Bed, Bath & Beyond

Not everyone is happy. We've received quite a few complaints about Bed Bath & Beyond and a number of inquiries about the store's coupons. If you have a complaint, please let us know about it.

Rebecca writes (5/13/01):
I had searched for months for the perfect comforter for my new home. While browsing at the Bed Bath & Beyond store at Concord Mills Mall in Charlotte NC, I found exactly what I had been looking for. I was going to wait and buy it from the competitor's store the following week, as I had a coupon in my purse for 20% off any purchase that was only valid for certain dates.

I saw BB&B's sign that they accept competitors' coupons, so I asked the customer service person if I could use the coupon. He cooly informed me that they could only accept it during the "valid dates" and I should come back the following week. There is another BB&B (South Boulevard Store) on my way home. I thought I would try again, as I really wanted this comforter, and I didn't want to wait a week and risk changing my mind or getting side-tracked.

I was approached almost immediately by a sales associate who asked if he could help me. I asked him to point me to this comforter, and I then asked him if I could use the coupon. His reponse: "Sure, we don't want you to go to the other store next week." That was the right attitude. He was right; if I had to wait until the following week to use the coupon, I would have gone to the other store and redeemed their coupon, just because it would be easier. He carried the comforter up front for me and checked me out with the coupon. Because he was so accommodating, they got a $200 sale that day and much more repeat business from me as I furnish my house.
