of attorney forms and statement of SSI income.I offered a settlemet using my own funds to provide emotional relief to my sister.Home Depot's response was to begin incessant telephone calls to my sister, sometimes 4 calls a day. I contacted them on several occassions asking that they stop the calls. I was given numbers to call that only had recorded messages. In the meantime her bill has increased to nearly $500.00 due to nonpayment charges and 29.99% interest charges.
Home Depot has won. I will find a way to pay them. I have been a loyal customer of HD for many years, but will never set foot in their door again due to their treatment of those who find themselves suddenly disabled and at HD mercy.I ask the reader to join me, stop shopping at Home Depot in protest to their unmerciful behavior.Use your social networks to encourage others to join the protest.

I made a payment online from their website. The payment i made was for $35.00. When i check my bank account the next day, the took out almost 1400.00. The paid the balance off. Which caused my bank to be in the red. When i called them to dispute it the only thing they could do is maybe mail me a check in 7-10. why can they debit an account and they cant credit makes no sense to me. my bank account is now negative, and have to shell out more money than i have

The customer service rep said there is no more finance charge for my statement for august month's bill. However, I still get charge for it. I spoke to customer service rep, financial rep, and account manager. They all said they cannot wave for my finance charge. I do not understand why I still get charge for the finance charge if they told me to subtract finance charge amount from the total balance? The second customer rep that I spoke to said there will be no finance charges for August's statement. Howcome finance charges still accure?
I do not have problems with other credit company. They wave charges and will be no more charge for the following months. I feel that the homedpot rewards master card company is not a good organization and they do not know how to treat people. They are not well train and do not tell customer the consequences if customer do not paid the total balance. I learned my lession and I do not want other people to get what I got. So please let people know that It is better to pay all total balance rather than the difference of finance charge and total balance. Thank you.

Last month called Home Depot to see if 26.99% APR could be lowered (was being charged $55.55 out of $82 for finance charges). Person said nothing could be done at that time because of a "late-payment" that occured less than 6-months earlier. She advised trying in Sept. I called requesting a lowering of APR. this month (Sept) and was told that the 26.99% was not because of an earlier late payment, but that that was the agreed upon interest rate for this account and was non-negotiable. This isn't right. Please help!

25 percent on my home depot card, interest that is. my loyalty to Hd has been great over the years. I buy all my house repair needs from the homewood store.please guys that is a bit much.i will pay off my card and go to another store.

I contacted Home Depot to explain that I was having financal problems, my wife getting laid off if i could get my rates lowered or to see if anything could be done. Home Depot told me that I would have to miss payments, so I would have to have a collections person call me first to settle anything. But if I miss payments then I would have to pay 39.00 for every payment missed. It seems to me all they want me to do is miss payments so they can get there fees, I am trying in good faith to pay them but i think it is unfair for them to have miss payment so they can get there fees.

I got a Home Depot Creidt card last year in August. They said the first month I was 30 Days late. I have never been late on anything in my life much less a $10 min. payment. I paid the card off in full when I learned of this and again this month they say I was late. I have begged and asked that they please remove this from my credit and they refuse. I am a developer and this makes a big impact on my borrowing ability and has cost me $100 of thousands of dollars. I need some help to get this removed. If I need to get a local attorney I can and will. Please let me know.

Ive had my HD card since 2005, my account opened with a $2500 limit, and an interest rate of 15.99% I have used the account frequently, and paid off, charged, so on. I got the love letter a few months ago about the interest rate increasing to 25.99%. I didnt give much thought since i always spend over 300 to get the 6-12 month special.
My current balance is 994.06, which left roughly $1500 open to buy. I wanted to make a $400 purchase, and my card was declined, in front of God and the whole store. I called CITI, guess what, my credit limit was LOWERED to 1000 due to economic conditions! This act also lowered my FICO score! Beware!

I had the account for years and made my monthly payments. I received a letter from them saying that they were closing my account with them. The reason was something on my credit. I have a closed account with them but why should or do I have to pay fee or interest any longer. I was wondering if I could go to small claims court and pay them a monthly payment through the courts.

I read about credit card companies using predatory tactics to raise interest rates, but I thought customers would be too important to Home Depot in a tight economy to risk that kind of crap. Wrong. I suddenly discovered my interest rate had been raised to 26.99% without ever seeing a notice that there would be a change, no late payments, no overdrafts, no terms violations of any kind. They claim there's nothing they can do, they have to recover their losses from last year, and supposedly they sent out notices.

Home Depot continues to charge me for disputed fraudulent charges in excess of $5000.00. They are charging excessive interest and late fees. My credit has been adversely affected. Home Depot has lowered my credit limit and reported fraudulent debt to credit reporting agencies. They have over $5600.00 they should not have received from me.

Rep said they would not let us keep the old rate at 21.00%. It would be 25.99% or nothing. I have never been late or very often carry a balance. The balance right now is under $600.00 and we pay them more than the minimum due which is $10.00. We pay $50.00 a month in order to get it paid, because part is no interest if paid in 6 months.

I currently have a loan application in process and was told by the bank that we have a single negative entry on our credit record, which was placed by Home Depot indicating a late payment in 2008. I have no record of any late payment ever. I was told that unless I could prove it was a bank error, the entry could not be removed. I must ask, could this have been a Home Depot error? However, we were told that unless we can prove it is a bank error, they could not do anything for us. Our credit rating is spotless but for this entry made by your people. I have been offered no help to resolve this problem.
The consequences are probably not going to impact me, the bank will not be concerned by this single entry. However, I currently have a zero balance on my account and that is exactly what I will spend at Home Depot from now on. I will never use your facilities again. We have other fine stores close by and it will not be a burden to use those stores rather than Home Depot. I will simply stay away from your facilities and will be certain my friends and family understand my reasons.

My fiance was just looking around in a Home Depot store and she was stopped by a salesperson and asked if she have a Home Depot card, she was out of work due to disability at the time, she told the lady, so the lady told her that she could use her fiance, if she had his ss # and that she was going to call me for an approval. I never got a call and the lady at the store told my fiance that it was okay, opened the account and my fiance used it.
My fiance was paying the card with her disabilities and she told me, but here is the thing, we had paid it off but had to use it again, so I got laid off after 17 years, my fiance had become ill, we were unable to pay. When I did go back to work, Home Depot doesn't want to work with me, and I was trying to consult all of my debt because I have always had good credit. I was advised because I never signed an agreement, I shouldn't be held liable. I also advised Home Depot, if they would go back, take all of the bad debt off, late fees, correct my credit, I would keep the card and pay what is owed, but they want to keep calling and harassing. Is that fair to me? Then one lady tried to get smart with my fiance and say "well, what your fiance should do is take out a warrant against you."
First, they should not have opened an account without my signature. The lady in the store tricked my fiance just to get an account. They have to make so many quotas in opening an account, and my fiance thought that she had spoken with me. My credit report is messed up! They call my fiance all day long, harassing her.

My balance never goes down. My payments get higher every month. The more payments I make, the more interest they charge. I will never get out of this rut. The interest is at 26.99, I feel that this is an abuse and robbery. The card belongs to my daughter but I am the one that used the card so I am paying on it. I am on a fixed income on SS disability and this is getting worse for me.

I am Home Depot customer. Charging me and whom ever else 25.99% APR is NOT going to get the economy ANYWHERE! All a 25.99% APR is going to do is cause MORE DEFAULTS! Home Depot cards WERE good cards to have for fixing up your home, but since the economy NOT DOING GOOD, they have made it next to impossible for a working person to use their card with the HIGH 25.99% APR. WHOOPIE, they offer 0% interest for 6 months IF you spend $299 or more, BUT if you have smaller purchase the interest is OUTRAGEOUS! I would NOT recommend a Citi Home Depot card to anyone!

We have had an account with Home Depot since 2006 when we purchased flooring for a home we were selling. We have paid at least the monthly amount, usually a bit more on time each month. In March and April 2009 we were a couple of days late and the gracious folks at Citicorp DOUBLED our interest rate (15 % to 30 %) and charged us a late fee. I'm not disputing the late fees, but doubling our interest rate to the rate they state is a default rate is just plain greedy. We're attempting to resolve this with them, but after reading other comments, I'm not optimistic. We aren't in default right now, but if they won't resolve the matter and do what's right, we very well could be.
Due to the increase from 15 to 30 percent interest, we will be in a perpetual past due state. There is no possibility of maintaining those kind of payments at this time and we shouldn't have to. Even mortgage companies give people a 15 day grace period.

Said they sent a letter out rasing interest but I never received one. Payment went up then went up again thats when I called and found out The $70.70 on statement that said purchase Cash AD was Interest so my payment only $30.30 would go on the bill so no way I will ever get this paid off I have no extre money.

I sent them a letter but they didn't think they did any wrong. I would appreciate any info. about this. (The only reason I'm writing now is because they keep sending me ad's on my computer)~so I dug up this old letter.

I have been making attempts since 2006 while serving in Iraq to close my credit account and have it reported closed to the credit companies closed. I have been told by Home Depot personnel by phone that after two years of no use on the account, it would automatically close. It is 2009 and still I am making attempts to close this account and report the closing to my credit report. I do not reside in the U.S. and have not been to the U.S. in years and have no plans to come to the U.S. anytime soon.
The last call to Home Depot advised me to wait until I return to U.S. and call to close this account. Why? I would be very grateful if [they] could convince personnel to close this account as requested for the 5th time in the past four years. I feel it is a simple request and does not breach any laws of me wanting to close an account in good standing. Please advise me if I am wrong.
This account that is not in use shows open on my credit report. I have accomplished closing all accounts in the U.S. except this account by phone call or e-mail and want to insure the safety of my credit report and that no accounts could be used in my absence from the U.S. For the safety and security of my credit report and the absence of my presence, I would feel safer that this account show closed on my credit report and in good standing closed with company.

At 11pm on 4/3/09, I logged on to make my payment. By due date/time is 5pmPST 4/4/09 (still 17+ hours away). I noticed a late charge was already posted to recent activity for $35.00 dated 4/4/09. (Remember it's 17hours before its due and still 1 hour the day before. I made my online payment. I used their Contact Us and asked how they can charge a late fee before the deadline has even arrived. I asked them to remove the late charge fee. I got a response back around an hour later (still about 16 hours before the due date/time). They said we can't reverse it as your payment hasn't posted. (It is STILL not late yet, remember).
As I write this, the payment due date/time is 16 hours in the future. I have my payment confirmation number, with date/time of payment in their email. I took screen shots of the browser showing what time it was and the POST-DATED late charge. How in the world can the customer service person who answered my query about this not see how they're in error and not fix it?
So far, about 2 hours of time messing around trying to fix their blatant error. We'll see how much more time is spent.

I have a line of credit w/ Home Depot (HD). I made a payment of $100 to my HD account in October 2008. This would be the last bill I would receive from HD. After having a causal conversation in Dec 2008 about home repairs with my family, I realized that I still had not received a bill from Home Depot for November or December 2008. I then called the customer service # on the back of my home depot credit card to see if I had a payment due. I was certain that there was a small balance left on my card. HD automated system confirmed that my payment for Nov was late and I immediately made a $50 payment to get my account current. I thought nothing of it at this point.
In Jan 2009, I went to refinance my car and house and noticed I wasn't getting the rates I thought I should be getting. My credit score was at or above 700 for all 3 credit beureas. I then ordered a credit report to see if it could explain why I wasn't being offered better rates. My experian score was a 686, my equifax was 650 and my Transunion was 649. I thought to myself, "this is NOT right." Sure enough, when I looked at my report more closely, I noticed that HD had slapped a "30-day" late tag on my report. So, from here I started researching. I needed to see these bills that I did NOT get (for Nov and Dec 2008). I found out that HD had an online account service that I could sign up for to receive bills electronically. I did this ONLY because I wanted to see the bill I never got for Nov and Dec 08.
Turns out my bill for Nov 08 was due 11/17/2008. Minimum due was a whopping $10. This was the bill that was responsible for the 30 day late fee. I paid it on 12/22/2008 and it was a total of 35 days late all together. I called HD on 1/29/209 at 12:25pm. I forgot to write down the reps name that I spoke with but I'm pretty sure it was a male. Basically, I told him what happened. I told him I never received a statement from HD in Nov, Dec 08, Jan and Feb 09. He said they would investigate the matter but if no BANK error was found, there was nothing they could do to change my account. I mentioned to him that HD MUST take this late tag off my credit report. After all, it is not my fault that HD uses a 3rd party to deliver their mail in the USPS. If it was that important to HD, they would ensure the mail they send out it being delivered promptly. But the rep mentioned to me that their systems showed they delivered my bill and the rep actually got a little testy with me. I think I remember asking him if he delivered my personally..
Obviously the answer to that would have been 'no.' I also brought up a few more points while on the phone with the HD rep. To my knowledge, fair debt collection practices include giving notice and sending invoices. I also mentioned to them that I have been a loyal customer for 2 years. I have never had a late payment on the card before. In addition, I have spent thousands of dollars in their store. Also, they gave me a credit line of $3300. Would HD have given me this credit line if they didn't think I could make a $10 minimum payment on time? Finally, the rep told me that home depot sends all their bills out to credit customers btwn the 19th and 23rd of every month. There processing center is in Atlanta. I live in Charlotte.
Now, based on when I called them (1/28/09) and close proximity btwn Charlotte and Atlanta (roughly a 4 hour drive), I should have had February 2009 bill by then. But there was still no statement from HD. After bringing up all these points, HD wouldn't budge on changing it. The rep said they will have to let the investigation run its course. He mentioned it would take 8-14 days for the investigation to run its course and that I should call back then. I said, "OK." Then in Feb, I wrote letters to all 3 of the credit beureas asking them to take the 30 day late hit off of my credit report. I tried this in desperation. They all wrote me back and their answer was NO. And I don't blame them for this one bit.
They report what HD tells them to and this wasn't their fault. however, I figured I should cover all my bases and try. I did and it was obviously not successful. At 11am on 2/19/2009, I spoke with a HD credit services rep (Nikki). I wanted to find out the results of my investigation. She said that there was no bank error found and there was nothing that HD could do for me. I asked for her to escalate me to some sort of credit resolutions team so I could talk to a decision maker. She informed me that they would tell me the same thing and that the investigation serves as their escalation process. I expressed to her my disappointment and that I would have to find alternate mean to get this issue resolved. That is where I am at right now. Either HD didn't send me a bill OR the post office screwed up. Either way, not my fault as companies are OBLIGATED to ensure bills get to their customers.

My interest rate which was 15.48% on a balance of $24,900 was increased WITHOUT NOTICE to 21.99%. I spoke to Credit Dept Manager Mr. Carston who told me that because of the economy this was done. This is a massive increase which means I may have to default instead of getting out of this loan. I have been a model customer and spent over $40000 with Home Depot. I pay on time, much more than the minimum payment and never been late. This will make my credit unbearable and put my budget out of control. The credit dept told me that I will have to pay this month's newly computed amount of $685 and in future I can revert back to the 15.81 % and they will close my account.
My previous minimum payment was $561.00 per month and now they have increased it to $685.00 per month! I will never be able to get out of this situation if this is allowed to stand.

We purchased several big ticket items on promotional, six and twelve months no interest plans. Home Depot kept applying payments to our revolving balance rather than the promotional balances, causing the interest accrued to go up exponentially. I contacted them several times over a three month period in order to have the payments reapplied, only to have the following months' bill be incorrect as well. The fourth month (October of 2008) I spent over an hour on the telephone and was subsequently hung up on. I called back and spoke with a supervisor, who went through each bill with me, put through several adjustments including three months of interest reversals as well as a one time $150 credit for the amount of pain and suffering I'd incurred over the previous four months. She came up with a final total balance owed, and I paid off the account in full. I heard nothing at all for five months, then I received a bill in the amount of $686.69 in February. I have been fighting with them ever since; they've now added a late fee. Please, please tell me how to proceed!

We are in a very difficult state with our economy. I have fallen behind in my bills and I am trying to settle my accounts. I enrolled with a debt settlement company. Home Depot has never been an issue I have always paid them on time /in full or more that the minimum payment. Recently they decided under the universal clause that they can do a credit check and they decreased my limit. When I tired to explain to them my situation they did not want to hear it. Unfortunately people in this company have no brains.
They read you a script and try to pacifier you! In a way they are discriminating against people because when you are willing to provide them with proof they do not want it and that is wrong. I will be canceling my card with them over the years we have invested in them and this is not the way to go... I guess they would rather loose a customer than keep one It is a shame because they have made their money over and over that they really do not care about the consumer and we are who made them be who they are today!
This is the moment when they should be helpful to us. This is killing my credit because I am trying to settle we are responsible for our actions but when I am taking responsibility and are doing something about it.. They should acknowledge it as well I am not saying that my credit is perfect it is not but why hurt it even more when I have been in good standing with them for a long time. They feed you a lot of horse crap and they have lost their values.

I recieved a bill from Citi concerning my account and in that bill was a notice that the terms of my credit card were cahnging from 21% to 25.99% with a default of 29.99%. I have not missed payments on any of my credit and when I asked for a reason nothing was cited other than this can be done at any time.
I have clesed this account with them and I am paying off the balance of $2000 at an accelerated rate of $500 mo.

We have had a Home Depot card for several years. We paid more than the minimum amt. and realized our promotional purchases were not being paid on. So after getting slapped with $102 finance charge on our promotional purchase, I called Home Depot wondering why. According to them, in order for your extra payments to apply to the promotion, you have to call home depot and inform them of this. Outraged, I questioned them to as why on the statements there is not one mention of this.
Also, at a trip to home depot I mentioned this to a sales person and stated that their promotions weren't so great when you were getting socked with accrued finance charges. I wondered out loud as to why we didn't have a choice to accept the promotion or not. He stated that, that's just the way it goes. I read my statement from top to bottom and no where does it state this. Of course, with no one giving us answers we closed our account.
It jacked our minimum payments up by $25.00+

Home Depot has taken away their grace period on their credit cards. My payment was due on the 3rd of the month, they received it on the 4th. They called it late and charged me a $34.95 late payment. Then when I asked to talk to management, they left me on hold for a half hour, until I hung up.
$70 in late fees, plus I had to come up with $899 to close out my account ASAP.

They are gouging the consumers. Raised already high credit card rates to 25%+. Never been late and havent abused the card what-so-ever. They have the highest rate of any card I have ever posessed and then they raise it again. Tough times lead to tough decisions. Out with the Depot card and hello to the Lowes or just use the visa/mastercard from now on.
The good people of america should stand up to this and let it be heard that price gouging is not acceptable. Write to the BBB in Atlanta, GA and let them know your not happy.

I was charged 1291.00 finance charge once the no interest promotional rate was over! I thought the interest would start at the end of the promotional rate. I had no idea interest accrued and you would have to pay it ALL -if there was a balance left.
This is devastating in this economy!

I received in my new statement a clause for my credit card for Home Depot which stated that my APR 22.9% rate was going up to the default rate of 26.9% APR. 22.9% is horrible enough, but to send it up to 26.9% is worse. When I called customer service all they said was that it was the state of the economy. Yes we are all in the same boat! So because no is buying Home Depot decided to raise their rates even though I have a good rating, I pay more than the required amount and I pay ON TIME!

I called to question how my payments are disbursed between revolving and promotional. I also asked if the terms and conditions were available on-line and how the late charges are determined. I was told that the late charge is based only on my revolving. When I pointed out that the plain language on the statement and the total amount included the promotional they gave me some balderdash that made no sense at all. I found this very deceptive and unhelpful. I also questioned how they can charge %22.99 for an interest rate which I believed to be illegal and they said it is legal. The difference in the late payment (I was late because their day for payments ends at 3 PM).
I was also told that when I make a payment online or in person that I have to call to direct how the payment will be distributed among the various categories. This is the most confusing and to be cynical deceptive credit system I have ever encountered. They essentially have a monopoly in my area and act like it. I noticed that some suits have been filed on these issues; have they been resolved yet? Any information would be helpful because I am paying much more attention to these matters during these stressful times. Also, they tried to pitch me on a "balance-protector" at each stage of contact until I finally got to Shane the Resolution Specialist. He resolved nothing. They both gave the good people of Tennessee a bad name!

We paid off our bill of $3,700 , We called first to see how much we owed and the Chase card added some more to the bill for just to make sure we would not owe any more. We used Chase card to pay off Home Depot be cause Chase was only 3% so a bank transfer was sent to Home Depot for the amount they said. They said we would get $78.00 and i asked at least four times i called once a day and they said it would take 3weeks or so, then we only got one check for $39.74 then i called to see were the other one is and the lady said they have interest and they dont add that on when we ask for the total she Karen said its not posable to do that at the time i ask for the total to pay off. So they took the other around $39.00 as a interest on the total we payed off.You think they could figure out how much interest would be on the $3,700 bill if that was true. I say it a rip off to charge interest on a payed off bill and say they dont know the interest at the time i call to pay it off.

In making a Home Depot purchase I was asked to sign up for a Home Depot credit card that provided for interest free - no payments for one year credit. One month prior to the end of the year period the credit card balance was paid in full. The following month a statement was received billing for a "Promotional Balance" demanding payment with the threat of billing interest on the balance of the original purchase if not paid within the required period.

I thought I had an $8,500 Line of credit through Home Depot's Credit Card Program. After missing my December 08 payment of $10, my card was put into an inactive status, and unusable at the counter. I paid cash, and closed my account over the phone. The term credit to me means that it is availbe because the company believes I will pay it back.
Under my card terms, I have agree to pay certain penalties if I miss a payment. It appears that the terms of credit card have changed for HD since I opened the account in October 08. My good standings with the big three credit report agencies doesnt seem to mean anything.
My large home building project has been delayed, and I have varous cashflow issues costing me time. I am seeking other means of funding through other companies.

Manager at Halsted store (Kathy) will not honor home depot card. She said that she would call the police if I would not leave the store. She said that the company that rents space from Home Depot has nothing to do with Home Depot. Or deliver the said glass window under fair value.

I missed my Nov. payment to my Home Depot account ($16.00). I did not recieved any letter or calls regarding the missed payment. I did receive my next statment showing that $67.00 is due on Jan. 5, 2009. For the last two days I've recieved harassing phone calls regarding the Jan. payment. This is Dev. 28, 2008.
After going through all of the option I ended up with a message: Please call back later, no one is available now. 20 mins. later, I get the same call again, and again. Last year I purchase a $10,000.00 heat pump from Home Depot...it's paid off. My credit rating is 795. thay have lost a very good custoner.
A LOT OF STRESS!

They charged me on my debit card but told me the charge was declined. I ended up paying in cash for the product. I checked my bank account to see what went wrong and discovered that The Home Depot actually did charge my account.
Debbie (assistant manager) and Anna (in charge of the bookkeeping) were extremely rude to me and refused to help in any way. Anna hung up the phone on me. I have never been treated in such a horrible way anywhere. They are unprofessional and lack any customer service skills. They were condescending and hurt my feelings. They made the store look bad, unprofessional and lacking customer service. What's even worse is that I asked to speak to the store manager and the first night they told me he wasn't there and when I asked to speak to him the next day he didn't even answer his phone. He is not answering his phone and I don't know what his schedule is like, told me Anna. Not only have I been humiliated in that store but they also haven't refunded me the extra charge. I will make sure that everyone I know knows about this.

For 2 mths in a row Home Depot has assessed finance charges despite my having paid my revolving balance in full. They made an error the 1st time but apparently it takes 2 mths to fully resolve the issue as the system assesses residual finance charges. Instead of acknowledging the error the 2nd time and explaining the above, the resolution specialist was arrogant and rude and proceeded to inform me that she would enlighten me on why the charges were assessed (incorrectly).
Home Depot deliberately makes their statements very confusing so that customers will not be able to figure out what is revolving and what is promotional. A previous class action suit tried to address this but their tactics have not changed.

I didn't receive a bill for November. I called them on the 21st. to ask for one and was told that they sent a bill three days earlier and was charged a late fee. I went to the local H.D. and service called for me and the late fee was removed, they informed me that I needed to pay $52.00 and I wouldn't have to send a payment in for Dec. I did so at the service desk. My bill arrived on Nov. 29th and I find that I am now being charged interest on my no interest purchases. I have been told that this is a common practice with this company. I have had my account with them for many years and have never been late and never missed a payment.

I foolishly opened a HD credit account last year, with 0% financing for 12 months. The account was for kitchen cabinets and totaled nearly 15k. The cabinets came in, not as ordered, and about half were returned. The store acknowledged the mistake on two separate occasions. The cabinets were then reordered. The store has continued to charge me for the cost of this reorder, even though I did not agree to pay for their mistake, and even though I never signed for the change order necessary.
I would think that credit card companies would require proof that the sale was legitimate before debiting customer accounts. Contact with Monogram Credit Card Bank, the sponsor of the HD card has not been acknowledged. All changes to contracts are required to be signed by the customer. I have done this in the past with no problem. They did initially offer to split the difference with me, which may seem fair. However, I accepted about half of the cabinets NOT as ordered, in order to facilitate the use of my kitchen. The remainder of the order came in later.
After protesting for a couple of months, the store did credit us for the total amount. Then, it was put back on the bill. I have spoken to HD's Customer Care representatives ad nausem with no results. They take the call, act sympathetic, then never call back. This has been going on for months. The amount in dispute is about $3200. to correct their mistake. I
None yet. I anticipate the account going to collection and as a result a lowered credit rating. I have contacted the US Trade Commission in DC as well as the Attorney General in Illinois.

Homedepot credit card used for two seperate no interest no payment promotions for total $2159 with both due in 2009 with the latest purchased in Sept. 2008 for carpet and install. In Oct 2008 I paid $235 toward the bill and was credited on Oct 17th. The Nov. 2008 bill showed a late fee of $39 plus interest charge of $1.
In reviewing the Nov bill I noticed a $35 non-promotional charge. I contacted Homedepot and was told the $35 was for the measurement of the carpet and was not part of the promotion and since the $235 cleared on the 17th and not the 14th that a late fee was charged plus interest. I questioned the late fee of $39 and was told it was calculated using the total bill of $2159 which includes the promotional cost plus the measurement fee.
Late fee of $39 for $35 charge. Since the promtion required no payment for 6 months how can they use the promotion cost to calculate late fee's? Nothing written on back of bill about this.

I have always paid my bill on time and paid more than the minimum and yesterday 10/11/2008 I received a letter from Home Depot cancelling my credit card. I'm appauled and will never shop with them again. I have a Lowe's card and will use them. This is crazy.

I paid my personal account and my business account on one check, seeing that it goes to the same place and put both forms in the same envelope. I received my next month statement with a late fee on my personal account and a $50.00 credit on my business account. When I phoned in the lady said she would take care of this and waive the late fee since I was not late. My husband went to use the personal account credit card and it was declined.
I called them and they were very RUDE to me, saying that I never phoned in to take care of this. I am really frustrated about this whole ordeal. I have been a loyal customer with them for many many years and I can't believe this is how they treat people. I paid $341.94 which was the balance due on the business account and $50.00 which was $40.00 more than what the minimum due was...the balance on the personal is only $324.00 and only $10.00 was due.
They made an error and they need to make good on it. With the economy the way it is, they are lucky people are still paying their bills.

Last month I got a letter from Citibank stating that my Home Depot Account was past due. I called to ask how it was since I had been set up since day 1 with Home Depot with a bill paying service to pay my bill? The cs rep stated that she did not know about any such service although my account did show that payments were made every month and that I had not had a late payment ever. She told me that she would waive the late fee as a courtesy while I investigated as to what happened.
However, I still had to pay the entire amount due which included the late fee for which I was no longer responsible. I went ahead and paid the amount due via phone check. I asked her to tell me from whom Citibank was receiving previous payments. She told me that she could not do that and wish me luck trying to find this information. I hung up thinking that all I had to deal with was finding the bill payer service. I went on line to check my account and discovered that I now owed two months of payments and two late fees in addition to the returned check fee.
I called and was told I gave the wrong account number. I told Emma that I repeated the account number to the girl after she had it wrong. I asked Emma to repeat this number to me. She did and needless to say, the first cs rep never changed the number. Emma said that as a courtesy, she would waive the late fee for this month and the returned check fee. I asked how this was a courtesy since neither should have been assessed in the first place. She got quite rude.
Then she asked me if I wanted to make the payment today. I told her that I would pay what I actually owed two months of payments. She told me that I could not do that- that I had to pay the full $100+ bill since I was required to pay up front all fees assessed. I said that I did not have that amount to pay this month. She told me that if I did not, I would be assessed another late fee. I asked for the name of the bill paying service that had been paying the bill. Both cs reps told me that they did not have access to that information but I could check with Home Depot.
I called Home Depot and they told me that I would have to speak to credit services. Needless to say I am flustered. I have been told that citibank no longer dealt with ebillers and that is why the company stopped paying but I did not receive this notice. Citibank really does run a scam of increasing profits through late fee assessment.
late fees, higher interest rate, additional payments being made

Home Depot?Citibank is making calls to my home every 5 minutes including days, evening, weekends, and holidays. They also are not sending billings so that they may charge late fees and other charges.
The harassment is causing severe mental anguish and pain. I beleive that their collection practices are illegal and intentinally harrassing causing distress. I am 66 years old and it is elderly abuse.

We have always made over the minum payment, most of the time double the amount yet they still charge us a late fee enven when the payment has been there on the same due date. they say the extra part of the payment goes toward the princiapal and does not matter if you pay 3 to 4 times the amount they do not carry over the etra towrd the next payment. Every loan or other credit cards i have paid over the minumum amout they carred it over incase i was late they did not charge me a late fee.
We feel they are using the late fee to make us pay more interst. which makes them more money and we have not seen hardly any difference in the interst. If they are using the extra amount on the principal why has it not reflected on the balance and the interest rate. Causing us to pay more than they contract said.

After spending an hour shopping for my new kitchen door and hardware, I was rung up by a nice foreigner that barely spoke English. I swiped my Chase Home Equiline card, and the cashier got an error on his screen. We tried several times, after which, I called the number on the back of the card. Chase said, Oh, this happens all the time wqith Home Depot. Now, I work in the field of POS systems, and apparently there's a problem with Home Depot's credit authorization. In order for the person at Chase to help me out, I would have needed all the information from my last statement. Do you take your staements with you when you go shopping??? I THINK NOT!!!!!!
physical damage when I punched my wall.

We bought a countertop and tile backsplash totaling $1491.35 from Home Depot. We had a promotional offer of no payment no interst for one year. The promotion expires 9/19/08. Someone, Home Depot or Citibank, they won't tell us who, put a credit card protection fee of $16.98/mo on our credit card without our authorization or knowledge. This was done after our initial bill indicating no payment due until 9/19/08. We did receive monthly bills, however, I did not even look at them because we had not made any additional purchases and the terms of our only purchase were listed on the first statement.
About 8 months into the promotional period, I opened a bill and saw the credit card protection fee and a late charge of $39. I called Home Depot immediately (I am the wife), however, because the card was in my husband's name they would not speak to me. My husband then called Home Depot, we both experienced alot of trouble just getting to a live person.
First my husband was told he authorized this protection fee. When he disputed this, the original paperwork was pulled and it was verified that he did not ask for this credit card protection. My husband was then told he had to call another number because Home Depot did not manage their credit card accounts.
My husband then called the second number (Citibank) and was told this would be taken care after about six phone calls and about an hour's worth of phone calls. The next month's bill came with us still being billed the protection fee and another late charge. We received a nasty collection call from Citbank at dinner time one night and I gave the phone directly to my husband as it was a live person telling me my account was past due. My husband spoke to a rep again and was told this would be taken off our charge account.
Finally, on 6/13/08, we received a letter from Home Depot Credit Services (Citibank) stating, At your request, your enrollment in the Balance Protector program has been cancelled. Our next bill arrived and we are no longer being charged the montly fee but Home Depot is still charging us $201.38 in Balance Protector and late fees and we had an additional $39 late fee for the month of June.
We have received nasty dunning calls on an account that we didn't owe a payment on until 9/19/08 under Home Depot's promotional offer. We have incurred $201.38 in fees we didn't authorize. I went ahead and paid the original purchase amount of $1491.35 early because I cannot deal with the stress of this Home Depot credit card. We are cancelling the card. We do NOT have credit problems and are not in the habit of checking our credit rating so I have no idea of what this has done to our credit, however, I am sure it has hurt us. I do not feel that we should have to pay $201.38 for these riduculous fees. We need help fighting Home Depot/Citibank. I feel they are disreputable and would never use their credit card again.

I receive a billing statement form the Home Depot. My balance which is subject to finance charge is $87.45, but the credit dep. of the Home Depot billed me a finance charge for the amount of $ 93.98. This is a unfair tacktic and excessiv chage.

Nothing has happened. I have used my "Do Not Pay For One Year" program many times. It sounds to me like there are a lot of people that aren't responsible or smart enough to pay off there loan in time. Excuses like I was only 20 days late? Or my grandma died of cancer? Or I didn't pay within the year and got charged accrued interest? Don't you read the fine print when you sign a loan? Home Depots credit services aren't there to make friends, they want to make money. If you use the do not pay feature from any consumer credit card (with maybe the exception of sears) you will be charged accrued interest if you don't pay in time. Come on people; stop blaming others for your inability to pay off a loan in time or on time. How about some personal responsibility?

I received a $40 late fee charge on a monthly check sent in to Home Depot. I mailed the check April 16. It was due April 22. They said they received it April 24--thus the late fee (my first in 24 years). The odd thing--it cleared my bank account April 23.
$40 cost plus potential damage to credit (I bought a car in March 2008, and the credit score they pulled was 832). My concern is they hold checks to illegally deprive customers of their hard earned cash.

In Jan 2005, I contracted through Home Depot to have a roof installed on my home. The salesperson made the pitch and I felt that using the brand of such a huge company would indeed give peace of mind. The total amount came to around $5,600 and I was told that a 30% deposit was necessary for installation to take place. (around $1,500). I opened up a Home Improvement account and was billed on a 6mo. no payment account. Installation came and, I must say this, the subcontractor did a GOOD job. No problems with the roof.
However, after the 6mo(Jun) were up on the billing, my account jumped from $1,500 to $7,100! I was billed the entire amount plus the deposit I already made again. I immediately called customer care with this issue and was told they would look into it. Nothing happened. I called in Aug, Sep, Nov, and Dec 2005 to no avail. I was told to fax in my records and then told I used the wrong number after it was given to me by one of their reps. I was told to contact the subcontractor directly, even though my contract was with HOME DEPOT, and no one else. I was told to submit my dispute in writing...surprise, no acknowledgement.
2006 was the same run around. They knew I was right; they credited my account for the interest they were running on it, even though the contract amount included the interest. They stopped running interest. I spoke with the store manager in May 2007. Finally a little help. My contract was written wrong by $500. I was told they'd fix it and they didn't. I was also told HOME DEPOT stopped using my subcontractor shortly after my install so they don't have access to the original contracts or billing from them, and they changed credit companies to Citi. However, this does not help me. Citi does not have records of all of my dispute letters or calls, they can only go back one year in their own system. So they do not acknowledge any dispute.
I have paid my balance down to the $2,000 I feel I do not owe and not a penny more. I have called and called and submitted disputes and no one can seem to help me with my issue. I made one last-ditch effort in Feb. No one recieved the letter though I sent it to the address on the statement. I finally spoke with a rep who would help me after seeing the notes on the account and received a response stating nothing could be done because the records are too old. This has been a three year process and very stressful. Citi has sent my account to collections and now they call me 2-3 times a day for money I do not owe to anyone. I refuse to pay this amount.
Economically my credit report has a blemish on it due to this account. I would have excellent credit if not for this. It shows nonpayment and collections for $2,000 that is not owed. Mentally it has been draining for the pure runaround given by those involved. My wife and I have argued about this for three years.

Last year when I bought my house, I got so excited because then we could get out Home Depot card. Purchased a washer and dryer that was advertised as no interest no payments for 1 year. All the signs in the store reflect some dazzling deal like that. But, the said truth is that Home Depot is taking advantage of people in that they are treaing their customers like they are stupid. Sure, we don't figure out what the sign actually said until we get to the register. My washer and dryer went okay, however I thought that the opportunity to have the card, meant that every purchase was under the same ad as my washer and dryer. It wasn't.
The signage in the store is horrible and deceiving. I'm disappointed because I live in a semi-rural area of West Virginia, and I had my hopes up about the new Home Depot that was opening. Now, every purchase I have made is subject to a different promotion. I don't see the advantage to that, but I am not a ad exec. Anyway, I'm totally disgusted with my Home Depot and I think Home Depot should think a little bit more about how much energy goes into deceipt and that amount of energy could really get people coming back instead of going somewhere else. I know that if the signage issue gets resolved, I will make Home Depot my home improvement place. If it doesn't get resolved, I'll just go to Lowes.

Received Home Depot Account Statement stating: Payment due date: March 30, 2008. Minimum Payment Due*: $0.00. New Balance Revolving: $0.00. Promotion Balance: $993.23. I search the confusing statement and see an asterick beside the word Due and on scanning the document I squint and see tiny tiny words that state to avoid paying accrued finance charges you must pay off your promotion balance by the expiration date shown. Further print (not in bold) but typed discreetly between a very bad and confusing layout stated in order to avoid paying the accrued finance charges associated with this purchase, please pay $662.09 by the promotion expiration date or the payment due date on this statement. I called the 800 tel. number on March 30 and punch in my account number and listen to the auto. message which stated no payment is due at this time. I'm confused. I then speak to a rep. who tells me I need to pay $662.09 by the end of today i.e. March 30. I feel their Statements & auto message services are set up to confuse and deceive customers. If I had not persisted in trying to understand my billing statement, I would have owed a lot of interest by the time next month's bill arrived! How many customers get billed with finance charges by Home Depot's sneaky statements!!

In December 2006 I bought a lawn mower from Home Depot in Dublin, Georgia under the assumption is was no payments, no interest for 12 months and no payments were to be made until January 2008. I sent payments from 1/2007- 11/2007 and paid the amount in full that was financed on the Home Depot card. I never received a bill and at 8:17 P.M. EST I received a telephone call from some individual (who gave a bogus name) that I had an outstanding overdue bill of $310.82 on this account. I assume this was for billed finance charges. Don't send a bill, just rack up charges and make a telephone call. This bill was paid in full in November, 2007 before the promotional period ended and before the first payment was even due.
I assume this has done damage to my credit. I submitted the information to the Better Business Bureau.

I bought floor covering. When I used my HD card, the $600 was applied to a 12 month no interest promotion WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE. I canceled the order in the same billing period and the credit appeared on my statement. Many months later, I was hit with a huge balance due with no explanation. I pay my bills on time. When I called, they explained about the promotional interest due because I had not paid an item off within 12 months. I asked what item. They couldn't tell me BECAUSE THEY ONLY KEEP RECORDS FOR 6 MONTHS! How can a company legally bind me to a contract without my consent and not even keep a record of it? I was able to retrieve my old statements and sent them to HD to prove that I had returned the item and that they had charged me interest for 12 months on something I didn't purchase. I'm refusing to pay the interest and the late fees which are accruing every month. I make a regular payment only. They have not replied to me.
I am certain that my credit rating has suffered. This is the ONLY company who could report me because I do not make late payments. I will not pay them a penny that I do not owe. In fact, I would declare bankruptcy before I send them a dime.

I pay my bills in full when they come in. In October 2007, I used a Home Depot credit card to purchase less than $70. The debit wasn't on the October bill because the purchase was too close to the cut-off date. November's bill was $0.00. December's bill never showed up, and during the month I purchased just under $700 worth of toys for my husband's Christmas. Jan. bill showed both amount AND a late fee based on the statement's total (roughly $770), even though the $700 was purchased only 10 days prior to the cut-off date of the statement. When I called to complain about it, I was told that the charge is calculated on the amount due to the account, NOT based on the late amount. Nice racket - don't send the bill, then jack up the charges.
If this shows up on my credit record, I will be extremely angry.

I returned a tool I purchased at the Home Depot,Danbury. When I purchased the tool in Danbury I was pitched to sign up for a Home Depot Master card.(I already have a Home Depot Commercial Credit Card). the pitch was that if I signed up for the card i would get $100 taken off the price of the framing gun I was purchasing. Great.
The gun turned out to be the wrong one for my purpose and I returned it to the Norwalk store which was close to the job. I wanted to exchange it for a different (much more expensive) gun. The transaction showed up on the computer exactly as I described it and I wanted the same $100 deal on the new gun. Joe refused to honor the deal because he said it wasn't Home Depot policy. When I asked him to call the Danbury store he refused. His attitude was extremely arrogant and rude.

I applied for a home loan and was told that Home depot had reported one late payment in June of 2007 of 30 days. I pulled my monthly check register and found that the payment was made on time and the check had already cleared. I made a copy of the check and the previous months payment and mailed it to Home Depot. I received a letter stating that the information on the credit report was not going to be changed and basically, there was nothing that they were going to do to correct this. I called numerous offices at Home Depot and finally got a person who gave me some real good advice. He told me to challange Home Depot at the credit reporting services. I wrote a letter to all three services and asked for Home Depot to REAFFIRM the credit information which puts the monkey on Home Depots back. I have also sent in complaints through the Better Business Bureau. I'm waiting to see if this works.
My credit rating went from 755 to 694 and cost me an additional $15,000.00 because of the increase interest rate that the lower FICA rate caused by Home Depot. I had a $25000.00 credit card, but the account is closed now.

As a long-time Home Depot customer, I opened a charge with them months ago. I HAVE EXCELLENT CREDIT and PAY BILLS IMMEDIATELY. Three weeks ago at 9 p.m. I received a phone call concerning my bill with Home Depot. It was a woman demanding payment, and she was very rude. I explained that I never got a bill which she obviously didn't believe. After other questions, I told her I wanted to cancel this card right now. Her remark was she'd cancel as soon as I paid it in full. I said I've never been treated this way before and was upset that she should call so late.
I went to the Home Depot store the next day and explained what happened. They said the address was wrong and connected me to three different Citibank people who were all apologetic. I then proceeded to wait for a bill which I just received after two weeks, and it states that I'm late with the payment. This could affect my credit rating. I'm elderly, and extremely upset. We will no longer do business with Home Depot.

I have been reading on your website about the $299 or above no-interest-for-a-year issue. My spouse and I have been through the same situation 3 times in 3 years. We make a purchase, are assured by the store mgr that it qualifies for the promotion, and receive the first bill only to find that our transaction is noted as Revolving Credit, payment due monthly. We have called each time, and told that it was a billing mistake, which will be resolved with the next bill. It typically takes us 3 months of phone calls to get the billing resolved.
This 3rd time was the final straw. We will be cutting up BOTH our HD cards once our most current promo offer is paid off, and will no longer be making major purchases at HD. We have also found, over the past few years, that the quality of the major item we have purchased at HD is NOT the same as what we have found elsewhere. Specific examples are the HD-sold John Deere tractors, and Anderson doors.
The promo billing issues have been time-consuming to resolve. The John Deere tractor (HD replaced it twice the first two months I owed it) is NOT warrantied by John Deere, although HD assured us that it was, prior to making the purchase. The local Deere franchise has told us that we will be lucky to get 5 years' usage out of it (JD tractors typically last 15-20 yrs, we're told.)
The Anderson storm door that HD installed was installed poorly, and we have not been able to get HD to come back out and re-install it. It is also very flimsy, compared to the (supposedly, according to HD salesperson) similar model that one could purchase at a Windows & Doors retailer.

I was surprised today when I closely look at my billing statement today. I noticed and additional $98.00 was going to be added to my bill for not paying for a vacuum clearer that I had charged in 2005. When I called home Depot to question why I had been charged the addition $98.00 dollars, their reply was that I had ask for extended payments when I purchased the VAC.
I informed the lady to whom I was talking that I did not request extended payments for the VAC. Her reply was that, since I made a purchase that was over $299.00 that the cash register automatically rings up all purchases to an extended payment plan. Since I did not request the plan, I want the purchase to be corrected to a normal charge and the added interest taken off my bill.

I walked up to the service counter on Saturday to pay my 2 Home Depot Bills. The saleperson was helping another employee make a payment on his account. Neither one greeted or offered to help. I stood there waiting for them to complete their transaction. Another customer walked up behind me, she also wanted to pay her bill. We continued to wait and still neither one acknowledged our presence. Finally I turned to the lady behind me and said," I guess they don't want to collect our money."
At that point I had hoped one of them would say something like "We will be with you in one minute" - which didn't happen. Finally I said excuse me "Can we pay our bill at this counter?" The the saleperson making the payment on his bill said you can make your payment at any register at the other end of the store.
At this point the lady behind me was feed up and left the store. As she left she said it shouldn't be this hard to pay your bill. I asked another saleperson that was standing behind them at the returns counter if she would be willing to collect my payment, thankfully she said yes. The other customer service representative never looked at me, spoke to me or offered any customer service help.
I would hope that the people that work at the service counter would be trained and willing to greet all their customers once they walk up to the counter for assistance. I understand if they are busy you have to wait your turn, however when two associates are taking care of personal payments they should put that aside when a customer approaches the desk or at least say hello. I have worked as a Customer Service Representative for the past 18 years for 3 large corporations. I have always greeted a customer with a positive greeting, respect and the offer to help. I had hoped to received that kind of service when I went in to pay my bill.

This is a complaint about a Home Depot Credit Card. I find that it is actually a Citicorp card, but it is heavily promoted and issued in Home Depot, and bears its name.
A year ago, I ordered several floor coverings from Home Depot, and was convinced to sign up for a credit card. I supsequently cancelled most orders because of their incompetence (another story), and thought I had no more charges on the Home Depot card.
They sent bills for $155 for 6 months to an old address. Home Depot had my correct address - all orders were to my new home. Citicorp had my correct address - I have another card with them. I had filled out a change of address with the Post Office. My credit report was absolutely clean, and I have several other credit cards and a home mortgage.
Yet I made absolutely no payments on this card. A minimally competent computer program would figure out there was something wrong here. However, my account was reported as 150 days overdue to the credit bureau. I called to protest, but was told it was really my fault, and there was nothing they could do. And, by the way, I owe them almost $400 due to fees and interest. Maybe their computer program does just as they would wish!

I did a 12 months same as cash purchase and, when I went online to pay the balance in full, the Citibank Website was not working properly.
I tried to make the payment for 2 days and when it finally did accept it they posted it for the following day even though it was before 3pm my time. I called and explained that the website had been running really slow and had not been recognizing information I had already supplied and was told not a problem and that I would not be charged the interest.
But I was charged the interest and they will not remove it.

Home Depot's Credit/Debit Merchandise Return Policy Credits issued for return merchandise purchased with Credit/Debit cards are held a minimum 2 days before credit is posted to the purchasers account.
Home Depots Web site says,"Any purchase made by credit card will be refunded to the original credit card." No where is it written in their Corporate Return Policy that this type of transaction requires a minimum of 2 days to "process".
Credit card purchases at Home Depot are posted to my account almost instantaniously, why not credits? As a side note - US Bank's Customer Service Center has received numerous complaints from their customers regarding this practice. The bank contacted Home Depot Corp. with regard to this issue and were "taken up the ladder, down the ladder and around 'n round" and never did get an answer to their questions. If withholding credit is Home Depot policy than the public has the right to be informed.

The return policy at Home Depot states they "Stand Behind What we sell and if you bring it back within 90 days in "like new condition you can return it or exchange it." What I've found is this is not true, with certain vendors and products there are exceptions to the policy.
However, I can't find these exceptions published or displayed anywhere in the store or on the web.

We saw a generator on sale, so we put it on our Home Depot credit card, without knowing about or caring anything about six month free interest]. When we got a bill the next month, we paid minimum or more. This goes on until I get this interest charge for $81.74 for one month on a balance of $759.94, so now my balance is 792.74! It is more now than when we started six months ago. We mostly paid 50.00 a month.

As you know, Home Depot offers 12 months with no interest and no payments as long as your purchase is $299 or more. I made several purchases in several departments all in one day. One of the purchases in one of the departments on the day in question was for $271.37. I asked, and was assured that since I was spending over $3500 that day that this particular purchase would be part of the zero payment/interest program.
They gave me the wrong parts for that $271.37 item and it had to be returned and exchanged for product that was for an amount that was even less. Again, I was assured that it would be part of the zero interest/payment program because of the initial purchase that it was supposed to go with.
For some reason, the $271.37 kept disappearing and reappearing in the form of debits and credits on my account. I thought I had it all straightened out and payed the account, almost $10K, in full. After that, the $271.37 showed up again.
Every month since September 2005 I have to call and rehash the saga with someone new. And every month I get a different answer. Not to mention that in three months the $271.37--which I don't even owe--has ballooned to $367.14. That's over 35%!
