Hampton Bay Patio Furniture

Hampton Bay Furniture, sold by Home Depot stores, is manufactured by JRA Furniture, headquartered in Cerritos, Calif., which proudly boasts that its furniture is made in "factories throughout Asia." Yes, and we can think of many consumers who would have been happier if JRA's glass=top tables had stayed in Asia.

Besides Hampton Bay, JRA's glass-top tables are sold under a number of brand names, the most notorious being Martha Stewart. Her line of patio furniture, sold by Kmart, has produced an explosion of complaints from consumers about its nasty habit of exploding all over their patios and decks.

See Sounds of Summer: Martha Stewart Tables Shattering for all the gory details.

Catherine of Kansas City, MO July 10, 2009

I purchased a 7 piece Folian Dining Set from Home Depot on Juyly 28, 2006. Just three years later my table top unexpectedly broke into a million pieces--no one was using it. I have gone on line to find a number to lodge my complaint with the manufacturer and to get a cost of a replacement. After reading complaint after complaint, I think there should be a national recall and we all should either a new table top.

Carrie of Glendale, WI July 10, 2009

My daughter was sitting at the Hampton Bay Patio Table when a slight gust of wind came and lightly lifted the umbrella while in the stand. This was just a breeze, when all of a sudden the entire glass table top burst with glass flying all over the yard. Luckily, my daughter had only a couple of minor cuts. I purchased the patio set from Home Depot in Glendale, WI in late Spring of 2007.

Treva of Rome, GA July 10, 2009

I purchased an outdoor furniture set in July 2008 and did not use in the summer of 2008. After setting up on the deck our purchased round table and 4 chairs with market umbrella, I was sitting in the living room and saw everything fly across the deck. No one was out and no bad weather yet the glass table top had exploded and thrown glass all over the deck and the ground surrounding. I have been very disappointed to never get to actually sit at the table. Also the paint is already chipping off a section of the table. Very disappointed.

Joseph of Columbia, SC July 9, 2009

This 4th of July the chair broke. All three legs broke right through the cheap Chinese aluminum. Called Home Depot and I've been getting the run around for days. This isn't a warranty issue, this is a defectively manufactured item that should never have been sold. Just look at the number of complaints about this. Our other matching chair is cracked in the exact same area. Less than 3 months use. I'm still going round and round with Home Depot. I suggest we all get together and start a class action lawsuit.

Nicholas of washingtonville, NY July 8, 2009

To whom it may concern, after many shattered tables on my patio.I invested in a teak table from the woods of the rain forrest gauranteed to with stand any thing and nothing happening to the piece which was a 7 piece set table and chairs paid 1169.YES I did,it wieghed over 200lbs.+, and way bottom line I put it together piece by piece took 2 days , it was beautiful looking(surprise).

the very next day it rained.God was talking to me it seems ,the wood turned brown ok may be it was the first day well it rained again the wood started to split so much my daughters had splinters just sitting on the chair. I called and called to complain to home depot about this hampton bay product and I got the runaround until this nice gentleman gave me a diredt phone to the corporate office , which this lady called me from bolivia , and kept saying the item was great she was a rep. ofcourse, anyway months went by and I resieved 2 bottle set of teak oil and cleaner that was it went back to the home depot and all they kept saying call corporate , 3 years later we sat on this thing twice with nothing done can some one pleae help

Debra of Bowmansville, NY July 8, 2009

My 16 year old daughter was sitting in one of the chairs, when all of a sudden, the welds literally broke, and she slid on to the floor. Luckily, she landed on her bottom and elbows, but it could have been much worse. My patio set is only two years old, and is only used in the summer, so after six months of use, this happened. We are worried to use the other chairs now. No warranty after one year.

james of lancaster, NY July 8, 2009

purchased a patio set for several hundred dollars. used one summer, set was covered by back yard canapy. stored in garage for the winter, pulled out this spring and paint was falling off. seemed like the metal frame was not preped properly.

Diane of New Philadelphia, OH July 7, 2009

I have(had) the Hampton Bay dining set with the glass to. Was sitting at the table reading when the glass top exploded for no apparent reason, glass shards went everywhere. Called customer service hot line no help there. Apparently they know they have a problem with this set because they no longer have it. But they have a similar style only with a tile top instead of glass. I think Home Depot should replace all glass top tables with the tile ones at no cost to the customers!!!

William of Harrisburg, PA July 6, 2009

To whom it may concern, I purchased a Hampton Bay patio table from Home Depot over a year ago. Two days ago, July 4, as the table sat unattended at pool side the table top glass exploded into a million pieces. Yes peices in the pool as well. It has been a nightmare trying to clean up all the fine peices of glass. 2 days later and still picking up pieces of glass. What happened? A tempered glass should not have broken into a thousand of pieces while unattended . My children could have been sitting there eating dinner. How do I get a replacement glass?

Sheila of Russellville, MO July 5, 2009

I had this patio set setting on my back deck. When I came home from work one day, I found the glass top shattered into pieces. We had just paid 250.00 for this set about 4 months prior. I have not yet tried to replace the glass, but have been told that to replace is very expensive.
