Cub Cadet

Willard of Rhome, TX July 28, 2009

bougth a Cub Cadet weed trimmer, and an extened 2 yr.warranty, used it maybe 5 times before winter, the first time we used it in spring it worked once then started running backward,we took it to the nearest repair shop, they laughed at us said no way it could run backward, keep it several weeks, on the invoice it said,it ran backwards, and had wear and tear causing bushing to wear. After 6 uses? They charged us 40.59 for 1/2 hr labor. What good is a warranty if you have to pay so much to get it worked on?Could buy several cheap on each year and come out ahead. We live on a small fixed income, that amount really is a lot to us. Had to wait on some of our medication to pay the bill.We want buy anymore cub cadets of any kind.

Had my 4600 cub for one season....belt slipped off mowing deck...had a friend replace it after calling two dealers 23 miles away ...being 75 yrs old with crippling arthritis in hands and fingers...asked dealers when they could put new belt on...both said would be two weeks before they would be able to touch it...withing two weeks the belt broke and was screeching and smoking... going to call tomorrow to see how long it will take to replace the belt...again..being 75 yrs old I cannot waste what little time I have left playing games with repair people for a junkie mower...I had three Murry mowers bought from Walmart and had very little trouble other than maintenance with them..all lasted ten or more years...just grease the bearings in the blades and you have no troubles....cannot find anyone to mow my two acres which will require a bush hog soon and bail the hay...

The 2005 Kohler engine in my Club Cadet LT 1050 riding lawn tractor caught fire when I turned the ignition off and burned the air filter, filter cover and all the hood components in less than a minute. I believe the green material around the air filter ignited plastic cover which caught the rest of the mower in flames; luckily I was returning with the water hose to clean the mower before returning it to the garage.

I have owned a Cub Cadet riding mower for 7 years and every year had carburator problems. In and out of the shop, very expensive to keep running.

Rosemary of Lexington, OK June 16, 2009

On May 5, 2009 I purchased a Cub Cadet riding mower from TSC, Purcell, OK. The mower was delivered May 7th and ran beautifully. After running it 6hr and burning 3 tanks of gas, on May 23rd, the mower died after going about 4 ft and refused to start again. When I bought the mower, I was assured that the business that does the warranty work, if any was ever needed, would pick up the mower and return it after any repairs were completed, but, we may have to pay them a fee for the service, as we have no means of hauling the mower and my husband is a truck driver and away from home much of the time.

We were advised to contact Metro Turf Outdoor Power Equipment, in Norman OK for service. They are located less then 20 mi from our home, but they refused to pick up the mower, even for a fee. A week later, after my husband got home from a run, he and a friend were able to get the mower in for repairs. Before they even looked at the mower the service person stated the it was either " bad " gas or the sparkplug! Now, how was he so sure of that? The young man who had looked at the mower stated that he hadn't seen any water in the fuel when he checked it.

On June 13th, when the mower was ready to be picked up we were presented with a bill stating that there was excessive water in the fuel, necessitating draining the fuel system and cleaning the carburator which had corroded. Since the warranty did not cover this problem, we were charged 72.02 for the service. They also were very rude and treated my husband in a condescending manner. My husband is a " farmboy " and has a working knowledge of small engines, but since the mower was under warranty he did not touch it. Oh, by the way, Metro Turf also seller Cub Cadet mowers. Hmm

my lawn tractor has less than 50 hours on it and the starter went out, they wouldnt even give me a deal on a new one. i am not happy a starter should last longer than that, i can promise you i will never buy another lawn mower from them and i will never buy a cub cadet again! i will also run the cub cadet and lake henry implement name through the mud, there is no way i would ever recommend anyone else to either one! the starter set me back 130 dollars,my time and frustration with it is worth something also.

Glenn of Hemphill, TX May 27, 2009

We purchased a cub cadet riding lawn mower from tractor supply in Center, Tx. at the end of 2007 and it came with a 3 year warranty and we asked them did they do the repairs and they said they had Toledo Automotive that took care of it. Recently the pulley that holds the blades up came loose and we took it to Toledo Automotive after being told to by Tractor Supply and they said it was under warrant.

Now that they say they have it fixed we are being charged over 300 for parts and labor. When we ask Tractor Supply they now say it is not covered. What good are warranties - companies should not be allowed to say it comes with a 3 year warranty when they do not plan to honor their warranty - need to contact an attorney?

I have grass up to my rear end because Cub Cadet doesn't supply expendable parts like mowing deck belts to its dealers. I've been looking for over a month. I've been telling everyone about it and talked my neighbor out of buying one.

Sandra of East Aurora, NY April 23, 2009

We purchased our Cub Cadet tractor in April of 2005. We used the tractor in the summer for mowing and in the winter for plowing our driveway with the snow blower attachment. In January of 2008 we had to take the tractor to a local authorized Cub Cadet repair shop because the tractor would not start. The tractor had only 60 hours recorded at the time of repair. Alden Lawn and Garden Equipment contacted Kohler to pay for part of the repair under the Kohler Warranty Claim as the tractor should not have had this type of repair so soon and with so few working hours. The repair shop had the tractor for approximately 2 weeks and returned it to us on 2/6/08. Please note the events which followed: On 2/8/08 the tractor was used for the first time since repair to snow blow a moderate amount of snow from the driveway. The tractor was returned to our attached garage and shut off. Within 10minutes the tractor started on fire in the garage. The whole tractor was engulfed in flames. Luckily, the smoke detectors went off in our hallway to alert my husband. The local fire department responded and the tractor was able to be pulled out into the driveway. Our garage was damaged and our house was smoke damaged to a total insurance loss of 25,000. The tractor was taken by Traveler’s Insurance to have forensics testing to try and determine why it started on fire. We were eventually told that it was so badly burned that they could not determine the cause. Due to Traveler’s not being able to determine who was at fault, Traveler’s canceled our home owner’s insurance. This forced us to pay a much higher premium as we were now put in a “risk pool. We would never recommend a Cub Cadet tractor to anyone and we relay our story to anyone who will listen. The whole ordeal caused our family financial loss, inconvenience and an emotional toll. We are fortunate that nobody was hurt and our whole house was not destroyed due to a defective tractor.
